"I'll take you," Shannon automatically offered. "We only have ten minutes and theatre studies afterwards, though. We'll save the big missions for lunchtime."

They had just stepped out of the cafeteria when Shannon sensed they were being followed. He didn't turn, and he kept his hand on Athena's waist to make sure she didn't, either. They had just rounded the corner and were now standing in the deserted area behind the maintenance shed, when Evangeline seemed to teleport before them.

She kept her eyes fixated on Shannon, deliberately not allowing them to stray to Athena. She looked gorgeous, like always, but now her flawless face wore and infuriated expression. She exhaled, her nostrils flaring as she stared down her brother.

"Shannon," she said bluntly. She was audibly working to keep her voice neutral. "I do not appreciate this reckless behaviour. After all we've done to keep you safe, you do this to us?"

Shannon sighed and rolled his eyes. "Evangeline, for Christ's sake, I can take care of myself."

"You have a scar -- "

"From a rabid mongrel seventy years ago," Shannon cut her off. "You can report me to Genevieve, I don't care. You're being ridiculous. I'm just showing her around."

"And showing her around means close interaction, which means your scent gets left on her." Evangeline took a few steps closer to Shannon, who stood his ground. "That leaves her pack knowing about us, which causes fights."

"You know what, you can go on this little crusade against the entire species for something that happened to ME almost a century ago. I'm going to go ahead and move on with my life." Shannon took Athena by the hand and pushed past Evangeline. His entire body was shaking with anger. He loved his sister, very much, but he was not going to let her stupid grudges and one-minded outlook on life restrict what he did and didn't do. Even it turned out that Athena was a phase, or she grew bored of him and made new friends, he would keep this going as long as he could just to spite his sister.

"Sorry about that," he said to Athena as they continued to walk.

Lucas waved goodbye to the two of them, secretly relieved he would have the last few minutes to himself. She followed after him happily but noticed something felt off. When she tried to turn around Shannon kept her from doing so by keeping his hand on her waist. It confused her slightly until she took a sniff of the air. His sister was coming.

Athena kept her head down as Evangeline spoke. This was a family matter and the both of them were right. He had to move on from the past but some were not so willing, her parents for example. Suddenly they were on the move again, going far away from his sister.

"She's right.. My step-mother won't be pleased once she smells me... And your scent is very distinct. Even if I were to shower it'll be at least two days before it stops." She kept her head low allowing her hair to flow down as he pulled her along.

She could sense that he was angry, it was a thing she picked up quickly as a werewolf. "It's not going to be just me either, my scent is all over you as well. I'm sure your mother won't be pleased.. Your sister was less than happy with just my existence." Athena cowered feeling the extent of the taller woman's anger. It was something similar to her step-mother when she would have her spouts of anger. It made her more afraid than anything.

Athena squeezed his hand as they walked, rubbing her eyes with the other. She didn't want to cry like she usually does at home after her mother comes home and treats her like crap. Her hands trembled slightly at the thought.

"Can.. Can we just go to our next class?" Her voice was soft and filled with doubts. She knew the moment she went home the girl was going to get it. Her father was disapproving of her hanging around vampires just as much as her step-mother. Back in the day he was attacked by one, things happen that he refused to tell Athena anything about. All she knows is that he has his reasons. Her step-mother had no real reason. The woman was just violent and lacked self control. "Please."

Shannon looked down at her when he heard the tears in her voice. What was wrong? Was she afraid of Evangeline? Or her stepmother? "Hey, I won't let my sister hurt you, okay?" He let go of her hand and instead slung his arm around her shoulders as he steered them in the direction of the theatre, where their next class was held. "And you can call me if your stepmother treats you too badly. I'll come pick you up."

Even as a human Shannon had always lived in a loving household. His human mother and father had seven other children but loved all of them dearly and equally. Genevieve had always treated Shannon and Evangeline like her own children, and Shannon could not ask for a better adoptive mother. He could not imagine living in a hostile home, especially one where a parent mistreats you. How could anyone live like that.

They reached the theatre five minutes before their class was supposed to start. Shannon led Athena to a seat halfway through the fourth row, too far back for anyone else to sit as the small class full of theatre kids and extroverts generally sat as close to the stage as humanely possible. Shannon put his feet up on the seat in front of him and bit his lip as he looked at Athena. The generally carefree boy was now worried, an emotion he was not accustomed to. Was he getting this girl into too much trouble.

"I'm serious," he said. "I'll come and get you if you need me to."

