Jackson Cardenas • The Magician Gloom

Jack thought today couldn't get any worse. Then he heard that voice from Harvey's radio speak up as he was being led up to the table. He was all too aware of the rising tensions. It was his fault, wasn't it? He broke the surface. At the circus he was pretty good at telling a bad crowd from a good one. He remembered when things got bad once mutants started to become more common.

It was hard for him to focus on what was going on at the booth, his wary gaze constantly flicking back to the crowd, seeing the phones out and recording. This wasn't good. He pulled up the hood of his sweatshirt in order to protect his identity. He didn't want to get spotted, in the odd chance that his parents were alive and looking for him. He couldn't go back there. He was too different now, they wouldn't want him anyways.

He provided what information he could. It wasn't like he had a lot of it. An expired driver's license as his proof of ID. "This is all that I have... Sorry." Briefly ashamed of his circumstances, he carried on without missing a beat. His gaze flicked back over his shoulder, seeing the horned woman facing down some armored asshole. He was scared for her. Then another woman appeared and wrecked the armor guy's shit, killing the radio guy's speaker as well.

Then a weird kid walked up to the booth, making a bet on how many people would go down when the fight really kicked off. "You shouldn't joke about this." He muttered, wondering what he could do to help if everything went to shit. He could do his little trick, though he wasn't sure how many people he could get with it at once.

He didn't know how this was going to de-escalate on it's own. Sure there was security and police presence, but they were outnumbered and out gunned. He hoped they would listen to the woman. But, people were assholes and rarely listened to reason in groups like this.

MARROW
"That mutie abberation just threatened us all with those demonic blades! So now we defend ourselves!"

This was it. This was the moment she had been waiting for. The world is watching this rally, and now they would see her take a real stand against opression. Holding up signs, shouting a slogan; those were empty gestures against what she was intending to do staring down the armored man who had heeded AJ Collode's call to arms.

His remarks he'd meant to be insulting, did not fall on her ears as such.

The time for rhetoric was over. Right now, she, Marrow, would be seen knocking this goon down to the ground and stripping him down for all the world to see.

She takes a deep breath and yells "HAIL SAT-"

But her moment is stolen from her almost in the blink of an eye. Marrow's jaw is slack for a moment seeing a hand holding her would-be opponent's fist mid-swing, then clenched as she feels a welling of rage looking at the woman who had decided to butt in on what was supposed to be a defining moment of her life.

Her jaw unclenches when the goon tries to headbutt the woman, and instead he ends up on his ass unconcious while the woman stands unfazed and even annoyed. In other circumstances, that would have been amusing to her. The burning of AJ's megaphone however does bring a smile to her face, and that allows her to tamp down her temper somewhat. That and the dog that turns out to be another mutant kinda eases a little bit of the tension in the air.

"Technically, I'm not holding any weapons. This is just me." Marrow says to the older woman in reply to her order to everyone. She doesn't relax her body just yet, but she does go for the kids at the table she had been escorting, keeping her eyes on the Pro-Accords side.

"Thanks Marrow." The rat boy says to her with a meek smile.

Marrow looks at him quick and tells him. "Thank me by telling me you'll never come around the sewers again, you hear? You've got better than that now." Then returns to eyeing the crowd.

"Right....can I still come see your shows once in a while?" Rat Boy asks.

"Welcome anytime." She answers without looking at him. "Now get in the house. Things might not be done just yet."

"You." She glances over at the guy who had come from the wrong side and kinda instigated the situation. "Let this be a lesson to you. Stick with our kind from now on, you understand?"

Charlotte Kim aka Banshee

Charlotte didn't bother to waste any more time as she pushed through the crowd, going as far as elbowing people just to get to her destination. She was nearly there when masked members of the Human Protection League blocked the sidewalk. "Move" she murmured under her breath, her voice muffled under her black mask "I need to get to the other side."
The masked figures didn't budge and just looked at her like she was some sort of idiot. This only fueled Charlotte's annoyance even more. Anger boiled deep in her system, as hot as lava. It churned within, hungry for destruction, and she knew it's too much for her to handle. The pressure of this raging sea of anger would force her to do things that could hurt everyone. But at that moment, she didn't care.
Charlotte took a step back and pulled down her mask. She was ready to scream: to let out an ear-piercing cry but a woman carrying an amplifier moved in front of the group, causing for the purple haired banshee to take a step back. She quickly put her mask on once again, her anger slowly dissipating. She almost ruined her plan! A part of her was angry at herself but it soon faded when a man with a microphone began talking.
As the man walks in, her blood wakes up her brain. She knew who the man is! It was none other than AJ Collode, the leader of the Human Protection League. His speech was enough to rile both sides and Charlotte smile grew on its own accord.
The purple haired banshee took a few steps back towards the sidelines, her chocolate brown eyes shining with delight. She can see that the seething mass of humanity jostled and shouted: baying for the mutants to kill themselves or disappear. These humans knew their enemy by sight, but not by smell or touch, or through personal conversation. They believe that the vermins needed to go. Charlotte knew nothing would pacify them other than the immediate launch of an all-out military strike or the immediate death of mutants.
Which will ensue in a few minutes later
As if fate was on her side, one of AJ's comrade stepped forwards and began taunting the satanic girl. Charlotte was so excited to see everything unfold but a blonde girl decided to ruin everything. One minute the blonde and the armored guy were fighting, the next the blonde was flying in the air, asking everyone to put their weapons down and disperse.
"As if I'm going to let that happen"
Charlotte stepped forward and pulled down her mask once again before letting out a sonic scream. It's a scream that tore through the crowd like a great shard of glass, enough to make the ears bleed. It was loud, raw, primal, shrill, and enough to stir chaos. Windows were shattered and walls started shaking. Her scream lasted for almost half a minute. Once she was done, she quickly placed her mask back on and pulled her hoodie up. She didn't dare to look around at the damage she caused. Instead, she turned around and ran towards the crowd, hoping to blend in.

Logan/Wolverine
Everything happened so fast. Before Logan knew it, the crowd was running in terror. The armed soldiers were moving forward to someone. Logan made sure to keep out of sight but also moved through the crowd, pushing and shoving to see what was happening. He was hoping no mutants were being threatened as he really didn't want t to cause a bloodbath here and now. Logan finally made it through the crowd and came upon a site he wasn't expecting. A woman was floating in the air and glowing like a star. She seemed familiar and Logan wasn't sure where he had seen her. Behind her, another girl was helping some kids move away from the scene. She had these, spikes sticking out of here. Logan took a smell of as he caught something familiar. He thought to himself on it, "Marrow?"

