As many people realized, something has been not right with my Skype account.

It is true - the safety of my Skype account is compromised. From today, ignore any messages sent from me and I [BCOLOR=#000000]would strongly advise to block my account -[/BCOLOR] I will stay in touch with Gero and when I am confident I can start using Skype again, I might reapper in the group chats on a new account with maxed security.

I am very, very sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused to any of you, but I had no control over it. The first message, sent on Friday was sent when I was some 200km from my notebook. The ones sent today, happened while I was logged on and using my Skype again.

To any who clicked on the link accidentaly, please - make sure your passwords are well protected. An anti-virus and malware scan is advised.

Once again, I am terribly sorry for everything that happened because of this and I do hope your information on the interwebz will remain safe.

    Personality:
Cold and ruthless are the keywords to explain the persona of Nishi. This is thanks to the training and experiences that she has endured in her time with the ANBU black ops. While she isn't in any way a sociopath, Nishi doesn't value the lives of other people as much as a generic person would. In her opinion all that matters are results and this has also contributed to the fact that Nishi has become somewhat of a perfectionist. Irritation and frustration follow quickly when something doesn't go according to plan and while Nishi has learned how to deal with changes, it still irks her more than most others would be.

As her record will show Nishi has little to no problems with betrayal. Having betrayed her family and several superiors has led to some attention of the higher officers within the ANBU corps of the Republic. All, of course, on the orders of the ANBU commander and the Mizukages she has served over the years. This has made Nishi consider loyalty an almost obscene fact and doesn't go out of her way to aid her 'comrades' in the other military and civilian corps of the Republic.
While there is more to Nishi, there hasn't been much else that the Intelligence Division has managed to learn from mandatory [psychological] interviews.

    DN3p4.png

    History:
Nishi was born into the lower nobility family of Hirashima that used to own and govern the small city of Naju. The lineage of the noble family even preceded the Water Daimyo's, but their influence and power never reached far or was enough to be noticed or considered as a prominent family within the country. As the youngest of the family and only daughter, Nishi was groomed and raised to be a lady-in-waiting. Education was given to make her more 'attractive' for any noble that desired a wife that could write and wouldn't shame him with being ignorant.
Nishi never seemed to have been bothered by the fact that was going to be her fate. As a young child, she was quite silent and introvert, which only seemed to be a blessing for her parents as none of her brothers was anywhere near silent or introvert. All of Nishi siblings were pretty much 'loud'. Desiring to bring their family to the table of the internal politics of the Water country, the sons of the Hirashima family desired to join the military and civilian positions that could bring wealth and influence. As well bringing renown to the Hirashima name, at last making it mark on the map.

Life seemed to be going quite well for the Hirashima family as the children grew up. However, in the year 463, the whole family seemed to have been taken out. Evidence point out that it was an operation that was run by the Shinobi corps of the Fire country - at the time, which is now the Imperial Akinian Shinobi corps.

The record of Nishi is short and seems to be almost flawless. Her entry in the Academy and graduation seems to be somewhat off and it can be assumed that the girl's natural talent for chakra manipulation and control was a reason that it attracted the attention of the shinobi corps at the time. With the losing front of the Water country, it was only logical that they started to draft up potential shinobi as conscripts for their military.
However, Nishi was never trained or prepared for the battlefields. Being deployed as a spy to conduct intelligence gathering and counter-intelligence operations she started to grow up in a world where information is more worth than gold. And every life seems to hold a certain kind of value, ready to be 'cashed in' or exchanged for information.

    * More information is prepared and will be written out as characters can investigate Nishi's past by doing operations in Naju. I also intend to write more about her background in time once characters start to discover more about her. Think about spoilers that will detail summaries on various operations she has been on/dealing with.*

(Artist is Bladepso on Deviantart, look 'em up :U)

23msj6g.png

Personality:
Typically Niji tries to be friendly, but due to her training as a personal guard she tends to take on a rather serious or protective demeanour over those she's fond of, close to or requested to protect. This normally ends up hindering social interactions for the most part, but she has her moments where she gets to let herself loose and relax, normally indulging in books of a certain genre.

For the past couple of years, since Shoji's attempt at a takeover of the ninja world and was exposed to some distressing events, she is determined to shed as little blood as is possible. And despite everything, she maintains a strong loyalty to those close to her and Kumogakure.

DN3p4.png

History:
The Yakei clan, residing in Kumogakure, has been dedicated to protective services in methods such as tracing seals and personal bodyguards for those who wish to pay for an extra hand in situations. Therefore along with the average shinobi academy training, the family has it's own training during their time outside training with their jounin in an attempt to bring out a more disciplined shinobi to take on the mantle of a protector.

Unfortunately Niji has had little chance to really prove herself to her family as an asset to their business, so she has mostly been sent off on missions for the benefit of Kumogakure. She used to have a charge, a near blind girl of similar age whom was a kunoichi like herself, unfortunately the girl fell ill and was from then on under watch from her own family, so Niji was left without someone to guard for some time.

During this time she overwent a change in views after a conflict with an especially passionate foe who's words hit her harder than she thought, but now refrains from killing as much as she can. In the past couple of years her training in the shinobi ways has ground to a halt and all she has done is maintain her current skill level and rank, but recently has had a re-kindled inspiration to try and get back into the swing of things with her new ethos.

Clans

Clans? Which ones?
latest

All of them. I will, of course, not just name up clans and say where they are. Everybody is aware that the Senju, for example, are in the Akinian Empire and that the Suzu clan is a past clan in the Water country. I will instead summarise some information and explain important matters about them. As well briefly make it clear how renowned they are as it sometimes makes no sense at all when a genin graduates but isn't aware of a prominent clan in their own nation.
Does this mean that you have to accept this as canon in the RP? Yes. Why? Because in a setting where a clan can be quite influential in all kind of fields - such as politics, military and economic matters - people will be keen on remembering them.
Am I also going to cover every clan that exist or has existed in the RP? No. Why not? Because not all clans that have active members are in a crude phrasing 'interesting' enough to make the post longer. I am going to put a focus on the clans that are 'interesting' because of their achievements, activity and potential. Hopefully, providing a good read for you all out there.

How do you get development from a clan?

Let us start simple. When you make a character, you need to provide a background. It all sounds like I am now treating you as a toddler and as a matter of fact, I am seriously going to do that. Not because I believe you don't grasp what I am pointing at otherwise, but because of the sheer amount of characters in a clan and the fact that only a few fit their character to the cultural image of their clan. I will ignore special snowflakes as I think it is clear what my opinion on those are, but anyways. It is easy to get development from a clan's background. Why?
Easy, because a clan usually has influence. Power. Wealth. I say usually, because assuming that every clan has influence, power and wealth is a mistake. Not everybody should be allowed a shot of having a 'great' clan, but because there are reasons why one clan is more feared/respected than the other and that isn't just because of an existing Kekkei Genkei or Hidden.
So how do you know that a clan has influence, power and wealth? Let's first look at the obvious: positions and history. For this, we will use the example of the Senju clan. They have gained prestige and influence from founding Konohagakure with the Uchiha clan as well as bringing forth the First Hokage. While their influence and power (as perhaps wealth) isn't as what it once was, that shouldn't be forgotten. In a setting like the one in which the RP is settled, prestige from name and history is a big theme. To have a person that is kin of yours being a prominent member of the higher echelons is quite a thing to be proud off. To try to become like them isn't a rarity or striving to bring back lost glory and honour.
No, I am not trying to make you all into Sasuke's/Sausages. I am really serious that it is a good idea to use the background of your clan like that to form your character having that desire or goal. It can provide fun development and plunge you into the political schemes that happen in a clan and country.
But also remember that the majority of clans are groups of people. Some are large and have populations that support a large part of a realm, making it clear that their culture influences the realm to the point that it is impossible to ignore. And when one clan is large, they can make easier attempts to climb up the ladder, gaining wealth and power.

Does this mean that only large clans are capable of holding on to prestige? No. There are many ways for a clan to gain prestige and power. I can try to name them all, but I consider you smart enough to try to come up with some ways - see? I can be nice.
Not to mention that what you consider prestigious and awesome, needing to be respect and what not, can be shrugged off by another clan. Keep that also in mind.

But what does history have to do with my character? I get that I can get inspiration and motives from a background involved with a clan, but what should history do?

