[ Miyoshi Yuki | Republican ANBU ]
[ Operation: Darkened Eyes ]
[ ???? | Unknown! ]

A feeling of pain started to take hold of her. It moved from her head down to her neck, creeping further down her spine. Gaining more conscience, Miyoshi didn't open her eyes right away. The mere fact that she was alive meant something. Listening on her surrounding, she had trouble to register all the different sounds. Something was cracking and softly moaning, though not humanoid. Her body felt like she wasn't on solid ground, but Miyoshi wasn't entirely sure if that was due to the pain in her head or other factors.
Regulating her breath, she very subtly tried to move her arm and fingers. Instead finding out that there was something strong keeping her fingers and arms in place. Weaving any hand signs? Not possible. Mentally sighing, she recognised the danger of her captors being aware they could be dealing with a nin. Or, at least, with someone that had understanding how ninjutsu was used.
Carefully, Miyoshi opened her eyes slightly. The dark was welcome as it didn't hurt her eyes. In the dim light that she found herself in, she could see the rope that kept her in place. Laying on her side, she noticed that she was put behind some bars. Glancing through her eyelashes, Miyoshi noticed the source of light that was present. A lantern on a table, while a man seated close to it. His gaze meeting hers.

"Finally, awake, huh?"

The man's accent was thick and odd, but Miyoshi realised once more who had captured her. A taste of bile came up as her stomach twisted. To be captured by dimwitted barbarians that only seemed to understand violence? It was an utter disgrace, in Miyoshi's opinion.
The man rose from his seat, walking to the bars. The various tattoos that Miyoshi had spotted looked heathens, devilish. And now that he blocked the dim light, he seemed more than ever a servant of the Shadows.

"The quiet type, huh? Don't worry, so were those before you. But we made them talk. Very loudly, I should add."

Resisting the urger to glare daggers at the man, Miyoshi wondered why Chonobi were so daring to raid a Republican vassal. Their inferior longships were perhaps some worth but nothing compared to a Republican war vessel. Or was the barbarian's thirst for violence too much? Had it caused them to become even more deranged?

"You just lay there pretty, miss Silence. I will inform the boys that you're awake. Been some time since we had fun, after all."

After those words, the barbarian walked away from the bars. Eyeing where the man left towards, Miyoshi's brain started to work harder than it had done before - even if it did hurt her.
Realising that she was a captive of those damned heathens, she realised something. One trick up her sleeve could help out, but she had to use it at the correct time. Or else, they would kill or suppress her ability to mould chakra.

Placed on a chair, Miyoshi stared at the man that sat across from her. A tattoo of some weird design seemed to crawl from his neck to the right side of his face.
"You work for the Republic, yes?"
Miyoshi didn't answer. She just stared at the man, and sometimes, she briefly glanced at the few armed men behind him. Only to turn her gaze back at the man that addressed her.
"Who has sent you?"
The question remained unanswered.
"Very well. If you don't talk, then we will pry it from you. Madoc," the man said as he rose from his seat. One of the other men stepped forward, looking at the man that had spoken before.
"Search her memories. Drag the answers out of them if you have to. We got enough wares anyways."
This 'Madoc' nodded and turned to Miyoshi. Walking towards her, his right hand shot towards Miyoshi's head. Placing his palm against her forehead, Miyoshi couldn't resist sitting still. Realising what she was dealing with, desperation started to take hold; she attempted to resist.
But before she could jerk her head out of his grip, something flowed through her. The sensation was odd and invasive; alien and disrupting. Her lips slightly parted, as if she was about to say something. Instead, she felt how this 'Madoc' inserted his conscience into her being - trying to pry and wrestle the answers from her memories.

Forcing some memories, that were not important or even likely interesting for her captors, Miyoshi was aware that she was fighting a lost battle. All she could do was to buy time as she worked on her escape.
Struggling with the man that tried to delve through her memories, Miyoshi felt something loosening around her fingers. That instant was enough for the mind-delver to sink its grip deeper into her; Miyoshi sensing how he bypassed several of her distractive memories.
Then another sensation moved through her fingers, which was enough for the Republican ANBU. Biting hard on her tongue, Miyoshi felt a surge going through her.
"Shi--"

Releasing her stored anger and build up chakra Miyoshi rose from her seat. The air felt moist enough for what she had in mind.
In a rapid speed, the air seemed to turn into razor-sharp ice that drove the men backwards, as allowing Miyoshi to break loose from the rope that bound her arm movements.
In a language that seemed crude and heathenous, the men wanted to act back, but Miyoshi already turned half around - her hands brought together and flashing through the signs as fast as she could.
Before someone in the room could react, Miyoshi unleashed another wave of spikes of ice. This time she directed it towards the wooden wall, allowing the ice to slam into it and then try to freeze as force an opening.
Hearing something whistle fast and passing her narrowingly, causing Miyoshi to twist her head slightly. Her gaze travelled to the men that readied for another attack. Without any hesitation, Miyoshi turned towards the frozen wood and slammed her full weight against it.

Only to tumble down from a height, in the dark waves of the ocean.

It had taken some time before she had reached the shore. And despite feeling exhausted, she pressured herself to keep moving. Her ex-captors could very well decide to hunt her down. And now that she had revealed what she could do, Miyoshi imagined that those barbarians would kill on sight.
As the sky darkened, Miyoshi kept pushing herself to move land inwards. Spending some effort to cover her tracks, she barely could get any sleep during the first night.
The second day and night, she attempted to gain some energy, while forging a plan to get back to Kirigakure. The information that she had was crucial to bring back. Hopefully, something could be done about these marauding barbarians once the brass knew what they were dealing with in Nagi.
After several days of nurturing herself back to full health, making sure that she wasn't being trailed, Miyoshi would work on getting her way back to Kirigakure and informing the jounin team back at Fuijtama what was going on, before she departed.

The concern of the genin made it clear to Neime that they took it seriously. Whereas some genin would get overwhelmed, scared or scoff; thinking that they were able to rival heroes of yore, Neime was content that neither Sugi or Sana were either of those.
"For today, we will just take it easy. Relax a bit and save our strength." Neime began, "Tomorrow? We will move out. First, we got to see if we are truly being followed. Once we get even the inkling? We will operate in radio silence. Which sounds dramatic but I doubt that the brass cares that much for our team. We lack anyone in here that is important enough for them to fret over, when gone missing."
Introducing a pause to let her words sink in, Neime also once more tried to detect anything that seemed off. Raising a fist, she would briefly impact the stone wall. The satisfying silence that followed made it clear that nobody in the hallway could likely overhear them. Then she considered what kind of approach they should take. Genuinely, she felt nothing for the idea to split apart. But as she mulled over the ideas that came to mind, she couldn't argue on that it could very well be the most effective approach.
"We will go tomorrow to one of the town's markets. The locals may have heard something of interest. There? You two will take different paths as I will withdraw and attempt to provide some watch from the higher grounds."

Pulling something out of her pouch, a round object that was a common tool among shinobi.
"We will be using smoke bombs to communicate. When you are in danger, toss one upwards, as high as you can. This will cause a commotion but more so, hopefully allowing to know who is in danger and where. I did say that splitting up would be a bad thing but honestly, we don't have that much of a choice. Certainly seeing we lack the ability to scan the area fast enough, like sensory or some sort of summoning."
Putting the smoke bomb back into the respective pouch, Neime continued. "Now, this is where things may get tricky. Each of you need to take a path away from each other. Keep just going around and collect information. Ever heard a boiler whistle? That is going to be the specific signal to start moving away from the market. There is an establishment that I saw on our way here, called the 'Wild Barnacle'. Seemed a bit rugged but try to get there. We will move underground from there."
Waiting for a second, she would pose the genin a question in return.
"Any questions or qualms?"

As Neime went over the team's next course of action, Sugi pulled out a white bandage that he'd dress with just enough blood from his palm after cutting it to soak through the fabric. He'd wrap it around the identifying headband he wore on his left bicep. The purpose being a duo one. It believably hid his Republican military identifier from the general populace at least; second, if he was ever found out the deceptive injury may cause a potential threat to show their hand more readily.

Sugi's expression shifted from his usual more relaxed yet attentive state to one of cold unfettered focus. He took a deep breath and listened to Sana's words and her emotions before speaking up. His tone was calm but cold. "Sana...check your emotions at the door. We aren't gonna be able to act first if shit goes down here. If there is something more going on here...we need to remember that this is their home turf and we're far from home, something they'd be well aware of." They would get to the bottom of these unknown factors but the severity of what could be was too drastic to take lightly.

The one piece in all of this that was adding up to Sugi was why the brass didn't care if Neime came back from this or not. She was from a clan after all so why wouldn't they have assigned a clanless team? Could someone want Neime to parish out on a mission? Sugi knew he could be looking way too deeply into this but he had to be thorough, always.

The genin stood from the bed and got face to face with Neime. "No questions here Neime-senpai. But, I do want to say something before we're underway. Could you think of anyone in the higher ups that'd want you out of the picture?" Such words could be cited as treason in order to hush and silence the mouth that'd said it. Though Sugi knew Neime didn't seem like any fan of the brass either, maybe not to his severity but it was there. This entity perhaps didn't need Neime dead either, Hayashi member sparks revolt in Honey country could still be a powerful political move. "It's just something to think about, senpai. Things just aren't adding up."

"Noted, senpai," was all Sana had to say to Neime's instructions. Mentally, she was memorizing the instructions and thinking over how things might proceed the following day. Since they were being split up, their priority was escape, not engagement. It was a shame that they wouldn't attempt to capture the enemy to pry for information, but probably for the best. Making themselves disappear and ruining whoever's plan was just as well.

Of course, they were also supposed to question the locals about the goings on, though Sana did wonder if they would open up so easily to her. She was sure Sugi would manage, but as for her...Well, she'd have to plan what might be best to say and how to act. Best that she pretend to be a traveller, of course...to seem like an inconsequential young girl. Now she just had to do some image training before taking on that role the following day.

She was disturbed in her ruminations by Sugi. "I already know that," she countered, a slight bite to her tone. She didn't appreciate being patronized, even if her teammate genuinely was the cleverer one. However, if he thought her determination to do whatever was necessary was recklessness, then he couldn't be more wrong. She would do whatever had to be done - what was ordered by her senpai - whether that was acting as bait, escaping to save her hide, or confronting the impossible.

She frowned at Sugi's speculations, thinking it over. It was possible, but to her, it just seemed like Honey's possible revolt was something the superiors over at Kirigakure still lacked information about. She was self-aware enough to know that she also didn't like the idea that she and her team were sent over to discard in a scheming game of political shogi, even though that very well may be the case. I just hope the outcome of our presence and actions will be worth it. Turning to Neime once again, she simply added, "No questions from me."

Waiting for the genin to speak up, the first to say something was Sugi. The chuunin listened to what the genin said, her eyebrows slightly perking up. Staying silent as the two genin had a brief exchange, Neime saw little usage to remind anyone to remain calm. In her perspective, it was better that they let out some emotion now than when they would disperse and try to investigate anything from the local populace.
But then Sugi added a question that made the Hayashi focus her attention on him.
The question if anyone in the brass wanted her out made Neime briefly ponder. She had no personal enemies, but there could be other people at work.
" Such matters would be privy for my kin," Neime carefully phrased, " but this isn't the usual situation. It can be that the Mizuno clan is behind this. They are most influential in the affairs of the Honey vassal state. The idea that a Hayashi is snooping around can be seen as a provocation or worse, to them." But as Neime considered more of it, she wasn't sure if the Mizuno clan was really behind it. It seemed a tad too 'easy'.
" For now, let us not worry about clan politics. It is best for clanless to not meddle with it. If it is something between my clan and the Mizuno, we will withdraw."
All the time, Neime locked her eyes with the genin - revealing none of her emotions. The truth? She was a tad amused by the genin and the situation. If this had been a more ordinary mission, she would have been way less keen on sharing intel. Or was it because she started to take a liking to these genin?

"Alright, we all know what we are required to do? Then let's try to execute it."

[ Meilin has come to learn that Dagrún and Madoc have been 'recruited' by Kazumo, for some 'hunt'. Quite annoyed that someone that isn't officially superior ranked than her. Confronting Kazumo, however, reveals more than what Meilin anticipated. Resulting into a new plan between the two. ]

Waiting, Meilin went once more in her head what she was going to say. If anything, her anger and frustration had cooled down. Slightly, as she kept waiting for him to be done with his training. Through some talk with the quartermaster, she had learned that the Gwade Rangers would soon come back from their assigned patrols and scouting assignments.
Resisting the urge to grit her teeth against each other, Meilin crossed her arms out front of her chest as she waited. Leaning against a large wooden pole, she would be easy for him to spot as he came back; her stern gaze latched on to him as an angry hound, that refused to let go.

After some chitchat with the rangers he would split off from the rest of the group, his bow hanging by his side in his hand as he had a sullen look to him as he walked. This look was quickly replaced with fear as he looked ahead too see a stare that would never go away. Staring back at Meilin he knew she would hunt him down if he tried avoiding this, only made sense she would be searching for him. Taking Dagrun and Madoc, well when half your team was gone one was bound to be curious.
Walking towards her he gave a small smile before it faded as he looked at the ground before going back to meet her eyes. "I…. I can explain. Although I guess you won't accept that I'm helping by making Madoc do something productive?"

Meilin remained where she was, as Kazumo approached her. His smile was met with her glare - an ice cold look. A painful silence introduced itself as he was done speaking. Letting the silence torment the atmosphere between them, Meilin finally spoke up. Her tone radiating the frustration and rising anger that was boiling inside her.
"I hope for you sake you can. When I learned that two experienced members of my personal squad were taken, without my consent, I became curious. Then I learned that you are taking them on a hunt. And now you think that I will be amused? What are you trying to do? Cause if it is undermining my responsibility and standing as a lieutenant, you are doing a great job!"

He was already thinking of a way to try and word this in a manner to which he wasn't going to be yelled at, yet even he had to be honest with himself. That probably wouldn't happen, so he looked at a crate and sat down on it as he rested his bow against it. Scratching his chin he looked up at her and spoke. "I wanted to ask you but I was scared in all honesty. Granted you would probably still hate me even if I didn't tell you. I originally asked Dagrun and Madoc due to them being capable, despite what he tried to make me believe. Granted I think he knew the reason somehow.. Dagrun I had to tell to get her to agree. I wanted to ask you but I didn't want you to hate me."

Kazumo started as he paused taking a moment before resuming. "I have to kill a Bazelguese, its a request from a settlement. It will ensure their cooperation if we deal with it. Aiko gave it to me but only cause I asked her to change her mind. When we did the peace talk with the Lagaryians, Aiko stated that we could get their trust with a item of importance or a ward of stature or skill. I didn't think anything off it. A war camp is filled with literally thousands of people of that caliber…."

Kazumo cut off as he looked at the ground, as he clenched his hands. "She choose you. She didn't tell me, yet it was only until after the deal was made that I realized my folly. You are the only one who knows my secret Meilin. You and Aiko. So I asked her about our ward and if it was you and sure enough… So I asked her to change her mind and this Bazelguese was the only way for her mind to change."

Once more, silence followed Kazumo's words. His revelation caused Meilin to shift her gaze away. Staring with a more blank expression, her mind was working at a rapid pace. But no matter how she turned or twisted it; she was in a way screwed.
"You are a fucking moron," Meilin said, her tone even and softer than what it had been before, "you are literally the dumbest shit I have met so far," she continued, her expression turning into a grimace.
Pushing her back from the wooden pole, she wanted to pace and just continue sneering at Kazumo. The fact was simple: somehow she had attracted the attention of the leader of the Cho Clan. The person who could easily command her to do anything and she had to do it; because not only was Meilin sworn fealty, she was in the Cho Guard.
"Does she know that I know?" Meilin suddenly said, her hands speeding towards Kazumo's collar. Wanting to lift him up and push him against anything solid, she spoke again. "Does she know? Did you tell her that you told me?"

The insult was to be expected. He stared at the ground as she threw another one at him before she was silent. Only for his eyes to widen as she grabbed his collar and lifted him up. He initially resisted the pushing but simply complied as it would just make her more angry if she didn't. So with his back now against the pole he looked down slightly as she asked him questions. Questions to which she knew inside the answer too.
"Meilin you aren't stupid. When I confessed to you. I did so by discarding a possible marriage with a clan she set up. Even if I didn't tell her, she would have found out. Hiding something from my sensei is rather challenging to do, you should know that. So yes I told her. She told me not to tell anyone else and I was content with that. So go on. I can feel your hand shaking. Just throw the punch already." Kazumo said staring straight into her eyes.
"Unless you rather just keep calling me various forms of an idiot."

Her grip tightened as he spoke. Her mind was still processing what he revealed to her. But when he stated that he had given up an arranged marriage with a clan. The revelation was enough to twist her stomach. Wanting to call him more forms of idiot and worse was more than tempting. But instead, she released her grip and took a step back.
"Punching you is a death sentence, you idiot," she retorted, "and won't solve this crap either. Cause I was happily staying out of the political hot mess that exist between houses, clans and nobility. But now I get dragged in because of you. Great," frustrated Meilin did feel the need to deck him hard in the face. Her anger tempted her, stating in her mind how satisfying it would feel.
"Did it not occur once in your mind that you're in favour of one of the most dangerous or influential people of the Empire? That, if she wants me gone, I can't do shit about it? What is next? You wrote the Empress that you liked to marry me..."

Pausing, Meilin's facial expression rapidly shifted. The anger and frustration turning into sheer panic.
"Please don't tell me..."

As she released her grip he just kept his look on her, knowing but also not knowing the fact he changed her life without meaning too. It did occur hence why he didn't think Aiko would resort to this, just to keep a secret a secret. She then basically asked, well more like pleaded that he didn't tell Kiyomi. To which Kazumo shook his head. "Only you and Aiko. Kiyomi doesn't know." Kazumo replied softly as his eyes slightly widened a bit at the words Meilin stated. He knew Aiko was influential but hearing someone basically say if Aiko wanted them gone she couldn't do shit about it.

He cupped his chin as he thought back to the prophecy he was given. Beware the snake…. Yet Aiko wasn't a snake, yet if one went off other meanings of what a snake implied. A snake could also be defined as someone doing stuff behind your back. He shook his head as he looked at her. "That's why I'm going to kill this Bazelguese no matter what it takes…..."
Kazumo then paused before resuming. "And I did think about that as well… wrapping you up in all of this. So after this, despite my feelings. I think it should stop there. If Aiko is willing to go this far just cause of my feelings for you. Then…. after this Bazel is dead I will stop. That way you no longer are caught up in something you hate. I know it won't stop the fact that you know, but maybe you can see if Aiko can simply have that memory removed."

Staring at him, she was relieved at first. The fact he called the Empress by her personal name was enough to make Meilin's head feel lighter than before. When he continued, she threw him a frown.
"That is the most stupid decision, in ever. No, you dumbass. I am going on this hunt. As for having people mess with my memories? No thanks. It is already too late. You pulled me in. Another clan may already be looking for me, so whether it is the damned humour of the gods or you being an idiot, you and I? We are in this shit together. No easy way out for either you or me."
Despite her voice staying steady, she felt the need to lay down and just try to sleep this sudden nightmare away.
"So, first this hunt and then, we figure out how to solve this," gesturing to herself and Kazumo, Meilin continued, "thing out. Nobody gets their memory scrambled, losing anything and I won't get shipped off to some dump."

Wait what? No? In fact she just inserted herself into the hunt which made him stare at her in confusion. She even basically said they were in this mess together, so no easy way for either of them. Kazumo just remained silent as he softly nodded as she inserted herself into basically every plan of his. "I don't think I will ever understand you." Kazumo said but he had a brighter smile this time as he said that seemingly not caring if he did or didn't.
"Well this Bazel supposedly flies and is big enough for a full grown person to fit in its print. So it's large to say the least. So I asked your team because they have abilities that could help combat this flying problem. That's if Madoc wants to make flight a problem for it that is. Dagrun is all around just someone that I can tell knows how to hunt and where to aim for. I am bringing Hyilli along. She's still new to fighting but she has a useful technique that can synergize well with some plans."

Listening to what he said, Meilin tried to focus on it. Her mind was still scrambling to recover from the earlier revelations. When he said he wouldn't ever understand her together with the biggest smile, Meilin's half closed.
"I really like that you adore me. But now? Focus, you dumb puppy," she said, less harsh than before, "You so far have an unit that can hunt well. Madoc? I can handle him and Dagrún? I can try to restrain her if she gets too eager for bloodshed. I don't know much about Hylli but if you say she is useful? Sure. I propose we first venture out to uncover information about it. Unless you were given a deadline, it is best to figure out what we are up against. Then to either formulate a new plan or advance further."
Realizing something, she frowned. "That said, you're going to be in charge. I will be responsible for Madoc and Dagrún. They are part of my direct team and," Meilin paused as she realized what she was going to say. But stating that she cared and saw those two as friends, towards Kazumo? Perhaps not the smartest idea.
"Well, let's keep it at this for now. Don't dare to count me out of this hunt, seeing how much it involves me. Okay? Do we have a deal?"
Extending her hand towards Kazumo, Meilin's eyebrows kept a frown on the young woman's brow.

He couldn't help keep his smile until she mentioned if there was a deadline to which his eyes went off to the side. He let her finish speaking before he would speak up. "Probably wiser if you lead them. You know them better than I do. As for a deadline….. Well there was another reason I kinda just took them without asking you see. I don't have a big time period. I basically have at max a few days, with the battle coming up. Thats basically my deadline. That and ummmm the Lagaryians are kind of waiting for our ward." Kazumo then gave a very guilty smile, one where he tensed up just in case she decided decking him was worth it.

