Midwinter

Something broke him from his concentration of thought. It was the tugging on his hair again. Karasu glanced at Acaia and gave her a serious face. "You know.. This means war now," he said in a monotone voice. The snow was freezing as he picked a small pile and threw it at her. A small smirk on his face after he threw it. Good thing she got his attention, he was daydreaming again. A small voice behind him caused him to turn around.

"Tart? Why not," he simply replied as his eyes looked at the new face. She seemed like an interesting person, he doesn't recall ever talking to her before. Karasu was sure he would have remember those ears and tail. He gave her a friendly smile after realizing he might be staring to hard and had a blank expression.

Acaia knew she may have seemed a bit cold. She just didn't want to disappoint any others. Letting the kids she took care of on a daily basis down... and now her friends. It hurt her more than anything. The snow ball fight still continued as she showed no sign of these thoughts. One of the kids snuck up behind her and slipped snow down her back. Acaia danced around a bit trying to get the melted water out from dripping. She quickly turned around to the kid and smashed the snowball in her hand on the kids head. She couldn't help but laugh hysterically. She knelled down to the kid and whispered in his ear.

The kid nodded at her as she stood to her feet. The kid picked up a snowball then handed it to Acaia. He made another and kept it in his hand. The little boy chucked the snowball over at Karasu as Acaia threw hers at Shiro. They made sure not to hit the tarts or the girl in anyway. Their aim was flawless. Her and all the kids began to laugh. Acaia just was trying to make herself seem less cold. Yet she knew it wouldn't change anything. Puffs of clouds escaped her lips. She let down her hair letting it fall to her waist then put up her hood. She found herself staring at Shiro and Karasu a bit then turned her head away. She just stood there smiling at the kids as they went back to playing in the snow. Her gaze faded out into a spacey type way.

Menla watched the two boys with a smile on her face. It was strange though....she had never set her green eyes on these people before. It was such a small existence for them, it seemed everyone would have met everyone by now. Furthermore they all struck her as people who had excitement...or were in the process of finding some. Menla continued to stare at each of them in turn a realized the blank stare going her way. o_o she blinked and snapped out of her though "that's great!"

She started to pull out some tarts to hand out but snowballs whizzed by smacking into the to guys. She grinned and dropped the basket in the snow joining in the fight by throwing a very inaccurate snowball at one of the kids. Now pouting and disappointed at her failure she yanked her hood down believing that was what was hindering her. Her eyes flickered to each of her potential targets as she pulled together a snow ball. The snow was very cold but it didn't bother her a whole lot her animal blood had given her a small immunity for things just like this. In a place like this Nekos really had a benefit. tail swaying and ears turning to the different sounds, she picked her target and threw. Not only was it inaccurate...Menla ended up throwing it behind her and into (I'm not really sure who is where so please forgive me if I do this wrongly-zena) Karasu.

Shiro waited to recive one of the tarts when a snowball hit him smack across the face. Wipping it off he looked up to see Acaia looking away quickly as if it never happned. He walked over and then picked her up in his arms. There was a huge snow pile infront of them and he threw her into the snow pile and burst out laughing relizing how this turnned out into a huge snow fight. He made two snow balls and threw one smack at Karasu and the other at the little boy.

Her daydreaming cut short as she felt herself move into the air and against a chest. Her eyes peered up to see Shiro. Not only attractive, he was quite strong. Her hands tried to grasp him before he tossed her in the snow. The snow gcrunthed under her as she had landed while puffs of snow pushed up into the air. She saw the smile on his face as he had laughed. It was something new to see from the boy. Acaia smirked and pulled the boy down with her. As he fell on top of her, she smiled and smashed a snowball on his head. The snow crunched some more with the air fighting the snowflakes that wanted to float back upwards. Her laugh drowned out his. It was actually fun. They were having the time of their lives. The festival was days away and soon the gate would have been opened. Her eyes stared into his with a smile across her face. Her cheeks beet red and her nose a bit chilly to match. Her free hand formed a ball then chucked it at the new girl. Acaia decided to break any tension and wrong ideas about her attitude of the girl. As she peered over Karasu and Menla had a little battle of their own. Her focus went back to the guy to had landed on top of her. She stuck his tongue up at him showing, she delivered pay back.

Somehow in the mist of him trying to get a tart from the new girl, he was attacked by several snowballs. One from one of the little kids, the new girl, and Shiro. The boy just stood there for a moment afterwards. He took a bite from the tart and let the taste flow through his mouth. It wasn't bad at all. Karasu glanced up at the neko girl with those blue eyes.

"These are pretty good. And by the way my name is Karasu. I don't think we have met yet," he said in a calm voice. The boy then scooped up a snow to make a few snowballs. His eyes suddenly dash to Acaia, the mastermind behind the kids. The fired one quickly at her while she was busy with Shiro. Before he let Shiro react to the initial snowball, he fired one at him as well.

Karasu smiled and look back at Menla, one snowball left in his hand.

