Ryo Katsu,
Ghost ANBU - Shockwave

Eastern part of the Wolf Country | 4:23 PM - 7th of November

Last time...

Summary :
Another sneak peak of the imminent threat that the western nations are oblivious too, through the perspective of Ryo Katsu. A stranded Ghost ANBU operative from the Akinian Empire, who wasn't able to make the trip back in time to the western continent.
[spoili]

This was just impossible. With weary eyes, he just kept looking in front of him. It was just impossible as he couldn't fathom a logic behind this force. There were so many men that weren't organised in uniforms or having proper tasks. It was as if they were herded together, given some scraps of armour and weaponry and being called a force. Not that Ryo considered that they were easy to deal with. Many of them were literally brutes. They didn't seem the sharpest tools in a shed, but their muscled arms said enough. Even if those arms didn't wield high-quality weaponry. What surprised and made him feel dread was how the army was acting. No armed force in the known world acted like this. There was no visible order or discipline other than the visible captains and officers- who at least were easy to recognise from their good quality armour and weapons - who barked orders or even killed soldiers on spot for not reacting on time. Or just to make the others fall back in line. As he had counted up to a number of 90 thousand, using various manners - such as trying to understand how many soldiers served under one captain or other higher ranked officer - he wasn't able to figure out how the daily losses from fights between the ranks were filled up with. It was as if he was in the midst of human-sized maggots that weren't eating just dead flesh from a wound or corpse, but even each other. Only to be replaced by another when being consumed.

Sitting on a log Ryo was this time dressed as one of those brutes. For the past two days, he had managed to sneak in and after disposing of two soldiers he had managed to stay in a low profile. There were other young men. Some of them were silent and being fond of taking up the place in the background. They were often in small groups and seemed quite eager to not get into trouble with anybody. Then there were the loudmouths. Surprising enough they made up the bulk of the young soldiers being present. They were poorly equipped and from various fights, Ryo had seen that they were barely trained at all. Swinging their weapons wildly around, shouting battle cries or curses - as he couldn't make any logic from their language - it was clear that they weren't much of a threat alone. Walking around the camp, those loudmouths were much of the opposite from the more quiet teens. They seemed to be quite willing and eager to get themselves bloodied, though unlike some of the brutes duels usually ended up with the group of loudmouths charging all together to either inflict more harm to another group or managing to get everybody of their group away from a fight.

How this hadn't all fallen apart just baffled Ryo. He had wondered what purpose this army had. Wondered about if he should try to head west once more, trying to make contact with his fatherland to warn them about this new development. While it kept nagging at the back of his head to go back with his findings there was something else that kept Ryo attached to sticking around this dreadful host. He understood so little of it that any report he could send back would just be incomplete. Others would be sent in his stead while he likely would be allowed to rest out, being safe. Thus being nothing more than a coward. And while he was considered a dead man, that didn't mean that he was going to accept the rest of his existence the fact he would flee from his duty.

Briefly, he thought back to the times of Team 4. At times like these, he wished he had shown more discipline and restraint. Being more of a proper shinobi, a real addition to his team and friends. Being able to spend more time Midori and write her more often, even about trivial matters as he wagered that she would've liked that. A sigh escaped Ryo as he briefly closed his right eye and rubbed his forehead. If there was only a chance to make amends for his mistakes then he considered that his current vocation was a possible manner. Thinking further about it, it was. Perhaps he couldn't go on missions or prevent Kensuke from chasing ghosts and Hyuuga but he could at least try to keep their fatherland safe so that when he would be back from his operations that he could pursue his moody affairs in peace. Was at least something he could do in return for the patience and friendship Kensuke had given him, Ryo thought with a grim mood.

Suddenly he lifted his head up and looked at his right. People shouted and it was clearly nothing something good. Excitement and anger seemed mixed and sure enough, a fight broke out. The ground that perhaps once covered in lush, green vegetation was stamped till it was nothing but dull, brown, dusty ground. And as Ryo watched blood soon was spilt on the ground as a few brutes started to fight with a recklessness that he hadn't seen often in his life. What made them so reckless and uncaring for their own wellbeing? Capable of stabbing and taking down a man that they laughed and drank with, only to have a mortal fight with the next day. Was this some sort of hell, marching westwards? Shaking his head lightly Ryo forced himself to not give in to his fantasy.

Getting up Ryo decided that he would take a walk. Perhaps try to discover and learn more about this army. Already he had made the decision to not stick around longer than a day as he didn't want to risk to be captured or perhaps end up in one of those fights.

[fieldbox="Letters From Home, green, dashed, 10, Tahoma"]
Mizuchi Hojo | Storm Guard Member | Kumogakure Vanguard Member | Sky-Wolf Border, Encampment
Making her way through the people awaiting the supply convoy which had arrived, Mizuchi sought out where the letters from home were being distributed. Naturally, the Chuunin was hoping to hear from her family, a mix of wondering how her family was doing and just wanting to be reminded that there was somebody back home. It was awfully odd how lonely it got out here, despite the massive amount of soldiers and fellow shinobi deployed. It did not take her terribly wrong to reach her destination, and Mizuchi quickly found that she had not one, but two letters addressed to her. Something she wasn't expecting, but as the Chuunin walked away and glanced over the second letter a smile spread across her lips. The second letter was certainly a surprise, but a pleasant one at that.

With that, the girl made a direct line to the barracks, where she hoped onto her bunk, opening the first letter and reading through its contents. A letter from father, updating her about how everything was back home and what her siblings were up to, as far as he knew. Then mentioning, of course, how he was proud of the girl and did miss her. Wishing her well then telling her to make it home safe, and that her parents loved her. The girl made a mental note that she would certainly have to write father back, and to avoid mentioning the whole battle she had been through. It just wouldn't be fair to worry her father more than he was surely already worried since two of his daughters were deployed.

The second letter, which had been the surprise to bring a smile to her lips, came next. A letter from Toshiko, her twin sister, the two had always been quite close growing up. Reading through the letter, Mizuchi was happy to see that Toshiko was happy in her marriage. It seemed that her sister and her husband were considering having a child. Mizuchi made sure to keep that in mind when she wrote Toshiko back,it was something her twin seemed rather excited about in the letter. Of course, the rest of the letter was telling Mizuchi to stay as safe as she could, and to come home in one piece. Intermixed with threats of bodily harm should she not. The Hojo smiled as she folded up the letter, storing it and the one from her father among the few pieces of personal gear she had, so she could read them again later.

Leaving the barracks, Mizuchi knew what was next on her list of things to do while she still had some time on her hands. The Chuunin made her way over to the infirmary to check up on the soldier who had saved her life during that battle. She had been in once so far, before he had woken, and during that time managed to learn his name. Yuuta Senshi. A fitting name for him, were one to ask the Hojo. She made her way through the infirmary, after dealing with some who were there to ensure people didn't go romping through the infirmary without reason. Approaching his cot, Mizuchi half expected to see the man laying there unconscious still, but to her surprise, she found that he was sitting up and looking around. Immediately, her eyes locked onto his upper body, looking at the scar from the entrance wound the sword had caused. The one he had taken to protect her.

Looking up from the wound, she studied his face. Rather handsome features adorned him, and unlike a decent amount of the soldiers around here; Mizuchi was pleased to realize he was clean shaven. She never quite understood the draw to beards with men, or why it made them feel so "manly". She only had a few more moments to admire that he actually was quite attractive, noticing his dark hair and green eyes, before the man seemed to notice her standing there. She gave a wave by way of greeting before approaching. "So, you're awake finally? Good to see, I'd be a liar if I was to say I hadn't been worried since you were injured." she said, finding a small stool and sitting on it next to his cot. The man nodded with a half-smirk. "Seems I am. Glad you came by, never got to say thanks for having my back." he said, to which the girl nodded.

"I'd checked up on you once before, but you were still taking your little nap. Also, I should be the one thanking you. Not the other way around. You'd didn't have to take that sword for me." she said, looking away for a moment before hearing him respond. "Aye, but I'd be damned if I didn't do the best I could to protect others. Though getting stabbed was not originally part of the plan." he said with a small laugh, then a grimace as he seemed to hurt himself. "Yeah. That was dumb." he said to nobody in particular before continuing. "Anyways, as riveting a topic my being stabbed is, let us change the subject. Erm... Don't think I ever caught a name?" he asked the girl, seeking to change the topic.

A momentary flash of worry crossed her features as Mizuchi studied the man when he seemed to be in pain for a second after laughing. Though they quickly relaxed as he seemed to recover. "Mizuchi Hojo. I already know that you're Yuuta Senshi, the nurses ratted you out there." she said as he nodded. "Ah, a Hojo, explains the armor and being rather handy with a sword bit. Well then, pleased to meet you. Not everyday you get a meet a beautiful lady with skills to handle herself." he said with a grin once more, obviously trying to make light of the situation at hand. Something Mizuchi briefly wondered was his way of coping with the situation he found himself in. "...-ner or something.", a voice interrupted her thoughts as Mizuchi looked at him. "I'm sorry, I must have spaced out for a second. What were you saying?" she asked.

"Ah, just a joke, something about how I saved you back there, so the least you could do is go with me to dinner or something." he said once more, to which the chuunin rolled her eyes and laughed a bit. After about an hour of talking, the girl stood up to excuse herself. Feeling the need that she should leave him to rest and recover a bit more. As she was heading out away from his cot, she paused upon hearing him call her name quickly. "Usually, I'm not overly fond of your kind and your powers. Shinobi that is, can't be sure which of them to trust. But you, you're alright. I think I'd like if you stopped by some other time. I could certainly use the company, either that or we can talk again once I'm out of this joint." he said with a serious look to show he wasn't making a joke out of this one. The girl gave a small smile and nodded in response, before answering. "Sure. Think I might do so if I have the time. Also, Yuuta, we both make it home alive, and I'll let you take me out to dinner." she said in a friendly tone before turning and leaving. Smiling slightly as she heard him call after her.

"Look forward to it then."

[fieldbox= Shin Yuki]
Shin frowned. He hadn't meant they should only carry in boxes as a group, but that if they could start off with a heavy box, they would have an easier time. It wasn't enough of a difference that it would greatly affect their chances of success, but it was a chance. He shrugged, scratching the back of his head. It seemed clear they weren't going to utilize that idea, but oh well. "Well, I just figured she would come tell us if there's too big of a problem." He saw Aya transform, making note of what she looked like in her disguise before transforming as well, turning into an older man with a bit of a belly on him. He let Aya go in a few people ahead, before actually going over and picking up a box to carry in. The guards at the door gave him a bit of a suspicious look at first, but didn't seem to care enough to stop him.

Upon entering, he carried the box to a back corner, barely opening a box and looking inside, only to see seaweed. He made a roughly formed scoop of ice to move it to check underneath in case of hidden contraband, then melted it, closing the box. He stepped back outside, getting another box. This went on for a little while, picking up varying boxes of different sizes to carry in, checking other boxes, and going back out. Eventually the guards' gazes glazed over him like he was just any other worker, which was relieving. Eventually, he saw that Aya wasn't coming back into the building, as well as possibly getting some form of message from Nami, and he went back to check up with them, with nothing to account for on his end. He scratched the back of his head, looking to Aya, "I didn't find anything... Guess I didn't check the right boxes..." He shrugged, "Oh well, nice job Aya..."

Ameko Flani
Kirigakure Genin
Exploring Kirigakure

Ameko Flani, the girl born with the legendary Flani Gland, finally finished unpacking her stuff inside of her new apartment. The final item was a photo frame showing her last birthday before her clan took her away. It was great being able to send home some of the money they gave her but she still missed the days of being told stories from her father or helping her mother cook meals with what leftovers they had. She hugged the photo before placing it in her mirror above her sink. "I hope you all are doing ok and will visit."

With that everything was finish. Her mat was made up with a simple blue thin comforter, a clean bowl with chopsticks stood on a wooden table. A blue cloth hanged in her window, casting a blue tint as the sunlight struggled to pass through it. On the floor was a blue rug and below that was hard wood floors. It was not exactly like her parents house but she tried to make things a similar as possible. She did not see the reason to overly splurge like the clan heads did. Her parents taught her better than to waste even a single coin. The only thing she was missing now was something for dinner. The Clan heads told her how important it was for her to eat but if there was no big training event, she always found herself eating just enough to be content. Today would be no different as she was complete with her training and was a full fledged Genin. With her black cloak around her, she was ready for the chill fall weather and her mission to obtain food was a go.

Walking around, she still found it amazing the different walks of life people had in the city. Rarely anyone appeared to be a farmer or seasonal harvester like her parents. Most people looked like they never even been on a farm. Some people even looked highly decorative due to there wealth like the clan heads. Then if you walked into the less nicer areas of the city, you would see kids who walked around without parents and looked as if they did not know how to bath. While she remembered being limited on the amount of baths her family could take due to money, she at least tried to stay clean. This kids were own a whole other level. The scampered around like scavengers taking whatever they could get away with. It was astounding till one bumped into her. He apologized and tried to run off but Ameko was no fool too the trick. The headsmen warned her of these kids and and how they like to take your money by bumping into you.

She pulled out her sickle of her kusarigama and threw it so that it would land in front of the kid. Though it seemed dangerous, she was not worried. She had a 1 in 3 chance of landing her mark in training so as long as she did not throw it any more, she should had been good. That was how that math magic worked right? The kid stopped and fell to his but scared at the fact that he could have lost his life. When he turned around he saw the girl and her red and blue eyes piercing him from her hood.

"My pocket seem light brat, I would feel better if you returned what you borrowed."

The kid gave an uneasy smile and started shaking. "I... I don't"

She dropped the weight of her kusarigama and slammed it into the ground. "The only words I wish to hear is 'Yes Anego.'"

The kid nodded and pulled out a small purse with her Clan's symbol on it.
latest

Looking inside to make sure not a single coin was missing, she picks up her weapon and hides it under her cloak. She then bows to the kid, thanking him for his cooperation and starts to walk off. After seeing Ameko's back, the kid blows a raspberry at her while pulling down his eye lid but Ameko pelts a coin at his head knocking him to the ground. The kid stands up angry and shouts how she is bad and evil until he realized that she threw money at him. He falls to the ground smiling as he stares at the coin.

Korina Kusanagi | Chuunin
Sky Wolf Country Boarder

Rest was a necessity, it was one of the first things that every kid learned whenever they tried to stay up past their bed time. Korina had been no different when it came to such scoldings. No amount of star viewing excuses would get her out of resting, at least not until she became Kiyohime. Then, staying up all night or injured and being expected to perform at a satisfactory level the day after became the norm.

She had been unsure if such training would have been useful, but--like many things had--she'd been proven wrong. This had to be the second time the nurse had scolded her for trying to get out of treatment for her right leg, which had suffered a nasty arrow wound in the thigh. A wound she had suffered in the last battle and had been wholly avoidable...maybe. It all blended together in the aftermath, if she were being honest. Her quiver had long since run out, and she hadn't had the time to switch her summoned quivers out with a paper seal.

Sleep was something that she felt like she had forgotten. Her own guilt kept her up since the battle. Her guilt for killing so mindlessly, her guilt for not being more prepared, and her guilt at her own cowardice. Korina longed to leave the bed, but the nurse refused, citing that the ninja's wound was much deeper than she believed. If she let it heal, she would be back in the fight soon enough.

Did she want the though? To get back out there and fight? She wasn't sure anymore.

Steel gray eyes stared down at the pale hands in her lap as she worked on stripping and cleaning her kote. The mindless, familiar task gave her something to find that ever elusive center of focus. Her inattentiveness had almost gotten her killed had that arrow had struck a major artery. And her anger had worsened the injury after she ripped out the arrow and kept fighting.

She stared at her hands quietly as they hovered over her kote. Beside her, a soldier whimpered for someone to make the pain stop for the third time in as many minutes. She snapped over to him to bitingly tell him to quiet the hell down, but the words were lodged in her throat when she saw his missing arm. His good hand was outstretched, for someone, anyone to help him. Across from her, a woman laid still as a doctor and nurse pulled the blood stained blanket over her head. Korina swallowed slowly and slowly rotated to look to her other side and felt her heart drop into her stomach. More people were being transported, tagged, and identified by their designated village tags.

When did she become such a...a bitch that let her emotions rule her that she forgor this? Had she really been so selfish and self-absorbed with her flesh wound and pity party that she'd forgotten that there were people that died that night and others that continued to suffer? Had she always been THIS heartless?

That was no way for a Kiyohime to act...no way for HER to act.

Her aunt had been right...she'd lost her way. Amaiya had been right...she wasn't in control of her own life or herself...she was a slave.

A slave to herself.

"I'm so sorry..." She said, ignorant to the tears as they ran down her cheeks. She could only apologize to the man for how she had treated him and for her careless thoughts. She reached out to his open hand and grasped it with both of hers as he cried from his pain. She couldn't help his pain, not could she give him back his arm. But she had hoped that she could help him feel like he wasn't alone.

When the nurse came back around to check on her sometime later, Korina stared as the doctors did what they could. Her hands were still clinging to his own, so desperate was his wish to be alone and so steadfast was her refusal to let him feel alone.

[fieldbox=Coughing rats - Part I]
Team Meilin/7,
Catching the Bull by its horns.

A collab written between Icy, Oetje, Roran and Gerontis.

Summary :
After grouping together Meilin, Kensuke and Hideki discuss a plan of approach. On the suggestion of Meilin they decide to pay a visit to the 'Bull' in order to see if they can extract some more information about those behind the abductions in Keishi.

Her arm was getting better. The bandage was still wrapped around her skin and wounds, inflicted by the weird creature. The ANBU had dispatched two members, but already they had given the warning that the damage was likely too severe that they wouldn't be able to extract much information. Staring at the bandage Meilin was silent and hadn't spoken a word after they had left the sewer with the only source of information that could help them to get to the next step. Not a total stranger to moments of depression and bad luck as she was suffering right now, Meilin was sure that this was the worst ending of anything she had ever done before. Her mind was spinning with the amount of work she had to move. What she had to do when she would go back to Konohagakure. That was, of course, if she would be allowed to do anything. Her brain didn't stop working as she wanted to try to think of something.

Considering something she knew it was a slim chance, but without any other leads who would even care? Clearing her throat as they walked across the street to the place where they could pick up her little sister, Meilin spoke to Hideki and Kensuke in a hushed tone.
"Seeing that 'they' won't be able to get the information, I think I know a possible lead. It is a risky shot, but if you guys would help me out with this one then we perhaps can help a lot of people." She was certain that this was probably asking for too much, but if somebody could know information on where or who that guy was or had been then it had to be him.

Kensuke considered this as they walked. "I think it's a better idea to see if your sister is safe first, and share our intel second. Then we can properly assess the risk of your lead." Kensuke said rationally.

Hideki kept quiet, walking alongside Meilin and Kensuke. He idly scanned the streets and the townspeople — the chaos from earlier seemed to have stilled.

Meilin briefly threw a sideways look at the men. The twinge of distrust was there, but she noticed something else that made her frown. "Okay, but what happened to Karma? Why isn't she with you guys?" She asked, the twinge of distrust slightly growing as she could already think of reasons. And none of them was really making the situation in any sense better.
Still leading the way, however, Meilin considered something else as well.

Kensuke's expression didn't change. "She was injured during an ambush yesterday evening during our debriefing." He explained. "After which she didn't trust us enough and tried looking for you." He continued. "As far as I know she's still looking."

Hideki's expression remained blank during Kensuke's half-truth, eye on the streets ahead. He wondered absently what might happen to Karma back in Konohagakure. "Shall we pick up our pace?"

"Doubt it. She didn't contact me through the manners I left behind for her. Not that I really spent much time with waiting or seeing if she was trying to contact me. I had... other affairs to distract me." Meilin said, phrasing the last part of her comment a tad slower.
"As much as not trusting you guys, I already was aware of that when she and I met in my parent's home." Meilin became silent for a moment. Frowning she took another look Kensuke, realising something. "She lied to you, didn't she?" There wasn't any cheerful or playful tone to Meilin's voice.

"She didn't trust you guys after how the questioning went with that Hyuuga. Which you both seem to be familiar with." Looking ahead of her, Meilin took another moment of silence to consider something. This was a new development, but it wasn't much important for her at the moment. The only part that made no sense was that they had been ambushed but Meilin wouldn't start to ask too many questions.
"It isn't far from here," she said after Hideki's words. Leading them further they would take a right swing around a corner. It was leading to what seemed to be somewhat modest homes. Some families were at home or so it did seem and sound like it. "Euhm..." Meilin slowly came to a halt as she eyed the two. "I know that this isn't going to be appreciated, but can I go alone? Just to prepare her for who she is going to meet?"

Kensuke's smile betrayed his lack of surprise at the news of Karma lying. "You can go first Meilin, but we'll be right behind you." He said. He didn't doubt that meeting two scarred shinobi would be discomforting for Meilin's sister, but that would be something she'd have to deal with.

Hideki eyed Meilin, still feeling some uneasiness over her previous expedients. But no matter, he always had the Byakugan were she to make a run for it.

"Thanks. Do keep a bit of a distance, really. I already asked a lot of these people and I rather want to be able to come back to them. In the future I come once more to Keishi." She said. A brief look was thrown in their direction before Meilin would turn around and start to walk. She approached one of the nearby homes. Knocking on the front door, a woman opened the door. She seemed to be quite happy to see Meilin back and beckoned her to come inside. The teen shook her head slightly and after what seemed to be a short conversation. The woman threw a look past Meilin at the two other members of Team 7. The woman seemed to resort to a hushed tone and seemed to be slight confused. Meilin shook once more with her head as she seemed to try to reassure the woman. Eventually, Meilin managed to assure the woman and the door would close. Meilin half turned, throwing a blank glance at Kensuke and Hideki.
Placing her left hand on her hip Meilin was about to say or ask something as her lips parted from each other. Just then the door would open and a small child almost stumbled outside with a small brown backpack - that seemed to be quite old and tarnished - to grab Meilin. The child started to speak up in a language that was different than the one that many people used. The woman of before appeared again in the door opening. She spoke to Meilin, but her eyes settled for a moment on Kensuke and Hideki. Once more the teen shook her head and offered a hand. Instead, the woman would pull her in for a short hug.

After saying their goodbye Meilin would grab one of the hands of the small girl that stuck the thumb of her free hand in her mouth. Walking back to Kensuke and Hideki, Meilin gestured to the girl next to her.
"This is Hitomo Cho. Hitomo," Meilin switched from language as she spoke also in a softer tone. After Meilin's words, the girl just eyed the men. A glint of curiosity and anxiety was clearly visible, coupled together with a nervous expression flowing over her features. The girl shook her head and seemed to ask something of Meilin, who briefly replied with a short answer.
"Okay, so what now? My idea was to bring a visit to my previous employer. He deals in information, after all."

Kensuke knelt down by the girl and offered her a bite of chocolate he'd kept for the return trip and got up again. "The thief?" Kensuke asked, one eyebrow raised. He hadn't been able to understand the language they'd spoken, nor recognize it. Something to look into in the future.

"A thief?" Hideki asked questioningly. He'd caught mention of no thief up until now — unless his memory was collapsing unto itself. Wouldn't be the first time... "And what are we planning to do in the first place? Can't imagine the higher-ups will be pleased if we decide to take matters into our hands, again — without the ANBU's assent, anyway." He eyed Meilin briefly. While he'd never experienced anything like it himself, his parents alive and well, he could imagine what she was going through — but this was a question of loyalty and allegiance. As these thoughts chased each other in his head, a foreign one rose up, dark-purple, nagging at him, making him feel somewhat... ashamed.

