Hey I'm totally not late to the party. 2nd character GO:
Name: Mona Merricks
Age: 16
Sex: Female
Gender: Female
Position: Student
Class: Martial Artist
Race: Human
Appearance: (Temp picture)
Personality: Mona is a bit of a sluggish brute at a first glance. She isn't the brightest bulb there is. She's the type who doesn't like to be rushed and takes the world around her at face value. Usually found with a blank expression and lost in her own world, she has a bad habit of shuffling her feet when she walks and sways to and fro hunched over from years of poor posture. Mona isn't too fond of helping others or being social, leaning towards isolation over interaction. Not being the talkative type, she has a very ho-hum attitude when dealing with others, usually responding with a short nod or a few short comments. With her one track mind, she undertakes her tasks with razor sharp focus, but becomes flustered and stuck when she has to multitask and divide her attention. When she faces problems or arguments she can't overcome, she finds that the simplest solution is to either punch it out or walk away and just give up, since words and dealing with simple niceties doesn't make too much sense to her.
Mona shows no real reaction except when she's either in the ring, or magic is involved. Due to her past, she has a strong aversion to the supernatural, and strangely enough, magic has an aversion to her. To her, magic is like mold: gross, invasive, and best out of sight. Mona is heavily prejudiced against magic, believing it all to be fake witchcraft, curses, and dark arts; nonsense, never having encountered true sorcery. All in all, as long as it doesn't touch her, she won't touch it; but God help you if you force it onto her.
She keeps her mop of hair short in a pixie cut for convenience and stands at 5"5' when not slouching. She sports a slew of torn, two-sizes-too-small hoodies that she outgrew years ago and is seen with comfortable, baggy sweat pants. Finding clothes too restrictive, she wears her goodwill hoodies overtop her unwashed wife beater, or on days when she's practicing in the ring, her sports bra and jersey shorts.
History:
Mona grew up with a pair of very cheery yet horribly gullible parents who were crazed fanatics of the dark arts and mysticism. Ever since she was a young child her house was crowded with mountains of dusty, dream catchers, and shrunken heads bought off craigslist and assorted garage sales. Raised in an environment where the occult is the norm, her first few days of school were terribly embarrassing. She walked through the front doors of her elementary school covered in demonic fetishes, otherworldly necklaces, and a charm bracelet of human finger bones, and because of them, was horribly mistreated by both the staff and her peers. After returning home with a black eye and bruises, her parents noticed that somebody had scratched Mona's petrified eyeball earing and immediately took her to the local fortune teller for guidance. Armed with her magical $16.99 lava lamp, the mystic lazily muttered that the cause of her being bullied was the result of "being born under a foreboding star; casually waving her hand in the air while texting under the table. Having heard something similar on a Yahoo Answers forum, Mona's parents were brought to tears fearing the worst for their poor daughter. At once, against Mona's will, they embarked on a cross-country journey in the family van to search for a cure to rid Mona of the terrible curse.
For two years they travelled all across North America, and for two years Mona was without friends or schooling— growing colder and more withdrawn with each moon. They traveled to psychics, palm readers, stage magicians, party clowns, anyone who had a claim to fame in the world of wizardry and the unknown. It wasn't until Mona was 11 years old that they came upon a single rickety shack along a cliff side. When approached, the mysterious hermit who lived inside chose not to leave the doorframe. After hearing their story of woe, out of either pity or annoyance, waved his hand across young Mona. With a long incantation that rang through the air, he told the family that they would not have to fear for their child any longer. Not even the stars nor heavens above would graze her skin—warded from the prying eyes of forces both known unknown. Believing their two year quest to be over from hearing such comforting words, they returned to their home, only to find the place foreclosed; their time away had left the house in shambles and their taxes unpaid. All of the junk they had hoarded all their lives were sold or thrown out by the auctioneers, and poor Mona, still wearing the same clothes she had on when she left her home, was sent to a foster home.
Since then, Mona decided not to let the obviously fake ramblings of "magic" and "curses" to tell her what her life will be. Instead, she began down a path of physical training, learning Mixed Martial Arts and learning to take control of her future. Her performance in school however, already 2 years behind, as she never learned to bounce back academically and was kicked out of most every school she was transferred to. Now, at the ripe age of 16, Mona just received an invitation to join a school in a far off land. Having all the expenses being paid, Mona said goodbye to her foster parents and is now moving on to join NLA, unaware of the magic and mystery to come
Other:
From that chance meeting with the powerful mage, which she barely remembers, Mona has been protected by an unusually powerful magic suppression field. Reaching only up to half a foot from the edges of her body, it is capable of suppressing, but not destroying, magic that enters its aura. For example, a magically created gust of wind would not bend around, but would instead create a pocket around her where she would not be impeded by the gust nor feel the effect of the wind. However, if the powerful gust blew a rock towards her, the rock would most definitely hit her, since the rock was not magically conjured or enchanted in any way. While Mona would not be able to feel the heat or be able to touch a magically produced fire, a flame from an ordinary lighter could easily burn her.
If she were to enter a magical zone, the area in her immediate reach would quickly pop to its original form before it was magically enhanced, and when she leaves, would return to normal as if nothing happened.
The specifics that her magic suppression field effects includes, but is not limited to: magical detection, divination or scrying; magically conjured spells or monsters; and supernatural abilities such as self-enhancing power-ups or transformations.
While her suppression field may do wonders to guard her against the perils of magic, she is still left with only her martial arts skills for her offense.
