My daughter wants to join the site.....

And I'm not sure how I should feel about it. On one hand it's the perfect way for me to monitor what she says and does without logging onto her computer. And on the other, I don't think I'm ready to have that sort of access to her stuff. (I already spy on her Deviantart page. She has a regular little potty mouth.)

So I'm at a loss of whether I should let her join or point her off to another site and hope it's not full of perverts trying to mess with 13 year old girls.
You'll definitely want to keep her innocent eyes away from the stuff I post on this site.

Honestly. decisions like these make me glad I´m not a parent (yet). On the one hand, it's just like your dad is totally cool for letting you taste a sip of beer just to satisfy your curiosity, scoring you brownie points without really putting her into danger. On the other, she will be able to read everything you post here. Everything.

@Kestrel Too be fair she will not be able to read her Private messages nor will she be able to read anything that she posts in the 18+ Libertine section just like us whom are over 18 cannot see into the minor libertine section.

She's already on Devian tart looking for Steven Universe and Five Nights at Freddy's role plays. @_@
Hahaha.

Don't know the former, but I know the latter. FNF isn't that bad. It's a spattreing of scares with slightly gory lore (that, as far as I recall, is never actually displayed in-game). PewDiePie's played it. A lot of kids are going to know about it, and apparently, like it. My younger sister of 13, who hates most horrors (she won't even watch Amnesia), for some reason realllly enjoys Five Nights at Freddy's.

Light cussing and gore, dark themes, etc. won't damage a child. Biggest problem is if the kid gets themselves in trouble at a stricter school.

Keep her the hell away from the Charizarding and 7-1-1 threads if you want to maintain her purity.

This is an an interesting situation!

At least you and your daughter would have something in common and can share in the interests here.

Yeah, definitely not letting her see the charizarding and 7/11 threads. I told her I'd think about it. I already know she's not into anything in the Libertine section so that's a load off my mind. I honestly feel better about her being on here than in chat rooms. And believe me, she'll be using her own age or she'll be banned from her computer for a month.

Here's advice from my mama: "You have to be involved with the things your kids are interested in. It helps you keep up with 'em." which is why she and my dad play video games XD

She would be perfectly safe here! It's a good place for her to grow and explore and be able to do it with responsible people. Plus you're here too so that makes it even better.

But will YOU be safe here? O____O Sometimes it's fun thinking about inviting our real life family and friends to our fav sites, but then it turns out to be really frustrating, cause our safe haven has been invaded. You no longer have something that is "just mine". All of your friends and everything here would then be shared with them.

If you have other safe places for you besides Iwaku I'd say go for it, But if not, send you spawn to another realm and keep Iwaku all to yourself. >>

All of dis. On one hand, you can see what she's up to, on the other it would possibly get exhausting keeping an eye on her every move, and what if she did post something objectionable? How would you react? Depending how things go, it could lead to arguments and a feeling of distrust and resentment, especially if you start to suspect she's hiding stuff in PMs.

On the other hand, I've seen you make some saucy posts yourself. Ask yourself if you'd be comfortable with your daughter seeing your own posts or if you'd want to start watching what YOU write. It's a double edged sword.

Looking at this topic, I can clearly see that your daughter will arrive in a safe place of the internet. I wouldn't worry so much, there are enough people to keep a watchful eye. Though as Dervish and Diana said, are you willing to let your safe haven be "invaded"?

HEY @Nydanna

THINGS YOUR KID SHOULD NOT KNOW:

ANYTHING @Seiji snow KNOWS

RACKS

CHARIZARD

7/11

METEORING

ANYTHING BY @Jorick

DICKS AND DICKPRIESTS

MOAR RACKS

WINGMEN

SQUIRTLING

BULBASAURING

That list is missing quite a bit....

I have to echo most of the others here, she should be fine here.

Though note I have a very "Non-censoring, non-hiding, expose your kids to everything (Intelligently, as in don't just throw a porn magazine at your kid and call it sex ed) philosophy when it comes to child raising.
