Night of the Marauding Dead

Erika started to grin as the many different undead warriors came towards her, slowly she started to cackle as she reached out and simply crushed ones head as her tails seemed to come from behind her and ears off the few weapons of those that got close. “You know there must be a reason why each one of these things are differently armoured besides the adventurers that they killed” she said rather nonchalantly as she was weaving in and out of strikes while sending her own into those that came close.

Inwardly she was both estatic and grossed out, they were rotting flesh so the scent of it was rather cloying to her as she open their innards.

Off in the distance there seemed to be a man wearing a set of plate mail with a blue and silver surcoat atop it. In one hand was a crimson stained curved blade while in the other was a repeating crossbow. The ease at which he moved in the armour was clearly inhuman and not a single movement was wasted as he focused on helping the rest of the adventurers. A blade block here and a corpse pulled away there was all that he was doing.

As Ryan observed the combat between the undead and the group of strangers he'd met, his mind was running a marathon. The rotting corpses that Sarah, Erika, and Nevin had more or less torn to pieces didn't get back up. So, whatever brought them back to life could only do just that: once they were killed again, they would stay dead, at least if the body was destroyed, which meant that he couldn't use a dead specimen, at least not for every test. He needed one alive, which meant he needed some brave soul to take one without killing it.

That brave soul...was not him. "Hey, guys!" He called out to Nevin, Sarah, Erika, and anyone else who could hear him, really. He wasn't picky. "It'd be totally cool if you would like...well...maybe take one alive for me or something! K', thanks?" He gave everyone who paid attention to him a double thumbs up and an over exaggerated wink, all while he slowly backpedaled.

The docks were covered with bodies of both the living and undead. The undead that had blown the horn raised his weapon and, with seemingly no effort at all, thrust the bottom end of his halberd into the throat of the of his victim, crimson blood splashing onto his torso as the body fell to the floor. He took extra care to move the body aside, tossing the corpse into the water where it floated away and towards the ship that the Undead came from.

He turned his gaze to Nevin, gripping his halberd with both hands as he started on his way towards him. "Oi, oi, oi. That's pretty brutal."

******

Tucker rubbed furiously at his ears, sucking air in through his teeth. He couldn't believe he used to blow things like that, it was threatening to give him a headache! But Nisha's jab got a snicker from him. Unfortunately for him, she'd left before he could retort, an action that he scoffed at. "Me? Die? Come on...I'm invincible." He mumbled before stalking off in the direction the horn had been blown from.

His time of arrival, at least as far as he could tell, could have been better. The fight had definitely begun, and already casualties had occurred. "Damn...weak...losers..." The Demi-Wolf grumbled as he broke into a sprint to the docks and at the undead. First things first, he had to assist the bigger bunch, he didn't need the already huge number of zombie warriors to increase any more than they already had. "Nobody else better die!" He called out as he stepped onto the docks.

Almost immediately, he was jumped by one of the undead, a sword thrust towards his throat. He was able to avoid it, spinning his body out of the way and extending his arm, the backhand of his palm slamming into the undead's fleshless side. The bones cracked and splintered as the body was sent flying into the water. "Stay back to back, don't let them surround you!"

That seemed to be their major strategy. Even as he spoke, the creatures began to do just that, attempting to swarm around Sarah and Erika. They were fragile, but they weren't dumb. They knew their advantage lay in their numbers and they were intent on using that.

As she heard someone calling for one of the living dead to be taken alive Sarah cursed science nerds everywhere. They always seemed to have stupidly impractical requests, especially seeing as they were never at the sharp end of having to try and fulfill them. The next zombie that came towards her went down headless, it’s skull smashed like an egg by the harden steel tip of Sarah’s baton as she vented her frustration. And yet still more came, pouring out of the sea in an unending horde.

“Alex, I really hope,” Sarah paused as ducked under a wildly swung sword before smashing it’s owners knee caps to pieces. “I really hope you have a machine gun with you.”

There was no reply from the Scotsman, not that Sarah expected one. Alex was a fantastic shooter. He had been F.A.N.G.S best, and they had been an agency with a nose for talent and the money to throw at it. Still he was only human and at the rate she could hear and sometimes feel undead bodies being decimated behind her she knew that her partner would barley be having time to breathe let alone voice some of his trademark wit.

