It's September 17, 2017 and after 260 days aboard the Atlas IV, you have reached Mars where you will aid in the creation of the first settlement in space. The inhabitants of the settlement are made up of three groups, the first being the Planetary Stability and Maintenance Officers (P.S.M.Os). PSMOs have are experts in scientific, medical and engineering maneuvers in order to preserve the well being of the rest of the inhabitants of the settlement as well as their new home on Mars.

The second group are the members of the Defense Team who volunteered to give up their lives on Earth to protect the Mars settlement. These brave men and women are trained in defensive, offensive and strategic combat.

And finally, the last group to make up the settlement, are the civilians. The civilians are a sizeable group of healthy men aged 18 to 40 and women aged 18 to 35. These civilians have one of the most important duties of the settlement, and that duty is to produce a generation of human martians.

During the course of your new life on Mars, you will create friendships, make enemies, have children. You'll petition for a more cohesive society or maybe you'll even try to usurp power from another group. The possibilities are endless!

But in the end, everyone will have to work together to fend off the attack of a bloodthirsty alien race who's only goal is to conquer the universe. (This part won't happen until way later though. I want you guys to get nice and comfy before the fire nation attacks conflict starts).

[Amira] [K] [Mahmoud]

Title/Suffix: none
Age and DOB: 23; February 8th, 1994
Gender: Female
Place of Birth: Brooklyn, New York
Rank: Airman First Class

Height: 5'9"
Weight: 157 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Blood Type: B Positive
Body Identification Marks: Appendectomy Scar
2" wide Mongolian spot (birthmark) between shoulder blades

Places Stationed:
Joint Base Andrews
Combat Training Received:
Close Quarters Combat
Air Combat Maneuvering
Taekwondo
Weapon Training Received:
Pistol and Rifle Training
Aircraft Weapon Training

Education:
Attended NYU for 3 semesters before dropping out to enlist
Personality:
Amira is a determined young lady with a seemingly iron heart and nerves of steel. This of course, is not true, but she likes to put up a brave front nearly constantly. She gets uncomfortable when conversations veer towards 'mushy' and 'sharing' and may come off as insensitive and brusque when she tries to avoid them. She can be impatient with those who aren't her superiors when she thinks they're stalling and procrastinating and will often go off without them if not ordered to do otherwise.

She can be very stubborn when she thinks that something is correct and is always sure of herself. She is also courageous and doesn't shy away from a frightening or awkward situation. When it comes to dealing with her superiors, she is quite polite and stone faced. With her friends, she likes to joke around and on rare occasions, involve herself in shenanigans, but she always makes sure not to go too far and attempts to be the voice of reason.
History:
On February 8th, 1994, Amira Mahmoud was born to Malik and Halah Mahmoud who immediately began micromanaging their daughter's life. They meant well, because they wanted her to be a brilliant and capable young woman, but they failed to realized that their managing of their daughter's life depressed her. From kindergarten to middle school, Amira's extracurricular activities were chosen by her parents and she spent the majority of her weekends and breaks studying or getting tutored. She didn't have many friends outside of the kids whose parents were friends with her parents and those kids were either as miserable as Amira or bubbly overachieves that she couldn't stand.

In high school, Amira's parents decided to let Amira choose a club for herself since she was older and more responsible. Amira chose cross country track and for awhile she was happy. She made more friends and her parents got her a cellphone (for emergencies) that she used to talk to them all the time. Amira wasn't particularly good at the sport but she was average and her parents didn't see athletics as something to gush over so they didn't penalize her for not winning anything. However one night at the end of her sophomore year, a bunch of kids on the track team hosted a party that Amira couldn't attend due to her curfew, however during the party multiple kids got drunk and the police were called and some people, including a few of Amira's friends, got arrested. When Amira's parents found out, they made her quit the team and join the robotics club instead. So once again Amira was surrounded on all sides by kids she didn't like too well and because she wasn't on the track team anymore, she didn't see her athlete friends anymore and eventually they drifted apart.

Amira graduated from her school as Salutatorian, something that annoyed her parents greatly but they were appeased when Amira was offered a full ride to NYU, if she majored in engineering. At first Amira was upset because although she was good at all things STEM, she didn't care for it as a career option, however her attitude changed when she found out that as an adult her parents couldn't micromanage her as much. However whenever she came home, they would jump down her throat about what classes she was taking and who she was associating with. Sometimes their inquisitions were so much that Amira would leave the house and jump on the first bus to anywhere and just wander around for hours, putting her phone on silent and enjoying her freedom. On one of these spontaneous excursions, Amira witnessed an event held by the Air Force and realized two things; One, they were fucking awesome and two, this was how she could get away from her parents forever.

So she made a call to NYU, dropped out and enlisted in the Air Force. When she returned home, she didn't tell her parents anything and when it was finally time to travel to Texas for basic training, she wrote a note detailing her recent actions and taped it to the fridge, then told her parents she was going back to school.

