It was not Yukimi's first time being aboard a ship, her father had taken her out on one of the few he owned when she was much younger. However, this was most certainly the first time that she actually had to do work aboard a ship herself. As much as the girl wanted to complain about it, she knew that would only make her seem more and more like the rich, spoiled brat that she was certain most had started to see her as. Previously, the Yuki wouldn't have particularly cared how most had seen her, considering them beneath herself. Yet due to recent events, she found herself starting to care how they thought of her more and more. As she had actually bothered to really speak with her teammate and some of her servants back home. Learning that they weren't all that different from herself, just had a much rougher life than she. That all being considered, it still didn't mean that she particularly enjoyed having to all these chores on the damn ship. Yet everybody had to pull their own weight, and she wasn't going to go and treat this like something beneath her. That would only serve to create unneeded tension aboard the ship. That, and... Nishi was sort of intimidating. The Yuki very much did not want to find out what would happen if she angered the captain, and by extension Nishi.

Then one day, the regular routine she had started to settle into changed as they ship came in to dock at their destination. Before they could be called to do yet more work, Nishi summoned the team to her. An act that Yukimi was silently thankful for, as it meant she didn't have to go help out with all the jobs that came with docking the boat. Not long after, they were on their way through the town to some destination or another. Approaching a fort, Yukimi had a sneaking suspicion that they had reached their destination. It soon enough became clear this was the town's garrison, as the girl looked around and was rather easily able to pick up on the obvious signs of such. She had seen the inside of one or two garrisons throughout her life, all due to her position as Kunoichi, but she had a good eye for detail. Because of that she was able to find all of the telltale signs of the garrison rather easily. She wondered if they would be staying here long, or if it was a temporary stop until they had some new sort of mission come down the line for them. Not long after, Nishi led them through a building that turned out to be a large mess hall and then continued on through the long halls until they came before a door that Nishi would unlock and signal for them to enter. Evidently this was where they would be staying.

Making her way inside, Yukimi became immediately aware of the fact that the room was utterly devoid of... anything really. Just three bunk beds, a chair, and a small closet. One that wouldn't even be big enough just to fit all the shoes she had at home, much less her entire wardrobe. Though she supposed that was the way most in the military lived. This made Yukimi a bit happy that she hadn't packed half a million things, something she had done on account of being worried that Nishi would toss most of it out saying she didn't need it. The woman struck Yukimi as more than willing to do something like that. Moving quietly into the room, Yukimi went to the furthest bed from the door and dropped her bag on the bottom bunk. There was no particular reason for choosing this bunk, the girl had just kind of decided it would work well enough. Even if she missed the much larger bed that she had at home. Opening her bag for just a moment, Yukimi produced a small notebook with a couple of pencils held in a small fabric holder on the front. She quietly set that down on the bunk, hidden just behind her bag as she sat on the bunk and looked towards the others while their new teammate asked her question.

Towards Okino!
[ Lightning Country - Southeast coast | The '18th' Imperial Brigade ]
[ A collab between @FrostedCaramel and @Lesli ]
[ Suzu heads back to the encampment of the Yakimara force. Brushing into the commander's tent, during a meeting, she conveys what she has learned about the Lightning's fleet in Okino. This leads to some tension and a decision from Caderyn. ]

Suzu trudged her way through the Vetei camp, passing between the long rows of tents illuminated by the torches placed out randomly along the path. Turning a corner she came upon on of the larger tents and quickly made her way for its guarded entrance.

"Stop." one of the two guards stated as he took a step forward to the figure looming from the darkness, as Suzu failed to comply he placed a hand on his sword and tried again "Stop there!" he yelled as the second guard began to draw his sword. The first guard realized who it was as she entered the next area of torchlight and and pointed angrily at the Sworn Sword.

"You're supposed to be confined to your te—"

Suzu placed a solid palm blow to the center of the guards chest and sent him sprawling as he sputtered for air before fluidly turning to the second guard as he went to pull his weapon completely. Another thud rang out as she placed the guard on the floor before throwing open the tent flaps and moving into the well lit command tent.

The meeting that had been going on around a table and a map came to a halt as she walked directly up to the table. In silence she studied the map before pointing at the small mark that was the port city of Okino.

"Captain, the Lightning Fleet is moored in Okino, currently a neutral player in this civil war as far as anyone could tell me. The Empress demands supplies for ships as compensation for this expedition on behalf of the Lightning." she raised an eyebrow and smirked, "I don't see the difference in simply taking ships instead."

It remained silent. Caderyn seemed slightly amused as he watched the Sworn Sword just stride in. In a way, the older man could appreciate the brusque manner on how she detailed this piece of information. A lieutenant was about to sneer, his lips parting, but before his breath could be turned into words, Caderyn raised his hand. A subtle gesture for his lieutenants and captains to shut up.

"There is a difference, Sworn Sword," the commander said in a calm tone, that seemed to subtly hold a threat in an odd fashion, "the Empress demanded that we would gather supplies. If we go back with ships, how do you propose that we proceed from there?" The man frowned as he didn't wait for her answer. "Unless we are to load the ships with the supplies meant for the Empire. Then I doubt there will be much harm to it." A ghost of a smile dawned on the man's lips as he glanced at the map.

"But they are a neutral party, commander Caderyn,"
one of the lieutenants said, pointing at the marker on the map. "How do we even convince them to just open their city and allow us to take their fleet?"

Suzu didn't understand the difference and didn't care to dwell on it. Ships were just built from the supplies they wanted, if they skipped the building by taking ships then it was a win for the Empire. "It's exactly the fact that they're neutral that we can leverage." Suzu said as she nodded to the Lieutenant, "Currently they have no protection from either the Raikage or Regency, both of which have significant armies at their disposal that could easily overwhelm the Jun Clan if they really want to get those ships back."

She pointed to the Imperial banner hanging at the back of the tent, "But if they approach walls flying the Imperial banner? I imagine they'd think twice about starting a second Great War over a paltry fleet of ships." with a smirk she turned to Caderyn, "We offer the defenders of Okino protection, a guarantee to remain neutral as far as were concerned. In exchange we take the ships. As for the supplies? I don't give a single fuck if your Yakimara continue to claim everything they come across and send it back on ships or on the backs of prisoners. Just get us those damn ships Captain."

Silence once more flowed into the tent. Then a barrage of noise erupted. Some of the lieutenants actually sided with Suzu, stating that they could reap a larger reward together with perhaps being granted gifts from the Imperial crown. A larger part stated that Okino was too far away and started to question the source of information, calling it unreliable and stating that Caderyn should dismiss it.

A loud thud resonated through the tent as a sharp steel tip bore itself into wood. Removing his grip on the knife, Caderyn shot a glare at everybody present. "We will split a detachment from the mounted force." Stating some names of present officers, Caderyn would continue. "I will venture to this city and proceed to negotiate. In the meanwhile," Caderyn looked at the respective men as he called them by their name. "You shall venture the route that we discussed. The Alaricus clan is aware that we are coming and we got some promise of neutrality with them. It is about damn time that we know more where everything is in this god damn shithole."

Shortly, Caderyn dismissed his lieutenants and officers to set the change of plans into action. As the men left, Caderyn would lock his gaze on the Sworn Sword. "You stay for a moment, Sworn Sword," the commander ordered with a cold tone.
While Caderyn waited for the tent to grow empty, as well ignoring the curious and content looks of his men who heard his last sentence.

"Next time, you won't disturb me in a meeting. I don't care if it is the Empress her shit that you find here. I am in the one who is in charge." The cold tone persisted as Caderyn frowned, clearly not afraid of the more dangerous woman in the room. "You shall, however," the man continued as he looked back at the map and speaking with a more neutral tone, "accompany me and others to this city. I like your plan. Perhaps it will get me out of this freezing cesspit of a nation."

A small ghost of a smile grew on Suzu's lips as the room erupted into chaos over what the warband course of action would be before it was completely silenced by the Captain. His planned laid out and his men assigned the tent was cleared as Suzu stayed behind.

The words of Caderyn struck Suzu as odd and a flash of anger welled in her, "You tread dangerously close to treason Yakimara." she spoke low as she watched the man's moves, "I will certainly accompany you to ensure you have the Empresses orders in mind." she confirmed before continuing, "Perhaps it will see you gone indeed."

The commander looked up from his maps. The blank expression revealing no hint of fear or remorse of his previous words. "You may see things how you desire, Sword. But do yourself a favour and waste no breath on either loyalty or treason. I will see to it that her Majesty gets what she requested. Preferably, without getting this whole unit being picked off cause you heard an interesting tale from a fisherman's wife."

Waving at her, like she was some annoying child, he spoke again. "Now, please head back to your tent and ready yourself. Without harassing any of my men. I doubt that the Empress would like to hear that one of her 'Swords' can't control herself."

Suzu didn't move as she waited for the Captain to finish his small speech, the threat of rattling on her to the Empress falling to the wayside of her thoughts as quickly as it had come, "As you deem fit Captain." she said before turning to leave the tent. Opening the flap she would shoulder check the closest of the two guards from earlier as she passed and disappeared into the night.

Operation Safeguard
[ Republic of Water | The city of Shigaa - one of the cities barracks| At the eastern part of the Republic ]
[ Nishi Hirashima | Jounin of Team 11 ]

Watching how the girls settled down, Nishi was content that none of them had so far uttered an objection or demand for a higher quality of luxuries. If anything, she had expected Yukimi to have spoken up ages ago. But the Yuki seemed to actually present herself as Nishi expected of a chuunin: to not act like an entitled brat and follow orders.
The genin were another curious matter but Nishi had no complaints, so far, regarding either Claire or Hikari.
Glancing at Hikari as the genin stated a question, Nishi remained silent for a second.

"Our role is to be part of the Junyo's crew. We are still functioning as marines. Though there is a chance that we are going to be involved in some affairs in this city," Nishi explained in return. The jounin then moved her gaze to Claire. "Even though I am a jounin, I don't have any idea how long we will be gone from Kirigakure. It might be a week or two. It can very well be a station that can last for a year or even longer. Essentially, until we receive new orders, I don't know."

Deciding to lay down, Nishi placed her hands at the back of her head. "For now, I wouldn't worry about that. If anything, we are going to be busy soon. I bet as soon as the Junyo has received supplies and the necessary maintenance, we will be out again." Closing her eyes, Nishi was more than content with the current situation. Realising something, the woman half-opened her right eye. From her spot, she could cast a subtle glance at the corner where Yukimi had vanished. Seeing only the bag, Nishi decided not to fret on what the Yuki was up to.

"For now, take it easy. I will soon take us to the mess hall and from there, we can perhaps take a look around the barracks."

After an hour of rest, Nishi had decided it would be best to stretch their legs. Not to mention making sure that the girls knew the place they were staying. Though Nishi assumed that Yukimi would recognise or know some matters, due to her chuunin rank, Nishi didn't take it for granted. And certainly not with the genin.
As a result, Nishi would point out several matters. Such as where they could find some facilities that would come in handy, such as where they could shower or relieve themselves. How to find the mess hall and with the additional warnings to not get in anybody's way. The jounin even added an example of how bad it could end if any of them would get into trouble - as pity or gentle approaches were far from common.

Concluding the 'tour' inside the barracks they resided in, Nishi opted to take the team outside. Three small distinct fields were utilized by the troops and officers to perform drills and training. One of the three was currently in use by another shinobi team that practised some team training.

The armoury as some other facilities were pointed out as Nishi gave them an explanation on some rules. Even as she doubted that any of them would be needed to make use of it. In the end, an hour or two had passed and Nishi decided it was enough. While they hadn't really exited the fortified area to explore the city, Nishi saw no need. The sun was about to reach the horizon and she didn't think it was a smart idea to wander around in Shigaa, in the dark. After a simple supper - some soup that tasted quite bland with some fresh bread, the team would be ushed by Nishi to move back to the room. Tomorrow was going to be an early day.

The next day, Nishi would wake the team up early. Gentle rays of light managed to pierce the small window, heralding the dawn of a new day. Together with waking her team, Nishi seemed to have brought them some gear. The typical flak jacket and uniform for Yukimi while both Claire and Hikari had to be content to wear the uniform without the flak jacket. Instructing her team to get ready within two minutes, Nishi was clearly keeping count of the time. Once the team was done, Nishi did a small inspection at their gear. Even with their best intention and effort, the jounin was quick to point out several small mistakes.

"That means you girls owe me extra warming up," the jounin stated with a neutral smile.
Leading the team towards one of the exit of the barracks, they would be greeted with two of the training fields already being occupied. Two groups were doing drills under the stern leadership of their officer.
Nishi's pupils would find themselves being lead to the third field. Several dummies with bullseyes were set up at one side of the field with some crates. Instead of explaining what the purpose of the training was, Nishi would bring two fingers to her mouth and unleash a sharp whistle at her team.

"Fifteen laps on the double," Nishi ordered, the tone stern enough to imply that she wasn't going to make it easy on them.
Watching the team perform the laps, they were not given any time to find either their breath or a respite. Already Nishi pointed at the dummies. Each of them had three dummies and the jounin had made three lines at some distance - at roughly twenty meters.
"Kunai and shuriken practice. Go go go," Nishi instructed, "if you don't hurry up all of you will perform fifteen laps again! On the double, now!"

Practice Time!

[ Republic of the Water Country | The City of Shigaa ]
[ Hikari Torimoto | Genin of Team 11 ]

After Nishi provided an answer to her and Claire's questions, Hikari nodded. They were, effectively, still a part of the crew. That made things simpler to understand, at least to her. Moving her bag to the floor, she laid on on the bed, allowing herself to rest. An hour passed, before the team moved out of the room, with the jounin showing them where everything was, along with giving even further warnings regarding the place they were in. Once they were done with the barracks and mess hall, Hirashima-sensei showed them the outside of the place.

The outside of the barracks felt just as intense as the inside facilities for Hikari. More rules were given to follow, along with more facilities shown, before the jounin decided they needed to head back and rest before tomorrow, as it would be an early rise in the morning. It did make the genin wonder what was planned for them for the following day, but she figured that whatever it was, she would take it head on. After an incredibly simple and bland dinner, and with her mind set, she went to sleep in a relatively peaceful manner.

Waking up was easy, but getting arranged in two minutes like Nishi wanted was certainly rough. The uniform that she had received from the jounin felt like an exciting moment, but she didn't have any second to spare for the excitement. Getting arranged as fast and to the best of her abilities, she went to be judged by Hirashima-sensei. She was found with a few small mistakes, which did disappoint her, but she tried to make sure to remember those mistakes. She slightly wished Nishi would write them down, but she doubted she could request such a thing without sounding spoiled in some manner.

After they were led to the training fields that they had seen the previous day, they went to the only one that was free, before Nishi gave off a strong whistle and the instruction to run 15 laps. For a moment she was caught off guard by the sudden instruction, before beginning to jog, working on maintaining a proper breath. But, at some point, she started to feel her muscles at her legs. Hikari pushed on, trying to ignore the feeling until she managed to finish the fifteen laps. Without letting a second pass, Nishi already moved to give the next instruction.

Looking at the dummies, Hikari tried standing still the best she could. It was rough with her legs starting to feel a bit sore, but it wasn't going to stop her. Taking several shuriken out of her pouch, she moved one to her right hand before throwing it. And it missed. Second one in her left hand. Missed. Third one in her right, which also missed. Fourth in her left. It hit the arm of the dummy. Fifth one in her right. scratched the lower body of the dummy. The next few ones also missed, before Hikari briefly moved to place her hands on her legs. Biting her lower lip, she took a few deep breaths before taking out a few kunai. They weighed slightly more than the shuriken and handled different, but seeing Hirashima-sensei said it was a kunai and shuriken practice, it only felt appropriate to alternate between the both. She would then begin throwing the kunai, alternating her hands just as before.

Training Time
Claire Rose
Team 11 Genin
Shigaa, Training Grounds

The first night in Shigaa was slow as Nishi showed her team around to important facilities they would use. Claire laid in bed for awhile not able to sleep. Could she really be gone for a year? Was it likely? Eventually she was able to fall asleep but was woken up when their Sensei for trainning. Getting ready she followed the jounin and her team to the field. Doing her given laps she felt a bit winded but was used to a fair bit of laps as she practiced more on her own. Taking her spot in front of some of the dummies she nodded as she looked at Nishi. Luckily she had some training in tools. Concentrating on the dummies ahead she reached into her tools pouch and began to aim.

The first two flew through the air hitting the first dummy in the side and shoulder. Her hands began to move a bit faster reaching down and flying out. A mix of kunai and shuriken were sent out, a few missing the dummies but most hitting the objects. Taking the opportunity to practice a few of her techniques one would notice the dummies also had bits of paper in them from her paper shuriken jutsu. Of course she was not told to use these specific forms but she felt they would go along with the exercise. A few of the shuriken she manipulated making them go past before coming back into the dummy, sticking in the wood on the back. Glancing over at Nishi she wondered if the woman would scold her for using paper and the manipulation technique.

Yuyuko's Training
[ The Republic | Kirigakure, the capital - Training Fields ]
[ A collab between @Sakayanagi Selko and @Gerontis | Yuyuko is being trained by Karuko. Once more Karuko isn't afraid to push one of his pupils to their limit. And much like Shion, Yuyuko learns why constantly pushing yourself is far from ideal. ]

It was relatively quiet in the training fields. Reckoning that it could be the increasing cold, Karuko did wonder for a moment about something. Deciding to check something out later, he opted to continue waiting for the arrival of Yuyuko. If anything had shown, he was most curious to some of the girl's motives. And to either replace them or eradicate them. That made the man think about how the previous jounin had attempted. Seeing that brute force hadn't done the job, Karuko thought of another solution. A more subtle one.

As if on cue, he would see the figure of Yuyuko moving her head side to side as though she was humming to herself with her infernal mask on but yet her movements seemed to suggest she seemed to have no problems with the mask on. To the girl, she generally was here to train and to her, any chance to train was always good as she seemed to adjust her katana on her side before soon giving a wave to Karuko indicating she had noticed him.

Staring at the genin, Karuko made no attempt to already discourage the girl from wearing the mask. Instead, he waited until she was close. Then he made a small nod, the only gesture that seemed to acknowledge her presence.

