It has been two weeks to the day since the Republic of New Eden lost contact with its deep-space research ship, 'The Path to Enlightenment'.

All attempts to contact the ship have been met with silence. Patrols sent to locate the ship have been unable to locate it. But finally, the missing ship, home to several hundred scientists along with a full unit of security staff and their families, has been found, floating in the vast emptiness of space.

Enter the freelance repair freighter, 'The Precipice', and it's crew, nearby to the location of the derelict research ship and having been hired by the Republic to board the Path, discover what has happened, and get it running again. An easy job to them, and the pay's pretty good.

In truth, they have no idea what they are walking in to. Aboard the Path, something has been released, a creature that can possess the bodies of humans, a creature intent on killing everyone it can.

It could be anyone; the captain, your best friend, even yourself. Who can you trust? How can you tell who's lying and who's telling the truth?

And how do you stop the creature before it murders everyone aboard the ship?

Additional Background info:
THE UNIVERSE OF 'POSSESSION'

In truth, Earth really isn't that much different to what it is now. Resources are just about dried up, it must be said, which means a lot of off-world companies are making a fortune sending shipments back home, and we've managed not to wipe ourselves out with nuclear weapons as of yet (though on occasions we have come close). The UN is just as useless in trying to govern the colonisation of new planets and deep-space stations as it is at trying to police over Earth, and the Russians still don't like anybody.

What's changed is that something of a race to colonise the new planets being discovered has begun, with almost every nation investing as much finance as it can in colony projects and building up their fleets. Although this hasn't led to any major confrontations just yet, the cynics amongst the human race are fairly sure it's just a matter of time before things start getting rough and war breaks out, and in all honesty, they probably do have a point.

Breakaway nations are being formed, as well; those disillusioned by the current governments are more than capable of jetting off to some uninhabited planet and starting their own, providing they can get enough people to support their endevours. One particular example of this is the Republic of New Eden. New Eden is a religious society, though not a fundimentalist one. Their work is largely scientific, as they are attempting to discover Man's true place in the universe, as well as "other examples of God's work on distant planets". Their developments in science and technology are incredible; the Republic is making a considerable amount selling their creations onto the highest bidder in order to fund their research.

Different ways of life are beginning to occur; many people are beginning to spend their childhood aboard ships, travelling through space. Such people are known as 'Wayfarers' (OOC: Thank you Sandite for the suggestion). Some grow tired of the environments they have lived in, and leave to live on the many new planets being colonised and tera-formed, but a large majority go on to spend most of their lives in space aboard the many ships that transverse it.

TECHNOLOGY IN THE UNIVERSE OF 'POSSESSION'

Mankind is beginning to spread into the stars, and the technology it has developed is advancing rapidly. Newer, more powerful and faster ships are being developed all the time. However, the most advanced technology is still not readily available to the public; you'll generally only find it in the hands of the government and military forces (meaning you better have a damn good reason for it if your character is packing something high-tech).

In terms of weapons, conventional firearms are still the norm. They're better developed and more advanced, but are still loaded with bullets rather than anything excessively sci-fi-ish. Laser technology has been developed, but only recently, and such weapons are heavily restricted.

Ships don't go at 'warp speed' in true Trekkie style, though they go pretty damn fast. However, it can often take several weeks, or even months, to get to a destination, which means cyro-pods are installed in every ship. The auto-pilot gets the crew most of the way, and they take over at the end for the more difficult part of landing or docking.


Game-play Summary
----------------

Possession is a mixture of an RP and a game. The main objective for the player characters is to determine who are the ones possessed before the possessed can get to kill them. However, it is not that simple, since the possessed will possess no special characteristics.

The players will decide among themselves who they think is the possessed via voting, if they vote out the possessed, good, but if not, the possessed will get to kill another player character. The game ends if the possessed has been voted out, or if all the player characters has been killed.

I've taken the idea for this game from a similar game in the HTVF forums, which was taken from the Comic Book Resources Forums. The story for this game is from Necromanic Grumpy.
 
GAME MECHANICS:

1) There will be a sign-up thread, the rules and mechanics of the game as well as the character sheets for the participants will be posted there. (as usual)

2) The game thread will then be created. After the game starts, the GM will assign some player characters to be the one "possessed", as well as a "seer". The "possessed" must kill who he/she thinks is the "seer". (the actual number of possessed characters will depend on the number of players)

3) There will be a voting phase, (normally 1 week). Within the voting phase, the players (including the killer) will vote, in character, who they think is the killer. Also, the assigned seer will receive a hint from the GM, via PM.