Basic training was grueling work, but Amira kept her head down and plowed through it, graduating on time. She received recognition for her determination and her helpfulness when it came to technical work. She was about to be deployed to Osan AFB when her commanding officer suggested that she be stationed at Andrews Air Force Base instead because a golden opportunity would arise soon and she would need to be in the states to obtain it. She could have never guessed that he was talking about the Mars Settlement Project.

Other:
Amira has a lock box filled with over a hundred unsent letters to her parents.
She was raised Muslim but does not practice or follow any of the guidelines.
She can't wait for when animals are cleared to live on Mars because she wants a dog.
She does not like celebrating her birthday and does not appreciate surprise parties.
Her middle name is Kyda.
Amira is Lawful Good.

Educational History:
Graduated from Yale University
Desired Occupation: Writer
College Degrees: Master's in Law
Notable Skills: Writing
Debate
Extensive Knowledge of US Justice System
Logical Reasoning
Analytical Capabilities

Personality:
Noah is a pleasant man who is almost always good company. He loves to have stimulating and intelligent debates, but he'll also chat about silly things. He is anything but stagnant and appreciates a shifting environment, as long as the changes aren't too frequent. He possessed a creative mind that ponders on the most difficult subjects to the most simplistic.

When he's writing, he can become quite moody if the words aren't coming out the way he wants them to or if he can't figure out a good ending. During these moods, he resembles something akin to a petulant child and he'll snap at people if badgered too much. However when his bad mood has dissipated, he will apologize and try his best to show his regret for his actions or words.

Noah isn't the most organized or neat person, but he isn't the type to see order in chaos either, which can make him stressed and moody, but he still won't organize his area to avoid the problem in the future. Noah can also be a bit passive when it comes to taking action, which can hurt him in the long run when things need to be done.
History:
Noah was born in Ireland to wealthy parents. He was the fourth of seven children and a twin. His parents were quite affectionate as long as things went their way and they didn't have high hopes for their children, because they believed they would take on the roles meant for them when the time came. It's not as though they didn't believe in their children, they just didn't expect them to stray from their family line. Noah's father had his own firm and had positions reserved for his children once they graduated from college and Noah's mother had her own business and had positions reserved in case her children didn't want to go into law. The Prentice's did not appreciate deviation and constantly informed their children, that if they wanted to stay in the family and have access to the family's wealth, they were to pick either law or business as a permanent career.

Noah was quite fine with this because to him, it was like having a golden safety net and all he had to do to keep the net intact was do what his parents wanted him to do. This mindset stuck with him until he entered secondary school where he found out about the joys of writing. His school hosted a wide variety of contests for varying subjects but one of their biggest contests was the monthly writing contest. The prize was usually to have a luncheon with an author but Noah didn't really care about that, what he cared about was winning and giving his parents something to be proud of. So he entered the writing contests for the first time and lost because he didn't put enough effort into his story. Learning from this, Noah sought to develop his initial story more over the next few months and somewhere along the line he became heavily invested in creative writing. By the time he was ready to compete in the writing contest again, he had written a fantastical short story about magic and royalty and love! He entered his story, won and had a luncheon with an author who changed his life and view of the world. The author praised his creativity and the seemingly endless boundaries to his imagination and encouraged him to write more and look into publication.

As Noah grew, he wrote more short stories and even began working on a full fledged book. Due to his family's wealth, he was able to publish his short stories with no problem and they weren't that popular but most of his peers read them and his mother praised them almost religiously. And that was when things went awry. Misreading the pride of his parents, Noah confessed to them that he was no longer interested in law or business and instead wanted to write stories for a living. They balked at the notion and he and his father had a serious talk about the difference between a hobby and a career.

When graduation rolled around, Noah enrolled in Yale University to major in law, and although most of his time was preoccupied with that, he still found time to develop his book. He graduated from Yale with a masters in law, but instead of going to graduate school immediately he took a break so he could travel the world. His parents didn't mind because they thought he should see the world before he settled down in Dublin forever.

Having seen the more popular areas of Europe during his childhood already, Noah headed to the United States to gain a feel of the country and see all of the famous landmarks. As he traveled, his worldview was opened up to so many new possibilities and he found that the more he was filled with awe, the more he could develop his book. Months passed and Noah found himself dreading having to return to Dublin and resign his existence to a life of law. And that's when tragedy struck. Noah received a call from his twin brother who told him that their parents and oldest siblings had been arrested and charged for tax evasion, and that the rest of their siblings were making themselves scarce, he suggested that Noah do the same before hanging up. Shocked, Noah found himself a permanent resident of the U.S as he didn't have the money to return home (the family account and subsequent cards had been frozen).

A few days later, Noah heard about the MARS project, and volunteered for it, as he was beginning to approach becoming homeless and didn't have anything to lose as he couldn't get in contact with his siblings who had gone radio silent.

  • Spanish - 100% Mastery
  • Latin - 100% Mastery
  • Mandarin Chinese - 91% Mastery
  • Arabic - 75% Mastery

Personality:

Rebecca is an adventurous woman who sees an opportunity in every journey. She's the type to pursue urban legends of whatever place she's visiting or stay for hours trying to get the perfect photo. She can be very critical towards others for being stingy or cautious to the point that her tone can come off as mocking.