"You are on time. Good," the man started. Crossing his arms out front of his chest, Karuko continued. "First thing, why the bloody blazes are you wearing that?" The jounin asked, a frown appearing on his face.

Yuyuko let out a small ehhh as she heard the question indicating surprise but it was not an ehh that the question was never asked indicating she might have prepared a reason to explain it, whatever it was. "Oh this thing?" She said tapping the mask. "Well, one looks nice and scary, right? That makes it cool and two...well..it is so I can get stronger faster by allowing me to be constantly training like how Father…..i mean instructor Masakage suggests to his students to use a wooden bamboo in place of a bokken or like how some taijutsu users wear 20kg weights on their hands and legs while they go about their daily life." The genin said with a voice that indicated she was by all accounts telling the truth or at the very least believed it soo much that it might as well be true to her even though the claim by itself is completely outrageous as Kukiko may have mentioned to Karuko.

Listening to the genin, Karuko didn't interrupt the genin. While he could understand the end, the means were far from perfect. "Your ambition is one I can get behind. Trying to place a condition on yourself to improve yourself is not too strange. But what you're doing right now?" The jounin gestured to the mask briefly, "That isn't improving yourself. Impairing your sights doesn't improve them. Nor does it help to enhance your other senses. In fact, I do hope you realise how much of a hinderance you are if we would be attacked right now. Half your vision is currently blocked and any well-placed shot will take you down."

Briefly, Karuko remembered his own experiences. If there was a way on how he could elaborate it to the genin other than with just his words, he would.
"I mean no disrespect to your old man but we are going to cut out with this crap. I served during the Great War and managed to survive until now. If you want to get stronger by conditioning yourself? Fine with me. But we will do it in a way that you won't be a hinderance and causing me to lose half the team. Or worse? Get another reminder on why I hardly trust any of you greenies. Got that?"

Upon hearing Karuko's statement, it caused Yuyuko to blink slightly as she heard that. "Uhhh ok...but how am I to train constantly? Ok I mean it might take a long time...probably but I am sure it would be ok once I learn some long-range elemental jutsu. And the idea of wearing a mask was my idea, I mean sure father was sort of against it but he came around since logically speaking, if one has to train himself to hold a weapon, then it would mean that with half of one's sight gone, that person would be forced to adapt and eventually become stronger despite the disability, I heard some even became stronger because of their injuries hence this way I can learn that way and have the benefit of removing those limitations to give me an edge in a fight. And since we are not at war, there might not be a better way to get stronger faster...and if that does not happen, I cannot let mom retire from this dangerous life for a more peaceful life here. If another tailed beast shows up, she might get killed and so the only way to convince her is to become so strong I can support father and mother alone." She said partially letting her thoughts loose as she stopped to let her sensei reply as her mind continued to think of ways to reason her idea was sound in logic and could work.

The jounin once more listened to the genin. Though he had already an answer at the question at the ready, the mere moment that Yuyuko brought it up, he patiently waited as the genin continued.

"Training constantly is a way to get yourself killed. Not to get yourself stronger. Without rest, you don't have the energy to push yourself to another limit. Hell, train like this and you will be outpaced by the likes of your team members. Besides, there is no real shortcut if you want to get stronger, kid. It requires dedication and motivation, for sure. But also time to rest and build-up for the next push."

Frowning, Karuko grew a bit disgusted, which he did hide from his tone. "And not at war? Are you sure about that? Why are we currently cooperating with the Empire and the Lightning to pacify the Wolf country? If anything, I am certain more will be mobilised to that zone or else the Honey country, to guard that Republican vassal." The man introduced a pause before he continues. "In short, you are making yourself progress slower. And are literally turning blind by just focusing only on trying to get stronger. Techniques, masks and what not? Forget about that. What you need is a training regime that works and can be executed."

It was at that moment that Yuyuko let out am ehhh that unlike the first one that truly showed how much inexperience she had coming in and how her mind while probably smarter than the average genin, had an either really narrow-minded idea on how things were going on or had mismanaged how her training plan.
"If anything, everyone i knew from my father's students and other countrymen that we were not even at war. And hehe... I guess I just thought of rest was just an inefficient use of time which could be used for training?"
She said, her voice trying to ease the gravity of the situation but also becoming noticeably more monotone as though her mask, not her literal mask but the facade she put on seemed to be slipping as Karuko might glimpse the perhaps naive little girl Yuyuko was who used her love for her mother as a drive and yet used her intelligence, flawed as it was to try and increase the results as much as possible, and brushing off any side effects that came with it as just 'part of the job' even if it meant the poor girl was effectively working herself to death.

"That is cause they either don't want to know or haven't seen the signs." Karuko stated as if it was an easy matter of fact to learn these days. It just reminded him how weak the country had grown due to the mismanagement ever since the Suzu had lost the war. Genin that were foolish, people that didn't realise that a conflict was brewing and he was stationed in a post where he couldn't make a difference.

"If you think rest is so inefficient, you should skip sleeping. Might teach you how to appreciate a good rest." Karuko said, the phrasing hinting towards some amusement but his tone remaining neutral. "In any case, I will try what I can as want to train you. It is up to you to realise what you're doing is going to make you a hindrance than an advantage to the team. But I strongly recommend another way, that has been proven than whatever you're doing now."
Letting those words sink in, Karuko would step aside so that he could gesture to the field in front of them. It was just a plain field without any instruments or tools to use for training.
"Today, we can do some starting training. Much like I trained Shion, I can try to see what I can pass on. The question is though, what you want to be trained in."

As Yuyuko slowly begun to let the words of Karuko sink in as the genin begun to see his point of view at least somewhat as she removed her mask. A sign that indicated she at least could be reasoned with or at least that she was in the end still normal after all as she replied
"umm. On that regard….. I think I need to learn my elemental nature as up until now, I haven't gotten much more than my stone flicking and my kenjutsu. While I do like to rely on pebble flicking, an elemental jutsu is more suited for a distance fight while pebble flicking is by all accounts a way to create an opening so that the enemy can be cut down... I guess?"
The genin said showing she at least knew the limitations of what she had but at the same time was working with whatever she had at the time.

"I would drop the pebbles. They won't be that effective." Karuko stated, "After all, you can create openings in a way that won't hamper your own chances to attack when spotting an opening." Thinking, Karuko decided to not explain that chakra natures were really essential. While they were most useful, he knew of shinobi who were most lethal in their operations without the usage of elemental ninjutsu.
"I am not sure if you are familiar with the use. But I got a small sheet of chakra paper as I couldn't find a note about your chakra element affinity. Good thing that I am a jounin," Karuko continued as he produced a small sheet of paper from a pouch, "its not that common. Seeing that chakra paper doesn't really have a large use. Just try to pour some chakra into it. And then we will get the results."

Yuyuko blinked as she put the mask in the pouch on her side as she looked at the paper with a good amount of interest.
"Well, pebbles are more or less a hobby of mine and father did teach it to me in passing as a way to deal with foes like how he did….but that was probably only good for Samurai on horseback back in his day...hehe….but yes, I have heard of the paper. For chakra element affinity...i guess i just never went to look for it as I had thought my kenjutsu and pebble flicking was enough at the time?" She said tilting her head to the side ever so slightly as she gently reached for the paper and begun to do as the Jonin instructed pouring chakra into it.

A soft sound heralded a few seconds of silence. Staring at the paper, Karuko then nodded as he understood what it meant. The paper was wrinkled as a result from Yuyuko inserting her chakra into the paper. "Seems you got the elemental affinity for lightning." The jounin explained, gesturing to the wrinkled paper. "I got a piece of basic knowledge about the lightning release. But in time, you will need to get some help from other folk once you're ready for the advanced stuff."

Letting that information sink in, Karuko decided to shoot a question at the genin. "Is it what you expected?"

Yuyuko blinked as she looked and thought hard about the question. "I am not sure...in my opinion, I had expected water due to living in the republic….but I think it is an unexpected boon as I have heard stories of powerful Lightning release users and...heheh...i guess you can say i did had a selfish wish to want to use it. It just seems so fast yet deadly and precise...that is to say, i am not putting down the other elements, but i just i guess i had to phrase it, to me this element besides wind if one is hit by it, 4 out of 5 times, the target dies, i guess? Since one can survive fire by jumping into water etc, but for lightning...it is like umm….whether you live or die depends on whether it is your time to go or not?"

"That is a common mistake. Regions and where people live have nothing to do with their chakra affinity." Karuko stated as his eyebrows briefly furrowed. "As for lightning. It can be fast and precise. But that is often the end result of one's mastery over it." Deciding to continue on, Karuko would move his hands together.

"The base elements of fire, wind, earth, water and lightning have their affiliated handsigns. Each base element has two handsigns. That of lightning is dog and monkey." Despite the jounin assuming that the genin was aware of the signs, he still performed them to showcase which ones he was talking about. "We will not start with already going down a technique. You have no experience or understanding of lightning release. So we will begin from the start." Pausing, he would form one of the two handsigns. "Hold either the dog or monkey handsigns and mould your chakra. No, there won't be any sparks or electricity going about. But what you need to do is to slowly mould it and let it be shaped into lightning. At best, you will get a sensation of the chakra being different. Just calmly continue and don't get spooked by it."

Yuyuko nodded as she heard the explanation as she breathed in trying to sense her chakra and did the Dog hand seal focusing her chakra as she sensed the change in her chakra. Something akin to a tingly sensation like feeling static electricity flowing through her yet it felt living...like a heartbeat as she looked up to Karuko. "Ahh, i feel it, i feel it...well something at least."
However as she said those words, her concentration broke as she felt her chakra beginning to become unstable as she tries to establish the chakra and get a feel for it, just like the other jutsu she learnt at the academy, the sign of this misstep though being kind of obvious on her face.

"Good. Just focus on that feeling and try to build it up." He told her, deciding to add a warning. "Be careful to not build up too much chakra. If you lose focus then, well. Then you might learn how it feels for your chakra to violently lash out inside your body. And you don't want that. Might damage your body to the point that you won't be able to mould chakra if the damage is too severe." Was his warning, though spoken with a certain calm tone - as he continued to watch over the genin's attempt. Knowing fully well that familiarizing one with an element wasn't easy. Even an affinity could bring up all kinds of trouble.

Yuyuko nodded as she does her best to at least try to build up the feeling as much as she can as her jonin could sense that she was trying to build up the chakra as quickly as possible, a definite indicator that she really wanted to see results asap but then again, internally with how she remembered that Shion was already using water release, she felt the need to make leaps and bounds to get to Karuko's level as soon as possible.
"I think i got it, at least partially..." the genin says as he could sense her chakra having a considerable amount and was being moulded...however he might also notice she may have jumped the gun as while she tries to make it seems as though she was in control, her face seemed to be sweating and she seemed to be trying to resist the urge to twitch.
"Just a bit longer.." the genin said as her hands shivering slightly as she struggled to keep the chakra under control.

Frowning, Karuko said nothing. In fact, he decided wouldn't persuade Yuyuko to stop. "Really? I thought you could do it better. Shame, maybe I did expect too much from you." Karuko said, his tone feigned perfect disappointment as he was aware that he was pushing Yuyuko like how he had managed with Shion.
"If you want to stop here, that is fine with me. I can bear with average genin." Karuko said, shrugging slightly as he poured a bit more on to pegg Yuyuko.

If there was something Yuyuko was,it can be said trying to find what made her tick was as hard as finding a needle in a haystack. However, it seemed that this time, either Karuko had figured out the mystery that is Yuyuko or somehow said a lucky phrase as his response set her off.
"Maybe you should have expected less. But sadly i am not in the mood to settle for average today"
The genin shot back with a snide remark as she suddenly tried to force every ounce of chakra she could muster, damn the consequences. However as she did that, her chakra begun to run rampant as she tries to keep herself in focus while still trying to go even further despite the pain she felt until her expression changed for a moment before the genin's world went black before she collapsed onto the ground, her body twitching occasionally from the leftover residue of lightning chakra left but whether there was damage to her was unknown.

"Oh? The kitten has some claws?" Karuko spoke, his amusement clear as Yuyuko gave her snide remark. Watching how the genin would put herself through more and collapse, Karuko would nod for a second.
"Mhm. Too easy," he muttered as he would kneel. Moulding some chakra in his hand, he was aware of how he could prevent her chakra to harming her system. Once done, Karuko snorted as he was rather amused at the situation. Though he didn't mind some gut, both Yuyuko and Shion had too much of it.
Picking the genin up and hoisting her over his shoulder, the jounin would whistle a tune that originated from during the Great War, as he would carry her off to the hospital for a quick check.

Its hunting season?! - Part 2
The Empire of Akino | Sarutobi Heartlands, the city of Ardara - the city's fortress | Ardara's perimeter | A collab between @conman2163 , @Jason Targaryen , @timv999 and @Lesli |

| Summary :
While the Allthing continues on, Aiko manages to arrange a small operation. One that will, hopefully, see to it that some of her students get some more experience. The operation is fairly simple: they need to find and take down seven targets. The entire reasons for it aren't given by Aiko. The operation is led by Orun Hyuzu as the jounin leader takes a role as observer. | Part 1 |

Tireo turned one sapphire eye onto Tomiko, studying her carefully as the girl stuttered and rambled her way through an introduction. He considered the thing for a moment, and then blew a puff of smoke from his nostrils. The introduction that came over the mental link was one of fire and vigour, but was accompanied by the undertone of a creature wise beyond the years it had lived. Orun studied the dragon for a moment. The keen interest it had taken in the girl was curious, most humans were "dull two-legged creatures" according to Tireo, but here he was studying this one closely. In any case, the interruption from Aiko prompted Orun to ask the dragon to go ahead and get started on his recon ahead. The creature curled up like a tiger to pounce, and then with a powerful thrust of it's legs, and a few strong beats of the wing, it was skyborne, gaining altitude with each downward push. He nodded to the other two. "Right, mount your horses, and let's go." Without a second word he turned back to the horse he had saddled early in the morning, walked over, and swung himself into the saddle. Then he pulled the hood of the cloak he wore about his face. He would wait a few moments for the others to saddle up, and without another word he would set off towards the North.

Tomiko was a bit caught off-guard by the dragon's introduction, then the way Tireo seemed to study her for a bit longer. The girl fretting that she had somehow upset him, said something wrong. As strange as it sounded, Tomiko rather wanted the dragon to like her. It would be super interesting since Tiero was clearly capable of communication to be able to sit down and talk with the dragon. She didn't know what they were like beyond the stories that a young girl had read to pass the time, so the chance to learn exactly what the real ones were like was an amazing chance for her. However, now would not be the time as soon enough Tiero was taking off, something that also left the girl gazing in wonder that something so big could fly. Not long afterwards, they were ordered to mount their horses and go. Tomiko moved towards a smaller horse, which was just about the biggest horse somebody of her size was capable of riding, and climbed into the saddle. She pulled up her half-mask as they started to ride off, following after Orun.

Mounting her own horse while the introductions between Orun's dragon, Neji and Tomiko happened, Aiko would spur her mount to follow Orun. Keeping a position at the back, she would keep watch of where everybody was located - save it for the dragon, which took off into the sky. The surrounding lands weren't yet populated by the local farmers and other denizens of the rural grounds that surrounded Ardara. With in the distance, the treeline being visible, Aiko wondered briefly on how Orun would continue this operation. On paper and in thought, there was little that could go wrong. Practice and experience in the field, however, warned her to not take it too easy with taking in a more observant role in the operation.
The ride towards the treeline wasn't likely taking them more than half a hour with a good pace. The path still continued and allowed them to ride without much discomfort. And as soon as they entered the woods, there was barely any sign of civilization that they could fall back on.

Several times, they had to stop and ask some questions to people that they came across. The usual folk that work and lived around these woods were distant and wary of strangers but luckily Orun seemed to be capable of communicating with them. Even if there was a distinct difference in how the Hyuzu spoke and phrased Chonobi, the locals seemed less tense and distant. A few pointers were given and forced the group to travel from the road, starting to come across a few tracks. Tracks that betrayed that they were from some adult men.

Orun held up the horses at a signal on the road, then dismounted. The woods were thick, and though mentally Orun could sense the dragon overhead, he could feel the frustration leaking through the mental link they shared. Orun, with a practiced eye, studied the tracks. It was certainly a group of adult men, and though some of the tracks traced over one another, there were at least five in the group, but possibly more. Not to mention that the tracks were relatively fresh, the live branches on some broken tree limbs still leaking their sap, so they were no more then maybe thirty minutes behind them. It was curious to Orun that they were not more careful, but either way, knowing they were close was helpful. He would turn to the rest. "We can't be too far behind them. Stick close and follow me." He would then swing himself back in the saddle, and set off at a trot.

As they all stopped and Orun dismounted, the Hyuuga looked over from her horse to study the tracks. They looked human enough, but seeing as she wasn't overly trained in tracking people down she wasn't sure if there was any other kind of information one could gain. Even with that, it took her about until the time Orun was having them saddle back up and head out to really spot most of the tracks. Something that she felt was a little bit embarrassing. Then having her horse set off at a trot, the girl hoped that they would find these guys soon enough. She didn't much envy the idea of a prolonged mission to track these people down. At least, she figured, their tracks were still visible so they hopefully weren't the most experienced of foes.

Staying mounted on the horse, Aiko watched how Orun took charge. For a moment, Aiko's attention turned to Tomiko and Neji. Both seemed to be acceptive of the leadership, so far. No questioning or disagreements were aired, luckily.
When Orun stated that their targets couldn't be too far, Aiko was wondering what the Hyuzu had in mind for an approach. Letting the genin ride behind Orun, Aiko would linger a bit behind in the formation.

"Since we'll be upon them soon, here is the plan of attack." Orun pulled back on the reigns of his horse to make the distance between the group shorter. "Tireo can't come in close with this tree cover obviously, so we'll be operating on our own. Don't use any jutsu that might start a fire or hurt another member of the team. Otherwise you are free to use any abilities at your own discretion. I don't need to remind you that we are to kill them, but don't drag out their deaths. Quick and clean is the key here. You two will take to the trees and drop from above, I will stay on the ground on the approach. If any break off, Tireo and I will follow them, you are to stay behind and deal with any left alive." It was times like this that Orun wished he knew more discrete jutsu. "Any questions?"