She once again took her seat next to the vampire boy, far enough back where no one would here them. The young werewolf had actually taken a liking to the theatrical arts as she grew up in the century that thrived with them. Listening to him speak gave her some reassurance to her dilemma.

Athena wasn't one to let her emotions slip unless she felt strongly about something. Being the youngest wolf, earning her the name pup amongst the others, made her fear other beings that exhibited any kind of harsh dominance over her. Her step-mother being one such a being. She didn't fear her father as he loved her dearly and she never had any problems with Lucas, the two never even got into an argument before.

She leaned over and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a hug. "Thank you.." She said in a soft voice close to his ear. If she ever needed someone to fall back on Athena felt that she can trust in him. She took a breath before returning to her natural sitting position.

"My step-mother will probably treat me worse if I were to leave. That woman despises me and no one knows why. Guess I'm not so perfect after all." Athena let out a laugh as she watched people go up on stage. She tried to keep her positivity about her but felt that it was harder knowing what was going to happen when she returned home. Lucas was usually the one to stop his mother from killing her but there are times when not even he is enough. Her father works long hours and usually isn't home, perfect time for the woman's true self to take fruition.

"I might take you up on your offer later today." She spoke plainly as she sank into the seat. Her body laid back into the chair and she too propped her legs up onto the chair in front of her, not caring what people could or couldn't see.

Her whole attitude about the day had changed. Her next class was with his psychotic sister who wanted her dead and promptly after that she would have to deal with her abusive step-mother. Perfect way to end her first day of classes.

When Shannon walked Athena to maths, he grabbed his sister by the elbow and pulled her to the side. She scowled at him.

"What?" she snapped.

"Leave her alone," Shannon hissed through gritted teeth. He glared at Evangeline before releasing her. He squeezed Athena's arm once, before walking away.

The last few classes of the day passed by in a blur. After Geography, the last class of the day, which he shared with Athena, he accompanied her to her locker, again attracting mixed stares from their peers.

"Will you be okay?" he asked her one last time.

(sorry for the short post I was a bit stumped of what to write)

People waved goodbye to her, people she didn't know the names of. One guy even tried to get her number which she declined and sent him on his way so she could speak with Shannon. Athena gave him a friendly smile before slamming her locker shut. "Guess I'll find out later. I have to walk home by myself today since Lucas is doing something. Don't forget what you said." She pat his arm before heading out the school.

The front entrance was filled with students trying to get home, either by piling up into buses or cars. Athena lived in the more rural area of the town, where all the large houses were. It wasn't terribly far but it would take a while if she walked. There was no way she was taking a bus and her mother refused to drive to get her so walking was her only means of transportation, not that she hated it. The breeze was refreshing after being held in a bunch of classrooms for the day.

Athena took her time getting home dreading the sight of her step-mother. As of this current moment the household consisted of just the two of them. Them, alone in a large house, far away where no one can hear the screams; wasn't the most ideal. When she finally reached her house, about forty-five minutes later, she pulled hey keys from her bag to open the door. Just as it opened there she was, the devil herself. The woman sniffed the air around her and stopped when her eyes landed on Athena.

"I thought I smelled something disgusting. What have you been doing?" Ambrose questioned her with a stern tone as Athena walked past her into the house.

"I was at school." Athena answered respectfully earning herself an angered look. Her step-mother grabbed her by the wrist, her claws starting to come out.

"Stupid girl you know what I meant. What are you doing smelling like a vampire? The scent is far too strong on you for it to be a chance encounter." She growled at Athena, her fangs ever present. "You know how your father and I feel about vampires. Have you not learned from the last time you disobeyed me?" Athena broke herself away from her step-mother, rubbing her slightly bruised wrist.

"Oh I remember. The scars are still there." She said as she backed away. Her step-mother had the look of pure rage as she started to transform. This was not a fight Athena was willing to have. Her step-brother and father weren't there to help her and she was far weaker than her step-mother. The only thing that came to mind was to run and not stop running. She quickly pulled her phone out of her pocket, dropped her bag, and ran out the backdoor. Her mother wouldn't risk hunting her if she went to town. She had to be anywhere but that house until someone else came home. This was just what she feared would happen.

