They would meet up at a point not too far from the barracks. The instruction came with being prepared for heavy action as it would be the time that they would confront their enemy without any hesitation or holding back once engaged.
With the past few days passing by without much happening or cause for worry, Aiko had received information back from the ANBU operating in Amegakure. And according to the information, there were a few places that had picked up their interest. Nothing that seemed as if it would harbour the entirety of insurgents or Zealots, but it was a start. And that was all she would need for now.

Waiting for the members of the team to gather up at the spot, Aiko had instructed the ANBU that were entrusted to her to raid the other spots at a specific time. The goal was to strike at the suspicious locations at the same time. In hope to use the element of surprise somewhat effective enough to overwhelm their targets. And if the element of surprise wouldn't be enough perhaps it would be sufficient that the Zealots and insurgents would be facing with being confronted on multiple fronts. Either way, it was time to strike back.

Considering how the past few exchanges had gone with the Zealots, Aiko didn't doubt that the group under her leadership would be either eager to repay some favours or be cautious enough to not make the same mistakes as before.

Deciding to wait, Aiko would hope that this would just without any unnecessary casualty on their side.

Neji Uchiha
Konohagakure Genin Team 8
Currently in Amegakure

Neji was quickly making his way from the barracks to his squads meeting point. Today was the day, Today they were finally going to hit the zealots at their camps. Finally they had found some evidence of where they were hiding and they were finally going after them. Neji was focused, He had messed up and helped the zealots once already and he wasn't planning on doing it again. Neji kept sharp as he looked around for anything suspicious. As far as they knew the Zealots did not know they were coming, but who knows. If somehow the zealots found out then maybe they would attack first.

Neji was the first one from his squad to reach the meeting point. He landed in front of Aiko sensei and gave her a nod. He said nothing as he had nothing to say. He was concentrating and wanted to be ready. He hopped he would see that woman that he "saved" during the riots. Today he would be paying her back.

Yumeji Hojo,
Chuunin and Vanguard member, Team 13 of Kumogakure
Wolf country coast, fighting on the beach!

Nodding Yumeji would raise her right hand slightly up. Holding her hand flat the chuunin started to mould her chakra required for the Canopy Method technique. As Midori replied back to the others of the team Yumeji started to stretch the range of the technique. She was barely at the maximum range as Midori stopped talking. Throwing a sideways glance at her team leader, Yumeji wondered why. Following the gaze, Yumeji saw why. Halting the technique Yumeji grabbed her shield with her left hand.
The teen narrowed her eyes as she tried to spot what kind of weaponry the unknown duo was using. It was clear that they weren't part of the Lightning country military. Their garment and equipment just didn't match up to anything that Yumeji had seen before. That and why would the commander send more teams out to carry back a corpse without letting them know?

As expected Midori dished the orders out as Yumeji just nodded, ready for what would follow. Right after Midori, Yumeji would run out of their cover. Her shield was held in front of her, ready to deflect or block any incoming attack from the duo that they were charging. While Yumeji had been on Midori's flank, there would be a swift change into that. Utilising one of her techniques the chuunin would dash forwards without any warning as she and Midori closed the distance in a rapid pace.
With the use of Iadõ, Yumeji would keep holding her shield in front of her as one of the two strangers went for a curved blade - different from a katana. A loud thud rang through the air as the edge of the blade slammed against the shield, followed by Yumeji and the man grunted. Using her weight and the speed of her manoeuvre the chuunin rammed the man backwards. Not allowing her opponent to recover much as he stumbled backwards, Yumeji's right hand would brandish long saex. Blue chakra would envelop the steel blade as the chuunin would move once more forwards, shield in front.
Yumeji's opponent said something in an unknown language, for Yumeji, as he tried to drive her back with a counter-attack. Managing to catch the attack with her shield, Yumeji would diverse the force to the side as she would thrust forward with her saex as the blue hue of the chakra also shot forwards with the movement.
Her opponent managed to step aside, the chakra shooting forward. A soft grunt resonated from the man as the sharp blue energy would graze him. Raising her shield Yumeji was forced to defend herself from another attack. Starting to lock the man into a fierce engagement she trusted her back to Midori.

Blackroot woods

Team 7 readies at dawn to move out with some of the Blackroots. The plan seems to be going back into the place that the Blackroots have nicked as the 'Catacombs'. A most fitting name for such a dark place, the team soon enough faces with the silent, eerie darkness that hides hostile Zealots'.
As the sun was rising there already was a lot of activity going on. Men and women seemed to prepare for something big. Team 7 had been woken up at an early hour, before sunrise with the message that they should be ready to travel out. A pair of Blackroots were stationed outside the room of Team 7, ready to escort them once they were ready to the court yard where a large group of Blackroots were at the ready to leave once the orders would be given. There were various women and children talking with the men who seemed to be more than ready to face the dangers of the woods, likely exchanging goodbyes.

Since he had stopped wearing his heavier armour preparing for a mission had become a lot simpler. While he certainly missed the comfort of its protective qualities, the flak jacket was far easier to don, far lighter, not restrictive whatsoever, and most importantly, as silent as clothing. Then again, it would under no circumstances stop a direct hit from simple cold steel penetrating. Despite that he'd had a chance to rest the day before he felt mentally exhausted. As he dressed and tied his hair back, girded his katana and sat down to eat a hearty but tasteless breakfast his mind kept dwelling on his personal doubts and failures as a team leader and a people person. As he waited for everyone to get ready he made sure to wear a studied expression of patience in order to prevent betraying his train of thoughts. One of the few things his father had learned him.

She was checking her gear again. It was the third time but she felt it was only better to be absolutely certain that she would be ready. Once they would head out there wouldn't be much time to perform a check up. Once she was certain that her pouches and weapons were all where they needed to be Meilin rested her left hand on the pommel of the longsword at her left hip. She threw a glance at the door of the room before speaking up.
"Seeing the new change, I will take the responsibility of talking and deciding with the Blackroots. Just follow the instructions and don't try to cause any uproar. There are enough stories about the Blackroot Vale woods and hills that make it clear enough that finding death is quite easy here. And don't know about you guys, but I am not interested in becoming either meat for a boggart or a dire wolf."
By the last words, she had shifted her gaze, resting it on Kensuke. "Heard that being ripped and shredded by a dire wolf can be quite dreadful. Teeth, muscles, claws and jaws that are all capable of making short work of a human. Even if armed. Let's not try to follow those who were devoured by the dire wolves," raising her chin slightly she hoped that the 'point' of what she want and spoke about was clear enough. She still doubted that Kensuke would just let himself be ordered around but ask if he would just play along nicely wasn't going to make her feel better or more comfortable. She already had experienced enough times that people were prone to lie to just get what they wanted.

Glancing briefly at Kensuke, Karma couldn't help but wonder if the man was going to let Meilin be in charge throughout the entire investigation now. The way he submitted last night was slightly off in her eyes, but it could've had many reasons behind it that she didn't know. Hearing Meilin speak up, she turned to look at her teammate "You already know I'm willing to follow your instructions. And while Lord Blackroot was gracious enough to speak to us in a common language, I don't want to risk anything by making the same assumption for everyone else, so I won't try to talk to the other Blackroots unless I see from them that it is okay." She said as she placed her smaller weapon pouch in its place "I think it would probably be best to stay focused on the goal of the mission we have today. So you won't see me fooling around." Karma finished speaking as she placed the Naginata in its placed and then marked to Meilin she was ready to move out.

Sen had gotten plenty of rest and was now preparing her gear for whatever they would face in the woods. The girl hoped she wouldn't have to encounter boggarts or dire wolves as both sounded quite horrible to her. Listening to Meilin as she finished up with her gear, she wanted to shake her head as it just sounded like she was being redundant. The girl had already told them that she was in charge and they had already agreed, why bother going on about it? Sighing, she said "Yes, got it. Ready to go." She sincerely hoped that the other Cho knew what she was doing and did not get them all killed.

Kensuke raised an eyebrow when Meilin's gaze rested on him after her introductory speech as communicator between the team and the Blackroot. Given yesterday's tensions he did not feel like objecting or speaking whatsoever. Part of him felt bitter about what'd happened, about what she said. But that was only part of him. Her explanation of the dangers of the forest were misplaced if anything, they'd seen quite enough so far to know it wasn't exactly a hospitable place, but he didn't feel the need - or energy for that matter - to speak up. There were scarier things in the world than dire wolves. Such as humans. So he waited until they got underway.

With the team ready they would be escorted to the court yard. Knvell Blackroot would appear a moment later as the team was brought into the yard. At his flank was the previous captain who had brought the team to the fortress. The Blackroot leader talked with some people, likely officers and captains of the assembled force. Once it seemed he was done the man threw a glance at team 7 before he would say something to the known captain, who nodded and headed towards the team.

"Good morning," the captain said, "I hope you all are ready. From what I understand is that a decision would be taken on if you all would either join us against these ... zealots?" For a second the captain seemed slightly confused but he shrugged it off as he would continue, "Anyhow, those who will stay are assigned to my troop. I don't believe I have introduced myself, right?" The young man slightly tilted his head to the right, color=lightgreen]"Authun Blackroot, sorry that I hadn't introduced myself before. Though, who will stay around and who will be send away?"[/color] Authun shifted his gaze upon Meilin, waiting for her answer.

With nobody arguing or speaking against her, Meilin didn't feel that comfortable. While she had an idea that Karma would, at least, follow any orders her main concern was Kensuke. But she wouldn't voice her doubt any more than she already had.
As they were brought not much later into the court yard, Meilin chewed on her lower lip. There was a slight of a doubt going on in the back of her mind on what the Blackroots were planning. Her own desire wasn't hard to guess, but she doubted that the Blackroots would put aside resources and manpower into just saving one family that had nothing to do with them.
As the 'friendlier' captain of before approached them Meilin felt slightly relieved. Once he was done talking Meilin would nod.
"We all are going," the teen said after a moment, "Don't think I have introduced myself before as well. Meilin Cho. This is," she turned half around to gesture to the other three, "Kensuke Nimatsu, Sen Cho and Karma Minami. Ready to do our part."

Following them to the courtyard he looked down at the polite officer who was to lead them today. Not purposefuly. He was just a bit taller than the other man. He remained silent during the entire exchange, wearing a neutral expression, only nodding when his name was mentioned.

Walking to the courtyard, Karma looked at Meilin. From behind it was hard to tell if her teammate, now leader, was having any reservations, but she felt like it would be best to not start questioning her. After that little speech earlier it was already clear she was unsure of how much Kensuke was going to follow her, and the last thing she wanted was to give her teammate a reason to doubt her own intentions. As they arrived and the captain that previously led them to here introduced himself, she nodded as her name was mentioned "Honored to be working alongside you, captain Blackroot." She said after Meilin was done speaking.

The red headed genin would follow them all to the courtyard, she gave the captain a polite smile and then turned her attention to Meilin. "It's an honor to meet you, Captain," Sen said. The introduction their apparent leader was satisfactory but she thought that it could use some more information. What if the captain wanted to know how they worked as a team and weapons? Sighing, she decided it was better their team work wasn't mentioned as they were more like a group of people thrown together at the last minute with little communication. Sen sighed, and then looked to Kensuke before glancing back at Meilin.

"Alright," he said, nodding back to the others, "We'll be heading out in a moment's notice. A few more packs with rations will be given to my troops and then we will be on our way. Not sure how much time you spent into the catacombs, but we are going to head back there. Word has reached us that there is some change going on there. The enemy, those who you call... zealots?" Authun frowned briefly, but dismissed any of his doubts and questions regarding about the name that they or others had given to the hostile group, "Is preparing something. And it is up to us, of course, to destabilise whatever they are planning."

They were heading out. It hadn't taken much time much after Authun had introduced himself to Team 7 and while he had the typical 'friendly attitude' there was no mistake that the men under his command knew that they had to follow his orders. In an organised march and good pace they headed back to the dark place where they had first met the troop of Authun. A small break was held right before the entrance back into the dark underground world. Most of the Blackroots seemed to be quite calm and content with the idea to head into the darkness that would await them up ahead. Approaching team 7, Authun rested his left hand on the handle of his battle axe. A weapon with a symbol of a boar engraved on the blade. "We will be soon going down. Before we will go, I want to discuss some matters," Authun said on a more stern tone to small group, "I am responsible for each of these men. They are entrusted and follow my command. The same doesn't really count for you, I hope that is something you can understand," the captain informed them. It was clear that he was very serious about it.

"With also the fact that you four don't know your ways into the catacombs, I advise you all to stick close and not to engage into combat unless the order is given. There is more than boggarts that trouble these woods. The catacombs aren't called catacombs just because we considered it a grim place. They have taken more lives from my people and kin than anything else, really." Pausing he would throw a look over his shoulder for a moment, "Anyhow, be careful and don't try to stray away. Our goal is to reach to the crypt of Toroshi. Should be a day's march if we take it careful and slow. Any questions?"

The travel towards the entrance of the catacombs was one where Meilin started to gain mixed feelings. She was eager to try to start to work on retrieving her family, but she wasn't certain if she was ready to go back into what seemed to be a world of shadow and darkness. One that was even stranger and more unknown than she was already known with.
During the break Meilin was chewing on some rations, not wanting to go down the darkness on an empty stomach. Noticing that Authun approached them she would rise up and clear her mouth.
Listening to what he was telling them Meilin would nod on a few occassions. While it wasn't entirely encouraging to hear that he wasn't responsible for their lives, Meilin could assume what he meant with that. Hopefully, the others wouldn't it take the words as some hostile remark or sneer and decide to react to it. It wasn't too early or late for anything to ruin their chances to be sent away, after all.

"Got it," she replied back, "We will be ready and cautious," Meilin added as she would flash a smile. While she had no questions the teen would take a step to the right to signal that if the others felt the need to ask any questions that they should do so.

The short trip to the catacombs flew past in silence. He liked that. He didn't need to, want to listen to any of the members of Team 7 talk. What'd happened had happened and whatever would come out of that as consequence, he would accept it. He hoped the rest of their team thought of it that way too. Or that they even realised. When they eventually arrived the cavern's entrance, they paused. Authun approached them again with further instructions. He looked at Meilin in silence and then caught Authun's eye, nodding.

The silence on the way there reminded her of the silence she kept when they first entered the forest. Karma kept a determined look on her face, wanting to ensure everything goes by fine. When they stopped outside of the entrance and approached by Captain Blackroot, she looked at him with attention, making sure to not miss anything the man said. After Meilin spoke as well and stepped aside, Karma watched as Kensuke only gave the captain a nod before looking at Authun "Understood sir. Stay close and we are responsible for ourselves." She said, briefly looking at Meilin as she wondered if the girl would be ready to step up in case anything happens, because she doubted anyone would accept 'it was done for my family' as an excuse for letting teammates be hurt or injured in any manner.

Sen would take in her surroundings as they walked through the dark with Authuns team, as they stopped for a small break and the Captain came over to them. Although she was a little disheartened at being told he wasn't responsible for their lives she didn't say anything or act any differently. She couldn't help but to wonder how it would look to the Jounin Commander if something terrible were to happen to them all under Meilins leadership and Kensuke stood there. Sen hoped it wouldn't come to that but this was a less than ideal situation and it what it was now. She would only nod as Meilin stepped aside.

As no complaints or questions rose up Authun would just nod at the group before leaving them to their own affairs. The break lasted for a small bit longer until the command was given that they were going to continue. The Blackroots became silent, looking ready for a fight as they would lead the way into the darkness of the catacombs. A few of the Blackroots carried torches that they lighted up before heading into the entrance towards the darkness. Walking down the eerie silence was present and not much later there was no other light than those of the torches. A look thrown backwards wouldn't even show the light of the way they had entered the catacombs. Walking in silence the Blackroots would enter a spacious room with Team 7. Instead of waiting they continued on, but being more on guard. Continuing on their way the team would be led into an open space. The formation of the Blackroots, however, shifted to a more narrow and stretched out line. As the group would walk in a slower pace, the team would be met by Authun who waited for them.

"Watch your step. If you fall then there is no telling if you ever will see the light of day or enter lord Akumu's hall sooner than you want, the captain informed them on a hushed tone. He pointed at the ground as the light of the torches would reveal that only a small space of ground, enough for four men to walk next to each other. Turning around he would continue to walk, passing on another order to his men. Most of them readied their weapons as a few Blackroots already nocked an arrow at the ready. Walking for another fifteen minutes the ground seemed to widen as the formation of Blackroots spread out.

"We will soon cross over into contested area. Don't make any sound or mould any chakra. There are worse things than boggarts in these places," Authun informed them as he rested his right hand on the handle of his weapon. The group continued to walk, in a slow and cautious space. Yet no enemy that the men seemed to be expecting appeared, charging from out of the darkness. No sudden arrow flying past or burying itself into somebody. Just silence and darkness. Entering what seemed to be a hallway Authun briefly mumbled something in Chonobi. With the entire group into the hallway, Authun instructed an order. The few Blackroots at the back of the group would nod and stay behind in the darkness as the others continued. Up ahead there seemed to be some light to which the Blackroots killed their own lights without any orders needed from Authun.

