[dash=#FF800D]Halloween is almost here, everyone. For this week and the next, I simply as for something Halloween themed for my poem challenge! If you don't celebrate Halloween, then write something else. If you have holidays this month, then use those. Or, just write about the Autumn season. I'll also allow just a downright creepy poem, if you want. >:3

I offer a list of ideas you can use as inspiration if you need it:

  • Pumpkins
  • Costumes
  • Food
  • Monsters
  • Villains
  • Trick or Treat
  • Horror movie characters
  • Zombies
  • Vampires

I encourage you to make the poem(s) look pretty with bbcodes. (; And if you desire a specific structure for your poems, I recommend Shadow Poetry. Don't hesitate to ask any questions!

(No title, just a random piece I slapped together)

Where the dark shadows cast
Upon gravestones worn by time away
Where ghouls shriek
and Ghosts play

A headless horseman
Jack O' Lanterns on porches
Kids scream for candy
Falling like blood from scratches

This is Halloween
All Hallows Eve
The devils night, the night of fright
A night meant to deceive

A night of horrors, a night of terrors
A night of alcohol and decisions not remembered
All made up, unrecognizable
Costumes so complex, limbs perhaps dismembered?

Never been very good at poetry, but I felt like writing something up about the holiday that had some sort of ties with my pagan roots. Its pretty bad in my opinion...

Green leaves turn to Autumn reds
Children lay upon their beds
Dreaming deep of sugar and fun
Long after the lack of sun
Late at night the veil is near
The world about to feel the fear
Ghosts come out and are running free
Looking for their family.
Quick young sir and don thy mask!
One moment while I grab my flask.
Set the pumpkins out on the porch
Walk outside bearing our torch
Day of the dead from the most ancient of days
Little still follow the pagan ways
Yet deep in the woods this October night
You will find a circle lit by firelight
Gathering of pagans who still walk the path
Magic cleansing such as a bath

Zombie's Breath

I hear screams,
Woken from my bed

I hear screams,
Everyone is half dead.

They claw
And grab
And bite

I hold my bat ever tight...

Windows rattle,
Glass breaks,
I pray my child doesn't shake

Doors break down,
Flesh is torn,
My mind and strength are becoming worn

Craniums crack from rotten teeth,
Brains ooze out from beneath,

Slurps of drool,
And moans so deep...
I am lacking much needed sleep

My child was caught,
What a fool....
I'm affraid I've joined the ranks of ghouls

;) simple poem for the simple minded.

Day of the Dead

The dead will rise, they wake tonight
From their slumber at moon's first light,
Stir from their graves, open their eyes,
Curl their fingers toward the skies,
With those once lost we reunite.

Paint your faces in black and white,
Dress up in festive costumes bright,
And please the spirits with this guise.--
The dead will rise...

Rejoice as the spirits take flight,
Feel the fire in your soul ignite,
Meeting once again those we prise,
Death this ceremony defies,
We celebrate this sacred rite,
The dead will rise.