The girl stayed silent as she watched Orun while he explained what they were tasked to do. Unfortunately for her, most of her techniques did revolve around her lightning release. Such techniques certainly stood a chance to light a fire. When he asked if they had any questions, the Hyuuga quickly spoke up. "Would it be better if I stayed in the trees? I'll have a better view and different angles I could get them with my bow." She asked, figuring that wasting the extra time to drop down from the trees wasn't the most efficient when it came to just… killing their enemy. Instead she could stay in the trees and put arrows into their enemies, also being able to provide support to another member should they need it.

Still at the back of the 'formation', Aiko took some mental notes. Briefly, the woman glanced up to see if she could spot the dragon through the canopy of the trees. Failing to do so, she would place her attention back at Orun and the others. With some of them having a technique that could potentially cause a fire to go on, Aiko already released a mental sigh. Good thing she would be more than capable to put any fires out, if they would occur.

Orun raised an eyebrow at the question by the Hyuuga. Stay in the trees? Could she draw the bow enough to achieve a powerful enough shot in a tree? He shrugged. "If you believe that you can provide enough support in a tree, I suppose it could be useful, but enter the melee once you are unable to get a clear shot. Other then that, the plan remains the same." Orun would turn back to the route ahead.

It would be a bit longer before they would come upon very fresh tracks, and at these signs, Orun realized that they were certainly not far behind the group they were hunting. He would signal the other two to take to the trees. He trusted that they would be good enough at climbing to keep up. Next he would spur his horse onwards, communicating with Tireo in the last hope that perhaps he would be able to see their quarry. Unfortunately, no such luck was had. Orun chose to abandon his horse and continue on foot at this point. He felt that he would have an easier time maneuvering this way. He left the three horses tethered to a tree before continuing onward.

Orun came upon them as they were resting, though it seemed a very brief rest, and drew his sword. He hugged a tree and watched carefully, his form concealed by both shadow and the mottled green cloak he wore. There were seven, and they seemed to possess a number of weapons, but none was longer than a shortsword. Two of them carried maces, one carried a dagger, two others held swords, and the last two had axes. The whole lot stood uneasily in a small group, all seemed tense, but all caught their breath. It seemed that they had been running for some time. Orun cursed that he had not brought his armor with him though, the suit would have been perfect for a melee such as this. As it were, he would have to rely on his swordplay and jutsu to protect him. Still, it would be fine, he felt. At a handsign, a clone appeared beside Orun, which he sent around the clearing. He hadn't told them to wait on the attack, but hopefully the shinobi above him would have enough sense not to attack just yet. It took a few brief moments for the clone to work his way around the clearing, but once he did, they were set, both Orun's planted the sword in the ground beside themselves and then weaved a series of hand seals, Boar, Dog, Ram, in a second, the party would get started.

She knew she could make shots while hidden in the trees, as she had done so before on a couple of occasions. So when Orun gave her permission to do exactly that, she nodded as a way of simple response. She hoped that she wouldn't really need to drop down into the melee, as that was very far from being her strong suite. Still, if she couldn't make a shot then she would have to do exactly that. When she and Neji were ordered to take to the trees, Tomiko nodded before ensuring that Orun had control of her horse as she didn't want it to run off. Then taking to the trees, Tomiko channeled a small amount of her chakra to her feet and scaled the tree easily, and more importantly silently. Moving quickly from branch to branch of the trees, Tomiko was able to keep up while maintaining the silence from before. She was not going to be responsible for alerting the enemies to their presence, at least she hoped she wouldn't be the one.

When Orun stopped, Tomiko halted her own movement as she crouched low on a branch high above the Hyuzu's head. Slowly she drew her bow, but not an arrow at the moment. Instead she would wait until he seemed to be moving more towards an attack before drawing her own arrow. Moving silently around the outside of the group, it only took the girl about two trees to reach a vantage point she liked. From here, she could see the entire group while staying mostly concealed within the leaves. Drawing an arrow, she drew back and took aim towards one of the men holding an axe. As Orun weaved his handsigns, Tomiko drew back then released her arrow so it would find purchase in her target's skull nearly at the same time that the Hyuzu launched his technique. Immediately after firing, Tomiko already had another arrow drawn and searching for her next target.

As Orun performed his jutsu, the ground would shift and move in front of him, water would spray out at a high pressure as a new body of water was formed from the earth, widening and deepening until it was wide enough to count as a small but deceptively deep pond. Still the Hyuzu continued to deepen the pool further, burning up chakra to insure that the men would have no purchase on the ground, and be even easier to kill The swirling pressure knocked the men of balance, even as one of their number was killed by an arrow from the trees above. As the Hyuzu continued to feed chakra into the technique, he drew two kunai and tossed them, and the clone followed suite. Another two men were killed by this. Tomiko would probably have an easy time taking the rest of them out. Meanwhile, Orun would continue attacking with kunai.

Another arrow whizzed from the trees mere moments after the Hyuzu launched his attack, slamming into the other man with the axe's chest. He wouldn't be long before dropping to the ground from the arrow buried deep in his body, his face still surprised from seeing his ally so suddenly sprouting an arrow from his head and dying, promptly followed by being hit himself. She quickly readjusted her aim, firing two arrows in rapid fire into a man opposite her tree, one of them bearing a mace. The first hit his arm before the second found purchase in his chest. The girl remained focused on the task at hand as she quickly trained her aim on the other mace wielder, intending to take him out while the rest of the team dispatched the remaining two of the group who seemed to be off balanced from Orun's attack.

The last three were slaughtered in quick succession like their fellows. Kunai and arrows sticking out from various points. The attack had been quick enough that they hadn't even been able to fight back. Quick and clean. Orun would cease the flow of chakra into his technique and then got to the edge of the water pool, which was now a deep crimson from the flow of blood. Concentrating chakra in his feet, he would walk along the surface of the water and slit the throat of each of the corpses before dragging them to land. Extra insurance that they were dead. When they had disposed of the bodies with bomb tags, they would return to Aiko and remount the horses.

Rallying
[ The Empire of Akino | Near the port-city of Aegir, Cho-Clan Heartlands | Team 8 ]

Shortly after the conclussion of their mission, Team 8 would set off towards the south. With the end of the Allthing and the remains of the 3rd Imperial division mobilizing the team would travel fast, as feasibly possible, to link up with the 11th Brigade. Upon arriving, things would soon become much different than many within Team 8 were used to. As Aiko's duties became involved with the management and leading the brigade the others would soon find themselves being assigned to a squad.

Due to Orun's current rank, he would be given the rank of sergeant with its responsibilities. While Neji and Tomiko would be pressed into the unit under the stern command of captain Eòin Cho. The captain and his lieutenant soon enough made it clear that this new situation wouldn't be made easy for the members of Team 8. Orun, Tomiko and Neji all alike would be trained and drilled alongside others.
The trainings seemed to be largely focused on instilling discipline and physical growth. Though the goals were clear and should benefit Orun and the others, they would find little luxurious within the encampement. Even the food seemed to be solely focused on making them less attuned to luxurious - lacking fine taste or texture.
Soon enough the hardship would be accompanied with training into martial expertise. How to handle a bladed weapon for example, whereas some members gained more specialised training.

Tomiko Hyuuga, for example, would enjoy some specialised scouting training. Despite her height making her unfit to perform in an unit, she would still be pressed into the scouts. Tracking and manners of subterfuge would be taught as other vital tasks that were entrusted to scouts. Yet, her time wouldn't be easy with the subtle bullying by others within the unit - likely due to her clear origin.
Orun Hyzu would be taught on how to function as a sergeant. While not having any formal leadership within the unit, he would be pressed by Eion's lieutenants to perform his duties well. From learning how to keep his fellow squadmates to remain in line as how to discipline them, in case they would go out of line.
Neji Uchiha faced a harsh time. Even with the majority unaware of his heritage as an Uchiha, his accent would be easy to pick out. Much like with Tomiko, Neji started to face some distant and negative treatment. It remained, however, mild as Neji's hard work would create a small modicum of respect.

The Return of the 'King'?
[The Empire of Akino | Near the port-city of Aegir, Cho-Clan Heartlands ]
[ A collab between @Oblivion666 and @Lesli | Kazumo returns from his journey to the oracle known as 'The Voice of Bergjlot'. Arriving into the encampment in which Aiko and a part of the 11th Brigade reside, he informs her about what he has experienced and learned. The two then briefly touch on what Kazumo's position will be in the 11th Brigade. ]

Sitting in the chair, Aiko pondered on what she just had heard. Her gaze seemed to be fixated at the only entrance and exit of the large tent, the flaps that attempted to hold back some of the cold, alongside the thick material that blocked or muffled most sounds of the camp outside. But a soft breeze did manage to slip past, only to be forced back by the brazier that was the source of comfortable warmth within the spacious tent.

"Keep the Wolf close and find the Snake. Shed the blood of the Lamb. And accept the Raven." Aiko mumbled, just audible enough for Kazumo, the only other present within the confines of the tent. Judging by the subtle change in Aiko's features, it became clear that she seemed to struggle to decipher the words of the Voice of Bergjlot.
"Rather confusing. I think I can understand some of it but there are parts in it that I don't understand. Then again," Aiko's gaze moved to shoot a wary look at Kazumo, "words of oracles are dangerous. More than most weapons, I even wager. But, at least, we got something to work with."

Becoming silent for another second, Aiko nodded slowly. "Let us start with the Raven. I believe it stands for the Sarutobi, unless we might find another purpose for the Raven. I wanted to wait before I assigned you to any unit but I was considering to make you become part of the Gwade Rangers. I doubt I need to explain to you anything about those folk."

His journey back had been safe and the journey to the camp where they would be staying until they were sent off to the easy was also fine. It was here that he was able to tell Aiko all that happened when meeting the voice, even though she had some trouble trying to figure out the riddle, it did provide him with some comfort that she was willing to help. She also explained that she was considering to make him part of the Gwade Rangers, which he nodded that she didnt need to explain them to her.

"I thought as much too, yet it has so many implications with accept the Raven. I feel it does have ties with the Sarutobi, but what does she mean by accept it? I already planned on accepting them, so I doubt its something as easy as that." Kazumo responded with as accepting the Raven did indeed have many meanings. Like their could be a Sarutobi that does something good or maybe bad but he has to accept them anyway. Hell it could even be as simple as accepting a raven.

"Honestly the easiest part of this riddle is keeping the wolf close. I feel that means keep the Hons close or at least someone from the Hons close." Kazumo stated as he scratched his head. "But the Gwade Rangers? It does suit what I'm good at so I don't mind, but will they mind having me?"

Aiko nodded as she agreed with Kazumo's statement. There were many implications that accepting the Raven could have. From ranging to him simply embracing and reminding himself of his Sarutobi heritage. There could be another meaning to it but Aiko wasn't sure what she should give as an answer, seeing her own inexperience with oracles. Aware that there were people that devoted their entire lives to trying to understand the words and prophecies given by the oracles, Aiko wasn't sure about something.
"I am not sure what it could entitle, accepting the Raven. But I do think it is best to keep this silent and between us for a long time. It is best not to cause some weird change to happen. After all, I am slight worried about finding the Snake. If anything, the Wolf and Raven don't concern me that much. But the other parts? I don't understand them well enough to know what it could imply."

Deciding to not ponder more about it, Aiko decided to steer the conversation about the Gwade rangers. "They will. I am the acting general of this brigade, after all. The bigger and more important question is if you will be able to win their respect. If you manage that, you are one step closer to achieving your ambition." Aiko seemed to remember something else, just as she finished her sentence. "Not to mention that we can soon expect the visit of the Edani. I have sent word that you, a nephew of mine, would be eligible for an arranged marriage. Seeing the quick response and fact you even will be given options? I think that the Edani are quite eager."

Well that made sense if she commanded it then they had to accept it. Not that he minded he always wanted to improve his skill with his bow, and learning from experts on it was very much to his liking. Yet the Edani were coming here to the camp? It made some sense considering he would be deployed soon, so it made sense to have them visit so he could quickly head out. Although one thing Aiko said caused him to chuckle as he looked at her with a smile.

"I'm a Nephew of yours hmm? I'm learning all sorts of things this week. First I learn I've been introducing myself wrong all these years, then I find out you are my aunt. Should I be calling you Aunty Aiko when they come to visit then?" Kazumo said with a teasing smile.

Shooting Kazumo an amused look herself, Aiko's eyesbrows slightly perked upwards. "Aunty Aiko? Only if you want to be called something adorable as well. I wouldn't mind call you my 'little cakey'. Or perhaps 'little archer' could go well?" The woman clearly teased in return as she shook her head. "If anything, I foresee that the meeting will be you getting a chance to meet some of the proposed matches from the Edani. While I will be dealing with the less fun aspect. Such as the dowry and what not."

Thinking about something, Aiko's gaze moved slightly up, resting on Kazumo's hair. "I am now considering that you might need to dye or cover your hair. It will be easy to fool the Edani into settling with a match. But none of my family or line has ever been reported with blue hair. And though I can forge some matters and papers, it will be difficult to get you passing through with blue hair." The woman's eyes briefly narrowed, in clear delight of the amusing idea that crossed her mind.
"Maybe we should shave you, hm?"

Little cakey? Little archer? He couldn't help but chuckle at the little nicknames that she decided to come up with. "Maybe we stick with Aunt and Nephew, although they are sending multiple matches down here? Its going to be a bit odd meeting them in a camp." Then came the comment that maybe he should dye his hair as none of her line has ever had blue hair. She even suggested shaving his head which he was sure she was joking about but at the same time, he could see her being serious. "Think I'm a bit young to be shaving my head, if the hair color is an issue though. I wouldn't be opposed to changing the color." Kazumo replied with although he couldn't really imagine himself with red hair like her.

"That does bring up a slight concern of mine. Since I was told my lineage while it can be traced back to one of the kings of the Sarutobi Kingdom. It gets traced back to Astride and not Sigeberth. Should I lie about that? It's still of royal lineage but Astride wasn't the leader."

"You prefer to meet them somewhere more intimate?" Aiko asked, the amusement clear in her question as she threw the question at Kazumo. "If anything, be happy its in a camp. Means you will be excused if you show up in not anything fancy."
Glad that Kazumo was willing to dye his hair, Aiko wouldn't jump right away into action to get it done. They had some time but she did try to think on how else to explain Kazumo's hair colour. When the young man brought up the actual lineage of his, Aiko shook her head. Both her tone and facial expression perfectly reflected how serious she was.

"Never, ever mention that to anybody. I am sure you don't like the idea of living with a lie but it is for your own protection. If you let word spread about that truth, I fear that I can't protect you from the possible consequences. It will be giving your rivals and opponents the necessary tools, gutting you down before you can even think of calling the Sarutobi clans together." Worried that this would discourage Kazumo slightly or even upset him, she would continue on a less stern tone. "Perhaps once you have reached your ambition and have no need to fear, perhaps then the truth can come out. But for now? We must continue with what we once believed as well."

She had a point in that regard, he didn't really own many fancy clothing. Fanciest he had was the feast he was invited to. Guess he should count his blessings that it was indeed a camp he would meet them at. Although he wasn't looking forward to the fact he was meeting multiple women and that he would have to choose between them. He felt it was going to be a horrible experience somehow, mostly with how she reacted to his question.

She wanted him to lie all the way up until he achieved his goal, but that was the problem in his mind. A lie is just that, yet once you are using it for your own gain only to then tell the truth once you got what you wanted? He could see a lot of people getting angry over that, mostly those who also wanted to unite the Sarutobi. "I think I would have more to fear if I let it out once I did achieve my ambition. After all people were betrayed by their people for far less. I do see where you are coming from though, it makes it a lot easier if they believe you are a descendant of one who ruled. "

Kazumo's reply caused Aiko's features to become less stern. Her fear of him wanting the truth out seemed to be just her own blown up concern. "It is for the better if we will just never mention it again. It will just make matters much more complicated." Aiko stated. Inhaling slowly, she wondered what more they could prepare for his ambition. The truth, however, seemed to be that they couldn't really plan an awful lot more.

"Let us talk more about your entry to the Gwade rangers. You already likely know a thing or two about them. Probably even some matters that I don't know myself," she said, a faint smile appearing, "but you shall join them at the lowest rank. I am going to be honest and see if I can manipulate matters and operations to allow you to show your worth. If you can win the respect of those rangers, I am certain word will spread fast once we are done in the east. Certainly seeing that some of those rangers are sons of hersirs, thegns and such nobility."

He understood her concerns he really did, yet at the same time he felt a guilt inside him. He wanted to be honest with his people, and the first thing he would be doing is lying to all of them. It just felt wrong to him, but he also understood the benefits that came with tricking people into them thinking he was Sigeberths descendant. Hopefully he could figure out a way to be able to inform them all one day, or maybe it would be a secret to those he trusted over anyone else, maybe it just died with him.

She started going on about the Gwade Rangers and how she would try to manipulate matters so he could show his worth. That statement made him smile as if he could show his worth, mostly to all these people of varying classes. It would bode well for him if his name was spread among his people and even to those outside the Sarutobi. "Well I shall certainly try to keep up with all of them, I do look forward to it as a learning experience as Im sure they know techniques I never even thought of."

"From what I have learned, they aren't having many recruits. Many of them are veterans or well trained. The battalion's name is, 'Gwade's Finest', if my memory serves me correct." Letting that sink in, Aiko would slightly lean back in her seat. "You will have tomorrow off to get yourself settled in the camp and report yourself to the captain of the unit. After that? I believe that is up to them and how they will prepare you for the east. But I have faith that you will do well."

Considering all the plans that they had, it was quite satisfying that they were getting to the point where she could let Kazumo attempt to realise them. "This will mean that you are going to be on your own. Once you start with the ranger unit, there isn't a lot that I can do to make things easier."

One day off and then he would be reporting to the captain, he honestly was looking forward to that more than the prospect of picking a wife out of several potential matches. While he knew the days from here on out were going to be exhausting in terms of training, he was still fairly excited to learn from trained professionals. Ones that were supposedly the best of the best. Although the way she phrased it meant he would be seeing her far less, in fact the way she mentioned it made it seem like he was in a different unit than his team completely.

