Pokemon Madness!

Artemis snorted as Lizzy talked about her fear of animals. It had been evident from the very beginning that Lizzy was afraid of anything that wasn't human, though at first she had thought it was merely a side effect of their transport to a whole new freaking Universe. However, when Lizzy stated that fact about her it all made sense. "Horses are amazing and they love the water. I've been wanting to take Apollo, my school horse, to the beach for ages, but the trip would be too expensive and time consuming. I wonder what you would do if you met a horse pokemon. There are a couple of them throughout the games. I'm not sure if they will have one in this one too." She said as she felt Lizzy pulling her along, out of whatever reason. She had tried to do her best to follow along, but thankfully Lizzy remembered her predicament and slowed down.

"Shoveling dung is a minor inconvinience when it comes to spending time with them. It's not like they can help it." She added as she pulled her phone out and used the flashlight to help ease out their treck. They should've come by a marking by now and it started to worry Artemis a lot. If her foot was alright, then she might've felt more confident about spending the night outside. She bit her lower lip, but said nothing of what was on her mind as to not make Lizzy worried again.

"Wow. You have a horse you're learning on." Lizzy said, half-reverently, half-wistfully. "A horse pokemon doesn't sound so bad." The phone was a concerning sign for Lizzy, though. It meant things had gotten bad enough to need to rely on light. And they still hadn't gotten to a sign. Letting go of Artemis and directing her to a stump to sit down, she said, "Stay there for now." Nervously, she ventured deeper into the darkness, peering at each tree, the landscape growing stranger with the changing light. After staring down some trees, and starting to grow panicked by the lack of a sign, she finally saw a mark there. A sigh of relief came puffing out of her lungs. "I found one, Artemis!" She said, waving at her and flashing her own phone light at her to hail her over.

Artemis sat on the stump, realizing that Lizzy had the right idea about how to proceed, but it didn't make Artemis any less nervous. With her leg sprained like that she couldn't run, she couldn't defend herself and she could definitely not reach Lizzy in time should anything happen. She kept her light on towards the direction Lizzy had gone off to. It would make it easier for the girl to follow the light back. If she didn't plan on abandoning Artemis at the prospect of getting back to the cabin faster. The cabin was their safest spot at the moment and Artemis couldn't have blamed Lizzy if she did, regardless if it would hurt her feelings.

Yet Lizzy soon called out to her, bubbling with excitement about how she had found a marking and Artemis was thankful to the darkness hiding her blush of embarrassment for ever considering the posibility of Lizzy abandoning her. "Great! I also found a crouch." Artemis said and raised a rather long and thick branch that she had managed to collect using her knife from a nearby tree. "Now let's get back to the cabin. I'd like to tie this up as soon as possible. I don't want to be out of comission more than I absolutely have to."

With her new crutch at hand, Artemis stood up and moved slowly but surely towards Lizzy's light. Now they were getting somewhere.

Feeling nervous about losing the mark she'd so frantically searched for, Lizzy made no move to help Artemis over, waiting instead as the other girl hobbled to join her. A breeze rustled through the trees, and Lizzy shivered slightly, nervous on top of being cold. She did wish Artemis would hurry up a little. She wanted to ask what a "crouch" was supposed to be, but decided against it, in case it made Artemis lose focus on walking.

The two of them went the rest of the way back to the cabin mostly in silence, as Lizzy was laser-focused on finding each of the marks in the dark landscape, leaving Artemis to follow behind slowly. When they finally reached the cabin, Lizzy breathed a huge sigh of relief, though it had taken them almost three times as long to get there as it had to go up the hill in the first place. As soon as they got inside and she got some lamps lit, however, she froze, noticing something on the countertop that had definitely not been there before. It looked like a small... spider. With a bubble covering its head. She backed away hastily until her back pressed up against the wall, praying desperately that it wouldn't start heading for her.

