traveler-on-mars.jpg

Upon resurrection, we are told the Traveler is benevolent. It protects us. It died for us. It gave us the Golden Age. It created Ghosts so we Guardians maybe found and defend the last of the Light.

But....it is all a lie.

WORLD INFORMATION

(Not taken from the Grimoire) On the first human expedition to Mars, we discovered the Traveler. The Traveler is a spherical being, moon-like in size, a celestial being. For one reason or another, the Traveler became a great aid to humanity. It gifted them its Light, terra-forming planets so we could expand across the solar system. Mercury became a garden world. Venus's endless storms ceased and the air became breathable. With Light, humanity's technology was uplifted, their lifespan tripled, and for centuries after humans basked in the Golden Age. Then the Darkness came. A ancient enemy of the Traveler, the Darkness entered the solar system like a galactic hurricane, destroying everything in its path and paving way for creatures like the Hive, Fallen, and Cabal to invade. This is known as the Collapse. The Traveler fought off the Darkness, pushing it out of the solar system, but injuring itself in the process. With its Light, the Traveler settled over the last City on Earth, protecting it to this day, and created Ghosts. These Ghosts were sent to seek out Guardians- last hope for survival as enemies still - and then the Traveler went dormant. But the Darkness is coming back. This is where Destiny begins.
Guardians- "Legends are carved across history by the brave." Guardians are warriors forged in the Traveler's Light, a final hope in a universe falling into Darkness. Chosen from the dead by the Traveler's Ghosts, Guardians are those rare few able to wield the Light as a weapon. For centuries they have defended the City. But that defense cannot hold forever. Now, with the Darkness rising again, the time has come to retake our lost worlds. The Guardians who lead the way will save humanity - and become legend.

Ghosts- "In its dying breath, the Traveler created the Ghosts...To seek out those who can wield its Light as a weapon. Guardians, to protect us, and do what the Traveler itself no longer can." - The Speaker Built from machinery and the Traveler's Light, Ghosts guide their Guardian companions in the quest to reclaim our solar system. Every Ghost seeks out its Guardian among the ancient dead. The Ghost serves as scout, librarian, and mechanic, waking ancient machinery and cracking alien codes. In the right situations, a Ghost can even save a Guardian from death. But Ghosts are not immortal. As far as Guardians know, every loss is irreplaceable.
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Ghosts

Humans- "This was our world, our solar system. We were here first. And no matter what the darkness brings, we will be here at the dawn." Humans are survivors, tough and resilient, descended from those who built a Golden Age only to see it ripped away. Now, after an age of retreat and desperate struggle, they fight to take back their solar system and claim a new future. There are those who believe The Traveler chose Earth for a reason. Now it is humanity's obligation to prove itself worthy of the Traveler's faith.
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Human 5

Exo- "Ask yourself: what threatened your Golden Age ancestors so much that they constructed the Exos to defend themselves?" Built for a long-forgotten struggle, Exos are self-aware war machines so advanced that nothing short of a Ghost can understand their inner functions. They remain ciphers, even to themselves: their origins and purpose lost to time. Whoever built the Exos fashioned them in humanity's image, gifting them with diversity of mind and body. Many of The City's Exo citizens live and work alongside their organic brethren. But others fight again, re-forged in the Light of the Traveler to serve as Guardians.
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Exo
Ghost Fragment: Exo 2
Ghost Fragment: Exo 3

Awoken- "The others sing this song of Light and Dark. We, together, have transcended such unimaginative limitations." It is said that the Awoken were born in the Collapse, descended from those who tried to flee its wrath. Something happened to them out on the edge of the deep black, and they were forever changed. Today many Awoken live in the distant Reef, aloof and mysterious. But others returned to Earth, where their descendants now fight for The City. Earthborn Awoken who venture out to the Reef, hoping to learn its secrets, find no special welcome from the reclusive Queen.
Lore:Ghost Fragment: Awoken 2
Ghost Fragment: Awoken 3
Fallen- "We have butchers at our gates - four-armed and eager for slaughter." The Fallen are ruthless scavengers. Brutal and uncaring, they arrived on their massive Ketches in the wake of the Collapse to loot and pillage our devastated worlds. There are hints of ancient nobility to the Fallen - the scars of lost grandeur. The Kells of their scattered Houses still claim to be royalty. But they leave only grief and wreckage in their wake. Races: Dregs, Shanks, Vandals, Captains, Servitors, Kells
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Fallen

Hive- "There are nightmares rising from the shadows, and they hunger for our dying hope." The Hive are an ancient, festering evil. Their antipathy to the Light transcends hatred. To the Hive, the eternal struggle between Light and Dark is not only a war, it is a crusade - all Light must be devoured so Darkness can reclaim the universe. Races: Thrall, Acolytes, Knights, Ogres, Wizards
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Hive 2

Vex- "Living metal. Incomprehensible intelligence." The Vex are architects of ancient and complex structures thought to be buried within every celestial body. Linked by a network unlike any on Earth, they operate in unison, directed by a single unfathomable purpose. Races: Goblins, Hobgoblins, Harpies, Minotaurs, Hydras
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Vex