She holds herself in high regard and finds it difficult to admit her own faults and when accused, she will debate the other person and most likely sneer at them. She is very self assured, so much that some might see her as arrogant...Which she kind of is. Contrary to this however, she is dependent on others and finds it hard to go it alone. She likes company and always tries to find a travel buddy if not a mate. When things go awry in her life, she usually seeks comfort from a friend and will cling to them until she gets back on her feet.

She is very lively and often in high spirits unless she is recovering from a break up or rejection. When in pursuit of love, Rebecca is horribly naive and often blindsided by her desire to be loved so badly that she doesn't realize the object of her love is put off by her or is pulling away. Unlike some who experience love, she does not reject one aspect of her life while engaging in romantic relations, and will keep in contact with friends.

History:
Having been unlucky all her life on Earth, Rebecca thought it only made sense to move her efforts to the next available place of romantic opportunity, outer-space.

When Rebecca was five years old, she gave Miles Owen, a boy who was mocked for having a nose like a pig's snout, a flower. She'd thought quite hard over this gift for many days and had given herself a stomach ache three days prior when she had struggled to decided whether she should given him a daisy or baby's breath. She'd decided on the daisy, and that day of school right before play time, she'd given it to him along with a wide smile, and in return he had wrinkled his little pig nose and tossed the flower to the side in favor of building a massive Lego tower which he promptly destroyed in the fashion that he had destroyed Rebecca's love.

When Rebecca was eleven, her mother ruined her chances at being Andrew Roman's girlfriend by marrying him and effectively making Andrew, Rebecca's new step father. Then three years later Rebecca's mother divorced Andrew, but before Rebecca could confess to her rekindled love interest, he moved to the states. Plus he was thirty seven years older than her.

In Year 9, Rebecca found her boyfriend Nicholas kissing her best friend, Louise in a broom closet, while feeling up her other best friend, Tony.

At graduation, Jamie, Rebecca's boyfriend of two years came out to the entire graduating class, parents and faculty.

In college Rebecca tried online dating only to be cat-fished six times (two of those times were by the same person).

And then finally, after graduating college, Rebecca met Oliver and they got engaged immediately. Oliver seemed to love all the things that Rebecca loved and he always agreed with what she said. They rarely had any arguments and he got along well with her family.
And then, on the day of their wedding...Oliver didn't show up.

Heartbroken and confused as to why this always happened to her, Rebecca packed her things and jumped on the first flight to the US, to join aunt in Washington D.C. On the plane ride, Rebecca made herself promise to never fall victim to love again and stay focused on her job as a translator. Then six months after living with her aunt, Stella and burying herself in work, Stella told her about NASA's MARS project. She told her that she was going to be on the PSMO team and that she should think about volunteering too, and just like that, the promise she had made to herself on the plane went AWOL.

However the day it came to board the ship to Mars, Stella got cold feet and backed out. Rebecca would was already on the ship at that point so she couldn't have backed out with her. But she wouldn't have anyways, because now she had...

A new chance.
Another chance at love.
On Mars, but hey, it could be worse.

Desired Offspring: Three

Other:
Rebecca does not like nicknames and will probably snap at you for calling her Becky or whatever.
She is allergic to cats.
Her middle name is Ashley.
Rebecca is a chaotic neutral.
She is an ugly crier and giggle snorts if something is really funny.

Education:
High School
Personality: If you had to pick three words to describe, LJ, they would be 'happy go lucky'. It takes a lot to bring this girl down and even when a bad mood inevitably graces, her, she's quick to brush it past and push on. She's a stubborn girl with a heart of gold. She stands by her friends through thick and thin but also has a hard time giving them up. If she sees that she and a friend are growing apart, she will do anything within her power to keep them close, however as things sour, her attempts get more and more erratic, further damaging their relationship and pushing said friend away faster.

LJ has some privacy issues, in that, she does not believe in privacy if you're close enough. So if you're her friend for more than a month, she thinks it's perfectly okay to walk into your room naked and ask for a spare shirt or if she looks fat. She has zero issues with nudity and won't bat an eye at things most people would be self conscious about. LJ also has an iron stomach and it takes a lot to gross her out. She'll readily mix foods together that you wouldn't think of even putting on the same plate, and she'll consume it with gusto.

She can be very naive, because she likes to try and see the best in everyone and she doesn't like when people are upset with her. However if pushed enough or being able to realize that she's around a toxic person, she'll tear them a new one. Kind of. LJ is so sweet that even hearing a curse word makes her cringe, so she thinks of creative alternatives to the words she would use if she had a potty mouth.

Degree(s): Doctorate in Child Psychology
Masters in Experimental Psychology
Bachelors in Sociology
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 120 lbs
Eye Color: Hazel
Hair Color: Brown
Blood Type: O-
Body Identification Mark(s): Burn Scar on right hand.