"Well I got to be able to do some things on my own. I appreciate all that you have done for me, but your 'little archer' has to be able to survive without you saving me from death every time." A small smile grew on his face. "I don't plan on giving up and I certainly wouldn't want it to be easier for me either. Who knows maybe I'll be the one saving you instead of me next time Aunty."

When Kazumo brought up the freshly thought off nick, Aiko scoffed - but in an amused fashion. "Let us not cross too far into the realms of fantasy, Kazumo," the woman said, still amused, at Kazumo's last comment. "After all, I fear that a lot needs to happen before anybody will need to save me. But you should get settled in the camp. I will let you know when the Edani will come with their entourage. Perhaps I can let it happen far from the rangers, before you will get treated differently."

"True after all anyone that requires you to be saved already sounds terrifying. If anything I would need to save them from you." he spoke in an amused tone before a more nervous laugh came when she said she would try to let the meeting with the edani happen away from the rangers. "That would be appreciated. I have a feeling I wouldn't be living that one down. But yeah, I should try and get settled in before I have my work cut out for me. Thank you again for all you have done for me. I really do appreciate it."

Aiko wanted to say something but decided against it, at the last second. A smile once more dawned on her features as she slightly tilted her head to the left. "I will try to make sure that if I ever need saving, to keep it easy for you." She half-joked before continuing. "You are welcome, little archer. Now make sure you don't get into trouble. Go, shoo!" Waving him off, Aiko felt her pride growing. As her worries, watching Kazumo taking his leave. For a moment, she wondered if she wasn't the Snake for actually considering to make it happen that he wouldn't work further for his ambitions - just to keep him safe.

Time for a mission
[ Karuko | Leader of Squad 'Yuki' | Kirigakure, Jounin-Office ]

Turning his head to the right, Karuko spat on the street. Ignoring the looks that he gained from a few folk, the jounin continued towards the centre of the capital. If anything, he wasn't in a good mood. And he did little to hide it. After all, he had desired more time to train and polish the team under his command to be better. Yet, he had gained instructions to bring out a report and likely to receive a mission. Something that had soured the man's mood as he already expected the outcome of his visit.
Approaching the complex, he would have to identify himself. Not in the mood for the strict control and discipline that the guards attempted to show, Karuko wanted nothing more than to make their days miserable. It would serve all of them right to think that they knew better than him what was best for the team. But in the end, Karuko just complied.

Going through the necessary protocols, Karuko would find himself in a small room with another person. It was a younger man that was writing on a sheet of paper. In stark contrast with the grumpy jounin, the young man showed no negativity towards Karuko.
"So, you state that the team isn't ready for a mission?" The young man asked, his gaze lifted from the paper.
"They are indeed not ready. I got two genin that are still green. And another that might have combat experience but I can't judge that yet. I will need more time." Karuko answered back, almost wanting to throw something at the brat for questioning him.
"I see, I see." The young man said as he would turn his attention to the paper and started to write again. Much to Karuko's annoyance.

Tapping his arm with his index finger, Karuko desired that the young man would hurry up. This was, after all, for nought. As if his words would sway some of the higher up jounins to not send the team on a mission. And while Karuko could understand that they wanted to deploy more teams, there was a difference between sending teams that were ready or just sporadically sending every team that they had on standby.

Eventually, Karuko's torture came to an end. The young man was done and would excuse himself. Once more Karuko had to wait for a response. Which could either exist out of a mission being given or an agreement that allowed him more time to train the current genin underneath his leadership.
The young man soon returned with a scroll, which was the cause for the corner of Karuko's lips to lower as his expression showed his dismay. Not waiting for the young man to explain what the mission was about, Karuko grabbed the scroll and just walked away. Once he was out, he threw a glance over his shoulder. Followed by a spat on the ground.
"Bunch of cunts."

The Plan is drawn...
[Empire of Akino | In one of the Imperial camps near the city of Aegir, Cho Clan heartlands ]
[ Hiron Hon | Major General of the 3rd Imperial Division, Leader of Team 9 ]

Staring at the map, Hiron listened to the report that was brought to him. It seemed that the mobilizing of the remains of the 3rd Imperial Division was near complete. The 11th Brigade was now gathered and desired to fullbring the training of the newest units that had been assigned under its command. Hiron didn't mind as he was assured by Aiko's presence that it wouldn't take too long.
Captain Drest was also present, patiently awaiting how Hiron would respond to the news that the messenger brought.
"Good. Inform that I desire that both the 11th as the Omari Battalion to be ready within two weeks. Then we will be ferried over the sea." Hiron said as he looked away from the map to the messenger. "The first to be ferried over will be the 12th brigade. Then half of the 11th and the Omari Battalion. Then the remaining part of the 11th Brigade. Make sure that both the Omari colonel and the 11th general will learn of these instructions."

The messenger nodded firmly, followed by a salute before he took his leave. Waiting for a moment, Drest scoffed. "I don't like the 9th. Damned smartasses with their so-called code language. Give me two hundred good riders and I can have any message brought." The captain mumbled, but audible enough for Hiron to follow.
"Don't fret over them. They will make themselves useful." Hiron stated as he kept studying the map. In truth, there wasn't much information to go off on by. The eastern continent was sparsely explored in the known past. The only ones that perhaps had a good understanding of the mysterious continent were the locals that had settled on the western coast. Yet the campaign was to be extended as it became clear that a threat was lurking on the unknown continent. Where Hiron would have called such an endeavour to be risky and of little value, he certainly saw certain merit in it now.

"What about those Omari?" Drest asked, the captain throwing a cautious sideways glance at Hiron. "The Rain clans or its people have never really been known to be competent fighters. Let alone potent material for soldiers."

"True, but they seem disciplined and organised. If they can follow orders then I won't mind their presence," Hiron replied. He didn't understand why the Omari clan was present. While he suspected that the Omari likely had some idea of wanting to gain glory and prestige from participating more directly, Hiron didn't see them as a threat to his own plans. It was their own decision to join the fray, not his.

"If the information is correct, then general Hyuzu is commanding his forces here. Together with the Northern and Republican allies," Hiron stated as he placed his index finger on the spot. "It will be days of marching from where we establish a landing zone. Once we land, I will dispatch two groups of riders. The first will make haste to general Hyuzu's location. To inform him that we've arrived. The second group will travel to the south. To the Honey country," Hiron stated, slowly moving his gaze to the present captain.

"I want to know what the Republic will do to support us further. If they don't want us to claim the Wolf country as future Imperial hold, then I want more of their effort put into this all." Hiron stated firmly, earning a slow nod from Drest.

"And what will we do once we are there? Arriving at the camp of this kid--"
"General Hyuzu has proven his worth well. He managed to keep an allied force that had more reasons to gut each other than you and I have now. And managed to keep it all unified." Hiron said, his voice lowering as his eyes narrowed. The message was clear as Drest seemed worried and quickly made a bow with his head.

"Forgive me, major general." Drest mumbled as he would raise his head. "But will general Hyuzu stay in command?"
The question wouldn't be instantly answered by Hiron. His gaze briefly travelled back to the map. "I will allow him to keep some of his command. But once I have arrived, I will take over. Those brigades are part of the 3rd Division. My division," Hiron stated, once more his tone firm.

"Understood, major general." Drest said, who glanced briefly at the map as well. "Shall I prepare your other plan then?" The question was just met with a nod from Hiron.Drest would give his superior a resolute salute before taking his leave.

If anything, Hiron realised how many forces he had under his command. The current numbers on the ledger pointed out that he now commanded a force of roughly 17.000 troops. The reinforcements that were supposed to fill in the gaps for the three brigades that were already present on the eastern front, under Hayate's leadership. Then with the 11th brigade and Omari Battalion, Hiron realised that he would be in charge of approximately 35.000 troops.
Not phased by the large number or the responsibility, Hiron did briefly wonder what Hisoka would think of this. The rebellious boy that had kicked the door of the Uchiha, to now lead a mighty force to bring the eastern threat the cold respond of steel and fire.
Straightening his back, Hiron scoffed as he decided that before he would leave the eastern continent only two options.

Bend or suffer.

[ The Daimyo Castle | Ranzaki, the capital of the Lightning Country ]
[ Yakamochi of the Tano Clan | New master of arms for the Regency council forces ]

Yakamochi's Move

Yakamochi stared at the few maps, that were organised neatly on the table in front of him. Standing behind it, the man was stroking his chin while using his other, left arm to allow his right elbow to rest. Information was flooding in and it was both good and bad news.
According to the operatives that were spying in the south, the nomadic clan of Uvas clan was fulfilling their end of the bargain. The supplies that were sent from the southern part to the Raikage's forces were consistently under attack from the nomadic clan and her subjects. With the winter season still in effect, it would certainly cause a lot of discomfort for the Raikage's forces in various places.
Then there was also the fact that a potent force was attacking them. From the sea, the Sanosuke clan and her allies were conducting raids on various positions. Remarkably, they weren't targetting any civilian site but simply attacking and destroying small fortified positions that held valuable supplies. With the Regency not having a direct command over a fleet, Yakamochi couldn't do much in direct response.

"Lord General," a familiar voice pierced the air, causing Yakamochi to twist his head slightly to see who approached him. "You summoned me?" Koryusai said, lowering his head in a small and quick bow. The motion betrayed Yakamochi's younger brother excitement.
"I did," Yakamochi started slowly as he gestured his sibling to come and join him at the table. "I want you to take around ten thousand men and march north. Fortify and dig in various spots. The Sanosuke and their allies are trying to probe our defences. I want you to be ready if they descend from their mountain ranges."

Yakamochi swore that he could already hear Koryusai's objection. His younger brother lip's parted, a frown already present on his brow. "I shall see that it is done. Anything else, Lord General?" Koryusai asked. But Yakamochi shook his head. "No. Just don't get yourself taunted out. I want to prevent that the Sanosuke will lure us out into a situation that is favourable to them. Keep your head cool."

The talk that followed was short. Yakamochi explained a few things that he knew about the Sanosuke and their allies. While he was confident that Koryusai was a competent leader, Yakamochi was well aware that his younger sibling was out for glory and prestige. Not very surprising, the youngest of Yakamochi's siblings was eager to prove his worth. But Yakamochi was aware of what danger that excitement and motivation could prove.

The next that had a meeting with Yakamochi was another of his commanders. The stocky, short man marched into the room. A firm nod was given before he further approached Yakamochi. "Lord General, I have arrived." Mayeda Kano stated, his presence bearing the confidence of the veteran commander.
"I am glad to welcome you once more, Kano-san," Yakamochi replied, a small bow of his head following to show a sign of respect for his older subordinate. "I want you to take two thousand troops at once. March on Okino and secure the port-city." Yakamochi instructed, gaining a frowned look from the commander. Already Yakamochi knew what the man was going to state.

"Lord General, forgive me. But Okino is currently under the rule of the Jun clan. They have provided supplies before to the Regency. Am I to take the city or simply reinforce it?" Kano asked, the caution clear in his voice as he seemed to understand that the situation wasn't that simple regarding Okino.

"The Jun clan has provided supplies but they haven't provided manpower to bring these rebellious clans and Raikage down. Try to negotiate peacefully. But if they don't open the gates, then take the city back for his Majesty." Yakamochi ordered, gaining a nod from Kano in return.
"I understand, Lord General."

"The Alaricus seem to not favour an offensive manoeuvre at the time. Neither have we received any word that the Raikage has moved any forces," Yakamochi explained to his younger sibling. Hogai was older than Koryusai. More mature and less eager to prove his worth, Hogai was much alike Yakamochi. Which had made it easy for Yakamochi to appoint his brother to be his second-in-command.
"The Hojo are the most dangerous. They have repelled the first attack. And could launch a direct attack on the capital. If anything, I have already fortified various positions with some numbers. Making it difficult for them to get to Ranzaki."

"But not impossible," Hogai muttered, clearly discontent. "If anything, we should move more than five thousand to reinforce those positions. If you want to move south, it is of paramount importance that we don't lose the capital. If we lose the capital, we essentially lost the conflict." Hogai paused as he pointed at the map. "Currently, the Hojo have a large force. We need to keep them occupied at all cost. At the same time, we will have to ensnare the Raikage's forces. Currently, they won't be able to raise a force quick enough. Unless the Raikage risks a revolt to try to draft forces."

Yakamochi nodded as he listened intently to his brother, Hogai. He doubted that the Raikage force could field a large enough army to oppose them on the field. If anything, this would come down to sieges and shrewd tactics. "I want an army of fifteen thousand to march on this position," Yakamochi pointed at a point that was located north of the Alaricus clan heartlands. "This force should march to this position while the other twelve thousand will march according to this route." Yakamochi would point a position that was west of where he had pointed before.

"You shall command the remaining six thousand. If all goes according to our plan, we will smash any possible opposition on our way to Kumogakure."

A new style?
[ Empire of Akino | Cho Clan heartlands, some distance north of the port-city of Aegir, at a fortified camp ]
[ Meilin Cho | Chuunin- Squad Leader of Team 4 | A sergeant within the Axebiters ]

Some days had past and despite some of the lesser attractive features of being part of an Imperial unit, Meilin did find some aspects better than to be in a city. Over the last week, she started to try to 'enjoy' the heavy training. Certainly was a lot less nice than to be lounging in a city and just training whenever she felt like. But there was a certain satisfaction to get through and sit down at evening, realising she was part of something.

Currently, she and the others were part of the 11th Brigade. A brigade that carried the ominous name of 'Hell's Raiders'. As unhospitable as the name was, Meilin had noticed little problems for the team to be accepted as members of the unit. The majority around them seemed to be Chonobi, of the Cho clan. But there were both Yakimara as Taika present - in all forms and ranks, so far Meilin had noticed. And nobody questioned each other. In a way, while rougher, the camp was more united than any city she had been in. People greeted each other or spoke with little to no problem, whenever they weren't chased by lieutenants and captains to be trained or assigned to various tasks.

As the dark of the evening came, Meilin considered her options. She belonged together with her team to the battalion of the 'Axebiters'. A unit that was led by a man called Eòin. She had seen the colonel of the battalion only once or twice and didn't know anything about him. Asking anybody else in the unit was also going to be fruitless, for the majority were new recruits into the unit.
Settling down in front of the tent, that she shared with her team, Meilin released a soft sigh. The evenings were usually when she and the others had some time to themselves. Unless they were assigned to do patrols. Many spent those time with taking it easy and do something as writing back home. There were some fanatics that decided to use that time to train a bit more. Usually, the bunch that also first would be tired and perform the worst the next day.

Deciding to take it a little bit easy, Meilin brought her hands together. Weaving four handsigns at a slow pace, Meilin slowly moved her left hand away. Hovering the hand above her right forearm, Meilin focused on the technique. At a slow speed, a certain material started to grow on her cloth and skin, the cold material giving a comforting sensation while reflecting some of the campfire's light. Conjuring more of the light purple material, Meilin started to shape a rough shape of what Yumi had taught her: a blade.
Once done, Meilin inspected the crystal-shaped blade. It certainly lacked the refinement that Yumi had showcased.

[Flashback: In Ardara, some time ago - during Team 4's stay in the Sarutobi city. ]
[ Crystal Release Training ]
[ A collab between @Lesli and @Oetje j | Yumi goes to train Meilin, after helping Aoi. The Scholae takes great interest in the fact that Meilin has shown the capability to conjure and mould chakra into crystal release. Deciding to aid Meilin, Yumi helps Meilin to get a grasp on the basic as advice on how to continue ]

Heading to the inn, Yumi had little trouble to find the room in which Meilin would be in. On her way to the room, Yumi pondered briefly on what she had found out the last few days about Meilin and her team. She was mostly interested in Aoi Miyazato and Meilin Cho. For she had little reason to meddle with the Yamanaka or Hon, Aoi and Meilin both possessed a rare kekkei genkei. As that was already on its own interesting, both kekkei genkei were having an earth release component.
And now as a Scholae, Yumi could pursue some of her own interests. The freedom compared to be a Shadow ANBU had seemed awkward, at first, but were now certainly embraced by Yumi.

Arriving at the door of the room, Yumi knocked a few times before taking a step back. Throwing a glance where she had came from, Yumi continued her pondering a bit further.

Getting up from her bed, Meilin would rub the back of her head. She was content on how the mission had ended, without any backlash on her team. The wounds that Dagrún and Aoi had suffered had worried Meilin but they hadn't proven to be lethal. Only now they had to rest and wait for new orders, which was more than fine with Meilin.
Approaching the door, she would unlock it and open it.

"Oh, hey," Meilin reacted, unable to contain her surprise of seeing it was Yumi. If anything, she had expected the others of the team. Stepping outside, she would close the door behind her. "Sorry, I hadn't expected you. How can I be of help?" Meilin continued, a polite smile dawning on her lips.

If Yumi was amused at the fact Meilin was surprised, the woman didn't showcase it. Nodding, Yumi would return a reply on her turn. "It is fine. I came without letting you know that I was on my way," she began, "Would you be perhaps interested to join me today in some training?" Yumi decided to ask.

Surprised, Meilin would slowly nod to emphasise her answer. "Yes, of course. I would like that." Pausing for a second, Meilin gestured for Yumi to take the lead. "I am free for the day anyway, so lead the way please."
Following the Scholae, Meilin wondered briefly if she should be worried about Dagrún who stayed in the same room. But she was certain that Madoc would make sure that neither Aoi or Dagrún would have to worry about anything. And Mamoru? Meilin decided to risk the chances to train with Yumi.

Content with the reply, Yumi would turn to start walking. Leading herself and Meilin out of the establishment, the Scholae headed towards the same barracks where she had trained with Aoi. The walk was relatively silent, save it from the ambience of the urban life around them.
Entering the building, Yumi continued to lead Meilin to the place. Once they were there, it was much different than how Yumi had set it up for the training with Aoi.

"Today, I will teach you something that I have only considered teaching one other person," Yumi began, her tone marking that she was quite serious. Turning towards Meilin, Yumi placed her hands on her back as she locked her eyes on the Cho. "I will thus need to say that if I ever receive news that you use this skill or any affiliated on against the Empire, I will seek you out personally."

