19 November 2024 - 22 March 2025
The Rupture War is recognised as the most destructive conflict in history. The total damage is officially recorded at the equivalent of 17.82 trillion US dollars, including, but not limited to, the destruction of:
  • New York City, USA, Gaia
  • Jacksonville, Florida, USA, Gaia
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Gaia
  • Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, Gaia
  • Dortmund, Germany, Gaia
  • London, UK, Gaia
  • Paris, France, Gaia
  • To Partéri, Fyrensir, Sephyria
  • Lakterea, Sephyria
  • The Forest of the Damned, Apex
  • The Gap, Apex
  • The Queen's Forest, Apex
  • Forest of the Veil, Apex*
  • Exeter, UK, Gaia*
  • Trier, Germany, Gaia*
  • Salem, Massachusetts, USA, Gaia*
  • Greenland, Gaia
Note: All items marked with an asterisk (*) were destroyed by Ruin as a political statement

The war can be said to have become inevitable when a handful of arcanes were accidentally sent to Gaia through the Rupture as a result of both the Kronos Incident (Sephyria) and the Infinity Incident (Apex). From Sephyria, the prime candidate for the title of Oprostatis VI, Victor Lee; and his Avyerinos familiar, a Fey named Netta appeared. From Apex, a Wood Elf, Sylra Shotocean, self-titled Queen of the Forest; and a Fey vampire-noble, Lady Reyn Lirean. The materialisations took place in the same area as the Goliath Incident had eight years ago, and so it was exactly two months before the parties encountered one another. The resulting conflict drew the gaze of every eye in the world, including that of the Witch Hunt Initiative, who had recently acquired two Warlocks in their ranks (the incubus Count Anton Evael, Aegiator knight of Sephyria; and a classified individual identified as Gold).

The Witch Hunt deployed Abbadon Squad, the team containing these two Warlocks to hunt down and neutralise the warring parties, but Gaia was not aware of the powers of the Oprostatii, and according to eyewitness accounts, Lee tore open the Rupture without a moment's hesitation, allowing the armies of both Sephyria and Apex access to Gaia. This Opening can be considered the point at which the Rupture War began, and New York City was destroyed in within the month, causing over 70,000 civilian deaths and 400,000 casualties just among those who evacuated in the first week. The island and later the entirety of downstate New York was evacuated and deemed out of bounds by the US government in the hopes that the area would serve as a large enough battlefield to deter fighting from spreading.

The northern half of the state of Pennsylvania was destroyed in a single strike by the High Crown Aegiators of the Sephyrian High Elves. A statement was later issued to the world by Ouránia, High Crown of Chaotics on Promethean White, declaring:
Good evening to all of [Gaia], but especially to the governing body to the United States of America.

I am Ouránia, Avatress of the Winged Seven, High Crown of Chaotics of Promethean White. I know that that means nothing to a world such as yours, but I am contacting the denizens of [Gaia] today to explain something that you should be able to understand.

You cannot limit us. [...] We may war with Apex [...] but I speak for both our worlds. I am aware that you of America are very used to being able to tidily control situations [...] but you're also used to being the ones [...] with the stronger weapons. [...] When you march your men into a poor, unenlightened country, they fear and admire you, do they not? To them, [you are] gods and angels, arrived to free them from whatever terror plagues them, or to slaughter them indiscriminately.

[...]

You fail to understand that you are the unenlightened ones now. [...] We do not possess more powerful weapons; we are the more powerful weapons [...] and you are the barbarians now. Our bodies alone are capable of both [...] averting and [...] reenacting all the disasters you regret so much. [...] And we will not regret.

You do not have to get involved, [...] but you cannot contain us. We are the stronger ones, [...] and we shall fight where we please, even if it does not please you[...]. We are the clashing lions[...], and the housecats would be in their right minds to run from such a thing.

[...]

Your God may bless America all he wishes, but hold no doubts in your minds that we can kill him should he not entertain us.