Educational Institution(s) Attended: Duke University
University of Alabama
Specialty: Child Psychology/Child Development
Notable Skills: Problem Solving
High Intellect
Analyzing People
Empathetic
Personality: Fiona is best described as compassionate. She's always had a soft heart and volunteers her time freely for the benefit of others. She's a very trusting individual, despite the nature of her work and she will always give someone the benefit of the doubt. Fiona doesn't see bad in people and will almost always reason that people are inherently good and are, in most cases, a product of environment. She's not a very outgoing person, but she can and does get along with most people. She's intuitive and observant and has a strong fascination with people in general. Fiona also reads a room well and adapts very well to any situation. She's thoughtful and isn't prone to angry outbursts. In fact, she rarely gets angry at all.
History: Fiona was born in the south to her very caring parents, George and Linda Byrne. Her parents only ever desired one child, so she grew up an only child. Her father was employed by the Marshall Space Flight Center as an Aerospace Engineer and her family lived within minutes of the US Space and Rocket Center. Fiona recalls fondly that she had a perfect view of the space shuttle from her window.

While her father was obsessed with space, Fiona was obsessed with people. As a child, she was always the most caring of her group of friends and she was the teenager who talked to everyone so that no one felt left out. Her peers never had a negative comment about her. Fiona graduated as Valedictorian in her class and went on to accept a full scholarship to the University of Alabama.

While attending college at the University of Alabama, her off-campus apartment complex caught fire. Fiona was trapped in her home and suffered a serious burn to her hand in the process of being rescued. Since then, she has had a serious and sometimes debilitating fear of fire.

After graduating from the University of Alabama with a Bachelors in Sociology, Fiona sought to advance her knowledge and applied for the Masters program at Duke, one of the leading institutions in Psychology. She graduated from Duke in the top five percentage of her class. Not quite done with her education, she went on to earn a Doctorate in Child Psychology.

Last year Fiona's father succumbed to his battle with acute lymphocytic leukemia. George was always Fiona's hero and it had always been his dream to go to space. Fiona came to the decision to join the mission to Mars for her father. Fiona knows that if her father were still alive, he would be very proud that his daughter was one of the first human beings to colonize Mars.

[Grant] [M] [Turner]

Title/Suffix (if any):
Age and DOB:
34|February 11th, 1983
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Straight
Place of Birth: Telma, Washington

Height: 6'2"
Weight: 180 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Black (Shaves it Bald)
Blood Type: AB+
Body Identification Mark(s): Sleeve Tattoo on left arm

Educational History: College Dropout
Desired Occupation: Park Ranger
College Degrees (if any): None
Notable Skills: Excellent Survival Skills
Good Sense of Direction
Peak Physical Shape
Highly Motivated
Personality: Grant is a fun-loving, easy-going person. He rolls with the punches, never really taking too much seriously. He's not the type of person to get angry easily or hold grudges. His motto is usually "Forgive and Forget." He prefers to follow others rather than lead, but he knows his limitations and won't do what everyone else is doing if he feels that it doesn't meet his moral code.

He's a loyal and true friend who'll be there for you in the good and bad times. He's quick to defend someone he cares for, but more in a passive way. He doesn't condone violence and has become very good at breaking up fights. He's the best person to go to if you have a problem because he will always try to help you solve it. That being said, he's a great negotiator and can diffuse any high-tension event quite easily.

Grant likes to think of himself as rather funny and uses humor as shield to hide his own emotions. He doesn't like talking about himself or his feelings and has gotten good at avoiding such conversations. It's not that he does it on purpose, it's just that he's done it for so long that it's become second nature to him. If you happen to get a peep into his inner feelings you'll find a sensitive soul who is truly selfless, but ultimately alone and little bit sad.
History: Grant was born to a single mother, Ann, in Telma, Washington. He was the fourth and last child for his mother. Ann was devoted to the well being of all her children and worked very hard to have a home in which all of her children would thrive.

Grant grew up in the boundaries of the Wenatchee National Forest and he spent his summers exploring the woods on camping trips with his family. Grant came to love the wild and eventually dropped out of college to backpack in all of the national forests America had to offer. His favorite will always remain the one closest to home.

Grant thought long and hard about volunteering for the Mars mission. He loved Earth and the beautiful land it offered, but he felt it was his responsibility as a human being to make advances for the betterment of mankind. He understood the parameters of his task on Mars, and while he isn't very comfortable with the thought of having children with someone he doesn't know, he does want to have the opportunity to be the father he never had.