Hitomo seemed to waver, muttering some words that would sound alien to the man. Pulling her thumb out of her mouth the small girl took the chocolate, in a careful motion. Almost as if she was scared that Kensuke would try to grab her when she would take the chocolate.
"Mmm, more or less. It is a bit more complicated. I figure that if you two can help me get to him that we can make him talk. It will be a bit.. violent, though. Then again, nobody will mourn or be upset if he gets hurt. I was assigned to keep a watch on his activities anyways to gather proof of what he was doing. And it will be something that won't take too long." She said, throwing a look at Kensuke.
"We can't really talk in the open about him, you know. Perhaps we can go somewhere and formulate a plan? Just this last shot to gather more information. Or at least help people who are being pressed by him into coughing up money." Meilin suggested, throwing a quick look at Hitomo. The girl was moving the chocolate to her lips while she stared at the two men. Biting slowly on the chocolate the girl frowned, but she seemed to like the treat. Looking around, it was as if the girl was already looking for some other treat she could ask for.

Kensuke nodded. "We obviously don't want to hurt him or make him realise he's been tracked by the shinobi corps." Kensuke said. "We should discuss how we'll approach this at our new safehouse." He agreed.

Safehouse

Situated in an abandoned radio station's recording room Kensuke was eating a pack of military rations. "Alright. Fill us in on what the thief might know, and how you want to approach him." Kensuke asked in between two bites of a riceball.

Meilin took a moment to weigh the words she would use to describe the next lead. It was nothing but a guess she had. A chance that was slim, but she considered this a desperate time that called for actions like these. Pulling out the map that Kensuke had given her before she had gone on her own, Meilin would place it on the nearby table.
"This is the place," she said, placing her left index finger on the map, signalling where it was she was talking about. "His name is the Bull. Or that is what people call him in these parts. His real is Nakajima. Don't know his surname nor do I doubt that you two are much interested in that or what is his favourite beverage." The teen said, though she didn't sound so amused about her own joke.
"He is around forties, quite the big fellow. Think you can fit twice in him. No offense, sir." Meilin said to Kensuke, briefly glancing up. "Take what I know with a bit of salt, seeing that I only have heard this from others and thus not all is likely true. He started as a competent illegal pit fighter. According to some he was infamous for biting off the ear of his opponents before beating them to a pulp. Hasn't lost a fight in his life, but I am not certain if that is entirely true." Shrugging lightly with her shoulders, Meilin would continue. "Around ten years ago he started to shift from being a successful fighter to leading a band of thieves. Using his brute strength he exorted people and made people both fear and respect him. Over time he has expanded a lot of influence over other districts. He trades in illegal wares, information and some... small crime. Next to the extortation, of course. He doesn't do anything himself, though."

Pausing for a moment to not go too fast, Meilin glanced at the two. "The plan I have is that I will go back. Most of us pickpockets in his service are required to come back with... enough wares, valuable information or cold, hard coin. Else... I figure you two can come up with some interesting ideas that the Bull likely could also come up with." Meilin briefly glanced at her right. Hitomo seemed to be tired, which was a good thing. She felt guilt, anger and frustration mixing together whenever she looked at her sibling. Hopefully soon she could make sure that at least one relative of hers would be safe.
"Seeing that I did bring back a lot of coins to keep him satisified, I will plan to see if I can lure him out. There are only a few problems. The first is that you two won't come even near the building of operations without a fight and thus risking that the Bull will be gone before we even catch a glimpse of his bald skull. I thus suggest that I take you into captivity." Meilin looked at Kensuke. "Everybody is aware of the worth of the Byakugan. However, your dojutsu is a bit rarer. Making it quite worth something to somebody who already deals in illegal wares."

Turning her attention towards Hideki, Meilin continued. "You'll accompany me. You will be the guy who helped me to take down Kensuke and bring him to the Bull. As long as I do the talking then I suspect not a lot of trouble. But, I need both of you to promise that we won't kill the Bull until we got the information he might have. Perhaps we can even drop him at the ANBU if we can't figure how to make him talk ourselves." She suggested, straightening her back. The dark brown eyes of Meilin shifted her gaze between Hideki and Kensuke, clearly nervous if the two would agree to work with her on this.

She knew about Kensuke's Dojutsu? When did that come about; before her offical introduction to Hideki and Karma? Hideki nibbled on his lower-lip, hating the meagre amount of information he seemed to possess in regards to the mission and team. "We'll make him talk," Hideki stated, brushing the suggestion aside with a dismissive gesture. "But is this the safest option? Are there hired Shinobi under this 'Bull'? Me and Kensuke-san could otherwise simply enter camouflaged."

"That sounds risky, but I like the idea." Kensuke admitted. "I had a safer bet in mind. Hideki and I can enter completely invisible except to sensory shinobi with the camouflage jutsu." He confirmed Hideki's statement with a nod at the younger man. "And you would resume your old role, as a returning thief who hasn't reported in for the past week and a bit somehow mysteriously." He explained. "If you can isolate him with some tempting offer or explanation we could ambush him, disguised as hired thugs." Kensuke continued. "We'd even keep him from finding out he's being monitored by the state."

Meilin gained a faint smile as Hideki stated that they would make him talk. His question was met with Meilin shaking her head lightly. "Not so far I could gather from my time there. I do know that he keeps half a dozen illegal fighters with him. They likely will beat us seeing that they outnumber us and given the fact that they are not the easy kind of thugs that try to mug you during the night." She answered back. "But I doubt it that he has any ex-shinobi working for him. The Bull doesn't prefer working with people that were ... loyal to the government or switched loyalties. Besides, I will need something to bring you close to him. Make him drop his guard. If I request a meeting alone or if nobody sees me with the promised wares then it might take some time before he will be willing see me. If I, however, present him the Green Falcon and not just being there empty-handed? I think he will be quite curious. And not that I doubt the ability of you both to hide, but if one of his guards notices something odd then it is over to capture him in a quick way without too much violence."

Becoming silent for a second, she realised the irony of her next comment. "I know it isn't easy now to trust me. Nor do I like to trust others at this moment, but give me this shot and I promise you that I will go as long as I can do something to help those people. I only have one sibling saved, but I still have more and my father..." Her voice trailed off as she thought back to her mother. For a second Meilin bite her lower lips as her eyes lowered to stare at the map. "I am sure that if we can't get information about the missing families we can help a lot of people that are being exhorted by the Bull. It is at least something for the people in the city before we go to Konoha."

Hideki made a low whistling sound with his lips pressed together, weighing options. Truth to be told, he didn't much care for the operation itself. Nothing made sense in his brain anyway. "It's up to Kensuke-san," he said, shrugging. "But Meilin, just so we're on the same page here... this is your last chance. If you try to sell us out and take care of things on your own, again, neither me, nor I suppose Kensuke-san, will lay back. We have nothing to do with these people, personally or professionally — this is all for you."

Kensuke looked Meilin in the eye long after it become uncomfortable. His pupils turned, grew and shrank as his dojutsu worked on her, analyzing her body language. Then it stopped, and Kensuke nodded, as if having made a decision on the matter. "You heard Hideki." He said. "This is your last shot at this." He said with the same stern voice.

Suddenly he reached for his sword and retrieved the scabbarded weapon. He looked at it for a moment. Below layers of wear and battle damage one could vaguely recognise ornate decorations. An old, threadbare blue ribbon that had started to lose its colour was tied to the top of it. A crooked smile found its way onto Kensuke's face as he thought of the girl with which his fate had been so closely intertwined. Until she'd cut that thread and disappeared without a word. The stab of familiar pain was not any more bearable because he expected it. But it was an old friend, and he cherished it because of the good memories that came with it. He blinked for a few moments and his face returned to his usual indifferent expression. He handed her the sword.

"Would the very sword of Shigeru Nimatsu, who founded the Talon village and the Nimatsu clan more than 150 years ago attract his undivided attention?" He said, not completely capable of disguising his ancestral pride.

There was a sarcastic reply at the ready on Meilin's lips, but she just nodded towards Hideki. "Understood." She said, knowing that there was little need to say something else but that word.
As Kensuke took the word and showed a beautiful sword, Meilin looked at it for a moment and shook her head. Examine the sword for a good, long moment the teen shook her head lightly.
"You think that somebody who can force or make some smiths to produce quality work would give something about an heirloom? A dojutsu eye is more worth. A sword?" Briefly the teen glanced once more to the sword.
"That can be forged, repaired and else replaced. A living being? Not so much. Certainly not somebody that is quite known by name and fame." She said. "This is seriously the only way we can get close to him altogether. If he was the type to be persuaded to just come outside cause of some fancy sword or promises then we wouldn't be here anymore. I need you in the flesh with me. If something goes wrong then you don't need to jump from any kind of place or try to rush in. If you both want to give me one more shot," she glanced at Hideki as well, "Then lets do it like this. I will not double-cross you, promised. Else, keep a shadow clone with Hitomo. I promise on her life and frankly," Meilin glanced once more at the sword before holding it up so that Kensuke could take it back as she locked her eyes on him.

"She is all I have that really matters. If that doesn't help to convince you of my intentions then I don't know what will."

"Of course he'd care," Hideki said, somewhat vexed on his commander's behalf. "Unless he's truly a brute to the marrow — in which case we should be able to handle him by martial prowess and some cunning alone." He threw a glance at Hitomo, feeling a pang of sympathy for the child — far too young for all this nonsense — before fixing a hooded eye on Meilin. He assumed a mechanical air and spoke, cold and inflectionless, "Deal, then — if your sister's life's in the equation, I doubt you'll dare run riot." The necessity to display such cruelty, mock-up as it may be, made his gut knot and conscience ache.

Kensuke looked at the girl with skepticism in his eyes. Eventually he relented given the terms she presented. She really was betting it all on this. Her brutal honesty was refreshing and it gave him what he might call hope. Which was of course immediately tempered by the prospect of walking into a thief's lair unarmed and chained, to be presented to his mercy. If the scoundrel would even buy the story at all.

"Your plan is flawed too. Why would he believe that you, a petty thief in his eyes, could have dispatched me." He asked. "If he is not an idiot, and as a crime syndicate leader I doubt he is, he won't have much trouble sniffing out that this is a trap for him." He said, although he already knew how to remedy that. Perhaps this was being the sensei-thing, he thought to himself. Always testing, challenging.

Meilin shot Hideki a look. "I wish he would." She said, understanding that rejecting the idea wasn't perhaps a fine gesture to them, but she knew enough about the Bull on how he looked at things. As the Hyuuga glanced at Meilin her instincts were screaming at her to step between them and her sibling. Suppressing her emotions and desires to the degree she just appeared calm the teen would nod after his words.
"Just don't make her suffer." She hadn't rather said those words, but a soft yawning sound from Hitomo's sound was enough to make Meilin shiver lightly from the thought that the girl had to suffer at the hands of anybody. "Just trust me and go along. My first intention is that we all get out alive and then the information."

As Kensuke spoke Meilin raised her eyebrows. "The thief that so far hasn't been missing a payday? Has information on the government through a captive? If something I already reckon that he is aware that I have been hanging around with you." Taking a step closer to the tall man Meilin slightly tilted her head to the right.
"I have been dealing with the majority of my life with guys like him. If he will learn I got somebody of such high value and importance he will have to bite. Know what he will think when he sees you?" She took another step closer as she kept her eyes locked with Kensuke's.
"He will see a person who can give him a lot of information. Fun, cause you're not looking like the type who will just talk. Then you have two very valuable eyes that can fetch him a good price. And," her right eyebrow moved slightly up, "I know how to make him want an offer more than anything. Besides, he is... a typical... man." She said, the pace of her phrasing growing a bit slower. A dangerous glint started to play in the dark brown eyes as she took two steps back. "I know how to convince him. All I need is your hands tied and not looking armed. Hideki will accompany me and we will walk right into the den of the lion. I will tell him how I managed to... convince you to drop your guard and make an irresistible offer to Hideki." She said, gesturing to the Hyuuga with her left hand. "From there? We will just wait for the right moment or I will free you before they will take you away from my grasp. Once freed? I doubt that a jounin and a chuunin can lose to some surprised brutes."

Hideki rubbed his brow and eye with the back of his hand, the frayed gauze rough to his skin. "Still makes no sense. You'll have to act sedated, Kensuke-san. Ever been under the effects of poison?"

Kensuke looked at Meilin with what could pass as pity and then looked at Hideki who seemed convinced that this was a good idea. Or rather, who seemed willing to roll with it. "I can't believe you guys are talking me into this." He said with a dramatic sigh, and he created a shadow clone with considerable force, using at least a third of his chakra. It nodded at the people present and offered a hand to Hitomo. "Let's go play!" He said to the girl, and led her towards another sound-proof room.

"I have been drunk before if that's of any help." He said to Hideki, rubbing his chin. "Sure. Let's get this over with then." The tall jounin said and grabbed a metal support from the wall and, using fire chakra, made it into a passable copy of some heavy-metal handcuffs. "Turn me in officer!"

Meilin crossed her arms out front of her chest as she waited for what they had to say. As the plan seemed to be the one that they would go for Meilin flashed a sideways look at Hitomo. The girl seemed to be still somewhat intimidated by the tall Nimatsu. Certainly, now that there were two of them. Still having her right thumb stuck into her mouth, the girl threw a glance at her older sibling. Meilin flashed a smile and said something at a fast pace. Causing Hitomo to get up and eye the Kensuke - the shadow clone - in front of her. A nervous, soft yelp escaped the girl. She threw a look at Meilin again, before she would go with the shadow clone. For a moment Meilin wondered how that would go. Hopefully, Hitomo would just fall asleep as she was aware that she wasn't likely able to understand everything that Kensuke would say and the thought of leaving her with was practical a stranger for both of them? Meilin already felt her stomach twisting by the thought, but focused on the task ahead of them.
"Don't make them too tight. It is all going to be a facade." She told Kensuke when she saw what he was doing. "And if anything, try to make a mess of your hair..." She eyed the jounin for another moment and considered something else. "And try to look as if somebody just hauled you from brushing your teeth. Hideki," Meilin turned her attention to him. "I am going to give you a signal. When I say "You can bet on it", that is the signal for you to take down the nearby thugs. I will use a technique to cover any room we will be in in ash and smoke. I figure your eye can still see through that, though."
That having said she would turn back to Kensuke. "Sir, would you please make yourself look more... like a morning person." Meilin said, not really tempted by the idea to pull any clothing off the man herself.

"Right..." Kensuke said. He sighed, undid the handcuffs for a moment and began unbuckling his armour. He then took off his arming jack he was wearing underneath untill he was dressed in just his shirt and shinobi pants. He then coated his hand in chakra to crack open a wall and apply some dirt and dust over his clothing and face, ruffling through his hair until he looked properly confused. He then picked up the restraints again and affixed them to his wrists once more. "Better hope this works then." He said, withholding that his shadow clone had the instructions to bring the girl to the Talon village should their endeavour fail.

Approaching the building Meilin was wary of any movement. If it wasn't for the fact that Hideki was also on their side and thus able to help if anybody would attempt to stop or apprehend them she would've reconsidered the plan. Using her experience and knowledge to sneak near the warehouse that the Bull used for his main base of operations Meilin briefly thought about Hitomo. It was just a thought she couldn't fully push back from the front of her mind. Pushing Kensuke forwards Meilin made sure it didn't look like they were on friendly terms. As they approached the warehouse more figures would be visible. Men and women that were somewhat older than Meilin as teens, throwing curious looks as the three kept walking towards one of the entrances of the warehouse. It was clear that they had been able to spot the company from some distance as even a welcome party was waiting at the door from which Meilin wanted to use to lead Hideki and Kensuke into the building.

The 'welcome' party was, however, clearly more armed and less curious. Grim expressions were placed over faces, but nobody asked questions as the door would go open. Pushing Kensuke almost against the door, Meilin muttered a curse. Pushing the tall man once more in a rude fashion Meilin hoped that Hideki or Kensuke wouldn't hold this against her. She doubted it, but how familiar was she with the two?
As they entered the warehouse they would be greeted by a somewhat older man. Sporting a small beard that already started to show some grey hair, the man was bald while a few tattoos crept up from his shirt over his neck.
"Mind to introduce us to your new friends Meilin?" The man asked in a calm tone. He briefly locked his eyes on Hideki before turning his attention back on Meilin.
"I come and bring Kensuke Nimatsu. The Green Falcon, the clan leader of the Nimatsu clan and owner of the Nimatsu dojutsu." Meilin said in a loud tone as if she was one of the street heralds. A silence followed her words as the old man glanced at the Nimatsu.
"How certain are you that this is the man you claim to be?"
This provoked Meilin to push Kensuke on his knees while she kept her eyes locked on the older man. She recognised him as one of the higher ranked members of the Bull's gang. He was armed with a few knives in sheaths while at his right hip a long knife was sheathed in a scabbard.

"I found him in the city. He was looking for some... fun. I didn't believe it at first, but this is his sword." She would use her left hand to unsheath a part of the Nimatsu's sword. The older man narrowed his eyes and took a step forwards. But as the older man did so, Meilin sheath the sword back into the scabbard.
"The boss would like to examine him without the need to wait for it, I wager?" She said, her eyebrows slightly perking up. The older man glanced at the Hyuuga before he turned around to walk away. There were various people staring from places down and at the three. Pulling Kensuke up Meilin glanced at Hideki for a moment. Before she could utter something to him the older man of before came walking back.
"You can go."

Pushing Kensuke forwards Meilin gestured Hideki to follow her. Led by the older man they would be walking away from the curious gazes to a more secluded space. They had to walk through several halls and into what seemed to be the basement of the warehouse. Passing several guards Meilin already started to count how many they had passed.
Finally, they arrived in front of a door that was guarded by a pair of brutish fellows. The older man nodded as one of the brutes would open the door for them. Pushing Kensuke forwards Meilin would, this time, hold a firm grip on the man's shoulder. Entering the room, there he sat. The large man that went by the nickname of the 'Bull' these days.
"I present you Kensuke of the Nimatsu Clan. Managed to catch him in the centre of the city where he got separated from his group." Meilin said.

"Aha." The large man said, leaning forward as he eyed the three. The door would be slammed closed behind them as the man stared for a moment at Kensuke. Only to shift his attention to Hideki and frown. "And who is your new friend? I do hope he can talk himself." He said, the hint being clear that he wanted Hideki to speak for himself. There were other men present in the room. Six, from which four were positioned close to the large Bull. Another was standing at the door, already holding a hatchet as he kept glaring at the three shinobi. Another was busy with sharpening a knife, creating a uncomfortable sound to be repeated as the whetstone slowly moved over the edge of the knife.

Hideki let his gaze fall on the 'Bull', his manner unthreatening, arms lax at the sides. "I'm Hideki. A Chuunin from Konohagakure. This man's," he pointed at Kensuke, "subordinate... Former, anyway."

The tall man looked bedraggled and confused, but despite that a fierce contempt spoke out of his eyes, conveying the promise of death for those who dared venture too close. Despite this show of resistance his movements were uncoordinated, barely able to keep his footing.

Meilin threw a sideways glance at Hideki for a moment. She was afraid for a moment that the Bull would make some demand of the Hyuuga, which didn't make her feel comfortable. Keeping a hand on Kensuke Meilin flexed her free hand. They were outnumbered two to one. That was, excluding the guards outside the room. Already pondering on how they should go about this now that she was in the room Meilin chewed on the inside of her left cheek.
"Thought you would like to meet him. As you can see, I managed to get him as your guest without the loss of any attributes you would find perhaps interesting." Meilin said as she would pause for a second. "Of course, I was hoping for some kind of reward. Next to the fact that Hideki wishes to join you, sir."Meilin threw a sideways glance at Hideki for a moment.

The Bull leant backwards as he frowned after hearing the words from Hideki. "A chuunin," the large man repeated in a slow pace as if he had to remember and weigh the words for a moment. "And why would you betray him?" He asked Hideki, pointing at Kensuke as if the man was nothing but cattle. Only to glance a moment later at Meilin and frown. "And good work. I do have a request for you. I want you to cut off the man's left index finger. I have already heard from some that you were spotted with the man. How many days ago, again?" The Bull didn't wait for Meilin to answer his question, though as he just continued.

"Not too long ago. I reckon not even more than four days ago. So if you indeed came here with the intention to sell this man out then go ahead. His worth won't decrease with losing his left index finger." The Bull said, his tone growing stern. "It is his eyes and face that I want intact. If the rumours are correct he will fetch me a great price. Pupil of the Third Hokage, who is now the current leader of the Hon clan. Not to mention the military chief. Then he is also a clan leader himself, which will make his relatives cough up a good sum of money. Or else the Wind country might be interested in him." A grin started to dawn upon the Bull's lips as he considered that also an option.

Feeling a dryness in his throat at the 'finger request', Hideki assumed a semblance of composure, the corner of his lips curling slightly upwards, displaying the faintest of feigned emotion. "Long story short: I was — am — tired of it all. Empire never did me any good. I just keep losing things, gaining nothing," he said, gesturing at his scars with a self-deprecating smile. "I could divulge more, of course, but I believe my story would put everyone in this room to sleep. It's a typical one. You know Shinobi."

Meilin threw a sideways glance at Hideki. Without uttering, another word of protest the teen would pull out a kunai. Using her free hand to make Kensuke lean forwards with a harsh shove, Meilin would grab one of Kensuke's hands. The sharp edge of the kunai looming over the soft skin of the Nimatsu as Meilin's eyes narrowed. There was no hesitation as she would move the weapon as she spoke up.
"You're right, sir. You can bet on... it that he will fetch a nice price."

In a rapid movement, she would flip the kunai to place the handle in the hands of the jounin while she would straighten her back. Her hands already close together would form the Tiger hand signal as her chakra started to quickly mould and convert into the technique she considered useful for a situation like they were in. Taking a deep breath in smoke as warm ash would start to fill the room as Meilin breathed out the fire technique. It was show time.

Kensuke grinned waved his hands at the guards surrounding them. The metal handcuffs he'd made were heated by the same technique spraying them with molten slag. The next moment Kensuke experienced a moment of familiar desorientation. An ash cloud. He'd almost forgotten Meilin could do that. Just like Ryo had been able to. He pushed past the moment of vertigo and ran for the nearest guard he'd missed, low to the ground to stay clear of the ashes.

Darting backwards as Meilin's ash diffused throughout the room, Hideki's hand disappeared into his pouch, producing a kunai, which he gripped with his right hand, and a single scalpel he charged with vacuum and sent flying toward the doorkeeper, disposed to detonate, his kunai already moving in a whirl toward the one sharpening his knife. As he spun, ash seemed to be attempting to enter through his mouth and nostrils and he forced down a cough, his Byakugan crystallizing.

The large men were taken by surprise. The Bull, himself, quickly rose up by inhaling the smoke and ash that filled the room moved into his mouth and throat. Coughing he tried to use his right arm to take up a defensive stance. "Fucking... kill..." He tried to order. Only three of the bodyguards managed to react as one tried to move to the door in order to open it and alarm those outside that they were needed inside. The two near the Bull would try to form a protective barrier between their boss and the three hostiles.