"Okay, you guys stay close to us. Try to prevent using any chakra. One second," he instructed them. Silence dawned for a moment on the group as Authun became silent. In the dark it was impossible to see what was going on, but apparently one of Authun's men managed to reach him. Whispering something, Authun would whisper something back. "Those filthy bastards are up ahead. They aren't present with more men than us, but they have likely some more friends skulking around. We're going in hard and fast. No prisoners." There was a sliver of excitment and enthousaism in the last bit of Authun's word. For a moment there was no other sound heard, but Authun would whisper and the entire formation would start moving. "My next command will be to halt. After that I will give another command... we will then charge. The arrows will be first released, so don't be too eager unless you want to be pelted by some."

Nearing the light the formation would stop on Authun's command. For a moment the eerie silence returned, only to be broken by a stern whisper from Authun. No battle cry from the Blackroots filled the air, but the soft sounds of men moving into quick movement had something menacing. Running towards the light, the air would soon be filled with cries of surprise and pain. The light from the fire that the Zealots had made was in the midst of the room and as Team 7 would enter the room with the last of the Blackroots they would notice that there was already a number of the enemy down on the ground, arrows in their guts. Some more zealots came running from the other entrances into the room, being surprised by the determined Blacrkoots who still raised no battlecry.

Relieved. Meilin had expected that there would be questions or even some form of objections from the group as Authun spoke. Luckily it seemed that either Sen and Kensuke had lost their tongue or didn't feel the need to speak up or again, yet. As the break was over and they descended into the darkness that they had escaped from a day ago, Meilin couldn't state without lying that she felt a cold shiver running down her spine. The silence and strange markings on the wall made her feel rather unwelcome. But it also kept raising her curiosity. Who had build this place? Why weren't the builders anymore around? The nick of catacombs did fit the place as she felt she was trespassing a tomb instead of heading through an underground place towards the place of destination.
The narrow strip that they were walking on wasn't much to Meilin's liking. The light of the torches didn't illuminate how deep the fall would be if she would slip. Deciding to focus on maintaining her balance and not making either a misstep or slip, Meilin couldn't help but move her right hand to the handle of her longsword.
A soft sigh of relief escaped the teen as they were able to walk on ground that wasn't narrow. The only comfortable information that follows was that Authun warned them that they were now heading into contested area. Already she had on her lips the questions if the zealots were around or what he meant with worse than boggarts. Those monsters had seemed huge and menacing. What worse could lurk around than those beasts?
"Oh, that spells trouble," she softly mumbled underneath her breath upon hearing Authun's prayer. The fact that the captain made a soft prayer didn't please nor comfort Meilin much.
Continue to follow the group Meilin threw a look over her shoulder. So far everything was going fine, but she couldn't help but wary of the team. Deciding that she had enough to worry about without pestering herself mentally to question Team 7 mentally, Meilin focused back on front of her.

Then the lights were killed.

Surprised Meilin quickly looked around her. Trying to find the possible reason why the Blackroots had made such a decision. Hearing what Authun instructed them the doubts and all other thoughts were pushed away from Meilin's mind. Knowing that they were going to shed the blood of those zealots, the teen couldn't help but hope that there were more than just zealots nearby. Perhaps they had stumbled on a prisoner's group?
Remaining silent she focused on the commands. Slowly drawing her longsword Meilin would grip it with both hands. Her heart started to skip beats while her hands were starting to get warm, almost being itchy.

Then the first command was given. Trying to control her breath Meilin narrowed her eyes as she tried to not lose focus and let her emotion overwhelm her rational thinking. But as the command was given she moved out of her own. Moving not too fast as she didn't want to stumble into the Blackroots and disrupt in any way the attack the teen could already hear that the beginning of the fight was starting.
Rushing out of the darkness Meilin already noticed a Zealot that was preparing himself for a fight. As the zealot pulled out a short sword of foreign design, the teen already came in with an attack. A sharp swing from the right was barely blocked by the zealot, who was facing another quick strike. Hacking at the man, not wanting to give him any time Meilin saw how a strike missed as her opponent stepped aside, raising his blade for an attack back.
Raising her longsword, while dropping into the hanging sword stance, Meilin felt a vibration going down her arms as the edge of the enemy's sword landed against the flat of her own weapon. Stepping backwards as she realised she was too late Meilin focused on the opponent in front of her, that already was swinging her sword again, for another attack.

Kensuke kept a close eye on Meilin and the rest of the team as they followed to Blackroots over the ravine. He noticed that some of them grew nervous with the great depth nearby, but to him it was like hiking back home. The problem was that back home it'd been mountains where he could use the altitude and his visual prowess to his advantage. This was a cave, and as soon as the lights were killed without warning Kensuke was blind. Unbeknownst to most outside of the clan, using the dojutsu, even passively, meant that it also brought a weakness inherent to actual hawks and eagles as well. They were practically blind at night. Fortunately Authun chose this moment to pause and instruct them, allowing him to recover. Mostly. It took a good minute of stumbling blindly through the darkness and cursing the Blackroot for their lack of communication before his nightsight was restored to a degree where he could see anything at all.

And then they were moving. The lights of the zealots were easy to track, even with his impaired eyesight. When the first wave of arrows struck he saw the lights dance, several clattering over the floor, as the column reacted. As they got closer to the torches he was able to gradually make out more and more of his environment until he saw one of the zealots in front of him who was squinting fiercely to try and see Kensuke coming, blinded by his own torch.

It'd been a while since he'd used purely kenjutsu in a fight. The iai strike was one he could execute both with and without chakra, and his surprised opponent only succeeded in saving his life by covering his neck with his arm. The sword cut through flesh, sinew and bone but got stuck in the proces. Stepping in and grasping the blade near the point Kensuke then rammed it home into the eyesocket of his adversary. Retrieving his blade he stepped back, looking for a new opponent. Many torches had fallen to the floor by now, giving the room a sinister look as everyone was lit from below by flickering lights.

As they started to walk into the cave and into the darkness, the eerie silence felt very unnatural to Karma, as if something was keeping the silence by force. As they entered the second spacious room, she briefly wondered how big the place was. Authun approached them and gave them a warning regarding their steps, to which Karma nodded briefly. After passing the narrow pathway and seeing everyone slightly more spreading out, she felt a bit of relief. Being overly crowded while on a narrow space was not something she enjoyed.

Authun informed them about entering a contested area and to not mould any chakra. In response to that Karma begun suppressing her chakra, and kept maintaining her focus on that. If moulding Chakra was bad and could potentially attract worse things than the boggarts, then she hoped no one in her team would accidently jump ahead without thinking, briefly looking at Kensuke's back. More orders from Authun, this time about what his orders would mean in Chonobi. She was grateful for that, and waited to hear his commands, taking off her Naginata and preparing to charge.

First command was given, and the silence that spread all around was like the silence of a graveyard, with breathes of the people all around not even being audible. When the second command was given, she waited briefly, trying to listen to the sounds of the arrow, but just barely managing to do so. As soon as she saw the Blackroots begin to move forward, she began running forward as well, looking at the backs of Kensuke and Meilin, who both vanished among the Blackroots as they ran ahead.

Moving towards one of the entrances, she raised her Naginata upon seeing several more Zealots who were coming inside, charging to help their comrades. Bringing the blade of the Naginata down as several of the Zealots spotted her and several Blackroots charging towards, she watched as one of the Zealots prepared to defend himself with a pair of swords. As the blade of the Naginata started to hit the ground slightly, Karma started to count down in her head, the distance between her and the Zealot only growing shorter. When she reached zero, she brought it very quickly up, allowing the Naginata's blade to hit the Zealot's swords, and making the dust the Naginata's blade gather go straight at the Zealot, going into his eyes and catching him off guard.

Pushing her weapon forward, she brought the Naginata's blade close enough to just barely poke the partially blinded Zealot's neck, and quickly spin the Naginata, making the staff edge go from below and strike him in his private part, catching the man off guard once more. With the man's full attention on getting past the pain, Karma struck the man in the chest and then moved across, letting the blade get out from the side of his body. Before she could properly look around, she heard footsteps from behind and brought her Naginata's staff part backwards, feeling it become blocked by something as she turned her gaze. There was another Zealot, blocking the Naginata with a long sword, and he appeared determined to not get caught off guard so easily.

As they entered the catacombs she kept the Captains warning in mind, the use of chakra would worsen their situation and there would be holes to avoid stepping in. The only light she could gather was from the torches carried by some of blackroots, at first she didn't mind it. The darkness with a bit of light was not that bad. Unfornuately, the more they walked the more her nerves would act up and she couldn't help but to feel nervous. She kept in mind what the Seer had said, the boggarts could detect chakra and apparently there were such things as leeches that could drain chakra. The girl wasn't planning on using any chakra but she was glad the Captain had also spoke against it.

As the lights were put out, the girl would ready her weapon and keep it trained in front of her. As the first command was given, she would go towards an area that would provide her good support to have her back to. One zealot came towards with his sword at a ready position. Sen would quickly take aim at the zealots neck, releasing the arrow and quickly setting another arrow in its place. Her arrows would strike the zealot seemingly at its intended target which allowed her a breif moment of relief before another zealot came charging towards her.

The girl would train her arrow on the zealots neck as she did with the first, releasing the arrow and quickly sending another arrow to follow it. This time her aim was slightly off as it would clink against his armor and fall to the ground without harming the zealot. The zealot laughed, but failed to notice the third arrow she had sent that had followed the second and it did strike its intended target. It would seem to her that a few zealots would come at her and as she sent more arrows soaring into the air some would hit the zealots and some wouldn't. Sen was grateful that she had at least taken out a few of them. Sending more arrows soaring into the air and again she readied more arrows as the charging zealots kept coming.

The sound of steel clashing against steel resonated in a loud fashion through the air near Meilin. Deflecting the attack of her opponent, she felt the heavy vibration going through her arms. A soft grunt escaped Meilin as she focused on trying to hold her ground. Focusing on making sure that she wouldn't make any mistake. Which was easier thought or said than done.
"Shit!"
In the nick of time, Meilin managed to parry an attack but the fierce anger and determination would shift into desperation. Her opponent was more skilled and on the offensive, but cautious for any counter attack of the genin he was facing.
Parry, step aside, parry, feint, parry.
The dance between Meilin and her opponent didn't seem to halt as the genin wasn't able to find any window of time to launch an attack back. Keeping the hanging sword stance she noticed that her opponent started to become a bit overconfident. Instead of launching a quick sweep from the right or left the man went for an overhead attack. Probably wanting to deliver a powerful blow to crush through her defence. Narrowing her eyes, Meilin would ready herself for the attack.
Once more the air around the two combatants would be filled with the sound of steel clashing on steel, but this time it would end in a different manner. In a fluid movement, Meilin would let the attack hit the flat of her blade, using the kinetic energy of her foe's attack help to direct her own blade while she stepped aside. In the moment time seemed to slow down as her adrenaline rushed to a new height in her body. It was an exciting moment and she realised in that moment that she was capable of deciding if this man would die here in these cold, underground halls or be allowed to live. The choice was made without any hesitation.

Bringing the blade in a fell sweep, blood would gush out of the wound, splattering on the arms and gloves of Meilin. The steel of her longsword bites through the clothing of her opponent as he gasped for air, clearly not expecting the genin employing such a technique. As the steel sink deeper into the flesh of her opponent Meilin would push her weight into her attack, driving the edge of her longsword deeper into the man.
"Die! Come on, die!" She thought to herself, panicking as she noticed that he kept struggling. Kicking the man's knee to force him on a knee she tried to release her blade, which would go in a sloppy fashion. Now with the opponent on a knee and trying to recover Meilin wouldn't hesitate to bring down her longsword on her foe. Just before the steel would bite once more through clothing, skin and flesh Meilin swore she heard the man mutter something as raising his free hand up.
The attack would mean the end, however, for the zealot. Collapsing on the ground, the man wouldn't move anymore. Jerking her longsword out of the man's neck Meilin turned around as she panted lightly. Before she could recompose herself two Zealots approached her. Readying herself quickly Meilin would be forced into the defence as the two started to corner her with quick and cautious attacks.
"Cowards," Meilin hissed as she quickly stepped backwards to avoid another attack. Parry one attack, she was forced once more to step backwards. Only to hit something solid.
"A wall? Shit!"
Raising her blade, Meilin would try to do her best to do her best to parry the incoming attacks. Feeling a sharp sensation originating from her left shoulder,,, she tried to focus on not allowing any attack reach her.

Chaos. As usual in a skirmish. Darkness. Nothing he wasn't used to. A movement left of him, and then a scream. He weaved right, and saw a Blackroot ram a dagger home before flinching away with a cut over his arm. A zealot jabbed at him from far away, but the attack was easily set aside. Yet he hadn't been ready for it, so he couldn't take advantage. Despite his experience he sensed that the Blackroot were far better at fighting under these conditions than he was. A dense skirmish where keeping an eye on your friends was as hard and twice as necessary as keeping an eye on your enemies. The zealot lunged at him again with the same move, and Kensuke parried it, stepping in to take advantage now the man was out of balance, but it'd been a trick to get him closer. Two zealouts stepped forwards, weapons poised to strike. Kensuke backstepped and parried the one blade that could still reach him, having achieved nothing. When the man pushed in to press the bind Kensuke wanted to set it aside through weakness and strike, but the third zealot stepped in to abuse his opening. Instead of a lethal cut Kensuke was forced to grapple the second one to manoeuvre himself out of harm's way, disarming the man in the process, bringing pause.

His three opponents loitered around him and he realised he was falling out of the chaotic frontline, to be surrounded. He retreated a step and used the moment it bought him to get a look around, immediately noticing a Blackroot besides him. He couldn't see Karma, but he saw the flash of a naginata further behind him, meaning she should be fine. A little ways behind him on the other side was Sen who was using her bow far too close for comfort, but he couldn't warn her now. Even as he thought this another zealot made the decision to dash at her, leaping over the man struggling with an arrow through his thigh. He also realized that Meilin was absent amidst the chaos, and noticed a struggle towards the right near what looked like the wall of the cavern. Several zealots were surrounding someone who'd been driven out of their lines. It looked bad. He'd have to choose who to help. Leave Sen to fight the axeman with just her bow, leave this Blackroot facing three opponents, or leave what probably was Meilin to fight her own way out of that mess. The Blackroot would be able to handle it. Or so he hoped.

He feinted towards his three opponents but instead dashed to where he believed Meilin was being surrounded. The three men flinched back, ready to receive his strike and retaliate, but in doing so left the gap Kensuke needed to get past them. He was almost there when besides him a Blackroot worked a zealot to the ground and finished him off, but was then promptly kicked in the head by another zealot. Another Blackroot came in to help, but Kensuke was faster. The kicked man shook his head, spat some blood and got up without a word, finishing off the zealot Kensuke'd just incapacitated. He had to admit that the Blackroot were scarily effective at this sort of fighting. Given the chaos it was almost inevitable to suffer injuries and casualties, but by some miracle he'd only seen two Blackroot take a wound so far, both shrugging it off.

The zealots were becoming harder to fend off with her bow and she was also at risk for using up all her arrows. The girl would aim at the closest zealot to her then firing her arrow at the pressumably weakest point of the body and watched as the zealot ducked, anticipating the attack. Fortunately a Blackroot then engaged the zealot, saving her for the moment. Of course, this was just in time for a new one to come charging towards her with an axe. Sen swore under breath and aimed at the incoming zealot. Firing at the zealot, she swore again as his axe knocked the arrow down and got closer to her. Unlike her teammates, she didn't have a weapon that she could use in close combat. Sen only had her bow and arrows as well as some typical shinobi weapons.

The axeman was now close enough to swing at her with his axe, deciding her bow was no longer the best weapon and narrowly dodging the first attempt. She took out a few kunai and took a defensive position. As he would swing again, she would dart around it and narrowly miss the aze sending her right hand up as she did to cut into his arms. Missing, she readied herself for the next attack. He swung at her again but this time as she attempted to dodge the axe it would graze her left shoulder causing her to stumble a bit on her feet from the pain. Gritting her teeth she kicked her left leg out in a sweeping motion and managed to knock him off balance while darting up with her kunai. Making contact she would then use this as leverage to dig the other kunai into him as well. Pulling one out of his arm she would take his disorientation to cut through the pulse area. With some luck, she cut deep enough to cause him to bleed decently. Still using her advantage she would use her other kunai to swipe across the top of him and essentially slit his throat. His axe would swing again as she did this and as they both made contact she would feel the blade of the axe cut into her right leg. Stumbling back as the man recoiled in turn from the cuts she had made.

The Zealot Karma was facing now slowly pushed her naginata away from him, eventually pushing hard enough to make her take a couple of steps back, and then she jumped back another step to dodge a slash from his long sword. The Zealot begun going on the offensive, slowly pushing her back as she constantly tried to think about a plan to break his attention. Before long she begun hearing footsteps behind her, but because she couldn't break her attention away from the Zealot, she couldn't be sure if it was an ally or a foe that was moving behind her. Deciding to not take a chance, she begun counting the seconds between each strike he landed against her Naginata.