Desired Offspring: 2

[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]Michael is very smart, which helps him think about things logically instead of emotionally. Sometimes those under him see that as being cold and ruthless, often forcing him into unfavorable terms with subordinates. However because of this he gets results, those of which helps him up in the ranks within the Airforce. Michael has seen both combat on the ground and in the air in the form of small skirmishes. Michael was in the Iraq war, when that ended he started to shift around bases. First he went to Japan, then Germany. He has seen friends die while in combat which has made him a realist, helping him make the right choices when it comes to life or death. Sadly this also bears a burden on him, sometimes Michael feels like he has to win no matter what or the sacrifices made in the greater good would all be for naught. Helping him cope with things like that is sarcasm, providing an outlet for tension and sometimes emotion. [/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]History:[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Michael was born in Columbus, Ohio, January 19th 1982. From birth he had an odd fascination with flying and dog fighting. He grew up watching films about WW1 and WW2, telling tales of the aces who flew and killed in war. From the early age of 15 he decided that he would join the United States Air Force. Michael learned that to truly make it he would have to work his ass off, and that is what he did. He got good grades throughout highschool and finished with almost a 4.0. He learned that to actually get some responsibility he would have to go to the Officers Training School, and he hadn't taken the Air Force's equivalent to ROTC. The only other option he had would be getting a bachelor degree, then going straight into the Officers school. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]Michael figured he would at least take something he enjoyed so he majored in Psychology and minored in Japanese language. After getting his Bachelors Degree he decided to finally enroll into the Officers School. It was very competative and just getting his degree didn't mean he would get in. Surprisingly he was accepted almost right away.[/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]While inside he worked harder than ever before, placing third in his class. Because of this, and his minoring in Japanese language the first place he was stationed was an Air base in Japan. Michael quickly made his way through the ranks and eventually got promoted to Captain. Due to this he had to be restationed in Germany. Even though he didn't know the language, the people in the base he was stationed in and the locals ended up helping him quite a bit. By the time he got his promotion to Major he was fluent in German. [/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]The promotion to Major made Michael quite motivated. Seeing how far he had come just made him more focused on getting higher up the ranks. He decided that he would see how high he could go and just where he would end up. Interestingly enough a position was opened in the Pentagon for a special mission and it was something so out there, Michael had to take a look. The Pentagon usually wasn't looking for people, and if they were it was under lock and key. Not many knew about the mission but he got some of the information with the friends he had made while in Japan and Germany. They were quite vague with what the mission was but it didn't take an expert to see that they wanted some of the best. He decided to go through some of his contacts to make himself a candidate.[/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]Not long after, he got a letter requesting his appearance at the Pentagon. It turned out that the special mission was indeed something nobody had encountered before. Michael and many other were chosen to protect scientists, engineers, and civilians to establish a settlement on Mars. They would have to leave their lives behind and everyone as they know it. It would be a one way trip but something potentially making a mark in Human history. The first settlement outside of earth. As soon as Michael had thought that, the deal was done. He made up his mind to dedicate the rest of his life to this. [/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]It was still quite early in the recruitment and engineering of the project so he stayed at the Pentagon and decided to help figure stuff out. [/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]It seemed as if only months had passed by before they were on Mars.[/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

Weapon Training Received:
Pistol and rifle training; marksmanship
Heavy weapon training

Education:
Secondary school
Britannia Royal Naval College, graduated as a commissioned officer
Completed "Commando Course" of the Royal Marines as an officer

Personality:
[+] Loyal - Malcolm's concept of loyalty is that it's given to people, and that it's more than trust and respect and fondness. He treats it as a commitment to follow someone, whatever they may do and wherever they may end up. As such, earning his loyalty isn't easy but its depth still makes it one of his defining characteristics.
[+] Cunning - As one of those people that's incredibly good at getting himself or someone he cares about out of trouble, Malcolm's got a healthy dash of paranoia mixed with a bit of worldly experience and a lot of cunning. He can try and think or talk or fight his way out of most situations, and he tends to do whatever gets the best results.
[=] Reserved - Some people discuss their emotions with others, even if it's just with loved ones, to work through them or gain insight into them or get advice on them. Malcolm does not. He doesn't show his emotionally vulnerable side very often and almost never willingly. When he does express his feelings, he usually states them like they're concrete facts.
[=] Practical - Malcolm's practical nature is what tends to drive his moral compass; he usually takes the path of greatest gain and least resistance to meet a goal. Prioritized in that order, of course. What's morally correct doesn't really factor in, though his orders and opinions of someone he's loyal to do.
[-] Vindictive - Malcolm is not one to forgive or forget wrongs done to him, though he does the same with favors. He doesn't entangle this in emotions for the most part, but he doesn't let much go, either, and he makes sure to pay both favors and wrongs back in equal measure.
[-] Proud - Pride is easily Malcolm's worst vice. He's as bad at accepting undeserved compliments as he is at apologizing or admitting that he was wrong about a particular subject. His pride is why he doesn't involve others in his emotional business, and his pride is the source of his rigorous professionalism and typically neat appearance.

History:
Malcolm born a middle child, between two sisters, in one of the poorer districts in the London Borough of Haringey. His father was a criminal, no mastermind but good enough to keep his nose clean, and Malcolm's mother was a stay at home mother with a drug habit. Neither were particularly accepting. When a six year old Malcolm tentatively asked each if it was okay to like boys, his father responded with an angry rant about the sin of homosexuality and his mother responded with a simple no.

The only family member he had and ever would consider himself close to would be his older sister, Amelia. She was five years older but managed to be tolerant of her little brother following her around while she visited friends and did small errands for the household. She was polite and smart and confident and drawn to exactly the wrong kind of crowd, which ended up getting her into trouble she couldn't talk her way out of. She passed when Malcolm was twelve, dead of a heroin overdose at just seventeen. Malcolm took her loss hard, but his parents were indifferent to her loss and his pain. His father was adamant that Amelia made her own decisions and her death was her own own fault; his mother felt she deserved it. The whole experience turned Malcolm towards the cynical and drove him to work all the harder to get out of the environment he grew up in.