Good questions you're asking! You must be an expert! As for the answer: everything. History is perhaps of the past, but it impacted the present. A great war can have left scars in a clan with for example a reduced population. A great example of this can be the result of the Nimatsu-Hon conflict. It wasn't perhaps a conflict that interested many other clans, but it saw to it that the Nimatsu got pretty much decimated to a very small clan. A potential development from that conflict for the present day IC for a Nimatsu character can be distrust and negative emotions towards the Hon clan or in a broader sense: towards the entire Chonobi culture.
Do I mean that your character HAS to be a dick to every character that has an origin within the Hon/Chonobi clan and culture? No. What I mean is that you can try to find motives and development from those conflicts. Perhaps a 'born' fear of losing those close to you as your character doesn't have an extended family to fall back on. Or perhaps wanting to become acknowledged in order to have the power to make a change for the better of your people and clan. The ways and options can be endless and they are right there, in the clan sheets that provide lore and information that can be used.

But how does my character become a better shinobi with using what I can find in a clan sheet that doesn't involve training, techniques or anything about combat?

I agree, becoming a better fighter by following particular everyday rituals and manners of a clan won't lead instantly or provide much logical ground to be a better fighter. But it makes it always easy to have something to write about. Unless your character somehow magically knows everything about another clan or is raised in the clan/culture and yet has never expressed interest to practising their manners. Cause.... COMBAT DEVELOPMENT!
Yes, I am going to make jokes about that. Why? Cause development isn't all just about making a character just stronger. Characters that are only focused on becoming stronger for some weird aspiration to just be the best aren't popular. How can I say this? Because of various polls have been hosted and such characters never made it in any top. Perhaps if you would topple it with having the top most disappointing characters, then yes. Bravo, I would be wrong in that they don't reach the top.

But back to development. It isn't just about making your character better in combat. If they gain comfort from practising various rituals that originate from religion or their clan/culture, it can be interesting to find out why. What is their drive to continue to strive every day or what they do if they aren't sweating pools on the training fields. What has formed them emotionally and mentally?
Do you need to find that interesting or agree with me? No. No, you don't have to. But it has proven in the polls and conversations that characters that are fleshed out and have so many details are better understood and are easier to relate to. It makes people eager to approach you to write something with you as your character is detailed and isn't just all focused on becoming a better fighter. While writing a training or fight post might be fun, it is quite fun to write something that doesn't involve anything that is aimed to improve one's militaristic skills or assets. Giving the character some depth in a way.

What if I have a character that isn't part of any clan? Why would I then invest in knowing this or that about a clan? What would that help my character?

Quite a lot, actually. So far a lot of clans have had a lasting impact on the cities in which our characters are present. Or even an entire nation regarding culture and administration or military. Academy students are taught about the various prominent culture that had some effects on their nation - such as the Senju and Uchiha for example for those in Akino with Konoha now being the imperial capital. Or people learning/knowing about the Suzu clan in the Republic. This isn't just to put a clan on a pedestal or making them seem great because a majority likes/prefers them. It is because it makes sense.
I will take the example of the Suzu clan. They had a big impact on the politics and administration of the Water country. One can even argue that their influence still lingers around while the clan is rumoured to be dead and hunted down to the last member. The Suzu clan had several Mizukages that invoked various orders and manners of how the military of the Water country worked or was designed. They were the most prominent and gave rise to some of the early success of the Water country. It only senses that even to this date that Academy students are taught about them. It is a part of the Water country history and culture, something that made them stand out and look successful - cause every nation does that when they get the chance to do so. Even in our own world/life we experienced or have experienced this.

What is more important to know/What should my character know or be aware of??

It is important to know that characters should be aware of most, if not all, listed clans in this post. They are being taught about the culture of prominent clans and some of their history to better understand them. How does this make them better shinobi? Not in a direct manner, perhaps, but it is always useful to be known with the cultures/factions/clans that have shaped and still have a large sway in the political atmosphere in the land you're serving/being born in. It is for a reason why the military in each nation works somewhat differently and not just because we decided that was much better and more fun, but because influence from various clans and their culture started to slip in. A good example is why the Akinian military is focused on discipline and being able to endure a punch, seeing that the culture of the Hon has shaped their warriors to endure physiological impacts. Or why the ANBU of the Republic of the Water country had all kind of shady and obscene traditions, mimicking some of the Suzu's clan traditions on raising assassins.

But does this mean that my character(s) has to like the prominent clans?

Simple answer : No.
They should be aware and know certain aspects/things of the prominent clans - cause how they else manage to graduate the Academy is going to be tough if history is a required subject to pass - but they are free to like them or not for their own reasons.

Why didn't you cover all the clans?

Good question and one for which I have a simple answer: because I couldn't either find more information to write about them or because their position in the Lightning country isn't known. The major players have been listed above and one can read information about them. I do encourage to try to read on more clans that reside in the Lightning country and provide interesting reads as characters. Furthermore, the main theme is the difference between the settled clans and the nomadic clans. With just a few clans on each side known this is the best, I can write about them without going into assumptions and probably stepping on some toes. This pretty much also is for the Republic of the Water country and the Akinian empire. Due to the lack of information, I can't write a lot about them other than taking information from their clan sheets.

[tabs][Tab | Lightning country |]
The Lightning Country [and her vassals].

Political situation :

Clans in the Lightning country are easy to separate in a global manner by answering one question: are they settled or nomadic clans?
As the only country is so far known with nomadic clans, this gives a certain different political structure to the country. Nomads don't just have the same mannerism and culture as those of the settled clans. Which can lead to distrust, clashes and conflict between the two - though this doesn't have to be the norm. While the nomads are free to travel within the borders of the realm, they too are obliged to follow the laws of the land. While many of the nomadic clans are often travelling in a set area to find pasture for their cattle and are staying in the boundaries of the land that they are acquainted with this hasn't left the settled clans easier.
This difference hasn't done anything to make the settled northern clans be capable of agreeing with one another. Currently the top 3 prominent clans in the north - [ regarding prestige, fame and military might ] - are:

- The Sanosuke clan(s).
- The Hojo clan.
- The Sato clan.

It is interesting to note that only two of the three are striving truly for political power and influence. The Sato clan are a nomadic clan that have gained fame and popularity through the two current jinchuriki of the Two and Eight tails. With the popularity that the Saviour has under the military force that is loyal to the Raikage, it has certainly gifted the Sato with a positive side-effect of being respected and accepted easier by others.
The Hojo and Sanosuke, however, have glaring differences. Apart from their history of being rivals and nemesis, having fought various wars with one another, they are the current sides who strive to outdo the other. The Sanosuke have already managed to gain top positions in the military, having even established their supremacy during the tenure of the Fourth Raikage. The Hojo clan is more influential with the Cloud Daimyo - the Ranzaki Dynasty - where they have gained more or less an expected image of being the guardians of the daimyo. Sparking the rivalry between them and the Sanosuke only more.

"All one needs in life is the earth, the sky, your family and a flock of sheep."

The Sato believe that everything around in nature them carries a form of life force/energy. Nature and man are irreversibly connected through this force. When someone passes away he or she will become part of this energy and thus become one with natural force once again. For those who have lived a specific life it becomes possible to become a nature spirit, a spirit that will live in a specific mountain or a specific tree and will guard this tree. The Sato have many a tale about such spirits and the wrath they can bestow on those who harm the natural element they live in and protect.

The Sato clan isn't in any way or form a clan that is focused on anything militant. They don't have specialised troops or are remarkable smiths or having any Hidden or Kekkei Genkei that grant them an edge over their foes. The Sato clan are peaceful nomads of the north, travelling the lands as they let their cattle feed on the pastures and meadow that they come across on their travels.
They are in the top 3 of the influential clans of the Lightning country because of a few reasons that have stirred some interest in the peaceful and friendly folk that go by the name Sato. One of the most obvious reasons is that the clan isn't as small as many of the other nomadic clans that roam the north. This can be the result of the Great War as the Sato clan used to be smaller than what it is in the present.
458 was the year that the Ariyama clan, a clan that had mostly been traversing the southern part of the Land of Lightning whereas the Sato spends their time in the north, approached the Sato with a cry of need. Due to a skirmish at the border with the Land of Fire the Ariyama had suffered great losses in cattle. Because the two clans were on good terms and had met several times before an agreement was made. Shunso Sato, the youngest son of the, at that time, current chief Takayuki Sato, was to marry Chie Ariyama, the daughter of one of higher ranked members of the Ariyama clan. Their marriage would seal the integration of the Ariyama clan into the Sato clan, bringing profit for both and making the clan thrive.