Meilin frowned as they entered the building. The area that Yumi took her to was empty, save it for a few targets that were set up. As the Scholae began to speak, Meilin remained silent. Despite that the woman had no physical features that could be described as intimidating, Meilin recalled that this woman had way more combat experience than her. That she had fought off a demon and a kekkei genkei that could kill with ease.
This wasn't a half-hearted threat.

"I understand," Meilin said, her tone a bit softer as she felt unsure how to proceed. She wasn't even sure how to address the Scholae for a moment. The silence certainly made it anything but easier to just stand and be confident.

Letting an echoing ring after Meilin's response, Yumi flashed a soft smile. "Good. I don't take you for a deserter. But there is great care to prevent that this knowledge falls into the wrong hands. Now, allow me to start with the theory." Yumi enlisted a second of pause. "I understand that you have been drilled and trained to utilize the Fire chakra nature? The fact is that Crystal release is vastly different. It is shaped and handled differently. In short?"

Yumi glanced at one of the targets. Moving her hands together, the Scholae weaved through a few handseals. Nearly was she done or a handful of crystal shuriken started to materialize while being sent flying on the target. A few soft thuds resonated as the projectiles hit all around the bullseye.
"It can be swift and precise. Formed out thin air, as long as there is enough moist. Or another source to crystalize," the Scholae said as she turned back to Meilin. "In a basic sense? Elemental ninjutsu that is based on earth, water, wood and such are practically defenceless against Crystal release. For more or less solid forms can be taken over and crystalized. Elements like lightning, wind and that what is based on less solid forms are harder to counter. In fact, lightning will be able to provide a real threat if you don't know how to fight it."

Taking the information in, Meilin slowly nodded. She felt a twinge of excitement but also a sense of dread. The fact that Crystal Release was so potent did worry her. Thinking about what Yumi told Meilin, it did make Meilin wonder who had likely pursued crystal release users or the kekkei genkei itself. Such a dangerous release could be used to great effects.
"So, what more weaknesses does Crystal Release have?" Meilin decided to ask.

"To be fair? Not a lot. Fire and wind will crash and be hardly able to break through a strong enough crystal technique. While they can't be crystalized, they don't have the same penetrating force that lightning has." Yumi answered, "However, the fact is that while lightning can penetrate it, there are several factors. If you create a thick wall, for instance, it is unlikely that the lightning technique can just bite through it. If the opponent also is bursting through their chakra reserves, then it is unlikely they will win despite having an elemental affinity or mastery that beats crystal release on paper."
Pausing, Yumi would let the information sink in before she continued.
"Today, I will try to teach you two techniques. They will form the base of two styles of crystal release." The Scholae would produce a small scroll from a pouch and toss it towards Meilin.

Catching the scroll, Meilin wanted to already read and see what information was documented in it. But her curiosity was turned towards Yumi.
"Two styles of crystal release?" Meilin asked, trying to figure what that could mean.

"Mhm. In short, you got the style of manipulating and creating crystal on a distance. Like my small example," the Scholae gestured to the target riddled with a few crystal shuriken. "I consider that the distance manipulation. It is the more difficult of the two styles that I will teach you. And then you got the direct manipulation," bringing her hands together, Yumi calmly went through the required four handsignals. Upon the last, she would let the gloved fingers of her left hand run over her right forearm. In a rapid speed the chakra builds up in Yumi's arms would mould and take shape. Into a crystal blade that would be attached to a coat of crystal, tightly around Yumi's right forearm.

"The direct manipulation is the easier form. But shall we begin then?"

Beads of sweat ran down Meilin's skin. She was exhausted and hunched forward, trying to catch her breath. Glancing at the target, she was already aware of the last result. The few projectiles had missed the target and just harmlessly hit the wall behind the target. To then fall on the ground, joining the other dozen of roughly crystal-shaped shuriken.
Frustrated by the fact she had missed her target, Meilin couldn't push her body to straighten and attempt again.
"I am spent," Meilin managed to say as she would briefly close her eyes.

"Not bad," Yumi concluded. She had been watching while Meilin attempted to hit the target with the crystal shuriken technique. If anything, Yumi was content with the Cho's progression. She wasn't perhaps the most talented person but certainly had the drive. Which was more worth in Yumi's opinion.
"You will need more practice and experience before you can consider yourself a master of these two basic techniques. However," Yumi would dig into another pouch to produce yet another scroll. "You can have this. Once you are proficient enough with the two techniques you learned today, then you should advance with this one. But only if you have mastered the previous techniques? Else? You will fail."

A Busy Day
[ Empire of Akino | Konohagakure, the Royal Palace ]
[A collab between @Oblivion666 and @Aliceee - with a chiming of @conman2163 | Sigurðr Agnar and Kiyomi Homura | Sigurðr returns to Konohagakure after having dealt with the Red Swords. Having a brief meeting with Kiyomi, the Empress makes a decision with what Sigurðr brings back. ]

Thousands of feet marched in unison, the last objective was before them and the result was to be the same but in an easier fashion. The camp they were going against while it was bigger and more defended, they didn't have the numbers to combat Sigurðr's forces nor did they have the training his men did. Yet he wasn't playing any games with these weaklings, no they deserved a defeat that be-fit their weakling nature. Yet today wasn't such a bad day, after all her Majesty gave him and the boys some…. Toys to test out.

Staring at the base of operations for the Red Swords, his army and that of the others who had the place surrounded made no move to charge the place. Instead the sound of a wooden construct could be heard from the back, raising his hand Sigurðr had this smile on his face as he peered back at the trebuchets behind him. Five in total on his side and several wagons full of big as shit rocks to rain down on the sons of bitches. "Men keep yourself on guard, I doubt it's needed but we don't half ass things! If they come to us, then they simply accept death faster. They stay in their piss ant colony? Then we get to enjoy the show! Trebuchets!!! Fire!!!" Sigurðr shouted the orders as the trebuchets fired off in unison sending their loaded rocks high into the air as they traveled through the sky, one slamming through a wall, taking a little watchtower down with it, the others landed somewhere inside the camp itself.

Almost as if that was the queue, the other armies on the other sides also sent their own barrage of rocks through the air, some slamming a bit short, or inside the camp out of sight of the armies to truly know what damage was done. Then again that might not be an issue for long if these shots keep breaking down their walls.

The "camp" the imperials were now barraging was in fact more of a fortified compound. A thin wall ran all the way around a small base of operations large enough to comfortably contain about a thousand mercenaries, with the living quarters situated around various facilities like a smithy, guild hall, bathhouse, and mess. At the center of it a tall building that served as both a central keep of sorts and guild hall made from stone rose a few stories up, and at the top, the banner of the Red Swords flew proudly. Posted around the thin wall at regular intervals were wooden watchtowers, one of which was now sitting on the ground in pieces. As for the troops inside, there were about eight hundred in total, they made up a majority of the "veteran" mercenaries. The men who had seen battle in wars and various conflicts that the Red Swords were based in. They had seen artillery before, and although they had no real way of fighting back against the missile attacks, the troops scattered and took cover, forming into small units as the artillery barrage rolled in. those troops who couldn't find cover made for a scattered formation, and several groups, around thirty or so, got the bright idea to pack into cellars under the guild hall, waiting for the barrage to end. As such, while damage was high, casualties after the initial barrage would be lower. With around seventy or so dying and another thirty injured.

What followed the barrage was a second then a third and so on. Rocks kept hurtling through the air slamming into walls, buildings. What was a compound was nothing more than rubble after all the shots were done. Majority of the walls laid shatter and scattered about. Buildings that the men had no idea what were for laid in piles. The giant tower that stood in the center now laid in pieces on the ground, what used to be a place that one could defend was no longer. Sigurðr saw some of the people that were there under the rubble dead, or what looked like people squished into red paste, truly this was a horrific sight to look at. A sight that looked downright tyrannical from any other perspective. Yet the worst has yet to come for while the "siege" was certainly not needed it allowed him to see what he wanted to see. Devastation, hopelessness, nothing. Everything laid in ruins nothing to be of use. Some walls still stood but anyone inside smartly retreated into a bunker if they had any anyway, afterall all, all he saw was rubble.

He made the men move closer and had the archers position themselves closer. Orders were to shoot at anyone they saw moving about. The rest of the men were to set up camp, they were now waiting for life to do the rest. A quite vile tactic but effective, if you want the best results against an enemy that's not fighting back, then you wanted to starve them. After all the more hungry, the more panicked a man became and even worse the weaker you become. Yet the most despicable result that could happen? Was forcing a hungry man into eating what he never thought he would want to. Yet watch they did with Sigurðr keeping a valiant eye on the place. Every so often you would hear a barrage of arrows raining down on the rubble of the compound, yet near the fifth day it became more often yet died down quickly after the ninth barrage. Sixth day had two barrages, the seventh had nothing along with the eighth and ninth day. At the start of the tenth day Sigurdur looked upon the camp and gave the order for the surrounding force to move in to eliminate any that might still be alive and to start digging. They had a lot of stuff to unbury.

==================

Walking through the halls would be Sigurðr and about six men carrying boxes which were of course inspected to make sure nothing of harm was inside. He had a meeting today to report his success in wiping out any of the Red Swords within her Majesty's lands. And the proof was all the money and goods they had taken from each camp and their compound. Arriving at the door, he would knock and await permission to enter. He did look back at the men who had to readjust every now and then to keep their firm grip on what they were holding.

The door would be opened by one of the Sworn Swords. Due to the difference in rank, despite the different units, the respective Sworn Sword would step aside and follow the motion with a resolute salute. Heralding the entrance of the Major General, Sigurðr would be welcomed into a spacious room. Despite the few Sworn Swords, there wasn't much decorations or matters that seemed to resemble anything of military. There were some paintings and other decorations that created a most relaxed atmosphere in the room, even in spite of the royal guards presence.

"General," Kiyomi said as she seemed most comfortable in her chair. Holding a cup, the steam that gently rose from the cup's content hinted strongly to tea. "I take it that everything has ended well?" Raising the cup, the young monarch shed a curious look at the men that carried the boxes.

Walking into the open room with the men behind him, he would see her majesty sitting in her chair who appeared to be quite relaxed. When she asked if everything ended well, Sigurðr nodded and held his arm out to the men who walked forward. Sigurðr took one of the small chests in one arm and pat his soldier on the shoulder, who seemed a bit annoyed his boss just showed him up but relieved to be rid of holding the thing. Sigurdur would open it towards the Sworn Sword just so he could see nothing bad was in the chest before moving closer to Kiyomi and setting it on the table opened in front of her.

"It ended indeed. They were easy pickings mostly if you are like Felagi over there and stab them all in their sleep. Like he lost no men in his raid on…. The one near the Hon borders?" Sigurðr said turning his head at Felagi who nodded. "I however took the worst damage…. A cunt spit on my helmet." Sigurðr said with a chuckle before becoming more serious on the matter.

"But aye all their little camps and their compound are gone and void of life. Compound might take a bit to clean up and might want to send more steel hearted people for clean up. When you starve an enemy out, they get a bit ... desperate."

Looking at the chest as he moved it a bit closer. "Each chest is roughly the same the money we found on them along with anything that looked like it would be of value. Some gems, some small decorative items. I spared you the pain of drinking their shit booze,I swear the Hanta have more balls than their drinks did." Sigurðr said shaking his head. "Their might be some scattered pieces of money at their compound. Hard to find everything when its buried under rubble. Yet the majority of your spoils are right here." Sigurðr stated as the men would place the chests on the table.

Kiyomi observed the scenery in front of her, listening to the briefing of Sigurdur. The facial expression of Kiyomi didn't change, not reflecting her thoughts or opinion. "Very good," she started, a smile playing on her lips, "See to it that your men are properly rewarded. Take two of those chests and let the loyal men of the 2nd Division be properly thanked for their endeavours." Pausing for a mere moment, Kiyomi continued. "I will make sure to use the few other chests to good use. Thank you, Major General."

[ Kiyomi Homura | The Empress of Akino | Occupied with some of her recent ambitions. ]

Excited, Kiyomi would place the object down. It was a small, round object that resembled a city. Placing it with a certain gentle and care on the desired spot, she would straighten her back. Aware that the plan wasn't executed, the young monarch was more than thrilled to see that the idea would move past the phase of planning and consideration.
The last clan meeting had been quite fruitful and allowed her to gain quite some funds. The donations would be around the size of five-hundred golden suns. A stunning amount of wealth that could see various ambitions to be fulfilled. Such as enlarging the land forces with two to three divisions. Or pour it into the Royal Navy, seeing the production increased and what not.
However, a part was promised to be allocated and aid those who had suffered underneath some of the recent conflicts. Having conversed with some minds of the Homura University, Kiyomi was able to come up with some plans as learning what plans wouldn't work.

Now that a certain percentage would be set aside to remain as a reserve in the treasury and another percentage of the vast amount of wealth being put to charity, Kiyomi was able to focus the wealth on an ambition that had been on her mind of late.
The careful planning and construction of a new city.
It had irked Kiyomi a lot when she wanted to start the project. Certainly, because it had required so much planning and people being unsure about the funds. The impatience of the young monarch's age did show several times but she was more than happy to have reached the point where she was now.

If anything, some raw resources were allocated to the site of where the new Imperial city would be founded. Nestled on the banks of a river, the position would be the key reason for Kiyomi's want to locate it there.
Aware already how locations could provide a strategic factor, Kiyomi had been extremely hard to convince to move the location elsewhere. In her mind, the city would be built in her image. To become the sort of second capital of the Empire.
As the refugees from the Claw would be guided from the Rain province to the location, Kiyomi also considered some other methods to see the settlement gain a populace faster. According to some learned minds of the university that had debated, pondered and having done some research, it would be best to offer clans to build compounds into the city. However, Kiyomi didn't want to create a second Konohagakure. If anything, the city should entirely belong to her. The idea wasn't because she was afraid that a clan would proclaim that they had more right to the city. That and it was most certainly going to be the case that certain clans and folk would occupy their own districts anyways.
No, this would be her place. Her haven and city.
Her gift to ---

Turning her head, Kiyomi saw that Katashi entered the room. He made a small bow with his head - seeing that they were alone with some other Sworn Swords and servants, he was excused to not resort to the traditional formalities.
"Your Majesty," the captain-commander began as he approached Kiyomi, holding up a small scroll, "the latest report regarding the 3rd Division's progress."

Flashing a smile, Kiyomi took the scroll and unfolded it. Reading the content quickly, she would simply nod and return the scroll back to Katashi.
"So Hiron is making steady progress of readying the reinforcements for the east." She said, though turning back to the large map on the table.

"It certainly seems so. The transport ships are being gathered as well. Much like before, the forces will be ferried over in parts rather than as a whole," Katashi responded, throwing a glance at what the young monarch was occupied with. "I reckon that soon enough, he will take command over the forces in the east. And then bring it to heel, seeing the number of troops he has at his command."

Kiyomi nodded, rather absentmindedly. She would rather desire somebody else to go. But who else was there to send? Though there were a number of competent commanders and people, Hiron was likely the best to send. He had the motivation, experience and at the moment the 3rd Division wouldn't be missed. There wasn't a reason yet to worry that a threat would come from the Lightning, who was too busy tearing itself apart.
"Have you prepared what I asked though?" Kiyomi asked, shooting a sideways glance at Katashi.

The man nodded slowly. "I have selected the most experienced and best that are present within the Sworn Swords. The Major General shall be safeguarded by people I handpicked for their competence and loyalty, your Majesty. You have little to fear for the Major General's health." Katashi said, a hint of pride present as he answered her question.
Kiyomi lingered her gaze at the man before turning it back on the map. She knew that Hiron would detest her decision of sending Sworn Swords to protect him. But as stubborn as he could be, she was willing to match it.

"So, how is this plan of yours going?" Katashi asked, finally admitting to his curiosity.
"It is about to be executed, the plan that is," Kiyomi proclaimed as she gestured to the map of the region. "The city shall be founded on a location of great strategic importance. There, you see?" She threw a look if he was actually paying attention or just trying to distract her attention from Hiron's safety. "I just need to think of a name."

Katashi frowned as he indeed paid attention. But it was clear that matters of building and considering cities weren't his forte. Yet, he would persist with responding back. "Well, you are going to find it? Sorry, your Majesty, but I always ... found it weird that one 'finds' a city."

Kiyomi's lips parted as she shot a look at Katashi. But she had no reasoning why it was like that. Distracted for a bit, Kiyomi turned her attention back to explaining her plan further.
"Yeah but it needs a good name. After all, if it sticks around for a long time then I want to sound good. So far, I haven't really been able to come up with anything fitting. And asking the folk from the University? Dear gods, that hasn't worked out either."

The comment of Kiyomi would provoke a smirk from Katashi, almost as if the man was happy that those learned men in their robes didn't have an answer to everything. "Well, you could it name after yourself."
Kiyomi scoffed lightly upon the suggestion. "No, that isn't subtle. I want people to know who they can thank the city for. But having it named directly after me isn't what I desire."
"Well, what about 'Katashi'? I am certain that will work out just fine," the man suggested, the amusement ringing clear in his voice.

Frowning at the man, Kiyomi shook her head. "No, no. That would make it too Taika. I want this to become a centre of Akinian culture. A point where people will not directly think of me. And well," in an act of built-up frustration, Kiyomi threw her hands up, "I don't know!"

"Hironas?"
"Hmm, maybe? We got some time."

A new lesson!
[ Empire of Akino | Cho Clan heartlands, some distance north of the port-city of Aegir, at a fortified camp ]
[ A collab between Meilin Cho { @Oetje } and Mamoru Senju { @RedFox } | Despite the grueling exercises they are forced to undertake, Mamoru seeks out Meilin again and she agrees to further train him. They end up getting to know each other better and Mamoru learns some important news about his Teacher . ]

Sighing, Meilin was relieved that she had the evening off. The constant training was certainly not a laughing matter. And while she had some hopes to get accustomed to it all, it didn't make things easier. Almost like the trainers found new ways to test their mettle and keep exhausting them.
Arriving at her tent, Meilin did little effort to clean her clothes. Sitting down on her rear, she would briefly throw a glance at the scenery in front of her. There weren't many that she could spot that seemed to have the energy to do much interesting. That and likely everybody was aware that the next day would be filled with drills, patrols and other ways of training. Not really something that inspired one to stay up late or exhaust even more energy.