Before he could move forward or help in any way, he was on the ground. Logan was gripping his head and doing his best to cover his ears. An intense, piercing sound was ringing through the air. He looked around and saw everyone else getting affected by it as well. Another mutant? A meta? Tech of some kind? It seemed to be over just as fast as it started though. Logan seemed to be the first to recover from the sound but having super fast healing does help. He looked around the crowd and began to sniff the air. His eyes went wide. He keeps looking and looking. Finally, he saw someone moving through the crowd as fast as possible. Like they were running from something. Logan began to run, making a dart through an opening to cut the person off. Pushing some people out the way, he was able to grab a hold of the person who was running. He pulled down their hood and looked the girl straight into the eyes. His smell was right.

"Charlotte. What the hell are you doing?!"

Jenna Wynguarde aka Mirage

Jenna saw the images when Carol touched her, powerful images, iconic heartbreaking images of battle, of the ugly purple skinned alien that could be none other than Thanos, bringer of death. Images of Avengers and their allies fighting the minions of Thanos. She felt for those brief moments what Carol had felt. The moments stuck so prominently in the other woman's mind.

Then time began to move again. Carol was moving, for someone who could fly through space the small space between herself and the black armored man was very small. In moments he was disabled. Nearby, among the rainbow colored students she felt something … yes… something get very excited only to be convinced to calm again. By the desk, a fierce girl was briefly ready to make her stand. A very tall man next to her, while a bit less dramatic and more calm, was also ready to stand. Not far from the black suited people … was the girl with the purple hair. There was still a small telepathic connection. Something bad was coming.

It wasn't danger sense, Jenna could sense it was coming, she dropped to her knees as the sound started, hands wrapped hard around her ears. It didn't seem to help as much as it did. Something in her mind kicked in and simply turned off listening for a few moments. It also didn't help her ears cope with the long intense noise. She reached out immediately after the noise stopped to "Carol" telepathically.

"{ telepathic with Carol Danvers } Purple hair girl, her name is Charlotte, she is angry, in pain from some loss, I cannot take too much telepathic contact with her. Her mind is too intense right now. I could try something else, but there is a lot of risk if her mind is already off balance". [ The nature of the telepathic contact is an image of Jenna simply standing in Carol's mind-scape. As Jenna's image retreats, any time Carol looks for the purple hair girl, in Carols mind, that girl glows with a soft purple glow. ] " I trust you Carol, you were there, you fought for us, the people of Earth, alongside the Avengers. "

This mental contact which seemed to have taken several moments, in fact was over in less than a second. In fact, as Jenna stood up, her balance was off, her normal hearing was just a buzz instead of normal noise. She walked in a gradually steadying gate towards the table to stand next to Marrow and the tall man. Both certainly gave out a protective vibe. The girl with the bones seemed proud, but protective and fierce. The tall man, who was hiding his true nature, was also very protective. He stood a full 15 inches taller than Jenna and weighed at least twice as much as she did. His name was James and hers was Sarah.

" Hello James, and Sarah. I don't have a lot to offer, but I will help, my name is Jenna "

She looked first at Marrow, then at the tall man. Her voice seemed muffled to her as her hearing still struggled to achieve normal, but at least she was starting to hear something.. She took a ready stance with her 5'2" frame, wanting to seem physically as if she was ready to take on the world. … In her own way.

GM POST
"Someone once said… when the darkness comes, keep an eye on the light - whatever that is for you - no matter how far away it seems. Never really thought much about that little quote, still not sure why it sticks in my mind. But at this moment, I remembered it clearly. This was to be a turning point. And it was always meant to be. Everything had gone precisely how it should have. Everything was beginning to come together. Today was the omen of humanity's end… and no one saw it coming…"

AJ stares in disbelief as Carol stops the man in midstride, and he narrows his eyes at her. He is wearing an earpiece, discretely, and he hears in his ear a voice. 'Danvers', the only word. A pause as his speaker explodes when he was in midsentence, his eyes now widening as he kind of stumbles off of his spot. "Everyone make sure you got that! She just attacked us! We'll sue her for everything she has!" His crowd, his followers, all cheer as they continue recording on their phones.

He then takes a step back, handing off the mic to one of his assistants. And in his ear he gets a little briefing about Carol… and Sarah… and Miriam… and Jack. AJ now raises his own cell phone as Carol commands the crowd to disperse… Miriam backs her up, and he makes sure to get video of it all. "We know who you are, demons!" AJ yells out towards them.

The sounds of sirens now begin to fill the air, and AJ and his group seem to not know what to do for a moment. But all of this has been planned out. They know what to do. Continue to record, obey the commands of law enforcement, make it seem like the abberations are the bad ones here. Because for most in this crowd, they are exactly that.

Police in riot gear now begin to move towards the crowd, riot batons raised. The workers of Arcadia House now start to move from their information booth. They all wear light blue shirts, all matching shirts, with the SLU logo on the front. One of them motions to Jack. "Come inside for now, okay? We'll get everything sorted. You'll be safe there." As they retreat into the building, the crowd does indeed start to disperse. But more in a scrambling/frantic action. And it seems like that might have been it… until that sonic scream strikes through the air. With Charlotte's action, most people are dropped to their knees, most all of them grasping their ears as they cry out. Most of the police end up dropping their batons as they are assaulted.

Now things have escalated to a very bad level. To say the least.

But that's not the end of it.

As Charlotte moves to the crowd to keep herself hidden… something odd happens. Save for 2, every single cell phone for a 3 block radius simply shut down. The screens just go black. Everyone's phones restart… but not in the same state they were before. When their phones switch back on, everyone will notice that anything new added in the last 12 hours is just… gone. That means videos, pictures, even apps that were recently installed. If it happened in the last 12 hours, it's as if the phone didn't know it.

As he sits on his knees, AJ shakes his phone angrily, his teeth gritting. "Someone tell me you have the video still! What the hell happened?! Did one of those muties hack our phones?!"

This happens with all phones in the area… save for the phones owned by James Proudstar and Malusi are uneffected. But something additional does happen… on James' and Malusi's phones there is a new text message. The number texted from is '200108'. The message reads 'your allies are right in front of you. Carpe diem.' Now James only gets a second text from another mysterious number… '196305'. 'bring Red Sox fan to see me. Better to convince her, not force, believe it. Meet at grandfather's place, where we met once. -F'

Capt. Carol 'Avenger' Danvers
As she hangs in the air, her chin is up a little as she looks down at everyone. She looks in Miriam's general direction, hearing someone back up her words. She can't quite make out who it is, though. Her fists begin to glow brighter as she looks in AJ's direction, hearing his distinct voice. He's just going to keep pushing things until they're all lead right off the cliff, isn't he?