Athena thought of various places she could go as she ran towards the center of town. That was the more city like area and she was very unfamiliar with her surroundings. Once she figured she was far enough, she stopped to catch her breath. "Damn it.." She leaned up against a wall in some strange alleyway and pulled out her phone. She didn't want to include him into her issues but he said he would help if she needed it. Without another thought Athena typed the number written on her hand on her phone and sent a text;

'Looks like I wasn't okay. Got lost in town and can't go home.'

Send.

After half an hour of being lectured by his mother on the dangers of socialising with werewolves, especially ones new to the area, Shannon was ready to kill himself. He knew Genevieve knew he wasn't going to take any of her advice, but he also knew she was just as stubborn as he and Evangeline, so he did not try and make her shut up. He slouched in the dining room chair she stood before, looking up at her with an incredibly bored expression on his face as she blabbed on. How do women talk so much?

She was finally done. She stepped back, crossed her arms over her chest and frowned down at her son. "Were you listening to me at all, Shannon?"

"I was listening," Shannon assured her. He stood up and made his way into the kitchen, where the three vampires kept blood bags in their refrigerator. Fresh blood tasted nicer but was not always accessible. He put a bag in the microwave as he continued. "I just think you and Evangeline are completely overreacting. Athena is no threat to us."

Genevieve sighed. "Athena may not be a threat to us, but you cannot say the same thing about the rest of her family! Her mother and father! You know just as well as I do that grown werewolves are a lot more territorial and protective of their young than the younger wolves."

Protective, Shannon internally snorted. He pierced the plastic blood bag with his teeth -- no fangs were needed to break the flimsy bags -- and poured its contents into a clear wine glass, because he was classy. "Genevieve, I'm a big boy." He sipped the rich, piping hot liquid as he looked his mother in the eyes. "I can take care of myself."

Genevieve sighed again just as Shannon's phone beeped. He drank the rest of the blood as he read the text. The number was not registered as a contact in his phone but he immediately recognised it as Athena's. She needed help. Shannon was out of the door before Genevieve could even ask where he was going.

Finding Athena proved to be very simple; her scent was registered in his brain, and as soon as he found a trace of her near the library in the middle of the town he was able to run fast enough that no one could see him. Perks of being a vampire. He blurred through the streets until he appeared directly beside Athena; luckily, no one was in the alley so they could not see him appear to apparate beside her. He had reached her within two minutes of her sending the text.

"Are you okay? Did she touch you?" Shannon grabbed her by the shoulders and looked her up and down to make sure she had no bruises or cuts anywhere on her perfect skin. Well, if she had been cut he would have smelled it at once. He definitely smelled like fresh blood to her.

"You got here quick." Athena blinked a few times seeing Shannon appear next to her in what felt like the blink of an eye. She didn't know vampires were that fast. As soon as he got there he inspected her body and asked her questions. Her body was still filled with adrenaline but she managed to get out a few words.

"I'm fine.. I'm fine.." She winced a bit as she lifted her hand off her wrist. It was blatantly a mixture of purples, reds, and blues all around it in what would have formed a hand. Lucky for her, the bone hadn't snapped. The tissue all around her wrist on the other hand, was not so fortunate as it was full of bruises, some darker than others.

"I just need time for my body to heal itself.. And I didn't want to be alone since I can't go home right now.." Fear was written all over her face. The last thing she wanted was for her step-mother to find her. "This is nothing compared to what she's done." She let out a small laugh before she looked up at the sky. "This is nothing..."

Her eyes closed briefly to calm herself down. "Let's go somewhere else. I don't exactly feel safe in a dark alley even if I am a werewolf." She opened her eyes so she could look up into his. "Thank you for coming to my rescue, Mr. Popular." Her smile was small, hiding the pain she felt inside from her wrist.

People passed by the alley, some staring at the two as they walked past and others not even noticing. It made her uneasy to be somewhere where she can't have a full view of her surroundings. An alleyway was enclosed by two walls, no way to see what's coming from down the street until it passes. That wasn't something she liked. "How'd your mother take to finding out you were with me?"

S H A N N O N ♦ W I N T E R S

Shannon frowned at her bruised, battered wrist as he spoke. "She was not mad, to my surprise, just disappointed." He lead her out of the alley and in the direction of a diner. "She gave me a half hour-long lecture, but you know what they say, in one ear and out the other." Without thinking, he snaked his hand down her arm and ever so gently placed his icy fingers on her bruises. When Kasey had injured herself in cheerleading, he had often rubbed the bruises and they would heal quicker than normal. Vampire saliva also had healing properties, he had discovered when fooling around with Kasey.