Cabal- "I think you could follow a trail of shattered worlds all the way to their home." Tactically efficient, disciplined, and unrelenting, the Cabal are the greatest known military force in the system. Their origins and ultimate objectives are a mystery, but it seems clear they have conquered more worlds than humanity has ever known. Cabal soldiers wear pressurized armor that replicates the environment of their high-gravity home world. Their field tactics depend on ranks of Legionaries supported by air power, elite infantry, and ultra-heavy armor. Races: Legionaries, Centurions, Colossuses, Psions, Phalanxes
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Cabal 2
Ghost Fragment: Cabal 3
Ghost Fragment: Cabal 4
Classes:
Titan- "Strive for honor. Stand for hope." Titans are warriors - heroic defenders of the Light, channeling the gifts of The Traveler to wage war on The Darkness. Steadfast and sure, Titans face any challenge head-on, blunt force instruments of the Traveler's will.
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Titan

Warlock- "We have found new ways to weaponize curiosity. Pathways into the darkness." Warrior-scholars of the Light, Warlocks devote themselves to understanding the Traveler and its power. A Warlock's mind is an arsenal of deadly secrets, balanced between godhood and madness. On the battlefield, those secrets can shatter reality itself.
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Warlock
Ghost Fragment: Warlock 2
Hunter- "Our old worlds have grown feral - rabid beasts with teeth of rust and ruin. But such beasts are meant to be tamed. Or broken." Hunters stalk the wilderness beyond the City, harnessing the Light to reclaim the secrets of our lost worlds. They are daring scouts and stealthy killers, expert with knives and precision weapons. Hunters blaze their own trails and write their own laws.
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Hunter

Sub-Classes:
Guardian Abilities- "There is a Light in you from which no Darkness can hide." Only Guardians have the gift of the Traveler's Light - the ability to channel its energies to project vast power into the world. Even without a firearm, a Guardian is a radiant engine of destruction. While these abilities rise from within, Guardians master their power in different ways. Titans understand the Light as a force to hone through practice and strict discipline. Hunters roam and explore in order to learn, using dangerous methods to survive the wilds. And Warlocks study the Light and its inner mechanisms, confronting unfathomable mysteries in the search for transcendent might.
Lore: Ghost Fragment: Abilities

Light can be manifested in three different energies: Arc (lightning), Solar (fire), and Void (a form of pure energy, purple in color). Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters can use each type of Light as a subclass, are manifested in different ways. Subclasses are listed below:

Titan Subclasses- Strikers are Titans using Arc Light. They channel lightning through their fists and can create devastating shockwaves or electrical pulses through the ground. They are the tanks in battle, eager to be first to charge into battle.
Sunbreakers wield the infamous Hammer of Sol, a weapon made of pure Solar Light that can be thrown at enemies.Titans who train in this class are consumed by flames when wielding the Hammer, and can channel fire through their melee attacks. Sunbreakers are known for their unshakable honor- even those who still wander the wilds as mercenaries.
Defenders take to the Void to erect impregnable barriers. They protect allies, repel all incoming attacks, and hinder any enemies ignorant enough to enter their ward. They are the shields on the battlefield, rallying allies and providing an escape when retreat is the only option.

Warlock Subclasses- Stormcallers are fearsome conduits of lightning, channeling it through their bodies so they glide across the battlefield and release chains of lightning through their palms. They easily rip through enemy ranks and even other Guardians are wary when facing them in the Crucible.
Sunsingers are phoenixes personified, as fire cloaks them in the visage of phoenix wings. Using Solar Light, they replenish their attacks swiftly and can even heal themselves. If they fall, they resurrect themselves at a faster rate and without the need of their Ghosts.
Voidwalkers, masters of the arcane, use the Void light to create Nova bombs-- massive bolts of energy that hurdle through the air and disintegrate any enemies caught in its blast radius.

Hunter Sublasses- Bladedancers channel Arc Light through body and blade. Their speed and agility increase, movements untraceable to the eye, and can even gain invisibility for short periods. They can kill groups of enemies without receiving a scratch, and can be full of surprises.
Gunslingers own the Golden Gun, a legendary hand cannon infused with Solar Light. Limited in rounds, they are nevertheless brutal with one shot, instant kills, and their enemies turning to ash.
Nightstalkers are the equivalent of the Defender Titan-- with a few extra perks. They are the best at laying traps, using smoke bombs to cloak allies and disable enemies, and their Gravity Bow channels the Void into a concentrated vortex that ensnares any nearby enemies and siphons their energy.

