| Spc. Jounin | Konohagakure Team 6 | Captain-Major of the Guardians | Second-in-command of the Tiger Claws |
[ Konohagakure, Tiger Claws camp ]

Saki arrives at home, being surprised at what state it is. Trying to realise where Hideki might be as well needing some distraction she heads over to the HQ of the Tiger Claws. There she is being invited to drink something with a few members, which both offers some enjoyment/amusement as well the needed distraction from a few 'problems'.

[spoili]

It weighed heavily on her. She had done what was 'right', but it didn't feel right. Not in the slightest did she feel positive about what she had done. Kiyomi had clearly been hurt, even though the 'betrayal' had been done with good intentions. Being certain, however, that this wouldn't ruin their friendship Saki made a silent vow she would try to talk it out with Kiyomi.
Taking a right corner the blonde Yamanaka noticed her house up ahead. A bit of relief flowed over her, making her hope that Hideki was back home. Perhaps, who knew? Making dinner. The thought cast a faint smile on her lips as she slightly increased her walking pace. Arriving in front of the door she wouldn't take long to unlock it. Pushing the door open the lips parted to utter a greeting, but no word left her.

Slowly the door would reveal a mess inside. Saki blinked as she stood still in the door opening, while the hallway seemed to have endured a whirlwind in her absence. Taking a step slowly forwards Saki wasn't sure if this was some twisted form of the reality, but as she closed the door behind her it seemed to be real. Slowly taking step after step she walked further into the home. There had been a search and the mess made it clear that whoever had done this hadn't cared about subtly.

"Hiki? Noru?"

Looking around as she suddenly felt alone Saki grow worried. Was Hideki even back from his mission and what happened to Noru. After checking the house for any clues she couldn't see any room or part that was spared from the 'search'. It made her feel sick as her worry only would grow. Using her sensory ninjutsu there was no 'foreign' chakra signature that had invaded her home. Or the person (or perhaps people) had been suppressing their chakra?
Both confused and on the verge of panicking Saki did notice some chakra signature. Heading to the master bedroom Saki would look underneath the bed.

"There you are... Come, you must have been scared."

Speaking with a soft tone she would reach out her arms as the somewhat chubby cat meowed. Slowly moving out from underneath the bed the feline would be picked up by Saki. "It is okay. We will just stay somewhere else for some time. Ssshhh," she told the feline in a soft tone. Thinking of something she would pack a small bag and then head to the Yamanaka compound. While she was worried about Hideki the blonde woman decided she would make a report on her home. Something was wrong and there was always the fact that Hideki had most likely made the same decision to stay somewhere else until everything was investigated.

The sound moved through the air as the breeze. Only in a much creepier fashion as it wasn't as soothing as the soft breeze. Then again during this time of the year, the breeze wasn't anything else but a nuisance. Yet the rasping sound had a subtle threat in it as it kept going through the air, plaguing the room in a slow rhythm. Sitting on the chair, the pale blue eyes of Saki followed the movements of the grindstone. Keeping it moving with the use of her left foot, using her weight by going back and forth with her foot to keep the circular stone moving. Keeping the edge of the sword close to the young woman wasn't the only one in the armoury busy with her equipment. There were a dozen more members of the Tiger Claws busy with maintaining their armour, gear and weaponry. It had something calming to it as she was used to maintaining and paying attention to her gear and equipment alone. At least, after joining the Zero teams and the time after being allowed to leave the agency. Briefly, she thought of spending time with Kaname and Kiyomi together with taking care of their gear. Learning together and exchanging tips. Right now the exchange of words between her and the other members was at a minimal. Saki didn't blame them for it, though.

Most of the members in the Tiger Claws were grizzled veterans. The average age was around twenty-six or somewhere close to that. To then have a second-in-command that was younger and not having a public renown that demanded much respect, Saki couldn't argue that some of the members were wary of having her on the position. She wouldn't for that reason try to force them to respect or like her in any manner. They did follow her orders - at least so far as she had only been on some patrols and did several pieces of training with them - and that was for now what she found important. Slowly stopping the wheel of the grindstone, Saki would lift the blade a bit. It sure did look sharp and she was tempted to run down her thumb across the edge. Not that she would see she was sure that she wouldn't like the result of that action. Turning half around, her free hand picked up the scabbard. Sheathing the sword, Saki let out a soft sigh. Only that remained was her armour from the Tiger Claws. As she was about to turn to get a rag and some tools to attend to her armour, Saki frowned for a second. A man walked towards her. Judging by the short beard and the few scars visible on his face and arms he wasn't just a recruit of the unit. With a calm expression plastered on her face, Saki didn't step away or made a bow. The man neither made a bow or saluted to her. For a moment, Saki wondered if this would be the 'first' test from the veterans of the unit to 'test' her out. To see what kind of person she was and how free they were to do what they wanted.

"Ma'am." The man said, his tone soft and low. Saki wasn't sure how old she should consider him. Replying back silently with a nod, the man placed a hand on his hip.
"Hope I wasn't bothering, but I and some of the others are going to a pub this evening. We were wondering if you wouldn't like to come with us." He asked, surprising Saki. She thought quickly as she didn't have any plans for the evening. Hideki was gone on a mission and what else could she do? Just stay at home and read a roman or study? Or going to bed early? No, this was a good chance to perhaps get known with some of the Tiger claws and making them consider her as one as their own perhaps.
"Sure. That sounds fun. Where do we meet?" Saki asked. The man gained a faint smile as he would then inform her about the meeting point.

Saki didn't have any trouble of finding the place. Osaka's Jar. An odd name in Saki's opinion, but it seemed to be one of those small pubs that had some charm to it, with not being too overpopulated nor being repugnant in any kind of manner. While she wasn't too sure if she would fit in with the group that had invited her to share a drink or two with them it would be pointless to come and then deciding to leave. Entering the pub she glanced around. There were some singing and dancing happening, but she couldn't see Yatori Misawa. The man who had approached her. Walking a bit further into the pub Saki kept looking around. A young man with short blond hair approached her, a playful smile present on his lips. Thanks to the music she couldn't really hear him, but judging by the stretched out hand and somewhat 'inviting' gesture of his hand he was inviting her to a dance. An apologising smile touched Saki's lips as she stepped aside, Saki continued her search for Yatori.
"There you are! I had almost considered you lost to the vices of the pub."

Hearing the man's voice, Saki glanced over her right shoulder. Turning around, she flashed a friendly smile as she shook her head. His voice was much louder when he actually spoke free she realised. Raising her the volume of her voice, she spoke back : "No thanks, I've enough vices of myself. Where shall we sit?"
The question was met with Yatori pointing to the back of the pub. Nodding, Saki would follow the man. A glance was thrown over her shoulder, but she didn't see the young man off before. Yatori led her to a round table where already a small company was present, drinking and talking. With being this far back in the pub the music, cheering and singing weren't as loud as the company didn't need to raise the volume of their voices that awfully high that it would likely hurt tomorrow.

Always look for Bugs
Near the River and Fire Province border, Late Evening

Sitting around a campfire, "Yuno" and the group she accompanied decided this was the best spot to rest for the night. The two kids were running around them, playing catch, and the group were mainly talking among themselves. Yuno was just finishing up tying her horse to a tree next to their camp and petting it a bit, making sure it is fine from every aspect. One of the men from the group, Fuki, approached her and informed her that soon they will all go and rest, except for Giro who will guard them for the night. Thanking him, she watched Fuki start calling out to one of the kids he could find, when Yuno felt slight movements from the horse's rope. Turning to look at the horse, Yuno found the second kid, a young girl, on the back of her horse, having just barely climbed there.

"You shouldn't do that. Roshi dislikes having strangers on his back." She warned the girl, and the horse confirmed it by starting to walk sideways a bit, clearly displeased and preparing to try and toss the girl off. Worried, the girl started to try and get off but it was already too late. Roshi stood on two feet and the girl was flung backwards, with Yuno making a jump and managing to grab the girl before she hit the ground, only to have the girl land on top of her instead. She slightly coughed as the girl got off and gave her big eyes "That was cool." She said in a rather quiet voice, and Yuno shrugged "I'm certain that your mom wouldn't like it if you got hurt because of me." Came the response, and the girl shook her head "My mom passed away a few years ago. I'm on this trip with my uncle. They said we are going to see many places in Akino before going back home."

Hearing this, Yuno turned around to look at the group. Contradiction, but from a somewhat unreliable source, because it is possible they told the kids lies to ensure they cannot give up the mission they had "I'm sorry to hear about your mother. Who's your uncle? It is probably best if you go back to him, its time to sleep." She told the girl, who shook her head "I know kids dislike sleeping, but you need to, in order to keep having lots of energy. Now, go run to your uncle-" She paused upon realising she didnt know her name yet. The girl seemed to pick up on it "My uncle is Giro, and I'm Tori." Came the response in the same quiet voice as before. Giving Tori a smile, Yuno nodded "Go tell your uncle Giro good night and then go to sleep. If he approves, I could let you ride with me on Roshi tomorrow."

Quickly Tori's eyes widened and she ran away from her, with Yuno standing up and dusting herself a bit. She already knew what will happen tonight, but she hoped she could pull it off.

An hour after midnight, everyone was resting except for Giro, who was standing watch with his axe at hand. He glanced at Yuno briefly as he heard her move in her spot, not knowing what to think of her. A couple of people from the group also made movement noises, and then Giro coughed three times. Another movement sound, then another cough, and two people got up from their sleeping spots, being a man and a woman. They approached Giro and all three walked away from the dying fire. They begun talking in whispers to him, not audiable from where Yuno laid. All three of them looked at her at some point, but without knowing, a small beetle was on Giro's shoe backside, one that could hear every word loud and clear.

"So are you certain?"
"Yes, yes, worry not. All is well."
"I wish you would stop talking like that. It makes me regret taking you and not someone else."
"Sorry."
"Now then, did you get any intel from your source about this Yuno?"
"My summon should be arriving soon, unless those Akino fools start to check every single animal that goes around underground."
"Until it does, thoughts?"
"She seems mighty fine to me. I would like to get to know her close and per- Ow!"
"If you try and say something like that again, I won't just put my elbow into your ribs."
"Both of you, focus. The mole is here."

All three of them looked to the ground and saw a pair of sharp claws that slowly peeked and pushed the earth aside until a proper hole was created, and a mole with a note attached to it peeked out. The woman kneeled down and took the note before thanking the underground animal and telling it to stand by. The woman read the note several times while Giro and the other man waited.

"This is odd. This confirm's Yuno's existence, but at the same time-"
"At the same time it says she is secretly a model in need of a hero?"

A sound of cracking bones was heard, and the beetle needed to jump off Giro's shoe and move to the man's shoe to stay in range, as Giro started moving away after the man punched his face hard for his interruptions. A part of the conversation was missed due to this.

"-Suspicious."
"Agreed. What do we do, we cant interrogate her while we are still with the civilian escort, unless we want to blow our cover to the unaware civilians."
"It matters little if they become aware or not. We need to dispose of them as soon as we arrive at our target area anyway. Orders of the Kazekage, no one needs to know we exist."
"Right. Sacrifice few for the sake of many."
"Exactly."

The beetle jumped off the man's shoe as they begun making their way back to their sleeping bags following a couple of coughs from Giro, which by now Yuno managed to figure out meant that everything was secure. After they vanished from the beetle's sight, the beetle poofed away into nothingness, and Yuno would gain the bits of conversation it had heard. It may not have been a full conversation, but it certainly made one thing clear.

She knew what had to be done.

Koike Hon,
Specialized Jounin | Konoha Team 6 | Lieutenant-Captain | Amegakure

Staring at the body, Koike had waited for two minutes. No movement or any sign of life. With half closed eyes, he just kept staring at the corpse of Shizu. He wasn't sure what had caused her to turn against him and Katsu, but it had likely to do with the opponent that either had somehow vanished or perhaps been taken out? Feeling uncertain that they had taken care for good about that strange opponent Koike raised his right hand slowly to his earphone communicator. While he turned on the communicator, he didn't speak right away. Once more he thought about what had happened, only at first spotting how Katsu took out Shizu.

A sigh escaped Koike as he would report in Chonobi that the package was secured as well one casualty had occurred. There was no answer as Koike lowered his hand.

While he was certain that this was anything but desired he couldn't state he felt sad or angry. If anything, disappointed that his skills hadn't managed to prevent any casualties. But the need to mourn Shizu's passing? Any tears on her passing away? No. He doubted if it was him that she would as they had never managed to bond or learn much about one another. Sighing Koike lowered his head for a moment.

"Make certain the body is disposed of. We don't have the luxury or time for a funeral anytime soon. And not sure who we can entrust a body to," was Aiko's answer over the communicator - replying in Chonobi.

Nodding, even though he was certain she wouldn't be able to see it, Koike would reply back. "Understood." He just said. Eyeing the body Koike would push his back from the wall he was leaning against. Kneeling next to the body he would search for any valuables. Not much for himself, but he was aware of that relatives would appreciate it to have a token. That done he would place a three tombs near and on the woman. Getting up he would pull out another bomb from his special pouch.

Igniting the bomb, running the top of the bomb alongside his armguard, Koike would drop the object on the ground. The steel casing made a thud as the young man started to walk away. With the ongoing chaos and violence, nobody would probably notice the loud bang in an alley, disposing of the corpse of Shizu Sarutobi.

Watching as the rain kept pouring on the rooftop Koike's eyes would briefly widen. As his shadow clone had poofed away, resulting in that he got the remaining chakra and gained experiences as memories, Koike let out a soft sigh. Sitting under the cover of a balustrade. A soft whimper could be heard to his right, causing Koike to turn his head.

The red scarf he was worn was wrapped around the neck and shoulders of Kei, providing some warmth. The small child wasn't in the best mood, but she remained silent. It was a good thing she did know who Koike was and that they could converse in the language of their culture. Factors that had eased her as she had asked several questions. Questions of which answers he didn't all possess an answer on. For a moment he wished he had the fire chakra as affinity as that would help to make the child perhaps feel a bit more comfortable.

"Soon we're going to some place warm," Koike said to Kei in a calm tone. The child just threw a look at him and thought about something. She would bring her hands together and rubbed them before clapping them together. Squeezing her eyes shut a soft, short phrase was muttered.

"Genjutsu technique."

Throwing a look at Kei, Koike couldn't hide a small amused smile on his lips. The girl was anything but amused as she stared down at her hands. Pouting she would start to rub them together once more.

"Hey Koike, It's Kazumo. Sensei sent me to help you out, where can I meet up with you, or should we regroup at the abandoned house?".

Surprised to hear the voice follow after the crackling of his communicator becoming active, Koike raised a hand to press on the communicator. "Aha. I can meet you up there. On my way." He answered back in the same language. Getting up he would throw a look at Kei. The girl seemed to be surprised but would hop on her feet. Stretching a hand out to her the girl would grab Koike's hand with both hands. Before they would slip away in the shadows.

Sairento Shi | ANBU | Akinian Empire | Amegakure

The man nodded respectfully towards Hoshi before taking a step into her office and closing the door behind him. "Yes Ma'am, the Amekage Assistant is not in the building. I believe he stepped out. I've come to you, because I do believe that after my mission to retrieve the Amekage Assistant's daughter and student from his house, I have some intelligence that might be valuable." he said, taking a small breath, then looking back at Hoshi and recalling the information. "Ma'am, there is evidence of some kind of fighting outside the Amekage Assistant's home. Bodies of what seemed to be lightly armored men outside. The neighbor's house was destroyed, my guess has it at the hands of an explosive of some sort. The Amekage Assistant's student, Ryu Uchiha, also claims to have seen some creature outside. Engaging a group of, according to her, shinobi. She claims that the creature survived the explosion of the neighbor's house, enough to shoot some sort of tentacle into one of the shinobi fighting it. At which point the said person turned on her allies. I thought the information important enough to need to be told to somebody as soon as possible, Ma'am" he said, giving a quick salute before going to attention and waiting to see if she had anything else to say, or if he was tasked with doing something.