While Acaia and Shiro duked it out, Menla watched them stunned. Where had her snowball gone....? She quickly turned around in a tight circle looking at the ground for intended weapon. Her fluffy red tail following her. Looking up she covered her mouth trying not to laugh, when low and behold she spotted it in Karasu's face. "I'm sorry!" she said through her laughing teeth. After Karasu took a bite of his tart he looked at her. Menla froze and couldn't help but stare at his blue eyes. Blue was one of the most fascinating colors to her and it was even more interesting on men for some reason, she wasn't really sure why.

Menla smiled after his complement on her tarts and smiled even broader when he told her his name. She nodded then shook her head " No I don't believe we have. "She said trying to sound as sophisticated as she could " My sisters call me Menla...but...please call me Mela." she looked at the snow on his shoulders "You look pretty go-" a snowball smashed itself on the side of her head interrupting the conversation. She laughed and wiped the snow off her face and neck spitting some out with it. she laughed again "Now that's jus-" Menla stopped in mid sentence as she looked up to see Karasu with a leftover snowball in his hand. After seeing him throw the others at there intended targets, she knew who this one was intended for. Her mouth opened and she slowly raised her hand ready to block but suddenly decided to run behind one of the shop polls. Glanceing around she accidently hit the poll to hard knocking the snow from the roof onto her pulling her to the ground with snow in her lap. *cough* *cough* her ears twitched irritated by the snow on her head. *cough* "ok!..ok! I give up!" *cough* she said that in hopes that he might not...would not...could not.. possibly throw the snowball she had intended to escape.

Shiro laughed and then felt himself fall ontop of Acaia. He looked at her and then felt his face smashed against a cold snowball and he shivered slightly. He was getting hit bby sowballs in two diffrent dirrections and he quickly made himself two and flung one at Karasu and then at the new girl who was pleasding that she'd given up. He turned his attention back to Acaia who's face was inches from his and the redness shown on his face made him smile more. It was cute, he wipped the snow that was on her cheek and kepy his eyes on hers.

Karasu watched as a snowball hit her on the side of the face. His eyes followed her around while she was getting attacked by snow falling from the roof. He couldn't help but to let out a chuckle. "You make it too easy, I didn't even have to move," he said afterwards. Suddenly something hit him in the back of the head, sending a wet cold sensation through his body. He turned to see another snowball fly towards Menla.

With a swift kick in the air, his foot made contact with the snowball. It caused the snowball to explode into gentle particles of snow that floated in the air for a moment. He looked at Shiro and gave him a smirk before turning back to the neko girl. Each step made a soft sound of snow crunching under his foot before he made his way in front of her. Karasu squat down and said in a soft voice, "Now Mela, you can't give up yet. Revenge is a dish best served cold." He took the snowball and pressed it towards her face til her nose was in it. A smile appeared on his face after doing so.

The snow lightly sprinkled over the town. The adults went on with their lives with out a care in the world about the wall. The kids played in the snow after being able to have some fun with the older ones. The group that was all together split in two. By the market, Karasu and Menla had their snow ball fight, which turned into a forfeit on her part. The other two goof around. Their snowball fight died down. There they laid in a big pile of snow. Both their faces red and both pretty cold. Acadia was on the bottom looking up at Shiro. Their eyes locked at their faces so close. She felt the warmth of his touch against her cheek. Out of reaction she couldnt explain her cheek pushed into his palm. Her eyes opened back to gaze into his. She gave a smile seeing as he was too. Her hand curled up against his chest. Her heartbeat raced and she couldn't speak. She couldn't explain the feeling. All she knew was it was nice.

Shiro felt his heart pounding as if it was about to beat out of his chest. He was cold from the snow ball fight and laying in it but his body somewhat felt warm as his hand rested on Acaia's cheek. His his gazed into her's and he totally forgot the fact that they were laying in snow or that Karasu and Mela were in their own little world. All he was thinking about was her smile and how he had the urge to kiss her so he did. Leaning down he brushed his lips against hers softly feeling the warmth before pressing his lips against her's.

His face moved even closer to hers. Somehow she wasn't shocked. Her eyes did not widen and her body did not jump. The sign of shock was distant. She wanted this. Her body eased into his as their lips met. Acaia's eyes fluttered closed. His lips were a bit cold but they were sweet. Her cheeks even flushed out and became the normal color. The curled hand stretched out against his cushioned chest. The jacket was in her way but she wasn't complaining. They were kissing for heaven sakes. That's all she needed. In their own little world... Ignoring the kids close by in the snow. Ignoring Karasu and Mela by the market. Even the cold packs of snow around them and the flakes that drifted from above. She lightly pulled away even though she wanted to kiss this handsome guy above her again. Her eyes gradually opened again and met with his. She instantly smiled and kissed his lips once more then separated again.