"Stay back to back, don't let them surround you!"

Sarah had no idea who had just shouted across the battlefield but she had to agree with them. Slowly she began to edge her way backwards to where she had last seen another living soul, Alex keeping the path behind her back as clear of enemies as he could.

"Brutal, eh?" Nevin swerved around to face the Undead coming his way. He looked... well, dead, but there was something that caused Nevin to be warier of him than the others he had taken care of. This fellow seemed somewhat authoritative, once more proving that the undead here weren't merely mindless zombies, rather beings that had understanding and probably some sort of motive.

From afar he could hear someone shouting out sound advice of staying back to back, but there was no way he could attempt to do that now that some undead bastard was pointedly coming his way. Frown still upon his face, he shifted back to his wolf form.

"Huh, that's kinda cool." That voice wasn't from the undead, but Nevin didn't dare look away from the zombie. There was the sound of some sort of blade being pulled out. "Don't worry, I got your back."

Well, they sounded human, so that meant they were on the same side? The scent was somewhat familiar, but with all the rotting scent from the corpses, he could very well be mistake. "Right, thanks." With that, he leaped forward, slamming his large paws into the Undead, snarling. "Why are you attacking this place?!" Maybe he'd be able to keep this one alive for Ryan.

[JUSTIFY[Erika either didn't hear or heed Tucker's warning, fighting her way into the swarm of undead. For a while, she seemed as if she would be fine, managing to avoid the blows of her enemies before striking back. With a thrust of her hand, she buried her claws deep into the chest of an undead. She tried to pull her arm back, but it became stuck. She tried her hardest to free herself from the now laughing corpse but before she could, one of the undead thrust their sword through her chest, followed by a second and then a third. The blades were removed and her arm freed, allowing for her now lifeless body to hit the ground. Her body was trampled upon by her killers as they moved on to take more lives, but only a few moments later it rose from the ground, walking alongside the walking dead into battle.

"Son of a..." Tucker grumbled at first but decided it wasn't worth being angry over, at least not right now. If she didn't head his warning then she probably had it coming. It didn't matter now, anyway. What was important was repelling these undead abominations as fast as possible. By now the initial crowd of the living had been somewhat reduced to less than half of what it once was. The weak had been weeded out and only the strongest were left, and even they had begun retreating, escaping back into the city if they could. Unfortunately, they were being surrounded as well.

The Chief of Police took notice of Sarah and, more importantly, the fact that she seemed to have some sort of assistance. Someone was watching her back, a sniper? Good. Maybe that could help. "Hey, you!" He called out to Sarah as he grabbed the body of one of the undead. He hoisted it over his head and threw it into one a group of the others. "You and your friend, help me keep those wanna-be-heroes from dying! I think we can start driving them back!" [/JUSTFY]

The undead warrior stumbled backward from Nevin's strike but was quick to regain its footing, an irritated groan rising from what remained of its throat. "Damn mutt..." He grumbled, his grip on his weapon tightening. "Why does anyone do anything?" He asked rhetorically. "We do what gives us purpose, and this gives us purpose!"
"We're warriors, fighting is what we do." He snarled as he approached Nevin. "We were born to fight. We died fighting. And now, our souls return to this world to continue fighting. What more reason do we need?"
"Now, die...and join us!"The undead swung his weapon once he was close to Nevin, aiming to embed the blade into his side. He wanted to kill him, but he didn't wish to remove the wolf's head, he was no good to him that way. The head needed to stay intact.
Ryan watched the two with a keen interest, which was indicated by the stroking of his bare chin and imaginary beard. Most of the other undead seemed mindless and without intelligence, but not this one. This one still had a personality and, even more interesting, drive. His drive may not amount to much, nor did it tell them precisely what was going on, but it was still there. If there ever was a perfect specimen, that was it.
"Don't kill him!" The genius called out to the wolf shifter. "If you bring him back alive I could probably get some information out of him! Even if it's just through good ol' interrogation! Just...go for the legs!" If they could simply remove his limbs then he would hardly be a threat to anyone. He was a warrior, but what good was that without the ability to fight?