Getting back was a really slow process, but it was also faster than it would be if she was still holding on to lizzy while they looked for the markings. They were really lucky Artemis had been able to find that stick to support her weight, otherwise she would most likely had to crawl her way back to the cabin. She wasn't eager to do that just yet.

Artemis was about to latch the door shut as Lizzy went in and lit a couple of lamps to make the cabin feel less threatening and cold. The scrambling, frantic noises coming from Lizzy made her whip her head around. There, on the counter, a spider-like pokemon was going about its business. It was yet another pokemon Artemis was not familiar with and Lizzy had glued herself to the wall. "Lizzy, don't move and don't make a sound." Artemis said calmly and with a low tone to the panicked girl. These were close quarters and, if the pokemon decided it didn't like their presence there, things could get uglier than with the Exeguttor.

She stepped aside and opened the door as she moved so that the pokemon, or themselves really, could make a quick escape if needed. "Totodile?" She whispered as she searched for signs of the little blue crocodile, but the cupboard it previously had turned into a nest was empty.

Lizzy wanted to object that she wasn't making any noises and not really moving at this point, but all sound was stuck in her throat. She wasn't sure why a Totodile would make Artemis feel any better about facing off a weird spider, but she was mostly going to trust Artemis's judgment on that. And then the large spider-looking thing turned around and seemed to look straight at her, its legs seeming to hold its bubble on top of its large head. For a second, the two of them just looked at each other. She coughed up a little quiet laughter and quaveringly whispered, "It's... kinda cute."

Then it scuttled towards her, almost curiously, and Lizzy lost it, she shrieked and jumped back, scrambling on top of the bed.

Lizzy listened to her. Despite her fear of animals and pokemon, she stayed put and even managed to comment that the new spiderlike pokemon was cute, which really threw Artemis off. Aand then the pokemon moved and Lizzy had to scream and jump on the bed. As if that would save her from the approaching creature. Totodile was nowhere to be found and Artemis wasn't exactly in confrontation condition. But she couldn't leave Lizzy to fend off on her own, though she would probably strangle her once this was over.

"Hey!" She yelled at the creature and banged her tree branch turned crutch on the wooden floor of the cabin to get its attention. She had no idea what she would do if the creature decided to attack them, but she knew her chances were slightly better with her being practically next to the door and could get outside with just one step, unlike Lizzy who was trapped at the back of the cabin.

The creature had jumped when Lizzy had screamed, its legs scrabbling against the counter top as it scrambled slightly backwards, before seeming to realize that might make it seem weak. It seemed to puff itself up and make as if to charge, but Artemis distracted it with her own yell, poised to jump out of the door. Lizzy actually started feeling a little sorry for the little creature. A regular spider would've just scared her, but being as big as it was, with its noticeable facial expressions, she could tell they were kind of scaring it.

It seemed to be contemplating how best to charge Artemis, gearing itself up and lowering its head at her. In a mad dash, Lizzy jerked forward and grabbed a large plastic pitcher from the kitchen counter behind it, and slamming it on top of the creature before she could lose her nerve. She shut her eyes at the last minute, so it was a wonder that she managed to get the pitcher over it. She peeked on eye open and squeaked, because that was right when it chose to headbutt the pitcher hard, making her lose her grip on the plastic for just a moment, before slapping her hands back on top of it. "Uh... Artemis." She called, eyes now glued anxiously on the captured animal. "Th-these understand speech... or something. Right?" Oh please let the answer be yes.

Artemis blinked and stood frozen in surprise at what Lizzy had just done. Not only had she moved to help despite her fear, though her angry part muttered something about how the screaming had made things worse in the first place, but she had actually managed to capture the unknown pokemon. "Uh, yeah they do. I don't know if it will listen to you though." She replied with a few seconds delay.

She felt tempted to ask what Lizzy was planning, but she was too shocked at the development to do anything other than reply and stare in disbelief. She just hoped the creature wouldn't use one of its attack moves to get out of the pitcher.

