It was a beautiful summer night, the moon shining bright enough to illuminate all but the darkest places of the world, the temperature mild, so much so that no one was cold nor overheated.
the field before the castle was lush and respendant, even in the moonlight, the castle at its end looking like a welcoming and beautiful place to visit, and all sorts of nocturnal animals frollicked in the pleasant forest that edged the other side of the field.
children slept soundly in their cots, and husbands and wives spent the evening seither in the company of other couples or simply with each other.
in short, everything was wonderful.
but all that changed with the coming of the invaders, at first the forests grew less pleasant and the nights grew darker, but few people thought anything of it.
then children started dissapearing, then the search parties started to dissapear.
then all word from once proud castles stopped, bar rumors of nightmarish creatures storming the walls and slaughtering all within.
Hideout of Kang the Pathetic, Midnight, the third week after the initial attacks.
he had planned it all. carefully, meticulously, he had laid out plans with a scope and attention to detail that borderlined on insane pedantry.
and yet the 'hero' that damned egotistical bully and show off threatened to ruin everything with his tardiness.
he hadnt even followed the first set of clues by Kang's reckoning, in fact, the villain hadn't heard a peep from his spies as to the bastard knight's whereabouts.
Kang looked up sharply as he heard a knocking on the door to his hideout.
with a press of a button, the outer door opened and one of Kang's paid informants stumbled into the chamber, bleeding from several rather deep cuts, so much so that much of the man's tunic waas soaked with blood.
"sir, help me, they're coming, they know your here!" the man gasped, stumbling to the floor, leaning against the door that stood between himself and the interior of Kang's hideout.
outside the hideout.
Marching in full formation, tattered and frayed banners fluttering against an ethereal breeze moved at least ten thousand skeletal figures, clad in broken, rusted armor and weilding age old spears and broken sheilds.
in the middle of this formation rode a tall, pale man, his hair as jet balck and his eyes compeltely blank and his teeth looked more less human and more like that of a shark.
At that moment, in Abu Dabir
"you have seen the power we weild, and all we ask to share that power with you is obedience and loyalty, who among you will accept my offer" the speaker's voice was dark and sinister, and his appearence matched that, old and wizened, the man wore black robes, covered with dust and his white beard looked as though it hadn't been combed in years, yet he had stroleld into the Sultan's court, single handedly slaughtering not only the kings guards, but his Vizier as well, all with terrible black magics that left the guards nothing more than skeletons, though all had risen and moved to stand behind the speaker, now guarding the wizard from his audience, who still gaped in shocked silence, although several women sobbed quietly, their lovers slain.
The old man's eyes locked with those of an elf, his skin of a rather bluish-purple hue
"what of you, Evanum, Wandering Bard, will you join the damned and take control of unimaginable power in life, or will you join the damned in death as a slave bent to my will" the old man asked, his voice dry and hoarse, like death itself.