Pondering on something, Meilin would turn to her rucksack. Searching for something, she pulled out some material. Using a wooden block, she placed some paper on it. Constantly, the young woman kept throwing glances at the scenery in front of her while she seemed to use charcoal on the paper.

Dear Mom, Dad, I'm writing this from a camp north of Aegir. The weather is lovely here, and the nature surrounding our camp sure has its beauty. I wish you could be here, to see it with me. Our days are very long and exhausting - we are running drills and exercises from pretty much sunrise, sometimes until dusk. Today we ended earlier and had some spare time, so I wanted to write down something that I thought about today. If it weren't for you and Mom training me from an early age, I couldn't be here today. Even if somehow I would get here, I don't think I would endure this training. Thank you for being the strong roots for this Stubborn Oak. Love, Mamoru. [\I]

Mamoru smiled at the page and leaned his head back, enjoying the gentle breeze on his face, together with the rays of sun. He let the page open to allow it to dry and he looked around the camp from his elevated position. He could see people resting and that was it. They really worked them hard today and Mamoru felt a few scratches on his unbandaged arm, and a bruise on his ribs. If training with Meilin showed that he needs to curtain his excitement in order to progress, today proved it definitely. All the pains on his body resulted from him momentarily losing his focus, something he was reprimanded for. He made some progress in that regard afterwards, but it will still be some time till he can stay level headed during his training sessions.

He closed the notebook with entries written to his parents and placed it in a pouch. He spent a minute or two, taking in the sun, enjoying the pleasant warm he felt on his skin. He then stretched himself and made his way down to ground level. He walked among the tents, looking at people as he passed them. Some of them were eating, sipping on tea, others were engaged in lively discussions with their peers. He thought about having a lovely cup of green tea once he gets to his tent. Before he reached it, he passed near Meilin's tent, and he spotted his mentor sitting in front of her tent, appearing to be - drawing? Having his interest piqued, he slowly approached her, making sure not to disturb her during her artistic process.

Continuing with her work, Meilin made some adjustments. The drawing seemed to start borrowing a lot from what she could take in from around her, the tents and atmosphere of the camp. But eventually, she started to give a bit of her own twist to it. Eventually, the paper seemed to be filled with charcoal with the image of a camp drawn out of it. Reviewing her work briefly, Meilin considered how she could store it or let it be send. Perhaps it would help to cheer Irene and the others?
Carefully storing the paper away, Meilin noticed a familiar face in the corner of her sight. Turning to face Mamoru, Meilin flashed a polite smile.

"Mamoru, hey," Meilin began, "glad to see you survived today as well."

Chuckling a bit, Mamoru approached Meilin and squatted next to her, looking at her drawing. "There were a few moments when I thought I'd rather not, Sensei. I can feel every muscle and bone aching… Even my hair hurts. But thank you. I'm glad you're still with us too." he said, taking in more of her drawing. It was a very lifelike adaptation of the scene in front of their eyes, and with Meilin's personal touch, it looked even better. He sweared he could feel how exhausted he people are just from looking at her drawing. "Exhaustion at Aegir. I - I mean, that's how I would remember that scenery of yours. I think we just need to survive a few more days, Sensei. After that we'll be so exhausted we won't even notice it anymore, and we'll just go on." He was wondering if Meilin would be up for some extra training, but he was not sure if this was a fitting moment. After all, he was sure she was exhausted from today's grueling exercises as well and he didn't want to push his luck.

A smile crept on Meilin's lips as she heard Mamoru's comment. If anything, she wouldn't mind not to experience the fatigue that started to play after each day, only to be experienced after each day of hard work. If someone would have told her, a year or so ago, that she would be throwing herself at so much training, she would have declared them mad.
"That would be a nice change of pace. How are you doing with the practice of chakra flow? Not encountered any problem, I hope?" She decided to ask in return to steer the conversation from the tiresome exercises, training and drills.

He thought a bit about how his experience was with the exercise Meilin taught him. Each time he did the exercise, he felt like he was struggling as he did his first time doing it. But after each time, he realized he performed it with slightly less effort and chakra than the previous day. It was still a long road to reach Meilin's level, but there were definitely some improvements."No problems so far, Sensei. It gets slightly easier each time I do the exercise. It's as if the point of the exercise was to teach me that I can do my techniques in a more efficient way with less chakra spent. I was wondering, Sensei. What are some possible follow ups to the training you did with me? "

Paying good attention to what Mamoru told her, Meilin slowly nodded to emphasise that she understood what he said. Hoping that Mamoru would keep up the course with the practice of the chakra flow, Meilin threw a sideways glance at him when he asked for a training. In truth, she wasn't feeling to do any training. The various courses she was undergoing were hard enough. But Meilin would mentally remind herself of her duties.
"Some possible follow ups? Let us first head to a more proper area," Meilin stated as she would get up. Dusting off her clothes, she gestured Mamoru to follow her. Heading towards the training field, Meilin would speak up.
"Technically, there are a lot of follow ups. In a way, I have simply given you the basic. It is now how you want to advance on it. From making the range on your chakra flow to become larger to performing a wide variety of moves with it."

When they reached the training grounds, there were still people being drilled and trained. But luckily there was enough space that Meilin didn't assume that they would get in anybody's way. Passing by a rack with training weapons, Meilin grabbed two practice blades. Handing one over to Mamoru, she would take a few steps to create a bit of distance.
"As I said, range is a possibility," Meilin said as she channeled chakra to form a coat over the dull blade. The distinct sound of pressurized energy being shaped and moulded would start to extend beyond the tip, doubling the range of her weapon with the chakra extension.

"But it's just one way how you can go at it." Meilin stated as she would let the chakra slowly fade away.

The young Senju was surprised when a clearly exhausted Meilin got on her feet and told him to follow her. Judged by everything she said and how she looked, she was planning on not doing anything for the remainder of the day. A bit in shock, Mamoru quickly stood up to which his ribs reminded him about his injury earlier. He told the drill instructor that it was nothing, but he had to grit his teeth for the remainder of the day to carry on. However any pain he felt was slowly starting to subside as he followed his Mentor a training are where a few persons were still trained by the instructor who worked with Mamoru that day. Scratching the back of his head, he took the blade from Meilin and listened carefully.

"I see. I think I understand, Sensei. My Dad did the same thing when he helped me to get proficient in Earth Release - he told me that I know the basics, and that the rest is up to my imagination and abilities. I feel like that with chakra flow as well. I - I think my Dad would like you a lot, Sensei." he said, giving Meilin a brief smile as he took the training blade from her. He took a few steps back as well and observed how Meilin coated her blade in her chakra and than doubled the range. Once again, he was amazed by the ease with which she performed the move. Increased range is something he saw a lot of use for in the future.

He grasped the blade firmly and lifted it, than focused his chakra in his hand and started to coat the blade in it. Since it was much larger than the knife, he had to put way more effort into it and his forehead wrinkled from it. He narrowed his eyes and the chakra flowed further along the blade, creating an almost even coat surrounding it. The edges were far from the smooth ones he saw on Meilin's attempt, but the coat was stable and that's what mattered the most. He then reached the edge of the blade and focused on maintaining the shape as he pushed his chakra further. The nails on his hand started to turn white from the strength of his grasp and the coat pushed further, resembling an extension of the blade he was holding. Gritting his teeth, the chakra slowly but steadily doubled the reach of his blade. The edges were jagged, as if wildly dancing in the air, but he had no doubt even this would be enough to cause a grievous to any foe caught in the extended range of his blade. The entirety of it was surrounded by a thin layer of his chakra and while it required a considerable effort to maintain it, he managed to do so.

"Range is always a good thing to have on your side. Against, let's say a pike, the extra range can mean a lot. Is - is this good enough, Sensei? "

Watching in silence as Mamoru attempted to coat the blade. It reminded of her own trouble and progress. In a way, it was weird to realise that she had been far worse than he was in terms of mastering the concept. Growing a tad happy that she had learned the value of patience, Meilin would respond on Mamoru's comment.
"It is good, mhm." Meilin stated after inspecting the coat. Sure, it could be better. But so could hers if she judged it to the likes of Suzu.

"Keep practicing and you will have it under good control under no time," Meilin flashed a friendly smile as giving a gentle pat on Mamoru's shoulder.
"It is good enough that we can attempt to move on to another step," planting the blunt 'tip' of the practice weapon into the dirt, Meilin leaned on the pommel of her dull blade. "You mention that range can mean a lot. That is true. A pike is considered less prestigious than a sword. When people think of a warrior hero, they think of somebody with a sword. Or axe or well, most weapons. But range can be the difference between life and death. That is what I was trying to say," an apologizing smile briefly surfaced as Meilin continued.

"So how about we try it. Make sure you stand firmly on your feet. Focus on the blade and," briefly the young woman halted as she seemed to got either an idea or remembered something. Gesturing Mamoru to wait, Meilin would quickly start walking away. After nearly a minute, she would be coming back while dragging a training dummy with her. Placing it next to her, Meilin patted on the dummy's bullseye.

"Focus on the blade to form the coat. Then try to touch the bullseye with the extended chakra." Giving a quick glance at the ground, Meilin decided to take a small distance and use her practice blade to form a line in the ground.
"Stand behind this line, the tip of the sword behind it. And try to grow the chakra coat towards the bullseye." Growing a bit excited with her own made up training, Meilin gestured to Mamoru to get ready.
"Make sure you focus on the chakra coat. Build it up in a slow pace."

Mamoru felt a slight sense of excitement and pride growing inside of him, but he quickly suppressed it as his wounds from it were still fresh. He slowly let the cloak pull back to just the blade, than let it dissipate. He let out a breath he had no idea he was holding and felt a distant, dull stab of pain in the area of his ribs. Ignoring it one more time, he listened to what Meilin had to say about his remark. Heroes and swords are indeed a combination that goes well together, and the increased distance can prolong the lifespan of a person sufficiently to become one. "I will continue, Sensei. I'm not sure how my tent mates might react to me sitting there with a blade that long. Worst case scenario, I'll train outside. " and shrugged at the thought. It was funnier in his head.

Mamoru was about to assume a stance when he spotted Meilin walking away, and he was puzzled. She was dragging a training dummy towards them and Mamoru thought they would practice some moves with the extended reach. But when Meilin stopped dragging the dummy some distance from them, Mamoru raised his eyebrows. He raised them even more when a line on the ground was drew and he was told to hit the bullseye from behind it. He was about to speak up about not being prepared for this, but he thought about how standing in one place and doing nothing would get you nowhere, unless you're a tree. He made a few steps towards the line and stood so that the tip of his blade was on the line. "I'll do my best, Sensei. Here I go!"

With his exclamation, he started to build up his chakra in his blade hand, until it was surrounded by a thick layer of his chakra. Narrowing his eyes, his face displayed his focus. He pushed it out and it spread out onto his blade, coating it, reaching the tip of it quickly. His forehead wrinkled as he pushed the chakra further and it reached double the distance of the blade, the feat he achieved a few minutes earlier. He tried to push further, but the chakra did not budge - it danced at the range he achieved and hummed loudly. He started to feel his hand vibrate with his chakra and was about to give up. He than glanced briefly at Meilin and saw how exhausted she was, yet satisfied with her training method. He could not leave it like this!

He gritted his teeth and let out a growl and his coat extended even further! It was unstable, dancing wildly with its jagged edges, but it moved! He pushed it further and further, and a few seconds that seemed like eternity to him the tip of his chakra coat pierced the bullseye sign on the dummy and he halted the flow of chakra into his hand, instead trying to maintain it. It took him an even more considerable effort than creating the coat. He imagined something akin to a barrier around the coat to keep it from dispersing and the edges, while still jagged and uneven seemed to settle down. He let a small smile appear on his lips and turned his head towards his Mentor.

Silently, Meilin observed Mamoru. The facial expression was blank, not hinting her curiosity if Mamoru would succeed. Yet, she wasn't sure if she wanted him to succeed. For maybe she was pushing him too hard with this small practice. On the other hand, she wanted him too. For it actually would feel like a victory for herself as well. Though she realised how selfish that could sound.
Moving her gaze to the chakra coat, she noticed that he had hit a dead end. His current limit that he had to push through or learn to build up. Else? It was his breaking point, she mused to herself. Despite assuming that Mamoru was reaching to his point of breaking down, he continued. A feat that was impressing Meilin, who continued to remain silent. After all, there was little that she could say to help him at this point.

Then the corner of her lips curled upwards. Spotting that the chakra started to touch the wooden bullseye, Meilin's stance seemed to loosen up a bit.
"You did it," she said, "not bad. If you keep it up like this, I will need to learn some more techniques to pass them on."

Gesturing that he should take it easy, Meilin glanced at the bullseye. It was hard to spot, so she decided to lean a bit towards the wooden plank that resembled the chest area of the dummy. Yet if one looked well enough, they could see a scratch.
"I do think this suffices for today. A good training requires a good rest."

Mamoru felt a certain sense of pride that would not go away no matter how hard he tried, but also did not distract him. Seeing how Meilin seemed satisfied with his results, and when she mentioned a good training, he realized he might have actually done a pretty good job. He was tempted to just let the cost disperse, but he decided against it. He slowly pulled his chakra back, from the dummy back to the tip of the blade, than back to his hand. As soon as his chakra dissipated from his hand, he let his hand drop and the tip of the blade burrowed into the ground. He leaned a bit against it and panted softly, his excitement now also accompanied by exhaustion. The pain from his ribs was now making itself felt. He looked at Meilin and gave her an exhausted smile.

"Thank - thank you, Sensei. I don't think I could go on for much longer. Talking about resting, I can almost feel the smell of my favorite tea I'm going to prepare for myself. You're free to join, if you like green tea with a lot of mint in it!"

Meilin considered the offer. But considering that she didn't have much other plans, she decided to give Mamoru her answer.
"Sure thing. Though water suffices for me. I am not really that fond of tea," Meilin said, "Try to keep your back straightened. Helps you to recover faster." The young woman advised as she would glance once more at the dummy.

"Well then, let us head back. Will be likely chilly again. Best to already light the fire." Despite her words, Meilin would patiently wait for Mamoru to catch his breath and walk back with her.

Mamoru gave a pained smile and listened to the advice. He straightened his back and while for a few seconds the pain was more present, but it slowly turned into a bearable one."Thank you for the advice. I'll bandage it before sleeping, hopefully it will be better tomorrow." A few seconds later, Mamoru lifted the training blade and walked up to Meilin, than towards they tent.

"You're right with the fire, Sensei. I used to spend a lot of evenings by bonfires with my family, where I listened go their stories. Sometimes, when we were alone, he told me stories he heard from my Grandpa about The First Hokage. I've been amazed by them all the time! I'm - I'm getting carried away again, I'm sorry." He blushed slightly, walking further.

Meilin threw a sideways glance as Mamoru spoke again. Slight amused as he reeled himself in, Meilin turned her gaze back at the direction they were heading.
"Go ahead. I am listening," she would respond, "After all, I fear that I don't have much grand tales about my own family. So, really, go wild."
Spotting the tent up ahead, Meilin would roll her shoulders before placing her hands behind her head.
"Only tales I ever heard about the First Hokage was what they taught at the Academy. I can't say that I was much intrigued by the tales of people that weren't involved with me or my goals."

Mamoru smiled as he was enticed to go further and mentioned her own family, and not knowing much about it. This made him a bit sad, but he decided he would try and do something - perhaps retelling some of the legends he heard about Lord First. "My dad told me that Lord First created the entire Leaf Village single handedly! He used his Wood Release to do it - they said that he was the only one who could use Mokuton! The forest in which he trained with me was supposedly planted in his honor and that he made the trees grow within seconds, and would spend a lot of his time there with the villagers! Imagine that, being in presence of Lord First! He listened to the people and they, in turn, loved him! " Mamoru than stretched his back a bit and closed his eyes, imagining what it could have been to be in his presence!

"People thought about him as The Will of Fire in a physical form! Legends say he defeated even the Tailed Beasts! His prowess was unmatched and renowned in the entirety of the world! His greatest confrontation is said to have turned an entire mountain range into a valley! He did it by summoning a wooden avatar that dwarfed even the Hokage monument! He did it by himself! The battle supposed to last an entire day, twenty four hours of fighting without a pause! When the fight was over, he returned to find the entire village waiting for him! His armor was torn to shreds, he was beaten, scarred, but the second he saw the village safe and unharmed, a brilliant smile spread on his lips! He even thanked the villagers! He thanked them for thinking about him, which they all did! Lord First claimed that his love for the village is what gave him the strength and resolve he needed so much! " Mamoru did not realize what he was talking about, or the way he did. Then he calmed down a bit and stopped daydreaming. "Now I know from history classes that some of the legends are just that. But - these tales inspired me so much! I wanted to be like Lord First! And I - I still want to be like him! I want to be strong so I can protect my family, my friends, my team, my village and my Empire! I'm not sure whether I can do it or not, or whether it is even possible to be that strong. But I am determined to do everything I can to achieve that! "

Walking next to Mamoru, Meilin remained silent. If anything, she was more than okay with not talking and just listening. In truth, she also didn't care much for the First Hokage. While she was aware of the man's impact on the nation's history, she had little connection to the man. If anything, she still felt first Cho and then Akinian. More Cho Guard than shinobi. But she knew better than to just state either those thoughts or doubts. Many tales went on how past leaders were so benevolent and great but for now, it was good that Mamoru had such faith and source of inspiration.

Upon hearing Mamoru's dream, Meilin remained silent. It was probably nice to have such aspirations and she didn't want to break them apart. For she knew better than that would be an easy goal. Not just to become so incredibly powerful but also that chances were small that certain clans or groups would set aside the past. The Senju wouldn't either be loyal or as thankful to a Cho as to one of their own as vice versa.
It made her think briefly of Kensuke and that once more brought up some previous doubts. Throwing a glance at Mamoru, she couldn't help but wonder if she had given the Nimatsu more faith how things would turn out to be.