Taishiro Kanai | Kirigakure Team 14 Genin | Kirigakure, City Center

Having already checked on his father, and helped out a bit around the orphanage in the morning, Taishiro went out the door to head to the meeting point he was informed about. The boy felt quite a bit of tension in his gut, seeing as this would be the first time that he would meet his team. The first time being part of a team in general, he hoped that he did not mess anything up. He stopped for a moment in the middle of the city, and shook his head. A brief sigh came from the boy before he spoke softly to himself. "Come on. Can't doubt yourself like that. Mother and Father wouldn't want you to." He said quietly to himself and continued heading towards the meeting point. Forcing his nerves down as he walked calmly through the streets. Eventually Taishiro reached the building that was to be the meeting point, and began looking for any possible way to get to the roof, which didn't take him terribly long.

Once on top of the building, he looked around and pretty quickly found one other on the building. He approached cautiously and spoke up after giving a polite bow. "Hayashi-Sama? Taishiro Kanai, I hope I am not late." the boy said quietly as he stood a respectful distance away. This was certainly the meeting spot, so he could only assume that this woman before him was to be his sensei now. He didn't see any others around, but figured that he may also just have been late and the others were already doing something important. So, to be safe, Taishiro offered an apology to the woman. He certainly wanted to a decent first impression on his new sensei.[/hr][/fieldbox][/hr]

[fieldbox="Clever Name Goes Here, #ff4d4d"]Harada Toshi, Mizuchi Hojo and Yumeji Hojo | Team 3 Chuunin and Genin | Sky-Wolf Country Shores
A collab between @Jason Diabolus, @Oetje, and The Frostiest of Caramels

Finally at their destination, Mizuchi calls upon the two Slayers in order to try and figure out a plan of attack if another armored beast is encountered. Neither of the Slayers are pleased.

The Hojo stood with her arms crossed, waiting for Toshi and Yumeji to come over to speak with her. As she waited on the two, Mizuchi thought about what they had to discuss. Somewhere, she felt a small pang of guilt for having to bring up the topic with her sister. Yet it had to be done, as she wasn't overly comfortable with having only two people who could fight those things, should they show up. A small sigh escaped her lips as she thought about this, she could apologize to Yumeji later for brining up a sensitive topic.

The briefing done, Toshi wandered over to where Mizuchi had decided to set up shop. Giving the surrounding area a good look before he reached the Hojo, Toshi figured that the majority of what he liked to do as far as combat went was going to have to be changed up a bit. No buildings that he could see from where he stood and a tree line that ended long before the beach left him very few height advantages... But at least there was a lot of water.... Like an ocean's worth of water, he could use that.

Stepping around a group of soldiers and into Mizuchi's sight Toshi waved and spoke, "Yo.".

Yumeji wasn't at all pleased. While she had remained silent during the entire briefing and march this was a moment where her patience was running thin. The fact that she and Toshi had been requested out of all people to report at Mizuchi wouldn't just raise thoughts and questions of others, but it was also something she didn't like. Understanding that they didn't enjoy any luxury of time or a more comforting way to arrange this, Yumeji felt quite 'bumped' that Mizuchi had requested them. No, ordered.
Approaching the other two, she briefly wondered what the other soldiers and few shinobi now would do. Deciding that it wasn't her task to lead now the teen would just nod towards Mizuchi. A sideways glance was then thrown at Toshi, the ghost of a smile appearing on Yumeji's lips.

Looking at both Toshi and Yumeji as they arrived, Mizuchi felt a small pang of guilt. Especially when she noticed that her little sister wasn't looking at all pleased. "Apologies, you two. I know this is an uncomfortable topic, but I think it important for the moment. That... thing you two fought last time. What brought it down? I'd rather have more than two under my command who can fight such a thing should we see another. Once again, my apologies for the situation, but I think it important I know." she said, allowing a few moments of emotion to show. Wanting to reassure the two that she meant her apologies before returning to a calm expression.

Noticing as Yumeji approached and gave him a small smile, Toshi smiled back before slowly inching his way closer to the Hojo he could say he actually knew. As he silently slid his feet across the ground and came closer to Yumeji, he feigned interest in Mizuchi's words meant to settle them down with a few nods and grunts.

Stopping a few feet closer to Yumeji he took a moment to think back to the beast they had versed together. With a a mirthless laugh he shot a lok to Yumeji and then back to Mizuchi, "Luck." he said before kicking the ground, "And lots of explosives." he paused again and shrugged. "Honestly I'm still not too sure what was working and what wasn't, the explosives were definitely slowing it down... And it seemed like it experienced pain when it took about a hundred senbons to the face..." he threw his hands up in the air in defeat, "...but that didn't exactly stop it. I'm pretty sure the explosives did, Yumeji?" he gave her a look of confusion as he passed the torch of wisdom to her.

Toshi's answer caused Yumeji to throw another sideways look at the genin, somewhat amused by it. Though it was quite the truth. Thinking about it, Yumeji shrugged before she would answer on what she thought had defeated that dreadful thing.
"Can't really say that I have a different answer than Toshi," the chuunin said, "It could absorb chakra and its physical strength and speed were... admirable."
The last word was spoken out carefully as Yumeji wasn't too certain on how to describe the horrible opponent. While it was one opponent she wouldn't ever forget there was some sort of weird respect that she held for whatever it was.

"Guess that if you expect any of those things then we best can already head back," Yumeji said, raising her right hand to point with her thumb over her shoulder, "Seeing that last time it had quite a lot of friends."
Lowering her hand Yumeji would hook her thumbs behind her belt, clearly not eager to talk more about the topic.

"Its not that I expect to run into anything, it's that I don't fancy the idea of being caught unprepared. Chakra absorbtion and enhanced abilities..." she said, then sighed slightly as she looked away. After a brief moment, she looked back at the two. "So it seems explosions do the trick, unsure of much else? Unless I am incorrect in that statement? If that is all we have on it, then thank you both. I know it probably isn't the best topic, I am sorry for needing to bring it up." she said, then looked past the two towards the assembling groups to scout and ensure their hilltop stayed secure. After a few moments of watching, she looked back towards them. "You two can go join a scouting party, or remain here to hold the hilltop with myself and the others. Thank you, both of you." Mizuchi said with a small nod towards the two.[/fieldbox]

[fieldbox="Eiji Emiya, sandybrown"]
Amekage's Assistant | In the Streets

Normaly Eiji would experience Amegakure as a peaceful city shrouded in endless blankets of rain that made everything weirdly comfortable because everyone was sharing the fate that they were all just getting drenched. And everyone seemed okay with that in general. The people in the Rain used to have a sense of connection between them. Those who live in the Rain, die for the Rain. In this case water could be thicker than blood. Where as Iwagakure had always been an extremely exciting place for him, it was Ame he came home to. Iwa was at most a fancy exotic location where his dad happened to live. And yes, he had considered moving there in his younger years, but had also quickly realized that he would never actually makes those dreams a reality. Not only because he had enlisted in the Amegakure military, but also because his life was simply in the Rain. Not in Stone.

But today the city was nothing like that. The rain was not comforting. If anything it was restricting. It blocked view, it drove people to their homes, it aided those who were lashing out against something that Eiji could not quite understand. He did not get why the riots had started. He did not get why innocents were being hurt. Sure, he had heard some standpoints and sure, he would be able to comprehend them, but he could not hunderd procent understand. If he did he might be one of the few out these harassing people after all.

He walked through the streets, his hands shoved in his pockets, his head held high. He had not put on his cap to hide his bright red hair. Somewhere in the back of his mind he knew that there were a couple of ANBU following. Surely they were having their own little hiding places in the rain. But he didn't want them next to him. This was not a moment to display power in the traditional sense. Fighting would beget more fighting and that was exactly what he wanted to avoid.

At some point he arrived at a street where a lot of commotion was happening. His presence didn't go unnoticed - it hardly went unnoticed these days, must be the job - but the rain gave him some time to observe the situation before his face was recognized by too many people. These were his people, he realized. He didn't recognize anyone, but he knew it. These were people from Amegakure who were dissatisfied. Some were breaking one of the shops apart. Some where carrying cans of paint, no doubt intending to use them if the rain stopped for a moment. Some were holding makeshift weapons, some where holding rocks. There was yelling and shouting and a general chaos in which the other villagers seemed to be caught.

He stepped forwards and calmly walked right into the crowd. In an almost automatic reaction most of the group parted way as if his steps were somehow more important than theirs. "If there is a problem," he said loud enough for most people surrounding him to hear. "Then there might be a better way to go about it than this."

"We don't want your help!"

"Do you want the help of these people then?" He gestured to the houses around them, most of which were vandalized in some way. Wares had been stolen, windows broken, doors were gone. "I mean you guys have very clearly stated you needed something from them. Why else would you take everything they own for yourself. You all must need these wares rather desperately."

"We don't need anything of them!"

"They still served shinobi!"

"They deserve to get robbed."

"And yet you took everything they own." Eiji's voice was as calm as always. His eyes moved to one of the guys that was standing closed to him. A young lad, not older than 16. He didn't seem particulary into all the yelling and shouting, his eyes were moving back and forth from Eiji to the ground. "Tell me," Eiji asked him when he looked back up. "What is you job?"

"... I work at one of the post offices."

"But don't shinobi also send letters to each other? How do you know if you haven't given one of them a letter once before?"

"... I don't know."

"Does it pay well?"

A confused look. "It's okay. I can feed my mom with it."

"Can you affort to quit your job?"

More confusion. "Not really. I mean who is going to pay the bills?"

"Then what makes you so sure that these people can?" He gestured again to the houses around him.

Another voice cut in. From his right. A much older, more aggressive man this time. "You saying that only proves that shinobi have claws in everything. We don't want you."

"You are free to not want me. I am not asking you to believe in me or to listen to me because I just so happen to be in a different position than you. I am asking you to not hurt your fellow citizens. You are free to lay out all your problems before me and I will take them on. Or gladly step away if it is decided that you wish to see someone else in my position. But these people are like you. These people are citizens of the Rain and that runs thicker than anything. You are people of the rain. You have witstand so much and have made the city so strong. You are not like Konoha were the sun always shines. You are the Rain where every day means hard work. All of you are unless you are telling me that politics break bonds that have been forged in Rain. Since when do we let ourselves be swayed by forced from outside to chose a side? Have we not always carved our own path?"

There was a faint mumbling. Eiji knew that playing on the fact that the Rain had always been a tight knit community might be a move he could actually pull of. The Rain had withstood many a thread over the years and because they were such a small country with such large neighbours, their sense of union was strong. He had felt it already when he was young. It was what had pulled him back to Amegakure even when his father asked him to stay in Iwa. They were people of the Rain. It was impossible to abandon that legacy.

Aiko Cho
Cho Clan leader | Civic council member | Team 8 jounin |Amegakure

As the chaos continued and started to spread in some parts of the city, Aiko remained cloaked by the rain. Invisible for the naked eye the jounin moved without any sound, ignoring the hectic scenes around her. Even not at the moment considering that she had thrown a group of inexperienced nin into the deep, but she considered that the tasks she had given them wouldn't be out of their reach and capability. If they were then she had probably overestimated them, which could happen. But she didn't hope that would become the case.
Moving down into an alley Aiko threw a look around. Judging by the sounds that she could detect there wasn't anybody nearby. Slowly the woman straightened her back as she let out a soft sigh. First she had to contact him. It wouldn't be the first time that she had used the Dragon Seal that one could find on her lower back to use it as a form of communication.

"Seems things aren't going well here," Aiko send as she would brief the 'other' in about the events that transpired right now. A moment passed as silence would follow her briefing. It was moments like these that she always doubted if the message would come over. The distance could always be a problem but there was also the fact that the receiver of her message could be too busy to focus to communicate back, though that wasn't the case with him. His control and manipulation of the Dragon Seal was far better than hers and even now it didn't take long before a soft whisper would answer back.

Listening to what she was being told Aiko half narrowed her eyes. "She is doing fine. I plan on sending her back right now. Together with two participants. One of them is knocked out and think that the other should be introduced. It is becoming time, anyways."

Once more a moment of silence followed, but this time the whispering reply came faster. Recognising some frustration and doubt Aiko shook her head, while she was sure that the other wouldn't be able to see or notice that. "Don't think that I have much another choice if we want her out of this place right away. Already, one of those crea---"

Aiko Sensei it is Neji Uchiha I jus arrived at point Delta, sorry for the my lateness I ran into some trouble I had to take care of first. What are your orders sensei?"

Halting her thoughts as the message came through Aiko felt the need to curse and start berating the Uchiha for being a hindrance, at least right now. Muttering softly a curse, she would relay her message through the Dragon seal. "One moment, seems that one of the genin isn't dead. Yet." Though she 'said' the comment through the Dragon Seal in a frustrated and most irritated tone, the woman would speak up in a harsh but emotional neutral tone through the communicator.

"Regroup and move with Hiraku Hyuuga. He will know what to do. And if you find yourself distracted, make sure that you do something that will get yourself really excused or else you might find yourself end up hurt," the woman said in a calm pace. She doubted the subtle threat would be caught on as she wondered for a moment how a student of Hiron could be so far from being disciplined. Let alone graduating at the top of his class. Deciding to not lose herself in such thoughts, she would continue on with her previous conversation.

"I will send them away and then will see how I will aid to end this trouble," Aiko continued as she rubbed her forehead with her left hand, "Anything else that I need to do?"

Once more the whisper other replied in her mind, answering the question. Nodding, Aiko would turn around and start to walk. "Understood. I will try to be in time back, but doubt it. Love you too," Aiko replied once more. Focusing herself on the task that laid ahead of her, the woman switched the channel of the earphone communicator. Just in time to hear the exchange of words between Koike and Kazumo.

"I will also be on my way. Koike, make sure that you, the wolves and Katsu are at the ready with Kei. Kazumo, you and I will pick up the pace afterwards. Meet me at point Delta, sorry for the confusion," the woman instructed in Chonobi as well to the two on the other channel.

Made in the shadows,
A new promise is made.

A collab between Gerontis and Lesli.

Summary :
Aiko and Koike meet up. Explaining some matters, Aiko allows a certain way that should make it happen fast and safe for Koike and a small group to head back to Konohagakure without travelling all the way back in the traditional manner. Upon departure, the two exchange a promise. One in silence.

[spoili]
Waiting Koike held his arms crossed out front of his chest, his back leaning against the wall behind him. It remained silent in the abandoned home. For a brief moment, the young man let himself wonder what had become of the previous inhabitants. What kind of family had lived in here and why they had left or perhaps forced to move. Not just because he had been confronted with that the world was a harsh, cold and cruel place Koike wasn't able to conjure anything positive of mind at first. Or was it the fault of the current situation the city of rain was struggling with?

Glancing at his right, Kei laid asleep in the corner, with her head resting on Akumu. The large, black dire wolf wasn't asleep as Koike could see the eyes of the canine staring in front. The ears twitched now and then, which meant that the large predator was more than ready to jump back into action from looking relaxed and content. Shooting a look at the other side Koike saw Tanpo and Katsu. The exhausted Uchiha had fallen asleep, though Koike wondered if it wasn't also because of the stress and fatigue from the previous events that had more than likely strained his friend and team member slipping in this state. The juvenile dire wolf briefly threw a look back at the young man but seemed to be content with the peace and calm.

Before he was able to wonder further, Koike's hand shot to his side. The gloved fingertips curling around the handle of two knives that he would be able to use as a quick offensive reaction. The cracking of wood had made everybody who was awake tense up. A soft growling could be detected, but would soon cease as Koike whistled softly. Relaxing he would push himself from the wall.

"How is everybody doing?" Aiko asked, phrased in Chonobi, in a soft voice, slowly appearing from the shadows. She threw a worried look at Kei but noticing that she was asleep and seemed more than well and nothing seemed to be missing from Katsu regarding limbs or parts, Aiko focused her attention back on Koike to hear the answer to her question.

"She," Koike answered back in the same language while nodding in the direction of his niece, "Has been doing fine. Think she is exhausted with this constant moving around and being unsure what is going on. Managed to calm her down, though," Koike said as for a moment a faint smile crossed his lips. His gaze went to Katsu and he remained silent for a moment. "Katsu might be in need to be checked up later. Regarding... what happened." Feeling the guilt coming back, Koike returned his attention on Aiko. She seemed like she just had come from a tough fight, but he wouldn't ask how she was doing. He knew her well enough to know that she would shrug her own well being if she valued others above her own.

