I initially wanted to make this a 'VRMMO RP where the device gets stuck on your brain' thing, but nah.

It must as well be a VRMMO RP, but...

This was initially going to be a spiritual revival of this RP, with the second installment of the RP being based on that, but my tweaks around were too major.

The explanation for how people get in is closer to Log Horizon than SAO.

Basically, during the release of the highly-hyped free-to-play Online game, 'Legends of Sekkaichi', people attempt to log in, customize their characters, and then suddenly, the server goes on maintenance when they try to connect.

The next day, they wake up not at home, but in the world of the game itself.

The setting of Sekkaichi is primarily oriental, as are all playable races and classes. I'm saving the classy Occidental Fantasy for another installment in this long line of RPs I've planned called 'Code Saga'.

There'll be very little Western Inspiration and more Eastern inspiration here. I did this so that I could concentrate on Oriental races.

I'm still contemplating a proper plot. All I know is that I want our characters to be in feasible groups, as well as various places.

I won't need map-planning.

Playable Races (HEAVY WIP)

Humans
A widespread race in Sekkaichi lands, and the ones least attuned to nature(not including Moon Rabbits, but they don't count because, you know, they're from the Moon). At least in general and on average anyways. Humans are heavily varied and adaptable, but a majority of them live in cities and villages and thrive there. There are some humans that live far from civilisation and are one with nature.

Beast Yokai
Various types of yokai that were once animals, but have outlived their average lifespan and will continue to live up till mellenia. They mostly consist of but are not limited to Kitsune, Bake-danuki/Tanuki, Kamaitachi, Bakeneko and Inugami. These Yokai have mild animalistic traits in a newly-acquired humanoid form that they can transform into, and can turn back to their animalistic forms at will.
They possess illusionary and occult powers unlike any other, and seeing that they are hard to distinguish from common animals while under disguise, many farmers find fear in chasing them off their farms. When they do, and the pest turns out to be a yokai... well... let's not get there.
These yokai are filled with mischief. Be wary!
These Yokai are not too fond of human clothing, due to their animal origins.

Tsukumogami
Tsukumogami are inanimate objects that have been abandoned by humans and have come to life after many years. Various Tsukumogami have manifested a singular human form to create the perfect warrior.

Oni

Tengu

Moon Rabbit
A mysterious race believed to from the moon. They are rumoured to be constantly searching for someone they refer to as 'The Moon Princess'. The Moon Rabbits are highly intelligent and specialise in machinery.

This looks interesting!

If you need help with creating races or anything, I'd be willing to lend a hand.

Race suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, why not start with elves? I find that they're a fun race to play with, especially when there are different categories of elf.

Regular, woodland elves that tend to live in forested areas. Depending on how you want the roleplay to go, they could have their own territory, kingdom. Most of them are archers or mages.

Drow elves who have grey or black skin and red/yellow/purple eyes. They tend to not do well under sunlight, but they do well with crafting. Most of them are thieves or rogues.

And mire elves, which are a species that I created! They're the smallest kind of elf (about 5'1" to 5'9"), and tend to flourish in caves and marshes. There are small, mire elf settlements in cave systems or mountainsides. They tend to use dark magic.

Like mentioned, I'm limiting this RP to Oriental stuff. I'll save your suggestions for another installment that has Occidental inspiration.

My bad!

How about Kappa? I'm not sure if you would count them in the beast yokai section?

Additionally, you could draw inspiration from the female rain spirit, Ameonna, and make a female-only race of weather-controlling spirits?

And there is Hibagon, who is basically the Japanese equivalent of Bigfoot.

I like your second idea and will highly consider integrating it through some way. I'll likely integrate it with the Yuki-onna into one race and add original stuff like other weather/seasons.

Kappa and Hibagon... I kind of feel like they should be NPCs/Field mooks. Beast Yokai(should rename it Mirage Beast Yokai) are for those with my occult and illusionary capabilities. Kappa are chimerical and only partially mammalian anyways.

There's lots of myths to draw from. Some work better as mooks and some are harder to integrate. I initially considered an arthropod-themed playable race but I ditched the idea. Same with Jiangshi, but they were too zombie-like in nature.

I'll probably include Wyrmlings(Eastern kind, obviously). They'll be humanoid and stuff.

That all sounds good! And the concept of Wyrmlings is interesting, too!

I won't be going too specific for species ideas until you give them the OK.

I imagine that Kappa and Hibagon will be merchants and officials and such, which makes sense.

Maybe add in Oni as a specific race? There could be different types of Oni. Such as, Ushi-oni, which could be minotaur-like creatures.

Alright, Oni will be male-only while Mirage Beast Yokai and Weather Spirits will be female-only.

Of course, this is only from a mechanic standpoint. Female Oni and male Mirage Beasts are so rare, players cannot be them. Weather Spirits, however, are indeed fully female.

Jiang Shi are always nice.

This looks interesting. I thought about Shinigami but then discarded the thought, I don't think they would fit to well unless they were a just a group of Warriors from all the races.

I might add more races, but for now I'm thinking - make Jiangshi a playable race or let it be a possible summon for people with basic Necromancy skill?

Hmmm... you know how some MMO-based RPs have this thing where vampires convert? What if getting killed by Jiangshi converts due to the vengeance spilt onto you, and you have to find a cure and all that? While there's no time limit, you'll be slower and have reduced defenses.

Shinigami will probably be an NPC-only race that do Shinigami stuff. Maybe they'll be friendly figures that say 'thanks for catching these criminals for me. Back to the Underworld they go!'.

Also I scrapped the idea of Wyrmlings for this RP after a bit of thinking.

I have an urge to introduce a Tennin race but we already have two female-only races and Tengu are pretty celestial.

I think that, in exchange for slowed reactions or lower defenses, a Jiang Shi would have ridiculous HP, and perhaps some sort of lifesteal bonus. A playable race like that could make for some interesting shenanigans, because just having deficits makes things sadddddd.