Goodnight.
The destruction spread to both American continents, and eventually made its way to Europe, wiping out several areas, including the south of England, where the Witch Hunt had based its head of operations.

It was there, in London, on December 21 2024, that some say the Rupture War ended, as the battle was ended by force thanks to the arrival of the individual known as Ruin, who made his first appearance neutralising all magic on the field.

Ruin's allies did not even total in the double digits, but he was considered enough of a threat for the hostilities between the worlds to cease and turn on him. Confronting their forces at every opportunity, Ruin and his eight Apostles continued to claim victory against the worlds for three months, until a final duel against the Witch Hunter known as "Gold" in the Roman Baths.

Nobody knows what happened on the site, but the encounter lasted for three hours and the only signs of battle were the pillars of light that erupted from the museum and the tremors, which were reported to be felt from as far as the south-east coast.

Ruin was imprisoned, having survived, and lobotomised, being placed in Trigon when it was completed.

Over-Nine incident
2026 Trigon riot

Trigon
29 October - 1 November 2026

The Over-Nine incident and the 2026 Trigon riot are a pair of heavily intertwined events that began and ended at the same time, but are still regarded as separate incidents.

The Over-Nine incident is the official term used to refer to the period in which the conflict between the seven Level 9 mages inhabiting Trigon was taken to civilian areas. This, in turn, triggered an evacuation order from a handful of branches of the Witch Hunt, contradicting the official orders from the Trigonian council, which could not handle monitoring civilian evacuation of an area as large as Trigon and manage with the terrorist attacks of ODIN, who had taken advantage of the chaos to strike. The result was the Trigon riot, an anomaly among its kind, as it was not a case of civilians rebelling against government, but rather security forces turning on each other.

While they are obviously difficult to discern, the currently agreed list of factions acting are as follows:
  • Witch Hunt Branch "Abbadon" and Level 9 #3
  • Level 9s #2 and #4
  • Masked Ball (alliance of Apexite members from Trigonian council)
  • Main Trigonian council and loyalist Witch Hunt
  • Level 9 #1
  • ODIN (mundane rights terrorist group)
  • Unnamed renegade faction of Trigonian council
  • Level 9 #7
  • Civilian rioters, led by Level 9 #5
  • Sylra Shotocean
  • Level 9 #6
  • Armed Forces of the United States
  • Renegade Witch Hunt
Each of these thirteen factions are believed to have acted independently and against each other.

The President of the United States, with the nation initially uninvolved in the conflict, reported after the end of the conflict that "the reason the Armed Forces were mobilized [...] was to aid Trigon in ending the hostilities and bring order to the chaos". However, many officials reported afterwards that the reason the US deployed their military was so that they could attempt to occupy Trigon in the conflict to help restore their broken nation.

Similarly, the civilian rioters reported in questioning that they allied with #5 to attempt to restore order, as #5 had claimed that "they would be safe" with them. #7 was also initially believed to have a group of civilians to aid them, but they were later discovered to be under the effects of their Meridian Rule at the time, and did not remember any of the event.

The conflicts were ended by force when the renegade Witch Hunter branch Abbadon broke Ruin out of his prison, sparking a large-scale battle between him and Level 9 #1. This battle, along with the rest of the conflicts, resulting in ODIN seemingly disbanded, an ambiguous shift in the Trigonian council, approximately $1.2 billions of dollars of damage, as well as approximately 60,000 injuries and 1,250 deaths, including four of the Level 9s and Ruin himself.

In addition, the hidden districts at the centre of Trigon were all but completely destroyed due to a curious explosion at the conclusion of Ruin and #1's duel. The radiation from it has unique properties, including a large reduction in C14, as proved by the process of radiocarbon dating erroneously showing some of the rubble to be over 30,000 years old.

Angel War
???
??? - 2029

The Angel War is the usual term used to describe the recent conflict against an unknown number of Celestials.

The details around it are still vague, the most officially revealed about it is that it mostly took place mostly on the Sephyrian southern icecaps, with small parts in Trigon, and ended at some point in 2029.