Carol makes note of the man that comes to quickly check on the armored goon that tried to take her on, and the ensuing medics. She only notices James because he's so friggin huge. Not exactly Banner like, but not bad. But her focus returns to AJ and his group as they all now have their phones raised towards her. She doesn't try to hide herself, or her intentions. And maybe she had intended some course of action… but Charlotte puts a damper on that super quickly.

She lets out a loud pained gasp as her head feels like it's suddenly going to explode. The glowing shimmer of her form dissipates and she drops to the ground. She lands hard on one knee, the pavement under that knee cracking just a little. Her upper body is doubled over, her hands covering her ears as best she can. Her teeth grit, and then she lets out a brief and loud "AAH!" She feels her senses being overloaded by Charlotte's attack upon the crowd, to which she is as vulnerable to as they are. But when that particular torture comes to a merciful end, she lets out another gasp of air and her hands plant themselves on the pavement. Her eyes are closed tight, and she feels faint dribbles of blue blood from her ears.

A sharp breath is drawn in as she rears up, the chaos just getting worse and worse around her. She still hears a buzzing sound, people around her are disoriented, some crying, leaning on one another. She feels disoriented still, but also feels the need to act. To help. So she shoves herself to her feet in a bold gesture… and then stumbles a few steps to the side and falls on her face with a grunt. "Ow" she utters as she pushes herself to her hands and knees. And in her mind, an image… that girl from earlier that was having problems. A telepathic message? Is there anyone in this crowd that doesn't have some kind of power? Carol slowly pushes herself to her feet once more, scanning the chaotic crowd. She looks in Charlotte's general direction, and she is barely able to pick her out of the crowd, thanks to Jenna's flag. In her mind, Carol calls out. She is rather used to communicating through telepathy… she has had lots of practice with it, so her voice would be strong and clear in her mind. 'Thanks, kid. Get safe.' Okay that didn't come out quite the way she wanted it to, but Jenna would get the point.

Now Carol starts through the crowd, having to push her way through it. It's still chaos… and the police are starting to get it together. One of the officers' voice calls through his car's loudspeaker 'Disperse peacefully or you WILL be placed under arrest! Disperse peacefully! This area is now under martial law!'

Carol just glances in the direction the loud voice is coming from… still hearing a faint buzz in her ears, though it's clearing up really quickly. Without hurting people, she can't get to Charlotte quickly. And if she flares up again, it might add to the chaos.

She should have stayed at home and finished that box of cereal.

"What's going on?"

Miriam looks back and down. Jerry stands there with a plate of nachos in one hand, for her as it's loaded down with jalapenos, and a half-eaten footlong hot dog in the other smothered in ketchup and mustard. He's looking around at the people that are slowly dispersing until he spots the glowing woman; then his eyes are fixed and jaw slack.

"Things almost went all Charleston, but Star Queen over there put on the brakes." She comes down and takes the nachos from Jerry before he drops them.

"Star Queen eh?" Jerry asks still transfixed.

"My name for her. She didn't introduce herself.....or anything...just came in...took control of the situation." Miriam explains between chips heavy with cheese and jalapenos.

"I uh didn't know what was kosher so I guessed." Jerry explains.

"I only eat kosher around Aunty." Miriam is about to have another delicious bite when things escalate again. The sound wave is directed at the other side, but it still causes her to cover her pained ears same as Jerry, both dropping their food in the process. She looks around and people are also covering their ears, most running away on scared ape instinct. Which is a good idea.

"We gotta bail!" Miriam yells at Jerry.

"What?!" Jerry points at his ears "I can't hear shit!"

"Hold.On." Miriam wraps her left arm around Jerry's right. Miriam can't quite fly, but what she can do is create a space of zero gravity underneath herself and push it into the ground so suddenly that it launches her and whatever she's holding(in this case Jerry) into the air.

Jerry screams as they are launched in the air and over the crowd. On their descent Miriam looks down and creates a zone of zero under them to cushion their fall in a space cleared by people who saw them coming and got out of the way. They had cleared most of the crowd that had descended into chaos and landed in the nearby parking lot where people are scrambling for their vehicles. The group of students in Rainbow Spidey costumes runs by them, looking kinda more freaked out than the rest.

"Think I'm gonna hurl..." Jerry wobbles over to the nearest trash can and starts dry heaving. Miriam notices that people are looking at their cellphones very confused as well. She takes her Blackberry out of her pocket, and the ancient thing is in the final stages of powering back on after restarting.

"What the hell?" Miriam checks her messages. The texts she had gotten from her Aunty Kate maybe half hour before getting here were gone. Then her phone vibrates with a call from said Aunt. "Ah great, she's freaking out." Miriam groans but answers.

"Miriam! Are you okay?! I was watching the news and it looks like a riot broke out!"

"I'm fine Aunty, totally fine it's not as bad as you think, honestly." Miriam says trying to calm her down.

"Not as bad?! The news even lost their feed! They don't even know what's going on on any channel I checked!"

"Look Aunty, some shit-"

"Language!"

"Sorry! Some stuff went down, people freaking out, but I'm fine, Jerry is also fine. No guns going off, no beatings, nothin'" Miriam explains, though is unsure if the 'no beatings' part is true.

"Alright alright now you and Jerry get outta there, get to your hotel, then you call me right away."

"Will do Aunty." Miriam promises and ends the call. Looking over at Jerry, the large man is just wiping his mouth.

"What the hell just happened?" He asks walking back to her.

"No clue Jerry." Miriam shrugs. "Let's get to the hotel, this trip is a bust."

"Goddammit." Jerry adjust his hat. "If it weren't such a madhouse I'd tell ya to go give Star Queen our card."

Miriam looks back at the scene they had just left, and thinks about running back to throw a card at Star Queen, but the cop car warning everyone to leave or be arrested stops her even when her common sense is overridden.

"Yeah, that's not happenin Jerry." She groans and reaches for his arm again.

"Hey hey now, not again. We can walk from here." Jerry backs up from her.

"Alright, suit yourself." Miriam shrugs and the two start walking in the direction of their hotel a few blocks away.

SHEPARD

Everything was happening so fast for Malusi. The operative even with his trained eyes and years of experience could not keep track of every person and detail. One minute he and Network were watching the glowing woman and those around her when it happed. A sudden and powered scream broke the air. Even inside the van both of them fell to the floor, grasping their ears and cried like the damned as the vehicle's front windows shattered. All of his senses were spiked in pain Shepard struggled to get up but dropped down again.

Finally what felt like an eternity of torment stopped. Head ringing and nose bleeding Shepard turned toward the young Network whose ears was bloodied and her face displayed sheer fear. His heart sank at the sight. Sarah Vale was still so young despite her powers. The secret Wakandan helped her in a chair, and with a sympathetic nod to let Network know she can rest.

Looking back at the screens Shepard watched mayhem unleashed through streets. Suddenly the monitors went offline and immediately he realized it was no coincidence.

