[ Áki Hon | Vessel of The Nine Tails ]
[ Empire of Akino | Konohagakure ]

The sound of sparks and electricity filled the room he was sitting in. He was trying to practice molding his chakra in his down time, but he had some issues trying to focus on it. A loud pop filled the room and Áki stopped, laying down on his back and staring at the ceiling of his room. His thoughts were swirling around without a pause. He closed his eyes and stretched his arms out, than sprawled on the floor motionless.The Empress herself will train me at one point and I cannot even probably mold my chakra, he frowned at the ceiling.She will be sooo pleased, he thought to himself as he clenched his hands into fists and sat up.

He took several deep breaths and closed his eyes.Focus, he reminded himself as he started again. He focused on his chakra only and tried to push everything else out of his mind. His brows furrowed slightly as he focused, and the sound of electricity sparking around his fingers filled the room again. Maintaining his breathing, Áki tried to keep it at the state it is - where he was still in control of it. But despite his best efforts, he couldn't maintain control and he allowed his chakra to dissipate.What am I going to tell The Empress? That the vessel for a Tailed Beast can't control its chakra properly? Now that will be great, he thought to himself as he rested on his back again.

Then again, I didn't have any problems of this kind before, maybe I'll just need some good sleep, he thought to himself. He let out a sigh and looked at his ceiling again, allowing himself a smile. So much has changed in his life, in a pace he had some trouble keeping up with.Why not allow myself a moment to rest, and with that thought, he closed his eyes again. Perhaps if his training goes well, The Empress will allow him to go and see his mom, even if only briefly. There's so much he wanted wanted tell her and so much he wanted to ask. His smile spread wider as he imagined hearing her voice, getting hugged by her, talking with her.

His daydreaming was interrupted by a familiar sensation of falling though the floor without moving.

[ Sevudia | The Eastern Front ]
[ Hisao Kawata ]
As he waited next to the siege tower that he and his team were assigned to be on, Hisao looked towards the fortress that stood ahead. It seemed well fortified in his opinion. He hadn't had a proper chance to sit down and get to know his new team a bit better, but he did, at the very least, had a chance for a brief introduction session. It wasn't a very long one, but it was better than nothing, certainly.
As they waited for the signal, a horn to be heard, he glanced in the direction of his team members. Yuyuko and Bashira. Both showed potential and good goals to aim for. He hoped they would get to live another day, so he could get to know them a bit better. Perhaps actually start to train them.

Team Kawata's Brief Introduction session!
Several days ago, Jirian Forces Camp, Eastern Front
A Collab between @Sakayanagi Selko , @Lilly and @Nim

Having arrived in the Eastern Front, Hisao summons his new team members, to get to know a bit about them, before giving them a small test. At the end, one of the two gets a surprise, coming from the top.

The trip to the Eastern Front had been a rather tiring one. Sailing, a lot of trekking, and eventually, Hisao found himself there. Two of the genin in the team he was assigned to were already here, while one had travelled there with him. After reporting to the commanding officer above him, Hisao went and arranged his things, before letting his new team know that they will be having a meeting in the following morning.
And today was the day of the meeting. Hisao was sitting on a stump, waiting patiently for his team to arrive. He arranged for the meeting time to be about two hours after dawn, to give his team a chance to properly wake up. He wanted the meeting to be decent, and give the genin a chance to properly introduce themselves, while not being too tired. He considered doing a small test, but Hisao figured he would first see how the first impressions go.

Bashira had to admit that she was slightly furious with their “old sensei” for leaving them in the midst of a war. Why did he even bother to come if he was just going to leave? It irritated her to think about, so instead she thought about who this new sensei could be. She thought about what this new sensei could offer, and wondered if he was going to leave too. Shira took her head, and made her way to the field where the new person would be waiting. Bashira stopped about fifty feet away from the new sensei. She sighed, and briefly looked him over before going the rest of the way. “Hello,” Bashira said, cautiously.

Yuyuko on her part was not surprised but was still annoyed that Karuko was no longer there to help the team as when she heard the news the previous night.
However it did not help that it was just after her recent visit with Alsanna, a visit that while it did give her a new ability to work with was essentially a Joker card ese gimmick where if she used it well, would make her a great asset though in reverse if used wrongly would result in her death.
Not exactly great odds but better than before where she did not have much in the way of other rank and file anyway as she shook herself away and leaving her mask as she felt she no longer needed it as Yuyuko walked to the location meet the new team members that was to take over. It did not take long as Yuyuko arrived after Bashira did while shaking off the memory of what happened recently and bowed respectfully.
"Hello, umm. You are the new sensei, right, I am Takeda Yuyuko, pleased to be working with you."

Watching as Bashira arrived, he gave her a nod as she arrived, intending to wait for the second teammate before he’ll begin speaking. Hisao could tell she wasn’t entirely content with the new situation. He couldn’t say he was exactly content with being on the war front, but that’s what he got.
As Yuyuko arrived, Hisao gave her a bit of a closer watch. Something about her told him she wasn’t entirely fit, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. If there was something beyond just being tired, then he couldn’t see it immediately. After she bowed to him, he gave Yuyuko a nod as well, before standing up.
”Morning to both of you. As you both heard, your previous team leader had been replaced with me. I don’t know the reason, and none of us should really care. We’re now together in the team, that was what the brass elected was right to do. Now, to move onto the main point of this meeting, being introductions.”

Taking a couple of steps to the right of the stump, Hisao cracked his neck ”I’m Jounin Hisao Kawata. I specialize in fighting with a Kama, and have access to Earth and Wind techniques. Now, for your introductions, I want you each to give me your names, and what you specialize in. Finally, also let me know if either of you have any goals you aim for. It will make setting up training sessions for you more efficient if I know the goals.”

Yuyuko nodded as she listened to the Jonin's matter-a-fact way to informing them of Karuko's transfer while trying to shake away last vestiges of annoyance of Karuko's departure.
Between the 2 Jonin she served under, Kukiko to her seemed like someone who had alot of personal baggages but wanted to learn more about her. Perhaps even someone who she could learn under for other ninjutsu though Karuko on his part was more similar to bad mouthed and sarcastic jonin who at least she knew Karuko could also train her up, granted with a certain coldness but that was after she got past the bad mouthed part...and Karuko's perpetual drinking.
In Hisao's case, he seems to be all business and at least was professional, at least something she could work with as she decided to go first.
"I guess i will go first, Yuyuko Takeda, daughter of the Kendo teacher and former samurai Masakage Takeda. I mostly specialise in Kenjutsu...and i guess am a slightly better than average shot with shurikens and kunais due to practicing with flicking pebbles due to hearing one of Father's war stories of a foe who he had trouble fighting due to that foe's pebbles being flicked at his eyes limiting his movements. Other side note is i have lightning affinity and for a goal, i want to try to improve on my lightning techniques so i can also further improve on the Juinjutsu technique the ninja, Alsanna used on me called 'Hex, the Storm's mirth. In our test when the jutsu activated, my abilities were improved vastly after it expires, it left me tired and out of chakra...so i wish to try to improve it to the point in can mitigate the ability's damage to me...or improve it in anyway i can."

She listened to the new jounin, Hisao Kawata, and what he specialized in. Shira nodded as she listened to Yuyuko explain her specialties and goals. It made sense, but the storms mirth made her nervous. It seemed like a foolish risk to just improve one’s jutsu. After a second, Bashira sighed and decided it was her turn-- even though no one else was left to go. “I’m Bashira Tanaka, and I specialize in medical ninjutsu with long range attacks. Before Karuko-Sensei left we started working on the bow and arrow, and I have been training with it for a little while now. I can hit almost anything with my senbon, and my goal is to be a good support for the team. I would also like to one day get a bird as a summons because I think that would be useful,” Bashira said. Then something occurred to her, and she said, “you never told us your goal.”

Listening to Yuyuko, Hisao kept a calm expression. It was a good background to have, though he wondered about that Juinjutsu technique she mentioned. If he will work with her on it, then he’ll need to see better first hand what it exactly means. Though he did figure it also explained well what felt a tad off about her when she arrived. Likely remnants of the side effects from this technique.
When Bashira spoke up, he turned his full attention to her. Medical shinobi were always good to have, and one that wanted to be a ranged support as well was a smart choice too. It was also a fine goal to have. Small goal to reach as a first step, then he could likely try and push her towards a bigger goal.

Bashira brought up the fact he did not mention his goal, and Hisao nodded ”Indeed, I haven’t mentioned it. You both answered honestly and I certainly appreciate it. I’ll give you both a single question to ask me, but I’ll also give you my goal for free. My goal is to serve the country to the best of my capabilities. Now, this means lead this team and train you two. That is why I asked for your goals.” Hisao told them.
”We won’t have a lengthy meeting today, but I do have a couple of training exercises planned. To let me get an estimate of where you stand with your skills. It’s less about ninjutsu today and more about your physical capabilities.” Hisao let them know.
Moving back to the tree stump, he put two kunai on it.

”You two have the entire length of the training session to think about a question for me, no need to ask it right away. Now, first training exercise. You will both move to the tree across from the stump,” Hisao pointed at the tree he referred to ”And when I give the signal, you will both make a dash to the stump, each grab one of the kunai, and then throw it at the tree you just ran from. The closer you are to hitting the exact middle of the tree trunk, the better.”

Yuyuko on her part did a surprised blink as it was only when Bashira brought it up that she realised that Hisao did not explain his goal. Luckily he did not hide it and it was relatively simple, straightforward and respectable though the question that she was to ask threw her off as it came out of the blue. Whatever the case is, at least she had the end of the session to figure that out as then came the explanation for the training, simple but probably not the only one as she exercised her body keeping her eye on the kunai and the tree, confident that she can at least have a good accuracy with her throw but also reminding herself not to be overly confident.
"Understood, Hisao sensei, i am ready for your signal."

She listened as Hisao-Sense explained their task, and found herself a little intrigued as it was not a simple accuracy test. This was going to see if they could get close to the mark while moving which was a little harder. Her hand slid down to the pocket where her senbon were at, and for a brief moment she thought it would be no different, but then she remembered that the kunai was heavier than her sembon. As for her question, well she supposed she had the entire length of the field to think of a suitable one. “Alright,” Bashira said after a moment, trying to think of the best way to tackle this task.

Watching as the two went to the indicated spot and gave their affirmation, and seeing how both seemed to decide to think about a question for longer, Hisao nodded. He would proceed to stand on the opposite side of the stump from them, crossing his hands, before finally calling out ”Start!”. He wondered if either of them would understand what the test was meant for.

Shira sprinted from her spot near the tree, pushing past the small ache in her muscles. She must not have been doing enough exercise if her muscles ache even a little from this exercise. Once she grabbed the kunai, she slowed her movements in order to throw the kunai with better accuracy. She threw it straight at the middle of the trunk, and held her breath as it soared through the air. The kunai hit the trunk an inch from the middle, and she bit her lip even though it was not terrible. Bashira felt she could do better, but for now she would get out of Yuyuko’s way, and see how she does.

Yuyuko on the mark ran forwards at Hisao's signal though she was not very fast.
However she felt perfectly fine if not a little tired as after shaking off any other thoughts along with any tiredness that maybe a side effect of Storm mirth.
With that, she took off at Hisao's signal focusing on the objective, her muscles unlike Bashira did not ache at all though her speed was around the same as her team-mate as Yuyuko seemed to be trying to pace herself. In a few short moments, she pulled up the kunai at the stump and in that same motion with a quick flick threw it just ahead of Bashira's Kunai. Luckily it was not a bad throw as it hit the stump right in the middle though it was not perfectly center, the kunai lodged in at certainly not straight angle but luckily the weird angle meant her kunai did not get knocked off by Bashira's own kunai. With that, Yuyuko let out a breath as she turned to see how Hisao would grade the both of them.

Observing silently as both followed the instructions and managed to hit the tree trunk with good accuracy, Hisao went and looked closer at the kunai, before taking both out ”You both have good accuracy and appear to be capable of utilizing tools well, even after running. That is well, but it was done without any risk.” He said, and put the kunai back in his pouch. Forming a few seals and touching the ground, the earth in front of him would rise, until it formed an earth golem that was half of Hisao’s size. The golem stood on 4 feet, appearing like a very round yet large dog.
Moving back to the stump next to the two genin, Hisao sat back down ”I’ll have you both repeat the same instructions. This time, however, your target is the golem, and you use your own tools. If you can cause any kind of damage to it, then you pass. But you only get one throw. Also,” He glanced at the two genin ”The golem will be coming after you. If it reached you or the stump, you failed. Now go set up. When you hear my call, you go.”
Without telling them anything further, Hisao would whistle to the golem, who would move to stand between the stump and the tree, about half way, and seemingly prepared to try and tackle anyone that came close to him.

She listened, and nodded while he explained the next task they were to do. A bit more challenging than the last one, but not impossible to do. Her senbon would not do a thing to the golem, but her bow and arrow would. Bashira sighed, and began to prepare her bow first by practicing with the drawstring in a few quick repetitions before she felt like she had prepared. The ache in her muscles had subsided, and it was probably due to inadequate stretching before hand so this time she stretched for about a minute before she signalled that she was ready to begin.

Yuyuko on her part breathed in slightly as she heard what Hisao said which made her alittle worried as she honestly had not perfected her chakra sabre enough to be confident to try using rupture. And another small problem was that she only got 1 shot, that means she could not afford to play around using pebbles but for shurikens, she doubted it be enough to fully down the golem which left her to choose between her sword which needs to hit on the blade side or else a kunai.

As the two went and prepared for the next challenge he presented to them, Hisao wondered if either of them were thinking about what this was supposed to represent. Once both gave a signal that they were ready, the jounin closed his eyes, before calling out ”Go!” Just as before. The golem, in response, would also take a step towards them, preparing to jump on whichever tried getting too close to it.

With that signal, Yuyuko breathed unsheathed her sword as she whispered to Bashira."I will lure it sideways, use that chance to get around to the stump, once you do, let me know and i will try to get a clear shot for you as i to get the stump to hit it."
Yuyuko said as she dashed forward while also heading rightward so that if the golem would jump her, it would be forced to jump sideways and take it's eyes of Bashira so that the bow user could make a dash for the stump.

Bashira grinned, and waited until Yuyuko was in range of the golem before she took off towards the stump with her bow ready to fire. The second the golem turned towards her teammate, she went around in a wide arc while heading for the stump. Shira took aim at the golem as she ran towards it only feet away from the stump as she fired her one and only arrow at it. “I’m at the stump,” Shira called out to her teammate. The arrow flew straight at the golem’s side as it was the easiest to hit, and it clinked against the rock knocking off a piece of rock. Bashira then turned towards Yuyuko, and ran to take position behind her as the golem came after them both now. “I got you covered,” she said, ready to support her teammate.

Their strategy had worked, and Yuyuko moved close enough to the golem to cause it to jump in Yuyuko’s direction, trying to take a mid-air swipe at her, but missing as it landed behind her. The arrow that hit it afterwards, while taking out a small chunk of it, didn’t seem to bother it one bit as it made another jump towards Yuyuko.
Hisao, in the meanwhile, kept sitting on the stump and watched as Bashira arrived at his spot and took her shot. Bow and arrows, like she had mentioned before, and she seemed to have good strength to be capable of properly wielding a bow. After she took her shot and the golem seemed to still focus on Yuyuko, Hisao made a whistle, causing the golem to stop in its tracks.

”Alright, I’ve seen and heard enough. Even if you didn’t finish it, you passed the test. That was the kind of plan I was hoping to see.” Hisao stated as he stood back up, walking to the small dog golem and glancing at the missing chunk before looking back at the two genin ”Although it isn’t always recommended to do so, you made a good decision for what your objective was and how many enemies you faced. Unfortunately, my golems are dumb so they wouldn’t notice losing a bit of themselves. But you can be certain that in an actual case, a person would notice being hit from behind and potentially change their target depending on how things were.”
He made the boar seal, which caused the golem to crumble away ”Now, there are still a couple of points I’ll want to bring up with each of you, but overall, you did well. I’ll go over the points in a bit, but first, if you have a question for me, now is the time.”

Bashira lowered her bow, and took a deep breath when the golem stopped. She looked to Yuyuko, and asked, “are you alright?” She was prepared to step in as a medical ninja if her teammate answered no. She listened as Hisao-Sensei told them they had passed his test, and inwardly smiled at how well they had worked together. Shira stood there for a moment, and tried to think of a question. She was curious as to what the point of the test were. The first he had said something about tools, and this one seemed a little unclear. There were two of them, and one golem while the golem was formidable in some ways it still required them to work together to accomplish the task. “Ok, this last test. The purpose was to test our teamwork while trying to reach a point under fire from the enemy?” Shira asked. She paused only for a moment before adding, “and you still did not tell us your goals. What are your goals for this team?”

Yuyuko on her part took a moment to catch her breath as the genin answered Bashira that she was alright as luckily, the test ended quickly enough for her to not have been injured by anything.
With that, the genin nodded hearing Hisao's review of the situation, this at least gave Yuyuko some relief as it meant the two made some correct choices, granted it also meant Yuyuko would need to prepare to be alot more careful due to wanting to stay alive while getting as strong as she could as quickly as she could. Now came the part where she could ask Hisao a question, at least something that would be on her mind at the time.
"I guess if i had to think a question to ask, how much did the previous war affect you...the one which father was a part of before he became the kendo instructor since...between him and you who seem to at least be taking the remnants of it well, sensei Kukiko seem to be really scared of something while Karuko….i am not sure how to put it so i figured i might as well ask you about it."

Listening to all three questions from the two genin, Hisao frowned, before beginning to speak ”The purpose of the last test was indeed to see how you will work together when facing an enemy that stands between you and your destination. The moment you worked together to have one reach and then aimed to distract, you passed. It was a test to help me evaluate how much focus on teamwork I will need to have with the two of you.” He answered Bashira’s first question, before turning to look at Yuyuko ”I was enlisted to the shinobi corps at the time of the war. That’s how it affected me.” Hisao answered Yuyuko’s question briefly.

Without answering Bashira’s second question about the goals, Hisao continued on ”This introductory session is now over. Bashira, you are free to go and attend to any other duties you have in the camp for the day. Yuyuko, before you leave,” Hisao said, making sure she’ll stay ”Following determination from the brass back home, you’ve been promoted to Chuunin. This promotion is something you should not take lightly. It means you have more responsibility for your own actions, so you could face bigger punishments for them or be better rewarded. When we return home, you will receive the Chuunin flak jacket. Congratulations.” Hisao let her know, before dismissing her as well.

Yuyuko on her part shook her head as Hisao dodged her question by generalising his answer as she admitedly wanted to know more about how the war felt aside from just being enlisted into the shinobi corps, however it was by all accounts an answer, though not the answer she was looking for but at least better than her team-mate whose question might as well been swept under the rug.
Also she noted Hisao's review which at least was satisfactory to some degree though when she was asked to wait a moment before leaving, it caused the genin to raise an eyebrow in surprise as it was something she did not expect, along with the next shock that she was promoted to Chuunin.
While it was a news of celebration, Yuyuko did not felt she deserved it yet even though the brass felt she did, as her father had instilled a sense to personally evaluate oneself so she would not become complacent. But luckily, he did leave a clause that meant she would need to hold herself to her standard of a chunin to prove to herself that the choice to promote her was certainly not a mistake and that she did deserve it.
"Thank you, Hisao Sensei, i will keep that in mind and will look forward to recieving my flak jacket when we return home."
She said unsure of how to react as she bowed and headed off, quietly thinking of what duties she had for the day.

Bashira simply nodded as she had over thought the point of the exercise, and then turned to go without another word even as she heard Yuyuko being promoted to Chuunin. She simply did not care about nor wanted to speak on the matter with either of them. Shira would go and do another bit of patrolling before she would do some general exercises to keep herself in shape.
------------------------------------------------------------

The wait wouldn't be too long, and people started getting onto the siege tower, preparing for when the horn would be heard. Hisao made sure Yuyuko and Bashira were still relatively close to him. Even if he knew it would likely be very chaotic and impossible to easily reach them once the fighting started, he still wanted to ensure that at the very least, they would be in close enough proximity so that he could try and still keep an eye out for them.
He also wanted to ensure they both followed the rules that were given to them. Even if one of them were promoted, both were still his responsibility. Hisao knew well that should either suddenly resorted to any type of ninjutsu, the whole team would suffer for it. And because he hadn't gotten to know them well yet, he wanted to keep a closer eye on them.

The horn was heard, and Hisao felt as the Siege tower started moving forward. Now, there was only a fight for survival ahead. A fight to live another day.

[ The Battle of Jinseong | Sevudia, eastern continent ]
[ Hiron Hon | Major General of the 3rd Division | Squad lead of Team 9 ]
[ The 3rd Imperial Division of Akino facing off against a Rongese army ]

Many officers were gathered as the camp was in a seeming uproar. The dark clouds in the sky did little to showcase any good omen. Yet, Hiron seemed in an excellent mood as he stepped out of his tent. A big grin decorated his features as he rested his gaze upon the collection of officers, ranging from captains to higher-ranked among the forces that followed his commands.
For a moment, Hiron's mood did plummet. It wasn't noticeable to the others but for a second, Hiron couldn't repel the question that shot through his mind. What would have Hisoka done? Of course, Hiron knew the answer. His old leader would have stood proud and with that obnoxiously annoying confident stance - that seemed to be unwavering no matter the odds. Speaking calmly and addressing his subordinates with a clear attitude that spoke loudly that he endured no bullshit.

"Listen up," Hiron raised his voice, the grin of before dawning back on his features. "Today is when we write history, once more. The enemy is with more and thinks we are easily impressed. They have the courage to come at us and face us in battle." Pausing, Hiron saw the tense expressions of the younger officers, that lacked enough experience of how key-battles like these were handled. He could detect that they were searching for some meaning or support from him at this moment.
"I say," Hiron's tone betraying his amusement as he spread his arms wide, "let us give them a reason today to avoid us in battle! I want them to learn and know what kind of bastards we are. That we relish this chance of crossing blades! No more hiding and glaring into the shadows. No more small skirmishes over this or that place. No," letting his arms hang, Hiron's expression hardened as his tone started to become more fueled by anger. "Today is a day of bloodshed. I want everyone to put these Rongese bastards down. No blade is to remain clean. No sword arm to remain fresh. We are going to give them a good reason to dislike and fear us."

Several of the officers started to pound a fist against their chest. Soon enough all of them repeated the motion, causing a sound and atmosphere that was whipping them up in a near frenzy.
"You all are aware of the plan. We are to keep the enemy occupied with the 10th and 12th brigades. The Senju will perhaps prove their damn if they can hold off the enemy at the flank. And then the 11th brigade will hit those fuckers in the back. Do beware," Hiron said as he took a step closer to the officers, who became silent again. "When they are trapped, they will fight like cornered vermin. But even cornered vermin will fight harder. That is why we will leave a gap open at their back. Let them know that they can try to run. For if we give them the illusion that they can get away from us, they won't be men with anything to lose. They can show their cowardly nature."

