Osceli College of Written Magic

Osceli is located in the heart of the Covenant capital city of Leuviness, and is perhaps the very structure that deemed Leuviness as the city where the ruler presides. The college itself is home to many Scribes of Magic of varying ages built to hone their craft as a place of intense and great learning. It is an expansive architectural feat spanning most of the city's northern edge, and while it is not open to the public, it is hailed as a great historical sight, and is known to be one of the oldest structures in the world.

The grounds are maintained by a chosen few, and are the only non-Scribes on campus. They are generally very happy to work at Osceli as they are provided a room, three meals, and wages.

Being one of the oldest structures in the world, Osceli has its mysteries that even the professors can't explain. There are curious enchantments that go beyond modern understanding of magic, such as the indoor gardens that has its own sustaining ecosystem without sunlight, or the Hall of Stars where at night it looks as though you are walking through a star-lit sky. The enchantments appear to be harmless, though are constantly studied to locate the source.

Osceli is also rumored to house a vault of artifacts from ancient history. Not much is understood of artifacts, though history books do tell they were a method for non-Scribes to wield magic. It's been centuries since the general populace has laid eyes on an artifact, and thus the vault is only considered a rumor.

Every year Osceli comes together with their counterpart on the side of the Dominion, Ashyn College of Written Magic, for friendly sport in a magical tournament. The tournament games include Speed Inscription, Dueling, a display of skill, and a contest to attempt or present a new spell and perform it successfully. The tournament switches between campuses each year, and has consistently been one of the requests for each peace treaty signed.

The City of Leuviness
Leuviness is the capital city of the Covenant; a faction of lands that have come together under the Eastern King. It is one of the more extravagant cities in the Covenant, and houses the Royal line within Leuviness Keep. To the north presides Osceli College of Written Magic, which is perhaps the most prized structure within the city. While Scribes are powerful and revered as the only magic users in the world, the Covenant King reigns above all within the Covenant.

The city is a few miles from the northern ocean with the college being the first point of entry from the north. The eastern and southern walls open out to the outer villages with the main entrance into the city at the western gate.

Leuviness is a fortified city with multiple district and tiers with five main roads converging towards the market square. It is also home to the Jophrys Academy of Arts and Sciences, The Citadel, and the Leuviness Bank.

The War

The Covenant has been at war with the Dominion for over two years, though their history has been one of many wars before. Land disputes, grudges, altercations, and trade routes have all been catalysts for past wars that would result in peace treaties, marriages, and often come into dispute again after any royal passing.

The current war, however, began with the dispute of trade routes, particularly in regards to the city of Valtheed. Historians from the Covenant uncovered documentation that suggested the possibility that Valtheed was perhaps Covenant lands. The Dominion's dispute, despite the documentation, was that the lands belonged to the natives, and the natives were loyal to the Dominion. The debate turned heated, and eventually the Covenant attempted advance which sparked the war. Valtheed was the first city to have been claimed, and over the course of two years, it has suffered the brunt of many turf battles and passing of reign. For the past eight months, it has been under Covenant hold.

There have been numerous battles spanning through the Eastern and Western lands, though it appears the Dominion has spread further into Covenant territory and have most recently taken over the city of Bregald, forcing the presiding lord to submit or lose more than just the city. Due to the loss of the trade hub, Valtheed, Bregald is a key point for Covenant trade as it is the city to branch out to outlying territories. With Bregald cut off from the Covenant, trade from the south has become increasingly difficult. As such, aiding the southern cities has also become an unfortunate obstacle that currently makes the southern lands more susceptible to being overrun.