As the situation combusted into violence Meilin wouldn't instantly join the fighting. She had memorised where everybody had been during the previous talk to plot an approach. Knowing her strengths and weaknesses she considered that leaving the brutes up to Hideki and Kensuke was a viable approach while she would worry first about the prime target than just going to risk her being in the way of the more experienced operatives or make them worry about her safety. Moving without much sound - that was else quite easily concealed by the coughing and sounds produced by the others - Meilin would take a small 'detour' by going to the wall to her right. Keeping herself low the teen would apply chakra to her hands and feet. Using her agility Meilin would proceed to climb the wall. Both to stay away from the fighting and to drop an attack on the Bull before somebody would by accident kill him.

Kensuke ignored the feeling of the man's severed trachea in his hand as he withdrew his chakra-coated arm from the man's throat. He looked around when he crouched and saw four pairs of legs not belonging to his teammates, one of which was headed for the door. The other three had huddled up near where the 'Bull' had been standing. He couldn't see which of the men Hideki and Meilin were targeting and the man had pretty much reached the door by now. He quickly formed the single handseal he needed to summon an air bullet, and after inhaling ash-induced air, he spat out a bullet at the running man. He lost the next moment as he bent over coughing with tears in the corners of his eyes from the ash. That was the last time he'd try using air bullets in an ash cloud.

Tracing the man's fall, Kensuke's air bullet cracking against his spine, Hideki, who had just dispatched the other man, fell upon him from behind, straddling him and — with a scintillate of steel —sheared his throat. Squinting through the ashen cloud, he was disappointed to find it was not the Bull, but his companion, choking on his ruptured throat. He kept his mouth clammed shut and rose, making for the door with a lurch. Don't you dare flee...

Coughing the men tried to offer resistance. It was clear that the ash cloud was starting to become a real trouble as none of them were prepared for a scenario as this one. "Get.. the door.." The Bull tried to shout, only ending in more coughing as he and his remaining companions were attempting to move to the door. From the other side the door would be opened, but the two guards outside would be greeted by the ash screen. Coughing the two brutes weren't able to yet call for help or do much, while they tried to make sense of what was going on.

"Got you."

Kouta Riojin- Chuunin Team 9

As she began to answer him he nodded along to show he was listening, taken a bit back by her sudden outburst. A simple question invoked such anger? She was far too quick to her emotions if such a thing offended her, there was reasons he asked the question. He wasn't assuming the man would abandon them to save himself. Her answers from then on became a bit hostile, clearly not thrilled that he dared ask the question he did. Yet knowing his use in lightning and water was useful, although he could have done without the cheesy line there as it did cause him to smirk and laugh a bit. Yet what she said gave him an idea on what to do.

He held up it hand and lowered it down to the ground to her, to signal to relax. "Calm down now, it was just a question Masami. I had to ask to see if my idea would work, and with your reaction it should. I know Ink release so what I can do is draw up a lost child when we spot him, and have the drawing ask him for help getting home, or at least have him bring the child to a police barracks. If hes not someone to abandon then he should escort the child. The only problem is we have to find him first, hence the question of what does he do in his free time, yet if you don't know then it looks like we have to do this the hard way and start guessing."

He said in an attempt to calm her slight hostility towards him, as he pondered what the man might possibly be doing. "Actually thinking about it, even if we find him. 'We' don't actually have to engage him. The objective is to steal the bells without us getting caught correct? What if someone else stole them? Say a lost child and a bunch of said lost child's friends? Enough of them swarm around a cool man enthralled by him all laughing and pushing away and the bells mysteriously vanish. Still the only problem here is finding him, unless you have any ideas that is." He asked just in case she had a better idea than he did, that and she would be the one to recognize his chakra with her Byakugan. So she was a large part in this plan.[/fieldbox]

Kazumo Sarutobi- Genin Team 8

Walking down the street licking his ice cream he had purchased, this time a tasty chocolate flavor, he had sought out to find any homeless people. He scourged the streets first for any begging for money yet found only one who seemed relatively fine, he seemed a little shaken but seemed to be at ease with more people around surprisingly. Kazumo gave him a little bit of money he had, and as soon as he did he felt eyes piercing his back, causing the end of his hair to perk up, as he threw a casual look around to spot anyone staring daggers at him. Yet with a crowd this big he found nobody looking at him at all. The homeless man thanked him to which Kazumo smiled at him as he walked away finishing the rest of his ice cream. The feeling of being watched having faded away at this point as he continued his search.

As he was looking for more of the homeless he heard some groups of people talking, mentioning a Watanabe Robun and how they should support him as he is the only one that can protect them. while they did mention from criminals, they also mentioned from incursions and the shinobi. The recent attack on the post office must have really cause the disdain between Shinobi and civilians to grow further. Yet incursions was also a worrisome thing here, and the police let criminals walk around freely? Amegakure must really be in a bad spot if all these problematic situations kept going on, along with whoever is going around killing homeless people. As tried listening further into the conversation the same piercing gaze found him again, causing him to twitch as he continue on his way trying to ignore it the best he could.

While he hadn't found a good amount of homeless besides the few begging, he did find something afoot. He walked further into the empty alley and looked at this strange language written on the wall. It was all over the walls and wasn't any language he knew, even though he knew Chonobi it didn't make any sense to him. He scanned the alley for any more but found nothing, so he made a mental note of where this was before starting to take a step away when the gaze found him again. Not even hiding it this time he looked around quickly yet like always found nothing looking at him. "What the hell?" He muttered before slowly walking out of the alley way.

It took a long while but he found his homeless people at last, he had to sneak onto a roof to be able to get close enough to hear them talking, but he seemed to catch what they were saying. They were bundled together like they feared if they parted they would be picked off by a predator, and they kept mentioning a creeping shadow and how they had to stick together or it would kill them next. So the homeless seemed to know what was happening while the ones that weren't homeless had no clue so far. The civilians were to busy worrying about getting Watanabe elected to worry about the murder of homeless people, a bit sad really. Then once again the feeling hit him the stalking feeling this time hitting him harder then ever, as if it was peering down on him right now. He reached into his pouch on instinct grabbed a kunai and turned around swinging it. He sliced through nothing but air, but the feeling enough was enough to cause him to pant out of fear as sweat dripped from his head. He looked around the roof and no one was there to look at him, so he put the kunai away and decided he got enough information. He descended from the roof and made his way back to their rendezvous point, making his way into the house, he saw that he was the first one back. So he took a breather and rested against the wall to try and calm his nerves.[/fieldbox]

Toshi wiped his hands off on a rag at his side, leaving ink covering the entire piece of cloth before he looked back to his nearly completed work.

In front of the Genin lay an assortment of scrolls, each with freshly written seals about them and the occasional accidental smudge here and there. If he had to rate his work in comparison to his others... Well it was about the average for him, handwriting was alright and his strokes were fine but he just never seemed to have enough room on the scrolls to store all that he wanted. With the thought lingering in his mind he looked up at the top of the tent and took note that he should try and find a large scroll in the future. For now he would just have to make due.

"Alright, that's done all that I need now is to get the equipment." he said to himself as he stood and made his way out the door. Stopping to place a note on the tent flap that read "Super Secret Shinobi Stuff, Do Not Touch" he grinned at the stupidity of the note and hoped that the pure idiocy would keep any sane soldiers from going anywhere near a tent labeled with such a note.

A Little Later

Toshi found himself exhausted and out of luck after trying nearly every smith in the camp, none were willing to allow him to resupply at their tents for fear of running out of equipment for the others and he couldn't figure out why, they had plenty of stuff just laying around after all. But what really bother him was the fact that his request had been so.... modest.
- 50 Kunai
- 50 Shuriken
- 1 Umbrella
- 500 Senbon
- 2 Fuma Shuriken
- 3 Spools of Wire Strings
- 2 Sickles
- 2.4 Meter Chain
- 1 Shield

'Very reasonable.' he thought as he walked along the outskirts of the camp. It was still busy on the outer edge of the tents but it wasn't so crowded that he had to worry about being noticed by a group of soldiers and he enjoyed that aspect. As he walked he kept an eye out for any other Shinobi that may have been able to help him out with his equipment acquisition when he noticed a large group of carriages unloading crates and barrels of goods.

Deciding there was no harm in checking, Toshi made his way over to the carts and started talking to the closest person, "So what's going on here?" he said as he gave the soldier a slight nudge to get his attention.

The soldier turned and glared with a hint of disgust when he noticed Toshi's forehead protector on his arm but answered the question anyway, "Shipment just came in. Food, clothing, weapons, pretty much anything we needed that was requested was given to us in the highest quantity they could manage back home." the soldier shrugged and kept idly watching as the carts were unloaded.

Toshi perked up at the mention of weapons and asked the soldier another question, "Any sort of heavy equipment come out, like say... Chains?". The soldier sighed and looked at the Shinobi, "Yeah chains came out... Look I'm not a quartermaster or anything so why don't you just go look for yourself, nobody is stopping you. It's all being distributed out later tonight."

Grinning Toshi thanked the soldier and leapt into the closest wagon and cracked open one of the crates.

In just under ten minutes, the Genin had managed to procure all the items on his list as well as the okay from the wagon workers to take it for his own and was merrily working back in his tent. Attaching explosive tags to kunai and going about the tedious job of loading and arming the umbrella without killing himself, Toshi hummed a short tune that didn't quite make any real musical sense and began to seal away the items in their scrolls.

Standing up with a newly filled jacket of scrolls, Toshi cursed himself as he remembered that he should have tried to find a large scroll at the wagons, "Next time I guess...", and with that he stepped out of the tent taking the sign off the flap as he did so.[/fieldbox]

Harumi Uchiha,

| ANBU | Akinian Empire | Keishi, South of the city centre |

It had been easier than expected. Harumi had wondered how the last part of the plan would go : the transport of the captured stranger. Luckily it seemed that the combined paper release technique with the sealings that would form a sealing formula was quite well against the unknown shapeshifter. As she waited for the arrival of members of the ANBU squad Harumi had checked the surrounding once more. She wasn't much interested in just why the unknown shapeshifter had chosen this place, but also a possible trace on how. Perhaps that the odd technique had a limitation on the range? Or that somehow some preparations had occurred before to allow the shapeshifter to teleport to this location in case it would have been cornered? Possible scenarios were going through Harumi's head. Before taking their newest captive back to their base of operations Harumi ordered the send ANBU to track and search the place. No signs of preparations were found. Leading thus to the hypothesis that the technique had a possible limitation on the range. Which could perhaps explain how the shapeshifter had managed to escape Team 7 after its ambush.

Taking the captive back Harumi did check on her gear. The whole fight had also gone as planned. With the information gained from the Nimatsu's team, Harumi had drafted up several manners in how the shapeshifter could perhaps be taken down. Chakra drainers were a rarity, but the report on that physical damage was also not something that deterred them was a new one. It had made Harumi consider on placing a bet on that the defensive capabilities wouldn't count for the person the shapeshifter was in contact with. The shapeshifter had, after all, moved away when the Hyuuga on Team 7 had manifested chakra. With her abilities it had been quite the 'blast' for the shapeshifter, yet while it would've mortally wounded a person the shapeshifter showed remarkable endurance. Was it even human, Harumi wondered on their way back.

With such a dangerous and mysterious captive Harumi decided to put half the ANBU she had at her disposal to guard and watch over the sealed captive. After orders were dealt and followed a member brought out a report of Team 7's last call for help. Harumi had frowned as she wondered what the team was up to. Wasn't their objective not to pick up the remaining member and get going home? Already irritated Harumi heard the report out. It was apparently about that they indeed had picked up the missing genin, but were on the track of an 'Other'. One of those creatures who was captured before during the clan meeting in Keishi.
Somewhat intrigued in learning more was, however, a hope that would be dashed in pretty fast. Apparently before the operative could read the mind of the 'freshly' deceased Other it turned out that the attack of Kensuke had damaged the brain too much that they could only get some weird slivers of information from it. Nothing that was productive for their operation in the city.

Softly cursing the Nimatsu for the blunder Harumi wondered about something. It was clear that she needed more operatives to keep running at each objective without the fear that they were not able to cover all the gaps. Dealing the order that the two ANBU operatives that were trailing Karma should head back Harumi decided that she would need a brief chit-chat with another guest of theirs.

The door closed and he shot up. His breathing started to become irregular as the darkness didn't vanish. It was something that seemed to stay.
"Who goes there?" He asked, his voice hoarse and shaky.
No reply would be returned or even any sound he could detect. At times like these, he would use his Byakugan to spot the person coming into the dark room, but the contraption around his neck made that impossible. It was something that was also the cause for his fears as he couldn't mould any chakra. Something that seemed so natural was just gone. It was as if he had never been taught how to use ninjutsu or activate his dojutsu.

"P-Please.." He whimpered, a warm sensation rolling down his cheeks. The silence started to chew at his sanity, slowly just doing something to his sanity.
"Please, what?" A soft, warm and friendly voice spoke back.
"I don-don't want to suf-suffer, p-please," Ezuri begged, sobbing. He wasn't sure if he should take comfort in hearing that it wasn't Kensuke or Hideki. Then again, what if this was going to be his end?
"Then you won't." The comfortable feminine voice said. "I want answers, though."
"I-I will tell you everything, I p-promise!" Ezuri instantly reacted.
It became silent and Ezuri wasn't sure if he was alone again. Twisting his head there was no light or sign of anything he could uncover from the darkness. As his lips parted a sharp pain would drill into his skull.

Watching the Hyuuga suffer wasn't why Harumi was being in the room. The masked man behind the Hyuuga had his right hand on top of the boy's head to use his mind-reading technique. While he had explained that Ezuri would suffer some 'discomfort' by forcefully rushing through the memories on the search for what they wanted Harumi had shrugged. The boy was a goner, anyway. Missing-nin weren't accepted back unless the Jounin commander had different thoughts on the person. A shame that it didn't count for Ezuri this time as the orders to disregard the Imperial law to get any information out of Ezuri to progress their was taken without any hesitation by the ANBU.

Eventually, the ANBU behind Ezuri released the boy's head. Shaking his head, he spoke up to Harumi. "Sorry, but nothing that I could discover about the shapeshifter, ma'am." Just nodding Harumi threw a look at Ezuri. The boy had a bag over his head, but she had a different idea.
"We will perhaps need some bait. I figure that he can do without one of his precious eyes. Make preparations for a replacement." She ordered. Another ANBU in the room would cough, but nod. Turning around on her heels Harumi already thought on her next move while preparations were made to give Ezuri a certain 'treatment'.

[fieldbox=The Adventures of Gregor - Part II, lightsalmon]

Rini Yoto
Amegakure Genin | Team 15 | Amegakure, home.

She couldn't help but wonder. After hearing Gregor's story she wondered how it was. To be lost, growing frustrated to the point of no longer be capable of being counted sane due to losing so much and then somehow able to find yourself. It made her think if she was close to becoming crazy for what she had lost not too long ago. Picking her pillow from behind her Rini placed it against her stomach as she lowered her eyes.
"How did... you..." She whispered, finding it confusing and frustrating to even ask it.

Gregor remained silent. He had told her how he had become crazy after losing his wife and child. His child had died due to the diseases and the fact that they had not been on time to treat them. Which his wife had left him as it was just too much to stay with Gregor after the loss. The man glanced at Rini with some pity. "I don't really know. I did a lot of crazy and stupid things. Guess I was trying to find my way in the most absurd manner. Worked for a lot of shady and sketchy people before I realised what I was becoming." The man would briefly glance at the ceiling. "It isn't easy to find your goal and path. But you're still young. Just don't be too harsh on yourself and give yourself some time. Sometimes that is all we need. Some... time."

Rini just nodded as she thought about his words. Time. Was that she needed? Does time get through her loss? What she desired back? It made her feel only more lost than knowing how to cope with the emotions that came up with just thinking about her parents. Thinking about her family she thought about Itsuo. Where was he? Was he doing okay?
"I want to go outside." She said, suddenly as she would throw a look at Gregor. "I-Is that allowed?" For a moment she was worried that the large man would say no. Much to her surprise, however, Gregor frowned and answered back.
"I don't think it was ever illegal to take a walk, was it?" He joked.
A smile would touch Rini's lips as she would hop off her bed.

[fieldbox="Gavin Otonari, plum"]
Kumogakuri ANBU | In Ranzaki

Blending in a crowd was easy especially when you didn't look like yourself and, with a little touch of chakra, didn't sound like yourself. He doubted if anyone outside the ANBU corps even knew his actual voice. Well his family knew, of course, but they had seen him grow up so that was different. He wasn't one to converse with stranger much because generally there was honestly no need. The man at the grocery store back home must know, he thought absentmindedly, because we was around there once every week. Maybe the lady of the ramen and fried rice tent which was on the corner of the street where he lived remembered him. He was a rather well paying customer after all.

But no one in Ranzaki could know that Gavin Otonari, the Silent Hunter, was moving about them on the streets. And they would hopefully never find out.

It didn't take long for Gavin to find his first target location. A bar. Bars were places of gossip, of drunk talk, of rumors. He would start his investigation in a couple of them before moving on to the backalleys of the city. With a small smile he wondered how Niota was getting on in the brothels. She honestly hadn't seem pleased and Gavin could understand that in some way. But then again, it was nothing more than a job and if she couldn't handle it then she wasn't cut out to be an ANBU.

He pushed open the door of a rather well off looking establishment called The Gilded Ox and stepped into the mass of people inside. Most of them were seated at square tables that were positioned in a seemingly random fashion through the room. For those unfortunate enough to visit the establishment alone there was a bar with a few high seats where you could enjoy some drinks and possibly some food. A couple of waiters moved about between the people, handing out drinks and placing down food. No one looked up when Gavin entered as most of the people were either engrossed in their consumptions or in their conversational partner.

He sat himself down on one of the chairs at the bar next to a nice looking fellow in a green tunic. He shot him a smile and then beckonned the bartender over to order a drink. A beer appeared in his hands not long after and Gavin took an appreciative gulp of it. He let out a sigh and placed the glass down. He shot a look around the establishment again as if he was just checking it out. White walls, art decorating it, all of it had something to do with oxes for some reason. He guessed it was in the name. Nice simple looking windows. The place just looked neat. The shelves behind the bar were lined with nice looking strong drinks. The colors of the bottles shimmered in the lights hanging above them.

The man next to him was giving him another look as Gavin folded his hands around his glass. He was clearly waiting for someone or multiple someones. Those were the best to talk to because they wanted something to keep them occupied until whoever they were waiting for showed up.

"How d'ye do?" Gavin said, shooting the man a tooty smile. For a moment his eyes shot to the mirror that hung behind the bar to check his smile in the reflection.

The man snorted. "I'm good," he said.

"Hanging around, waiting for some mates?" Gavin asked.

"I guess. Though I am seriously beginning to doubt if they will ever show up." He didn't sound especially annoyed about it.

"That is awful, man. Well you know what they say: a normal friend is always on time, a good one knows how long he can keeps you waiting." Gavin pulled his glass closer. His tone was amused.

The man snorted again. "Never heard that saying, but I guess there is some truth in that. Well they must be happy I consider them good friends then. I have been hanging around for twenty minutes, maybe more."

"Oh, these must be good friends," Gavin said shooting the man an impressed look.

"They're good mates. They just have a terrible time being... on time." The man turned towards him to keep the conversation going.

Gavin chuckled. "Well you are doing better than me. My friend couldn't go because of some "urgent" matter." He made some quote signs in the air as he said urgent.

"He ditched you." The man laughed.

"She..." Gavin said wincing.

"Ouch. Tough luck man."

Gavin responded by taking a bit gulp from his drink. "Yeah well, at least I now know that that won't be going any further. Broke off before I could get invested. Positive thinking." He waved his arms around without much enthousiasm.

The man laughed.

They chatted a bit more. Got another drink together. It took ten more minutes for the man's friends to arrive. They all greeted the guy with kindness and excitement and then extended their greetings to Gavin who was quickly introduced to the party that consisted of three people. More beers were ushered around and a card game started, something Gavin personally was a big fan of. He didn't get to play so much anymore, but he enjoyed the little competition nonetheless. Eventually he steered the conversation towards the topic he wanted to talk about. Though the subject of various famous people and their untimely deaths they eventually landed on Keitaro and his father.

"Real tragedy that is," the man who had identified himself as Janon said to Gavin with a couple of slightly intoxicated nods.

"Never would have expected it," another chimed in.

Gavin nodded slowly. "It's awful, but I don't understand what the fuss is about though. I mean with Keitaro and his father out of the picture Shigeko should be ruler. Shigeko is too young so the power should just go to the Lady Regent right?" he said. He sounded confused.

"Yeah, but you know what they say about the Lady Regent," Janon said as he threw another couple of cards down.

"She is preeettttyyy hot. That's what I heard." The guy next to Janon shot Gavin a wink. The men chuckled. Gavin played a pair of sevens.

Janon shook his head in amusement. "I don't know about that. But I know that they say that she has always wanted to rule."

"I heard," the man next to Gavin said, 'that she murdered the Lord herself! With poison!" He grabbed his throat and pretended he was choking.

"I heard something about a whip..."

"Those are just your fantasies man, don't involve us with those. Poison it was!"

The man opposing to Gavin, Yuji, played three queens and with a sigh the man next to him grabbed all the cards and put them in his hands. Yuji shot a look to the rest of the gang. "Well I heard them, heard those bastard over at Mara's shop say that it was the Raikage."

"The Raikage murdered the Lord?" Gavin raised his eyebrows.

"Yeah man, it is like... The Raikage rules Kumogakure, right. So. The Raikage murdered the Lord, put the suspicion on Keitaro to make everyone run around and look for him and now he wants to rule Ranzaki too." Yuji gave Gavin an "I'm very serious because I am drunk" look. "Because this is the greatest city in the world."

"Well it is pretty great, but why didn't he murder Shigeko too?"

"I don't know. Who cares. Shigeko is a weak ass little pussy. He can literally die every second he draws breath." Yuji said before hiding his face in his beer.

"Well I think the Raikage is a great man," Janon said.

"Well I think you should play your cards," Yuji countered.

"Well I think," the third man spoke, "that this whole thing was just a whole big plan of the Earth Country!"

The rest stared at him.

"Why the hell would the Earth Country care about Keitaro?" Yuji deadpanned.

The third man waved his hand around and then pointed to Yuji with his index finger. "They are sneaky bastards. The lot of them. This is how they get back at us! Maybe... maybe they are already around us! This is all a ploy to make us fight over things and then BAM before you know it, Land of Earth troops on your doorsteps demanding that you give them your house. They don't have houses anymore in Iwagakure after all. We all know they are looking for our amazing housebuilding capabilities."

Suffice to say, they all ignored that statement because that was just a stupid statement. Janon played his pair of sixes which Gavin followed up with some eights and time passed as the banter continued. Before long Gavin excused himself, stated he had to leave, and expressed his gratitude for being allowed to join the game. The guys all bid him goodbye, inviting him to join them again sometimes.

Gavin knew he would never see them again.

[fieldbox=Hiraku investigating time]

Hiraku was sure Koike was hiding something about the draining chakra for some reason. Why he would want to hide it, or even that he would try to hide it when he had had Byakugan on at the time and could see evidence saying otherwise, such as his own chakra being drained by it, but it wasn't important for now. He could talk to Koike and ask in private at another time, for now, he had a mission. He put on the blindfold that Koike had given him and activated his Byakugan, beginning to head out into the cold rain. He lowered his head, using it as a chance to tuck himself in closer for a little extra warmth as well as lend to the illusion of his blindness.

