Stuff like this isn't supposed to happen in real life. My friends and I always made fun of this kind of thing, y'know? That nobody girl in movies who was shy and clumsy with a classically tragic backstory that left her alone and miserable. The one nobody ever noticed until suddenly here comes two hot guys that are totally in love with her and somehow she becomes the center of the universe. Or maybe she gains these epic witch powers and fights evil sorcerers at night to help prevent the apocalypse.

I didn't think I was that girl. Not even when my parents died and I spent a few months in foster care.

Then I got adopted by vampires. I can't believe this is my life now. What if my friends find out?

My New Parents Are Vampires!!!

In My New Parents Are Vampires, Jenna Martin is orphaned when both of her parents die in a car crash. She has just been officially adopted by her foster parents, Casey and Miranda Jones: two local pillars of the community in the small town of Black Oak Falls, Virginia. Casey is a successful antiques dealer, and his wife Miranda--while some might call her a "trophy wife"--runs a business out of their suburban home selling her own "re-dazzled" purses and accessories. Adjusting to a new home is tough enough for a teenage girl in her circumstances, but there's just one more thing: her new parents are secretly vampires!

And Jenna Martin-Jones has secrets of her own...

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to My New Parents Are Vampires, a supernatural horror/romance/comedy roleplay based (loosely) on the Silent Pines web series by Diana Calloway (@Diana ) and Erik K. Osbourne (@Astaroth ). We also happen to be the co-GMs of this RP!

red This game is also invite-only, sad to say! Please don't reply here unless you've received an invitation.

This is considered an Alternate Universe setting (really more like a satire of an already somewhat satirical and self-satirical work), and so does not have to strictly adhere to the lore established in the web series. Knowledge of the series is not required to play. However, for those of you who are acquainted, we do have a major ground rule:

Do not use anything that hasn't been established in Setting Fire, White Night, or drafts of Black Sun without first getting permission. We don't want to spoil our series before it's even released!

Other than that, you are welcome to play any staple of generic supernatural YA fiction--vampires, werewolves, witches, psychics, ghosts, or even regular humans! The supernatural aspects are very much a secret from the world at large, so keep that in mind when creating your character.

The hard requirements for making a character are as follows:

1. You must be a current resident of Black Oak Falls.

2. You must have a reason (however small) to interact with the Jones family or at least with Jenna.

3. You must bring something interesting to the table.

There are no set character sheets. Include as much or as little info as you like!

Posting expectations for this roleplay are solidly GIVE-NO-FUCKS

This means no strict posting schedule and no standards for quality beyond being legible, as long as you've got some kind of content in that post for other people to work with. This is not a super serious RP. ONE MORE TIME, THIS IS NOT A SUPER SERIOUS RP. If you've been invited, however, that means we expect you to have the common courtesy to let us know when you don't have time to post for months AND to not go crazy with posting sprees that leave someone in the dust trying to catch up.

Feel free to join the Discord Server and chat with us about the RP!

Jenna Kirsten
Martin-Jones

Female | 16 | Single
HUMAN
Job/Role: High School Junior.

General Appearance: Jenna looks like every other teenage girl. With the hair and the clothes and the cellphone and their weird hat. Her hair is naturally a boring shade of brown, so she’s always bleaching in streaks, colored highlights and so on. Right now she is sporting blond highlights. Favors babydoll t-shirts, loose jeans, cool belts, and loves hats. Likes to paint her nails glittery and random colors. Enjoys experimenting with makeup, but doesn’t like to wear it on a daily basis cause she tends to smear it and mess it up.

General Personality: Jenna fits the typical 16 year old girl mold. She thinks school is boring. She likes boys. Music is awesome. Her favorite band is The Wanted. She’s always texting people on her cellphone and seriously believes people are either A) looking at her and judging her all the time, or B) don’t know she even exists. Jenna will flop back and forth on these two extremes with no rhyme or reason. She is currently VERY VERY VERY sad because her parents are dead. She even has a BIG SECRET she can’t tell anyone about – and it’s not even her new vampire parents.

General History: Jenna was born to normal parents, and lived a normal kid life with nothing shocking, weird or extraordinary.

UNTIL NOW OMG.

Her parents died a year ago. She was in the system for a few months until her new parents adopted her. And boy… did they have a weird secret. Jenna has now been living with them for a couple months getting used to this strange new living arrangement.

Jenna loves sneaking in to abandoned, derelict places to take pictures of them with her phone. She thinks it’s really cool the way nature takes stuff back over.