She managed to count two and three seconds between strikes, depending on which side they came from. As she counted, however, the long sword nearly reached her hand, making her realize that slipping away from this man's attack spree wouldn't be easy. It took her another couple strikes from his direction before she noticed the gaps between his attacks grew by a second. The constant attacks were beginning to make him slower. She took this to her advantage and after the next strike against her naginata, she rolled to the side, managing to completely dodge his next hit and then sent her Naginata towards the man's legs, aiming to make him trip, but he followed her movements and jumped, completely avoiding the hit and then coming down towards her with his long sword. She rolled out of the way again but this time felt her Naginata became stuck, and she saw the Zealot landed his sword on the blade of the Naginata, holding it down. He then sent a kick towards Karma, which she blocked with her arm, pushing her away from her weapon before the Zealot begun making his way towards her once more, his sword at the ready for any surprise she may hold.

Glancing in her Naginata's direction, she managed to spot the rope with which she held her weapon against her back. Karma hoped for the best as she begun moving towards the Zealot, with the man sending a strike towards her chest. She dropped backwards, landing on the ground and sending a kick towards the Zealot's legs, briefly catching him off guard but failing to make him move as the man quickly sent another slash with his sword towards her, and she rolled out of the way, getting up with the rope the weapon in he grasp. She wondered if she would get a chance to bring her weapon back to her as she kept moving backwards to dodge the strikes of the Zealot's sword.

It didn't go well. There was no room that she could utilise to move away from her attackers. The only advantage that Meilin had at the moment was that her attackers were limited slightly in the directions that they could launch their attacks from. But that didn't mean that they weren't less determined to bring her down. Focusing everything she had and could into trying to keep holding her ground, Meilin gasped.
A sharp pain shot from her side as the steel blade of the zealot at her left grazed her. It wasn't a wound that was going to be deadly, but it was quite painful. Not being allowed to winch or drive the zealot at her left back and away, Meilin was forced to deflect an attack from the right. Panting, she wasn't given a chance to do anything else as another attack came from the right.

As this continued for two more exchange of blows Meilin decided that she had to risk something. Eventually, they would go through her defence and take her down. So, in the end, she would lose anyways.
After deflecting an attack from the right, Meilin would move to the right. Using her left foot, the teen quickly kicked the Zealot. As the man stumbled backwards by the kick, his companion decided to lash out. Winching, Meilin felt how the blade of the other Zealot slashed her left forearm. In more of a reflex than a coordinated attack, she lashed out back. Judging by the grunt of the man, she had managed to drive him back but her vision became blurry for a second.
Blinking rapidly her vision would become clear, but it was evident that she wouldn't be able to fight two zealots at the same time. Hearing something at her back, Meilin lowered her level and dodged the attack. Only once more to get cornered by two foes.

It was Meilin after all. With an economy of effort wasted on the zealots he severed the spine of one of the men cornering Meilin before dragging his left foot back, half-turning to catch an incoming blow from the second zealot behind Meilin on his sword, still extended. As soon as the blades made contact Kensuke used his left hand to grasp both blades where they connected, bringing the hilt of his blade forwards, levering it under his opponent's wrists as he stepped in. Twisting violently he disarmed his foe and pointed the tip of his katana at the man's face in one move, and a heartbeat later the man was dead weight on his sword.

Retrieving the blade he immediately whirled into a feint to keep Meilin's other assailants at a distance. Absentmindedly he realised that in a normal skirmish the zealots would have run already. But in this darkness with no real way of telling who had the upper hand until all were slain or you were dead yourself, every fight became one with an incredible toll.

As she tried to keep up with the attacks, Meilin was certain that she was losing ground again to her foes. Growing a bit more determined she opted for trying to find a window in their attacks to fend one off and take out the other. Parrying another attack she thought she spotted an opening. Only for somebody else to join the fray. Taking a quick step backwards, uncertain if it was friend or foe that joined in, Meilin released a loud sigh as Kensuke took over the fight. It was a moment where she could catch her breath again and inspect the wounds she had sustained. From a quick look nothing too bad. She would have to fix herself up later, but not now. There was still some fighting going on.
As Kensuke would fend off more assailants, one still tried to approach and attack the Nimatsu from his right flank. The handaxe of the Zealot was raised, but as it came down with the intention of driving a gash into the back of Kensuke a loud sound rang through the air.
Holding her longsword up, Meilin deflected the strike as the vibration went through her arms. While the zealot was caught off guard the genin didn't waste any breath on kicking him. Landing a kick between the man's legs Meilin would push the blocked weapon backwards to give herself some space. A quick slash would follow, causing the man to stumble but not yet ending his life. Without any word or signal needed Meilin would drop into a fighting stance, deciding to defend the Nimatsu's flank as good as she could.

As the Zealot kept forcing Karma to move backwards, she caught glimpses of the Blackroots that were fighting around her. All she needed was to try and get one of their attention for assistance, and she decided to do so by whipping the hand that held the rope of the Naginata to the right, making it hit the legs of a Blackroot who was with her back to her. As she kept moving back and the Zealot kept moving forward, the Blackroot didn't take a chance and slammed his arm back, hitting both Karma and the Zealot and making them both drop to the ground before going back to his fight.

Taking the open moment she got, Karma finally managed to bring the Naginata into her grasp and roll out of the way of another attempted stab at her from the Zealot. Getting back up, she started to try and hit the man with the staff part of the Naginata, which he was managing to block. Keep an eye out on his reactions, Karma spotted another Zealot that was coming to aid his accomplice. Not wanting to try her luck at fighting two people, she took another swing at the Zealot and then sent a kick at him, with the swing being blocked but the kick managing to hit the man's leg and push him down to be on his knee. She then took another swing at the man, who blocked the hit once more, and this time also blocked a kick from Karma, only to be caught off guard as Karma pushed her Naginata towards him, forcing him to focus his grip on the sword so it wont end up against his own chest. With the grip on her foot loosened, she brought it back and sent another strong kick at him, hitting his hand once more but this time with enough force so that it moved back, hitting the man's face and making him fall on the side from the hit. Karma then quickly placed one foot on his sword, the other on the open arm and hit the man hard with Naginata's blade towards his neck. The Zealot moved his head and managed to only get a scratch, and she moved the blade towards his neck with force before getting kicked from the side, forcing her off the Zealot who was now trying to do his best to stop the bleeding.

Looking up at the man who kicked her, she noticed his weapon was still sheathed and he held a taijutsu stance. Either this man was foolish or overly confident in his skills, she thought to herself as she brought her Naginata up for another hit, only to get kicked from behind by a second Zealot. Landing on the ground, she wondered if she would have any luck in this fight before rolling out of the way of the first Zealot's foot, and getting back up on her feet, hoping she won't need to face two Zealots for long.

The fighting would continue on when eventually the Zealots were starting to try to make their way out. Few managed to scurry away from the fighting into the dark halls from whench they came. Others were less fortunate. Being taken down by the Blackroots and the members of Team 7 an eerie silence would follow. The Blackroots started to search the death without much talking. As they did a few of them would bring back some light as Authun's voice rang through the hall. On the few entrances to the room he positioned some of his men to be on guard. Turning around the captain would look around, before settling his gaze on the team. Being covered in blood the young man seemed to be fine. Letting his handaxe rest on his right shoulder he eyed briefly the members of Team 7 before speaking. "You all made it? Expected it to be a longer fight, though," Turning half around he threw a quick look. So far those who were slain on the ground seemed to be Zealots. There were a few wounded Blackroots, rounded up together and being treated by a few others. "Think you guys need a rest, eh? I plan to send some scouts ahead. Didn't expect a fight in this hall. Usually those bastards tend to skulk around up ahead. We will try to move again in a hour, so make the best of it." Nodding towards the team, Authun would rejoin his kin, helping a wounded man towards the others as some laughter resonated through the hall from the two Blackroots.

The fight was over as abruptly as it had begun. The same darkness that had allowed the ambush also meant that when one flank gave away, the rest of the zealots only realised when they wer cut down. The torchlit cavern was littered with corpses of the unfortunate zealots. Most were wounded, but Kensuke made no illusions about their survival. Already the Blackroot were systematically slicing throats, all the while bandaging their own wounds. Kensuke surpressed the urge to retch and cleaned his sword on a corpse. He knew this kind of warfare. People died. Yet it still opposed him. Looking around he felt something move under his feet and saw the man whom he'd stabbed in the face gurgling something. With a sigh he knelt down and retrieved a knife he found on the man's body.

"Embrace the rest." He said and punched the knife through the man's eye and brains, ending his suffering. There was blood on his hands, and to his surprise most of it was his own. Although he'd executed the technique very well, his grip on the crossed blades must've been wrong, as there was a long, superficial cut in the palm of his hand. He squeezed it, watching the blood flow out.

Then he got up and looked around to search for his Team, finding all of them standing, some in better shape than others. They gathered as if by plan when Authun approached them, explaining the situation. Then he left, laughing together with an injured comrade. Again that retching feeling, but then it was gone.

"You guys alright?" He asked, eyeing their injuries and grabbing the pouch with medical supplies he carried on him.

Had they won? Meilin kept guarding Kensuke's flank, wary of any advances of hostiles around them. As they ran away the teen grew angry. She wasn't yet done with them. Using that anger as fuel the genin would whip up her weapon, causing the blade to slash into the stomach of the man who had attempted before to hack into the back of Kensuke. The impact of her attack caused the man to drop forwards, a hand shooting to his stomach. Without slowing down as she pulled her blade backwards Meilin wouldn't allow the man to even attempt to crawl away.
Raising the point she would push it downwards to stab the man in the back. Judging by his gurgling it wasn't yet enough to take his life. Planting a foot firmly on the man's back. Planting the longsword once more into the back of the man she noticed that he didn't move anymore. Looking up she was trying to spot any nearby Zealot she could try to mow down, but it seemed that they either were already cut down or managed to get away. Gritting her teeth Meilin would look down as she kicked the man she had just killed. She wasn't yet done with them.

With this respite, she would use it to clean the blade of her sword on the last corpse she had made. Authun approached and spoke up but while Meilin listened, she wasn't feeling that great. Just nodding to the captain she wanted to inspect her own injuries. Some did sting but they didn't seem to be life-threatening. Knowing that she wasn't allowed to use her medical chakra, the teen was confident that she wouldn't need to break that rule with her skill. Not yet.
Kensuke then asked if they were alright, which made Meilin stare at him. No, she wasn't alright. If anything she wanted to sneer at him that she could hold her own ground, but she knew better.
"I am fine," she replied in a neutral tone while kneeling down, "Just some scratches..." her voice trailed off in some muttering as she started to bandage her own wounds..
She wanted to thank him for his aid but at the same time, she didn't trust herself yet. Deciding in silence that she would see to it that she would repay the debt that she had gained today.

As she was barely managing to defending herself against the two Zealots that were now fighting her, gaining a couple of cuts and being pushed around by them, Karma hoped anything would interrupt their attention, or that perhaps someone came to her assistance. Getting kicked by both Zealots sent her to the ground, and she brought her Naginata up to block their legs from hitting her chest. Before she could try and push them off her, she watched as they suddenly retreated back into the entrance they came from. Slowly getting up, she looked at her few bruises before looking around to try and spot her team members. Managing to find Kensuke and Meilin, who were next to each other, she made her way to them, looking at the both. They both seemed mostly fine, except Kensuke's hand was bleeding quite a bit.

When Authun came and gave them the briefing, Karma nodded briefly. Now that the fighting stopped, she was starting to feel the aches of her muscles from the places which were hit by the Zealots with nothing to occupy her mind away from the pain. While it wasn't enough to make her stop moving, she did decide to get down to a sitting position and let her muscles rest and take advantage of the hour rest they had. When Kensuke asked if they were alright, Karma looked at him "I think we should be asking you that. We're not the ones with a cut hand. But I only have a couple of cuts and a bit of aching muscles, nothing serious." She said, reaching for the medical pouch to start taking care of the cuts.

As Meilin knelt down, clearly annoyed about something. He had a pretty good idea what about, but he didn't want to judge too early. Instead, his head shot towards Karma as she suggested he bandage himself up. He threw back his head and laughed heartily, perhaps a little too heartily. There was more stress than joy in the sound.

"Good point." He said and began wrapping his hand in a bandage. "Should learn me to respect sharp objects." He joked while he secured the anaesthetic-induced wrappings. He moved his hand and wrist around to see if it obstructed his movement, and then put his gloves back on.

Sen was glad when the fight was over and finally she was able to breath a sigh of relief. Her shoulder was a bleeding lightly and ached a lot but she wasn't going to complain when she was sure there were people with worse injuries. Going over to Meilin and her other team mates, they seemed to be in a decent condition despite the fight they had. Chuckling at Kensuke's sort of joke and giving a small smile.

Tomiko | Team 2 Genin | Amegakure

Pulling the mask up to obscure the lower half of her face as she ran, the genin made her way towards the meeting point. It did not take her long to reach, thanks to the relatively close distance from the barracks to the point. As per the instructions of the orders which had come down the line, Tomiko was armed rather decently. However, she knew that being well armed would not be worth much of anything if she failed to perform as she should. After all, they were to be engaging the enemy today. Going on the offensive against the Zealots and Insurgents. Something that both scared Tomiko, as well as something she was a little eager to do. She had some favours to repay for her team, her friends, who had been lost against the enemy.

Though a part of her was still quite afraid of what was likely to come. She did not want to lose anybody else, or even herself against the enemy. Something she was well aware could happen at any moment against their foe. Still, that fear was natural. Tomiko had been told this by Aiko herself, and she had been told that it could be used to keep one alive in dangerous situations. Shaking her head slightly as if to free her mind from all that thought, the genin arrived second at the meeting point. Just after that Uchiha had arrived. Looking towards Aiko, Tomiko gave a simple nod and said "Ma'am." In a rather quiet tone, then feel silent as she stood in the rain.

It seemed to Tomiko as if the entire world had taken on a more somber tone that day. With even the rain seeming more depressing than usual, and the whole atmosphere seeming off. Though she knew it might just be her, Tomiko hoped that this was not some sort of omen for what was to come.

She did not want anything to happen to make this worse. Rather, she hoped she'd be able to find the two members of her team who were still missing. Despite what Aiko had said.

She really didn't want a bad omen for today...[/hr][/fieldbox]

Niji Yakei
Self training in the Wolf Country

Having helped train Kenshin briefly to boost his chakra control and swordplay, there was still some energy left in Niji after all she'd done today, there was a while left to the day yet and word had spread around that the other allied forces had recently arrived too and were setting up their camps. It would be interesting to at least see what those from the other militaries were capable of, but it would be a waste of resources at the moment so she dismissed the thought.

Instead she figured that she should start improving upon herself a bit more, the combat drill earlier was mostly her teaching Kenshin how to put his sword and shield to better use. Perhaps she should work on her own chakra control whilst she had the free time? She could only spend so long reading her new book and she didn't want to finish it just yet, plus it wasn't hard to at least start training yourself. Admittedly she hadn't tried the more advanced form of chakra control training that she knew of, but if there were any time to give it a try, why not now?

The rationalisation Niji made in her head felt rather sound so she retreated to her tent for some relative peace and quiet and sat herself down. So... You take a seat and form a handseal corresponding to the chakra nature you're training. She thought her way through the steps, forming the Dog seal in front of her and slowly closed her eyes. Then focus on moulding the chakra within yourself, but don't put it to use, just continue to mould it and shift it around in your chakra network. It didn't sound hard, but that was where the problem laid, in theory anything could be easy until you put it into practice.

So Niji began making slow, deep breaths and focused on herself as she began to mould the chakra within herself to a usable state. So far it had started out well, but knowing that one's self-confidence wasn't a thing to get too caught up in she continued to carefully mould and shape chakra within herself, allowing it to flow through to her extremities and back again. The simple destructive capability of lightning in general kept her wary of the process she was following, it caused a dull sense of dread to start crawling up her spine.
Wait, that was something else, more akin to burning than an actual feeling. And as soon as she noticed that pain it intensified to the point where she found herself rather rudely wrenched out of her concentration and falling onto her back, slightly wide-eyed and panting softly. "No wonder it's an advanced training method..." She reactively wiped her brow with her hand and sighed to herself. "I may have to ask someone for help with this. But I've been rather self-reliant anyway, it couldn't hurt to try it again on my own."

She waited a few minutes, quietly catching her breath and regaining her composure before she sat back up and got herself ready once more. "I'm sure I can do this, I just need to keep focused on moving the chakra around." After some verbal self-reassurance, she felt she was ready again and began to focus once more, handseal ready and as focused on the task at hand as she thought she could be. And so it began again, steadily moulding chakra for use and moving it around within herself, she took more care to it this time and tried to fix her attention upon the flow of the chakra itself so to not lose track of where it was going.

