All civilian ships should make a safe distance from Earth so as to not be caught in the battle we will soon face.

Yet, there was still hope. For the Drathy brought with him technology. “The Nexus should arrive in Sol within the week. At our current pace, the colony ship should be able to lift off in five days. The Drathy has given us the Subspace Drive and a prototype fighter system. With our limited time and resources, this was all he could offer. We can only fit a total of one million people onboard the ship. I have spoken with the Drathy personally and he said… We will loss this battle.”

In five days, the ship was space worthy and could activate the subspace drive. In five days, the Nexus arrived.

Alarms rang throughout the ship. “Admiral! Spatial distortions detected! It’s the Nexus, they’re coming!” Quickly announced the sensors operator. The admiral and captain of the colony ship replied over the intercom. “I’m heading for the bridge. Begin liftoff procedures and all combat systems at the ready.” Organized chaos would describe the scene as everyone rushed to their stations. However, it was far different above the planet as the fleet was already engaging the Nexus as they passed through wormholes.

The largest force assembled in one place, forty thousand ships fired ceaselessly on the ships that appeared through the holes in space. Yet as they continued to pour, the number of ships being destroyed couldn’t keep up with the ever increasing numbers coming in. In the course of one minute, they’d already destroyed nearly one hundred thousand ships. But now the fleet was starting to take losses. However even as they stood before a nearly unending number of ships appearing, there was a false sense of hope. For there was a single ship flying the Nexus lines, bringing with it devastation. The Drathy ship was massive compared to most human ships. Seen from a distance, it was a white blur that rained destruction. Up close it displayed a laser lightshow on a scale only dreamed off. All around it ships were exploding and its presence drew the attention of the Nexus away from the human fleet. As the firing intensified on the Drathy ship, it would suddenly accelerate incredibly fast until it vanished, only to appear again elsewhere. It did this repeatedly and the number of Nexus ships destroyed continued to mount, but alas, it was as if the Nexus were unfazed.

Back on Earth, the last of the one million crew were entering the ship. Above them, even thought it was dawn, they could see the explosions in space and the debris beginning to rain down and burn up upon entry. It had been over ten minutes, the ship was ready to launch and the last of the crew were onboard. “Situation report.” Asked the Admiral while looking at a screen displaying the space above them, the fleet, and the nexus ships. The admiral didn’t need an answer. The outcome was clear; the fleet had already lost a quarter of its ships. The Drathy ship was escaping more frequently and taking longer to return. “All hands, this is the captain, I herby take full command of this vessel. Prepare for takeoff." With that, the admiral ordered the ship to launch. The entire ship rumbled as the massive engines which has been slowly powering up quickly began to provide thrush to lift the ship. Light broke through the surface as the top of the facility opened to let the ship leave. Slowly the horizon began to appear on the mean screen as the colony ship gained altitude. With it, the extent of the battle could be seen.

Nexus ships were already beginning to enter the atmosphere. Only a half of the fleet remained and the Nexus outnumbered them six hundred to one. The Drathy ship was trying its best to slow the advance with little success. The plan is to perform the subspace jump and then meet the Drathy at the exit point since it would arrive there faster and from there, assist in rebuilding the human race and arming them to fight the Nexus. The Admiral knew exactly what to do and stayed course. Once they were clear of the atmosphere, he ordered the subspace drive to active. In doing so, the shield had to lower and a stable space-time bubble had to form. Leaving the ship vulnerable. Upon breaking atmosphere, their path was open and the order was made. Everyone waited with baited breath as the bubble formed around the ship and the dive into subspace began. It was as if space began to splash open before the ship. Waves of bright multicolored space slowly began to envelop the ship. “Distortion detected! Above us!” Everyone’s hearts skipped a beat as the main screen changed to reveal a massive wormhole opening above them. Out of it, slowly descended a baseship. A huge Nexus mobile fortress made of hexagonal structures interconnected by long, thin, passages. Against such a ship, there was no hope. The Admiral only had enough time to call out, “Where’s the Drathy?!” When it appeared between them.

The firing between the ships was intense and seemed to actually match the Drathy ship in power. However, the Drathy ship was severly weakened and its shields began to fail. However, if it were to move, the colony ship would be destroyed in seconds. So it stayed… The last moments we saw of the Drathy ship as the subspace dive completed was of its shields failing and explosions raking across its hull.