Shiro deeped the kiss and then felt her hand on his chest so to speak. When she pulled away he caught his breath and then felt her lips press against his again. He was feeling light headed but in a good way and he stood up and brushed the snow off of him then took her hand and helped her up. His body felt super cold and he needed to head inside and warm up. " wow.." It was all the words he could manage to get out. He pulled her ahainst him and leaned down to kiss her lips once more.

Rosie walked from her front door, coat wrapped tightly around her. The empty basket in her hand was far too empty, but felt better as she took the time to fill it with the needed goods and paid her money. She walked back, glancing around her at all the people.

She reached her feet only thanks to Shiro. The guy that kissed her was amazing in every way. He was mysterious and she may have not known much about him but she hoped to find out sometime. she heard him speak for the first time before falling into the snow with her. At least he could speak... Even if it was only one word, she still remained speechless. Who needed words when they were happy and could communicate with out words. She brushed off the snow then flipped her attention back to the boy once more as he pulled her in for another kiss. Third time within minutes. Her heart began to race again. She lightly went on tip toes, letting her arms slithered around and locking behind his neck.

Acaia never thought this emotion would ever come for someone in the small town. She heard stories about the feeling but never had experienced it. Honestly she didn't want to... She knew if it had happened she wouldn't want to venture out of the walls. Her mind wandered hoping she could still go through with her plan. A tear shed from her as everything to her became a blur. Her dream for so long it hazed over in her mind. The man who told her stories... She was kissing his nephew. Then the thoughts of the elderly couple and their metamorphosis. The gate saddened this boy. Did he want to venture past it like her? Did it scare him? Or was he the kind that didn't even bother because of the memories. The last one she pushed aside.

Even though her mind was on what would happen the rest of her was still there with him. Her arms coiled a bit more. Sh just didn't want the moment to end.

Rosie stared at the two, hurrying past and shivering slightly. A couple... found in each other...They cannot be that much older than me. She smiled, and passed into the general store. There she purchased blankets and more firewood, which she carried back to her house. What to do now? The ground is too hard to dig, as always... She lit the additional wood and sat by the fire, pen and paper in hand. She sat and wrote for several hours, keeping warm as she did so.

Sitting there buried in the roof snow had left Menla a bit stunned. A chuckle emitted from Karasu's direction and he spoke. She turned her head to look at him with a sarcastic grin"well it's not like I planed the snow to fall from my hiding spot." A snowball from Shiro's hand smash into Karasu's neck. She burst out laughing but stopped in her tracks as Shiro threw another one at her. Luckily Karasu quickly kicked it in the air destroying Shiro's intended weapon. She let out a sigh relived at her narrow escape. Karasu walked over to her and bent down ,she stared nervously, and after his retort he stuck the snow ball in her face. O_O "....." her nose was very cold by now and as said by any Neko one thing was sure to happen when their noses get cold. Mela's ears flattened, eyes closed slightly, she opened her mouth and sneezed smashing her face into the snowball. pulling her hands up she pawed at the leftover snow on her nose and face sniffling slightly. Mela laughed hard and laughed harder at the Irony of his retort. Her ears perked mischievousness her voice grew warm and she looked up sweetly at him with her green eyes "now that was a down right low thing to do to a girl mister.." her tail wiped in his face sending him backwards in the snow. she sat on all fours looking down on him blinking and stifling a laugh.

After watching her sneeze and getting a face full of snow because of her own doing, Karasu couldn't help but laugh as well. There was something about her he found amusingly adorable. His eyes looked backed at hers and for a moment he was distracted. Her tail took him off guard as he fell back into the snow. He slowly open his eyes to see her looking down at him. Karasu gave a sleepish stare as the snowflakes descended from the sky.

The thought came to him that he has been very disconnected with the world. Until today, he became friends with this group of people. A cold flake landed on his cheek, snapping him out of his trance. Karasu blinked and then smiled at Menla before reaching up to poke her on the nose. "Then what is the right thing to do to a girl like yourself?"

Shiro deeped the kiss and pulled away and smiled " you have soft lips". He looked around and then poked her cheek and looked over at the rest of them. He didn't know exactly what to say but all he knew was that he wanted to kiss her again. He leaned back slightly and warapped his arms around her waist and held her close.

Acaia wasnt sure how all this happened but why question it? She was happy. His voice was music to her ears. "Thank you Shiro..." Acaia smiled ba back and gave a wink. "You're a good kisser." She poked him back instantly as a reaction to his single poke. She looked over at Karasu. Her smile got brighter. "Looks like our little 'Rasu has a crush." She couldnt help but giggle. It reminded her of how Shiro and her were. They just met. Instantly clicked. Soon they'd have a moment just like theirs. Her body fell into his. She was short but was tall enough to be a chin rest. She was so comfortable in his arms. He was warm and even smelled nice. She knew she wanted another kiss but didn't want to make it a habbit for them. Her body grew in height as she balanced on her tip toes to softly kiss his cheek. Her body fell back down and hugged right back. Her hands seemed to just grip the back of his winter wear like a little kid. "So... What now?" she asked softly curious on what was going to happen next for them.