"Good. Then I will try to do what I can to help you get started," Meilin replied, a soft but tired smile crossing her features, "though, let us first settle down."
Arriving at their tent, Meilin would release a sigh. Settling down on the improvised stool of a tree trunk, the young woman would throw a look at the sky. It was getting darker but a soft hue of light on the horizon meant that it wasn't as late as she suspected.
"So, Mamoru, do you have like siblings?" Meilin asked as she would glance at the place where the fire had been sparked before. Luckily she had been able to gather some wood before. Placing the wood in the small wooden circle where past fires had been lit, Meilin brought her right hand close to one of the cut wood. Moulding a small bit of chakra and transforming it with little effort into fire chakra, Meilin proceeded to snap her fingers. The action conjured some sparks that fell on the wood. Two more fast snaps saw to it that a fire started to grow, slowly consuming the wood.

Mamoru remained silent after he finished his speech, or babbling about the First Hokage and his childish dream. He full well understood how naive it was to talk about something like this in his age. He blushed a bit and looked up to the sky as they approached Meilin's tent. She then told him how she would help him get started on his path to his childhood dream, and that question, despite being said in a rather gently fashion, defeaned him for a moment. Meilin Sensei did took his dream that seriously? He looked at her, his eyes glowing slightly and he quickly shook his head to remain composed.

"I - I thank you, Sensei. I mean, I thank you a lot - a lot more than I can express in mere words!"Mamoru had that weird nudge to just hug her, but realizing that would be out of place, he settled for a warm smile. He remained standing there for a few seconds after that, just staring as Meilin sat down, only to be brought back into reality when asked about siblings. He moved over to the tree upon which she was and joined her, staring at the fireplace. "No, Sensei. I'm an only child. I have two cousins that we were close with. Once we all started to attend the Academy, we grew a bit apart, but we still saw each other every now and then. My mum and dad really kept me occupied, but sometimes they would take them with us to train together in the forests. We would train for most of the day, just like here and either go home or spend the night out, near a fire, just like we do now." Mamoru than observed how Meilin lit up the wood with just snapping her fingers a couple of times. Her chakra control really is something to aspire, he thought for himself. The fire slowly burned the tree and a few gentle breezes of wind swept through the camp, their fire dancing with the wind. He did not want it to go out for some reason, perhaps it being a part of him feeling a bit nostalgic. He moulded some chakra into his palm and placed it onto the ground, and a moment later a wall with holes in it rose to a height of a few centimeters above the ground, to cover the fire without smothering it. He then looked at Meilin. "If I may ask, Sensei - what about you? Do you have siblings?"

Flashing a smile as he thanked her, simply for stating she would support his dream, Meilin wanted to state he shouldn't thank her yet. But it felt good to know that she could do some good, even in spite of the current situation. With the warmth of the fire spreading and driving the cold back, Meilin would be content with listening to Mamoru as he spoke about his family. She could briefly recall times when she had silently wished she had been single child. But now? She couldn't imagine her life without her siblings.
"Sounds like you have some great parents, Mamoru," Meilin stated as he would ask her about her siblings. The fact that Meilin remained silent for a second wasn't because it was a touchy subject. She just pondered briefly on how to explain it.

"I am the oldest of the pack," she said, a faint hint of a smirk crossing her lips, "probably the most stubborn and worst of the entire bunch. Let us see," the young woman moved her gaze from the fire and try to get a look at the darkening sky. But dark clouds prevented much sight upon the stars.
"The second youngest is Okakuro Cho. He is around six years younger than me. Then we have Atsumichi. Probably the most energetic of us all." The fact caused Meilin to scoff lightly and shake her head. "Irene follows..."

A brief silence seemed to return, plaguing the atmosphere. Meilin's eyes seemed to harden as the soft features of relaxation ebbed away under the emotions that followed the memories.
"Too smart of her own good, I would say," Meilin simply stated about Irene, "Hitomo is the princess of the group. And that is all of my siblings."

Remaining silent as he now listened, eagerly. He was curious to learn more about Meilin, as she was still rather an enigma for him. He took every single word in. Meilin was not a single child like he was, so she understood it perfectly what he meant when he said he wanted to protect those precious to him. He was so taken in by her words that, at first he completely missed how the atmosphere changed towards the end of her words. He noticed quickly that he touched a very sensitive subject and he wanted to apologize, somehow make things better for her. He felt so helpless, so useless at this moment, but with a heavy sigh he realized that there was nothing he could do, not with all the jutsu in the world.

He looked at Meilin and gave her a sincere, honest smile."If you - If I may, Meilin Sensei. I think that they have the best older Sister that they can have. I - I would love to have an older sister like you. I… " and he blinked a few times, than he seemed to look at Meilin, yet at the same time behind her. "I think very highly about you, Sensei. And I am sure so do your siblings. I want you to know that wherever will this deployment take… I'll be there, right behind you. I cannot think about any way I could possibly help you, but I will." Mamoru wasn't sure whether any of this made sense, or it would really be of any help, but he meant it with the best of intentions.

Meilin shot Mamoru a glance as he stated that her siblings had the best older sister. She highly doubted for she hadn't always been selfless. A wrinkle crossed her nose bridge as she shook her head lightly.
"Thanks. I appreciate it. Though you got to forgive me. I am rather bad with compliments. as for helping me out? Don't worry about it."
The vague 'reassurance' was briefly echoed by silence.
"If you do your part when we touch down on the east, then that should suffice. After all, you shouldn't focus on getting just me out of the hot zone. But yourself as well."

Mamoru felt bad for saying his last few words. It was more of a sensitive subject than he thought. He wanted to take it back, but there was no way. "I understand, Sensei. It's just - I am the kind of person who wants to help others around him. With everything. Even with things I am sure they would manage to do better without me. And better." he replied briefly. He looked away for a moment. He felt very uncomfortable in silence. He felt like he should nat say what he was going to say, but he went ahead to say it anyway."Don't be too harsh on yourself in this aspect, Sensei. You've come further already than some of our peers ever will. You deserve all the praise that comes towards you."

Meilin doubted that he understood. He had no siblings, so she figured that he just said it to be kind. Staying silent, Meilin listened as Mamoru seemed to weigh his next words. Throwing a glance at the Senju, Meilin decided to respond in return.
"Your words are kind. But don't think too highly of me yet. You have what?" Meilin introduced a small pause, "Been under my tutelage for barely a few months. Give it some more before you continue to make my ego grow out of bounds."
After her response, Meilin looked at a small group of soldiers that passed them by.
"It is probably a good idea to get some rest. Likely got a busy day ahead of us."

He pushed it too far. He knew it and he was sorry for it, but it was too late to take those words back now. He felt dumb and awkward now and wanted to apologize, but Meilin politely ended their discussion. He looked at the group of passing soldiers as well and he felt an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He turned to Meilin and gave her a small smile, the glow from his eyes a bit dim. "I-I understand, Sensei. That is a good idea. Thank you for the training today. G-good night!" he replied as he stood up. As he straightened his back, he realized he was really exhausted and if Meilin's words were right, tomorrow will be exhausting as well. And Mamoru knew that she will be right. "I don't know about you, Sensei, but I feel like a few more weeks and I'll stop feeling this exhaustion." he said, turning towards her for a moment. "Good night, Meilin Sensei!" he added as he bowed his head slightly and turned to walk towards his tent, his eyes gazing towards the sky.

Back from the Dead
[ Yumi Hasewaga | Scholae ]
[ Konohagakure, capital of the Akinian Empire | Somewhere in the city's centre. ]

Staring down, Yumi wasn't sure about her emotions. Which was perhaps odd for somebody that hadn't undergone the same experiences and training that she had gone through. For somebody that had an extensive amount of control over her emotions, it was strange to be unsure of what she was feeling.
Sorrow, guilt, disappointment and yet feeling at peace how things had gone. If anything, most of the negatively loaded emotions were aimed at her. But Yumi didn't blame herself or her shortcomings too harshly. Despite the frustration and emotions, she could give them a place and attempt to face them later. Much like she had done before in more hectic situations.

While Yumi hadn't experienced many interactions with Sakamoto Senju, he had been the first to teach her that her kekkei genkei wasn't a curse. It did not define her personality nor her future. It was simply a part of her but not what mattered.
Perhaps it was a bit strange for many but just because of that Sakamoto had been the only mentor that she had known during her career in the military. Kanajiro Hanamoto had proven to be incompetent in leadership and mentorship, fixated at his own attempt to gain renown and else envy at all others. The older ANBU that she had served with hadn't done more than just directed missions.
No, if there had been one that she could even remotely accept as the man who had taught her the most valuable lessons, it had been Sakamoto.

Only now Sakamoto wasn't among the living anymore. Apparently, some lunatic from the Wind country had ended his life. The strange and sudden event had transpired during her own time within the Ghost ANBU, during which she hadn't really ever thought or worried much about Sakamoto. The chance that some madman from another country would come after an ex-Hokage guard was something she considered small.

For a moment, the train of thoughts of Yumi was disrupted as a thought pierced through. A mere whisper but loud enough to halt all of Yumi's thoughts. Cause while she had seen the man as her mentor, what he had thought of her? Had he seen her as a pupil? Or just an acquaintance? Maybe not even that but just a person that he had given his viewpoint.
The bitter reality that she wouldn't know in this life made her frustration grow and become intenser.

Inhaling slowly, Yumi closed her eyes briefly. Slowly, almost like it was a serious ceremonial act, the woman would kneel in front of the gravestone. Closing her right hand, she would mould some chakra.

"Rest in peace, Sakamoto-san," Yumi whispered as she carefully would open the palm of her hand. Allowing gently for a small crystal flower to be placed in front of the stone gravestone.
Rising up, Yumi threw a look at the gravestone. Then resolutely, the woman turned around and walked away.

Watching the establishment from a distance, Yumi was biting her lower lip. Deep in thought, she had made sure that she didn't stand in anybody's way. And luckily, she had never enjoyed much fame or renown as everybody treated her just the way she was comfortable with: with apathy. Everybody treated each other with a neutral stance as they continued on to their own destination. Whether it be work or something else.

The establishment was a small store, dwarfed by the surrounding stores in size and decorations in wood and stone. It gave a humble appearance among the other establishments that attempted to attract attention and allure potential patrons inside.
Yet, rumour had it that the owner of the small store wasn't just a young man that earned his living with an extraordinary craft. But that he had been taught and mentored by the Empress before her ascension to the throne. There were other rumours that were spoken when the establishment's name was brought up. Or in any case, the surname of Hasewaga seemed to be connected to a young man that earned his craft with creating and moulding sculptures. The forms of art that he produced were special because they were made out of crystal. Yet, nobody seemed to be aware of where the young man could amass so much of the material or how he could refine it into delicate forms and pieces, all to the wishes of his patrons.

Wanting to muster some courage, Yumi couldn't move herself to the front door and see if Leo was at work. Pushing her back off the wall, Yumi would cast the hood over her head.

"As fearless as I was in dead, as hesitant I am with being back among the living", she mused to herself while creating more distance between herself and Leo's store.

Operation Deadly Haze
[ Eastern continent | Wolf Country | Near the allied camps ]
[ Combined allied force | A collab between @GlitchyBugger , @Oetje , @Jason Targaryen and @Lesli | One of the teams that is send to investigate the surrounding. This team is send to do some investigation into the nearby town, to figure out some matters. While they learn that the inhabitants aren't hostile to them, some answers remain unanswered. ]

Though she wasn't entirely content with the current situation or fact that she was supposed to lead a band of allied operatives into the unknown urban centre, Saki's mood wasn't too foul. This mission required to gain intel about the locals, various important sites and other matters that could benefit the allied force. Which meant that wearing full armour and being armed to the teeth didn't bring much merit with it. For this operation, she would just resolve to some clothes that were comfortable to wear and could offer some protection against the cold.

Her only weapons would be four concealed knives, seeing it wasn't clear on how the locals would react to them. And seeing that she was aware that she was tasked to lead a small unit of Lightning operatives, Saki already didn't have high expectations that it would go entirely smooth. Or in any case, not that smooth that they could hide that they were foreigners.
After being certain that she had everything she needed, Saki would head towards the meeting point. It was near one of the slopes of the tall, flat hill where the allied camps were positioned, leading towards the city of their destination.

Niji was part of another reconnaissance mission, much different compared to the previous one seeing as they were investigating a nearby city and causing as little trouble as possible. There was a slight expectation on her part that there would still be some kind of confrontation if only because of the fact that people within the city wont be quick to trust outsiders, all things considered.

Prior to her arrival she double checked the bandaging around her leg, she no longer had to favour her steps due to the gash on her thigh but she needed to make sure it was still secure. She also sealed her sword within a seal in the inner sleeve of her clothing, opting to wear something that wasn't armour and was more weather appropriate, much like the leader of the mission had. Arriving at the meeting point she'd find just Saki Yamanaka at the moment. "Niji Yakei, present and ready."

Mizuchi wasn't entirely certain what really set her up as being the best for a scouting mission. Sure, she could use sensory style techniques, but she was much more a fighter than anything else. Either way, she wasn't going to be one to argue with orders. The girl sealed her sword into a small scroll, that way she could recover it later should she need it for a fight. Opting to dress in some clothing that would help protect in cold, she wished she could have also brought her armor. Yet that much was simply impractical.

Moving quickly out towards the meeting the point, Mizuchi wondered what their mission was going to be like. Particularly how the foreigners were going to treat them, which she was expecting to be much less than stellar. She especially wanted to avoid going into some sort of ambush again like they had when Yumeji led them on that previous mission. "Mizuchi Hojo, reporting in."

To prepare for today's operation didn't take long, not as per usual. Garbed without armour or armed to the teeth, Yumeji had a shoulder bag that had some rations. Her only armament was a small knife that she had sheathed in a scabbard, the holster being at her hip for a quick draw. There was some curiosity as the formed squad was going to be led by an Imperial. Instead of pondering on what could go wrong or all the possible problems with interacting with a perhaps murderous native population, Yumeji was wondering how much different they operated from the Imperial operatives and military. She half expected one of those Imperial Chonobi but when she arrived, she couldn't detect a patch of fur.
Then again, had Miu ever worn any kind of fur patch?

"Yumeji of the Hojo clan," she would begin to introduce herself, giving a small bow with her head towards Saki. Truth be told, she wasn't sure if Yamanaka was a sort of Imperial surname or even a clan name. But it wasn't yet the time or the place to ask such things.

Saki waited but didn't need to hold out long before the operatives of the Lightning army arrived. Subtly, the Yamanaka eyed each one of them. Luckily, it seemed that they all understood what kind of mission this was and didn't bring any heavy gear or visible weapons - such as swords, axes, maces, spears and whatever they likely used on more combat-active situations.
"I am Saki Yamanaka," she would begin once they all arrived and introduced themselves. "As much as you have been briefed in, our goal is to gather intel. Preferably about strategic locations, resources and the like. I know some Rén, which can help us communicate with the locals. But before we go, I do want to go over the rules of conduct for this mission," the Yamanaka began, her tone polite but holding a modicum of seriousness in it.

"From earlier scouting operations, the locals aren't that keen on outsiders. To prevent that we are going to deal with a lot of angry locals that know the land better than us, we ought to be polite and preferably not involve ourselves too much with them. Any aggressive stance against the locals will be directly punished without questioning." She would slowly, almost lazily, move her gaze across the three Northerners. "We won't bring up any military protocol. If anything, we want to blend in and don't catch too much attention. All that matters is that we get in, get the information and get out. Don't stray away, cause that will make you a liability. And I believe that neither our commanders will be willing to send forces to recover a wandering kunoichi into the area. Any questions?"
Before any of them could answer, Saki nodded. "Good. Then we move out." With a resolute motion, the Yamanaka turned around on her heels and started to walk, heading towards the nearby settlement.

The walk would be taking some hours though, forcing the small group to trudge through the thick snow and passing the foliage that had shed their leaves. Despite the discomfort, there seemed to be a certain tranquility present in the area. The peaceful silence would, however, not last forever as the group started to close distance on the small city.
Arriving at the perimeter, the city lacked any man-made defenses. There was no fortifications as high, stout walls that could prevent hostiles from moving in. A few small towers were present but some symbols were adorning the top of the towers. Either implying that they could be used for lookout towers or were used for religious purposes. Such as what they did in some areas in the Wind country, Saki mused as she glanced at the structures.
The people that they could spot were dressed in garbs that gave away their status as commoners. The quality and colour of their garbs were in a way similar to what the small group was used back at home. Small differences were easy to spot but one could certainly have one of these people wander in a city like Kumogakure or Konohagakure, without falling out of tune with most people there.

"Hm," Saki came to a halt as she continued to lead the group further through the outskirts of the city. "This is where it is getting tricky," she said, throwing a look over her shoulder. "I believe it is best if we go to the local market. Perhaps try to figure out who is actually in charge of this place."

Listening to Saki, Yumeji would just nod to emphasise that she understood. There was nothing that really made her question or wonder about the operation. Chances were very slim that anybody could phrase it even simpler than this Yamanaka had done.
Following Saki towards the town, Yumeji did glance around. The architecture and people oddly didn't seem to be much different than what she was accustomed to. There were both clear and subtle differences but not enough to feel she was in a complete different world.

Hearing the suggestion of Saki, Yumeji nodded.
"Probably would be best," she said, considering something, "though best if we do keep our guard up. In case of pickpockets." The Hojo stated, a ghost of a smile appearing on her lips.

Quietly Niji observed the outskirts of the city, making mental notes herself on what the group could see, briefly giving her own nod in response to the suggestions. She didn't have anything in particular to add herself, so she looked between the other members of the group and got herself ready to move.

Mizuchi wasn't typically the one who went out on scouting missions such as this, but remained quiet on the subject. Instead she quietly listened in to both her sister and Saki. She nodded in agreement with the other two, not having much to add herself as she simply got ready to move much like Niji was doing next to her. Though she first scanned the place before them, looking to see if there was any glaring detail that called out interest to her or a possible threat.

