Mass Effect: Hunting Wraiths

Alex was pretty used to zeegee, he'd had to repair problems on the outside of the ship. He didn't exactly enjoy it, but he'd been in the environment enough that he was alright with it. "Damn, what I'd give for a good pair of mag boots," he commented, guiding himself through the shuttle door and into the ship itself. He'd admit, his comrade's biotic display when removing the door was impressive. Pulling himself into the hallway, he glanced around and considered that he'd never fought in space before. "Well, we can't miss," he remarked, remembering Newton's laws. The shots they fire would...well, rip up the ship more than necessary if they miss. Might hit something vital and destroy the ship, and everyone on it. It's already a suicide mission, no need to make it worse. "Alright, which way do you think?" he asked, looking toward Vasily.

Vasily floated in the hallway, keeping a pretty neat balance as weird as that may sound. "Not sure..." Muttered him looking at both ways. "To be completely honest... I'm kind of making the plan as we go." Said him shrugging. Yeah, sure a good plan made the chances of success more likely, but making things by the book was discarded the same instant they put a feet in the pod. "Mmmm... I say we go to the bridge. The 'party' cruiser sure have deployed a emergency beacon already, so let's keep this wreckage from going anywhere." Said him. Well, it sounded good on paper.

Between the static caused by the oxygen masks and the vanguard's accent, it was getting a bit hard to understand his comrade. Still, he'd manage. He was a colonist, after all, and he'd gotten pretty used to people with different accents. "You make it sound so easy," Alex replied, chuckling humorlessly. Yeah, just charge into the bridge, yell a bit, act threatening, and take control of the ship. Gonna be easy. He sighed inwardly and began to move himself down the hallway. Then, something occurred to him. "This thing might not have escape pods." He knew exactly how bad negativity could affect missions, but that was a problem that needed to be addressed.

"Afraid the Alliance may shoot us down?" Said Vasily smiling as they floated their way through the hallways. Doors opened and bad guys appeared, probably going to investigate what had just happened. "Woah! Shoot, Shoot!!!" Exclaimed one of the floating pirates through his helmet. Yeah, a Alliance engineer and a 70's Miami cop sure weren't part of their crew. Vasily vanished, jumping to cover through the dark channels of his energy. "Let me guess!? You want to see a vanguard charging gravity-less, right!?" Yelled Vasily to his new friend. Everybody knew about biotics, but very few had seen them in action in a Zero G environment.

(( Just realized: People with regular clothes in Space... How could that go wrong? ))

(( Well, yeah. That's what makes it exciting! :D ))

Alex pulled himself behind a wall column, praying that he'd be able to stay still long enough for him to actually use his omnitool. Again, he cursed himself for not tweaking the damn thing while he had a chance. "Damn straight, the Alliance would shoot us down. Not like either of us have communicators!" Pausing in his typing, he recalled how biotics work. Gravity technically reduced effectiveness because it provided resistance to the movement or whatever they might be trying to do. "Wouldn't it augment your abilities?" he asked, going back to typing the command for his combat drone. He was too busy to form a proper theory, dammit. The holographic drone came to life, floating down the hall toward the pirates. Thank God holograms aren't affected by gravity. Or the lack of.

"Technically!" Yelled him before a ragging blue glow surrounded him and instants later a straight line between his position and a audacious pirate popping out of cover was drawn. The poor guy that had been charged literally flew through the hallway, a hit so mighty the boots on his suit weren't enough to stop him, and thus, ended crashing against a closed door hard enough to put him out of the combat for good.

Just a instant before, Vasily got rid of his barrier, and since there was no atmosphere to offer resistance to the nova, every bad guy around him was shaken like a few beans in a maraca. Then Vasily vanished once more, re-appearing behind a piece of broken hull of the ship. "All yours!" Said Vasily probably hiding more than usual. Biotics in space were cool, but since there was no kinetic resistance, Vanguards had a really tough time with their barriers since most of their energy came from movement.