From the palms, through the arms, shoulders and back and to the pit of her stomach, then leading it through each leg and bringing it slowly back up to her chest.
It was a better effort than before, recognising that fact started to cause concern over Niji's imminent failure and a surge of boiling pain in her chest broke her concentration once more.
"I guess I'm going to need some assistance, if I try this any more I'm more likely to injure myself." Begrudgingly, chakra training of that scale would have to wait for another time when there was someone who could monitor her to make sure she wasn't going to hurt herself.

Another sigh escaped her, she may as well just do some physical training to improve her muscles whilst there was time.
Niji would later be seen at the training field on her own conducting a few different exercises to start working on her upper body strength.

Kaya Irozaki
| Genin | Kumogakure Team 13 | Near the beach, Wolf country.|

Kaya nodded. She threw a quick look at the summoning of Reyna. It was fine with her that she had to wait before going out and dragging the corpse back. However, the situation would shift in a rapid pace. Two unknown men appeared and Midori dished out new orders. Instantly Kaya wanted to move with the chuunin and their team leader, not one for staying out of the fray. But Midori ordered her and Reyna to pick up the 'thing', which was the corpse. An order that made Kaya hesitate for a second.
As Midori and Yumeji moved in, providing the distraction, Kaya threw a glance at Reyna. There was a moment that the expression of the Irozaki betrayed her doubt, but it would shift into a more determined look. Nodding to Reyna, Kaya would turn her head towards the direction of the corpse and where Yumeji and Midori were fighting.

"Here we go," she muttered, sprinting forwards out of cover. Her heart skipped a beat a few times as she started to run as fast as she could.
With the strangers being locked into combat Kaya felt somewhat more confident. Until she reached the body that was designated by Midori as 'the thing'. The corpse wasn't what scared her. It just somehow reminded her of the rampage of Reyna back in Kumogakure. How she had killed off those people who had taken Midori without much of an effort. How that red chakra had surrounded her as a cloak, giving a very diabolic and tense feeling. Crouching Kaya bite on her lower lip, her fingers wrapping around the right ankle of the corpse. The skin felt cold and just as Kaya started to pull the corpse, wanting to drag it as fast and far as she could from the fighting. Putting her back into it, she didn't notice that somebody was attempting to approach her from her right flank, a handaxe raised as the person started to close in the distance.

Time to make a move!
Part 2.

Part 1.

A collab between Zane, Alice and Oetje!

Summary :
Etsu gathers her team together in a place that many wouldn't go, not without any good reason. She explains that they are going to 'question' some people about the police corps. But will it go as planned?

[spoili]
Waiting under the smelly trash she bide her time hoping they wouldn't find her. Then she heard a sharp whistle which was the sign to strike. Groaning she pushed the trash off her knowing if she survived her sensei's crazy ways, that she would need a shower. Rushing onto the scene she had the knife she was given drawn, and she ran to the closest man towards her. One was on the ground with her sensei on them which should draw their attention towards her for the moment. She would attempt to tackled the man on the right to the ground.

One more man was standing up right. His mind was probably doing its best to progress what just happened in all of a sudden. The man was about to make a move, probably either trying to make a run for it or attempting to move towards one of his pals. But he wouldn't be able to do anything as somebody slammed against his back, causing him to trip forwards by the unexpected weight. Her eyes were wide as her right hand trembled a bit, moving the knife forwards. Placing the cold metal at the man's neck she grabbed one of his arms and would sit on it with her left knee.

Soon the situation that had exploded into action would calm down. With the men taken down. Her team had managed to tackle men down. The men were still wondering what was going on and Etsu quickly spoke up.
"Stay silent and nobody has to die. Check their pockets and make sure that they will stay with their faces on the ground. No need to see more than they already had."
Instead, Etsu would do something else. Whistling sharp, Etsu would pick the man by the back of his head and slam him hard against the ground. Knocking him cold, she expected that her students would follow, the jounin would wait a moment before she would search the man.
Checking the pockets of the man didn't bring up anything. He carried a wallet, but nothing of paper or another source of information that would guarantee any answers. But she had different methods of learning and getting answers.

All the men down she kept hers face down as sensei would give demand to the men and them, The men to stay silent and for them to check their pockets. Yet Etsu then whistled which caught her attention as she brought her captive's head down to the ground with enough force to knock him out. Kitana flinched a bit but brought the back of the man's head up and slammed it on the ground hard. She would then search his pockets and would find a wallet which had little to no money in it, some pictures of his family. He also had a lighter with him but nothing on him to use it for. She would look at her sensei and shake her head to show nothing of interest.

With the man tackled down and Rini on top, the latter wasn't sure what she should do now. From the corner of her right eye she could see Etsu. And while Rini listened, her eyes widened slightly upon seeing what the jounin did. Winching at the sight Rini wanted to close her eyes and imagine herself in a nice place. Perhaps one where she wouldn't need to commit such acts of violence. Taking a deep breath in she would grab the man she held against the ground by the back of his head, only to ram his face against the ground. Judging by the grunt it wasn't that he had was knocked out yet, causing Rini to repeat it. In a more panicking manner than before. Freezing as the man seemed to grow both silent and not moving Rini waited for a moment. Only once she was certain he wouldn't scare the chakra out of her, the genin conducted her search. The man had no papers or anything that seemed important. Only a wallet with some money in it, but nothing too important or that could serve as a tip or information. Glancing at their team leader, Rini was almost too afraid what would happen now. Briefly, the genin casted a nervous glance in the direction of Kitana. She was a chuunin. She knew what would happen, right?

Content, Etsu noticed that the two girls really did anything she ordered. Seeing it cast a small smile to adore Etsu's lips as she would sit on the back of the man she had knocked out. Spinning her knife at a rapid pace with her fingers Etsu thought about what they should be doing now. These men had information that Etsu was after. But conducting the search herself would require her using her ninjutsu. And this wasn't really the place to conduct the search for information. The men would also be expected sooner or later at their work. Them missing would alert the insurgents and zealots without a doubt. But letting them go wouldn't also be what Etsu desired.
Letting out a sigh she only had one way how she could deal with all the trouble. But she doubted that her students would like it. Not that they were here to like their line of work anyways.
"Okay, doves, we are going to bring our new friends," Etsu said as she patted the back of the head, of the man on who she was sitting on, "To some of my own friends. Can't keep all the fun for ourselves. If you manage to find some coin, then congratulations. Keep it. Everything else? Put it back. Not that they really need it where they will be going but we have to try to be friendly."

A warm smile was flashed by Etsu before she would grab the man she had knocked out by his ankles. Starting to drag the man over the dirty ground, she almost spoke in a cheerful tone to her team.
"Come! Can't keep our other friends... waiting.~"

Kazumo Sarutobi- Team 8 Genin

Having geared up at Sensei's request the genin would yawn a bit from having gone to sleep rather late due to practicing the Advanced Genjutsu clone sensei taught him earlier. He would have both the coat and arm guards sensei gave him on, as well as his bow along with some other tools. Yet the way he saw it, he didn't really wish to be in close quarters with boy wonder nearby. Mostly if today was going to be a danger filled day. One he didn't really look forward to dealing with considering what his teammates liked to do. One who would report danger over a compromised communicator, and one who saved said woman who made them compromised. Well today looked to be interesting anyways. He also took to wearing black gloves, a purpose for his own reason. It was the only thing that covered the blood on his hands anyway.

He would arrive at the destination where boy wonder and Tomiko were already there, both looked ready to go and he wasn't sure if that frightened him or not. They weren't even there and they were ready for whatever was thrown there way. He gave a simple nod to sensei and would wait for what she had to say next or in case anyone else was coming to this gathering. Although at this point that would mean only Hiraku was left to arrive.[/fieldbox]

Wolf country, at the east coast.

A collab between Sketching and Gerontis.

Summary :
With the Akinian forces arriving at the eastern continent, at the coast of the Wolf country, the 13th Battalion under Koike Hon's leadership falls in line. Katsu and Koike share a conversation and eventually leads in that Katsu is being invited to join a training the next day.

[spoili]
It was cold. Not just cold even, but damn cold. Stepping on the dry sand, a grumble escaped Koike for a moment. Perhaps he should have used the water walking technique. The idea to suffer and go through the same as the troops didn't seem so great now. With the boats going back and forth there was both a lot of activity on the water as on the dry land. Scratching his chin for a second as he frowned when inspecting his pants, Koike decided to see who of his battalion was already on land. Didn't take too long to identify the members of the 13th from the others. A large group already was working on arranging and lifting packed supplies, tools and other material in waggons that had been transported with them. Noticing a lieutenant, Koike asked him which of the captains was already on shore. The answer was that Skuli was so far the only captain that had disembarked. Nodding, Koike would eye the activity as he noticed Akumu sitting behind him. The dire wolf was clearly in a bad mood, which was probably caused due to the fact he had to plunge himself from the deck of a boat into the water. "Be glad that it isn't raining," Koike mumbled amused, though quickly throwing a look up, "yet."

Katsu walked out onto the deck, his weapons hanging off his gear and clothes with two short swords strapped to the back of his hip and a couple of his knives at the side of his legs. With the weight of his bag lightened, he walked with a lighter pace than when he was boarding the ship across the sea. Tanpo quickly ran out after him as he made his way to the side. He climbed down onto one of the boats and looked up at the whimpering dire wolf, looking down at the water with distrust. "I got you," Katsu said, holding up his hands. Tanpo hesitated but jumped down at Katsu, knocking him back with his weight and pushing him down, rocking the boat and almost knocking it over. As the boy groaned, he pushed himself close to the direwolf so more soldiers could fit. When the boat was full, they made for land again. Katsu got off at the shore right after Tanpo leapt out. He looked up over at the ships they'd come from. "We're finally here, huh, Koike?" he said as if talking to himself.

Orders were shouted and more people were put to work. Watching, Koike wondered about a few things. Throwing a look at the east, where they would be heading, it felt odd. This place was a different continent. A place that they held little knowledge about. A brief moment occured where the young man wondered if this had made his ancestors also feel as how he felt right now. Coming to a land that was unknown and could harbour all kind of dangers. Though the glaring difference was that he had a place to go back to, so perhaps it wasn't that fair or right to compare it. As Koike was about to get moving to see if he could find Saki or Hayate, a voice greeted Koike in Chonobi.

"Ah, colonel, sir," Torrad's voice sounded as he would approach the young man, "Glad to find you here. Just spoke to Skuli a moment ago," the Sarutobi hooked his thumbs behind his belt as a grin flowed on the man's lips. He was clearly happy about something. "If you would want then I can arrange that some of my lads go on ahead. Scout a bit and aid the Tiger Claw's assignment," was the suggestion of the captain. Considering it, Koike shook his head. "Let's not split up yet. I need to speak with commander Hyuzu before making any big decisions. Keep your men at the perimeter. I don't want anything approaching us with you and your bows noticing it," Koike ordered. For a moment Torrad narrowed his eyes as his grin vanished.

"What if we do find something or somebody, colonel, sir?" Torrad asked, tilting his head slightly to the right. Koike locked his eyes on with Torrad, waiting a short moment. "I imagine your men know what to do with free game. Anybody that doesn't apply to the order of standing down is game." The answer caused Torrad to grin and nod. Mumbling thanks, the Sarutobi would turn around and walk away. Eyeing the captain, Koike let out a soft sigh.

Katsu watched the gleeful captain walk off. "He seems happy," the boy said to Koike, his eyes locked on the man. As the man disappeared from sight, he turned to Koike. He flashed a smile as he spoke. "Now that we're finally here, what's next for us?"

"Aye, that he seems," Koike mumbled back as he thought about something. "What is next? Arranging some matters. Letting the host gather and ready up. A detachment will be sent forwards to already start the foundation of a camp. Likely near that of the allied forces. Then?" Lightly shrugging with his shoulders, Koike remained for another moment. He wasn't completely certain how it would go from there. Probably the commanders of each force would meet up and discuss some details with each other. "Doesn't seem so bad at a first glance, though. Had expected it to be," weighting the words as he threw a look land inwards, "Exotic."

"I guess we'll see where the wind takes us from then on, hm?" Katsu said jokingly. "Well, it is growing a bit cold now that winter's on our doorstep. Maybe as spring comes around, the terrain will light up a bit more." He looked at the boats coming in from the corner of his eyes.

"Let us hope it won't bring more rain. Hayate will have my head if it will pour again. More so when it is mentioned that I was near any conversation about the weather or the wind," wondering for a second how Hayate was doing and where he was, Koike would gesture Katsu to come with him. Starting to walk through the sand of the beach, the activities around them wouldn't diminish. It would likely a few hours before the first part of the battalion would be ready. "We might not, but I hope that the forces of the Republic and Lightning country will hand over some information. Else, we will just have to do it the old-fashioned way."

Katsu followed his friend along the damp shore. "They haven't been here for much longer than we have, right? Psh, we can catch up," he said with a slightly non-chalant tone. "But if we're supposed to work together with them, I can't imagine them holding back information concerning something like the terrain layout."

"Personally? Perhaps not. But," Koike shot Akumu a glance, on which the dire wolf would start to pick up a pace and head up to the hill they were walking towards, "They have more knowledge of the lands. Both the Lightning as the Republic have held reign over the eastern lands. Doubt that they will withold information, but lets not forget that we don't know who we are dealing with. As much as I don't trust a Republican, I can imagine that the cooperation won't be smooth just because of some treaty. Unless they just have forgotten all about the Great War."

"I suppose," Katsu said after a few moments of silence, "we'll see soon enough. I sure hope things go smoothly. It wouldn't hurt to have things go exactly as planned for once," he said jokingly.

With the sky darkening to herald the coming of the night, the wooden wall was already erected. The majority of the camp was already set up as the last group was busy with the trench around the wooden walls. Sweeping the sweat from his head as he had participated in digging the trench, Koike was heading back to part of the camp where the 13th battalion was located. Somehow it was oddly comforting how quickly it all seemed to go. It made him wonder how it had gone with the other forces. Noticing that people were already set on watch and guard duty, Koike released a soft sigh. It just meant that he would be able to sleep a bit easier this evening.

Arriving at the 13th battalion's part of the camp, Koike could already notice a difference. It could just be him, but the majority seemed to be quite eager. Men talking in Chonobi about what kind of things and people they were expecting to just talks about what they had seen or thought of the allied force. As he headed towards the center of the part Koike could overhear various groups talking not all that well about the Republic. Not that he could blame them. It would take a long time before the invasion during the Great War would be forgotten. Or be forgiven.
Scratching his chin as he arrived, he noticed that Akumu was laying in front of his own tent. Something that did bother him, that he had his own tent. Each squad, so four to five persons, had to share one tent together. It just seemed wrong that he had his own tent, regardless of his rank or status. Just as he arrived, wanting to go inside Koike noticed that Akumu's head would rise up. Turning around he saw Skuli approaching. With a rather large grin.

"Colonel, sir," a salute followed, "Was hoping that I could find you here. If you're not too busy tomorrow morning, how about a old fashioned drill?" The question of the captain made Koike frown slightly as he nodded a moment afterwards. "Sure. Is it only going to be your company?" Skuli nodded as he gestured, his right thumb raised over his shoulder, "Aye, just my boys. Though, I was considering to invite your aide. Would do some good to have the lads meet with the colonel's aide, aye?"

Katsu was walking towards one of the tents when he noticed Skuli at the entryway of Koike's. He stared at the scene as members of the 13th passed back and forth in his view. He shrugged and nodded his head at the tent he was moving to. "C'mon Tanpo. Let's get settled in quickly," he said. The two went in. The traffic in the camp started to reduce quickly. Just a few seconds later, Katsu walked out, making his way to Koike's tent. As he got within earshot, the old man finished talking. As he reached the tent, he waited just behind the captain.

Rubbing his chin for a moment as he considered it, Koike would nod. "Perhaps it would. I will let it up to you and Katsu. I am not certain if I can attend myself though," Koike replied. He wasn't completely comfortable with letting Katsu to remain alone with the battalion. Then again, if he wanted Katsu to be accepted then it wouldn't be go very well if he would be there to keep backing his friend up. He had to achieve his place within the battalion on his own strength. The answer made Skuli nod. "Understood," the captain saluted once more before he would take his leave. Koike wondered how it would go as he then noticed that Katsu had been waiting. "Ah, just spoke about you. Captain Skuli invited you to participate in a drill. Not too certain what kind of drill, but he figured it might be good if you would participate."

After watching Skuli walk off, Katsu turned to his friend. "I have this sneaking suspicion that there's gonna be a whoopee cushion wherever I sit after that," the boy grumbled crossing his arms. After letting out a sigh, he looked up to his friend. "Sorry. I didn't mean to be grumpy. It might be good for me. Whatever he has in mind. Besides, he'll probably smirk and say," he continued with a poor mimicry of the old man and a burly tone. "It builds character! Hahaha, you kid." He looked back over to where the man left. "I suppose I should go talk to him."

