location: Menderine Center
The Menderine Center is a well known and respected medical research facility known for the production of many life saving artificial skin, organ and limb prototypes. They have also been the developers of widely used and accepted vaccines for many deadly diseases all over the galaxy. All a world need do, is submit a sample of tainted blood, or send a patient to them and their team will begin to develop a cure.
What is not known about the center is that there are other activities and experiments going on that are not public knowledge. One such program is the Virtual Deprivation Chamber or VDC. These chambers deprive the inhabitant of any and all physical sensory reception and then virtually input all data thus producing actual cognizant memories that are often more fixed in the 'patient' that their actual memories.
The tests have been very successful, and though this was originally begun as a means to erase traumatic memories from victims, it is now being explored as a means of creating highly motivated assassins who believe their targets have greatly wronged them in some personal way. However, one woman they placed in the chamber did not respond to the virtual stimuli but instead over rode it and somehow used the virtual input devices to 'see' and hear those who were running the experiment. She is now under close observation and being tested to see exactly who sort of abilities she has, and how powerful those abilities are.
She is not the only such person. Since the first, there have been four others. All having different phenomenon occurring, but all failed to receive the stimuli from the machine. One man, when placed in the chamber saw things that were impossibly far away, on another planet in great clarity and detail. Another was able to hear a distress beacon from five light years away.
Now the thrust of the chamber is to uncover, latent abilities and train them for use.