As if on cue Shepard felt his cellphone vibrate in the left pocket. Taking it out the operative read the number and the text message and one thought came to mind. Fury... Without a doubt, in his mind Shepard believed its from the head of SHIELD. Beside his superiors back in the homeland, only Nicholas Fury knew of his true identity.

The war dog couldn't help but chuckle, remembering the first time meeting the infamous Director and the arrangement they came to. As for the message itself Shepard squeezes his fists with determination despite shaking all over from the earlier supersonic scream.

I'm no avenger nor have any special powers but yes we must seize the day.

Without looking at Network's direction, he ordered. "Stay here and keep out of sight Vale." Subsequently he messaged his agents. "Thunderbird get to Miss Glow before others do. Everyone else handle crowd control and treat the injured if possible. Do not engage the authorities, I repeat do not engage them."

Done, Shepard exited from the van and closed it behind him. All over many people whether pro accords or against were fleeing in terror. In that regard they weren't so different. Seeing a fallen officer who looked like a rookie Shepard took his hand and lifted him up. Nodding with gratitude, the cop said.

"Appreciate it sir but ya need to leave."

Raising both arms in acknowledgment Shepard ran as if complying using the panicked crowd as cover. Instead he navigated the street. His real destination was for the Acadia House, specifically for Jackson, Marrow and the shapeshifter. As soon as Shepard reached them within moments he showed the SLU emblem to Marrow with one hand before addressing her and the other two with clear authority.

"If any of you give a damn, help us get people off this street or leave now. Whatever your choice do it fast I'm not waiting all day."

The shriek, that god damn sound. It was debilitating and burned its way into his ears. He hadn't known it but he had fallen. From his feet to the floor in less than a second. Opening his eyes Ray hadn't heard the screaming, the yelling or the growing commotion. Slowly pushing himself to his knees Ray sat back and held his head with one hand while the other tried steady himself. If he said anything he couldn't remember or hear himself speak and tried to take to his feet only to fall onto his hands and knees "Holy hell. She would make a great singer" He said sarcastically to himself and finally got the strength to get on his feet and stay there.

Rays eyes quickly identified the groups that had been protesting were now a mingled mess in panic. Police were trying to bring order to the panic and the loudspeaker wasn't making his headache go away any sooner. He had made a mistake. Ya he shifted from his Shepard form but the hearing he liked to keep, and he had not expected to be bombarded by a screamer. Having improved hearing that way was a very painful lesson.

Sighing Ray turned and spotted the two special people like him at the desk. He had not intentionally moved but his instincts made him keep them behind him. He had expected an attack. But there was only one man. He was confused really. Just one? They have an entire group but one tries?

Getting in a stance he had prepared to change into a multitude of possible forms but hesitated. Instead the man had asked them for help. Honestly he didn't recognize the badge bit it was his words that mattered "Well....can't be worse than a scream fest like this" Looking back at those by the desk Ray stepped forward "I will help get them out" Walking past him Ray smelt the man "If you do leave i will just follow the scent" Ray then started running

He had helped those who had fallen and even when the Police asked him to leave he made an effort to look like he left then shifted to a new face
"Come on! We need to go lets move!" As he helped a man up he smelt the air and looked at the mans pants "Its alright, just get running. Nobody knows you pissed yourself if you keep running" As the man heard him he was sprinting faster than those next to him. Removing the slightly surprised look from his face Ray kept trying to help keeping the same pattern of shifting and guiding people.

Thunderbird

James again became watchful, trying to spot people in the large and diverse crowd. People had started to disperse to a degree in a relatively peaceful if a bit quickly. Sadly, this didn't take long to spoil. Someone near the front of his side of the crowd, with purple hair lowered her hoodie and let out a scream from hell. Now one of the gifts James has is enhanced reaction time. His hands clamped quickly over his ears as the sound was going off. He would have liked it if this action had helped more. As was said before, it was a hell of a noise. Luckily it was mostly pointed the other way. James went down to one knee, his jaw resting on his knee and his eyes closed. There was a lot of pain in his ears despite and functionally his hearing was out of whack to say the least. Something less than a minute later James slowly stood. He was dizzy, inner ear issues. As it turns out he was a very quick healer. He couldn't compare in that category to Logan or Sarah, but did heal fast.

A rather short teenager made her way through the crowd to the desk and stood between himself and the bone girl. Introducing herself to { James and Sarah}, calling herself Jenna. It did take him a moment to figure out he hadn't given her his name. Mental powers perhaps.

" Hello Jenna, Hello Sarah"

He noticed the messages on his phone. Uncle Nick…. Great, he thought to himself. Then, he spotted Shepard heading his way, proverbial steam rising from his boss. Uh Oh… Shepard issued orders and rather snapped at the young people gathered around the desk.

"Respectfully Boss, these are the ones on our side.! "

With that, he had his marching orders, he turned and moved with the crowd, or at an angle to the direction they seemed to be taking towards Red Sox fan Girl. For a bit, he was at a loss as to what exactly to tell her. Since she wasn't exactly moving directly away from him, he was able to use the angle of his movement, his natural speed and agility to move through the retreating crowd very efficiently. Now closer to her, and with a distinct lack of glowing now, he was able to make her out much easier. She was tall, confident, sunglasses not much different from his own. She was pretty in a military woman kind of way. He approached her, his body language one of peaceful intentions.

"Excuse me ma'am. My name is James. I work with the people who run Arcadia House. Could I talk privately with you for a moment? It's very important. "

As discussed elsewhere, he is tall, over 6'5" with his military style boots on. His long hair done up in native American style braids. There is no facial hair. He is wearing jeans, an Arizona Diamondbacks baseball cap with the symbol colored red, white and blue. A western style shirt, a jean jacket with a Captain America shield with the words { Molon Labe } underneath the shield. On one shoulder a patch with a stylized Thunderbird, on the other shoulder another patch…179687

Very subtly he took in her scent while he waited for her reply.

The noise of the crowd assembled on both sides of the cause had been a dull roar for the most part, which was tolerable to the symbiote in trade for the food the situation afforded. It had then gotten rather quiet when the woman had taken control of the situation, and Verona was resigned to the feast ending as Andy calms down.

"Let's pack it in!" the Professor leading the group says to the students. The signs are lowered, Andy takes off the mask along with the others and thinks to make a phone call to her parents, to let them know she was okay.

Andy could not even reach for her phone before that shriek threw the calm into disarray, and them in particular from serene to throwing a shitfit.

"SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE-AAAAAH!" Andy and Verona scream in reply to the shriek while falling to the ground. The costume is shredded as Verona loses control of itself and becomes a black writhing mass that appears to be between liquid and solid; at it's center a head with large white eyes, and a gaping mouth.