Chuckling at the remark and short mimicry performed byhis friend, Koike would show a grin. "Perhaps. And it is fine. Think it might be good for you too. Regarding talking to captain Skuli," Koike shrugged lightly, "I will leave it all up to you. I, myself, am going to get some rest. Tomorrow is going to be an early day and I wager we will soon be needed to operate in this area." He further added. A brief glance was thrown into the direction where captain Skuli had went before back at Katsu. "Good night, Katsu."

"See you tomorrow then," Katsu said with a faint smile. "Good night." He walked away from the solitary tent as he followed Skuli's steps until he came within sight. "Captain Skuli," he called out to the man.

Hearing somebody calling out to him, Skuli turned half around. His eyebrows furrowed his brow for a moment until he noticed Katsu. Visibly relaxing by a bit, the man tilted his head slightly to the left. "Aye? What is it, little man?" the man asked, his tone slightly amused as he fully turned around to Katsu. "If you are looking for the colonel, his tent is up there," Skuli decided to say, nodding into the direction of Koike's tent.

"HA!" Katsu feigned an exagerrated laughter. "I get it. It's because I'm small." He sighed and continued to speak. "I just talked to him. He said you suggested I join your drill," he said. "What time should I get up to catch it?"

The captain snickered as his right eyebrow was slightly raised. "One way to look at it, I guess," he mumbled as he would then answer the question of Katsu. "Early morning. The lads will be at it after breakfast. So would take a good night rest, for tomorrow there is a lot of things that will be trained and done." Skuli answered back. He briefly seemed to ponder on something, but decided to keep it for himself. "Any questions left?"

After the captain stopped talking, Katsu nodded his head. "Thanks," he said curtly. "See you in the morning, captain."

Storm the Beach!! pt. 2

Preparing to move out, Reyna caught sight of the two strangers heading towards the corpse. Her eyes narrowed in confusion and she turned to Midori, hoping her friend could explain who they were. Midori's reaction, however, only served to fill Reyna with worry. Turning back to watch the strangers as they approached the corpse, she listened to Midori's orders. At first, Reyna hesitated, turning to Kaya to see what the other girl would do. She thought she saw the same look of hesitation on Kaya's face, only for a moment, before the girl dashed forwards onto the beach. She had always been the courageous one...

Gritting her teeth, Reyna charged off after her teammate, keeping low. Keeping an eye on Midori and Yumeji, she wondered if they would be alright. Midori was strong. She could take care of herself, Reyna knew that. Yumeji though... Reyna did not know her at all. But she also looked strong. Strong, confident and brave. The girl had charged into the fray without a moment's hesitation. Gritting her teeth, Reyna willed herself to be strong as well.

She caught up with Kaya, stopping at the body. Looking down, her medical training kicked in and she began searching for signs of what had killed them. Not now! She thought, casting the idea aside. They would have time when they recovered the corpse and brought it to a safe area. For now she just needed to focus on helping Kaya to get the body out of here. Bending down, she took hold of an arm, fighting back the momentary revulsion as she felt the clammy skin. Straightening up slightly she looked to Kaya, preparing to lift with her teammate. Movement caught her gaze and her eyes widened in panic. "Kaya, look out!" She shouted, dropping the arm and reaching for her swords.

As she drew the blades, the ground parted beside her and a small shape burst from the earth towards her. Diving to the side and tucking into a roll, Reyna watched as the small shape cannonballed towards a new enemy that had been approaching her from behind. This new enemy stepped to the side, using a small, rounded shield to slam the twirling shape aside. Reyna cried out as she realized the shape to be Akuto. Gripping the handles of her swords tightly, Reyna's eyes narrowed and a rage began to grow within her. "You shouldn't have done that." She sneered, her voice not coming across nearly as intimidating as she'd hoped. Taking a step to the side, Reyna kept her eyes locked on this new enemy.

The stranger simply smirked, raising a vicious, foreign looking weapon and sliding it against the shield she carried in her other hand, causing a terrible screeching sound to ring out. As the sound pierced her ears, Reyna winced, shrinking back slightly. Without warning, the woman lunged forwards bringing her weapon screaming down towards Reyna...

A Familiar Feeling

Summary:

Kuni goes to Konohagakure once more, but in a much more discreet way.

"-And Be sure to stay quiet at all times. Don't ask any questions unless they are completely vital, and follow the schedule we set. We should arrive within a few days to our destination. Understood?" The ANBU standing in front of her asked, and she nodded in response.

As they made their way out of the city gates, long before the crack of dawn and under the heavy rain. That was the third time she got instructions, once from Eiji and twice from two different ANBU. Kuni couldn't help but feel like she was being taken somewhere forbidden, with the disguise she was given and the way they were travelling. Four ANBU escorting her, all of them in disguise, and those were the ones she knew about. She got the feeling she was still being watched in the distance, like most days in Ame. They had a scheduled break every six hours, with every third break a rest for a few hours, under the highest time of the moon. She wondered how long before her feet started hurting, but at the same time, from the way she was instructed, she felt like she could make no complaints. It started feeling a bit familiar, but she couldn't tell exactly why.

The Travel through the Rain province went by smoothly. Under the cover of the rain and with their training in it, everyone managed to make the most of moving in the rain in the best pace possible while under the cover of their disguises. The ANBU were quiet, and Kuni remained silent. She had no one to talk to, as she couldn't make small talk with the ANBU, and Son-Goku made it clear he would not talk to her until she proved she didn't just say things. She had nothing to do but rest and move in silence. Rest and move.

But how do you rest when you are restless? And how do you move forward when you keep wanting to go back home?

A third of the way into the Fire province, the ANBU suddenly stopped her in her tracks. They stood still and ready for a couple of minutes before they gave her the signal to resume moving. Kuni couldn't help but wonder what happened as they kept moving. A few minutes later, she caught a glimpse of something that laid by a tree, bloody.

A lone fox, laying in its blood, taking its last breaths.

She couldn't stop and take a closer look, but she already knew. One of her watchers had found the animal in her path and took care of it, as if it made noises it could attract unwanted attention. Its body could also serve as bait for other animals, bringing those to the dying fox while they moved away. She assumed it was also made to look like an animal attacked it, as further disguise while they kept moving. Hoping that the fox will be at peace long before any other animals find it, she let her thoughts be with it for a few moments before focusing on the road ahead once more. That same night, she thought she heard a howl, but one that wasn't quite as loud as a wolf would make. She closed her eyes and wondered if there was another fox out there, who was now missing its mate or parent.

The Arrival and entry to Konohagakure went by smoothly. They entered and were discreetly escorted to the Intelligence Division. They checked her several times through different methods, and eventually told her to remain in her "role" until a second escort arrives. Even though they told her that, she felt like there wasn't exactly much she could do. She couldn't suddenly go to the market or try to find people. That would be attracting attention. She remained quiet and kept to herself until the escort arrived, and then she was told the same things as before, only she wasn't allowed to ask any questions at all, and the time to arrive at the destination was approximately an hour. Walking alongside the Intelligence Division escort, she noticed how they did not walk in any of the clear paths, eventually being led past the gate and walls of the Royal Palace undetected.

Past there, the Intelligence Division waited with her very briefly before Sworn Swords arrived. The man in charge in the Sworn Swords escort nodded to the leader of the Intelligence Division escort, and the latter soon departed as the Sworn Swords begun making their way with Kuni towards the Palace.

After making their way into the Palace, she was quietly brought to one of the guest rooms. There, most of the Sworn Swords left, except for the one who led them, giving Kuni a sharp look before he begun to speak "These are the instructions you will follow as long as you present here. You will not leave the palace. You will not speak or interact with any of the higherups or guests. You will not use ninjutsu or any sort of chakra moulding unless you gain permission from the Captain Commander of the Sworn Swords, or from the Empress. You will not disturb the peace and order in the palace, and you will not visit any rooms or halls that are being used for, and by, the higher ups or guests. Is all of that understood?" He asked, keeping her eyes on her.

"Yes, understood. I won't speak to anyone, won't leave the room and I won't practice any kind of chakra training without permission from the highest authorities." Kuni said in the clearest voice she could. The Sworn Sword glanced at her a few more seconds before leaving the room and closing the door behind her. Setting down her backpack and sitting on the bed, Kuni finally figured out why the beginning of the trip felt familiar.

She was in another cell. A fancier one with better room and food, but a cell none the less.[/fieldbox]

Amegakure,
Operation : Swift Retribution.

A collab between Tim, Zane, Jason and Lesli.

Summary:
With Team 8 having gathered, Aiko decides to brief them one last time before they head out to conduct a raid on what is likely an outpost of zealots and insurgents, if they will go by the information given to Aiko by the ANBU. The team heads out, eager and determined to settle the score with the enemy.

[spoili]
They had all arrived. Except for Hiraku but that was okay. The Chuunin had the task to be the backup. With somebody being away from combat and able to know where the team had gone to could provide beneficially, for in case that they wouldn't return within ten hours. Then Hiraku was needed to alarm Eiji. Turning to the present genin, Aiko gave them each a stern gaze.

"Today, we will strike back at the zealots and insurgents. Today," the woman started on a stern tone, "We will take the fight back to them. We will reverse the roles and make clear who should be on the run. Today," her eyes narrowed, "No mercy will be given to them. Cause they had none for those who already fell to their plans, actions and weapons."

A pause followed the words of the jounin before she would continue. "Most of you aren't really experienced to the point that I would be entirely content or comfortable with dragging you into the attack we will be launching today. But if we won't succeed then one part of the Zealots will get away, which is worse than just looking bad in comparison with the ANBU, who also will perform a surprise attack on the other locations that have been uncovered, to hold Zealots." Letting the words sink in Aiko would turn half around and point into the direction that they would later head towards.
"When we are going, I want each of you to be vigilant. I will be leading the front attack and I expect each of you to fill in the roles I give to you. Kazumo," the green eyes of Aiko settled on the Sarutobi, "Out of everybody here, you're the most known with my fighting style. I have no time to go over to explain everything to Tomiko and Neji, so I trust you keeping the rearguard. Shoot everybody that attempts to flank us or get past me," then her gaze went towards Tomiko, "I want you to be near the rear. Try to shoot with your bow. Just try to keep anybody from mine or Neji's flank. Neji," there was a longer pause as Aiko turned her attention towards the Uchiha. She was aware that Neji had managed to cause some distrust over him, but she doubted he had intended to provide some aid to the Zealots.

"You're at my left flank in the fray. Make sure that I won't need to worry much about my left and I will keep the right clean. Now," turning around Aiko raised her left hand and gestured them to follow her. "Time for some retribution."

Tomiko swallowed nervously as Aiko spoke, it just dawning on her exactly what was happening. She hoped the others wouldn't notice how scared she was at the moment, of what was to come. She looked around frantically for a few moments, trying to locate Hiraku and only being more confused when her brother was nowhere to be found. Taking a few deep breaths, the genin would make an attempt to calm herself as the roles for each of them was handed out. Whenever Aiko finished, Tomiko spoke up softly to ask a quick question. "Ma'am, should I keep my Byakugan active to see if I can spot anything? She said, hoping it wasn't too stupid of a question.

"Once we're inside, I figure that would be best. But until then, conserve your chakra. I figure we all will need to watch our stamina and chakra on this mission," was Aiko's answer.

They headed in a fast pace towards the place where the ANBU had managed to locate unusual chakra signatures. After some more investigation, it had led to the conclusion that the activities were clearly from the insurgents and zealots. It was an old tall building that the team would have to clear out. On the perimeter of the building, Aiko made the team come to a halt. Eyeing the situation, she couldn't detect anybody that was on the watch. As she had expected as it would be foolish to have people on the watch from where they could be picked out from the open. What seemed to be an eternity, Aiko broke the silence.

"Kazumo," she said in a soft tone, just audible enough for her team, "One the second floor, the third window from the right. It is broken, but I saw some movement there. I want you to be at the ready and shoot at anything there that moves. Neji, Tomiko," Aiko threw a glance over her shoulder as she gestured them to be at the ready to follow her.
Then without any warning, the jounin sprinted from the alley that they were in towards the building. Her eyes were focused on the opening, a broken window. Not halting in speed Aiko vaulted into the building through the opening. The moment she would be inside, her right hand shot towards her kunai pouch to slid out a kunai. Coming to a halt, there was no sign of anybody. But that didn't mean she could lower her guard.

The genin bit her lip nervously, as they stood in the alley and stared at the building. So that was where the enemy was hiding. As much as she wanted to pay them back for her team, the girl couldn't help that feeling of fear in her gut. This was real, people could get hurt and die in there. She could die in there. Her eyes closed for a brief moment as she offered a silent prayer to whoever may be watching overhead. While she wasn't very religious normally, Tomiko figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

As they stood there waiting, Tomiko was rather thankful for her half-mask. Hopefully it would help hide the fear and doubt she was currently feeling from the others. Still, she had a mission to deal with, and with that in mind she focused her attention back on the building. It seemed a bit... run down. Several of the windows seemed to be broken, and she wondered why they would choose that as a hideout?

When Aiko spoke up about the movement in the window, the genin cast a look towards it but couldn't see any sign of what the jounin had seen. However, her attention was drawn away from that window whenever Aiko called Neji and her by name, then took off towards the building. After a brief moment, Tomiko took off after Aiko. Sprinting with everything she had, Tomiko quickly made it to the building and vaulted through the window. Barely making it through the window, Tomiko landed and stumbled for a second before catching herself. Making a quick seal with a hand, Tomiko let her Byakugan activate, as she suddenly became aware of all directions. Drawing her bow and nocking an arrow, the genin didn't notice anything yet.

He was given his orders and he would follow them without question. Hopefully it didn't come back to bite him in the ass. They would arrive at the location and it fit the bill of a lacation where possible enemies would hold out. He would wait for further instruction which was when sensei spoke to him, telling him about a possible movement at the second floor third window on the right. He would notch and arrow at her order to shoot at anything there that moves. While the others would be with her, and not long after that she took off sprinting along with Tomiko and Neji. "Stay safe Sensei..." Kazumo would mumble in Chonobi.

A few moments would pass and at the window again a dark figure would be present, he would pull back on his bowstring and wait and the moment he saw the figure move a bit, his arrow would fly through the air and right through the window. Hitting the figure, not quite sure where he hit it though, but he would notch another arrow and have it pulled back too. In case the figure moved again.

Neji looked on as his other squadmates arrived, Tomiko got to the spot about 2 seconds after he did. Then the other one Kazumo showed up. Neji was not really fond of him after what had happened, but now was not a time to think any illwill towards him. They had a mission to complete and would as far as Neji knew they would both act professionally. Aiko sensei started explaining their mission. Her words rung deep inside Neji, her words were inspiring to him. He wanted to make sure he did well on this mission and not mess up. He had already meassed up enough and he was tired of it. Aiko explained their different roles, Neji was supposed to guard the left flank as they would make their way to where the zealots were hiding.

They reached their destination. They stared at the building they would be infiltrating. There were no guards outside but that made sense. The zealots were in hiding and if they had guards outside it would have been obvious that they were hiding in this building. Aiko spoke up and said that Neji and Tomiko would be going inside th building with her, while Kazumo would stay outside and provide cover. Aiko sensei then took off in a full sprint and jumped into the building. Tomiko ran after her and barely made it into the building. Neji took off into a full sprint and jumped through up into the buiding through the window. Neji landed next to Aiko and Tomiko. He looked around not seeing much of anything. Neji deicded to not activate his sharingan just yet, he figured he should save some chakra for when he would need it. He looked to Aiko sensei waiting for what her orders were.

It remained silent. Focusing all her skills and senses on trying to detect any signal of somebody other than her genin near them, Aiko couldn't detect anything. Without Tomiko or Neji stating anything, Aiko would raise her right hand. Turning half around, she would first point at Tomiko and gesture towards the right side of the door that would lead further into the building. She repeated the same with Neji, pointing that he had to get to the left side of the door. With that order given in silence Aiko would head towards the window. For a moment she would wave towards Kazumo, gesturing afterwards for him to get inside as well. Waiting for the Sarutobi genin to be inside, Aiko would click with her tongue. A signal that the genin should pay attention. Shortly afterwards she would signal that they should follow her. Hopefully, they would remember the formation that had been instructed before.

Now they would face the tricky part. While the ANBU had scanned the place, likely with sensory ninjutsu, Aiko had nobody on the team who could conduct sensory on long range. They were dependent on Tomiko's eyes. Though Aiko was confident in her own instincts and skills, due to her mastery over Silent Killing, that she would be able to detect any hostility before being ambushed. Her hand reached towards the door, an eerie silence reigning surpreme in the room. Slowly Aiko would open the door and move into the hallway. It was certainly not a place where the occupants had cared much for hygiene or cleaning the place. Slowly Aiko continued to lead the front, throwing only once a glance over her shoulder to see if the team was following her. Moving, the team would reach the end of the hallway. Seeing that their options existed out of to go up or down a staircase or go to the right, likely exiting the building again, Aiko signaled them to follow her upstairs. The wood creaked softly beneath the weight as the team would move upwards.

