The Letter

The night seems colder than usual. Just as the letter had described, a horse-drawn carriage stands outside of your home, headed by a driver of dubious appearance and pulled by twisted creatures that barely appeared equine. Wordless, the man eyes both you and your belongings. He knows you are nervous, and watches as you tentatively read your letter once more:

[fieldbox="x, grey, dashed, 10, times new roman"]
Dearest Stranger,

I bequeath unto you a most daring invitation, one in which is bound to captivate your ponderings and inflict a staggering crisis for the weeks coming.

My name is Ermita Grene, known more often as the head of Elsewhere's most prestigious magical college, Morello's School of Peculiarities. The peculiarities being what, you ask? Myself. Yourself. I have no doubts that you are already well acquainted your own oddities. You may dub it a curse now, but I hope to bring it forth as a gift, and so I in turn gift you with a single token of passage to Elsewhere, and a place within Morello's School of Peculiarities.

A simple offer perhaps, but passage to Elsewhere costs more than the token in this letter. It should be made known that Elsewhere is not of your world; rather, it is much alike a dream, or a paradise left unseen to human eyes. In passing through the gate to Elsewhere, all memory of you will be lost within that world, as if you were nought more than a passing thought. But fear not for your past, for Elsewhere is a path of rebirth, and a haven for those unsuited to the normalities of the Middle Plane.

Morello's extends its hand to thee, and offers comfort and teachings in your time of confusion. You will learn control, discipline, and good-willed practices, all whilst meeting others quite alike yourself. Elsewhere is a plane of fantastical creatures and opportunities, and I dearly look forward to the introduction of a new generation to the college.

Your decision is very much your own, and so on the night of the twentieth day after your reading of this letter, expect a horse-drawn carriage to present itself before your abode. The driver will arrive an hour before midnight, and will linger for no longer than that hour. Should you wish to take the journey to Elsewhere, only pack a case of your dearest belongings. The college will provide you with the rest.

And please, do not fear the carriage; only the darkest and hardiest of creatures can thrive in the Middle Plane, and this one is quite tame.

Kindest regards,

SuYzmhq.png
[/fieldbox]
Even after spending so many days in thought, you still feel nauseous at such a decision. Swallowing the lump which swelled in your throat, your hand extends, offering the token to the shrouded man. Your stomach flips as he places it between his teeth and bites into it, gnawing the gold into a pulp as he holds open the carriage door. You curse your own choices as you step inside, and your journey to Elsewhere begins.

The Premise

Welcome, wanderer!
Morello's School of Peculiarities is a college situated in Elsewhere; one of the three planes of existence in the known universe. The college serves as respite and sanctuary for humans with delicate gifts and magicka, and aims to raise and introduce such individuals into Elsewhere's fantastical lands, whose customs are much better suited to a magical crowd.

Having long grown accustomed to the grounded and modern world of the Middle Plane, new students must perceive and adapt the much more primitive Elsewhere, which bears an aesthetic akin to a grand and magical Victorian England. But why were they chosen?

Peculiarities. A word kindly given to students by Grand Magus Morello, the founding father of the college. Though all students have an affinity for magic, the term "peculiarity" refers to a particular gift, usually unique to each individual. Such gifts are more often perceived as curses, for the bearer is often unable to control it before their admission into the college. A child gifted with a fiery touch might have hurt another in their temper, or a child who bears a shapeshifting ability might struggle to maintain their form. No matter what their circumstances may be, such magic does not go unnoticed in a world as neutral as the Middle Plane, and a child will find themselves in possession of an invite from as young as six years old. New students within the college are usually aged anywhere between six and eighteen.

School Rules

Upon admission into the college, each student is dubbed with one of three titles. The title is not publicly shown, and only serves as a reference for college tutors:

♃ "Safe," meaning that unless used recklessly, a student's peculiarity can be reliably controlled without any external means and pose no threat to life.

♆ "Passive," meaning that a student's peculiarity poses some risk of collateral damage. Sometimes requires the application of physical control methods, such as nullifying bracelets or calming rings.

♅ "Hostile," a rarely-given title meaning that either a student's peculiarity is directly purposed to inflict harm, or is unable to be controlled without external means. The term was first applied to a student named Abraham Thorne some eight-hundred years ago, whose basilisk-like gaze was enough to petrify those who met it.
Though each classroom bears its own rules, all students must adhere to the following ground rules:

I. Students must not aim to harm one another.
II. First and second year students must not leave college grounds without a faculty escort.
III. All students are to be settled within their dormitories by 11pm.
IV. The Pearl Tower is off-limits to all students.
V. Alcohol and tobacco is strictly forbidden on college grounds.

Important Figures

UXa5Hto.png

Arch-Magus Morello
Morello, Arch-Magus and King of Horns, creator of the Philosopher's Stone and founding father of Morello's School of Peculiarities. Little is truly known of this ancient mage, but it is said that he was unrequitedly kind, displaying great care towards others even as they recoiled away from his ghastly appearance. His magic was said to be unmatched, and as a scholar he became the first mage to piece together an artificial means of eternal life. His ceaseless interest in the Middle Plane and mortal-kind ultimately led him to destroy the Philosopher's Stone, and he instead greeted death gladly, leaving behind a grand legacy in the form of a magial school. His skeletal form rests peacefully within the Pearl Tower.

Ermita Grene

"I loved Morello as a child would love a father. It was through him that we saw beyond the looking glass; without him, there would be little hope for us abominations. His actions taught the people of Elsewhere the methods which define man from monster, and opened up many doors for those alike him."

Ermita Grene is the current head of Morello's School of Peculiarities. Much like his predecessor, he is kindly and well-spoken, serving as both a respected public figure and a remarkable scholar. Born from an arcane explosion, Ermita was named and tamed by Morello, who taught him language and culture and assisted him in assuming a social form. Though his true body consists of a pearlescent mist, he almost always assumes the appearance of a silver-haired, middle-aged male.
Classes

If anyone wishes to reserve a teaching position, let me know! Any teaching slots not taken will be filled by an NPC as and when they are needed.

Magic Control, taught by --
A very practical lesson given thrice a week on the ways and means of controlling, suppressing, and using one's peculiarities. Magical skills are also taught here, by giving lessons on how to manage and summon the mana which flows freely through each student. Beginning with the most basic of spells, Magic Control becomes more advanced as the school years move on.

Magical Beasts, taught by --
The study of magical beasts, their natures, and how to care for them. This class teaches students the vast zoology of Elsewhere, and the means by which an individual can remain safe when encountering a magical beast.

Runelore, taught by --
An in-depth study on runes, their meanings, and how they can be utilised to both reinforce and control magic. This lesson includes teachings on the makings of physical charms and tokens, and lectures on how to differentiate between helpful and harmful charms.

Demonology, taught by --
Teachings of the Nether Plane, and methods of defence against the denizens which lie within. Demonology aims to educate students not only on demons themselves, but the curses and hexes in which they bring. It also includes the teaching of defensive wards and incantations, should the need for them arise.