What is more interesting about this marriage is that it saw the birth of Midori Sato. While Midori didn't possess anything that caused people to find more special, such as particular abilities to become a better soldier or kunoichi, her fate would be one that saw the Sato gaining more respect from settled clans. Becoming the Jinchuriki of the Eight Tails the daughter of Shunso Sato would bring indirectly fame and respect to the Sato clan, even more, when she was held responsible for liberating Kumogakure from Shoji's occupation - giving those who fought against it hope that they weren't facing a losing battle.
Not too long after news spread of a Sato in the southern lands becoming renowned for her deeds. Kiyomi, who had discovered her origins, decided to make it known that she was also a Sato by blood. With her achievements it became clear - or so some look at it now - that the Sato clan has potential to rise up from humble nomads into fearsome warriors and shinobi. Which has made it happen that the nomadic clan has gained an easier time when dealing with some of the settled clans.

[/tab][Tab | Irozaki Clan|]
The Irozaki clan isn't a particularly large or renowned clan. They are mostly known for their competent shinobi which many consider being because of their Kekkei Genkei - the Storm Release.
Located in Kumogakure, the Irozaki clan is one of the few clans in the north that seems to have focused completely on training and producing competent operatives for the country. While not every Irozaki has or serves in the military, the majority seems to be drawn towards it. The Irozaki are also staunch followers of Akemi.
[/tab][Tab | Hojo Clan|]
"Risen to lead,
The name, Hojo,
Long ago accedes,
Swords drawn and shields raised,
Their skill praised,
With honour and loyalty,
Guardians of royalty.

The Hojo clan is a clan that considers itself to be one of the noble clans of the north - if not 'the' noble clan, excluding the line of the Lightning clan daimyo (Ranzaki). They are proud of their achievements and position, training and bringing forth hardy warriors and competent shinobi. Many of which strive to become guardians of the Daimyo and his kin, what is seen not only by the Hojo as a noble and prestigious duty. While they respect and honour people that have gained various achievements they have a certain arrogant air around them. Befitting their ideal that they're nobler and worthy of prestige as respect than the other clans in the Lightning country."

- Oetje, creator of the Hojo clan.

- Staunch followers of the Akemi religion
Akemi was the founder of the religion that was about the worship of the storms and lightning. Finding this phenomenon fascinating the founder of the religion began to explain how the driving power of the world was not in the earth itself, but up above in the clouds. Several deities make up a pantheon for the storm religion where it is explained that one who has followed a life by the codes of the Storm shall be allowed to enter the paradise where his or her ancestor's feast.

The Hojo clan is one of the most influential clans in the north. This isn't because of their prestige, history or the competent warriors and shinobi that they have brought forth. As a clan that brings forth most of the guards and protectors of the Lightning daimyo, they are considered one of the most powerful clans. This coupled with their stronghold in the north has made it clear that their might isn't just a fable or an opinion of many.
When indulging into their culture one will quickly notice that they are fond of discipline and order, which is shown through their mannerism and also, of course, with their military. Many art and songs that have been produced by the Hojo clan are about their past deeds, fighting and doing battle against other strong clans - such as the Sanosuke. This only ever increases the already militant image that the Hojo clan has in the eyes of outsiders.
Yet an expert on the clan will be able to dispute any claim that the Hojo are stuck on being focused on military achievements. As they consider themselves as one of the noble clans of the north the fact that they have researched their origins and seem to be curious about other clans have made it clear that they don't just praise the art of war.
[/tab][Tab | Jun Clan|]
The Jun clan is a small settled clan in the Lightning country. They are in many manners almost the same as the Irozaki clan, as they seem to be quite focused on training and supporting competent members of the military of the northern country. While they don't have access to any particular Hidden or Kekkei Genkai the majority of the Jun clan favours the sword as their weapon of choice. And they train and hone their skill enough to clear out that they're no pushovers. At the present they are one of the few small clans that might grow further into power, seeing that the current Jounin commander's origins lie in this clan. They are also followers of Akemi.
[/tab][Tab | Sanosuke clan |]
img_497b6d7bd5eea.gif

The religion of the northern settlers, mainly Sanosuke clan members. It is a religion that carries the idea that when you die your soul becomes part of the wind. Depending on where your heart lies, you shall be carried by the wind towards that place where your soul shall be reunited with those you loved and cared for during your life. Those who have managed to gain enough respect are often regarded as revered ancestors, the chosen champions or advisors that will aid their family in times of dire need - through a priest communicating with them.

Residing in the most northern regions of the Lightning country are the Sanosuke clans. Great craftsmen and competent sailors the Sanosuke clan hold many of the mines that can be found up north under control. Being thus the main source of metal trade they furthermore have managed to establish a great amount of influence in the time of the Three Sanosuke - which was during the tenure of the Fourth Raikage. With the Fourth Raikage, Jinyaru Sanosuke, the clan saw a steady rise in the ranks of the Lightning country's military.
This rise wasn't met with any resistance as their old rival - the Hojo clan - weren't particular thrilled with that. While no conflict flared up between the Sanosuke and the Hojo, their rise to power and increased influence has made the Sanosuke gain an interesting position in the political atmosphere in the Lightning country.
An interesting thing that one can discover about the Sanosuke clan is that there are some differences in those who live in Kumogakure and in the northern cities established by their clan. In the north, many of the old Sanosuke traditions are followed and honoured, such as Blood Fight - which is seen by outsiders as barbaric.

[/tab][Tab | Akinian Empire |]
The Empire of Akino.

Political situation :

The clans of the imperial realm of Akino have a different political atmosphere than their counterparts in the Lightning country. This isn't just because there are more, but also because there is a bigger diversity in cultures and how much each sway and influence a clan has in the empire. This can create a situation where clans might not be capable of producing forth a kage that leads the realm when it had been the Fire Union, but that doesn't stop them from gaining more influence through all kind of manners. While it is fair to say that the Hon clan has one of the biggest amounts of influence with the current ruler being from the said clan and culture, I will explain why it isn't true to state that the Hon clan are the only clan that matters in the realm.

First, I will point to various historic events of the RP. Various clans have gained prestige from achievements in the past. How does this make them more prestigious or capable of having more influence/sway in the realm? Most, if not all, cultures in the Empire view history as important. Prestige and honour are gained through what ancestors and clans accomplished in the past. Names are as important as they inform somebody of one's origin and (likely) culture as manners. Together with those names come the natural sense of dread or respect. Being aware you're facing a member of the Uchiha, Hon or practically any known and feared/respected clan on the field of battle can instil a certain dread or other emotion.
But back to why some clans in the empire are holding more sway than others and how the political atmosphere in the empire is build up. While there are no nomadic clans in the empire, there is a clear line that almost divides the empire in half when it comes to making a difference between clans. One could argue that there is a divided amount of clans that have kekkei genkei and clans who don't, but it is quite superficial to compare clans on their genes and KG's. I even dare say quite lame as a clan is so much more than the abilities a character can have when their origins are from certain clans. No, the differences that are quite present is both simple and complicated.

Let's first start with separating the clans. Most, if not all, clans in the Akinian Empire have as similarity that their belief/religion is based on, or has a certain kind of, ancestor-worship. I already pointed out in the previous large post that we could divide the imperial clans in those who believe and don't believe in the Sage, but let's take it a step further.
You see, the Akinian Empire has certain clans who have a history that goes far back and has impacted the land and even influenced the empire in the present. Certain historical events and achievements have made it possible that for example, Konohagakure is the centre and capital of the Akinian Empire. Or how the military of the nation is considered one of the strongest at the present. To not make it too complex, I will try to not go too much into details - as I can literally delve in this and bring up a gigantic amount of facts that can contribute to how the Akinian political situation is shaped thanks to the clans and their 'achievements'.

First, we need to understand and take a look at the Uchiha clan. What? Yes, fun fact: your characters will need to know this as they will have been taught at the Academy history and been explained various matters. In fact, this happens in the Lightning country and the Republic - basically everywhere. History (and culture) are intertwined and in the setting important (as I told before, a source of pride, prestige and honour).
To start easy, I will make a top five of clans that currently are the most powerful and influential in the empire - not in chronological order! - :
1. The Uchiha clan.
2. The Hon clan.
3. The Cho Clan.
4. The Sarutobi clan.
5. The Hyuuga clan.

