"I'll take you," Shannon automatically offered. "We only have ten minutes and theatre studies afterwards, though. We'll save the big missions for lunchtime."
They had just stepped out of the cafeteria when Shannon sensed they were being followed. He didn't turn, and he kept his hand on Athena's waist to make sure she didn't, either. They had just rounded the corner and were now standing in the deserted area behind the maintenance shed, when Evangeline seemed to teleport before them.
She kept her eyes fixated on Shannon, deliberately not allowing them to stray to Athena. She looked gorgeous, like always, but now her flawless face wore and infuriated expression. She exhaled, her nostrils flaring as she stared down her brother.
"Shannon," she said bluntly. She was audibly working to keep her voice neutral. "I do not appreciate this reckless behaviour. After all we've done to keep you safe, you do this to us?"
Shannon sighed and rolled his eyes. "Evangeline, for Christ's sake, I can take care of myself."
"You have a scar -- "
"From a rabid mongrel seventy years ago," Shannon cut her off. "You can report me to Genevieve, I don't care. You're being ridiculous. I'm just showing her around."
"And showing her around means close interaction, which means your scent gets left on her." Evangeline took a few steps closer to Shannon, who stood his ground. "That leaves her pack knowing about us, which causes fights."
"You know what, you can go on this little crusade against the entire species for something that happened to ME almost a century ago. I'm going to go ahead and move on with my life." Shannon took Athena by the hand and pushed past Evangeline. His entire body was shaking with anger. He loved his sister, very much, but he was not going to let her stupid grudges and one-minded outlook on life restrict what he did and didn't do. Even it turned out that Athena was a phase, or she grew bored of him and made new friends, he would keep this going as long as he could just to spite his sister.
"Sorry about that," he said to Athena as they continued to walk.