Miracle Studies, taught by Craster Frey
The study of miracles; an immensely powerful form of magic which can be used to alter reality itself. The basics begin with the teaching of healing and reversal magic, followed suit by a series of transfigurations and crystal forgeries.

Familiar Control, taught by --
Lessons on finding, bonding with, and utilising familiars. Though a familiar cannot be given, this class provides insight on the means of finding one, and the practises in which a familiar can be used to reinforce and control their magic.
Campus Grounds

Morello's School of Peculiarities is a castle of white stone, built atop a steep rock formation at the centre of The Capital. Though the castle is far more ancient than the school itself, its radiance is still perceived by onlookers from afar. Many halls and towers combine to create the architecture, crowned by the Pearl Tower, which stands taller than the rest. The main entrance can be accessed by ascending several flights of stairs within the rocks, with each level presenting its own courtyard and greenery. the invite packages sent to the Middle Plane, they are given a tiny replica of the castle within a snow globe.

.

The Auditorium
A vast hall of decorated marble and mosaics, fashioned to suit two purposes; the first being as a place for spoken lectures, the second being an area of magical practice and sparring. In that sense, the hall serves as both an auditorium and a gymnasium.

The Dormitories
Student dormitories are located in the North Wing of the castle, and are split according to gender. Each student is given their own bed, desk, and trunk, with a pullable curtain for privacy.

The Library

The student library takes up the majority of the castle's West Wing, and features an incredibly tall ceiling with bookshelves stacking right up to it. The library serves as a source of extended reading for education, as well as the recreational reading of Elsewhere classics. The library also serves as a museum, with many magical artefacts being held on display behind glass cabinets. All material within the library is safe for student eyes, as delicate material is kept sealed within the Pearl Tower.

The Classrooms

Though each classroom features its own unique specialities based on the lesson and the tutor, every classroom is fitted with twenty desks, a blackboard, and a lecturn. Rooms are kept lit by chandeliers, lanterns, and floating candles, depending on the tutor's tastes.

The Mess Hall

A social hive and place of respite, furnished with long dining tables and hundreds of seats. The canteen serves small plates throughout the day, but provides breakfast and dinner at 7am and 5pm respectively. The canteen itself is managed and kept stocked by a silk lady named Prissy, whose art in cuisine has been revered throughout the school's decades.

The Pearl Tower
A tower dubbed off-limits to students. The Pearl Tower is an archive of ancient artifacts and magical parchments, and bears host as the final resting place of Morello, who remains peacefully seated within the chair he passed away in.

The Dungeons
As names would suggest, the dungeons once served as a place of quarantine for the devious and malicious. Though it once bore host to countless criminals, it now serves as a place of keeping for the college's domestic beasts. The cells have been repurposed to replicate a natural habitat for each beast, with students being assigned to help care for them on a cycling rota.

The Greenhouse

A haven for botanists and potion-makers, located on the upper courtyard. The greenhouse is remarkably large and crafted entirely of iron and glass, and features vast amounts of magical greenery upon wooden tables and in hanging baskets.

The World

iOc98xM.png

Here: The people of Elsewhere reside upon a single mainland, dubbed simply as "Here." The mainland is vast and home to several biomes and regions, allowing for multiple races to thrive.

Nowhere: The mainland is surrounded by a vast ocean, known as the Endless Sea. Thus far, the sea has only been discovered to lead to "Nowhere."

The Capital: The centre of all trade and business, located almost centrally on the mainland. The Capital's geography ascends upwards towards the middle, with Morello's School of Peculiarities residing at the peak. The Capital is surrounded by rural countries and farmland, with many trading routes in between.

Lake Lindenbaum: A deep and expansive body of water at the centre of the mainland, surrounded by many docking ports and fisheries. Lake Lindenbaum is teeming with a ceaseless and colourful array of fish, and during the summer months the bed of the lake is often visible through the crystalline waters.

The Three Giants: A universal term for three mountainous regions, subbed as Remina of The North, Selene of The East, and Lumina of The South. Remina serves as a barely survivable region of vast cliffs and ice, with only the hardiest of harpies taking up residence. Selene and Lumina, however, have long been mined and dug into as a prosperous source of minerals and crystals.

Living Marsh: The water-filled land to the East. The marshes here are rife with strange life, with the deeper areas being home to the dangerous Mer. The region is populated mostly by the reclusive Merfolk, who teeter more towards to coastline. Whilst the marshes hold many research opportunities for a budding mage, it is an incredibly risky area to trek, with many being claimed by the thick fog which fulls upon the surface.

The Greenlands: Vast fields and rolling hills adjacent to the Living Marsh, devoid of grand civilisations and home only to tiny hamlets and hunting villages. The tall grass provides shelter for an array of small creatures, whilst herds of the deer-like Furfur graze across the hills.

Weeping Forest: A huge expanse of trees varying in density and nature. The forest extends from the very North-East of the mainland and climbs partially up the heights of Selene. It is home to many creatures - both light and dark - and it is said that the night's breeze sounds much alike a crying woman, hence the name the forest was given.

Races

Humans
Perhaps the most basic of beings at a glance, but so much more lies beneath the skin. Humans were first brought to Elsewhere by Morello, who found himself vastly interested in their cultures and oddities. Humans are known to be one of the most reliable vessels of magic, with their neutral form being able to harbor and adapt to all flavours of mana. Such things must not be taken advantage of, however, for the human body is more fragile than most, and recklessness in magic can break it's delicate form.

Elves
A proud and noble race which often refer to themselves as High Elves. The Elves often deem themselves as the true native race of Elsewhere, though this cannot be proven by any means. Many elves take on roles in politics and as curators, being naturally gifted with charms and innate mana from birth. An Elf's pride is hard to tarnish, and even though elf-human children do exist, the majority of the Elves are strictly purist.

Harpies
Quite unlike the harpies of human mythology, the true Harpies of Elsewhere are a near-human race, hailing from the mountain regions of the north. The appearances of Harpies are vast and relative to their given bird, and each Harpy possesses the natural ability to take on the form of said bird. Most Harpies bear a humanoid silhoutte, accented with feathers and sharp features and eyes larger than is perhaps deemed normal. Most mountain Harpies pride themselves on festivities and colour, with the exception sometimes being a Harpy who bears the black feathers of the crow.

Beast-Kin
A race which appears outwardly human, bar their sometimes larger statures. Beast-Kin bear tremendous physical strength and poise, with most taking on occupations which require hard physical labour. Beast-Kin are known for their unstable tempers, with extreme emotion causing their bodies to twist into something more primal; a form akin to a monstrous bear or wolf.