Another worried glance was thrown towards Katsu. Staying silent for a moment she would turn her attention back to Koike. "I am afraid that I can't help him with that. I need you to head back to Konohagakure. With Kei as I can't risk her being in the city as things are grimmer than I had anticipated," Aiko answered as she would pull out a kunai by the loop. Spinning the weapon for a second the woman would grip the handle. "Am not fond of using this but with the current developments it is the only way I can conjure without making things more complicated."

Pricking her thumb the jounin would sheath the kunai back into the pouch. Weaving through some hand signals she would bend her legs to place her hand on the ground. Instead of the conventional dark lines that would sprawl over the ground to make the markings and formula of the summoning technique, a dark rose would slowly rise up. "You might have a lot of questions and there will come a time soon that you and I can talk about how and what," Aiko said as she would pluck the rose cautiously from the floor, "But at the moment just trust me on this. Get in the sphere and wait. You will arrive in Konohagakure."

Nodding as she said she couldn't help Katsu, Koike doubted he would be able to help his friend with the burden. He wasn't sure how Katsu looked at the fact he had killed somebody else to save him from becoming wounded - or worse- but now the situation demanded him to focus on other matters. Watching Aiko uses a technique he remained silent. Secrets weren't new to him and if anything Koike had learned to know that knowing answers wasn't always great. Knowing could lead to pain and anger or worse. Walking over to Katsu he would use the shadow clone technique to let the clone pick Katsu up. Heading over to Kei, Koike would lift the small girl up. Briefly, he could detect the girl frowning, clearly not approve subconsciously of being picked up.

As an obsidian coloured sphere started to form and grow Koike wavered. Throwing a sideways glance to Aiko, standing with damaged clothing and flak jacket as well looking as if she just had escaped a fire, he wanted to say something. Instead, his lips remained tight on each other. Desires that he wanted to speak or see her soon nor that she should keep watch of herself with them not around to provide cover or help, wouldn't leave him. Walking into the sphere, he closed his eyes as the dire wolves and his shadow clone carrying Katsu would follow him.

"Understood, ma'am."

"Oh, Koike..."

"Yes?"

"Love you."

Hearing the words, he opened his eyes and turned. He could only see the dark sphere surrounding him. But he as he was about to say something back, there was a strange sensation moving through his body. Slowly the sphere started to break up as a sad expression would flow over his face. Realising something he would lower his head as his gaze fell on the sleeping Kei he held in his arms. Standing in the living room of the girl's home, he would whisper something back.

Meisa Ichi
-Secret- ANBU commander |Konohagakure, arriving back.

It had been quite interesting. Not just working alongside a shadow clone of Kiyomi, but exploring the dark corridors and halls of the abandoned facility. Much to the anticipation of the Akinian empress, the two came across tracks and signs that somebody had been using the facility. For what purposes and ends, Meisa hadn't been able to figure out those answers. What they did find was various answers on some questions. Some surviving documents or parts of what were once detailed documents of various 'projects' were recovered in the search as the majority of the group would head back. While her curiosity would likely tempt Meisa to stay for a long time, exploring the entire underground facility, she knew that they would have to go back soon.

And their return would go much smoother than how the others went back. Knowing fully well that Kiyomi hadn't just offered a shadow clone for assistance, but also as a means to head back faster through the use of the Void Rose, Meisa wondered if she could use the time with the shadow clone to talk with the teen. Understanding where Zakito and Hisoka came from, Meisa had a different viewpoint. The young empress had perhaps 'run' in a certain way away from some important duties and taken along various participants who weren't yet ready for the dangers that they could and perhaps would encounter, Meisa wasn't of the opinion that the empress was in her wrong. If anything, it had only awoken Meisa's pride and curiosity in the girl more than before. The fact how she had handled the tense situation and planned the entire trip had made it clear that it wasn't done from impulse alone. Careful planning and cunning deceit were key for a successful nin, weren't they? So in a way she couldn't help but find it rather impressive that the young teen was able to keep up with surprising her as Zakito and Hisoka. At least, on how she was approaching matters.

So as the shadow clone made herself ready to cast the Void Rose, Meisa would look through their findings. Information about the particular kinjutsu, Earth Grudge Fear, was a particularly interesting find. Not that they could find an intact documentation on how some experiments had been done and the results, but enough that would likely give an insight on how it worked or could be countered. Then there was also a certain sealing technique that was rather simple but could be quite useful. One that could be developed into allowing a person becoming a key to open complicated sealing barriers. Which instantly made some ideas spring up in Meisa's mind and imagination.

Noticing that the dark sphere was created, Meisa noticed the frustration in the eyes of the teen. A calm expression as stance was held up, but Meisa noticed a familiar and certain 'light' in the eyes of the teen. So as she passed the shadow clone to enter the black sphere Meisa would pat the clone's shoulder.

"You did the right thing," the woman said as she would walk into the embrace of the sphere while holding on to the found papers and documents. Slowly the sphere would start to break, allowing some light moving in. Noticing that she was in a field Meisa had to look around before she realised where she was. Instead of being in Konohagakure, she found herself outside of it. In a field, from where she could see the tall, stout walls in the distance.

Starting to whistle, Meisa would pick up a reasonable, calm walking pace. Frowning for a moment as she stopped whistling she thought to how the tune went. "Should probably ask Zakito if he remembers it."

Niji Yakei

Just a little ditty to re-introduce Niji

Kumogakure

It wasn't a bad day but for a long time Niji, a kunoichi of the cloud, had been pretty in the dumps over her own personal issues. Most of her time had been spent keeping herself in shape and in practice and she felt rather content by that, but she needed to do more if she was going to become a useful member of the cloud's shinobi.

"Alright, I requested you two to assist in training my daughter today." Gado Yakei, her father, said to two men whom looked to be typical ruffians as they stood opposing her in the training hall.
"And that's to help refine her ability at managing multiple aggressors whilst keeping her charge safe, she may be a trained shinobi but she's trying to use as little lethal force as she can allow and incapacitation doesn't always work as quickly a threat to someone's life would. In this session, I will stand behind her and all you have to do is get past her and touch me, that's all it takes to put your charge at risk. She can't move me and I will stay right here, understand?" The two men nodded and squared up to Niji, whom had been stood waiting the whole time.

"Do you understand, Niji? You have to knock them both out without letting them touch me." She nodded in response to her father's question and readied herself, staff in hand as the two men drew knives.

"Really, father... Blades?" The woman let out an annoyed breath as she spoke, tightening her grip on her staff.
"Just because you're not using lethal force, doesn't mean anyone you've got to fight to protect your charge wont be."

There was no warning as the two men sprung forwards, it was easy to tell that one was going straight for her to let the other get past, lunging at her with his knife. In response she deftly swept the leg of the first man out from underneath him before he had finished his lunge to land him square on his back as she continued her sweeping momentum, brought her staff up and over the head of the other man so that she could take his legs out from beneath him with a kick and slam him into the ground as well.

She didn't get any respite as the first was up once more, grabbing for her arm to yank her off to the side whilst his friend got back up, causing a brief stumble until she got her footing back and lashed out with a sharp jab to the side and another sweep of the legs. It was the easiest way to bring an opponent to the ground and Niji was well practised in it by now. She followed it up with another jab to the man's solar plexus to knock the wind out of him as she leapt over his body to grab the other man as he'd reached out towards Gado.
A few steps back was all she needed to make as she suddenly hefted the man up with all her might and slammed him down ontop of his friend with a suplex.

Once she'd recovered her ground and stood before them, staff at the ready once more she saw that only one of them was trying to get back into the fight, groaning and rubbing the back of his head. The first guy looked to be out for the count as he pulled himself out of the way and sat against the wall, no doubt she'd have to make it up to him later if she'd gone a bit too far with that move.

Niji's gaze refocused on the second man as he stepped forwards to confront her. She'd expect him to just make another foolish lunge but that wouldn't be the case as he sprung forwards and full-bodily tackled her to the ground, keeping her pinned down with his body weight. Niji had grabbed his wrists in response after finding herself pinned and it seemed the pair of them were at an impasse, he couldn't finish her with his knife and it looked like she couldn't fight him off of her from such a position.

Instead of admitting defeat, she used a bit of flexibility to raise her legs and lock them around his throat, pulling him backwards and starting to choke him. He tried to bring his hands up to help prevent him from choking but she kept a firm grip on them so he couldn't move so freely.

"Well that's enough of that, stop rolling around on the floor." Gado suddenly spoke up, much to Niji's surprise, she looked over to see that the first guy had gotten back up and taken advantage of the compromising situation to walk up to and touch Gado on the shoulder. "You seemed to be doing well... But remember what I said, you needed to incapacitate them, be it by knocking them out or tangling them in those nets of yours. Unfortunately you thought he had lost the will to fight, but only simple thugs would be that easy to stop." He criticized, wearing a small frown, a lesson well learnt.

All he got in response was a tired sigh before she spoke, having untangled herself from the second man and gotten onto her feet. "I understand... Next time I'll do better father." She bowed in apology. "You two are free to leave, if you're willing you're free to come back for the next session." He didn't get much of a reply from them as they were already beginning to leave by the time he spoke, rounding his attention to Niji once more. "Let's hope that you improve for next time, I'd rather not have to take even more time out of my employee's days to see such a performance again, even if you were fairly successful, you still failed to knock either of them out fully. You're dismissed, go train or rest, whatever you think you should do."

Another sigh escaped Niji as she nodded and left, heading to her room to stow away her staff and katana. She quietly stood for a moment, looking at the sheathed blade and thought for a moment. She didn't need this if she had her staff, but it felt oddly comfortable keeping it on her person, the only other reason to keep it was in case she had to use lethal force during a mission. In the end she set it down next to her staff and headed out for a walk, she could probably walk off the aggravation of messing up that training session.

Although there was a new Icha Icha book out, she could probably buy that and add it to her collection at least, that'd be nice.

[fieldbox=The Hyuuga Whisperers]
Summary: Hiraku and Tomiko go through some troubles to attempt to establish communications between Ame and the Konoha ninja that are currently there. Seeing that Eiji isn't in his office when they try, they leave his assistant with a communicator as a back-up plan for communications before heading off with Sairento to talk to Eiji about setting up communications.

Tomiko heard the orders given by Aiko, and gave a quick "Yes Ma'am" to ackowledge that she understand the orders. Normally, the girl would have felt some level of excitement at the chance to meet some of the higher-ups in the village, however now she felt a bit numb from what she had done. After Kazumo had set out, Tomiko looked up towards Hiraku briefly before turning her attention in the direction that they needed to go. "We should probably aim to get communication up as soon as possible. Might have to avoid stepping in to sotp others from getting hurt." She mused calmly, then started walking towards the edge of the roof and activating the Byakugan with a small handseal. Looking around, she shook her head slightly as she took a deep breath. "Streets still look messy, rooftops?" she asked Hiraku, waiting to hear an answer in return.

Hiraku nodded to Aiko upon receiving his orders, then glanced to Tomiko as she seemed greatly affected by having killed the man. Honestly, he could understand, and didn't think he had much room to talk, considering how he was when he killed someone. Plus, if it weren't Miko who had been the one killing this time, he might have seen whoever replaced her in the scenario with a bit less enthusiasm, but right now he had to do his best to shelf emotions until nothing else needed doing, as he had learned on his way to becoming a chuunin. Even if he might hate himself later. He sighed slightly, nodding as Tomiko said they might not be able to stop more people from getting hurt, at least for now. "More people will be hurt if we try to help on our own than if we do what we're told immediately." He nodded once more as she suggested rooftops, and mentally prepared himself. "Let's get there, establish communications, then work alongside them from there to help as many people as possible."

"Establish communications, then report back. I don't want to get in trouble in case there is more we have to do." The girl responded, before taking a few steps back and focusing on the rooftop ahead. She softly mumbled to herself "Focus. You had to do it.", then ran forwards and took a leap to the next building over. Fortunately, most of the buildings around here were close enough that she had quite an easy time jumping between them. Once she landed on the other roof, Tomiko took a moment to look around with her Byakugan. She was not terribly sure anything would be in their way up here, but the girl would be lying if she said there wasn't a desire to keep in mind how things were going down there. With that thought crossing her mind, Tomiko went back to moving from rooftop to rooftop alongside her brother, heading towards the Central Office.

Hiraku nodded, "I wasn't saying not to report back and get more orders, just that what we do will hopefully help people." He reactivated his Byakugan, then heard her mumble something and jump, quickly following after, as he had still been more worried about her than he could afford to be for the sake of the mission, and he mostly still was. As they jumped from rooftop to rooftop, he took note of where things seemed to be chaotic, in the hopes they could cut down on the need to search areas for disturbances and put more work into simply dealing with them once the communications were up.

While Hiraku was searching for the areas that seemed to be more chaotic, Tomiko was keeping an eye on the chakra signatures of those they passed. She wouldn't be forgetting that chakra flux anytime soon, and figured it might be a good idea to try to spot it, just in case. After just a little bit longer of travelling, the two had made it to the central office, and past the security ensuring rioters didn't come storming the building. Soon enough, after asking around, the two were directed to Amekage Assistant's office. On their way, the two were intercepted by a rather tall man, who seemed like he was slightly stressing. He looked over the two before speaking in a calm, yet firm tone.

"You two the ones looking for the Amekage Assistant?" the man asked, looking at the two before focusing on Hiraku, who seemed the older of two and likely in charge. "He's not present, but I am his... assistant so to speak. Something I can help you with?"

Hiraku frowned slightly, glancing to Tomiko before looking back to the man who was saying he was the assistant to the Amekage's assistant. "Yes, Aiko Cho-Hon sent us to establish communications. Is there any way we can contact him to get him back, or are you able to help us with that?" He glanced back in the direction of the door, whether he could see it or not, "If there's any chance we can do this quickly and efficiently, that'd be great, I don't like letting people suffer out there."

Shaking his head, the man cast a look towards Hiraku. A few moments later, after contemplating something briefly, "Unfortunately, not sure I have the authority to call him back here quickly. I'd direct you to the Jounin Commander, but she is occupied." the man said, pausing for a breath as a small voice spoke up from Hiraku's side.

"Where is he then? We can go to him." Tomiko said quickly, looking between the two before muttering a small "Sorry for interrupting."

Hiraku nodded slightly before glancing to Tomiko as she spoke up. "It's fine, Miko. She sent both of us to establish communications, not just one of us." He looked back to the man and focused back on the subject at hand, however, "Maybe you don't, but it's more a question of whether we can tell him that we're trying to set up communications in the first place so we can get the orders on who he'd like us to talk to in his place. Or we can try to head out and talk with him personally, like Miko suggested." He glanced to Miko, hoping saying that would encourage her to jump in if she felt something was important.

"Don't know if he brought his communicator. So I do not know if I can give you two his position." The man said, before another voice joined the conversation. This one from behind Hiraku and Tomiko.

"Not sure if he brought it either, however, I happen to know where the Amekage Assistant is. I'd be happy to escort the two of you. I also have a matter I'd like to mention to him as well." said a tall man. He, unlike the one talking to Tomiko and Hiraku, was wearing more easily recognizable Shinobi gear. Hanging from his hip was the mask usually worn by the ANBU forces. He looked towards the trio talking, waiting to hear back on his offer.

Hiraku looked towards the new person arriving and nodded. "Alright." He thought for a second before looking back to the assistant. "In case something goes wrong on our way to him, or he says to come back here to establish communications, I can give you one of our communicators to do what you can. If you're too busy worrying about other things to try to set-up a makeshift communications center though, especially with the possibility that it'll be useless soon if we set up another one, I can keep it with me."

"It can't hurt to have a backup plan. I'll take the communicator, if you're able to let it go without annoying your commander." replied the assistant, who then held his hand out for the communicator.

Tomiko turned around to face the man who would be leading them, and immdiately noticed the mask. Was he an ANBU? The girl briefly wanted to ask, but figured it rude to do so. Instead she silently watched him, waiting to start heading out to meet the Amekage Assistant.