Locking his eyes with several of the leaders, Hiron felt content as he saw their determination. Spreading his arms once more, his grin returned.
"Let us not tarry longer, gentlemen. To battle."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Soon enough in several hours, several Imperial Akinian units stood ready. The west to their back, to their home, as they stood against the horde that would gather on the horizon. Their steel, flesh and courage is the only tangible line of defence against the bastards and monsters that threatened their homeland. Today, it didn't matter who was Taika, Yakimara or Chonobi. The sense of unity against the dreadful serpent decorated banners was bringing them all together as brothers and sisters.
The thundering roars of horns and drums in the distance did little to bring fear or hesitation to the Akinians, who stood their ground. More of the 10th and 12th Imperial brigade mustered at the wide crossing.

Walking on foot, Hiron took in the air. He had forgone the need to be mounted on a horse. While a capable rider, Hiron had a dislike to fight on horseback. The advantage of horses was one thing but he found it an absurd idea that he had to be carried into a fight. No, he wanted to feel his boots on the ground as he would batter his enemy into the ground.
Resting his right hand on the head of his axe, Hiron peered at the distance. The enemy was ready themselves but would take the bait? What if they weren't going to attack?
The questions troubled Hiron for a moment but he had a plan if the Rongese weren't going to act upon his 'humble invitation'. Eyeing the crossing, it wouldn't allow the entire army to cross it without problems. But enough to funnel allies or opponents to neutralise some of the enemy's numerical advantage.
"Fucking lunatics," Hiron grumbled as he noticed something strange among the enemy. Bald men in robes walked in front of the enemy line, causing the enemy soldiers to kneel and apparently pray. Disgusted to his core, Hiron had to keep himself under control to not cross the river and start butchering them right away.
Throwing a look over his shoulder, the troops behind being part of Captain Drest's unit. Among them, he recognised a few faces. It was perhaps unorthodox for a commander to favour a simple unit over that of an elite first cohort. But Hiron had his reasons as he crossed his sight with Kyoi Huuyga, Shikaroka Nara and others of Team 9.

Perhaps this was the time for another grand speech, Hiron thought to himself. He felt the gaze of hundreds upon him. The desire of others wanting him to be the rock that they could rely on. It didn't bring any despair on Hiron. It emboldened him in a way, a way that he couldn't convey in mere words.
Pulling out the axe from the ring it rested in, Hiron gripped the handle firmly. He shouted as loudly as he could, using all his strength.

"Not one step back."

Gripping his shield, he slammed the steel head of the axe against the boss of his shield. Repeating the words, he kept shouting the words as loudly as he could as others started to follow him. It wasn't certain if it was Hiron's willingness to defy the larger enemy force or the eagerness of the Akinians but soon enough, many more joined their leader. Halting as he wanted to conserve his throat, Hiron nodded slowly upon the sight and ambience of the frenzied atmosphere among the Akinians. Now, this was going to be a good day to avenge his family upon these Rongese. And protecting the only daughter on this damned globe in the way he could.

"Fly little raven. And do come back to me."

[ Aiko and Kazumo ready themselves for what is to come. Bidding each other good luck, Aiko pulls one more trick on Kazumo as he has to deliver a speech. Afterwards, the two of them head off to do their tasks. ]

The entire camp was suddenly in an uproar. Contingents of troops were readying themselves as camp aids were helping with preparations for what seemed the largest operation that the 11th brigade had been on. Despite dark clouds gathering in the sky, the atmosphere and morale seemed to be most positive - a tangible tension that seemed to whip up nearly everyone to grab a weapon to fight the enemy.
Officers started to gather near Aiko’s tent, their armour donned on as many held their helmet underneath an arm. Even their murmuring had some excited anticipation as if they could barely contain their eagerness for battle and learn what the instructions were for today.

Sheathing her sword into the scabbard, Aiko would once more check her gear. While she had some military experience, she had never worn the armour that she had decided for today. The half cape that hang over her left side was in the traditional colour of the Cho clan of slight pink to purplish, adorned with white stripes. Her armour was quite Chonobi in taste and appearance, though lacking the mythical taste and need for fur. The scale and chainmail layers of armour caused a soft but noticeable sound as Aiko spread her arms, revealing her kit to the only other within the spacious tent.
”What do you think?” She asked, a smile crossing her lips, ”I always wanted to wear scale mail. And this half-cape?” Almost as if she was an excited teenager for her first flower festival, Aiko fluttered the cape. ”I was somewhat skeptical but it really seems to grow on me.”

If he was right this would be his actual first battle experience. Operations were one thing but a battlefield? Well that was a whole new story, one that made a once more calm camp turn into a state of frenzy with the imminent clash. Outside the tent started to get even more noisy which made sense as they were awaiting their commanding officer for the battle. Kazumo chuckled a bit when she showed it off to him asking for his opinion on what she was making it out to be an evening attire.
”You always wanted to wear scale mail? What was stopping you before. Yet it fits you well, mostly the cape. It looks pleasing, which means the enemy will be in a state of shock when you start cutting them down one by one.” Kazumo stated while he himself was donned in the typical gear of the Gwade Rangers while he kept some personal touches. Such as the Cho arm guards that Aiko had given him a while back.

”I honestly,” pressing her fists against her hips as she observed her kit again, ”don’t know, for sure. I think it may make some sound. But it perhaps makes stealth a bit more of a challenge. Which is honestly a good thing.” Turning her attention to Kazumo, she started to smile even more.
”You look like you are ready to start your own saga. Oh, it is a proud day when a young man goes to his first battle.” A playful wink followed as Aiko did eye Kazumo’s kit with more concern but seemed to be content once she was done.
”So, are you nervous for today?”

Kazumo gave a smile but a confused look. ”You plan on sneaking around in that? Oh you have to teach me that skill for sure.” he joked as he smiled at her comment as he gave a small shrug. ”You know. I never truly thought about it honestly. I should be worried but I’m not worried about myself but for others. Some of them have children waiting for them back home. So it’s…. weird I suppose. ”

”True. I honestly find myself sleeping really well for a fight like this. Granted,” Aiko chuckled, ”I don’t have that much personal experience leading them. But there are plenty of people who are worried about you. And just think about it this way. If you are death, then you can’t protect others. So first make sure that you don’t wind up as a casualty. Then you can worry about others, okay?”
Ruffling his hair briefly and pulling him in a hug, Aiko felt her own heart skipping beats. Masking her fears and worries, she would not burden Kazumo with them. Planting a kiss on his head, she threw a glance at the opening of the tent as she gently released her pupil.
”Not to mention, the worst. Speeches. Dreadful affairs. I hope you’ll have an easier time when it is your time to lead others into battle.”

He gave a soft smile at her subtle worrying about his own safety. ”I’ll be fine trust me. You’ve seen how capable I’ve become, that and I know for a fact if you thought I was in any real danger. I would be under your supervision a lot more than Im going to be.” He said and after he finished got his hair ruffled followed by a hug.
”Hey… I’ll be okay I promise.” He said softly, but soon smiled and laughed at the dreadful speech that was expected.
”Well I best learn from a professional while I can, shouldn't I?”

”Indeed. I swear that the heroes of old are growing most envious of the man you have become. Valdar and the other gods will be forever fighting amongst themselves to see you at their side. Though, I hope you will keep them waiting a while longer.” Grinning as he stated that he had learned from the best, Aiko placed a hand at Kazumo’s back as she started to guide him to the outside.
”True. And as you bring it, you can thus address these fine officers.” Aiko whispered to Kazumo as they stepped outside. A large number of captains and higher ranked officers stood waiting for what their brigade general would say. Among them, even Kazumo’s direct superior, who seemed far from surprised upon sighting Kazumo at Aiko’s side.
A tense silence lingered between them as the ambience of the frenzied camp heralded that everyone else was getting ready for the imminent bloodshed.

The heroes of old growing envious of him? He hardly doubted that, they were still far more of a warrior than he could ever be. Yet something felt off… As soon as she started to guide him to the tent, he listened as she spoke and turned his head with a look that shouted shock and betrayal. Him address the officers? Oh gods his superior was among them. Well….. he now felt like this was a hazing ritual of sorts like… what was he supposed to say? They were expecting Aiko to say something not him. He wasn’t getting out of this was he…. Mentally sighing while also mentally shooting a glare towards Aiko who was no doubt probably enjoying herself.

Taking a couple steps forward he could feel a tightness in his throat as he gave a smile.
”Akino Victor, my brothers and sister! Today we give our ancestors up in Lord Akumu’s Hall, a battle for the ages! And a battle it shall be! The enemy thinks they can wear us down with numbers?! Well they obviously never seen that we grow excited for combat! So brothers and sisters! Lets paint the field today in the enemies blood, and tonight we drink in victory! Akino Victor!”

It remained silent for a second, then slowly, one by one the officers nodded and either pounded a fist against their chest or stomped with a foot. The low murmuring among them betrayed an eagerness that they held for the coming fight.
Clearly enjoying herself as Kazumo addressed the officers, Aiko would pass down the instructions for the battle. The plan was simple but it required pristine timing and execution for them to do their part well enough. As the officers would march off to their tasks, Aiko turned to Kazumo. The pain and fear of actually releasing him to head off to his first battle was something that cracked in her expression. There were a dozen words and eventually sentences that rapidly came to mind. Warnings and emotions she wanted to convey. Instead, Aiko flashed a wry smile as she placed a gloved hand behind Kazumo’s head and brought her own forehead against his.
”Fly little raven. And do come back to me.” Stepping back, she playfully once more ruffled his blue hair.

It took a lot of will for him to stand still after that speech, as he could feel his muscles screaming to try and run away from that awkward mess. Thankfully Aiko would give the instructions for the upcoming battle which eased his mind as he could think about that instead of what he just did. Odd how that was more terrifying than the actual battle he was about to be in. Yet Aiko would look at him and bring his forehead to her own telling him to fly and come back to her. Once more his hair was ruffled as he smiled, ”I promise I will.”

[ ”Everyone with me!!! Show the enemy no mercy!! Charge!!!” - General Yuuki ]
[ Preparing, the Jirian army readies for the attack. As the signal resonates through the air, the Jirians surge forwards to claim victory. ]

Today was supposedly the day according to the little wolf, so he made sure all troops were aware of this and to be ready for the signal. For once it came he was not allowing any slacking. He also was feeling a bit stuck in the rut, being commander meant he had specific duties which meant he couldn’t always do what he wished too. Today though, he was saying fuck that. He hadn’t fought anything in months and that was starting to irk him. So today he was gracing the one part of this siege with his personal involvement. The Captains and sergeants had their orders and this wasn’t a complicated battle by any means. If one of them fucked up something this simple? Well they would simply be added to the list of casualties today.

He decided to grace the force at the gates today and as such requested the various military leaders and their troops to meet him at the field onlooking the fort. As such, Kiro stood smiling at the fort with armor on and sword in his hand.

The morning had been quite different. It brought back memories of the past. But nothing that made Nishi waver in her preparation for what she had to do today. Once she was ready with her gear, Nishi didn’t slacken or wait. Her pupils had been given orders where to find her. After all, they had gained some ‘honour’ in being assigned to the unit that the leading commander of the Jirian forces was gracing with his very own presence. Approaching the site where this unit was located, Nishi threw a glance at the distant fortress. Squinting her eyes, the jounin attempted to see if she could see the defenders fervently running over the ramparts - all in order to provide resistance against their imminent attack.
Sighing, Nishi had opted to bring a sword and some daggers - on top of her usual gear. There were barely any regulations on what a Jirian nin could take to a fight like this one. However, Nishi had some past experience in scaling fortifications. Such fights would be close quarters and far from enjoyable.

Having been assigned to the same unit with the leading commander had surprised her, but Hikari believed she was ready to fight as much as she needed. As long as they would be ordered to fight. She didn’t just need to fight to help take over the fort. She needed to fight to both continue working towards redeeming herself, and to show Nishi her own progress with the training she provided her. To show that she started working on not thinking as much.
Walking to the designated spot, Hikari was sporting her own usual gear, with the tanto ready. She considered bringing a round shield, but since she didn’t want to try and figure out a way to carry it without wielding it, as she was not trained with a round shield. So she instead opted to ensure she had a small supply of kunai and shuriken with her.
Arriving at the location, she walked up to Nishi, offering a nod of her head before moving to pay full attention to Kiro.

It seemed like any other day for the medic of the group. No apparent anxiety, a lack of thorough preparation the day before, and of course a surprisingly good night’s sleep prior to the event. When Alsanna was brought to the meeting spot, a mere viewing distance away from the fort, she couldn’t help but yawn as to manifest herself as not so much of a morning person. Her attire was the usual light equipment, although she wasn’t carrying her parasol this time around. Strapped around her torso was a small backpack with a more considerable amount of medical supplies than usual while her hip pouches were dedicated to her custom projectiles. Her long, wavy hair was tied into a bun to avoid any backfiring of any sort.
Hey, hey.” she so nonchalantly saluted those familiar to her with a lazy wave along with her superior’s superior, all while keeping quite the dull stare on her visage. “Anyone see a fuckin’ bear around these parts? Sheesh, I’ve see the biggest- Oh, are you guys staying hydrated by the way?” she so casually ranted and then asked, before chugging a small bottle she had stashed in an extra bag.

The troops were still gathering at a good rate getting into formation as the siege towers were moved closer and closer towards the fort. It brought a smile to him as he took a deep breath in and exhaled. Turning towards the gathering group he spotted one of said officers and walked towards her. Just in time to hear Alsanna’s little rant, which made him stare at her for a couple of seconds before looking at Nishi. He remembered her when he wasn’t an outlaw, what a lovely reunion.
”I trust that you and your unit are ready? For once the signal is made it will be quite chaotic. Also….. I do hope it was noted that any ninjutsu used today that I hear about, will not go unpunished. I don’t need the wolves thinking we're pulling anything.” Kiro stated as his look slowly shifted to Alsanna before returning to a smile as he looked back at the fort. It was slightly hard to tell but you could certainly see figures on the wall getting into position as their numbers grew more and more. Surely they must realize that them staying in this fort was their death. If only he could tell what they were thinking.

Her two pupils arrived and seemed like they were ready for some close quarter combat. Of course, Nishi had doubts how well they would do. But she didn’t consider this a moment to bring anything up. However, Alsanna’s mentioning of a bear being around made Nishi frown. Her lips parted but a voice caused her to shift her attention.
”Yes, commander,” Nishi replied, already a hunch, why she had been approached regarding this conduct. If there was only a Yuki around that could actually take her responsibility, Nishi mused to herself, then there wouldn’t be any reason for this doubt.
Noticing the faint shimmering of steel reflecting the sunlight on the battlements, Nishi wondered why they hadn’t advanced their siege gear. Then something clicked as she caught a better sight of general Yuuki. Her eyes widened as her right hand went to the hilt of her weapon, her hand slightly trembling as her expression hardened.
Only for a few seconds later did Nishi grow calmer as if she had made a decision on what to do.

Alsanna arrived, and made one of her usual remarks. One about a bear this time? Hikari briefly raised her eyebrow, before hearing the commander speak up. Hikari moved to attention as he was next to them, until he moved his gaze towards the fort. Looking in the same direction, she saw how many of the other soldiers were moving onwards, in the direction of the fort. The siege towers seemed pretty impressive in her eyes.
Putting her own hand on the tanto’s handle, Hikari took a deep breath and worked on clearing her head from any distractive thoughts. She needed to make sure she wouldn’t think much, just fight with instincts as Nishi trained her.

The half-Sayyadian was not oblivious to the eyes oriented in her direction. She’d react with her lips pursed and then pushed out slightly to the side in a perplexed pout. “Yeah, yeah, I got the memo,” in turn she gave the boss of bosses a stare of her own, one hand on her hip and the other now fiddling with one of her feather-shaped blades, “boss.” she smiled.
Her gaze veere back to the objective before them. There was little anxiety running through Alsanna’s non-verbal display as her blade juggling didn’t falter one bit, although she made sure to stay a step behind Nishi and Hikari. The medic was the last one in after all. “Nishi,” she called out, pausing for a moment with her eyes narrowed at nothing in particular, “-sensei, to raise our odds of success and reduce the need for me to use the unconventional, touch my arm, pretty please.” although she didn’t actually present her arm when she suggested this, her tone had a tad more weight to it than her initial speech.

Perhaps it was the situation and the fact that they would descend into the hell that was when an army clashed against the fortress defenses but Nishi turned to Alsanna. Where Nishi had always shown a defiance and dislike to be close to her students, she stared at the half-Sayyadian for a few seconds.
"Odd time to hold hands," Nishi stated as she placed her fingers against the arm of Alsanna before pressing her palm gently against the girl’s limb. "I can only hold your arm for so long. If you need to go potty, then best to say so now, sweetie," Nishi replied further, her raised eyebrows betraying her slight confusion and curiosity why Alsanna had made such a request.

You’re too chicken to touch my hands anyway.” she smirked, although it seemed to be more of a distraction as the effects of contact were almost immediate. When Nishi’s fingers posed themselves upon Alsanna’s body for more than a mere fraction of a second, she’d feel an unnaturally harmless jolt of electricity run through her as if she had touched some super-charged balloon or some baby electric eel. The current ran through her being as would normal electricity, entering from one or two fingers, and leaving from the others back into Alsanna. There, she felt as though Alsanna could see far more than she normally could, as if eyes were planted inside Nishi’s being and scrutinized every little detail she could keep hidden via clothing, transformation or even internal damages. They were not FULLY visible to Alsanna, but she definitely felt abnormalities with decent enough detail. “Besides, don’t people consistently piss themselves during these battles anyway?” she smiled.

The sensation did little more than cause Nishi to lock her eyes with Alsanna’s. The frown vanished as something seemed to displease the jounin but not enough for her to lash out verbally or worse at her subordinate. Pulling her hand back, Nishi shook her head lightly.
"No, they piss themselves when they die. Shit as well." Nishi stated with a tone that seemed way too matter of fact. Certainly as Alsanna had sensed something else, that would make the facade that Nishi put up now only seem more clearer.
"Just make sure you don’t die and I don’t need to change your diaper. Or that of Hikari’s."

Alsanna returned the gaze, although it wasn’t as focused or strong as Nishi’s for the brief time that the Jounin stared at her pupil. And when the fixation was broken, Alsanna kept a curious gaze on her teacher’s figure, head tilted with a subtle smirk pushing against the edge of her lips. There was no retort or bantering anymore, the Genin just stared at her teacher, and eventually that smirk melted away for a far more perplexed expression. It got to the point where she was squinting, as if something did not please her in these results. It certainly perturbed the small fry enough to distract her from what actually mattered for a moment.

Her change in posture and look said it all, she remembered him and he remembered her. He just offered a small smile and carried on like nothing had happened. Even despite Alsanna’s and her weird talk right there. He wasn’t an idiot, he knew Alsanna did something chakra related despite how much they were playing it off as her being a baby. Yet battle hadn’t begun so he didn’t care, in fact he was growing a bit restless. He stared at the fort with such a longing look, like he had been deprived of something that was in that fortified structure. Mentally cursing at them taking their sweet time to open the bloody gates already. The towers were ready and only needed to be moved a bit further for them to scale.

The troops were ready and waiting too which caused Kiro to raise his fist into the air to halt any talking. ”Jirians! Heed my words today! Today is the day we show the Akinians and the Dominion that we sharks have finally smelled blood in the water! Today we are no longer treated as a joke and a relic of the sad state we used to be years ago!” Kiro stated as he looked at the large formation of men that stood before him.
”It’s no surprise that our allies care little for our lives. We've been complacent! Needy! We’ve been depending on them to cover our asses! I don’t know about you all, but that makes my blood boil! I refuse to stand behind them any longer! I refuse to thank them for covering what we couldn’t do! I Refuse!”

Kiro looked at them all his gaze moving through the formation as he turned towards the formation. His eyes caught the movement of rapid movement from someone that was speeding along which caused him to smile. Raising his sword up in the air, the gleam of the sun dazzling off it.
”Today we show the world that we sharks are awake and we are hungrier than we have ever been in our lives! Don’t show me anything! Show the enemy! Show our allies! Show them all that nothing will stand in our way anymore!!” Kiro said as horns echoed through the area. ”Everyone with me!!! Show the enemy no mercy!! Charge!!!” Kiro shouted as he pointed his sword towards the fort and began running. The sound of men and women shouting began along with the magnitude of footsteps that seemed to shake the ground itself. This also prompted the Siege towers to move again until the inevitable stop of them meeting the walls.

[ "Stormraven!!!" - Madoc Yamanaka ]
[ The dawn of day brings the imminent clash of Rongese and Imperial Akinians. Having trained and prepared together, Meilin addresses her platoon. ]

There were shouts and a different atmosphere seemed to disturb the encampment. Readying herself in the appropriate gear, Meilin took a second to briefly make a prayer to the gods. Hopefully, this battle would go swiftly and in their favour. She didn’t have much time to ponder or dread what would happen if they were to face a defeat here.
Exiting her camp, Meilin first awoke her sergeants and then collectively with them made sure that the others would be ready. As many prepared for the battle that was to be held today, Meilin released a sigh. In a way, she was looking forward to the bloodshed. A cold anger brewed from her stomach and urged her to stain her steel with as much Rongese blood as possible. But this wasn’t some quick and small skirmish. And frankly, nearly none of her platoon had any experience with such fighting. Hopefully, the training would suffice.

If someone had an excellent mood, it was Dagrún. Quick to equip herself, she seemed most eager for the imminent violence and bloodshed. Waking up some of the troops that were in the platoon, Dagrún was heartless to all that dared to show a slow pace. Kicking their behinds and cursing their names in Chonobi tongue, she would eventually stand with a toothed grin at the ready. Holding her shield with her left, her right hand rested on the head of her axe - which she had sharpened to the point Dagrún had stated last night she could shave a spider’s arse with it. Regardless if it was true, Dagrún made a silent vow to make an offering to Signý if they would survive this ordeal.

If someone had an excellent mood, It wasn’t Madoc. Grumbling to himself at the new atmosphere that today brought, it only served to make the camp even more hectic than usual. Couldn’t relax even if he wanted to with all this noise. He also saw the scary sight of Dagrún being even more happy than usual. Truly she was a terrifying woman, yet if she wanted to get all excited about violence then he was not going to be the one to try and calm her down. He got his gear together and grumbled even more due to the fact him bringing his daggers, is not very…. optimal for today’s event. It was a nuisance for certain, so instead he had his regular gear plus a spear as he walked his way over to the meeting spot where Dagrún was the ray of sunshine for once. Madoc just looked at her and chuckled.
”Shit not sure what's more scary. The thought of the battle or you smiling like you just had the best night ever.’

"Hahaha," Dagrún laughed out loud as she slammed a hand against Madoc’s shoulder. "The best night is always after a victorious battle! Ye will see!"
Grinning still, she would bring a hand to her lips and position her fingers for a loud whistle - hopefully, catching the attention of the rank and file. "Hear me, ye damned rabble. Whoever is able to stand and hasn’t done poorly will gain some Pinedale Ale. I promise that on my axe!"