Genasi
Otherwise known as Elementals, the Genasi are humanoids said to be descedants of an ancient race of Djinn. Possessing colourful complexions and often oddities such as horns, tails, and dysfunctional wings, the Genasi are born with a strong affinity for one of the five elements. Having long since intermingled with the rest of Elsewhere, the Genasi are seen across the entirity of the mainland.

Halflings
Halflings are the descendents of ancient dwarves, who appear to bear a natural talent for crystal and mineral-based magic. They are prevelant across all regions, where they are often seen as merchants and healers. Halflings - as the name would suggest - are particularly short in stature, comparable to a human child.

Merfolk
A reclusive race native to and rarely seen outside of the coastal regions of Elsewhere. The Merfolk are a humanoid race, possessing smooth and off-coloured complexions, webbed digits, and gills. The Merfolk are poorly sighted but have a remarkable sense of smell, and are able to survive exclusively on land despite their sea-faring features. Being well attuned to the song of the seas, the healing magic of the Merfolk is said to be unmatched.

Horned Ones
An extinct race that has been the subject of many debates across the ages. The Horned Ones have been written as mages of unmatched skill, possessing skeletal forms headed by the skull of a goat. With the last known Horned One being the late Morello - who spoke nothing of his family - it is speculated yet unknown as to whether or not the Horned Ones are native to the dark of the Nether.

Unique Races
The regions and crevices of Elsewhere are vast. If you have a race you'd like to see in particular, let me know!

Bestiary

60TWv3N.png

Silver Lady
Silver Ladies appear to be human at a glance, but upon contact can easily be recognised as an apparition of mana. Their origins are unknown, but a scholar once wrote that the Silver Ladies are a product of poor housekeeping and the abandonment of homes. Incapable of speaking, they appear as a woman who takes on household duties within the home they are attached to, displaying great care towards the tenants and remaining entirely loyal to whomever owns the abode. Being extremely long-lived, they are known to outlast several families before fading with age. Prissy, the Silver Lady who tends to the students of the college, has been described by Ermita as being something more akin to a landlady than a servant.
.
.

hu5yKcw.png

Unicorns
A proud and beautiful equine species, rarely seen in the Weeping Forest. It is an honour to behold one, and their hair is extremely prized as a valuable catalyst of magic. Their blood is said to be an elixir of youth, though hunting and slaying a unicorn is considered a terrible crime.
.
.

lLQyyBS.png

Fae
Perhaps the most diverse species, Fae arrive in many shapes and forms. Fae are known to have their own cultures and tribes, with each tiny civilisation holding its own customs and ideals. Fae are incredible living catalysts, and are prized as familiars.
.
.

xZVHtcj.png

Direwolves
Direwolves are primal, pack-faring beasts who primarily roam the Weeping Forest and Selene. They are a terror to any hunter or wanderer, with the largest specimens being akin to a small horse. It is however known that they have an intense hatred to the scent of lavender, and will stray far from it.
.
.

Lhegyvq.png

Ulthar Cats
The cats of Elsewhere stay true to the notion that cats have nine lives. After the third life, a cat becomes more intelligent, and even learns to speak the languages of man. Cats who pass into the sixth life become known as Ulthar Cats, and are renowned for being very wise, if a little cynical. If one can look past their sour natures, they make reliable familiars.
.
.

BYdjQcB.png

Dragons
The most ancient of creatures, said to have existed long before Elsewhere itself. To hold a conversation with a dragon is considered a mighty honor, with only the most esteemed of individuals being acknowledged by them. They are few in number, and are generally peaceful and short-spoken, living reclusive lives in the depths of mountainous chasms.
.
.

qAU9A1v.png

Kelpies
A Kelpie is a terrible mockery of a unicorn, lurking within the marshes of the Living Lake. Their false beauty is used to lure the naive into touching or mounting them, before melting away to reveal the ghastly appearance which lays beneath. They are immensely hostile and predatory, with children being warned of them from a very young age.
.
.

BVs5rYJ.png

Mer
The Mer are dark, water-dwelling creatures, lurking beneath the surface of both the Endless Sea and Living Lake. Their voices are captivating and their are laden with silk, and whilst they are not strictly carnivorous by nature, they have been known to seek the thrills of luring unsuspecting folk to their deaths. The Mer are devious tricksters, and should not be taken lightly.
.
.

77Sr0Mg.png

Gryphons
Incredible creatures to behold, wild by nature but loyal to those who might tame them. Their wings are capable of producing small storms and mighty gusts, and they are the mount of choice for any mountaineer or shepherd.

Demonology

"Demon" is a term applied to any creature born of the Nether plane; a dark and twisted dimension which falls beneath Elsewhere and the Middle Plane. It is a place unfit for the delicate lives of the latter planes, and only the most virulent of souls are able to maintain their form within the Nether. The door to the Nether remains firmly sealed, but fissures are known to seldom tear...

mPS4LHR.png

Horsemen
Humanoid, shadowy beings often accompanied by a horse-pulled carriage; the Horsemen are only known demons to be able to create doors between planes at will. Their first appearance within Elsewhere was met with great panic, with the population speculating an invasion by such creatures. However, it was found the the Horsemen's diets were quite unlike most demons, for their interests lay only in gold. Morello sought to "befriend" these speechless beings, having them work as a means of transporting humans from the Middle Plane in return for a continual supply of gold pieces. The golden tokens gifted to humans before enrolment serve as their ticket to Elsewhere; the allocated Horseman will transport the new student upon receiving said ticket. Thus far, Horsemen have never been known to show any hostility, even when denied gold. In such instances, they will simply turn away and leave.
Familiars

GmpgQrU.png

Almost every prestigious mage to ever exist has had a Familiar. Familiars are - in Elsewhere - a magical creature who has sworn allegiance to a mage as part of a pairbond. In declaring an oath, their lifeforces are forever bound to the mage, meaning that the mage's passing will also result in their own. Through earning the allegiance of a Familiar, mages are able to summon their Familiar's mana in order to assist and push their own forward.

Familiars come in many shapes, with the vast species of Fae being seen as the most common and effective. Some hundred years ago, before the time of Morello, the first Arch Magus Avrahim was said to have earned the oath of the immortal dragon Nimulnir, with the latter sacrificing his long years to spend a mortal lifetime alongside Avrahim.

Not all mages acquire a Familiar, but this does not prove a hindrance to those with talent.

This post is a big WIP. I will be mostly absent tomorrow, so I have provided the basics for those eager to start building their characters. Some world lore, including demonology and beast descriptions, is missing. If you have any questions, please direct them my way!

Is there a limit to the number of characters we can make? Cause I think I'd like two students and the Magical Beasts teacher :3

I'll start working on my character today.

Oh, I have a suggestion! From my experiences, having a Discord chat group for the RP, so that the players can communicate and get to know each other OOCly is rather beneficial. All of the important things would have to be kept to the thread however, to keep everyone posted and updated.

@Angelic Fusion PMing shortly.

@winnie not at all! Play as many characters as you can handle. I did recieve a PM about someone interested in the Magical Beasts teaching position, but I'll get back to you on that ASAP!

