The pale rosy color that had spread across Hadlee's cheeks perplexed him. Blushing was a term Shade was not entirely accustomed to as he had yet to experience the rush of oxygenated blood fill his upper veins. He vaguely wondered what could have caused it before pushing all thoughts aside in favor of the book now being held out to him. The title, author name, and publishing date had all been memorized but he didn't exactly feel comfortable in rejecting her offer.
Reaching forward, Shade made to accept the book only to find his fingers pass right through the front cover and out the back. He of course immediately pulled back and whispered an apology via brainwaves. Of all the facts and library full of information he could retain, the solid and non-solid ratio between his two forms seem to forever elude him. Floating back a bit, Shade made some room as he proceeded to switch back to his partially adapted solid self and considerably shrunk in size to physically look the age of five. At the small height of forty three inches he had to fly a little bit upwards to finally take the book for himself.
It felt worn and smooth to the touch; a sign that it was a constantly read and very loved novel. Opening it to the first page he began to read it thoughtfully before suddenly flipping to the next page then half a second later he was off to the next one. This continued to escalate until he was just letting the pages fan out, having at least a quarter of a second to examine them before reaching the end.
The book shut with a gentle snap as he let the last few pages fall.
"The Catcher in the Rye is a very interesting novel, thank you for letting me read it" Shade quietly stated. His voice was an odd combination of scratchy and soft due to under use.
He held the book back up to Hadlee, floating a little again to at least reach her hip bone.