The most specific thing known about it is that the spacetime distortion YGGDRASIL opened in the main battleground at some point. Where this fits into the chain of events is not known.

The only known results of the Angel War are that the Celestials are now allowed to roam and live in Trigon, but nowhere else, and the formation of a group known as the Spectre Priestesses, who are formed from seven virgin young women to guard seven objects. They are currently scattered around Trigon with no definitive base, but apparently intend to move to the former site of YGGDRASIL.

Human
Gaia, Sephyria, Apex

Humans are the single most common of the races, and are the only race that can be mundane. This is speculated by biologists to be because humans are the most simple sapient being that can survive without magic, although arcane humans still require a soul to live.

Humans from Gaia are the most numerous, but oddly, also entirely mundane.

Sephyrian humans are biologically more advanced than those of the other two worlds, tending to have more stamina and intelligence by a small margin. They look largely similar to Gaia's humans if they're mundane, but otherwise can have any combination of hair and eye colours. Due to inhabiting a colder world with less solar radiation, they tend to have fair to pale skin. Arcanes tend to have lighter skin than mundanes due to AMC fields blocking out the more harmful levels of UV.

Apexite humans are exclusively arcane, and always tend to have olive skin due to the UV radiation of Apex's sun, but their skin does not tend to be darker than that due to the combination of AMC fields and dense forest. Interesting, Apexite humans seem to be more skilled with fire-based Sorcery than other Apexite races.

They have been known to use any colour magic with the exceptions of white, black, and metallic colours. Their Levels according to the Bauer-West system can be vastly spread out, but they trend around 4-6, although they are one of the only races to reach Level 9.

High Elf
Sephyria

High Elves are exactly what the name implies: a race of tall elves who sport ears so pointy that they can sometimes be in line with their shoulders. Unlike most other races, female High Elves will often keep their hair short while males tend to grow theirs, which is, most of the time, a shade of blond. They are superior, it seems, in most respects as compared to the other Sephyrian races.

They have a slightly edgy relationship with the other races of Sephyria after numerous wars, but have grudgingly fit in with them. However, many describe their attitude, especially in politics, as lofty and arrogant.

High Elves are always arcane, and always have gold- or bronze-coloured magic. They are born with fire, earth, water, and air magic, but need to train to split them up (with the combination being named "Eden" magic), as opposed to combining them. In addition, they cannot utilise chaos magic, which can severely injure them, more so than the other elements. This led to the element being nicknamed "Elfsbane" for a time during the Dark Age. They tend to be around Level 6 or 7.

Wood Elf
Apex

Wood Elves, sometimes just called Mid-Elves or even just Elves, appear to be a cross between High Elves and Apexite humans. They are highly agile and dexterous, as they live mostly in trees, so they have to jump from branch to branch to get around. As much as they like trees, however, they are, in fact, capable of walking, and will do so. They just jump between trees because it's faster, so it helps with hunting, as Apexites take the term "free-range" to its logical extreme when farming.

Wood Elves, whether due to more exposure to UV radiation or as camouflage, tend to have darker skin and hair and than any other arcane race. Similarly, they seem more likely to have their magic colour as a shade of green than anything else.

They seem to have an affinity for earth Sorcery, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, tend to be around Level 4.

Dökkálfr
Sephyria

Dökkálfar (singular Dökkálfr) are a race created by Ruin to use as his soldiers many years ago, the first created as adults who were fully prepared to fight a war. After his initial defeat, they slowly made peace with the other races, and fought against Ruin after his return in 2024. Dökkálfar are split into two categories, and referring to them as the same, even using the umbrella term for the two, is seen as extremely impolite.

Dark Elves, or drow, look like indigo-skinned versions of their High Elf cousins, with a tendency to have white or silver hair (exceptions exist, obviously).