@Shard indeed, a server would be helpful! I've put one together quickly, as can be found here:

Race: Fae
thelossian___creature_concept_by_cloister-d3312ba.jpg

Theolissian, a old and wise Fae has found the company of Avalia to be one of both mutual gain and one of watch and protection. Finding Avalia to be a rather jumbled individual Theolissian has charged itself with attempting to alleviate the pain the woman deals with not only mentally but through her rampant and chaotic gift.

Immune to Avalia's gift it also siphons excess magical energy off of her allowing it to feed while also keeping her gift from flaring and coming out... most of the time. Outside of this beneficial attribute Theolissian communicates through telepathic means. As a Fae it also can shift the size of its body and use its body as a means of transportation for Avalia.

Although rather calm Theolissian is not helpless by any means. Able to use its tail to inject venom it can also climb walls using its dexterous hands and powerful fingers. The relationship between Avalia and Theolissian has so far been only beneficial and highly respectful. Often giving advice to Avalia she views it as a gift to her rather than a necessity.

Empathetic
Fearful of herself
Afraid of losing control

Background:
Born to two Bio-mechanical engineers, Avalia was expected to be just a normal young girl. But, things weren't always as they would seem. Being brought up in France she lived on the suburbs of Paris, her parents working in the city while she went to school. Being a bit of an eccentric individual even at her young age she had begun to take to art more than anything. From the start she seemed to have a gift for it. Making things some would consider impossible for someone her age, her parents soon found out that there was more to their little girl than meets the eye.

Thinking it was under control her parents let her go about her regular life. However, she soon began to experience odd outbursts of her gift. Being bullied in school seemed like one of the triggers from her to change objects. At first, it was the grass under the feet. Growing and changing into longer and sharper strands. Cutting several of her classmates on accident the grass had to be mowed three times before the incident was covered up. Luckily, no one knew it was Avalia.

As time continued, it began obvious that it was no longer isolated to just shaping but began to turn into something far more ominous. Accidentally mutating her dog her parents realized there was something more to her, something dark and uncontrollable. Seeing her dog change the way it did left an impact on her mind. The impact would begin to grow before finding its release in a way that none of them ever wished for.

Being the target of several boys she was harassed over her disinterest in not only them but with just about everyone. Focusing on her school work and her drawing they drew her Ire by ripping up her drawings in front of her. The incident escalated into a yelling match before one of the boys pushed her backwards causing her to fall. The push was just enough for her gift to flare to life. The horrific change soon took hold of the bully. Shifting, contorting and screaming the boy changed into one of the most horrific examples of humanity she could ever imagine. Her disgusted view of the boy was brought to reality, his true nature was reflected outwardly just as he was inwardly disgusting.

The scene scarred Avalia deeply with being the first time it had ever happened to a human. The incident sparked rage and while no one could pinpoint the cause, her parents knew what had happened. Luckily, the families hopes were elevated when she received her letter. Agreeing to go, she has since begun to learn control, although slow she is making steady progress. But, with control comes strength, the intensity of her gift has only increased with age.

Shadow Puppetry
Hand Puppet Visual Reference & Handmade Object Visual Reference
The ability to create tangible shadow creatures via hand puppets or handmade objects. These shadows can provide amusements, distractions or protection to it's user and others. Though the shadows are created from hand puppets or objects, as soon as they peel themselves off of a surface (walls, ground etc), they last as long as the maker can control them. Shadow puppets created from objects tend to last longer than hand puppets.

Precious Objects:
Vintage Polaroid Camera - Her grandmother gave it to Minnie when she was eight. It doesn't work, but Minnie loves it because it's the only thing she has from her grandmother, aside from her name. A photo is stuck in the camera that Minnie never removed for fear of tearing it or further breaking the camera.

Digital Camera - A working camera that Minnie barely uses. She likes to look through the lenses but rarely snaps a photo.

School Year:

First

Title:
Safe

Familiar:
Seeking one.

Best Classes:
Familiar Control

Personality:
Inquisitive: As most children are, Minnie is curious about everything. When something catches her eye, she'll pursue it even if it means entering uncharted territory. Her curiosity can be a tad irritating at time, as it often leads to tenacity and stubbornness.

Cautious: This only applies to certain people who remind her of her mother. It doesn't have to be a physical appearance, it can be a tone or even an unconscious habit. If she notices these traits, she will keep you at arms length. Deep down, she knows that her mother is far far away but her fearful memories tend to consume her. Sometimes after encountering something or someone who reminds her of her mother, Minnie will have spine chilling nightmares that night. She'll wake with a scream, and whimper for the only woman who ever comforted her, her grandmother Minerva.

Imaginative: Minnie's imagination knows no bounds and sometimes acts a vice instead of a virtue. There are times when she'll stare off into space in the middle of a lecture and when she comes to, she'll find that she didn't absorb one bit of knowledge. Minnie's imagination can also lead to her being naive and gullible, as she will believe nearly anything you tell her without a second thought.

Polite: One of the only things her grandmother and mother had in common was their intolerance for a lack of manners. Thus, Minnie is impeccably polite and addresses everyone (barring students her age) with a title until told not to. Like the matriarchs of her family, Minnie frowns upon people who neglect to use their manners.

Background:
Minnie was raised by her mother who didn't want her, and doted on by her grandmother who loved her more than there were stars in the sky. If Minerva Sutter could have had it her way, she would have taken little Minnie with her and never looked back. Unfortunately, the old woman was bedridden from the activities of her youth and was dependent on her only daughter, Edna whose unfortunate life experiences had left her bitter with hatred.

Minnie spent most of her time in her grandmother's room, listening to grand stories of when Minerva was younger and in show business. These moments were the highlight of Minnie's life, not just because she could spend time with her favorite person but because she and Minerva had a secret. Minnie had a gift--a beautiful gift where she could make shadow puppets to act out her grandmother's stories. Minerva was the only one who knew about Minnie's powers and implored her to never tell her mother about them. She didn't have to do much convincing, Minnie often had nightmares about her mother calling her a freak and locking her away.

One night, Minerva passed away when her respirator malfunctioned and Minnie was devastated but her devastation soon turned to confusion when found a letter addressed to her in her grandmother's vanity. The letter wasn't from her grandmother but it gave off the warmth that Minerva had and the writer, knew about Minnie's powers. The girl didn't have to think twice about leaving and even saw her departure as a gift to her mother who hadn't wanted her in the first place.

I'll get my chars up Sunday.

aaaaa I'd love to join this! I'll start making a character or two now. ^^

NADEJA PASCARI
upload_2018-2-17_21-46-44.png

Age:
16

Gender:
Female

Sexuality:
(Questioning) Bisexual

Race:
Human

Peculiarity:

- GREEN THUMB -
Nadeja has the ability to control, heal, and spawn plant life. The amount of energy it takes depends on the size of the task. For example, if she were to mend a flower's broken stem, it wouldn't use up much of her strength or energy, but if she were to raise a fully grown tree from the ground, she'd probably pass out.