So, as a recap, and to ensure we're all on the same page:

The story starts with (or close to) the Cabal Emperor arriving after receiving the distress call and moves against Earth
  • As all life is threatened by this new threat, it eventually comes to the Guardians and the House of Kings must work together for sheer survival
  • Our Guardians work directly with the Kings, and in doing so discover information that plant seeds of doubt about the Traveler and it's true objectives
    • I'm assuming then further investigation becomes (temporarily) a side plot until the Cabal threat is neutralized
    • Once the Cabal have been dealt with, we become focused on learning more about the Traveler and how humanity has been lied to
  • Our investigation ends up leading us to the Vault of Glass, when we hear it has been cracked
    • While there, we encounter the Vex and visions of the past that reveal the truth
    • As we are forced to renew fighting with the Hive and their remaining two gods, our Guardians are forced to make choices stemmed from discovering that the Traveler is a "planet-sized liar and traitor" (Traveler theory vid) in order to win against the Hive
  • After pushing back all the minions of the Darkness and preventing the Traveler's resurrection, our characters are (most likely) exiled but will have different endings depending on their character arcs
This is just the basic overview because I know we have character arcs to intertwine, along with Toland and Osiris. Which, I have to ask, how do we know Toland is alive? I went through the lore again and I'm probably missing something but nothing suggested he survived the attack against Crota when he joined Eris Morn's fireteam (post-exile). I know we said he had (or wanted to) become Ascendant Hive so I'm cool with making him alive in the RP but I would like to see what I missed, just to fill the gaps.

With plotting: we got a great outline so far, so my thinking is if we're good on the timeline we can start going more in-depth with the Cabal threat, enough so that when we start the RP, we know how to move forward and keep from losing pace but leave room for spontaneity? How much plotting do we actually want to do before starting an IC thread?

Name: Rigel-7

Age: Unknown

Gender: Male

Race: Exo

Appearance: Rigel-7 is a standard Exo built to be a Titan, he stands at six feet tall but makes up for his size in strength. Unlike most Guardians, Rigel-7 makes sure to keep his gear in top condition. His armor is only mildly weathered and his weapons look like they could be new. When damaged, Rigel-7 will often find replacement parts even though facial plating is often difficult to find. He is often in need of repair due to his combat style and traits.

Class and Subclass: Sunbreaker Titan

Skills:
  • Exceptional Combatant: Having seen an immense amount of battle, Rigel-7 has refined his skills to keep himself and his team alive while also completing the objective. Though there are often times when he cannot survive alone, he is still a machine created for war and it shows.
  • Relentless: Rigel-7 is capable of unrelenting assault when fighting. As his emotions take over and his loses himself in battle, Rigel-7 often finds himself unable to stop. This can lead to more damage being received than dealt. This is also a negative trait.
  • Quick Witted: As an Exo, Rigel-7 has subroutines to constantly survey his surroundings. Plotting an escape or alternate route is quite easy, Rigel-7 can even adapt to sudden changes with ease.
  • Weapons Expert: Since dedicating his life to fighting and living since the Collapse, Rigel-7 has learned a lot about weapons. He can handle new weapons with ease, maintain gear, and repair weapons as needed provided he has the materials required.
  • Heavy Frame: Exos are built to take damage, Titans even more so. Rigel-7 has been built to withstand as much as possible making him durable.
  • Mechanic: As a machine living though the Collapse and the following Dark Age, Rigel-7 had to learn to keep himself repaired. Over time, he learned basic repair skills.
Flaws:
  • Overly Curious: Rigel-7 often gets distracted, wanting to learn more about things he doesn't understand. At times, he can become distracted and lost in his quest for understanding.
  • Heavy: Metal is heavy, Titan armor is also heavy, robot Titans are very heavy. Though his mechanics and frame attempt to keep him as fast as possible, Rigel-7 is not as fast as others and he often falls behind his Hunter or Warlock teammates.
  • Relentless: Rigel-7 is capable of unrelenting assault when fighting. As his emotions take over and his loses himself in battle, Rigel-7 often finds himself unable to stop. This can lead to more damage being received than dealt. This is also a positive trait.
  • Preoccupied: Though he is dedicated to his fight against the darkness, Rigel-7's ultimate goal comes first. Understanding his creation and sentience is his main priority, and he will often become absorbed in this mission causing him to disregard his current situation to pursue his own goal.

Personality Traits: (Minimum of 3 positive traits, 2 negative)
  • + Diligent
  • + Intelligent

Brief History: Being an Exo, Rigel-7 was created before the Collapse with the purpose of defending humanity and assisting in rebuilding what was lost during any disasters. With no memories of life before the Collapse, Rigel-7 searches for answers to the questions created by his broken memories.

Upon awakening, his mind was filled with shock, fear, and confusion. A small robot hovering above him spoke words he didn't understand. The robot called itself a Ghost and rushed him to safety. Though he didn't remember the world before, he felt as if the current state was somehow wrong. In the fragments of his memories, he could piece together images of his past but nothing was coherent.

It wasn't long before he was forced to take up a weapon, but he found it surprisingly easy and in doing so, Rigel-7 found himself fighting for survival in the ruined land of Old Chicago. His years in the old world were spent searching for clues to his awakening, refining his combat skills, and learning his new abilities. The Ghost told him of The Traveler and its benevolence, it told him of the war with the Darkness, and of the state of the world. Rigel-7 would go on to fight through the invading forces until the City was founded.