Sairento nodded at the group before turning away for a second and saying some things into his communicator. Giving a heads up to his fellow ANBU that they would be heading that way, and to update him if Eiji moved on from his current position. After the older one finished his exchange with the assistant, Sairento would nod towards them. "Shall we head out then? The name's Sairento by the way." he said with a pleasant smile. G

Hiraku removed his communicator, handing it over to the man. "We can get it back after the chaos subsides, and Miko's got one anyway, so she can tell me if anything important is said." He turned towards the anbu, nodding as the man suggested they get going as well as introducing himself. "My name's Hiraku, and this is my younger sister Tomiko." He took it upon himself to introduce his sister, seeing as she'd been overall a bit unfocused since earlier. He flashed a quick smile to the anbu in return, and then glanced to Tomiko, "Pay close attention to what's said on the communicator, since only you can hear it now, alright?"

Tomiko was about to speak up, offering her name before Hiraku introduced himself and her. She simply nodded and then looked towards Hiraku. "Of course. Will do that." she said, as the leading them nodded, and turned to head back out into the streets. The two followed him, and quickly began making their way towards where Eiji was at. There wasn't anymore conversation from Sariento, as he really only checked on the two to see that they were still following. Right now there was buisness at the hand, and he had to report to Eiji.

Hiraku and Tomiko followed Sairento towards the location, the sound of the chaos masking the silence between the three. After some travelling, they saw a red-haired man, who was assumedly Eiji, in the middle of a large crowd, talking to them. The three of them agreed to let him finish his conversation before interacting with him, unless it took more than a minute or two.

[fieldbox=Johnathon Housha]
John thought about the locations that Ryu could be at. She was certainly smart, and with one eye and not a lot of training, she might think to avoid fighting and let others do their jobs while she's having troubles. So he came to the conclusion that she could be at his apartment trying to find him, at Eiji's office, outside the walls, or in the training fields. He went ahead and crossed off the options of outside the walls and his apartment, because both of those could be just as dangerous as anywhere in the streets. The training fields could very well have rioters as well, so he decided to head towards Eiji's office, hoping to find her there.

[fieldbox=Shin Yuki is tired as always]
Shin yawned as he approached the meeting point for today's mission. He found his way to the rooftop and noticed another new face. "It's like there's someone new every week..." He glanced to Mika for a second, figuring she wouldn't want to deal with any pleasantries, so he looked to Taishiro, "Hi, I'm Shin." As the one seemingly stable teammate, Shin began to wonder where Aya was. "Hayashi-sensei, is Aya later than me, this time?"

Meilin Cho
Genin of Konoha Team 7/ Team Meilin,
Konohagakure, the main hospital.
Help given and offered.

This was the hospital? It quite huge, much bigger than she had anticipated. But that was likely due to the fact that she wasn't sure if it was the only hospital or just the largest in the city. That and she had never felt the urge or being in the need to visit it. And that was something she actually wanted to keep like that, but this wasn't a visit because she felt sick or something was wrong with her.
Entering the complex she would talk to a few as she had been expected. Being guided by somebody of the administrative personnel to the desired wing where she would meet with Mister Chang, Meilin threw curious glances around.
The building had something serene to it. The main theme seemed to be 'clean' white with some plants. Considering the purpose Meilin wondered if there was any particular reason why some flowers and plants were chosen. Or perhaps it was just decorations? Remaining silent as she was guided Meilin wondered once more if this was a real punishment or some subtle nudge of a reward.
Eventually, she arrived at a hall where people were being checked by medical-nin. The application of medical ninjutsu was being used in a superficial manner so far Meilin could detect. The man who had been her guide led her to a man who nodded to a young man.

"That should do it. Now, please do take care when you head to work tomorrow," the man said with an amused tone in his voice. Spotting Meilin and her guide, the man rubbed his right wrist for a moment. "I take it that you're the promised aid in this hour of need?" The man asked with the amused tone in his voice not diminishing.

Her guide would walk away as Meilin would just slowly nod.
"I suppose so, sir," she answered as the teen bowed towards the man, "Meilin Cho, at your service. "
"Ah! I have heard good things about you and am glad to receive the aid of such a respectful, young lady!" The man stated as he clapped his hands together. "I can't be around all the time, but I heard that you already know the basics of medical ninjutsu, so," gesturing, with spreading his arms out, the man spoke further, "Go ahead and see if you can lend us a well-needed hand."

Meilin found herself confused again, wanting to ask what exactly she should do, but the man was already dealing with somebody else demanding his attention. Biting her lower lip for a moment the teen looked around her. What she so far could make out of the activities around her was that there were people that were either in pain or in need to be checked. Walking for a moment forward she could spot a man who sat on a chair while holding his right shoulder. From his facial expression, it was clear that he wasn't feeling well or at least being content with something.
Raising her right hand up to brush aside some strands of hair, Meilin decided to approach him. A disarming smile would find its way to her lips before she would speak up.
"Sir, can I help you with something?"
The question was at first met with a quick glance, the man clearly wondering if she could even help him. Grunting he would turn more towards her as he began to speak up. Explaining that he felt a painful aching from his shoulder Meilin nodded before walking around.
"It started all yesterday when I was lifting some goods as my son is moving out." he further added.
Seeing that the man seemed to be of an advanced age, Meilin already had a hunch on what was wrong. Standing at the back of the man she would gently place her right hand on his shoulder.
"Could you please say when I am near the spot of the pain?" She asked him, to which he grumbled a yes.
Trailing her fingers over his shoulder Meilin half closed her eyes. Her first assumption was that the man had simply overworked and perhaps stretched his arm in a manner that caused some aches. Not something that entirely was in need of medical ninjutsu as Meilin asked further. Judging by the answers of the man she would ask for him to have a moment of patience.

Walking away she tried to find a person who was more or less in charge of medical supplies or herbs. It took her five minutes to both find a woman who seemed to be in charge of the personnel in the room as well getting the supply she asked for. Returning to the man Meilin held up a small bottle with a beige coloured liquid in it.
"This might help to ease the aching a bit sir," she said as she would hand him the small bottle. Explaining that he would need to have the spot be rubbed twice a day, once in the morning and then again in the evening, the man thanked her. After the exchange of some money, Meilin felt actually quite good. Putting the money in her own pocket she looked around.

Many hours passed and Meilin saw how fewer people came in and eventually everybody left. Weighing the coin she had managed to earn today Meilin noticed the man off before walking towards her.
"And?" He just asked, a smile playing on his lips.
"I think it went quite good today. Unless you have any tips or advice for me, for the next time?" Meilin answered, placing her hands on her back. On her answer, the man shook his head lightly.
"I would love to help out more next time when you're here but you did a great job so far on your own. We can use all the help as today was quite calm."

Was today calm? Then again this was probably the place where people with minor and less urgent matters came to be helped. Though she hadn't used much chakra Meilin felt exhausted after a 'calm' day work.
Shoving her right hand into her pocket Meilin considered something.
"I also believe this is yours, sir," Meilin said as she would pull out the money from her pocket and hold it up towards him.

The man frowned for a second but then shook his head. "It is okay. Was wondering if you were going to give it but," he grinned, "Consider it yours. See you next time, Miss Cho. Might I have some time free, I will try to see if I can teach you something new."
Pleasantly surprised, Meilin flashed a smile. Nodding she would thank him for putting the money back in her pocket. Turning around on her heels she decided to head home. This seemed to be anything but a punishment, so far she could detect.

With the sky growing dark quickly was a clear reminder with the cold temperature that winter was just around the corner. Meilin wondered for a moment about several things on her walk back. Lost in thoughts, she wasn't paying too much attention to her surrounding.

"And how was your day?"

The familiar voice, phrased in Chonobi, made Meilin being pulled from her thoughts as she looked to her right, the direction from which the voice came from. There the old man sat, a small pipe being held with his left hand as faintly some smoke could be spotted.

"Okay, I guess," Meilin answered as she came to a halt. She wasn't still certain if this was the infamous Jin. A name that was held in high regard by the Cho Guard and people. Then again, the name Jin wasn't that uncommon, but how many old men were capable of vanishing and doing the things this man had? Her curiosity once more got the better off her as she turned towards him.
"How was yours, sir?" Meilin asked in a polite tone.
The man chuckled at first.
"I suppose that it has been interesting. Arranged somebody to teach you some swordsmanship tomorrow. Mak--"
"Not to be rude, sir, but why would you do such a thing?" Meilin asked, frowning by the mere thought that he had arranged somebody to teach her.
Jin's head tilted slightly to the right. Leaning on his cane he seemed quite fragile and old, but there was a certain way of how he spoke and looked that made it clear to Meilin that made her believe it wasn't the case. Not to mention that her first encounter had led in making it clear that this Jin wasn't that fragile and old as he looked like now.
"Cause before I will teach you, I want you to know the basics. Tomorrow, in the Hon compound there will be a young man," he started as he further explained more about this tutor. Meilin listened, both curious and perplexed of the new development.
Just as her lips parted the old man sighed and shook his head.
"Spare your questions for later. I am getting it cold. Be on time tomorrow and make sure to pay attention. Would hate to see some money go to waste," the man said before leaving.
Looking at how the man walked away Meilin wasn't sure anymore what to think of the old man. Knowing that it was perhaps better to ignore it, she wouldn't nor couldn't. Continue to head home she would see what tomorrow would bring. Perhaps some answers on who the old man truly was and his intentions?

Kiyomi Homura I,

| Empres | Akinian Empire | Konohagakure, the Royal Palace |

A quick step to the left was taken as she leant her body away. Feeling a brief sensation of air passing her by, Kiyomi narrowed her eyes. Waiting for the blunt sword to pass her by the teen started her offensive again. Swinging her own blunt sword at her opponent she didn't care much for technique or holding back. The last was even quite stupid against her current spar partner, who was keeping a calm posture about the fierce slashes, jabs and manoeuvres that the empress was pulling off.

Narrowing her eyes Kiyomi quickly stepped back as she brought her own blade up, parrying an incoming riposte. Driven back into her defence the teen tried to hold her ground, but it was a lost cause. Exhausted and frustrated she wasn't any match for her opponent. With a quick sweep of his own blade, the Sworn Sword in front of her, moved her blade away and managed to deliver a punch in her stomach. Causing Kiyomi to gasp for air as she fell on her knees after the impact. Leaning a bit forward she blinked her eyes to drive the blur away from her vision.

It remained silent as the few present watched how the teen struggled to get up. "Again," she grumbled, attempting to take a stance. Biting on her lower lip she noticed that the Sworn Sword in front of her wavered for a moment. In a quick movement, the teen shot forward, the blade already swung to land a blow. Instead, it was deflected and she was pushed back. Before Kiyomi could react she felt how her feet were swept from the ground, causing her to land on the ground. A soft groan escaped her.

"This is enough," a masculine voice spoke up. Having watched the teen attempting, for now, seven tries in a row to continue had tested Katashi's patience. Throwing a look at the Sworn Sword in front of Kiyomi, the Sarutobi commander whistled softly. As it was clear that they were dismissed, the present Sworn Swords would bow deeply towards the empress before walking away. One wavered, throwing a glance at Katashi before walking away.

"Your grace--," Katashi began but he wasn't able to continue further than phrasing those two words.
"Again!" Kiyomi grumbled as she attempting to get up. Clenching her left hand into a fist the teen barely managed to get sit upright. Spotting only now the bruises on her left arm Kiyomi remained still and silent for a moment. "I said, again."

The captain commander remained silent. He wasn't disappointed or disagreeing just for her health with continue the sparring. In fact, he was certain that he could understand the desire of the teen to continue, but he had a job to do. "I advise your grace to consider a rest. Pushing yourself too far might not be beneficial."

"Screw that," Kiyomi tried once more to get up. Managing she felt a shot of pain going through her body. It was hard to locate where it hurt the most, but she didn't want to care. "I gave an order, captain. I said, again," Managing to raise her blade Kiyomi threw a sideways glance at Katashi.

"Very well, your grace," Stepping forward he would lower the practice sword that had been resting against his right shoulder. Taking a stance he wouldn't make any move or attempt. Kiyomi, on the other hand, closed her left eye as she took a few steps to the left. Eyeing the calm and silent Sarutobi the teen made no attempt yet to test his defence. Having seen earlier how Katashi fought when it come down with swordplay Kiyomi was certain that she was at a disadvantage, but she wanted to fixate herself on the heat of the moment. That moment when swords clashed, edges meeting while each participant had to push him or herself to get the winning blow. The moment when adrenaline rushed through the body to make it focus on the brief exchange of blows to determine who would remain to stand.

Stepping forward Kiyomi would keep her sharp gaze on Katashi's movement. Moving her blade, a manoeuvre that would aim the blunt sword edge to slam against the man's defence, her eyes would widen as her movement was halted.

Feeling the cold, blunt steel against her throat Kiyomi licked her lips slowly. Narrowing her eyes she wasn't sure what had happened faster. Katashi stepping forward to 'end' the spar practically in a movement or their eyes locking on each other. Lowering her own blade Kiyomi's eyes moved away. Which caused Katashi to lower his own blade and taking a step back. "Shall I perhaps arrange a bath to warmed up for her grace?"

"Yeah... sure..."

Staring at the few bruises Kiyomi frowned. A sigh escaped her lips as she would close her eyes and lean backwards. While she still felt some spots - mostly her legs, arms and stomach - aching with pain from the spars there was something else bothering her. A pain that couldn't be relieved out by the delightful aroma nor the pleasantly warm water. Knowing what it was Kiyomi didn't acknowledge it. There was just no way that she would accept it. Opening her left eye she glanced to the side. There was a small bottle of some liquor that Kiyomi hadn't drunk before. A present sent called 'Bloody Victory'. A pun that would have made her chuckle softly, but now wouldn't do anything to make her wonder about her own victories.

It seemed that with each step something was taken away. And never something she could anticipate. Never something she could take back. Sighing again she would reach to grab the small bottle and open it. Knowing what would be said Kiyomi decided to not bother too much with what 'they' would say. It was clear that everybody was dealing with some loss or struggle, so nobody would likely lecture her. Opening the bottle Kiyomi sniffed it first. She had heard that was what experts of alcoholic beverages, certainly wine, did before tasting or drinking it. Taking a small sip she let the sweet taste move over her tongue. Frowning for a moment Kiyomi held the bottle up again. The colour was dreadfully close to the crimson that one could find on the battlefield. A colour that most wouldn't be quick to forget.

Taking a swig the teen felt the wine softly burn in her throat, but nothing too uncomfortable. Another swig followed after that as Kiyomi wondered for a moment about something. If it was true that the dead would go to the hall of Akumu then wouldn't there be a way to bring them back? Assuming, of course, that those who she had lost over the years were brought to the halls and promised land of the ancestors and the lord of the dead. Remembering the conversation she had with Shunso, Kiyomi took another swig of the 'Bloody Victory'. Scoffing she wouldn't need to think long what she would do if somebody's energy lived on.

Another swig followed, pouring the crimson liquid down her throat. Lowering the bottle Kiyomi grimaced for a second. Putting the now emptied bottle down the teen felt light in the head. The aching pain of before was at least now numbing, making her wonder if this was the real reason why people drink. Attempting to get up was, however, harder and almost did she slip. Deciding to lay longer in bath Kiyomi would lift her right hand. It felt weird. Slow and soft. Comfortable.

A meeting,
Konohagakure - Uchiha Compound.

A collab between Fieryfly and Oetje.