Likes:
+ Animals and insects
+ Tea
+ Reading
+ Being outside
+ Getting up early to watch the sun rise
+ Fuzzy socks
+ Glass-making

Dislikes:
+ Loud noises
+ Persistent people
+ Not being listened to
+ Not knowing a joke
+ Being unsure of plans
+ Feeling dumb
+ Being talked down to

School Year:
Second year

Title:

Passive

Familiar:

Ulthar Cat; fondly referred to as "Francois" after Nadeja's aunt's dead canary. He tends to stay as close to Nadeja as possible and particularly enjoys laying around her shoulders like a scarf. Francois often translates for her when her English skills fail and is incredibly protective of her. As in, he'll hiss at really anyone that goes near her, knowing people make her very nervous.

Best Classes:

Magical Beasts, Runelore

Appearance
+ Waist-length blonde hair, wavy
+ Brown eyes
+ Beauty mark located above her lip, right side
+ 5'3"
+ 118lbs.

Personality:
+ Optimistic; although Nadeja gets nervous very easily, she always tries to look at things positively.
+ Introverted; Nadeja is often made uneasy by large groups and loud noises and prefers to be alone or just chatting with 1-2 other people. However, she can be persuaded into attending big events and meeting lots of people, so long as she has a well-known buddy to stick with.
+ Clumsy; because her head is usually up in the clouds with all her daydreaming, Nadeja often bumps into things and trips over her own feet. That and she isn't very coordinated to start with.
+ Emotional; everything has meaning to her, and even very small incidences can affect her greatly. It's easy to make Nadeja cry, but even easier to make her laugh or to strike up her curiosity.

Background:
Nadeja is mainly Moldovan (from her father) and Czechoslovakian (from her mother); however, she does have some French and Albanian blood, also from her father. She grew up in the Czech Republic and is fluent in Czech and Polish, about 75% fluent in French and only about 40% fluent in English, as she spent summers in France with her aunt since she was 6 years old and started taking English classes at age 13.
When she was 4 years old, Nadeja's peculiarity actually began to show. Her family had moved from a Moldovan city to a farm in the Czech Republic then. At that age, she had no control over it whatsoever, but could only really cause little sprouts to pop up. Once she started helping with farm work, her ability had grown a bit stronger. She could make crops grow faster and better, which meant less work. At least, she thought so. It was very draining, but luckily for her it meant she could get work done faster and be able to sit outside for a bit, just as tired as she would be if she hadn't used her abilities.
Matej, Nadeja's older brother, was the only one that knew of her peculiarity, and only on accident because he came to see how Nadeja was doing with her chores. He saw this as an advantage for himself and would often threaten to tell her secret if he was mad at her. Matej also had his sister do his field work whenever he was too tired or he didn't like the weather, causing her to be very weak and exhausted the majority of the time. Nadeja always felt trapped by her secret and her brother's treatment made her very sad for a long time. However, one day, Matej finally told their parents. Although it should've upset her, Nadeja was free. Her parents didn't look at her the same anymore, but she had finally been freed.
Years later, the letter from Elsewhere came. Normally, Nadeja would've declined such an offer as new places and people scared her, but she was tired of feeling like a foreigner in her own home. So, she climbed into the carriage 20 days later and awaited a better life.

AKATENDEKA
upload_2018-2-17_23-56-57.png
Age:
29

Gender:
Female

Sexuality:
Pansexual

Race:
Genasi (Fire)

Taught Class:
Magic Control

Peculiarity:
- COSMIC REPLACEMENT -
Akatendeka has the ability to create new stars, but only to replace ones that have recently burned out. "Stars" appear on her skin like notifications that one will need to be replaced, fading off of her once she replaces it in the sky. Sometimes whole constellations will appear on her if she isn't fast enough, as if the cosmos is yelling at her to hurry up. This all being said, Akatendeka is incredible at spotting and naming each and every constellation, and any star that is notable on its own.

Former Title:
Safe

Familiar:
Akatendeka's familiar is a female gryphon. Although a traditionally masculine name, Akatendeka calls her Orrin. Orrin is a typical gryphon - fiercely loyal to her master and mischievous around basically everyone else. She especially likes flapping her wings wildly in the direction of anyone seeming to bother Akatendeka. She's actually a bit clingy and affectionate towards her master, and very playful.

Appearance:
+ Close to shoulder-length black hair, straight
+ Brown eyes
+ 5'7"
+ 145lbs.
+ Her skin is mostly dark brown, but some spots (shoulders, hands, sides, temples, etc.) are dusted with dark oranges and yellows
+ Akatendeka also has semi-transparent wings, much like a fairy would have
*Her wings have an orange tint to them which gets darker towards the edges. The base of each wing is black as if they had been burned

Personality:
+ Patient; Akatendeka is calm in almost all situations and her temper doesn't seem to exist. She believes everyone can achieve greatness if given time.
+ Detached; it almost seems like she doesn't have feelings. She's like a tortoise, in a way - patient, calm, quiet. She even moves slowly, in a very elegant and relaxed way. (Another helping factor is her soft voice, which is just a little deeper than you'd expect.)
+ Serious; what she does is important, after all. She loves joking around with her students every now and then but learning (as well as safety) comes first.
+ Analytical; Akatendeka, although quiet and tolerating, is very observant. It may not seem like it, but she knows her students very well. As an educator, she has to.
+ Comforting/Understanding: she's always there for her students and fellow staff members, no matter what their troubles are. She's always willing to listen to concerns and give advice or any form of feedback necessary.

Background:
Can be as in-depth or as secretive as you'd like.

Theme:

**sorry the last two are HUGE WIPs**

Oooh- This looks like it's gonna be great! I've got a few ideas already lined up for some lively students, but I wanted to ask if it would be possible for a human with no peculiarity to be in the Elsewhere?

I just had an idea for the Runelore Teacher to be just such a character. Maybe with something like ''their commanding mastery over runes, charms, and tokens being one way they survive out in the untamed places of the Elsewhere.'' In the event that something like that is not possible, I'd be just as happy to give the character is a peculiarity. Could always be something to help make them fit in the world more.

-Either way, going to finish up a CS for this for sure. Can't wait.

Name:
Fen Lautumia
(ph-en / la-ooh-too-mee-ah)

Age:

33

Gender:
Stallion (Male)

Race:
Centaur

Sexuality:
Pansexual

Taught Class:

Demonology

Precious Objects:
Foal Blanket - Like most centaurs, Fen's first present from his mother was the foal blanket that she painstakingly crafted for him. But unlike most centaurs, Fen never gave the blanket up and keeps it for comfort during dark times. He will absolutely stomp someone if they touch it or make fun of him for it.