They reached the diner and slipped into a booth. Shannon sat across from her, assumed his usual head-on-hand position and frowned. "Why don't you just tell your father what she is doing to you?" he asked her. "Sure, she's is wife but you're his daughter. That should mean something, right?"

If Shannon were in Athena's father's position, he would throw the wretch out of his home for laying a finger on his child. Shannon was not a father and he never could be, but he imagined himself as a protective, loving patriarch who would do everything in his power to ensure his children and wife were safe and looked-after. Why was Mr Belvidere not doing this? What kind of a parent lets their spouse abuse their children?

To his dismay, their waitress was Chloe, one of Kasey's friends. She walked over to Shannon and Athena's table and said, with a distinct attitude to her already bratty tone, "Hm, so you've already moved on from Kasey with the first slut you could get your hands on, Shannon? Classy."

Shannon straightened up, staring Chloe down with a dangerous look in his eye. "I was under the impression that you were here to work, Chloe, not make invalid and unnecessary assumptions about your classmates. What would you manager think of you if I told them you spent your time here abusing the customers instead of doing what you've been told?"

Chloe glowered. "What do you want, then?"

"I'm fine, personally, I ate before." He winked at Athena. "Athena will have a chocolate milkshake, however."

Chloe stomped away.

"I see her friends are still holding a grudge and decided to pass on the anger to me. I'll add them to the ever growing list of names." Athena smiled briefly before looking down at her wrist, which to her surprise was healing quicker than she expected even though she hadn't eaten in a while.

"My father doesn't know and I can't tell him. After what happened to my mother he wasn't okay.. This woman, despite how horrible she is to me, makes him happy and I can't take that away from him. Lucas looks out for me but he isn't always around as you can see by today." Her attention shifted to the people walking around the town. "If I have to take whatever she does to me for the sake of his happiness then so be it." She moved some hair out of her face as she returned her attention back to Shannon. She could tell that he was worried about her, but she wasn't sure why. They had just met, vampires hate werewolves, yet here they were conversing in a common ground.

"Besides, a battered wrist is nothing compared to what happened before we moved." Athena looked down remembering how bad things got before Lucas was able to calm her down. Her father was in Witham buying their new home and her step-mother had gotten angry that she didn't do the dishes, it was Lucas' turn, which he informed her of. The woman didn't care, she just wanted a reason to do it.

"I would have bled out in all honesty if Lucas wasn't there." She stood up from her chair and lifted her blouse just enough to show the small scars scattered across her stomach. "They didn't fully heal yet since it was so deep." Within that moment Kasey's friend, Chloe, came running past their booth as her shirt was still up.

"Whore." The girl said under her breath but Athena still heard it thanks to her abilities. She lowered her shirt and sat down in the booth across from Shannon.

"If she says something to me one more time... I better get that milkshake soon or someone is losing a few fingers." She clenched her fist as she looked down, still feeling the pain of her bruised wrist as she did so. Athena felt vulnerable, a sensation she did not enjoy, so she was very touchy and quick to snap.

S H A N N O N ♦ W I N T E R S

Shannon's eyes widened at the speckled scars on Athena's abdomen. How could anyone do such a thing to their stepchild? A child that they had sworn to love and protect as if they were their own. Lucas clearly got the idea; they could have been biological siblings, that was how close the two were. How could such a depraved, barbaric woman have created a kind, carefree guy like Lucas.

He was momentarily distracted by Chloe's remark. "I'm sorry about her," he said to Athena. "And Kasey. I didn't even break up with her meanly. At least I did it in person, unlike her ex, who dumped her over Facebook." He picked little bits of dirt out of his nails as he remembered the occasion. There had been a lot of tears, Kasey had tried to slap him, and according to Evangeline a grand total of six angry tweets had been written about him. Shannon considered the entire affair rather childish and immature.

Chloe finally arrived with Athena's milkshake. She slammed it down in front of the girl, repeating the same slur under her breath as she walked away. Shannon scowled at the back of her head, before turning to the milkshake. "I hope you like it. It looks utterly repugnant," he said, scrunching his nose in disgust.

He felt like he had known Athena for eight hundred years, rather than eight hours. Was it because they were both ancient beings with old souls? Supernaturals tended to band together quickly, but such relationships were usually found within a species. Vampires and werewolves were supposed to hate each other, but Shannon felt that Athena was similar to him in both personality and temperament. An age-old friendship had been established in less than a day. He was closer to the pretty wolf girl than he had ever been to a human. One thousand times closer than he had ever been to Kasey. How could this be?