Demons, alternatively spelled as daemons, are far more varied. Tending to look similar arcane humans (though with differences depending on the type of demon), demons are defined by having very specific ways of regenerating Willpower. A naga, for example, will suck blood from their victim, and use the presence of that blood to draw out part of their victim's soul, absorbing it from others rather than regaining it themselves. There are available supplements for these methods, but some demons, such as incubi/succubi, prefer to use their natural methods of restoring energy.

All humanoid creatures from Gaian mythology can be recognised as a type of demon, with the exception of werewolves, vampires, and (obviously, given the presence of mages) witches, as they are all species of their own.

Dökkálfar tend to use shades of blue and purple for their magic, and show a particular aptness with short-range and magic, as well as spells that create constructs. They have been known to be anywhere from Level 4 to Level 8.

Chaotic
Sephyria, Apex

Chaotics, insultingly referred to as hellspawn, are a species of shapeshifters. While they ordinarily appear very similar to arcane Sephyrian humans, they will shapeshift into a "demonic form" if threatened, which varies wildly in appearance among them, but is almost always a more battle-capable form.

They were theorised for a time to be "made of magic", and legend states that they are the children of the demon-goddess of Chaos, Tokatas. These beliefs stemmed from two facts: firstly, they require to use their own soul to cast magic, and cannot regenerate it on their own, meaning that they need to consume the souls of other living beings to stay alive. Secondly, they can only cast chaos magic, although they can add other elements to it. There are, however, available supplements to prevent Chaotics from needing to consume others, and such activities are illegal.

Chaotics also have the unique ability to split their soul and maintain its functionality in the process, creating (often very weak) copies of themselves to spread out and consume more souls, named Afterimagers. In addition, they can form "contracts" with another being.

The first generation left for Apex four thousand years ago during the Great Exodus, however, they were recently brought back by the mage Ouránia many years ago to battle Ruin and his forces.

A Chaotic's Level will vary vastly depending on the amount of souls they have consumed. However, those above Level 7 are referred to by other Chaotics as "Chaos Lords", and frequently have a title that makes little sense to anybody who isn't a Chaotic (e.g. The Lovable Drum, The Colon of Apologies), but holds apparently extremely deep meaning to other Chaotics.

Feyrie
Apex

Fey have the most bizarre appearance of any race (except, arguably, Chaotics). This is because they are directly derived from Chaotics, but merged with their demonic forms over time, as well as gained their own metabolism, and being able to utilise sexual reproduction. This, according to some documents, is because Fey are a kind of half-blood species, being half Chaotic, half human. How this first occurred is yet to be understood.

In terms of appearance, almost everything about Fey is completely randomised, save for (usually) the amount of limbs they have, due to two different sets of genes that the body tries to fulfil at once. Even the materials constituting their body are sometimes non-organic, and Fey are one of the rarer Apexite races simply due to the fact that there are so few combinations that are actually functional, and only a minuscule amount could even maintain their bodies without an AMC field.

Due to their unclassifiable nature, creatures like werewolves and vampires are considered Fey by the other races, despite the long history of prejudice against them coming primarily from Fey.

Interestingly, Fey tend to have an affinity of air-based Sorcery, and are notable for their great skill at enchanting. In terms of magical ability, they trend around Level 3-4.

Sprite
Apex

Sprites, also called nymphs, usually look like humans, but are actually closer related to Fey. They tend to be pale, but they have naturally tinted fingernails and bones, the latter being most noticeable on their teeth.

They have naturally very dry skin, so they have become amphibious over the generations, and can hold their breath for hours at a time (although their AMC field does not require them to), as well as having poisonous blood. In Trigon, their difficulties have been acknowledged, and there are skin hydration agents in most cosmetic stores.

Sprites are often a model for the demonstration of natural selection in arcane races, as they are thought to be Fey that evolved to be able to survive underwater, explaining their lack of variation compared to Fey.

They tend to be most skilled at water-based Sorcery, which, given their amphibious nature, is more understandable than other instances of these trends. They also are usually around Level 2-3.