An interesting theme that one can spot from this top five is that there is a certain rivalry going on between the Uchiha-like and the Chonobi cultures. This can further be seen in what the empire has been reformed into. The military has a clear influence from the Hon clan, which isn't surprising as the clan has managed to obtain many high positions with their members. Their reputation as fierce warriors has further contributed into that the empire has taken over a lot of their martial traditions in the military as designs.
Does this mean that the Hon are the most influential clan in the empire? Well, no. They have earned their stay in the top five, but their biggest rival is the Uchiha clan.
While many will consider the source and pride of the Uchiha clan to be the Sharingan, one shouldn't be so quick to think that. The Uchiha clan have managed to obtain a lot of influence and power through sheer diplomacy, managing to surprise foes of old with sneaky deals and managing to have even avoided large wars by setting up deals with people, who consider them as their allies but are seen as mere vassals by the Uchiha. It is for that reason that many of the laws and civil manners aren't coming from the Hon clan but from the Uchiha clan. While they have members on high ranked positions in the military, they are 'outnumbered' by the Hon, but this isn't the same as in the bureaucracy of the empire. Which is still a big deal, mind you.
Now why the Cho clan? That is one that can be explained with one word: wealth. The Cho clan isn't just large and been influential in many events, but they have also managed to gain a lot of connections and interactions which have seen them rise to become of the richest clans in a short span of time. Most of the trade in the Akinian Empire is being influenced by the Cho clan and not just in goods.
Then now why the Sarutobi? They are a large clan, but don't have many members on high ranked positions or nor are they quite the wealthy clan. Influence, however, doesn't just come forth from those sources. The Sarutobi clan has so far used their ties to obtain various influential positions - such as the Captain-Commander of the Sworn Swords, which are considered the crème de la crème (the best of the best) of the military force that the Empire has to offer. With gaining favour of the Empress the Sarutobi clan is on the rise and might make it far if they keep it up.
The Hyuuga clan is now also an interesting clan. They aren't the most liked or loved clan in the empire and has even suffered - unknown to almost any character - an assassination that was ordered by the crown, they are still an influential clan. They have contributed some shinobi and soldiers that have brought renown and prestige to the name Hyuuga. There is a good reason why the Byakugan is world-wide known and desired by many.

[tabs][Tab | Uchiha Clan|]
180px-Uchiha_Symbol.svg.png

"Our pride lies in this city."

"The Uchiha clan is one of Konoha's biggest clans. As co-founders of the Shinobi capital of the Land of Fire, the Uchiha view themselves as caretakers of the city which they will protect with everything they got. Part of the reason the Uchiha have always kept such a good position in the world, next to their diplomatic cunningness, is, of course, because of their Kekkai Genkai: the Sharingan. The copy-wheel has always proven to be an extremely useful tool in battle and can instil some justified fear in those opposing it. The Uchiha are a proud of their heritage (and have a legit reason to be proud of it as well) and value dedication, hard work, loyalty, and visible achievements that prove that one is adding to the community and the city at large."
- Fieryfly, the leader and 'creator' of the Uchiha clan in the RP.

The Uchiha culture is based on their faith in their ancestors. In everything, they do they believe that their ancestors are watching over them, judging every step they take. From a young age, the children are taught to always honour their ancestors as it is those people who brought them on the path that they are on now, the path of prosperity. Not performing to the best of your abilities would put a shame on their name and they will strike back at you for that causing ill luck to befall you. Putting shame on the name of your ancestor is the worst fate an Uchiha can befall. In their eyes, it is in every way worse than death. No one will acknowledge you, no one will look at you, no one will deal with you until you have redeemed yourself. The Uchiha are also of the belief that the Sage of the Six Paths existed and brought the shinobi arts into the worlds. For them, the Sage is something akin to a holy figure. They see him as the beginner of their greatness, something akin to their shared ancestor.

The Uchiha clan is easily one of the most prominent clans that have a lot of influence in the politics of the Akinain Empire. Their prestige isn't just from founding Konohagakure, but more so that they were a strong faction during the Warring Clans period. Their Kekkei Genkei is often what people consider their source of power, but the Uchiha clan has proven themselves at a lot of times to be quite the diplomats and strategist. Next to their known achievements of having been able to produce two Kages and surviving the Warring Clans period, a fun fact is for example that the Uchiha clan managed to avoid to ever fight against the aggressive Hon clan by setting up treaties and deals with other clans, often gaining more than the other party - which has led to the view that the Uchiha clan considers some other clans as their 'vassals' instead of allies. Thanks to their expertise in diplomacy and influence the Uchiha clan has gained a lot of high positions and can be considered as one of the top dogs in the empire.

While there hasn't been any armed conflict between the Uchiha and the Hon clan, it is interesting to know and be aware of the fact that the two clans have a certain rivalry going on. If you read what I wrote before, you can perhaps compare the Uchiha-Hon situation with the Hojo-Sanosuke situation in the Lightning country.
Another important and fun feature as fact is that the Uchiha culture has the Yobina and Nanori. At their birth Uchiha children are given not one name, but two. The nanori, which will be the formal name that they will use in public life alongside their surname, and the yobina. The yobina is a personal name only used by immediate family, close relatives and intimate acquiantances. Meaning that only a handful of people know this name. As such the yobina carries a rather significant meaning with it as it is a name that is only used in close family context. When a man and woman get married they signify this bond symbolically by telling each other their yobina. Telling your own yobina or even worse the yobina of a family member to someone who has no right of knowing the name is a terrible deed. Sharing it, however, with an intimate friend will show the faith one has in that friend. Might that trust be twarthed then the blame lies with both parties, but one can be sure that the friendship is over. People take great offense when their yobina is used in the wrong context or by the wrong people.

If anything the yobina has a symbolic meaning. The name tends to have more weight than the nanori. A child that gets scolded by their parents in their yobina knows that it is time to step down. A son that gets ordered by his father in his yobina knows that he should heed these words especially well. Lovers using each others yobina when they are alone in the house are said to live happily ever after.

[/tab][Tab | Chonobi Clans|]
An important aspect of the Chonobi culture we have to discuss first are two things. First is their language. Chonobi is the language shared between the three clans, which is also considered by the three as part of their heritage and highly valued. Taught to them at a young age, it is so valued and held close that it is considered squandering their culture to share their language with others. This, of course, made difficult to learn as the people of the three clans usually speak the language with each other and rarely it is taught to others. This has various reasons :

- It is considered part of their heritage. Not something that they will share just with anybody - seeing that it is due to traditions of old to keep it to themselves. A big impact likely is still from the Warring Clan period where one's culture and heritage was everything.
- It isn't that many Chonobi doesn't speak the common language as their language is often just spoken between those who are familiar with it. While it is in many cases their first language, it is rare to meet a Sarutobi, Hon or Cho who isn't capable of speaking the common tongue.
Many books of the culture are also written in Chonobi. This is not just because the three clans are quite keen about their own culture but after four (or more) centuries of almost constant strife, chaos and distrust with neighbours the progress of sharing more of their culture is at the moment slow.
It is thus that many books that detail known facts and parts of their culture are written by outsiders, as there have been several curious studies on the clans by others.

Another aspect that is vital to know and not many are known with are Lineages. These are like the Chonobi language held close and considered quite personal. It is a way for the members of the Chonobi cultures to keep others separated upon introduction towards one another, but to no-Chonobi, this is often a rarity to hear. In some cases, the family/lineage name bears the name of the founder where in other cases it holds a certain meaning. It is thus constructed as when written down :

'Surname --- Personal Name --- Family/Lineage name'.

An example would be thus :
'Cho --- Aiko -- Jing'.

When, however spoken out in a western manner, it is slightly different :

'Aiko - Jing - Cho'.

Several lineages are known of both PC's and NPC's [ to the players ] :

Lineage of Sigeberth :
The story of Sigeberth goes back almost ages ago. It was a time when the Sarutobi clan had their kingdom of old. It was a time that many researchers, scribes and wise men would claim to be in the Warring Clans era, but those known with the legend of Sigeberth claim it goes before that.

Sigeberth was the seventh son of the king in the reign, Theodulf. It was a bloody time and era for many and the Sarutobi weren't an exception. The Sarutobi were locked in a bitter conflict with a clan who's named has been long lost and were suffering defeat with each siege and battle. Morale was started to drop and the Sarutobi were pessimistic about their fate, yet they continued to fight against what they considered their impending doom. Sigeberth was just at the age of ten when he would be drilled to fight as it wasn't just a war anymore about losing some land. It was a war of survival, one that would decide if the Sarutobi culture and people would be subjugated to some foreign clan.
On the battlefield which many considered the end of the Sarutobi kingdom as the enemy had the advantage of the numbers, a valiant effort was made by Lord Theodulf and his force. An attempt was made to slam through the enemy's defence to take out their leaders, which saw many Sarutobi killed. In the hour of the wolf, however, an arrow managed to find its mark. Shot by a young boy, Sigeberth, the arrow that had been fired drilled through the right eye of the enemy clan lord, making him drop dead from his mount.
With this loss, the enemy army suffered a heavy morale blow as the Sarutobi started to fight even more fierce. There was a small bit of hope shining through that made the outnumbered Sarutobi try harder to claim the day. Eventually when the day was over a lot of Sarutobi laid dead on the ground. Either with their face down in the mud or on their back, staring with starry eyes at the sky becoming darker. But much more that fought with the enemy had been killed. It was the first victory, the turning point in the conflict.