Peculiarity:
Shock Wave Stomp
The ability to produce shock waves by stomping the ground. This trait is shared by all centaurs but is not considered an ability in the herd. Outside of the herd, shock wave stomping can be detrimental to the environment.

Former Title:
Hostile (When he was younger, simply walking would cause small quakes. Around centaurs that's no issue but with other creatures, it becomes a crisis. He has of course learned to use runes to soften the force caused by his hooves when he moves.)

Familiar:
Mistle - Ulthar Cat
It is strongly recommended that you do not attempt to pet Mistle. He has been known to swipe at students who come too close and has even chased some that he has pegged as skittish. Mistle is mischievous and a bit of sadist, as he will often feign innocence, tell someone (usually a student) he has something important to share, then as soon as they get close, he'll swipe and hiss at them. There's no real malice behind his actions, he's just an ass.

Personality:

Graceful and brave, Fen stands tall no matter what the occasion. He is disciplined when it comes to his appearance and maintains an extensive self care routine. Fen thinks very highly of himself and isn't easily embarrassed, however sometimes his pride can be his greatest enemy. Despite this, Fen isn't completely self centered and pays attention to his students and friends. He is surprisingly observant and tends to pick up small details about individuals.

A courageous creature, Fen does not shy away from confrontation or battle. He is very protective of his students and will put himself in harm's way to protect them from enemies and themselves. When it comes to his students and comrades, Fen is very patient and accepting however even he has his limits and if he believes you to be taking advantage of him, he will not hesitate to abandon you. This leads us to his temper, like most adult centaurs when angered, Fen can turn into a horrifying sight complete with restlessness, snorting, rearing up and kicking, but his anger is usually short lived and a brisk run will cool him down. He tries his best not to get angry in front of his students but sometimes it can't be helped.

Background:
Fen was born to the Stone Quarry herd, a tribe of centaurs who were known for their massive stature, stunning muscle mass and aggressive tendencies. Most of the members of the herd were male and though same sex mates were common, there weren't nearly enough to lessen the competition for female mates. The females of the herd all seemed to be exclusively attracted to strong mates so the herd often hosted competitions where they displayed feats of strength to prove their worth to the females. This has always been the way of the Stone Quarry herd and the method of mate selection even carried over to how leaders of the tribe were chosen. Most centaur tribes were led by those with the blood of the chieftain, but the Stone Quarry who only valued strength, chose leaders based on who defeated the current leader in a duel.

Fen was only 20 years old when he decided to challenge the current chief, Yoro to a duel. Fen had always been headstrong and believed himself to be much stronger and important than what he was. There were quite a few in the herd who couldn't stand to be around him for longer than a few minutes, but Fen never noticed. There were even some who dreaded his potential rise to leadership. Fen's mother, Itis blamed herself for her son's egotistical attitude as she had spoiled and coddled him longer than most mothers. Fen's father, Makoric figured this was just what his son needed to get his head on straight. Fen lost swiftly and within the first five seconds--a tribal record. Most of the tribe was stunned as they had expected him to last for at least five minutes. The defeated stallion was so embarrassed that as soon as he could stagger to his feet, he ran away leaving the only home that he had ever known.

Fen's journey had been driven by embarrassment and shame but after traveling for awhile and meeting new people, he began to grow confident once more only for his confidence to be blown to bits. As a centaur, Fen's natural ability to shake the ground as he walks was relatively harmless in a herd but alone, even taking the daintiest step was devastating for the environment around him. The young centaur accidentally destroyed a single settlement while passing through it and he got so bewildered when the inhabitants started attacking him that he ran and ran without paying attention to where he was going. That was how he found himself at the steps of Morello's School of Peculiarities. He was taken in, given shelter and offered a chance to learn how to control his ability. He accepted and never left. When he was deemed fit to leave, Fen asked for a job instead and was given the recently vacant position in his best subject; Demonology.

Just a note to everyone: I'll be very busy over the next day or so, so please bear with me! All characters are looking great thus far; can't wait to see the finished products!

@Wishlist that's perfectly viable! Magic and magical knowledge itself can be learned, with only a minority of folk holding their innate "peculiarities." It'd absolutely make sense for a normal human to be born within Elsewhere, or to enter Elsewhere as a means of furthering their studies. I'll reserve the Runelore position for you. ~

Name: Rorric Calber

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Peculiarity: Eternal Blaze
Due to a Geas pact gone wrong many centuries before, a fragment of a phoenix has been passed on into Rorric's soul. Rorric is capable of producing a white-hot, holy flame which can be applied to any surface, including water or the very air. This searing fire burns with the intensity of a phoenix, one-one hundredth of the sun, and will melt or burn almost every material in existence. While there are some rare exceptions, this fire will even harm Rorric. The fire produced by this Peculiarity does not spread unless ordered upon by Rorric. Nor will it burn out unless Rorric commands it to.
While normally able to be controlled, there are instances where the Peculiarity can go out of control due to the fragment of the Pheonix within Rorric. Due to this being a sentient, but foreign being, it's mysterious intentions will override Rorric's desires for its own.

School Year: Third III

Title: Hostile.

Familiar: Warning, Warning! ANCIENT BEING DETECTED! Incapable of bonding with familiar due to strong eldrich presence. Any attempts to bond with familiars will result in the entity burning to ash. Repeat! REFRAIN FROM BONDING!

  • Rorric was thought to have been yet another captive of a familial curse. The upbringing he had consisted of may restrictions and training to remain calm and tempered. Being partially English with hints of Welsh and Persian blood, Rorric was raised in Essex, England. A combination of both living as higher-class and restricted interactions caused Rorric to have almost no friends with limited social interactions. His education was completely private with tutors visiting the estate each day to instruct the boy. And due to the lifestyle, his family forced upon him, studies were quick and easy.

Sir Alexander Calber, Rorric's father, spend great amounts of time watching over his child. The two looked much alike, especially after Rorric began to transform and change due to the curse placed on his family. His blond hair turned white, and blue eyes turned purple. Traits displayed in the past Family Heads. And much like Sir Alexander, his son began to show glimpses of summoning flames. Embers surrounded Rorric like wavering snowflakes or his bath water would be lit aflame. Seeing these developments, Sir Alexander revealed the secrets behind the Calber family.

Doing this caused Rorric to become scared and afraid. A natural reaction when faced with the eldritch knowledge a boy is given. At the same time, however, Rorric became determined to do something. A boy raised to be proud of his family name and history would feel this way upon being informed of the situation.

As Rorric began to grow, Sir Alexander began to train his son personally. In addition to this training, Rorric was granted more freedoms. He was allowed to explore more of the world so long as a familiar would accompany him. In doing so, his faulty social skills got some exercise. He would meet Lily, the plumber's daughter. Samuel, a govern's son. Eddie...a homeless guy Rorric mistaken for a dead body.