4) If the actual killer is caught, players win if there are no killers left. Otherwise, the game goes on, and the one voted out will be sent off the spaceship to die in space.

5) Repeat steps 2 to 4 until all the "possessed" are found out, or the "seer" is killed, or everybody else dies. If the seer is killed, it's a victory for the creature. If the "possessed" is found out, the player character possessed will be killed off, along with that creature, and the players win. GM's prerogative on who wins in case everybody has been killed off.

NOTE: Once the game has started, the GM will no longer be able to accept players.



GAME RULES

1) DON'T GOD-MOD. Not only does it spoil it for everyone else, it also ruins the element of mystery in the game, ruining the experiance.

2) Once a player has been killed by the possessed, he/she is killed. No buts, no ifs. It goes without saying that no one, no matter how powerful, is safe from being killed.

3) Also, once a player has been casted off by the other players, he/she is also effectively killed off.

4) Players who have been killed can't participate in the game any longer, and cannot offer advise to other players (see Rule 1).

5) Once a player receives a message from the GM about his/her role, he/she must take care not to divulge any relevant information to the other players, even after that player has been relieved of his/her role. If necessary, after the end of the game, the GM will make a post tying up all of the loose ends and other questions.

6) If there's any need for clarifications, feel free to PM the GM. Do not ask the other players.

Strengths:
He is quite peace-loving, and would try his best to resolve disputes among his teammates whenever he can. He also has quite good leadership skills, which comes out whenever it is necessary. He also supports his teammates in every way he can.​

He is oftentimes absent-minded and spaced out. He also has some difficulty remembering things, and is very forgetful. He's also rather weak physically.​

Talents:
He's knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects, but his level of knowledge is quite shallow as compared to an expert. He also has this knack for peacemaking.​

Personality:
He is gentle, empathic, and always friendly, and is almost never seen without his glasses on (because of this, some of his friends call him "Megane-kun" which loosely translates as "glasses-wearing guy"); however, when needed he shows notable willpower and brutal honesty.​

History:
Pushed by his parents to take up piloting, Kiminobu studied under one of the many piloting schools in Japan. However, because of his bad eyesight, he had some difficulty becoming a pilot. Kiminobu didn't let this deter him, however, and he eventually got a reputation for being a very good and dependable pilot. He was chosen as Precepice's captain because of this reputation.​

General Appearance:

Her eyes are yellow-brown, with long lashes. They're almond-shaped, slightly tilted, and have pencil-thin brown eyebrows. Dulce keeps her hair short, roughly 4", dyed a startling floral pink, and always styled in some chunky, tousled way. She likes style. Her natural hair color is a soft, unassuming gray... Which she never allows to show. She is about 5'10". Dulce is cute in a punk-way. She's not much for formality--the closest she'll get is biz casual. She's fairly thin, a little rangy, and wiry. Her ears and navel are pierced, and she generally wears the earrings--two on the right, three on the left--when she's not on duty. She wears make-up, not much, but in unusual colors. Flamboyant? Yes. She wears what she wants, what makes her happy, and to hell with everyone else. She has lightly complected skin that tends to burn easily, a few freckles over her cheeks, and a young, smooth face with a smallish nose, slightly thin lips, and a heart-shaped face with a slightly pointed chin.

Strengths:

Dulce is cunning and quick. Her main fighting strengths lie in knowing where and when to hit someone rather than on brute force. She is very good at detecting people who are trying to hide something (be it an object or a fact) because of her experience in reading body language. Dulce has a great knack for spatial relationships and mechanical type things. Math she understands innately and loves it like a Baptist loves a Bible; to her, it can explain everything about the universe gracefully, and where it hasn't yet, with work, it will. She has a delicate touch for things physical and can also easily eyeball measurements and make straight lines without a ruler.

Weaknesses:

Dulce is not particularly friendly and she's something of a habitual liar herself. She is also rather light nor is she particularly strong. While she'll manage a long hike at a reasonable pace, she does not have great endurance. Linguistics aren't her strong suit. She's also not at all subtle and has very little tact. She has a fairly short temper and isn't afraid to tell anyone what she thinks. If you want something handled delicately, send anyone but Dulce. She has a slight blue-green color vision deficiency. She's not incredibly creative per se, either; she has a much harder time coming up with something new as opposed to adjusting older ways of doing things. She's easy to goad into anger and doesn't create complex plans.

Talents:

Dulce is a cunning liar, a great reader of body language, very physically flexible, loves puzzles and equations. Stealth, acrobatics, short bursts of intense speed, fitting into tight spaces, sexiness, confidence.

