Welcome! In addition to the Iwaku rules, please follow these of my own:
No discussing real world hot-topic issues, such as politics, religion, or other things that may cause arguments.
Do please respect your other players, and my role as GM.
Don't be afraid to chat or ask questions! I love it!

Please at least one paragraph per post, do your best to keep the scene moving.
Please do your best with punctuation and grammar!
There is no posting order, and you are allowed to post to keep conversations moving, but please be courteous and limit yourself if it is only you and someone else.

Please do not post characters in this thread.
You may have up to 3 characters active in a single tournament. Other characters not in the tournament may still interact in the resort

(Many of the rules about rolling will only be used by me. However, die rolls and effects will be listed out in the post, so if I make a mistake you might catch it and correct me)

Combat is done in a turn-based format. Each player types out one post which details the response to the last round, as well as the character's actions for the current round. You may not control your opponent's character in any way, unless permission is given. You may also not emote any attacks landing, as the occurrences of each combat round is determined by dice, and will be emoted in the GM post.

In combat, each round a character may choose an action:
ALL-OUT ATTACK - 2 Attack dice
BALANCED - 1 Attack die 1 Defense die
TOTAL DEFENSE - 2 Defense Dice (This action may only be used twice in a row)
Or they may activate one of their special abilities.

(Defensive abilities that are not agressed upon will not activate cooldown)

Even Rolls (2,4,6,8,10) are successes, odd rolls (3,5,7,9,11) all fail.
1's are Critical Fails, 12's are Critical Success

1 Attack deals 1 health
1 Defense protects 1 health
Crit Attack deals 2 health
1 Attack and 1 Defense cancel out
Critfail Attack causes 1 health to attacker
Defense makes Crit Attack deal 1 health
Crit Defense cancels Crit Attack
Crit Defense deals counter vs normal attack
Critfail Defense allows a counter vs Successful Defense
Critfail Defense makes a successful attack a Crit

HEALTH CONDITIONS
Healthy -> Slightly Wounded -> Wounded -> Heavily Wounded -> Near Defeat -> Defeated
9hp -> 8/7hp -> 6/5hp -> 4/3hp -> 2/1hp -> 0hp (Dead)

WINS AND PROGRESSION
In general, the characters will 'level' in a balanced manner. The farther a character gets in a tournament, the more of their gear they can make look 'fancy' with no real gameplay difference. The winning character(s) of a tournament will get something new and fancy (still with no mechanical benefit), possibly progress towards 'win-locked goals' and must sit out for the next tournament. Other characters will also gain new gear for participation if they haven't won in a while
LOSSES - In most cases, battle losses will have no consequences beyond being out of the tournament. However, if decided upon by the players in one match, the loser may have to give up one item, may become inactive for a number of tournaments, or even be killed outright

Yeah, it's fun so far! Once we get passed all the rules stuff, I'm sure it'll be even better xD

XD ye, you think you'll be able to post in the Resort so there is a little bit of permanent story built up? I think it'd be interesting that as time goes on the resort and rhe tournament at least influence each other. Like, later tournaments could pit known friends against each other, and if you do decide to make us do a few 2 v 2s or free-for-alls(a FFA would be really fun at some point, it could be structured like the hunger games) very interesting dynamics could crop up. We don't have to limit the tournaments to 1 v 1 fights, this RP has a ton of potential, and I'm excited to see where it ends up going.

OOC Battle Practice Round 1
Arena 1 - Sail vs Neil
@Sail @Tiguidi
Terrain: Open Arena
Weather: Overcast Evening
Sail -> 2 Defense (12 crit/12 crit) = 2 Critical Success
Neil -> 1 Attack 1 Defense (2/10) = Success/Success
Sail Gains 2 Counter Dice
Sail -> (7/8) = Fail/Success

End Result
Sail -> 9 HP Healthy
Neil -> 8 HP Slightly Wounded

(OOC: Last time I did this format, I wrote the entire results. This time, I am attempting to write less so as to allow greater player agency and flashiness as they post the results from their perspective as well. If you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to give them. This probably means less prose in my turn, but that's probably fine?)

Neil would watch his opponent closely even as he ripped a chunk out of the fortress wall and sent it flying towards Sail. However, it seemed like he wasn't expecting Sail's reflexes or reactions, as she was not only able to dodge the chunk of stone but was able to make a counter-attack.