Lizzy was shaking, but she managed to gulp down a little air and squint at the little creature inside the pitcher. "O-okay. Don't- don't attack me okay?" She asked it, trying to meet its beady little eyes. "Oh my gosh, I don't know what I'm doing." She muttered half to herself. "H-hey." She tried. "Let's... let's just talk about this. I don't want any trouble. You- you like... bugs or... fish or something?" Even she didn't know what the hell she was trying to do, but the small creature appeared to be considering her carefully. It wasn't a huge step up, but at least it wasn't blindly attacking them anymore. "I don't know, do you hunt on your own? Maybe we can help each other." It didn't respond in any particular manner, just continuing to stare at her with its weird blue eyes and little "o" of a mouth. Lizzy plopped her forehead onto the counter. This was definitely hopeless. "What am I doing...?" she moaned. "Your turn." She told Artemis in a muffled voice, still holding onto the pitcher. The little spider turned its oversized head to look at Artemis.

Artemis watched the exchange with a tired smile on her face. Lizzy was actually making an effort despite her fear and that seemed to have gotten the little water spider's attention. When the girl asked for help, she used her stick to limb her way over to the nearest chair, positioning it so that the road leading to the door was wide open. She sat down with a sigh of relief as the pain, fading adrenaline and exhausting were taking their toll on her. "We didn't mean to attack you or scare you." She said to the pokemon in a sincere, calm tone. "We are stuck here, so we will be living in this cabin for a while. If it's food you were looking for we could give you some. We will let you go if you promise not to attack us."

The little monster seemed to regard them both, looking back and forth between the girl with the bad leg, the open door, and the girl with her forehead on the counter. It went right up to the side of the pitcher closest to Lizzy and tapped on the plastic. She looked up at it and it nodded at her. For a second she froze, then she remembered what they'd agreed on and slowly lifted the pitcher. It scuttled out, startling her again, and before she'd had a chance to react, it had scampered right up her arm and onto her head. She shrieked again and ducked, but for a long moment, neither of them moved, and then she realized it had settled on top of her head, and was waiting for her to finish her freak out.

Lizzy stood up slowly and turned her head equally slowly to look at Artemis, shaking slightly. "S-so. Uh. I'm... going to close the door." She said, and moved to do it. It had been a long day, and she really wasn't looking forward to letting in another pokemon and having to deal with that one, too.

Artemis could stop herself and she started laughing as Lizzy freaked out once again, only this time with a pokemon nestled on her hair and patiently waiting for her to finish. It was a sight that Artemis only expected in comedies and cartoons. She knew it was probably mean of her to do so, but she really couldn't help it and it also improved her mood significantly. Slowing down to a few chuckles, she nodded at Lizzy, who went to close the door with the bubble spider snuggling on her head still. "Sorry..." She said apologetically before adding "Could you lock the door? Just for good measure?"

She reached over to the metal box containing the medical supplies they had found earlier in the day and thanked their luck for the pokemon hadn't tried to get it open. It was intact and Artemis pulled out a roll of bandage. Then she settled to work on her injured leg. She carefully removed her boot and sock, taking in sharp breaths whenever she had to tilted her ankle. "Γαμώτο." She cursed in Greek as she saw the swollen ankle. This couldn't have happened at a worst time. But it had and now she would have to figure how to go about stuff with one leg pretty much incapacitated. She carefully made sure to bandage her ankle so that it was snug but didn't cut off her circulation, which wasn't easy both because of the pain and because she hadn't done this all that many times before.

Γαμώτο = Fuck!

Like there was a chance she wasn’t going to lock the door. Lizzy locked the door as soon as it closed. She watched Artemis nervously as she more properly tended to her leg. She wanted to help somewhat, but Lizzy had less than no experience fixing up other people, and the other girl seemed to have some idea of what she was doing, so all she could do was hover and watch.

She tipped her head slightly upwards in an attempt to look at the little spider on her head. "I know I told you we’d share food with you, but I think we mostly just have a bunch of super sour berries in here. We’ll get more tomorrow." It was less scary when it wasn’t moving and she wasn’t looking at it. She frowned slightly. "How did you get in here anyways?"