After finding and old jumpship, Rigel-7 was able to get it flying, it wouldn't survive leaving Earth but it would get him around faster. When he found the City, Rigel-7 went on to spend his years helping defend those who couldn't defend themselves, he even fought in the battle of six fronts. Rigel-7 became a warrior for the Vanguard and fought to reclaim the solar system, but his search for answers never stopped. Rigel-7 was inactive during the raid on the Vault of Glass and the awakening of Crota, taking time to continue his research.

As Rigel-7 reintegrated with the Vanguard he found himself fascinated with Eris Morn and her stories. As she spoke of the coming of Oryx, Rigel-7 prepared for a war due to her being right about Crota. As the Taken War raged onward, he found himself working with a Guardian who'd achieved incredible things. Rigel-7 joined the Guardian in striking down Oryx both in the physical realm, and in the High War. Upon bidding farewell to the Guardian, he continued his research in silence, though he continued to with Eris Morn which resulted in the creation of the Touch of Malice.

Rigel-7 has fought for the Vanguard since then, using the weapons procured or built over that time. A rocket launcher built by Crux/Lomar, a shotgun found while exploring Oryx's throne world, and a scout rifle built with the help of Eris Morn would become his tools in fighting back the Darkness.

Other:
  • Though Rigel-7 now works for the Vanguard as a dedicated soldier, her continues his hunt for the truth behind the Exos.
  • I hope no one minds me giving him the weapons I did, if it requires a change I can oblige.
  • I'm going to go ahead and say that the Touch of Malice DOESN'T sap life OR shoot infinitely since that would be pretty OP, unless the GM disagrees.

Oran Caldruc
oran collage 2.jpg
46 (since revival) | Awoken | Male | Warlock Stormcaller | Chaotic Neutral

"I remember just enough of the Collapse to make the lack painful. I can't even recall my brother's face, but I miss him like he was another limb."

APPEARANCE
Oran stands a bit taller than the average human or Awoken, with black, unkempt hair and bright green eyes with the faint luminescence that mark him as Awoken. Not that one could tell from his mannerisms, as his intense energy tends to be the first thing others notice. He's bad at sitting still, bad at being quiet, and bad at paying attention to anything he finds uninteresting. He twiddles, twitches, taps, and shifts when made to sit down or be still. He's far from the serious and cryptic type one might expect an Awoken to be. Unprofessional he may be, he bears his fair share of scars and marks from the fights that didn't end in death, and bears them as well as any Guardian. He has also invested in several decorative tattoos on his back, shoulders, and face.

PERSONALITY
+ Cunning/Knowledgeable
+ Social
+ Passionate

= Talkative
= Curious
= Dark Sense of Humor

- Immature
- Reckless
- Easily Frustrated

HISTORY
Originally, Oran was among the humans that fled the system during the Collapse and became the first Awoken. He was also among the first Awoken to turn back and return to Earth, along with his brother, Aeson. The pair were killed in combat with Fallen in what had once been London while trying to protect human refugees, and their bones laid on that same battlefield for more than two centuries. Then came Oran's Ghost. Being brought back after so many years, to missing memories and a dead brother and a brand new purpose protecting the Traveler and the City, was insane to the Awoken, but Oran pushed on and fulfilled his purpose. He was a fine Guardian, at first, gladly dying again and again for the safe haven he now called home and the benevolent Traveler that was the source of his newfound power.

The Light was a fascinating thing to him, but at first he didn't seek knowledge of it for himself. He wanted to become the best Guardian he could be, wanted to push back the forces of the Darkness and gain humanity ground, so he pushed at the bounds of the abilities he'd been granted and sought knowledge of its workings. Years wear on even the best intentions, however, and decades of the endless fight and endless death took their toll on Oran's optimistic and puppy-like personality. His humor darkened, his optimism wore away, his interest in the greater good waned.

Even so, Ikora Rey granted him a position on the fireteam that would end the life of the Taken King. The Guardian that lead them was nothing short of awe-inspiring, and there was an Exo Titan on the team that was less inspiring, but Oran still found him impressive. The connections he'd made with that team couldn't keep him with them, however, not after the Taken had brought up so many questions. About the Hive, the Darkness, the Light. So, he set out to find his own answers.

He still fights for the Vanguard and the City, still obeys the Speaker and follows Ikora Rey, but his motives are far more driven by personal gains and his quest for knowledge than they were when he was newly resurrected. Not that one could tell from his outwardly energetic personality, darker though it may have become.

SKILLS:
Fast - Whether walking or talking or fighting, Oran tends to rush. His reaction speed is excellent and his shots tend to hit despite the lack of time he takes to aim them, though he often gets ahead of team members and finds himself in trouble.
Light Manipulation - Years of studying and seeking out knowledge on Light and the powers he manipulates have had their effects on his control over it; he's able to manifest his Super in uncommon ways, such as lightning bolts that can be used at range.
Crafty - Oran rarely goes into battle with a plan in mind...but he does know that a single lightning bolt can take out a whole group of enemies standing in water, and a single well-used grenade can be more effective than a dozen bullets.
Mid-Range Combat - Oran isn't patient enough to serve as a marksman but he isn't sturdy enough for close range combat. Thus, his comfort zone is between the two, where accurate shooting only requires speed and his Super can be put to effective use.