In a rapid response Meilin's right hand formed into a fist and traveled quickly to Kazumo's head. Softly bumping him on the head Meilin sighed. "Dumbass, no. If I lead them then that may irk Lady Cho. She gave this to you right? Then having me lead it may very well be the same as spitting in her face. I will gather Dagrún and Madoc for tomorrow. You get Hylli. At sunrise, we go and you lead on. After all," shrugging lightly, Meilin continued, "I know how to track and hunt down a person in a city. Out in the woods or an animal? I have no clue. Seeing you train with the Gwade boys, I reckon you do. So," already taking a step away, Meilin nodded to Kazumo, "tomorrow. Sunrise, right? Don't be late."

...Yep he will never understand her and he was perfectly okay with that. Untensing himself he gave a nod. He felt he could synergize with Dagrun as she also had that vibe of being a hunter. Only problem child was Madoc, but he reconkened he could let Meilin control Madoc if he was being stupid. "Honestly tracking people is sort of similar to tracking animals. I would say tracking in a city is more difficult though, yet I can teach you those things along the way. Granted, I never tried tracking a creature supposedly that is massive before. A Bear was the biggest but this thing is bigger than a bear by a large margin if I and you can lay down in it's footprint. Yet sunrise is prime hunting time."

She wasn't sure if tracking in a city was more difficult. But this wasn't the time or the place to compare notes and experiences. A wry smile crossed her lips as he offered to teach her, she decided to reply before taking her leave.
"Let us first focus on not having me shipped off towards Lagrye. Then? I suppose I will let you teach me about tracking. I will need to make use of this day to get both Dagrún and, certainly, Madoc ready. I will see you here tomorrow."
Raising her hand, she would start to walk away. Her mind was still trying to tie things together. These new developments were far from pleasant but perhaps something could be salvaged from it.

The team under Genji Hojo's command tracks the enemy down to where they were spotted last. The team comes up with a plan to surprise to overwhelm the Red Cloaks; hopefully, without too much sacrifices on their own side... ]

Awaiting for the others to meet at the meeting position, they had a simple enough goal as their objective. He had a small group to do the task given to them but it was simple in nature. Red cloaks that needed to be killed, wounds were a given but the main part was to pretty much avoid the locals as it was unclear if they were hostile or not. All simple enough, eliminate, no angering the locals, and return to base. He had some doubts from his previous working experience with some of the people tasked with him, he was confident on one performing to duty and another he hoped would be okay given the dangers involved. Obviously he hoped to get the drop on them and not vice versa, but he would go over that when the four arrived.

Niji found Genji upon her arrival at the meeting point, she was on time, if not early. A simple nod would be given for now, she had no desire to talk to him in any casual sense based off of his reactions to what she said during the last mission they were both on. Though she did see that currently she was the only other member of the team present, with luck it wouldn't take long for another to show up.

Heading to the meeting point, Kaya flexed her fingers. Cast in gloves, her fingers weren't that affected by the cold. Yet she couldn't help but get the itch out of them. With being assigned to a mission, Kaya wasn't sure what she was hoping for. Noticing that two were already present, Kaya increased her pace slightly.
"Kaya Irozaki, present," she said, giving a curt nod to both. She recognised them both from the previous interactions but hadn't really been able to get to know them. Flashing a smile briefly at the two, Kaya took a look around. Shifting her weight from leg to another, she wondered briefly if she could ask a question. Deciding against it, Kaya inhaled slowly and then rubbed her right arm.
"Damn this cold, am I right?"

Closing on the meeting point, Yumeji was garbed up for the mission. Opting to not go for the heavy armour that she usually favoured, she would still bring her signature shield with her. Once close enough, she gave a respectful nod to both Niji and Genji. The ghost of a smile dawned on Yumeji's lips as she winked at Kaya. Noticing that they were with four, Yumeji wondered if they were waiting for more or if they would be briefed in already. Seeing that she saw no soldiers being present, she reckoned that it would be a shinobi operation. Perhaps some reckon or favour for the nearby locals?
Having heard what Kaya said before, Yumeji decided to say something.
"It is kind of chilly, yeah," Yumeji replied, slightly amused if the small talk would continue about the cold.

Mizuchi was the last of the group to arrive, not particularly by her choice but she had woken up later than she had intended. Still, she was not much later than her sister to arrive at the meeting point for their small group. Seeing as they were in an area that potentially had locals, Mizuchi had opted not to go with her usual heavy armor as well. Instead she wore a lighter armor that provided a bit less protection but also allowed her a bit more mobility than typical. Although she hated wearing this lighter armor, as it felt as if she were going in unarmored to this fight. Still, she wasn't sure how locals would react to somebody in heavy armor coming by on them, and minimizing the chance of upsetting them sounded like a safe option.
Upon arriving at the meeting point, Mizuchi gave a respectful nod towards Genji, Kaya, and Yumeji. Her sister, a nod and a small friendly smile. Though there was a small chuckle at the genin's comment about the cold, one which the Hojo found herself in agreement with. Some warmer weather would most certainly be welcome by now.

No reactions would come from Genji as the small group started to arrive, this was kept very low personnel due to risks they didn't wish to take. Only a small smile came at Kaya making a remark about the cold weather. With Yumeji replying to the genin. Several more minutes would pass as Genji seemed a bit annoyed and was about to speak when the Mizuchi would show up last. He would eye up the group with a chuckle.
"I see you all pack light. That's good cause today couldn't be any more simple of a task. Several miles north of here is about a dozen Red Cloaks, fairly skilled in combat based on some of us who fought them before. Now our goal? Eliminate them, nothing fancy about this. We are going to engage them and either capture or kill."

Genji started saying looking at the group to make sure they weren't confused for whatever reason. "Now we can try to get the drop on them and make it a bit easier on us. Yet we aren't to hinder too much, if they leave then it gets riskier."
He would then hold up his hand to halt any question before taking a more stern look.
"Locals are also reported to be near the area, under no circumstances are we to talk to the locals or even be on the outskirts of their homes. We don't know if they are hostile."

He would let that sink in before resuming. "If you do engage with the locals, do expect dire consequences. You could put everyone's lives in danger if they suddenly attack cause you approached them. Am I clear everyone?" Genji stated as he eyed the group wanting them to acknowledge that they understood what the orders were, also giving them a chance to ask any questions.

Listening to Genji, Yumeji had some thoughts on the current operation. Resting her left hand on the handle of her blade, she whistled softly. "Avoid the locals, that sounds not too hard. Though the enemy has the numbers on us?" She threw a sideways glance at Mizuchi, continuing to speak, "maybe we should employ some sensory and try to ambush our targets?"
Turning her attention back at Genji, another idea started to crop up in Yumeji's mind. One less desirable but her preferences weren't supposed to override the goal of the mission.
"Perhaps we can try to use one or two of us to lure them into a trap? A direct head-on fight will just result in a prolonged fight. And I don't think that will end well, no offense."

Yumeji's idea of setting a trap or baiting the enemies into giving them the upper hand was clever enough, even with limited numbers it had potential. "How high a priority is attempting capture of at least one of the Red Cloaks? And is there any kind of protocol in case they make contact with the locals, such as observation or falling back?" Niji felt they were simple enough questions, the enemy making contact with the locals had to be of some concern to the war effort, and in turn the higher ups.
While capture definitely had a chance of bearing fruit if they could get them to talk once any interrogation began.

Mizuchi nodded along with the assessment her sister gave. They were outnumbered, and their opponents were skilled. Things could very quickly turn against their favor, so luring them into a trap could be rather advantageous. Though she much prefered to engage in a straight fight, Mizuchi could not ignore the wisdom in Yumeji's assessment. "I think luring them into a trap might be our best bet, a prolonged fight could easily go against us." She said before considering something for a moment. "If they have any sensory types of their own, then using sensory would only alert them to our presence. We could use that to try to lure them into a trap, though we also run the risk they might simply choose to avoid us instead." She added, looking around the group quietly for a long moment.

The plan of an ambush didn't appeal much to Kaya. The genin also, however, didn't like the idea of a head-on fight. Understanding the fact that an ambush would be one of the best bet that they could get, it would also put some of them into danger. Thinking of something, Kaya threw a look at Genji.
"What about tricking them?" She began, the idea taking further shape in her mind. "A lot of the enemy got scattered during the last huge confrontation, right? We wouldn't likely be able to pose ourselves as redcloaks. But we could try to disguise ourselves as squints," she began to explain further, "this will perhaps prevent then from outright attacking those who set the ambush right away. Once they move in to communicate, we can spring the trap."

They had questions which were to be expected. Some of their inputs better than others yet he gauged that from past experiences with some of them. "Well I also agree that getting the drop on them is preferable. I aint just throwing you all head first into the fuckers. Hence why we are figuring this out now instead of there. Cause once we head out, we are to operate quickly and effectively so they DON'T…. Go to the locals." Genji said looking at them all before moving on to answer the next input.
"Capture isn't a huge priority but it would certainly help to get more info if we did capture at least one. If you can't you can't though. Sensory is an option sure, but these are Red Cloaks. More skilled than a squint for sure. They could very well be using their own sensory which is the tricky part cause if they are already doing such, then an ambush may not work in the simple fact of simply luring them in. However posing as squints may just work for the ones performing the ambush. Good idea Private Kaya. So I propose the following by going off that suggestion."

Genji paused to make sure they were still listening, his gaze lingering on a couple of them before resuming. "Two of us who act as bait will obviously be in the more dangerous position. So I will be one of the two being bait. I want Sergeant Yumeji to be the one leading the ambush. I trust your judgement on when to strike." He then looked at Kaya and had an apologetic smile on his face.
"Going to have to ask you to be on the bait force with me. Might encourage them to attack us if they see a one eyed man and a young girl. Might believe us to be easy pickings, maybe even try and capture us for their own interrogation."
Looking back at the rest he gave a nod. "Any other ideas or suggestions ladies? Cause once we start the operation, we aren't turning back."

Glad that Kaya's idea was taken, Yumeji wasn't too happy with the decision of Genji to take Kaya for the bait. Wanting to intervene, she realised how it would look like. Besides, Kaya had experienced rough fights before. And Yumeji didn't think that Genji was a pushover. Okay, only a little bit, she mused to herself.
"Then all that rests is a place where we can execute the plan and ambush," Yumeji said, glancing at Genji, "I can lead the ambush, no problem. I suppose that we need to just get you guys to look like squints and then get started. We will trail you guys from a comfortable distance. Not too close to be noticed right away but neither too far that you guys will have all the fun for yourselves."

Taking a second, Yumeji placed her hands at her hips. A soft sight escaped her lips.
"I suppose all that rest is that we get to our bloody business, eh?"

------------
With no more input from the rest of the group, the plan was decided upon and with some help. They got what they needed prepared for the disguises for Genji and Kaya. Then the groups were off in silence for most of the way, at a certain point Genji and Kaya would go off alone under their 'Squint' disguises while Yumeji, Niji and Mizuchi would be watching waiting to strike an ambush.

Walking through the snow, Genji shivered a bit as he looked at Kaya. "Well with less padding, I can say for sure that its certainly much colder. We have some time before we should even see the Red Cloaks. You ready Kaya? I don't want no quitter talk, got a lot more balls than most of the people in the military."

It took nearly a minute before the words of Genji dawned upon Kaya, let alone her brain register that the man was speaking to her. Struggling through the cold and snow, she already made a silent promise that she wouldn't ever complain about the padding being too thick or warm.
"Yeah. And psh," the girl frowned as she shot a wary look at Genji, "I was ready yesterday. Don't make me carry you back and we are all good."
Despite her facade thrown off pretty good, Kaya felt her right hand trembling hard. She kept it at her side - out of Genji's sight. But the trembling reminded her briefly that tough talk wouldn't make the situation go easier or smoother, in any kind of way.

Yumeji kept herself low. Her eyes trained on the two individuals that were slightly up ahead. Throwing a glance to her right, she had decided to assign Niji. Giving a shorthand sign that Niji could move up a bit in advance, Yumeji would shot to the left - the flank that she had assigned to Mizuchi. Giving a sign that she should advance as well, Yumeji stayed where she was. While there was no sign yet of hostile contact, Yumeji wanted to be sure that she could react to a maneuver on their flanks. If there was any need to it.
Trudging through the snow, Yumeji was hoping that they would be able to rely on some pine trees and whatnot for continued camouflage.

Niji patiently followed behind Yumeji as per the formation they were maintaining in order to stay unnoticed, keeping a good view on their flank in case she sighted any incoming hostiles. Upon Yumeji's signal she would move up further, making sure their surroundings were more or less safe enough for the time being as she moved.

Mizuchi kept a keen eye out as she kept in the formation. Wanting to ensure that the flank she was tasked with covering had no surprises they needed to worry about. While it would be easier to use her techniques for chakra sensing, Mizuchi was not about to send off a flare notifying any sensory types of their location. Upon her sister's signal, Mizuchi keeps forwards as well, keeping watch to ensure their surroundings were still clear.

A chuckle escaped Genji as he couldn't help but smile at Kaya's bravado. "Well as long as the others stick to their plan, no one will need to carry anyone. Just remember, if you do a surprise attack. You make sure that the one you hit, doesn't even know it was a surprise attack…." Genji said trailing off a bit as up ahead was indeed the Red cloaks that were in the report.
"Remember we are bait, we lure them in and trust in our team to carry out the ambush. You watch my back, and I watch yours. I ain't accepting no casualties, I'm only accepting drinks when we celebrate our victory. Understood?"

"I remember the plan," Kaya whispered back, "perhaps you should deal with the surprise attack. My techniques are a bit, flashy at best." She added as they continued with their plan. Seeing that the enemy hadn't yet made a move or seemed threatened, the plan seemed to be working.
Taking a deep breath in, Kaya shot a subtle look to the side - towards Genji.
"I guess I am ready."

Patting her on the shoulder he gave a nod and continued moving forward. Sticking near the treeline, he gave a nod to Kaya before letting out a sharp whistle.
The Red Cloaks jerked their attention seemingly on guard before seeing underlings in their eyes. Genji however frantically waved at them from where he was which caused the group to seemingly grumble before heading over towards the two squints.
As they got closer Genji held a finger to his mouth and pointed in the woods. Before starting to walk quietly into the forested area.
The Cloaks looked at each other before also sneaking along with Genji, seemingly unaware that he wasn't part of their side in the slightest. As they all progressed, one seemingly looked at Genji before speaking out loud in an unknown language. Knowing full well it was for him though, he turned towards them with a confused look before one pointed at his swords.
Genji gave a snap of his fingers before holding one out to him. The cloak took it and unsheathed it and gave a smile, meanwhile Genji took the other one and unsheathed it as he pointed at the inscription on the blade.

The cloak looked at it confusingly. Not understanding the inscription as it wasn't in his language, then his eyes widened as the sword sliced right into his neck. Genji took his sword from the now corpse, before moving his sword in a circular manner which would confuse anyone who watched it as afterimages of Genji seemed to appear. Darting forward he sliced his sword through another Red Cloak, surprise was still in the air as the ones alive were still processing the first of their comrades dying.

A sharp whistle pierced through the air from the right. A small crescent of chakra slammed through the clothing, ripping through a Red Cloak's side. Blood spurted from the open wound as the small, deadly arc of chakra seemed determined to bite deeper.
Emerging from her spot, Yumeji would hold her shield in front of her as a sharp, blue hue covered her blade. Her goal wasn't to attract attention or kill as many as possible. But to get as fast and close she could to Kaya.

Following Yumeji's attack and subsequent emergence from the underbrush, Niji leapt forwards past her to engage the group of Red Cloaks, withdrawing her staff from the seal on her sleeve.
With a twirl of the staff and thrusting it towards the closest Red, the seal on the end of the staff lit up and a steel wire net burst out of the staff to encompass and tangle around them, following up with a swift kick to the chest to send the Red toppling over to further entangle them.

Now, if they could eliminate the rest of them then the optional objective of capturing one was complete.

Approaching the enemy, Kaya's heart started to skip a few beats. Her hands gained an itch that made her want to grip the handle of her weapons. But she resisted and followed along with Genji, closing in on the red cloaks.
Watching Genji for a moment, Kaya settled her gaze upon a nearby Red cloak. But it seemed that the Hojo and his swords attracted all attention. Only for their curiousity about the swords to be replaced by confusion, swiftly followed by bloodshed. Picking her hatchet from its holder, Kaya narrowed her eyes. In a swift motion, the genin threw the weapon with all her strength at the nearby Red cloak.

Picking out her trench knives, Kaya watched as her hatchet burrowed deep into the Red Cloak - causing the man to reel back in pain and surprise. With a mere skid did Kaya close in the distance as she unleashed a flurry of attacks.

Shortly after Yumeji's attack, and just about the same moment Kaya's hatchet found a new sheath in a Red Cloak, Mizuchi we elk exploded from her spot in hiding. In a single blink, her sword was drawn from its sheath and cut a vicious gash across one of the Red Cloaks' stomach, causing the man to fall to his knees grasping at the wound as she spun around towards the other enemies, already bringing her sword in an offensive cut towards the next closest of the cloaks.

Several cloaks now on the ground coating the snow in blood, with one entangled in a net muttering slurs and curses one could only assume. The seven still alive however were no longer startled but were surrounded by the ambush. The one that had a hatchet buried into him though was surprised at the tenacity of this little girl. Yet he had his own knife ready and waiting for this quickly approaching child.
Two of them decided to keep Genji at bay by charging at him, while one charged Mizuchi not seemingly scared of her quick attacks. Looking almost like he could handle her now that he was no longer surprised by this attack, they after all still had the numbers advantage.
Niji faced a predicament in the fact that the one she had captured was soon to be set free, one man rushed her while another set to free his comrade from the net. If the man did free his friend it only made the number disadvantage the more deadly for their side.
Yumeji while trying to get to Kaya's side was halted by a more larger man, with his own shield and sword. Seemingly not moving himself, as he figured between his friend and the child that the kid would end up dead quickly enough for this situation to turn around in their favor.

Aborting the attack she had been about to make, Mizuchi instead shifted to deflect the incoming attack from her new opponent. Judging by how he charged into battle rather fearlessly against her, Mizuchi had to assume he was either capable, or an idiot. Dodging out of the way of another strike that turned out to be a fakeout, then quickly bringing her own blade up to deflect the true strike coming, she quickly figured that it was the former. As the opponent's attacks continued, leaving the Hojo backing up a bit as she was forced onto the defensive from her opponents aggression. Their fight leave Mizuchi with a few glancing blows, though it was nothing that she was worried about. However, the Hojo knew very much that would change if she was left on the defensive like this.

During her opponents next attack, she quickly dodged away, then deflected his strike to keep her opponent off guard. She then lunged in with a vicious flurry of attacks focused on keeping her opponent off his offensive from earlier. This continued as Mizuchi kept up her aggression, aiming to wear down her opponent until he caught her off guard in between strikes and slammed a hard shoulder into her. The Hojo staggered back from the impact and just barely caught his incoming attack, dodging out of the way so it missed the most damage. Still, she felt the glancing blow through the leather armor she wore and winced. Coming back around, however, she used the momentum from her dodge to drive herself back into combat with her opponent. She returned the favor from earlier by slamming a shoulder into the man as he was coming around to get another attack, staggering him for a moment. Though she didn't waste time and set in with a quick flurry of blows. Ending quickly as her opponent came up late for an attempt to deflect one of her vicious flurry of blows, and received a long cut along his abdomen. Falling to his knees, Mizuchi moved away from her dying opponent to aim towards Genji and the two men attacking him.

One Cloak was on the ground and being attended to by his comrade and one was charging at her, of course it wouldn't be that easy to catch one of these grunts, so it came to bloodshed. The first step would be to launch her staff like a javelin at the Cloak trying to untangle their companion in order to knock them down and delay their rescue.
Step two would be a quick tap to her forearm, revealing her sword and deflecting the first blow from the main enemy for now, directing his weapon to the ground on her right-hand side and following up with a slash at his hand, be it some fingers or the whole hand itself she would restrict his ability to fight and give herself the upper hand.

As much as she disliked things such as this, the severance of fingers from the man's hand was good enough, he was an enemy after all. But it didn't stop him from continuing to fight, shifting his stance and closing the gap enough to turn it from a sword fight to a brawl as he sucked up the pain and jabbed with his off-hand, making Niji backstep to avoid it and allowing him to advance again, taking swipe after swipe at her as she continued to defensively deflect or sidestep his blows, a few of them got through for sure but it wasn't a level of punishment she wasn't used to already.
But there was little time to waste on fighting this one, the longer she took the more likely the other would get their ally loose from her net. A retaliatory slash from her sword, aiming for his neck, would put him onto the defensive again and step back to give her the advantage as she would step in time with him and lunge forward to headbutt the man, breaking his nose and affording her the opportunity to follow that up with a forceful stab, embedding her sword between his ribs and twisting the blade so she could wrench it back out of his chest so she could handle the rest of her troubles for the day. Regardless of the state of the other two Cloaks she was having to deal with, she would advance on the pair.
They were enemies, if they didn't fall here then any of the other team members were at risk. And she couldn't allow that to happen while she was present.