Hiraku walked through the streets, feeling the cold biting at him, but starting to get used to it. As he walked, he used his Byakugan to look for information, hoping for anything at all to help out. Is someone watching me...? Hiraku frowned slightly, feeling eyes burning into the back of his head, though Byakugan found nothing of the sort. He turned his head slightly, as if he was trying to listen for something he thought he heard, but was actually trying to cover for the Byakugan blind-spot. Still nothing. He continued on his way, wondering if it was just the constant rain and the murder investigation putting him on edge.

As he continued to walk, Hiraku heard a group of commoners talking about politics. He figured it wasn't particularly necessary to listen in, but it was that or the constant pounding of the rain that he had yet to get totally used to, so he listened in. "Did you hear the police set those shinobi who attacked the post office free?"

"What? What kind of security do they think we have, compared to that post office? They should be locked away permanently, think of what they might do next!"

"Ugh... I know. Ask me, those shinobi all need to be taught a lesson... They think they're all great and can do whatever they want because of their training, but they're just crooks. We can't be letting them off the hook for their crimes like that."

"Hmph... We won't have this problem when Watanabe Robun gets power... He's gonna protect us. I've been telling you we needed to support him since day one."

Hiraku began moving again, knowing it would seem suspicious for him to just stop to listen to this one conversation. The sound of the beating rain came back into focus as he walked, his Byakugan allowing him to glaze over the need to slow down or look around, as it could see nearly 360 degrees. As he walked, he found himself near a group of homeless men, grouped together around a fire in a metal barrel. They seemed worried about something, looking about and generally being careful that their companions were still there. One of them looked deeper into the alley, and gasped, seeming to almost have a panic-attack. "What, what is it?"

"Thought I saw it... Sage protect me, I thought I saw the Creeping Shadow"

"What!? Where?"

The homeless man who thought he saw it pointed down the alley, "Down that way... Just a trick of me mind, I s'pose..."

"Ya better hope so... I don't want nothin' to do with it, and I don't want to be a name on a list in the newspaper tomorrow mornin'."

Hiraku frowned as he walked past, wondering if they already knew about the dead man without chakra or if there was something else going on in these rain-soaked streets. It seemed like a lot was going on in Amegakure, maybe when he got back he should see if he could talk to Kiyomi to see if any help could be sent to Ame. Though he didn't know her that well, he hoped that as the leader of the Hyuuga and the one she had personally endorsed, he would have an easier time getting a chance to talk to her. He also hoped that whatever was going on wouldn't claim any more victims, as- He turned his head suddenly, getting that feeling of being watched again. Maybe whoever it was, was this Creeping Shadow, the homeless men had spoken of. Whoever it was, Hiraku thought about walking back the way he came to hopefully spot something with his Byakugan, when the feeling vanished. He exhaled slowly, he was just being paranoid in this gloomy town.

On his way back to the meeting spot, Hiraku was sure he saw writing in a strange language written in an alley. He investigated somewhat with his Byakugan on the way by, but wouldn't stop, as it would be too suspicious for a blind man to notice writing on a wall, especially if he was being watched as he feared. He made note of where he was, and decided the best option would be to come back at some point and copy the writing down to show to his squad members.

Hiraku walked back into the building, keeping the blindfold on in case anyone decided to follow him, had he missed their gaze with his Byakugan, for any reason. He noticed Kazumo was resting against a wall and went to the wall across from him, "You find anything, Kazumo?"

Yumeji Hojo,
Chuunin and Vanguard member,
In the camp near the Sky-Wolf country border.

She had decided that some time alone would be best. As far one could be alone in a war camp, that was. Yumeji had decided that it was inside a tent, trying to stop thinking about the thoughts that troubled her mind. While she didn't want to admit to anybody the fight with whatever that thing was still troubled her. What had it been? Why was there hadn't been any body afterwards, a corpse that could be investigated or help her realise it had just been a crazy gone man? What on earth could have that been?
Yumeji had already some suggestions that she wanted to dismiss. A demon or something from the netherworld was a possibility, but one that she didn't want to believe. There were no such things as demons, but there were beings like bijuu roaming and troubling the world. Cringing Yumeji squeezed her eyes closed. She didn't want to think about what she had fought, just wanting to prepare for the next mission. Stop making Mizuchi or others worry or being as some mute-gone-person.

Deciding that perhaps a bit of fresh air - regardless of her dislike of going to move among others now - could do some wonders Yumeji would crawl out of the tent. Trying to not become noticed the teen lowered her head by a bit and tried to avoid places where people weren't already too occupied with any occupation. As she walked around Yumeji heard some sounds that she hadn't heard before in the camp.
Curious, Yumeji found herself attracted to the origin of the sounds. Eventually, she saw how waggons being escorted by grim and gloomy figures were moved into the camp. A bit surprised it took the teen a moment to realise what this could possibly be. Only for a moment later to bitterly wonder if this would be the last supplies that they would get before they would be too far into the Wolf country.

Pushing her pessimistic thoughts aside Yumeji overheard from a nearby soldier that letters would be handed out, that was if somebody back home had written them anything. Interested and curious Yumeji would join the group that was wondering if there were any letters for them. Managing to get her letter there wasn't luckily many that were attracted to her name as people seemed to remember and be more acquainted with the nickname she had these days.
With just one letter - as there weren't anymore written and send for her - Yumeji would go back to her tent. Walking at a faster pace than before Yumeji wondered who had written her. Perhaps it was a mixed letter from her parents and possibly siblings. Getting into her tent the teen quickly opened the envelope and pulled out the letter.

"Oh..." Yumeji whispered, her eyes half closing as she realised already who had written her.

"Dear little sister,

I write you from Ranzaki. Overheard that a host was sent to the border of the Wolf country to then march into that troubled land. Can't say that I envy you. Hope that you'll be in good spirits and health when this letter reaches you.
Managed to figure out that you at least would be on the eastern continent. Meanwhile, I have been not that idle here either. If things will go as they are going then I might be looking at a promotion. Captain instead of being only just member of the Daimyo's guard. Not that it is the highest rank, but it is a stepping stone for future promotions. Once you are, however, back we should have a talk.

There are matters that I can't entrust over a letter."

Frowning Yumeji was confused after reading the letter. What matters? What couldn't be entrusted over a letter? Yumeji read the letter once more and then wondered about something else. Why hadn't her parents wrote her? A twinge of envy sparked as she wagered that they were just too busy with her other siblings. Wanting to reduce the letter to shreds Yumeji decided to put it back into the torn open envelope. Getting up she decided she would release her frustration over a good training session.

[fieldbox=Can you hear them?]
Siblings, mentors and mothers calling out,
Can you hear them?

A collab made by Sketching and Gerontis

Summary :
Katsu does his rounds but feels like he is being watched and followed. Reporting back to Koike over the earphone communicator it seems that there isn't anything wrong and just being the tension of being on high alert. Soon enough, however, Katsu meets and sees his old mentor - who is dead for some time. Soon enough he is facing a foe like none other he has encountered before.

[spoili]
As the rain poured down, Katsu walked atop one of the rooftops, wearing a long, obviously too big rain coat that went all the way down to his knees. He hummed a cheerful tone that hardly fit with the dark ominous weather that loomed over the city. He came to an abrupt halt and turned his head under his hood, looking back cautiously. He straightened his back and shrugged, turning back around. The young boy turned around the same corner for the second time during his lap. And again, he saw the same scene, the same homeless taking shelter under the same rooflet. As he moved forward, he continued humming, glancing to the busier parts of the city from time to time.

An eerie whispering sound seemed to pass the Uchiha for a moment, making some vague promise in a foreign tongue. A dreadful cold would accompany the words, heralding an ominous threat with the words.

Katsu swiftly turned around, but saw nothing. He stared intently, trying to pick something out from his sight, but to no avail. He brought his hand up to his communicator, but hesitated. After a few moments of pressing the button, he let go without saying anything. "I can't call him from his post just cuz I'm jumpy," the boy thought to himself.

Once more the cold returned with the foreign prhasing. The air itself seemed to become heavier, as if some unknown presence was making it harder to breathe and move around. This time the whispering seemed to be more than one voice. A couple started to whisper and resonate through the head of Katsu, still speaking in a language that wasn't only foreign anymore but with the amount of different voices speaking impossible to understand what it wanted from him.

The boy bit his lower lip as he reached for the transmitter again. "I think someone's coming," he said with an uneasy voice. "I'm ready to call you over."
A moment would pass without a response. The earphone communicator would crack softly, heralding a reply. "Someone's coming?" Koike repeated, "Just stay calm, Katsu. Stay on patrol and if something goes south then call me in. Over."

Lowering his hand, Katsu could see why that would sound ridiculous. He brought his hands together and let out a small pulse of chakra to see if there was any genjutsu affecting him, but feeling no change, he lowered his hands again. He continued his round, lowering his hood further before dropping down a ledge.
For a short time the whispers seemed to have stopped, as if the source was worried that Katsu would indeed get company of his comrade. Only as Katsu would continue his patrol they returned. This time becoming more intense than before. It almost seemed as if they were waged a battle to gain the upper control to convey the confusing message to Katsu. The cold started to become more present as a breeze seemed to somehow have find its way through the alley, meeting Katsu at the front.

As the cold breeze brushed past him, Katsu pressed something onto his cheek. He brought his hand back down and stared forward. He shut his eyes for a moment, pressing his hand on his temple before staring forward again.

The whispers started to become softer as a shadow seemed to become visible at the end of the alley. The mysterious shadow just seemed to stare at Katsu as the whispers seemed to become one voice. The foreign voice started to shift, the words becoming clear and audible for Katsu to follow them. "Come with me." There was no threat to the words or any hostility. The cold did become more intense, as if it was trying to pull Katsu to move forward to the unknown person.

The boy stared for a moment. "Who are you?" he called out.

Another ice cold breeze seemed to originate from the direction of the stranger before the words would be formed inside the mind of Katsu. "Friend." The voice said in a confident manner. "Come with me. I am a friend." The voice slowly seemed to morph into a more masculine voice. One of Katsu's past, a person that had been quite close to the boy. "We don't have much time anymore. Come."

The young nin's eyes opened wide. After a moment's contemplation, he ran after the man. "Who... Who are you?! What's your name?" He seemed more than a little desperate as he pursued the mysterious figure.

The figure seemed to stay at a fixed distance as Katsu started to run. The old man's voice of the past started to speak up again, this time no breeze heralding a second message. "A friend, Katsu. We don't have much time, please." The right arm of the stranger was raised by a bit as the person seemed to turn and stay at the fixed distance, moving further into the alley. The cold seemed to turn into a pleasant warmth, promising security and comfort instead of the cold hostility of before.

A smile creapt up the young boy's lips as the air got nicer. He could feel the familiar presence, not just in voice. "Where are we going? Please, wait for me!"

The person seemed to stop for a moment, leaning forward. Before the person seemed to jump into a manhole, it twisted its upper body to throw a look as if it wanted to be sure that Katsu was still following. The distance didn't seem to be fixed anymore. "Somewhere safe." The voice said before the person would jump into the manhole. Even as the person vanished the voice continued to speak inside Katsu's mind, blocking out another voice. "We don't have much time, come Katsu."

"I'm coming!" Katsu followed the man to the manhole. He jumped right after, landing inside as well. He looked around as he continued running. "Wh... Where'd you go?"

The warmth seemed to become more present, pushing away the discomfort that one had to suffer from the dreadful rain that reigned supreme as weather in Amegakure. The shadow would move into view of Katsu, seeming shorter than before. Once more the right hand would move up as the person was clothed in a dark robe. Moving the hood back the face of an old man was revealed. The wrinkled face seemed to be eyeing Katsu before nodding. "No worries. We have to get going. Much has to be done." Half turning around, the man gestured Katsu to follow him. "Come, we must save them." The voice said, though a faint sound seemed to be coming from the background, trying to get Katsu's attention.

"I-I can't leave... I don't--"

"Katsu, do you copy, over? Respond, gods damnit."

"We have to go, now Katsu. Before it is too late to save your sister."

Katsu's eyes opened wide. He sprinted to the man, grabbing the cloth. "What happened to my sister?!" The old mentor of the Uchiha frowned and a sad expression flowed over his face. Placing a hand on Katsu's shoulder, the pleasant warmth started to spread over the body of the boy. Pushing away the voice from the voice communicator away. This time the lips of the man moved as he spoke back. "There is no time to explain now, we---"

As the man started to talk, Katsu's grasp tightened. Suddenly, a small burning scent could be heard for a brief moment before Katsu went up in flames, creating an enormous explosion.

Smoke and dust would be whipped out as a figure would be slammed only a moment out of the cloud. Slammed against the wall as the trembling of the ground and ceiling started to cease, the old man's appearance were torn. There were pieces of wrinkled skin visible, but where one would expect blood and bones were black scales forming a sort of armour. A soft hiss orginated from the weird man as he struggled to get up.

Some wirring would be heard around the armoured figure. The water splashed lightly as several wires whipped around the figure and squeezed the joints all around the man. Katsu's voice echoed in the sewers. "How stupid do you think I am?" He stood upside down at the top of the cylindrical sewers with a small cut on his hand, placed on the stone.

The armoured figure slowly twisted his head, throwing a look over his shoulder as the wires made it hard to move. Another voice echoed as well into the shadows, stepping out of the shadow. "Okay, someone was coming." Koike mumbled, eyeing the strange figure in front of them. A dark blue hue danced around the edge of a tanto held in the fist of the Hon. Suddenly the wires would be pulled with a strength that seemed to be that of two adult men as the stranger started to move, trying to cause Katsu stumle while he would move.

"This is good with me." The pleasant warmth vanished as the intense cold returned, starting to grip and clinge to the two comrades being present. Whispers started to resonate in their mind, becoming slowly louder.

"Wha--" Not expecting such strength, Katsu stumbled forward, loosening the wires for a second before he swung his arms back to tighten them again. Just as they were about to contact the man, he leapt up, getting out of the way. "Shit!" Katsu's eyes turned red as the wires retreated to his wrist and he tossed two knives from under his long sleeves at openings in the armor.

The knives would hit their mark, but bounced off against the armour. Landing on his feet the stranger rolled with his shoulders. The skin and robes seemed to vanish as dark scales seemed to turn and make them vanish, completing the obsidian coloured armour. Half closing his eyes, Koike spread his feet by a bit. "What can you notice?" Koike asked Katsu, keeping his own eyes focused on their foe. The armoured stranger seemed to give them a moment, his right hand on his left shoulder, still rolling it. A sickening sound echoed through the sewer as the stranger cracked his neck.

"I'm not sure if he can use ninjutsu of any kind, but he used something to affect my senses earlier, though I'm almost sure it isn't genjutsu," he said. "So keep your head in the battle. He was tricking my clone, but didn't know I was there, so since I saw it too, I doubt it was a simple trick; he turned into someone I used to know. I'd suggest we assume he knows quite a bit about us." He glared at the man and continued. "There's a weird chakra surrounding him. It might be best if we try to kill him instead of taking him alive..."

"That sounds odd." Koike grumbled, wondering what kind of ability could produce something that seemed more like what he could consider a genjutsu. Trusting Katsu, however, Koike would flip the tanto into a reversed grip. "Capturing him can bring out some interesting answers, though." Koike thought out loud. The armoured figure lowered his hands, clearly waiting for what the two would do. "Okay, I am going to try to create an opening. Try to disable his movements. Improvise afterwards." The Hon mumbled to Katsu, just before he would dash towards the armoured figure. Readying the tanto, the dark blue seemed to spread all over the blade of the weapon, producing a hissing sound just before Koike would move in with a streak of fierce and short slashes.
The armoured figure would move back, however, it seemed that the chakra - that extended with the slashes - didn't even get near the obsidian armour. The grace and agility of which their opponent moved seemed also surreal with how heavy the armour did look like.

"Understood." Katsu disappeared to the man behind Koike. After the armoured figure dodged the attacks, while Koike's arm moved back between slashes, Katsu appeared, rolling on Koike's back with his own, filled the short period of time the armoured figure would have had, throwing four knives at the figure's joints.

The foe tried to move to the side, but the knives slammed against the joints. Nothing that seemed to hinder their foe, a chuckle followed as the stranger moved with a quick skid backwards from the two. Koike would flip the tanto back into a normal grip. He had hoped to create an opening with his attacks, but clearly something was going on that he couldn't detect. A familiar sensation moved down his left arm to his finger tips. Cursing in his mind the bad timing, Koike grumbled. "Okay, lets see how it will try to survive if we aim to kill. Ready?" Koike asked, running this time chakra over the edge of the tanto. Moulding it different he would wait a moment before moving once more to close in the distance with their opponent, this time aiming to not attack their foe directly, but lashing out at the ground to whip up dust and debris to make it near impossible for their opponent to notice what they would be doing.

After a few moments, Katsu rushed at the figure, throwing knives as he emerged from the dust. He quickly followed up up close, dashing with a sword in hand, slashing at the figure's knees.

The sharp steel would land against the knee, but didn't seem to bother the unknown opponent. A sharp, annoying sound resonated as the steel edge would move over the protective kneecap. As Katsu had lashed out the opponent would pull a long, crude looking dagger. Before the opponent could attack back, his attention was demanded from a new attack as out of the cloud of dust a tanto was thrown. Stepping to the side to avoid the attack completely the opponent managed to see a chain attached to the butt of the tanto.

As the armored figure moved away from Koike's attack, Katsu rushed forward again, moving low under the chain before jumping up and kicking off the breastplate. As he moved back to the other side of the chain, smoke spread just behind him, hiding him from sight.

The armoured figure stumbled backwards due to the action of the Uchiha. Able to keep his balance there was a loud hiss sounding from the armoured foe. Looking at the smoke the helmet made it clear that the armoured figure was trying to figure out something. The tanto was pulled by the chain back, into the cover of the smoke created by Katsu. Only for a moment later to move out of the smoke, this time moving low and aimed to wrap around one of the foe's legs. Instead of moving away the armoured figure seemed to allow it, just looking down at the tanto wrapping the chain around his right leg.

Katsu skidded to a halt and pulled out a couple of knives, looking for an opening. As he waited, ready to lunge forward, he thought back to the brief clashes they had. Something felt off; they weren't able to get even a dent in.

The loud hiss was produced once more as the armoured figure leaned forward. His free hand stretched out and grabbed the chain. "What the---" Koike grumbled, but as his eyes widened he felt a strong tug. Much stronger than he had anticipated. Falling on his stomach, he felt how he was dragged a meter over the ground before he released the chain. The armoured figure now started to swing the end of the chain around, waiting for a chance to lash out with its newly aqcuired weapon at either of the two shinobi.

The younger nin grumbled. "Koike, what's the plan?" he asked, staring at the man with knives in one hand and his tanto in the other. "As if it wasn't enough that this guy could drain chakra... But we can't even lay a scratch on him."

As the smoke was slowly coming down Koike replied back to Katsu. "Yeah, seems like he has no damn weak spot." The older nin grumbled, quite discontent. Not wanting to believe, however, that their opponent was some invincible figure Koike narrowed his eyes. Watching the chain being wielded and the loud hiss being once more produced by the figure Koike gritted his teeth. Just before he could utter another word the armoured figure would lift his leg to remove the chain and tanto in an agile movement. "Can't either let him get away."
Running forwards, Koike came to a halt as the chain almost slammed against him. As the metal chain passed him, Koike slammed a foot down on it to prevent it from further being swung around. Leaving an opening for Katsu to initate the offensive once more.

Katsu rushed in right after, throwing the knives towards the helmet. He moved closer with his sword gripped tightly with both hands, his red eyes looking for any counter attacks that may come his way. The knives creating thuds as they bounced off against the helmet. The armoured figure turned back to the two nin as a deafening screech would fill the air before the armoured figure started to run, clearly intending to get away.

Surprised, Katsu recoiled, covering one ear with one hand. He glanced back at Koike for a moment. "What's he..." He looked at his friend for directions, unsure as to what to do.

Groaning as his ears still rang after the screech Koike tried to move forwards. Managing to keep his balance he shook his head. Taking a moment to recompose after the odd sound release of the armoured figure Koike would pick up the tanto, manefesting some chakra into the weapon which saw the chain rolling back into the handle. "Can't let him get away, let's go." Starting to run they would be able to see something up ahead. No longer perhaps an armoured figure, but a man in a hooded rain coat was climbing up to move out of the sewers. Running as fast as he could Koike considered to use a technique to perhaps slow their target down. Only to remember how his previous chakra attacks hadn't even reached their foe. "Shit."

The exit of the sewer was luckily not out into the public. In an alley the two nin would be able to spot the fleeing target as it climbed against a wall upwards. "You go directly after him. I will try to flank him, okay?" Koike said, throwing a look at his friend.

"Got it!" Katsu ran up the lower wall quickly, grabbing on to the wall with his chakra for the first few steps before reaching up to a windowsill and grabbing on to give him some more momentum. He reached the flat roof, moving on top and drawing his knives at the same moment. "He was dodging earlier too... Perhaps..." He tossed the knives up and tossed more at the figure from inside his jacket.

The figure turned to face the direction of Katsu. Standing still the figure didn't seem bothered as the knives simply bounced off from the figure. Same as before whispers started in Katsu's mind. Starting to become louder as the figure flexed his fingers. The voices became louder, starting to shout as the figure started to walk towards Katsu as the temperature started to drop as the stranger would walk towards the younger nin.

Gritting his teeth, Katsu grabbed the knives he'd tossed up earlier and threw them at the figure as well. "Ugh..." He started counting in his head to distract his thoughts as he pulled out his sword, waiting for his friend to arrive as well, feeling the urge to drop the blade with the dark air around them, but his grip only tightened.

"Kat! Run!"

A voice sounded louder than the others. As the knives would keep bouncing off the figure the other voices seemed to faint away as a more feminine could be heard. "Kat! Please! Stop!" The familiar voice of Katsu's sibling sounded desperate. Raising the dagger towards the young teen the figure whispered something as once more Katsu would hear his sister, screaming for help.

Katsu remained stunned for a brief while as the figure moved towards him. He snapped back to reality with a rage filled visage. His eyes turned red once more, reversing his grip on his sword. He charged at the figure, the wind boost scattering the water behind him. He tapped off the ground, jumping up and swinging the sword at the dagger.
In a rapid movement the figure moved with the attack of the Uchiha, the steel sword's edge briefly sliding against the dagger. Moving in a much more nimble manner the figure would lash out with the dagger, intending to stab the Uchiha into his chest as the shouting voice continued in Katsu's head.
The young nin landed on the other side of the man after the jump, barely making it in time to parry the stab. As the figure's sword holding arm moved forward with the stabbing motion, Katsu swung his sword at the wrist, keeping his growingly angry eyes on the unknown opponent.
The manouvre of Katsu would cause the figure to glance for a second at his wrist as the sword of Katsu would slam against the wrist, but doing no visible damage. Pulling his weapon back the figure would attempt to kick the Uchiha back as a low growl sounded from out of the hooded figure. "Always, you have always, been a disappointment." The voice rang through Katsu's mind.
"880... 873..." Katsu saw the kick coming, but hardly expected it to be as fast as it was. It kicked the air out of his lungs and sent him rolling back. The sword flew out of his hand, sliding to a stop on the edge of the roof top. The boy balanced himself, quickly pulling out two knives and breathing in as if preparing a wind attack, but instead, simply shot forward again with a slightly redder visage.