Half-blood
Sephyria, Apex, Trigon

Half-blood is the politically correct term for a crossbreed between the races. Chaotics, being unable to reproduce sexually, cannot have a half-blood to their name, but everybody else is fair game. They tend to have qualities from both races, but are sometimes infertile.

The most curious combination is called a Nephalem. These half-bloods are always half-High Elf, and half-human. They tend to be superior to both their parent races, due to the strengths of one cancelling the weaknesses of the other and all recorded Nephalem are either extraordinarily powerful in terms of magical ability; hindered in some way, physically or mentally; or outright psychotic and violent.

Celestial
???

Celestials, sometimes called angels, are a race that was introduced to the others as a hostile force in the Angel War, hence its name.

Like the war itself, the details surrounding the race are an extraordinarily well-kept secret. Those remaining after the war are currently confined to Trigon, where they are being studied intensely, and a close eye is being kept on them.

Celestials have "wings", which are unique patterns of light that form out of their backs when they exert themselves magically, which allows them to surpass their limits in a process referred to as "Awakening". Celestials are divided into classes depending on how many wings they have.
  • Class I: No wings, no output increase
  • Class II: Two wings, x3 output increase
  • Class III: Three wings, x6 output increase
  • Class IV: Four wings, x12 output increase
  • Class V: Five wings, x24 output increase
  • Class VI: Six wings, x48 output increase
Anything beyond Class VI can no longer be found in the observable universe.
  • Class VII: Seven wings, x96 output increase
  • Class VIII: Eight wings, x192 output increase
Celestials are unique in their magic in that they are the only race to naturally be able to perform simple Trickery. In addition, they can use both Thaumaturgy and Sorcery, but can only ever utilise a single element, never being able to use chaos.

Name: Astra Aerux. Usually known by the pen-name Worldwriter (see history)
Age: Astra has been alive now for nigh 300 years. She's lost cound of exactly how long it's been. She tends to round to the nearest 10.
Race: Celestial; class IV
Appearance:
90844846eed8190e3445b8fcdfc635d6.jpg

This is her "real" form, although she has been known to occasionally use her slight natural control over Trickery to disguise as other people - mainly used to disguise as an elderly British man with needlessly victorian outfits.

Birthplace: Astra has genuinely forgotten where exactly she was born, since even before coming to Trigon, she was travelling a lot.
History:
Astra was one of the many celestials to come to Trigon during the Angel War. She came much towards the end of the fighting, and not as a soldier. She came simply as a tourist. Of course, the government of Trigon didn't believe that, and she was imprisoned along with the rest of the captured celestials. She was eventually able to bargain herself a certain degree of freedom by offering to make public her research into magic, and her books (published without any author name, to hide her identity) are now the staple guide of all self-taught and most school-taught Thaumaturgists, and a considerable quantity of Trickery magicians use adapted versions of spells she designed too. Due to the lack of author name but obvious connections between the books, most Trigon citizens have dubbed her the "Worldwriter".
At the moment, Astra is working on the ENNEA project as a supervisor, with the role of using her vast understanding of magic to improve the power of the level 9s involved.
Magic Type: Thaumaturgy - Air
Level: 8

General Personality:
Astra is a rather distant person; as one would be if all their friends were dying off left right and center and you still look like a young adult. This is not aided by her relative exclusion from society, since few people ever wanted to get involved with the obligatory child prodigy in the school. She interacts only in a very basic fashion, and won't extend a conversation once she has gained the information she wants to know. She will respond to a smalltalk conversation out of politeness, but will go to no extent to maintain it, and will not initiate one. She does not like to get herself involved in combat, and will teleport away from it if it occurs, although she can get enraged if they continue the assault for too long, and will then obliterate her attacker. She will not attempt to show mercy.
Inner Personality:
Astra's inner personality is... well, Astra doesn't have an inner personality. She is simply who she is. The only secrets as to her personality are simply her hobbies. And these are only secrets because no one ever asked her about them.