Summary :
Send to meet up with the clan leader of the Uchiha clan, Meilin's day start in an unexpected way as she has been chosen to ask the Uchiha leader a question or two.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[spoili]
It was quite strange, Meilin thought to herself. Nearing the Uchiha compound she felt nervous while knowing that there was at least one operative from the Assassins of the Rose following her. Keeping an eye on her. Yet why didn't it comfort her? Was it perhaps the nature of this meeting? Her nose wrinkled as she wondered if it was because she was having an official meeting with a clan leader. Well, not just one of a small clan, but of one of the prominent clans. Remembering what she knew about the Uchiha she hoped that what she had been taught and studied would suffice. If something would go wrong, there was no telling what would happen to her. And she doubted that it would just be a pat on the head and letting her go if this Shozo Uchiha didn't like her. The only hope was that the man regarded the Cho clan good enough that they wouldn't let him just hurt her. If it would come to that, she thought to herself to calm herself.
Entering the compound Meilin didn't have much trouble to blend in. It wasn't, after all, that the Uchiha were different. They were normal humans who woke up, got dressed and then headed to work. Focusing on her breathing the teen took more comfort in that she wasn't wearing any extravagant or would bring up any attention. There was even a brief temptation to make use to explore the Uchiha compound as she hadn't ever visited it. Then again, she never had any reason to visit them, which caused Meilin to think about that.
Pushing the tempting thoughts away Meilin approached the building, which was different than she had imagined it to be. Somehow she had expected it to be smaller and less beautiful. But that was probably because she didn't expect that Uchiha to rival her own clan in terms of architectural beauty.
Half closing her eyes Meilin would enter the building, trying not to throw a look at the guards. After she had reported herself, all she had to do was wait for what would follow. The need to stand in a corner and keep the room she was in under watch was big, but the teen restricted herself to give the image she wasn't distrustful of her surrounding. That could, after all, be received as an insult.
Meilin wouldn't have to wait long. Only ten minutes later a guard, dressed in the traditional dark blue and grey colors, would appear before her and would request her to follow him. There was no smile present on his face as he informed her of this, it was a face of duty. He guided her through a long and wide hallway deeper into the compound, past several shoji doors that the guard opened without a sound. After a short walk they emerged outside again, this time on a wooden sidewalk that stretched itself out along the interior garden of the building. A neatly groomed field of grass stretched itself out before the two. A beautifully decorated pond with bamboo surrounding it to the far left side. The garden seemed to have three different levels, reachable by small cobbled paths that were spread out throughout the grass in an intricate network. In spring flowers would bloom here, but now, in winter, it had a sort of colorless perfection to it.
The guard halted before a shoji door that bordered this garden. He kneeled down before the door as he called out to the man that was sitting inside. He proclaimed that Miss Cho was here to see him just like announced and asked if she could come in. After a second or two confirmation would come from the room. The guard would give Meilin a look and then pushed the door aside, moving with it so that he would not be in Meilin's way. He then gestured that she should enter.
Instantly Meilin was curious to the guard. What kind of training had he received? Was it vastly different or similar to what the Cho Guard had to study, learn and experience? Perhaps it was a relative of the Uchiha clan leader or some distant cousin? Perhaps even a friend?
As she wondered about these things Meilin did try to not look either to curious or show any sign of discomfort. It did help that the areas that they walked in and past were pleasant for the eye. She wouldn't mind walking here later but doubt that they would allow her or that it was going to be appreciated in any way.
Walking into the room something occurred to her. Quickly did she throw a look sideways at the guard before settling her gaze on the garden Meilin walked further in a slow pace.
The brown eyes of the teen were for a moment lingering on the gardens. It was a place of beauty, but she wondered how many guards one could hide here. Deciding to not look too suspicious - in case she was being watched by guards, hidden away from her sight - Meilin continued. Upon spotting a man, she figured that this was the man she was supposed to meet.
Bringing her hands together - one fist held against the palm of an open hand- while making a deep bow, to form a traditional Cho-greeting. Remaining silent, Meilin would wait for the sign or word that she could approach the man.
Shozo Uchiha was sitting on the left side of the room, his back pointing towards a wall so that his eyes could observe the two doors that were on the left and right side of him at all times. Through one of them Meilin had just entered, the other was, opposite to that, was closed. Shozo was sitting on the ground, his knees resting on a comfortable looking cushion. Several folders lay next to him him as well as a set of writing utensils. A small empty table stood before him and behind that was another cushion, empty and clearly meant for whatever guest Shozo was going to receive. The walls of the room were neatly decorated with several woven pieces of fabric detailing various animals and people. The silver color of some of the used threads would shimmer in the sunlight that had come in as the door had opened. There was no other furniture present.
As Meilin entered the man remained seated, but his eyes moved towards her. He let her hold the greeting for a moment before speaking: "Miss Cho," his voice was smooth, even, trained. "You may come in. Please take a seat." He made no gesture towards the cushion, but it was clear that he expected her to sit down on it.
Straightening her back Meilin allowed herself to take a better look at the man. Assuming that this was Shozo Uchiha, she had expected a different kind of man. A veteran of battles, his skin being marked with the experience he had gained on the field of war and battle. Grim and serious.
The man present was no such image. He appeared as a man that seemed well dressed and she felt a small twinge of envy upon noticing his hair. Perhaps she should visit the Uchiha clan more often to discover if they had some secret in making their hair look outstanding?
"Thank you, Lord Uchiha," Meilin replied in a soft and respectful tone.
Approaching the cushion she would kneel down. Her right hand would slowly move to her left sleeve as she spoke up.
"Lady Cho apologises that she couldn't be present herself or anybody worthy of your present, Lord Uchiha. For that reason she hopes that this gift," the teen said as she would pull out a small steel dagger of her sleeve, "would make you forgive her. I am told that this is one made by one of the best smiths that the Hyuzu clan has and as a sign of friendship and trust between the Cho and Uchiha."
Carefully and slowly Meilin would place the dagger on the table. Falling back to silence as she knew that this wasn't some ordinary conversation where she could just speak up whenever she desired. Her eyes were even lowered.
For a moment Shozo's eyes remained on Meilin's features as she spoke and pulled out the dagger. Lady Hon-Cho had requested a meeting with him and had send a girl in her place. A girl Shozo had never seen nor heard of before. Her words were polite at least, and her gift no doubt generous, but Shozo wasn't a man that could be pleased by small trinkets. If he wanted trinkets he would be able to get those himself.
Still, Shozo stretched out both his hands and took hold of the small dagger. He held it up to the light for a moment as he examined its blade. Well made, there was no doubt about it and as he twisted and turned the thing to get a good view of it, he didn't miss the traditional Hyuzu mark that told him this piece of smithing was a honest and true object of craftsmanship. He placed the dagger back down. "Tell Lady Hon-Cho that the dagger is appreciated. I am assuming that Lady has a good reason for not attending a meeting she requested. I have heard Amegakure might be facing more than just rain." There was a pause in his words.
"So, what is it that the Cho clan wishes to discuss with me in such dire need that they send you?"
Folding her hands on her lap as she remained silent Meilin would speak up to answer Shozo's question.
"Yes, of course, lord Uchiha. Lady Cho is currently stuck in Amegakure but that if anything, she would be pleased to be graced with another meeting in person."
For a moment Meilin was almost considering if she shouldn't suggest if he would else want to wait on Lady Cho. Problem was that there was another reason why she was sent, but that would become clear later.
"I hope that I am not disappointing you, lord Uchiha. If I do in any way, then please accept my humble apologies," Meilin stated, surprised that she managed to speak that out in a still soft and respectful tone. Wondering only now why she would be disappointing, when she had spent an hour to make sure she wasn't too well dressed but at least looking proper she would shove the thought back to the back of her mind. She needed to focus.
"As for what my clan wishes to discuss with you good lord Uchiha," Meilin continued, "Is something of importance that we wanted to bring to you before acting upon it. There is some desire that you might know more of it as your wisdom and intelligence are well known."
Taking a pause, Meilin did remember the words but it was different now. She didn't know how the man would react or do once hearing the next comment, but it was a bit too late to book it.
"There has been grim news and now established proof that the sister of lord Nimatsu had been plotting and thus committing high-treason against the crown."
Politeness and respect were values Shozo held in high regard. For those that wished to hold conversation with him they would know that he would not converse unless he was spoken to in a tone that would be fitting for the distance in position between him and the one speaking. As such the girl was supposed to be acting polite and respectful indeed, and not babble. Disappoint him? There was no way that this girl could disappoint him, because he couldn't bring himself to care enough about her to feel disappointment. There was no connection between them. She was a messenger who babbled just a bit too much, but he guessed he would give that up to her nerves. She seemed young. Once again he wondered why Lady Hon-Cho would have send her. There were no coincidences with that woman so she must have arranged this specifically like this. Which meant that there was something about this girl that Shozo didn't know about. He disliked not knowing things.
But eventually she got to the point. The sister of the Nimatsu lord had been commiting high treason against the crown. To Shozo that had only seemed as a matter of time. The way the Hon Empress had claimed ruling over this land, no he didn't like it, and he had expected someone to go against it for awhile now. That it was the Nimatsu was honestly not that surprising. Their feud with the Hon was well known. Yet, to actually find proof of treason, he didn't think the small clan dared going that far.
"And what would the nature of this plotting be?" he asked the girl as calm as ever. "And why would Lady Hon-Cho think I would have any knowledge of this?"
This time Meilin raised her eyes slightly when answering the question. "The proof that her brother, the lord himself, admitted that his sister causing an," Meilin paused for a moment, "Uproar. I am certain that there is more to it, but not told to me. For practical reasons."
Pausing another time, Meilin continued.
"The question is if you knew more about this as this can be bad for any clan who is affliated one way or another with the Nimatsu. Certainly if it will turn out that there were more than the Nimatsu plotting something that could be described as treason. And if not, what you could suggest."
"An uproar, how vague." Shozo's eyes met Meilin's instantly as she looked up as if he had been waiting for her to raise them, as if he dared her to look into them. As she continued however, Shozo raised his chin at her words. "Each of the clans have their own little birds, that is for sure. And mine are spread far, but not as far as the Cho's, I am sure about that too. And yet here you are potentially suggesting that I might have known about this before hand and that I did not report this. If I would have known about this before I would have acted. As you said, knowing it might be bad for any clan as it might make it look like they are agreeing with such uproar." He kept his eyes on her as he folded his hands on the table.
"Which I do not." His statement was harsh and sudden. "I do not condone uproar within the land. The days of the Warring Clans are over after all. One might understand where the Nimatsu's distaste for the Hon is coming from seeing as large portions of the clan was wiped out not that long ago. However, I would not see large portions of the realm fall back into chaos. So no, you can inform Miss Hon-Cho that I certainly was aware of the Nimatsu's position, certainly after the marriage with the woman of Sunagakure," there was a heavy disdain in his voice as he spoke the name of the city. "And I might share certain cultural aspects with the clan, but my knowledge went only that far. And you might also tell her that I do not like being considered a traitor. As for suggestions." He seemed to brush over the last sentence as if it was nothing, but the weight of his words suggested otherwise. "I would suggest that I were to receive more information about this. I cannot help if I am blind. I would also suggest that my son will be informed of this as he is the governor of the Empire and will have access to most of the resources."
An apologising smile moved over the thin lips of the teen as she remained the same, but her heart skipped two beats.
"I am sorry lord Uchiha but it is all that I have been told. For good reasons," Meilin said on the same tone as before, "I am thus sorry that I can't provide more on this delicate and troublesome matter," she said while now keeping her eyes locked on his. Knowing fully well that this could be the last minute that she drew breath if the man was in league with the plot to either cause trouble or worse, then she figured she at least wanted to die with looking up. Not a fun thought, but remembering that she had some right on a bit of pride Meilin did hope that there wouldn't be a knife or blade thrust through her back.
"Doubtful, lord Uchiha," Meilin answered once more. "I am certain that if Lady Cho wasn't held up in Amegakure that she would have come herself. If this does bring any question between the friendship that exists between our clans in existance then I was ordered to tell you that you're free to do as you want."
The last sentence was one that Meilin didn't want to utter. Knowing her duty, however, she wouldn't flinch or make it clear that it was clearly uncomfortable for her. Not reacting on how far stretched the operatives of the Cho clan could be, Meilin was sure of it. This man knew a thing or two that could make this head in a direction she wasn't feeling easy about.
But as the man spoke Meilin felt a bit at ease. The man wasn't in league with the plot, which would make it less likely he would have her taken out. Taken good care, she would memorise the words one by one, Meilin would offer a deeper bow.
"I will inform Lady Cho of this all, Lord Uchiha," Meilin said, "I am certain that there was no fear that you were considered a traitor for the bond between our people is held precious by the Lady Cho."
Straightening her back, Meilin flashed a friendly smile.
"Of course, Lord Uchiha. I apologise once more if this meeting has brought anything discomforting up. Your words shall be heard by Lady Cho, I promise that."
Slowly Shozo let his eyes drift away from Meilin's as if she didn't hold his interests any longer. Or maybe his mind was simply going over the new information he had just recieved and how to react upon it. The Cho already had their claws in it if they came to request information from him. If anything they should have send a better messenger. And that was still bothering him.
His eyes shot back to Meilin as she bowed and offered more word of apology to him. Shozo wasn't interested. Nor was he in her words. If the Cho hadn't considered the option that he might have known something they wouldn't have come here, meaning that the idea that he might have been working with the Nimatsu had crossed their minds indeed. That thought alone was gravely insulting. Shozo's fingers went back to the neatly crafted dagger that was still lying on the table.
"There was no discomfort." There was a brief pause. "What is your name?" he asked then slowly.
This was bad, she figured. Why would he want her name? She was in a manner of speaking a nobody. While managing to uphold her masker Meilin felt her guts screaming at her to make a run for it. There wasn't any room to make a joke either, cause she wagered that it would just be making things worse for her. Neither was lying an option if he would be able to figure that out.
"Meilin Cho, Lord Uchiha," Meilin answered back.
There was some hoping that she would be able to remain hidden later from him. How common was her name? Pretty common, hopefully. Feeling how she started to get it warmer, Meilin would remain further silent.
Shozo nodded in silence as she spoke her name. He would make sure to remember it for when he met Lady Hon-Cho. After she had come back from Amegakure. But trouble was brewing there and he figured that she wouldn't be back soon. That could give him time to get some more information at least. On this affair and on that of Amegakure itself. The city was proving to be quite a handful now that it had joined the Empire. Maybe it had known about it and had hoped that the Empire would indeed step in.
"You are dismissed. I hope I can meet Lady Hon-Cho soon to fortify our... friendship." He shot Meilin another look as he said the last word as it was one she had used.
Bowing her head, Meilin would raise herself up. Lowering her head once more while giving the man the traditional Cho-greeting Meilin would take a few steps backwards, before turning on her heels. Walking away from Shozo Meilin felt still uneasy. She didn't like it that she had to give her own name but decided to not worry too much about it. Hopefully, the man would forget soon how she even looked like. It would benefit her only more if somebody like him wouldn't remember her in this kind of situation.
Koike Hon,
Specialized Jounin | Konoha Team 6 | Lieutenant-Captain | Konohagakure, at home.
Summary :
Wait, a summary? Yes, that's right. And be glad that I put it into a spoili. At first, the post was 2000 words longer, but I decided to cut some parts off. Small input from @Oetje. The post is basically what Koike has been busy with after his return with also two new developments that will occupy him for some time.
[spoili]
So far, all had gone rather peacefully. Reading the latest letter Koike felt a bit sorry. Due to the mobilisation, it was impracticable for him to travel towards Ardara, the city which was viewed as the cultural capital of the Sarutobi people. It was where the funeral for Shizu would be held, which was being organised after he had sent out letters to various people that she had passed away. There hadn't been any letter requesting her body or other requests or questions. The few personal possessions that he had gathered from her corpse in Amegakure and what had remained in his home had been sending to her uncle, Ling Sarutobi, who lived in Konohagakure. Other than that Koike was more or less 'done' with it. The formal letters were nothing but required, but he doubted that he would keep connections with the passed away young woman's relatives. Their marriage had been quite short and it was clear that it wasn't one arranged out of love. Not that he found anything wrong with that but he was, in fact, happier that Katsu had taken the life of Shizu than ending up crippled or worse. All aware that his friend was probably feeling insecure how to deal with it Koike already had made the decision to just wait and give his friend some space and time. The time and space that he could invest in some of his own business and affairs.
