Morning-- 8:00 AM. In the bathroom mirror, slender fingers fix a black ribbon. Just like the past 31 days, an unfamiliar face stared back at him. Tight-lipped; stern. His narrow face made him appear unfriendly; cool and distant. No time to dwell on it, he needed to get to the guildhall. He switched the light off and left the bathroom. At the door where he left it the day before, his brown loafers leaned up against the wall. Today was his first official day working as a member of Fairytail. He would be lying if he said he wasn't nervous. Nervous because of the unknown. Nervous because he didn't know anything about his mysterious destiny.

His shoes were on now. Just twist and a push, he would be outside away from the sanctity of his apartment. It was now or never, he mentally reminded himself. Atherton walked outside.

"Ah, good morning Atherton. Where are you off to this morning?" Out in the hallway, a kindly woman greeted him. With a basket in hand, Atherton could only assume she was heading over to the market to buy today's groceries. "Erm...I'm going over to Fairytail's guildhall. I'll be taking on my first job today." The woman, his neighbor Rowena, gently stroked her swollen belly listening to his response. She broke into a broad smile soon after. "Oh that's right! Well, congratulations! I knew you could do it. Wait, hold that thought, before you go, I have something to give you." Before Atherton could politely reject, the woman disappeared into her apartment just across from his.

Eventually, she returned with a small box neatly wrapped in patterned cellophane and topped off with a bow. "It's a gift from me and Edward. Go on, open it!" With a grateful—and admittedly, an embarrassed—word of thanks, Atherton carefully pulled off the wrapping paper and opened the box. Inside was a small lacrima charm attached to a little bell and leather loop. Holding it up against the light, it shimmered the entire color spectrum. He smiled in awe. "It's supposed to bring you good luck if you keep it with you. You never know, right?" The sentiment truly touched his heart.

"Thank you, Rowena. It's beautiful."

---
With every step he took, the little bell of the charm jingled. The guild wasn't too far from his apartment building, but it did take a good 15 minutes to get there. Atherton didn't particularly mind since it gave him time to enjoy the fair weather. The early morning jitters almost went away completely...until he found himself standing outside the gates. It all came back to him at full force. He told himself he'll eventually get used to it. Think of it like a second home! Yes that's right. That's what Mirajane told him yesterday. She said she'd help him get started working at the guild. The thought relaxed him somewhat. It was now or never. Atherton walked past the gates and pushed open the large wooden doors.

The guildhall was mostly empty. Perhaps it was still a little too early. Nevertheless, he walked between the wooden benches towards the bar farther in the back. Mirajane was drying some cups when the sound of his footsteps caught her attention. "Oh, good morning Atherton. Are you ready to go on your first job?" Atherton gave a small nod, "Yeah." The young woman came around to lead him towards the request board. Every job ranging from hunting magical beasts to escort requests were kept here for display. Tilting his head up slightly to read the ones farther to the top, he felt a little lost. "How about we find something easy...oh! Maybe this one? The client wants some help with delivering a magical artifact."

A magical artifact? From what Mirajane was telling him, the client needed some extra protection while the caravan containing the relic moved in between towns. A detailed map of where the caravan would be traveling was included on the request. "I think it's a good idea to have you bring someone else along. Now...who would be available to tag along?"

Haru Okami

The sun was bright and low in the sky as Haru stepped out of his house. Yes, house. Being a solo mage allowed Haru to keep whole rewards to himself, letting him buy his own house. Though the house was simple and by the edge of the city Haru loved it. Looking up at the sky Haru breathed in the fresh morning air and watched as the light, fluffy clouds passed by. They seemed to make shapes the longer he stared at them, but Haru knew he needed he head to the guild soon. Fairy Tail, the strongest guild in Fiore, was Haru's second home. His home away from home. It was place for everyone that needed a home, if they needed a home. Many people in the guild, like Haru, have dark pasts and while that's okay sometimes pasts come back to haunt them.

Take Haru for example, he lost his whole village at only 11 years old. Looking back he wished he took his training more seriously, maybe then he would have been able to save his family. Shaking from the thought Haru started his walk toward the guild. It wasn't a long walk, but it gave him time to think of a possible job he could go on today. It had been a week since his last job and Haru was beginning to get low on money. It was definitely time to take a mission. Maybe a simple one? Or maybe he could take a harder one? Whatever one he took Haru was positive it needed to be a little challenging, Haru loved a challenge.

As he came upon the guild Haru couldn't help but take it all in. Every time he walked through the doors it felt like the first. Those large doors that lead to his second family, his second home. A smile placed on his face Haru threw the doors open and sauntered in. Not many people were there but that was usual for this time of day. The only ones that ever made it here this early were Haru, the Thunder Legion, and the Strauss siblings. Today seemed to be different though as standing at the board were the newbie and Mirajane, the white haired she-devil. Walking over Haru saw the gleam in her eye as she looked from him to the newbie. Shaking his head Haru greeted the newbie and Mira, "Hey, you looking for a mission too newbie?"

Mira smiled the gleam in her eye saying, "He sure is! It's his first mission here at Fairy Tail." Then came the devious look, "Say Haru, why don't you join him on this? Everyone needs a veteran member for their first mission."

An exasperated sigh escaped Haru as he looked at the she-devil. Grabbing the request from the guys hands Haru gave it a look over before saying, "Sure, I was meaning to go on a mission anyway." Turning to the newbie Haru extended him large boney hand saying, "My names Haru, nice to meet you newbie."