He tossed the knives up and lowered his body, grabbing his sword, charging at the figure.

The figure remained standing still as the voices stopped. Flexing the fingers of his free hand the figure would keep a close watch of Katsu's movement. As the figure was about to attack the young teen a force would slam the wrist of his hand that held the dagger aside.
Right after shoving away the wrist Koike's tanto was already moving over his left hand. Slamming the tanto straight against the head of the opponent, he felt a vibration going through his arm - as if he had hit a rock instead of a face. "Damnit, not even a dent." Koike thought to himself as he couldn't even spot any damage on the face of the man.

Katsu leapt up high with a wind boost, grabbing the one of the two knives out of the air with his hand and throwing it, and kicking the other one with the back of his foot down at the hooded figure. As he was starting to land, he swung the sword in hand towards the arm holding the dagger.

The knives didn't do any damage, as before, but it gave Koike a moment to quickly step backwards as the eyes of the figure shot to Katsu's direction. But as they fell and Koike noticed that the figure was distracted the Hon would act. With Katsu lashing out to the arm holding the dagger of their opponent Koike would lean forwards, making a quick roll. Grabbing one of the knives with his free hand the Hon would attempt to slam the knife in the back of the hostile's right knee.

Two loud thuds resonated through the air as both attacks seemed to do nothing. A loud hiss would be produced as the figure attempted to lash out at Katsu with the dagger while the free hand of the figure reached out to grab Koike.

In a reflex, Katsu bent his back low, letting the dagger swing over him. He quickly leaned forward, keeping his knees bent. He shot one foot at the hooded figure's ankle, trying to make him lose balance.
Koike's eyes widened as he tried to move away, but was a moment too late. Feeling the cold grip at his arm Koike would freeze. An alien feeling creeped through his arm and through his body as he watched what happened in a slow-motion, but didn't feel as if he was suddenly being faster in mind or sight. The figure kept a tight grip on the Hon as it hissed at Katsu, managing to land his kick. Staggering the figure attempted to lash out and drive the younger nin away.
Katsu swung his sword to parry the attack, falling on his back to get out of its reach. The strength of the hooded figure's swing was barely slowed, and only moved slightly, creating a crack on the ground next to him as the blade wizzed past his face. The young nin brought his knees close to his chest and pushed them out violently at the back of the figure's knees.
A surprised or something at least similar sound was produced by the figure before it would slam on its back. The dagger fell on the ground and for a moment a confused situation came to exist as the creature still didn't let go of Koike, who was restrained by the movement and seemed to be suffering some confused state. The figure twisted its head to Katsu's direction before it would start to claw at the Uchiha in order to grab the nin by the arm.
The young nin stared at the figure's persistence in shock. He gritted his teeth and tried to scurry away but as just as he tried to get up, with a jolt of pain going through his body, he found himself rolling on the ground, blood gushing out of the gashes on his upper arm. "Aaaah!" He wailed, grasping his arm tight as he tried to push himself to his feet, his sword laying on the ground beside him.
The creature froze suddenly just before it tried to release Koike in order to pursue Katsu. Suddenly it started to hiss as it released Koike and attempted to get away. The latter managed to grab a hold on the figure and the confused expression of Koike shifted into a desperate one. "No, you won't!" He grumbled, grabbing the figure with both hands at his free arm. In a clumsy way they got up as the figure managed to kick Koike back, causing the young man to roll towards the edge. Turning to Katsu the figure spoke in a strange tongue.
A fearful look appeared on Katsu's eyes as the creature moved towards him. Upon seeing Koike trying to keep the figure back, Katsu grabbed his sword, wincing as he moved back, pushing himself to his feet. He felt hatred, anger, and fear, wanting to jump in and attack, as well as turn around and run. Katsu inched closer to the edge as well, holding his sword tightly, as if trying to crush the hilt. He glanced over at Koike with a worried look just as he felt his foot reach the end of the roof.

The strange figure seemed to shout something at Katsu as the voice started again. Koike scrambled up on his feet as he shouted something at Katsu, but his voice wouldn't get through the desperate sounding voices that would trouble Katsu's mind. Just before the specialised jounin could get up and reach the two the figure would turn and run to the nearby edge. Jumping over the edge the figure disappeared out of sight. Getting to the edge quickly Koike looked down, but couldn't see the figure anymore. His face colour was pale and his pupils were wide as a cold shiver moved over his back. "Fuck, no." He groaned, his hands shooting up to the temple of his head.

As the creature disappeared off into the distance instead of killing them when it would be easiest, Katsu felt his weight shake back and forth. He fell to his knees, grunting, his back bent, his hand grasping the exposed part of his other arm, where blood was still pouring out. He gritted his teeth, trying to hold in any tears. As he raised his head up, only the red veins around his green eyes would indicate his crying. After a few moments, the boy took a deep, stuttering breath before looking over to Koike. "Are... Are you alright?"

The other shook his head, still throwing looks over the edge. "We need to find that guy back. Gods damnit!" Koike bite his lower lip as he started to pace back and forth. Eventually he seemed to realise that they had lost the figure. "Did you also hear that? You know, when contact was made?" Koike asked, turning towards Katsu. His right hand was still trembling as Koike suddenly shook his head instead of waiting for Katsu's reply. "No, you couldn't have. Or did you? Did you hear her? Did you?" He asked Katsu, starting to pace back and forth once more.

"I... I don't..." His voice trailed off. He shook his head and sniffled. "I didn't hear anything in the end. I... I heard Aiko-san and my sister earlier on... and..." He paused for a moment before rubbing his eyes with his right index finger and thumb. "We... We should get out of the open," he said. "If he changes his mind and comes back, we might not survive long a second round."

"You heard..." Koike slowly repeated, raising his left hand to rub his forehead as he pondered about something. "I heard my mother." He kept staring down at his own feet and right hand as if he wasn't truly sure if he was certain. A nervous laugh escaped Koike as he looked back at Katsu. "I met her once and then she wasn't even alive. Just ... a ghost of some kind." He said, making a vague gesture as if that would help Katsu to understand what he meant. "Only once and that was enough to scare the chakra out of me for a moment. But I swear..." He lowered his left hand and looked at both his trembling hands as another nervous laugh escaped him. "I heard her. Saw her for a second when I made contact. I just tried to drain chakra back when I realised that whatever... or who... you know tried to leech my chakra." Becoming silent Koike seemed only to realise what Katsu had said and how his friend was doing after pacing once more back and forth.

"Yeah and get some rest. I... I think we could use some sleep." Trying to make his hands stop trembling Koike would shove them into the pockets of his coat. "Some sleep will do good..." After those words said Koike would activate his earphone communicator to dispatch the orders that the others should finish their patrol and that they would regroup back at the starting position to move together back to the barracks.

Team 2 Genin | On the Mission

Aya and Shin seemed to get on with the plan, transformed themselves and moved in. Nami stayed where she was keeping an eye out. If she concentrated well her sensing was much better then if she working in the mean time so this was perfect. Her senses stretched out as she followed her teammember's chakra signatures as well as keeping an eye out for other strange things.

In the beginning everything seemed normal. Shin and Aya were opening boxes without breaking cover, but didn't seem to find anything. The other guards didn't seem to think anything was off so that was good too. Maybe there was nothing here after all. That would be good news.

But then Aya came back with distrubing news and Nami called Shin back too. As their male teammember joined them Aya relayed the information about what she find. Nami frowned. Why would they hide a dead body in crates there were coming in to the city? If anything you would want to get the body out. There was nothing you could do with them here and bringing them could only give more chances to be discovered.

"We should let Hayashi-sensei know," Nami said quietly before looking to Aya. "Are you okay? You look very pale." It was not so much direct concern for the welbeing of her friend, but also that if Aya decided to go and faint in any way that would be highly inconvenient. "Take some deep breaths and if it doesn't go away you might want to sit down." With that said she looked back searching for Hayashi's chakra signarture. "I say we go back to Hayashi sensei and inform her of what we found. I think I know the way. Unless there is more you guys want to do here?"

A collab between Lesli and Jason

Summary: Taishiro's day starts like any other, with him heading out for an early morning workout. Only for him to soon discover his house on fire, and meeting a kind woman named Nina who saved his father from the blaze...

"I'm gonna go try to get a workout, Father. I'll be back in about an hour. Is there anything I need to pick up while I'm out?" the boy called out to his father, waiting until he heard a faint response. "No. Be safe, Taishiro. I'd hate to hear you got injured before even being assigned to a team." came his father's response. The boy nodded in acknowledgement before heading out the door. Taking care to lock it behind him before following his usual path towards the training fields where he would go nearly every morning. It took him a few minutes to reach the fields, but it was a nice walk in the morning. Taishiro quite liked these walks, it was peaceful and for a time he could forget about the troubles at him. With father being sick, and Taishiro needing to provide for the two of them.

Upon arriving at the fields, Taishiro took a quick look around and was pleased to see that his usual field of choice was empty. The field was nothing particularly special, just a clearing with the occsional foliage on the perimeter. But the boy quite liked it, as it was a bit out of the way of the other fields. As such, he was often able to train alone without bothering any others. Stepping onto the field, he decided it smart to start off by stretching a bit, then setting to a warmup consisting of push-ups and sit-ups. Another few minutes would pass before he finished the warm-ups. As he got to his feet, the boy tried to figure out what he would work on today.

In the distance faint shouts and screams would pierce through the air. A small line of dark grey smoke started to drift up in the air. Coming from the direction where Taishiro's home was located.

As the faint screams pierced the morning air, Taishiro felt chills rundown his back as he spun around towards the direction the sound came from. Are we under att- the boy's thoughts were suddenly come off as he froze and stared for a few seconds towards the smoke slowly rising into the sky. Smoke, coming from the direction of his house. "F-father!" he shouted before taking off in a dead sprint, trying to reach his home as quick as he could, and praying that either he was wrong about where it was... or that he wouldn't be too late.

When the boy would arrive at the scene more people were moving to the scene. Curious, afraid and cautious expressions were visible on faces as a large fire was visible. There were already various chains formed to quickly bring water to the spot to try to fight the fire, which seemed to be put up quite a fight. Various shinobi were even moving to the location, but were forced to be careful with their water technique in order to not cause too much damage against the raging fire.

Arriving at the scene of the roaring fire, Taishiro almost rushed into the building to try to find his father. Only for a sickly voice to call over to him from behind. "Taishiro..." The voice called, to which the boy spun around to see his father standing there and leaning heavily on his cane. "Father! You're ok!" the boy exclaimed and rushed over, hugging the man tightly for a second. "How did you make it out? What happened? Are you hurt at all?" the boy said in flurry of questions to his father. The man simply shook his head as looked down at his son. "No, I am doing alright. At least, I am not injured. It pains me to see our home like this, but the important part is that we are both okay. As for how I got out.." the man said before his speech was interrupted by a series of coughs. "Sorry. But I was pulled out by that the kind woman over there." he said and held a shaky hand up to point at a woman sitting with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. "I'll be right back then. I want to thank her." the boy said with a small smile, before heading over to the woman.

"Uhm... excuse me Miss. My father told me you pulled him out of the house when the fire broke out. I-I wanted to thank you for doing that, I don't know what I would have done if I had lost father. If there is anything I can do to repay you, please let me know." he said, watching the woman with a small smile. He was truly thankful to her, as she had saved his last remaining family from a terrible fate.

Staring at how people worked together, both civilians and a few present shinobi, were attempting to fight the fire the woman that had a blanket wrapped around her shoulder seemed to be not aware that somebody spoke to her. Only a moment later the woman did blink several times as she twisted her head to throw a look at Taishiro. Realising what the boy just had told her the woman flashed a warm smile. "You're welcome." Throwing a look at the house the warm smile vanished. "Sorry about your home. Doesn't seem that you guys will be able to move back with this much damage done..." her voice trailed off, clearly sorry for the boy and his father as the fire seemed to be unstoppable as it continued to rage on despite the determined attempts of those fighting against it.

Casting a look towards the burning house, Taishiro couldn't help but feel a pang on sadness at seeing his childhood home burn. "Well. At least my father is okay. A house, that can be replaced. I am not sure a human life can do the same. he said, remembering something he had heard around the time his mother died. A single tear ran its way down his face before he turned back to the woman. "But thank you, really. I can't express how much I am grateful for you saving his life." he said with a forced, pained smile. A little bit of the guilt for not being home whenever the house had caught fire eatting away at him. "Father said you came in as the fire started. Do you have any idea what caused it?"

Nodding as she clearly seemed to ponder on to say something positive the woman remained silent. As Taishiro thanked her once more the woman turned her attention back to the boy, clearly intending to state that he shouldn't keep thanking her for what she considered only normal. A frown would appear on her brow as he asked for the origin of the fire. "No. I saw some smoke during my walk as I was intending to visit my own parents. Not that I was intending to just get inside, but there was a lot of smoke coming from a few windows that worried me. When I went to the door I noticed that it was open. Knocked, but nobody was answering after I also called out." The woman seemed to be more sorry as she lowered her eyes. "Then I ran inside as I was worried if there would be any children or people inside that could use some help."

Taishiro's eyes went wide when she mentioned the door being open. "I know for a fact I closed, and locked that door this morning." he said quickly, wondering why the hell it would be open. "Father can't usually get out of bed on his own... why was the door open?" he said, now confused at the whole situation. Then seemed to realize he was rambling in front of the woman. "Sorry, I just... I am sure I locked the door when I left today. Still, thank you for bothering to check on it. I know of a decent amount who wouldn't bother to check a burning house for anybody inside." He said to her.

Throwing a look back at Taishiro, the woman seemed to waver as the boy grew confused. When he seemed to recompose himself somewhat the woman nodded. "I think that you would've done the same if you were in my shoes." Another smile would be flashed as the woman threw a look back at the house. "Weird things are happening all over the city these days. Know what?" She threw a sideways look at Taishiro, clearly eyeing him as she seemed to consider something. "Your father is ill and you both won't have a place to stay? I know a friend who has an orphanage. Perhaps I can arrange a place for the both of you there. Just for the time being, of course."

"I would have done the same, yes. Need to help out others, else we aren't much better than those who seek to hurt them." he said quietly, then heard her offer about the orphanage. "Well... I don't want to put your friend out, running an orphanage sounds like a lot of work. Unsure if having an extra one, and his sickly father around would be fair. I mean, I appreciate the offer and would certainly like a place to stay for the time being, but I don't want to be a burden on anybody." the boy said quickly, wondering why she was being so nice and helpful to them.

"You don't seem like extra work." The woman stated. "Besides, unless you know of any other place for your father to take a rest before you two can move back in I doubt that my friend will be against it. But it is up to you." Rising up the woman kept her eyes locked on the fire, but would remain silent for a moment. "Just think about it. I will notify my friend tomorrow. His place is called 'Tetsu's Haven'. Called after his passed away son." The woman whispered the last comment, shaking her head lightly. "Sorry, I should be going. Hope for the best of you and your father."

She had a point, and Taishiro knew it. They simply didn't have another place to stay, and this offer might be their best bet. "There isn't..." he muttered to himself before speaking up to the woman. "I think we might need to take you up on that offer. For now. We don't exactly have any place to stay for now." he said and gestured towards the burning house. "Thank you, Miss..." he began before realizing he didn't have anything to call her by. "Thank you for being so kind." he said, as she said that she should likely get going.

"Nina." The woman said, flashing one more time her smile. "And no problem. Was taught that good deeds repay themselves in time. Take care." The woman glanced in the direction of where she had seen Taishiro's father before nodding to the boy and deciding to start walking. Keeping the blanket tight around her shoulder she seemed to head away from those who were intending to prevent the flames from spreading over to the nearby buildings.

Giving her a small smile, the boy nodded. "You take care as well, Miss Nina." he said, watching her walk away briefly before heading back over to his father. "She was very nice. She even said she might know of a place for us to stay, at least we can move back in." the boy said to his father.

Ryu Uchiha | Amegakure Team 11 Genin | Amegakure

The faint voices roused the girl from her slumber, her eye shooting open at the sounds. Voices, at the dead of night and inside the house? Something was not right. The girl reached slowly into her bag and felt cold metal pressing against her palm as she closed her hand around the kunai knife. Slowly getting to her feet, the girl shivered slightly at the oppressing cold present all around her. Creeping quietly out of her room, Ryu attempted to move silently down the hall to see if she could find the source of the voices. Yet no matter how far she moved, the voices held their faint tone: sounding as if they were eternally calling to her from a great distance. After getting about halfway down the hall, Ryu paused as she noticed nothing had changed with the voices. Perhaps she was just imagining the voices? It was pretty obvious from this point that there wasn't anybody in the house, besides those who should've been here. With that, the girl decided to turn and head back towards her room as she reminded herself that she was just being paranoid, and that there certainly wasn't anything lurking in the dark. She shook her head to try to clear her thoughts, wondering what Eiji would've thought if he found out she had been up like this. Then she froze completely, back ramrod straight and eye wide.

Ryu suddenly felt a warm liquid seeping around her foot, a small splashing sound reaching her ears as she seemed to step in something that felt sticky, yet slippery on the wooden floor.

"What the he-" she began to mutter, only to be interrupted as the light in the hall suddenly flashed on. It appeared that she was no longer alone, she had alerted whatever was here with her. Looking straight ahead, she briefly noticed the outline of a figure before it closed the door, the one that led to Eiji's room no less. Ryu let out a small gasp as she noticed the deep crimson liquid tracing a path to that door. Frantically, she surged forward, basically charging the door that was just shy of being fully closed.

The faint voices seemed to clear up, becoming one voice. Though what it was saying still remained unclear to the girl.

As it slammed open, the Uchiha was greeted by a violent scene. The room bathed in eerie shadows by the lone light that managed to stay on, the walls were splattered with a deep crimson and evidence of a struggle stood out in the light. Just at the edge of the light, Ryu noticed the outline of two... bodies laying on the floor. Panic flooded through her veins as she noticed the red hair atop of the larger of the two. Ryu stood frozen in horror, unable to move as she felt her whole body quaking with fear at the sight.

Portions of words from the voice now reached Ryu's mind, as if coming over a faulty radio reciever. "...ill -im." An endless loop racing through her mind as she tried to figure out what happened.

A loud pounding that tore through the dreadful silence shook the girl from her stupor, as she jumped and spun towards where she had came from. Somebody was trying to break in, but why? Somebody had already been here, and now Eiji was dead. The unmistakeable sound of a door being smashed in caused the girl to jump once more, as she moved down the hall. Keeping against the wall so she could the surprise on whoever had broken into the house. Only to relax as a familiar voice rang through the house. "Ryu, Eiji-Sensei? Are you alright?" he said, concern in his voice. The girl stepped out into the open hallway, looking at her boyfriend with a wide-eyed look of fear. "N... n-not safe." she muttered as the boy's head tilted to the side with a confused look.

Like a floodgate shattering, the voice finally broke through into Ryu's mind. The crazed, screaming force flooding over the girl's mind. Everything else washed away in a flood of shrieking. "KILL HIM! KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL HIM! SUFFER!" The voice roared, on a loop as Ryu fell to her knees screaming.

John rushed forward, as if to check on Ryu, yet nothing seemed to reach the girl. All seemed to go numb beyond the voice in her head, and her ear-splitting scream. Suddenly, a girl exploded forwards from where Ryu was, tackling Johnathon to the ground, a kunai gripped tightly in her hand. Ryu couldn't do anything except watch in horror as the other girl attacked her boyfriend; as she seemed unable to move. The other girl giggled excitedly as the Kunai was brought crashing down into John repeatedly as his face contorted in pain. The girl couldn't do a thing, she had no control, and despite her desperate pleas; the other continued her relentless attack. Manic laughter now tearing from her mouth, as the girl clearly had the time of her life.

Standing up from the newly made corpse, the girl stood up and took Ryu's hand. Leading the girl down the hall as she stared in absolute horror at John's body. The silence of their walk was occsionally interrupted by eerie giggiling from the other. "Why? Stop it whoever you are! Let me go! Why did you kill him!" she shouted, desperately pleading to no longer be a prisoner of this terrible girl. "Whyyyyyyyy? Didn't we have so much fun? Kill, kill, kill, kill! Make them suffer!" the voice spoke in response, its tone unsteady and clearly unhinged with a bloodlust Ryu had never seen before. Making their way into the bathroom, the other turned Ryu towards the mirror. Looking into the mirror, Ryu froze as she saw no other presence with her. Rather, she saw a creepily beautiful version of herself staring back at her. Confidence evident in her stance as a sly smile lay on her lips, red dots covering her from the blood of her victims. "St-st-stop it! I don't understand! Let me go! I'm not like you!" she cried out, trying to pull away from the mirror, yet unable to move once more.

The reflection simply giggled and began moving on her own, as the voice in the back of Ryu's mind began humming a disturbing, yet familar tune. "Don't you see, this is who you really are." The reflection said, though it sounded as if the words were being whispered into her ear. Then the hand emerged from the mirror to caress Ryu's face, as the tune registered within her mind. Memories of her childhood, ones which Ryu had long ago locked away flooded freely into her mind. Then, as if freeing herself from some barrier the reflection surged out of the mirror, into like some ghost began flowing into Ryu's body as she screamed an recoiled.

Her eye shot open as a shriek of absolute terror tore through the still night. The silence that had previously been holding in still in the house shattered by the sound of the horrified girl.

In the midst of her panic, after having quieted her scream, Ryu scrambled from where she lay. No effort was made to keep silence as she tore from her room to the bathroom she remembered from what seemed mere moments ago. As her heartbeat pounded in her chest, the girl had to grip the counter tightly to keep herself from collapsing on her shaky legs. Her eye searching her features frantically as if searching for some sign of the terrible thing that had been there. The memories of what had been here, and what it had reminded her of tore through her mind still. Tears flowed freely down her face as she stared straight ahead, reliving events from her younger years. Demons she had somehow blocked away now surging to the forefront of her mind, things she did not want to remember. Yet they came anyways, and she was scared. Thinking back to Tadashi's journal, which she had been reading earlier that very day to try to understand why her father was the man he was, Ryu recalled the entry about her. How she was developing well, and the growing lust for blood that she shared with him. She had thought it just the mad ravings of a man far gone...

But what if he was right? Studying her reflection, the girl asked in an unsteady voice.
"Who am I?"

Summary :
After the teams of her group are back and done, gaining more information Aiko decides to see if she can have a meeting with Eiji. Managing to arrange one she discusses several matters with him as well introducing him to a few parts of her next planned actions. She also requests some information from him in order to better prepare her next actions.

[spoili]

It had taken some effort in order to get an appointment with the Amekage's assistant. Certainly when using a profile that wasn't really well known or even real, but Aiko was keen on keeping the low profile intact of herself and the group. The fewer people knew about their presence in Amegakure, the better. At least, that was her opinion about it. Certainly after what they had managed to gather so far. With the disguise she had managed to compose, a mix of clothes and a bit of using the Transformation technique, she was allowed to enter the office of Eiji Emiya. Approaching the door Aiko wondered for a second what Eiji would think of the information that they had gathered so far and if he would approve her plans of approach. She could just go to work without his or Hoshi's consent, but that would make things only much harder.

