Mirror of The Shade

And in that water was death and decay. The reflection of all that stood verdantly around them now. He had heard of this place so long ago, from his grandfather, but now finally he could see it with his own eyes.

"What do you think?" he asked generally.

In the moonlight, he shivered at the sight of the opposite world. What would happen should someone venture into those waters?

As Thessalia looked into the pool she understood why her parents had been so adamant about her not coming here during the full moon. She became frozen. She wanted to run; she wanted to run back home and never come back, but yet she couldn't bring herself to look away. The world, although terrifying, was also just so wondrous and impossible that the sight of it all but hypnotized her. She began to inch closer to the pool without even realizing it. 'What would happen if I touched it?' She wondered. She reached a hand over the water as she continued to stare into the decaying world. The temptation was just too much for her; she slowly brought her hand down to touch the water.

As she touched her hand to the calm waters, it could be seen on the other side of the surface. No reflection of their world could be seen. In the land shown by the Mirror of The Shade, her hand would feel the cold, death-reeking air instead of the waters of the pool. Bats streaked across the sky, and a skeletal horse, rotted flesh barely hanging onto the bones, looked into the pond at the girl. Though it had no eyes, it looked straight at her, then turned and trotted off into the dark night.