We ran. And ran. And ran some more. We traveled an entire month in subspace. It was equivalent to traveling one thousand light years in distance. When we returned to normal space, only because our subspace drive broke down, we had traveled far beyond human space and for the time being, out of the Nexus’s reach. Even though they can travel anywhere instantly, they are methodical in their expansion design. However the original plan was over. They had all seen it, the Drathy ship being destroyed. Along with it, much of the technology the Drathy had to offer. However, all hope was not lost, even with such a grin situation, they moved forward in search for a new world to colonize.

Alright, that’s the setting and back story for the RP… it is also the setting of an actual story I worked on a long time ago. It’s a lot to read but I had fun writing it soooo…. ;P

The colony ship is literally a colony in the shape of a ship. It has a city inside of it. Surrounded by military facilities such as shipyard large enough to build a destroyer. A hanger for fighters. The core of the ship which holds the primary power source of the ship and the subspace driver. And finally the military headquarters.

The Drathy who helped the humans was actually the next in line to be emperor of his people. They also come from another galaxy and have been fighting the Nexus for a very long time. Xenophobes by nature, they don’t get involved with any other race in the universe. However this one saw a potential in humans that they shared. Humans, with the aid of a machine, could channel zero-point energy. Basically the energy of the universe. Humans lack the ability to control an entire star ship with one person, however a fighter craft could. This is why the Drathy gave them the technology to create fighters which could have access to the zero-point energy via the pilot.

While not all humans can act as mediums for the energy and most quickly build a resistance to it, some can channel a sustained amount of energy for long enough to be useful. Pilots who are capable of this are jokingly called psy-pilots.

The way the energy is used changes from one fighter to another depending upon who the energy is channeled. Some can let out a large burst of energy while others gain a static effect. However keep in mind that the pilot can only channel a few seconds of energy in any given day. There are also often negative effects which humans are beginning to access this early in their evolution.

Now for the character info. There are three character options; however I would like most people to play pilots since they play a major role for most of the story.

Psy-pilot: Already explained, you are a pilot of a special fighter which has its own unique appearance and specialty. Pilots slowly get more powerful as the story progresses. I don’t want to make it sound like the pilot doesn’t do much compared to the others. However without giving away certain story details, I will leave it at this. Just like the others jobs, the pilot evolves with the story. Changing and upgrading the fighter, becoming more skilled, more powerful, and their characters evolve more rapidly then anyone else.

Star ship captain: Alright, you won’t have an active combat role until resources have been obtained. Once they are obtained, ships will be built which then you may command and even specially designed ones can be made if the choice is made. Unlike the pilots, you have the ability to effect the actually events which unfold. For example, diplomatic relations with other races, what actions the fleet takes (such as do we work on building mobile shipyard able to build larger ships or do we use those resources to build more ships at our current scale capacity or do we concentrate on designing better ships and weapons), and will eventually take command of their own fleets. (Once a fleet is formed, rank changes to admiral.)

The Admiral: You are the leader of the remaining human race. Our fate rides on your shoulders. This is the most powerful position and you have the command of all military forces. Along with the captains, you make the decisions that alter the story and how it plays out. (Upon fleet formations, rank changes to Fleet Admiral.)

When I say that the choices that are made will impact the story, I’m serious. Even if it’s the choice of a pilot, what you do can completely alter how the story ends. Be it destruction at the hands of the Nexus or any number of others races in the galaxy. A new beginning out of reach by the Nexus. Vengeance had with the retaking of Earth. Peace between the Nexus (this one is really, really, really unlikely, in fact, don’t even consider it. I just added it because any ending is possible if done right.)

The title is a work in progress because I don't remember the original name of the story. So I just called it Nexus War. This is the first act of the entire story. So if there is sufficient interest, and humanity survives, there'll be another thread called 'Nexus War: something or another'. XD

I'll fully explain the tech limitations tomorrow. But basically, light and heavy laser weapons. soft and hard shields. ion-thrusters an engine norm. inertial dampeners that aren't perfect. this should be enough for anyone to get a good idea.