Personality:

There's not much of a difference between inner Dulce and outer Dulce. On the inside, the insecurities about her small body and her physical performance come to light; she sometimes wonders if she'll always be someone's girl Friday instead of their reason to come home (not that she wants to be a homemaker, god forbid). She doesn't have much of a voice of conscience, though, and while she can be very sympathetic, she also doesn't really related to other people's emotional issues too well.

Dulce is also a big fan of second chances. She thinks people can redeem themselves if given a chance, and that anyone has the potential to learn. It just takes time and the proper technique.

Aside from an argumentative nature, she's essentially well-adjusted, doesn't want for much more than what she has, finds ways to keep herself interested, and neither shuts others out excessively nor relies on them overmuch. Despite her penchant for exaggerating her emotions to others, she also lacks the borderline personality disorder observed in many of her peers: she neither immediately classifies others as saints or demons.

Dulce is dynamic. She can't be held down for long, does what she wants, and what she wants gets done. She's neither shy nor avoidant; if she wants to talk to you, you will be spoken to. She's also pretty bold; her aggression is overwhelming to some, which she considers a sign of fragile flowerhood. If she disagrees with you, she will let you know. She's a hard worker, hates flighty people, and is easily motivated. While not of a generally trusting nature, she is confident in herself at least.

She tends to speak before she really thinks it out, and has a swift temper. She doesn't hold grudges, though, and prefers an honest fight to long-term simmering. She thinks that kind of behavior is a sign of immaturity. While she's neither subtle nor delicate, she's also not fond of humiliating people. She tries to keep private things private. There's no quicker way to make an enemy than to embarass them in front of others, after all. She's not in this to make enemies.

There are very few taboo topics to Dulce; this can be embarassing to others. She also believes in a sisterhood of women--to her, the whole competition over men thing is totally engineered by society. There are plenty of good men out there, why fight over them? She'd rather have friends and lots of casual flings. She doesn't, however, seek out the younger set for either.

History:

Dulce comes from a well-off family on Venus's main colony. At 14, she decided to join the local militia, where she basically schelpped until she came of age and was shipped away for proper training. Due to her innate talent for reading people's body language, as well as her physical make-up, she was trained for security as part of a shadowing unit and played invisible bodyguard for a few generals. At 23, she decided not to re-up her contract and instead was honorably discharged with six years of service and made her way into the private payroll of the Precipice's owner to make sure no cargo goes missing that isn't supposed to, and to provide backup in possibly violent situations.

Personality:
In many people's opinion one of the finest medical officers to be available for private shipboard hire. When theres a life to be saved or a cold that needs curing thats all there is and he won't stop until the job is done. Somewhat ironically for someone who is happiest elbow deep in a patient clamping an artery shut with his hands while reaching for a clamp with the other he lacks the stomach for violence. While not incapable of violence if its threatened he'll usually back down. What holds him back from a more prestigious position on a larger ship is his occasional bouts of alcoholism during times of extreme stress.​

History:
Born aboard the U.S.S. Mayflower his parents stayed aboard the ship when it was converted into a makeshift supply station in the planet's orbit. He spent much of his childhood as an orderly in the infirmary due to the shortage of hands and picked up the skills and knowledge needed to apply to medical school when he came of age before serving on several commercial transports on a freelance basis or just to pay for his fare.​

Cari stands at the moderately tall height for a human female of 5'10" (178 cm), as do many of her colonialista brethren--aided, no doubt, by the lower gravity on Sirius VI. Round glasses, complete with a projected computer display, are always perched on her nose and secured around the back of her head with a bit of string. She dresses simply and casually in the Sirian colonist style, with loose, lightweight wraps of beige and brown that billow comfortably in a breeze. When she pulls back her hooded robes, you can see her long, ashy-brown hair, which is most often seen tied back in long, tight braids. Underneath such traveling robe, she wears a white sleeveless blouse tucked into an amber-colored full length skirt. It is in this costume that she performs hands-on work such as repair and construction of ship components, when necessary. Her thoughtful, serious countenance and discerning brown eyes demonstrate a steady, self-assured sort of intensity and inner faith, which often inspires confidence and trust in others.