He got together enough money to take a trip to Germany once he was out of secondary school, and then he just...didn't go back home. Instead, he traveled and hitchhiked his way around Europe and through Asia, finding his way to Thailand after a number of months. It was there he met a Buddhist monk who interested him enough that he stuck around for a while, then a few months, then two years. He learned about Buddhism and learned how to defend himself, learned to speak Thai and learned a lot about who he really was as a person. He went home with a slew of new skills and a couple of protective tattoos.

The goal Malcolm set his sights on once he got back home was the military, and he enlisted with the Navy at nineteen. Graduating from Britannia Royal Naval College as a commissioned officer, Malcolm set about proving himself to his superiors and establishing a reputation as a hard worker and fine soldier. At twenty four, he applied to become an officer of the Royal Marines. After passing all the rigorous tests necessary to even get into basic training, Malcolm worked his way through training, earned his green beret, and made officer. His operational history after that is classified for the most part, though he earned a few commendations and even a Distinguished Service Cross for valorous actions he took on an operation in Iraq. An important event from that time was when he met the lovely Angel Cove. He was a member of a security detail for a meeting between the ESA and NASA, back when he was still a freshly minted Royal Marine, and he ended up asking the engineer to drinks after the meeting was over. Angel (eventually) accepted.

A few years later when the military personnel for the Mars Settlement Project were selected, Malcolm was put on the short list of prospective candidates for the UK to "lend" to the project. Angel, being a confirmed member of the staff and a PSMO, pulled some strings and got his name to the top of the list, and Malcolm is more than happy to join his boyfriend on the project.

"I, um, didn't see that cartoon when I was a kid. My early childhood was ninety percent Star Trek and Discovery Channel. That's...probably why I'm such a nerd."

Title/Suffix (if any): N/A
Age and DOB: 27; September 4th, 1990
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Bisexual
Place of Birth: Carlsbad, New Mexico

Height: 5 feet 8 inches
Weight: 136 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Blood Type: O+
Body Identification Mark(s): Full-sleeve tattoo on her left arm; Asian styled dragon wrapped around her right leg; Vulcan Salute from her neck down her spine

Educational History:
Graduated from Oregon State University
Desired Occupation:
Librarian or something involving art
College Degrees (if any):
Bachelor's in Fine Arts
Notable Skills:
Tattooing and tattoo art
General artistry, some knowledge of graphic design
Logical reasoning; organization

Personality:
[+] Dependable - Alex is someone that can be relied on. She'll be at least five minutes early to an event, she'll complete tasks she agrees to take on as soon as possible and as fastidiously as she can manage, she'll wake up at two o'clock in the morning to pick up a friend at the airport. Her word is, barring the fire nation attacking sudden conflict, something one can count on.
[+] Creative - Even with the logical way she tends to approach life, Alex is quite good at creative thinking and it shows in more than her art. She's also adept at, say, solving a challenging riddle or jury-rigging a simple fix for a ceiling, along with other skills related to creative thinking.
[=] Efficient - Alex is a fairly neat and well-organized person, both of those traits because of her need for efficiency in her work and in her day to day tasks. She doesn't procrastinate and doesn't appreciate that particular trait in others, so tends to complete jobs, paperwork, and other things as fast as she's able.
[=] Shy - Though Alex leans decidedly towards extroversion, her social anxiety is an obstacle she's never quite been able to scale. She likes people and enjoys being around them, but there's no established set of rules governing social interaction and she's afraid of embarrassing herself or drawing attention or being rejected, so she tends to keep quiet in groups and avoid public speaking as much as possible.
[-] Critical - If one wants a blunt and honest commentary on a report for work or a personal project or anything like that, Alex is the person to go to. Her standards for the people close to her are fairly high, though she only calls them out on the worst of it. The standards she sets for herself are higher and she isn't so gentle with herself.
[-] Pragmatic - Alex is the antithesis of a sentimentalist, as she's the sort of individual who throws away things that have lost their use or cuts off friends who have become an obstacle instead of a source of support. The saying "out with the old and in with the new" is something she takes to heart and she's merciless in its application.
History:
Alex was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico to one Alejandra Cordoba, who was barely seventeen and in no fit position to raise a child. So, after a difficult delivery, Amalia signed the paperwork and signed over the custody of her newborn daughter to Ellen and Franklin Baughman. Ellen was employed as a scientist at the local lab in Carlsbad and Franklin was a civil engineer for a fairly prominent contractor, so Alex was well taken care of but neither of her adoptive parents had as much spare time to spend with her as they'd have liked. Still, Alex made it through early childhood mostly undamaged. Once she turned five, she started picking her own TV programs to watch and her own books to read, and as soon as she discovered Star Trek, the young girl was hooked. Sci-fi became her favorite genre of fiction, TV shows or otherwise, and space fascinated her down to her core.