The hours slipped by slowly as the group continued in the settlement. There wasn't much that they could found at first glance other than what many likely already expected to find. Refugees from nearby areas that had decided to seek some form of shelter in the 'safety' of the city's confines. The sight of so many people being desperate, upset, wary and all cramped up in squalor was a pretty depressing sight to behold.

Yet as the small group pressed on, they would learn more about the city and how it was governed these days. A small council of low born nobles and merchants were deciding the city's fate. And while there had been attempts to manage the growing chaos, the city's council lacked the resources as trained folk to keep enough peace to organise everything properly. Resulting in what could only be described as a near collapse of the city's infrastructure and other bad impacts. Food wasn't cheap as it was becoming scarce and the winter cold was apparently already claiming the old, infirm and very young.

Serving as a translator, Saki was both confused and slightly worried. Not because of the reality that they were confronted with. She had seen similar matters before and frankly? She couldn't care about these people. To her, her socks were of more value. What had her worried and confused was the fact that the large force could have sweeped in and taken control. Why hadn't they? What was the purpose to drive people to one spot and let them be there?
Unable to conjure any reasoning, Saki did keep the thoughts to herself.

"I believe that there isn't much to learn. Unless any of you have a suggestion, I propose that we head back to the allied camps. And then report to our respective commanders."

Mizuchi was pretty well in agreement with the Yamanaka whenever she suggested that they head back to their allied camps. She was on edge as well, having similar worries to those of the Yamanaka in her mind. Though she worried this to be some sort of trap, perhaps to try to lure them in? She guessed it would serve well as one, bring in their forces to try to 'help' these people for appearances then cause an ambush. Though she was uncertain about if the enemy really thought that far ahead. Still, this and a few other ideas coursed through her mind as an uneasy feeling about the whole situation sat firmly in her gut.

Much aligned with the worries of Saki and Mizuchi, Yumeji had questions of her own. Though she was content that the locals didn't pose a direct threat, it wasn't entirely certain to her if they could be relied upon. The differences in language, habits and traditions alone already formed one obstacle. Perhaps it would lead to just more blood shedding?
"Might be for the best to head back and report our findings." Yumeji replied back, hoping that Kaya hadn't experienced any troubles on her assignment.

With a short nod, Niji seemed in agreement with the others and added a simple "No immediate suggestions, only a few suspicions." in comment to what was likely a lingering thought amongst the group.

►Yukimi Yuki◄
►Team: Team 11 Chuunin
►Location: Shigaa City Barracks
►Interactions: Yukimi Yuki

Yukimi had always been a rather light sleeper, so she was already halfway awake by the time that Nishi decided to wake up the rest of the time. Which more or less made actually waking up rather easy. As they were all handed their gear, Yukimi felt a bit saddened that she wouldn't be able to choose her outfit. Although not a complaint came from her, as the girl knew they were still very much in a military unit and that meant she wouldn't really get to choose her own look most of the time. She was able to get ready quick enough, though apparently she hadn't done everything to Nishi's liking, as there were still small details pointed out about her. Which grated against Yukimi, given that she had a rather good eye for detail but still apparently missed something here and there. Whatever, it was not something worth pursuing.

Following the group out, Yukimi was told to run laps for the details Nishi had noticed. The Chuunin gave a simple nod before heading off to run the assigned laps. The girl made sure to keep a steady pace as she completed the laps, trying to keep even breaths to ensure that she wasn't too tired out for whatever was planned next for them. Afterall, she honestly doubted that Nishi planned on taking pity on the team, ever. Despite trying to be less... how she had been, the chuunin did not exactly have a terribly high opinion of Nishi still and expected her to try to torture the team. After finishing the laps, slightly out of breath, she moved quickly to take aim at the free dummy. Throwing shuriken at the dummy, she managed to hit the target. Although the weapons were not perfectly on target, hitting away from the center. This being a result of the fact Yukimi had practiced her ninjutsu more than other skills. Though her shuriken skills were still above the average genin, Yukimi wasn't performing as flawlessly at shuriken usage as the average chuunin with her level of experience.

An Jarl's Answer
[ Lightning Country - Sanosuke Heartlands | Yngvar, the seat of Jarl Aldvar ]
[ A collab between @Aliceee and @Lesli | Iri moves further north, in attempt to engage in diplomacy with the clans of the Lightning country. One of the largest obstacles are the Sanosuke to the far North. Aware of the dangers, Iri still presses on. Even despite the fierce reputation of the Hyrling folk.
(the Chonobi name for Sanosuke is 'Hyrling', )

The trek to the north was anything but easy or comfortable. With the winter season raging across the world, it seemed that the cold had particular favour to torment those within the Lightning country. And the further north one would venture, the more troublesome it would get. Over several points and moments was Iri's group forced to dismount and guide their mounts, trudging through the snow. All the while the looming mountain range seemed already hostile, their snow-white tips covered in clouds and mysterious fog.

Aware that the passes would be heavily guarded and patrolled, Iri made no illusion that she could get through without any hostile engagements. Deciding to venture a more diplomatic engagement, she would continue leading the small group further to the mountain range. There were several passages that went into the rugged area. Most were not wider than allowing three riders to ride next to one another.
The group's speed was significantly slower as they were forced over the trek to climb the road. When they finally did close in distance to the base of the mountain pass that Iri wanted to take, she decided to order the group to stay behind. Moving out on her own, Iri didn't know the exact defences that were in place or how many troops the Sanosuke had deigned necessary to hold this particular pass. But she was aware of how to 'surrender' to the Sanosuke warriors.

Walking into a narrow pass, she had the ominous feeling that she was being watched. Not just by a few pair of eyes but as if the mountains themselves had decided to lean and observe her every movement. Slowly the woman raised her hands as she continued to brave the cold and path alone. Then out of nowhere, several projectiles would land nearby - closer than Iri felt comfortable with.

Travelling further north, Iri had almost forgotten the beauty that laid behind the mountain ranges that separated the Sanosuke clans from the rest of the Lightning. The rugged beauty of untouched nature made her gain a certain understanding of why the Sanosuke folk was so staunch to call themselves the real Northerners.
Guided towards her destination, Iri hoped to reach Jarl Adlvar of Yngvar. Quick enough to realise a united front against the Regency council before their spark of hope would be lost.

Reaching the city, Iri was only allowed to bring one companion with her. Picking out an ex-ANBU that had retired and accepted to guide her on this journey, Iri felt comfortable with his presence. And beside Gavin's competence in combat, he knew when it of paramount importance to stay silent and let others do the talking.
Under the guidance of the warriors of Yngvar, both Iri and Gavin would be escorted to the jarl's fortress. The glances that folk gave them was anything but hospitable. One old man spat on the ground and muttered a curse as they passed him. Iri simply ignored the looks and continued to follow the instructions of their Sanosuke escort.

Once within the defences of the jarl's fortress, they would be handed over to some of Jarl Aldvar's hirdmen, his own elite forces within the city. Though they were anything but polite, Iri was happy that none of them had decided to lash out or challenge them. Unsure if Gavin could even understand them, Iri certainly wouldn't let on that she could follow their conversations. The majority of what she could catch were insults at their address. But she did catch a few interesting bits of something else.

The room that they were brought to was what one could call 'decent'. It had a warm atmosphere in it, much more comfortable than any holding cell or prison. A servant even came in to offer them some refreshments together with some bread and salt - signalling that the jarl acknowledged them as true guests under his roof. Which Iri was most thankful for, cause it meant that they wouldn't be harmed unless the jarl's honour would be challenged.

Waiting, minutes started to pass by. Though tempted to pace around in the room, Iri just sat silently. Throwing a subtle glance at Gavin, the man seemed quite unaffected. He had eaten some of the refreshments as accepted the bread and salt, on Iri's whispered instruction. Moving her gaze to the door, all they could do was now wait until they could have an audience with either the jarl or somebody of his choosing.

A servant finally came to guide them to where they would meet the jarl. Having served jarl Aldvar in the past, Iri found some comfort in recognizing the way to the throne room. Sighting the double door entrance, guarded by a dozen warriors, Iri threw a glance towards Gavin. Nearly unnoticeable, the ex-ANBU made a nod to signal back.
No words were necessary for the two to know what was required of both of them.

The doors were opened for Iri and Gavin as they entered a spacious hall. The hall was filled with banners that hang from the ceiling, bearing the mark of the jarldom of Yngvar. Courtiers were standing and clearly waiting, making way for Iri and Gavin to approach the other end of the hall. There, the jarl sat on his throne. Perched on an elevation, the man calmly observed the two approaching his place.
As the two approached the base of the elevation, on which the jarl sat on his throne, guards crossed their spears to bar further entrance.

Silence started to plague the hall until it was jarl Aldvar who broke the uneasy silence.

"The Silent Raven," the man said slowly in his own language, "last when we met, you left my service in friendship. Tell me, have you come as a friend or envoy from an enemy?"

Iri made a deep bow, which was quickly followed by Gavin as well. Raising her bow and straightening her back, Iri flashed a polite smile. "My good jarl of Yngvar. Indeed, when I left your service, I did it as a friend. And once more, I have returned as a friend to seek both your council and aid. For dire times are upon the North."

The response of Iri caused some whispering and mumbling, raised from the courtiers that were present. Jarl Aldvar simply and subtly rose his right hand to silence his courtiers before he responded back. "Good. Then if you returned as a friend, I shall provide you with some council. If you will be able to answer me why you came from the south, from the Hojo heartlands."

Making a bow with her head as jarl Aldvar stated he would provide council, Iri would show any hesitation to provide a response in turn. "It is true that I traveled to you, through the Hojo heartlands, my good jarl. For I am intending to bring the folk and clans together to unify the country. Not just the Taika nor just the Hyrlings. But all of them."

Jarl Aldvar seemed intrigued as well slightly amused as he leaned a bit forward. "Tell me, Silent Raven, have you some ambition to become the next ruler of the North?" The jarl asked, a silence echoing after his question.

Iri flashed a warm smile. "I fear that my ambitions are less grand, my good jarl. For neither my blood or lineage is as noble as yours." Making a small and graceful bow, Iri would continue afterwards. "Nay, I came to negotiate to bring the Hyrling clans to join the Raikage's side. To prevent unnecessary bloodshed between those who oppose the true enemy."

The response caused more of a reaction from the courtiers. Some of them grumbled and mumbled, clearly seeing some sense. The majority, however, seemed far from buying Iri's words. A few of them muttered something that Iri couldn't quite catch but was sure that they wouldn't mind to string her up as a sacrifice to their Gods. Perhaps it was good that Gavin didn't understand Chonobi, Iri mused to herself.

Jarl Aldvar remained silent, his gaze locked on Iri as he seemed to ponder on something. As his courtiers became rowdier, it once more took a simple gesture from the jarl to silence them. "Your words honour me and my kin, Silent Raven. I have yet to forget your previous deeds. Your service in the past lends you credit, I will say that. But," a frown started to move on the jarl's brow, "you speak of cohesion. Why should I let my folk bleed for the needs of those southerners? Those who see as nothing but second-rate citizens or unworthy of praise?"

Iri had forseen that would be brought up. "You are correct to question me, my jarl. You and your people have been treated wrongly for too long. As such, I will promise you that this will be set right. You have my oath and life, jarl Aldvar." Iri responded, bowing her head. "All in return is that I ask you will help me to bring the other jarls together. So that we may strike down the Regency and restore what always should have been. Respect to the Hyrlings and giving them a rightful place among the councils to be."

The words of Iri caused the courtiers to remain silent, their attention shifting to their jarl. Aldvar's facial expression was, however, neutral. There was no indication if the man would agree or disagree. And the silence that followed Iri's answer certainly was unnerving, causing some courtiers to cough or shuffle their weight from one leg to the other.

"Silent Raven," jarl Aldvar began, "I will agree to this offer. I will aid you in unifying the other jarls. I will bear no steel to the Raikage or those who submitted to this fledgeling alliance of yours. But only if the Hyrlings will be allowed to mind their own affairs. No Taika or outsider of our clans shall whip us with impunity. We will be allowed to form our own laws, without interference from any future lord that is set on the throne. Add this to your proposal, Silent Raven, and you have acquired me as your ally."

Iri considered making a counter-offer. The fact was, however, that she had little to bargain with. Understanding her current situation well enough, Iri remained bowed.
"Yes, my good jarl. I shall accept your suggestions and see to it that they shall be fulfilled. You have both my word and life as a guarantee."

"Then rise, Silent Raven. For we are now bonded in this new alliance to crush the Regency. May the Gods bless our cause or see to it that we gain a worthy death!"

Caderyn's Diplomacy
[ Lightning Country - Jun Clan Heartlands | City of Okino ]
[ A collab between @Gerontis and @Lesli | The commander of the Yakimara warband moves with a detachment to the city of Okino. Following on the information that Suzu, the Sworn Sword, had acquired, commander Caderyn decides to get entrance to the Jun-governed city.

Looking at the defences, Caderyn silently cursed the Sworn Sword. The walls weren't manned by a pathetic lot of infants, childeren or women folk. From his position on the hill, he was able to make use of a handheld telescope. Viewing the various sections of defences, Caderyn could see the professional force of soldiers and shinobi that were ready to rebuke any hostile force.
Lowering the telescope, Caderyn was certain that his force couldn't capture the city of Okino with force. They lacked the numbers and siege equipment. At the moment, they could just witness and observe the city's defences.

"Commander," a voice called out, causing Caderyn to throw a glance to the right. Seeing an officer on horseback approaching, Caderyn gestured to the man to speak up. "Some of the boys have managed to find a few peasants. On your orders, we have not harmed them but simply detained them. But none of them are able to give information on to bypass the defences."

He wasn't surprised about that the local peasants working the fields and area outside Okino weren't able to be of much aid. "Release them, at once. No need to get the Jun clan or her subjects to grow hostile to our presence." Caderyn instructed, causing the officer to nod and steer his mount to gallop from the direction he came from.
Turning his attention back at the defences, Caderyn wondered about how he should approach the situation. An approach with force was out of question. But Caderyn wasn't entirely sure if diplomacy would allow them to gain what they wanted.

Spitting on the ground, the man muttered a curse at Suzu's address before he turned around.

The hooves would throw up dirt and snow as the horses carried their riders closer to the main gate of Okino. Leading a small unit, Caderyn didn't seem intimidated by the tall stone fortifications. Nor by the amount of folk that manned the walls, aiming their weapons at him and his retinue. Approaching the gate, Caderyn finally threw a look up. Then he started with raising his voice to make sure that he would be heard.

"People of Okino. I am commander Caderyn of the 18th Imperial brigade. As you can see," he gestured to the man at his side, bearing the flag with the Imperial Akinian crest, "I am not serving the Regency or the Raikage. I am no enemy to any of you. We come to in peace and desire to protect the good folk of Okino from the ravage that this damned civil war is about to bring down on you!"

It remained silent as no response came from the defenders. It irritated Caderyn as he was aware that a response wouldn't come right away. But if he would, then he would have his sword bury its sharp bite deep into Suzu's neck. Before Caderyn could flesh out his desires silently of punishing the damned Sworn Sword, he heard something.

The large gate in front of Caderyn's men would open slightly. Through the opening, a number of soldiers poured out, flanked by a few shinobi and what appeared to be a man in charge - evident by the difference in gear and attitude.

"Commander Caderyn," the man, that seemed to lead the Jun unit that moved outside their defences, spoke up with a stern voice, "you say that you hail from the Empire. But what guarantee do we have that this isn't a trick of either the Raikage alliance or the Regency council?" The man gestured to the flag. "What guarantee do we have that you as your men are truly from the Empire?"

Caderyn grunted softly as he let the question of the Jun captain sink down. "You would question the honour of her Imperial Majesty? I would advise caution, Jun. Her Imperial Majesty's banner can provide much needed protection from both the Regency as the Raikage. Other than that, I highly doubt that either the Regency or Raikage would consider to anger her Imperial Majesty by using her honour for their own deception. Wouldn't you agree, Jun?"

The Jun in leadership of the conversation seemed to ponder on Caderyn's words. He glanced quickly at the present Yakimara riders before turning his attention fully on Caderyn again. "Then tell me, commander Caderyn, why do you seek access to the city of Okino? What have my clan and folk done to earn your sympathy?"

Caderyn's expression remained calm as he kept his mount still. "To be fair, Jun, not a lot. However, we are looking for a good location to serve as an outpost. The Regency doesn't dare to bar our way and the Raikage invited us into this conflict. As things stand, it is most vital for my force to gain access to a decent port. So that we may get better contact with our Imperial homeland. I have heard that the Jun clan is one of honour and virtue. Am I mistaken by coming to Okino and expecting honourable as virtious men, Jun?"

The Jun raised his chin, clearly not fond of his honour being questioned. Yet, he didn't display any grown hostility towards Caderyn and his men. "The Jun clan is the most honourable clan you shall find in the North, Imperial. Though let us assume that you indeed are given entrance to the city. How will you protect us and what will you demand in return?"

Calmly staring down on the Jun, Caderyn let his mount take a few steps forward before he delivered his answer. "We will safeguard Okino like if it is an Imperial city, Jun. In return? We will have to discuss that once you allow me and my forces inside. Fret not, however, we are not interested to subdue any of you to rightful, Imperial rule."

Negotiations would be exchanged several times. Caderyn wasn't a big fan of the talks with the Jun envoys. They were clearly wary and trying to figure out what benefits and downfalls cooperation with Caderyn could bring them. There was some doubt among Caderyn's officers if the Jun wasn't buying time to alert another force or prepare for an ambush. But Caderyn didn't fear for such an outcome. He understood that the Jun were cautious but they weren't readying themselves for some hostility. The prospect of being safgeguarded from the civil war was most tempting to them, he wagered, but they didn't just embrace the chance without understanding the possible risks, that could follow their decision.

And so, a few days went past. Caderyn kept his force in check. While bored soldiers could be the most troublesome, Caderyn and his officers managed to keep the rank and file in check - preventing them from doing anything stupid to upset the Jun clan and her subjects.
Then the time came that the Jun provided their response.

They accepted.

Not hesistating, Caderyn would direct his present force to the city. Mounting his own horse, he threw a look at the city. It was time to fulfill the Empress demand.