There, however, came a tragedy during the summer solstice when Rorric was thirteen. At the height of the Sun's journey across the sky, Rorric lost control of his abilities. A chaotic twister of fire and magic swirled around the estate, burning everything and killing a good number of servants, familiars, and family members. A good deal of the surrounding homes and land became engulfed. Killing several people. In the fire, Sir Alexander attempted to contain his son's peculiarity. Doing so resulted in a number of third-degree burns. Some damage was repaired, but not enough to properly restore him.

With his father scarred for life and guilt consuming him, a letter from M.S.P. granted a path of guidance and possible redemption to not just the sorcerer. But his family as well.

  • Theme: Centuries by Fallout Boy

The Calber family began as a group of Warlocks, magic-users who utilized abilities granted through deals between supernatural beings. While the majority of the family aimed to only deal with good-aligned beings, some branch members sought power held by dark creatures. One of these Warlocks was Mercer Calber, an old head of the family; their leader. During his time alive, Mercer sought to make a deal with an ancient phoenix, Milcham the Radiant Dove. Once Milcham was found, Mercer prepared a spell to charm the Phoenix. It failed, and in that failure, Milcham cursed the Calber bloodline.
The souls of every Calber that dies remains attached to their bodies, unable to move or control their bodies. Instead, they remain in the mortal realm and go crazy from both pain and age. Only the eldest son of each generation will be granted a fraction of Milcham's powers. They are to be utilized for the removal of the curse. Which can be removed in one of three ways.

    • The Sorcerer kills and heart of a Dragon, 100 years of age or older.
    • They Find Milcham's nest once more and pleads with them.
    • They convince another Phoenix of 1000+ years of age to speak to Milcham on their behalf.

Calber carries with him a magical sword he carries with him. Runes inscribed on it translate to Dragon Dagger. Magically enchanted to cut the scales of a dragon-kin. The scabbard is enchanted to suck in and consume magical fires. Acting as a failsafe to his own perculiarity.

Things came up but my Fire Boy and Bubble Girl will be up tomorrow.

Mari Saitou
"If I can't be a secret keeper, I may as well be a truth teller."

Name:
Mari Saitou
[Mah-ree Sa-ee-to]

Age:
16

Gender:
Male

Race:
"Asian...?"
Changeling

Peculiarity:
"I'm Telepathetic."
Telepathy, the ability to communicate with thoughts alone. The first thought to pop up when one hears the term is the ability to read another's mind. Mari however, is an odd case. Instead of reading minds, his own thoughts [Verbal and Visual] are transmitted to those within a range of 15ft/a medium sized room. The range is practically limitless to others with an exceptional handle on mental based abilities as they are just easiest to "connect" to. However this is only due to him having an open mind, a weakness that leaves him an easy target for mental based attacks/infiltrations. Close friends would probably be another exception if he had any.

School Year:
Second

Title:
Passive

Familiar:
"She is my Friend so I named her Phoebe."
Phoenix [Adolescent]
[Click for an amusing representation of her.. growth spurt?]

[But don't let her chub fool you]

Mari first met Phoebe on a particularly warm sunny day. He was on a school trip and was drawn to a group of performers dancing, wanting to join in but interrupting the performance instead. After being promptly chased away, he found himself lost and at the mercy of his poor sense of direction. On what he thought was his way back, he heard a weak cry. Whether it was because of the potential of his peculiarity or because he understood the feeling of being helpless himself, he was unsure but he heard her cry clearly when those around him could not. It is unknown to him why he was the only one to heed her call but when he found her, had somehow fallen from a Paulownia tree while she was attempting to build a nest. Thinking she was just a random injured bird, he forgot all about that strange cry for help and simply snuck her back to the hotel they were staying at after finding his way back.

Phoebe is seen as very refined and well behaved. She is known to follow instructions well and hardly ever makes a sound. However when she "speaks", she does so through Mari, using his ability to transmit thoughts to transmit her own, giving many the feeling that he is her familiar other than the other way around. Her manner of speech is arrogant and unrestrained. Just like Mari, she is honest and has an upright character.

Aside from the ability to speak through him, she is able to breathe out puffs of phoenix fire, one of the hottest fires known. However, if possible she will try not to use it since she is too young and it takes a lot of energy to make a fireball the size of a child's fist as is. As far as flight goes, Mari pampered her to the point in which she gained quite a bit of weight. At most, she can hover up to his head, her favorite spot to perch.

Best Classes:
Miracle Studies & Magical Beast
As someone with fae ancestry, Mari is drawn to nature magic and through that, excels in the healing portion of the class with reversal magic coming in close second. Another plus to his connection to nature magic is that it tends to draw in small magical beasts as well for better or for worse.

Appearance:
"I'm male. If you want to check to make sure, you'll have to marry me."
Mari's delicate figure casually stands at 5'9 and weighs a good 126 pounds. He is most often found in clothing neutral or dark in tone resembling Mori Kei fashion for the sake of convenience. If he gets warm along the way, he will casually discard a layer and more often than not, lose it somewhere. However if it's a hot enough day, he will opt out for a skirt. if he's bored enough, however, he does enjoy dressing up in formal wear. Even without his usual makeup[which he uses to give his skin a little color], his skin is akin to porcelain, free of any blemish save for some pale scars on his ribcage. Matching his skin is a head of lengthy wavy snowlike hair, most often twisted into a messy bun and held back by a hair tie. His bangs are straightened however, and fall down to his dark brown phoenix eyes which tend to try to look anywhere but directly at people, as if taking a peek would be indecent. As far as makeup goes, he is very fond of using eyeliner to achieve a variety of effects, particularly adding small "wings" to the outermost corners of his eyes.

Personality:
"Obvious.. Very obvious."
Emotionally Resilient|Honest|Playful|Curious|Open|Caring
Due to his peculiarity, Mari is naturally unable to keep anything from others. If you want a secret kept, he is definitely the last person you should tell. With but a stray thought, the secret could easily be broadcasted to others unintentionally. Furthermore, his own secrets are also not exceptions to this. Since he cannot keep a secret or tell a lie without being exposed, he chooses to display his true self to all.

He also isn't the brightest crayon in the box and will be most often found in a spaced out state, another defensive mechanism to avoid annoying others but he is actually really playful. This shows in his interest in hair and cosmetics but more often than not, he won't act upon playing with another's hair since the act feels rather intimate to him due to his conservative background. Much to his dismay, his intentions are probably the most often transmitted thought given with how tempted he may be to fix a stray lock of hair or if someone's hair would look cuter braided. If the host of his temptation turns to look at him as he's thinking of it, he will become too flustered to look at that person for the rest of the day unless asked to.

As someone who lived isolated on a mountaintop for so long and with only an icecube of a mother for company, he hasn't really seen much of the world, leaving him with unbridled curiosity. With his playful nature drawing him forward and his lack of experience lending a hand, he has a tendency to get into dangerous situations which classmates or teachers from his first year at school have to get him out of. Knowing that they didn't have to rescue him from these predicaments, he returns the favor to all around him with unconditional trust and kindness. Even if one were to look at him with contempt or find him a bother, as long as there's a connection between them, he will do his best to make them feel welcome and happy.

