The damned, the outcasts, those with wayward spirits, all those who have been displaced and the broken hearted flee. Sometimes, our hearts just can't stand staying in one place, in the very place that we have been hurt so. A ship sets sail for the seas, to venture to the unknown and to destroy any who would get in the way of paradise, to the open seas and a better life. For this ship is the Great Phoenix, one of the largest pirate ships known to the West-Indies, its captain, John ' 'Johnny' Bard, is set on finding new lands, glory and fame. It will be a hard life, and you'll never know true civilian life again, nor ever see those who you hold dear to you, because once you sign on as Captain Bard's crew, you can never return. But a life is promised to you of fame, fortune, glory, redemption, and a new and exciting life. Though you are not promised to survive the battles or the journey, Great Iguana is the main target. But the Navy is set on upon all pirating ships, determined to sink every last one of them. Other pirate ships are constantly at war with the Great Phoenix, yet hope prevails for the crew when a heist of a large fort is planned. If they capture the fort, they hold the power of not only Great Iguana, but of the entire area. The possibility for a fleet will open, and their lives very well might look up from the past lives they had once lived.

Will you take it?

Rules
1. No God Modding/Meta Gaming, power playing, Gary or Mary suing..
Meta Gaming is using player knowledge in character knowledge. If we are planning something in the OOC (Out Of Character), do not us it in the IC (In Character). You may know it, but your character (s) do not.
Your character is over powered. Nobody can defeat him/her/other, and they are basically gods. This is a big no no.
You control someone else's character without permission.
Your character is perfect in every way, has a typical tragic past (though tragic pasts are NOT bad! Just if they fit this description). This character is the example for Donut Steel)
2. Only two sets of pistols, two swords and a couple daggers for everyone (message me with other weapons choices)
3. No Auto Hits (severe ones)
4. No one liners, make an effort to at least make a paragraph
5. Misspelling happens, but please try your best.
6. Side GMing will be stopped at the first warning because I do not issue a second
7. If you have a problem, please contact me and do not duke it out in the OOC
8. Keep OOC in the OOC thread only
9. Again, you can have a tragic past but give it good thought. You don't have to have one, but make the reason you've gone on this voyage interesting!
10. Any sexual orientation/gender identity is welcomed here. Typically, people in this day and age would be in serious shit for this, but you are on board the Great Phoenix and the rules are different. However, those who are posing as females, you must go undercover when going into cities and towns.

Roles

Captain: John 'Johnny' Bard (Played by: @LogicfromLogic)

The captain is voted in typically, however, since it was his ship and his decision, Johnny will remain as captain. However, he is required to maintain not too meek a rule but not too aggressive one, because it makes for mutiny and poor recruitment. The captain leads the charge in battles and expeditions, and helps the navigator decide where to go. The destination is always chosen upon but the Quarter Master, Captain and Navigator.

Navigator: Reserved

The Navigator is the one that is the main course layer, and he/she/other is the one that steers most of the time. They use the stars at night to travel, also in charge of creating maps and sailing charts. Really it is guesswork.

Quarter Master: Illario Corvacho (Player: @GoodEveningClarice)

The Quarter Master is the second most important person on ship. They are in charge of seeing the captain's orders followed through, handling every day management of the ship. They divide up the crew when it comes time to plunder, and giving the rightful share to the crew members once finished. They are also in charge of discipline on board, even going as far as floggings if the crime fits it. However, for serious crime it is taken to pirate's court.

Boatswain: Argus Maupin (@dunruffle)

The boatswain is in charge of the care of the boat herself. Includes leading shore parties for supplies needed for the ship, cleaning of her. They also oversee dropping the anchor and hoisting it up.

Doctor: Carlisle Gray (Player: @Moon Child)

Self explanatory. You do not have modern medicine.

Master Gunner: Reserved

The Master Gunner is in charge of the cannons and firing them. They have to be good at what they do, for their hit is what matters the most in battle. It is win or lose with them, so they must be marksmen. In charge of everything to do with cannons.

History
He was born to two peasants, their last son, but not last child. However, his little sister was stolen away, and they treated him as if he were the reason for it. His family finally drove him to run away from his home and never look back. He started a new life as a ranch hand, and fell in love with the farmer's daughter. She fancied him dearly, but her heart fell for another at the last moment. Heartbroken and angry, he challenged the suitor to a duel. Though he fought valiantly, he lost the battle. And to add insult to injury, the man tore a wicked scar across his right eye, leaving him to die. But he survived and months later, after his recovery, he planned to set sail for Great Iguana, where he could at last let the past go and live his life in peace. On the day that he was to depart, his previous 'love' approached him and begged forgiveness. You see, her new love had left her for another woman. He laughed at her and told her off, not willing her to break him again.