Halting, Yumeji quickly eyed her opponent. He was larger and wielded a similar set of weapons; a short blade and a shield - its design somewhat outlandish.
Realizing that she had to act quickly to aid Kaya, Yumeji knew that playing it defensively wasn't the right direction. In a rapid motion, the Hojo attempted several strikes to test out her opponent's defence. Much to Yumeji's chagrin, her opponent matched her speed and blocked her attacks.
Spotting a blue hue surrounding her opponent's blade, Yumeji didn't block the sweep but lowered herself. The arc of chakra just a mere inch over her head, the sound of it passing her quite menacingly.
Yumeji pressed herself forwards in response, using her weight and motion to act as a wrecking ball; her shield slamming against that of her opponents. The clash of shields and weights seemed to briefly go in Yumeji's favour until her opponent started to push back.
"Come on, then," Yumeji grunted, as she started to prepare and mould her chakra.

Her flurry of attacks was repeatedly repelled. Even though she danced around her opponent, the genin's foe managed to keep up. Her assailant wielded a short blade but was more than competent enough to avoid Kaya's slashes and punches; her trench knives were either missing or blocked.
Skidding backwards, she felt how she became winded. Yet, her opponent? Not a single sweat.
Spotting that her foe moved in, Kaya didn't hesitate. The two combatants started their deadly dance again, with Kaya aware that she was losing ground. Various times was Kaya forced back into defending herself. Various grazes were forming around her arms, sending a painful ache as she realised her opponent's plan.
The song of steel slicing through the air, colliding as the sharp edges would slide against each other rang loud in Kaya's ears. Focusing on the opponent's weapon, she saw her opponent reach out; grabbing her by the shoulder.
Being pulled forwards, Kaya narrowed her eyes. In quick succession, she lashed out, feeling how something resisted the motion; forcing her to pull harder.
The warm sensation of blood hitting her cheeks caused her to grin. But her satisfaction was cut short. Her opponent nearly instantly reacted back, driving his sharp blade into Kaya's side.
Gasping, the genin felt how the sharp steel shredded skin and flesh as it was being plunged deeper. Her eyes widened as she gripped her weapons tighter.

Feeling how her opponent started to push her back, Yumeiji waited a second. Only to pivot and move away from her opponent, causing him to stumble forwards.
"You are finished," the Hojo calmly stated as she lashed out with her weapon, driving it deep into her opponent's neck. Using his motion and weight advanced, Yumeji felt the vibration from the hilt of her sword; the sharp edge leaving a deep gash in her foe's throat.
Quickly, Yumeji turned her attention to Kaya's fight. Only to see the genin being stabbed. Panic and rage flashed through Yumeji. A horrible sound started to emit from the chuunin's blade, all the prepared chakra being poured to surround the weapon's blade; the coating becomes a hue of dark blue due to the dense concentration of chakra.

Advancing rapidly forward, Yumeji dropped her shield. Wielding her blade with both hands, she aimed her attack as good as possible. Closing on Kaya and her foe, the Hojo nearly seemed to miscalculated her dash - passing Kaya and her foe.
But as she slid to a halt, Yumeji lashed out; the chakra combined with steel slicing off the man's hand that wielded the blade. In a swift motion, the chuunin would raise her weapon and hammer it down on the foe's face - the impact enough to make him reel backwards.
Not yet done with her onslaught, Yumeji lashed out several more times until she was sure that the man was knocked out cold.
Only to turn around, her face turning pale.
"Kaya?!"

[ Eastern Continent | Lagyre | The Force of the North ]

The arrival of Northerners within Lagyre has seen a lot of developments taking shape. The locals have been wary and avoiding direct contact with the foreign might marching in. However, despite the caution of both sides, communication and cooperation have become a reality. The local Lagyrians have provided valuable services to guide and inform the Dominion; thus speeding up the preparations to take the fight with the Rongese eastwards.
Various small skirmishes have already been executed, all ending in a sounding victory for the Northern forces under Chosen General's command, Miyara Ueda.

The arrival of the army of Satoshi caused some tension to rise. The majority of the forces underneath Satoshi's command would become hesitant to obey a new chain of command; many became comfortable with the Jun being their general. This problem was quickly addressed and apprehended as the Northern forces' new leader made quick changes, without changing much to the structure. Appointing Satoshi as one of his advisors, Miyara Ueda would continue to direct his forces.

News soon started to reach the Northerners; a large host of Rongese troops were spotted. The actual numbers yet unclear, but enough to make most scouting parties quickly falling back.
As a result, the Lagyrians have promised a contingent of their forces; all men can simultaneously ride horses and fire arrows.
Furthermore, the Sky country's small force is racing towards the main encampment to reinforce Ueda's army.

[ Amegakure - Empire of Akino ]
[ Operation - Silent Alley - Part 1]
[ Being assigned a mission within Amegakure, and wanting to prove herself to be more reliable than before, Kuni sets out to do her best. ]

It had been some time since she was on an active shinobi mission. And now she got ordered to observe an exchange and report back. She couldn't let people catch sight of her either. Kuni wasn't sure how well she could execute the last bit, since she was somewhat known in Amegakure, after all. But she also wanted to avoid giving people reasons to complain about her further. She already caused too much trouble, for many people.

With a hoodie over her head, Kuni actually felt like she somewhat blended in with the crowd in the neighbourhood. No one in the area really seemed to want to attract attention to themselves. A few just hanging around in alleyways, some quickly passing through the streets. The few bolder people just stared down anyone who passed by them, called others names and just tried to prove they were the ones in charge of the street. She didn't know if this is how it was in the entire neighbourhood or just this street, but it felt like life here was not great.

"Oi, get lost already! Can't you see we're havin' a private talk! Stupid kid." One of the people staring down others called out to Kuni, who proceeded to step away faster from them, before turning away into an alley. While slowing down her pace, she heard laughter from behind her. It was better to let them think they were still the alphas and not do anything that could be seen as a challenge. She wasn't supposed to be known, after all. And her gut feeling told her that if she exposed herself, it would attract even more attention than needed. Not to mention, today was meant to scout the area where the meeting would take place, not give the gangs reason to reschedule or move it elsewhere.

Indeed, the meeting won't be taking place until 2 days from now. Kuni got the mission briefing a few days ago, and decided to come scout only two days before. She didn't want to scout too much and potentially alert, but she also didn't want to leave it to the very last moment. And the meeting is set to take place in the street she just came from. So it was likely the guys who shouted at her were also lookouts for one of the gangs. But she had no way of knowing that for sure either.
Stopping in the middle of the alleyway, she glanced at both directions she could go. In the direction she came from, she could still hear the loud talking of the guys. In the other direction, there was a bit more presence in the street. People passed by, but no one was looking into the alley.

Approaching a side entrance to a building, Kuni gave another look around before taking out a kunai and putting the blade as far as she could into the side of the door. She started putting pressure on it, slowly pushing the door, until she managed to get it open. It wasn't a gentle way like lockpicking, but it was what she knew how to do. Quickly going up the stairs in the building, she ignored all the apartment doors until she reached the highest floor. It was only 3 stories high, with 3 apartments on each floor. But she was looking for something else.
Checking the ceiling on the top floor, she managed to find a hatch leading to the roof. It was out of her reach, so she knew she had to get creative in order to open it in a way no one else would notice.

Taking out a shuriken and some string, Kuni tied the wire to the shuriken and then started to throw it towards the handle of the hatch. It took her a couple of attempts before she got the shuriken through the handle, then proceeded to take the shuriken off the string, and make it so the string was tied around the handle. Pulling on the string, it took a bit of effort, but she managed to get the hatch open. With the hatch having a small ladder on its other side, Kuni now managed to jump and reach the ladder, letting her climb through the hatch and onto the roof.

Keeping herself low as she got topside, Kuni looked in the direction of the street. It was easy to tell which one it was due to the talking of the guys. She didn't know if she'd be able to use this as a vantage point for the meeting day itself, but she went closer to the edge and peeked over. The three guys were still sitting by the same building, just talking among themselves, before telling another person who passed by to get lost.
Moving away from the ledge, Kuni made her way back to the hatch. While she considered going back down through the building, she knew she wouldn't have a way to close the hatch if she did get back inside. Closing the hatch from the roofside, she made her way to the side facing the alley. It was still quiet and no one was passing through, luckily.

Using the window ledges and cracks in the wall, Kuni started to make her way down as quietly as she could. She made sure to not stick by the windows for too long, so to not let herself be exposed to anyone who may be inside too much. Eventually, she reached the ground, then turned to look at the door. It was still slightly open due to the way she forced it. Looking at it, she wondered if people could just pass it off as the door lock being bad, or someone trying to rob the place. In the neighbourhood she was in, both were likely.

Deciding not to wait around any longer, Kuni started walking away quietly, thinking further about what kind of plan she could come up with for the actual time of the meeting.

Team Hiron - Hunting down an officer
A follow-up of both Junko's personal interaction with Kyoi and the training session that took place between Masami and Shikaroku, leading directly to the anticipated mission.

@ChromeHound @RedFox @BlueFlameNikku

The answers given by Junko, the latter of which definitely seemed to take more thought than just some basic or vague idea. It showed that she at least was still thinking for herself to some degree unlike her seemingly rehearsed words from before, it coaxed a dry smile from Kyoi now. "Awareness of your own inadequacies; be it basic physical attributes or understanding of what you lack in a more technique based aspect, is a good thing so it'll do for now. But after any mission or training exercise I want you to think about it again based on your previous experiences and determine where you fell short and inform me on your findings, we can work on any faults when we have the time. If you have any issues beyond your own training needs, then don't hesitate to talk to me about it."

Junko looked to Kyoi Hyuuga with an acknowledging expression. A sergeant clearly wants their squad to continuously improve, so turning in reports in regards to shortcomings seemed rather expected. She nodded."Understood, I'll be sure to inform you of any shortcomings after debriefings, Sergeant Hyuuga. I won't disappoint you."

Immediately after their training session ended, Masami excused herself and made towards their tent, but took a different turn to get to a bit more secluded area, where she rested her face in her hands. Her thoughts were a swirling mess of anxiety, relief, excitement and fear. It took her several minutes to calm down, after which she decided to get some refreshment. Almost an hour later, she was approaching their meeting point, her face much more calmer and collected, just like her thoughts. Kyoi was already there, together with the latest addition to their team. She put on a polite smile and made a small, respectful bow at Kyoi."Kyoi-sama." She then turned towards the newcomer and her eyes rested on her, then she extended her hand."You must be the latest addition to our team! I'm Masami Hyuuga, Chuunin member of the team and a part of The Guardians. Looking forward to working with you!"

After they had been dismissed, Shikaroku reflected on the exercise, taking in Kyoi's notes. He was a bit relieved when Masami excused herself, especially after Kyoi's 'lovebird' comment. When the time came for the group to reconvene, Shikaroku made his way towards the meeting point. It appeared he was the last to arrive and the Nara watched as Masami introduced herself to their newest teammate.

Studying the newcomer for a moment, Shikaroku would approach, nodding his head towards the girl politely. "Nice to meet you. My name is Shikaroku Nara." Turning, Shikaroku offered a slight smile towards Masami before turning and nodding to Kyoi.

Junko would turn to face Masami as she approached and waited patiently to be addressed, her cold dead eyes followed the chuunin's every move until she introduced herself. The genin put on what seemed to be the faintest hint of a smile while the rest of her expression stayed mute as she gave her rehearsed polite bow. "I am Junko Shiroi, genin from Konohagakure. It is a pleasure to meet you." The greeting sounded like the run of the mill without much feeling behind it. The genin looked confused upon seeing Masami's hand as if a friendly handshake was foreign to her. She awkwardly reached out to accept the handshake. "I look forward to killing the enemy while by your side." The young kunoichi said oddly casually. She really was pleased that her team consisted of not one but two members of the Hyuuga clan and hoped to learn a lot from them both.

Shikaroku would receive quite a different response. The genin looked at him with a confused look like he wasn't who she was expecting, even squinting at him for a moment. Remembering Kyoi's orders however, Junko reluctantly faced him properly but did not bow like she did with Masami. She returned his nod with one of her own and spoke sharply. "I am Junko Shiroi." Not offering much else after that Junko turned on her heels to fall back in line with Kyoi, clearly waiting impatiently for the mission briefing.

Quietly Kyoi would watch the respective interactions Junko made between Masami and Shikaroku, while not the best, it would do for now. She would clear her throat and look at all three of them. "With introductions out of the way I'll brief you all on our mission and we can get moving."

"Scouts have located an enemy camp and from what we know there's a small contingent of squints, roughly a dozen, left in the camp for speculative reasons. What we've been tasked with is the elimination of the underlings and the capture of the squint officer that is present. There shouldn't be any ninjutsu users among their number as there have been no sightings of any red cloaks, but we should be ready for whatever tricks they may have set up in their time hiding in the camp."

"I will repeat, for peace of mind. We are capturing their officer and killing the rest of them. Ideally, we want to eliminate as many of them in one move as possible to render their numbers advantage pointless. If it becomes necessary, the Tiger Claws are nearby in case we need reinforcements. You are free to use ninjutsu on the enemy so long as you don't go overboard, no one should be overextending themselves using exhaustive techniques nor showing off and jeopardizing the capture of their officer. Does anyone have any questions before we leave?"

Masami was shocked at the way Junko reacted, and even more so after the words she spoke. Her look must have given her away, and she quickly tried to hide it.Perhaps she's just eager, the Hyuuga thought to herself. Still, the words, but moreso, the way they were spoken, left her a bit disturbed. Doing her best to brush off the shock she was in, she gave her an attempt at a reassured nod."Y-yeah. Nice to meet you." She was about to give Shikaroku a questioning look before Kyoi spoke up, briefing them in. The mission, in itself, seemed rather straightforward. Elimination of squints with the overarching goal of capturing their leader. For some reason, Masami frowned as they were given space to ask questions.

"If I may. It is a bit suspicious, at least for me. And those speculative reasons, they worry me a bit. While it is reassuring that The Claws are nearby, and I have no doubt they would reach us in time should we need them. But this could easily be an attempt to lure us out and attempt the same thing we are - capture and extract intel from us. Our scouts should be able to pick up any forces, waiting for an ambush, but we should still tread carefully. How up to date are their reports? "

"As up to date as they can be during a war, a number of days at most, as nice as constant surveillance would be, it's unfortunately not possible. The current assumptions from the scouts on why they're still in that encampment are that they're either there to prevent scouting beyond that point or to hide and remain entrenched in order to relay information on our forces back to their lines, seeing as we're rapidly gaining ground on the enemy. If, by chance, this is all a clever ruse to try and capture us, I fully expect all of you to be capable enough to retreat if things go awry."

Masami listened to the response given to her and she nodded in acknowledgment. As much as she disliked going out with outdated intel, it was her duty to do so. Her face went from a concerned one to a focused one, as she took a deep breath. She pressed her concerns to the back of her mind and sealed them there. This was not the place and time to deal with them. She gave Kyoi an acknowledging look." I understand. Well, we can't always have things going our way. I understand, Kyoi-sama. Kill the squints, take their leader. Should things go sour, we know the drill. One last questions - are fractured legs acceptable?"

Junko stood there quietly and took in the information regarding the mission. It all sounded rather textbook, just like a mock mission. Capture the person of importance and eliminate all other threats. They had their supposed numbers, none of which were jutsu users. Lambs that were forgotten only to be slaughtered. The genin found the term they used to describe the enemy rather entertaining. Squints. she thought. It was amusing but not to the level of how the genin reacted to Masami's most recent question. At the mention of if fractured legs were acceptable, Junko let a creepy grin slip for a few moments before returning back to neutral. She chimed in with "Fractured legs would reduce the officer's chances to escape greatly. Though it would slow our return to camp."

The genin wasn't happy about the order to retreat if things went bad but orders were orders. Though on that note she did have a question. "Are we authorized to cut down any fleeing...squints?" The answer was probably yes but Junko had to make sure and wanted to hear their sergeant vocally give the order. The new recruit was already well onboard with the get as many of them in one go at the beginning, strategy.

Shikaroku noted Junko's strange response to him, but made no outward display of acknowledgement. Focusing his attention instead on Kyoi's briefing, Shikaroku silently cursed. They were tasked with killing everyone except their primary target, something the Nara was very much against. He still remembered the last time he was ordered to kill someone… that had ended rather messily as his uncertainty caused him a momentary lapse in judgement and the boy had accidentally severed his target's carotid artery, covering him in the man's blood. The memory was etched into his brain and his stomach still became unsettled at the thought.

Frowning, Shikaroku would cross his arms, trying to think of an alternative while Masami and Junko asked their questions. The new girl's question caused Shikaroku to pause however and he glanced at her, one eyebrow raising slightly. She seemed almost… excited, about the prospect of cutting multiple people down in cold blood. Making a mental note to avoid the girl while she was holding sharp objects, Shikaroku turned his focus back to Kyoi. "No questions from me," he stated coldly.

Duty would force Shikaroku to complete this mission, but it didn't mean he had to like it. Complaining would accomplish nothing, however, and he already knew what Hiron would say if he tried to wiggle his way out of it. Sighing inwardly, the Nara waited for the briefing to be complete.

"Preferably, the officer should be left uninjured for ease of taking him back to our camp, but if it can't be helped then so be it. We'll also have to make sure he can't kill himself." Kyoi clarified to Masami as Junko pitched a question of her own and Shikaroku seemed to hold back on asking anything… He seemed uncomfortable, but they could get to that after the mission.

"If we do our jobs properly none of the lower squints will be fleeing. But if by some coincidence one of them does slip past us then cut them down. As a note, if we're to split up for any reason then I will pair up with Junko while Shikaroku and Masami will pair up, to ensure that no one gets caught unawares somehow." She would wait a moment for their confirmation that they understood before speaking again. "Double check your equipment, then we'll depart, once we're in the vicinity of the camp and have eyes on their positions we'll form a plan of attack and strike."

Now Kyoi would give them time enough to recheck their gear and be sure they're not leaving anything important behind, taking the time to do the same herself.

Seeing that her subordinates were all prepared, Kyoi whistled for their attention and gestured to follow. "We're heading out, moving fast and quiet. Be sure not to fall behind." Without further ado she would head the direction of the enemy camp they were set to eliminate.

-------------------------------------

As the team progressed through the woods towards the camp the first sign of trouble to rear its ugly head was the excess of human tracks, without insight on the camp itself it was difficult to tell whether it was due to additional soldiers deployed to the camp or just an eagerness to patrol. Quietly Kyoi would observe the tracks with a concerned stare before gesturing for the team to continue moving.

Soon they reach a vast range of hills, a majority of which tall enough to make any ascent tedious. Before long though, the camp was in sight, resting atop one of the many hills in the area and visually proving to be at least somewhat protected by wooden stakes surrounding the camp itself.

Kyoi would sigh quietly as she took in the view before her, at this kind of range they didn't have too many options in terms of assault, but she would lead the team up to the top of one of the other nearby hills to observe from within the trees more or less out of clear sight for the time being. The mid-afternoon sun was on it's way out but there was plenty of sunlight for the time being but it wouldn't be too long before night would begin to descend. "Visual contact reveals that our scouts numbers were off, we're dealing with double the reported numbers. Most look to be ill equipped but that shouldn't be cause to underestimate them. With this in mind, we need to sow discord within their numbers as soon as we begin to reduce their visibility and coordination. Would anyone like to give some suggestions on what they think would help in that respect?"

Junko listened to Kyoi's latest findings as she too looked over the palisade camp. It was a decently enough encampment placement wise but an ant hill guarded by worker ants was still a weak defense despite numbers. The genin looked to the other two within the squad. She was unsure of what each of them were capable of but obviously they had more actual experience. So, she decided to throw out a suggestion.

"If we attack at night we could set fire to the palisade perimeter. Since they'd be looking outwards towards the blazing fortifications they'd have a harder time seeing than we would. The presence of fire surrounding them would cause natural disarray among them as well."

It was simple, perhaps even elementary. However, sometimes that's all you need. The genin had no way of causing sudden mass flames herself and didn't know if any of them could either. If not this simple plan would be a bit harder to pull off most likely. Requiring flammable oils and firestarters.

Observing the enemy encampment, Shikaroku was torn. He had already been dreading this mission and the fact that they had been ordered to kill everyone except the primary target. Now that their opposition had just doubled, it meant he was likely going to have to take even more lives. Listening as Junko proposed her plan, Shikaroku paused to consider the options. When she had finished, he glanced away before opening his mouth to speak. "If we attack at night my techniques are basically rendered useless. That may not affect the overall plan, but if we're already heavily outnumbered, it may be best to ensure we have every possible advantage."

Turning back, he proposed his own suggestion. "I would recommend that we launch a diversion to draw some of them out. Splitting up their numbers gives us a better chance of taking them down." Pausing, he scratched his chin before continuing, "Should the diversion work and we take out a number of the enemy forces, we can then move in on the camp, attacking from two different sides to divide their attention further."

Masami observed the camp with a face that showed no emotion whatsoever, her Byakugan already activated and trained on the camp. The fact that they would face double the opposition was somewhat troubling, but she did not ponder upon that. That's how things are, and we'll deal with them, she thought as the two approaches were suggested. She briefly pondered on both of them. Masami guessed that Kyoi would want to hear her suggestion as well.

"Why not combine both approaches? We can first use the divide and conquer way Shika suggested, and once we'll sow enough chaos and thin their numbers, we can approach the main camp. The fires could create something for you to work with, should they be strong enough? If not, I can use my water release to create a smoke screen that would severely limit their vision, while me and Kyoi would be unaffected at the cost of limiting that of Shika and Junko. My suggestion is - they are bound to have patrols on. We should be able to pick them off, one by one. Then we can take up positions on opposite approaches to the camp and work through them. With our efforts combined, a pair of Byakugan on both sides, there is no way our target will slip past."