Strengths:
She is in the vanguard of the scientific-religious movement of spaceship development. Because she has authored various papers on theoretical and applied space engineering, Cari has strong connections with the Academy of Sciences and several theologians throughout the hierarchy of the Republic of New Eden. She is a sure hand in the engine room of most any spacefaring vessel, considering that she had a role in designing the inner workings of most of the recent models. She is methodical and precise in all she does, unaffected by emotion, and a steady hand in any moment of crisis.
Weaknesses:
For a mechanic, she is not physically strong, and tires quite easily. She gravitates to the academic and theoretical side of engineering, so she is not well-trained in combat or fighting of any kind. Her dogmatic devotion to research often lead her to be close-minded, stubborn, unskilled at working with others and socializing effectively, and unattentive to other peoples' needs.
Talents:
Space ship design, maintenance and repair. Her specialty is the engineering of life-support and cryostasis systems, though she has a vast store of knowledge on propulsion mechanisms as well.​
Personality:
Cari always wants to get to the bottom of how things work, and views life as an ongoing opportunity for learning. She doesn't talk much: if she has to, she is very diplomatic and polite. Rather than talking, she constantly evaluates everything and everyone around her, and tries to break them down into basic factors according to her Theory of Purposes - every thing, every person, every atom in the universe has a purpose, and through the laws of physics, of cause and effect, every thing or person will do what is destined for it. She is quite convinced she has everything in the cosmos either figured out, or soon to be figured out, and can be judgmental as a result. She is supremely independent, a self-made respected engineer, and doesn't like to depend on others if she can help it.
History:
Always diligent and studious, Cari was the pride of her family and their colonist community on Sirius VI. She learned math before learning to speak. At age 5, she was drawing spaceships and diagramming their compartments, and at age 15 she authored her first technical paper on propulsion mechanics. The Republican government took notice of her skills early on, and sheltered her from the menial agricultural and terraforming tasks required of colonists, instead allowing her to focus on her engineering studies. Her tutors inculcated in her a strong religious conviction as well, which she holds to this day. She believes it her spiritual mission to help humanity explore the far reaches of the universe and make the whole cosmos a safe place for humankind.

Strengths:
Sol is scrappy and plucky, having to break up more then his share of bar fights. He's also extremely charming and good at analyzing people's problems and helping them out. He is a good bartender and can make great drinks. He is also a secret monger because alcohol loosens the lips of people.
Weaknesses:
He can't usually see the minute details and can is better at seeing the big picture. He misses a lot of small details a lot of the time and isn't good at investigations. He is terrible at telling the truth and tends to cater to what people want to her as opposed to what he really wants to say.
Talents:
Gleaning information from people, selling secrets, blackmailing
Personality:
Sol is a generally kind and amicable person with a tight lip with his secrets until money is involved. He can be greedy and tends to care more about making money then anything else. He will help people with their problems as long as they're paying for drinks.
History:
Sol was raised on a small colony orbiting around Saturn with the rings. He had a relatively normal childhood but his parents pushed him into culinary pursuits and at the age of 16 he was sent to the most prestigeous culinary academy on Neptune only to come back to Saturn a few years later as a fully registered chef. After having satisfied his parents request he turned his eyes on making money using his culinary skills and began to actually turn to bartending. He made a lot of money blackmailing famous clientèle with their own secrets the alcohol he served them loosened. He was elected for service on the Enlightenment one year.

Apparently Raze was born en-route to her mothers home world. A day out from its destination, her mother went into labor and was lost due to poor medical work aboard that ship. Raze was tossed about from ship to ship until someone accepted to raise her and a lot about her was lost along the way.
Occupation:
Employed from the M-Tech research facility, Raze is one of the Scientist’s aboard. Even though she loved her job at one point, she has grown bored and is training her replacement, Lilith Turner. Lilith is supposed to take over when Raze leaves to look into other fields.
General Appearance:
Cat like eyes are a light, almost neon, green flecked with silver. Moving down…her
high cheek bones are framed with long, oddly straight, almost burgundy colored hair. She never liked it as a kid. Standing at six foot even, her thin frame often gets comments that she needs to slow down and eat more. Which of course turns her a light red, her skin tint changes with her mood.
Strengths:
Agile movements with better sight in low light conditions. Raze isn’t afraid to take control of things and get them done.
Weaknesses:
While able to take control of a situation, when it comes to those she cares about she can sometimes make poor judgments: She has a deep rooted fear of abandonment and hates to see those she loves unhappy and often over analyzes things. Also sensitive in full on light.
Talents:
Instinctively knows how to fight. It isn’t always pretty or refined but its gotten her out of a few spots. Has a knack at talking backwards, though that isn’t useful.
Personality:
Raze likes things her way, with her way being the difficult way most times and she resorts to shouting quickly…she definitely isn’t known for patiently explaining things. She has trouble with authority, god help you if you cross her. She’ll bitch for months…after she gets her revenge. At least she knows what she’s doing…?!
History:
After a few years of being employed she became bored with her work. Upon looking for a replacement she accidentally found a lover as well. Lilith Turner.