FLAWS:
Impulsive - Strategy and tactics are not things Oran excels at. When left to his own devices, he usually dives headfirst into confrontations and battle, usually without a pause to take stock of enemy positions or even notice what the foe is.
Terrible Self-Control - Oran doesn't have much in the way of self control, regardless of the situation. It's as hard for him to put a filter on his words as it is for him to stop tapping a foot or drumming his fingers on nearby surfaces.
Easily Distracted - One could present Oran with a crucial mission and he'd find some way to get sidetracked. He usually gets back on task, but one might have to put up with his never-ending quest for spinmetal or helium filaments first.
Daredevil - If he should not do the thing, but it might be fun, Oran most likely will and highly enjoy doing it. Even if it kills him. The dying and resurrecting don't disturb him so much as feed into this negative trait.

GHOST:
Turquoise_Shell2.png
Oran's ghost is quiet and polite, with a sharp-witted and sarcastic sense of humor. He's taken to referring to it as Aeson, after his brother.
GEAR:
Primary - Angel's Advocate [Scout Rifle]
Special - Vestian Dynasty [Sidearm]
Heavy - Sleeper Simulant [Fusion Rifle]
Armor - The Impossible Machines [Gauntlets]; Incandescent Mind [Bond]

Look at his page on the wiki. It says something to the extent that he watched us kill Oryx, and was enraged when we didn't take the Osmium Throne. It's canon.

Gonna put up a sheet on this post hopefully (maybe) later tonight.

Also, we also planned to go into conflict with the Hive again before moving on to the Vex, I thought. And as for Toland, there's nothing to suggest he DID die during their attempt on Crota's life.

I do still think that we should try to minimize the extent of the time anomalies of the Vault of Glass cracking.

And I think that maybe we could add a major conflict with Rasputin in there somewhere - after all, if it can kill HUNDREDS of Iron Lords, I think he would be a formidable threat. Especially for just a handful of Guardians.

Also, question: would anyone mind if Kaitlyn was in the Raid on Crota's throne world? Because given that the only person she ever loved was personally slaughtered by Crota, I think she would jump at the chance to take revenge. But this would be the only real main story event she'd be apart of, aside from occasionally handling missions on the Dreadnaught or in the Plaguelands that weren't in the campaign.

I'm not sure how much we can actually touch in terms of Rasputin. The events of the first emergence of SIVA were controlled directly by Rasputin. He summoned legions of Golden Age robots (forgot the name of them), which are bound to bring down a few Guardians, knew how to perma-kill Guardians, and had access to huge amounts of anti-personnel weaponry. He still does. On that note, what sort of conflict did you have in mind? Like, hacking Rasputin to determine whether or not he actually assaulted the Traveler?

I think it would be kind of cool if she were part of the Guardian's raid fireteam. Like, how many people get to know a savior?

[fieldbox= , purple]Janus (Armor).jpg
Name: Janus (originally Cadmus Nakkor)

Age: Unconfirmed (Older than the City, younger than Saladin Forge)

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Appearance: Janus is rarely seen outside of his armor, though not entirely out of personal choice. The events of the Great Disaster on the Moon may have left Janus alive, but scarred his body as much as his mind. Half of his face was destroyed by a Boomer shot, leaving him with one organic eye and no nose. Most of his torso is scarred by heavy artillery fire, and many of his vital internal organs were destroyed from being attacked with a Cleaver. As a result of his severe and various injuries, much of Janus's body is supported by bionics; his half-machine face gave him the name Janus, after the archaic Earth god of gateways, beginnings, and endings, who is often depicted with two faces. Janus's armor is equally scarred by battle, and is a model of armor from the ages of the old City.