"I'm going to bite her fingers off." Her eyes changed to a silvery color and her wolf like fangs started to appear. "I-" Her eyes widened as she cut herself off. She was overreacting to the irrelevant girl with a grudge. She changed back to how she was before and took a sip of her milkshake.

"It's sweet..." Her cheeks were lightly blushed as the sweet taste swirled her senses. She loved anything that was sweet and her body reacted to it accordingly.

"I'm sorry... I shouldn't have called you. I just... I panicked. Now you're here and you don't have to be." Athena started to ramble on until her eyes met his as she spoke. The poor girl was flustered beyond belief and she felt bad for dragging him into this. It was her problem that she had to deal with. The last person she told about this tried to call the police, to which her step-mother killed along with the boy and they had to leave the state.

"You can't tell a soul about my scars." Her tone was almost desperate as she took another sip of the chocolate milkshake. Between her pink cheeks and the worried look in her eye, one couldn't tell if she was jolly or distressed. "And I'm sorry about Kasey.. I shouldn't have done what I did in class. I made it harder for you."

She felt fully responsible for her actions and wanted to forgive herself but she couldn't. It just wasn't who she was, even if he was to forgive her for making such a mess of things, that was something she was going to hold with her for a long time. "Now I'm just apologizing too much. I'll just shut up." Athena kept her eyes on her chocolate milkshake, it was more than halfway done since she eats rather quickly.

Shannon snickered and rolled his eyes. "You don't need to be sorry for what you did in class, it was bloody brilliant. No pun intended." He leaned back, smiling for once. "I like your attitude. I'm kind of the same, I guess. We could do great things together."

Shannon did not like seeing this outspoken, sassy, mischievous girl look so broken and upset. He frowned. "Athena, please, don't be sorry for calling me. I cannot relate to you in any way regarding this particular situation but the last thing I want to happen to you is for you to feel like you have no one. Please, just call me if you ever need me. Even at three a.m. I don't sleep, anyway. And I swear, I will never tell anyone."

He checked the time on his phone; five o'clock. The sun wouldn't be setting for another hour or two. "Do you want to go to the beach or something? There's never anyone there this late in the winter." He grabbed Chloe by the elbow as she passed and handed her a five pound note, which she snatched from him and then shot a filthy look at Athena. She walked away before the werewolf could react.

She blushed to his praises, trying to hide the small smile that tried to creep its way onto her face. She had been praised and complimented before but it felt different hearing it from him. Still, the rose gold haired girl had no idea why. Why did this vampire boy make her feel different? Was it because he acted like he cared so deeply about her? Or was it because she found herself relating to him easier because he wasn't human? It gave her a slight sense of security knowing that she could relate to him in such a way. When she is with humans it feels very one sided, like she only does it for the satisfaction of not dying from boredom.

Athena sipped the last of her milkshake, savoring the taste as it made her taste buds tingle. "Thank you, for being so kind to me." She moved the glass aside as she slid out of the booth, instantly shooting up at the mention of a beach.

"There are beaches here?? Can we go pretty please? I love the beach!" A sudden glimmer of excitement appeared in her eye as she eagerly awaited her trip to the beach. She hadn't been to a beach in years and she always loved the feeling of wet sand squishing between her toes.

"Come on come on! You have to take me!" She whined as she grabbed his hands trying to pull him out of the booth. Athena was eager to go and get away from all everything. Being at a vacant beach was just the place for her to clear her mind. If she knew there was a beach here she would have asked to go there first.

"Okay okay, calm down," laughed Shannon. He allowed her to drag him out of the booth and the diner. Keeping her small hand clasped in his dainty one, he pulled her along as they walked five minutes to the Witham beach.

"Sorry there's no sand," he commented. Instead of sand the shore was covered in millions of multi-coloured, smooth, flat stones. He reached down and picked one up. "Look, it's the colour of your hair." He handed the small stone to her and walked towards the small, lapping waves, taking his shoes off as he went.

Like he had said, there was no one else on the entire beach, meaning the only relevant sound was that of the soft, roaring ocean. He rolled up the legs of his jeans a little and stepped into the water. He inhaled, allowing the salty brine of the ocean to fill his nose. After being cooped up in disgustingly modern classrooms all day, the fresh scent of nature was calming. He felt the stress of the day roll off his skin and sink into the water at his feet.