Hylli was someone that had been excited for the battle. Inexperienced as she was, her stomach twisting and turning, she saw it as a great chance for herself. The prospect of finally contributing more than some hunts and being safeguarded all the time had perhaps come, at long last. Holding her shield firmly in her hand, she placed the rim on the ground and waited patiently for what was to come. Hearing what sergeant Dagrún shouted at them, Hylli gained a nervous smile. The thought of the sweet ale wasn’t actually half so bad. And the idea of surviving the battle was far from bad, she mused to herself.
What was slightly amusing was the difference in seeing the jovial Tryggve and rather frustrated Yamanaka sergeant. Seeing that she had to wait, Hylli decided to whisper a prayer to Valdar. Perhaps the god of courage would be willing to lend her a bit more for when she was to fight.

If anyone was uncertain about the battle, it was Kuni. She did not know what to expect or think regarding the fact she would be participating in such a large-scale battle. Being equipped with her gear and grabbing her short sword and round shield, she listened to Dagrún as she called out her promise, she slightly wondered what that ale even tasted like. But right now, she felt like she wanted to make sure she’ll put Dagrún’s training and all the drills into practice, and ensure she survives to live another day.

A purposeful calm had overtaken Aoi as she’d geared up. Her armor donned and a sword at her side she now strode up to the rest of the platoon, a grin growing on her face as Madoc seemed miserable as ever and Dagrún revelled in what she could control before everything was left up to the unknown of their imminent combat on the horizon. Coming up alongside Dagrún the blue haired Miyazato tapped a gloved fist on the woman's shoulder and came to a stop, “I’ll take you up on that ale... hell,” she gave Dagrún a smirk as she continued on, “How about, whichever of us takes less of the Rong to the grave gets the ale for the rest?”

"Yer damn right on then," Dagrún replied, her grin growing slightly upon hearing the suggestion of Aoi. "Now ye almost sound like a Tryggve, hahaa!"

Not bad, Mamoru thought to himself as he tasted the tea he managed to brew this morning. The camp was bustling with activity, but somehow he managed to maintain his calm, at least for now. He was sitting near a fireplace in his full gear, this time with a round shield strapped onto his back under Oak.Once I get back, I'll paint that shield of mine with something nice, if I'm allowed, he thought to himself. He closed his bottle and attached it to his waist, looking around.Today's seem to be very important, I'm not sure if I ever saw this camp this busy, he thought with a slight frown, feeling his calm slowly fading.Just remember what Sensei taught you, he told himself as he refocused on his last training with Meilin. Usually, his thoughts before a battle were a swirling mess. But this time, something was different. If his thoughts were a raging sea he had to cross before yesterday's training, the difference he felt today was the presence of a lighthouse.Just focus on that lighthouse, Mamoru, it will be fine, he told himself. Standing up, he quickly made his way to the rest of his unit. An uneasy smile appeared on his lips as he saw them all lined around, one quickly followed by a genuine one.It's good seeing all of you in one piece, he thought to himself as he fallen in line."I can't drink ale, Dagrún, but I'll stand with you until the end. Its good seeing you all again."

The camp had been all anticipated energy since last evening. So much, in fact, that Hideko hadn’t dared sleep, or could not really. She had vague recollections about last night, when the supply corps was busy, so she must’ve fallen asleep somehow. Then again, the boisterousness of the fighting forces, especially those not of the same region as hers, was intimidating. She didn’t put the maille on as that hindered her movements, and was just heavy. But while she was arming herself, she could hear a ton of voices speaking in a language she did not know. Hideko braved herself up and strode outside towards her place, nodding a good-morning to Hylli and Mamoru.

Meilin whistled hard, her fingers at her mouth slowly descending as she noticed that she had the attention of the platoon. The ambience of the frenzy camp around them did little to likely calm their nerves or temper their eagerness. The cold anger that she held for the Rongese was awakening as they were getting close to the clash of steel, courage and blood. But the sight of the group that had poured their trust in her as their lieutenant was enough to calm the beast in her, demanding Rongese blood for what they had done to her family.
"I am not going to lie," she started, shrugging lightly, "a few hours before the first big battle of our lives. All our training and effort, coming down today if we are prepared enough today. Honestly, this is what people call hell."

As the platoon stood in formation, Meilin paced calmly. Her eyes locked with each individual that made part of her unit. "Now we can do two things. We can get the shit kicked out of us. Surrender, try to run. Some already did," she said, reminding them of Orun’s betrayal. "We can do that, live another day. Or," something seemed to change in her tone and expression, showcasing the anger that was boiling inside her.
"Or we fight. We will climb out of this hell together. Refusing to go down as cowards."

Pausing, Meilin wasn’t sure what more she could say. The image of Irene being scared, Hitomo and the others crying were burning in her mind.
"I don’t know what you all fight for. But I know what I fight for. I fight for those who are at home. I fight for the fact that those bastards," her voice cracked as she pointed in the vague direction where they knew the enemy resided, "who hurt little girls and tore boys from their mothers! Who hides behind hostages and wants to see us broken. I don’t know some of you well enough but I refuse to be broken. I refuse to stand down while they laugh at my misery. It is time to fight back."
Nearly shouting the words, Meilin felt like she wanted to run off to already fight the bastards. Looking at the platoon, she tempered her voice and emotions.
"I know I am just one person. I can’t fight those fuckers alone. Neither can Dagrún, nor Madoc. Neither can I just do this with Aoi, Mamoru or Hideko. Together, all of us" Meilin would stand still and with a fist pounded against the shoulder of Hylli, "Together, we will fight for every inch."
Continuing to step forwards, she made it to the centre of the line.

"If you waver right now. If you feel like you aren’t able to fight, then there is no dishonour in admitting that. But allow me to tell you. I have seen enough fights, big as this one and smaller ones. It isn’t the biggest fucker around that just wins. It is the fighter that is willing to claw, bite, spit and die that will win. Don’t think about the fucking empire. We are thousands of miles away from it. Don’t think about just surviving. We all," she spread her arms and a wry grin spread over her features, "are in hell as I said. But I want you to think about those who wait back at home. I want you to remember what those fuckers will do when they get the chance."
Staring straight in Madoc’s eyes, Meilin continued.
"When push comes to shove, I want you all to remember what is on the line. And those who can’t defend themselves are relying on us." Averting her gaze to the others, Meilin waited a second again.

"Now fuck this all and who is ready to make a stand today with me?"

The first to make a sound was Dagrún. Raising the round shield slightly, the blonde Hon slammed a fist against the wood. "Storm-Raven," she shouted, the jovial excitement replaced with a more angry voice as Dagrún seemingly remembered who she fought for. An odd mixture of eagerness blended with the roused frenzy from Meilin’s speech as Dagrún repeated the name and motion, to announce she would make a stand with their lieutenant.

He simply chuckled at Dagrun and Aoi making this into a competition. Seemed like they were getting better already. Then Meilin let out a whistle and began her speech. He listened intently through it all and even though he wanted to run like she said he could, he knew better. Dagrun was the first to initiate her nickname to which Madoc looked at Dagrun and leaned in and whispered in her ear. Dagrun gave a grin and nod and both swooped in and lifted her up and onto their shoulders.
”Storm Raven!!!” Madoc made sure to shout as he raised his free arm in the air.

Hylli pumped her right hand in the air, shouting from the top of her lungs the moniker that she had learned. While not getting the understanding, the speech had lit the fire within Hylli as she did not desire her family suffer at the hands of the Rongese.
”Storm Raven!!!”

Mamoru returned the greeting by a polite bow of his head. Before anything else could happen, a loud whistle silenced the murmuring crowd and his eyes focused on Meilin. From the first words, he felt something within himself. Was it fear, shock, surprise? A mixture of all? I believe Sensei would say that being afraid in this situation is normal - not being is crazy, he thought to himself. Hell. So everything until now was - he did not finish his thought. He touched his face as Meilin talked about surrendering. We've come this far, but it feels like we're still at the beginning. No turning back now, Mamoru thought for himself. Or for Madoc. One never knew with him being around.

Who - what do I fight for? Mom and dad? Akino? My own survival? Questions like this filled his mind. To kill the Rongese? To save our people? His mind was suddenly filled with the atrocities Meilin mentioned and he felt something boiling within him. There's no telling what they might do to The Great Tree. Desecrate it. Burn it. All things he could not allow to happen to it. Up until the point it was being mentioned, he didn't thought about retreating, not once. But now, the idea was tempting.Living another day sounds good. He was ashamed for the thought alone. He looked around him. At Hideko, at Hylli. Turning his head, he saw Dagrún, Madoc, Aoi. I'd rather die in hell with you than live a single second, knowing I wasn't there with you. This is the thought Mamoru fixated himself on. He raised his bandaged harm, clenched into a fist into the air and shouted on top of his lungs."Stormraven!"

[ The Royal Palace, Konohagakure | Empire of Akino ]

[ Kensuke Nimatsu | Scholae ]
[ Kiyomi Homura | Empress of Akino, Kensuke’s favorite person ]

Why didn’t he move just that little bit ahead of the walls? Now he feared that if something went wrong, and he looked at about the right time, he’d see the water move. Dangit. He’d been waiting here for almost an hour now, and he was supposed to leave tomorrow morning. That’d be a night without much sleep then, he feared. But in the end, despite his current position, it’d be worth it. Ah! Finally! He moved closer to a torch that was going out.

Despite that he was invisible, he knew that there were units tasked specifically to uncover him while doing that. Especially when doing this, he reckoned. His chakra nature was in no way concealed, and that was something he couldn’t really fix when visiting the empress late in the evening. So, he had done his best to slip in at the exact moment that the servants of the palace were being replaced, and for some reason he had also hidden his killing intent. Not that that helped much, but you never knew!

Sadly, his ‘operation’ was delayed by half an hour, and he would be on the later end of the evening. That also meant that he would be late for the night’s people shift. Oh well, nothing he could change about that now, he supposed. He manoeuvred himself very lightly and very stealthily across the roofs, and was about to settle down and move into his role as a ‘slightly too late servant’ when he was accosted. Well then. Fortunately he didn’t bring any of his equipment tonight, as he knew that’d be trouble, and raised his hands.

"You caught me. I surrender?" Kensuke said. The assistants of the sensor were of course very surprised. ‘Oh, another individual that seemingly broke the rules’, they had thought. Upon discovering that there was noone at all the first thing they’d thought was that this was another false alarm, but Kensuke’s voice seemed to hint that this was something in between.

"Hmmm." She said, folding through her notes until she found what she was looking for. "Is Nimatsu Kensuke your name?"

"Does this also mean that I don’t get to pass?" He tried, earning him a dejected look. She sighed.

"What are you doing here, what’s going on, and what were you originally trying to achieve?" She said, as if moving down a list she had said a thousand times.

"Well, good for Kiyomi that her guards aren’t being lousy. No." He turned visible, scratching his neck, turning the conversation more pleasant for whoever looked this way. He tried saying this "I was trying to have a secret conversation with Kiyomi before anyone found out. Especially Zakito. I intently told him that I wasn’t going to tell Kiyomi that I was changing missions."

She sighed, again. She also noticed that he wasn’t carrying any real threats with him. He’d even left his katana bundle at home. "Follow me." She said exasperated.

---

As they passed the guarded hallway and were allowed to enter, the Sworn Sword disguised as a servant, led Kensuke into a spacious room. One which easily could hold much more than a single person could ever need or want.
The room was dimly lighted as a few candles burned silently, being the only sources of light this late. Before anything could be said, the door closed as Kensuke was left in the room. From the dark to his left, an audible scoff could be heard. A jolt of lightning crackled, illuminating a most displeased expression from Kiyomi as she sat on a fine piece of furniture. Dressed in what seemed to be a hastily attire, the young monarch gestured to a nearby chair as she spoke up.
"You are an ass.” The tone giving away her irritation that her night’s rest had been disturbed, "Why didn’t you like, I don’t know,” her eyes rolling as she spoke further, "try to meet me in a much better fashion? I have clandestine meetings that were way more favourable than in the middle of the night. In fact,” frowning, Kiyomi continued as her glare became more intense, "I should have you be hang upside down and then flogged by a bunch of servants. With wet towels. Some humiliation might actually do your thick head some good.”

A deep sigh escaped, as most of the frustration seemed to be thrown out. "Now, why did you decide to piss me off?”

He’d smiled all the way through. Ah, how he loved seeing her in a hissy fit like this! It brought him back to old times. Like when she had kicked him in the balls for being a loudmouth. Him! A loudmouth. Glorious. As if that’d happen with anyone else! He was literally the most silent person around.

"Hi!" He said, when she finally was done talking. "That’s an impressive speech there. I like it. I like it a lot!" he joked.

But, as he knew, there was a lot more pressure onto those little shoulders now. An entire empire even. An empire without an heir. Every moment he stole from her right now was a moment Kiyomi would have to stay awake tomorrow. That tempered his good mood somewhat.

"No." He began, revealing the reason why he was here. "I’m changing missions, and," he air quoted, "I’m not supposed to tell you of this, or something, according to Zakito. Ah, shit, I said his name."

A jolt of lightning appeared once more as Kiyomi’s expression stayed sour. The bright force of lethal energy almost jumping over to the coffee table in between the two when Kensuke began to joke. However, Kiyomi stayed silent as she listened to what Kensuke had to tell her or what was seemingly so important that he had to come in the middle of the night.
Frowning when he brought up Zakito, she crossed her arms out in front of her chest. "So? Why then not, you know, be better at hiding and meeting up with me. Without causing me to think how I should have you severely punished for this transgression, which,” she raised her right hand’s index finger, as if she had to gesture him to silence and not try to argue back, "it is! Next time, I will disturb your night’s sleep. Let us then see if you can be so damn jovial.”

Her tone would become more serious as she spoke further. "So, you are here not wanting Zakito to know? Why? Are you still sure that he doesn’t have the best intentions with you or some whack shit? Or is it that you want to surprise him with his birthday? Cause I swear, I will strangle you right here and now if this isn’t serious enough.”

He raised his hands as the message got across. He’d feared as much. They hadn’t spoken in quite a while, and it was showing. Clearly Kensuke and Kiyomi had learned a different reaction under stress. Or rather, had been learned.

"Fine, I’m sorry. I just didn’t want anyone else to know that we have had this conversation. But since I already got caught," he moved his head to the servant who’d brought him in, "That’s almost impossible to hide any longer." He looked at her with a certain sorrowfulness. A time had passed between them, and they had not realised that time had passed. Or rather, he had not realised.

Kiyomi was ready to further lay her fury and frustration out on Kensuke, until he genuinely seemed regretful. Becoming quiet, she heard him further out - not that she would admit that she was curious why he had decided to try to sneak in what was likely the most secure place in all of Konohagakure. Perhaps Akino? Pushing the thoughts from her mind, she laid her focus on Kensuke.
"It is alright, I suppose. Just try to not disturb me in the middle of the night. As for hiding,” she shrugged lightly as if it was that easy to forgive such a heavy transgression that could see another individual being executed on the spot for attempting the same, "the Sworn Swords only answer to me. I suppose that is the benefit of meddling with them. You should have returned to Konohagakure a few months earlier. Then I could have shown you my bruises. Those jerks don’t kid around.” She said, in a half-hearted attempt to lighten the mood and make it clear she wasn’t going to threaten him anymore.

"I’m kind of busy with something that occured when this was still the Fire Union." He threw a look at the servants surrounding them, but they were alone. He had a sneaking suspicion in his mind that they were only hiding, but he quickly banished that thought. "I told him I was going to the East in order to instruct people and fight some shapeshifters there, but the actual reason is something different." He lost control over his hands while he was saying this. "I’m going to visit someone I know from quite a while ago." He threw one more look around, before silently saying, "I’m looking for Ryo Katsu."

When Kensuke brought up the Fire Union, Kiyomi once more found herself confused. Then he dropped a name that Kiyomi hadn’t heard in a while. A name that on its own wasn’t special, there were probably thousands of Ryo’s running around. But the connection from Ryo Katsu to something else was what chilled Kiyomi’s blood.
"And then? Forgive me if I am a bit slow due to being woken up in all of a sudden,” she began, "but why not share this with Zakito? He can probably discover where this Ryo Katsu is?”

"Because he is one of the people that might have to do with it." He simply said. "As much as I want to trust him, I can’t. I need information first. Hence, talking to Ryo. At least, if he’s still alive. Really, the fact that I’m letting you know was already a serious enough matter. And please," He said almost begging, "Don’t tell anyone of this. Or perhaps the people you trust one-hundred-percent."

Placing her feet on the ground, Kiyomi leaned forward as she folded her hands together. Her eyes locked on Kensuke. "You want to go behind the back of some powerful people. Ken, I love you as a brother I never had. I mean it. But you are asking me to withhold information from my second-in-command.” Realizing something, Kiyomi released a heavy sigh as she lowered her head. Her hands briefly ran through her hair as she seemed to consider something.

"That’s fine. I’m only warning you, it’s the absolute top I’m worried about. You don’t get to choose who is in the Ghost ANBU teams if you’re not." He said dispiritedly.

Promise me...

Raising her gaze to meet Kensuke’s, Kiyomi remained silent for a few seconds. "I won’t tell anyone.” She said, though her voice soft, holding a certain firmness. "So, what now? Want me to see what I can discover about a Ryo Katsu? I will need more information than just a name.”

Of course she needed to know more. That was the danger. If he told her, he would have to give up details, even details he was worried about or details that might hurt him. He seemed quite tense when he softly spoke: "Ryo was my squadmate in Team 4. I thought he had died, but recently I met another Ghost ANBU. Tsubasa Kokoro, also part of that same team, who said he was still alive." He breathed heavily. It scared him even to say this much to a person who knew him all this time.

"I can do some digging,” Kiyomi said, unsure how much her words were of comfort to Kensuke. She hesitated for a second but then flashed a disarming smile at him. "Besides, you and I? We have been in worse shit. I just need to figure out how to relay the information over. You,” slightly frowning as she realised he hadn’t told her where he would be going, "said about swapping missions. I could perhaps arrange for you to go to Keishi. Still in reach and without anybody of the court to imagine you digging into something.”

Kensuke was already shaking no before he said it. "That won’t go I’m afraid. Zakito has already sent me East towards the war efforts. Thereby, I know that Ryo is in that region last I heard." He sighed. "I don’t know where exactly, but I’m sure I’ll be able to move around as needed."

The smile of before rapidly vanished. Her eyes briefly widened as she then rose up with the authority and dignity one would expect from an angry but young monarch. "No.” The word escaped Kiyomi’s lips with a trembling voice. "No, you won’t go east. You won’t.” She repeated, as if she had to convince them both that she didn’t like the sound of it. "We can easily send someone else. I got more than enough Sworn Swords. They are easily as competent as you, if not more. I can send a few and we can work this out without endangering yourself on some crazy unknown voyage.”

All Kensuke could do with this display of power was seeing the scared little girl hiding behind those words. "I agreed to it to accomplish my mission. My one true mission." He said resigned. "I’m afraid the matter’s taken out of our hands. Zakito said something of that I’d be a target as well, considering my involvement with you. And you don’t exactly have another legion of guards to spare anymore, now do you?"

Her gaze turned furious as Kensuke spoke further. "Damn the Lord Commander’s balls,” Kiyomi uttered, the phrase followed by more phrases likely unfit for someone of Kiyomi’s stature. "I will fight you.” She suddenly said, as if by some sudden influx, she had gained the resolve to fight him.
"Stand up. I will beat you right here and now. Stand up, Kensuke.”

"Without my blades? I think you’d win, although I can achieve quite a lot with a smashed coffee table." He said as he was standing up. "But really. I like you a lot. Really, I do. That’s something coming out of my mouth, isn’t it? But this is something I have to figure out for myself first, others later."

As he stood, she seemed ready to come at him. Her lips trembled as if she had to fight back something else. The moment that her lips actually parted, a heavy sigh escaped as her expressions shifted. "Please,” the word came out as a soft sound, trembling and betraying her fear. "Don’t go, please.” Though fighting against the burning sensation, a few tears escaped her eyes, flowing defiantly against her desires over her skin.

What a weird sensation. It’s as if he was staring at himself. A more expressive version of himself for sure, for he wouldn’t have even uttered those words. Don’t go. The words echoed inside his head. It was not to be. The choice, if there had been any from the start, had been violently ripped away from them. Actually, eversince Tsubasa told him about Ryo being alive, he had to go see him. There were no buts in this story. So instead, he took her into his arms, and hugged her.

She wanted to deck him in the face. Make it clear why going was bad. Who she had already lost and who she might be still losing if this conflict would drag on further. Yet, all that escaped her were tears and sniffles. Eventually, she buried her face against him, her arms wrapping as much as they could around him. Managing to calm down, she moved her face so that she could speak with being understood.
"You must come back,” she said, her hands clutching the fabric of his clothing tighter. "Promise.”

For a moment, they hugged with all their might. He could hear her crying. There there, he thought, not even realizing that it was him crying too. "I will." Kensuke said, hoping that he wasn’t deceiving her with a lie. "I will." He said again, but he didn’t know whether that was to her or to him.

Keeping on to him, she remained quiet. There was more to say but it didn’t leave her lips. Releasing him slowly, she took a few steps away. With an odd calmness, she fixed her shirt before nodding slowly. "Good.” she said. Unsure what more should be said and done, she didn’t avert her gaze away.
"I suppose, at least, now I will have nobody to disturb in the middle of the night.”

Kensuke laughed, despite it all. "That’s true. Lo and behold, the empress can continue her beauty sleep." He said while he wiped the tears from his eyes. He didn’t know what to say either. They shared a moment of that, until Kensuke grinned. "Urgh. Look at me though. I have to go the entire way back, and then find my home in Konoha. Wanna bet it’s defaced again?"

Scoffing, Kiyomi planted her fists against her hips. "That is because you probably are too lazy to clean your crap.” She replied, opting to humour him back as it was clear that neither of them wanted to continue the previous topic. However, a question was too hard for Kiyomi to avoid. "So, when are you going to leave?”

She hit the nail right on it’s head. "Tomorrow morning." He Sighed. "And it’s early too. Can’t get any worse than that, right?" He tried, but it was a failing joke, even to him. "No. The less time I spend here, the better. Zakito made sure that I wouldn’t spend any time here." He spoke gloomy. "I’m sorry."

Letting her hands and arms hang, Kiyomi had a wry smile on her lips. "I forgive you, if you keep your promise. Besides, I suppose it is poetic justice,” she replied, "I also went to fight some danger, alone. You didn’t stop me. As … well, shit, one of the only ones.” Raising a hand, she scratched her nose bridge for a moment.
"You should then get some sleep. Don’t forget to write. Okay?”

Kensuke truly smiled for the first time in quite a while. A smile that reached his heart. She was almost the only one who did not die. He couldn’t die either then, if he was to keep her in check. It was a strange way of sharing love, but it definitely was one. "I will."