She likes alligators and crocodiles and all matter of lizardy type things. She also likes turtles and frogs. Snakes she’s not so sure about, because they don’t have legs and that’s weird.

Mr. & Mrs. Jones: WHAT. HER NEW PARENTS ARE VAMPIRES? Jenna is admittedly not as freaked out about it as she SHOULD be. That might have something to do with a little bit of vampire persuasion on Miranda Jones’ part. They seem okay enough people. Jenna isn’t really sure Casey Jones was on board with the whole adopt-a-teenager thing, and isn’t sure if he actually likes her. Miranda tries WAY too hard to be a perfect Soccer Mom and Jenna thinks it’s a little creepy, but gives the woman credit for the effort. The situation is bizarre, and she doesn’t think they’re going to hurt her – but deep down she does fear one day they’re going to decide she’s a snack. So she treads lightly and tries not to make a big fuss about anything.

Harry Rose
Male | 57 (16) | Single
VAMPIRE
Job/Role: Secret Bodyguard High school Junior.

General Appearance: Spiky dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Kind of scrawny and gawky-looking. Horrible and outdated fashion sense.

Current Goal/Purpose: Protecting Jenna without letting her know that he's doing it.

General Personality: Harry is an optimist who somehow never fails to put a positive spin on things and is often the one to break tension or lighten the mood. He doesn't mind being the comic relief (except when the situation calls for intimidation, at which point it can get a little disheartening when it's impossible to take him seriously). Other vampires tend to wonder how the hell he manages to be such a huge dork. He's actually pretty sharp and has very good insight into people, picking up quickly on their moods and habits.

Harry's passion is building and fixing things with his own two hands. He's an excellent handyman and carpenter. He also likes dancing and singing along with the radio to songs that no one finds cool anymore.

General History: Harry was born in 1957 and died in 1973. Maybe his days in the era of Peace, Love, and Understanding are responsible for his... rather unique... approach to undead life. He doesn't really talk about his past much, preferring to "dwell in the now", but he's recently moved to town in the house next to the Joneses and is watching over Jenna on her new father's request. It seems that Harry Rose and Casey Jones have some kind of history together...

Jordan "Jay" Zoller
Female | 17 | It's Complicated
WITCH
Job/Role: Part-timer in a New Age shop, high school senior.

General Appearance: Tall at nearly 6', Jay has thick black hair and noticeably thick eyebrows over chestnut eyes. She loves minimalist makeup and doesn't go out without wearing some matte lipstick and her eyeliner. She dresses like the hipster trash she is, with flannels and skinny jeans and oversized tanktops or tshirts. Dresses are rare, but whenever she wears one it will not be a very fancy one. Jay owns a large collection of choker necklaces and wears one every day.

Current Goal/Purpose: Become an awesome witch and drive away evil forces from Black Oak Falls.

Personality: Curious as a cat, Jay loves learning new things. Whether it be spells or the secrets of the townspeople! All bits of knowledge are important to her and she carries around a notebook (with a spell on it preventing anyone else but her from reading it) which contains random bits of informaton she's accumulated.

Jay comes across as very friendly, but she can count on one hand the real friends she has. Few are those who know her secret of being a witch, and those who do know about it she either avoids them or tries to make them her best friend.

History: Jay lives with her father and younger brother Thomas (14 y-o). Her mother left them many years ago, and Jay visits her every summer in Canada. While she isn't the most popular girl in school, her friendly personality gives her a pass and she is on good terms with nearly everyone. The only reason she doesn't have a boyfriend is that her last summer in Canada left her heartbroken, and she refuses to talk about this Canadian boy.

Jordan loves her job at the New Age shop, and it is mildly messing with her college plans at the moment. Her father doesn't like her practicing so much magic at a young age, but he doesn't really do anything to stop her either. He forbids her from joining any sort of coven or forming her own, but Jordan's found many ways to sneak around and practice magic anyway. Thomas isn't very witchy, but Jay is positive he has some kind of divination gift. His intuition skills are through the roof, whereas she has trouble reading other people's intentions.

Samuel 'Sam' Lee
Male | 17 | Single
CHANGELING

Overview: Recent escapee from the lands of the Fae, trying to piece his life back together.