School went fine, for the most part. Her adoptive parents had (perhaps over-zealously) prepared Alex for her school years. Franklin tutored her in math, her worst subject, and his logical and somewhat manner of doing so is what set the foundations for her high standards for herself later on in life. No amount of tutoring could teach Alex to socialize, however, and she was a bit awkward around others even as a child. Ellen and Franklin chose to adopt a second kid when Alex was seven, a five-year-old boy named Oran, and it took no time at all for the pair of them to slip into a rivalry. As they grew up, Oran turned out to be every bit as artistic as Alex but he was energetic and social, practically puppy-like in personality. Alex grew up a quiet doodler, her glasses and love for documentaries and Star Trek setting her firmly in the "nerd" circle. She and Oran wouldn't grow close until they were both adults.

After graduating high school with a 3.8 GPA and good SAT scores, Alex applied to Oregon State University and was accepted. She finished her degree in Fine Arts after four years, her focus on drawing and graphic design. Her original plan was to become a concept artist; that changed while she was on a weekend excursion to Portland during her second year. She was people-watching in a small coffee shop when she realized one of the other patrons had a drawing pad with him; he noticed her watching and called her over. They ended up getting into an art discussion over the course of the morning and she found herself fascinated by what he did: tattoo artistry. After some research and no small amount of careful thought, Alex decided that was what she wanted to do. It wasn't exactly her initial plan, but the idea of making art for people appealed to her. After graduation, she moved up to Portland and apprenticed under an artist for two years before becoming a fully fledged tattoo artist herself.

Oran was the one who heard about the NASA project first, and he was the one who pointed Alex towards it. She was hesitant to apply at first, because the idea of having children with someone she'd never met was daunting and the idea of a mere tattoo artist like herself going to settle Mars sounded crazy. After some long thought and a few discussions with her brother ("Come on," he'd say, "how many chances are you going to get to be one of the first humans to go somewhere? In space?") she came around and applied. The mental and physical examinations both went very well, and she was selected as one of the civilian members of the Mars Settlement Project. She's quite excited, but also cautious about the dangers and the whole "having kids" thing.

[BCOLOR=transparent]Knows how to figure people out[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Dae-Hyun is a very analytical guy. He is constantly looking over people and slowly reading them to figure out on how to handle situations. Upon finding out something about someone, he will alter himself slightly to complement their persona. However, when allowed to truly be himself, he is still quiet but likes to crack jokes and talk all the time. Dae-Hyun is also a great listener. If you have a problem, even if he's never met you, he will listen and try to help you solve whatever problem you have. He often stays expressionless, but is just bad at expressing emotions to people he isn't close with. Once he becomes closer to someone, he opens up much more and expresses himself better. Dae-Hyun also posseses great self-control, but also struggles with self-confidence in relationships.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Dae-Hyun is also a very lonely person, his emotional distance from others causes him to suffer from small spouts of mild bi-polar depression. During these times, he seemes perfectly fine, however he is slowly criticizing every move he makes. These spouts can range anywhere from a day to a month. During this time, he is quicker to snap a people and gets quite crancky. While is normally a non-violent person, sometimes he gets very violent during these episodes. He always apologizes and tries to fix whateve he breaks after these rages, for this reason he isolates himself during his internal war. To him, it is caused by home sickness and loneliness, so he often tries to open up to people to prevent these thing from happenning. Sadly, his actions are fruitless, as they happen as naturally as a womens period. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]History: [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent][BCOLOR=transparent]When Dae-Hyun was born, he was a quiet baby. He didn't cry unless needed, and he stayed quiet for a long time growing up. His parents feared he would become mute, but once they started discussing school to him, he started talking more. Eventually, Dae-Hyun decided he would like to be homeschooled. So, he and his mother became very close. When Dae-Hyun told his mom about college, she insisted he get a tattoo. Loving his mother too much to say no, he let his mom pick the tattoo and location. He did question her why, and she explained to him that she had fallen quite ill and wanted him to remember her by something more than a picture.[/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]

Dae-Hyun went through college without a problem, but he did decide to take this time to get closer with his father, who divorced Dae-Hyuns mother after his first year in college. They grew close, but never shared the bond that Dae-Hyun and his mother had. His father did convince him to go to america, so Dae-Hyun did. And to honor his family, he signed up for the army. When notified of the mission, Dae-Hyun agreed, hoping to bring pride to his father and mother. Which leaves him where is he curently, content and hoping his parents are happy.

Irene White is a cool and quiet woman. Even in preschool, it was obvious that Irene was a bit more mature than the other kids around her. When other girls were playing with dolls, Irene was solving puzzles. Now, she isn't much different. Irene is incredibly anti-social and dedicated strictly to her work. Married to it, if you ask some.

Unlike most people, Irene prefers to look at things realistically. She comes off as a pessimist to most, but she really just knows when things have to stop or when it is hopeless. She is very strict in making sure that her coworkers stay on task and don't let the little things distract them. She is independent and hates relying on others with a passion. She also tends to take on a leadership role when put in groups or faced with challenges. To some, she comes off as bossy, which is why she normally avoids interaction with people.