He became the Captain to the Great Phoenix.

Name: Illario Corvacho

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Sex: Male

Sexual Orientation: Bisexual with a preference for men when it comes to actual relationships

Relationship/Other Status: Taken

5 Good Traits:
1. Illario is well educated and cultured. He knows dance, singing, a bit of cooking, and how to blend in with the upper class.
2. He is exceptionally disciplined. Once he decides to do something he'll do whatever it takes to make it happen.
3. He's very loyal to Johnny and the crew as a whole. This in turn means he's extremely protective of it.
4. He's diplomatic when he so chooses to be. He has no problem putting his good looks and flattery to use when he finds himself in a sticky situation
5. Despite being a pirate, Illario is very clean and picky about his surroundings. He ensures a clean environment is available to him at all times.

5 Bad Traits:
1. Illario can be extremely cold-hearted and ruthless when it comes to those he thinks are performing below par. He is essentially merciless.
2. He has a bad habit of enforcing his high standards on others which makes him very difficult to approach and has cost him friends in the past.
3. Illario is very bitter about certain subjects and has a hard time not writing off other people's happiness.
4. To top off everything else, Illario is extremely promiscuous. This in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but his disregard for other people's feelings is sometimes painful to watch.
5. Somehow, even though he dislikes most everything and seems to fear commitment, he gets very mopey at times at his lack of romantic success.

Race: European, Spanish in particular.

Role: Quartermaster

Kin: None living

Hair Style: Illario wears his hair long and keeps it clean. It has a bit of wave to it but is otherwise unremarkable.

Hair Colour: Dark brown/black

Eye Colour: Pale blue

Outfit: Perhaps due to his upbringing, Illario doesn't care for overly dramatic clothes. He wears a sturdy black over coat over a typical loose white shirt, which he typically only laces halfway. He also wears black trousers tucked into sturdy boots, also black. He doesn't like hats, but has been known to don a scarf now and then.

Other: Illario has a weakness for cats and makes sure to keep several on the ship to help with vermin and keep him company.

Weapons: Two standard pistols, one on each hip. And a beautiful saber he is very protective of.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ErgPbcTqack/UsEK2mWANYI/AAAAAAAAArA/Ea-hoE_9ow4/s1600/Collecting American Military Swords.jpg

He also keeps a pin knife in his boot he has no problem putting to use.

History: Illario comes from a family that has long been known for serving the Spanish royalty. From the time he could walk he was taught to be anything and everything the royals could need, some a body guard to a lover to a host at balls and the like. Well educated and well mannered, he was very popular among the nobility of his home country. Things took a turn for the worse when he fell in love a Lord, the husband of the King's sister. The two began a passionate affair that would end with the Lord's wife finding him in the arms of another man. At the age of 17, Illario found himself exiled, having narrowly escaped death due to the pleading of his parents. He joined up with a pirate crew to see the world, and has since learned the hardness of life on the sea. He has a collection of tattoos and a bad attitude to match. He was happy to find Johnny's crew and serve beneath him and has since risen to the position of Quarter Master.

Relationship/Other Status
Mentally in a relationship with avocado and cheese sandwiches.

5 Good Traits

1. Photographic memory - Definitely has its perks but it gets annoying when everyone starts asking you where they last left their spare eyepatch or being unnecessarily dragged into a dispute because you're the only one who remembers what happened last night after everyone passed out drunk.

2. Fast Learner - Maybe it has something to do with his adaptive mindset but most things click faster for him.

3. Advanced mechanical skills - Ever since he was a kid Carlisle has had memories of him tinkering away and building strange but oddly efficient contraptions. Of course now he's settled for just fixing things that are broken around the ship or assisting the Boatswain if prompted.

4. Calming atmosphere - You can't very well attempt to relocate a broken bone if your patient is wildly thrashing about in a delirious state of blood loss. So what do you do when a shot of rum isn't enough or the rare amounts of opium supplies have dwindled to about nothing? Brute force is definitely out of the question at this point. The answer is simple; become the anesthesia. You'll be surprised how far a few soothing words could go. And if all else fails a soft touch and reassuring silence can go a long way too.

5. Observant - He has the uncanny ability of being able to know things about a person before even they do. Its like he has a personal lie detector attached to his brain.