Class & Subclass: Titan Defender

Skills:
  • Tank: Janus is very durable and highly successful when placed on the front lines. He prefers to act as the shield between the enemy and his comrades.
  • Swordsman: When entering single combat with a Minotaur or wading into hordes of Thralls, Janus wields his trusty Void-imbued sword with a great deal of skill.
  • CQC: Janus is not a skilled long-distance marksman, and instead finds himself most comfortable with shorter-range weapons like shotguns and auto-rifles.
Flaws:
  • Marksmanship: Janus is a poor marksman, lacking any particular proficiency with long-distance warfare.
  • Team Player: Janus lacks confidence when without a fireteam, and rarely goes into major combat zones without fellow gunmen to support.
Personality:
  • + Jovial
  • + Courageous
  • + Experienced
  • - Pessimistic
  • - Critical
  • - Insecure
Loadout:
Biography: Reborn in the waning years of resurrected Warlords, Cadmus Nakkor is one of the few remaining Guardians who recalls an age without the City or the Vanguard. His only companion a machine that knew not its own path in life, Cadmus set out to find his place in a world he didn't know. He did not find his place subjugating others as the Warlords did, nor did he pursue the philosophy of justice the Iron Lords espoused, but instead sought the glory of combat, and found his place as a mercenary. However, as he grew stronger, he realized his affinity for the Void and his skills with shields and defensive combat made him unsuitable as a lone wolf. Luckily for him, there were others in the world who felt the same way about themselves. Jeanine Anderson, Bladedancer; Sirius-32, Nightstalker; Nicholas Walton, Striker; and Ryder-4, Sunsinger. Each found faults within themselves, and sought others who could support them. All together they formed a mercenary company called the Brazen Shields. They fought on various sides in the grand war between the Iron Lords and the rest of the world, sometimes narrowly escaping Lord Saladin's fellows in the midst of a battle with a Warlord, and sometimes narrowly escaping with Lord Saladin himself when the battle turned in an enemy's favor. When the Lords fell to SIVA and Rasputin, the Brazen Shields held their ground, deserting only when it became clear that the determination of the Lords would lead to ruin. With no other power in the world left to serve, the Brazen Shields turned to the City. Briefly participating in the Faction Wars, they were ultimately reincorporated into the City's defenses by the Vanguard, and became one of the first fireteams. They adamantly refused to be redistributed to different fronts, flying directly in then Commander Forge's face. Cadmus himself often told tales of when his ex-captain, Nicholas Walton, confronted the Commander, and how it almost came to blows before Ryder-4 stepped in to calm Walton. Ultimately, the Shields were officially disbanded, but were allowed to operate exclusively with each other.

Over time, the Brazen Shields' reputation became renowned throughout the Last City. Cadmus himself was distinguished by his bravery, ultimately succeeding Walton as the unofficial leader of the Brazen Shields. Anywhere from establishing beachheads on the Moon to cracking into the Cosmodrome, the Brazen Shields could be found fighting in the name of the Light. As always, however, tragedy was bound to strike. The Vanguard, with poor judgement of the enemy's power, decided to launch a full-scale assault on the Moon in an effort to purge it of any Hive presence. As per usual, Cadmus offered to lead the charge. All went well at first: a transmat zone was established, and the Guardians stormed the Hive's frontal offenses. However, all of that changed when Crota woke up. Cleaver in hand, the Ascendant Hive broke the assault over his knee. During their retreat, the Brazen Shields were ambushed by a horde of Knights. Walton went first, decapitated as he dove into the mass of blades. Jeanine ran after, and was promptly run through with a blade. Sirius was picked off with Boomer fire, and Ryder had his skull crushed by a Knight's bare hands. Cadmus managed to escape, taking some of his friends' bodies with them, and was one of the blessed few who could. In the process, he was near-fatally wounded. Upon his return to Earth, he requested that what parts of his body were irreparably damaged be replaced with what remained of his friends, a morbid way to keep them close to him even after their deaths. When the Vanguard requested Cadmus return to active service, he chose a new name: Janus. One face to hold on to the past, one face to grip the future.

In the years since the Great Disaster, Janus has continued to distinguish himself in battle as an assault trooper, supporting other Guardians as they arrive in his wake. He was even granted a position in the reborn Iron Lords by Saladin Forge himself for his valor in the Plaguelands during the SIVA Crisis. However, he has not been quite the same since his team died. He makes few permanent associations, and rarely fraternizes with even his fellow ancient Guardians. Janus has managed to mask his sorrow with a face of cheerful pessimism and gregarious camaraderie. As well, Janus has begun to lose faith in the Light's power, seeing it as the reason he couldn't save his friends. Time will only tell how much his belief in the cause can be tested before it shatters.[/fieldbox]

I think it would be kind of cool if a few of the Guardians had an interaction with THE Guardian. Kaitlyn was a part of Crota's End, my character was a part of King's Fall, your character could have been a part of the Vault of Glass or Wrath of the Machine, etc, etc. Maybe that's how some of the character's know each other too, through The Guardian. Just an idea, but I do want Rigel-7(name subject to change) to have been a part of King's Fall, if that's alright. Finally, the robots you're talking about were called Frames, they're basically the ones in the social spaces. It is speculated that Exos were born from the Frames.

Edit: One more question, what's the deal with exotic gear? Yes? No?
Second Edit: Regarding throne worlds. In Books of Sorrow XXII, when they speak of Auryx creating his throne world(High War), they also speak of the two sisters as well "SAVATHÛN thought this was a great idea. She made a court called the High Coven. XIVU ARATH said, the world is my court, wherever there is war." Would this mean that Xivu Arath's throne world is everywhere?