Having climbed the stairs Aiko threw a look around. Nothing that indicated any presence of anybody but them. Then abruptly a chilly breeze would move through the hall. The hair on Aiko's neck would rise as the jounin tried to figure out why it felt familiar. "Get ready," she whispered, a stern tone ringing through. Walking further into the hall, Aiko watched the doors. They were a few on the left as on the right, all closed. Feeling her heart starting to beat faster Aiko's left hand would take over the kunai in her right hand, as her right hand would lower towards her kunai pouch

Then without any warning, the door at the end would fling open. A man, looking at the age of thirty, crawled out as an arrow was stuck in his neck. The man panted as he seemed to be in a great deal of pain. Aiko had tensed for a moment, but would relax. Then her eyes widened as she turned and whistled hard. Just a fraction of a second later the doors would be kicked open as shouts would fill the air, driving the silence away. A man with a long knife would lunge towards Kazumo from the right. A woman with two knives would make an attempt to throw one of her knives at Tomiko, from her left. Neji would be threatened from his right by a man with a short blade, trying to kick the genin in the side.

From the front, three more hostiles would pour out of the room that had been opened by the man, with the arrow in his neck. Facing the prospect of an ambush, Aiko didn't stand still by the fact that Tomiko hadn't been able to spot them. They likely had suppressed their chakra to remain cloaked from her eyes and further sensory techniques. Readying herself, Aiko would start to fend off the three men that attempted to get past her, to get at the genin.

Seeing his target go down he would still keep his one arrow notched ready just in case when he spotted another figure. Prepared to aim, he stopped once he saw Aiko waving him to come over, which he took off sprinting and would enter through the way they had entered. Coming up behind them, he would keep his eyes on their rear as that was his place in the formation. As the others moved ahead of him, he would slowly follow along watching out for any figures that would enter the hallway. One thing was true something suspicious was going on in the run down place, mostly since the inside gave off more bad vibes than the outside did.

They would then begin their ascent up the stairs where that one person he shot should be on. Then once on the top, a chilly breeze hit him causing his eyes to widen and the immediate pullback on his bowstring. Sensei sure didn't have to tell him twice, not a few moments later the door on the end would fling wide open causing Kazumo to turn around prepared to fire when he saw a man crawling with an arrow in his neck. Was the man still alive from that kind of wound? That was impressive but worrying, if he was alive then if there was anyone else. He could have had time to warn them.

Sure enough, Sensei picked up on that possibility with a sharp whistle to them, which not even a few second after it men would kick in their doors. Several men now were in the middle of their formation, with one lunging at him from the right. Which was rather easy for he already pulled back arrow to find a place in the man's chest. Kazumo would move out of the way so he didn't crash land on him. Yet as the man at the end of the hall made sure, the lethal wound still gave them time to move around. So taking a kunai from his pouch he would throw it at the man's head.

Tomiko was already a tad on edge, making their way through the building. She wasn't seeing anything from her Byakugan, and that wasn't something the genin liked. She began to wonder if the enemy knew that technique Aiko had mentioned, where they could hide their chakra. However, her thoughts were suddenly cut off as they went upstairs and she felt that chilly breeze. Remembering... whatever it was from her scouting with Koike, the girl grew a bit more on edge as she still couldn't pick up anything. Pulling the bowstring back, she prepared in case anybody attacked.

An instant later a door slammed open at the end of the hall, and Tomiko just barely bit back a yelp of surprise. How was that man still alive!? Taking half a step backwards, Tomiko had just enough time to register Aiko's whistle before the doors on either side opened up. From her left a knife flew past Tomiko, causing a moment of searing pain as it nicked the genin. Twisting in that direction and letting the arrow fly, Tomiko watched her opponent get hit firmly in the shoulder. The genin swore under her breath as she pulled a kunai from her pouch, and hoped she had remembered to load the wristbow earlier...

Neji watched as Aiko gave her orders to the squad, Neji quickly made his way to the left side of the door as Aiko had instructed. He watched as she waved for Kazumo to come in the building as well. She then went to the door and slowly opened it. The squad quickly and quietly went into the hallway. There was nothing to see in the hallway. The squad made their way to the end where they entered a staircase.

Aiko ordered the squad to follow her upstairs. Neji was right behind her as they made their way upstairs. The reached the top of the stairs and there was nothing. No sign that there was anybody in this building at all. A sudden cold breeze hit the squad at the top of the stairs. Neji thought nothing of it, he figured it was just an old, damp and cold building. All of a sudden a door flew open and a man crawled out of the doorway. He had an arrow in his neck. This was the man that Aiko had told Kazumo to shoot, somehow he was still alive, which was surprising and also not good for the squad. If he was still alive that meant he could alert others that they were in the building.

Aiko then whistled, Neji activated his sharingan and started pulling a kunai blade out of his bag. Just as he was pulling out the blade they were ambushed. Enemies from every direction were coming at them. Neji looked to his right as the man with a short blade was coming at him. The man tried kicking him in his side. He was able to pick this up with his sharingan showing him what the man was trying to do. Neji rolled to the side to dodge the kick and then lunged forward at the man. His kunai blade and the man's short blade scrapping each other, as the two struggled against each other. They both jumped back, Neji grabbed a shuriken from his bag and threw it at the man striking him in the gut.

The situation shifted very fast into one of violence. The first man that tried to approach Aiko, came at her with a long knife. In a rapid movement the jounin would throw the kunai in her left hand. The weapon had little trouble to find its mark through the air into the space between the eyes, causing the attacker to sink through his legs and fall on the ground. As Aiko readied the kunai in her right hand, she wouldn't have the same space and time to throw another kunai at the second attacker. The man unleashed a short yell, trying to hack at her with a short hatchet. Moving a step backwards, Aiko's left hand grasped the man's arm - effectively preventing him with her own strength to attempt to swing instantly back at her. Planting a knee in his side quickly, she managed to push the man backwards as the third attacker came in. Being forced another step backwards, Aiko attempted to defend herself but the third attacker managed to land a blow with a kick to her side. Causing the jounin to stumble into one of the rooms.
Recovering quickly, the two men hurried into the room, trying to take advantage of more space to attack together. Stepping once more backwards, Aiko parried and blocked a few more attacks as she tried to find an opening to end her assaulters.

The man started to get back up but slumped to the ground when a kunai entered the back of his head, which meant his guy was down. He saw Aiko being pushed back into a room where two men began to engage her, causing him to frown at the other two that attacked Tomiko and Neji to still be standing. He notched another arrow and would aim at the one engaging Tomiko, who seemed pretty distracted after Tomiko let an arrow sink into her shoulder. Only for an arrow pierce through the neck of said attacker. Kazumo shot Tomiko a look that said, now would be a good time for her to stab.

Neji watched as his shuriken struck his opponent in the gut, the shuriken was sticking out of the man's gut as he yelled in pain. The man was still standing even though there was blood starting to seep out of his wound from where the shuriken was sticking. He put up his blade as he stood to wait for Neji to attack. Neji rushed forward ducking under the man's blade and with his kunai blade slashed up. This time striking the mans chest. The man fell to the ground as he laid there motionless, blood pouring out of his gut and chest. Neji turned around and looked as both of his squadmates took out their targets as well. Neji saw Aiko-sensei get backed into a room, as she was fighting two enemies at once.

The genin had not been expecting an arrow suddenly to sprout from the woman's neck. Looking towards Kazumo, she noticed his look and nodded before closing the distance between herself and her opponent. In a swift motion, she reached back and drew her ninjato. Following that with a swift cut, she opened the woman's stomach and took a quick step back. As her opponent fell to the floor, Tomiko felt that sick feeling inside again. Returning the weapon to its sheath, the genin went for her bow once more, ready to go help Aiko.

She had seen enough. Managing to keep herself standing and fighting, Aiko was focusing on trying to spot what kind of taijutsu style the men were using. There wasn't much that she could discover and thus she decided to switch from defending to attacking. One of the men attempted to land a punch, which caused Aiko to lean away and raise her elbow. Planting her elbow with a smash into the man's face, causing him to stumble backwards Aiko would launch a punch from elbowing one attacker, forcing the other to sustain a punch. Grunting Aiko would not allow the man any respite. As quick as the fist was pulled back, Aiko would kick the man between the legs. A loud moan escaped the pained man as the foot of the jounin firmly landed a hit against his 'jewels'. As he sank one a knee, the left fist of Aiko moved rapidly forwards. The soft sound of something cracking as her knuckles slammed against the throat resonated.
Turning around the other man had recovered, attempting to move in with a kick. Aiko just stepped aside as she intercepted the leg with both hands. Grabbing the leg by the ankles she would use her strength and the speed of the man to lift the leg up, causing him to drop on his back. Without halting the jounin would lift her right foot up and stomp it on the man's face. Firmly planting it on the man's face, she would give a sudden twist, before stomping once more, this time on the man's throat. Releasing the leg the Cho frowned for a moment before turning to the opening of the room. Spitting on the floor before she left the room, Aiko threw a sideways glance at her team. Just in time to spot that the last attacker dropped on the ground. "Come on," the jounin ordered as she would start to walk again, rolling briefly with her right shoulder.

Walking towards the man who had choked on his own blood, with the arrow of Kazumo having hit its throat, Aiko knelt down. Pulling the arrow out, she briefly inspected the man. Nothing interesting but a few coins was what she found. Turning half around, she would throw in an arc the arrow at Kazumo. "Same formation," she mumbled, keeping her voice just barely audible for the genin to hear her. Getting up she would start to lead the squad further. The silence of before would dawn back as the team would once more climb a stair case. Only for a few metal bars to fall down behind them as everybody of the team climbed the stairs. Throwing a look behind her, Aiko frowned. But from the hallway in front of them, a cold breeze would once more greet them. This time even colder than before.

Tomiko followed up on her attacked and quite brutally too. She even looked like it fazed her, Neji finished his too but has he killed before? He certainly acts like he has. As Tomiko's attacker fell to the ground, he walked over placing his right hand on her face, and with his left yanked his arrow out from her neck. He then pulled out Tomiko's arrow and held it out for her to take. One might wonder why he wasn't worrying about his sensei and that was because he knew two guys wouldn't be enough. So when she strolled out and told them same formations, he would catch his arrow and nod resuming watch at the rear with an arrow notched.

So as they continued and ascended more stairs he pulled back on his bowstring when metal bars fell behind them, only problem was he found nobody that caused it. Was it perhaps a delayed trap? Yet as he thought this the same chilling presence hit again, already knowledgable about what kind of person can cause this. What he wasn't knowledgable about, was the fact this one could control their presence.

The girl reached out with a shaky hand to take the arrow offered back to her, trying to avoid looking at the corpse she had caused. When Aiko emerged from the room she had been in, the genin allowed herself a slight sigh of relief. Everybody was ok, or so she thought. Taking her position near the back on the formation once more, Tomiko followed closely as she wrestled with her thoughts over killing that woman. It was killed or be killed, right? So why did it bother her so much...

The sound of metal bars slamming down behind them caused the genin to turn, a small curse leaving her lips. Then the chilly presence from before came, but only stronger this time. Immediately Tomiko readied an arrow, noticing Kazumo doing the same. Perhaps he'd encountered whatever it was some time before? Either way, the only way they could go was forward. Looking to her allies, Miko couldn't help but feel dread for what lay ahead.

That was the first time Neji had ever killed anyone. He looked down at the man's corpse and he didn't exactly know what to think. It was part of being a shinobi or at least that was what his father had told him when he graduated the academy and became a genin. He knew that most likely at some point he would have to kill people, to protect himself, his squadmates, the people he cared for and the empire, he knew that at some point he would have to most likely kill someone. He had thought about what it might feel like, right now he wasn't exactly sure how he felt and he didn't know if that was a good or bad thing. The only thing he knew right now was that he needed to push on. For the sake of his squad and the mission no matter what he was feeling inside was that he had to push on.

He saw Aiko-sensei come out of the room after taking down her two opponents and ordered them to get back in formation. Neji got on her left flank and followed behind her as they made their way back to the staircase. All of a sudden a few metal bars fell behind them. Neji turned around as the red eyes of his sharingan looked around, but it didn't seem like anyone was there. He turned back around and continued to climb the stairs. Another cold chill this time even colder then the first one came. Neji made sure his kunai blade in hand was ready to go, he wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen, but he didn't have a great feeling about what lie ahead.

The advancing army of...

latest

The air was filled with the sound of boots marching, drums being used to dictate the rhythm as the endless stream of men continued on the road. Back in the distance various columns of dark smoke were rising, reaching towards the sky. Some of the men had blood and dirt on their clothing, the only evidence together with the burning buildings that a town had been in their way. Not many had been lucky to get away from the marching doom that had headed their way. Captains kept order, using an iron fist of style to keep the men both marching and prevent anybody from thinking to challenge the established order. Not all were soldiers as there were some men dressed in dark brown cloaks, carrying books and making vague gestures with their right hand. Even though the average member of this marching host seemed to be garbed in crude gear and carrying weapons of varying quality, making them look as if all the brigands, highwaymen and mercenaries had banded together into one army, none of the religious looking men was harmed. Members of the dreaded force even seemed to go out of their way, either dreading the religious men or respecting them.
Heading towards the east, the army just kept marching in a large and broad column. Various units of men on horseback formed scout and patrol units, almost giving the idea that they were also on the look-out that none of the footsoldiers would attempt to break rank and run away.

On a near hilltop, a group of soldiers had taken their position. Their equipment made them stand a stark contrast with the advancing army. A mixture of chainmail, leather and padded clothing in a uniform as there were various members who wore a crimson cloak, garbed in dark red clothing as well having a hat of straw. At their waist, a boiled leather harness and their weapons varying much more than the other present troops.
The group would hold their position. Looking down on the immense large host that passed by.

"Any word of the opposing forces?"
"Yes. They have gathered at the eastern coast. The last report made it clear that they are gathering together. Their numbers indicate that they don't yet expect us. I do hope to keep the element of surprise."

Two men, dressed in better quality gear and having better weapons on them, watched the advancing army. A large number of soldiers, supply carts, camp followers and mounts whipped up dust into the air. Filling it with the noise of men talking, complaining and more.
A man dressed in a refined white uniform, that seemed more at home in a temple of some sort, frowned.
" General Tai, I expect that we will be able to overcome the heathens. The Maker blesses his children. Doubting the Chant is a sin, one that won't be forgiven," the priest said, shooting a stern gaze at the general. "The heathens will be defeated for their false deities won't save them."

General Tai nodded slowly. "Yes, your grace," the man replied, "Forgive me. I just wish to make certain that we will be both be able to return at home, spreading the news that the heathens are no match for our divine might."
The words of the general caused the priest to bellow a laughter. One with little joy found in it. "Don't worry too much. This holy war will be foretold into the centuries. The world will know and fear the wrath of the Maker's blessed soldiers. Our names will gain immortality once we have crushed the first big heathen opposition. Besides, this is a mere fraction of our true might. How many fights in this army again?"
"With the latest reinforcements, around 120.000 men strong," was Tai's answer. He rested his left hand on the handle of his sword. Knowing that they would triumph with ease over the much smaller force of the western nations, Tai still had a worried expression on his face.
"I just hope that their false gods and the demons that they worship won't cause too many brothers to perish. I think it is in the best of interest that you and the---"
The priest raised his right hand and frowned. A cold chill ran past Tai's back as the sudden breeze indicated that the man was on thin ice.
"Don't doubt the force too much. Nor the blessing of the Maker. Their false deities and the demons that they worship won't be able to rescue them from our wrath. And besides, what worth is this life? We will, at least, secure our place with the Maker. Won't we, my good general?"

"Without a doubt, your grace," Tai replied, flashing a grin as he looked once more at the bypassing troops. The host continued on its way westwards. Onwards to bring the fight to the heathens. Those who didn't yet embrace the Chant. But soon would be if everything would go as planned.

[fieldbox=Meeting of commanders, salmon]
In the Wolf country, near the eastern coast.

A collab written between Chromehound, Zane620 and Gerontis.

Summary:
The commanders of the 'allied' force hold a meeting. They discuss what lies ahead of them and how they will travel together as the first snow of winter starts to descend on the eastern continent.

[spoili]
He couldn't say what he thought about it all. Sitting on the small stool provided by one of his soldiers, Satoshi sat down. Two more stools were provided, one for each of the commanders of the Imperial and Republican forces. While he had met the commander of the Republican force, Satoshi couldn't help but wonder if this meeting would go smoothtly. Knowing all too well that there was still some bad blood between the Republic and Empire, due to the end of the Great War, Satoshi had send his messengers with that the commanders could bring a small retinue to this meeting. It was in the midst between the camps of the three armies, on a plain field. While the sky was filled with dark grey clouds Satoshi was hopeful that it would stay dry. Leaning forward, on one of his knees, the Jun rubbed his chin with his right hand. The allied force should be large enough to go pretty much unchallenged into the Wolf country, or at least that was what he figured.