General Appearance:
Lilith is of average height and physique. Her body is well toned as she also works out three times a week to keep herself in good shape. Her hair is long and straight, a rich black color which is accented by her pale complexion and red lips. Her eyes are a dark brown, and always looking around the world with curiosity and deep, lost, thought. As for her style of clothing, it really just depends on the day, but she leans toward skirts and nice shirts to finish her outfit, though occasionally she’ll simply go wild with mix and match clothing. She also wears rimless glasses.

Strengths:
A very focused individual and task oriented. You can count on her to work through a problem until the end. She can act both individually and with a team decently well, and though she looks frail she can protect herself if need be.

Weaknesses:
She works well with others but if you put her in a situation where she needs to speak alone (such as a speech) she will instantly freeze up. She can also be very shy and quiet at times so some people will look right past her. If you take away her glasses she cannot see anything more than blurry shapes. Can't forget that she is also very claustrophobic, so I don't recommend shutting her in any tight spaces.

Talents:
She is a very talented researcher, and is good at what she does. When she really wishes/needs to be she can be assertive and almost dominant to an extent (which often throws people off guard from her generally submissive and quiet self)

Personality:
Normally a very quiet and hard working individual, most people overlook her and don't see her as much. She's just another science geek with glasses who is relatively smart, or at least smart enough to be competent in her job. A kind individual, though, she won't hesitate to help if someone asks and often times will find herself bogged down with favors to fulfill. However, she also has another side to her sweet, quiet, personality which few see often. Those that do usually stop and stare. This side is a more direct and abrasive one with an edge that you don't want to mess with her.

History:
Recent graduate of Venus Tech University, she is a researcher who has been granted an opportunity to take over a position at a company. After meeting with Raze Charente she quickly grew fond of the woman and has secretly held a private relationship with her, though most don't know this of her. Raze is preparing her to take over her position at M-tech.

Her skin is an ivory hue and accentuated in an almost luminescent gleam. Glo beneath the third layer of skin...operation to bring out her 'potential' and draws gazes to her wherever she goes. Dark impish eyes beneath curled eyelashes and just enough hint of makeup to smooth her complexion helps create the perfect woman for most men between Earth and Pluto. She usually wears dresses cut or tight in all the right places, but for his trip she's opted to wear more practical (If not altered to be more revealing) garments.

History:

Born on Venus, Zeel was supposed to become a mechanic like her father and his father. There was no mother, a frail shadow who fled when raising a child seemed too hard. Her father was always busy with work and didn't have time to teach poor Zeel that there were bad people in the world. They found her. She's never spoken a word about it, but blames the world for what had been done to her. To leave Venus, one must have the money to travel on a ship. Unfortunately mechanics weren't paid much...everyone on the rock had a mind or two around the nuts and bolts and so competition was fierce.

It began as a few dances, a photo shoot...the money was good and she was appreciated. More than appreciated, she was admired and loved. Unlike those who had mistreated her before, the public seemed to adore every inch and curve of her body. So she used them. She has enough money to go about anywhere now and she's at the point where clients must meet her expectations first.

But beneath her haughty confidence there is a hollow shell full of hate and bitter memories...a condition which may never improve. In a sense, she is possessed by her past...she just has the good sense not to show it.

(1) I've already put up the IC thread here... You can already start posting there, interacting amongst yourselves. Just don't forget to put summaries in your posts, containing, at the very least, where your character is, what he/she has done.
(2) Feel free to use the maps in the third post of this thread. I will be adding the maps for the "Enlightenment" once we reach there.
(3) Cor's, Angl's and Jack's characters are all accepted.
(4) Cor, Angl, and Jack, feel free to start anywhere you like.

err.. update?
things are getting bad on my end of things lately, and that might have affected my handling of this RP, if that's so, my apologies. anyways, that condition might be true for a while longer, as my real life needs most of my attention now.

I would leave Vay in charge of things, mainly, dealing with you guys, and introducing the other characters (Angl's char, Cor's char, and Jack's char) into the story, for now. Please keep interacting amongst yourselves and try to know each other enough. I'll be back with the next chapter, and the actual start of the game.

whew~ announcement!

There was a bit of a plot hole involving my post, Vay's post, and Char's post. Angl's and Cor's characters weren't in the dining room when my character asked Vay's character to take over.... and that started the mess. However, I already got it fixed and their characters are now in the dining room. (The edit was done in my last post, the last part, to be exact.) Char's post and Vay's post might need some adjustments too, but they're already okay as they are.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks.

Also, I am still in hiatus.. ^__^