Entering the office, Aiko would close the door behind her. The transformation and disguise would reveal a woman around her thirties with blonde hair, reaching for her shoulders and blue eyes. Placing her right gloved hand on her chest a playful smile would creep on Aiko's lips. "Reporting for duty, sir." She half-joked, dropping her fist as she was certain he would recognise her voice regardless of her current appearance. "I hope that I am not bothering you on a most important and busy time."

"There is literally no time right now when I am not busy," Eiji said sighing. He had taken up work at his office today just because there were so many people that wanted to talk to him. He couldn't let them come to his house after all. That would be a mess. So he had been sitting behind his old desk again and had listened to people talk, complain, argue, all the while trying to work on his own paperwork. The world suddenly had gone crazy and Eiji's wasn't so sure if he was capable of handling it. Yet he had managed so far. "But no, you are not bothering me. I could use a break, but then again I doubt that you are here to offer me one." He pushed his chair back ever so slightly and gestured for her to take a seat.

"Go ahead."

Taking a few more steps towards the desk of Eiji, she shook her head. While having little to no experience what it meant to be in such a position she had a general good idea - in her opinion - thanks to the fact that Zakito was most of the day gone with working behind a desk. "Wish I could, but I am afraid that you're going to get it busier. Then again, I could provide some help with taking away some... headaches." The woman said, flashing a friendly smile for a moment. Becoming more serious Aiko weighted the words she would say afterwards. "First of all, I will need to request a lot of information. Profiles, information, zipped information that one can't access easily," she started to sum up, "I only got some names and what people discuss on the street. Not to mention the few corpses that I 'donated' to the police as we haven't been able to figure out who has been able to suck the chakra out of homeless people. Not sure if Amegakure ever was forced to deal with a chakra leech?" Deciding to wait to see what he had to say, Aiko took another moment to throw a look around. She had somehow expected it less tidy and organised. A bit more carefree, which would suit the image she had of Eiji.

"It was wishful thinking anyway," Eiji said when Aiko stated that she wasn't here to offer her a break. He cracked his neck once as he listened to Aiko speak. Taking away headaches was always a good thing, but honestly he doubted she was going to do that if she continued speaking. So far everything about this mess was just tiring him out more. There was so much to deal with in the office and then there was the whole deal at his home and his students. Somewhere he longed back to the days when it was just him in the house with Sachi.

And Samaki.

He forced himself to listen to Aiko and as she posed her question he frowned. "Not in my time. That is as far as I know and you know how it is with details on missions. Everything is on a need to know basis in the shinobi world. However, if Amegakure has dealt with one before it must be in the records. I haven't come across one before though. And you can get your information. Just tell me which files you need and I'll have them ready for you."

Nodding as she indeed know all too well how it was, she wasn't too surprised that there was no known case. Chakra leeches weren't common. You came across one in stories and some rumours, but one in the flesh? The woman briefly remembered the revelation she had not all too long about Koike, making her hope that this whole mess wouldn't reveal the young man's secret. An ironic thought came up as she rather wished him to be a jinchuriki than a chakra drainer - seeing that you could always shove the blame on the Bijuu than something that was really a part of you since birth. "Great. I will need the profiles and documents on various people. Already took the liberity to write down a list for you." She produced a small note from her pocket. Placing on Eiji's desk and shoving it towards him she continued. "The person I am most interest is Sho Deshuga and Kona Omari. I heard from sources that they were released from the police station without much of a reason given to the public. Which is odd, seeing the situation they were met when the police approached the occupied post-office." Aiko's right eyebrow slightly moved up.

"Then there is also something else that we will need to discuss. Cause if I am correct, we're dealing with potential moles in various corps and organisations. Which will make it hard to figure out where the insurgents are hiding. Not to mention the Zealots, who have proven to be quite good in hiding from previous encounters with Imperial operatives."

Eiji took up the list and shot a quick glance at the names. With some of them he was familiar, with some of them he was not. Sho Deshuga was on it and Aiko expressed some keen interest in the boy. It was indeed strange that he had been released from the police station so quickly where as Kuni had to stay. "If you give me a second," Eiji said as he stood up and walked to to the door. He opened the thing and had a quick conversation with the guard outside. Handing him the note, Eiji closed the door again. "Files should be here soon." He walked back as she kept talking. He didn't like what she said. Hearing about moles in his system was not something he liked. Commanding a force that was largely built of shinobi meant that trust was an important part. Loyalty and trust. Defecting was not really a good option for any shinobi, but it could happen and it was more difficult to hide as a shinobi than it was for a normal man without any significant powers.

"How have you arrived at that conclusion?" Eiji asked, hoping somewhere that he could refute the theory even though he knew he couldn't. Aiko wasn't one to tell him something without a clear reason. If she didn't have any proof then she probably wouldn't share this theory.

Waiting Aiko was for a moment wondering what Eiji was going to do. Hearing that the files should be here soon made her smile once more for a moment. Much like Eiji she was hoping for a break, but she wouldn't be able to find one as long as she was in Amegakure for a purpose. As Eiji asked his question Aiko wouldn't let him wait long for an answer. "I have to read the files to be certain, but one of the rumours stated that both mister Deshuga and miss Omari were released while they did something illegal. Think that the law is clear on that abuse isn't accepted in any situation." She said, making a short hands gesture. "Then there is the whole location. It is so odd. The post-office isn't a renowned or an immense popular spot. Yet it was being attacked, which meant that there was some reason behind it. Taken together with the fact that two teens that could easily be accussed of abuse have been released, think that we can be confident that some people have decided it is time to act." Pausing for another second, a question rose up in Aiko's mind. "Have you by any chance noticed any unrest or discontent among the people when the Akinian Empire was formed? Or perhaps when Ryoku made the Rain become a part of the Fire Union several years ago?"

"Abuse isn't accepted though. But that depends on if the police officiers thought it was abuse or if it was self defense. I haven't read the official reports from the police, but as far as I understand it some of the people there claim that they were fighting to protect others and themselves. If that is true or not, I can't tell so far. Still, your point is valid. They could have been easily accused of abuse." Eiji wondered about Kuni. He had plans to visit her later this afternoon seeing as she was still being held. Every time he wanted to go though he was forced back to work. It was frustrating him. Somewhere he felt he held the power to say that he was leaving now, and yet on the otherside he felt like he didn't have that power at all. It was his duty to serve his city so he had to place his own needs aside.

"Unrest or discontent," he continued. "There always is when change happens. Ryoku's ideas were rather radical and I am still not sure if I agree with all of the ideas that he had and excecuted. Yet, I don't think there was a massive objections. For most of us nothing changed after all. Though I can't imagine Soru's allies would be happy to hear it. Besides that I honestly don't think there was much of an issues."

She had already expected that. Knowing from experience that people weren't always happy about changes Aiko considered her plans once more. She didn't ever met or know Ryoku personally, but had heard only good things about the man. "That is only for the better. Honestly, I wouldn't like to be around if there would be a large discontent aimed at the current realm we all are part off." Aiko said, considering something else. "Then again, it does seem that the culprits behind the attacks and discontent are also outside the military. It might be possible that certain elements of the society would support this chaos."

The last was nothing more but a thought spoken out loud. A bit frustrated that she wasn't able to pin point out where the unrest and trouble was coming from while she was send to check if Amegakure was safe enough for Kiyomi. Shaking her head, a sigh escaped the thin lips of the woman. "I will try to see what more I can uncover, though I do have to state that I will need some aid. My group has discovered who... or rather, what are the causes of those corpses that are completely drained from chakra." Aiko said. "From what we know is that there are certain people that seem to be impervious for physical harm and can absorb chakra. A student of mine did manage to land what seemed to be damage, but how this occured and work is something that we haven't been able to uncover."

"I don't think anyone appreciates unrest in the current realm. It is still very much finding its new ways. We might consider ourselves lucky that it has been this stable early on." Eiji said. Honestly, it had amazed him how relatively easy the new set up of the Akinian Empire had gone. People despised change, hell, he despised it himself. Never going back to Iwagakure had always been frustrating, but you learned to live with it somehow.

As Aiko kept talking Eiji's frown increased. "Chakra leechers...?" he mumbled surprised. That was a strange and rare talent that he wasn't sure he liked. It was not fair to judge people from what abilities they possessed, but... There was an unnatural thing about them. The rest of the information didn't make it much better. "Aid you can get. Just let me know what you need and I'll see if I can fix it for you. I want this solved..." As his voice trailed off there was a knock on the door. After a short 'enter' from Eiji, a shinobi entered who held a couple of files in his hands. He set them down on the desk, bowed, and left the office again.

Nodding to confirm that she agreed Aiko twisted her head to throw a sideways look at the door. As a shinobi entered with the files Aiko felt a bit of distrust. Without being sure who was with or against them wasn't a great feeling and it brought back up memories of times she didn't want to remember. Waiting a second after the shinobi had left Aiko flashed a smile towards Eiji. "Great. I could use sensors and sealers in partciular. How we can hunt these leechers is something I have yet to figure out, but at least their presence is no longer unknown for us." Remembering something else Aiko would lower her head as she produced a note from her pocket.

"I almost forgot to give you this. A message came this morning from Konohagakure. It was through secretive channels, I am sure you can understand the necessity for that." Aiko half-lied as she would reach out and offer the note which would hold the list that Team 7 had uncovered from Keishi. The list with names of people and with some 'information' with those names which wasn't very cheerful.

Eiji raised his eyebrows as she offered him the piece of paper. Slightly concerned he took it from her hands and folded it open. For a minute he was silently going over the list, his eyes going back and forth between certain names as if he was trying to figure something out. Why was he the first name on this list? was the first question that popped into his mind. Of all the people who are on here he was not the most dangerous one around. Sure he wouldn't say that he was weak, running a small country did mean he had some say in the matter, but names like Hisoka Uchiha and Zakito Hon would be way more logical to take out first. Or... Or maybe not. Thinking about it more Eiji realized that maybe it was the other way around. He was the weak link here, the potential for whoever wrote this list to get somewhere within the Empire. Ame was weak now without its leadership. It was open for an attack and an attack had happened. It couldn't be coincidence that his name was now on the top of this.

His eyes passed over to Kensuke Nimatsu's name who was apparently wanted alive. Eiji didn't know the Nimatsu's relationship with the Empress but from this list he could only guess that they were pretty close. More surprsing was Sho's name. The Chuunin wasn't very special in his own right, but he guessed that his father was once again to blame for the boy's misfortune.

"Thank you for informing me. If it is okay, I will share this information with my Jounin Commander as well. I feel like she has a right to know that someone is after her life. Though then again that might be normal in this line of work."

The eyebrows of Aiko perked up by a bit. She didn't like the jounin commander of the province, but she understood that the woman was perhaps trusted by Eiji. "I figure it sadly is with our work. There is also the fact that one of us has to request some more operatives to be send to deal with the unrest if it will keep growing. I honestly don't know what to think of the list as it had been recovered in Keishi by another team during a small raid. Seems somehow quite sloppy to hide and cover a list as this one in a basement." Raising her right hand to scratch her neck, Aiko let out a tired sigh. The current developments promised nothing more than more work for everybody. As if she hadn't enough to worry about. "I know that meddling in politics also might not be a good idea. But I do hope you will allow me to follow and perhaps even question them. We already have heard the name 'Watanabe Robun' being dropped." Aiko said. "Of course, nobody will be hurt during the questioning."

"Sloppy as it might be they know quite a lot of names. I could understand the idea of a fake if it concerned just famous names like Lord Uchiha or Lord Hon, but considering that there are names on here I have never heard of and the name of such a person as Sho Deshuga who is not at all well known even in the city makes me think that this might be something more. Then again there are those who make good fakes." Eiji watched her as she sighed and shared her feeling. There was this tiredness that settled in your bones when dealing too long with mysteries like this. "As I said, you can have access to everything you need from us. Just say the word and I'll see if I can get it done. And while I do hope that nobody gets hurt during the questioning I'd rather see a couple of bruises and results then flowers and rainbows."

A playful smile dawned on Aiko's lips after hearing the last words of Eiji. "Consider it done. If there aren't anymore requests then I suppose that I should go and check on my team. I am planning to run some more patrols and will keep you informed, of course." The woman replied back to Eiji. For a moment she felt a bit guilty. While she felt mentally exhausted by the growing list of tasks that she was needed to take care off before being able to go home Aiko reckoned that Eiji had it much worse than anybody else in the city. He was now responsible, which would make people either praise him when things would go great. Or be cursed and degraded when things would go foul.

"I appreciate that. Though I get so much information every hour of the day now I wonder how my brain can even remember it all." Eiji rubbed his eyes, but didn't sound too annoyed about it. He had taken up this task willingly and knowing full well how much work it could entail. He just hadn't realized that weight that so much responsibility was so heavy. He wondered how men like Zakito Hon and Hisoka Uchiha kept their heads high when ruling over an Empire. "Let's hope the next information will be good..."

Half turning around Aiko threw a worried look at Eiji. She wanted to promise that the next information would be good, that she would take care of it somehow or something to cheer him a bit up. Being, however, long enough in the vocation that they both had she knew better. Such promises would only lead to more disappointment. Taking the files from Eiji's desk, Aiko spoke in a softer tone. "Let's hope, yeah." Bowing her head slightly towards Eiji before she would start to walk away. Hope, she was hoping that they could keep doing that.

After her talk with Eiji Aiko would take up contact once more with her squad. She was mostly worried about Katsu and Koike. The two managed to act cool and calm, but her mother's instinct was telling her that they were hanging barely in the balance. Sad fact was that she needed the two in the field. The others weren't as experienced as Katsu and Koike. While she had wondered several times if she was biased Aiko realised that was stupid. It was a fact.

With more patrols following after the meeting as Aiko did consider it wise to study the files and information that Eiji had arranged for her, before heading off on another assignment, she was staying up till late. In the living room she was reading the files on the couch with just a candle to shed a bit of light.

As the hours were growing late and the night becoming darker Aiko forgot how late it was. Her desire to go back home was her drive to study the files and formulate a plan on how to use the information for their mission. Only a shout that pierced through the soothing silence made Aiko frown. Her head twisted as she threw a look at the direction from where it came. Worried and alerted the jounin would close and place the files on the couch. Leaning towards the candle she hesitated for a second. Half closing her eyes Aiko would rise up from the couch.

Taking some steps while not making a sound the jounin would sink into the shadows as she would just take a quick look in what was going on. As she would move through the darkness in the shadows Aiko noticed that a door went open. Slowly and quietly Kei would appear in the darkness. The small girl looked around for a second and then sneaked. Aiko was about to apprehend her daughter and make her go back to bed, but she noticed that Kei was heading towards another door. One that seemed already open as the light made it clear that the origin of the scream had came from that room.

The small girl pushed the door further open and Aiko noticed a shift in the girl's facial expression. The calm expression shifted into what one could consider a most serious and disapproving expression from a child. Raising her right hand up to her lips the girl would speak out in a hushed, but harsh tone. "Ssshhh! Sleep! No shouting!"

Aiko doubted that it would help as Kei had spoken in Chonobi, but remained in the shadows. Kei seemed to not be willing to hear or even consider what was going on in the room of the person who had shouted as she would close the door. Turning on her heels the girl shook her head as she rubbed her eyes. Without any detour Kei headed back to the room where she was staying, closing the door behind her.
Deciding that she should also get some sleep, Aiko wondered if she should later try to explain to Kei that she should not get out of bed, even if people would scream in the middle of the night. There were, after all, some training sessions planned for tomorrow.

Training posts :

Taijutsu training with Tomiko Hyuuga.

Summary :
Tomiko is taught some taijutsu by Aiko. There is also some brief talk about fear as Tomiko also shows that she feels insecure about how the last assignment went by.
[spoili]

Scratching her neck the jounin would wait outside. The coat she wore protected her against the rain - which was good as that was the function of the garb - but she wondered for a moment if the city and whole province enjoyed a moment when it didn't rain. Placing her train of thoughts on another topic she summed up in her mind what she had to do today. First thing was that she had reserved some time to train with one of the genin of the group. Tomiko Hyuuga, the girl that had thrown daggers with her eyes at Hiraku if she recalled that correctly. Then again, if she had been a nuissance yesterday at the assignment then Koike would've reported that. A sigh escaped the woman as she closed her eyes for a moment. Last night hadn't gone well as she was still struggling with the knowledge she had gained the day before. There was a lot that she had to progress - or at least it felt like that.
Raising her right hand she would briefly massage her forehead, deciding to clear her head to just wait and see what kind of training she would give to the Hyuuga.

Heading just outside the barracks, Tomiko tugged at the poncho as it blew slightly in the wind. Of course, the moment she stepped outside; the girl noticed that it seemed to be raining once again. Would it ever quit, or was the village just eternally raining? With a small sigh she would look around until she spotted the woman she was supposed to meet up with. Feeling a little bit of nerves in her gut, Tomiko thought about just who this woman was. If she were to make herself look a fool in front of the woman, well Tomiko was sure that she'd never see another mission again. Approaching quickly, Tomiko gave a polite bow, then quickly offered a salute seeing as they were on a mission. "Goodmorning, Ma'am. Tomiko reporting in for training, as ordered." she said in a soft tone before falling silent and watching the woman before her.

"On time. Good. Though," Aiko said as she gestured the girl to walk with her, "Let's not bow in public. Or well, there isn't much reason to bow to me." She stated, not hiding her amusement. Walking Aiko remained silent for a moment. "So, what kind of training would you like to receive from me? I must admit that I'm not really capable of helping on all fields, but seeing that you're a genin on this operation, all the preparation we can give you should be welcome." Aiko stated the last, which was more of a thought being made vocal.

Tomiko's cheeks colored briefly from embarrassment at the moment it was pointed out that she shouldn't bow. "Erm... right! Sorry. As for training... I know I need help in Taijutsu, as Ms. Saki and Hayate-Sensei have pointed out. But then yesterday was my first scouting mission, and I fear I may have messed up. Hon-san had decided to bring me back almost immdiately." the girl said briefly as she walked quickly to keep up. "I think whatever might be most relevant to the whole reason we are here might be best. I don't want to let anybody down."

Hayate and Saki. The names that she had heard yesterday from Koike. Perhaps she should request a meeting with the Captain-Commander of the Guardians. Trying to gauge if he knew something about she had learned yesterday. Hearing that the girl wanted taijtusu made Aiko simply nod. "I can help with that. The Taijutsu that is." She said, thinking about the words of the girl. "And perhaps you had. Perhaps he was worried that you were a bit too spooked." The woman stated, shrugging lightly. "If you had made a mess out of it then I assume that Koike would've made it clear he wasn't pleased with your work in the field."

"Well he didn't say that he wasn't pleased with my work. Just said 'not too shabby' and took me back to the barracks. I could've helped more, I'd never forget the weird flux." she said quietly, then thinking about something blurted out suddenly. "Is it normal to get a little scared when it seems you're in danger?" something that had been bothering the girl since yesterday. Was she just a scaredy cat, or is getting a little scared in such a situation normal?

"There you have it. Not too shabby, doesn't sound like you did a bad job." Aiko replied back to Tomiko. As the girl mentioned a weird flux, Aiko decided she would save some questions for later. It was hardly the right time and place to discuss such matters in the open as they were heading to a facility where they had perhaps more privacy. As the girl asked if it was normal to be afraid, Aiko shook her head slightly. "Yes. Everybody is afraid of some things or people. Or else there are fears that just pop up, cause you care about somebody or something that is important for whatever reason. Most will state that it is something bad, but it is a reminder that you're alive. And as long as you can fear something, you can try to fight it." A pause followed Aiko's answer as she let out a soft chuckle. "That was what I was taught, anyways."

"Okay... then I might not be a little scaredy cat. Uhm... before we start working on any taijutsu, I should probably mention that I am extremely unskilled in any form of it... Hiraku's parents didn't want me to do it and get hurt. They were kind of overprotective..." she said quickly, looking down at the ground in embarassment once more. She just hoped that she wouldn't been seen as completely useless in this woman's eyes.

"Oh?" She said, raising her left eyebrow slightly upon hearing the response. Not saying anything else they were heading towards a building where this early in the morning not a lot seemed to be interested in going towards. "I assume that they were overprotective for a good reason." Aiko said, but she didn't have much room to continue explaining what she meant. Arriving at the entrance of the building Aiko spoke with one of the shinobi that was tasked apparently with guarding the entrance. Showing some papers and after a hushed conversation the man glanced at Tomiko and nodded. "Come. I got ourselves a field arranged. Just a plain grass field." The woman said, beckoning Tomiko to follow her through the complex.

"I think they were just overprotective because I'm adopted." Tomiko said with a shrug before looking around the facility they had arrived at, it certainly didn't look like your average training field. At least... Tomiko was used to them being easier to access and all that. No guards. The girl gave a small smile towards the guard when he looked at her before following Aiko through. "Well, hopefully it will at least be dry over there..." she mumbled slightly, not particularly meaning for it to be heard.

"Hm? Oh, if you prefer rain then I can ask the field masters to change it for us." Aiko said, an amused tone resonating through her voice. Walking through the Training Facility she was glad that it wasn't over-complicated. It was clear enough where they had to go to reach the field that was reserved for them. After she showed some papers to a shinobi waiting at the entrance of a door, Aiko gestured for Tomiko to stay with her. They would continue to walk from the halls of the complex into a small field that seemed to be out of place. It was a flat field of grass, such as one could imagine and enjoy at Konohagakure. "Okay, so taijutsu it was? Let us first get started. What do you already know and have you mastered from taijutsu?"

Shaking her head rapidly in response, Tomiko did not want to be in the rain any longer than she had to be. "Please no! The rain isn't very fun to be in all of the time!" she said quickly, following close behind Aiko until they reached the field. "Uhm... I got a book and practiced some basic kata... then Ms. Saki has been trying to teach me. I'm afraid not much beyond some basic kata." she said quietly, scratching the back of her neck.

"Oh." Aiko considered her options. It was at least a start, she figured. Raising her right hand to her neck, she pondered on what would be the best next step as she rubbed her neck "What kind of fighting style have you... Know what?" Lowering her hands, Aiko decided to take a different route. She could ask the girl all the questions, but there was an easier way on how she could learn what the girl could and couldn't do. Next to Aiko water started to gather from the air, starting to form a tangible form. In a moment a water clone was created as the real Aiko would take a few steps away from the clone and Tomiko. "Go ahead. See it as a warming up."

Whispering quietly to herself, Tomiko would attempt to prepare herself. "Please don't embarrass yourself." the girl whispered to herself then approached the clone slowly. This time, making an effort to keep herself calm and keeping a critical eye on the clone. Keeping her distance, the girl would wonder what came next. Would the clone attack, or wait on her?

Before a second would pass the clone suddenly moved. Without any warning the hands were raised as the clone would start it off with a simple left punch - aimed at Tomiko's face- after taking two steps forwards to the Hyuuga girl. The real Aiko observed and would just make notes while her water clone would take the offensive, seeing that Tomiko hadn't taken the initivate to start off with an attack.

When the clone began moving forwards, the girl watched for an attack that came almost immdiately. The girl barely managed to her arms up in time to block the punch, resulting in a weak block that hurt bother her arms and face once the hit connected. However, the girl was not going to give up, and made a move to close the distance even more. She lashed out with a quick right-handed punch towards the clone's gut; hoping to take it by surprise.

