Main Base: The Land
Name: Mallory Devlin
Nicknames: Mall(function), smog child
Role: Citizen

Character Pitch: The bastard child of a member of the Sky with his mistress on the Land. Mallory is one of the many, but one of the lucky few as far as one can call her lucky. Her father decided that he would support her mother and her, a rare privilege few get. It made a comfortable childhood possible in the better parts of The Land and the rare education from a governess. However, she would never meet the man, as he couldn’t afford to have his infidelity known. Her mother was quite alright with it. She had a stable income and leverage on the man and not a day was needed to be spent working. A decision Mallory can't find peace with as she finds no respect in being supported by some stranger that finds shame in her existence.

Wishing to support herself by her own means Mallory thus decided to go out into the city. However, with a personality as foul as the air of The Land the female has great difficulty in finding a stable job. While she is plenty willing and has a quick mind her character is another obstacle. She has gotten into her fair share of squabbles due to her hot temper that flares up quicker than the Ovens in The Underground. Accompanied with a humour that tends to be just as scathing and as dark as the smog from the factories she has earned herself a reputation of sorts. The fact that her 'father' is also keeping tabs on her and pulling his strings to prevent her from getting any 'unworthy' jobs infuriates the woman all the more.

Shortly put; Mallory Devlin is a scowling mess of bitterness.

Appearance: Mallory is a fair skinned brunette of average build and height with pale green eyes. True to her mother’s likeness there is some beauty and grace in the female, but nothing that she takes pride in. Most of the time anything likable in her face is soiled by the dirty look she gives everyone and the permanent scowl she carries. Her mouth and personality also tend to bleach away any of her natural charisma, making it hard to see past all the foulness that is her character.

Main Base: The Land
Name: Thomas Baris
Nicknames: Tom, Thomasa
Role: Citizen, Reporter

Character Pitch:
"Reporter Thomas calling in!"
"What do you mean you expected a boy?"

Eager writer looking for something juicy to write. Wants to be an author, but needs to earn her bread, so a reporter she became!

Thomas, also called by the feminine name Thomasa, is one of Golden City’s many reporters. A sensationalist with a head full of stories. With a writer’s ambition it is often hard to tell what is fiction and what is truth with Thomas, as everything becomes a complot and a gear of another story. However, it gives some live to the dullness everyday and as such Thomas is kept around, often with her articles heavily edited so that the credibility of the papers don't suffer too much.

Born as the youngest of a series of six daughters Thomas is often considered a disappointment within the family. Where they hoped that Thomas would be the son they had all hoped for they got another daughter instead. It would be the first of many griefs Thomas would give to the Baris family.

Too hung up over her birth the family decided to give Thomas the name of the male that never came. A name that held all of the wishes of a son. As the sixth daughter in house she was handed and passed down between the hands of her sisters that couldn't be bothered to look after yet another sibling. Her father worked long and hard hours as a clerk while her mother was a mid-wife. Neither jobs that generated enough of an income to support a large family. This lead to it that she was often ditched in a corner to entertain herself. As the streets of Golden City aren't places for a child to roam freely she thus was often stuck inside, where her imagination had to amuse her.

However Thomas was an active child. With too much energy in her body and an overactive imagination the girl often ran to and fro, coming back with the wildest stories and large tears in the hand-me-downs of her sisters. It grew to the point that her mother frustratingly cut off her long hair, claiming that she should look the part if she was going to act like a wild son. It was the beginning of worse as Thomas took this as a sign to go wild. Now all grown up and an adult the female is still running about. Now hoping to become an author of sorts she refuses to bend to the rest of her parents' and society's expectations. Still with that vivid imagination she had as a child and the wildest stories that mixes fiction with truth she became a freelance reporter to earn her bread, aspiring to be one day a bestselling author.

Appearance: Thomas is a lanky tall female with short messy dark hair and wild hazel eyes. Upon meeting her for the first time she is often mistaken for a male, with her boyish charm and name. However, despite her choice in fashion the female despises it to be mistaken by gender, making good effort in verbally reminding and correcting all who she encounters.

