The Vampire's Lament

Refrain:
Oh, do you know the ancient tale
Of the vampire's lament?
A man once gave away his soul,
His fate he would resent.

(I)
There once was a young farm owner,
For his loved ones he plied,
Dearly he loved his wife and child,
But by the plague they died.

(II)
Distraught from the loss he suffered,
His will to live was lost,
He made a deal for a new life,
Never knowing the cost.

Refrain:
Oh, do you know the ancient tale
Of the vampire's lament?
A man once gave away his soul,
His fate he would resent.

(III)
He was no longer a mortal but
A being of the night.
His skin was pale, his blood ran cold,
And deadly was his bite.

(IV)
Unable to let go the man
Retained humanity.
But with each drop of blood he drank,
He lost his sanity.

Refrain:
Oh, do you know the ancient tale
Of the vampire's lament?
A man once gave away his soul,
His fate he would resent.

(V)
For years he searched for those like him,
For those who knew his pain.
He found only more misery,
His heart ached with disdain.

(VI)
Centuries passed slowly, never
A sunrise did he see.
Doomed to a life of loneliness
For all eternity.

Refrain:
Oh, do you know the ancient tale
Of the vampire's lament?
A man once gave away his soul,
His fate he would resent.