Folding the letter and placing it together with the other letters that he had exchanged with Shizu's relatives. Not that he was considering them to become important later, but somehow he found it only appropriate to keep them safe. For at least some time. Sighing he would rub his neck for a moment as he considered what all stood on his schedule for today. There was a meeting with his uncle, which was likely about Shizu's passing away, and then he wanted to prepare some matters for the Guardians. Already certain that Hayate wouldn't request his help, but would appreciate some help that could generate some free time, Koike decided to not linger any longer at home. Getting properly dressed he would head out. A large, black canine following him.
"And that was what occurred, Lord Commander, sir," Koike ended his report on what he had experienced and seen in Amegakure. While he desired to head back and be of aid to make sure Aiko and Kazumo wouldn't get injured, Koike wouldn't doubt their capability on solving the disorder in the provincial capital of the Rain. Keeping his hands on his back the young man wondered about something. There was something off about his uncle, but he wasn't certain what.
"I see," Zakito slowly said. He wasn't content with the situation, but it was a delicate matter. Sending troops without considering how it would be greeted could only make the situation worse. While there was a chance that the locals would be relieved with imperial troops entering the city and restoring order, it could also have the reverse effect - effectively backlashing at the good intention. Perhaps it would be more effective to send a group or two, composed out of Zero Team members to first collect more information and aid the local authorities before making a big decision. What only troubled him more about the whole ordeal was that Kiyomi would be required to head to Amegakure to elect the next Amekage. "Ah, I also wish to give you this. Am certain that you're already busy enough, but I require a person with certain qualities for this task."
Koike saw how the commander picked up a scroll and reached it out to him. Accepting the sealed scroll Koike would break the seal and roll it out. Reading it quickly, a frown would appear on his brow. "I don't think that I should be doing this, lord commander, sir."
Already having anticipated the young man saying such a thing Zakito leant back once more in his seat. "The previous colonel of the Thirteenth Brigade died two weeks ago. While I could enlist another and perhaps more experienced person to fill in the void, there are various... complications that wouldn't make it really easy to see such transition go without much complaint," Zakito explained in a calm tone. "I have already searched for other potential candidates, but seeing of what the brigade is composed out of and the fact that they are mobilised to venture east I considered you being a prime candidate."
Folding the scroll Koike wasn't sure how to reply. In a certain way, it was something that he considered an honour, but he felt his place was with the Guardians. Before he could state what made it near impossible for him to accept or agree, Zakito continued on. "I am aware that you don't wish to be separated from your brothers and sisters in arms that serve in the Guardians. Seeing that I expect that the Guardians won't constantly be as one unit, the captain-commander of the Guardians might be more at ease knowing one of his own lieutenants is able to provide command over a brigade. At least, having an easier time than somebody who the men and women in the brigade can't relate to or respect as much as they would when you're not there to lead them."
Nodding slowly Koike wanted to ask how Zakito was certain that the Thirteenth Brigade would respect him, but he considered that the man wasn't just going off on assumptions. Not going to question the man's capability of researching and picking out people, Koike remained silent.
"Then there is something else. I have been keeping this more or less away. Seeing the value it has to me I was hoping you would accept it. These are troubling times for everybody, but you would do me a great pleasure and honour to accept it," the man continued, rising up from his seat. As the commander did so Koike was still not certain what was troubling the man. If anything he seemed to be a decade older than he actually was, which was only worrying and confusing Koike.
Opening a drawer Zakito would reach out and grab another sealed scroll. "It once belonged to your father. I had the best smiths in Ecla work to repair and make it into a proper state, once more."
Looking at the scroll, Koike remained still and silent. Slowly he would accept it and stare at the sealed scroll for a moment. The red wax that sealed the scroll had the inscription of a snarling dire wolf head. The symbol of his clan.
"I am certain he would be proud of you, Koike."
"Thanks... sir."
Opening the door Koike waited for Akumu to enter the house first. Closing the door behind him there was a strange sensation. A certain anxious desire to see what was in the scroll. A few things already had passed his mind on what Zakito had gifted him. Something that belonged to his father. Locking the door first, the young man would go to his room where he had most of his gear in racks and standards. Placing the scroll down on a table the young man decided to first get something to drink.
Grabbing a bottle of sake Koike would return back to the room. Opening the bottle he would take a swig before placing it down. Cautiously breaking the seal he rolled the scroll out. Seeing a summoning formula with some words, Koike's eyes closed for a second. Leaning on the table with both hands he remained like this for a moment.
Placing the scroll on the floor he would sink on his knees. For a moment he just kept staring at the summoning formula. Slowly a blue hue would gather at his right finger top, forming a small chakra sphere. Pricking his left hand the blue hue of chakra would vanish before Koike would place his left hand on the centre of the formula. Pouring chakra through his hand into the formula and scroll would lead to the result of a soft poof, introducing a white, faint cloud of smoke into the room for a second. A suit of armour was laying in front of him, neatly organised and folded. A heavy sigh escaped the young man as he would reach out.
The armour seemed to be of less traditional design. Recognising some of the more samurai influence, there was the clear influence of his clan in the design and shape of the armour. Inspecting it Koike wasn't certain what to think of it. He felt both inspired and ... afraid. If this had belonged to his father, a man who had been respected, loved and followed by his kinsmen, then was he worthy of wearing it just because he was his remaining son? The idea that he had the right to wear and use it because of being the son of Sahoru Hon seemed wrong. Thus he kept staring at it. Pondering on why he would be worthy to wear such gear on the campaign to the eastern continent. Deciding that he would ponder on this for another time, Koike would start to give the armour a place. Having an empty standard he would start to place the armour with care on the standard, with an almost ritual cautiousness.
The rest of the day had passed without any disturbance. Studying the maps and information that they had for use Koike studied what he could about the eastern continent. His biggest concern was the way back. The fact that they had to cross a sea didn't sit well with him. He had never travelled by ship. There had never been any need for it and the idea that if they would be forced to head back home that they would need to rely on ships to transport them back to the west was annoying. If any enemy would be able to cut their way off from reaching the coast or make it possible to sail back home then they would be more or less stuck in the east. A place far away from home. Not an attractive situation in his opinion.
For that reason, Koike started to formulate and ponder on strategies. What kind of communications could be used and were already in use so that they always could attempt to head back home if there was any need for it. Time went faster by than Koike had noticed as he had started his work when the sun was still out there, but when he considered himself done the sky was already starting to darken.
It could very well be the fact that they were facing winter, which saw the days becoming shorter and the nights longer, but Koike decided to shift his mind on deciding what he would have for dinner. Instead of staying longer at home he would go out after giving Akumu his supper. Hearing the large canine enjoying his supper Koike would leave his home. Deciding to head to the Hon compound, Koike wondered on the way how he should see the recent developments.
He was now more or less free but was aware of his duties. Unlike in the past, where he preferred to work alone, he now had people that he considered useful and valuable. Thinking more about it, Koike wasn't sure if that was a real good phrasing of how he felt about it. A faint smile crossed his lips as he couldn't lay the correct words in mind on how he felt. Entering the Hon compound it didn't take much effort to find the place where he would spend the evening.
The place he would enter was one where the air was filled with laughter, song and the smell of drink and food. At long tables were people who enjoyed both their food, talked with each other and various spots where groups of people would join in singing. It seemed chaotic, but also had a sense of unity. An atmosphere where he felt at peace even if it would seem anything but peaceful.
Finding a place where he could sit down Koike just took in his surrounding. It wasn't often that he visited places like these, but seeing all that had happened it seemed a nice variation of eating at home. Alone.
"Mind if I sit here?" An elder man asked.
Koike would throw a look over his shoulder at the man and shook his head. "Not at all," was his answer. As the man sat Koike considered something. "I am certain you could use a drink, my treat."
On which the old man flashed a smile as he nodded. As a waiter approached Koike, the young man would order two drinks and some food. He felt his stomach rumbling - a sound that was luckily overwhelmed by his surrounding - as he turned to throw a sideways glance at the old man. It didn't take too long for them to receive their drinks. The crimson coloured liquor in their mugs revealing that it had to be the renowned drink of the Tokuwaga clan.
"Many thanks, White Blade," the old man said as he would raise his mug, nodding towards Koike. The Hon would raise his own mug, but he wouldn't answer back. Not right away. First taking a sip of his drink he would place the mug back on the table. He wasn't an unknown figure among his people and the other Chonobi clans, but it wasn't common that somebody spoke his title like that.
"Forgive me. Had a long day behind me. My name is Jin. Jin Cho and it is good that I met you here," the old man continued on a friendly tone. Taking a sip of his drink, again, he would continue as Koike remained silent. "I was hoping I could hire you for a few hours to tutor a student of mine in swordsmanship."
It wasn't a rare or strange sight of a Cho or Sarutobi in the Hon compound. But the request was certainly anything but what he had anticipated. Lightly flummoxed about the request, Koike considered it. "I might be interested, but how much does it pay?"
The question was met with a chuckle as the old man would bring up a small, brown bag. The clear sound of its content made it clear that it was filled with coins. "I suppose this should suffice for a few hours of training? Just for now, at least. If you desire more, then I would love to hear so."
The dark brown eyes of Koike briefly travelled his gaze to the bag. Taking another sip of his drink, he wondered if this was going to happen more often. The idea to teach somebody in how to wield a sword wasn't an idea that had ever crossed his mind. Not for payment or somebody he wasn't familiar with. Then again, he didn't consider himself capable of being a good tutor in anything really.
"I suppose that I am interested," Koike said as he would lift the small bag. It is weight heavy. Opening it he would check the coins briefly, only confident that it wasn't a fraud. "I will be tomorrow in the compound. Near the main hall," Koike stated to the man, explaining where the man's student could find him. The old man would nod, mumble thanks and leave after emptying his drink.
Raising his own drink Koike glanced at the bag. Wanting to ask something he looked at his side, but the old man wasn't there anymore. Glancing around, trying to catch a glimpse of the Cho, he couldn't see this Jin Cho anymore. Picking the small bag up, he heard somebody apologising behind him. A plate was placed in front of him. On the plate, Koike saw a piece of roasted meat, with a light brown sauce. Likely pepper sauce, judging from the smell Koike could get from it. There were also some baked potatoes and vegetables on the plate. Eager to dig in, Koike would grab the fork and knife - that were delivered with the plate, filled with food.
Cutting a piece of the meat Koike raised the fork up to his lips, but before he could enjoy and appreciate the flavoured meat he would hear another voice. This one being more soft, feminine, and younger.
"You wouldn't mind me sitting here, would you?"
Glancing at the side Koike almost forgot that he was holding a fork for a moment. Next to him a young woman, around his age, would sit down. "Well, I would say that I mind, but you already sat down," Koike tried to make it sound as if he was offended, which wasn't likely going to work as a smile crossed his lips.
"Of course, it seems that you don't smell of sweat and horse. Can only say that I am approving that you're taking care of how you smell," the young woman stated. Eyeing Koike quickly the young woman frowned slightly. "So, what are you doing here?"
Once more he found himself unable to even start his dinner. The question was so out of place that he wasn't certain if this was even real. The person next to him was nobody else but Hakura Tamiyo. Not a spectacular renowned person, but somebody who he had a history with. "Trying to enjoy my dinner. Which is proving to be quite difficult so far! Question is, what are you doing here?" He asked, attempting afterwards once more to take a bite of his meal.
"Oh, so this place is only reserved for certain kind of people? And here I thought the Hons were quite open to feast and make merry with whoever is capable and up for it," Hakura answered back, "Besides, I am enjoying the atmosphere here. Trying to taste a bit of... culture, so to say."
Just nodding as he chewed on a bite, Koike still wasn't sure what was more confusing. The fact that out of all people Hakura was in a place such as a tavern in the Hon compound or the fact that he wasn't able to properly start his meal. "A taste of culture?"
The amused question of Koike was met with Haruka gesturing briefly around them. "Well, yes. If the Hons are one of the most dominant clans in the empire then why not study them further?" The young woman replied. Koike just shook his head and chuckled softly. "But haven't seen you here before. Or were you on a secret mission?~"
For a moment Koike considered how he should answer the question. Chewing on another bite he would answer once he had cleared his mouth. "Came back from Amegakure. A mission, aye, but nothing too secretive. Or interesting, I fear," he said while shoving his mug slightly in her direction. The gesture was accepted as Hakura grabbed the mug and raised it slightly up.
"Amegakure? The city of eternal rain. Can't say that I envy you. Never liked it when it was raining, so the idea of going to a place where it is almost non-stop raining sounds so... gloomy."
Taking another bite of his food Koike just nodded. He hadn't been too fond of the constant rain pour, but Amegakure had its own charms. Shoving the plate of food between them he frowned before speaking up. "And have you been enjoying much pleasant weather for which the imperial capital is known for then?"
Scoffing Haruka leant a bit closer to Koike. "Not really. There was often a clear day, but the cold temperature is anything but inviting to head outside. That and I don't have much free time during the day for my own desires."
"But enough time to head out to come to this place?" Koike asked, unable to hide his amusement. The question was met with Haruka frowning while she took the fork from his hand.
"Of course. Besides, most of the books that are written by Hons are in Chonobi. And while there are interesting works written by none-Chonobi on the culture of the clans, it is just an outside point of view. Am interested in learning more than just what the majority can learn."
"And a tavern is thus the place to study my kin and clansmen?"
The question earned him a gentle nudge as Haruka chewed on a bite. She threw a look around, clearing her mouth before answering back. "Have any better suggestion?"
Considering a few options he wasn't sure what was a better alternative. Knowing all too well that his clan and people weren't too open to sharing everything of their culture with just any outsider Koike couldn't come up with a valid answer or advice. Noticing something, he couldn't hide his confusion for a moment. "Seems that you're already aware of some details, huh?" The comment aimed at the sash. Haruka briefly glanced down at her waist and then chuckled as she would drove the fork into a potato.
"You could say that. I have managed to decrypt some of the traditions and manners. For a renowned warrior cult, the idea of a something as this... Dance of Sashes is quite... cute." Finishing her sentence the young woman would bring the fork up towards Koike's lips, waiting for him to take the bite. Wavering for a moment the young man leant in closer to take the bite.
"Though wish that I could learn Chonobi one day. Am already making some advancements on Yakimara," Hakura continued on. Sharing his meal and even ordering more drinks the two would continue to talk. Not paying attention to their surroundings, nobody else seemed to be willing to disturb the two either.
Eventually, Koike realised something. He had to get up early tomorrow. Getting up, a soft laugh escaped his lips. The world seemed more colourful, more pleasing and less grim. Knowing it was likely due to the amount of drinks that he had shared with Haruka, he was trying to say something.
"Think you... had a bit... too much, hahaha!"
Chuckling as he was aware that he had, he reached out a hand towards Haruka. At first, the two stumbled but managed to reach the door without many problems or falling on the ground. Letting her lean against him for support Koike felt a bit sorry that they couldn't remain longer. Drink and talk a bit more.
The cold of the night would await them, causing Haruka to lean more against Koike. "You know, I should head home myself. I forgot something, sorry."
Detecting a strange tone in her voice, Koike frowned. Was it because of something he had said or that he had wrapped an arm around her waist. "It is a bit late to walk alone. Besides," he couldn't help but chuckle - almost laughing out loud, "Didn't we agree that heroes are the weirdest figures. Doing the most cliché of things and yet being liked?"
A smile dawned on Haruka's thin lips as she frowned back at Koike. "Such as that they always peek? I mean, give me one... no, four names of heroes that didn't peek when some damsel undresses near them."
Unable to contain a laugh, Koike quickly suppressed it as they kept walking through the street. "I fear that I can't, sorry." His answer resulted in Haruka releasing a chuckle. "So, how is she?"
Her question caused Koike to frown and shake his head. "She passed away, in Amegakure." The answer was said with a calm tone, which even surprised him. He didn't want to come over as if he didn't care. But what was he supposed to feel? Regret? Sorrow? "An accident happened."
Instantly Haruka lowered her eyes as her lips parted, but she was too flummoxed to say anything back. Taking a moment she managed to finally speak up again. "I am sorry for your loss."
"It is okay. Don't think she would have liked to be chained to a marriage with a peek," Koike replied with a friendly tone in his voice.
Frowning at first, Haruka would release a soft and short laugh. "Yeah, a peek. A hero, at least, carries the damsel in distress home. Saving her from blisters and sore feet."
Remaining silent for a moment, Koike would halt. Causing Haruka to turn her head, but as her eyes widened she would be lifted up. Not as the romantic ideal of being held up, but noticing that she was literally lifted over Koike's right shoulder.
"W-What are you doing?!"
"Escorting you, my lady."