"All valid ideas, despite the differences in approach. It would be best for everyone here to be able to use their abilities to the fullest, so we'll attempt a divide and conquer, they may get wise to what we're trying before we can take out a significant number of them but we'll deal with that if it happens." Kyoi would gesture down toward the base of the hills.

"Myself and Junko will approach the hill, with the sun on their side to ensure they can see us. Once we're obviously spotted we back away as quickly as possible, if this officer is as competent as he seems he might suspect we're up to something, but he still wouldn't risk letting us get away. Shikaroku and Masami will be waiting deeper in the tree cover for us and any pursuers and we'll collectively take them down. Based on how many we catch out there, we'll make our attack exponentially easier. You can use whatever techniques you deem necessary to trap and eliminate enemies and be sure to cover for one another in case someone makes a mistake. Does everyone understand?" Kyoi wouldn't take long to look between the three of them for confirmation before she would make sure she was limbered up and ready.

Provided there were no objections, Kyoi would begin down the hill to get this operation started. "Let's move. Junko, with me."

Junko expected the three she was with to come up with better plans of action than she could come up with. They were more experienced and likely knew of each other to some degree so they could plan more according to everyone's abilities. Junko was of course interested in seeing what her squadmates were capable of. She just listened quietly and nodded as Kyoi finalized the plan of action. The divide and conquer strategy was also pretty simple but effective if not half assed. Once Kyoi gave the order to use whatever necessary to trap and eliminate enemies, Junko's expression changed to her awkward soulless smile.

"Right~"

The genin replied as she swiftly followed just behind and to the right of Kyoi as the bait team.

Nodding to Kyoi as she asked for confirmation that they understood, Shikaroku's expression remained neutral but inside he was in turmoil. When Kyoi and Junko had left earshot, he turned to Masami, hesitating for a moment before glancing away. "We should get set up," he began, his tone slightly distant. "Depending on the size of the party they send out, I can trap them for you to take out." Without waiting for a response, Shikaroku began moving further into the trees, searching for a good place to set up their ambush.

He was both relieved and nervous to be paired up with Masami. She knew him the best and they'd worked together before, so he knew they'd be able to function well as a unit. However… Shikaroku was still uncertain about killing. It was not something that came easy to him, despite Hiron's best efforts to teach him how essential it was to a shinobi's job. He didn't want to let Masami down, or put her at risk if he froze up at the wrong time. Doing his best to shake the thoughts from his mind, Shikaroku tried to focus on the task at hand. The more he stressed, the more the pressure would build in his head and he absolutely could not afford to get another migraine right now...

Masami listened to Kyoi about the approach they would take - combine elements of both strategies. Simple, yet powerful. With Shika by my side, they don't stand a chance[\I], she thought to herself before closing her eyes for a few seconds. She silenced her mind, and did her best to push all emotion to the side. She did this before every mission, in hopes of calming herself down. She was not sure how it would work with Shika, but she didn't want to endanger him by making the wrong call in a clutch situation." Understood, Kyoi-sama." She felt a slight relief upon being paired with Shikaroku, and a slight tingle of worry about him, and mostly his predicament. She turned to face the Nara who, after a brief look, shifted his eyes away from her, suggesting for them to move out. She was somewhat taken back by his distant tone, but decided to brush over it.

"Agreed. That could work, but I don't want you to push yourself too hard." She went after him, looking at his back.Please[\i], she added in her mind. As they moved through the dense forest, her eyes were on the lookout, looking for the perfect spot to ambush them, which presented itself in the form of a small clearing, slightly to their left." A small clearing, to our left. If we could make them pass there when Kyoi-sama and Junko lure them away, we could use what light remains to your advantage. We'll than make quick work of them. What do you think?"

[ Amegakure, Rain Province of the Akinian Empire ]
[ Rini Yoto | Chuunin ]
[ Operation: Crow Nest ]

Sitting on the rooftop, there was some shelter against the never-ending rain. Her coat provided some comfort and protection against the cold and wet weather. But the best addition was that the dark grey coat allowed Rini to blend in easily with her surroundings.
The small telescope usage provided her with some assistance in keeping a check on her target, a sombre set of complexes. The folk that entered the complexes or exited them were the kind that either seemed sketchy or rough. Not the people that Rini imagined were going there for a quick drink and talk.
While not having experience, she had become aware that plenty of establishments provided lodging and such to figures that were considered 'unhealthy' for most people. But mercenaries needed a place to stay and get hired, Rini figured.
Raising the telescope, Rini closed her left eye as she adjusted the primitive instrument, allowing her to spy on her target. She had been able to fish out some faces. Their purpose was lost on the chuunin, who didn't know how to tell what those men were doing. Were they look-outs in case the local authorities decided to swarm in and close the shop? Perhaps guards that did rounds and made sure that they got tight control on the perimeter?

Then a cold chill ran down her spine. A familiar grumpy face with red hair was approaching the entrance of the suspected establishment. Rini's grip on the telescope tightened as her heart skipped a beat.
What out of all people was Sho doing in such a place? She had heard some rumours that he got kicked out of the corps. Not something that had concerned her; she and Sho had never been close. Hell, she was surprised it took this long for that guy to be kicked out.
Still, his presence was sudden and made Rini feel confused. Lowering the small instrument, Rini debated her options. Her curiosity was trying to coerce her to take a look inside the establishment. What could go wrong, right? If the likes of Sho could enter without a problem, why couldn't she!
Then again, the mission instructions were clear. Rini had to observe, take notes and report back. If she was discovered, she had to fall back and get the information to the jounin commander.

The soft tip-tap sounds of the rain were calming, drowning some of the ambiences of the city. Her eyes half-closed as her mind went over the possible aftermaths that could occur upon her decision.
A soft sigh escaped Rini's lips, just before her raincoat lifted due to the sudden acceleration of the chuunin sprinting forwards. Jumping and vaulting towards a new position, Rini placed the small telescope away. Her gaze was locked on the establishment where she had seen Sho enter.
Dropping from a considerable height, Rini managed to break her fall with a quick roll - only to move back on her feet swiftly. Rini's expression was grim was enough to make a nearby pair of adults not question the chuunin - only to quicken their pace to walk down the street.
Nearing towards the door, Rini already noticed that one of the thugs had noticed her. Their eyesight met, but the determined glare of Rini seemed enough for the man to either ignore or her. Or not see her as a threat; either way? It worked out for her, Rini thought herself.
Placing her gloved hand against the door, Rini pushed it and stepped forwards.

The interior was like she expected. The dim lighted area was packed with people that seemed to be the scum of the earth, the stench of alcohol. The only relieve some soft music played by a small band.
Entering the interior further, Rini kept her hood on. Wanting to reach the bar, a hand clasped around her wrist as something pressed against her side - a sharp point, likely a knife.

"The fuck are you doing here, you dumb short fuck."

[ Republic of Water, Kirigakure | Capital of the Republic ]
[ Team Nishi | A collab between @Nim , @Jessie Targaryen , @Celestial Scorpio and @Oetje ]

[ Team Nishi is tasked with guarding an unit of soldiers, to get some supplies and bring it back to the city. A mission that seems without any sort of danger. However, the situation around Kirigakure has caused some tension to grow and make even the most simple mission suffer a likely attack from the Terror of Jiaowei-District. ]

Nishi watched as the soldiers readied the waggon. It wasn't going to be anything special. But recent events have spooked a lot of people. Important people, Nishi mused to herself as she kept watching the soldiers.
The mission itself was relatively simple. The objective was to make sure that the payment would reach the respective farmers. Then? It was simply escorting the supplies back to Kirigakure.
All and all, it wasn't complicated or promised much chance for dangers. This would be an assignment that could be carried out with a small unit of soldiers and perhaps even a team of genin. Nishi did understand that recent events had pressured for more security - regardless what assignment or its rank.

Throwing a look at her right, Nishi wondered how long she would have to wait for her team. Truth be told, she hadn't paid much heed to the genin and chuunin. A bit of respite was required after what had occured on the previous mission. Even as Nishi saw the previous mission as nothing truly impressive or special; such scenarios were most common during open conflicts - a matter exciting and dreadful perhaps to the inexperienced lot that were Nishi's pupils.
Perhaps they needed more missions like these, Nishi pondered as she focused her gaze back on the soldiers.

While it felt like a relatively short break to spend with her mom, Hikari was grateful at the thought of having another mission. It meant another chance to try and make up for what had occurred in the previous mission. This time, at least, it seemed they were not going to head out on a ship, but rather by land, seeing where the meeting place was located. After bidding yet another goodbye to her mom, Hikari left and made her way to the designated spot.

Arriving, Hikari saw there was a waggon being prepared. While she wondered about it, she went and approached Nishi, who was standing nearby. She bowed towards Nishi "Hello Hirashima-sensei." Hikari said, before rising and then looking around some more. The fact there were soldiers that were attending to the waggon and not civilians made her wonder if they would be working alongside those soldiers, but she decided to wait and hear the briefing from Nishi before asking any questions she had in mind.

The short break from missions to be back at home had been anything but relaxing to the Yuki. Her father had seemed to arrange an endless amount of visitors coming and going for various business dealings, and so of course his family had to help play host. It was truly exhausting. Coupled in with the fact she had to deal with 'her betrothed' once during the break, she was more than happy to have an excuse to be out of there. Still, it was bittersweet as going on a mission only served to remind Yukimi of exactly what had happened on the previous mission.

Arriving not long after her teammate, Yukimi looked for a brief moment at the wagon being prepared and the soldiers gathered around it. For a moment, she wondered what was so special in the wagon that required such a guard. Though at the same time, she figured that it likely wasn't any of her business unless she was told exactly what they were escorting. Quietly making her way towards the two, Yukimi bowed politely towards Nishi then Hikari. "Greetings, Hirashima-Sensei" She said, then turned and gave another polite bow of her head towards Hikari. "Hello, Torimoto-san." She said towards both, before falling silent to wait along with them for the rest of their team. Afterall, this team hadn't really been much for small talk thus far, a trait which the Yuki could appreciate.

The short time home gave Claire a breather, even if brief. She spent her time with her mother, not going over much aside from being on a ship and traveling. The genin was just happy to have made it back, especially knowing all that hadn't made it home. When she heard they would set out once more on another mission the girl began her trek to the meeting spot. Upon arrival she saw her team waiting for her. Luckily Claire wasn't late, not early but still on time. Bowing to her team she smiled. "Good morning sensei, Yukimi, Hikari." Her eye's shifted to the wagon curiously but she didn't ask about it. Claire knew it wouldn't be wise and even if she did ask, an answer most likely wouldn't be given.

Watching her pupils arrive and provide a greeting, Nishi simply returned the greetings with a mere nod of her head. Now that they were all together, Nishi threw one more look at the soldiers. It seemed that they had time for a small briefing, Nishi mused to herself.
"The current mission is assigned to us because of the recent events that have troubled Kirigakure during our absence," Nishi began, her tone calm and neutral, "we are to simply move with the soldiers. Get the supplies and then make sure that the supplies reach Kirigakure back. The brass honestly doesn't consider this a high vital mission or one with much risk. But apparently, there have been various interferences with other tasks, such as simple patrols. So if you don't want to wind up with a bolt in your throat, I suggest to stay vigilant."

Hearing one of the soldiers whistle hard as they managed to get the waggon be attached to a pair of horses, Nishi raised her right hand. "We move out now. Do not engage, use ninjutsu or think of any action other than to defend yourself, unless I order so. The usual drill," the jounin stated as she lowered her hand - gesturing the team to start moving behind the waggon.
Despite the almost natural distrust that soldiers had towards shinobi, there was barely any frown or remark made towards Nishi's team by the present lot. The respective soldiers seemed okay with ignoring the presence of the kunoichi, just talking about some trivial matters.

Offering a nod towards both Yukimi and Claire as they arrived, Hikari turned her full attention to Nishi when the jounin began her short briefing. So this was meant to be a simple escort mission, from what it sounded. It also answered her unspoken question about working with the soldiers. Once Nishi was marked it was time to move and gave her final instructions, Hikari started following Nishi "Understood Sensei." She said.

The instructions were straightforward and fairly simple, don't act unless ordered and stay vigilant. Giving a nod of acknowledgement, the Chuunin opted to stay quiet and chew over her own thoughts as they started to follow along behind the wagon. The Yuki mostly wondered how much interference had been encountered during tasks like this for a detachment of soldiers and a shinobi team to be assigned to something such as this. It was enough that it made her wary and caused the Chuunin to aptly pay that much more attention to their surroundings. Keeping a careful eye on likely ambush spots for suspicious behavior.

Despite the task being simple, Claire wasn't so sure it would stay that way. When had things ever gone smoothly and straightforward? Once the briefing was finished and the soldiers began to escort the wagon, the genin followed. Taking up behind the others she watched silently, her hands fidgeting together. If an ambush were to happen she'd have to be on her feet and act fast. Naturally she did grow curious about what would come. Claire also wondered about her team and what was going through their minds. It seemed times were getting more and more chaotic around Kirigakure, she hadn't heard much from the others aside from meeting for this mission. Picking up her pace the genin made sure she was close at all times with the group.

For many hours, nothing occurred that could be described as worrisome. The soldiers continued to guard the waggon while Nishi's team followed suit. There was the occasional pause to let one's feet rest briefly before the pace was being picked up again. When it appeared to be lunch time, the two groups had a respectable distance between them as they 'enjoyed' their rations.
Continuing towards their goal, the group passed several large farm houses where the soldiers did the talking. The local farmers seemed to be a bit wary but were clearly expecting the small company. The aid of farm hands aided the process of loading supplies onto the waggon. A process that was repeated several times before it started to become dark.
Traveling back to Kirigakure was a rough eight hours on foot but would take longer with the dark of the night. Not to mention that the waggon was filled up and most were exhausted already. Leading to the sane decision of requesting to spend the night in a barn.

The large barn had enough space for the soldiers and Nish's team to keep their distance and place the waggon in a safe spot. The fact they were inside meant no need for a fire to keep the night's cold away.
With some hay thrown on the ground Nishi placed her sleeping bag over it.
"Tomorrow, we are going to travel back. It is going to take a bit longer but stay watchful," the jounin said as she proceeded to sit down on her sleeping bag, "if not for being ready for trouble, to avoid nagging officers when we get back."
The jounin had some doubts but there was something that didn't sit right with her. A doubt that she didn't want to discuss with the genin or chuunin - due to their inexperience. And preferring to not sow to any anxiety.
"Eat your ration and then get some rest. I will take the first watch."

The Chuunin almost found herself wishing there would be trouble during the mission. Not because of some ninja-sense for danger, but simply because it was so… boring. Just about the most exciting moment of the day has been a bird rocketing out of a nearby tree, and catching attention from the noise it made. But otherwise? It was straightforward and calm. Farmers expected them, farm hands helped load the wagon, and they moved on. A dreadfully monotonous repetition, yet one that Yukimi knew was familiar to these people.

After a long day of escorting the wagon, the group was finally able to rest for the night. Although a barn was… most certainly not the privileged girl's first choice of lodging, she didn't make any complaints. A sleeping bag on hay was absolutely the kind of bedding she had been raised to believe was beneath herself, though she didn't exactly have much of a choice here. Not to mention, as she was learning by seeing plenty of the farms outside the village, some people genuinely might have to live that way. The Yuki couldn't imagine having like this. As she heard Nishi's words about ensuring to stay watchful, the Yuki nodded before speaking up. "I'll handle the second watch." She said, already knowing she wouldn't be getting much sleep overnight anyways. With a soft sigh, she began eating her rations while absent-mindedly teasing a little ice crystal around above the palm of her free hand, using it to force her mind to be clear and hopefully lull herself to some semblance of sleep on the rather uncomfy bedding.

The way to the farmers was quiet. Hikari couldn't help but think that was for the best. The less trouble there was, the faster they could finish and the faster the people who needed these supplies would receive them. It may have been a bit dull, but she knew it was anything but dull for those who were waiting, relying on the arrival of these supplies safely.
After they arrived at the farms, Hikari watched as the exchange was made and then the people who worked to put the supplies onto the wagon. It was clear they were used to this type of manual work, and she briefly wondered if they were content with it, or if perhaps they wanted something more. Many were raised to do one thing, and leaving it behind was a hard task. She still had some small thoughts, at times, if perhaps she should've just followed her grandfather's direction for her, of a housewife and nothing more.

After they were allowed to sleep in a barn, Nishi went and spoke to them, explaining how things will be. The instructions were straightforward. No funny business and to keep focused on the task at hand. After Hirashima-sensei said she'll take first watch and Yukimi said she'll take second, Hikari nodded "I'll take the third watch." She said. Laying down, she hoped things would improve. If not for herself, then for those who were in the quarantined area. And those who had families inside but were separated from their loved ones. And then perhaps, her mom would have it easier too.

Upon reaching the barn, Claire was still wide awake. Listening to Nishi she nodded and waited to see who wanted what shift. "I'll take the last watch then." Standing with her back to the wall she waited a moment before eating some rations and getting ready to sleep. Glancing to Yukimi she saw the chuunin fiddling with a crystal. "Can't sleep?" The genin took a seat next to the other and laid out her sleeping bag. "Wouldn't say it's ideal but it beats the cold ground. Wonder if something will happen tonight?" Looking around the barn, Claire laid on her back and looked at the ceiling. Her fingers fidgeting together from the lack of tiredness. Shifting her gaze to Hikari she was curious if the girl had fallen asleep or if she was having trouble sleeping as well.

The tranquility wouldn't be disturbed. Time slowly ebbed by as the nearby soldiers enjoyed rations of their own. The soft sound of dices rolling over the ground was mixed with their mumbling and chuckling. Yet, an brutal end would come to the peaceful atmosphere.
One of the soldiers slowly fell forwards, gurgling as his hands shot towards his throat. Another just slumped down, his back to Nishi's team but the motion of the soldier betrayed something sinister.
The last remaining two soldiers gasped and attempted to shout something. But it was drowned in a gasp of agony and pain before they slumped to the ground.

In what was a mere moment, the accompanying soldiers were laying on the ground. In the dim light of their small fire, a few objects reflected the light and betrayed the soldiers' reason of death; crystal shards lodged in exposed areas, allowing blood to drip and flow onto the ground.

Nishi shot up from her position, her right hand pulling out a kunai. Eyeing the soldiers, she was caught by surprise. Unsure of what was transpiring, she narrowed her eyes as she stayed vigilant. There was only one way out and it was past her team, to the door.
Realizing that the murder was still around, Nishi remained silent. Whatever was lurking was waiting for a chance to get out and past them.
"Hikari, close the door." Nishi instructed, her gaze still searching for what could betray their hidden enemy. If anything, Nishi was attempting to detect any sound that their foe was trying to position themselves closer - likely to then strike without hesitation.

Hearing Nishi stand caused her to quickly stand up, her hand on the handle of her tanto. She wasn't aware of what occurred, but if something had caused the jounin to be alerted, then it was certainly a cause for worry. After a moment of silence, Hikari heard the instruction given to her, and began walking towards the door, moving as quietly as possible. She wanted to try and still remain alert for any potential sounds from around them.
Reaching the door, Hikari pulled it, shutting it in front of her with a thumping sound. It wasn't the loudest thump, but it felt loud enough for the genin to become wary that it could easily alert others. She started to draw out her tanto slowly, trying not to make any sound with it.

Seconds before she was about to fall asleep Claire heard the others moving around. Sitting up she glanced towards the soldiers to see them in odd positions. Getting to her feet quickly she heard Nishi order Hikari to shut the door. Watching her teammate move to the door she readied her sickle, eye's watching intensely for any movement that wasn't the team. Not making a sound she heard the thump of the door closing, yet Claire felt the threat was still around and likely waiting for an opportunity. With the only way in and out closed she looked along the walls, hoping they were stronger than they looked.

Yukimi quickly found out that she wouldn't be taking her second watch before they had an interruption. Quite the change from the boring pace of the day, as she heard her teammates moving and the order to shut the door. That order alone caused the girl to immediately on alert, as she carefully drew a kunai, ensuring to keep quiet as she scanned the darkness. She also had a hand resting on her canister's lid, ready to open it for emergency use if needed. While she hadn't seen what had put the team on alert, she knew that it was better to try to be prepared. As such, she continued to scan their surroundings, looking for even the slightest disturbance.

Silence started to plague the barn. Nothing seemed to indicate that the unknown enemy was fond to make the first move or escape its current hideout. As time painfully continued to drip past, it nearly seemed as if the enemy had already escaped.
Then it all happened at a rapid pace.
From the mere ground, razor sharp thorns of crystal erupted - about to impale anyone who didn't attempt to move away from the approaching onslaught.

Nishi's eyes widened as she quickly backed away - evading the sudden eruption of crystal thorns. Pulling a kunai, the jounin was barely in time to deflect a growing thorn from impaling her right arm.
Watching the thorns, she tried to discover anything that could lead to the creation of the crystal thorns. Not able to detect the source, the jounin narrowed her eyes and tightened her grip on the kunai's handle.

Hikari felt as though time was coming to a halt as she waited for something to happen. But before she knew it, crystals started coming out of the ground and headed towards them. Fully drawing out her tanto, she blocked a pair of the incoming crystals as she backed away, until she managed to get on top of a hay bale. It was far from being the most ideal or secure spot, but she kept her eyes peeled for anything that may happen.

Even with the silence, Claire didn't let her guard down. It seemed this would be the waiting game. Once the ground began to erupt crystals she quickly moved. A second later and her leg would have been impaled, the crystal just cutting the surface of her calf. The cut quickly leaving a thin line of red that started to trail down her leg. Taking an explosive tagged kunai in her hand, the genin kept it at the ready in case they needed to have a quick exit through a wall.