Main Base: The Underground

Name: Phineas Abbess
Nicknames: Finny, Fin, the Ant
Role: Criminal [Chattering Coughs]

Character Pitch: Within the Underground many brothels are run. Places of sin and pleasure for the wealthier to enjoy. It was their little scandal; between a prostitute and a customer and where between the sheets promises were made when they were riding high on euphoria. Promises the customer would forget about soon enough once they dressed and paid.

Every prostitute with some common sense would know to ignore these words and not take them to heart. Not Rosalie, young and naive she was she truly believed her patron when he promised her a place next to him in the Sky. Starry eyed and in love she impregnated herself with his child to fasten up the process. However, the young man rejected the idea of the child being his, as a whore bedded many men and there was no way knowing if it was truly his seed that made the fruit. Rosalie was left alone and a child was born. Phineas, he was named with a surname given to signify his mother’s profession. A child of shame.

Phineas grew up to be independent. While he was doted on by his mother’s colleagues the boy was often left to his own devices when the rest had to work. Work that he wasn’t allowed to be near for, as the presence of a child could give their patrons a scare. As such the boy was sent out of the brothel to ‘play’, wherever that could be in the Underground.

Being a young boy with little to nothing to himself and immensely bored he started himself with little ‘pranks’. Giving coal to the blind beggars and claim it to be bread. Warning illegal stokers of the appearance of whichever criminal held purview in that area, or mess up their process by tinkering with the substances. Other times he would lie and convince his way around the black market to get a free good or two, or he would take it for himself without a trial. Sometimes he would even sent lost miners to the ovens, to be dealt with whatever held itself up there. They were all meant innocently, but they were oh, so wicked in their consequences. It gained him a certain notoriety in the Underground and it earned him another name. The Ant he was named, small and pesky with a surprising strength.

Appearance: For a boy in his early teens Phineas managed to grow at a decent rate, making him taller than most kids are in the Underground, but shorter than the average is in the rest of the city. While agile and quick on his feet the boy does have a slight swagger in his step caused by uneven legs.

Without ever seeing a decent amount of sun he is rather ghoulish in complexion, his skin a grayish unhealthy tint and his build scrawny. However, that can’t be seen in the rest of his demeanour. With dark twinkling eyes there is always mischief written over his face with a sparkle of the rapid wit he is so known for. With his messy dark hair he looks like any other young prankster on the Land, but one with a lack of conscience and sympathy.

Main Base: The Sky
Name: Amos Fleming
Nicknames: The Runner, the Forever Bachelor, the Thumb
Role: Council Member - Vice-president

Character Pitch: As a former Inquisition member Amos has risen up to become one of the most recognisable faces of the elusive group and one of the more popular members of the Council. Seen as a man of high morals and justice Amos has a reputation of integrity and loyalty to the people that is quite unknown to most of the public. However, as a wearied man that has battled his way up the ranks it would be a surprise to anyone if he has no hidden agenda.

Amos was born and raised in The Land within the Pariah Bay. There he saw much horror and experienced the injustice the poor have to deal with on a daily base. Vowing to himself that he would make the difference Amos gathered up a group of friends to police his neighbourhood. It gained him much attention and soon enough the Inquisition extended him and his friends an invitation to bring justice as a Cloak. This was the start of a flourishing, but lonely career.

It was as if Amos was made to be a Cloak. As if the Inquisition existed for people like him to work. While most of his friends fell, falling down to either death or corruption, Amos went on only seeing ahead. By forty he was already favoured so much and ranked high enough that he earned himself a place in The Sky. A honour for all that had made him become the man he was. Years after he got himself voted into the Council, where he soon managed to gain himself a reputation as someone that understands the needs of The Land and as a counsellor to the Inquisition. He never gave himself the time for love and family, too focused he was on work. This was much to his own regret as he does adore children and the thought of having someone to continue his legacy. It wasn’t meant to be, however and that is where he will leave it at with his old age.

Appearance: His appearance speaks for his character. A stern upright man with a caring heart. With pale grey eyes and a scarred face one recognises the hard labour of the Inquisition in his features as well, each line telling another story. It is proof of his hardworking character, how he grew up from the slums of The Land to join the elite in The Sky. Amos is surprisingly short and stocky in build, which one doesn’t expect seeing the authority and pride that seeps out of his person. It is a point of hilarity amongst his friends and fellow Council members, as he is like the thumb of the hand; always too short, but never useless.