General Appearance: A number of residents in Black Oak Falls have noticed something of a change in young master Samuel Lee in the last month or so. Where before he was a scrawny, sharp-faced boy prone to nasty looks and leering, he seems to have gained more than a little bit of muscle-mass that plants him firmly in the 'lean' category. He's lost the cockiness he was so well known for, too; in its place is a guarded, cautious demeanour, the kind of look more commonly seen on war veterans and refugees. The loud clothes have vanished, Sam now seeming to prefer a much more cut-down, utilitarian look.

It's like the Samuel Lee of a few years ago has suddenly come back, a few residents and school-mates seem to think.

They're more right than they realise.

General Personality: The Sam of a few months ago was a real piece of shit, to be blunt about it.

Heading up a small group of kids who found their fun by ruining everyone else's, Sam was every high-school junior's worst nightmare. Crafty, smart and possessing a mean streak that the Marquis de Sade would have been envious of, he's spent the last three years tormenting the student body of Black Oak Falls High.

Until suddenly he brought his reign of terror to an end, just a month ago.

The Samuel Lee of the here-and-now seems to have suffered some manner of radical personality shift. Speculation abounds amongst students: brain injury or him going all Jesus crazy are popular theories. His new persona is far quieter, more prone to melancholy than sudden impulses to stuff Freddie Mercer into the girl's toilet head first. As if that wasn't strange enough, he's prone to odd behaviour; seemingly unaware of things that have been common knowledge for years, or somehow oblivious to the pop culture everyone's been consuming.

The whole thing, simply put, is just downright fucking weird. Sam's fellow students are wisely giving him a pretty wide berth.

General History: Most people think they know Samuel Lee's story already.

Good kid who went bad. Good kid who swapped nice friends and a cute girlfriend for drug dealers and problem children, who swapped video games and hanging out for having his own fun at the expense of everyone else's. His friends from three years ago still wonder what changed. His teachers shake their heads and wonder how he went so wrong.

The thing is, they only know half the story.

The Samuel Lee they've been enduring since the middle of junior year isn't really their former friend and A-grade student. The real Sam made the mistake of taking a quiet evening walk around the woods of Black Oak Falls and stumbled across a being he really ought not to have. A being of vibrant feathers and rending claws, beautiful and terrible in her cruelty and malice. She dragged Sam across the threshold between our world and hers, leaving behind a creature forged from feathers, sticks and magic to wear his face and take his place (and fuck up his life).

Cue three years of servitude and imprisonment in the Court of the Tawny Queen. Three years in which Sam's body was slowly warped and shifted by the alien world around him, solitude and torment inexorably taking it's toll upon him.

He doesn't fully remember how he made it back over that threshold, away from the Court of the Tawny Queen and back into the woods of Black Oak Falls: it comes back to him in flashes and patches, terrible dreams of horror and desperate hope. He does remember how he reacted when he found the thing wearing his face squatting in his bed that night, though. And how, when he next came to, he was surrounded by torn feathers and splinters.

Now Samuel Lee is back, a stranger in a strange land, trying to figure out just what the fuck the imposter did to his life as he watches his back at every available opportunity. See, something tells him that the Tawny Queen won't have taken his escape well...

Brock Matheson
Male | 16 | Single (but devoted)
HUMAN
Job/Role: High school Junior/Barista

General Appearance: Light brown hair, normally hidden under a beanie, and green eyes. He stands about 6’0” even and is lean, but not super skinny.

Current Goal/Purpose: To get Jenna to finally say yes to a real date

General Personality: Brock is stubborn as all hell, and when he sets his mind on something he doesn’t rest until he sees it through to completion. Right now his sights are set on Jenna. He is bound and determined to get her to see him in a new, romantic sort of light.

Normally, a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, Brock is pretty well liked at school but his friends don’t really get why he’s so into Jenna, either. Normally they make fun of his crush, but he brushes it off and laughs along with them. He enjoys being the center of attention and constantly is striving to make people laugh. He’s not above making a fool out of himself for a good laugh

General History:
Brock is a genuinely nice guy with a nice family. He was born and raised in Black Oak Falls, and lives with his doting parents, Mark and Janice, and his little brother Reese (12 years old). His family is the stereotypical suburban family where his mother is basically June Cleaver and his father works a 9-5 in an obscure office of some sort.

Brock pretty much knows everybody in the junior class. He’s always been sort of a social butterfly, flitting from one group of kids to another. He started work at the local coffee shop as soon as he was old enough to work, and has been saving up money for a car ever since. Currently he drives an old truck that his parents had kept around and running just for him, but it’s not what he wants at all.