As the silence was suddenly broken by the eruption of crystals from the ground, Yukimi's shot wide, she deftly danced out of the way of the growing crystals. Able to avoid the incoming attack well enough. Two can play at that game. She thought to herself, though she did not respond in a flashy manner such as their attacker had done. Instead, she place a hand on the canister of her chakra infused water, ready to open it in a moment's notice, but also appearing as if she were just trying to steady it. Hopefully, she would be prepared for the moment it might come useful. Her other hand stayed locked tightly around the handle of her kunai, and her gaze vigilant of the surroundings, hoping to find even a hint of their assailant. Particularly looking along the path which the erupted crystals carved to see if their opponent lay in wait there.

Once more, it became silent. There wasn't any clear sign of what would follow the sudden attack of crystal thorns. Then a soft hissing followed, only followed by a bang that heralded smoke overflooding the room.
The thick smoke prevented much sight of what happened, only Nishi and her team would likely witness the sound of wood cracking and moaning underneath some unknown pressure.
Outside, a masked figure rolled out of the gap created. Rising up to their feet, the masked individual would briefly perform some hand signs before placing a hand on the ground. Rapidly, from the earth, another figure seemed to spawn - identical to the masked figure that had escaped the barn.

Detecting the hissing, Nishi already turned towards the door as she realised what was happening. Opening the door, she threw a look over her shoulder. The smoke quickly enveloped the interior that they were in before.
"Get out, now," Nishi ordered as she was fully aware that her pupils stood no chance to fight without any form of sight.
Once outside, she spotted the figure of before. Wasting no time, the jounin brought her hands together to weave a sequence of handsigns.
Only to crouch and place both palms against the ground.

Suddenly, the ground started to tremble before large blocks of the land began to break loose. The process would cause most of the area to sport large mass of dirt and earth beginning to levitate.
"Hiraki," Nishi began as she felt a twing of pain rushing through her system, "I need you to reach one of those rocks at the top. We need to send a clear signal that we are dealing with something."

Raising herself, Nishi looked up as their foes were now standing on a levitating piece of rock. "Claire, Yukimi. Make sure that you try to prevent any harm done to the nearby farmhouse. Our secondary objective is now to keep the people nearby safe."

[ Beset upon their mission, Yukimi and Claire are being tasked to guard the nearby farmstead against any danger or attack from their foe. However, their foe seems to possess more experience and manage to steer the fight to just what they desire. ]

As smoke filled the barn, Nishi instructed the team to escape out of it. Without hesitation she followed their leader, gaining better vision on the situation. Looking at the floating debris Nishi created, Claire's eyes locked onto the two figures that stood on one of the rocks. At the order to protect the immediate area the genin nodded. "Understood." Putting the kunai away she began to weave hand signs, creating the chakra link to her sickle. "Any ideas Yukimi? Claire glanced at the chuunin wondering if she had any idea on a plan of action. The enemy was unknown and she hadn't recognized them or the jutsu they used to form the crystals. Staying alert Claire made sure to not get caught off guard and to listen to any suggestions or instructions.

Having escaped the barn alongside her team, Yukimi gave a nod in acknowledgement to the orders given by Nishi. Staring at the two two figures, the girl drew her Kunai, while also focusing and moulding some of her chakra on standby. "We play it defensive." Was her first response as she looked towards the genin for a moment before turning her attention back towards their crystal-wielding foe. "Their skill is unknown, we can assume its at the higher end. We need to keep them off the farmhouse, and we don't know how we'd fair on the offensive right now." She whispered, already preparing to use her techniques to protect the two should a sudden attack come at them. Hoping that they would be able to gauge their enemy's skills and find a weakness.

The masked figure and the clone looked down upon the Republican nin, a certain arrogance almost flowing from the calm posture - as if the mere collection of genin, chuunin and jounin meant nothing to them.
Then they split up.

One of the masked figures landed on a rock, the direction evident towards the nearby farmhouse. With a few handsigns, the masked figure placed a hand at the surface of the floating rock - causing only a moment later for shards of crystal. The rain of razor sharp crystal would cover a large area, including the genin and chuunin current position.

The Yuki swore as she saw the figure start to weave handsigns. "Move! She said to the genin with her, anticipating that this would be some form of attack. Already doing so herself, Yukimi made towards the farmhouse. As she ran, the Yuki focused her chakra and lifted an arm, spraying a jet of water from her palm in a path ahead of herself and slightly towards their opponent. With any luck, the pressure of the water from her technique would disrupt the crystals' flight, knocking them out of the way of the Chuunin and Genin. Continuing on her path even after she cut off the technique, Yukimi tried to cut off their opponent from reaching the farmhouse, tearing across the saturated grass. Still, she kept a careful eye on their opponent in case of another attack, gripping the kunai tight in her palm even as they closed on the inevitable fight.

Following Yukimi's lead Claire began to move, not taking a moment to slow down or stop. She kept an eye on the enemy as well as the farmhouse as they closed in on their destination. Spinning her sickle now she made the weapon move quickly, swinging it to hit some of the crystals knocking them to the ground. Though the amount she was able to hit were still few to the many that were created. Just from the small burning sensation on her leg, the genin knew these objects would be sharp. The last attack barely touched her but it was able to quickly cut her flesh on the surface. If this next attack were to be launched there would be damage done if they were not careful.

The masked enemy seemed content to observe the reactions of both chuunin and genin; as they responded to the rain of sharp crystal. The genin and chuunin seemed capable of protecting themselves from being shredded by the rain of sharp crystal. Slowly, the masked opponent would form a single seal.
While most crystal shards hadn't managed to deal sufficient damage to either Yukimi or Claire, the shards would briefly seem to shudder before a force caused them to burst; flinging sharp splinters into all directions around the chuunin and genin.

In the brief second she had to watch the crystals start to shudder, Yukimi swore. With the rain of shards all about the two of them, causing these shards to explode would create a deadly hail no doubt. Acting on instinct, the Chuunin closed her fist and focused her chakra as a dome of water sprung up around the two, and instantly froze into solid ice. Keeping her concentration on the task at hand, she focused on ensuring their bubble would protect the two within from the shards flying at them. "They are observing us, and I showed my ace. Careful, we're in a tight spot now." The girl said to Claire, watching their opponent through the clear wall of ice around them. "Any suggestions?" The girl asked the genin, even as she tried to plan their next steps.

As the shards began to move Claire wasn't sure how she would defend against the attack, luckily Yukimi had shielded them using ice. As she was told that they were being watched and observed the genin tried to think quickly. For now they were on the defensive, and she was unsure if offense even would benefit them or not. They were told to protect the immediate area so even if they could fight back, their focus should be primarily on safety. Watching as the shards seemed to be stopped by the ice she wondered something. "Your ice stopped the crystals, so they aren't strong, just fast and sharp. If we had a way to create more ice do you think we could get an upperhand? Or would that be too taxing on you? Surely a farm would have sources of water nearby you could use."

The ground briefly trembled, a mere second after Claire made her suggestion. Outside the dome, the masked figure threw more weapons with tags attached. Only upon making contact, the few shuriken with the tags exploded. Wood and rubble were thrown up into the air, drowning the screams that came from inside the farmstead that was being targeted.
The smoke that slowly started to rise from the various fires that were started by the attack was deemed enough by the masked opponent, who glanced at the ice dome. Only to collapse in fine crystal dust.

After escaping the smoke inside and making it out, Hikari's eyes narrowed. Nishi stood in front of her, and there were two mysterious individuals in front of her. With her Tanto still in her grasp, she watched as the Jounin formed some handseals before placing her hands on the ground, and making chunks of the ground suddenly begin to float. Upon hearing the orders given to her, she nodded and looked up. The rocks and dirt floating around didn't make it easy to figure out the most optimal path to the highest reachable point, but she wanted to try and memorize their locations if possible, before focusing some chakra on her feet and making a leap to the first floating rock near her. Her landing on it wasn't the smoothest landing, but she knew she couldn't just recklessly jump to the top when there was a threat right in front of her.

Watching the two figures, Nishi considered a certain approach. As Hikari started her advance, to reach the highest top, Nishi quickly moved to another rock - though close by to provide support for the genin.
Aware that they might face a foe that had capabilities to rival a jounin, Nishi wasn't fazed. Their goal was to simply hold some ground and, hopefully, be able to launch a sort of beacon into the air to alert nearby outposts.
Landing on a rock, Nishi pulled out several kunai as she tried to keep her sight on their foes.

The masked figure and the clone looked down upon the Republican nin, a certain arrogance almost flowing from the calm posture - as if the mere collection of genin, chuunin and jounin meant nothing to them.
Then they split up.

Landing on a rock, the mysterious foe weaved three distinct signs; Dog, Ram and ending in Boar.
Crouching, the masked figure slammed their gloved palm against the surface of the rock. It was resulting in a mass of mud to jump and threaten to engulf both jounin and genin.

Keeping her eyes on the two foes, one seemed to move away as the other landed on one of the rocks that was floating. As the figure formed the three handsigns, Hikari prepared to jump. It didn't matter what the figure was going to do, it was sure to be bad for them. And indeed, mud began rushing in their direction.
Jumping off the rock towards a slightly higher one, Hikari formed the Tiger seal and let out some fire in the mud's direction, aiming to cause the earth within the mud to dry up and harden, and then hopefully lose any momentum the technique may have.

Clicking with her tongue, the hint of a smile briefly appeared on Nishi's lips as Hikari responded to the enemy's technique. Aiming her kunai, the jounin threw the weapons to various rocks that were above their opponent - the tags of paper bombs attached to the kunai's ring fluttering in the wind.

Looking down, the masked opponent briefly observed both the genin and her jounin-sensei. Spotting the kunai and guessing their likely purpose, the masked person brought their hands together. Weaving through a short sequence, a strange occurrence seemed to happen around the masked enemy; crystal started to appear around the person, only to start rapidly expanding and penetrating nearby rocks - effectively starting to restrain the options for Hikari and Nishi to move around.

Landing on another rock, Hikari still kept her eyes on the enemy, who started forming yet another series of seals. Before seeing what the result was about to be, she spotted the papertags that were attached to the kunai, the ones that were now above their opponent. As she glanced back towards the masked enemy, she saw the crystal that started to form around them and how it started to spread to other rocks.
Being unsure of what to do, Hikari glanced towards Nishi. There wasn't any time to contemplate what to do. Looking at her surroundings and all the floating rocks around her, Hikari took out a smoke bomb, dropped it by her feet and activated it, making herself vanish into the smoke that spread around.

Nishi frowned, seeing the crystals starting to sprout and spread. Clicking once more with her tongue, Nishi formed the Seal of Confrontation. Within one or two seconds after the woman formed the respective seal, various small explosions occurred. Dust and rubble started to rain and obstruct some of the target's vision.
Moving to another rock, Nishi already focused on weaving more handsigns to prepare her next technique.

The masked figure was about to turn towards Hikari, the dark gloved hands flexing their fingers. But before the unknown enemy could make another move, it was surprised by the sudden obstruction caused by Nishi.
"Tch," the masked figure would form various more signs. Resulting into the crystals to sprout and grow faster, in a more sporadic fashion. Out of the obstruction of dust and rubble, the masked figure seemed to drop themselves - aiming to head towards the ground.

As the smoke went over her and obstructed her sight of the unknown enemy and Nishi, Hikari took out a kunai with an explosive tag. Flinging it as strong as she could against the rock she stood on, she watched as she could hear it just barely pierced and got stuck in the rock, managing to stay upright, but the slightest touch would likely cause it to fall over. Biting her lip as it was an incredibly dangerous move, she recalled where she last saw the other floating rocks.
Hearing something from beyond the smoke, Hikari hoped Nishi was still holding herself well against the unknown foe. She gathered some chakra into her feet and then placed her foot on top of the kunai, before pushing against it to cause herself to jump somewhat higher with the chakra. Forming a seal as she gained some distance from the kunai, the explosive tag would explode, blowing up the rock Hikari was on before, and sending hot air around. While it did little to shift her movements, Hikari hoped it would provide a distraction, as she turned her gaze back upwards and formed a single seal in her hands, holding it and preparing the chakra.

Landing on another rock, the jounin noticed that their opponent seemed to manouvre themselves to get closer to the ground. Realizing that it provided more material for them to crystalize, Nishi was about to respond. After all, Hikari seemed to pace rather fast towards a desirable position to provide a light signal.
Nishi's hands shot towards each other as she was about to deliver an attack from above. A series of loud sounds caused her to throw a look over her shoulder. Her eyes widened upon the sight of the various explosions that had hit the nearby farmstead.
"Shit," Nishi cursed as she had to wager her options quickly. Throwing a look at their opponent, the jounin realised that she had to pick between to continue the fight or doing something about the farmstead.
"Hikari, hurry up with that signal!" Nishi shouted as she turned, aiming to head towards the various fires that were starting to damage the farmstead further.

As she kept rising higher from her boosted jump, Hikari heard Nishi call out to her. With the handsign ready and the chakra molded, she let out a burst of flame, aimed at the sky above her. She wasn't sure how high it reached or if it was sufficient enough, she only knew that as soon as she did so, she started losing altitude. Turning herself to look down, she spotted the smoke that was now rising from the farmstead.
Without hesitating, she turned her gaze to the floating rocks, landing somewhat roughly on the first one she could reach. Standing up and ignoring the slight bruising, Hikari started jumping downwards, clearly aiming to reach the ground and do the same as Nishi, head to the farmstead and the fires that started.

The fires were easily handled once the squad were out of combat. The damage that was caused had, however, done some damage that none of the present kunoichi could repair. The loss of life was something that a shinobi or kunoichi had to deal with. The sight of a mangled and pale child, however, was still something that shook even the most grizzled veteran of their vocations.
The people of the farmstead were either in a state of shock due to their sudden loss and realization that the damage could threaten their livelihood. Slowly, their dread and sorrow turned into anger and accusations; aimed at the living scapegoats. Nishi's team.
Under the leadership of Nishi, the team would slowly withdraw. There was a brief search conducted, in order to see if they could catch up with the culprit. The lack of tracks after a short while, however, made it clear that none of them would be able to find the mysterious masked foe.

Without the requested supplies or the soldiers that they had accompanied, Nishi's team would travel back towards Kirigakure. The weight of their defeat, the loss of innocent lives and more caused an atmosphere where none dared nor wanted to speak in.
Once returned into the capital of the Republic, Nishi calmly dismissed her team as she would state that she was going to report back about the state of their mission.

[ A collab between @Oblivion666 and @Lesli ]
[ Yumi meets up with a rather sketchy 'ally'. Having worked already several times with the mysterious and foreign operative, Yumi engages in a negotiation. Soon, a deal is made with likely horrible consequences for some people. ]

If anything, she wasn't sure why she was more on guard than usual. Meetings as clandestine of this nature were always a risk; the other party could decide to betray her, in all kinds of forms. But there were other options that were less appealing, in Yumi's opinion.
The meeting spot was a desolate farmstead; the owners had left it due to moving to the city. Likely because they desired a better future with more solid economical security; or because they lacked the people to take care of the farmstead.

Eyeing the building that was likely once a home, it seemed sad and damaged; much as how Yumi viewed the Republic. It was probably once a solid foundation, providing a home for those who toiled around it. Only now to be the meeting place of those that worked against its ambitions. How ironic.
Approaching the site, Yumi glanced around. Her eyes needed to adjust to the darkness that reigned supreme in the ruin. It seemed that she had arrived first. Which was good.

It was amusing to her, she had been sent to cause as much chaos as possible and she has and apparently then some. What were the possible odds that two people with the same ability happened to be in the same area ruining their enemies life? The only difference was she wasn't being blamed but the other one was seemingly getting the full brunt of some accusations. Kind of upsetting really. Did she work rather hard on that technique and for someone else to gain credit for it? Well, that was fine she supposed just meant she was allowed more fun.

Yet this was a peculiar choice for a…. talk. A location that was empty, she was unsure as to why. Area was fine for now she supposed, then again who was she to judge others for what they choose to leave behind. As she walked around from the back to the side she peered hard but she saw a dark figure moving towards the location. The other one perhaps? Well one way to find out. Doing some seals, a Pink colored Kunai appeared in her hand which she slammed into the wall. Tilting her head at the woman her guard ready in case this went south or this was some random person that needed to die.

Coming to a slow halt as Yumi noticed another figure. Seeing the other conjuring a kunai made of a curious material, Yumi flexed her fingers. Only to form identical hand signs, conjuring a similar-looking kunai - of the same material.
Lobbing the weapon towards the other person, Yumi patiently waited till the crystal kunai lodged itself into the ground - a safe distance from the other person.
"You are on time," Yumi started, approaching a few more meters towards the other. "I take it that you have figured a way out of Kirigakure, on your own then?"

A female voice? She looked at the kunai on the ground and smiled behind her mask as she looked towards Yumi. She spoke and she had to process the words for a little bit before responding back. She was still slightly unfamiliar with their language.
"Not very hard. Apply pressure in one area, the other goes away. Pressure applied in two? Well…. You get gist." She said her accent was clear as day difference from anyone she would know from back home or even from anything she might have heard in the Republic. It would be rather difficult to even pinpoint which culture it could be from. "But yes I have way out." She said as she looked at her from afar again. "You only one right?"

Her accent was pissing Yumi off. She didn't like it. Not because she couldn't recognise where it was coming from; it was just annoying for the Akinian. When she received the question, if she had came alone, Yumi raised her right hand. Only lifting her index finger upwards.
"I am alone, yes," Yumi replied, "I hope you are as well. Else this deal is off," the Scholae stated. Though it was likely obvious that any backstab would end their cooperation.
"So, how do you propose we go about this? I need a large distraction to further my goals. But what is the price? Information or aid in some form?"

Well she knew this woman wasn't anyone related to this country, she had been hearing how they spoke and her tone was different. "I am, we like to do things alone where I come. Makes it more…… interesting."
As Yumi spoke the lady was silent for a slight bit, a large distraction? She had a whole area on lockdown. How big did she need and what was that important. Information was nice, but aid? They had the same release but they most certainly operated very differently, it wouldn't mesh well.
"How big? I can think of ways, but how big? Aid not needed, we would just get in way of each other. Information always handy. Preferred on things to look out for."

"I need to have a lot of forces away from the port. Preferably, to the more land inwards districts," Yumi replied, frowning behind her mask. "Fair enough. I suppose we both prefer working alone. As for information," Yumi placed a hand on her hip and lightly shrugged. "I can provide information regarding VIPS, locations and some of the Republican units. Obviously, I hope you understand I will keep some information for myself, until you have done your end of the bargain. So on what or who do you need info?"

Away from the ports? Well now that was interesting, so this one now had a specific goal or target but needed eyes off her. "Understandable. As for who? Well I'm sure you've seen my handiwork. Anyone going into major areas will work perfectly for me to give you a distraction. Teams, noble, anything really. People that get further into an area would be preferred. Locations work as well but more risky if on alert."

Nodding slowly, Yumi thought about what she had learned of the various units that operated in the area. "How about that I give some intel about various units now? And then have an acquaintance of mine later deliver the rest of the intel, if you can manage what I desire?" Pausing for a moment, Yumi continued. "I will make sure that the information is actually written then. Makes it easier to keep track, I wager, of the various threats you got to deal with."

Tapping her mask she gave a nod. "Works. Depending on how many I get to. Distraction could take a day or two. I'm sure you will know when." She stated as she narrowed her eyes. She had an acquaintance here? Well her guard already went up further just hearing that. "You would be safe from any major city cause of release. Possibly tell acquaintance to avoid, or don't. None of my concern." She liked challenges, always had always will. So it was already exciting to her to figure out a way to give this woman who she should already be trying to kill a distraction. She did after all would have to go about this very carefully so all suspicion was still on the fact this woman was the one causing her crystal plague.

Nodding slowly, Yumi considered what she could arrange. "Don't worry about my acquaintances. They can handle themselves," Yumi replied. "You get your information. Cause the distraction and my acquaintance will work it out. Find you, no doubt," Yumi further stated. The Zero Teams would be able to figure some of this stuff out. "So we got a deal?"

Seemed like she would have to be keeping her guard up a bit more if these acquaintances could handle themselves. If she provided information though then she could get a distraction easily enough. "We have a deal. Must be quite the find if you need a distraction. Happy hunting I suppose."

"I like to hunt in peace and quiet," Yumi replied. "Get the distraction and you will get your information. And oh," half turning around, Yumi halted for a second. "Good luck dealing with those rats."

[The Crystal Banquet]
{An unknown woman in a city in the Republic inland starts something that could lead to horrific consequences.}
=======
Walking the streets normally, out of her normal attire and choosing a more culture appropriate one to blend in better. She felt horribly out of place in this place, despite being clothed she also felt naked in this strange attire. It put her mind at ease to know that she wouldn't be wearing it too long anyway. She had been walking around most of the day yet nothing seemed to click for her on what could be a good idea to start her plan. She had many ways but she wanted this to be big, on a large scale. It was honestly amusing too see if she could topple a country all by her lonesome at this point. It was that thrill that made her continue further and further. Yet she didn't want to just plant her crystals willy nilly. That wouldn't have a great effect, and too few would be infected before they were quarantined off.