It scuttled off her head and onto her shoulder so she could look at it. She regretted it as soon as she did. Yep, it was still darn scary. Ignoring that, it gestured at something. She followed where it was pointing and made her way into the kitchen. There was a small faucet with a drain, and the creature gestured at it. So it had crawled up the pipes. Lizzy rummaged around until she found a suitably large plastic bowl, then place it on top and piled any number of utensils and other items in the bowl. She was not going to be able to sleep if she had to worry about more monsters coming crawling up the pipes.

Taking some of the extra blankets, she made a small fort for herself on the floor, and was asleep within minutes, forgetting the small creature that had made itself a small place next to her.

Artemis had nodded approvingly at the slight paranoid move of trapping the drain with that bowl. She had no idea what the chances were that another pokemon like the little bubble spider would enter through those pipes, or where the pipes lead for that matter, but she didn't want to risk it either. She also felt a small feeling of warmth forming in her chest as Lizzy silently grabbed the extra blankets and graciously gave up the bed for the floor. She was fast asleep within minutes and Artemis found herself smilling at the sight of the fearful girl now cuddled with a pokemon that had pretty much claimed her as its human.

But she found herself unable to sleep just yet. Out of respect for her now sleeping roommate, she was quick to unfurl and set up the sleeping bag on the bed, so she could make as little sound as possible when she would finally go to sleep. She allowed only the small lantern that was handy to shine for her and in a way that would shed as little light on Lizzy's eyes as possible, before picking up the book and taking a look at its contents. It now had the entries for the weird Exeguttor they had encountered, the little spider pokemon and the small dog pokemon that had helped her out and had disappeared somewhere to lick its wounds. She would have to keep a close look on that book. It updated much like a pokedex but she didn't even have to scan the pokemon or fight it like in the anime or the games.

Reading all of the information the book was able to provide her with, which wasn't very much considering it said nothing of the pokemons' abilities, personality tendencies for the most part, her eyes began to close. She limped over to the bed and wrapped herself in the sleeping bag as quietly as possible. She slept like a log after waking up by her ankle killing her from the pain of being squished awkwardly as she turned. But after figuring she just had to carefully turn or not move at all, she was able to get a decent sleep.

She was the first one to wake up that morning. The sun was already out, but it wasn't high enough to be too late in the morning. Her watch was pretty much useless in the sense that she had missed sunrise and couldn't possibly know if the 8AM it indicated was accurate or not. She took a brief look at Lizzy before sitting on the bed and testing her ankle a little. A small hiss escaped her. Yup. She was definitely going to need that crutch of hers today for sure. Sighing, she allowed herself to plop back on the bed. She was not ready to get out and face their crazy reality just yet.

So she just laid there, planning their next move. They would still have to climb back up and see if they could discover their location on the Region Map. It was really important. They still had some berries for breakfast and a lot of dried food according to Lizzy. A vehicle that needed checking and, now that it was morning and had plenty of daylight ahead of them, it would be a good time for looking for potential roads for said vehicle. If they could find a road they could find a boat, or a small haven for a boat that could've transported that vehicle there. She really hoped it wasn't dropped there by helicopter.

With her foot like that, Artemis knew she could go too far away from the cabin. She would have to do 'chores' but she also didn't trust Lizzy going out there on her own, what with her whole fear of animals and pokemons. She wouldn't forgive herself if the girl had a panic attack all alone and got hurt or worse. Of course they would have to discuss the whole thing together, but Artemis had a pretty good idea about what the girl's opinion would be.

She didn't know how much time she spend listening to the sounds of the island waking up and staring at the ceiling until finally, the little spider began to rustle in the blanket fort.