Sail leapt from her perch as the stone sailed through the air; her grappling hook latched itself into the grey stone of the arena floor. "AI, note that the target, Neil, is some form of telekenetic, but he seems to only be able to hold himself up for a short amount of time," she spoke as she hit the ground, her mask keeping her words from escaping.

She retracted her light rope and and leveled her gun at Neil, firing off two quick pulses. She didn't wait to see if her attacks hit, instead forging forward and launching herself upwards into the air. As she arched towards Neil, her light cord now attached to the wall near him, she fired another pulse of energy at him.

Neil let out a hum as he watched his opponent's moves. He already knew she was able to move around with that grappling hook but he didn't expect that level of speed and proficiency with it. He was about to let out a snarky remark but the sting of a pulse of energy onto his arm interrupted him. Quickly noticing the second one, he formed his psychic barrier around himself, letting the projectile disappear as it made contact with the psionic shield. "Well that was rude...", he finally said, patting the arm that was shot.

Looking down, he saw the woman raising her weapon for another attack. "Oh, can you not?", he continued as he sent another chunk of the partially destroyed wall at her.

(Balanced, 1 Attack Die and 1 Defense Die)

OOC: Questions! Should Neil use telekinesis directly on his opponent, how should I handle it? Have him attempt to grab them or have him grab them successfully, the roll determining if the opponent can evade damage after getting thrown? I guess the same question would apply to his Telekinetic Crush ability.

OOC: @Tiguidi - I would have to say that if you grab an opponent, the roll is an attempt to grab and throw - if you fail they aren't grabbed. As for the ability, if at minimum one damage is successful then you can grab and hold them for the attack, but not for very long. Does that make sense?

Sail's attack would miss its mark, and Neil would be able to slam his opponent with an impact of stone.

Sail felt the impact of the rock tear through her suit; small nanobots rushed to repair the hole left in her suit. She cursed to herself as she barely managed to stick the landing.

"Target can fire projectiles at high enough speed. AI, please begin calculating the speed of the projectile. I need the information fast so I can better dodge his attacks." Sail holstered her gun, switching her gun-hand bracelet on, forcing it into the shape of a broadsword. It's size didn't particularly effect it's weight, and so she continued to increase its size until it was a good 15 feet in length.

At that point, she fired a light lance at the ground immediately beneath Neil, attempting to shield her head with the light blade.

OOC Note: I'm going to referring to the grappling hook as a light lance occasionally so I don't overuse the word "grappling hook"

The esper let out a small 'ooooh' as he saw the woman bring out a large broadsword. That looked like some great pieces of equipment! "That looks dangerous.", he commented in his casual tone. "But just so you know, I'm not limited to throwing rocks around, that would be boring."

He figured he'd get a little serious by showing his opponent one of his favorite tricks to do. His eyes briefly glowed once again but instead of focusing his power on rocks, he focused it directly on the woman. Should he be able to concentrate enough on her and lift her into the air, he'd close his fist in his pocket in order to apply a good amount of pressure on her body.

As Sail looked to block her opponent's strikes, Neil did some trickery and was able to grab her, lifting the woman into the air. He brought pressure around her body, able to crush her a good amount before she would either escape, or he would drop her.

The sudden pressure was unexpected-she felt the air in her lungs suddenly expelled as it tightened around her like a rope. She felt a cough try to force it's way out, felt her body attempt to suck in air, but her efforts were fruitless.

She began to feel her suit give; she murmured a prayer to Master of All Things, begging him to let her escape Neil's grasp. For the briefest of moments as she prayed, she began to see spots of darkness swim before, making it harder to see the ground beneath her.

Her light lance fought against the pressure of his telekinesis; she felt a sudden yanking pressure the moment he let up on his hold her.

She crashed to the ground, pain flaring through her body as she struggled to recover from the attack. Her suit began to inject her with painkillers; they would help her to catch her breath and regain her bearings and then she knew she'd have to prepare to attack. She couldn't handle waiting any longer to tackle her opponent.

"Begin blurring countermeasures. Target has the capability to construct his opponents with a thought." She launched her light lance directly at his chest; he wouldn't feel it, only see it. Her form began to blur as she launched herself toward him.

Neil winced when his opponent hit the ground, visibly wounded by his attack. "Shit, did I go too far...?", he asked himself. Staying still for a few moments, he watched as Sail got up, seemingly able to move still. He obviously didn't want to kill with his attacks so he has been briefly worried that he's caused some internal damage.