Then she found something that peaked her interest, it was a place that people went in and out of seemingly in half hour intervals. Sometimes in clusters at that. Young people, old, couples, families. They all seemed drawn there, so she went in to investigate. As she neared it though she understood what it was. The smell hitting her nose indicated that this is where the masses ate outside of their homes. It did have a pleasant smell to it, granted the people could learn to be more quiet but that was even better in her opinion. Taking her seat she was brought a menu by this young woman with should length black hair. Seemed to be rather popular among the customers, had a cheerful disposition about her. Taking food out to multiple tables, she was in contact with many many things. Internally she was grinning, when the woman came to get her order, she would point at the menu "This one please."

After some time she would finish her food and exit the restaurant, she had stayed a little longer to observe her more. She was the perfect person to start this plan. She served easily over fifty people while she was there. Yet add her entire shift worth of people and this was going to be a plague that even she wouldn't want to be in the midst of. Laying in the shadows, that same woman would finally end her day at her job and seemed to head on home. It was night time now, she made haste back to her house. Entering her home she would let out a relaxed sigh as she sat on the couch. It became even even later when the woman would put her book down and stretch her arms before heading to the bathroom to get a shower before bed. Turning the faucet on, she would begin taking off her clothes when suddenly a hand clasped onto her mouth followed by a blade being dragged across the throat. The woman silently struggled lasted only a few seconds before her body went limp.

Humming a soft melody to herself as she grabbed a rag and covered her red stained knife. She did have many options she could go, she would have preferred infesting someone who got around to many locations. Spreading her disease to the public, but they seemingly weren't around enough or too busy covering other areas that were in a panic. Looking at her clean knife now she hummed happily as she stood up and turned the faucet of the shower off. She stared at the woman who laid dead with a slit along her throat, a smile grew as her plan was coming along well though and tomorrow it would bear fruit. She only needed a day after all so she didn't need to prolong the body's decomposing. The woman who was killed was a young lady, possibly in her middle twenties. The important part though was she had the job she needed to plant the seeds of death to this city, hell maybe even further if they traveled. Yes tomorrow she would be going to work as planned, It would be a busy day to be a waitress after all.

The next day a cheerful black haired woman in her twenties walked out of her house and waved hello to her neighbors, before heading off to work. It took a few minutes of travel but she would arrive at her job where she would put her waitress apron on, as she said good morning to the cooks, who were happy to see her again this morning. Grabbing food that came out for table after table, she would set them on a tray, each time a small glimmer would drop into the food, or soup to then be camouflaged into the yummy smelling substance. Then the food would be brought with the same cheerful disposition she saw the lady had yesterday. Granted it was making her honestly cheerful, the people were happily eating away and she had plenty of time left to go in her shift.

Then soon enough, the results would blossom like a beautiful crystal rose....

Events in the known world.

This GM post serves to bring news and rumours of what happens in the world. While some events might be vague rumours, twisted by the many mouths that spin the tales into something unimaginable, there are many more occurrences that will impact the clans and nations across the known world. Some events might be orchestrated in secret or openly by nations and clans, in a bid to weaken neighbours or rivals. At the same time, some events are the result of decisions (or lack thereof) in any shape or form.

The current year is 477 ADS,
The current month is May,
This GM post is not without plots and secretive actions of others.~

[ Wind Country / Sayyadian Kingdom ]

The bloodshed between the Sayyadian and Fang forces hasn't decreased. Even now, Sayyadian troops have launched several attempts to take over key-fortresses to drive the Fang's legionaries backwards. Despite facing opposition with more resources, the Fang legionaries are holding ground. Several rumours are already circulating that the Sayyadians are preparing to deploy a secret weapon. A weapon that will change the course of the war in their favour.
However, these rumours have yet to come true. The conflict seems to continue without the Sayyadians or the Fang troops coming out on top of each other.

There is no telling how long this conflict is going to continue. But the lives lost in the various clashes, assassinations and other violence are becoming harder to count with each passing day.

[ The Earth Country ]

Burning-village-in-2019-Fire-art-Fantasy-art-Burning-city.jpg
The civil war continues to rage on. Escape seems futile as the violence, intrigue, and despair seem to latch on to everyone. From powerful clans to simple households are being affected to the core.
Sons have buried their fathers, and daughters have seen their mothers wail to an early grave in two months of gruesome fighting.
No end is in sight yet as the civil conflict continues. Clans try to survive, swapping sides nearly every week.

One recent event has, however, send a shockwave across the realm. The city of Shangtou was under the control of the Hito clan. While the Hito clan attempted to remain neutral, refugees from nearby battlegrounds fled to the town and surrounding.
This already caused problems on its own, but the most stressing danger was an approaching army. Flying the Dragon Mother's banner, the queen-regent, the Hito clan, received the demand to bend the knee.
The Hito clan refused, stating that they didn't want to contribute any longer to the damned violence and bloodshed. As an answer, the Dragon Mother's army prepared a long siege.
Where the landscape rumoured to be one of the most beautiful in the southern sphere of the Earth country, with flowing meadows, its beauty reflected in countless art pieces has been defiled. Trenches have torn the earth apart - the beautiful fields filled with flower and products trampled by boots.

The siege lasted for nearly a month. The inhabitants and defenders of the city were by no means experts of warfare; their cohesion existing only because of the simple fact: surrendering meant to be enslaved or worse.
The fighting continued until two breaches were created by the large siege engines of the attackers.
The fighting continued for two days before the defenders got forced back by the fierce assaults. Soon after? The city of Shangtou got razed to the ground. Most of its population put to the sword; some say that the executions are still ongoing.

Fear has gripped the hearts of many as the story of Shangtou's razing spreads fast. Those who oppose the Dragon Mother and her allies have gained another grim reason to resist her, installing the last Earth Daimyo brother as the rightful monarch.

[ The Empire of Akino ]

[ The Tokugawa Clan ]
@Oblivion666

unknown.png
Not long after the decree of her Imperial Majesty, Kiyomi Homura, was made, the Tokugawa clan experienced much-needed rest. Not just a regular batch of Imperial operatives was sent to investigate the matter. A few Sworn Swords travelled and conducted a thorough investigation into the matter, regarding if the Tokugawa clan was behind the various raids on the Senju clan.
The investigation went without being opposed by the Tokugawa or those involved. However, the pieces of evidence that got found were too cold to chase. Not to forget, it seemed too unlikely that the Tokugawa were behind the raids.

Thus clearing the Tokugawa name of the slander.

But not the end of all the problems.
Shortly after the Sworn Swords departure, various conflicts are reported in major cities within the Tokugawa heartlands. Corpses were found with horrible wounds but their identities unknown - even after extensive research by the Tokugawa forces. Furthermore, any investigation into the bodies would lead to more questions, as if the previous living wanted to make sure that nobody could extract information from them.
What is further puzzling is the increase of violence that seems to spark. Some consider that criminal factions and gangs have decided to turn more aggressive, but the amount of violence as mysterious damage left each time a report came in has many wondering. It is still unclear who and what are fighting each other. But by the gruesome damage to property and various scared victims, it is clear: they aren't playing around.

[ The Hyuuga Clan ]
@GlitchyBugger

The various and rather sudden attacks have led the Hyuuga clan to come with a rapid response of their own. Surprising many other clans that have considered the Hyuuga clan to be a decadent as spiteful, the Hyuuga deployed a force. At first, it seemed that this new deployment was merely to enforce that the Hyuuga clan was bound to stay.
Instead of merely enforcing order and Hyuuga laws, the new deployed force started to provide various amenities, such as repairing the sustained damage and establishing more security.
This reaction has caused the local populace, certainly the commoners, to receive the Hyuuga positively. Some of the nobles are less thrilled; some expressing worries about the Hyuuga establishing themselves already as their overlords - without consulting the Tatetari nobility.

Alongside deploying some forces in critical positions to defend the people of Tatetari, the Hyuuga has sent diplomats towards the Hon and Tokugawa clan, asking if they are aware of suspicious activity on their borders to the Tatetari region.

[ The Fief of Matsukotan | Miyazato Clan ]
@FrostedCaramel

Things have been busy within the Imperial Fief that goes by the name of Matsukotan. The locals have become worried about the recent developments, such as the Miyazato leadership deciding to integrate the runaway mercenaries. Some are eager to point out that the mercenaries are foreigners; others state that it is foolish to trust those who know nothing but violence as a vocation. As quickly as unrest seems to blossom, the Miyazato clan acts just as swift.

In response, the Miyazato has organised several 'townhall' meetings. An open forum for the locals to have a voice to share their concerns and provide options - even perhaps come to a rational agreement. This open and somewhat gracious appearing decision has left the locals surprised and even a tad shy. Most of the meetings, as such, went without much trouble. A few did seem to go a tad shakier, but nothing that the Miyazato couldn't handle. The mercenaries leader was present as well - providing some additional aid in answering questions from the locals.

What seemed to help the case further is the Miyazato appointed the mercenaries to become valuable community members. After examination and aid from local veterans from the likes of the Great War, the mercenaries seem to be chuunin-ranked with a fair amount of experience.
The mercenaries would be put to various but simple peace-keeping tasks - under the strict watch of the Miyazato and several local members of the community.

As a result? A fragile peace has established itself. Not much has transpired since the developments until a large shipment of materials would be delivered at the central point. A caravan underneath the leadership of the Unkei clan, so it seems. Why is still unclear to many, but the Unkei didn't seem to mind not requesting pay. Only to return on the path, back to their heartlands.

[ The Fief of Mitsuokan | Riojin Clan ]
@Oblivion666

unknown.png
Located at the Fire and Rain province border, only separated by a large river from the Grass province, the Mitsuokan fief is a region visited by many travellers. Merchants, soldiers and whatnot. Beyond the various villages that provide some simple amenities, the area is both poor and relatively undeveloped for the traffic that comes through it. It is mainly due to either corrupt officials' mismanagement during the Fire Daimyo's or incompetent officials that were hoping just to lick enough heels to jump over to something more prestigious and rewarding.

As such, the populace is not too keen on the arrival of the Riojin clan. Many within the community are still quite wary of these newcomers, and some even dare to say that the Riojin will leave the moment they can. Despite the close vicinity towards the Rain province and its notorious wetlands, it is relatively fertile and quite suitable for various agricultural activities.

[ The Alaricus Clan ]
@Oblivion666

the-witcher-medieval-hd-male-profile-in-knight-armor-suit-artwork-wallpaper-preview.png
Tensions have risen, but ever since the Alaricus leadership has agreed to work with Lion's Fury, most of the worries have ebbed away. Though there are enough within ranks of the Alaricus or Lion's Fury that distrust one another, their cooperation hasn't led to any incidents. Lion's Fury knights' various sightings cooperating with the Alaricus forces have given rise to many rumours and whispers. Some whispered that the Alaricus leadership got tricked into believing that demons and such matters are a real threat.
However, various reports have reached the capital of the Alaricus clan. With their gained freedom to do their work, Lion's Fury's knights have started to conduct several investigations. More small villages have attempted to express their thanks for dealing with their 'problems'. Any questions about what these problems were would soon be revealed.

Lion's Fury managed to acquire a small mansion, turning it into a headquarters of the sort. From the outside, many brothers and knights seemed to conduct their training and tasks. Inside? It seemed closer to a simple complex than just house what the order deems necessary.
Upon further inspection and introduction to the Alaricus agents, the Grandmaster himself would show where they kept their 'captured enemies'. Behind strict and sturdy layers of security would they descend into the ground and dark.
There, the Alaricus agents would see the malnourished bodies with the eerie glance of madness in their eyes. The grey skin and other features seemed to remind one of decay and rot.

[ The Siluren Clan ]
@BlueFlameNikku

The anomaly within the Siluren woodlands has been quiet. The strict security of the Siluren has prevented all from getting too close. Yet, the eerie place has once more caused a disturbance.
As the guard nearby the site was in the middle of swapping, a bloodcurdling scream would erupt - cleaving through the forest.
Taking their positions and not letting anything or anyone in or out, the screaming continued for a short while. As a runner was appointed to run back and alert the Siluren leadership, the screaming and wailing source would reveal itself.

A man in ragged clothing, uttering a tongue uncomprehensible by the Siluren. Without knowing what to do, the guards have managed to drive the man back to the ruin, awaiting the commands of the Siluren leadership.

[ The Saemund and Sanosuke Clan ]
@Aliceee and @Nim

unknown.png
For a while, the Saemund and Sanosuke have been able to attack and harass several ships of their choosing. However, the recent few ships have encountered a dire threat.
Under the banner of the Seggrfold, a squadron of ships crashed through the waves. Their designs not being simple merchant ships that have fallen prey to either Saemund or Sanosuke. Instead, war galleys that professional sailors and marines man.

The first clash has sent two Saemund and Sanosuke ships to the bottom of the deep blue as several of the two northern clans have been taken captive, brought back to the Imperial province of Framí. Several more clashes have occurred since then, damaging more vessels of both Saemund and Sanosuke origin.
Though these Framí warships seem to be outnumbered, their lightning-quick attacks and tactics betray that they are well informed on the Sanosuke and Saemund privateering business.
Despite the increase in violence in the region, some business seemed to return. Mostly towards the Framíans and their services, which they seem to rather enjoy and intend on expanding.

[ The Republic of Water ]

[ Kirigakure ]

88989d427b7ee6391fb6ec0e454c266c.png
The current plan on eradicating the Crystal Blight seems to work off. Though many doubted the methods to threat Crystal Blight, the applications seem to work better every passing day. As the quarantine is shrinking, peace and order start to return to Kirigakure. Still, many grieve for their losses or have to accept their fate, having lost a limb or more to save their lives.
However, a sudden outbreak has broken out near the centre of the city. Several people have become sick and reported immediately to various establishments. The Shiranui, the Republican Intelligence Division, has moved out and traced the source of the outbreak to a mere restaurant. But within two days, more infected have reported themselves. As the Shiranui is investigating the matter, they report that whoever or whatever is responsible for the Blight spread must be mobile. The Shiranui is currently deploying several investigations to uncover more tracks and information on how the Crystal Blight is continuing its course through the capital.

[ The Nagi Island State ]

The Republic has deployed more troops and ships to reinforce its presence in and around Nagi. The information gained by 'Operation: Darkened Eyes' has given enough for them to know what they are dealing with. However, upon arriving and conducting searches as patrols, nothing has turned out. Many of the locals still hold on that the demons might return and can't just be caught with military means.
The lack of the 'demons' and their raids has led several captains to believe that the threat has either passed away or fallen back, anticipating the Republican response.

Bitter about not able to test their prowess against the mysterious enemies, the Republican forces continue to conduct their orders in the Nagi island state.

[ The O'uzu Island State ]

The matter within the O'uzu island state has been a delicate situation. With more Republican troops stationed after the recent 'cleanup' of Rongese forces, the whole island seems to be under Republican control again. The people don't seem caring much, for not much a change has occurred enough for them to care, solidifying that the Rongese hadn't done anything yet.

From the O'uzu island, the Republicans have obtained more comfortable locations to conduct patrols and keep the eastern seas under their control. Various sightings of strange vessels with black sails have been spotted. However, upon each encounter, the black-sailed ships seem keen to flee the sight than to confront any Republican squadron of warships.

[ The Far East ]
The war in the far east continues. The allied forces have taken up their positions. But with each passing day, each ensuing skirmish or another plan, it seems nearly a faint dream that this joint-campaign would only last a season.

In the north of the eastern continent, the forces of the Dominion have taken leadership. A fragile peace and cooperation exist between them and the Lagyrians, an alliance forged by the 11th Imperial division before they further south.
This alliance allows the Northerners to march further to the east, closing in on the borders between Lagyre and Onmos. The latter being a realm that even the Lagyrians don't have a surplus of favourable stories. They speak of thick woods and venomous animals as people that don't have any honour but rely on cowardice to survive.
Yet, the most immediate danger isn't the unknown of Onmos. It is a hostile force that bears the Rongese sigil. As these two armies march closer towards each other, time will tell which will be victorious.

In the centre of the campaign against Rong is the bulk of the Imperial forces. Moving with care further east as they make contact with locals, they start to learn more about the people and their centuries-long defeat against the supremacy of Rong. Either unfazed by the stories or eager to prove their mettle, the Imperials march further eastwards.
Much like their allies northwards, they are facing an opposition that is larger in numbers. Already a plan is formed, but already, several elements start to shake and crumble as the Rongese continue to move forwards.

The south of the campaign is where most violence is happening still. The Republican forces are working together with the 13th Imperial Brigade, continually facing-off against Rongese forces in various skirmishes. While the allied force has defeated the Rongese and gained more ground, it becomes a bleak image. Each victory seems to bring only more suffering. Every inch of ground only more enemies that want to take it back from Allied control.
Even now, the combined Republican and Imperial force seem to be facing another challenging obstacle: a large fortress with a considerable garrison bars their way further eastwards.

[ Eastern Continent | Sevudian Kingdom ]
[ The 11th Imperial Brigade | 'The Genin Squad' ]
[ A collab post between @RoranHawkins and @Lesli ]

[ Hideko Koyabashi and Aiko Cho start their first training together. It goes ... Okay-ish? ]

Once the genin had rested out, gained something in their stomach and dried out, Aiko would split the group up. With appeared to be no effort, the jounin created more clones as they split apart into the individual training part.
So far Hideko hadn't yet intrigued Aiko. Then again, it was way too early, Aiko reminded herself as she came to a stop. Turning around to face the young girl, Aiko placed her hands on her hips.
"Alright, Hideko," Aiko began, "earth release. I will do my utmost best to help you. In return, I need you to do the same. And who knows? Perhaps we can reach to the point where you'll be able to advance on your own? For now, however," the woman flashed a friendly smile, "let us pick a calm pace. Starting with some theory. What do you think when someone mentions Earth release?"

She was still snacking on that brown rice ball when she stopped, and she had swallowed all of it in a bit too much of a hurry. She coughed a bit, and with a mouth full of food, that was … hard. Nevertheless, she found it a pretty big gesture towards the jounin that she had managed to eat all that at once! "Hmmm." She started, the beginning uncharacteristically deep as she was still recovering from swallowing the rice ball. "I envision someone who can command the earth. You know, if there's someone going at me, and I manipulate the earth so that he's not doing that." She tried to explain. "But I'm only learning that. My previous sensei could make the earth move as he willed, and I attempt to do the same." She looked away for a second, and added: "And unsuccessfully so… But I'm learning!"

Listening to the genin, Aiko seemed rather content with the girl's response. "I know what you mean. Masters of Earth Release are nothing to scoff at. And I am happy to learn that you don't just see earth release as a way to defend yourself. It is just like you stated," Aiko continued, "it is a way to control and manipulate the very battlefield. As for not yet being on the level."
Aiko became briefly silent as her head subtly leaned to the right, "that is all fine. You are a genin. We can work on it, so don't be disheartened already. Instead, let us start right now."

Raising her right hand, Aiko raised only her index finger. "Let us approach the mastery of earth release in a few ways that are possible to us to indulge in. First is, your chakra control," Aiko began to explain, "It is vital to have a good control of your chakra. Which in turn allows you to use particular elemental or specialised jutsu beter. Second," another finger was raised as the woman continued, "tactics. It is great to know a particular jutsu but if you lack the idea on how to utilize effectively? Then you are wasting energy or worse. Third and final, for now," raising another finger, the jounin would conclude her explanation, "Experience. We can already confirm that the most advanced earth release techniques are beyond my scope of teaching. So how do we make you learn and advance without a source to rely on? We will evaluate battles and missions. What would have gone better? What usage of jutsu worked well for you? "
Lowering her hand, she paused for a moment before delivering a question to Hideko. "Any questions?"
Yeah, she knew all that. That was old news. She could be powerful, and all she had to do was train! Psh! The moment she actually went over to her training schedule her mood dropped like a brick. Chakra control? The thing that was there but also wasn't there? That thing? How well she controlled her chakra? Great. Another teacher who constantly put the main part of her training in chakra control. At least the second part was way more interesting. Tactics! She was about to do a tiny yay for tactics when she learned that the last part was experience. Duh. Last time she checked, that was why she was here!! "Yeah..." She said, underlining the uselessness of that question. "So… Let's get started?""

"Very well." Aiko half turned as she brought her hands together. Weaving a sequence of hand signs. From the thin air seemed to appear a torrent of water, slowly increasing in speed as some invisible force seemed able to keep it from spreading further from its spot.
"I am certain you're capable enough to stand on water, using concentrated chakra at your feet, no?" Aiko said, throwing a glance at Hideko. "Then this shouldn't be a problem, correct?" The jounin further asked, as the platform of whirling water started to produce a menacing sound - going faster with each second.

"Standing on water? I mean," She said almost perturbed by the thought. "one of the skills you need to learn to graduate at the academy." But the intention of the jounin's instruction seemed lost on her. "But what am I exactly doing with that?" She asked worriedly.

Aiko's head cocked to the side as she flashed a smile. "You try to stand on it. As you stated yourself, standing on water is something every genin knows and has mastered already," gesturing to the miniature maelstrom Aiko continued, "unless your chakra control isn't good enough. Then I may need to tone it down, for someone like you."

She narrowed her eyes. That was an insult. She must've been in contact with her previous sensei somehow, because he's the only one who knew or her trouble maintaining that level of 'chakra control'. "Pshh! Bring it!" She said with a lot of false courage. As she stepped in closer to the water, several doubts started appearing, but she waved them away. She should be able to do this. … Right?

Aiko did little to hide her amusement when it became clear that Hideko was wavering. The torrent itself started to go slightly faster, almost as if it could sniff out Hideko's hesitation. "What's the matter? I thought Academy students knew how to stand on water? This shouldn't pose a problem for you, right?" The jounin stated, crossing her arms out front of her chest. "What is the worst that can happen? Be drenched and thrown off?"