[ Operation: Silver Threat ]
[ A collab between @luelle and @Lesli ]
[ Dominion of Lightning | Heading out towards the Earth Country ]
[ Yumi is sent together with a few Sworn Swords towards the court of the Dragon Mother, which currently leads a bitter clash over the Earth Country's throne. The mission has various secretive objectives, befitting for a pack of Sworn Swords and a Scholae. ]

Walking to the port, Yumi was relieved to be going on another mission. She wasn't feeling to sit still and have the Empress worry over her. Instead, Yumi was more than eager to be occupied with a new goal and set of objectives. And the current operation had undoubtedly piqued her interest, despite her detest of ever playing on the political playfield. But complaining wasn't fit for someone of her rank; she mused to herself as she continued to search for the specific ship.
It was a large vessel, with the deckhands occupied to prepare the ship for what seemed to be leaving soon. Coming to a halt, Yumi took the sight of the vessel in. The design was different from many other vessels; both the crew and vessel showing Chonobi designs in appearance.
Raising a hand, Yumi spoke in their language, which resulted in a few curious glances. Realising then that she had her hood up, Yumi pulled the hood of her vest back before speaking a few words with the captain. The man was most aware of who, or well what, he was transporting and what his destination was. His concerns regarding the piracy that plagued the northern waters were something that Yumi understood. But all she could reply with was friendly, reminding the man of the gold he was promised to make this trip, which was effective enough to halt the captain's protests.

Knowing that she had arrived way earlier than it had been agreed with the Sworn Swords, Yumi walked to the railing of the ship. She had some experience working with the prestigious royal guards. But nothing more than some small exchanges as she felt better working alone. Now, she would oversee some of the Sworn Swords rookies that accompanied her.
"Ironic," Yumi thought to herself as she thought about it.

Stepping onto the dock of the port, a party of royal navy cloaked figures approached the Chonobi vessel, a few with their faces covered with intricate masks. One in front, leading them in a narrow v formation. The one at the head, distinguishably shorter than the others and wore a jade ram mask. Her fair, untamed tresses peeking from inside her hood. The idea of them wearing masks wasn’t too alarming with a nearby festival in commencement. Most of the new arrivals having their hoods down, except the one at the front who would speak for them. Once boarding the ship after a brief exchange with the captain, the group pinpointed their chaperone by the ship’s rails. A voice came from behind the ram’s mask once approaching, “Yúmi Hasewága, I ték et?” The female’s tone was light, yet richly accented. The glaring face of the ram concealing any trace of her expression. A dreary silence following, as she patiently waited for a confirmation from the kunoichi with the purple irises.

Eyeing the group of cloaked and masked individuals, Yumi patiently waited. Turning around to face the approaching masked individual, she couldn’t help but find it slightly amusing that the spokeswoman of the group was shorter than the rest. However, she had seen short folk do terrible things to those of taller heights. It was more than likely that this individual wasn’t someone to mess around with, considering her affiliation with the Sworn Swords.
Then the masked individual spoke with an accent that was understandable but took Yumi a second to register what they meant.
"Ah, yeah," Yumi said, flashing a friendly smile as she extended a hand, "I take it that you and your crew are ready for the voyage then?" She replied in turn.

“Aye, the ném’s Milayná Seggrfold.” The ram’s mask was lifted to reveal a youthful young lady with eyes a shade of coral. A rosy blonde braid twisted down the left side of her wild hair. She received Yumi’s hand and gave it an especially firm shake, as expected from a Framían. Meanwhile, the others behind her kept their silence, as instructed before arrival. Her fair brows slightly raised in recognition of Yumi’s familiar face once she got a closer look. “Hálo again… Wus present when ye met with thuh i’mpress. Y’know with tha barrier ‘n all,” Her hands waving in an inelegant circle. She wanted to establish some sort of trust straight from the start, so she decided to begin with the facts. “Anywho, whitever ya need just let me knów.”

The accent was strangely enough growing on Yumi, who crossed her arms out in front of her chest after the firm handshake. It was stronger than the likes of the Hons, which likely had to do with the geographical distance with major Taika clans and contact. In her mind, Yumi tried to repeat the name so that she could memorize it.
"Ah, that is right," Yumi said, a flash of recognition visible, "Very impressive. The barrier skill. I then assume correctly that you’re a veteran that was supposed to aid me in this endeavour?" Yumi asked, not hiding her curiosity.
The deck on which they stood started to tremble slightly as it became clear that the vessel was starting to head out, on the shouting orders of the captain.
”I will try to let you know if I need any services. Milaynda?" Yumi repeated, finding the name hard to pronounce. "I am sorry, that wasn’t correct."

“Thank ye, ehy ‘precíate et…” Milayna thanked Yumi for the compliment on her technique. “Nae, a’m afréd a’m just a wee júnior. They chose me to dú tha blethering,” she admitted unashamedly, concerning her rank. The trembling of the ship accompanied with the shouts of the captain, unphasing her. Her shorter physique offering her a remarkable center of gravity. “Got uh pair of vetrins at the cabúse. Thé’re pure dead brilliant, ehy tell ye.” One of the veterans with a bull mask clearing their throat behind her, letting her know they were listening. A lighthearted smile briefly brightening Milayna’s face.

When Yumi unintentionally made a mess of her name, she quickly assured her. “Dún’t swét et, ehy get et áll thuh time. Cáll me Mil, if that helps.” As the ship departed from the port, Milayna pulled off her hood letting her hair blow fiercely in the salty breeze. “Arite. We’ll be settlin’ n then.” She offered a respectful nod to Yumi, and the Swords proceeded to take their leave. While the others did whatever they would do, Milayna would ascend to the upper level to check in on the captain.