The NYU Rainbow Group and others run in terror from this entity that has suddenly appeared among them.

MUST ESCAPE!

The black mass leaps away and clings to the nearest building; terrifying the people who see it through the window. It crawls up the wall to the rooftop and there, seems to disappear at least to the naked eye.

What was that?!

Do not know. Only know it hurt us.

We're okay now.

Yes we are. For now.

Right. We need to get to the hotel. If they don't see us, they will panic again.

Now invisible to the naked eye, they leap from rooftop, to building side and down into an empty alley where they become visible. They are still black and white, with a large white spider across the chest and back, but now they are calm and so are sleek, smooth.

"Rainbow." Andy says and the symbiote replicates the rainbow Spiderman costume that had been shredded, mask included.

"Glad they said we could keep it anyway. Less questions."

Her phone rings within Verona, and the symbiote uses a trick Andy taught her to answer it then bring the sound to her ears.

"Ms. Barton! Are you okay? We lost you when that...that thing came out of nowhere."

We have a name...

"Yes Professor, I'm totally fine just...shook up is all."

"Oh good. Now where are you? We can come pick you up."

"Let me find that out and I will text you."

"Good plan! See you soon!"

Andy steps out of the alley to get her bearings and texts them to the Professor. Some people on the street gawk at her costume, one snickers, but her mind is elsewhere. How they had come her with good intentions, and someone had caused them to make matters possibly worse than before.

Really wish Pete wasn't on radio silence wherever he is right now.

Yes he always makes us feel better.

Always. Don't know what we'd do without him.

May we never know.

Jackson Cardenas • The Magician Gloom

Jack looked at Marrow with a frown on his face when she spoke to him. His anxiety was starting to amp up, and he was not in the right headspace to deal with anyone else lecturing about where he should stand today. He didn't say a word, looking down and away from the woman. He quietly followed the workers up to the Arcadia House, ready to just leave all of this behind him.

Then the scream from hell happened.

Jack had dropped to the ground before he could even process it. Everyone was panicking now. This couldn't be entirely his fault. It wasn't his fault. It wasn't his fault! He felt something dribbling inside his ears, and he shakily brought a hand up to see what the hell it was. He grimaced when he saw the blood on the tips of his fingers. The amount wasn't too concerning, he'd dealt with worse, but the fact that both of his ears were actually ringing and bleeding had him worried. Eventually the ringing subsided, and he had half the mind to pick himself up and adjust his rose colored sunglasses.

There was a guy, some kind of badge... And if Jack didn't help him get people out of here, then he'd have to leave. The twenty-something sincerely wished he'd had a couple backup plans for today, but his information had been limited to the radio and this Arcadia House was the safest place for him to go. "I'll try to help as best as I can..." He spoke quietly, kneeling down again as he rested his hand over a crack in the sidewalk.

Darkness leeched out from his hand as his eyes glowed red. It raced along the cracks of the sidewalk, almost imperceptible, underfoot of many. Destinations came into sight for those that fell into his illusions, aiding to calm them and hurry them up as they had a safe target to flee to. He grit his teeth at the headache that was slowly forming as more and more people fell in contact with his dark tendrils. "Just be calm and get gone..." He muttered, trying to channel as much of his focus as he could into clearing out the crowd.

The kid doesn't look like he appreciates her advice but Sarah just huffs when he walks away, and has a mind to take off now that her moment of triumph was gone, and Miss Shiny and her sidekick had the situation under control.

That shriek comes out on her third step doing just that and stops her dead as her inner ear bones rattle. Were it not for her rapid healing, she might have been bleeding from the ears as a result and lost some of her hearing as well. Almost on instinct however, those bones thicken in response to the sound and she is one of the few who don't have diminished hearing. She doesn't even really clasp her hands over her ears, only makes a motion like she was about to.

"What in the hell was that?!" Marrow looks around, trying to pinpoint any kind of origin to that sonic attack. The only thing that really stands out to her in all this chaos, is the black mass of something that sends the group of Rainbow Spiders running away in terror. She thinks to chase whatever it is as her eyes follow it to the nearest building, but then two people approach her and the shapeshifter. A young girl who introduces herself as Jenna, and an older African man who flashes a badge at her. If he had been a run of the mill cop, Marrow would have flipped him off and oinked at him. But he was with the SLU if the badge was legit, the people really trying to help people like her.

"Help? Sure I'll try…" Marrow looks around for anyone in need of help that the shapeshifter isn't helping. On the Anti-Accords side of course. She was helpful, not a saint. But try as she might, when people see her approach them, they recoil in fear and just run faster.

After the fourth time someone yells "Demon!" Marrow huffs and groans.

"Screw this….these people don't need my help anyway." She says looking back at the Acadia House, where those kids she had been helping were hopefully on their way to a better life under their care. While she wants to think that's what really matters out of this day: that those kids were safe, she still thinks of how her other want of the day had been stolen. She was going to be a hero of the day who not only helped kids in need, but also stuck it to the bigots who would have victimized those kids as well for all the world to see.

Instead the world had seen (to the best of her knowledge at least as she was unaware that all electronic record of the incident had been wiped) that it was someone else. A woman, yeah, but not her. Someone who just swooped into the moment.

Marrow takes her bus ticket out of her pocket. The next bus back to New York wasn't for a few hours, and she had only a twenty to her name.

"Guess I'll have to make a Big Mac last." Marrow says to herself while walking away from the area in search of the nearest fast food joint. While growing her horns and knuckles didn't take a lot of calories, she would still need a top-off soon or else she'd probably pass out on the bus if she made it at all.

Charlotte Kim aka Banshee

As Charlotte ran away, she suddenly realized that her heels are no good for her. She wanted to kick them off as her heart beat faster and the adrenaline demanded her to run without delay. But unless she got her shoes off, she can't. But there's no way in hell am I ditching these godforsaken shoes. She wished to the gods that they were sensible but her heels were six inches high. Just then her feet slipped and she almost tumbled over but a harsh firm hand on her arm prevented her from falling.

"Charlotte. What the hell are you doing?!"

Although the adrenaline still flooded her system like it's on an intravenous drip - right into her blood at full pelt, the gruff voice made her feel like a little girl being scolded. She felt like her heart will explode while her eyes were wide open, her chocolate brown eyes staring at the familiar figure. Her body still wanted to either run fast to escape or open her mouth again to scream but instead, she just stayed right where she was.

Calm down, Charlotte she reminded herself Its just Logan. He's my friend. He'll understand

The two of them met way before everything became fucked up. They met at a bar where Charlotte was working and where Logan was drinking. The said girl was bored and decided to seduce him. Turns out Logan doesn't easily fall for her charms then one thing led to another: they discovered they're both mutants and smashed the bar into smithereens due to their little fight. After seeing the mess they made, they laughed hysterically and became friends ever since.