Spells:

Meridian Rule: Quantum Drive
Astra's Meridian Rule is more an enhancement than an outright spell. Alone, it is powerless, but as long as she is emitting her soul field, every spell she casts can utilise the Quantum Drive. Essentially, Astra is the only person in Trigon capable of visualising aspects of quantum physics. For example, a human can believe the fourth dimension to exist, and can do calculations that assumes it does, but they can't actually generate a 4D picture in their mind, because their mind is only three-dimensional. Astra's mind is 11-dimensional thanks to her Quantum Drive, allowing her to easily comprehend ridiculous things such as a circle with less than a 360 degree angle around the center point. Through exploitation of this quantum realm, her basic Thaumaturgy seems more like the space manipulation of Trickery. Or more specifically, it seems like the space manipulation plus 8,000 celcius plasma balls.

Quantum Drive does not alter the cost of using a spell, however, Astra's total WP cap is permanently decreased by 5%.

Heaven Blaze:

Heaven Blaze is a relatively weak attack (in comparison with her usual spells), but it has considerable versatility. On use, Astra designates three variables - three sets of 4-dimensional coordinates. One for each target. These targets can be the same target, in which case the same target will take the attack 3 times. Though only 3-dimensional coordinates are theoretically necessary to use the targeting system, Astra likes to use the 4th dimensional point as a kind of "anchor" node to allow her to more easily aim. Any coordinates will do, but the targets have to be within 25 meters of herself.
The spell essentially materialises a tiny star around the target.
Power: 100
Difficulty: 20
Volatility: 20

Godsend:
Probably Astra's signature spell, if she were to have one. It would be her overly dramatic finisher in a 2D fighting game. Godsend is basically a ridiculously powerful version of Heaven Blaze. Upon use, Astra creates powerful air currents, and through extreme pressure, a tiny white dwarf star forms above the palm of her hand. This can be held if needed, but the longer one waits, the more likely it is to explode in your face. Upon being shot, it acts like a laser and disintigrates everything for 50 meters in one direction.
Power: 1400
Difficulty: 10
Volatility: 20

Parallel Movement:
More of a utility spell, though it is theoretically possible to use it as an attack. Astra selects an object and moves it through the 11th dimension, in relation to herself. To someone unable to visualise the 11th dimension, it would appear as if the object had simply teleported. It is not perfect teleportation, however. If, somehow, a wall were to exist in all 11 dimensions, the item could only be moved as far as the wall, not past it. Fortunately, most walls are only 3 dimensions large. She can teleport herself in this same manner, but is somewhat afraid of materialising in the middle of the floor due to a miscalculation.
Power: 10
Difficulty: 10
Volatility: 5

As an addition to Parallel Movement, Astra has installed a "Tunnel Network" throughout Trigon's districts, with the help of high power enchanters with at least a mathematical understanding of the 11th dimension, if not able to actually visualise it. This network is not actual tunnels, but more certain points that act as a kind of linking system, combined with enchanted "leylines" that span the distance of the journey. While normally, Parallel Movement would allow Astra to move an object up to 500 meters at a time, the tunnel network allows her to travel in a single direction, between two nodes, for up to 6000km, instantly. There is approximately a 3 minute wait time for a tunnel to actually open up, to save having to maintain them indefinitely, which would be a considerable drain on Trigon's resources.

This-Was-Purely-Experimental-But-Actually-Has-Quite-Nice-Results. AKA, unnamed spell #00015343: As the name suggests, Astra was simply screwing around with the values of her spells, and at one point realised you could use negative magnitude too. Essentially, she blasts the target with a weak bolt of air, but since the power value is negative, it restores health instead of damaging it. More importantly, the WP cost is negative, so for using it, she draws additional WP out of the atmosphere instead of forcing WP into it. (Restores 96 WP with these values)
Power: -40
Difficulty: 1
Volatility: 1

I'll probably add some more, but being the Worldwriter, she has practically endless potential spells at her disposal anyway.

As you can probably tell, I have no idea what I was doing with the numbers so just made up some values that kept the cost under 100.

Stats:
