Welcome to Membuka, a small village nestled in a world filled with magic and mystery. In this roleplay, you will start out with a simple villager as your character, and you must complete quests to unlock new areas within the little village, new types of characters, and maybe even new worlds. You can have a job, get married, and have children, or you can explore, discover new places and new things, and meet amazing new people. The choice is yours.

*Note: These are rules AND guidelines, which is why they are so long!

1. You must follow all the rules of Iwaku and all the rules of this roleplay. Failure to do so will result in a warning, and further failure to do so will result in being asked to leave the RPG.

2. Mary-Sue characters (characters that are essentially perfect) and godmodding (overpowering or controlling other characters and creating all-powerful characters) are strictly prohibited.

3. You are expected to be kind, courteous, and respectful towards other members.

4. Your best effort in writing is expected. We must be at least able to read and understand your posts in order to respond. There is no minimum length requirement here.

5. You may begin with one character and it must be a human. Additional characters are earned after every 20 unlocked items and more species can be unlocked in-game.

6. Advertising other RPGs is not allowed here.

7. The setting of this RPG is old-fashioned and medieval. All futuristic technology, clothing, etc. is strictly prohibited.

8. When you have completed a task to unlock something new, make sure to tag the post by adding an OOC note at the bottom with the name of the area/species you've unlocked (include all if the post unlocks multiple items) so I will make sure to take note. If you don't do this, I may miss the post and not update your profile. The tag should look like this:
((OOC: Unlocked elves and Waterfalls))

9. Please be patient with the GM! I have a lot to do, between work and my family life and roleplaying, so be understanding if I don't get your profile updated immediately.

10. You must unlock the locations within the area you are currently unlocking before you can begin unlocking locations within the next area. Also, to prove that you have read these rules, please include 'magic' as one of your first character's likes.

11. You are permitted to perform certain tasks to receive "credits" which can be used to skip tasks you may be having trouble with. There is a list of these tasks along with the rest of the tasks and you need only leave an OOC note on the task the same way you would any other task to receive the credit. Credits can be saved and banked as long as you need to.

12. To get a job, simply post in that area saying you'd like a job - include an OOC note the same way you would if you unlocked something. You MUST have unlocked the required area for that job. To maintain a job you need to post at least 3 times per week in that area with your character performing their job. If you haven't posted three times by the time your weekly paycheque comes in, you will receive a warning message. If it happens again, you will be fired.

13. Pregnancies in this RPG last two weeks. Babies do count as additional characters. Also, to really prove that you have read these rules, please include the word 'red' somewhere in your first character's bio/history.

14. You will start out with 100 gold. If you get a job, you will get a weekly paycheque every Saturday. If you spend any gold on purchases in your posts, please specifically mention how much you spent so your profile can be accurately updated. You must spend a minimum of 10 gold on all purchases and you cannot obtain new items without buying them first.

15. You will need to cooperate with other players in order to complete some of these tasks. Don't be afraid to message them asking for help, and don't hesitate to help out anyone who messages you.

16. Other people cannot visit locations they haven't unlocked with you, even if you have unlocked them.

17. Rules are subject to change without notice and you are expected to read them regularly in case of changes.

Humans (basic, unlock by joining)
[BCOLOR=transparent]Humans are your typical two-legged beings. They have unique appearances and personalities, but no unique abilities and no [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]magical powers. [/BCOLOR]

Superhumans (unlock by unlocking 20 items)
[BCOLOR=transparent]Superhumans are like regular humans, but they have unique powers - every superhuman has one special ability. It could be physical, such as super speed or strength, or mental, such as telepathy or predicting the future.[/BCOLOR]

Witches/Wizards (unlock by posting in the Mysterious Tower)
[BCOLOR=transparent]Witches and Wizards are like humans, but with magical powers. They can control the six basic elements and cast simple spells. With practice, they can perform more complex spells. Witches and wizards are not immortal, but they age slower than humans and superhumans.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Elves (unlock by making 10 posts in the Enchanted Forest)[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Elves don't understand where the stereotype of them being short originated. They stand as tall as humans, but with pointed, slanting ears. They are a peaceful species, though there are dark variations. They have powerful elemental magic and extremely long lifespans.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Fairies (unlock by entering the Fairy Circle with an elf character)[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Fairies are another species thought to be small when they aren't. They also stand at the same height as humans, with elongated lifespans similar to those of witches and wizards. They have glittering wings in the colour of their primary element - air, earth, fire, water, light, and dark - and they have strong natural magic in this element.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Demons (unlock by killing off a character in the Darklands)[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Demons are mysterious beings of darkness. They each lean towards one of the seven sins - greed, gluttony, lust, wrath, envy, pride, and sloth - and like to cause havoc and problems. They resemble humans, but have black or glowing red eyes. They are immune to natural deaths but can be killed.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Angels (unlock by visiting 5 locations in the Sky Realm with a fairy character)[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Similar to humans, these immortal beings have feathered white wings. Their magic centers around goodness, peace, and harmony.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Vampires [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent](unlock by completing quest "Fiends of the Night")[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]Mysterious, bloodsucking fiends of the night, vampires are pale-skinned and human-looking, but with razor sharp fangs. They are highly sensitive to the sun and it can burn them, and they drink human blood to survive. They are immortal, but can still be killed. A human character can be made into one of these characters if it is bitten.[/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]Werewolves [/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent](unlock by completing quest "Fiends of the Night")[/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]The immortal enemies of vampires, werewolves act and appear as normal humans during the day - at night, however, they shift into bloodthirsty wolves. With experience, they can gain the ability to control their shifting and even remember what they did while they were changed. A human character can be made into one of these characters if it is bitten.[/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

More coming soon!

Lookout Point (unlocked by exiting the large doors in the Stronghold)
Wow! You can see your house from here! Well, not exactly - these tall mountains have you above even the clouds. You can just barely see the tops of the trees in the Enchanted Forest. It's still breathtaking to realize just how high up you are.

Snowy Peaks (unlocked after visiting five locations in the Mountaintops)
These peaks are so high up and cold that snow has fallen on them! They are beautifully scenic, however.

Ski Slope (unlocked after building a snowman or making a snow angel in the Snowy Peaks)

Deadly Cliffs (unlocked by stealing 200 gold and at least four valuable objects from the Thieves' Hideaway)

Witches Lair (unlocked by making a post containing the word "evil" after unlocking all other locations)
This dark little cave is filled with all sorts of magical items - tokens, spellbooks, potions, and anything else you can imagine. There is also a mysterious door with intricate runes all over it nestled into the cold stone wall - where will this door lead?
The Spiralling Tower (unlocked by passing through the door in the Witches Lair)
[BCOLOR=transparent]This tall, twisting tower offers an excellent view of the Darklands - a land shrouded in darkness, filled with death, decay, and pure evil. The tower itself is mostly empty, with a few tomes in strange languages and bubbling potions, their contents oozing over the edges of their containers. A spiral staircase leads downwards and out of the stone tower.[/BCOLOR]

The Dark Forest (unlocked by exiting the Spiralling Tower via staircase)
[BCOLOR=transparent]Exiting the tower will bring you into the forest. These twisted, gnarly trees have black leaves and seem to hiss when the wind blows. There is no light in the forest unless you bring one of your own, and it can be difficult to navigate. It is dangerous and filled with bloodthirsty monsters and creatures of the night.[/BCOLOR]

The Haunted Mansion (unlocked by making a post in which your character thinks they've seen a ghost)
[BCOLOR=transparent]This elegant yet run-down old mansion is tucked away in the forest. It's said to be filled with ghosts and monsters, but really it's just filled with old books and dust and junk. If you manage to stay the night, do you think you'll unlock something new?[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]The Blood River (unlocked by making a post that uses dialogue in the village hospital)[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]This wide, powerful river is red as blood - is it blood, or just a trick of the light? Nobody is sure - vampires won't drink from it, but neither will any other species. Only the darkest of the dark will bathe in these red waters.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]A creepy little place in the woods, mostly empty but for a hunched-over innkeeper, a tall and gaunt bartender, and a few spooky patrons - the bulky one-eyed man in the corner and the white-haired witch who sits at the bar all day and all night. You can rent a room for the night here, and you can also get a job, if you're comfortable in these working conditions. NPC characters controlled by PrincessLala95.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Elemental Mysteries - GM must be contacted to begin this quest. While exploring the Magic Castle, you find a book all about the elemental orbs of power. To unlock the next area, you must locate all these orbs and take them to the Mysterious Cavern. GM will tell you how to locate them in a PM.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Nerissa's[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] Cave[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] - The powerful dragon Nerissa lives in a deep and dark cave, raising hatchlings to spread her evil and darkness around the corners of the world. Although she is nearly indestructible, these young dragons can be destroyed before their evil can spread. You may complete this quest once every month. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] In order to destroy the hatchling, you must find the following somewhere on the internet: one picture of a dragon (cartoony is allowed), a picture of a gemstone necklace the same colour as the dragon, and a picture of a sword the same colour. The dragon is the hatchling you will destroy, the sword is the weapon you will use, and the gemstone will provide you with the power you need.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] To obtain the necklace in-game simply purchase it for 50 or more gold from the marketplace. To obtain the sword, take the necklace to the blacksmith and, in a post of at least 250 words, tell him what you need. Leave the necklace with the blacksmith for at least two IRL days and when you return, you may receive the sword for any price above 5 gold.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] Go to Nerissa's Cave and write out your battle scene with the hatchling! It must have at least 500 words and four paragraphs. In your first battle with the hatchlings, you must be injured badly enough to merit a trip to the hospital when you finish. In any following battles, however, you are permitted to sustain only minor injuries.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] Once you have written out this post and posted it, the soul of the dragon will be trapped in the necklace. You may choose to include that in your post if you wish, as it will help contribute to the required length. You may then sell the necklace to one of the GM characters for your choice of 200 gold or an extra task credit.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] Please note that this quest can only be done once a month and you may not use the same pictures multiple times. You may also not use the same colour the next month - if your first battle is with a green dragon, you cannot battle another green dragon the next month, even if it is easy to find pictures of them.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Fiends of the Night [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]- To begin this quest, a vampire or werewolf in either the Crypt or the Werewolf Cave must bite you. It can be an NPC controlled by you or another person's vampire/werewolf character. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] Once you have a bitten character, you must perform all of the following tasks. They do not need to be done in any particular order, except for tasks 5, 6, 7 and 8, which must all be done in order.. Please specify in an OOC note on the related posts that you are doing them for completion of this quest.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] 1. Have your bitten character have a six-post-long (or more) dialogue with another character.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] 2. Make a post that includes a detailed description of the vampire or werewolf that bit you. It must be based on a picture off Google, which you will include in your OOC note as a link. This post must be at least 500 words long, but that doesn't have to be all description - the description can be said in your character's mind, as dialogue, or just as description.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] 3. Have your character return to their house (if they have moved into the Enchanted Forest or the Darklands have them go to that house, obviously) and spend at least three posts there. One of these posts must have them contemplating life and death.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] 4. Have your character visit the cemetery in the Village. This post must be at least 250 words long and must contain the word "silly".[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] 5. Have your character visit the Potionmaster to ask if there is a cure. The Potionmaster (you can control the NPC or have a GM do it) will tell your character that there is, and will have them collect the ingredients.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] 6. Collect the following ingredients for the Potionmaster: a vial of melted snow from the snowy peaks, a jar of water from the Magical River, the petal of a glowing flower from the Garden of Shadows, a dragon's scale, a strand of unicorn hair, and a glass of a drink offered to the bitten by the Temptress. Each ingredient must be collected in a separate post, and each post must be at least 300 words long.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] 7. Take the ingredients to the Potionmaster. Again, you can control him or have a GM do it. Leave him alone for 24 hours - you can spend this time doing tasks 1-4 if you haven't yet, or just RPing normally.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent] 8. After 24 hours of RL time have passed since you gave the ingredients to the Potionmaster, you may return and receive your cure. If is your choice whether or not to drink it - if you choose not to, your character will turn after another 24 hours. If you do, your character will remain normal.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Completion of this quest will reward you with the ability to create vampire and werewolf characters, along with a bonus 20 gold.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Get married[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] - [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]Say your I do's and marry another person's character for a task credit for both of you.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Have a child[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] - [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]Pregnant? Having a baby can earn you a task credit! Limit one credit per pregnancy (even multiple births) received by both mother and father.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Hold the same job for 4 weeks[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] - [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]As tempting as it may be to get a new job once you've unlocked the required area, holding that job for four paycheques will earn you a credit[/BCOLOR]

Recruit another member to our RP - We're always looking for new friends to join us, and if you have friends you think might be interested, you can receive credits! Limit of one credit per week. Only valid if new member creates a character and makes at least 10 posts of RP.

Aideen stood in front of her mirror, hazel eyes scanning her appearance for flaws. She had no reason to look perfect today, she just always wanted to - it wasn't often that she met people here, anyways. The villagers of Membuka had yet to discover the existence of the Enchanted Forest, though she was sure they would eventually start to enter. She smoothed out her short dress over her slender hips, the dress made of a satiny material that was black with tendrils of orange and red fire twisting its way up her body. She smiled to herself, fluffing up her light orange hair one last time before she decided that she was satisfied with how she looked. She quickly grabbed her heavy black velvet cloak and drew it over her shoulders, tucking her wings beneath the material so they would be hidden.

Turning on her heel, Aideen made her way towards the door of her room. She had decorated the whole room to her standards - all her furniture and decorations were black, red, and orange. The walls were dark red, the floor was black carpet. She had a few pots around the room with flames that she had frozen - they were not hot to the touch, nor were they dangerous. They were flicks of fire, captured and preserved. She had considered going to the marketplace in the village to sell them, but she wanted them to be a novelty and hard to get. Her fingers curved around the doorknob and she stepped out into the hallway. The castle was like a fancy hotel, but also like an apartment complex. Each room had a washroom and a small kitchen area where residents could store and prepare food, so Aideen spent a lot of time in her room.

She paused thoughtfully, running her hand lightly through her long hair. She needed to run down to the village and buy some more food, so keeping her wings covered was necessary. Though she was sure the villagers would be open to the knowledge of the Enchanted Forest and other species, she didn't want to be the one to break it to them. They could find out on their own, and until then, she would hide her wings away and keep her identity hidden. A light sigh left her lips; hopefully she would find someone nice to talk to. She hated being so introverted when she visited, but if she opened up and chatted, she might accidentally reveal something to them. She began to walk briskly down the hallway, her wings fluttering uncomfortable under the cloak.

Elias drew his dark, long coat about himself as he made his way through the trees. The closer he was to society, the stronger the visions were. They never focused without direct contact, but they were enough to drive him mad.

As he drew further and further away from town, the visions faded and Elias was able to enjoy the silence and the peace of the forest. At least, until he began to catch the faintest glimpses of something else. There was a vision in the back of his mind, and a strange building up ahead. A castle, he realized. There was someone there, he knew it, but the constant humming of one vision was far better than that of hundreds.

Aideen quickly made her way down the stairs, her cloak billowing behind her gently. As she reached the bottom, the cloak settled and she felt that pressure against her wings. It hurt. Her wings were highly sensitive and she hated the pressure put on them by the cloak. Hiding them was an unfortunate and painful necessity. She hurried to the door, deciding that she wanted this trip done and over with as quickly as she could, and she pushed open the heavy door of the castle just enough that she could slip her tiny figure through the crack. She paused a moment outside, gazing around. She loved this place. The forest was so peaceful and beautiful. It was lush and green, and being in it filled her with happiness and calmness. Calm was good for her, since she tended to get fired up very easily.

Elias caught sight of a figure slipping out of the castle and he began in its general direction. It was a girl, he noted as he drew closer. The vision grew stronger each step he took toward her, but he pushed it from his mind.

A distant rustling noise came from nearby and Aideen snapped her head around. There was someone approaching, who was it? Where were they? Her hazel eyes scanned the spaces between the trees for the newcomer. Finally, she spotted a man approaching. He wore a dark coat and she paused a moment, taking the time to admire how attractive he was. Yes, he was very attractive.

As the woman caught sight of him, Elias held up his hands to show he meant no harm, stopping a short distance in front of her.

"I didn't expect to find anyone out here," he said.

Aideen raised one eyebrow slightly as she looked at the attractive man before her. She fought back a slight smile as he spoke, and instead chose to give him a curt nod. She gently ran a hand through her light hair.

"I didn't, either," Aideen replied softly. "I happen to live here, however. Why are you here?" she asked him, tilting her head ever so slightly to one side.

"I..."

Elias paused, unsure exactly how to continue.

"It's complicated," he answered.

Aideen quirked one eyebrow slightly, and then folded her arms over her chest slightly. She looked up at him for a moment, trying to hide a sharp wince as her wings tried to flutter unconsciously beneath the cloak.

"Look, I can't tell you what to do or where to go, obviously," she said, "but I have some stuff that I need to get done, so I'm going to have to cut this short. It was nice meeting you, and bye," she said quickly before hurrying past him, her feet quiet against the forest floor.

"Damn it," Elias swore, turning to go after her against every instinct. This was such a bad idea.

"Wait!" he called, jogging to Aideen's side.

Aideen slowed as she heard his voice call for her to wait, looking over at him as he caught up with her. She gave him a quizzical look, running her hand lightly through her hair again.

"Yes?" she asked softly, giving him the slightest of smiles.

Elias fumbled for words, knowing he'd run into the girl for a reason, as it always was when he met anyone by such random chance. Finally, he gave up trying to come up with something clever to say and instead opted to say, "I'm Elias...and you are?"

There was a little house on the corner of the Street of Town, and in front of it was Pearl with her fruits basket on her hand. She was going to buy new shoes at the Marketplace, since her shoes were so old and dirty. After locking the house, Pearl walked on the Streets of Town, heading to the Town Square which is the center of the town. It is her favorite place and she often visited there just to sit on a bench, watching the birds fly and enjoying the soft winds. Pearl passed the Town Square and got into the Marketplace, making her way to a shoe shop through the crowd.

Pearl didn't take too long time to choose the shoes she liked, and after purchasing and putting them on, Pearl made her way to the Bakery. While walking, she opened her wallet and saw there were only 50 coins left. Her parents usually sent her 100 coins at the start of the month, and this was only the second day of this month. I guess this is time for me to look for a job, Pearl thought.

When she reached the Bakery, she went in. The smells of the cake and the bread were so nice that Pearl thought she could eat the smell. Pearl quickly bought some bread which spent 6 coins, meaning there were only 44 coins left in Pearl's wallet. "Oh my, I need a job," Pearl muttered. Then an idea suddenly came onto Pearl's head. Why don't I just work as a Baker?

Pearl then came towards a Bakery worker and asked, "Can I apply a job as a baker?"

(OOC: Can Pearl be a baker?^^)

((Certainly, just make sure in your OOC tag you include the names of everything you unlocked! I believe you got tavern, town square, marketplace and bakery with that one so I've noted it down, just correct me if I'm wrong, and you are now listed as a baker!))

Aideen smiled up at Elias, wondering if maybe she had found a companion for her trip. Having company would be nice, certainly a welcome distraction from the excruciating pain that rippled through her delicate wings with every slight motion that dislocated the cloak and shifted it to apply pressure someplace new. It hurt like hell, especially since Aideen's wings sometimes fluttered unconsciously on their own, especially when she was happy.

"My name is Aideen," said the fire fairy, her voice taking on a cheerful tone. "It's nice to meet you, Elias," she said, allowing his name to delicately roll off her tongue.

Elias grinned. "And a pleasure to meet you, Aideen," he replied, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his coat rather than offering one to Aideen.

Aideen's hazel eyes noticed that Elias had stuffed his hands in his pockets rather than offer to shake. She couldn't help but wonder why. Maybe he just wasn't a touchy-feely kind of person. She'd heard of people who weren't comfortable touching - especially people afraid of sickness they may catch from others - so maybe he was just one of them.

"Are you going anywhere in particular?" Aideen asked him softly. "I'm headed to the village, I need to stop by the bakery and the marketplace to grab some food...you know, to eat..."

"I'll join you," Elias said, "if that's alright."

He flashed her a slight smile. It was a rather idiotic idea to follow a near stranger back into town, he knew, but he couldn't just up and ditch Aideen either. It just wasn't in his personality.

Pearl hadn't been in a good mood that morning but after having a job as a Baker, she felt much happier. She has always liked cooking and baking ever since she was 10.

Pearl started exploring the Bakery kitchen, watching a few Bakers busy baking cakes and bread. The kitchen smelled so nice that Pearl didn't feel like leaving.

And then she came towards a table on the kitchen corner. There was a big cake tin and there were chocolate muffins on it. Pearl thought the muffins were ready and she took them to the Bakery's front etalase.

Aideen gave him a bright smile as she heard his words. It was exactly what she had hoped for - he was willing to join her, to keep her company, and to distract her from her aching wings. She gave him a quick nod.

"That sounds excellent," she told him brightly, and resumed her wall through the forest. "So, does that mean I can ask you what brings you into the forest now and get an answer this time?" she asked sweetly with a light and musical laugh.