Reinforcements had arrived for everyone along with the Imperial shits arriving as well, they had more troops than his force or Satoshi's did which was to be expected from them. Yet today Satoshi requested his presence and the Imperials for what their next move would be. He honestly didn't want to even aid these shits, he had been here first trying to get the people to call for the Republic for aid but then Kumo came in and made all of that pointless. He still had no clue why that sexy demon of a woman sent him here instead of an actual commander. Oh who was he kidding he was way more expendable than someone she trusted. Yet since Satoshi was allowing them to bring a few people he decided to bring none, his people knew where he was going. This was also most likely a test to see who had no trust and would bring peopel for what may or may not happen. He would arrive at the meeting spot he would spot the man of the hour sitting. He gave the man a head nod as he sat down at one of the provided stools.

It had been a struggle, to put it mildly, getting away from the camp. Koike and Saki had not... taken kindly... to his decision to go alone to the meeting. At one point Hayate had been afraid they would try and keep him prisoner in his tent until he agreed with them. It didn't really matter that he outranked them. He didn't try to pull rank. Saki and Koike were two of his closest friends. He trusted them with his life and he knew it was for that exact reason why they wanted to keep him safe. Hayate, however, wanted to make a good impression when meeting the commanding officers of the joint forces for the first time. Bringing a large retinue would not help with that, not in his opinion. It was not a matter of proving whose was bigger than whose, this was supposed to be a meeting where they could learn to work together.

Hayate was aware of the, somewhat tumlutuous relationship between their nations. As such, any display that would aggravate that relationship was not something he would accept. He had managed, after a fairly extensive argument, to get Koike and Saki to agree to that. Walking towards the meeting point, Hayate wondered if he had made the best descision. Shaking the thought aside, he approached, spotting the other two commanders already present. Noticing that the Kiri representative had not brought a retinue of his own, Hayate felt a hint of relief that he had made the right choice. Hopefully...

Bowing his head slightly towards the two men, Hayate took his seat, ready to begin.

First to arrive was the commander of the Republican forces. A court nod was returned, accompanied with a friendly smile being flashed. Noticing that man hadn't brought any retinue caused Satoshi to wonder why. It did bring a message of subtle confidence over to Satoshi. Only to shift into feeling slightly bad as the young commander of the Akinian forces arrived as well. With no retinue. Once more Satoshi would reply with a court nod, only this time a faint smile. Before he spoke up, he gestured to his own present guard. Sending them away Satoshi would remain silent as the group of elite troops would take their distance, wavering clearly by the sudden signal that they were dismissed from the meeting.

As they were now alone, just the three of them, Satoshi found it almost poetic. Three commander of three different armies, just sitting together. Before Satoshi would speak up a white object slowly fall from the sky. Causing Satoshi's eyes to shift upwards as it would slowly start to snow. Throwing a look back at the other commanders Satoshi would remain seated. "I welcome you both," he said with a friendly tone present in his voice, "I hope that the travel wasn't too much of a trouble. As we are all here on the behalf of the treaty to aid the Republic to subdue the unrest that is starting to threaten the peace and stability between our realms, I wish to start this meeting with some information." Pausing, Satoshi would continue to brief them in about the last few events that had happened. The hostile contacts that his forces had made so far and his own worries on how worse it could be once they would move deeper into the land.
"So as you might have guessed, I was hoping that the commander of the Republican force could share a bit of information regarding the land that we will head into. This used to be a vassal of the Republic, after all."

Shortly after his arrival the last commander would arrive which irked Kiro. Satoshi and himself were near their thirties or in them, yet the Imperial shits send a child to lead their armies. He had to resist the urge to sigh out loud and shake his head, simply giving the child a head nod back. He had to give the little man credit, he had some balls to not bring his own retinue. Something Satoshi here did bring, so watching him wave them off made him smile a bit. They were now however all alone, when snow began to fall causing him to groan a bit. He wasn't a huge fan on snow, so hopefully it passed by or didn't snow too much. Satoshi would welcome them and then follow it up with why they were here. He then put attention on himself asking him to explain the land a bit which was a simple enough task.

"Well as you know, near the shores the land is mostly grasslands, some small hills here and there a few trees, but nothing that would cause worry.... yet. As you head further into the land more trees start to cover the place, making marching through it a pain as you can't really keep an organized group without them having to split off every now and then. There is also two rivers that lead towards the Marsh. One in the south and one in the north. You might have caught a glimpse of that river Commander Satoshi. Basically the further we head in the more cautious we need to be. Mostly since we have these attackers that can't be sensed." Kiro would finish speaking, letting whoever wished to speak do so.

Nodding politely as Satoshi welcomed them, Hayate felt something small and cold land on his hand. Glancing up, he saw more flakes beginning to fall. A smile touched his lips and he wondered if Koike had some strange omen for this. Knowing him, he had probably made some joke about the weather, causing this in the first place. Hayate did not mind, however, he enjoyed the snow. Turning his attention to Commander Yuuki as he began speaking, Hayate took note of the man's words. It sounded like it would require a large amount of organization as they continued to press forward. He was confident in his troops and their abilities, he only hoped his leadership was up to snuff.

When the man finished speaking, Hayate looked towards Satoshi before turning back. "Do you have scouts familiar with the area? Might be a good idea to have our scouts work together to map this out."

Listening to the other commanders it did strike Satoshi that the Imperial commander was quite young. He wouldn't judge the other on his age as there would be a reason why he had been entrusted to such a large force. His attention was quickly back at what Yuuki told them. Nodding as the Republican commander stated about the river, Satoshi would speak up after Hayate had spoken. "I have send out various scouts. So I have managed to get some understanding of the surrounding area. With the latest events, however, I have been more careful on sending my troops to scout around. Wanted to be certain that my numbers wouldn't dwindle too much until both your forces would arrive," was Satoshi's reply. He thought about it and threw a look at Yuuki.

"I do want to move further inward. The problem is that I don't know this land as well as you and your troops. I suggest that you form the vanguard while me and the Imperials will keep your flanks secured. I can lend some of my scouts to aid you while we head to a favourable position."

Commander Hayate suggested sending scouts out which Satoshi mentioned he had done but was being careful on it as well. Didn't want his number to dwindle before they got here which he could understand. It was what the man suggested next that started drawing some red flags. A unknown force that could pop out of nowhere with seemingly unending numbers and he wanted his force to be the shield pretty much. He remained silent for a few seconds before looking at Satoshi.

"I understand this suggestion, it is smart having us lead but I would need to know more about these.... attackers before I commit to this. From the little I heard they aren't at all common to these parts. Rather not throw my people head first into what could be a bloodbath." Kiro would reply with, wondering how exactly Satoshi would react. He wasn't fully denying that he didn't trust this plan, but it was clear enough he was skeptical on the idea.

Looking between Satoshi and Yuuki as they spoke, Hayate wondered about the plan the former had proposed. It was not a terrible plan, not at face value, however it had some potential problems. Thinking for a moment, the young Hyuzu scratched his chin. It definitely made sense to send in the Republic forces first as they had the most experience here. However, it was also putting them at most risk and Hayate wondered how Yuuki would take that. He did not have to wait long as the Repulic Commander spoke right after Satoshi.

"My scouts would also be willing to join yours at the front, Commander Yuuki. I can also understand the desire to have more information before sending your people into harm's way." Looking at Yuuki, Hayate paused, still thinking. "Are there any areas you have encountered these... attackers more commonly? Places we could dispatch our troops strategically?"

Understanding the point of Yuuki, Satoshi listened to what Hayate also said. "I can understand your concern and hesistation," he told Yuuki, "If it is desired, I will make various formations of my force join in the vanguard. I have various good cavalry formations that can bring some support," Satoshi further added. The question of Hayate wouldn't go unanswered for long. "As for the attacks, they have been sparse. Only two attacks have occured. Though the smaller attack of a team and hostile contact seemed to be more of a coincidence than a coordinated attack from the unknown party. The foes that had launched the ambush haven't appeared anywhere, so far my scouts have reported back."

Kiro would remain silent as Hayate offered his own scouts to join the front with his he gave the child a small smile before his next question. Which Satoshi would answer while offering some of his own people for the vangaurd as well. Kiro would rub his chin and nod. "That should be acceptable, would give my men some comfort if a bit of each force is in the Vanguard besides us. Yet I can lead us further in, however it depends on how you wish to proceed through. Do we make a beeline through the woods, or stick near the river? With the river we don't have to worry that much about being flanked from that side, however it will limit any form of retreat if needed. Of course the same can be said about the woods, more room for retreat but it will be more chaotic if combat becomes a thing." Kiro spoke allowing for the commanders to voice their opinion.

Satoshi answered his question regarding the attacks, but it was not an incredibly specific answer. Hayate couldn't blame the man, however. It seemed that things had been hectic all around and details were probably quite difficult to come by. Something else that Satoshi had mentioned, caught his attention, and Hayate turned to the commander. "Are your cavalry used to fighting in the forest, Commander Satoshi?" From what he had learned, forests could heavily disrupt the full effectiveness of cavalry forces who were not familiar with the terrain. Hayate also knew that many of the Imperial cavalry units trained in the forest, but even with that training he would be hesitant to send them near the front in an unfamiliar forest.

As Yuuki presented their options, Hayate looked back over at him.Thinking for a moment, he weighed the options in his mind. "How close to the treeline is the river? If it is close enough, we could potentially have the best of both worlds without spreading too thin." Glancing between the two commanders, Hayate waited for their answers.

Glad that the suggestion was accepted as Satoshi had feared for a moment that the cooperation would find its end a few moments ago, he listened to what the other two said. The questions of Yuuki caused Satoshi to consider what way would be their best approach. For a moment he almost forgot that the commander of the Akinian force was a kid. He wondered how many of the Akinian youth were educated regarding strategy as the Hyuzu's suggestion wasn't that shabby at all. "Some are used to fight in rough terrain. But the majority isn't. Hills and plains won't be much of a problem, but I don't think that they will be effective in woodlands." Thinking about what was all said, the commander spoke up again.

"Our goal is to stabilise the country again, to avoid a worse situation than we are already facing," Satoshi began, "In order to get a good grip, we have to get order back in the biggest city, which is more land inwards. If we move land inwards with the river at our side, it will be like Commander Yuuki stated. We won't have to worry about one flank but it will limit our maneuverability. In the woods, we face some problems there as well. Think if we can navigate the majority of our forces between the river and treeline that we will be able to travel without much problem. I can send out scout parties that are used to forest areas to keep an eye out there. Suppose that it is in the best of our interest to also get moving as soon as possible."

Hayate's question cause Kiro too look at him and think a few moments before answer."Around one hundred, maybe two hundred feet away. Not close, but not far either. Keeping it close would be wise though, saves giving water to the horses if a source is present." Kiro answered before Satoshi would offer to send out scout parties that are used to forest area, to make sure no one would get a huge drop on them. "If you want, I can have some scouts also patrol the forest as well. the more eyes we have on that area the better."

Nodding as Satoshi explained that some of his cavalry was familiar with fighting in difficult terrain, Hayate's thoughts traveled to the path ahead. He wondered how it would be, fighting alongside two different nations. Each with their own tactics, strategies and formations. Not to mention they would be fighting in an unknown territory. It would be an interesting campaign, that much was certain. Satoshi and Yuuki both suggested that they could send scouts into the forest and Hayate nodded again. "The more eyes we can get in the forest, the better." Turning to both commanders, he scratched his chin. "In that same regard, I would like to propose that we have a group scouts prepared to watch the area behind us as we proceed. Scouts, along with a small contingent that is prepared to cover the rear in the event of a full retreat being necessary." Sitting a little straighter, he was more than aware that he was the youngest person present and, as such, he felt that he might need to try a little harder to get his points taken seriously. "If we have to turn back, for any reason, it will be a lot easier to have a route planned out and knowing that it is clear."

"Hmm," Satoshi listened as he thought about it. "We will then deploy our scouts in a joint effort. I will take the middle of the marching force. With the Republicans taking the vanguard, the Imperial forces can serve as rearguard. My cavalry will serve to provide close support to the scouts, might it come to any skirmish with hostile forces. I suggest we will move over two days." Throwing each of the two other commanders a look, Satoshi realised something.

There was no turning back once they would be going.

Mizuchi Hojo | Team 3 Chuunin | Storm Guard Member | Wolf Country, Encampment

Glancing at the dummy before her, the Chuunin gave a small sigh. She'd much prefer a live opponent, but at the moment she seemed to be fresh out of those at the moment. Most of the others around the yard seemed otherwise occupied with their own training. Scanning over the other the troops training around the yard, she briefly wondered how they would fare against their enemy. She saw that mission, with the seemingly endless horde rushing their troops, and the bodies all around. That had been one of the worse parts, the dead. Lifting her weapon, the Chuunin focused in on the dummy, imagining the enemy she had faced on that night. As she hacked away at the dummy with renewed vigor, it wasn't fear she felt, but anger. Anger over the bodies, that the enemy had ended their lives so early. Despite how she may feel about others, Mizuchi was not fond of losing comrades. As she continued to hack away at the dummy, aiming to keep her form sharp, her thoughts continued to drift through the events of that night.

So lost she was in attacking the dummy, and her thoughts, that she never noticed the sound of another approaching. "What did that thing do to piss you off?" Came a familiar voice from behind, and Mizuchi finished up her set of strikes before turning to face the voice. A small smile grew on her lips as she looked towards the other. "Ah, no. Just thinking and getting carried away." She said as she sheathed the weapon and walked past him without another word.

Soon enough they'd be standing a bit away from the others at the field, and Mizuchi would briefly embrace the soldier before taking a few steps back. "Managed to get out of training again?" She asked, a more friendly tone than before in her voice as he shook his head. "Try just finished. Nothing major, you know? Saw you training and figured I'd spend some time with you. Without getting stabbed." He said, jesting toward the Hojo, as she rolled her eyes. "You're an idiot." She said as she went to grab a second practice weapon, tossing it to Yuuta. "We're sparring? Such a romantic as always, Mizuchi."

"Deal with it. I need to train." She said, before dashing in to make a quick strike as they would begin to spar.[/hr][/fieldbox]

Camp of the Akinian Host, section of the Foot Companion battalion.
Wolf country, near the eastern coast.

A collab made between Sketching and Gerontis.

Summary:
The next morning, Katsu joins the drill and training that captain
Skuli Hon had invited him for. The Uchiha joins a regular drill and is soon joined by Koike. The two engage in some training before they head off towards the smiths, where their ways part.

[spoili]
Katsu walked out of the tent just before sun up as the sky lit up bright red, dyeing the eastern side of the clouds in a bright crimson hue while the west was only lit by the dim light reflecting off the moon. He looked up for a moment before ducking his head back into the tent. He muttered something to someone before pulling his head out again.

Though early in the morning, there were enough sounds to indicate that plenty a people were awake and busy. Rounds of watches being taken over, men attending to their gear and getting ready for a new day. Small groups patrolled around in the section of the battalion's part of the camp. Various men seemed to already be geared and enjoying some breakfast, that was being shared by the camp followers. The atmosphere, even though it being an army camp, seemed to be cheerful. Something easy to pick up from the tone in which the men spoke to each other and the laughter. A group, too large to be a patrol, was heading somewhere together, being led by a lieutenant, evident by fact the man ordered the others with a stern tone.

The young nin looked over at the group. He stared for a few seconds before deciding to follow them to see if they were the group being drilled. After slowly closing the distance, his eyes scoured the crowd for Captain Skuli.

As the group, with Katsu following them, went towards a clearing in the camp, so that troops could train, it was easy for Katsu to spot the captain. He had his thumbs hooked behind his belt, speaking with captain Gardo as there were already two other platoons present. Some men would put on the training armour, which didn't look very comfortable, as well picking up a wooden shield and weapon. Skuli noticed Katsu and grinned. Saying something to the other captain, Skuli beckoned Katsu to come as captain Gardo seemed to take his leave. "Ah, there you are. Made it just in time. Usually it isn't the task of a captain to train, but want to test out some trainings. Wait," he eyed Katsu for a moment, frowning as he noticed what Katsu wore. "Well then," he began, "You wear wooden armour? Not sure what the colonel said about it, but I think it is better if you fit in with the rest. I am not sure if I can round it up now, but I will see if I can't round up some proper... armour," the man said. Passing the point, he would point with his right thumb to the spot where Katsu could get a shield and sword of wicker wood. "Well then, gear up and just join one of the platoons. Seeing you're the aide of the colonel, it doesn't matter much where you will be, but once you have picked a group try to stay with them. Much easier for the training of today,"

"It's easier to move in," the boy blurted out defensively. He looked down at his armor as if to reassure himself before turning his head to where the man pointed. He nodded at Skuli before walking over to pick up a training shield and sword. He gaged the feeling of the shield and the balance of the sword before walking to the closest platoon.