Listening to the Framían, Yumi couldn’t help but feel intrigued. She hadn’t worked together with a Framían before. Then again, she imagined that it shouldn’t matter either that much. They were going to work together due to competence.
"Thanks," Yumi responded when Milayna offered a shorter version of her name. The politeness was refreshing as Yumi hadn’t expected such a polite attitude from one of Milayna’s rank. Most special operatives had an attitude that spoke of their desire to prove themselves. Then again, Sworn Swords were of a different League, Yumi mused to herself.
"Very well," Yumi said as Milayna and the others would take their leave. Turning around, she continued to hang over the railing. The ship started to make way out of the port as the deckhands continued their work. Softly, the beat of a drum could be heard below deck as oars became visible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The start of the travel went without any problems. The wind seemed to favour the sails of the ships, together with the steady rowing, brought the ship far in a few days. There wasn’t much to do, to experience as the ship went unbothered by other vessels that were spotted at a far distance. The voyage was meant to take the ship and its crew around the northern points of the penusila, through the northern waters to the north-eastern coast of the Earth country. A few stops had been made already, for the ship carried trade wares and it was necessary to stock in provisions.
Nearly a week had gone by as the vessel started to approach the much colder climate.
These calming days were fine for Yumi. It gave her the time and place to ponder and think. Adjusting to the sea and traveling on ship prevented her stomach from aching and protesting. Which was great, seeing the large distance that they had to travel on ship.
Leaning against the railing, she stared at the emptiness of the sea at one side. But some motion caught her attention. A jet of water was spewed high into the air, followed by more. Surprised and curious, Yumi tried to see what had caused the sudden phenomenon. Narrowing her eyes and peering for anything that betrayed what the cause was, she then saw a large and dark creature rising from the waves. It was much larger than any fish she had seen before.
The massive size of it and speed of which it moved out of the water perplexed the Scholae. Fascinated, she wondered what names the creatures bore as several more seemed move to the surface.
Milayna carefully stretched the different parts of her body after sitting up from a solid, wooden bench that she rested upon. The chilly new air had constricted her muscles. It also seemed like the first break she chose to take in nearly a week, after she had willingly assisted the crew in carrying out their maintenance duties and cargo exchanges. If she sat around lazing about, she probably would have gone insane from the drumming of the rowers.
A sudden splash from offdeck caught Milayna’s attention, just as she finished a final satisfying stretch by pulling her arm behind her head. The commotion below the side of the ship, seemed to catch Yumi’s curiosity which spurred Milayna to investigate. “Havunt seen a muckle óf sea freeks upclose en uh lóng while.” Milayna commented on the whales, stepping up to join Yumi at the rail. Visibly careful not to get too close to the side of the ship. Her approach, displaying her aversion to water.
"They do seem freaky. Freakishly large," Yumi replied, watching the large animals. Noticing the subtle caution, Yumi decided to turn around. Leaning back against the railing, she provided more of a reason for Milayana to not approach the railing too close.
"Seems that the journey is proceeding without any hinderances. Which allows me to ask you a few questions I had in mind," Yumi began, "regarding you as a Sworn Sword, that is. If you don’t mind," the young woman said, flashing a friendly smile.
"You seem to have met and witness the Empress. What is your opinion of her? And," chuckling, Yumi shook her head lightly, "I know how she can be. So please, no need for polite answers. I am just curious, not interrogating you."
“Endeed só.” Milayna agreed, the sight of them making her shiver about. She played off the shivering as if having caught a chill. “Whit d'ya thínk of thes nippy wéather we’re havun?” Luckily the subject changing by Yumi. “Ufcorse, fier ewéy.” She took a seat on a nearby barrel, welcoming her questions with a subtle nod. Milayna considered her question for a moment. “Kwite uh gallus hen ehd séy, but she’s nó numpty et leest. Wit say yoú?”
It sure was amusing to listen to the heavy accent. Capable of following what Milayna said, at first, Yumi shrugged a little before she gave a response. "It is alright. I do prefer it warmer but that can’t be helped with our journey, I fear," she said first.
However, Yumi then needed a longer moment to consider the response of Milayna. Not that she needed time to put her thoughts of Kiyomi into words. The question laced with the accent in return simply required the Scholae to wonder if she understood the other right.
"She is a, eh, sharp and tricky individual. Always had been ambitious as well. But the people I followed before weren’t as good as she was."
Pausing for a second, Yumi thought about something before she spoke again.
"So, always wanted to serve something like the Sworn Swords?" Yumi asked friendly, desiring to provoke more out of the Framían.
“Ehy hear ye. Móther natúre hás her ówn plän.” Milayna retrieved a pair of throwing needles and a strip of whetstone from her thigh pouch to file the points as she waited for Yumi to respond. Draped by her cloak, was a mass upon her back which became even more apparent as she was leaned over. A lowly humming like unintelligible whispers came from behind her, carried away by the chilly sea breeze. Milayna continued her sharpening, unalerted by any unusual sounds to her. “Uh bucksturdie lédy that’s fer shúre.” She agreed, returning the items into her pouch after finishing. She then offered her full undivided attention to Yumi’s next question regarding her position. “Nae, not exectléy. Et sorteh just happund… T’wus a gúd escépe from hóme. Did ye alwéys wánt to be uh Scholæ?” She asked in return.
Yumi wondered if it was Mother Nature or her God that decided to simply throw in a mix of temperatures. Before she could ponder more about it, she noticed the humming originating from Milayna. The sound attracted Yumi’s attention, not able to really place in her mind what could make such a hum. Seeing Milayna undisturbed only rose more questions. Unsure how to bring it up, she decided to first respond to the question from Milayna. A small smile escaped Yumi for a second, throwing a look at the deep blue waves.
"I never aspired for high ranks and such. Load of bullcrap, honestly. I had a terrible leader, that was a supposed war veteran. Guy, however, sucked balls. Couldn’t lead a dead raccoon out of a dumpster. Fool got himself killed and I decided that merit was the true way to figure out what I want."
Scoffing softly, Yumi thought more about her promotion.
"So no, I never imagined or really wanted it. But her Majesty has a will of her own. And she is damn persuasive when she has to. It is, in any way, better than being an ANBU."
Introducing a small pause, Yumi decided to question the constant low hum.
"So, don’t take this the wrong way. But you do hear that noise, correct?" Yumi frowned slightly, "Is everything alright?"
“Aye, such utter tosh et es. Uh shayme ye sërved under uh bawbag, but méybe et helped ye en óther wéys ye leest expëct.” Milayna decided, after agreeing with Yumi’s initial statements. “Trúe wërds spókun.” She agreed once more, slightly taken aback by the scholae’s next set of questions. She cocked a fair brow, only to then release a hearty chuckle upon realizing the subject in question. “O, ye meen thes?” She asked, jabbing a thumb over her shoulder at the cloaked lump upon her back. Milayna dropped the top of her cloak below her shoulders to reveal the top of a wisping papery construct that resembled a nest. “Ets ma seecret weapun.” She offered Yumi a playful wink. She jovially cupped a hand beside her lips and whispered loudly to her, “Nïghtmére wásps... Relly uh gaggle uv grúmpy neebs.” She admitted halfheartedly.
It briefly stayed silent between Yumi and Milayna. The former stared at the wasps that seemed calm. A veteran of battles and missions, Yumi had seen enough dreadful things. But this was easily one of the most daunting things.
"I… I see," Yumi replied, a wry smile crossing her features, "How intriguing. I … well, then," she said, feeling far from actually comfortable. While she had some trust that Milayna knew what she was doing - due to her rank and organisation. It wasn’t really something Yumi had anticipated or even wanted near her.
"You should probably put your cloak back on," Yumi replied, managing to hide her own nerves. Making a subtle gesture to the people on deck, Yumi continued. "We don’t want to cause hysteria right now. A bit too early for that, I am afraid."
Once more straightening her back, Yumi’s mind briefly questioned how the other woman could remain so calm. Perhaps it was something that had been going on for years? A hidden style, perhaps? Remembering the Aburame clan, Yumi felt a cold shiver down her spine. No, she was fine without knowing.
[ A clash between the Northerners against an unknown Rongese army. ]
[ A collab produced by @RedFox and @Oetje ]
[ The Northerners under the combined leadership of Nariko Jun and Miyara Ueda face off against a Rongese army. Despite being outnumbered slightly, the Northerners face the threat valiantly as they have prepared to deal with the Rongese in their own fashion. ]
{ Part 1 }
The landscape was, at first, nothing but filled with serene silence. There was no shouting or the sounding of instruments that heralded the coming and going of troops in formations. No shaking of hundreds of horses moving at full gallop. A light fog hangs in the air, low at the ground.
From the west, they came. Hundreds of flags bearing the enraged tiger of the North. Hundreds of horses bearing riders that were all armed and armoured, their grizzled expressions either visible or hidden by their armoured masks. In a rapid pace, the tranquility was overwhelmed and driven away by the arrival of the Northerners, who quickly took the hill. Their early arrival was far from a miscalculation as the Chosen General, Miyara of the Ueda clan dismounted. Letting his gaze move over the landscape that was visible, the man subtly nodded as a smile dawned on his features.
With the Northerners perched on the high hill, they had to just wait for the Rongese army to appear in sight and do what would be expected of them.
Waiting for the newly arrived Jun general, Miyara would welcome the Jun with spread arms.
”Nariko of the Jun clan,” Miyara spoke, his voice a mixture of politeness and respect, ”Welcome to Lagyre!” The Chosen General waited for the other as he offered a hand towards the Jun.
Keeping a close eye on the troops and their surroundings, Nariko frowned at the light mist that was low on them.At least it might affect them as well, not only us, he thought as he passed formation after formation of units. Their banners flying high and proud, their morale was almost electrifying the air around them. Their mighty host rapidly took up positions laid out in the plans, causing a small smile to spread on his lips. It seems the rumors are true, General Ueda, he thought to himself as he stopped his steed and dismounted it. General Ueda gave him the most polite welcome and Nariko firmly took the extended hand, shaking it. His eyes looked into those of the general- they were filled with determination and pride." Thank you, General Ueda! I must admit, this is a most impressive welcome. The discipline of your troops is admirable." Nariko's voice reflected that of Miyara, full of respect and admiration. Letting go of the man's hand, he looked down the hill.
This man has the best handshake I had in a long time, he thought with a smile. He scanned the valley underneath their hill and turned to his fellow commander." Scouting must be difficult under these conditions, but regardless- do we have any news on the movement of the Rongese troops, General?" "
Placing his fists against his hips, Miyara turned to the direction that he seemed to expect their foes. ”They will be here soon. And when they arrive, we will draw them in,” Miyara replied as he flashed another smile at Nariko. ”The Lagyrians have scouted for us and will be ready to play their part. If the Gods are with us today, we will acquire a victory that hasn’t been achieved for decades nor will be easily overtaken.” The voice of Miyara gave away his eagerness for the coming clash of steel and blood.
”Ah,” Miyara noticed a soldier approaching with two cups - filled with sake. ”I want to celebrate this occasion with you, Nariko of the Jun clan!”
Taking his cup, Miyara raised his as he spoke further. ”For the North.”
He smirked at his counterpart. His eagerness was infectious and he started to feel his insides to start trembling with anticipation as well. He listened to Ueda's remarks and find it hard to disagree with him. The morale and training of their troops was impressive. As the aide approached them, he noticed the drink and Nariko reminisced for a second before taking his cup." This is, indeed, a memorable occasion. For the North!" He drank his sake and placed his cup down on the table." You seem to be certain with victory, General. That's good. Our troops will fight twice as hard if we believe in victory ourselves. After all, why should they follow someone who is not certain of victory? " Nariko mused out loud for a moment. " My troops are prepared to do our part, General. We'll lure them in and serve them on a silver platter for you. " He turned to Miyara and smiled. Indeed. History will be written today, General Ueda.
Chugging the sake in one go, Miyara released a heavy but relieved sigh. Placing with a certain conviction on the nearby table, he nodded upon hearing Nariko’s words. ”I am! For it is either going to be a glorious victory or a fine death. Our enemies can’t take away this joy from me and I intend to laugh throughout the day, my good Jun general!” Miyara said. Once more he turned to the direction where they expected the Rongese to arrive from. ”Besides, these bastards have yet to deal with proper Northerners. Today, we will give them a reason to bring even more numbers if they dare to oppose us next time!”
It was as if the words of Miyara brought the silence that followed. The ground shook gently but it was quite noticeable. Whispers softly broke the silence as the Northerners saw the myriad of banners in the distance. A serpent crawling on a dark field - an ominous sight as countless men marched in sight.
”Hahaha,” Miyara suddenly laughed as he patted Nariko’s shoulder, ”the Gods bless us with enough kills for both of us, Jun! It is time to prepare. Shall we?” Miyara asked as the silence of the Northerners was replaced with shouts of officers and men readying themselves.
Nariko chuckled at the reaction of General Ueda.Y ou've done it, Miyara. Now I'm excited for this victory as well, he thought to himself. Listening to Ueda, he nodded. Then as if a thunder was rolling over the hills appeared on the horizon. The Rongese army arrived in force as well, seemingly unaware of their presence. Nariko smirked and nodded, turning to Miyara." A fine death doesn't sound so bad, General. But I have another proposal. We shall enjoy the same beverage, in this exact place, but after we are victorious! May our blades turn red with the blade of our enemies, General Ueda! For the North!" He extended his hand once again."My troops are ready. We will lure them in with the promise of victory against an inferior force. And then." He didn't finish the sentence. There's no need to. He knew his part.
Miyara peered at the Rongese force for a moment longer before turning to Nariko. Nodding, the man spoke with a confident tone as he shook Nariko's extended hand. ”May the Gods favour you then, Jun. Save some for me,” mounting his horse, Miyara shouted an order as his retinue followed quickly suit. The other Northerners waiting patiently as their attention was set on the Rongese army and what the orders would be, as the command was handed over to Nariko.
" And may the Gods favour you as well, Ueda! I'll make sure to leave you some! " As he departed, Nariko turned to his troops. All the eyes were looking at him. He returned the looks and took a step forward." We will lead the charge here against the Rongese. A cavalry detachment under my direct command will move in closer to the enemy and engage them. Our goal, however, is not to defeat them - we are to lure them in! We will fire off one voley of ranged projectiles and immediately commence a fighting retreat and harass them as they advance on us. The terrain itself will funnel the enemy into a more narrow path, and we will abuse this with impunity. I want all long range Ninjutsu users to use their techniques with the intention of continuing the luring maneuver. We cause too many casualties, they might retreat. The closer we are, the narrower their corridor of advance will become. As soon as General Ueda springs their traps, we will all launch our ranged arsenal with the goal of creating as much chaos as possible among their ranks! The rest is up to General Ueda! Any questions?"
The officers shook their head as one."Good! Now go on and pass my orders down! We head out in five minutes. Carry out these orders well and you will bring glory to our nation!" The officers saluted and turned their steeds, disappearing among the ranks. Orders were being shouted down the chain of command and Nariko mounted his steed as well. He observed the approaching, slithering snake that were the Rongese troops and observed them with his eyes narrowed.Repulsive, he thought to himself. Counting down the time, he clenched his fists during the last minute. They showed no sign of retreat. Another series of shouts was spreading, from the back of his force. Orders were passed down. He raised his right hand and clenched it into a fist. He let out perhaps the easiest battle cry ever, but one that did its purpose.
"For the North!"
His feet pushed against the side of his steed and it dashed forward. As one, his cavalry moved out. The earth shook under their hooves, the air echoed their cry. The Northern army moved forward as one, maintaining its formations. They headed against the slithering snake, their roar matching that of a ferocious tiger. They remained at a moderate pace to avoid tiring out their steeds.The Tiger clashes with the Snake, Nariko thought to himself as they approached the point of their peel of maneuver. His eyes narrowed and he could see the enemy banners grow larger and larger. Nariko narrowed his eyes, calculating the distance between his ranks and the rapidly approaching Rongese ranks.But the tiger always comes out on top, he thought as he pointed at the enemy forces.
[ The 11th Imperial Brigade is preparing to head out and take up their positions to enact the tactic set out by their leaders. Knowing that they don't have much time, Meilin and Kazumo meet shortly before they are both forced to withdraw to face their duties. ]
Jogging towards one exit of the encampment, Meilin’s eyes hastily moved her gaze around. She tried to find Kazumo’s blue hair that would stick out among the members of the 11th brigade easily. Several times her heart skipped a beat as she saw something blue but only noticed that it wasn’t either Kazumo or his hair. One would imagine that the very distinct hair colour would make it easier for her to locate him.
Biting her lower lip, she was at the edge of giving up on her search and hurrying back to the location where her unit was heading. Then as if the gods had enough with playing around, she noticed him. For a second, she hesitated as she noticed the other Gwade Rangers in his close proximity. But then she noticed that he had likely seen her as well.
Somewhat gingerly, at first, she raised her free hand in the air to wave at him - unsure if they had the time or chance to make more of an exchange before departing to battle.
He had been preparing with the rest of the Rangers and what their objective would be in the upcoming battle. His superior had just finished up the instructions when Kazumo would spot Meilin waving at him. His superior seemed to notice this as well as he would give a nod of approval to Kazumo. Giving a smile he would walk over to Meilin making sure to not bump into anyone at the exit. When he got to her he had a smile before he looked around. ”So I uhh… heard you had a speech that went pretty well.”
When he came over, Meilin flashed a wry smile, only to falter as he mentioned her speech. Had others caught wind when her platoon was shouting? Or perhaps she had spoken too loud? Cursing herself in her mind, Meilin shook her head lightly - trying to ignore the red taint on her cheeks and ears.
"It was decent. People hyped it up, that is all. So," not sure what she should say, Meilin threw a look past him to the other Gwade Rangers, "you ready for it all?"
Well she was certainly being modest, most don't just start cheering for you over decent. ”Decent huh? That explains the roar of the eager soldiers.” Kazumo said with a smirk before he gave a soft shrug. ”Ready as I will ever be for a battle. We have the plan and we can only hope it works out as planned. Otherwise I’ll just have to make sure it works out as planned. What about you?”
He did seem ready, she mused to herself. Or perhaps he was hiding his insecurity much better than she did? Pushing it out of her head, Meilin spoke again. "I am a bit nervous. Got a good group of people that I rather not lose. You know," her voice trailed off as she imagined it was clear what she meant and wanted to convey.
"Oh, I got something for you," she said as if she had to remind herself. Producing a small handkerchief, Meilin held it up towards Kazumo. "It is clean, don’t worry. Just some… good luck or you know."
He smiled and nodded, understanding her wanting to keep her group alive as many as she could. Then he was a bit surprised when she extended a handkerchief towards him. He suddenly had a big smile as he took the important piece of fabric. ”Well I’m sure it will give me all the luck I need.” Kazumo stated although he now felt a bit bad about not having anything in return.
”It’s….. not finished yet. But the carving you saw me working on every now and then. I had planned on giving it to you when I did finish it.”
She didn’t want to start about luck. Even as she was far from believing that talking about luck could devoid one of it, she opted to remain silent about it was the best way to go. Judging how much her gesture cheered him up was enough for her. Not to mention, there was another reason why she had given him such a specific item.
"It is alright. Just make sure you are going to be able to finish it.” She replied, briefly wondering what else was left to say. Throwing a look from where she came from, she didn’t see any of her unit which was both a relief and a source of anxiety.
"I should go back,” she stated, turning her attention back to Kazumo. "Stay safe,” the words left her lips but they sounded hollow as she half turned around, offering only a smile before she wanted to dash off to find her unit and rejoin the others.
He would give a nod he planned on finishing it even if she didn't want him too. As she looked around for what he could assume was her unit she mentioned that she should get back and for him to stay safe. They had a different tone though, not at all how she normally sounded. In that second he wrapped her in a quick tight hug. ”I’ll see you when the battle is over.” Kazumo said softly to her, before giving her a big smile as he turned to go back to his own unit.
[ Hiron Hon | Major General of the 3rd Division | Squad lead of Team 9 ]
[ The 3rd Imperial Division of Akino facing off against a Rongese army ]
The enemy force was terrifying to behold. Their numbers were clearly many more than what Hiron had assembled in front of them. The 10th and 12th Imperial Brigade were mustered and having their positions - ready to defend the crossing. Before Hiron could order the next stage of his plan, a deafening sound started from the other side of the river. Grizzled and experienced as he was, even Hiron's neck hair rose upon the sound of what appeared to be countless warhorns. The deep wailing of the instruments sends forth such a noise that was intimidating to behold. The ground started to tremble as the Rongese troops started to march, large units started to grow more compact as they moved forwards. The cold water of the crossing did little to prevent them, it seemed.
Staring at the sight, Hiron's blood started to boil. His desire for revenge and wanting for bloodshed grew immensely upon sighting how confident his adversaries moved towards him and his troops. For a second he nearly forgot that he was in command and what needed to be done. Instead, he wanted to wade through the water and sate his lust for death and violence.
"Light the beacons," Hiron nearly snarled, half turning his head as a nearby member of his guard would rush off. Turning his attention to the enemy, Hiron tightened his grip on his weapon. The clash was soon to be imminent. Already coordinated volleys of projectiles were shot towards the Rongese that attempted to cross. Dozen of men would collapse after being hit by a projectile, their blood colouring the water as their bodies were pushed aside by their comrades.
"Don't let those bastards get too far," Hiron shouted as he marched forwards. In his wake, Akinians of the 10th and 12th Imperial brigade also moved forwards as one. However, a dark grey plum would start to rise in the air as the clash between Imperial Akinians and Rongese started to become imminent.
[ The Jirian Army of General Yuuki ]
[ Part 1 ]
[ The Jirian force clash with the defenders of Bagalan, intending to take the fortress as chaos spread among their ranks. ]
The gates were indeed wide open for the tidal wave that was the Jirian forces, the sound of steel could already be heard from those trying to take the walls. Screams of violence echoed the area, only to be drowned out by the Jirians force storming into the fort itself. Detachments already split off to encircle the Rongese forces, the Rongese were certainly confused and shaken by the fact the gates were open and now an army was coming through them. Kiro who was leading the frontal charge seemed to be enthralled as the Jirian force clashed with the very spread out defenders from the Rongese.
Rushing in, Nishi slammed herself against a defender - nearly toppling the foe. The charge had surprised the enemy as the chaos of battle started to spread. Using her tanto in this close ranged fighting gave Nishi a good advantage as she easily drove the sharp steel into the abdomen of a foe. Using her free hand to grab her victim by the shoulder, Nishi pulled out her weapon to several times deliver fast jabs. Flesh, cloth and blood were torn by the sharp edge of Nishi’s weapon as she repeatedly kept stabbing.
Releasing her opponent as his resistance quickly ebbed away, Nishi took the scenery in for a second. The enemy was being overwhelmed but would fight back as they likely realised that they got cornered.
Grunting, Nishi decided to take a step to the side to let an eager countrymen go past her as the fighting continued. Gesturing to the genin to stick close, Nishi moved near the midst of the chaos as they needed to keep pushing the enemy backwards to keep their momentum.
Alsanna was oblivious to most of the stratagems that had been discussed by the higher-ups, as such it was only natural for someone of her rank and experience to come off as overwhelmed and somewhat confused. The situation- the chaos- wasn’t what prompted it, for her change in demeanour had only truly started when she had touched Nishi. The medic was relegated to staying close to her superior while her equal rank colleague was to serve as a potential defense against those that could threaten the valuable piece of this squad. The half-Sayyadian shadowed Nishi, keeping very little variance in the perpetual meter and a half separating them, enough to avoid an accidental tanto swing should things not go the jounin’s way.
Enemies to the left. Enemies to the right. The back was charged with zealous countrymen while the front was to be devoured by the masses led by the General that did not cover the back for long. Should Nishi handle a direction plus the potential underground factor with her ninjutsu while Hikari handled another, it left one potential opening for their group: Up. The heavens above were what got Alsanna’s blue gaze. Any potential sniper, she’d try to spot, any mid-range bowman would be greeted by her feather-shaped kunai and shuriken she so subtly held between her left hand’s fingers, all the while her right hand remained conspicuously idle.
As they started rushing in, Hikari kept herself at Nishi’s side. Holding her tanto, she watched as the jounin pushed herself onto another enemy, and before she could continue observing Nishi, an enemy came at her from the side. Without giving it a second of thought, Hikari raised the tanto, clashing with the enemy’s blade. The enemy moved their blade back, and so did Hikari, only for her to dodge another swing and stab the enemy in their arm, causing them to drop their weapon. Hikari took out her tanto, before kicking the man back, allowing another soldier to strike him down.
After releasing and moving back as close as she could to Nishi, she saw the jounin’s gesture to remain close. Keeping her tanto high, Hikari kept an eye out for both more enemies that might come forth, and to ensure she’d remain close to Nishi.
Things were so far going fast and efficiently, the Jirian force was making quick and swift progress through the startled Rongese force. Things would be well over before they knew it… Yet there was always a hitch in easy plans.
”AGHHHHH!!!!” Came the blood curdling scream, as if the person was being ripped apart like a toy. The scream caused Kiro to look around until he saw them. His eyes widened while a small smile grew on his face. ”Well…. Not what I was expecting in the slightest.” Kiro stated as he saw this giant beast-like creature almost like a giant mutated human but far more feral with the body of a man in it’s mouth. They were wearing armour and one was even carrying a giant club-like weapon. Three of them were smacking men aside left and right when one of them suddenly stood up straight, almost looking around for something.
The beast started to get more violent in its search. Men were stabbing at it yet it paid them no heed. Then it’s eye locked onto a trail seemingly. It started to violently slam the ground as if wanting to chase it, even starting to salivate when it got it’s command. The Boggart roared again loudly and charged straight ahead. Through Rongese and Jirian men alike. Sparring none from its charge as its giant claw-like hands slammed various men aside. Nothing seemed capable of stopping it. Even soldiers stabbing it in the legs and chest seemed unable to stop its rampage. It had a goal in its mind and it wasn’t gonna stop until it got it.
As it barreled down the ground, Nishi’s unit would feel the vibrations getting stronger and louder as men screamed, either from seeing it or getting crushed under it. Then the Boggart came into sight, its movements becoming even more frantic and violent as it finally spotted her. Everything in its field of vision was dark but one light was bright as ever. That light was Alsanna, whether she was aware of it or not, she couldn’t turn this light off. No, the boggart sensed the chakra radiating off her from her most recent usage before the battle began. Nothing would seemingly stop it as it charged right towards her, drool coming from it’s mouth as it’s beady eyes stared directly at her.
Meanwhile Kiro’s side had its progress hindered as the two other boggarts seemed to be swatting away anyone that came close. Ignoring projectile fire alike as they barely seemed to pierce it’s skin. Kiro however relished a challenge and saw this as nothing more than just that. While his men held their ground and picked off Rongese troops, Kiro moved forward towards one of the Boggarts and ducked a swing from it’s claw. As he did he could feel the wind pressure from the heft of the paw. He then plunged his sword into the it’s side, only to pull back out and duck another swing. Kiro’s smile only grew as he cracked his neck and continued his dance with this beast.
The fight was getting more intense as Nishi attempted to keep her pupils close to her. Fighting off a Rongese with a mace, she could feel the earth shake. Driving her weapon into the neck of her foe, Nishi dared to throw a look around. Sighting the origin of the violence that headed towards them, her body paralyzed in sheer fear. The sight of the beast that started to head towards them was like nothing she had ever seen before.