His eyes briefly widened, however, as the grappling hook went flying towards him. Not only that but even when squinting his eyes, it looked like the woman's form began to... disappear? No, that wasn't it. Well, whatever the case, he needed to act fast as he wasn't exactly in a good position at the moment.

His eyes glowed blue once again as he sent a wave of psychic energy in front of him in a cone, hoping to blast his opponent away before she could do anything to him.

As Sail's nanoarmor began to vibrate and cause her form to blur heavily, her position uncertain, Neil focused his power and then sent out a telekinetic blast in front of him. The very edge caught Sail, but she was easily able to catch herself from being sent flying.

She felt the telekenetic cone surrounding her; she held tight to the light lance, hoping against hope that she wouldn't be blown off course. She felt a slight nick at her right side, but her nanotech managed to weigh her left side down, keeping her from moving away from her target.

"Alert! Alert! Trajectory Complete! Trajectory Complete! Target is currently weak and anxious. Master Sail, this would be a perfect time to attack." Every word the AI was transmitted into Sail's mind-it would be as if she had thought of it herself.

As she reached her target, she made four wide-reaching strikes. Each strike was guided by the suit, her nanotech lending it's assistance; right, left, down, and then a deep stab forward.

"I missed...!?", Neil let out as he took a step back, seeing the woman charge towards him with the help of her grappling hook. The unexpectedness of her attack style made the esper chew on his lip in worry. "Oh no you don't!"

Finally sticking a hand out of his pockets, he rose it high in the air as other pieces of the wall detached themselves and started swirling between Neil and Sail, forming an improvised defensive whirlwind of debris. It took a lot of concentration to manipulate that amount of small objects but he still found the energy to try and move away from his spot. While he knew he had the capability to deal with melee combatants, he wasn't comfortable being on the top of a wall while in close-quarters.

Neil quickly reacted to Sail's sudden change in tactics, ripping the arena apart and causing the debris to orbit around him in a wall of defense. However, Sail seemed to be able to use the stones as a lunching pad to get in close to Neil. The blade first right, slashing him deep, then left, and then downwards. She pulled back for a final thrust, but before she could make good on that attack a stone whirled around and smacked her in the face, throwing off her groove.

Sail planted her foot on one of the floating stones, assisting her advance on Neil. She leapt from rock to rock, dancing through the air, relying on her suit's guidance systems to make up for whatever weaknesses her own brain had.

One slash-she felt a slight resistance from her opponent. Two more powerful swings and then...

A rock sailed through the air, smacking her hand, knocking her final swing off target, causing her to lose concentration on attack. There would be no returning to the flurry of sword slashes, but she knew she had one last trick as the blade vanished in its home.

Her now empty right hand fell to her side, pulling her pistol from it's holster. "Engage high energy mode. Single shot." The gold lines across her suit began to glow as she leveled her gun at Neil and fired.

Neil didn't even have the time to move away as his opponent seemed to use the barrage of debris to her advantage, easily maneuvering around the rocks to get in his face. He didn't have the time to counter as she hit him multiple times with her weapon, making cough out some blood. Wincing from the pain, the esper looked up, realizing that he was lucky enough not to have suffered an additional strike because of a stray rock. Though he knew things weren't over when he noticed the pistol pointed right at his face.

No time for shitty comeback, he was in definite trouble. Interrupting his control over the debris, he let them fall to the ground down below with a crash, instead focusing his energy onto his barrier, creating a coat of psychic energy around his body, which hopefully would protect him from the blast.

Sail's gun would loose a hyper-lethal explosion directly at Neil, who was able to strengthen his barrier enough that it didn't break through. However, it did knock him back to impact the wall.

Sail fired her light lance behind herself at the ground, wanting to escape before the explosion could cause any damage to her. She glided through the air, landing with a roll.

She turned to see Neil launched into the wall; stone clattered to the arena floor from his impact. She needed to finish this-the pain injections were already wearing off. She summoned a second light lance in gun hand immediately after putting away her smoking pistol.

She aimed at two larger chunks of rock, and then launched them up at Neil.

Neil clenched his jaw at his impact with the wall. His barrier flickered around him but it still held on, fortunately. "Whew, alright... That's getting a bit too rough for my taste..." As he was wounded, he absolutely didn't want to drop his barrier but he couldn't let himself be defeated like that. "Slow and steady it is..."

Taking a second to breath, he lowered the power of his barrier to allow him to pick up a few rocks from the ground to throw at his opponent. He wanted to play as passively as possible but he couldn't win without going on the offensive.
