Name singular: Oningry [ Oh-nin-gree]
Name plural: Oninurst [Oh-nin-yurst]
Powers/Abilities: Uniform through all Oninurst are:
Blood magic- The ability to consume or absorb another races blood in order to gain and use their power. Usually resulting in the donors death due to the invasive and assimilating nature of the magic, it usually requires the full magical stamina and pure concentration of the Oningry, only elder Oninurst can utilize this magic effectively.
Shapeshifting- Manipulating their body to shift from different forms, although they usually only shapeshift into races they have assimilated, or races that they have been able to study up close.
Psycometry- the ability to read the history, use, and tell who had used an object through mostly touch. Oninurst can also read the biology of beings, recent memories and even vitals.
One specific power is unique to a genetic line of Oninurst, each varying on power scale and rarity but almost always being an enhancement of one of the preset abilities.
Lifespan: Using the races 'acquired' magic they are unaffected by time, but enough physical damage will end their lives. Maturity is reached around the age of 100-150 depending on heritage.
Physical description: Although the true original form of this species has been lost through time, it is common particularly on Earth to have two physical forms, the first form is commonly used for leisure among other Onihurst or creatures that are hidden from public knowledge. The second form that an Oningry would utilize is its public form, created by mimicking common traits found in the region where they dwell to create the basic John Doe look varying on their age.
Race History: When this race was still native to its plane of existence it was viewed as a curse to other races of supernatural beings, a plague that assimilated its hosts and absorbed the memories, skills, and powers into its own hive mind.
It is still unknown which side had cast this curse during a drawn out war between two warring factions of supernatural beings, but it is known that they both were consumed by the blood magic curse. Soon, whole civilizations were consumed by the Oninurst in a matter of years, absorbing more and more power to use against more unsuspecting hosts.
Assimilation was the only goal of the Oninurst its prime objective and reason of existence until all life in the realm had been absorbed until a strange wave of magical energy had gifted the Oninurst with a knowledge greater than what its primitive mind had previously known, self awareness. No longer bound by its hive mind mentality many Oningry in the Oninurst society lamented the extinction of life that they had brought, emotions unknown to the once heartless and soulless creature then flooded the masses. With their newfound knowledge of existence, society and civility formed in the ranks of the once mindless disease, and growth prospered during the centuries not unlike the renaissance of the human civilization. With the previous memories of countless assimilated races the Oninurst had at their disposal they quickly 'discovered' government, religion and most important of all, magical prowess.
Although this race is considered in its infantile stage still, their relationship with some supernatural races are shoddy at best, after all they were technically responsible for the genocide and near complete extinction of various races. What the Oninurst can only try to do is save face by showing that they are not the Hive mind disease that history had once shown them to be, hence the enrollment of new spawned Oninurst to the Magical Omnibus Academy on Earth. Hopefully by showing the races of others that they are able to learn and control their magic just as good as other races, they can prove their place in the supernatural society is one of good standing.
Cultural description: The Oninurst culture has little to no consideration of personal space between fellow Oninurst (and therefore other members of different races) seeing as they are more or less all family despite no longer being controlled by a single hive mind, their 'family' consists of groups upward of 15 to 20 members that see physical touch as a sign of good will, familial love, and respect; although many young Oninurst are taught that other races value personal space, this largely is in one ear and out the other. Religion is also a large staple in the Oninurst society, wherein bi-daily private meditation is required to both commune with the 'God spirit of creation', during the morning, as well as sort and categorize the plethora of information acquired during the day mostly before the Oningry sleeps.
The Oninurst Government is an Ecclesiastical Council, the self proclaimed Council of Ten, where a group of no more than ten Oninurst govern the whole of the race through appointed leaders of each planet in the realm on Onontesa and the Oningry ambassador to Earth.
Realm: Onontesa [Oh-known-teh-saw]- A solar system consisting of three planets. The first planet closest to the sun reduced to a barren molten landscape by the original conquest of the Oninurst, it serves as a sullen monument to the once horrid past, and a constant reminder to keep the well being of the other races in mind. The second planet once a home to trans-planetary species was where the knowledge of Earth, Omnibus Academy, and self existence was acquired. This is where the Council governs from, the third and final planet is the home world of the Oninurst.
With the absorbed magic of the second planetary species consisting primarily in opening rift portals to realms easy enough to travel to, Earth was a main priority, being a melting pot and focus point of many other magical beings, it serves as a way to elevate their tarnished reputation through their presence.
Other: Since the Oninurst are talented psychometrists, a young Oningry is known to regularly wear hand covers to prevent a sensory overload, though it can be easily controlled through regular meditation and maturity, usually coming to complete control around age 30-40. It is mostly by touching objects and complex material, rather than people that causes this challenge.
Short description: The remnants of a will-consuming, hive mind curse that once assimilated any living creature in its wake. Having regained sentience as an entirely new species, they now seek to redeem themselves in the eyes of other magical
races.