Pulling her tanto out of her previous foe, Nishi tried to position herself between the raging beast and her pupils.
The beast was much taller, wider and even armoured. The stench of death lingered around it as it roared, a rain of saliva falling down on Nishi and her pupils.
”Go! Get--”
The woman’s instruction and shout to her pupils was cut short as the armoured mostrity slammed her aside, alongside two other men. What had appeared as a competent fighter and a ruthless jounin was merely swat aside as a fly - slammed against the nearby wall and sinking to the ground, only faint signs of motion, the beast not tolerating her interference as it already lunged forwards - in what one could describe as a desperate attempt to grab Alsanna.
Something spectacular had just happened, leaving Alsanna’s eyes glittering in delight at the atrocious sight the whole platoon was to witness. Before the monstrosities had actually commenced their attack on the troupe upon sniffing out the half-Sayyadian’s chakra-scent, the squad’s medic couldn’t help but form a toothy smirk during her moment of admiration. “Hoooo-holy moly, LOOK. AT. THAT!” she wailed, although the screams of her fellow soldiers and the roars of the beasts easily drowned out her voice, leaving only those few close to her capable of hearing her glee.
Then, one came charging toward them- toward Alsanna in particular. And she showed no fear, staring right in the eyes, and in turn her posture made her deduction clear: She knew that thing had a boner for her. Yet she did not falter, as expected of a ‘witch’. ‘Oh? Why do you like me so much? Is it my smile? My presentation? My voice?’ her mind was racing, eagerly studying the monster while she entered a form of auto-pilot. Her previously idle right hand had conjured her previously sealed parasol, which she immediately pointed to the ground a few feet before her. Trigger pulled and the contraption unleashed to open the umbrella, she shot a ball of explosives right before her, letting the force of the opening parasol and its durability to sponge it, this approach had two purposes: The first was to create distance, using the sponged shockwave to swiftly propel Alsanna back so she could land fair distance away from most of the heat, potentially on a wall. The second was to see if this thing had any particular defenses and how it handled having its vision obscured. The explosion itself wasn’t big, although her team could certainly feel a light shockwave too if they had stuck too close to the beast.
As Hikari kept following Nishi, sticking close, she heard a roar from the distance. While not turning to look in the direction, she was wary of whatever caused the roar. The fact that loud movements started making their way towards them did not make her feel any better. The vibrations from the powerful steps made Hikari finally turn her gaze, only to see the large behemoth that was heading in their direction.
It didn’t take it long to get to them, nor did anything seem to hinder its movement. It almost seemed hellbent on getting to them. And it ended up reaching them, with many of the people surrounding her either frozen on the spot from fear, or beginning to run away. The boggart seemed to not care about either, only fixing its gaze on Alsanna. Hikari could faintly hear Nishi begin to say something, but most sounds except for the creature’s breaths seemed to just not exist for a moment, before it swiped at Nishi and two other soldiers, sending them all flying away. The burst of wind from the strike that washed over Hikari made her come to her senses, before she noticed who the creature was looking at. And Alsanna started making her own move, bringing out her own weapon from seemingly nowhere, and then talking to the beast.
Taking the opening Alsanna had created, Hikari glanced in the direction Nishi had been thrown to. There were still soldiers from both sides fighting, while trying to get away from the beast. And she couldn’t see over them, nor was she supposed to use chakra. Biting her lip, she started running away from the beast. She started scanning the ground to try and find Nishi, while keeping her tanto raised to be capable of countering anything that might try and take a swing at her.
The sound of blade cutting through flesh kept sounding through the air, along with a man laughing with a giant grin. Kiro smiled with each cut he delivered, the ground around him and the beast becoming more red with the second. Jirian men didn’t know how to proceed and Rongese troops didn’t quite know what to make of the scene they were witnessing. Most react with fear when faced with such a daunting challenge, yet Kiro seemed the exact opposite almost as if he wished for this. The Boggart only roared with each cut physically huffing and getting more erratic at this constant nuisance.
”Men! Why do you cower now? I said it before the fight!!” Kiro started with as he moved backwards from a slash from the giant claws.
”Show everyone! That we Sharks are done waiting!!” Kiro shouted as he moved in but not to the Boggart, but the other one and slashed at it’s gut. The beast who was remaining under control by a Rongese beast master was now roaring as the sound of the whistle came for it to stop, but it only stopped for a moment before rushing Kiro.
One Boggart slammed it’s paw down causing Kiro to push back from the attack only to get rammed in the chest by the other Boggart’s arm. Sent skidding along the ground. Kiro gasped for air only to start laughing. ”This men! Is how you stare death in the eyes and make it cower before you! Now fight! Never let up! Never back down!” Kiro stated with the same grin still plastered on his face. Picking up a sword of Rongese origin. Kiro spotted one man about to blow a whistle when the same sword pierced through his chest.
”No you don’t… I'm not done enjoying my new toys.” Kiro mumbled as he rushed in. Jumping over a claw just to duck another. Pushing through to the other side where the other two beast masters were. With a quick flick of his hand, his sword sliced through their neck as their bodies fell to the floor.
Picking up another sword Kiro ran towards the Boggarts once more as he now faced a two on one situation.
For Nishi, the world was nothing more but a blurred mess. A painful pitch rang through her head, refusing to leave her in peace as she tried to make sense out of what happened in front of her. Trying to push herself to her feet was met with horrible pain. Coughing, Nishi sank back to her bottom as her vision slowly stabilised. Despite the terrible fighting between her countrymen and the enemy nearby, Nishi attempted to move her fingers and legs - to assure herself that she wasn’t immobilised.
A terrible roar pierced through the yard , silencing many that were nearby the boggart that attempted to get close to Alsanna. The sequence of small explosions caused the big monstrity to seem both in pain and agony of some sort - perhaps desperation?
The burns visible on the dark grey skin did little to hamper the monster’s movement as its head started to turn and shift near immediately.
Its small beady eyes seemed to scan around, even ignoring several of the Jirians attacking its legs. More annoyed it simply swept some of the Jirians aside before it managed to settle its gaze back on Alsanna. Saliva started to move over the lips of the beast as it narrowed its gaze before rushing towards the genin - ignoring its own safety as various Jirians managed to avoid being trampled and stabbing the beast as it rampaged towards the genin. Much like before, the monster seemed to just be eager to grab the genin with its hands - evidently motivated by some sort of strange drive that resembled either hunger or desperation.
As she pushed through the crowd, Hikari made a stab at an enemy’s leg from behind, getting him to move to his knee, before stabbing the back of his neck. She was trying to clear a bit of a path in the direction Nishi was thrown to, but it was a tough task. Every opening she found was there for but a brief moment, and sometimes she couldn’t see any openings. So she had to resort to these kinds of methods.
Taking a step over the fallen enemy, Hikari started to see better the wall of the fort, and several people fell next to it. Before she could take a better look, a large roar went throughout the area. It came from the direction of where Alsanna was. Well, her teammate was already resorting to using chakra, so Hikari figured that she probably had some kind of plan.
Turning back to the direction of the wall, Hikari kept pushing onwards, before being stopped by an enemy that tried striking her with a slice from the side. Stopping it with her tanto, she slid the blade along the soldier’s sword, before finding herself against another man’s back. The Rongese soldier came at her with another strike, and Hikari blocked again. She couldn’t move freely due to how many were around, and if she moved too much, she risked having the soldier hit her fellow Jirian in the back. Her opening was found when a few Jirians were thrown up, and came falling in their direction. It gave enough of a distraction for her to move along with the shift, as several soldiers tried pushing away, to avoid having the flung soldiers land on top of them. She glanced in the direction of the Rongese, who was now being pushed away from her, as she tried adjusting her movement again to go in the direction of the wall. She could’ve sworn she saw Nishi there.
[ Ryo Katsu | Imperial Special Force | Ghost ANBU operative, status: officially MIA.| ]
[ A horrible decision ]
The journey had been rough. But with the aid of Tao, Ryo was starting to understand Rén better. He could even speak more than the basics at this point. It still felt odd to interact in the language and with the people. Knowing that they were actually contributing to a government that wanted to topple his homeland, Ryo felt conflicted at times.
But he had learned several important things. Such as various factions that were still fighting back against the occupation of Rong and even halting its expansion. Yet, these various factions were providing a complex layer of politics. And Ryo still wasn't a big fan of politics. He rather worked on a mission, report back, rinses and repeat. However, he did understand that he needed to learn what was going on so that he could provide practical information to the allied forces that were fighting against the Rongese forces.
There were a few issues that Ryo had to figure out though.
The first and glaring one was: how to convey the information to the allied, mostly the Imperial Akinian, without triggering their concern. For anything, but the Ghost ANBU, he was already dead for a while. Just strolling back and explaining things wouldn't pan out well. They would first interrogate him in the worst ways possible. But also waste too much time and giving up his unique position to delve further into learning more about their enemy.
The second issue was that he couldn't just convey the information to the Jirian or Northern forces. He couldn't trust them enough to also share the information with the Imperial Akinian force. Even if Midori was present, Ryo just didn't want to take that risk.
Another issue was the distance. He was way further east than any of the allied fighting force. Going back meant giving up the distance he had managed to gain and infiltrate Rong further.
Frustrated with his dilemma, Ryo did consider several options. Eating his food, he shot a glance at his travelling companion. Tao had been of great help and seemed dedicated to doing any kind of damage to Rong. Revenge wasn't a bad motivator but not the best either, in Ryo's mind. Then again, he had seen tunnel-visioned leaders manage to achieve their goals.
"I am going to need you to travel back westwards," Ryo began slowly, causing Tao to frown and look up from his supper. "Before you argue back, I need someone I trust to bring information to those who fight against Rong."
"We can hire a courier or something, can't we?" Tao brought up, his expression betraying his dismay at going back westwards. "I can help more with being here." He further tried to add. However, Ryo already shook his head in a subtle fashion. "No, Tao, I need you to deliver the information back. It is vital. You want to liberate the people from Rong, right?"
Tao's lips parted, readying to give life to the next protest. But the last question reminded Tao of what he had signed up for when travelling with Ryo. Slowly, he nodded to emphasise that he conceded to Ryo's suggestion. "But I do want to come back. I deliver the information and then I come back." Tao decided to say, only a few seconds after conceding.
Ryo wondered briefly if they would release Tao. He felt ashamed but he was well aware of what they would do. They were going to pull his mind apart - a horrible process. All to validate if his information was correct. It would reveal him, Ryo, but Tao wasn't aware of Ryo's true rank and occupation. There was a big chance that Tao could be even executed. Feeling his appetite vanish, Ryo halted eating further from the bowl.
"Yeah. Deliver the information and then try to return back to me. I will stick around here for a while."
[ The Siege of Bagalan | Sevudia, Eastern Continent ]
[ Koike Hon | Scholae of Akino, a colonel of the 13th Imperial Akinian Brigade ]
[ Nasty Surprise ]
The gatehouse was quickly overrun and conquered by Koike's forces. The men of the 13th didn't hesitate to move a bit further and acquire more ground, quickly taking down the few Rongese that were meant to keep watch of this section of the fortress. The additional Jirian reinforcements that General Yuuki had promised arrived. The Akinians received them with a modicum of respect and wariness.
Watching how the Jirian troops started to split up and attempt to move in different directions, Koike pondered on the plan. The Rongese defenders were now cornered and soon to be overwhelmed by all possible sides - a horror scenario for anyone trying to defend a fortification.
Then the screams erupted and caused most to turn in the direction. From a direction, Jirian troops started to run back, shouting something about monsters. Frowning, Koike rested the flat side of his sword on his shoulder. Confused about what the Jirians meant, soon enough he saw from what the Jirians were fleeing from.
Large and armoured, three large boggarts came around the corner. One of them was holding a man, easily ripping an arm off and chewing the ruptured limb as it lazily glanced at the collection of Akinian Chonobi and Jirian troops.
"Boggarts!"
Near immediately, the men of the 13th rallied to their positions as two of the boggarts roared and were seemingly motivated to charge forwards. One of them wielded a crude wooden club as the other seemed to flex its thick fingers while striding forwards. Saliva was flying from the corners of the beasts as they saw the multitude of chakra signatures and being let loose, betraying their excitement.
Jogging to the formation of men that braced against the boggarts, Koike shouted a command to his men.
"Aim for their eyes!"
Various arrows already were flying from the battlements, hitting the thick skin but narrowingly missing the beady eyes of the monsters. A small contingent of Rongese troops also came rushing around the corner. Calling out battlecries, the Rongese soldiers moved forwards - but keeping a healthy distance from the charging boggarts.
Aware of the beasts and what they could do, Koike had never faced one before. Wanting to test something, he would move his hands together. Forming the few seals while uncomfortably holding the hilt of his sword, Koike projected two advanced genjutsu clones. Near immediately the boggarts halted their charge and started to follow and catch the intangible clones that lured them away from the troops.
"Katsu! With me! Captain Skuli, hold this damn yard." Koike shouted as he would sprint towards the boggarts. His genjutsu clones easily kept the attention of the dim-witted brutal horrors. It also confirmed the stories that boggarts only saw chakra and their craving for it.
Reaching the boggart that used his claws to try to grab a hold of the genjutsu clone, Koike attempted to drive his blade into the right leg. The steel would bite in the flesh but barely deep enough to deliver a strong blow. Much to Koike's amazement, the boggart ignored the stab and focused his attention on the impossible prey, that continued to elude its grasp.
Grunting, Koike would focus a bit of chakra on his feet and hands as he started to climb the back of the boggart. The beast was moving wildly, nearly throwing Koike from its back. Moving further to the neck, Koike tried to aim the tip of his sword for the specific spot. Attempting to jab, the beast moved and the tip of Koike's sword delivered nothing but a graze. Now he gained the attention of the particular boggart, which's eyes widened upon sighting a chakra signature so close.
In the nick of time, Koike managed to avoid being grabbed by jumping of the boggart's back. Landing on the ground, he quickly turned to the drooling horror. The boggart seemed to size Koike up before it roared and wanted to charge forwards. A knife, however, slammed itself in the boggart's right eye.
Moving in action, Katsu pulled out another knife and tried to aim for the other eye but the boggart already moved forwards to Koike. The Hon quickly moved aside as a fiery blue coating spread over his sword. Lashing out, Koike noticed how his sword delivered a deeper bite but not enough to give a cause of worry for the boggart.
The beast growled as it attempted to grab Koike again. Seeing no other way out, Koike infused his sword's coating with wind chakra. Jumping backwards, he unleashed a strong crescent of compressed wind chakra - that blew Koike roughly backwards with more speed as it delivered another cut to the boggart.
Landing more roughly, Koike frowned as the beast rolled the shoulder of the wounded arm before it started to charge again.
"Relentless fuck," Koike muttered as he readied another technique of his. Just when he was done, the boggart's claw grabbed Koike and tightened its grasp.
"Koike!" Katsu shouted as he moved in on the boggart's flank. In a swift and near acrobatic manoeuvre did the young Uchiha manage to land on the boggart's back. Armed with two knives, Katsu's eyes flashed red as planted both in the boggart's neck. Twisting them, a hissing sound could be detected.
The boggart attempted with its free hand to swat Katsu away as his left beady eye stared longingly at Koike. The drooling became more intense as the beast wanted to move Koike to its mouth - to devour the chakra signature that is held in a tight grasp. But suddenly, Koike slipped from the boggart's grasp, managing to pull himself up on the boggart's claw. Close enough to the boggart's face, Koike's hands clasped around the hilt of his blade as he unleashed a blow with all his might. The steel sliced through the boggart's face, dicing the small nose and slicing the remaining eye.
The beast bellowed a roar of pain and agony as its claws shot to its face, forcing Koike to jump to the ground. Landing safely, he glanced at the wounded creature. Then the hissing sounds became louder before two detonations followed, sending lumps of flesh and boggart hide into the air. The wounded beast attempted to keep standing but within a few seconds fell to the ground, remaining motionless.
Walking to the boggart, Koike noticed that it was still breathing. Once more chakra flared around the steel of his blade as Koike aimed the tip of his blade at the neck. Releasing his breath, he pushed the sharp steel into the boggart's neck. Driving the steel deep in, Koike had to use more strength than anticipated to reach a deep point. Twisting the sharp steel, he noticed how the boggart's limbs shook once and then remained motionless. Satisfied with his handiwork, Koike wanted to throw a look to the side. But before he could, a heavy force nearly crushed him. The wooden club moved through the Hon as his technique of becoming largely intangible saved him from being crushed.
"I already dislike these beasts," Koike grumbled as he turned to the new threat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The yard was littered with Rongese troops being mowed down by Jirians and Chonobi of the 13th brigade. There were a few wounded among the allied force but nothing that was immensely serious. Walking back to the position, Koike was somewhat drenched in blood. The boggarts had put up some fight but were ultimately not a match for those who knew how to deceive them. Sighting more Jirians arriving from another direction, Koike reckoned that General Yuuki had found victory on his part. The troops that had opened the gate and provided also some distraction by starting fires in other parts of Balagan fortress returned. Most of them were in one piece but a few had perished during the execution of the plan.
An officer of the Jirians sought Koike out, raising in a wary fashion his free hand towards the Hon.
"You're the Imperial leader?" The officer asked, subtly sizing Koike up. Not one to really tarry, Koike simply nodded. "That would be me. I assume that you guys manage to overwhelm the defenders on your side?" He decided to ask in return.
The Jirian officer nodded as he raised a thumb over his shoulder, pointing at the central keep of the fortress. "We are going to clean house now. There are likely some enemy troops within the keep but we can handle that. General Yuuki wanted me to report that he is most pleased with your aid and plan."
Koike shot a glance at the keep. By the end of the day, it would likely be cleared out of all and any Rongese. There was still the question of how by the Gods they had managed to acquire boggarts. Let alone manage to arm and tame them enough to listen, in any regard. Were there more areas where those blasted beasts appeared in?
"Good. We will soon return back to our camp. Congratulations with the fortress," Koike said as he half turned around. The Jirian officer said something but Koike barely registered it. It was time to organise their way northwards and figure out where the other remains of the 13th Brigade had gone off towards.
"Colonel, sir," Skuli's voice boomed over the yard as he approached Koike. "What do you want to do with the boggarts?" He asked, throwing a subtle glance at the large corpses.
"Burn them and spread their ashes. Best to lay their souls to rest before they will be coming back to haunt this place again." Koike replied, remembering the sad origin stories of the beasts. It was best if they wouldn't be able to come back to haunt or terrorize anybody else in the future.
[ A clash between the Northerners against an unknown Rongese army. ]
[ A collab produced by @RedFox and the amazing @Oetje ]
[ The Northerners under the combined leadership of Nariko Jun and Miyara Ueda face off against a Rongese army. Despite being outnumbered slightly, the Northerners face the threat valiantly as they have prepared to deal with the Rongese in their own fashion. ]
{ Part 2 }
"For the North!" The cry echoed through their ranks again and Nariko launched the first projectile. He molded his chakra and launched two Blades of Wind. Not waiting to see the results of the technique, he changed directions sharply. His entire unit followed suit. Each launched a single ranged projectile based on their skills. The vast majority were arrows, raining down on Rongese ranks, intertwined with a Ninjutsu every here and there. Just like him, his troops immediately veered away. Nariko turned to look behind his back, eyes narrowed.
Come on, you bastards! Nariko cursed in his mind as the Rongese troops appeared to ignore their move.Give them time, they need to process the first wave! He reminded himself. The way his detachment performed the peel off maneuver was impressive for Jun. No chaos, only order. Units turned in an orderly fashion, in a tight space, and immediately commenced their fighting retreat. It may have been a few seconds, but for Jun, it felt like eternity. Then he saw it! Rongese cavalry detached from the main body and sped forward, giving chase to their unit. Their infantry formations were fanning out and advancing as well. Nariko felt excitement surge through him, only to reprimand himself to stay focused.
The Rongese response didn't keep them waiting for long. And it seems they had skilled archers in their ranks as well. The blood chilling cries of horses were heard among their ranks, several tumbling in front of his eyes. Nariko slowed down his steed a bit, falling behind the front of his retreating formation more towards the rear of it. He could have a better overview of the situation and felt he could pass on comments more effectively."Keep at it! Make them pay dearly for every fallen comrade! For the North!" Faces around him reacted with surprise but they echoed his cry immediately. The entire Northern formation soon cried out those words. Their response was a repulsive cacophony of screams from the Rongese. He kept repeating the cry as he made his back to the rear of the formation. Nariko moulded his chakra and fired of a Phoenix Sage Fire, than swerved his steed to avoid a concentration of arrows.
The Rongese were giving them a merciless chase, raining their ranged projectiles on them. The Northerners returned the favor with equal intensity, taking Nariko’s words to their hearts. Arrows streaked both ways, most finding their marks due to the packed formations both sides were adapting to the narrowing terrain.Come on, just a bit more! Chase us for a bit longer! Nariko mentally goaded the Rongese into continuing their headless chase. Casualties from this maneuver seemed to be within predicted numbers, but that was still too much for him. We won't let you sacrifice be in vain, I promise, Nariko thought as another volley of arrows landed in their ranks, followed by cries of pain. Gritting his teeth, Nariko launched another Blade of Wind behind himself.
As the chase wore on, he started to feel exhaustion take place and decided to conserve his chakra for the next part of their plan. He kept peeking behind his back and wherever the Rongese army threatened to catch up with their fighting retreat, he ordered his unit to focus their attention, and take it from areas where they were falling further behind. He also ordered Ninjutsu users to stand down for the moment, knowing they strength will be sorely needed. Nariko tried his best to rotate his troops, as the less battle weary units will fight more efficiently. Noticing the terrain surrounding them narrowing down significantly, Nariko gritted his teeth. Everything was going perfectly so far!
As the terrain narrowed down, so did the formations of the Northerners, which had the negative side effect of their formations getting tightly packed before the Rongese, and they didn't ignore the fact. In fact, they made use of it in a way Nariko somewhat begrudgingly admired. For this moment, their casualties outnumbered those of the Rongese and Nariko ordered his troops to withstand this pressure for a bit longer."Men of The North, now is the time to stand firm! Outlast! Endure!" He tried to motivate his men, his eyes starting to recognise the terrain they were now in. Their path was getting narrower.Almost there! You better be ready, Ueda!
Nariko held back his breath as the units on the front of the formation started to get past the pre-agreed point where General Udea's forces would do their part.Just a few more seconds! Come on, come on! Nariko's heart was pounding as he was approaching the point himself. Letting out the breath he held back, he inhaled deeply and fused his chakra. He launched a Great Fireball - not into the advancing Rongese formations, but into the sky. Hoping Ueda recognises the signal, Nariko waited the longest few seconds of his life.
[ The Tokugawa-Senju Dispute | Empire of Akino, Senju-Tokugawa Border ]
[ Hiroshi Hon starts his investigation into the unrest between The Tokugawa and The Senju ]
[ A collab between @RedFox and the amazing @Autumn Song ]
[ Hiroshi meets with the representative of the Unkei Clan, Master Hotaka to investigate the matter hand. He receives a lesson in politics from a far more experienced Hotaka, but his investigations starts to move in the right direction. ]
I should have stockpiled sleep before this. Like, sleep for days, store it someplace safe and use it up now.
Hiroshi rubbed his eyes as he leaned into a chair in the building The Claws moved into. His desk had a large map of the area on it, as well as several scrolls of parchment furled up.I need more information. The Tokugawa already confirmed they're eager to meet, he thought for himself, recapping the good news. Just as he closed his eyes, a knocking was heard on his door." Come in!" Lieutenant Reiko walked in." Captain, we have successfully delivered your invitation to the Unkei operating in the area. To our surprise, they insisted on an immediate meeting. Shall I lead them in?" Straightening in his chair, Hiroshi nodded." At once, Lieutenant. Thank you." Reiko left with a single nod and left immediately. Hiroshi stood up and straightened himself to his full height. I hope this will provide more answers than questions. About a minute later, a knocking was heard again."Come in." The door opened and Lieutenant Reiko walked in, followed by one of the three men he wanted to talk to.
The lieutenant was followed by a man dressed in fine silks. Two Unkei guard followed and took positions close to the representative of the Unkei clan - their masks preventing anyone from observing their expressions.
The representative, however, made no attempt to hide his wariness as he stared briefly at Hiroshi. A minor gesture of respect was followed by the man speaking up.
"Hotaka of the Unkei clan, one of Lord Unkei’s representatives," Hotaka calmly introduced himself as he didn’t wait for Hiroshi’s approval to take a seat. Crossing his legs, the representative continued on. "I believe you had a reason to summon me, while I was conducting the affairs for a lord of the Empire?"
Hiroshi observed the three man entering calmly, and he immediately knew who was the representative of Lord Unkei. The man wearing the finest silk he saw in a long time introduced himself and sat down, his two guards standing at the door. The only present member of The Claws was Lieutenant Reiko.
"Hiroshi Hon, Captain-Commander of The Tiger Claws. It's an honour to meet you, Master Hotaka." He observed the man, thinking about his question.Nobles are always like this, he thought to himself. He sat down as well, leaning forward against his desk." Yes, I do had a reason to summon you. I would like you to elaborate upon the activities You and Your clansman are conducting in this area, for Lord Unkei. I am particularly interested in how they relate to the ongoing situation in this area."
Master Hotaka didn’t answer right away, simply observing Hiroshi. "I simply try to aid brothers and sisters of the real faith, upon the orders of Lord Unkei. This isn’t the first time that the Senju are plagued. We recognise that they are proud people that don’t ask for help. But we can’t simply sit at the sideline while good God-fearing people are molested by," Hotaka paused, "people with wrong beliefs, so to say."
Hiroshi did manage to remain neutral in his facial expression upon the answer of Master Hotaka.Religious nobles. That's even better. He gathered his thoughts on the matter before formulating an answer. " I understand, Master Hotaka. It's indeed a noble cause. But I would like to remind you that there is no one correct or wrong faith in our Empire. One of the pillars of our society is its diversity. There are no wrong beliefs in the Empire, as long as they don't go against the principles of it. " Hiroshi looked at Hotaka for another few seconds." What does your help to the Senju consists of?"
Hotaka gained a wry smile as Hiroshi told him that there was no wrong belief in the Empire. "I would beg to differ," Hotaka began, "It is true that freedom is granted to all. But how can we say that it is fair if we aren’t allowed to spread the word of the one true God? I believe that your people even had some miserable and barbaric responses to good-willing missionaries. However, we aren’t here for a religious debate."
The representative of the Unkei clan considered his answer briefly before answering Hiroshi’s question. "We simply provide aid to those that are suffering. Violence isn’t the answer. It will only beget more conflict, which we don’t aim for. Even if the Senju won’t admit to it, their common folk appreciate our aid in this time of trouble and ‘free’ believing chaos."