"Logan..." she started, trying to catch her breath "...I... I-, Agh!"

Suddenly, she felt immense pressure in her head, as if something or someone was trying to pick at her brain. It was for a short moment and yet, she felt like she was naked. Like all her secrets came into view. Immediately, rage built inside her like deep water currents.

What she hated most was an invasion of privacy. Why do people need to probe her? Sure she's a mess but the people around her was the one to blame for it. In her perspective, she did everything right in her own way - everything -and still her life became a goddamn mess. Everything she had was what she made and Thanos, along with the so-called heroes, squander it like ill-raised children. That's where her anger comes, unleashed without thought of consequence. She felt like every one of them took what she made without even a backward glance. She was expecting sorrow, apologies, regret, repentance when she wept and voiced her loss... none comes. Apparently, it made her feel like she had no right to the negative emotions they tout with pride on a daily basis.

That what made Charlotte snap. That's why she's creating so much chaos.

Trying to calm herself down, Charlotte blinked her eyes and swallowed hard. The probing feeling was gone now but she still felt anger bubbling inside her. She then took a step back from Logan and growled. "It's one of your allies, isn't it? You told them to probe into my mind didn't you?!"

"Fuck"
she cursed under her breath before she started pacing, worry etched on her features. She cannot get caught. Not now nor ever. With newfound desperation in her eyes, she looked at Logan once again.

"You have to help me, Logan. I cannot get caught. You have to distract them for me. Can you do that? for an old friend?"

Logan/Wolverine

Logan stares at the girl in front of him. She looked so, scared. Like her life was being threatened but, she did just do a sonic shriek in the middle of a crowd so it would make some sense. When she mentioned something about, distracting them, while she would be able to get away, Logan's head began to scan the crowd to see who might be heading towards them. Sure enough, though, his eyes fell upon someone. The women who was floating and standing between the protestors. He forgot her name at that moment but knew she would be a problem if it came to a fight. She was heading this way and seemed to have her eyes on Banshee. Did she know that she did the screech?

Not really thinking too much on it, Logan grabbed Banshee by the shoulders, "Get out of here. I'll stall as long as I can. Don't do anything stupid like you already have." He gave her a bit of a push and turned his back to her, his focus now on the very strong alien women approaching them. He had heard some stories about this woman and what she could do. If it came to a fight, Logan wasn't really sure he could win but he would at least give Banshee the chance to escape. He stood his ground and waited. Hoping something would make her attention go elsewhere so he could slip away as well. Didn't seem likely but ya never know.

A collab with Not Amy between Marrow & Mirage

Jenna Wyngarde aka Mirage

Jenna watched the SLU man with the badge come to the table and proclaim himself.. rather demanding help. The tall man quietly acknowledges him, so Jenna reaches out for surface thoughts. He seems a good man, he's been through battles too. Recent thoughts of the great battle at the Avengers headquarters with an army of similar men and women from Africa. This puts Jenna at ease with him as the tall man goes bounding off.

She watches the shapeshifter walk off, his mind is both organized and convoluted. Rather makes Jenna's brief reach out to him very brief indeed.

Then she watches the horned girl Marrow walk off. This mind is easier to deal with. She seems disappointed. Jenna follows her. When people yell at Marrow, Jenna makes sure they don't stay long. Jenna indeed is following the other girl.

" Excuse me Sarah, can I talk to you for a moment?"

As a reminder, Jenna is wearing a pink top, black jeans & hiking boots. Jeans and top still have tags from wall Mar. There is a Scooby Do backpack.

"Huh?" Marrow turns around and is surprised to see the kid, Jenna behind her.

"Not really in a talking mood...but whatever." Marrow rounds on the girl and shrugs.

"What's up, kid?"

Jenna smiles.

"Sorry to bug you and all. But I wanted to ask you to stay, at least for the night. I think they intend to feed people. I think you want to be a hero Sarah. You stood up for those other kids!"

As she is standing there talking to Marrow, someone approaches... briefly until Jenna just looks at him. He turns around and heads away.

Stay the night?" Marrow asks incredulously but also appreciates the recognition for protecting the kids. "Look, maybe I would, but unless whoever is doing he feeding is also offering free rides all the way to New York, I gotta pass.
She takes out the bus ticket and the twenty dollar bill.

"These here? All I got on me to get home otherwise."

Jenna continues to look at people and hurry them along mentally as she talks with Sarah.

"We can ask badge guy or James. James is protective like you. I am certain one of them will help. I am going to have to stop helping people move along Sarah. I don't feel so good. I haven't used my power so much, like... Ever. "

Indeed, Jenna looked ... Off somehow. Her body's energy reserves dangerously low. Sarah has likely seen people with low blood sugars before. Worse, Jenna was suffering side effects from not taking the regular mind-numbing medication that she usually did at the facility she escaped from.

"Hey, kid, you feeling alright?" Sarah asks approaching Jenna, recognizing the signs of very low blood sugar from her life on the street. Right about Jenna's age actually.

"Okay ya sold me." Sarah picks up Jenna and holds her bridal style before the girl collapses. She looks annoyed, somewhat, but just as she doesn't voice any displeasure, she doesn't voice how this does feel nice; helping a fellow mutant or homeless always made her feel good.

"Alright where's badge guy...." Sarah starts walking, looking around for said badge man...

Jenna maintained consciousness as Sarah carried her. Now only using a trickle of power to keep track of the man called Shepard. She knew he had other names, secrets. Those were his to keep though.

"That way Sarah!" Jenna said softly, managing to point at Shepard. Maybe a nap? She asked herself. No, no, no was the answer she gave herself, not till we find Shepard and get Sarah taken care of. Her body disagreed and would have its argument won, eventually. For now, a queasy & somewhat dizzy Jenna kept pointing.

The crowd as a whole starts to recover, but there is still chaos. Many of the pro-Accords group are able to slip away during all of this. But not all of them. AJ stands proudly amongst the chaos, a few of his assistants next to him looking very nervous. AJ's eyes scan the crowd, trying to spot anyone with obvious 'deviations' from what is normal. From what is 'natural', 'God-given'. He then points out some people as he leans towards his assistants, and they look towards those people also.

The police now have begun to make a perimeter, and over the loudspeaker of one of their cars..

'This is the Fairfield police! Exit the area in a calm, orderly manner! You WILL be arrested if you do not clear the area immediately! We are authorized to use force!'