She ignored Aiko with a scoff and stepped forwards onto the water. Instantly, she stepped through it, and as she recollected her wits to have her second foot balance on, she just managed. Testing it out for a while, she managed to pull her foot out of the water and place it on. Steady… Okay. She was okay at this! She managed a few more steps to see how she was holding up, and it was rock-steady this time. "See?" She said, not without pride.

Clicking with her tongue as she watched Hideko brave the torrent, Aiko remained silent. The fact that the genin managed to stand made Aiko subtly nod. "There you go. Now, keep your focus at it. Let's say, for another two hours, yes?" The woman stated, hooking her right thumb behind her belt. "Just keep that focus on moulding your chakra and keeping your balance."
Forming the seal of confrontation with her other hand in a most subtle way, Aiko would watch as the small maelstrom started to spin wilder with each second - as if it had gained live and was most displeased with having a genin balancing on top of its surface.

The shock of what she said almost made her fall. "What?! Two whole hours?" She spat. She corrected her stance and recovered, but then there was a new imbalance which almost toppled her. She felt her fury and ohh, it was hot! She tried turning around to face her teacher again, but that was only made harder by the resistance of the water. "Really? You're going to ma-UAAHH!" She said as she particularly ungracefully fell. Biting on her teeth, she managed to get up again, eyes full with murderous rage, then she calmed a bit. "Fuck." Wet to the bone, she knew she wasn't going to last two hours.

"Ai, doesn't seem so easy now," Aiko said, not pouring any effort to hide her amusement upon seeing the genin getting worked up. "Remember the first, chakra control. You can't really master those techniques without proper control." Subtly manipulating the torrent of water to calm down slightly, Aiko decided to wait and see how the genin was going to respond - either giving up or soldiering onwards.

And she stood. The longer she stood, the more her concentration weakened, and the more times her feet slipped through the water. More hilarious was when she'd succeed at balancing one foot, but fall through with the other. The streaming of the water made sure that she slipped, and fell down spectacularly. Each time was accompagnied by a "Fuck!", "Oh my NGRRRR!" or even the unnerring "Fuck me sideways because I CANNOT FUCKING STAND.", which was … surprising. Oh well. She was from the city after all. Even though the weather had warmed up by now, she was still shivering, especially after a while. After her third time actually falling over, she continued sitting down.

Hideko sighed deeply. "I don't want to do this anymore." She said with her head down. "I know all this is about my chakra control, and that's very necessary in order to do techniques, but" And she splashed around with the water. "how is this helping? If I can do my techniques, how is helping me how to do them going to make me into a better shinobi? A fight's over in a flick of a second anyways, as you showed us..."

The entire duration, Aiko's clone would just observe and watch. There was some temptation to help or make the training easier for the genin. After all, she had little to no experience to back herself up or nail the training perfectly. Then again, Aiko also wanted to see how Hideko would react if she couldn't ace her way through. Once the genin gave up, Aiko felt a twing of pity. Letting the genin sit in the water, Aiko went to grab one of the towels before making her way back.
The water slowly started to calm down, as if the genin's splashing ruined the invisible force that spun it around. Walking towards the genin, Aiko reached out a hand to help Hideko get up.
"Here, lets get you all dried up before you'll catch a cold." Once the genin was out of the water and having a warm blanket around her, Aiko would answer to Hideko's question.
"Chakra control is a necessity to be able to have a better grip on your chakra. It makes difficult, and thus high ranked techniques, easier to master. Tedious as it is, it is sadly something we all went through. One faster than the other, I fear," the Cho said, flashing a smile.
"Aside from that, you are comparing the situation wrong. If we fight, things might be over in a flick of seconds. But you need to remind yourself that we aren't on the same page. Give it some time and training. Who knows?" Aiko winked before she spoke further. "Maybe you'll make those seconds into minutes after more training, eh?"

Now she looked at it from her side, yes, it did make sense. Dangit. Why couldn't she be the one making others see sense? She admitted that her outrage just now was caused by frustration, and she nestled deep in her towel to hide the fact that she was blushing. Woah there. She's only met her teacher for like, one day. Don't go crazy here now. "I suppooooooooooossssee so." She said, as if the entire thing was forgotten.

Amused by the reaction of Hideko, Aiko only smiled - holding by a scoff. Placing her hands on her hips, the woman waited a second before speaking up again. "How about we try to work on some earth release. Let us start with a technique that you know already. Perhaps the one that you showed before? The one where you encased yourself in dirt and rock?"

She sighed, again. Why did it have to be that move? She damned her former teacher to hell. But, that was probably why he did such a good job. Eh, Hideko rather liked him. Damnit. "Look, I can use that technique, but… I pretty much cannot use anything else." She said somewhat dejected, already sensing where this training was going. "All thanks to my chakra control." She added with a tone that could make an adult turn their heads. Regardless, she made the handsigns and performed the technique. No point in arguing whether or not she could do it when a certain someone had already decided that for her.

Frowning slightly, Aiko remained silent as she waited for Hideko to perform the technique. Once the genin was encased in dirt and rock, Aiko tilted her head slightly. "Huh, you got it all figured out heh? Aiming to put me out of a job? Well, I was going to help you with something I know. But if you already know what I got brewing in my mind, then go ahead. Astonish me, 'kid'."
Taking a step back, the woman crossed her arms as she awaited what Hideko would do next. After a second, Aiko spoke again.
"Come on, I would love to see you formulate a new technique as tactic from this one mastered ability. I can't wait to see a genin pull something out of their surprise pocket, jolly good."

Really? This was her teacher? Admittedly, she liked that in her, a sarcastic streak, but this was taking it too far. Or perhaps, too early in their 'budding friendship. She sighed and crossed her arms, making rock squeeze against rock. Hideko riled up at the sound, but it didn't change her demeanor. "Am I the person in our relationship to say that that's wrong, and that you should actually tell me what to do? Because… I mean seriously. What do you want me to do? I can't really find out for myself. That's why you're the teacher. Right?"

"Oh no, you are from being 'that person in our relationship', Hideko," Aiko responded as she gestured to the girl, encased in rock and dirt, "the simple fact is that you are given an instruction and respond with the melodramatic and I quote," sighing Aiko rolled her eyes as she proceeded, "All thanks to my chakra control."
Aiko placed her hands on her hips as she continued. Speaking with a slightly sterner tone, the woman continued to explain. "You already made the assumption without knowing what my objective is. I prefer to explain things in steps, so that you genin don't get overwhelmed or the gods forbid, try to skip steps cause chakra control assumptions or worse creeping up in your grey matter," pausing Aiko tilted her head to the left, "so what I want you to do is to listen, think and follow directions. It is that simple, sweetie. Okay?"

Letting a silence follow, Aiko raised a hand and pointed at the 'armour' that engulfed the girl. "Can you say that you have mastered that technique? If yes, then I would like to try to combine the concept of that technique with something you were taught at the Academy. The clone technique. If you don't follow where this may be going, I can demonstrate it."

Hideko rolled with her eyes, but chose to desist with her words. "Fine." She grudged. As if she did things ill-prepared! The nerve on this lady! If she didn't know the answer then she just did something else! "Yes. I know of the clone technique, duh. But no, I cannot perform that while staying in this shape. I'll just start being my normal me." She said. "But I suppose there's no way to improve until I do it? Fine. Let's get going then?" She loathed.

Aiko raised her hands slightly, bringing them together. Weaving through a sequence at a rapid speed she threw a look at their right. From the water, some motion started; shaping a copy of Aiko at a rapid pace.
"Your element is earth. I am not sure if you have heard or ever seen it but," Aiko started as she casually pointed at her copy, "elemental clones are a thing. It allows for interesting scenarios and tactics. One of those with water? Well, allow me to show it," Aiko crouched as she picked up a stone. Aiming, she threw it at the clone. The impact was apparently sufficient enough to cause the clone to lose cohesion, turning into water. Only to suddenly reform and quickly form a sphere.
"I hid a water prison technique in there. Imagine if the rock was an enemy that charged in, it would now be stuck and suffocating."

Turning to Hideko, Aiko nodded towards the genin. "Now, the deal is that I can't show it with Earth element. I haven't ever tried my hand at it. But imagine conjuring an earth clone and doing the same. The result? You could form a prison around them at high level. For now? Let us set the target that the earth clone will trap the target's weapon or limb, yeah?"

That raised an eyebrow from the genin, but nothing more. "You know, all that might be cool, but that doesn't make me understand it. I just ..." She said, and looked away. She pondered on how to put this mild, but couldn't find a way.

"... need to learn that. But every time I've tried, I've failed. Like, a lot." She said. "And it's not that I don't want to succeed, I really do, but…" She was silent for a while.

"Ergh. Best I can do is try." She said with a dejected tone. She formed the clone handsigns, prepared to do a clone jutsu from earth, and focussed very intensely. Perhaps this was the time it had to work? Three things happened. A vague-clone-ish looking thing appeared nearby, her earth armour started to crumble. Three things? I mean two. The clone started gaining in appearance until it was perfectly formed, about at the same time as her earth armour disappeared.

She took a gloomy look at herself and the clone, and said, without much ado: "Tadaa."

Waiting, Aiko just let the genin work it out on her own. She had her own reasons for pushing this one a bit more. Crossing her arms out front of her chest, Aiko facial expression turned neutral as Hideko made her attempt.
When the genin made the clone, Aiko's head cocked to the side as she eyed the conjuration of Hideko. It seemed flawless alike to the genin but the whole spirit that the genin had before was gone.

"Very good. I am not sure how much you know about tangible clones. They require more chakra to be formed and well, used both in and out of combat. Aside from being tangible, they will transfer knowledge when either destroyed or when they release themselves. It is an odd experience at first. Sometimes, if you are lucky, you get some chakra in return." The jounin explained as she focused her attention on the clone. "Aside from that? They work just the same as the illusionary clone technique, the one that you are taught at the Academy. How about you give it a swing? Try to make it do a few things, hm?"

"Oh but this clone-" She said, and waved through its head, "- isn't made of anything The clone reformed shimmered, and reformed as she gave a bit too much chakra to it.

Then she realised. "'Oh. Ohhh. I'm sorry, I'll make an earth clone!" She dismissed the clone and made an earth clone, with more effort. Soon there was standing an earth clone just like the former. Again, it seemed just fine, but for rapid movements, as with her Hiding in Rock Technique, you'd soon realise that it was in fact an earth clone and not a real person moving there.

The earth clone said hi, but raised her shoulders a bit.

"I'm just not very good at cloning myself, nevermind in rock. I suppose I could hide a technique in there, but that would take almost all of my concentration. But yeah, if I'm hidden, that's smart."

Frowning when Hideko began, Aiko wasn't sure what she felt more; amused at the misunderstanding or slight confused on how Hideko could have gotten that understanding. Deciding not to pour anymore attention or effort on it, Aiko nodded slowly. This time, she made sure to move forward and pat the clone's head.
"Good. And don't worry, hiding a technique in a clone is heavy work. Not many pour the effort into it at all, because it can go wrong in so many ways. However, earth clones have an inherent ability to act as traps."

Pausing for a moment, Aiko gestured to herself. "You likely heard or already know that each element can be 'poured' or used to make a clone, correct? Each with its own benefit or disadvantage. For example, lightning clones can combust and paralyse their victims. Earth clones? Well, they aren't hardened inside but imagine if I stab your clone now and you time it correctly? You can technically trap my arm or weapon with an earth clone. Thus creating an opening." Aiko further explained, deciding to give the genin some time to soak up the information or ask questions.

"Yes-" She began in a sarcastic tone, but stopped. Her favourite weapon, sarcasm, wasn't a tool in this fight. She took a breath, and started over. "Yes. But, that would require a large part of my … focus? Concentration? Eh, you get what I mean, right?" She finally said, stumbling over her words a bit, trying to sound as non-sarcastic as possible. It was the one of the first days, after all. "So, I could do that, but then I'm… not as … cool? No, ready? Hmmm..."

The woman frowned slightly upon the sarcastic tone but didn't respond in turn to it. What was confusing to Aiko was when Hideko began about not being as cool. An aspect that Aiko didn't consider to be important. It was that confusing that the jounin required a few seconds before she could mount a reply.
"I do, yeah. But with some training and diligence? You won't have much trouble with it in a combat situation as you would have now. Maybe you can then come up with all kind of nasty combinations. Perhaps some hidden explosive tags and make it into a shrapnel bomb, improvised but still. Sharp rubble flying at a high speed is still painful or deadly in some situations. Any questions left?"

"How can you put explosive tags in them if you aren't at the same location as your clone?" The question was out before she had time to stop herself, until she realised that was what she just asked. Huh. Nice!

Aiko just flashed a friendly smile as she decided to let a second of silence fill the conversation, before she spoke up. "It is okay. Anything else? Before I will instruct you to train and exercise with this technique a bit more. After that, I think we progressed enough for today."

"Hmm…" She thought audibly. "not really. No." She eventually said. She was more than excited to be trained by someone who didn't understand her element of earth. Gone were the days of 'and now like you mean it'. Perhaps she could even learn new techniques from Aiko-sensei, however mean she just sounded.

Well, that and getting a whole lot more wet, she admitted. Her tactics from that one fight were… interesting. Which is to say, she completely smashed them, even when working as a rag-tag-team.

[ For a while now, Mika has overseen the training of the jinchuriki. Under her care, they are starting to show some progression in becoming better shinobi. However, their location is compromised as a certain Crystal operative has figured their trail. Now it is time to answer who will win: One of Akino's Scholae or the combination of an elite jounin together with her pupil(s)? Found it out, next time on... ]

[ Part 1 ]

The days of training became weeks. Progress was something that came slowly and very painfully. Mika hadn't become softer on the two jinchuriki in their self exile from everyone else in the world. Only some days were the two jinchuriki given some reprieve as Mika went out to get supplies. But those runs for supplies were short as the three survived pretty much on what the surrounding nature had to offer them. Certainly wasn't something that could be compared to a five star restaurant or inn, it did start to help the jinchuriki on how to gain some skill in wilderness survival.
Today didn't seem that different, at all. Early in the morning, the jinchuriki had to wake up on their own; do their own chores before they were allowed to eat their breakfast - as Mika was very keen on discipline and seemed more than willing to enforce her rules.

Anything that seemed to really prosper was the small house that they had occupied. Nobody had ever attempted to get close but the constant work had allowed some normal living conditions to take shape. The extra luxuries as a carpet or something to do than to rest out or meditate was missing. But now? Nobody, at least, gained splinters from going against the walls or walking on the floor without their boots.
"I already send out a shadow clone with him," Mika's voice resonated from another room as she seemed to enter the house, "make sure your ready. Today, we are going to repeat what we attempted last week."

A soft hum resonated from Aya as she was finishing up the last part of her chores. Simple sweeping but it still reminded her of the time from Hiro's when she still resided there. Events sure took her down a weird spiral that was for sure. She would hear Mika's voice state they would resume what they were trying last week which made her sigh. She never thought fire clones would be that difficult… "Okay! I'm just finishing up the last of my chores. Be done in a couple minutes!"
She wondered if Taishiro knew that Mika kept sending him with the clone and not her. That and what the clone was even teaching him. Yet that wasn't her problem he still hasn't warmed up to her, and she didn't plan on getting close to him anyway.
She would finish up her sweeping and rejoin Mika with a smile."Okeydokey I'm ready."

"Good, let's go then," Mika said, gesturing to Aya to follow her. Leading the genin to the usual spot, Mika crossed her arms out front of her chest. Nodding to the various scorched spots in the grassfield, the jounin turned her gaze to Aya. "Well, time to give it…."

Mika's voice trailed off as her eyes narrowed. Throwing a look over her shoulder, a soft booming sound could be heard - the ripples of a shockwave going through the air.
"Aya," Mika said, her voice a tad softer than before, "Go back to the house. Get what you can carry and move into the woods. Now." The jounin ordered sternly as she seemed to vanish with the breeze.

Just as they arrived where the burn marks where, she was about to go through the steps when a soft boom was in the distance. Aya stared in confusion when Mika told her to go back to the house and get whatever she could carry and go to the woods. Confused but nodding, she booked it back to the house. "Okay fuck Taishiro's shit." Aya said to herself as she went into her room and grabbed her bag, which had basic survival equipment. She quickly went into Mika's room and took her bag and booked it out the door and into the woods. Two bags slung over her shoulder as she kept running ahead. She wasn't quite sure where to run too but Mika would probably find her. If not well, she was trained to survive off the land.

A few projectiles would soar quickly through the air, homing on the running genin as she exited the house. Interestingly enough, each projectile would just miss the genin by a mere inch before they impaled against the wood of the various trees nearby.
"No need to run," a voice spoke out with a polite tone. Coming into sight as she walked past a tree, a masked figure threw a sideways glance at Aya. "This doesn't need to resort to any violence, jinchuriki. Or was it Aya?" The masked figure asked, her gloved hands empty of any weapons.

Aya's eyes widened as she came to a halt and looked to her side to see what appeared to be crystal projectiles lodged into the wall. Yet the worrying part was they weren't far off from what could have been a hit. Then a voice spoke to her and a masked figure came into sight, calling her by name…..How did she know her name?
She looked at her before dropping both bags and dropping a smoke bomb on the ground and running away from her. She could feel her heartbeat incredibly fast, she couldn't fight her, that wouldn't even be a fight. She weaved a few handseals and made a clone to hopefully hinder her enough to get a distance away.

Just as Aya's clone tried to move away, something struck it - the widened eyes and her lips parting briefly before it showed a crystal spear having impaled her from behind.
"Flight? Interesting," the voice resonated, though it seemed much closer now than before. "Does this mean that you survived the Oda slaughter by running?" The voice asked, sounding a bit more playful as it posed the question to the running genin.

She could sense her clone poofing away, she wanted to keep running but this was an expert who had counters for what she could possibly do. Then she mentioned her clan's slaughter which caused her to bite her lip. "She's just trying to anger you… just trying to anger you." Aya thought to herself. Yet why did she know about her and her clan? Where could she run too though? Tricks weren't going to work and attacks from this distance would just be evaded.
Aya would sigh as she looked at the mysterious woman, before pulling out a kunai. If this woman wanted her dead that would have been an easy accomplishment by now. Which means that she wanted Saiken. "Survived by pity." Aya said as she held the Kunai to her throat. "Yet I won't let you have Saiken." She said but the fact was her hand was trembling and obviously so. It was one to talk big but to pull that trigger… Her mind simply wouldn't let her.

The masked figure once more came into sight, calmly walking from one tree. As Aya held the kunai against her throat, the masked figure cocked her head to the right. "Hm, that would make things problematic, wouldn't it? Though you are correct," the figure stated, shrugging lightly, "I just am send here to retrieve Saiken. After all, you and your sensei are registered as missing-nin. I suppose she didn't tell you that you were supposed to return to Kirigakure? Everything is fine now," the figure said, placing her hands behind her back. "But if you feel so brave to take your life, go ahead. I can extract the beast during your dying breath. It may not be a pretty sight but I can work with that. Or, alternative route," the figure raised her right hand and extended it towards Aya. "You live and come with me. I don't see why you should die when we can clear this out, back in Kirigakure."

She was what? Her mind wasn't registering what this woman was saying, her hand stopped shaking as it was trying to process that. She was registered and so was Mika? Mika was a war hero though, why would they do that? "You are lying, stop lying to me." Aya growled through her teeth, but indeed she couldn't make her hand do it. Gripping the kunai she would in a fit of anger throw it at the woman, but it hit way off to mark to the side.
Aya simply shook her head at the woman. As Aya shakingly grabbed her sword and unsheathed it. "Guess you just have to kill me then. I trust my sensei more than I trust you right now. If I am a missing nin, then show me proof."

There wasn't any verbal response to make Aya stop from the masked figure. Instead, one of the gloved hands moved to the pockets and produced a small scroll. Holding it up, the figure threw it towards Aya - making it land in front of the genin.
"Official mission to capture you and the others. My team is now occupied with bringing in the other jinchuriki and your sensei," the woman calmly stated, "but if you want to die fighting, I can grant you that wish. It will be painful, so are you sure that your loyalty to your supposed sensei is more worth than logic?"

She looked at the scroll on the ground and listened to the woman before shaking her head again. "Occupy my ass, That explosion earlier doesn't seem like occupying to me." Aya muttered before taking a deep breath. She put one hand behind her and reached into her bag. Yet instead of throwing anything, she simply put one of her explosive tags in the back of her shirt.
"When she's all I got left. Then yes. Fuck logic." Aya said as she charged the masked woman. Aya already braced herself for what was probably going to be a lot of pain.

The figure didn't seem to move away as Aya charged her. "A pity, you indeed are," the woman said, her voice suddenly ice-cold as her gloved hands flexed before moving into position. Extending one hand towards Aya, it seemed as if the woman didn't care for Aya's sword - only wanting to grab the genin by the throat.

Aya skidded to a halt as the hand just reached out towards her. It caused her to reach into her bag and toss a kunai at her. Before charging in again, swiping at whatever reached out toward her first.

The sudden throw with the close range made it hard to dodge at the last second but instead of the steel tip of the kunai tearing through flesh; it simply bounced against the surface of the woman's clothing.
"Genin, indeed," the masked woman said, a hint of sarcasm, as the blade seemed caught within the strong grasp of the woman. Pulling Aya closer, the other hand of the woman shot forwards in a clear attempt to grab the genin.