Brock does well in school, and every year has made the starting line up of the basketball team. He’s not your typical thick-headed jock though. His parents made sure that he does well, not allowing him to work unless he keeps his grades up.

Jane Plane
Female | 16 | Ghost
Job/Role: Full time teenage ghost, part time murder victim

General Appearance: Washed out and white all of Jane’s features have turned into pale colours. White almost seen through skin, even whiter hair and faded blue eyes.

Current Goal/Purpose: To get this ghost seeing kid laid.

General Personality: Ever since dying something triggered Jane’s personality. Where she used to be mellow and soft spoken, often a stuttering mess when strangers spoke to her she is now a confident blast of energy. Perhaps she always had it within her, lingering around and too ashamed to come out. Nowadays that altruistic little girl is no more, Jane now only thinks of her own fun and pleasure under the nom that she is helping others not live the same miserable fate as she did.

General History: Jane was murdered. Point. Blank. Period. However, who murdered her and how is unclear. What is clear, however is that no one missed her when she went and died. Unfortunately for her murderer Jane died on a leyline and as such she gained a few ghostly powers that makes her just that little stronger as a ghost. Unfortunately solving her murder is not her priority.

Even when alive Jane was like a ghost. Unnoticed and often ignored. She was the middle child of five, she was an average student, was kinda alright, she was kinda everything but not entirely there. Jane missed that little extra that would make her stand out until the end of life. It was why it was so easy for Jane just to disappear without knowing. It was how when Jane returned as a ghost people didn’t really notice any change. Only those who could see her would notice that Jane suddenly seemed a lot more present than she had ever been alive.

Now that she is doomed to wander anyway Jane is making the most of it. Refusing to let anyone else live a plain life as she had, ignored, friendless and worse of all without experiencing the giddy teenage love she is determined to help all those precious pitiful souls, in particular one kid with an affinity of ghosts. Who had murdered her, how and why were all unknown to the ghost, or perhaps she just didn't like to think about it. In any case, Jane is too occupied living her life through others to even think about her own corpse and justice.

Odessa Grimsley
Female | 18 | Doesn't Care
WITCH
Job/Role: High School Senior, Varsity Queen, Witch Extraordinaire, and part-time employee at the Antique Boutique.

General Appearance: Her beauty lies in simplicity. She has diamond-blue eyes, simple but sharp features, hair that is neither too light, too dark, too short, or too long, and stands at an average height of 5'6" while wearing her favorite pair of combat boots. Makeup isn't an everyday occurrence but it isn't uncommon either. Her dressing style is wild and varied, but her boots and leather jackets are among her staples.

Current Goal/Purpose: Graduate high school. Complete her magical training. Convince her mom that she doesn't have to go to college in order to be successful.

General Personality: Laid back but finicky, Odessa is a bit of an enigma, being able to fit in everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Everyone has heard of the Grimsley's-- so everyone has heard of her, and it often causes distrust and pickiness in who she chooses to be around. Determined, a bit of a spitfire when she needs to be, quaint, sarcastic, and emotionally aloof, Odessa lives by the beat of her own drum and would never think to apologize for it.

General History: The Grimsley's, largely matriarchal in the past few generations, are longtime residents of Black Oak Falls. For generations the Grimsley's have produced magical heirs, both male and female, and for generations Black Oak Falls helped nurture their budding magical potential. There are currently only two Grimsley's in town, Odessa and her mother, Magnolia.

Her mother, who most call Maggie, owns the local Antique Boutique, which was originally opened by her great grandmother. After renovating the shop and having a grand-reopening seven years ago, business has been steadily growing. The shop is large enough to get lost in and a bit quirky, catering to both upscale, vintage, and thrifting shoppers. For those in-the-know, there are magical items for sale as well, though the store-within-a-store is hidden behind an enchantment.

Odessa has yet to travel more than a hundred square miles outside of Black Oak Falls. Luckily for her, she has a fondness for the place, and while she craves adventure, she isn't ready to leave home just yet. She's eighteen, a powerful witch, and can swing a softball bat hard enough to break a jaw. Her father died in a motorcycle accident when she was five, but she only vaguely remembers him. She has too many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and when the Grimsley Family Reunion takes place every five years, her mother likes to joke that the entire town has a reunion too.

Magical Repertoire: The basic witch arsenal; the ability to cast spells, brew potions, mediumship, and scrying and/or divining. Odessa has an active power as well, one that she has been relentlessly practicing for the past few years. A simple, more magical form of telekinesis. Can lock/unlock, open/close, and move small things around with her mind. A lack of emotional control can cause her powers to go wonky, thus her aloofness emotionally.