This gets the attention of many people, and many of those people heed the warning. But unfortunately not everyone. There are still people lingering, the adrenaline keeping them there waiting for something good/bad to happen. The police start to move amongst the crowd, directing them away from the area. 2 police officers move closer to the Arcadia House entrance, making sure no one gets to it. AJ, for his part, heeds the police's warnings. He leans to his assistants and tells them they have to leave now. They don't want to break the law, after all.

And then.. the final nail in the coffin of this beginning is driven home.

There is a 'POP' sound from somewhere in the crowd, the police as one all reach for their holstered tasers. But they don't draw. NOW people are scrambling away, screaming. Some think it was just a firecracker or something. Unfortunately, it isn't. A young man pushes himself through the crowd… holding a gun over his head. His skin is a light green color, his eyes as dark as night. The police start to converge on him. And one of the officers calls in for an EMT team. Screams are heard… and those near AJ just try to get out of there.

AJ stumbles back amongst the crowd, looking down as he holds his stomach. His hands and clothes drenched with his blood. The young shooter (he doesn't look like he's even 18 yet) draws his gun towards AJ to take another shot. But he is tackled from behind by one of the police officers. On the way to the ground, he hammers the mutant child over and over with his security baton. AJ falls to his knees, and then doubles over. The medical team now tries to get to him, and the mutant gun-man is beat almost to the point of losing consciousness.

As AJ is falling to the ground… as the gun-man is taken down forcefully… the world seems to slow down for almost a dozen of those in attendance. Even those that have gotten some distance. It almost feels like their very conscience is pulled out of their bodies for a split second. And then… the voice. A voice touching all of their minds. A gentle, soothing tone. A tone with an edge of desperation and of sorrow.

And no matter what kind of telepathic defenses each person might have… this voice pushes past those defenses with almost frightening ease.

~Evil resides everywhere we look. Even in those that think they are doing the right thing. That young man attacking with a gun… he thinks himself justified in murder. These sentiments exist everywhere… and such thoughts must be stood against. The Avengers, as we knew them, are gone. Now another group must step into the circle of light, standing against the encroaching evil of this world. And other worlds. Symbols of justice, symbols of what is best for your fellow man.

Jenna… Logan… Charlotte… Sarah… Jackson… Andromeda… James… Ray… Miriam.. Carol… you are the keys to the future. Even if you do not believe it. I beg you, meet one another at the hotel. A suite on the top floor has been set aside for you all to use.~

In their minds they would 'see' the hotel… a room number… and then suddenly have an instinctive sense of how to navigate to that hotel. How they get there, well that's up to them. Keeping in mind the area is still pretty hot, and people are worked up now.

Everyone would have heard the message… but now another message is heard in just 1 of their minds. A soft, whispering echo.

~You are the key~

Only Malusi would have heard that…

Captain Carol 'Avenger' Danvers
Thunderbird approaches her.. and she half expects him to try something dumb. He stops before her, his intent is Carol, obviously. With a little scowl she stares up… waaay up… at him. Her eyes narrow a moment when he says he has to speak to her. And that its important. "Hey James" She says simply at first. She discretely looks him up and down.

Not bad.

Once more Carol glances in the direction Charlotte is running, and then back to James she looks as she speaks with a little smile.

"I'm really sure it's important. But listen, hunkahunk, I got something to take care of. You work here, so I know where to find you for the important thing."
Yep, she's pretty much blowing him off for the moment. He's a very handsome man… and Carol is Carol so she notices that. But she has another mission at the moment. Her gaze lingers on him as she now turns, tugging down a little on the rim of her Red Sox cap.

She would have to give the cops credit, they're doing their best to get the situation under control. But she knows this is way to beyond the point of being controlled. But she feels she can at least deal with the gal that Jenna points out to her. But then again… is she so sure the one she's tracking is the one with the ear-splitting attack is the actual perp? Well, only one way to find out!

As she makes her way towards Charlotte, the younger girl stops to talk to someone. Short gnarly lookin fella. An accomplice? Pal? Logan starts to turn towards Carol, locking eyes with her. Carol absently reaches up and brushes her fingers against her right ear, wiping some of the lingering blue blood from it. Her eyes stare into his, and she recognizes that look. He's not going to politely step out of a girl's way like a gentleman. No, he wants to deck it out. Which is very fine with her. Who could possibly take a punch from Carol? Maybe hunkahunk… but surely not the angry looking little fella that decides to block her path.

But we may never know, because yet another obstacle makes itself known.

"Stop right there! Hands behind your head!"

Carol stops and looks over her shoulder… at 3 police officer aiming their tasers at her. One of her eyebrows perk up as she realizes what's happening.
There is chaos around them… and some would argue she's the one that instigated it. With her flashy little show… the way the man crumbled before her… blowing up the amplifier… the police can't say for sure exactly where this whole powder keg started going sideways, but Carol would be a good place to start.

Now you may say to yourself… Carol certainly didn't start it! Being able to look back and analyze a situation is great and all, but these cops don't have that luxury. They can only react to what they see in that split second. Part of the reason they never get as much credit as they deserve. They are serving the peace, but can't always see every part of every situation.

"Listen guys…" Carol has stopped, of course, her hands out at her sides a little. She glances to Logan with a scowl, and then turns her attentions to the cops. She turns slooowly to face them as she continues. "I'm not" she is interrupted as one of the cops screams, edging closer as he aims his taser at her. "Hands behind your head right now! Right now!" another of the officers yells at almost the same time "On your knees! Get down!" Carol looks between them… and then she sighs. Her hands suddenly drop to her sides as she exclaims in a weary tone. "Okay enough. I'm tryi--!!!" She gasps as all 3 of them suddenly fire on her. The barbed taser probes are barely able to break her skin (Kree physiology and all), but they do put little tears in her jacket. The officers unload an electrical current through the taser lines… but it frankly doesn't do much. No, not because she's immune to electricity. But since the barbs of the tasers didn't get a good grip, there's nowhere for the current to run. Carol glances down, and then up to the officers with an angered look. As one the cops' eyes widen, and one of them even drops his taser. "This damn world is all messed up now! Since when do you guys fire your crap at me?!" She says in an angry tone. And as she speaks… her body suddenly just ignites in a brilliant white and blue cascade of pulsing energy. She draws her fist back, her hair swaying upwards under her cap. The officers for the most part draw back, their arms drawing up in defense and fear. Carol grits her teeth, but she lowers her hand slowly. She then reaches down and pulls the taser lines from her shirt, ripping it a little more. "Son of a…" she utters, throwing the barbs down. She sees the men cowering before her… her body still shimmering with cosmic energy. One of the cops start to stand again, grasping his taser as he looks to Carol.