The clone stepped backwards and used her right hand to swat the wrist of the extended arm that was aimed to deliver the punch. With this distance a kick wouldn't be effective, so the clone would raise her right knee up to attempt it to hit the girl in the stomach while the clone's hands would remain in a defensive stance for any future punches.

Tomiko spun quickly, aiming to throw a back kick towards the clone's stomach. In the process of the spin she narrowly avoided the knee, creating a sense of confidence only for it to vanish seconds later as her kick when wide to the right and hit air. Letting out a yelp as her momentum carried her forwards, the girl began to lose her balance.
The real Aiko frowned and slightly tilted her head to the right as the water clone just would move with the genin. Only as the girl was starting to lose her balance the right hand of the water clone shot forwards. Not intended as a punch, but as a hard shove to cause the girl to either stumble or fall flat on her face.

It didn't take much from the shove before the girl teetered off her remaning foot and fell flat on the ground. "Long time no see, Mr. Ground" she grumbled before trying to roll to the side and come to her feet, arms raised in preparation for some form of attack.

The water clone would take two steps back and lower her hands by a bit. Aiko scratched her left cheek as she considered something. "Okay. Well, that wasn't as half as bad as I feared it would be." The woman said, raising her right hand to signal Tomiko to not proceed with attacking just yet. "Judging from the fact you tried to land a spinning kick, I assume that you're striving to be the kind of fighter that is light on her feet? Though, why did you turn your back on an enemy this close?"

Lowering her hands slightly, Tomiko turned to look towards Aiko. "The back kick provides more power than a standard one, usually able to stun one by knocking the air from their lungs, staggering them, or if placed correctly knocking an opponent out." she said quickly, recalling exactly what she had read in the book about fighting. "I was aiming to deliver a good blow at a close range where it would be harder on the clone, and easier on me because I'm much shorter."

"Mhm. Good theory. Though, what does the book say about your opponent? I imagine that it does have something clever to say or warn you when you're basically presenting your back to the enemy." Aiko asked, though she didn't mean it as any offense. She could remember a lot of genin that had considered a pivot movement to be helpful or in some way making them seem more competent at close ranged combat.

Her cheeks coloring, Tomiko turned her attention downwards and through the briefly. "I don't know what exactly would work for me. I mean, I can dance and I'm flexible but I'm not sure how to translate that over to fighting.stuff she said, feeling like a total idiot. Again.

"Lets start with remembering that it is never a good idea to turn your back to an opponent. Regardless if they have more or less skill, you're prone to be finished off in one attack. I know for one that a back kick provides more power, but you need to consider the situation." Aiko explained to the genin. "It is hardly of use to attempt a more powerful move if that gets you killed." Pausing for a moment to let the words sink in Aiko considered what the girl told her. A dancer. "Okay, so you dance and consider yourself flexible. Then I will learn you two tricks. The first is nothing really but a basic move, but it is about to match your opponents movement. Something that you need to do when you're dancing, I believe." Aiko gestured to her water clone, who raised her hands up to take a standard stance.

"My clone will just do forward punches and you need to move with only your upper body. Lean away for a punch, then move back but keep an eye out on which fist will be moving towards you. The idea is that you will not exert too much stamina if you just lean away with your upper body and don't make yourself as easily prone for any shove or kick that is aimed to knock you off your balance, when you would go for a full evasive manouvre."

"Okay... yes ma'am." the girl said as she turned to face the clone once more, taking a deep breath she moved closer until she was in range of the clone. Figuring that she should keep an eye on the clone's arms to see when a punch was coming. Almost immdiately, the clone did throw a forward punch, and Tomiko twisted her upper body a bit to let it pass in front of her. A smile grew slightly on her lips as she got ready for the next punch. Only this time, the clone threw it a bit faster and the girl was turn mid-twist and grunted from the impact. The girl allowed herself a furstrated huff as she turned to face the clone once more. Another quick punch, another time the girl was unable to react in time. Such the process continued itself for a few minutes before the girl noticed a slight movement in the clone's upper body just before each punch. Changing her gaze to watch for it, Tomiko readied herself for the next punch to be thrown.

It did not take long, and Tomiko was able to twist her body out of the way successfully and return quickly to her previous position. The next brought the same result as the girl's confidence began to rise once more.

Watching the clone and genin start to do the practice, the real Aiko was more interested in how the girl moved around. The jounin could remember how several genin had managed like Tomiko had done, though she couldn't remember any dancer in the ranks of people that could claim that they were students of her. Or just had experienced a taijutsu lesson. Noticing how the girl was looking for a pattern was quite obvious, as much as it was 'obvious' how the clone's body moved when it was about to move in a punch. Aiko would click with her tongue, causing her clone to stop and step one feet away from the genin. "Very well, then let's move it up a notch."

She gestured to her water clone. "You start to get the hang of just moving away with your upper body. This works with opponents that try to land punches or in some cases swing a weapon. The trickier part is to react back when they try to land an attack. In short, counter-attacking." The woman said. "What I want you to do is to move away and try to pat the clone's shoulder. Do note that this might seem silly, but if you can pat the shoulder quickly then it is just a matter of small movement and you can do all kind of funny stuff. A stab in the side, a punch to the face and more."

The girl nodded to Aiko, turning her attention back towads the clone. "So I need to pat the shoulder? Okay." she said, mostly to herself before readying herself against the clone before her. Focusing in again on the upper body, where she had noticed the movement beforehand, Tomiko waited for the punch to come. She didn't have to wait very long, as a punch was soon thrown towards her. The girl twisted out of the way easy enough, but her body was turned entirely too much for an effective chance at tapping the shoulder. Failing that, the girl returned to the previous stance, and twisted out of the way once more. This time, the girl kept in mind to keep her body from twisting too far and tried to pat the clone on the shoulder. Only to find herself with another failure, as she wasn't quick enough and took a punch right to the side. Causing the girl to yelp slightly in surprise as she stumbled back slightly.

Shaking her head in disappointment at herself, Tomiko returned immdiately to the previous position, locking her gaze on the clone's upper body and preparation for the next punch to come her way. As the upper body twisted, Miko once again twisted out of the way and snapped her arm out as part of the same movement. The girl was rewarded a second later as she made contact with the shoulder, although it came off as more a slap than pat on the clone. A huge grin broke out on her face once more, elated at her success... until the next hit got her square in the exposed gut. "Ow" she mumbled to herself and returned to the starting position she had been using. She would go through many more rounds of this exercise, with varied results between success and taking a hit, though signs of improvment could be seen over the brief time period she was doing the exercise.

Just nodding as answer back to her question, Aiko would remain silent and take a few steps back to allow the genin and the water clone pick up the training. Letting the girl try to find the right manner of adjusting her upper body to evade both an attack and allowing her to try to react back Aiko resulted back into observing the girl. She wondered how the next step would go, but first she had to succeed at this attempt of landing a counter-'pat'. As there was a mixture of failures and successes following each other up, Aiko decided to click with her tongue again. As the water clone took a step back, Aiko threw a look at the girl. "Catch your breath. You're doing fine." The woman stated, which wasn't a complete lie. "Is there something you notice that you're doing wrong or perhaps could do better?"

Taking a step back from the clone, Tomiko took a few breaths before nodding towards Aiko. "Yes Ma'am. First off, I am moving a bit slow when it comes to the counter attack. Most of the hits I was taking were because I was still counter attacking when the punch was thrown. Furthermore, I think the fact I keep returning to the same position isn't helping. I think I should work on those first. Is there anything else that you happened to notice? If you don't mind me asking." she asked, trying to think of everything that she could fix. The girl was getting seriously tired of being terrible taijutsu.

"It is fine. Nobody is great from the start." Aiko replied back on a more casual tone. "As for what I noticed? I notice that you likely won't become incredible at taijutsu for a long time. Even with hard working. Might be just me, but are you afraid when you're close to combat? Or to fight somebody, at all?" Aiko asked, using her left hand to rub her neck. "And no need to come up with any fancy answers or trying to hide feelings. We're not on the job, right now. I am still, honestly, feeling scared whenever I get stuck in close range combat."

The girl bit her lip and nodded slightly as she heard Aiko's question. "Oh... I'm that bad at Taijutsu? As for the being scared... its the being in close combat part. When I can keep my distance and use my bow... I am not as scared." she admitted quietly, a bit embarrassed by the fact that she was scared of fighting somebody. "How do you handle the fear?" she asked.

"Yes, but that is not a surprise I wager. Nor something you should feel bad about. You are making some progression, but that doesn't make you able to go head to head with somebody who has invested more time and gained more experience with taijutsu than you have." Aiko answered. The girl didn't have to wait long for Aiko's answer as the woman briefly looked away. "Everybody has their own manner. Some stuff it away and face it later. Others try to just live it and accept it. You need to figure out what works best for you."

Tomiko nodded as she heard what Aiko had told her. "I don't think that stuffing it away is a good idea for me. I think I need to learn to manage and use it to my advantage." she said softly, mostly to herself as she tried to think a bit on what she should do. "How do you manage it?" she asked Aiko, figuring she might be able to learn how to manage the fear herself after hearing how somebody else did it.

"Using fear to your own advantage?" Aiko repeated on a manner as if she doubted that was possible. The question on how she dealt with it made the pause following her earlier words longer. "I manage by reminding me what is at stake. Fear isn't an emotion that is able to grant you strength or fuel you with more energy unlike what many think it does. It is an emotion that reminds you that you're in mortal danger or being confronted in a manner that terrifies you. It is something I consider as an adviser. One that I am not fond off, but that does remind me of what is at stake. Just not an adviser you want all the time or allowing him to take over. Other than that? I just try to g"

Looking up at Aiko, Tomiko looked confused for a brief second. "Oh. I'd been told different." the girl said quietly before she thought back to the way she sort of froze up every time she got scared. "Though I don't think what I have heard is correct." she said in the ever soft tone as she thought about how she could use fear. Perhaps as an adviser, to keep her on her toes like Aiko? Then she would need to learn how to surpress or at least prevent the fear from taking control.

"Not surprised. Everybody, after all, threats fear differently. Some shun it completely even." Aiko replied. The woman would wait a moment before she would break the silence and the short break. "But I said I would teach you two things regarding taijutsu. One of them is how to try to use your upper body to avoid attacks and how you can use it in your advantage. The next one is a bit trickier." Aiko started, "What you need to do is to mirror the clone's hands. This allows you to react faster on somebody, even if they are armed with short weapons such as knives, while you are unarmed. Today we won't, however, train with any knives or edged weapons but just finishing this training with the hand coordination and mirroring."

Looking up at Aiko, Tomiko nodded slowly as she thought she understood the exercise. "So I just need to mirror the hands? Like copy what it is doing?" she asked, feeling a little silly for having to do so... but figuring it would be better to be sure in the long run. She quietly waited to hear what the woman's response would be, hoping she hadn't just made herself seem like a fool.

"More or less. It is more trying to move them into a same position and around the same height. This allow you to react a bit faster when you're not armed and facing somebody who has a short weapon. I once heard of an old veteran who hadn't any training for a whole decade taking down a mugger armed with two knives using this technique." Aiko said, hoping that the ankedote would bolster the spirit of the girl. Certainly after the brief talk about fear as Aiko wasn't sure if she was even feeling to continue training. Nodding, Aiko would take a step back as her water clone would move into a rather basic stance. The clone's hands were lifted up, as if she was already wielding knives. "The clone will try to lash out, feigning that she has any knives to stab. You need to react with what you learned just a few moments ago to either avoid and 'counter-attack' or to defend yourself. A simple move is to use your hand to follow the movement and slap or even punch the wrist. This won't easily disarm an opponent, but it might force the attack into a direction that won't make you end up bleeding or being hurt."

Nodding, the girl turned back towards the water clone. "Got it." she said quietly to herself, then approached slowly. Raising her arms so she was mirroring the clone's position, Tomiko watched the hands in preparation for the imminate attack. After what seemed an eternity of waiting, Tomiko noticed a small twitch and immdiately twisted her body, using the same motion to reach out and slap the wrist away from her as she was told. Contact was made, and the hand was moved. However, Tomiko immdiately noticed that had there been a bladed weapon, she still would have recieved a wound from the attack. Not quick enough. Faster. She chided herself, going back to the initial position to prepare for the next attack. Only to find she did not have such a luxury, as the clone lashed once more before she was fully prepared. In a brief moment of panic, Tomiko twisted and struck at the wrist once more. Following up the movement by pushing in towards the clone. A movement which seemed to push the arm further away and get her in close. A small smile cracked on her lips before she slowly backed away, knowing that she couldn't repeat such a movment, but had something which worked.

Another twitch, another attack, this time when the girl twisted and lashed out, she struck just behind the wrist in hopes to force the weapon hand to turn away from her. No luck there, she would have been struck once again. A determined look could be seen in the girl's eyes as she continued to repeat the drill, hoping to apply what she learned earlier and get a bit better at this particular skill. Over time, and various small adaptations, Tomiko met mixed success. Though she noticed the more successful attempts seemed to be those where she pushed the arm inwards and away, or when she got inside the strike range. Towards the end, the effort she was putting in seemed fairly obvious with the way the girl seemed to grow slightly more tired sluggish as time wore on.

"Well, not that bad." Aiko said, with a cheerful tone. She had been watching the whole time, making mental notes about the Hyuuga girl. She wasn't the best taijutsu student she had, but she was at least making some progress. Not enough that Aiko would recommend or advise her that she could handle herself in a taijutsu situation against a more experienced user. But at least the woman was certain that Tomiko was getting the hang of it. "Let's call it for today," Aiko said as she raised her left hand and snapped her fingers. Resulting into that her water clone would collapse into harmless water. "Any questions?"

Shaking her head, Tomiko looked up at Aiko once more after the clone returned to a puddle. "Thank you for training me today, ma'am. I learned alot." she said with a polite smile, trying her best to not look as fatigued as she was currently feeling after all of that.

Poison training with Kazumo Sarutobi.

Summary :
Kazumo is taught more about poisonous plants by Aiko. Afterwards Aiko decides that they should relax a bit, but relaxation isn't on the planning when the two are being confronted by a mysterious person who attacks them.

[spoili]
Walking down the hall, Aiko wondered how the operation was going. She had faith in that Koike knew how to handle the current situation and else knew how to proceed without her. Else? She would be contacted on the C channel if there was any need for her or Kazumo to head into the city to give any required aid. For now? She walked through the halls of the Intelligence Division HQ in Amegakure. Granted, it wasn't the HQ of the independent country of the past, but it served to provide a place for Akinian shinobi to request material and equipment that weren't really in use by common soldiers and police forces.

"Should be here." Aiko said on a soft tone. The dull grey walls didn't invoke any cheerful atmosphere into the building, that much was sure. Aiko did sport a faint smile on her lips for another reason. Entering a key that she had been given earlier, she would unlock the door of the room she was told that she could use. Opening the door, Aiko would speak up again. "I figured that if I'm going to help you become more experienced and mixing some new poisons that we should have a proper room to do so." The woman said, holding the door open so that Kazumo could enter the room. It was filled with cabinets that held shelves with pots and other matters that seemed to function to preserve and contain all kind of ingredients. There were of course also tools present, neatly organized and giving the room the impression that the locals that used this room were keen on keeping it clean and tidy.

Being paired with Aiko was very much in his comfort zone than doing patrols with the others, although he had some skeptisim about what she was planning. So far most of time when he has been alone with her, it led to him pissing himself but not pissing himself. Genjutsu's were oh so much fun to explain. Yet he followed her down the hall looking around at the different apparel they used for decoration, until they came to a door which she opened up with a key as she spoke about what she had in mind for him today. His eyes widened and sparkled a bit with delight as he gazed at the clean, organized room. This is where they made their poison? He always figured such places would be more grimy or dark looking, this had the exact opposite look.

He realized he was making his sensei wait and entered the room, looking at the tools they used. This only made him realize how much of an ametur he was when it came to this art. "New poisons? Are we allowed to? Actually thats a dumb question, you wouldn't have had the key if it wasn't allowed. Well I have to admit to being excited, j-just a bit of a pre cautionary though.... the new poisons aren't being tested on me in some tricking way right?"

Closing the door behind her, Aiko shook her head. "No. The ones I'm going to help you learn and how to use them are a bit too risky. Some of them even have a history. Or well, I suppose you could state that I've had a bad start when I learned about them." Aiko answered in return. First, however, she would make sure that they would be 'protected'. Grabbing an apron for him, Aiko turned half around. "This is certainly useful." Holding it out so that he could grab and put the apron on, she would also put one on herself. Following by also pulling out two pair of gloves. "Though I realise that using gloves make precision work a bit of a hassle, some of the plants and herbs are ones you don't want to touch. Like the mountain laurel. Gave me the most annoying rash ever."

Ahh risky poison, well that was good that it was too dangerous to be used on him. He nodded along until she handed out an apron to him to which he smiled at as he put his on. "Most likely is, if were dealing with dangerous poisons." She then pulled gloves out and mentioned that they may get in the way of precision but some you don't want to touch, as she mentioned getting a rash from mountain laurel. He snickered a bit at that thought. "My dad would agree with you, he explained a bit about what it could do, annoying rashes being one of them. Make great gifts though for those you dislikeeee~" He said chuckling a bit before getting his own gloves to put on.

"Promise you won't use the following plants and poisons on people you just dislike." Aiko said, trying to sound stern, but unable to hide away a bit of her own amusement. Turning around, she would first gesture to the table. "First we will start with the Calla Lilly. It isn't a particular super dangerous plant." The woman started as she would search the shelves for either dried examples or perhaps some small contained examples of the flower. Finding a small glass jar that contained a few, Aiko would pick out two very carefully.

They didn't look nasty perhaps, but Aiko would start to inform Kazumo about the dreadful effects that the plant could deliver. "This isn't just a plant you want in your garden. It looks like a normal lilly but upon contact it will deliver irritation and a rash. Ingesting the plant is a very bad idea. Ironically, I can't recommend to ingest the plant. As one might expect it can lead to a swollen mouth and tongue or sever irrtation at the throat or stomach. Diarrhea is also a common effect of somebody ingesting a part of the plant, for whatever reason they might have had.." Placing one lilly in front of him, she would place the other in front of herself. "I would like to start to dissect the flower and point out how to make it useful for the use of enhancing your smoke bombs or creating another diversion bomb with grinding a part of the flower. Though it is relatively easy to just grind the flower in whole and proceed to place a reasonable amount of grinded pulp into a bomb. Do note that this will create an irritation at the eyes as well and that you've to use it with care for yourself and your allies. If exposed too long to the grinded dust of the plant then the victim can also suffer damage to their eyes, other than just irritation and pain." Pausing, she would wait to see if he had any questions regarding the plant or just to allow him some time to observe and take a good look at the plant.

"Hahaha, okay I promise, no pretty flowers for mean people." He said before she would start her lesson starting with the Calla Lilly, a bland looking plant to say the least as she got a couple of examples out and they did appear harmless. Dried out but harmless, yet as she explained what it could do, it seemed like the side effects from medicine derived from this plant. She would place one in front of him to which he would look but not touch quite yet as she would explain what she wanted to do. He was getting ideas for crazy poisonous bombs these days. The one he made with Koike, which was more lethal than a hinderance though. "So you do small bits so it has just the right effect you want, and not a bigger one? That way you don't accidentally get yourself or your allies with any dust?"

"Yes. If you can, then I would suggest to use them in small doses and bombs. Minimalises the chance that you accidently deliver a most annoying rash to your ally or hinder their use of their eyes." Aiko replied. "Though, I must add that it isn't hard to get rid of it. Cleaning your skin with water and else rubbing your skin with some soap can get most of the rash away and if you're suffering at your eyes then just rinse them well with water. In case you might find yourself having suggested some of the plant, though really," placing her hands on her hips Aiko looked down with a frown at the flower, "I seriously wonder who came up with the bright idea to eat lillies. I wager it was either a fool or a starving fool or perhaps somebody who lost a bet? Anyhow, if you do happen to find yourself in the situation that you ingested any part of it then drink milk. Thouuuuugh," Aiko raised her right index finger as she turned half towards Kazumo, "Don't drink milk when you're having trouble with breathing. Such as in the case when you're vomiting or suffering a decreased level of alertness. You might else just choke yourself to death otherwise."

Water was a cure? Well that worked up his alley with his numbing agent, with water being able to cure any effects it would bring. His just had less effects, the kind she was talking about was clearly much more of a nuisance to deal with. Should he ingest any Lillies for some odd reason milk would help.... as long as he was choking our puking that is, then it added lethal effects to it. "Wow..... it makes my numbing agent look like walk in the park, it has so many effects. No wonder people try to crank out antidotes as fast as they can for Poison. Irritation, hinderance, can cause you to crap yourself, or just kill you for you trying to use a cure."

"It isn't a popular poison. It is hard to put it to an effective use without possible hinderance to one self. I would recommend using a mouth cap when grinding this and similar venomous plants and herbs." Aiko explained. She would pick the flowers carefully up and would put them back. Searching for another, she would soon enough return to the table to place two new flowers. "Veratrum flowers." Aiko said as she would then turn away to grab two small scalpels as well two mouthpieces to provide some protection. Waiting for Kazumo to put on the mouthpiece, she would start to explain about the plant.

"This dark beauty is a risky one. Before I want to hear or see you using, I want to be certain you know how to handle it. The poison from this flower is quite more potent than the calla lilly." Aiko warned Kazumo with a stern tone. She would use the scalpel to point at the root of the flower. "One way to extract poison is to press the juice from the flower. Applying it on a weapon or making somebody ingest it is the way to deliver the poison one way. You could also try to extract poison from the rhizomes of the plant, but I would recommend using the juice. This doesn't allow a combination with a smokebomb as the best way to not waste the poison is to try to apply and inflict in a more 'direct' manner." Pausing, Aiko would tap the roots softly with the flat side of the scalpel. "The symptoms of the poison are rather easy to recognize. They occur between thirty minutes and four hours after being ingested or inflicted. They can range from nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, numbness, headache, sweating, muscle weakness to slowing the heart rate, low blood pressure, seizures and irregular heartbeats. Of course, it is rare for all the symptoms to happen and occure all together. One person can suffer this or that symptom while another has to face seizures from being inflicted with this poison." Pausing to see if he had any questions, Aiko would place her left hand on her hip.

He would nod at her explanation as she picked the plants up and put them back where she got them then brought out a more beautiful looking plant called Veratrum, being handed a mouth piece he placed it on. It had more risks according to her as the poison was more potent. She explained the ways to extract it, and recommended it not be used for bombs but applied for a more direct approach. It had a lengthy rate of showing symptoms, but had so many that would be really annoying to deal with. Once she stopped explaining he did indeed have a question. "So how long does it stay applied for? I feel it would defeat the purpose if you had to apply then quickly strike before it just dripped off."

"It depends on the dose that is being applied." Aiko replied in return. "It can range from one to ten days. Though if a rather heavy dose is being applied then it is safe to assume that it can lead to a person's death." The woman paused. "When you try to extract the poison, remember to wear gloves. Though it isn't like the calla lilly causing any irritation, it is better to be safe with this one. Here," she would move the blunt side of the scalpel slowly down the roots. "When you try to extract, make a small cut and then try to carefully squeeze the juice out. There isn't a direct antidote, but with supportive care and medical attention to combat the symptoms a person can recover quite quickly. Usually takes a day."