"Hahahaha, you got to be kidding!"
"The question remains if I will be a hero or not."
Neji Uchiha
Konohagakure Genin
Neji listened to the orders from Aiko sensei, he heard the subtle shot that she took at him, but Neji didn't care. There was no way he was going to leave that woman to defend herself against those thugs. Neji may have not followed orders directly as Aiko wanted them to be followed but he thought he did the right thing in helping that woman. Neji then clicked on his communicator to try and get in contact with Hiraku Hyuuga. "Hiraku this is Neji Uchiha Aiko sensei has assigned me to you. Where do you need me to go and what do you need me to do?" For the time being Neji would stay in this spot in their original meeting place until Hiraku contacted him with where he was supposed to meet them.
Yumeji Hojo,
Chuunin and Vanguard member,
Near the coast, patrol duty.
Yumeji wasn't completely content with how the talk had finished. And not with the fact that the orders were vague. But instead of pointing that out to Mizuchi the teen decided to remain silent. With the option giving that they could hold a hill, which wasn't helping them to do their objective in any case, or venturing out Yumeji would round up a small group. The reputation with her acquired nickname and informal title had its perks, after all.
With the small group venturing out Yumeji was glad that they ventured out on a clear day. It wasn't very warm and the sky wasn't completely empty of gloomy, dark clouds. But it was better than scouting in the dark of the evening. Venturing towards the coast, leaving the safety of the hill and sight of where Mizuchi held position Yumeji wondered briefly about a few things.
Whatever or whoever was troubling the land and its population, Yumeji wasn't sure if this military campaign would suffice. The idea that they would restore peace was one thing, but who would maintain it? Would the land be restored to the formal control of the Republic? Would it be more independent or would the Lightning country take it? Aware that the questions and thoughts required answers that Yumeji could only guess and imagine didn't stop her from thinking about it. The consequences of a diplomatic incident could lead to trouble. A transgression or a justification for a conflict. And considering the current diplomatic ties and relations, that she was aware of, a minor conflict could grow into a large one.
Pushing the thought of a second great war into the back of her mind, as it wasn't much of an attractive thought anyways, Yumeji noticed something strange. Closing in the distance with the beach there was some rubble that they could spot.
For a moment the small group wasn't sure what to do, but Yumeji would take charge of the situation.
"Stay on guard. Let's see what it is," the chuunin ordered. The soldiers nodded or mumbled a soft 'aye' as a response.
Approaching the rubble on the beach Yumeji noticed that most of it were wood. There was also some rope and other material. Yet everything seemed out of place.
"Ma'am!"
The shout of a soldier caused Yumeji to turn on her heels. Seeing a few of the soldiers gathering at a place the chuunin would join them with the rest of the group.
"The Red Devil..."
"Do you... think she is alive?"
A soldier turned the woman with red hair on her back. Her face was pale, but there was no large wound or any indication that she was dead. The man who turned her gently on her back checked for a pulse.
"She is still alive. Feel a faint pulse, but am certain she is still alive. Probably just knocked cold," the man reported.
"Good. Scout a bit around for any other survivors. We will soon head back before we will travel with the sky becoming darker."
With her order being followed Yumeji knelt near the unconscious woman. She wasn't sure if this woman was the renowned Red Devil, but hopefully, they would be able to learn what had happened once she would wake up and be treated at the camp. After ten minutes of looking around and searching, they managed to find five more unconscious men and women. Heading back to the hill where Mizuchi would be holding position Yumeji threw one glance over her shoulder as they went back. Something wasn't right...
Nishi Hirashima,
ANBU member,
Kirigakure, at the eastern part of the city.
Today nothing seemed too much off. Regardless of the tension that was present ever since the various recent events, the people continued with their lives. They had to, after all, because not working would mean no income. And no income meant trouble. Either unable to pay the taxes or food. Thus more forced than willing, most would continue to head to their work or establishments. Facing the new day with the hope that they wouldn't be anywhere near an escalation of any sort.
Wondering what change the revolution had really brought for the commoners, Nishi would walk down the street. Dressed as a commoner, just on her way to work or minding her own business, Nishi pondered on what made the Republic better than the monarchy the Water country was before the revolution. It seemed that there was a trend that the time of the kages was over. First in the Akinian Empire and now in the Republic. Would the other nations who had a kage follow? At least, those who mattered as Nishi didn't count the small Akinian provinces who were having a 'kage' appointed by the imperial ruler.
Not that she was bothered or worried about it, but it was an interesting development. There was a certain allure of having some appointed military dictator chosen by the people, but also requiring the 'blessing' or approval of the reigning daimyo to be formally settled as the kage.
Raising her right hand to scratch her neck Nishi noticed that small the market, where she had a meeting, was already set up. Something she hadn't expected due to the cold and tension. Factors that likely made nobody eager to head outside.
Wandering for a bit around the market there wasn't much that truly interested her. But that wasn't the point of being there. Finding the spot, a bench near the fruit stall, Nishi would take her place. Glad about her garb, that provided protection against the cold, Nishi threw a look around. Due to it being morning there weren't many visitors to the small local market. Most who did arrive seem to be certain of what they wanted or patrons who came often, evident by the way how some interacted.
"You're on time."
Turning her head the disguised ANBU operative noticed an elderly woman sitting beside to her. The old woman had trembling hands and used a cane and judging by her clothing wasn't a member of the most well-doing class of society.
"Mhm."
"Here dear," the woman would pull out a piece of bread, holding it up to Nishi, "Hope it does taste good."
Taking the bread, Nishi briefly locked her eyes on the woman next to her. Slowly nodding, a smile would dawn on Nishi's lips.
"Thanks, I am sure it will. Take care," she replied with a sweet tone before getting up. Without looking back or around her the ANBU operative would walk away.
Breaking the bread Nishi's eyes narrowed. She did it carefully to not rip the message inside the piece of bread apart. Spotting a white dot among the bread Nishi instantly started to slowly and carefully carve it out. Pulling a short note out of the piece of bread she would unroll it. As expected it was coded, but nothing rare or unknown to Nishi. Taking a moment to decipher what the message was the woman whistled softly.
"I suppose it was going to happen sooner or later. Very well then," the woman mumbled to herself, throwing the note into the fire in front of her.
"Relaxing is no luxury we can afford anymore."
A collab made by Chromehound and Gerontis,
Summary :
As the day is starting, Hayate is already working on various papers and ideas for the campaign on which the Guardians will be sent on. Koike visits the office of the captain-commander of the Guardians as the two hold a small meeting, in which various plans and decisions are made.
[spoili]
Sitting in his office, Hayate stared at the map he had recently had framed there. It was a beautiful map, detailing much of the known world. It wasn't the beauty of it that held Hayate's attention however. His eyes remained locked on one particular point, wondering...
Keeping his arms folded across his chest, the young Hyuzu sighed.
Approaching the door that would lead to the office of the captain-commander, Koike held various documents under his left arm. Finding himself in a pretty good mood he would arrive in front of the door. Knocking a few times against the door before opening it Koike would salute to Hayate, placing his right fist against his chest. "Reporting in, captain-commander, sir," Koike spoke up. Closing the door behind him, his eyes caught sight of the map. "Hope that I am not bothering, but have the required documents and information that were requested."
Hearing the knock, Hayate turned back towards the door and waited for Koike to enter. Returning the salute, Hayate sighed once more. "Koike... how many times do I have to tell you that you can just call me Hayate?" Raising an eyebrow, there was a hint of amusement in his tone. "And no, lieutenant, you are not bothering. Please, have a seat."
A grin appeared on the features of the Hon as he just nodded, instead of discussing back. Approaching the desk of Hayate, Koike threw another look at the map. Taking a seat, he would quickly look through the papers as he began to speak up. "Good! Was in need to bother you anyways. I have some information on the current situation on the eastern continent. Here," he would pull out a sheet of paper and place it on the desk. "Both the Republic as the Lightning country has arrived with a host to prepare the campaign. Their numbers are in total at eight thousand troops. If we have to believe the messages that last came in, they will try to secure a large portion of the coast so that we can embark our troops, supplies and mounts without fearing that there will be any hostile contact." Pausing Koike looked through more of the papers.
"Aha, here," placing another sheet of paper Koike continued on, "Currently the Lord Commander will assign around ten thousand of the Third Division under your command to participate in this campaign. To aid you, there is the known number of two hundred Tiger Claws under the command of Saki Yamanaka that will join. Then our humble group of Guardians that will go as well." Waiting on the response of the Hyuzu, Koike lifted his gaze up.
Chuckling quietly as Koike first spoke, Hayate shook his head and took a look at the papers he presented. Chewing on his lip slowly as he looked through the reports, he took a moment before looking back up. "It is comforting to know that we will have good people with us." Glancing back up at the map, Hayate studied it carefully. "Should everything go smoothly and we encounter no hostile contacts upon embarking, I shall take it as a bit of a blessing. However, I think it would be wise for us to consider the worst scenario and prepare accordingly."
Ten thousand troops, not counting the specialist factions of the Tiger Claws and the Guardians, there would be many lives resting on his shoulders. Looking back at Koike, Hayate placed his hands on the table in front of him. "So what do you think, Koike?"
"That we shouldn't rely too much on the 'allied forces'," Koike said with a serious voice. His calm expression shifted a little, reflecting already that he wasn't completely content with the situation that was laid out in front of them. "We're venturing out with numbers that are bigger than the other countries. While I get the meaning behind the empire participating, I am not fond of travelling so far from home. Or seeing good men and women bleed on some distant shore. Doesn't seem right, but am certain that we will get the job done." His gaze lowered to the map for a moment.
"Other than that? I expect everything to go wrong. Already got some bad news," pulling out a sheet Koike would place it on the table and paused for a moment. "The Thirteenth brigade was assigned to participate in this campaign. Their colonel, however, is gone. Illness, four days ago. Seeing what the brigade is composed out, the Lord commander suggested that I could help to command the brigade. Seeing that it will be tough to send another person that is already assigned on to join the campaign and being able to speak both Chonobi as knowing how... well, some of my kin are."
Finding himself in agreement with the Hon, Hayate nodded. It would be wise not to trust the 'allied forces' at least not completely. Hayate had not worked with them before, he did not know enough to place his trust in them. Not that he would necessarily place any trust in either nation anyways...
Lost in thought, he almost missed what Koike was saying. His eyes widening, Hayate looked up at his friend and tilted his head to the side. "So I will have neither yourself or Saki with me, eh?" Glancing down, he let out a soft sigh. It really did keep getting worse and worse.
Koike scoffed softly, "Of course, I will be around to kick your shins and grumble on everything. I am still part of the Guardians from what I understand. From time to time, I will be directing your orders to the thirteenth brigade. But if you need me with the Guardians or keeping sure that you won't get bruised," the young man grinned once more, "Then I suppose that I can still make sure that you get back. That's after all that I need to do seeing that I have nobody else to suffice as a rival," he joked afterwards. "But at least most other reports are showing good news. Soon enough we will be going on our way. It is only the question if you have any specific instructions on how you want to organise the way how we will operate once we are on the eastern continent."
Chuckling, Hayate smiled. "Well we can't have that happen now can we?" Leaning back in his chair, the young Hyuzu scratched his chin. "I have been... researching several tactics and strategies that I think may be useful here." Realising too late how his words belied his inexperience, Hayate looked away from Koike and over to the map. "It would be wise, I feel, for us to prepare and train as much as possible before mobilising so that when we move out we can operate as one unit. The Guardians I trust in their training and their ability to work as a cohesive unit. The others, I have no experience with them... If I am to lead them I would like to get to know them beforehand."
"Aye, believe we can't," he answered. Listening to Hayate, Koike nodded as he agreed. "I can request the usual strategies that the other brigades that are enlisted in this campaign to report it to us. Doubt it will be anything too outlandish or something we can't incorporate," the young man said, finding himself becoming quite eager of the prospect of planning it all. While the journey to the east wasn't still something he was comfortable with, the idea of being busy with such matters as these was of his interest. "I will also start to increase the drills and training for the unit, though. Don't want any belly-aching from anybody. This is going to be the first time, after all, that we're going as one unit. If that would be accepted, of course."
Nodding, Hayate turned back to Koike. "Absolutely. I trust your experience on this Koike." Leaning forwards, he continued. "We have been a little more relaxed in the past. Perhaps it is because we never really thought something like this would happen, or perhaps it is because we didn't know what was at stake. Either way, we can't afford to be relaxed any longer."
Glancing at the papers on his desk once more, Hayate shook his head and sighed softly. "I would like to gather Saki, yourself and any of the other commanding officers. The Empress and her delegates have a War Council, perhaps it is time we formed our own. We will need to be on the same page for this and I think it would be wise for us to all meet before gathering at the battle front. What are your thoughts?"
He was certain that Hayate was aware of what his opinion was. If anything, he wouldn't like anything more than to be certain that every member of the Guardian unit was constantly drilled and trained. Even if it wouldn't be all too great for their morale, but upon hearing the words that they couldn't afford to relax anymore a smile crossed Koike's lips. "Aye, agreed," he said. Upon hearing that Hayate wanted to form a council of their own, Koike frowned for a second. He understood the reasons behind it, but the idea wasn't what he had anticipated. "I can understand the reasons and can't really disagree with you. The only question is if you want to have the colonels of each participating brigade to be present or those who will be lower of rank as well?"
Pondering for a moment, Hayate chewed the inside of his cheek. "I believe it would only be necessary to have the colonels present. They can distribute the information and plans to their men however they choose. The more people we start trying to pull in, the more convoluted we risk everything becoming."
"Can't disagree with that," Koike stated in a softer tone. "I can arrange that everybody will be aware and present. Just state the time and place and leave the rest to me," he would further add. "While I agree that we can't afford to relax, think that you should arrange certainly... matters." Making the emphasis, Koike was confident that he wouldn't need to state what he meant. "Cause I fear that there will be more on your plate than is even on my own."
Hayate nodded slowly in appreciation as Koike agreed to assist with getting everyone together. He would need to find an appropriate place to gather everyone, but at least now it was one weight off his shoulders. Sighing inwardly as Koike continued, Hayate's mind travelled to the thing he had been trying not to focus on.
Kiyomi...
The thought of travelling to some far off land to fight a war did not bother him nearly as much as the thought of leaving her behind. The thought that he might not come back... Shaking the thought from his mind, Hayate nodded again. "If there is time..." Turning, the Hyuzu sighed, a slight smile coming to his lips. "Whoever thought we'd be where we are now, hmm?"
"Time is a rare luxury, but just leave some matters to me. I will take care of them, Hayate," Koike said with a confident tone. The question was met with a light scoff from the young man, who crossed his arms out front of his chest. "I rarely think of such matters. Never understood why some people do that. But I suppose," the amused tone making it clear that he was trying to keep the mood light, "That I wouldn't be certain if I would believe anybody if they said that I would be involved in... what we are all involved in now. Sometimes it seems that the past was so," a second passed as Koike searched for the correct word.
"Simple, I guess. Not entirely what I want to describe it, but guess that we just need to push on and see where we end." Thinking about it, he wasn't certain if he wanted to spend time and effort on wondering where they would end. "But if anything, I would suggest you should take it easy this evening. I know a great place where one can eat and drink. That is if you wouldn't mind the atmosphere being a bit... loud, but in a pleasant way."
Simple was the perfect word for it. Chuckling, Hayate nodded. "Sometimes it's tempting to want those simple times back... But you're right. That's not really a luxury that we can afford." Smiling towards his friend, Hayate leant back in his chair. Taking it easy was not something he had been able to do for quite some time. Despite everything else, the prospect seemed quite tempting. "Where did you have in mind?"
"Don't worry about it. For supper I will come back to pick you up," was all that Koike answered back on the question. "Just don't overwork yourself or get you involved in too many troubles. Suppose that I should get to work on doing some of what we discussed so that we won't be doing everything at the last moment." Rising up from his seat Koike would hook his right thumb behind his belt. "Is there anything you would like me to do or prepare in the meanwhile?"
Grumbling as Koike provided his incredibly vague answer, Hayate folded his arms across his chest. "For the meantime no, I think you have also earned yourself a bit of a rest. There will be more than enough to prepare in the coming days. I will put together some plans that can be discussed when we all meet." Closing his eyes, Hayate let out a slow breath. "Thank you Koike. Truly."
He chuckled as Hayate stated he had earned a bit of rest himself. "I will not say no to that. But I can take a rest once I am done with arranging and finishing some work," the young man would raise his right hand, clenched a fist, to his chest to form a salute. "You're welcome, captain-commander, sir." The Hon would say with a growing grin on his lips. Nodding towards Hayate, Koike would turn around to exit the office. Feeling in the mood to whistle.