It's hard to tell with the Books of Sorrow. Like any religious material, they are subject to analysis and are bound to include metaphors galore in place of hard facts when discussing creation and the matters of the divine. However, due to the fact that this is a fictional universe where magic DOES exist and cannot be disproved by logic or reason, it's way harder to tell when the writer of a religious text is being literal or metaphorical. On the other hand, the Hive gods are prone to eloquent philosophical discourse, which is ironic considering that the very root principle of their philosophy is directed carnage. Given this, I'd say that when Xivu Arath says that her court is everywhere she (he? Xivu Arath is the progenitor of Knights, who I thought were the males in Hive society. I was always rather confused with this) means that she doesn't need a fancy name or detail for her court, but merely a battlefield and an army to fight with. The Books of Sorrow make it clear that all of the Hive gods have an ascendant realm that they pass through. As well, the High War was only made physical and easily accessible when Oryx fashioned his Oversoul into his Dreadnaught, which essentially manifested his realm into the physical world. Since Xivu Arath never did this, I'd assume that upon death shklee just passes into it as she normally would. The Books make mention of the fact that all three of the Hive gods died innumerable times in the early days of the Hive, and all three came back from death each time after spending time in their Ascendant Realms. It can be inferred that Xivu Arath was no different.

I'd also like an answer to the Exotics question, since I would, in my own mind, (A) like to use the Khvostov-0X as my Auto-Rifle (nothing really special, no OP perks, but it adds significantly to the base of the vanilla Khvostov), and (B) the Dark Drinker as my Sword.

Just my two cents but maybe only up to legendary tier weapons since exotics are kinda special. Maybe we could find/acquire exotics on our travels but it would be kinda odd if these random guardians have some of the most powerful weapons in the game.

Name: Argo-82
Age: revived shortly after the moon fell to the hive
Gender: male
Race: Exo
Appearance:
ylkYEUK.jpg

wrath-of-the-machine-hard-mode-armor.jpg

Class and Subclass: Hunter gunslinger
Skills: Observation, Guerrilla tactics, marksmanship
Flaws: follows plans rigidly without room for improvisation, lacking in hand to hand combat skills.
Personality traits:
+ level headed
+ cool under pressure
+calculating
- sarcastic
- poor interpersonal relationship skills
Brief History:
Resurrected shortly after the moon fell to the hive, Argo spent his first few years learning from Cayde in the tower. After he finished his training, Argo set out into the wilds of the cosmodrome. He spent long periods of time outside the city and was often isolated in hostile territory. His personality became that of a cold hearted guerilla. When he was not scouting the far reaches of the cosmodrome to send reports back to the tower, Argo performed guerilla attacks on the fallen. His attacks varied from assassinating fallen leaders to sabotage of fallen outposts. On the rare occasion that he returned to the tower, Argo spent most of his time alone. When he was assigned to a fireteam, Argo was often the designated sniper/marksman. He excelled in observing enemy patterns to calculate the best time to strike. However he is often reluctant to assist other guardians as his survival methods focus on completing the mission by whatever means necessary.

When the fallen splicers invaded the plaguelands, Argo was one of the first scouts sent in. Upon discovering the applications of siva, Argo became interested in how the fallen were using it. After a battle, Argo would often pick apart the splicer bodies, searching for clues as to how the siva virus worked. When a raid was planned on the archon prime Aksis, Argo volunteered. During the raid, Argo was instrumental in spotting weak points and bringing down defenses. During the final battle against Aksis himself, Argo was the one who brought down his shields for another guardian to strike him down. In the aftermath, Argo scavenged pieces of armor infused with siva. Shiro-4 and Lord Saladin were wary (with good reason) of an exo with siva armor. So far Argo has not experienced any ill side affects from his siva infused armor and weapons. On occasion he might hear whispered commands, but nothing that has been of major concern...yet.

Weapons:
Fever and Remedy (hand cannon)
Patience and Time (sniper rifle)
If Materia (machine gun)

Okay, so for exotics, as long as there isn't any OP perks to them, I don't see why not but let's use the game mechanic and limit it to only two per person (it can be both weapons, armor, or one each) and you can chose whether your character discovers them in the RP or beforehand.@Dunruffle does have a point of "ordinary" Guardians running around with exotics, so maybe at least have a brief explanation how they found the exotics if it's in the RP. If there's a specific exotic you want, call it out so no one else assumes their character would have it too (I don't think duplicate exotics are canon).

@Oryx I like your idea of our characters partaking in in-game events, though I don't think it has to be with the Guardian specifically. I think it'd be hard for them to have some influence during those events unless they were resurrected between Destiny events and our story line. But really, I think it just comes down to everyone's opinion of their own characters, whether or not they'd have involvement with the Guardian or in-game events.

@TerribleName whether the Vex or Hive come first, or maybe muddled together, I think is interchangeable but you are right we originally said Cabal: Hive: Vex and I apologize for that. Going back to Rasputin, I admit I wouldn't mind doing something with him, like if we actually managed to make direct contact when no one else could, but I also recognize that in our current outline, he might not be needed or necessary to the story. It's something we can put on the back burner for now though and see how the RP goes.

Edit: Oh, I forgot to add on the character template but if you want to add anything about your Guardian's Ghost please do so!