Many more battles followed after, where the Sarutobi started to gain more victories. There were several setbacks, but eventually, they managed to rally more of their kin to join the battle. Four years after the first victory the end of the war was in sight. Both sides had bled a lot and the seven sons of king Theodulf were now with just two. A truce was signed between the old enemy and the Sarutobi, allowing them to enjoy once more the comfort of peace.
As he was now an old man, king Theodulf had suffered a lot. He didn't just see the kingdom of his father and of his ancestors being damaged and suffering from the aftermath of the war, but also saw many of his beloved ones die. The teeth of time clawing together with sorrow were a too deadly combination and soon after the truce Lord Theodulf passed away. His passing gave rise to a new problematic situation as Theodulf had only two remaining sons. Sigeberth, who was just barely fifteen years old, and Alcuin, who was a year younger. Because of the inexperience with politics and the age of both boys a regency council was formed. Doing the best that they could, the regency council managed to rebuild some of the kingdom, but it would take years. In those years both boys were groomed for future leadership as the council wasn't yet sure which of the two was more fit to lead. By the law of primogeniture succession, Sigeberth was the rightful heir of Theodulf, but some had more profit with making Alcuin the next king. Strife started to grow among the regency council as preparations were made in secret by both sides to make sure that their choice would end up on the throne.

When Sigeberth reached the age of twenty a ceremony would be held to herald him as the king of the Sarutobi and successor of Lord Theodulf. During the ceremony, however, those who had hoped for Alcuin to succeed his brother made their move. A paid assassin made an attempt to rob Sigeberth of his life. This failed and saw panic and chaos spreading. After the failed attempt the members of the council that had sided with Sigeberth made it clear that this was all Alcuin's doing.
What followed is often different with each teller. Some claim that Sigeberth and Alcuin instantly started to rally support and locked the kingdom into a bitter succession and civil war. Others claim that the brothers tried to resolve the strife as Alcuin never stated desire to rule, by loving his brother more than desiring to rule. Not that it really mattered as a conflict would follow. Instead of fighting soldiers and foes from another clan and realm, it was now a conflict of brothers against brothers. Mothers betrayed their daughters and daughters stabbed their fathers in the back. Plunged once more into the chaos and misery of war Sigeberth did all he could to make the fighting stop. Though unwilling to end Alcuin's life it became clear that it was the fastest way to stop the internal conflict that was weakening his kingdom and people. Pursuing Alcuin and his supporters wasn't as easy.
The truce with their ancient enemy was close to ending and the internal strife made the Sarutobi yet again another easy target for their enemies. Realising this Sigeberth decided to lure his brother into a trap. Feigning that he was sick and tired of the conflict Sigeberth used the love his brother had for him to sign a peace in which Alcuin would be raised to become the king.
Hesitant at first, Alcuin eventually was persuaded to meet Sigeberth to discuss peace. While he brought many armed guards and warriors to ensure that Sigeberth wouldn't have an easy time to dispose of him, Alcuin's death wouldn't come by steel. As the brothers discussed the peace and how things could have been they toasted and feasted together. It was decided that Alcuin would be raised to the throne and as long as he wouldn't have any sons of age Sigeberth would be Alcuin's heir. Many had peace with that as only a few saw a profit in continuing the conflict.

But as night would fall after the decision having been made Alcuin would start to choke. Sigeberth had already managed to leave with many of his faithful company, making way back to the capital to spread the news - something that Alcuin had condoned. Realising that his older brother had betrayed him in the most dishonourable manner, Alcuin managed to find the strength to speak a curse over his brother.
Brother that is no longer considered mine, I curse you! Curse you to the thirteenth generation of your blood! You shall be cursed!"

Shortly after that, Sigeberth managed to rebuild the kingdom. Peace returned as he would grow his fame with doing several heroic deeds, such as slaying the large boar Danno. Eventually, Sigeberth passed away in peace with being at an advanced age. Those who were aware of the curse of Alcuin considered that it was nothing but a threat. It was almost forgotten until the chaotic end of the Sarutobi kingdom happened. Those from the lineage of Sigeberth were forced with the other Sarutobi to flee from their ancestral lands. Attempts made to lead the Sarutobi failed as the rumours of Alcuin's curse was remembered and spread. As the Sarutobi managed to establish into their current homeland those from the Sigeberth lineage are still considered to be cursed - though not shunned as many do remember the heroic deeds that are told of Sigeberth.

The Atsushi lineage was founded by nobody other than the revered hero-figure Atsuhi the Smith. Atsushi stories mostly revolve around him forging a particular tool, armour, weapon or piece that will enable him to gain more renown and respect among his kin. He isn't, however, without his own tales of fighting against adversaries with his own weapons, having done battle against rivals and enemies of his lineage. His image of being a skilled craftsman and fighter has caused many artisans and those with a military career regard Atsushi as a great example.

Those who have his lineage are often encouraged to follow his footsteps to become either an artisan, crafting armour and weaponry that could perhaps equal that of Atsushi, or become a soldier/shinobi for the clan. While many stories are known about the revered ancestor the descendants of the Atsushi lineage are the most prideful about the origin on how the lineage was founded.

It starts with the forging of the White Blade as Atsushi wanted to craft a weapon that would pass through his generations, both as part of his legacy and as a reminder for his descendants that they should strive to become allowed to enter the halls of Akumu to be allowed to stand with their ancestors. Atsushi crafted many blades with various designs, but he never could grow satisfied with what he considered a sword fitting to be passed down. Many materials were tested, even what was stated to be living wood and breathing stone. But not even material that would baffle many people today or confuse them wasn't fitting enough. Frustrated Atsushi was close to giving up and desperation drove him almost to stop with his craft as a smith.

Eventually, the Smith heard the story of the dangerous Dragon Turtle that terrorised the surrounding of the city of Ecla. Its was said that the shell of the Dragon turtle was harder than any known metal and knowing that he wanted to try the tough material that formed the shell of the mythical dragon turtle was certainly worth the risks.

Using his wit to outsmart the slow and dangerous creature Atsushi was regarded as a hero and with the desired material he crafted what is known as the White Blade. Ever since then Atsushi's descendant have both tried to emulate their ancestor's achievement in craftsmanship or martial skills.

"We Remember."

"Hardened by conflict and steeled by ambition as resolve the Hon clan stands proud as one of the prominent clans in the Empire. While having endured many conflicts the pride and resolve of the Hon clan to strive forward hasn't withered away. Known for their disciplined and hardened warriors the brutal efficiency of how their leaders are raised is one that is both respected and feared, by both foes and allies alike."
- Gerontis, the leader and creator of the Hon clan.

The Chonobi culture worships and praises ancestors that have managed to do something worthy to gain such respect, praise and love. There are various subtle differences between the three Chonobi clans but the main theme resolves around to maintain the respect of your ancestor and winning your own place with them in the afterlife.
What makes the Hon belief different from the other Chonobi is that they don't pray or worship their ancestors or their deities. The concept of praying and worship is almost foreign to many that follow this belief. This is because the Hon believe that the Great Wolf gives strength and courage to every person and that it is all that they will need. Making offers and praying will only provoke the anger of the deity, making it rare for a Hon to ever be serious with a prayer. Ancestors are revered and respected by trying to emulate their deeds or to not forget them. How this happens differs between families and even individuals.

The Hon clan is a clan that has quite a militant mindset and culture. Their culture as belief is aimed at strengthening oneself and being part of the clan and culture. They have a bloody history, waging many armed conflicts and raiding other clans and cultures. Their success, however, has also led to their current position of influence and might in the empire.
With the Empress having her roots in the Hon clan, many do also assume that the Hon clan influence will only grow further. This is already quite noticeable in the Imperial military, with the various reforms and stricter discipline being invoked in all military corps.

The Cho clan has different rituals and manners regarding their faith than the other two Chonobi clans. They have more manners and rituals that originate from the Moon which holds an important role in their religion. While they do support a more pacifistic manner of live, there is nothing against those who follow a military career. While tolerant towards other religions, it is known that the Cho faith is quite 'hostile' towards those who praise bloodshed and sacrifice of humans.

The Cho clan is one of the wealthiest clans in the Akinian Empire, thanks to their amount of trade and treaties with other clans and factions residing in the Empire. Their culture is

"The word loyalty has a lot of meanings for the Sarutobi, regardless of which sub-clan part they originate from. Having a history from which they draw pride and honour the Sarutobi aren't like many clans united with one clan leader or council governing over them. Split in various factions and groups the Sarutobi people are strong, but not united. Over the ages the people of the clan have been staunch allies of the Hon and Cho clan, fighting in their conflicts at their side. While obtaining more influence and power as a whole clan, there is no united front of the Sarutobi. Yet."