Returning the salute, Hayate would wait until Koike left the room before sitting back in his chair, turning to face the map once again. A low chuckle could be heard as the boy shook his head. These were interesting times indeed...
"Aha, a hammer grip."
A collab made by Oetje and Gerontis.
Summary :
Meilin and Koike meet up as the latter will train her in swordsmanship. Teaching her something about how to grip a sword, stances and various matters the training ends with Meilin suggesting an evening of fun to Koike.
[spoili]
Walking through the compound Meilin didn't feel out of place. She could hear here and there Chonobi being spoken by various people. Judging by the difference that existed between the three clans on how various words were spoken she could hear various accents that were Sarutobi or Cho of origin. But she hadn't come to the Hon compound just for a brisk walk and being interested in the people. The old man had spoken of the White Blade, a name that was familiar with Meilin. While she doubted it would work, there was little that she could think off to argue against trying it out. At first, Meilin decided to just walk around. There was much to see, hear and experience in the compound of the Hon clan. Approaching the small market, she could see various stands that were being set up. Nearby establishments that belonged to smiths and other artisans were also starting to go open for business. Already there was a friendly atmosphere being present, driving away the cold even as Meilin saw and heard people talking in a joyful tone to one another. It brought a small smile on her lips as she wondered if she just couldn't linger on longer, but decided against it. Heading towards a nearby complex Meilin noticed that the door was slightly open. Slowly raising her hand she would push the door further open as she was greeted by warmth. There was already a fire in the pit, located in the centre of the room, being lit. Providing both warmth and somewhat light with the absence of the sun's light this early in the morning.
A rasping sound moved through the room. It was soft as it kept on going, in an ongoing rhythm. Due to the sun yet being low on the horizon there wasn't much light shining through the windows to be reflected in the steel. Focusing on sharpening the sword through the use of the grindstone Koike hummed something softly. Stopping for a moment the young man raised the weapon. There was the temptation to run his thumb down the edge, but he was convinced that it was razor sharp. Rising up he would walk towards a nearby workbench, starting to clean the sword. Like before he took the time as well focused on his task as if it was some sort of ritual. Just as he worked with the grindstone to sharpen the blade Koike took his time to clean the blade.
Walking into the hall Meilin could hear a rasping sound moving through the air. As she noticed a young man she wavered for a moment. Placing her hands on her back it was the doubt if this was the person she was supposed to meet. That old man hadn't said any specific time, so perhaps she was either too late or early? Deciding that she had nothing to lose anyways, Meilin cleared her throat softly before speaking up.
"Excuse me, sir, I am looking here for," she paused for a moment as she wasn't sure how to describe the word, "Tutor, regarding swordsmanship."
Hearing somebody speak up Koike ceased his work for a moment as he threw a look over his shoulder. Eyeing the other for a moment, he would reply back. "I assume that you're then the pupil who I was paid to mentor for today then," sheathing the sword in the scabbard Koike would turn around. Resting his left hand on the handle of his sword he hadn't expected somebody that was close to his age. If anything a younger teen or child that was requiring some training. But he had already accepted the money and what difference would it make anyways? "How about we first start with a small introduction and then will start with the basics?" He suggested.
As the young man turned Meilin caught herself staring. It was something she couldn't explain. The scars that 'decorated' his facial features made it difficult to gauge his age as they seemed horrible and yet interesting. What was the saying again? Behind every scar was a story to tell? Though she couldn't find herself attracted to experience the same wounds he had suffered, most likely. Flashing a friendly smile Meilin nodded slowly.
"I would like that, yes," she said, raising her right hand to brush aside a few strands of hair, "Any place you would consider proper... sir?"
A ghost of a smile dawned on Koike's lips as she called him sir, which he couldn't explain why it amused him, appeared. "Over there we can sit down and talk for a bit. I shall try not to bore you too much, but I like to know a bit about who I am going to teach before doing so." gesturing to the direction she came from Koike wondered how this would go. He didn't consider himself at all experienced in teaching or mentoring somebody. It was different when training with Katsu or other people. That wasn't really teaching anything, but just training with people who already had mastered the basics. As they sat down Koike scratched his chin for a second, feeling the stubbles that were perhaps a sign that he should shave sooner or later. "Just tell me in short who you are and what kind of swords lessons you're interested in."
Turning around Meilin would head over to the place where they could sit down. Now that they were closer she tried to estimate his age a bit better. He didn't seem that old as there was a lack of wrinkles and other features that would make her consider him much older. For now, she considered him twenty years or older, but not older than twenty-five.
"Meilin Cho," she began, an apologising smile appearing on her lips as she leant a bit back, "Genin of Team 7. Can't really answer the question, though. I know some basics of swordsmanship, but don't know what would particularly work for somebody like me."
Koike nodded slowly as he took in the information. Was she a Cho? Not that he was much in favour of approving a member of a clan higher than another. At least, he tried not to do such a thing, but it was certainly a plus. Deciding to thus switch to Chonobi, Koike spoke again. "Rank isn't much of a problem. If you know the basics, we will just go through them quickly just to give me an idea of what you know already and if I can help to improve that," he explained that to her, forgetting for a moment to introduce himself. "My name is Koike Hon. Am the specialised jounin of Team 6. Not far apart in numbers, eh?" He tried to joke, but felt that wasn't really funny, causing him to continue talking. "So, how much experience do you have with sword fighting?"
The teen caught herself once more staring at him. This time she had leant forward, her feet shuffling a bit forward. Though the scars gave a rough impression, the dark brown eyes had something soft to them. It made her wonder more about this young man, slightly tilting her head to the left. She remembered the name from somewhere but was unable to pinpoint from where.
"Heh, yeah," Meilin answered, talking in Chonobi as well, as a chuckle escaped her, "And I can't say that I have much experience. Some training, but don't think that I can count that as experience. Right?"
"No, but that is okay. I already have set apart two blunt blades that we will use for the first part of the training. The first part we will work on how to hold a sword and your stance. Sounds really dull," he began, realising that he always had found that a dull part when he was younger, "But there are several subtle tricks and manners on how to wield a sword that can make a difference on how you wield it. Not to mention that if you get used to a certain stance then you can create more options on how you fight, so to say. Any questions before we start?"
He had a pleasant voice. She didn't know why she realised that, but she liked to listen to him, just talking. Nodding as she understood that the 'dull' part had to go first Meilin had no objections to that.
"Where did you learn how to fight with a sword?" She asked, genuinely interested in learning more.
"Magnhild," Koike answered. He had expected that he wouldn't feel comfortable to talk about it, but the answer had come without any second of delay. "It is kind of a family tradition for me, long story," he said in a rather dismissive manner. "And why do you want to learn how to wield a sword?"
"Magnhild," Meilin repeated slowly. Then it dawned upon her who she was dealing with. For a moment she wasn't sure if she was being fooled. But if she did the 'math' correctly, she was now sitting in front of the current White Blade of the Hon clan.
"Oh, oh, well," she stammered for a moment, another apologizing smile flowing over her lips as she rubbed her neck, "I just happened to be interested in becoming better. What was the saying again? The sword is the queen of all weapons, correct?"
"Aye, I believe that is what some do say about swords," Koike said in return. Getting up slowly, he beckoned her to follow him. "I will teach you some grips at first," he would already explain as he would guide her outside the building. The cold was ready to greet them, but they wouldn't remain for too long into the cold. Nearby was a hall where often others trained, but it seemed that there wasn't anybody making use of it for now. There he had already prepared everything for today's training. On a box were two blunt steel swords as well in the training circle, in the middle of the dark hall, was a training dummy standing.
"Can you show me your grip and stance?" Koike asked as he would pick up the blunt swords and offer her one.
Following him, she used the moment to eye him again. Her mind wandered if he had more scars underneath those clothing. A faint blush would appear for a moment on her cheeks as she turned her eyes down, scratching her neck at the same time. Entering another hall Meilin's eyes had to adjust to the dark, but luckily there were was some light coming in. It wasn't also very warm, which caused her to rub her left shoulder.
"Yes, of course," she answered, perhaps a bit too eager. Taking the sword she would hold it firmly while taking the basic stance she had been trained with.
"Like this, this good, sir?"
"You're under no obligation to call me sir, Meilin. Please just say Koike," he replied. While he was aware that she did it to be formal and respectful, he didn't consider himself as some superior or elder that demanded respect with a higher social standing or age nor experience. "Aha, a hammer grip," he mumbled as he rested his own blunted sword against his shoulder, "And a firm stance, which isn't bad no. There aren't many stances or grips that are in definition wrong or good. It is what you feel comfortable with and can fight efficiently with," he explained to her. Standing next to her, he would hold his sword up to show her the grip she was using.
"You hold it as if the weapon is a hammer. Which is good for low guards as well cutting at a short distance," the young man explained as he would perform two quick successive manoeuvres, to make it easy to visualise what he meant. "But the question is if you do enjoy fighting with strength or prefer a more agile approach?"
A hammer grip? Paying close attention Meilin held her breath as he stood close to her for a moment, showing her the grip as well two quick manoeuvres. As he was done performing them she remained frozen, her eyes locked on his.
"Hm? I am not really sure, sorry sir--- Koike," the teen said, feeling frustrated for a moment at her own stammering, "I suppose that strength isn't really my forte at the moment."
"That's okay. This is what they call a 'handshake' grip. When you don't want to block attacks full strength and want to adopt a flexible as agile fighting style, this is one that I can advise you. See?"
He would show her the grip as it would appear he was giving a handshake, but his grip being much looser than the 'hammer' grip.
Nodding she tried to emulate the same. It felt weird, though. In her experience and way how she had seen others fight the idea of having a loose kind of grip seemed dangerous. Wouldn't it be easier for another to slam her blade out of her hands or unable her to block or parry incoming strikes?
"Okay, this feels weird. How do I parry or block attacks when my grip is this... loose?" She asked, trying to form the same grip, but not certain if she was doing it correctly.
Noticing her grip, Koike would place his own blunt sword down for a moment. "Here," he said as he would use his own hands to help her to form the grip, while further explaining. "The principle is that you use your thumb, index and middle finger to direct the blade while the rest is loosely curled around the handle. Relax your wrist," he said as he would slide one hand to put it on her wrist. "If you're all tensed up then you will experience it as if your own body will disagree with your movements. See it as a form of dancing instead of fighting, at least, for today."
Staring at her right hand as his own, warm, soft hands would direct her fingers to form the grip Meilin remained silent. A soft, "Oh," escaped the teen. The temptation to 'screw' up the grip so that he would keep his hands on hers was great.
"Okay," she said, thinking of something. "So that means that you're more of a dancing teacher than anything else today?" The teen tried to joke.
The idea of him teaching others to dance was quite amusing as he couldn't resist chuckling about it. "I suppose that is one way to look at it, yes. But okay, let's just start with the basic swings." Picking up his own training sword and taking a few steps away to stand at her right he would perform a rather basic slash forward, from the left. "Just try for now to get the feeling right, using your wrist and the 'handshake' to direct the blade."
Stepping to the left as his blade was raised to meet that of Meilin. As the blunt weapons met and would slide against each other, Koike would move his wrist to force her blade to slide away from him. Using his free hand he would pat her on the shoulder. Standing still, Koike would speak up as he lowered his blade and pulled his left hand back. "That is the trick. You don't always parry to just get yourself safe. Sometimes when you spot the chance, you can try to create an opening as I just did. It will take the practice of the basics movement that I taught you today. Be careful, however," the young man continued, "Cause while it might work, attempt this only when you have practised it well enough and being certain that you can pull it off by an opponent."
Standing still Meilin looked sideways at Koike. Understanding the principle there was a question that drove up. "But what do I need to do to test out if I can or can't perform such manoeuvres on my opponent?" the teen asked, turning to Koike.
Thinking for a second Koike would rest the blade on his right shoulder as he gave a reply back. "There is the easy way of just what you're opponent is. I doubt that you will lose from a kid that barely can lift a blade. But somebody that eyes nervous and his stance informing you that he isn't properly educated nor experienced in wielding a weapon can be a positive signal. Though that is just on how good you can read people and seeing that most opponents will not be people you're super close with, I can't recommend that," he told her, "What I often try is to not go fully on the offensive. Try a few jabs, stabs or slashes. Depending on how well they react I adjust my own fighting style."
"Got it. Thanks," Meilin replied as she would flash a smile. "Hmm, what about wielding my sword with two hands? Is it that much different than wielding it with one hand?" She decided to ask.
Koike briefly pondered. "Depending on your stance and preferred fighting style, but in most cases, aye. It does." Was the answer. Gripping the practice blade with both hands, Koike would shift his stance. "This is called the hanging guard stance. As you see, the sword isn't held up pointed at the target as the most basic stance. Otherwise known as the middle guard. While it doesn't look great, there are many ways to which I can react to different attacks in this manner." Moving the blade as he explained it further, Koike would take a step back to avoid that he would accidently hit her.
"Just try a basic hack and I will show you how flexible this stance can work out."
The stance looked mixed. The fact that the blade wasn't pointed at her made her feel more secure, but knowing that looks could deceive Meilin didn't want to assume it wasn't useful. Besides, why would he teach her something not useful? He seemed to be pretty serious about this all.
"Okay," she said before assuming the basic stance. Raising her blade slightly Meilin would attempt a straightforward attack.
A thud would ring through the air as Koike let his blade catch the attack, parrying to the right. A short skip diagonally to the left was made as he would let his blade slide quickly, moving the blade already. Standing at the side, he would whistle to signal that they should freeze. "As you now can see, a quick reaction like this can lead to a counter-attack. With my blade, I can either attempt to direct your weapon away. I can try to kick you or if you're not quick enough it will lead to an opening, allowing me to follow up with a cut from the side to your exposed shoulder, arm or waist." Lowering his blade he would nod as they would take once more the same positions. Taking the stance once more Koike would speak up, again. "This time, try to go for a stab."
Surprised Meilin listened and paid close attention. Trying to memorise how he had moved away and what kind of openings it would give him to retaliate back amazed her. The teen wondered who had designed this kind of fighting stance and how many times it had been trained and practised by Koike to make it look so smooth.
Taking back her starting position Meilin nodded. Stepping forward, she pushed her practice blade forward.
Only to feel the blunt point of Koike's sword against her shoulder. As she had moved forward, the Hon had taken a step back slightly to the left. Avoiding the stab this way, the hanging sword had been lifted slightly to let Meilin walk against it. "Considering that in the heat of battle people tend to move quickly, this would have likely made you literally walk into my blade. Imagine if I had pushed and slightly aimed the point lower and I had you near the heart," he explained while moving the tip of the blade away and lowering the practice weapon. "I think that should be enough for now. Any questions, perhaps?"
Blinking as her eyes shot down at first, glancing at the spot where the point of his practice blade had been Meilin had all kind of questions. But none that she deemed relevant or urgent. Lowering her own practice blade the teen would bow towards Koike. "No, but thank you so much for tutoring me today. Many thanks, sir."
Raising his left hand to scratch his left cheek Koike remained silent for a second. "You're welcome, though I was paid to do this. You are picking it up at a good rate. Try to practice the stances and movements as much as you can. The more you feel that they become natural, the easier it will be to execute them in the heat of a fight," Koike told her, a faint smile appearing on his lips. He couldn't state that he hadn't enjoyed to teach her what he knew. Or, at least, just a part. There was so much more to sword fighting, but nothing that he could cover in a few hours of explaining and showing the stances, grips and movements.
"Heh, thanks. So, how long have you been practising to fight with a sword?" Meilin decided to ask.
That was something he couldn't answer right away. "Easily said, for years. I was trained in some basics with my education. Then I worked and expanded my knowledge, skill and experience as I served in the Shinobi corps," he answered back.
"And what are your plans for this evening?"
The question caught Koike off guard. Blinking twice rapidly he wasn't sure at first what to say. "Nothing important, why?" He would ask back.
"How about we do something? I am not that yet at home in the city nor do I know much people," Meilin explained, slightly amused at the current situation, "I also want to thank you for going out of your way to teach me. So how about I treat you on a drink or two?"
This was new, he thought to himself. Not seeing any harm in the suggestion, Koike chuckled. "Sure. I can see if I can bring some people if you're not that much at home yet. How does that sound?"
Briefly, Meilin was disappointed. Hoping that she could manage to learn him better alone, she wasn't truly against his suggestion. Flashing a smile, the raven-haired teen answered back. "Sure, where do we meet?"
"Easy. As you came here, you just need to go to," he started to explain where they would meet and how late.
