Peas in a pod

Elise wanted to reassure the girl that they wouldn't get caught, cause she was good at tricking peoples perception of reality, but the glare she got shut her up completely. "Okay, just take a nap and I'll make sure we aren't seen until we get to... Where ever this is going." She hadn't payed much attention to the bus number or name, but hopefully it would go far far away. At the very least she knew it would go out of town, the town wasn't big enough to have in town buses only. They could count on getting at least two towns away before needing to change vehicle.

Hoping that would be the end of it Xan closed hir eyes and entered a state of half-sleep. Listening to the chatter on the bus ze picked up pieces of conversations and listened carefully for any signs that they had been spotted, that the bus would be stopped or any other ill news.

Through some force of luck the bus wouldn't be stopped before leaving town, but as it approached the next town the teen could vaguely pick up a mention on the bus driver's radio that it would be stopped for investigation. 'Damn.' Cursing internally she opened her eyes and sat up, thinking of a way to bypass that.

Elise wasn't worried in the slightest when she heard the radio speaking of an investigation, though she did notice how Alex seemed to be a bit more tensed up. "What's wrong? You're not worried about the investigation thing, right? We're perfectly safe. They won't even know we're here. We're invisible, remember? If they notice us I can just confuse them and we'll run before they realizes it's an illusion. Easy peasy. I've done it before. Normal humans are easy to confuse." Mutants were the ones she feared and the chances for those doing the investigation being mutants, especially mutants that could get around her powers, was extremely slim. So slim not even she could bother being paranoid about it.

"Says the one used to playing mind tricks on others." Clicking hir tongue in annoyance Xan grumbled softly. "I'm not exactly superpowered, I've gotten through things by human skills, not mutant powers." For a tiny flicker of a moment there was a small derision in the teen's tone when touching the subject of powers, as if the powers themselves were detestable.

Clearly not assured Xan was ready to flee at a moment's notice and spoke sternly to hir mostly unwanted companion. "Now shut the fuck up. Talking won't help." And relying on powers wouldn't either, what guarantee was there that they would be even slightly helpful when one needed it the most?

Elise looked disappointed at Alex. She wanted the girl to rely on her a bit. After all, they were in this together for now. She sat silently, keeping the illusion up while the bus started to slow down and eventually stopped. Now was the moment of truth. Would there be a problem or would they be completely safe?

Prepared to flee at a moment's notice Xan stared intently at the doors, keeping hir body tensed and attention at all the doors. The tension flickered into confusion as a greying, gruff man got in followed by several other cops. Though the blonde-turned-brunette didn't even pause to glance as the officers continued down the isle in search for suspicious individuals. All hir attention was on the man who searched with his brethren.

"No... Way..." The words came out in a breathed whisper as recognition hit, remembering a time she ran as fast as she could. The man in front of hir had... Aged. Sharp features har gotten signs of aging, dark hair had gained faintly greying streaks but the most stark detail, the thing that had encouraged hir to flee with all hir power, was the unwavering determination in the man's gaze.

Elise focused a lot on her powers, just to make sure the illusion didn't disappear. Usually she was rather confident in her powers as she used them every day, but Alex's pessimism might have rubbed off on her. Eventually though she noticed that something seemed to be wrong with the girl.

"What's wrong?" She asked. "We're still hidden. They can't see us." She tried to reassure her, whispering even though the loudness of her voice shouldn't matter while she used her power on everyone.