Well, using rockets or his incendiary capsules was out. The fire wouldn't last long enough to do any damage, as fire needed oxygen and the area didn't really have any. He didn't have enough faith in his ability to hit the enemies to use his pistol just yet, so that left overload and his drones. Sentry turrets were out as well, they only activated after they hit a solid surface and used thrusters to propel itself up to about waist-height. Cursing, he knew he wouldn't be able to take out the pirates with electroshocks, not like this. So, against his better judgement, he peeked out from behind the wall, used an overload to shock the group, and fired a few shots. Thankfully, he didn't miss. The combat drone finished them off quickly while Alex tried to calm his heartbeat.

Vasily took a look at the other marine, understanding that the enemies where out by the looks of him. "Come on, let's find somewhere to put our feet on. I already miss gravity." Said him moving forward. At least having armor would be neat, those things had energy generators of themselves, and for someone that used his own body as weapon, those were vital in combat. "ебать... It's locked." Muttered Vasily once he reached the door. "Hey, tech guy. Care to work your magic in here?" Asked Vasily."

"I have a name, you know," he replied, moving to the door. "First Lieutenant Alex Weaver, at your service." It was strange to think that they'd done all this together and hadn't even introduced themselves yet. Alex floated over to the door, bracing himself against it with his free hand and his feet. Pulling up his omnitool, he started hacking the door's control. It was pretty simple, didn't even require any extra coding. Although, considering the state of the ship, the simplicity of the locking mechanism wasn't surprising. The door slid open with a soft hiss after a second.

Vasily floated through the door and looked at Alex. Making a strong salute, Vasily chuckled and touched the floor as the gravity was restored. "Sergeant Vasily." Replied him. "And I'll save you the troubles of pronouncing my second name." Stated him glad to feel once more something solid under his feet. They had barely had time to introduce each other and get used to gravity once more when the ship began to tremble as the sound of ammunition driven cannons began to fire.

Taking a look thought one of the windows of that hallway, probably taken from the remains of some older ship, it was quite clear what they were firing at. A shiny squad of Turian cruisers had jumped straight into the sector and were getting on firing position quite quickly. "Давай! Давай! We are running out of time!" Hurried Vasily as he moved forward. The allied ships would be ready to open fire in just a few minutes...

Of course that was just an audacious guess, if the pirate ship was in range, why wouldn't be the Turians too? The deaf sounds of the allied impacts on the pirate ship shields filled the whole area, getting hit without pause. "The ship! We are getting behind the ship!" Pointed about Vasily as he hurried even more to the bridge. It looked like the pirates where looking for cover behind the holiday cruiser, and even if the allied ships ceased fire, which was unlikely, the pirates sure wouldn't do so.

Alex nodded. Gravity. Gravity was good. He'd just gotten used to the feeling and was about to tell Vasily that it was a pleasure to meet him when the ship started trembling. The thing was firing its guns? At what? Gah, whatever. They had allies and the pirate ship was running for cover. "Shit!" he exclaimed, running toward the bridge. I'm taking my armor everywhere after this, he swore silently. So much for shore leave. Ducking into another hallway, he noticed a fairly decent-looking door at the end. The bridge had to be in good shape, after all. "Down there," he said, pointing. "You ready?"

Vasilly ran towards the door as his whole body began to glow in blue mist. Just a few steps from the door he stopped suddenly, transferring all the momentum to his biotics, launching a focused single shock-wave that broke the door, sending both panels flying into the bridge. Guess that was as good as a positive answer. Without saying a single word, he vanished once more as usual.

The bridge, as opposite as the rest of the ship, it was a first class bridge, equipped with all kinds of computers and bridge stuff Vasily lacked the knowledge to understand. As a bad side of this, there was a pretty good contingency of pirates in there. As a good side, there was lots of cover and distractions since the ship had to be manned by someone even if the bridge was under attack.

A couple of sentry turrets popped up, one situated above a console. With the height advantage, it started firing at the pirates. Alex activated his combat drone, then ducked behind a console. The drone appeared behind a small group, then shocked them with a current powerful enough to stun. "I'll hack comms, see if I can get a read on what the hell is happening!" he shouted to Vasily, pulling up his omnitool yet again. He had confidence that the vanguard could polish off these guys, probably with ease.