The Chonobi culture worships and praises ancestors that have managed to do something worthy to gain such respect, praise and love. There are various subtle differences between the three Chonobi clans but the main theme resolves around to maintain the respect of your ancestor and winning your own place with them in the afterlife.
The Sarutobi are somewhat different in their beliefs because of their rituals. Understanding the word sacrifice is a big theme for the Sarutobi people. Not too surprising seeing their history and troubles. They do pray and bring offers to their ancestors and deities that they hold responsible for various aspects of the world. Much akin to the Hons the Sarutobi faith doesn't provide a pathway on how to be considered a 'good' person. This is left open for interpretation.

The Sarutobi clan is divided into various groups, such as the Blackroot Vale and Edani Sarutobi. They still have many things in common in terms of culture and beliefs as traditions, but there are differences between each group. This both creates an interesting scenario as a problem. Each sub-clan is being led and governed by their own council, which can be seen as the (lower) nobility that does come together from time to time in Ardara - the cultural capital of the clan - to discuss matters that involve the entire clan. But for the most part, each sub-clan minds their own business and affairs, which also cause friction among each other.[/tab][/tabs]

- Rusty (And Ice), the leader of the RP's Hyuuga clan.

" (archaic, many know of, but few believe)
Originally the Hyuuga believed themselves the personifications of Tian (AKA: Sky or Heaven), but over time have grown away from said belief. In its place, the majority of Hyuuga have been leaning more towards other, or no, beliefs, though continuing the thought that they're blessed in some way. The clan currently believes that their eyes/bloodline originate from the sage of the six paths."

The Hyuuga clan aren't a clan that has the advantage of wealth, numbers or holding a large sway on the politics of the land. They are, however, still listed as a prominent clan for their prestige as their dojutsu is worldwide and next to various achievements of some Hyuuga teams during the Great War. Much as how the sharingan is worldwide known and both feared/respected as desired, so is the Byakugan by many others. In particular foreign factions that have some benefit in having a few (pairs) for themselves.

- Jason, the leader and creator of the Hanta clan.

The Hanta clan aren't perhaps a prominent clan in the empire nor particular renown. On regard of their culture and beliefs, they are quite similar to the Uchiha clan. While there isn't much more that I could detail on a political level about them, it is interesting to note that the Hanta clan are one of the few non-dojutsu or kekkei genkei clans that also follow the idea/belief that the Sage was real.

"Ever the same, ever the different"

"Seers, witches and mind seekers. The Yamanaka are known for being both a people of song and dance, not really fixated at martial achievements or possessing a militant mindset nor preference. They are one of the three clans that make up the Yakimara culture (the other two being the Nara and Akimichi clans)."
- Lesli, leader of the RP's Yamanaka clan.

The Yamanaka clan is a great example of the Yakimara clans and culture. A people that aren't fixated on achieving accomplishments on the field of battle or bringing forth the best shinobi. They have their own Hidden, but it can be argued that it isn't just used for matters that is useful for shinobi. The reason why the Yamanaka culture and clan has survived for long doesn't also just lie with their alliance with the Akimichi and Nara clan. With many clans in the Akinian Empire having an ancestor worship, it isn't of any surprise that the seers of the Yamanaka clan are desired for their claimed ability to communicate with the dead. While there have been various events in which the seers have been declared witches and charlatans it is known that striking down a Yamanaka seer doesn't bring any luck. Various times the death or abuse of a Yamanaka seer have lured out bad luck or accidents that made it clear that something or someone is watching over the Yamanaka seers.

Thanks to this many clans seek out the Yamanaka to perform rituals and communicate with their ancestors, even if some are still sceptical. Next to their seers, the Yamanaka clan does have their own military. While it isn't in any way capable of competing with the likes of the Hon, Uchiha or any militant clan as the numbers of the Yamanaka soldiers and shinobi is rather low, their Hidden and training in stealth has allowed them to become quite capable of counter-intelligence and subterfuge.

[/tab][Tab | Hyuuzu Clan|]
"This is going to be a pretty brief summary as I will be hopefully getting the full clan sheet up soon. Few things I have to iron out still. Anywho, here is the Hyuzu clan culture summary:

The Hyuzu clan is a clan steeped in mystery and, for a long time, that is how they preferred it. Secrecy kept them safe and gave them a competitive edge over some of the other clans. That secretive nature is slowly being chipped away as the new generation of Hyuzu seeks to become more involved and more open with others. This will be a time consuming process however, and there are still many who view outsiders with wary eyes.

Internally, the Hyuzu clan follows a hierarchal structure that is centred under the Elders. The Elders make the key decisions for the clan and are responsible for holding and collecting all of the knowledge and secrets of the clan. The Elders are protected by the Dragon Guard, an elite force that was created to watch over the descendants of the 'First Dragon.' Recently, the structure has changed somewhat as the Elders have been removed from power and control over the clan has fallen to a single individual. Currently, Jora Hyuzu.

One of the key factions within the Hyuzu clan is the Smiths. The Smiths are responsible for creating some of the finest weapons and armours around. These pieces are highly sought after and the clan gains much of its wealth from its trade of goods. The Hyuzu clan that resides in Konoha has a trade agreement that they have established with the Cho clan. As such, they have a fairly good relationship with the Cho clan.

Two key elements for the Hyuzu clan are: their dragons and their metal release. The Dragons have been around and tied to the Hyuzu clan for almost as long as the clan itself has existed. Clan members can partake in the Trial of Dragons for the chance to be bonded with a Dragon for life. This is a rite of passage for many, but it is not a requirement. Metal release is fairly prevalent in the clan and those who inherit the kekkei genkai usually follow one of two routes: joining the Smiths or becoming shinobi."

....
Well, Chrome pretty much covered most of it for me. Can only add that the Hyuzu clan are a growing clan and perhaps might push the Hyuuga clan of the top 5 prominent clans. This is thanks to the growing imperial favour they are enjoying. Though they aren't the full Hyuzu clan as one could state that they have been divided. One being in the Akinian empire and the other being the ruling clan as the daimyo of the Earth country is a Hyuzu.

[/tab][Tab | The Republic |]

The Republic of the Water Country.

Political situation :

The situation within the Republic regarding clans is quite different compared to most, if not all, countries. The majority of the people in the country haven't a big love for clans, but this doesn't mean that they aren't any prominent clans in the Republic. One of them is even a death one that had somewhat of an impact on the country. The Suzu clan was quite prominent during the founding and first few decades of the Water country. Raising assassins and operatives, the Suzu clan boasted that they were the best assassins and death bringers. Perhaps a bit too good as they got wiped out almost out of existence after the Great War, which resulted into a power vacuum. Which didn't result that any clans took their place, but that the power got mostly distributed to the seat of Mizukage.

The political situation is in a way more flexible with the lack of prominent clans in the Republic. With the [young] oligarchic government form, however, there might be a chance for a clan to dominate the political field of the Republic without the lack of a clan that has already claimed the seat.[/tab][/tabs]

"You determine your own path, no matter how low you start."

Name:
The Tokugawa Clan

Village:
Konohagakure

Estate:
Vindex- meaning Protector, or Guardian
The majority of the clans resides here in the place where the rise of the Tokugawa started. What was once a small fort grew to large proportions, Easily capable of housing over a hundred thousand people. A true relic of what one can do. Farmland is plentiful for both crops and animals, a true place where one can feel safe. It's walls are strong enough to hold off defenders and take its fair share of punishment.

Traits:
-Most members have Dark hair, but have been seen with lighter colored hair like blonde
-They have a natural affinity towards Genjutsus and Earth ninjutsu.
-Most are taught basic strategy as they feel it's vital in life. Those that don't learn are considered nothing more than weak minded children.
-They are known to be sly people by those they have faced, and those that seen them work.
-Many people share the Tokugawa surname, but very few are actually related. The surname is more so a badge of pride, to show that while your start may have been the bottom of the barrel, you can rise to the top.
-They are top notch defenders, capable of surviving several raids from the Hons, and holding out against several combined minor clans.

"Some say sly, I say great with words."

Cho Clan- Friendly but also slight fear
Has a peaceful bond with them, due to the trade deals that their clans went through in the warring clan period. Thus have no qualms against them, they consider the Cho clan great business partners and would love to keep this bond going strong for more years to come. Yet such a wealthy clan like them is also very dangerous. Which is why they try to stay on the Cho's good side.

