"A subject?" Exandra chuckled at Zeke's curiosity. She waved it off before returning her eyes to the Oddish hybrid. "Oh, come now, you fool. Just because I'm a scientist does not mean I lack my own Pokemon... companions. You've met"--she sneezed--"Sniu and Snippet already. Mandy enjoys it here pleeenty more than she does the ocean, no? Mandy?" (Snippet being the Lampent downstairs - not that the boys had any idea, though Annabelle did.)
The Carvanha's mouth popped open in response, revealing double rows of dagger-sharp teeth. Ignoring the gleam in her fangs, one could interpret that face as a smile. Exandra too gave a soft smile to herself, not that the other three trainers saw her. Her voice calmed down for only this moment. "She was... my first. Anyway!" Her voice snapped back to its normal jumpy pitch, and immediately they were back to business about the attack on Silverton.
Exandra nodded with every detail Zeke could indulge on, also taking into consideration Annabelle's input. Being the Professor, Exandra herself was not keen so much on battle strategy as much as she was on battle habits, biological response, and improvement rates. She never needed to rely on other trainers - much less children - to carry out continental quests to examine these things. Annabelle was plenty help already.
Once Zeke concluded his explanation, Exandra's smile had reached its widest point. When she turned to face them, Farid jolted from fright. "You have my gratitude. This knowledge you have provided me from what you've witnessed will assist me in my... examination." Exandra sniveled and wrinkled her nose. Her shaky hands gave life to every word with exaggeration. "This is... a brand new phenomenon. New! One completely unheard of here in Ellenses! At least, not since Unova's Kyurem Crisis or whatever you fools call it nowadays."
She pushed her glasses up her nose. "Now, I work best without much interference. Especially none from... her." She stole a glance to Annabelle with a sly smile; it was truly in jest. "So you must understand... Do please make your way back out the doors, hmm? Sniu can guide you if you're too imbecilic to find it on your own." She lifted her finger. "It's happened before, you know. Annabelle remembers him quite clearly."
With a nod, she turned back around and leaned forward to closely examine the Oddish hybrid once again.

Farid wasn't quite ready to go, however. "Wait... wait no," he scratched his mohawk in confusion (he typically removed his hood indoors). "That's it? That's all you can tell us...?"
Exandra didn't even look back to them, but they could almost hear her roll her eyes. "Well, yes, what else did you expect? I assume you know that these creatures were experimental - that is, hybridized by someone rather than by natural forces."
"Well, yeah, but..."
"But what?" The Professor glanced over her shoulder to the trio behind her. She twitched her nose again. "This specimen, it has no... date stamp. No signature, no fingerprints - other than your own. Nothing of telling detail to point in whatever direction you were hoping to find here. At least no direction that I'm aware of. Tell me," she pressed her glasses back up her nose again as she returned her attention to the Oddish. "Is there anything else I could answer for you?"
Meanwhile as Xavier dashed about, Coco hopped out from Farid's backpack and followed him around. She mimicked his odd posture as he ran, including arching her back whenever he did. Mighty, who followed everyone up the stairs as well, merely watched with curious eyes and a twitchy nose.