Not even a minute later pirates were flying all over the bridge. Some of them lucky enough to just fly a few feet and fall over some random console, some others painfully crushing against the walls and bad placed rails. stunned with shock? Bam! tech explosions; a group of unexpected pirates vaporized. More guys piling up like ducks? Change a little bit a few molecules here and there, and there you go: a precious singularity the size of a tennis ball making anyone around it float defenseless plus removing shielding and barriers.

Everything seemed to go flawlessly until the stage final boss appeared. Too damn classic it almost seemed a video-game: Shields armor and whatever his body could hold. "What is going on in here!?" Wondered the six feet tall plus armor, eye-patch and cigar between his black teeth. "Amma get'chu all and then am'gunna make'chu walk the plank! Muahahahahaha!!!" Yelled the pirate. "You have to be kidding me..." Said Vasily re-appearing behind cover, not far from Alex.

Alex had nearly finished up with the hack when he heard the big pirate enter. The man started shouting, of course, alerting all around to his presence. He peeked out, then cursed vehemently. "We don't have time for this shit!" he shouted angrily, throwing an overload towards the man. The turians were about to blow them all up, along with the holiday cruiser and every speck of dust in space, and this guy was ATTACKING them? Some people.

"Oyo yo! Walk the plank!" Sang the pirate, who's breath could be smelt a mile away. The overload kind of 'bounced' in his shields and jumped into some console that exploded into a tiny show of fireworks. Vasily dropped a weak push on the pirate and then charged into him, creating a biotic explosion that made him give a few steps back, enough for Vasily to get behind cover once more. "Huh?" The pirate looked at himself and then laughed. All that exhibition had barely scratched him. "Like the bite of a fly!" Exclaimed him as a rain of bullets coming out of his heavy assault rifle began to fall over the marines. "Well, we are not taking him down the usual way. Any ideas!?" Exclaimed Vasily.

One of the pirates near their location had a few cylindrical objects attached to his belt Alex had noted. On a second glance, he realized that they were grenades. Perfect. Taking a deep breath, he rolled to the body and quickly detached the belt. "Frag grenades?" he asked, looking toward Vasily and grinning. Normally, Alex never used explosives. What was the point? He already had enough in his arsenal, and the extra weight would be a pain in the ass. Throw his focus off completely. But this was no normal circumstance.

"That'll have to do!" Said Vasily over the sound of the bullets flying over him. "See if you can work your magic with those and take down his shields!" Advised him before disappearing as usual. Confused by the tricks played by Vasily, the pirate sprayed bullets all over the bridge before focusing on Alex, forgetting about Vasily and his biotic stuff. Was about to open fire over the marine when someone tossed a gun at the pirate. Like literally, tossed the gun at him, not fired it. "Swab the decks, ye parrot-loving blow-fish! Arrrrrr!!!!" Exclaimed Vasily in a hilarious mix of Russian pirate-ish accent, standing on top of one of the control panels of the deck.

(( Sorry for the poof, got some new DLC for ME3...Yeah, I have no life. ))
Gah, vanguards. Alex would never understand them. no matter how hard he tried. Why the hell would you want to throw yourself into an enemy? Combat is dangerous enough, literally charging into an enemy line in the hopes of destroying them before they kill you just seemed like an idiotic thing to do. What this newfound Russian friend was doing only supported that argument, really. You have to be crazy, stupid, or both to be a vanguard. Of course, that was just his opinion. Quickly overloading the pirate's shields, he tossed two of the grenades, one right after the other, and squeezed himself further behind cover. Frag grenades did involve flying shrapnel, after all, and he didn't have the advantage of barriers.

(( Citadel, eh? ^^ ))

The pirate got caught by surprise, stumbling forwards as his shields exploded. "Damn... Careful would you!?" Exclaimed Vasily covering himself from the shrapnel only with his hand, letting his barriers take all the damage. Then, he tossed a little ball of pure energy at the pirate, something that looked so small and innocent pulled 'Black-beard' fan to the ground making him have to struggle to get up. Of course, before he got up, Vasily dropped his signature move and crossed the small gap between both of them in a blink of an eye, making a pretty loud and neat explosion that sent the pirate bouncing all over the panels and wall until his body stopped messing with gravity laws.

"Well, that was fun. Let's see if we can find that Salarian before we got blown up by our own guys." Said Vasily as he went to talk with that pirate captain. With enough luck they may get something out of him.