Hon Clan- Mutual Respect
Starting out indifferent with their raids on them from the past, evolved into a mutual respect for one another, with the Tokugawa respecting them coming to their side in battle and for being the only one who never presented any opening for them to take advantage of. They also believe they earned the wolves respect for being able to defend against them, while providing them with the chance to fight clans they never could.

Sarutobi Clan- Respect
They never really engaged too much with the Sarutobi, and they personally rather not have any hostile engagements with them either. Seeing how they fought the Hon and had their aid in their joint war. They are people worthy of respect, and they leave their interactions on a respectful level.

Hanta Clan- Amused towards
Well they are amused by the Hanta, the Hanta have shown a clear dislike towards the clan ever since the Warring clan days. Ever since the grudge was never truly forgotten, and every time they are reminded of it. The Tokugawa can't help but chuckle a bit while sipping some Bloody Victory, as they find their grudge to be nothing more than child's talk.

Uchiha Clan- Wary
Not much can be said about their relationship, they aren't friends, but also aren't enemies. Both seem to have a wary attitude towards one another at most due to events of the past. For the actions the Tokugawa committed, and the possibilities of what the Uchiha can do.

Hyuzu Clan- Friendly
Another clan that was a trade partner from years ago, the two clans never really fought and instead decided to simply trade with each other instead. That trade deal still goes strong to this day, and that's where the Tokugawa would like to keep it as well. As they rather not lose their smithed goods they provide.

Nara Clan- Great respect
While also having a trade deal with them which increases their opinion on the clan, they also respect the clan for its use of strategy. It wasn't many clans back in the past that they saw use strategy to stay alive, most hoped their numbers would be enough, and alas most of those clans are gone. So seeing someone use their intellect to survive makes them respect the clan even more.

Honmura Dynasty- Loyal
The clan is loyal to them until then end, no questions about that.

More clans to be added later!

Rise of the Tokugawa

The birth of the Tokugawa clan wasn't a great start, they weren't even a clan on the map either. They started out as nothing more than slaves to a now extinct clan, The Miyino. The story starts from a young slave called Shigato Tokugawa, born a slave into the tyrant clan his life seemed to be set in stone. His hope was crushed early on when he realized just how his life would be, for several years he would be forced to tend to the crops while his master did nothing but lazed away. If he was slow he was beaten, if he talked back he was beaten, he was to be nothing more than a mute slave that did what he was told. Then one day as he was tending the fields with cuts on his arms along with bruises to show a recent beating. A woman around his age held out an apple for him. Yet he knew who this woman was, she was the daughter of the clan's leader, her name was Keela, so he just ignored the offering and would continue to work. Yet instead of scorn she just said it would be okay, and she would be back tomorrow. Sure enough day after day she would keep coming no matter how many times he ignored her, until he eventually let his guard down enough to take the apple. As they grew older so did their bond to the point it started becoming intimate. Yet troubles would arise when Keela would find out she was pregnant, this if her father found out would spell doom for Shigato. So she proposed a plan, she would marry one of her father's men. That way they would think the child came from him and not Shigato, it was a plan Shigato reluctantly had to go along with.

So his son Yamato born, himself still a slave. His life seemed to always be one at odds until one day a situation presented itself. The clan leader and a good bit of his men left to go out to crush a bandit outpost that's been bothering them as of late. He left a few men back at base but not enough to overcome a revolt. The only problem is, Keela. Every time he mentioned the unfair treatment to her, she would just reassure him that when she became leader, that this treatment would all end. Yet now a situation presented itself to him, and all the slaves have already suffered enough. He had to make a choice and he did. The village was filled with silence for a moment and after several minutes the roars of all the slaves rang through the village. Keela came out too see all the slaves outside the house, Shigato was standing at the front of them all. She knew he had made his choice and surrendered willingly. This was also the first time he was able to see his son, yet the owner would soon return and drastic actions would be taken. Keela became a hostage and with all the previous guards dead, the slaves went into hiding with weapons ready for an ambush. A couple of hours would go by but they would return, with way less men than he left with. The clan leader was furious and demanded the return of his daughter, yet Shigato demanded that they hand over all their weapons and they would become the new owners of this town, and they would leave the village. Having no choice with his daughter held captive, he agreed and in a pile all the weapons were place. That's when Shigato gave the signal. Arrows and spears would start coming out of open windows impaling all the clan's men, until they all laid on the ground dead. Keela was distraught by the deceiving Shigato just committed.

All the previous clan's men were now dead and Keela was crying over the loss of her father, she yelled at Shigato for his lack of patience, it might have been a few more years of the horrible treatment, but her father was on his last legs. She would inherit and she would abolish slavery, Shigato tried to console her but she pushed him away and would hand him Yamato before walking away from the village forever. The clan Miyino was now lost in the passage of time, what to do next was now lost on Shigato, yet everyone ha ideas of their own. They would all pledge themselves to Shigato and would bow before him, yet he shook his head and told them to rise. If they were going to be in this together, they would do it on an equal level. Yet they insisted he become their new leader a more compassionate one, just one that knew what must be done. He reluctantly accepted the position and the clan Tokugawa was born on this day. From this day on, they would start rebuilding the clan to how it should have been, they reinforced the walls, started expanding, they even welcomed new people into the clan. The clan was growing again, and for the better as well.

The Warring Clan Period

The year was 184 the Tokugawa clan had by this time outgrown what the Miyino clan once was. Shigato's health seemed to be deteriorating at this point in time. Shigato was training his fifteen year old son on what was done as clan leader, so he could be ready to succeed him when his time had passed. Yet this was also the year when all hell broke loose among all the clans, the start of the warring clan period was upon them. Shigato had to quickly adapt and start applying more time into their military force and be prepared for whatever may come at them. It was also at this time that Yamato suggested something as well, instead of just waiting the era of bloodshed out. Why not try and profit from it? There were clans much smaller than they and could be ceded into their fold. So when he asked his son who he wanted to attack he shook his head. Instead of wasting more men than needed, they should look to strike the ones on the brink. Attack when the opportunity presents itself, Shigato was surprised by his son's words but smiled as well. He could leave the clan in his capable hands when death came for him. This was the tactic they would apply as well, striking clans that were recently raided and ceding their people into their own fold. It took the defeated clans some time to get used to their new leadership, yet something about Shigato made them happy and proud of their future.

It was around this time that Hunan was born and was sadly neglected a good bit as during the time the Hons began to start raiding them with such aggression. As such more time was put to defending and adapting to the raids, which is what Shigato put the last of his energy into. Managing to halt the raids in the year 206, his sickness finally caught up to him and he would pass away in his home with his son and grandson at his side.

Sadly several years later the same would befall Yamato, who hadn't been able to prepare Hunan as he would have liked. He managed to gain little in his time as leader, only getting their land a small gain before the same sickness that took Shigato, claimed his son as well. Hunan having no experience in the role of a leader was taken advantage of very quickly as clans began raiding them and doing significant damage. He was a meek leader and just let these things happen, yet not long at all since his father had passed would Hunan join him. Yet it wouldn't be sickness that claimed his life, it would be one of his general's blade that claimed his life. Yet he didn't fault the man, it was for the best this way. He was inexperienced and would only be the fall of the Tokugawa clan. So with his dying words he made Mercury his killer the new leader and set a new law that should the leader die with having no children, the leader would be the general. The last words to come out of his mouth was that Mercury reminded him of his grandfather Shigato. That possibly he was his reincarnation and was saving the clan yet again. Hunan would pass away this day and several things would come from his passing, their retaliation against the attacking clans, and their new belief system Buddhism.

It took a bit to get their footing again, yet once they were restored they started their expansion again, claiming several smaller clans bringing them into the fold. Mercury became known as Shigato's reincarnation, and even went a few steps above what the first clan leader was able to achieve. He made trade deals with what he had to the other clans. It started with the Cho clan, giving them basic but vital things. Grain, linen, wool, for their export of Iron. With that they were able to better gear themselves. Then came the Nara to their south, giving them some crops, fresh water fish, and a little bit of iron. They would acquire much needed medicine that has taken the lives of two of their leaders. He established bonds between their clans and the Tokugawa, it gave them the medicine needed for many people, and the iron would help keep them better armed for when they attacked. It was because of this that they started almost thinking of Mercury as a bit of a god, yet he never let those words get to him and feed his ego. During one battle though that they won, he also found out that his son had perished in that same battle, it was the first time Mercury had lost in his mind. A time of peace would follow, before Mercury would pass away from unknown causes. The assumption was old age, as he wasn't sick, yet the new leader was a man that had been rumored to be a war specialist, able to adapt to whatever the enemy threw at him. Keiji Tokugawa, a man also loved by the people took the position and quickly set his sights on their first big target. He spoke that this attack if a success would allow them to thrive for time to come, it just required a lot of patience.