Lizzy rose decently early most days, but the previous day had been exhausting, and by the time she woke, the sun had already risen. She opened her eyes blearily to the sunlight streaming through the window in the small cabin. She stared somewhat grumpily at the sheets she'd used to protect her from the cold, and then realized there was something in there with her. A cute little blue-green spider with a funny o-shaped mouth was staring right back at her. It was tapping at her face.

For half a second, Lizzy was frozen with fear. Then she choked on a yelp and scrambled up out of bed. Okay, no matter how cute she thought the little monster could be at times, she was never going to get used to that. She huffed slightly and then scrunched up her face, holding a hand out to the monster with her eyes jammed shut, so it could scramble its way up onto her shoulder. "H-hey. Artemis. Good morning? You awake?"

Artemis had managed to doze off a bit, but the commotion made her snap her eyes open and turn to face the source of the rustling and the choked yelps. A long sigh of relief escaped her and she slowly sat up on the bed, carefull as not to move her ankle too much. Though she had made sure to securely bandage it, the limb still had enough leeway for it to hurt if moved abruptly. "Yeah I'm awake." She said as she got up, voice still slightly hoarse from sleep.

She rubbed her face a bit and stretched, taking a deep breath. "I've been awake for a while now, thinking. My leg's not any better than yesterday." She informed Lizzy and looked at the little spider pokemon curiously. "It's a good thing we have enough food to go around so we don't really have to wonder off right away." Then she blushed and rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly as if remembering something. "Thanks for giving me the bed.... did you sleep alright?"

"Oh, I sleep fine wherever." Lizzy said with a snort. "I used to sleep curled onto my pillow when I was a kid. Do you want me to make some food? Or I can go look for food to hunt or a road. It's better than sitting here all day." She sniffed a bit, stopping herself just as she realized she was starting to spiral into panic mode again. How long were they going to be stuck here? What were they going to do until then? How would they even start knowing how to get out? What with Artemis' bum leg what if something started to attack them again. She swallowed and took a deep, steadying breath. "Yeah. I'm going to go look around a bit. After breakfast or something."

Artemis was really thankful about Lizzy at this point. She might've been afraid of pokemon and really easy to panic as far as they had been in this situation, but she was a kind person and that brought Artemis great comfort even without realizing it. She didn't blame Lizzy for being easy to panic of course. Their situation was something that no one could have ever imagine actually happening and they were stuck alone and with no human that could help them or explain to them what was going on. She would've panicked too, but having both of them fully panicked wouldn't do any good to either of them and that was the only thing stopping her from thinking too much into this.

When Lizzy sniffed, Artemis' first reaction was to reach out for her hand but she stopped as she didn't know how Lizzy might take to the action and she didn't want to weird her out more than she already was. "I'd rather we avoid hunting until I can move again and we have pokemons to protect us. Berries and the likes are okay. If we want meat we can tap in the provisions of the cabin." She said thoughtfully and started to get out of bed. "Let's make breakfast for now. Before you go, I suggest you read the book. It has some information on all the pokemon we have seen so far. It might also be a good idea if you and Dewpider..." She said, calling the little spider pokemon with its species name and looking at it briefly before looking back at Lizzy. "...train instead of explore. At least for a little while. It seems to have chosen you as its human or something."

Lizzy frowned a bit at Artemis as she began moving around. "Don't put too much pressure on the leg. The more you rest it, the faster you'll heal, and it's better for all of us if you heal quickly." Her tone was surprisingly sharp, all things considered, certainly more stern and matter-of-fact than any other tone she'd adopted before, but it was daylight, and fussing at people was one thing she could do just fine. The moment passed quite quickly, though, and her frown of consternation changed to one of confusion. "Train? What do you mean train?" She squinted down at the little spider on her sho- nope, still a mistake. Swallowing back the fear that had started rising in her throat again, she very deliberately did not look at the little spider on her shoulder, but she had to wonder what exactly was the point of trying to train... a spider. Especially a ridiculous-looking spider with a bubble on its head. In those video games, didn't you just... like, feed them, and they would magically level up or something?