She turns then, her eyes locking on Logan. Even though she's wearing aviator sunglasses, he would see her eyes suddenly glowing brightly behind them. Her knees bend, and she suddenly launches into the air. As she does, a pulse wave of energy comes from her form. Just enough force to make those nearest to her stumble back. She could have taken off more smoothly… but she's not happy. Those with vantage points would see a single shimmering light rising up into the skies, leaving a brief trail of energy. That point of light pulses brightly, and continues upwards… up… up…. up… until it's out of sight…

Where to now? Where do we go from here? Well that's up to those that received the 'message'. And yes, even Carol hears it. But not until she's broken orbit.

Yep, she now just floats above the planet, an angry look on her features. She turns a little as she floats there, looking back at the planet. The voice in her head… it was such a calming tone… a pleading tone… like someone asking her personally that they needed help. What would Talos say? She looks in the general direction of the United States far below… and towards the eastern part of it… then north… in the general direction of New York. She would ask Talos for his advice, but she has a feeling she knows what he would say. She thinks she knows what she has to do.

Once more she turns as she floats, her body flaring up once more. She is suddenly moving towards the moon…

Almost 10 minutes pass, and she is lowering herself onto the dark surface of the moon. In silence she touches down, moondust rising slightly along her feet. The moondust actually starts to cling to her boots as she now walks along the surface. She quints a little, particles of dust around her above the surface. Not technically in the 'air', since there is no air on the moon. She looks around herself as she walks upon the surface, something she does quite often actually. If you want to get away from it all… well the moon is a good place to do it. She is in the 'Sea of Serenity'.. Mare Serenitatis. When she was a child, sitting up on that hill with her binoculars, this is where she would always look. This spot on the moon. She dreamed of becoming an astronaut and landing here. To be the first woman on the moon. Well.. she supposes technically she is… but certainly not the way she envisioned it.

Almost a half hour passes of her just… walking. Hands in the pockets of her jackets, eyes on the lunar surface before her. As if she were just strolling through the park. A park of eternal darkness, 5/6 of total gravity and no oxygen. Otherwise just like a park. She comes to a slow halt as she nears a small pile of rocks. Crouching down, she effortlessly lifts one of the large rocks off the pile, setting it aside. The rock about 3 feet wide. Then she would reach into the hollow between the rocks and pull out a small metallic case. Carol sets it down next to her as she remains crouching, and she waves her hand over it. The cases gives a soft blue flash (as the energy field protecting it deactivates), and she opens it. As if it were a normal suitcase. And inside… a blue and red uniform… she frowns a little as she stares down at it, and then towards the big beautiful Earth above her. She swore these days were over… but maybe not… looking back to the case, she grasps the uniform inside…

"Can't believe we came all this way for nothing!" Jerry groans walking beside Miriam. "I mean what are we gonna tell the boss?"

"Remind him he said it was a longshot anyway." Miram replies keeping her eyes forward.

"Still this reflects badly on me! Me! I'm supposed to be his top promoter, and you the top performer! We shoulda come back with at least one new face! I swear I miss the old days...."

At that point Miriam tunes Jerry out and thinks instead of what to order when they got back to the hotel, since her nachos were now ground nachos.

The hotel has a bar. Maybe they have something decent or take special orders.

Miriam stops in her tracks when she hears the voice in her head. Jerry keeps walking and complaining.

Symbols of justice, symbols of what is best for your fellow man.

"Debatable." was Miriam's knee-jerk response to that sentiment. This was not an alien feeling, having someone in your head, as in this world you get that now and then kinda like someone who just brushes up against you in a crowd. She was more surprised to find that the hotel image put in her head was in fact the one she was already staying at: The Darkholme on Main. That made a light bulb go off in her head.

Maybe I could convince some people who answer this and don't buy it, to buy my pitch.

"Warbird? Where'd ya go?" Jerry stops short up the street and turns around to see Miriam catching up with him.

"Sorry, thought I forgot something, but I'm all good." Miriam makes up an excuse, not wanting to tip off Jerry. He would be too much, likely, for most anyone who might show up to this telepathically-arranged meeting.

The Darkholme was one of the nicer hotels in Fairfield, but also not too swanky either. It was seven floors of affordable luxury just off Main street.

"I'm gonna call the Boss, then take a freaking nap." Jerry says when they come off the elevator.

"You do that. I got a date." Miriam lies again.

"You kids, yeesh." Jerry shakes his head and laughs. "Just don't nothing too stupid." He says before unlocking the door to his room and entering.

In her room, Miriam changes out of her street clothes and into her Warbird costume. Since this was going to be a kind of super-meetup, seems appropriate to go dressed for the occasion. She leaves her room, stowing her room key in a discrete pocket on her costume, and goes to the elevator to get to the top floor.

When the elevator doors open,
there is someone else inside who had gotten the same message and had her same idea.

180214
"Huh. Scarlet Spider?"

"Heh. One and only." Andromeda replies and steps aside for the other young woman to get on.

"Warbird, nice to meetcha." The other replies. Andromeda notes the New York in her accent, just as most anyone would still pick up the Texas in hers as well. The elevator begins its ascent.

"Warbird. Can't say I've heard of you, to be honest." Andromeda says to make conversation, awkward as it may be.

"Don't watch much Youtube, do ya?" Warbird asks looking aside at her.

"Nah, I'm a bit busy what with...hero stuff...and other...stuff."

We don't like her looking at us. It is uncomfortable.

Right she's kinda intense.

"Look me up after this. I put on a good show, if I do say so myself." Warbird humble-brags the moment before the doors open on the seventh and top floor that is thankfully empty.

"For sure." Andromeda answers. The two exit the elevator and walk down the hall to the room number in both their heads. Warbird knocks twice, and the door opens. But when they enter, there is nobody waiting on the other side. Just the living area of a Presidential Suite.

"Boy howdy, this sure is nice." Andromeda says on entering. The dining table is laden with trays of sandwiches, fruit, desserts, and bowls of ice with various cans of refreshment.

"You can say that again." Warbird makes a beeline for the table, and fixes herself a heavy plate with a little bit of everything. "Whoever sent us here, they really wanna butter us up." She grabs a can of Dr. Pepper and plops down on the couch.

While Warbird channel-surfs for something worth watching, Andromeda goes to the table and has a moral dilemma.

There is a tray of chocolate-covered strawberries.

We love those. Take them all.

No no those are for everybody.

There are other desserts. They will live.

True. Maybe others are watching their figure. It would be doing them a service to take them all.

Exactly.

So Andromeda picks up the whole tray of chocolate-covered strawberries, takes one of the chairs next to the couch, and commences chowing down on them slowly while watching TV and waiting. She ignores Warbird's silent look of judgement. Or maybe it was her watching with fascination how the food is pretty much absorbed when put to her mouth. Could be either or both really.

Warbird stops on a channel showing a rerun of How I Met Your Mother.

"Love this show." Warbird says popping a grape in her mouth.