Sure enough when the man was in his forties, the Hanta would battle the Hon with the Hon beating them back, only to get another force led by Keiji to attack the Hanta so soon after their battle with the Hon. This time however the Uchiha would ask them to step down or they would join the battle. To which Keiji responded with his own reinforcements, the Hons and Sarutobi. Beating the Hanta back proved to be no effort, yet the Uchiha was what caused the war to drag on longer than he had originally planned. It was this that caused Keiji to be both wary and respectful of the clan, yet the odds were in his favor. So a deal was proposed to the Hanta so they didn't fade from history. A deal which was accepted with a lot of resentment, a grudge that would carry on over the years. Land would be gained for both forces, with the Hon and Sarutobi gaining a majority of the profits due to their help. It was due to this joint war that earned both his allies respect, and the raids from the Hon to end. Yet with the new land they gained, they would use it for fruits, and with said fruits start making their own alcohol, with their main speciality being called Bloody Victory. With this new export of theirs, they started a trade with the Hyuzu. Giving them animal products, fresh water fish, and their alcohol export. In return they received smithed goods. Weapons, armor, tools. Goods much better than their own. With age catching up to him, Keiji began conquering smaller clans. This caused the smaller clans near them to fear their demise and formed a coalition to take Keiji down. A force while still beatable, was large enough to cause significant damage, so a message was sent to the Nara with the promise of some of the attackers land should they help. They agreed to help, yet the attackers were already beset them. The battle would cause a lot of bloodshed, with one of the units the one Keiji was in, being killed to the last man. It was said that Keiji was the last man standing among his troops killing many before the number gain was too much for him, and fell in battle.

As such a message was sent to his son in law Ynnir that he was the new leader. His first large battle and he was thrust into position of leader. He was able to rouse the men with a speech, after their morale was destroyed and shortly afterwards their allies would join the battle, in which they would beat back the combined force and would kill their leaders, causing mass panic and a fallout. The rest of their forces were wiped out and as promised, the Tokugawa split the land they received with the Nara. After such an event, Ynnir would go about strengthening his clan's defenses to the best they could be. He focused more on domestic and relations than he did war. He crushed all forms of bandits in his land and set forth the foundation of his clan's lands. It was rumored that during his reign he declared not one war and fended off all attackers with ease. He was the one that saw the end of the warring clans period as well as witnessing the finding of the leaf of which the Senju and Uchiha founded. Its recorded he dies peacefully with his entire family around him. Yet it would be his great grandson Bamalon who took control, as the son and grandson wanted to live out the rest of their days in peace.
---
Bemalon was able to secure a place for his son and several others within Konohagakure. It was a few at the start but over time he was able to migrate around four hundred to Konoha, where a compound for them was built and was kept alive with their own exports. Bemalon effectively set in motion their culture, their laws, their traditions. He built the foundation his great grandfather Ynnir set up for him, and built it up he did. Bemalon was there for all the events that transpired, which might be reason why his mindset became more confused the older he became. Yet his love for his people and new allies was true, and when the great war happened, he saw his people through it and would help his country survive. A bit of the Tokugawa felt the effects of the Great war including his son. Who after the loss of his wife and daughter choose a cowardly way out, leaving his son Leo alone. Bemalon pitying the boy took him under his wing and instructed him in the ways of leading the clan as it would be his one day. So when the boy was eighteen years old he would both see the end of the Great war and the life of his grandpa Bemalon who passed away in the arms of his grandson. With his grandfather's life over, Leo did the best he could leading in his place and was doing fine in keeping the peace between his clan and the others until the Shoji occupation happened, where his clan was forced to bend their knee to the man for what they considered an unbearable amount of time, to them it was like being back in the time their ancestors were slaves. So when the opportunity arose for them to strike back, he allowed it subtly at first until it all blew over at Magnhild where a force was gathering and a force the Tokugawa would greet with everyone else. A good chunk of the Tokugawa's military would help defend the Hon's land, and it would also be where a large chunk of that force would meet its end as well. Yet Leo kept his own men inspired to keep fighting refusing their clan to go back to the same fate they had hundreds of years ago. It was this that showed his men a faint shimmer of Keiji Tokugawa, and the men would fight on. When reinforcements had arrived, the Tokugawa knew they would live to see another day.

Glory For All
Every year they hold a tournament where all are welcome to join. It's a place to showcase your prowess in battle, and the one to make it to the end is showered in riches. It's not a tournament where the losers die, so to avoid this. Battles are done with practice weapons. It is said whoever wins the tournament is given enough riches to retire, and have his offsprings family retire as well.

Father's Respect
A tradition more so for the military families. When one wishes to marry a woman of age, they must prove they are a man and are capable of providing for her, by besting their father in a duel. Should you win, you earn the father's respect and approval to marry his daughter.Marriages that happen this way are said to last for life. Should you lose, you must wait one year before trying again, and breaking this is considered a huge disrespect not only to the father but his entire family and ancestors. It is also said all your future lives will never marry. If you also have children in this unrecognized marriage, they are considered bastards and their own future lives will never marry.

April 7th Remembrance
On this day the clan holds a festival in which all are allowed to attend, as this day holds special significance to them as the day they went from slaves to their own leaders. As such they honor the Tokugawa that saved them from that fate, and hold the festival the entire day. It's a place where food, talks, and fun is found on every street.

Adulthood
The adulthood for most members of the clan is considered 18 years of age, yet one way to be considered an adult sooner is by joining the military, in which the youngest you are allowed to join is 16 years of age. Should you join, you are given the rights all adults have and are treated as such. However should you join at such an age you must stay with the military for two years until your 18th birthday. Should you leave and by all means you are, you will be stripped of adult status and be considered a child until you are 20 years of age.
---
The Tokugawa has three version of a greeting. Their is the open palm placed against the chest bow. It represents that they think you are a benevolent person, one that loves the people.
They then have a curled fist against the chest bow, it's more so done during war to show their allies they have the strength to live to see another day. It can also be used when something bad happens, it can be interpreted as the one making the gesture giving the other their strength to see the next day. Then they have both the open palm and curled fist against the chest bow. A bow to show that you are both a compassionate person, yet knows what needs to be done. A bow more often given to fellow leaders.

Sharks also are considered the clan's mascot so to speak, yet they don't own any but more so admire the creatures as they are a form of inspiration to them. Shark must keep swimming in order to survive, and as such they see that as always moving forward in life. With their clan start they know they must keep moving forward in order to live. As such the sharks are considered sacred creatures and must never be eaten in their lands. As they consider it an insult to denounce the creature or bring it harm on their grounds.

They have a ritual that when a great leader is about to pass, they surround them with objects that held great importance to them. In hope that when they pass, they are brought back within the clan as the same person, it may be under a new name, but they believe that the soul will carry the person's being into the next life and he will be the same person as the deceased leader.
---
They are a believer in Buddhism, in where once the dead passes away they are also reborn. This way great leaders of the past are born again and will honor their world with their presence forever. There is also Karma in their religion where the bad leaders they have, may be saved and given another shot to be great in life instead of evil.
Very few however, mostly the descendants of the previous clan leader honor their ancestors. They don't carry their name with them, but they honor them as if they were gods of their own.

As very few member have the abilities to perform ninjutsu and such, they found no need to waste time in creating a clan secret technique. The few that can perform ninjutsu usually align with the clan leader's family, and those that joined the clan out of interest. Those that show interest in further learning about it, are simply allowed to go join the academy. Yet the few that do come from the clan to learn, are usually well versed in Genjutsu and Earth Ninjutsu. However that doesn't mean everyone knows that, some do use water Ninjutsu.

Name:
The Tokugawa Clan

Village:
Konohagakure

The village was filled with silence for a moment and after several minutes the roars of all the slaves rang through the village.

Should you win, you earn the father's respect and approval to marry his daughter.Marriages that happen this way are said to last for life. Should you lose, you must wait one year before trying again, and breaking this is considered a huge disrespect not only to the father but his entire family and ancestors.

[/tab][Tab | Clan Relations |]

-----
The Warring Clan Period

Accepted by me as well.

Off to the Clan thread with this one!

As some of you may already know, I've had some personal things come up that are a bit overwhelming. I'm going to have to back out of New Gen for some time, so I am sorry to any this may inconvince.

Until I can come back, I've given up control of my characters to Gero (Mizuchi), Fiery (Ryu), and Rusty (Tomiko).

I am still waiting to hear if Taishiro will be taken over or not, but if he isn't that is fine I suppose.

Thanks for the great rp, and I hope to come back soon.