This is Chastity Ehrhardt:

ee792f3b160147f880bac66f53c3aec9.jpg

By her reckoning, everybody likes her. And why wouldn't they? She's gorgeous. She's smart. She's good at sports. The people who don't? Well, they're just the small-fry haters who can't stand to be shown up. It probably helps that her family is rich as sin and her brother is the hot college guy your friends all want to bang. She certainly seems to be popular with all the boys at school. And why not? As she likes to say, "don't you know all the girls named Chastity are the ones who don't care about it?"

There's just one problem. She happens to be a mermaid, and she gets the feeling the other weirdos in the town might have a clue. The massive, well-maintained saltwater pond on the estate combined with her supposed inability to swim is probably a bit of a giveaway, but the bigger problem is that according to mom, 16 is when "stuff" starts happening, said "stuff" including scales popping up every once in a while, not to mention she thinks she's starting to smell a whole lot like fish. But hey, she's not the only one keeping secrets, and she's sure she's figured out a couple of her classmates are more than just weird. Now if only she could prove it...

Jackson DuCarthy
Male | 15 | Single
HUMAN(of Druidic Descent)
Job/Role: High School Junior.

General Appearance: Jackson is a rather scruffy looking kid, reaching the (temporary) height of 5'5 with a lean yet fit build due to his family having the tendency to spend every summer doing nature hikes or camping of some sort, as well as his own desire to stay in at least decent shape. His hair is a mess of raven black curls grown long and wild enough to hang a little over his emerald green eyes, the rest of his face setting handsomely enough on his oval-shaped face. Some might even have considered him a bit of a pretty boy if he cleaned himself up and wore clothes with any kind of style, but Jackson was one for practicality and comfort more than anything else in regards to his dress. Often his wardrobe consisted of little more than a bunch of plain t-shirts, various plaid overshirts/jackets, dozens of boot-cut jeans, and a mix of sneakers, running shoes, and hiking boots for his footwear. The one odd thing that Jackson owns is a strange pendant around his neck. A gift from his late grandfather and apparently a family heirloom of some sort, it looks to be made of some sort of river stone, with what appears to be a naturally made hole in the center. It's all that Jackson has of his late grandfather and he cherishes it dearly.

General Personality:
A little bit neurotic and very much an overthinker, one will find a hard time finding someone more uptight and serious than Jackson, at least when he's around his peers. He wears this persona around him as a sort of armor, developed over years of having his difference and odd quirks making him the butt of many jokes. Despite this seeming disinterest for the world and seeming frustration whenever he's forced to interact with other people, you'll find he's always willing to lend a helping hand to those who need one, no matter who they are. It might come with more than a few complaints and a certain degree of whining to be expected, but he will never slack off when it comes to helping another person. However, Jackson often to be as gullible as he is generous, leading to him being used by others he thought were his friends on several different occasions throughout much of his middle school experience. As such, in Highschool, he grew more reserved and apathetic than before and saw most people he interacted with a certain air of inevitable suspicion and mistrust.

The presence of Jane in his life, however, has done a good deal to warm him to others with her antics, but he still finds it hard to let his guard down on around anyone else that isn't in his family.

General History: Life can be tough and unfair. This is doubly true when you've got the ability to see ghosts and your parents are convinced you have several different mental illnesses which they try to medicate you for. Not only that, but the ghosts you run into have no sense of timing, personal space, nor any care for anything that isn't their own gratification. So strong our their pulls to this plane that it often drones out their common sense when they find someone capable of actually doing something about them.

And thus is Jackson's life, with well-meaning unprepared parents on one side and the constant wails of the dead asking him for favors on the other. He's just barely managed to deal with it all without actually going insane, albeit it at the cost of his social life being in utter shambles unless he finds other weirdoes like himself(such as Jordan and Odessa, who both make him feel like he sucks for not being able to balance both his own weirdness and being a regular kid nearly as well as they seem to.) However, he's recently become the haunted subject of a rather strange and extremely intrusive ghost by the name of Jane, who seems to have taken it upon herself to try and 'fix him up' with a date, no matter what he has to say about it. While part of him appreciates the thought and having someone who cares, a greater part of him can't get past how completely embarrassing and stressful it is to have her around. After a month or so of her being around, Jackson isn't sure just how much more of her he can take.