It had a decent amount of time it stayed applied, so it had its benefits that way. A large does though could just kill someone though? Was it due to the high amount of poison entering their body? She gave advice and where to cut and how big of a cut to make, and to be gentle when getting the juice out. He nodded at all of this yet rose his hand to ask a question. "Is that the only cure then? No other remedies that might help besides supportive care and medical attention? It's that risky of a poison?"

"Well, there is of course medical ninjutsu. Though one could argue that you need to know what kind of poison it is first before just trying to pull out a random substance of the patient." Aiko thought for a second. "There is no really direct cure from what I know. I do know that there is a period that the plant is 'dormant' with making poison. Only at active growth is the juice really poisonous. Some people and clans use the dormant plants to create medicine from it. Herbal medicine to stop itches and treat tinea and scabbies. There is one plant that does help to reduce the potency of the poison, but as for a direct cure? Can't really advise anything else but to give supportive care and try to combat the symptoms."

"So it can be a cure at a dormant state and deadly at an active state? Sounds like one tricky plant. And medical ninjutsu huh? Yeah....I rather them be experts on getting poison out if they have too. Although I rather not be poisoned to begin with. Well it certainly sounds useful in both tame means and painful means." Kazumo said chuckling a bit."So is this plant also on the no giving to people I dislike list? It technically can help them."

A smile touched the woman's lips as she shook her head. "It is best to not poison people. Or as father used to say," Aiko paused for a second as she would pick up the flowers, "Don't let anybody catch you cheating. Think the same might apply on poisoning." Winking, she would turn and place the plants back. "Now, I'm going to teach you one of my favourites. It isn't anything in particular special, but the previous plant is a part of the... drug." Picking up several ingredients she would walk back and place them on the table. Also picking up a grinder and other proper tools, she would organise in a quick manner a whole set of ingredients and matters to let him finally start preparing a poison.

"What I'm going to teach you now is to create a poison or well, a drug, that doesn't have any scent. It is aimed to make the victims experience nothing too troublesome at first glance. They won't know what is wrong until they try to dodge an attack and realise that it didn't work. Still getting cut, hit or whatever happens. This is because this drug will lower their reflexes without making it too obvious. First," she pointed to the grinder and matching bowl, "Grind the veratrum flower into a very fine matter. It isn't a real requirment to make the drug, but I like it when there is that little certainty that the victim is being poisoned."

"Don't let anybody catch you cheating? I guess that would be the motto of an assassin." He said assuming it menat to not get caught being devious toward your target and not literal cheating. Then again he could never tell with his sensei. Yet what came next make his eyes shine again, as she brought out the ingrediants, tools and everything else that would be needed to make one of her favorite drugs! So with everything set out in front her first step for him was to grind the Veratrum flower into a very fine matter. Making sure his mask and gloves were fasten and on as best they could, he would grab the bowl and grinder setting them near him, and would gently pick the flower up and put it into the bowl. He would then begin grinding it, having some experience since his own required grinding first. He didn't even ask any question, he kept focused on what he was doing as to not mess up.

Nodding, she would remain silent as he focused on grinding the plant. "The best way to use this odourless poison is to hide it," she said as she would shove another ingredient towards him. She reckoned he would pay attention to the plants and material that he was going to use, so instead of making it into a long winded story that would be a lot to take in, Aiko decided to give a run down on how best to use the poison. "What I usually aim for is to use a smoke bomb and explosive tag. This is both to expand the smoke and poison into the air, making it harder to escape from it. I would suggest using wind ninjtusu to else create the same effect when you're short or don't have any explosive tags. In your case, I can't advise that, though," she said as she would pause for a second, "Another way is to prepare the field in a way. Throw kunai around with explosive tags and don't let them explode. Perhaps even give the idea that they are fakes to lure the enemy into a false sense of security or just to intimidate them more to be restricted instead of moving around freely."

He would nod as she pushed another ingrediant towards him, adding it in and grinding it as well, while she explained ways he could use it. "So hide some of it in a smoke bomb, and with an explosive tag expand it. Thats a pretty mean combo. But wind ninjutsu huh? Does Koike have this same drug? He has wind ninjutsu, so he could make it work better than I could." He next way was to prepare the field, with kunai and explosive tags but not lettign them explode. "So a trap of sorts? Where would the drug be in this scenario?"

"I taught him the recipe and it is true, he has wind ninjutsu. Though, doesn't mean that he can use it better. Just depends on how good you use it. Or in some cases, how ignorant your opponent is. Or how dumb. Both can work actually." Aiko said. "To throw or prepare the poison with or near the explosive tags. This way they will be spread in the air and seeing the fact that you can't smell them it is hard to realise that you're being affected. Which is just one part of the deal. Without any antidote, the poison can linger for day. Making combat quite hard for even experienced foes when they are affected."

"Ah so hidden with them, more so with the explosive tag concealing the poison? So spreading all the kunai out and not exploding them right away, would create this wide spread range it would be delievred in? Man I'm really glad your my sensei. You'd be terrifying to be an enemy of."

"Hm, no. The explosive tag is needed to spread the poison in the air and possibly distract the victim." Aiko replied. "To spread the explosive tags with the kunai is just one way to ensure that a large radius of terrain will be affected for a short moment with the poison. Do note that it won't remain too long in the air. If a person somehow manages to evade breathing it in then you can assume that they aren't poisoned. Though a bit of caution won't hurt, I suppose, when you're needed to walk through an area that was affected with the poison."

"Okay I understand that bit, sounds like one of those things where you have to get it right on the first try or it ends in failure.... Unless they are stupid enough to avoid the poison then walk right back into it that is." Kazumo said as he continued the process. "So how much can you usually make from this amount anyway?"

"Half a dozen. I usually tend to use more powder, but it is really a bit of expermenting how much you prefer yourself. Sometimes people get really paranoid when they face others in combat and will even distrust a cloud made of smoke or dirt. Or if they somehow spot a tiny difference to what they are used to." The woman said, a hint of amusement in her voice. "Then there are those who would rush into a cloud that is dark green and are surprised when they find themselves poisoned. So it is really all up to you how much you want to use in a bomb."

He was nodding along and even chuckled at knowing the paranoid feeling. Having a bit of it himself sometimes. Yet he stopped slightly to look at her when she mentioned those that rush into a cloud that is dark green. "Hahaha no one is that stupid..... r-right?" He said figuring she was making a joke, no one could be that stupid. "Half a dozen though huh? Seems about right, I have to use more for my own numbing poison."

"If I could only say that nobody is that stupid. Believe me, once you've served as long as I have then you start to see some people without a brain." Aiko could remember the particular chuunin exam battle in which she saw that Hyuuga run straight into a the poisonous cloud of Koike. It was both amusing as worriesome thinking about it. "Good. Now, you must memorize the ingredients, but I'll else make a list for you later. Most of the ingredients aren't too hard to find and else can be found on most markets back home. Perhaps I should write down which markets you've to visit to get the required ingredients, but any questions?"

He chuckled a bit nervously at what she said, not really wanting to believe that stupidity could go that far. She told him that all he had to do what memorize the ingrediants but she would make him a list later anyway. Even that some markets sold this stuff, which seemed a bit questionable, but she said would perhaps write down which markets would sell it. Were these.... shady markets? So when she asked any questions, he shook his head. "No, but since were on the topic of poison. Koike and myself actually made one not that long ago. Maybe once were done, him and myself can show you how to make it? It combines two regular household cleaners." Kazumo said chuckling a bit.

"Really? Interesting." Aiko replied. She wondered how the two had met and bonded, but she was pretty happy about it. Thinkin about how Koike had been in the past it was certainly an improvement that she could hear that the young man was gaining more friends. Or at least people he was open to work with while not even being on a mission with them. "How about we keep it here for today and go get some lunch? My treat."

"Yep it really is! Although its really dangerous..." Kazumo said rubbing the back of his head as she suggested to go get lunch on her treat. He didn't mind but it felt a bit bad considerign others were on patrol and here he was learning about poison and about to go get lunch with his sensei.. Meh he will get over it. "Sure! Is the food different over here than in Konoha?"

"Really? Perhaps you can show it to me later?" Aiko asked, genuinely interested in the bomb that they had designed. A soft chuckle resonated from Aiko as she shook her head. "Not that much different. There are some local dishes, but there is also the same kind of ramen, soup and other dishes that we're used to at home. What would you like to have for lunch? Seeing you have been on the military rations for a few days now with the others, I suspect something tasty, no?"

"Sure thing. Although it will have to be in a safe place." Kazumo replied with before thinking of what he might want to eat. "Not sure, anythings better than military rations, but I don't want to be typical and eat what I usually do at home. Not sure honestly, maybe a salad of sorts?" He asked not wanting to say meat again considering thats a good bit of what he ate since he hunted for his own food sometimes. "Huh thinking about it. I remember me and Kiyomi were going to eat fruit cake at one time. Any place have that?"

She nodded. Clearly it would be a bit foolish to test or show a poison bomb in the midst of a civilian gathering. At least, as long they aimed to not hurt any innocent bystanders. Shoving her hands down into the pockets of her pants, Aiko would start to lead them out of the complex as she thought of his reply. "A salad? You're the first student who ever brought that up." Amused, she did thought of a potential place where they could perhaps get some fruit cake. Before they left the building they were given their rain coats seeing the weather outside. "Seeing that I doubt we're really needed we can just walk around and perhaps do some sight seeing. Last time I had been here was for the Chuunin exams and I hadn't seen much of the city's features."

The first student to mention salad? Really, but it seemed so common, maybe the others asked for more complex things? "Is that a good thing or bad thing?" He asked smiling a bit, walking to the exit of the building where he would put on his raincoat. She mentioned sightseeing which sounded quite fun. "Well its not every day you get to see another villages sights, and how was that? The Chuunin exams that is? I hear those can be a bit tough on the student's senseis. With all the risk and such that can come from them." He asked, thinking he heard stories about someone being foolish enough to keep fighting when pulled underground.

"Perhaps a bit of both?~" Aiko would say back. Pulling up the hood of her raincoat, she would think for another second. How did the last Chuunin exams go in her opinion? "It was in overal perspective quite a success for my team back then. Koike and Katsu both participated as I deemed that they were fit for the challenge. Katsu managed to pull out a draw, but didn't got a promotion. Koike, well, think that is quite clear." Aiko remembered that particular match. "Remember when I said earlier about somebody storming into a poison cloud? That happened between Koike and a student of Team 7. Not sure what is up with that guy, but Koike went to the next rounds. Went pretty great. There were some other people who I had mentored before or still now and then offer some advise and mentoring that participated. Though think that only one of the others outside Team 8 became a chuunin afterwards."

Throwing a look sideways, Aiko became a bit amused. "You're not going to tell me that you're nervous by just thinking about it, are you?"

Nodding along it was good to hear her team did fairly good last exam, then she mentioned the team 7 guy fighting Koike and had a blank look on his face. "I still have to wonder how thats possible.... Well sounds good for you overall that is. And someone else besides Koike? Kiyomi?" He asked only to be given the question of if he was nervous thinking about it. "Well I can't deny being a bit nervous. I'm not exactly all skill and finesse. I would have to pretty much be as tricky and decieving as possible to even win probably. Besides the exams arent for a while and I doubt I'm ready for them."

Shaking her head, Aiko would response back as they kept walking down the streets. "No, Kiyomi was already back then a chuunin. It is actually the jinchuriki of this city." The woman calmly stated. She wondered what Kuni was up to now, but Aiko actually enjoyed a moment of 'peace' with just Kazumo. As Kazumo stated on why he was a bit nervous, Aiko scoffed lightly. "Perhaps not, but you'll get there. Just give it your all and you will see. And if that doesn't help, I got a pretty good record of training chuunin. That has to count for something, I suppose."

The jinchuriki of this city? Well she certainly was the popular one to be capable of doing such. As usual though when he thought lowly of himself she tried to make him think abit more highly saying he would get there eventually, and that she did have a good record on training them, which caused him to laugh a bit. "Well I can't argue that logic, but thanks for believing in myself, mostly when I don't haha." He said giving her a smile as he continued walking besides her. Wondering how people ever could live in a city that rained nonstop. Was their bodies just more use to it by nature?

"Hey, no problem. And if stating that I believe in you doesn't help, I will just have to kick your butt. Also a very effective manner I have found out with several pupils." The woman said in a cheerful manner. Walking further Aiko frowned. Perhaps they had walked into a wrong part of the city during their talking, but there weren't many people present on the street. Looking around, she figured tha they had walked probably out of the district into where people lived instead of where they could get some fruit cake from some nice establishment. Just as she half turned around Aiko noticed somebody up the street staring down at them. "Eerie fellow, huh?" She mumbled as she eyed the only other soul present on the street. He was wearing a dark brown rain coat with a hood covering much of the features. Judging by his size Aiko guessed it was a bloke.

"Lets be real, you would have done that with or without my acknowledge. It's what you do, and half the reason I get a bit skecthy when I do training with you alone. I either end up pissing myself, or shitting myself." He said smiling to show he didn't mind the sometimes really harsh training sessions. Yet as they continued it was clear that they might have been lost a bit, which was okay they were after all going to enjoy the sights a bit. Until a figure further down the street was staring at them wearing a raincoat. Aiko mumbled something to which he agreed to. "Yeah...and speaking of sketchy... Should we head back?"

"Probably a good idea. Thought we could use a bit of time to take it easy, but let's head back." Aiko mumbled. Just as she was about to turn around to start walking the figure at the other end of the street started to run towards them. Turning around once more, Aiko shifted her language into Chonobi. "Seems like trouble." The unknown fellow was particular fast, closing in the distance with the two at a rapid speed. Seeing that she had no weapons on her at the moment, Aiko would simply vanish into thin air as the rain seemed to take her place.

Just as they were about to turn around the figure started running at them, at a rather fast pace as well, causing him to step back a bit in surprise. "I need to stop jinxing myself!" He stated in Chonobi before Aiko would vanish into thin air. Causing him to start jogging backwards, reaching into his back pouch. Grabbing two Senbon he would launch them at the man. Okay calm yourself, she is around. She wouldnt just ditch us. He thought to himself, preparing himself for the persons attack.

The two senbon would hit their mark, but a soft thud would sound through the air afterwards. The eerie fellow would come to a halt, almost if Kazumo wasn't even there. Looking around, the hooded figure seemed to be on the look for something. Pulling out a crude looking thin knife there was a soft grumbling originating from the stranger. Turning his attention back on Kazumo, the stranger would start to walk towards the genin.

Kazumo would continue jogging back peeking behind himself every once in a while to make sure no one was there, so it was a bit of a shock when his senbon hit. Yet that sound wasn't normal. So when he came to a halt Kazumo wasted no time in weaving handseals, for his basic earth style jutsu. So when the kinfe came out which sent alarm bells through his head, he finished the handseal and would jump backwards to get a bit more distance. As he landed though his body started sinking into the ground.

The eerie stranger suddenly started to charge as it spotted that Kazumo was trying to get away, raising the knife as a cold, chilling sound was produced by the stranger. Just when Kazumo sunk completely into the ground, the stranger lashed out and missed the genin. Growling sounds would be produced from underneath the hood as the stranger looked left and right before starting to run off.

Breathing heavily after barely dodging that attack, he staye dundeground until he ehard the sounds of feet running away. Yet why would he do such? He seemed bent on killing them why run away? Oh shit! Popping his head and arm out of the ground, he had two more senbon in his hands, which he threw at the person's head. If hitting the body didn't produce anything, the head always would.

The senbon didn't miss but neither seemed to stick as they pierced through the cloth of the rain coat. Only to bounce as some hard substance seemed to be in the way. The stranger didn't seem to even care coming to a halt. Looking around, it then suddenly looked right and started to run again, the crude looking weapon held at the ready as it went into an alley.

It didn't work? They just fell to the ground? How the hell did that work? Kazumo wondered as he was now ignored as the man ran into an alley. Kazumo was about to move when he clamed himself to think a bit. Sensei isn't this stupid, she wouldn't go to far away from the scene He thought before looking around. "Sensei if you are there show me a sign?" He asked in chonobi knowing that if the man was waiting he wouldn't understand what was said.

A silence plagued the streets for some time. Out from the alley a sharp grinding sound would be produced, followed soon enough by some small pebbles being blown out from the alley. The silence soon returned on the street, faintly disturbed by soft sounds coming from the alley.

Gritting his teeth he would sink further into the ground keeping eye just above the ground level as he moved in slowly to gaze at what was around the corner, if it was indeed a trap he would just sink completly into the ground again.

Lowering herself, Aiko would skid backwards as the knife moved her. The weapon would grind against stone, but didn't seem to blunten or stop much of the attack. Being visible there were a few scratches and torn marks on her rain coat but no blood seemed to be drawn from the woman. Before the woman could launch a counter attack, the stranger started to attack again. Driving Aiko into putting her effort into dodging and backing away from her attacker.

Fearing the worst his sensei was indeed being attacked causing him to clench his hands underground before sinking in fully and moving forward towards them. Why couldnt he ever just have a nice day without some sort of annoyance or painful thing happening with his sensei? He could feel his sensei backing away while the attacker moved forth, when close to being underneath he would try a pretty risky move, of grabbing the ankles from below and pulling him under.

As Kazumo grabbed the ankles a cold sensation would spread through his hands and arms. The stranger tried to pull, wanting to move forward to continue his attack. Aiko would skid backwards as she brought her hands together to form several handsignals. Focusing the jounin would take a breathe in and form a wind sphere around her right hand. Lashing out, a sharp arc of wind chakra traveled to their foe. Only to vanish as it neared the stranger. Kazumo would also feel the cold sensation to become worse, draining chakra at a slow, but steadily rate.

Grabbing him was already seemingly dangerous as one touch sent a chill throughout him. Yet he held onto the man despite the cold feeling for Aiko to attempt a attack yet nothing happened and the cold feeling became worse. He grunted a bit as continued holding on and continued to try and pull him under. He seemingly can block attacks but if they could jsut limit his mobility then that was all they would need. So he continued through the chilling pain, for this one ploy.

"What?" Confused Aiko stared for a second as her technique - the Wind Blade - had just vanished. How? She couldn't fanthom how the stranger coulddo that. As she tried to consider a way to get out of this mess she noticed how the unknown foe started to resist Kazumo trying to pull him down. Somehow the earth technique of the genin didn't seem to work, causing Aiko's eyes to widen. "Kazumo, get away from there!" Shouting the order, the woman started to run towards their attacker in order to draw his attention away from her pupil.

Kazumo tried and tried through the cold feelign and all, yet no matter how hard he pulled down, the man just wouldnt sink. How was this even possible? Did jutsus and regular attacks not work on him? He heard Aiko command him to get away, but if he did what would happen to her? Yet he would reluctanly release his grip sinking his hands into the ground. Reaching into his pouch he held a circular glass object in his hands. Taking a deep breath in he resurfaced with his head and arm. "Hold your breath!" Kazumo shouted in Chonobi before shattering the glass on the ground, which would release the powerful odor. This was a literal last line move he could use, if poison didnt work then he didn't know what else could.

The woman kept running as the stranger tried to regain his balance. Opening her left hand as she wanted to make another move, Aiko's lips would part as her eyes widened. Just when Kazumo shattered the glass blood dripped on the ground, to be washed away by the rain pour. The stranger made a soft hissing sound, twisting the knife further into the side of the jounin. Shocked, Aiko didn't move as the poison also started to spread in the alley.

Suddenly Aiko bursted out in water. Water that started to use the rain to form a sphere around the opponent. A muffled, chilling scream orginated from the attacker as the water mixed with the poison created a blurry water prison. Appearing slowly in vision as she stopped to use her Hiding in the Rain technique, Aiko looked with a cold expression at the trapped attacker. "You okay?"

Kazumo halted and looked in horror at what just happened. Did... did he cause this by not running? Shit! How much he wanted to reverse this error of his, he didnt want his sensei to die because he didnt want to leave her alone with a mad man! Then a blank look formed in his eye as she bursted into water and swirled around the attacker. Mixing his poison and her water prison. He stared blankly as he resurfaced looking at his sensei. "I swear, you are going to give me heart issues later on in life."

"Hm?" Glancing over her shoulder at her student, an apologetic smile briefly dawned on the woman's lips. "Sorry, thought you were aware of my tactics. Anyways," turning her attention back something seemed off with the sphere. It started to shrink. "Damn it. Okay that is it, let's pull out, now!" That having said, Aiko would turn on her heels and started to run.

"I really should by now...." He stated sighing before she stated to pull out, and rightfully so. The sphere was shrinking which probably meant poison didnt work. So nodding he turned around as well and started to run away with her. Now the big question they would have to ask later is what the hell what this monster?

Running through the streets with Kazumo it didn't take long before they were back in the more populated streets. Panting lightly Aiko threw looks around. "Are you hurt?" She asked on a hushed and worried tone, using their culture's language. Throwing another wary look around, she would gently push him to continue walking with her. Not sure if they were yet in safety, Aiko decided that they could perhaps take a breathe being in public.

They kept on running until they reached an area with more people in it, taking a slower pace as he panted she would ask him if he was hurt. "No, but when I grabbed him it sent a literal chill through me and it kept getting worse. I could feel my chakra fading as I held onto him." He stated in their language looking at his arms to make sure they were fine. "What the hell can't be harmed by attacks from physical, ninjutsu, or poison? It makes no sense."

"It doesn't, no." Though that was why her ninjutsu hadn't the desired effect. That stranger had absorbed her ninjutsu and apparently even getting physical contact allowed the person to drain chakra. Then again what kind of person produced such sounds as their assaulter had made? It didn't add up that poison wasn't working either. "Let us first get somewhere we can breathe and take it easy. For now, keep this between us. It is bad enough that we can't be certain who we can and can't trust in this city."

He nodded to her instructions. "Okay sensei. Yet shouldnt you report it to the higher ups in Amegakure? Wouldn't they want to know about someone that is seemingly invincible?" He asked, understanding keeping it between them in the group, but were they allowed to keep possible threats secret from the city it was in?

"I will. But first somebody else needs to know about this." Aiko said. She tugged the hood of her rain coat further over her head, trying to hide her features better. "And hey now," she said on a more cheerful tone, "Nobody is invincible. I almost had him there, didn't I? Heh." The woman snickered for a second afterwards.

When she made the joke he couldnt help but frown a bit. "Well it certainly did trick him long enough, and me. Yet if he isnt invincible then I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring up ways to harm him that won't get someone stabbed." Kazumo said grumbling a bit, still a bit upset and relieved at the ruse she pulled earlier. "Here I thought that kind of stuff was reserved for messing with me in my mind."

"Not really. I could pull something better off if I had the space and time to do so. That old, cheap trick with the water clone and prison isn't a new one. But it work on occassion." Aiko said. Patting him on the shoulder, she smiled a bit. "But don't worry. Next time we at least know that some of our tactics don't work. Perhaps we did some damage and injured it? Lets for now not break our heads over it."
She told him, while remembering what she had heard from Koike. So this was what he and Katsu had fought? Now she was certain that the group she was leading wasn't going to be enough to tackle whatever those people were.

"True, so far the only tactic we didnt try was punching it, but I get the feeling that wont work. But yeah lets worry about it later. I for one am exhuatsed now. Between fighting, having my chakra sucked out from me.... and then running I'm wiped out. I say we skip the fruitcake and just ehad back and rest."[/spoili]