Waiting for Katsu to fall in line with a platoon, Skuli placed his hands at his back. The man raised the volume of his voice as it also became stern. "Alright then, today will be another training done by me. We are finally here, on this foreign continent. And must say," Skuli frowned, "Still doesn't sleep better or worse than usual. In fact, I could still smell most of you in my own tent! For that reason, I will once more attempt to make it clear that my training and drills are much worse than any fight you have or will be in." The captain paused for a moment as he inspected the present men, in their platoon formation.

"As per usual, if one of you bleeding sods will drop your shield or sword then that means everybody will be punished for it. I don't want to hear any belly-aching, did I make myself clear?!" The man asked, still keeping his voice and tone the same. He didn't speak in Chonobi as he was aware that Katsu wouldn't else be able to follow it. But nobody seemed to question or make any audible notion out of it. After the question of Skuli, the platoons answered as one. Which saw to it that Skuli slowly nodded as he then would continue on.

"Good. We're going to start with the usual pushing warming up," the captain would then arrange the platoons in two large groups. Picking up a shield and sword himself Skuli would join a side as he then commanded that each platoon had to form a wall of shields. Once this was done, Skuli would shout another command, which saw the formations starting to march towards each other. Once near each other, the pace became a bit slower until the last moment. Men started to use the heavy wicker wood shields to push and ram against each other while trying to hold their formation intact.

Katsu felt his feet slide back as he kept his shield up in front of him. His elbow was locked, and his stance was proper, but he felt the ground shifting below him. The sliding stopped and the boy clenched his teeth to try pushing back, but could barely stay where he was pushed.
The man in front of Katsu let out an audible grunt as he would step forwards and attempt to push Katsu back. At the same time, the man at Katsu's back would attempt to hold his ground, both supporting Katsu if he wouldn't be able to hold himself and attempt to keep the formation intact. Some grumbling in Chonobi were passed out as the platoon in which Katsu had taken his place was attempting to hold their ground. The young nin used the push of the men behind him to try pushing back a bit, pushing his back foot forward to gain better footing.
Katsu's push didn't go unnoticed as the man in front of him would keep trying to continue his own standing and pushing. Cracks in the formation, in which Katsu was part of, started to show. Then suddenly without any warning, a breach was formed as the opposite party managed to get a way into the formation. For a moment confusion rose within the broken formation as the other party would capitalise on it. Soon afterwards a lieutenant would call a halt as the fighting would cease. Only for the training to be repeated four times before Skuli would speak up again.

A small break was given before the captain would round up the platoons. "Alright, time for some arms training. Find yourself a partner and keep it 'nice', lads." With those words the platoons would break up in pairs of men training their swings and skill with the shields and blunt weaponry. Katsu would feel a bump against his shoulder as a familiar face appeared with a grin. "Still alive?" Koike said as he would gesture that he would pair off with Katsu for this training, brandishing a large oval shield and sword made of wicker wood.

Katsu was looking around aimlessly to see someone alone when he bumped into his friend. He looked up at Koike and a relieved smile appeared wide on his lips. "Ah... Yeah, barely," he said jokingly. He tightened his grip on the hilt of the training sword. He glanced down at his shield before raising it in front of him. "Slept well?"

"Somewhat," Koike casually said as he would move in with a feint. Holding the shield as the first line of defence, the tip of the wooden sword would briefly show at the right, indicating for a moment that he was about to strike from that direction. "How about you?"

"I slept just fine," Katsu said as he brought his sword towards his right where Koike's sword was while keeping the shield in front of him still. He held the shield with a backwards tilt as he stepped slowly to the right.
Suddenly without warning, Koike would step forwards as he would attempt to collide the heavy shield against that of Katsu's, readying the wooden sword at the ready to parry or attack in the following exchange that could follow the impact. Making use of the tilt of his shield, upon impact, Katsu slid the shield off Koike's to parry to the side. The moment the contact between the shields ended, he slid his sword over the top of his shield for a jab.
Noticing the shift of Katsu's shield, Koike would be cautious for what would follow. Moving his own shield upwards, to fend off the incoming jab, Koike would try out Katsu's defence by a counter attack. Aiming a jab from the right, Koike wondered if he could hit Katsu's arm. Katsu quickly shifted his arm to move the shield to his left side to protect himself and while he avoided an impact on himself, his unfamiliarity with the weapon led to him losing his footing briefly, leading him to stumble to his right, swinging the sword downwards at Koike haphazardly.

Pulling his sword back to deflect the sword of Katsu, Koike would use his shield to push Katsu off balance. "Not too shabby," Koike grumbled as he did so. Watching Katsu stumble down towards the ground, Koike waited a second. Stepping and leaning forward, he would offer a hand towards Katsu, to help the latter get on his feet. "Let's try that again," he told his aide. Taking a few steps back, Koike would use the flat of the wooden blade to pound it once against the wooden shield. "You can make the first move now."

Upon getting back on his feet, Katsu patted his back a couple of times to no avail, aiming to push some of the mud off. He let out a sigh before taking his stance again. "Got it." He raised his sword and dragged his foot back. He slashed downwards.
Slightly raising his own shield, Koike would block and aim to deflect the slash of Katsu to the side. The movement with the shield would be followed quickly up by Koike attempting to hack back at his friend, the angle of the attack coming from Katsu's high left.
As Koike deflected the wooden blade, Katsu moved with the momentum of the sword to lower his body with a pivot to the left. He raised his shield over his head to parry the attack as he used the pivot's movement to try sweeping his foot at Koike's.
Seeing how Katsu moving Koike wouldn't cease to move. His strike was on the way but would come to a halt. Instead of going through, Koike would use the moment to use his own shield, which was lowered, to slam against Katsu and drive him once more back or if lucky, off balance. Only to feel Katsu trying to sweep him off, causing the Hon to feel an imbalance as his shield moved forwards.
Katsu was able to meet Koike's shield with his own as he needed only move his arm a little to put the shield in place from above him. As he slid slowly back across the mud from the push, he tilted the shield sideways to redirect the force away.
Rolling with his shoulders Koike flashed a grin. Though he had remained standing, the kick was an indication that he shouldn't slack or consider Katsu to be easier to beat. Giving his sword a light twirl, spinning it with his fingers, Koike would ready once more into a combat stance. Taking a step slowly with the shield as his first line of defence, the Hon would attempt to just slam his shield against that of Katsu.
Seeing his friend attack with the shield, Katsu charged as well, meeting the shields to reduce the impact on himself. He fell back on his feet before quickly charging again with the shield at Koike.
The vibration moved through Koike's arm as Katsu had decided to meet his attack with one of his own. Lowering his shield, he was in time to notice that Katsu moved once more forward. Instead of meeting his friend's attack Koike pivot to move out of the way as he readied his weapon.
As he pushed through the air, Katsu brought his sword to his side to cover the opening briefly before rolling upon contact with the ground. He brought up his shield and readied his weapon. "It's pretty clunky but I could get used to using this," Katsu said.
"Aye, which is good." Koike replied as he would lower his own shield and let the wooden blade of his weapon rest on his shoulder. A brief glance revealed that most were still at it. It went pretty rough from the first looks of it. "Alright then," Koike grumbled, dropping into the same stance again.

It had lasted for quite a bit before Skuli had announced that today's training was over. Many of the men that were present were heading in groups off as new troops would take their place with other officers in charge of the training. Walking with Katsu, Koike patted the shoulder of his friend. "Heard from captain Skuli that you were in need of some armour?" Koike asked, a grin on his lips as he had to admit that he was in a good mood. Even if the training had been long and rough, it actually felt good. It felt more or less for him that they were part of something larger than just a small team now.

Katsu lightly stumbled forward with the pat before regaining his balance. "Huh? Oh. He didn't like my wooden armour," Katsu grumbled. "I need something light and flexible, you know. I can't move fast enough if I wear anything heavy."

"Something light and flexible, eh?" Koike thought for a second as he would then gesture Katsu to follow him. "What about chainmail? Just a hauberk. Will weigh a bit more, but if you use a belt then the weight is better divided. Making it not that heavy that it will really weight you down. Offers some good protection too," Koike suggested as he led them towards the place where the smiths were located.

"Chainmail?" Katsu repeated. He looked down pensively. "I suppose trying couldn't hurt. It worked out fine last time I had to wear it."

"Not to mention that it can keep you alive for a bit longer, I imagine," Koike told his friend, hooking his right thumb behind his belt as they closed in the distance to the smiths. The sounds of hammers hitting anvils rang through the air, becoming louder as they approached the site. "I just hope that they are able to adjust a hauberk in your size. Seeing you're not as tall or broad as many here," Koike said, pondering on something as well. Speaking with a smith, Koike requested to have some adjustments. The smith seemed a bit hesistant at first but it didn't take long for Koike to get his request through.

"The smith said that he would have it done by tomorrow. Suppose you could fetch it yourself." Koike told his friend. His attention was briefly caught by an officer who was looking around and clearly searching for somebody. "I have to get back to my tasks. What will you do?"

Katsu watched Koike talk to the smith for a brief moment before turning to look around the part of the camp they were in. He quickly turned back as he heard his friend's footsteps approaching. "Great! Thanks," he responded with enthusiasm.

He cupped his chin and looked dead ahead for a few seconds before speaking up. "I'm not quite sure. I suppose I'll see if there's any work to do after a brief rest. Maybe I could do with some training with the gear I already have, too."

"Well, I will see what is required of me. I will try to have supper at my tent with Akumu. You know where that is," patting Katsu's shoulder, Koike would part from his friend and aidé towards the officer. The two engaged into a talk, where the officer briefed Koike about the fact that Hayate had returned from his meeting with the other commanders. A soft sigh escaped Koike as he would thank the man afterwards, deciding to head towards where the tent of Hayate was located.

[fieldbox="Midori Sato, yellowgreen"]
Team 13 Sp. Jounin | On the Beach
Somehow everything suddenly became a fight again. It was strange how that seemed to happen to all her missions as of late, which honestly wasn't like a good thing at all. She used to think that all missions needed to be excited and cool with a lot of fighting, that was the dream she had had during the Academy years. She was over that. Now that she was an actual leader the responsibility of a battle was so taxing. You had to keep eyes on everything and Midori already had hard enough a time keeping checks on herself.

Yumeji attacked one of the assailants, the one with the curved blade, so Midori went to the guy on his left. Or she assumed it was a guy since the weird hat obsurced most of his face and his clothes didn't reveal much. Probably a guy. There were some knifes in the guy's hand by the time she reached him, but she was ready. Having finished the seals on the run towards her enemy Midori placed her hand at her mouth and released a wave of black ink towards her enemy who was about to swing at her with his right hand. As the wave blocked him from her sight, Midori heard the man speak some strange words. Maybe curses in a different language? She would curse if there was ink all over her. Hell, she had curses when that had happened. Back when her relationship with Gyuki hadn't been... this mess.

Then the enemy was suddenly at her left. Apparently he had managed to dodge the wave - though only partially for his left side was entirely covered with the black stuff. He closed in fast and Midori found herself relying mostly on reflexes and the long hours of training that she had had to fend of the man's quick knife jabs. Left, right, slide down, grab wrist, twist. A knife fell in the sand, Midori's hand crackling with lightning energy, his hand twitching violently as she held it in a deadgrip.

She dared to shoot a look back at the rest and found to her horror that, while Yumeji was handling things perfectly fine, the other two were now also engaged. Two other enemy were bearing down on her teammembers. She had to finish her own fight quickly, help out Kaya and Reyna and make sure that they would be okay.

Sanbi | In Reyna's Tummy
The reaction was certainly what he had hoped, perhaps even better though he guessed it would have been funnier if she had actually managed to wake a large portion of the camp. But she didn't. At least her new teammembers - they were teammembers right? Or were they random people that had just showed up, he honestly couldn't remember the faces of these people, they all looked the same - were shocked. Not so much the host of the Hachibi. Gyuki. He did know that name. He did know the name of his brother. He would never forget that.

But the scare wouldn't last. Soon his host was running through the woods, Isobu had long since forgotten why she was doing that again. Maybe she just was a fan of running. He had no clue why she would be a fan of that, it sounded boring, but then again it also sounded nice. Running. He hadn't run in a very long time. He hadn't had time the previous instant when he had taken over his host's body. That had just been fighting and that, that had been exhilarating. That had been great. There had been blood, screams, explosions, and coral. It was glorious. But now they were running and soon they stopped and then moved again. All of this was increadibly boring to Isobu who lazily looked from his lying position in the cage.

But then! Enemies!

And Reyna was not running towards them. Isobu was about to get up and yell at her to do something when MORE appeared! How fortuitous! And Reyna was engaging these foes. One of them was a women who was yelling like crazy. Isobu smirked. He could do that. He could do that way better.

"KILLLLLLLLLLLLLL HERRRR!" he yelled at Reyna. "Or let me do it. Doesn't that sound fun?"

Ryu Uchiha | Team 11 Genin | Amegakure

Once more she stood on the symbol, slowly trying to form her chakra into the Yang type needed to perform medical ninjutsu. However, if one were able to see the girl's face inside her mind, they'd see a look of frustration as she seemed to push against some sort of invisible wall. Straining as the white on the symbol did not seem to be overtaking the black, the girl focusing on trying to pull the power of her life, vitality, and physical strength to the surface. Still, the genin seemed to make no progress, and her frustration only grew. The more that the genin tried to force the change, the stronger the invisible wall seemed to push back. She only grew more frustrated as the results seemed to be without payoff.

Eventually, she frowned and let out a small huff. Giving up, she away from the invisible wall. In the next moment, the symbol faded away as she opened her eye, instead replaced by the sights of Amegakure. Tilting her head up at the tree she had been sitting under, Ryu found herself staring at the face of a panther peering back down at her. Getting up from where she had been meditating, Ryu frowned as she pat the side of her leg. Naomi hopped down from the tree and studied Ryu for a brief moment as she reached down to pat the panther's head. "Come on, lets go home. I want to look over my notes from Doctor Tsubaki's lessons anyways." She said softly to panther, heading back towards Eiji's house where she had been staying as of late.[/hr][/fieldbox]

Satoshi Jun,

Jounin | Kumogakure Team 3 |Wolf country, near the coast | Commander of the host, at the camp.

The meeting had gone rather well, much to Satoshi's joy. Returning to his camp, the commander wondered briefly if the entire plan of moving would go as smooth as it had been discussed with the other leaders. Arriving at his tent Satoshi decided to grant himself a small break. Sitting in one of the chairs, he would enjoy some simple rations while thinking of what would happen soon. How large was their force right now? Chewing on a bite the man hoped it would be enough to quell any revolts and trouble in the region. Perhaps the locals wouldn't fancy the idea of a large and foreign army on their soil but Satoshi preferred that over a possible Second Great war. Which would surely happen to see him not marching on the eastern continent but trying to defend his home and family near where they lived. Something much riskier than the current situation for his loved ones.

Just as he was about to finish his break, the flaps of the tent's entrance moved aside. Breathing irregular and heavy, a soldier looked at Satoshi. "Co-Commander, sir," the man saluted as Satoshi would rise from his chair, nodding back to the soldier. "Some scout parties have returned. A-A large force is on... the move... towards us."
Instantly Satoshi became alarmed. "How many do the scouts estimate?" Was Satoshi's question, quickly picking up his weapon belt.
"Our scouts didn't want to risk too much, of being exposed, but they state it is, at least, twice the size of all forces here combined. They will be here within two days, commander, sir!"

Turning his head to face the reporting soldier Satoshi's face started to pale. Twice the size of the allied force? They were with more than forty thousand troops here. How could the locals bring forth such a massive army? Thinking back to what had been reported on the first hostile encounter in this region, Satoshi's mood turned grim. "Get all captains here, right now. Tell them it is of more paramount importance than anything they are doing right now," Satoshi ordered, on which the soldier nodded and would move out. "Damn it."

Standing in his tent Satoshi stared at the entrance of the large tent. How was this happening? Just when he was gaining some hope, they were now going to face a force that was much larger. And they weren't even sure of how much larger than just twice their numbers. Then the fact that they would arrive within two days, which didn't bode well either. Soon enough his captains arrived. Some were worried, a few eager and others just like Satoshi, having a grim expression with the recent news. A plan had to be made and after an hour discussion, they managed to formulate a plan. With the added information that commander Yuuki of the Republican army had given and their scouting of the surrounding area, the plan was to withdraw to a more favourable position. The enemy was approaching from the west, likely seeking a direct confrontation with them. If that was all correct then they could move more towards the north to have a river defend their western approach. Likely forcing the enemy force to either cross the river or allowing Satoshi and the others to buy themselves some more time. The captains would leave, quick to bring the plan to motion that the force would make haste to the northern position. Aware that breaking camp and marching would take a day, Satoshi hoped that any dispatched party would be able to return. Captain Takeshi Hishima would ready his cavalry detachment, in case that Satoshi would desire to send out reinforcements or searching parties for any not returned troops.

Leaving his tent, Satoshi wasn't done with dish out orders. Messengers would be sent to the camp of the Republican and Imperial Akinian forces, alerting them of the imminent danger as well of his plan. Hopefully, they would comply and be ready to follow with him and his forces.