Her kunai bounced off her? But how was that even possible? She didn't look armored. When her grip caught her blade it only further confused her. The grip was like she embedded her sword in rock. When the other hand reached toward her, she let go of her sword and made a seal and what took her place was the first kunai she threw from earlier. Now further away and closer to the tree line, she booked it right away into the woods.
It did pain her mentally to leave behind her clan's sword but it wouldn't matter much if she died using it.

Glancing at the caught sword, the masked woman threw a glance at where she detected something. "|Trying to be clever, hm?" Dropping the sword on the ground, the masked woman would start to give chase.
As she ran and started to slowly catch up, the gloved hands started to flash through a sequence of handseals. The more open area was perfect for the next technique to trap and encase the fleeing jinchuriki.
Holding the last seal, the woman planted her feet - causing her to skid to a halt. But as a reaction, the ground rumbled and suddenly turned; a large mudslide being conjured and moving in fast upon Aya.

Was the fucking ground shaking now? She peered behind her and sure enough it was. She vaguely remember Kiro telling stories about something similar to this. Which always ended with his enemy usually dying….. great.
She weaved handseals as she ran but then stopped and turned. She would make a seal again and her sword traded placed with her as Aya looked at the woman and inhaled and then let out a wide spread fire attack. She could only hope this burned the woman alive or else it was on to plan B

Already wanting to encase the mud into crystal, the masked woman heard something behind her. Throwing a look over her shoulder, her eyes widened upon seeing the imminent rage of fire upon her. Turning half around, the fire engulfed her - a short scream of pain escaping Aya's technique, that scorched everything in its path.

However, suddenly, something shot out of the ground and encased Aya's left foot - trapping her to the current spot.
"You would have caught me in a bad spot," the voice calmly resonated from the raging fire that Aya had created. Stepping more into sight, it seemed that the flames didn't even bother the masked woman. "If I had been a genin as well, you would have burned me to a crisp." Gesturing subtly to the crystal that held the genin in place, the woman continued.
"Now, I will offer you once more to surrender yourself to the Republic and allow us to clear out what is going on here."

[ Takayana | Empire of Akino, Uchiha heartlands. ]
[ Hirasuke Uchiha | The Right Hand of Shozo Uchiha. ]

Raising his cup, Hirasuke closed his eyes. The steam, originating from the warm liquid inside the cup, was most welcome in the cold but pleasant morning. Carefully, to not burn his lips, Hirasuke decided to take a sip.
Opening his eyes slowly and half, he was content. The rich flavour in the tea was truly invigorating.
The sight that Hirasuke could behold was one of beauty and order. The gardens present within the city of Takayana indeed had a calming effect on the soul. Not that every soul was just allowed to see the noble gardens reserved for the direct descendants of Yoshimitsu Uchiha. And those who given such prestigious privileges or trust.
Many etiquettes were bound to these gardens as they led to the Lord of Uchiha's actual residence. Build on an elevation; your social ranking and appreciation were tied to specific places within the garden. A commoner or servant that was to bring something would be halted at the gate, of course. Someone invited of poor upbringing would be honoured by receiving an invitation to meet at the lily pond. A position that provided a view on the higher elevations but not accessible. Someone of higher upbringing could count on receiving a meeting on places that provided a look downwards - in a way, honouring their social class and individual value. The highest honours to be allowed near the prestigious mansion of the Lord Uchiha himself. But the beauty wasn't all to it. The garden was nothing more than a network of security and chances to eavesdrop on influential people. The servants that toiled to keep the garden in its beauty were nothing less dangerous than the visible guards, all part of the same elite unit that was the best of the best of the Uchiha military. Nameless as they were, these people being the essence of loyalty and competence.

Seated on a silk pillow, Hirasuke thought about what this day would bring. The sun was slowly rising on the horizon, shedding light on the glorious city of Takayana and her people. And he was situated where he could look down upon them. A position from where his words would mean the difference between prosperity and peace. Or misery and conflict.
It had weighed on his shoulders before, but he became aware of what route his lord and mentor were taking. A path that had seemed like a dream years ago, only a soon to be a reality in a few years.
His hands enjoyed the warmth radiated by the cup of tea, providing a soothing sensation. But yet his mind refused to relax, only fixated on the gruesome matters that he would decide today.
Lowering his head slightly, he took a glance into the dark surface of his beverage. The poor reflection of himself made him question more if he was fit to deliver the words. To make the decisions that his master and lord had entrusted upon him.

"The shadows are at your command," a masculine voice whispered, seemingly out of nowhere. It didn't break the tranquillity at all.
Hirasuke was aware of who he was speaking with or rather: what. For this individual officially had no name any longer. This person was one of the Crimson Shadows, as people called them, with a modicum of fear, respect and disgust.
"The Lord desires many great things for his people," Hirasuke began, lifting his head and turning his gaze back to Takayana. He didn't pour any effort to sate his curiosity of finding the source of who spoke to him. He would miserably fail and make an utter fool out of himself. "He desires that the truth is uncovered from the lands of the Tokugawa. That we may learn who truly harmed the Senju. Certainly seeing that the Senju turned our aid away," Hirasuke whispered back.

It remained silent. And Hirasuke wasn't sure what to feel or do now. He had no experience with the Crimson Shadows. They only answered the leader of the clan and his family. Though, granted, usually this position was granted to the wife of the lord; allowing the lord to focus on his other duties and responsibilities. To be granted to command them? That was a privilege that not even the most influential families within the clan had enjoyed in their history.
But the voice didn't question Hirasuke. It didn't question his origin. It listened before it replied.
"We may come to bloodshed. Does the Lord desire this?"

Hirasuke thought about it. Did Shozo truly desire his people to bleed? To see others suffer? He knew the answer in his heart already.
"His Grace doesn't desire anyone to suffer. But we must bear this for peace and prosperity. Go forth and do not hesitate. Your Lord entrusts you with this important task."
Waiting patiently, Hirasuke didn't detect any sound. A soft breeze passed him and yet; Hirasuke couldn't see nor hear anything that was out of place.
Raising his cup to his lips, he carefully took another sip. The liquid was pleasantly warm but not enough to burn his lips. Taking a larger sip than before, Hirasuke softly exhaled.
He was content.

[ Rini moved from her place and potentially jeopardized her mission because she recognised Sho. The reunion between the two is far from friendly and old feelings are thrown into the room. With all consequence for both involved. ]

"The fuck are you doing here, you dumb short fuck."

Together with the sensation of something sharp in her side, the familiar voice made Rini come to a halt. She had the right answer but didn't retort yet. Her priority was to scan who was more at the ready to jump at her. So far, it was nobody that seemed to give a damn about her and the likely person that had ambushed her.
"I was curious what a lowlife would do here. It seems you have truly sunk to a new depth." Rini whispered back, her left hand wanting to move slow downwards - to pull out a kunai.

His grip on her tightened as he started to move - guiding her to the visible staircase. "Uhu and you seem most eager to follow filth. Now shut up and follow, you idiot."
Moving towards the staircase, Sho's mind was racing. He tried to move them as if nothing was bothersome was going on. Already he thought of the impact if 'she' found out. Moreso, the presence of a member of the Imperial military? In this kind of establishment? Sho was confident what the men would do, regardless if Rini looked like some minor with an arrogant expression plastered on her face.
Both moved forward on the staircase, moving to a hallway. A large man passed them, barely offering a glance at the two teens as they seemed to hold each other close.

"I bet you like this, huh," Rini hissed as they seemed alone. Spotting an open door, she rammed an elbow into Sho's side before placing her hands on the wall. The chuunin delivered a firm kick in a fluid motion, causing Sho to stumble and struggle with keeping his balance.
Turning around, Rini narrowed her eyes before she charged into the room. Slamming her weight against Sho, both fell on the ground.
"Scumbag!" Rini hissed as she raised a fist, about to slam it down on Sho's face.

Sho caught the fist in his hand. In a rapid response, his other hand grabbed and shoved Rini away. His head was slightly light, but nothing that prevented Sho from fighting back. His gaze fixated on Rini, he spat at her before attempting to deliver a hook from the left.

A sting of pain moved down her cheek as Sho's fist hit its mark. Stumbling backwards, Rini closed her right eye as she raised her hands. She blocked the next punch, and in a reaction, Rini pushed Sho back. Only to attempt to deliver another firm kick.

Grunting as Rini fought fiercer back than he had anticipated, Sho was too late to catch her leg. Her kick caused him to sink on a knee, a curse word escaping his lips. Before he could raise a hand, Rini slammed a fist against his temple.
A soft thud resonated through the room as he fell to the ground. Blinking rapidly as the pain spread through his head, he heard something familiar.

Rini pulled out a kunai. The sharp steel glistened in the dim light briefly as the girl lifted the weapon. Falling on top of Sho, her free hand struggled to get a hold as he started to resist.
Before Rini could fulfil the strike, she felt how Sho managed to wrap an arm around her and flung her sideways - his strength prevailing over hers.

Moving over her, Sho pinned Rini down with grabbing her wrists and using his weight. Both were breathing heavily as their gazes met. The anger in her eyes made him feel frustrated and angry.
"You fucking moron, what? Going to just stab and then ask questions?!" He sneered right at her face, feeling her struggle underneath his grip. Sho decided to raise the hand in which she held on to the kunai, only to slam it several times on the floor.

Flinching as she felt the pain, Rini tried to hold on to the kunai. Only to feel it slip finally from her fingers. Closing her eyes for a second, she would focus herself, just to slam her forehead against Sho's - as hard as she could.
The pain that followed caused her to cringe physically, tears starting to form and roll over her cheeks.
"Fuck yes, you trash. Getting stabbed is what you deserve..."
Trying to get up slowly, Rini tried to reach out for the kunai. Only to freeze.

"Tsk tsk, not so fast.~"

Before Rini could respond, something slammed against her temple - causing her to slump down on the ground, her world overtaken by darkness.

"What a mess, don't you agree?~"

The voice of Yoru made Sho's blood cold as he quickly looked up. The woman had seemingly materialized out of nowhere and now knocked out Rini. Getting up, he felt ever more than before that he needed to be cautious.
"Fucking brat. I think we can leave her somewhere--" he began, only to see Yoru shake her hooded covered head.

"Too late, my dear. She has now seen too much. Can know too much. I could clean her up but what if," pulling out a knife, the mysterious woman turned more towards Sho. The hilt of the weapon aimed at Sho, "what if you do it?~"

[ Fujihoro, city within the Honey country | Vassal of the Republic ]
[ Neime Hayashi | Chuunin of Team 19 ]
[ Start, set, go! ]

Walking down the street, Neime considered the plan. It wasn't difficult to grasp what they should do. But there was a difference in a plan being not difficult or relying on genin. Then again, Neime reminded herself, these two genins had proven their worth before. Deciding not to doubt them, Neime focused on her part.
The streets of Fujihoro were odd. They seemed so different but yet the same as Kirigakure. But they were indeed not like home, nothing like Kosa. It only dawned now on Neime how alone she was. A Hayashi far from her kin and without any of their support.
Her stomach turned, and briefly, she felt vulnerable. The only two that she could rely on were two genin. People that she barely knew aside from what they had experienced so far.
Silently, Neime vowed that she wasn't going to perish on the eastern continent. She refused to die - but promised to experience once more of its festivals, to enjoy her clan's culture and feel the pride of being a Hayashi.

Confidence flowed into her stride as she kept walking. Lifting her chin slightly, Neime focused back on her task. She would lead this team through this odd hell and back. And just as she made her vows in silence, she noticed something strange.
Throwing a look sideways, she saw a man garbed in a brown hood staring at her. When their eyes met, the hooded man started to move. His body betraying that he had a purpose. Neime's gut tensed up and mentally telling her to be ready for a fight.
But today, she wouldn't fight.

Focusing on walking further Neime thought of the market. Today was a busy day for those attempting to sell wares. As a port city, Fujihoro wasn't an ordinary city. The stands displaying exotic wares on stands, and merchants praised them in the hope to pique bypassers interests and earn some 'honest' coin.
The crowd that attended the market was large in numbers. Women, children and men alike participated in it. Some seemed already confident on what they would buy, probably regulars that didn't have the time or wealth to spend on luxuries. Others? There were plenty that seemed to take their time, enjoying the market's rather pleasant and open atmosphere.

Neime's eyes narrowed upon sighting another hooded figure in the crowd. Two, no three. Spotting another individual who seemed to follow her, Neime was certain; some people seemed hellbent to capture or prevent her team from achieving their objectives.
The instinct to draw a weapon and make her stand was significant; it was she had been trained for. Facing adversaries in combat was something she preferred to run away from. The mere idea to flee from them hurt her pride.
Her hands moved to the hood that was part of her cloak. Pulling the hood over her head Neime inhaled and exhaled softly. Then she started to pick up the pace.

The mere second that her pace became faster, the hooded individuals also picked up the speed. Various shocked and upset sounds escaped different people as Neime's pursuers tried to close in the distance.
Dodging people and fluently keeping up a fast pace wasn't an easy feat; Neime bumped into some people several times. Her heart skipped some beats now and then as she tried to move away.
Moving as fast as she could, Neime reckoned that it was best to pull these individuals from the market as far as she could. This way, it meant three hostile individuals away from her and the genin.

Eventually, Neime started to move away from the market. In the crowd's chaos and bustle, the chuunin, however, pulled an effective but old trick: escaping her pursuer's attention, she would conjure a clone.
The clone continued to mislead and keep the three hooded figures on the chase. Now free, Neime decided to see if she could perhaps aid one of her genin.

[ Zakito and Kiyomi have a meeting, discussing some matters - such as the situation on the eastern continent and the war effort. Eventually, the two discuss a suggestion made by Zakito for a new Imperial institution - one that might not be appreciated by all Akinian clans though. ]

"The supply routes are established and protected well," he read calmly, his right eye moving his gaze across the content at the parchment. "Currently, the 11th Imperial Brigade is relocating, at the Major General's command, Hiron Hon. It seems that a large Rongese force opposes the centre of the front."
Zakito briefly looked up as some of the Sworn Swords were occupied with moving the small pieces into their respective places. The fact was that the report was weeks old. It took a long time before a written report from the front could find its way to the capital. Even with the dedication of the 9th Imperial Brigade, they dutifully kept to their tasks.
"I suppose by now, the Second Major General will have a strategy in mind on how to combat his opposition. In the south, the 13th Imperial Brigade is cooperating with the Republican army. From what we know, the southern flank of the front is the most violent. Mostly skirmishes and blood operations have taken place. Yet, it seems that neither the Republic nor the Second Major General has seen a reason to reinforce it."

He paused, glancing at the painted table and the moving pieces. It seemed that the war wasn't going bad. But it was far too early to state if they needed to pull out or push forwards.
"I did receive some more clans that desire to make a name out in the east, fighting for your glory and that of the Empire," Zakito stated as he rolled up the parchment. His calm tone didn't betray his thoughts on the matter. "I will have a small list arranged, provided with my advice if that would please your Majesty."

Kiyomi sat still as her hair was being braided. Her attention was on the board. Pieces that resembled hundreds, if not thousands, of people and animals; all are serving in the name of the Empire of Akino. It was something that she never got fully used to; a simple wooden piece resembling that was alive. Though she entirely trusted Zakito and his experience, there were a few matters that she wasn't pleased with.
"What of the Guardians that got deployed? What is their current location, according to the latest report?" Kiyomi asked, her gaze lifted from the table to her confidante. "And of the contingent of Tiger Claws? I assume correctly that there is no bad news regarding them?"

Zakito gestured subtly to the pieces that resembled the 11th Imperial Brigade, which had a few more 'friendly' pieces nearby. "There is not to worry, your Majesty. The captain-commander of the Guardians is currently with the 11th Imperial Brigade. Assisting in the matters to tackle the opposition before they can venture further into the region called Sevudia. The Tiger Claws? I remember that they were serving alongside the 12th Imperial Brigade, directly underneath the command of the Second Major General, Hiron himself."
Zakito slightly frowned as he folded his hands together. "Does her Majesty have any specific desires? Perhaps to recall the Guardians or the contingent of Tiger Claws? It will be some time before it will be relayed to the forces on the front, but all you have is to state your desires."

Kiyomi pursed her lips. The desire was great to give in. To order that, Hayate and Saki's units should be withdrawn from the fighting. Her mind was already making various 'reasons why. Such as that they had been already involved in multiple daring and risky operations. That both Saki as Hayate's units had suffered enough losses and couldn't be quickly replenished as the more regular military units due to their unique companies.
But Kiyomi was aware that Zakito was testing her out. In a quite similar way to how Hisoka or Meisa would; by providing an easy and pleasant option but one that would prove that she was selfish. It annoyed her greatly, but Kiyomi knew that it wasn't to bully her. At least, she hoped so.
"No, I was just curious," Kiyomi stated as her attention shifted back to the board. There were multiple issues ongoing.

"What about the Imperial navy? What is the status on the task that I gave to the Lord Admiral and his staff?" Kiyomi decided to ask, her gaze moving back to Zakito.

It took Zakito a few seconds before he could recall what he had learned last of the Lord Admiral and his staff's efforts. "The last reports are positive, your Majesty. The main focus is to assemble enough sailors and marines instead of acquiring material to fuel the shipwrights to build more ships. The ships acquired from the Northern civil war have certainly improved morale and given them enough to work with."
Pausing, Zakito threw a glance at the painted table - wondering briefly if the Imperial navy would become a fierce competitor for the southern waters. A fact that could mean that they would butt heads with the Republican as the Sayyadian navy. Both had more ships and maritime traditions than the Royal navy of Akino.
"If you desire, I can have a messenger reach their headquarters within three weeks to relay your desire for them to be summoned at the capital."

Aside from the efforts at Amthyr, Kiyomi was most curious about the developments of the Royal Navy. She had taken a liking to the old Miyazato admiral and his staff. Wanting to nod, she felt the subtle pull of the servant that was busy braiding her hair. Slightly annoyed, Kiyomi decided to speak up.
"Yes, please, I would be most intrigued to learn more about their current efforts. And how quickly they can set sail to conduct the plan to meet up with that southern state. The name escapes me, but you know which one I speak of, anyway."
Thinking about something, Kiyomi decided to return a question at Zakito.
"You did state that you had something you desired to bring up. But you haven't started yet what. May I now request to learn what it is, Lord Hon?" Kiyomi decided to keep it formal, with the number of present people.

Zakito made a slight bow with his head as he gestured to one of his servants to make a note; that the Lord Admiral would be contacted. The question that Kiyomi posed made Zakito ponder on how he would formulate his request.
"I desire to make a suggestion, your Majesty. I am most glad to see the Empire taking a severe interest in knowledge and valuing intellect as necessary. As such, I would like to establish an Imperial institution in Magnhild. An institution that will house and educate the young heirs of the Imperial clans. Allowing them to be educated appropriately in an Akinian fashion. Some may see it as a safety net, you holding the heirs of important clans hostage. But if you provide the funding, I can ensure that they will be treated and educated in all the necessary matters an heir of any clan should be."

Frowning, Kiyomi thought about the suggestion. It was a most interesting suggestion. Most clans would be upset about it, for it wasn't something small to see their heirs be located in a fortress-city, held by another clan.
"And why exactly Magnhild, Lord Hon? I hope you can understand that there will be plenty of clans that are going to be most hesitant with you harbouring so many heirs in one location."

The facial expression of Zakito subtly shifted. Despite the mask that covered the lower half of his face, it was relatively easy to see the man flash a smile. "I reckon most will be hesitant or wary towards the very idea, your Majesty. But you have been raised and been in Magnhild yourself. It's a large and important site within the Empire. The heirs can enjoy my protection as the facilities provide them with what is required for such an institution. And if the need arises, they can be within a short time in Konohagakure. No other significant clan capital can provide that currently." Zakito said, not afraid to show his confidence in his plan.
"Of course, people that will be recruited to work and serve this institution shall not be underneath my command or that of my clan. It will be an Imperial endeavour. Just one supported by her loyal clan, the Hon."

Intrigued by the idea, she couldn't say that she disliked it. The concept of having the heirs of clans gathered together, tutored and raised together was something that fit in her idea of an Akinian society. However, she already could guess which clans would be against it. Or would prefer a different location than Magnhild.
"You have my blessing, Lord Hon. Establish this constitution and see to it that it is properly done. Once it is done, I will alert the clans. I hope it won't lead to a disappointment, Lord Hon."

Zakito made another subtle nod with his head. "Of course, your Majesty. Now, if that were all, I would like to return to my duties to see your wishes be executed."

Kiyomi made a subtle gesture that the man could take his leave. Watching Zakito rise up and make a respectful bow, Kiyomi's lips parted suddenly.
"Lord Hon, I just recalled. The Hyuzu arrived in Konohagakure, didn't they? I was informed that before I could send them an invitation, that your people already awaited them and brought them to the Hon compound."
Bringing a silence before she posed her question, Kiyomi slightly tilted her head - now that her servant finished with the braid.
"May I inquire why you brought them to the Hon compound?"

Zakito halted, and half turned, his gaze shifting to the young Empress. Her question made him visibly ponder. "Ah, yes, Lord Hyuzu's arrival. I desired to ensure that he and his entourage could rest without anyone else approaching him. I fear that it isn't certain yet who is behind the murders and attempts to kidnap Hyuzu smiths." Turning fully towards Kiyomi, Zakito continued. "If your Majesty desire, I won't hesitate to inform Lord Hyuzu that your excellence expects him."

Leaning back in her seat, Kiyomi considered something. But then she shook her head lightly. "No, it is fine. My curiosity is sated. But do bear to Lord Hyuzu that I will be awaiting him and hope to see him soon, in good health. Have a good and productive day, Lord Hon."
