If Evangelion is the deconstructor of giant robot shows Megas XLR is the DEMOLISHER!

It centers around Megas, a prototype robot stolen from an alien race and sent back in time to hopefully turn the tide for the human race in a future war that sees them on the brink of destruction.

One problem.

The robot wound up in the possession of an overweight, New Jersey gearhead named Coop who took the robot, slapped a 1973 convertible where the head was, and made it his own robot. The creators intentionally poke fun at the stereotypes of giant robot shows. Voltron, Transformers, Gundam. Not even Sailor Moon is safe.

Also, Coop is damn near a shoe in to be an Ork. Practically every episode he tends to shout 'WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!' in combat.
 
This show was so terrible...

I'm not gonna lie, I used to watch this show every week and loved every second of it.
 
I wish it had run longer. ;_;

It was so enjoyably absurd. The creators new exactly what they were doing.

I wish I could find the gattai parody scene from the episode with the Voltron/Gatchaman parody characters.

Coop forcing Megas' foot... well, you know... It was hilarious.
 
this show has only gotten better once I've learned about all the stuff it parodies. A while back I found a site that has the entire series on it, and watched the Captain Harlock Warlock episode. So silly.

My favorite clip is probably SUPER DESTRUCTOR MODE.

Something like that.
 
I only caught a few episodes here and there...but the concept of a giant robot with a car as its head was just...great.

I enjoyed it a bit too much I think.
 
THe show ruled. Nuff said.
I loved how almost every control system was turned into a video game. lol
One question always remained though: What would happen if he were to use a Gameshark, or something like that on one of his weapon game systems?

The show's themesong is currently /m/'s theme song.

And being a mechaphile myself, I appreciated the references. Loved the entire sazabi with coop clone. (dressed in red, no less)

Didn't them aliens have a ship that looked like the SDF-1?
 
Possibly...though I know that Megas had one of the SDF-1's superweapons installed. I forget which one it is though.
 
The guy singing that theme sounds an awful lot like Weird Al Yankovic
 
It used the Macross Cannon at one point, yes. I can't remember which episode it was but I'm too lazy to just open the folder and Windows Media Player to find out.
 
I wish Megas had gone back in time, shown up, and destroyed THIS movie before it was completed.