Hiroshi felt his emotions slightly rile up at the mentioning of the conduct of the Hon Clan, but he realised that what happened could not be changed. He nodded and decided to leave the topic of religion to be.It would be easier to play fetch with Hirudora than to make any point in a religious debate with you, Master Hotaka, he thought to himself. He carefully listened to the answer to his question. His first instinct was one of disbelief - there had to be something more to it."I understand, Master Hotaka. Violence is not the answer, and while your efforts are admirable, if they are what you say they are, they are often going parallel to the efforts of my men here. In some cases, even interfering with them. I understand you're acting on orders of Lord Unkei, but you also must understand that I'm acting on the orders of The Empress of Akino herself. I'm trying to prevent further violence as well, and to do that, I must come to the root of what sparked this incident to begin with."
"Long may she reign," Hotaka replied as Hiroshi mentioned the Empress. "I fully understand what your mission is, captain-commander. But if you distrust me or my people’s actions, you are free to assign some to supervise our activities. If you can spare that much men, hm?" Hotaka frowned slightly. "But more than what I said can’t prove my or my people’s innocence. So feel free to investigate. I am certain that the common folk will be delighted to hear that the Empress captain-commanders don’t trust those who give aid to fellow worshippers of God."
Hiroshi frowned at the response. He felt like he was banging his head against a wall, hoping to break through it. I'd much rather fight a war on the battlefield, he thought to himself. Master Hotaka was well versed in this area and it showed. Plus he sounds a bit fanatical, he thought to himself." I can spare some of my men to investigate, Master Hotaka. Perhaps I'll even accompany them myself." He looked deep into his eyes." I wish your words would be enough. But sadly, in this situation, they won't do. I need evidence, not words of good faith. If my findings will be in accordance with your words, I am sure the common folk will be delighted to see the Empresses Commanders working with those who aid their fellow worshippers. But until then, Master Hotaka, I must be suspicious. I know you understand."
"My, my,” a disarming smile followed on Hotaka’s lips as Hiroshi stated that he had enough men to spend to investigate further in the Unkei activities. "It is bad manners, Hon, to imply a noble lying. Certainly if you invite me as a guest.” Hotaka said as he calmly leaned back and crossed his legs - none of his demeanor giving the idea that he was intimidated by the more martial prowess commander.
"What if I don’t understand? Nobody complained about Unkei presence. You so far have failed to produce any evidence that we are causing any harm. But we will cooperate. I would be more careful with your accusations though, Commander. Words can reach fast and far. And it would be a shame if they gain a nasty twist.”
Hiroshi narrowed his eyes at the words of Master Hotaka.Is this man implying what I think he is? This question resonated in Hiroshi’s mind upon his words. He did not want to believe it, but there it was.I am already fed up with politics. Commanding troops on the field is much, much easier. With a thought about preferring actual command, he took a deep breath, managing to maintain a calm face."Tread very carefully, Master Hotaka. My job here is to investigate and implications are a part of that. When the Empire’s best interests are at stake, no one is above reproach. And I’d advise you against turning the population against an envoy acting on Her Majesty’s orders, and with her full. Authority. Now, if you pardon me." Hiroshi stood up, giving the noble a brief bow."I have an investigation to run. Should my findings support your words, I will apologize to you personally, Master Hotaka."
Rising up, Hotaka pressed his hands against his back. The disarming smile not vanishing from his features, despite Hiroshi’s veiled threats. "I shall pardon you, commander,” Hotaka replied as he made a small bow with his head before turning on his heels and starting to leave the room. Just before he reached the door, Hotaka came to a halt and half turned around.
"I am looking forward already to your apology, commander,” the words followed by a wide smile before Hotaka and his guards took their leave.
[ Aiko Cho-Hon | Brigade General of the 11th Imperial Brigade, Leader of Team 8 and clan leader of the Cho/Vythlings ]
[ The 11th moves out! ]
The idea of Senju cooperating with Cho in any way was odd. There wasn't any strong rivalry between the clans, at least, not from the Cho's. Their viewpoint on the Senju clan had been reduced from a rivalry to one of amusement and dismissal. The Senju's drop from being a Great Clan was enough proof for many Cho that the Senju were far from a threat these days.
Yet, today would be different. Today, the 11th Imperial Brigade would cooperate alongside Senju forces. An ironic fact, due to how many Cho served within the 11th Imperial brigade. However, Aiko wouldn't oppose the orders to work alongside Senju. It was more preferable to work alongside an old enemy fallen from grace than to be defeated by some slaving and odd enemy, whose habits did disturb many within the 11th Imperial brigade.
As such, the 11th Imperial brigade would move to their positions. The plan was to ambush various Rongese detachments as their main force was going to clash with the 10th and 12th Imperial Brigade. All the while, the Senju would move from their positions to aid with the sudden ambushes. Once the ambushes were completed, all that remained was to ambush the large force from behind and deal as much damage as possible.
Mounting her horse, Aiko felt the odd exhaustion moving through her body. Straightening her back, she gave a glance to the troops that were visible. Most of the 11th's cavalry was held back for the impending charge on the main enemy force. Judging from what she could see, many were excited to do battle with their enemy - to be unleashed upon their enemy, proving what worth they held.
Content with what she saw, Aiko spotted something at the horizon. A large torrent of dark grey smoke reaching to the sky.
It meant that everything was set to motion.
"So, it begins."
The 11th Imperial Brigade
Gwade Rangers
~ @Oblivion666 ~
They remained in cover. Their capes provided not only protection from the weather and temperature but also made it near impossible to see them. Yet, their stealth was only one skill that the Gwade Rangers had perfectioned. Most of them held their bows tight, an arrow already nocked against the bowstring. While they were a unit within the 11th Imperial Brigade, their size didn't match up with an entire battalion. Yet, they were tasked with eliminating a detachment on their own.
In complete silence, they awaited their victims. There wasn't anyone within the unit that bellyached about the situation or seemed too anxious. That and their quarry didn't let them wait for too long.
A column of Rongese soldiers was moving. Their gear betrayed that they were the more veterans of the enemy force. The visible discipline in their formation also betrayed that these weren't the average brutes that seemed to serve the interests of Rong on the field of battle or garrisoning sites. Suddenly, a loud sound moved through the air. In sight came a large beast. Nothing that any of the Gwade Rangers had seen in their homeland or even heard about. The beast was much larger than most creatures that they had seen. With dark grey skin, large ears, a trunk together with massive tusks. The monstrosity was further 'enhanced' by a sort of construction on its back. A platform that seemed to give room for a few Rongese with bows and javelins, to provide some heightened range.
A sharp whistle, however, was followed by chaos and shouts. Suddenly several Rongese veterans dropped to the ground as arrows rained with deadly precision. Even the beast roared as arrows started to pelt it around its eyes and those who stood on top of the platform.
[ Part 2 ]
The explosion worked. It needs sight to track me for the most part. But ...
The recovering Alsanna only needed a portion of a second to adjust her posture upon landing, her attention fully dedicated to the subject presented before her. With the Jirian horde half-ignored despite not only being in range but also an immediate threat to the beast, it passively swatted them away while keeping a fixation onto the Genin, Alsanna could only narrow her perplexed gaze on the Boggart. She didn’t see as perturbed as some, one could even qualify this as unnervingly calm beyond her giddy reaction to the creatures she was brought to work with.
Why me?
It was only when a powerful voice, one that contended with the uproars of war and the screeches of the beasts, that her attention had deviated. The General’s fight with the abominations caught her blue eye, although only briefly as her personal Boggart was going to resume its charge.
Shark. Hah. The orders make more sense now. They also seem vulnerable to damage, if the big guy’s keeping up.
This epiphany of her’s prompted the already drawn feather-kunai on her right hand, which she’d quickly fling onto a recovering Rongese soldier caught in the rampage- one that resembled one of the soldiers her squad had defeated prior- having it merely graze his side. The kunai was laced with some of her chakra with a faint, purple miasma coating it, which in turn ‘cursed’ the one struck. Only a single hand sign and ‘Release’ hand movements prompted two things: The first was Alsanna’s pre-set mark on her abdomen to spawn out one of her Cyto-clones. It did not scream, nor did it make a scene, it merely attempted to pounce the giant’s face as a diversion for Alsanna to scoot and keep distance. The other was to activate the Rongese fodder’s seal, forcing their innate chakra to activate and spawn a purposely non-functional cyto-clone.
If my conclusion is correct, he should become a target. Best case, we can now corral these fucks away from the main forces.
Before the Boggart could even move a bit close, another of the genin spawned and jumped right towards the Beast face. Yet It simply opened it’s jaws and slammed them down right on the upper half of the clone, with the legs falling right to the ground as the Boggart happily chewed away on the clone before swallowing. It still sensed more though. The couple moments of peace though quickly faltered as it grew agitated again as it stared down the Rongese troop and his clone. It bellowed out once more before pouncing on them both crushing both under it’s claws Raising them the Rongese man was dead but the clone still moved which prompted the Boggart To chomp on it’s torso ripping the chest from the waist.
All this commotion though didn't go unnoticed, While Kiro was fighting the other two they suddenly stopped trying to get this elusive man and looked in the direction where more Chakra was being applied. No longer entertained by Kiro they both started marching towards the only other chakra signature which was Alsanna. Seeing this Kiro had a very annoyed look before taking off sprinting, if there was a benefit it was the fact they were slow. Well slower than him anyway. Getting past them and making a beeline towards Alsanna he didn’t even say anything, just lowered his body and hoisted the woman on his shoulders.
”Oh when this over you better have a fucking amazing reason for flipping my rules the bird little girl!” Kiro said getting her away and even he noticed that they weren’t paying attention to the troops only her.
”Actually… I approve of your rule flipping in this one instance. So much in fact you will help me with a plan.” Kiro said, setting her down once they were further away. Off to the side away from any fighting or atleast any fighting that was here was now done, only the dead remaining. Kiro held one of the Rongese swords as he channeled something before looking at her. ”I’m going to make a pit away from everyone. Your job. Lead them to said pit no detours just you leading them to the pit okay?” Kiro said as he could hear the rumbling again as they were homing in on her chakra.
Giving her a pat on the shoulder he moved down the streets weaving handsigns. Once far away from her and the Boggarts he slammed his hands on the ground and before him a wide and deep hole was created.
The experiment ushered in results: Chakra was the main lure for these monstrosities and their simplicity made them predictable. An amused yet somewhat cocky Alsanna grinned in satisfaction, even when she noticed that the whole Boggart troop had eyes on her, but at least the closest took the time to munch away the Rongese clone and the progenitor of said clone. But before she could formulate an approach, the General himself opted to snag her off her feet. To which she’d actually squeak and feel her heart skip a beat.
She was ready to give whatever grabbed her a stab before she recognized the voice. Narrowed eyes squinted back as her body remained rather passive in his shoulder carry, “Tsk. If you don’t want chakra to be used, don’t bring shinobi.” she complained while brushing herself off, the parasol still elegantly held with one hand. “But fine. My idea was to corral them away from the masses anyway since they act like the Shark Skin,” but before Kiro could depart, she’d snap her fingers and raise her voice, “HOWEVER, don’t kill them. These things will raze our troops like a wicked plague if we let them, and I’m going to find the remedy to this problem with your help too,” she had been staring at the direction of the coming stampede, but finally she did peer over at the general’s direction, “Boss.” with a cheeky little grin.
Then came the time to act. Being on the streets, Alsanna employed the free elevation with the nearby buildings, keeping herself safe while having an easy trajectory to the destination. And to be sure the Boggarts kept an eye on her, she even weaved the Dragon hand seal to activate the second form of her Palpitating Murmurs ability. If these monsters got within twenty meters of her, she could actually get some vague insight on their anatomy, and most of all, potentially get a grasp as to what they did with the chakra they were ‘digesting’, even if she couldn’t see the chakra itself.
The fighting back where the main force was was starting wind down, most of the enemy was now being pushed back into whatever hole they could flee too. Their one halting point was their Boggarts but now that they ran after the two people and with no beast master. Things were looking superb for the Jirians but hopeless for the Rongese. Things on the wall seemed basically over too one could spot plenty of Jirian men but few Rongese. This battle was basically over and with few casualties too which made the matter even better for the Jirians. Only things keeping them going was this one more veteran looking Red Cloak barking orders, while these orders were eventually toppled by the numbers it still provided some issues if the man wasn’t taken out.
Kiro stood patiently as the beasts chased after Alsanna, seemingly getting even more excited as she was doing something chakra related. Whatever it was though didn't seem to faze them besides their appetite. Kiro simply waited until she was past the hole and now on his side. Without even thinking about it they just ran straight not even thinking a hole was now under them causing the three of them to go falling down rather violently. Yet then they stopped and looked around them. Both Kiro and Alsanna could just see them drooling before they all opened up their mouths and bite at the rock. Slamming their face and teeth into the surface, they kept biting away at what they thought was just chakra.
Kiro looked down at them with a disappointed look. ”In the end they are just simple minded beasts with an appetite for what seems to be Chakra. What a let down now I really want one of them Vrykyl’s to show up.”
Kiro then looked at Alsanna with a rather serious expression. ”Now two things. First I don’t care how smart you are or claim to be. Never tell me what to do again. Second why shouldn’t I kill them? What do you plan to get out of a beast driven for Chakra?”
The result of Alsanna’s peering into the unknown that was the Boggart anatomy led to a slight faltering of her demeanor. It didn’t actually put a wrench on her trajectory, but her giddy expression turned into one of caution. There was something she saw that made her mind reconsider its position toward the beasts. Before long she had delivered the monsters to their destined ‘grave’, to which she’d bend over to get a good glimpse of the boggarts. And more specifically, their faces.
Is it because I’m below you in rank, or you have personal issues with authority, in spite of your own position?” she did not actually look at the general, instead focusing her fixation more and more onto the beasts. Her ability allowed her to zero-in on some more details, though without direct contact she could not get a full picture. Still, she was learning. “They may be simple, but their anatomy is a marvel to behold.” she’d finally gear her gaze toward the Oda now that the subject piqued her interest, “Creatures that have no chakra control, no grand intelligence or knowledge of chakra yet have a natural ability to sniff out the faintest use of it. Do you not think digging into that sort of ability could be beneficial, General Yuuki?” her visage kept facing the General but her pupils peered downward once more, witnessing the mindless gnawing of the boggarts. “Simple-minded or not, one of these can destroy a platoon effortlessly. Even Jounins would crumble to something like this if it had but a modicum of coordination. Not to mention magnificent meatshields for the frontlines.
As Alsanna and the general lured the beasts away, Hikari was still utilizing the chaos to make her way to the wall. It had taken her some time, by which it seemed like the two sides resumed fighting more properly, now that the bigger threats had been moved away from them.
Having arrived at the wall, Hikari still had her tanto up, and tried keeping an eye out the best she could while she briefly glanced over those who had fallen by it. She believed she saw a glimpse of Nishi before. It took her a moment, but she ended up finding the jounin,
Kneeling down next to Nishi, Hikari looked at her, before standing up and putting herself between Nishi and the ongoing fight. She didn’t know how Nishi was doing, and she didn’t want to risk trying to move her in this chaos. The best she could do was keep her covered.
And after a moment, it seemed like Hikari was noticed, as a Rongese soldier came at her, swinging a hand axe. She blocked it, and the man started repeating the hit over and over. The repeated hit was simple to block, as it was done in the exact same manner, but the force behind it slowly grew with the man’s momentum.
The Rongese bellowed a battle cry as he raised his weapon again, aiming to deliver a lethal blow against the withering defence of Hikari. Before he could, a blade pierced the man’s clothing through his exposed armpit while another arm blocked the Rongese other arm from intervening.
Panting, Nishi narrowed her eyes as she twisted her blade. She witnessed the life in the man’s eyes starting to fade rapidly.
Pulling her weapon out, Nishi breathed heavily as the Rongese collapsed on the ground. She barely gave him a glance as other Jirians started to move in the fortress. Despite standing and trying to keep her back straight, Nishi felt the numbing pain over her body. There was some blood that had crept down from her skull and clouded some of her vision. Raising her free hand, she tried to wipe some of the fresh crimson liquid away from her eyes as she watched how the yard was taken over rapidly by her countrymen.
With the fortress starting to become under control, Nishi noticed Hikari finally in full. Looking around, she couldn’t see either the boggarts of before or Alsanna. Frowning slightly, the jounin grumbled something before her free hand grabbed Hikari by the shoulder. The trembling hand gave away that Nishi’s condition wasn’t fully healthy but there was still some sense of authority in Nishi’s voice and motion.
”Where is Alsanna? That big lumbering beast?” Nishi demanded to know from Hikari.
After seeing the man fall down, Hikari looked at Nishi, who was the one who came to her rescue. The jounin certainly looked bad, and the hand on her shoulder seemed to support how she looked, but her voice still made it clear Nishi wanted straight answers. Looking ahead again, to make sure no one was coming at them, Hikari briefly considered things.
”I don’t know where Alsanna is. But I saw that the beast was chasing her. A few minutes ago it moved away from the area, but with all the chaos it was hard to keep track of where everyone was. I could only tell the beast moved away as its cries became more distant.” She said, before glancing back at Nishi ”It moved towards the outer streets, from how it sounded. If it was chasing Alsanna, then she probably headed there too.” Hikari added, before turning her gaze forward again forward, her tanto raised, as she kept her vigilance.
Nishi growled softly as Hikari’s answer did little to provide any kind of aid. Watching for a moment, she noticed some signs. Following them, the tracks of the rather slow but powerful beasts weren’t that elusive. Their heavy weight and cumbersome movement together with no care for tracks made it easy to keep following them.
Spotting Alsanna together with General Yuuki up ahead, Nishi noticed a pit from which dreadful sounds were produced.
”General, sir,” Nishi began as she threw a glance in the pit. Spotting three of the beasts attempting to eat or scrap some of the earthen wall, Nishi became silent for a second. Were they too stupid to claw themselves out? Their strength should enable it, without a doubt, Nishi thought to herself. Collecting herself, she turned her attention back to the general.
”It seems that the fortress is nearly taken over. What do you desire to do with these… things?” Nishi decided to question, gesturing to the three boggarts.
Well she certainly had a sassy attitude, she was lucky he was more of a laid back commander. Otherwise her back talk would have been punished. Yet as he stared at them biting at the earth as Alsanna seemed utterly enthralled by whatever made them tick he only shook his head. ”A mindless beast is still what it is in the end. Resources to even begin taming one of these things?” Kiro stated as he spotted a slightly battered Nishi walking towards them. Her gaze into the pit said it all as she asked what they planned to do with them.
”Well that's good. Let's make sure the men raise our flag nice and high when we're done. As for these things? Well since your little student seems so enthralled by them.” Kiro started saying before weaving hand seals and tapping his foot on the ground. To his right rose a skull with horns as it glowed bright red. Then it opened its mouth and started spewing Lava down into the hole which Upon hitting the creatures, they roared but started biting at it ravenously. ”There, study 'em while they last. From what I see though? Mindless. Beast.” Kiro said, walking away as the horned skull crumbled away into the pit which had three Boggarst eating away at the lava, parts of their skulls becoming exposed from their flesh melting off. Eventually they sank into the molten liquid, without even a dying whimper.
Mindless but not aimless.” her tone raised while her gloved index pointed up as she posed this observation. Nishi was graced with only a passing glance as Alsanna seemed more keen on keeping the beasts in her line of sight. Although it seemed there wasn’t time for the scholar to make a case for the monsters as the General took action rather quickly. Lava, of all things, was to fill this tomb with the boggarts oblivious to their inevitable fate. “Wh-” the confused Alsanna just blinked, her eyes brought to a squint as the bright, molten fluid reigned in the hole. She scowled at the general, teeth exposed with a clear expression of revulsion, and then she stared over at Nishi with her lips pursed and a gaze that spelled nothing but trouble.
Her scarf had been brought to cover her mouth while she then covered her head and hair with a protective tuque generally used for colder climates or to better defend against gasses. The Boggarts were succumbing quickly to the lava, and so she had to act quickly too. “I’m taking a head. Fuck this feeblemind bullshit. Feel free to help.” once again, she only gave her sensei a mere, quick glance before she jumped in, aiming to land upon one of the beasts’ shoulders while attempting to decapitate the monster. The positive was that their throat would likely be melting as well as their jaw, their limbs also getting a similar fate. The negative was the horrid heat she did her best to endure with her clothing serving as a shield for only so long. Luckily, she did have her Palpitating Murmurs to ease her impromptu ‘surgery’, pinpointing the best approach to sever the head. It was clear she was going to struggle quite a bit if left alone to do so.
Nishi frowned as Alsanna stated that they were free to help, jumping in and trying to decapitate one of the horrors. Not a few seconds after she started her attempt, a stream of water lashed around Alsanna and roughly pulled her out. Utilizing her water whip technique, Nishi held the technique in place to drag Alsanna away from the pit.
"You are an idiot," Nishi stated as she shot a stern look at Alsanna, "We are going to leave." Despite her words, Nishi kept the water whip tightly around Alsanna, clearly intending to not let the girl attempt to jump back in a pit of boggarts and chakra formed lava.
Having followed Nishi and seeing that Alsanna was with the commander, Hikari felt relieved that her teammate appeared mostly unscathed. The beasts in the hole with the lava surrounding them were less than appealing, but it seemed Alsanna had other plans for them. Nishi made it clear what she thought about Alsanna’s jump into the pit, by dragging her out. As the jounin kept her water whip around Alsanna, Hikari approached her teammate.
”When we’re in the clear, please take a look at Hirashima-sensei. I believe she’s pushing herself right now.” She told Alsanna, being completely aware that Nishi could hear her. But she was bleeding, and her grasp earlier was weakened. The jounin was hurt and needed treatment, and Alsanna was right there.
Tunnel-visioned, the doctor of the group would easily be wrangled back to safety as she only realized she was being dragged back a second after the fact, her mind still so eagerly fixated on the task she set out to do. Now a concentrated ball of aggression, she shot a glare at her teacher whilst struggling against the watery binds. A few swings of her blade later and she just conceded with the muffled grunts of the beasts fading in tandem with her tantrum. “Fuck!” she hissed at the world in general.
Teeth clenched and steamy exhales escaping her nostrils, Hikari’s request was processed as slowly as Alsanna’s previous realization. A slow turn of her visage had her stare at the pit of lava, and then she directed with the same slowness toward Nishi, acknowledging the issue at hand. “... Fine. What is it? Got stabbed by some shitstain?” she remained immobile, her hand ‘clenching’ on the whip that bound her.
Scoffing loudly, Nishi began to simply turn and start to drag her immobilized student away from the pit. The sounds of the creatures suffering were far from pleasant. Not to mention, Nishi didn’t trust releasing Alsanna for now.
"Instead of being a dumbass Hikari, you could try to help me instead," Nishi sneered over her left shoulder, "your team mate just jumped into a pit of monsters and lava. And you then just request her to play doctor? Fucking get your act together," the woman further added as she ignored Alsanna’s question. Ignoring the pain, she would continue to drag the genin back to the yard that the Jirian forces had captured.
Hearing Nishi’s response, Hikari frowned. She moved ahead, catching up to Nishi and Alsanna, before looking at Nishi in silence for a moment. What did the jounin expect her to do? Grab the water whip from her? Without saying a word, she moved to behind Alsanna and began pushing her teammate forward, to lessen the effort on Nishi’s part.
While doing so, she leaned a bit towards Alsanna’s ear ”She got thrown by one of those beasts and hit the fort wall. But I guess I’m too much of a dumbass to know when people should be looked at when I say ‘In the clear’.” She muttered to Alsanna, before glancing back at Nishi.
Being ‘dragged’, Alsanna tried to keep up with the rhythm with a clumsy gait, “I can walk. They’re drowned in the lava now. You can let go before you pass out.” she uttered with all her grump. Although her stiff posture relented a tad as she leaned her head to the side when Hikari went to share some information. “Don’t touch me, by the way,” she just stared at her wounded teacher, lower jaw shifting from side to side, “and you’re the least dumb among us today, blondie. Get her to sit down before that internal bleeding makes her trip like a fool.
Panting slightly, Nishi kept going on stubbornly. Only when she reckoned the distance was far enough or there was nothing left likely from those monsters did Nishi release the technique. She fought against the desire to lean forward and give in against the exhaustion or pain. The fortress was being secured and there was nothing that hinted that there was some sort of fighting going on. Large numbers of Jirians flooded in and out of the fortress.
Despite this being a victory, Nishi’s lips curled downwards as she witnessed the clear signs that they were observing the aftermath. Half turning to her students, Nishi frowned.
"Today was trash."
She fought against the desire to lean forward and give in against the exhaustion or pain. The fortress was being secured and there was nothing that hinted that there was some sort of fighting going on. Large numbers of Jirians flooded in and out of the fortress.
Despite this being a victory, Nishi’s lips curled downwards as she witnessed the clear signs that they were observing the aftermath. Half turning to her students, Nishi frowned.
"Today was trash."
A visibly annoyed, petite creature raised its hands to tap it over Nishi’s shoulder. Alsanna’s ever so expressive eyes once again dove oito the jounin’s being, sniffing out the potential wounds and anomalies during that brief moment of contact. Nishi herself felt this invasive ability and could associate it with the first sensation quite easily. “You’ll end up less than trash if you stand around watching the scenery. You’ve got a ruptured spleen.
The physician sighed, clearly not hastened by this news, “Gonna need somewhere clean to fix that, and patch up the rest.” she peered over at Hikari’s direction, “Any medical tents nearby? Something less crowded, preferably.
Hearing Nishi’s comment, Hikari personally disagreed. They all made it out alive, for now. Although Nishi definitely needed treatment, according to what Alsanna stated. A ruptured spleen sounded rather dangerous. Looking around, Hikari tried to see if any medical tents had already been set up in the area.
While not spotting any tents that were set up, she did spot soldiers that began securing the structures in the streets around the fort ”I don’t see any tents yet, but it looks like the buildings are being secured. Perhaps you could utilize one of those?” Hikari suggested, before continuing to look around. A moment more, and she spotted near the gates, several soldiers that were in the process of setting up tents ”I see some tents being set up closer to the gate. Can’t say for sure if it's medical or not from here, but I can go check. Which would be better?” She asked, glancing towards Alsanna.
The invasive technique of Alsanna would have met violence from Nishi. However, the woman remarkably didn’t lash out and make the genin pay for his intrusion. Still facading that she wasn’t in pain or exhausted, Nishi frowned. The tables were turned on her and it was frustrating Nishi.
"The buildings are likely a better choice. They provide more security and comfort than tents," Nishi answered, her tone betraying her dismay at the whole situation. Throwing a look at Alsanna, Nishi’s frown remained on her brow.
"Also, now that I don’t need to pull you from a pit of lava and horrors. Why the absolute Divine fuck did you want to collect a head?"
Vulnerability, that too was sniffed out, if only through the physical signs of it. Alsanna did not make any verbal or non-verbal reaction to it, instead looking as focused as she was with the beasts. “A building? If you can secure it. That’s a simple enough task for you, Blondie? Give the ol’ stabby-stabby to any baddy-baddy.” she clicked her tongue once she removed her hand from Nishi’s being, now preparing for her next task. Work gloves switched for disposables that were as clean as they could get. Her tuque and crisped top also purged, revealing first degree burns throughout her arms and neck.
When a spot was secured for them, she’d prepare a mask for the upcoming procedure. “Because they had something I deemed very useful to our endeavours. But, once again, the limits imposed on us are seldom truly from our enemies.” she rambled, setting her medical pouch nearby. “Describe your pain to me.