Background:
Before Mari was born, a fairy was assaulted by an incubus. Ashamed and afraid of judgement from her family, she fled with the excuse to explore the world. Sometime after, she arrived in Japan and ran into a beautiful snow woman ready to birth a child of her own. Thinking that the child would be much more appealing to the eyes of her family than her own abomination, the fairy suddenly thought up an idea. While the tradition of swapping their kids with human children had been banned for centuries, no one said one couldn't trade with another race. It was at that point she decided to keep tabs on the snow woman and planned to swap children once the time was ripe. Afterall, she didn't have the heart to kill her own child, even if it was a monster.

The wait didn't take long. Mari was born a week after the snow woman's child. On a particularly frosty night beneath the light of a full winter moon, the fairy stealthily moved to swap the children. Knowing the snow woman was a first time mother from the length of the observation, the fairy knew she had a small time window to work with. In a rush, she concealed her own child to look like the snow woman's child, accidentally overlooking one critical point. Their gender.

Without a doubt, the snow woman, Yukki, found out and was distraught to the point of falling into denial. From this moment forth, Mari was raised in place of Yukki's daughter and was even named after her sister. Life wasn't too hard for Mari. Although his mother was a fairly cold person, she'd always ask strangers who ventured near their homes to give him hugs for reasons unknown to him. He didn't mind this, their hugs had a foreign warmth in them that made him dream of a day where he would leave home and visit these warm beings. A day that came shortly after his 14th birthday. Yukki's original child found her way home full of complaints. Watching himself be replaced and given a brief explanation before being kicked out of his home, Mari felt strangely empty. He loitered about the front door for days before realizing that he really had no place there. Although he was a little dejected at first, he kept his own complaints buried and even thanked Yukki for her care before moving on.

At first he tried to make a home of his own on the mountain but had no idea how. Recalling the warm beings from before, he decided to ask them for advice. He was excited at first. He had never been far enough to see a land without snow. Whether it was snowy because his mother was by his side or if she just loved to live in a snowy climate, he wasn't sure but he soon found that life without her was rather hot and tiring. By the time he reached the nearest city, he fainted from dehydration. He woke up once more in a hospital where his life in civilization first started. It was a series of up and downs from that point on. They learned of his lack of proper education so they put him in a home and placed him in the most stressful place on Earth, High School.

His white hair obviously brought him issues. Girls adored him, thinking he looked like a celebrity. Taking his innocent nature for all it was worth, he became like a doll to them. They taught him to dress and care for himself. All in all, the treatment was not too different from how his mother treated him. The only difference was that the girls embraced his true gender and he no longer had to dress as a female. Finding their enthusiasm fun, Mari grew to love his own beauty and in turn became a little vain. Interactions with males however brought on some mixed results. Many were jealous over the attention girls gave him, others picked on him for being feminine, and the rest felt confused over how to feel about it. Having been pampered all of his life, Mari was clearly unable to handle the abuse for long. Between unable to cope with the "human" life and the physical torment, his peculiarity made itself known before those who picked on him. They were struck with a mass amount of information, his frustrations from the time he left home to the anger he pent up from their actions, and fell into comas they still have yet to wake from. Although this feat had yet to repeat itself, it didn't take a lot for people to know who the culprit was. The parents wanted him tried for assault, something Mari found a little funny considering that it was actually the other way around but it wasn't as if he didn't feel guilty. He would visit the victims often and gift them flowers. Luckily his caretaker at the time had money and connections, successfully keeping him safe from the adult world.

Unfortunately the same couldn't be said about his life at highschool. With his gift becoming more obvious by the day, he was labeled a freak of nature. His "friends" turned their backs on him. They passively picked on him. He soon found hate notes in his locker, writing on his desk and textbooks, and most of all; he was ostracised. Being treated like air wasn't too bad. Although he was lonely, he wasn't physically being picked on anymore. He only had to deal with it for a little bit.

Several months after his 15th birthday, he received a letter from elsewhere. It was full of words that he couldn't comprehend but he was sure of one thing; He was odd compared to those around him. Since he felt he didn't belong there, he prepared for the trip, bringing with him only clothes, cosmetics, and of course Phoebe.

Extra:
Ever since he was attacked by that unusual creature during his first year in Elsewhere, he has developed a fear of creatures with claws.

He also feels a little uncomfortable around other males, feeling that he can't really fit in with them.

Aside from his resistance to cold temperatures, he is actually fairly delicate and will cry from the slightest pain. Furthermore, he cannot handle heat well.

Cannot sing well but loves to sing. Cannot draw well but loves to draw.

The ability to move faster using elements. The user can travel at extraordinary speed using elements, either by using them to accelerate, gaining speed when in contact with elements or by some other means. In Litus's case, he can fuse with the dust kicked up by his hooves when he runs. Thus he transforms into a stream of dust for a short time. In this elemental form, his speed is heavily increased. At the moment, he can only manipulate the dust that he kicks up.

Background:

There was a lot of gossip surrounding Litus' conception. A year earlier, his mother Rutile had been dealt a devastating blow to her stomach that had supposedly rendered her infertile. Her loss caused her to temporarily leave her herd and for a while, she wandered the vast lands of Elsewhere. But one day she returned to her herd, pregnant and happy. The herd was happy for her but curious as to how she managed to carry a child after her injury. She never told them, and when she was asked she would simply smile down fondly at her swollen stomach.

Her foal's birth was met with horror and apprehension. The midwife shrieked in fear when a mass of fluid shot into the room and she wondered how she would tell Rutile that her child was a stillborn abomination. And that was when the fluid formed into a foal. To the midwife, that was more horrifying than a stillborn. But Rutile was fiercely protective of her son and and threatened the midwife into silence. Like most centaur midwives, the one who served Rutile was a nomad and left the area just as quickly as she had arrived.

With that crisis over, Rutile and her son Litus were welcomed into the herd easily. But three years later a massive tempest suddenly blew into the meadow and scattered the herd. Litus found himself alone in a forest that he had never seen before, with blank spots in his memory. All he could remember was that he used to live in a meadow with...Someone. Someone warm and kind. But he couldn't recall who.

The forest he found himself in was being 'explored' by a fairy named Teatinomi. (She was actually very prideful and didn't want to admit that she was lost). The fairy found that she could not abandon the young centaur, so she decided to take him with her on her travels and if they found their respective families along the way--well that would be a bonus! Unfortunately, they never found either of their families but by that time Tea and Litus were a family of their own. During their eighth year of traveling, they came upon Morello's college and never left.

(Eventually, Litus will find out that his mother Rutile had used magic to conceive him and the tempest that separated he, his mother and the herd was not a natural phenomenon, but the 'father' coming to claim his offspring.)