5 Bad Traits
1. Napper - Has the terrible habit of falling asleep in the most randomist places. Although he is a light sleeper so unless he's been drugged or completely tired out then the said place needs to be vaguely deserted.

2. Workaholic - For a person thats supposed to be the health care of the ship, Carlisle tends to completely forget the fact that he needs to eat and sleep like a human being too.

3. No sense of self preservation when others need his help - He could seriously be coughing up blood everywhere but he won't rest until he gets that splinter cut of yours nicely bandaged up.

4. Untidy - Its like the definition and existence of the word doesn't even affect him. Its mostly because he can remember where he leaves everything so the need for organization is basically...unneeded. Of course to keep the Quartermaster appeased he attempts to clean up once in a while. And by that I mean just shoving all his strange creations out of sight when Illario decides to check in. (WARNING his quarters is a disaster zone. Trespass at your own risk)

5. Blunt - Obviously Carlisle knows well enough to keep quite for his own good but that doesn't mean he won't tell a person off when they clearly deserve it. Most forget but he is still one of the youngest crewmembers onboard so slight childish bursts, though extremely rare, do occur. Especially when you press all the right buttons.

Kin
Damon Gray - Older Step brother. Currently stationed on the Great Iguana but Carlisle has no knowledge of that.

Outfit
A comfortable pair of dark brown pants and a white long sleeved shirt thats been bleached dozens of times. Double pistols rest in separate holsters by his side. His shoes are just simple black boots that reach an inch or two below his knees.

Other
As much as he is the doctor of the ship he is also considered the vet. So when animals get sick they're dropped off to him. Even though he badly wants a pet of his own all of his choices have been turned down for various reasons (he really doesn't get the fact why the crew would be bothered by a python. They were harmless. If you didn't get bitten). So he makes due by playing around with Fergus and the dozens of cats stowed away below deck.

If you make him a decent tasting avocado and cheese sandwich he will owe you one. And if you actually read through this whole CS (whoa breaking the fourth wall) then you know that there are several benefits that come with that.

He also occasionally spends his nights climbing the riggings and tracing the constellations. Being the navigator would have been easy if it weren't for the fact that he had no idea how to sail a ship. And there was no way the navigator now would let him.

One was obviously modified as heck but the other one is a work in progress right now. Honestly he uses the slingshot hidden in his shirt more than the two pistols anyways.

History
Unlike most children, Carlisle had been lucky enough to be born in a middle class family. There was always enough food, a comfortable space to live, and education wasn't a problem as his father was a professor. It was clear that his son had also developed a similar big brain and even the talent of invention. Carlisle's mother was an artist so she herself helped her son whenever he wanted to build something. They were a perfectly content and happy family. That was until Carlisle's father unfortunately died from tuberculosis. The only way his mother was able to keep them from the streets was to wed again. Some say it was out of pure luck that she had ended up marrying the governor's son and sometimes she believed it as well. They had both lost a very dear loved one but for him it was his wife just two years before Carlisle's father had died. Carlisle had been a bit unhappy about leaving their old home to move to his stepfather's manor but bit his tongue.

Although his initial hesitation had been forgotten however as his curiosity of his rather large new home dawned upon him. It was promptly crushed however when he had been introduced to his older step brother, Damon. He had been very polite and kind when they had been introduced but the moment they were left alone he changed significantly. For years he would verbally batter Carlisle with insults and continued demeaning him until unexpectedly stopping after his 17th birthday. Now he had just began to coldly ignore the boy which Carlisle preferred in the long run. That was around the time that the port they lived in was attacked by pirates. They had infiltrated the manor and had burned it to the ground after looting of course. Damon had managed to escape the blaze but unfortunately both of their parents had been unable to escape the fire.

Meanwhile Carlisle had been kidnapped and stowed away in the hull of the pirate ship. It was surprisingly easy for him to escape when they had docked into a new town. At the age of 14 it wasn't exactly easy for him to find a living but a local medic pitied the homeless young boy and took him in. The old man was surprised to find that Carlisle was exceptionally brilliant for his age and began educating him in medicine after the child had unexpectedly asked one day. Eventually after spending a year or so in the small town Carlisle was ready to make his journey back home. Thanking the old doctor for his hospitality he boarded onto the nearest ship. During his sailing journey however he came to learn of what happened to his parents and home. Assuming his older brother had died as well Carlisle left the ship as it docked to restock on supplies, already having lost all interest in returning to a place where he had nothing left.

Working his days away in a pub while tinkering away in its musty attic, he considered joining the Great Phoenix as one of his best ideas.