Athena marveled at the rocks the laced the beach like sand. She had never really seen a beach like this before. When he handed her the rock she looked at it intently, examining its color as it was similar to her hair. She wanted to keep the rock so she placed it in her shoe after taking them off.

"We should go swimming. I don't really get cold too quickly and I love the water." She suggested as she walked on the rocks towards Shannon, walking on the balls of her feet in a wolf life manner. It was comfortable for her to walk in such a way since she was actually a wolf but she only did it every so often. "That is, unless you're too afraid to do a little night swimming." She teased as started walking back towards her shoes.

The water wasn't cold to her and she had every intention of swimming in it. Athena absolutely adored being in the outdoors, amongst the wildlife that has evolved with this planet. The crashing waves and salty ocean scent made her feel at peace with everything that has been going on. "I bet you're too scared of the water." She egged him on as she started unbuttoning her blouse. If she was swimming she was not getting her clothes wet.

S H A N N O N ♦ W I N T E R S

Shannon peeled his shirt and jacket off, revealing his sculpted chest and stomach, and kicked off his jeans, leaving him in his boxers as he threw the pile of clothes onto the stones. He sneaked a glance at Athena, standing there in her bra and underwear. She was spectacular.

"Scared?" he drawled, raising an eyebrow. After checking to make sure there was absolutely no one else on the beach, he lunged forward, grabbed Athena around the waist, threw himself backwards into the water and swam like a shark for a few seconds until they were a solid forty metres away from the shoreline. It was deep enough that Shannon could stand up and keep his head above the water, but Athena could not, so he kept his hands respectfully on her waist to keep her afloat.

"I am a predator, Athena, there's nothing in this ocean I should be scared of," he teased the spluttering werewolf in his arms. He wondered if she saw the long scar on his back, and what she thought of it if she had.

Athena flailed as she was dragged all the way from shore. She reached her foot down cautiously aiming to touch the ground but quickly realized she couldn't as he held on to her. "You meanie beanie! I'm too short to stand!" She frowned as the waves started to knock her over. The idea of being carried away to the ocean didn't appeal to her so she wrapped her legs around his torso. "Hope you don't mind." She teased.

"What if a shark comes and eats you? Then what would happen to me?" She laughed at the thought as she felt the waves moving around her. The water was cold but refreshingly so. "The answer is that I'd drown or the shark would eat me too. I'm too cute to be eaten by a shark!" She whined as she laughed. The idea was all too hilarious to her knowing that she could easily avoid the shark if she really had to.

As some of the waves got larger she started to crawl up his body to avoid being knocked under water. Soon enough she found herself halfway over his shoulder and clinging to him like her life depended on it. "I swear if you let me go you'll never be able to live it down." She pressed her body tightly against his worried that she would be dragged away by a current.

"Oh don't worry, I won't let you go," Shannon said, right before he sank them both to bottom of the sea.

They were only just under the surface, sitting on the sandy floor. He kept his hands around her arms to stop her from kicking up to the surface. He could see perfectly; her pink hair floated around her face like a pastel mermaid. Her fingernails were digging into his arms, so he slung her over his back like a backpack and kicked to the surface.

"Sorry, I forgot, you puny werewolves actually need to breathe," he scoffed jokingly. She was sitting on his back in a piggyback position. She could see his scar if she wanted to. "Okay, I'm done with being a twat, I won't do that again," he promised. Shannon walked towards the shore until he reached a part where Athena would be able to stand. He deposited her on her feet and sank until only his head was visible.

Her rose gold hair swayed like a jellyfish in the water as she flailed to get free. She started to panic when she was running out of oxygen but luckily he brought her back to the surface of the water. Athena gasped for air, taking deep breaths as she coughed up water. She pouted as if she was a child that didn't get that toy in the store as she turned to look at him.

"First of all, I'm not little," She said as she smacked him over the head. "Second, if you ever scare me like that again I will make your whole school life a miserable experience." She stated her words plainly and without any hint of frustration. Being held under the water caught her by surprise and proved that she was still vulnerable to various things.

Athena then got closer to Shannon, assuming that he was sitting on the bottom she crouched down just enough so that her hair barely touched the water. "I saw something before.. While I was on your back. I didn't notice it until after you almost drowned me though. Where'd you get it? I'm guessing your scars aren't from you mother like mine are so spill it." Her now wavy hair swayed with the water as she kept most of her body under. She still had many scars that had yet to heal on her lower back and stomach area to which she felt a shred of shame about.