I think we should also remember that many of the exotics in the game are built by ordinary Guardians. Gjallarhorn was built by weapons manufacturer Crux/Lomar, and The Last Word was built by Tex Mechanica. SUROS built the SUROS Regime and Crux/Lomar built Truth. Toland created Bad JuJu, but he isnt ordinary, what IS ordinary is that the player REBUILDS it to acquire it in Y1. Touch of Malice is built by the player, Khvostov-0X is likely just an ordinary gun, Iron Gjallarhorn is built by the player/ghost, Sleeper Simulant is built by the player, Outbreak Prime is built by the player, swords are(technically) built by the player with some help, No Time To Explain is build by FWC, etc. Though I know the player isn't really some random guardian, but at the time of building Y1 weapons they most definitely are. We can also look at the story of Shin Malphur, who comes to possess The Last Word because the guy who owned it(his mentor) died. Or Pahanin, dude build Super Good Advice because he felt like it. So I feel that it would be very likely our Guardians(who were possibly involved in main story events) would come to possess an exotic. I don't know where I was going with this, but I just felt like I should point out that the player in Destiny comes to possess their exotics quite randomly, even when they were just a nobody.

Edit: CS is done! @The Philosoraptor, I hope you don't mind that I used your CS as a base to make mine look spiffy.

I'd also like to point this out, from the Destiny wiki: "He watched the Guardian's progress in his war against Oryx, regarding their victories as simply an extension of how the Hive rule through the Sword-Logic. He was infuriated, however, when the Guardian killed Oryx but refused to take up the mantle as the new Taken King. It is possible that Toland was so upset about the Guardians refusing to take Oryx's place was because he himself became a firm believer in the Sword-Logic and the nature of the strongest ruling. With the Guardians freeing the Light, not Taking it and leaving Oryx's throne vacant, it was obvious that Toland felt that the Guardians squandered the chance to take Oryx's place and more so that the Sword-Logic failed and was now broken. This in turn left Toland's deeply held beliefs and his years of studying the Hive all for nothing."

Does this mean that Sword-Logic is not absolute law? Is it destructible, is it now broken and changed, or none of the above?

No problem! I generally use a similar format in all my RPs to make it look clean and presentable, but it's not trademarked. You should see some of the really cool CSs that the more experienced players can do.

I'm under the impression that the truly devout, like the Hive, believe it to be absolute. Their chief god, the Darkness itself, operates exclusively on Sword-Logic. Due to its vast power and seeming invincibility, those who are not blessed with the Light or a healthy sense of skepticism are apt to regard it as being a representation of a natural law, unbreakable and absolute. However, it is obvious that outside of the Ascendant Realms, where the Hive gods have absolute control of physics and reality, Sword-Logic is merely a deified form of Darwinism: only the strongest individuals may survive to propagate. And even in the Ascendant Realms, one may choose to disregard Sword-Logic at the cost of the strength that comes with it, as when the Guardian refused the power of Oryx.

Simply put, Sword-Logic is a form of magic and a philosophy derived from the Darkness. Its principles give power to the Hive, but in and of itself Sword-Logic is merely a prescriptive law: It tells one what should happen, but does not necessarily happen. Therefore, it is not something that can be broken or changed, but merely followed or disregarded.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. So in Destiny, ammo pops out of things you kill. How would that be handled here, since I usually play as an ammo saver, but Destiny is very shooting-oriented.

I mean, Fallen and Cabal you could say have ammo on them. I dunno, maybe the Vex and Hive bleed bullets.

Gah, been way too busy the past week! As for Kait's involvement with the Guardian, I'm thinking that if she were to do the Vault of Glass then that could possibly spark her interest in the Vex's time travel, and she would most definitely fight for a spot on Crota's End. And maybe during the Vault of Glass, her primary weapon breaks, and she picks up a Slap Rifle from a downed Vex and continues to use it as the Vex Mythoclast? But not all the time.

As for ammo, I'm sure that enemies don't drop reprogrammable matter (which is what I think the ammo drops are), so I think it's safe to assume that Guardians simply keep lots of ammo synthesis in their inventories and also shoot a lot more carefully and precisely than we would in games.

Hopefully I can get a CS up in the next couple of days.

My CS should be up tonight, or at least tomorrow, but I wanted to ask if there's any objection to my character having Dreadfang, the legendary Taken sword? My plan is to have her involved with the Blighted Chalice strike, in which the Guardian's fireteam kills Prince Malok and, per in-game canon, you can potentially acquire Dreadfang. Because this is a Taken weapon and unwelcomed by the Vanguard, she'd use it rarely and only rumors suggest it's actually in her possession.
If anyone had ideas to use this sword, just let me know and I'll let you have it right off :) it's not integral to Hestia's makeup (character name) but something she'd claim given the chance.

@Oryx Hestia is also fascinated with Eris Morn and considers her a friend, though the feeling isn't quite mutual. Would you'd be interested in Rigel-7 and Hestia knowing each other through Eris?