Hearing the responses from both Nishi and Alsanna, Hikari nodded and started jogging away towards the buildings, aiming to find a vacant and secured one that could be used for Alsanna, without interruption. It took her talking to a few other soldiers before understanding which building could be used, among the ones that were already secured, and Hikari made her way back to the two.
”I know which building you can utilize with enough privacy. It was secured a couple of minutes ago, and I’ll help keep watch outside, to ensure no one comes to disturb you or no baddies come at us.” She stated, gesturing towards a building that was a short walk away. There were still numerous soldiers in the street, going into the next building as they began securing that one.
Nishi’s expression shifted. "The fuck are you both on about?” Nishi shifted her gaze from one genin to the next. "You want to know my pain? I am in pain. I don’t know how else you want me to describe this shit. And you,” Nishi shifted her attention to Hikari, "you are going to keep watch? You? Against what? Rats? Fucking hell,” Nishi muttered as she raised a hand to squeeze the bridge of her nose for a moment.
"Just, just follow me.” Nishi instructed the genin. Instead of just going around, Nishi approached one of the soldiers and requested where they had set up the medic tents or bays. The soldier called in a buddy of his, who had the answer. Pointing Nishi to a building, the two soldiers were thanked by Nishi who turned back to her genin. Judging from her expression and subtle gesture, it was clear what she conveyed: “see how simple that was? Dumbasses.”
Approaching the small building, Nishi opened the door as there were some countrymen laid on beds as medics were occupied in treating them. Finding an empty bed, Nishi laid down and threw a suspicious glare at the genin.
"Now I am not so sure if I want either of you to treat me.”
It’s that bad, huh?” the moods had shifted, Alsanna was more composed, even a bit taunting with her tone, now that she had something to focus on. Once again, she touched Nishi, and this time she could feel the pain the woman underwent. Not just a descriptive, oh no, she felt it throughout her body the same way Nishi did, as if they shared a nervous system. When a proper area was selected by Nishi’s own push, the half-Sayyadian made base around the selected bed, setting her tools and medicine that were previously in her pouch upon the various abandoned furniture she now surrounded the bed with. “You’d rather some rando treat you than yours truly? Absolutely offended! Save it for when you’re not in mortal danger.
She first reached for some ointment, as well as a marker, “Lie on your stomach, Nishi.
And yet again, Nishi called them by names. Was she really that annoyed with them for trying to look out for her? Hikari followed in silence until they were in the medic bed, and looked as Nishi chose a bed for herself, before giving a remark that made no sense to Hikari. She never once said she’d try treating her. And not letting someone with medical experience look after her also made no sense.
”I was going to make sure no one disturbed Alsanna as she treated you. Since that is something that is needed, right? for a medic to be able to concentrate? But fine, if you find my attempts at helping here so idiotic and futile, I’ll go find something else to do. Wouldn’t want to be here to potentially distract Alsanna anyway.” Hikari stated, her frustration with Nishi’s own behavior being conveyed in her tone, as she turned and started walking away.
Laying on her stomach, Nishi’s mood still seemed to be quite low. "Oh yeah, don’t forget to say that you’re guarding. Who knows? You may even impress someone for five full seconds,” the jounin stated in a cynical tone as Hikari stated she would try to make sure nobody would disturb Alsanna. Now that Hikari took her leave, Nishi turned her foul mood on the remaining pupil.
"I swear. I will break every bone in your body if you do any weird stuff. Put any kind of seal on me and you will regret it,” Nishi began, her tone giving away that none of her threats was empty. "In fact, I am really considering to request an actual professional to have a look at me.” Looking around, it became clear that Nishi was on the verge to rise up and do as she said.
Keep a watch outside, I may need you for something.” no eye-contact, but she was clearly addressing Hikari. In that process, she was marking where she’d perform her incision ypon Nishi’s body, right under the rib cage where a bruising was visible. “If I do funny things to you, you won’t be able to do anything,” she responded as casually as ever while she filled a syringe with a fluid, “but for now we’ll work with local numbing. Besides, marking a fuinjutsu master would be quite dumb.” if there wasn’t any resistance, she’d apply the anaesthetic to the area she’d operate on. “A professional? But I’m oh so qualified. Heck, I’m probably the best for the job, given what I can see!” she smiled under her medical mask. She now wielded a scalpel though she didn’t commence just yet, “Are you afraid, Nishi?
She wouldn’t resist. Regret was welling up as Nishi reckoned that there were other medics about, capable of helping her. The idea to put her fate in the hands of Alsanna was something she felt far from comfortable with. However, the pain and exhaustion were really getting to her.
"Afraid that you’re going to mess up. Yeah,” Nishi half-sneered at the genin. She threw a look at the masked Alsanna, wielding a scalpel. The sight was far from calming Nishi. "I will haunt you for real, Alsanna,” Nishi said as she attempted to calm down. Yet, her mind was racing with doubt and frustration. Getting operated by a genin, who had been imprisoned and not long before attempted to gain a boggart’s head? And now that same genin was attempting to aid her.
"I swear, the Divine has it out for me.” Nishi mumbled as she closed her eyes.
I know the pain sucks. But, think for a moment. Did I ever mess up to the point of compromising you? Myself, sure, but you? Nay.” while she spoke, she started her incision. The cut was actually quite small, just enough for her to see the perforation that needed to be closed. A few more cuts to get through the fatty and muscle tissue, and she could start adjusting the organ to have an adequate visual. “You don’t die. This isn’t exactly high risk. Worst case, I remove the spleen.” she was focused now, employing sutures and clamps to get the job done as neatly as possible. Her equipment didn’t provide everything she needed for proper surgery, but it had to do.
Hmm.” she looked to the side, noticing no medical workers nearby, and then to the other to see if Hikari was lingering. There was nobody, and so she spoke up. “Cut this shit, Nishi. You’ve seen the war but you’re losing your cool over a few booboos. And, as much as I agree with some of the things you say, you need to fucking chill with Hikari’s case. She may be some dumb blonde broad, but we’re stuck with her. And as odd as it may sound from me, but I have to remind you, she’s also a human being.” her speech did nothing to impede her progress- it actually looked as though she focused even more while she kept her mouth busy, only pausing once near the end of her take on her colleague.
Nishi remained quiet for a few seconds as Alsanna berated her, over losing her cool. "You two have seen and experienced nothing,” Nishi responded, more calmly as she seemed to accept her fate of being treated by the genin. "I will chill once the both of you have realised how stupid you either sound.” Becoming silent for a few seconds again, Nishi felt restless. She wouldn’t move or walk away as that was going to complicate the surgery more. But it was just some desire to not let someone have a decision over her body. It didn’t feel right.
"I may be harsh, true. But it is for a reason. I am not going to sugarcoat and have either of you become dimwitted idiots that can’t be relied upon.”
A strand of stitch was pulled up to its limit before she’d employ a scissor to sever it. An inspection was made to see if the handiwork was adequate with the lack of additional measure confirming her contentedness. “She didn’t sound particularly stupid this time. And I’m doing as I’m expected to. You are letting something get to you,” and there, she stopped her procedure to peer over at Nishi’s visage, “just like when we were about to charge into battle. Rattled composure, heart rate undergoing a subtle but noticeable enough change.
Now was time to close up, although the consultation wasn’t over as Nishi was indeed covered in wounds, though for now she made sure the critical task was completed proper, “You could be a bit less of a cunt. Just a teeny, tiny bit. In exchange I’d be less of an ass. Now I personally like this toxic symbiosis, but it’s going to end up crashing down with the normal gal added to the mix. Not telling you to drop the hardass, I’m suggesting you stop spitting venom. No need to sugarcoat.
Inhaling slowly Nishi fought against the desire to get up and walk away. "Are we really having such a conversation? I thought you were going to fix me up? Or do you engage in meaningful exchanges with all of your patients?” Nishi replied, yet her tone was less offensive like before. "It seems that I also need to remind you as Hikari , who hads the experience and rank to lead. Just do your job and I may even consider your suggestion,” the woman replied in turn. Her expression shifted, betraying that she was far from content that they were having such a conversation at a moment like this.
Only those I I have an interest in.” she replied right away, her tone somewhat dry. Nishi’s clothing was adjusted to allow Alsanna to get a better view of her back now that the spleen issue was resolved. “A few broken ribs, nothing too serious, may need to keep it cool for a bit.” nonetheless, she rubbed some of the ointment she had brought in from her ‘friend’, quite the high-end stuff. The effects were not instant-healing or anything of the sort, but rather it did a great job in numbing the pain and revitalizing the cells in the area for a more proper recovery with a lower chance of chronic pain. “The way you talk to her, though, it goes beyond the no-bullshit. It feels like you truly do hate her. She’s done dumb shit but she is just a dumb kid.
She then moved on to the legs, far less compromised than the core, but still with its own bruising. For now she just inspected the limbs. “Sorry if I spooked ya’, by the way.
It remained silent for another few seconds. Nishi placed her hands underneath her head as she stared at the side. A soft scoff escaped Nishi before she replied back at Alsanna.
"I actually don’t. I just have… high expectations.” Nishi said, her tone calm but the pace betraying a certain hesitation. "And you did, you absolute moron. Who jumps in a pit with three monsters that are trying to gobble lava?” Nishi didn’t give Alsanna much chance to respond to the question. "I will try to be less… harsh. Try, being the keyword here.”
Shifting her head slightly, she tried to gain a sight on what Alsanna was doing. Not able to gain a proper sight, Nishi frowned once more.
"Seriously, am I dying that we have such a conversation? If so, I would rather have it ending fast. Or have an actual priest give me the last rites.” The jounin started before visibly becoming more restless. "Else I should move back to that pit… seems a fast way to go.”
High expectations. That’s fair, so do I. Which is why we’re having this talk. You’re a leader, not a boss. Hikari probably thinks you hate her. This is why I’m saying this. Admittedly you’d have reason to with that history, hah.” one of Nishi’s legs was lifted and made to flex, making sure no tendons or bones were compromised. “But no, you’re definitely not dying. I’m too competent for that. I do, however, have you somewhat at my mercy,” she snickered, making the jest obvious to avoid any complications, “so I’m being a bit more liberal here. That and I can now confirm you are indeed a human being and not some manifestation from the government to apply divine retribution upon me.” as she said this, it’d be the third time they’d be ‘united’ in this bizarre, somewhat electrical way, although it felt far less invasive, as if Alsanna was purposely teasing this time.
As for who does that? Someone who can make hard decisions, of course. Even if the potential gain isn’t always all that worth it. I figured you had your water abilities to prevent the worst.” the second leg was given the same treatment, although she seemed a bit more methodical there as if she had spotted something.
"She is actually and honestly one of the worst of that horrible group,” Nishi admitted, "however, she needs to understand things better. Dumbass should have just approached some people and asked questions, not try to make assumptions. It isn’t like our countrymen wouldn’t answer a few simple questions.” Nishi further added, her irritation briefly surfacing. The fact that Alsanna had some decision over her, did little to improve Nishi’s mood. If anything, the jounin despised the situation more than she would let on. Her irritation grew when she felt the sensation that Alsanna probed with her particular technique.
"I can still apply some retribution upon you. I hardly need a reason with you. Seeing how many already see you as a witch.” Nishi stated before posing a question in return regarding the matter. "Which I must ask. Doesn’t it bother you? That you are being regarded as a social pariah? Surely, it must sting that many don’t already like you before having met you.”
The answer of jumping in the pit of lava made Nishi scoff once more. "You are crazy. That wasn’t a hard decision, it was a stupid one. You also relied on me helping you out. Against another jounin? I may, yes. But against the damned general? You sure are stretching my kindness.”
Behind her mask, Alsanna sucked in her cheek while Nishi continued to discuss Hikari’s case, ending with a little ‘popping’ sound. After a bit of manipulation, the bent leg was made to rest, seemingly fine in the end. “How does a mind like mine stand toward the collective wit of the chaff? I think I’ve answered your question there, actually.” her tools were all tossed into a disposable container while she removed her mask so she could take a cool and relieving inhale. “Although I suppose I’m just talking shit. You’re asking someone who chose to go to this shithole over staying a bit longer in prison and then willingly jumped in a lava pit for the sake of research. Maybe I’m a little crazy, or I simply don’t care about some things. Stay lying down, by the way, for a moment at least.
It was now her turn to get some treatment, as the red marks on her arms and neck didn’t seem quite enjoyable either. The same ointment was applied to them, although Alsanna didn’t manifest even the slightest hiss when treating her wounds, “I did as the General asked, so you wouldn’t have to face him. I conducted research while I still could. I was just hoping you’d help. Which you did, I’m not going to whine. But it is unfortunate that I’m finding our leadership to be … Oh so resistant to new ideas.” she sighed somewhat dramatically whilst smearing some of the lotion on her nape.
The fact that so far nothing seemed to go wrong was causing mixed emotions with Nishi. The woman was anticipating some pain to make her writhe and desiring death to end the agony. But nothing of the sort happened. Listening to her pupil’s response, Nishi scoffed. "I fear that we all are becoming a bit crazy. I am letting myself be operated by a mere genin. A girl who is distrusted by nearly all.” Nishi stated. She would become a few seconds silent before speaking up again.
"You should praise the leadership, so far. I have served under far more brutal leadership that would have thrown you in the pit after being filled with some lava. Simply for questioning or bothering them in some kind of mundane way.” Nishi stated, recalling the previous regimes that had been far more brutal. And not always in the most logical of sense.
"Besides, I wouldn’t let you become a weird crisp. It would be a waste of talent if I let you get hurt in there. I suppose.” Nishi tried to relax her body as much as she could. "We can use every medic in this damned conflict. Certainly seeing how they seem to have weird beasts that can just smack me aside.”
[ Part 2 ]
Distrusted by people who don’t even know what I look like. You know better.” super sun-screen applied, she returned to tending to Nishi. A large gauze was applied over the stitched incision over the spleen to protect it. She’d also start the somewhat awkward process of wrapping ointment-covered bandages around Nishi’s upper core, “I’m going to need you to help me a little with this. May want to handle your chest area too before I get branded like they do in prisons.” although Nishi would find it actually difficult to move in her position now that her damaged ribs were starting to hurt.
Why should I praise leadership that still has obvious flaws? I won’t spit on it, sure, but just because you took it up the ass for the longest time and took decades to rebel doesn’t mean I gotta suck up.” she ranted, her palm now applied over Nishi’s back, slowly running it down the spine as she sought any subtle anomaly she may have missed. “Don’t move. Try raising your knee upward, like a kick, even if your position makes it awkward. Tell me if something feels off.” she was focused again while taking her time, as if she wasn’t too keen on moving to another patient. “I know you wouldn’t.” she paused for a moment, “Are you thirsty?
"I know better. It is why I also asked. Cause it can sting at a certain point.” Nishi said on turn. "Though, I have never been called a witch. Murderer? I think that one was the worst. Didn’t hurt, at first. But eventually, it will catch up and become a bother. It is a matter of time.” Nishi replied calmly.
Upon Alsanna requesting to help, Nishi would do so without problem. The response regarding leadership caused Nishi to lock her eyes with Alsanna. "So, you say that you would rebel if you had the capability? Intriguing. A political witch.” Nishi said as she attempted to raise her knee. It went fine but there was some aching. Nothing too painful, so she decided to not inform Alsanna regarding it.
"You are getting really comfortable with the idea that I will save you.” Nishi said, her tone less happy before she spoke softer. "Perhaps I am already growing softer. And no, I am not thirsty. Unless you can manage to obtain some wine. Or sake. Either would be great.”
Alsanna kept quiet for a while now that the aching was manifested. Her palms were now directed to the pelvic area where, instead of being all touchy, she focused her ability instead. “Slight dislocation of your pelvis. Get it checked by a specialist, or you’ll end up unable to jump or walk up hills in a month or so. A few sessions would fix it.” her tone was more professional and usual and her gaze rather absent. This was until she had finished her diagnosis, then she could process the information shared.
A murderer and a booze fiend. Ironically, your position made those two quite obvious. But there is a certain power in hearing it. It just makes it so … Real!” she smirked, whipping out a small tablet from her set pouch along with her half-full bottle of water. “For the pain, take it, you’ll probably need it if we’re to return to camp soon.” although before Nishi could get a sip, Alsanna took some for herself too. “But me, political? Hah. Certainly not as some activist or agitator. I’m too useful and can create useful things to do something so dull. If I have a problem, I make sure I create a situation where my word has to be considered. I’m not gonna rebel over dipshits being dipshits, though, Nishi.” she sat upon the bed next to Nishi, who would still find movement quite difficult between the aching and numb, “I am truly intrigued now. How can a shinobi be called a murderer? It’s essentially required in the resume.
Frowning upon Alsanna smirking and her reaction, Nishi waited before she was given the bottle of water. Taking a sip, Nishi’s expression immediately became one of disappointment. But she didn’t voice it as she took some sips before lowering the bottle again.
"You are a weird one,” Nishi said as Alsanna took a seat next to her. If she could, Nishi would have risen up and walked away. But in her current state, that wouldn’t work. Not to mention, Alsanna could easily keep up and for a longer period, no doubt. Cursing mentally her situation, Nishi took another sip of the bottle before she spoke again.
"You will understand eventually. There is a silver lining in taking a life on the field of battle or line of duty. And taking life in a different way. Or place, I guess.” Nishi responded. She reckoned that the answer wouldn’t sate Alsanna’s curiosity but the jounin wasn’t going to just relent that fast either. Already, Nishi threw a look to see if someone else was trying to listen in or getting too close for comfort. Spotting none, Nishi felt once more the desire to rise up and walk away.
"Besides, you don’t want to hear old stories. You are far more interested in taking the head of some monster to then examine it.”
While the jounin spoke, Alsanna went on to down the rest of the water, gorging herself after a long day’s work near blazing hot magma. “You make a good point. One I understand a bit more that you’d think.” she turned her head and peered down, giving the smallest of smiles to the jonin, “I didn’t actually murder anyone in cold blood, in case you think I’m actually unhinged.” and after the bottle, she tossed over a familiar cereal bar, this one with milky frosting on it, high quality stuff, again, right in front of Nishi’s face and next to her pillow, “You don’t quite know what I’m interested in. I like whatever piques my curiosity and I think I can make something better out of it. What makes you think this is any different, Nishi?” she went for a bite on her own cereal bar, which she’d loudly manifest her joy with every gnaw.
For a moment, Nishi was confused when Alsanna produced cereal bars. She recognised those as having enjoyed them before but in the likes of Kirigakure. How was it that Alsanna had acquired them? While Nishi suspected that the genin stole them from likely the quartermasters or supplies, the jounin decided to not act upon it. It was going to be a matter for another time.
"Ironically, I don’t think you are that unhinged. Despite that I dislike it at times, you sport some intelligence. And that is also what makes me distrust you. Unlike those that came before you, you are sporting intelligence. And that is far more dangerous than some annoying bloodline ability,” Nishi calmly stated as she placed her hands behind her, trying to lean slightly backwards.
"So you are now interested in me? You want to make something better out of me? Is that what this conversation is leading to?” Nishi decided to retort, a modicum of amusement and wariness awkwardly mixing together.
The dangers of infinite potential, huh? Can be great, can be terrible. Unlike, as you said, a bloodline ability. Does one thing, usually badly in every situation except a few.” a snicker escaped her while her legs swung about under the bed’s frame, “My actions will not lead to any issues to the team, anyone else or to our goals. I am competent before intelligent. Me burning in lava would have still been a mission complete otherwise. Although I’m sure that pseudo-dislike you have of me, I’m sure that loss wouldn’t beckon an extra bottle.” and with that came quite the sassy grin as she once again glanced at the jonin.
Truthfully, I’m naturally going to be brought to know more about those I’m made to live around. So, yes, I’d like to have a superior that isn’t re-enacting bad leadership habits because some psycho dipshit taught you as much. I won’t learn any better by you bitching at me or saying it nicely. Unsure about Hikari, so that’s kinda why I dropped that bomb earlier. She seems to be reaching her limit in terms of patience.” her hand rose to brush her hair back, clear sweat had since accumulated on her forehead, “Are you looking forward to going back home, Nishi?
Nishi’s expression was one of slight discontent as Alsanna spoke further. But not much else betrayed the woman’s thoughts on Alsanna’s words. "And this is why I may indeed pseudo-dislike you. You are such a talker, it is a wonder that someone hasn’t tried to shut you up before.” Nishi replied first. She glanced at herself but then shook her head lightly. "I wish that I hadn’t attempted to shield either of you before. Not able to get away from this questioning is the real torture,” the woman stated before answering Alsanna’s question, "I don’t really. What is awaiting me in Kirigakure? A place where I can get some rest before I need to train you or Hikari? Before being sent off to fulfill a mission? This damn Divine forsaken Sevudia may lack some facilities. But it is in essence nothing worse than Kirigakure or what you may call home.” Nishi said, refusing to look at her pupil.
"So, what about you? Are you longing to go back? Getting homesick already?”
Your colleague tried, and succeeded. Some others have, and some succeeded.” out of reflex, she rubbed her chin upon reflecting on the facts she had uttered. Snapping back to reality a few seconds later with a shake of her head, she could only giggle at Nishi’s discontent, “For someone so cold on the outside, you sure take a beating for those you spew venom onto. Hah.” and then came the home discussion. Lips were pursed when she processed Nishi’s reponse, but when the question was actually posed back, Alsanna didn’t answer as quickly.
Lips pushed out, she raised her energy bar to take a bite off it. She stared at nothing, ever slowly narrowing her eyes in deep muse. “Hmmm, nope,” she suddenly chirped, almost gingerly so, “but I’d rather be elsewhere than here. I can’t even get something interesting go-”she blinked, now looking around her within the building they had acquired, among many other buildings contained in this conquered fort. “Actually you may be right, urban Kirigakure may very well be overrated.
Nishi opted to not further reply or talk about the previous topic. The right side of her lips tugged slightly and briefly downwards upon being called cold. Unable to go anywhere, Nishi listened to Alsanna’s answer.
"It is, in a sense. Big cities can be marvelous. When you, however, live in them? It becomes a totally different story. While this place sucks, Kirigakure isn’t that much better. I think it is also mostly because it is so dreary. There are too few places that really make Kirigakure shine and interesting." Nishi answered as she considered other places she had visited, due to missions but still. Then again, she was also okay with Kirigakure for being what is. Change or additions could be annoying or worse, after all.
"So, now that we are talking anyways. And without too much spite as well," Nishi began, "what is your aim actually? Some kids dream of joining the Seven Swordsmen or some used to dream about becoming the Mizukage. I don’t think or perhaps remember what really is your future goal."
Yes, may as well return to the bucolic embrace of peasantry while we’re in ass nowhere, huh? The pursuit of happiness is a strange one.” she gestured in dismissal, rolling her eyes, “This place does suck, though. I hate it. So, I’m thinking of spicing it up a tad.” she made sure Nishi could see the smirk on her visage, ensuring that her questionable motives were very much known by the woman who couldn’t do much about it right now.
Although this little pest phase came to a stop when a personal question was dropped, prompting the half-Sayyadian to tilt her head in suspicion, eyes narrowed, “Yeah, because I didn’t tell you. My gooooooals ...” she tapped her chin with her index, her musing posture clearly exaggerated, “Well, one of them is to finish this bar.” which she did, wolfing down the rest of the crumbs in the wrapper before she callously tossed the junk away, “And then I’ll probably one up every one of you turds at literally everything.” she winked.
Almost immediately, Nishi felt the need to keep the genin where she was. The idea of her spicing things up together with her reputation? It was far from a good combination. Seeing the smirk, the woman cursed her situation even more silently.
"One up every one of us turds, at everything?" Nishi couldn’t fully hide her amusement at the answer. Certainly because she wasn’t even sure if it was a serious reply.
"That is rather lame. I had expected something more unique from you. Something actually exciting. Surpassing us ‘turds," Nishi responded, placing a certain emphasis on the last word, "is just so overrated and empty. Come on, you are more original than that. So, what is it?"
Oh she was very much amused to see how her sensei reacted, and it’d be quite strange to see her barely push on in this taunting, instead mellowing a bit and tackling the more personal subject instead. Her gaze didn’t stay on Nishi, as she’d instead let herself fall over on her back, barely impacting Nishi’s calves as she rounded her back to ensure her patient wasn’t hurt.
I mean, I did say that was my goal right after eating. So, considering that, it’s probably easy stuff for a megalomaniac such as yours truly,” she giggled, “but you seem intrigued. Way more than usual. Are you scared I’ll do something dumb? Because I will. It’s inevitable that I’ll do risky things.” she sucked in her cheek for a moment, keeping silent, “I want to create something truly beautiful. Something never before seen. Something … Inconceivable! Like a kimono … With pants!” double thumbs up.
Unable to contain a chuckle upon hearing the last, Nishi shook her head. "And also add pockets to it? That is going too far, even for you." Nishi replied. It did become silent for a second before Nishi spoke again.
"I am not scared you’ll do something dumb. You have already proven that you’re willing to do something dumb, like jumping in a pit of lava and three horrors. I don’t think I know anybody else that would have done such a thing."
For a second, Nishi considered trying to try standing up. But eventually opted against it, not wanting to exert too much energy for now.
"I am curious cause you’re my pupil. But if you want to joke around and not be too serious, it is okay. I don’t really mind it if you haven’t figured out what you really want. Cause I doubt anyone would want a kimono with pants or pockets, sorry to burst that bubble."
And you thought the clones were bad. If you reach for that scalpel over there,” she pointed over at the night table though her visage stayed fixed at the ceiling, “you’d be the hero of Sevudia! Hehe.” shifting about, she rested on her side so she could have a better view of Nishi’s frame.
But I was truthful. Just hyperbolic on my illustrations. I am someone that learns fast and is only content by making my own, unique things,” Nishi could feel, even if slightly, the familiar air her Juinjutsu manifestation made when the intent was moulded into Alsanna’s palm. It was brief and faded rather quickly, “but I am not above inspiration of course, I just tend to improve upon what I see!
A chuckle or snicker didn’t escape Nishi as she threw a glance at the scalpel. For a moment, all that Nishi could feel was her stomach turning, causing a painful and familiar feeling to be brought up.
"I see. That isn’t all too bad, yeah," Nishi responded to the more truthful answer of Alsanna. "Even though I must admit that you’re likely the first genin I have met that has such an interest in kinjutsu. Most tend to acknowledge the dangers and steer clear from it. Including myself, actually, for a long while." The jounin released a sigh as she threw a look at the opening of the small building. Was Hikari still holding her ‘watch’?
"But what if you come across something that doesn’t want or can’t be improved?" Nishi decided to ask, throwing a look now at the girl, "even kinjutsu has its limits, I wager."
Kinjutsu?” she sneered at the word, the edge of her lip twitching at the notion, “They’re only forbidden because some turds said so. Anything can be a Kinjutsu. I just make things people assume to be bad. Which is good. That way they steer clear of ME.” she exhaled from her nose, looking a bit frustrated.
Nothing’s perfect, anything can be changed and consequently improved, although whether it is improved or not is only determined by, well, me.” Alsanna tapped her chest upon referring to herself, “But some things do have their limits, yes, and yet when they expire something new can come about. Or they can be used as a mere component for something greater. There’s ALWAYS something to be done, modified or learned about something, I say. I didn’t even graduate the academy when I made, well,” she so subtle hovered her slowly wiggling fingers as if she was preparing to seize something, “these beauties I know better than to conjure in public. They’re a new take on an overdone clone jutsu, and in my opinion, a far more useful one.