    History
Irene was an oddly quiet child. She would rarely scream or cry, the complete opposite of her twin sister, Theresa. She grew up with Theresa clinging to her and she avoided people to do puzzles or stare up at the clouds. She was seven when she took an interest in architecture, which later grew into a fascination with engineering. In school, she managed to skip two grades {though not at the same time} and many called her a genius. Of course, being the youngest kid in your class does not come without its consequences. She was bullied relentlessly by other children and when she came home with a black eye one day, her father, James, enrolled her in Krav Maga classes. No one bothered her after that.

When Irene was nine, she was volunteering at the local animal shelter when she started to play with a particularly cute orange one, but it attacked her. She ended up with several deep scratches and a crippling fear of cats, especially orange ones. Her father picked her up and took her home.

A few years later, she woke up to find her father gone. Her mother, Marie, announced that she was divorcing him and he was staying with a friend. Theresa became very distant and even Irene became a bit more cold towards people. Of course, she helped her mother out. However, she was curious to know what happened between Marie and her father. When she asked, Marie told her the truth. James had cheated on her with a woman from out of town. Irene was furious with her father, but she never told her sister the truth.

Many years after that, in her second year of college at ASU, Irene found an odd friendship in the form of Desiree Kane. Rivals in high school, they quickly became fast friends in college. They started to do everything together and even spent the holidays with each other's families. Irene found herself falling in love with Desiree, but when she finally admitted her feelings to the other woman, she was rejected in the most horrible way possible. Public. Humiliation. After that, she swore off romance forever and focused all of her attention on her work. She graduated top of her class and continued to push forward.

Connor J McKinley

Title/Suffix (if any): Dr.
Age and DOB: 23
Gender: Male
Place of Birth: Dublin, Ireland
Division: Agriculture.
Degree(s): B.S. Degree in Agricultural Science. Master's Degree in General Biology.

Height: 5'11"
Weight: 175
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Blood Type: B-
Body Identification Mark(s): A birthmark right above his left ear, a small patch of white hair, that is fairly unnoticeable until he grows his hair out, which he often does.

Educational Institution(s) Attended: Purdue University.
Specialty: Agricaulture
Notable Skills:
Calm and methodical problem solving.
Critical thinking.
Able to identify many plant species by looking, feeling, and even smelling their leaves. Yes, smelling.

Personality: Connor is one that wouldn't really notice if you showed up, asked him a question, and left halfway through the answer. He'll then look up, realize you left at some point, become incredibly red in the face, and try his best to pretend that never happened. Because of experiences similar to the one explained, he is fairly shy around people. He just doesn't want to be or feel embarrassed, understandable really. But you ask him about something he knows much about or feels strongly about, then he will tell you everything you need to know and about anything relating to it.
History: Simple enough really. Born and raised in Dublin, he's the stereotypical nerd of grade school and high school. But he didn't appear to notice the bullying, he was so engrossed in whatever book he was reading. He didn't settle on one topic until his senior year of high school, as I'm sure is what most people do. He figured he could grow plants, he knew them inside and out and truthfully they were pretty much the same all around the world. But when he was accepted into Purdue and began taking classes, he was nearly blown out of the water. We know, however, that he hunkered down and set himself to passing his classes. And he didn't just pass them, he flew through them. Miles above his closest rival, he became the greatest student Purdue has had in a while. And naturally, having a genius on board, especially one focused on agriculture and working towards Martian crops and livestock, was sought after for the program. When they saw Connor, they dragged him along.

Other: "With fortitude and compassion, I will make a plant that can grow on this planet, and I will find a way for livestock to survive and thrive."

Personality:

[BCOLOR=#000000]Shaemus is the quiet guy in class that was always taking notes. He's the guy that helped you pick up your books, but when you went to thank him he was already gone. He's the person you want to go talk to, but see the scars on his wrists and think you don't have what it takes to understand what he's been through… Shae is a very distant kind of person. He speaks to people when spoken to, or when he actually needs to to get something done. He spends his time hard at work, and doesn't seem to have anything else going in his life besides that.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]Secretly Shaemus dreams of a happy life. He loves the people that randomly hug him, who smile brightly at him when he comes in for work, and the ones that ask him questions even if his answers are curt. Patients that are just beginning to grow their families are his favorites because of how scared and concerned the father is, the mother staring loving at her husband, all of them focused around the gift of life. He doesn't think he deserves to have his own children, instead he stands at the sidelines looking in on other people's happiness as he wishes for his own.[/BCOLOR]

History:

[BCOLOR=#000000]Shaemus was born to a Andrew and Erin Bernard when they were both over forty years-old, which was quite the surprise to the couple. Andrew, a wealthy business owner, had already made out most of his earnings to be funded into a retirement fund. Erin, a extremely well-payed plastic surgeon, was in charge of making enough money to pay the monthly fees for their manor. A baby had not been there plan, not even when they had been young and just beginning their lives. Children had not been something Erin wanted, and Andrew was fine with keeping all of his earnings up until the day of his death. But the pair were indeed pregnant, and Erin began to make plans so that the baby wouldn't need anything at all growing up.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]Nannies, maids, and tutors were set up to fully develop Shaemus's skills before he was even born, each waiting for their time to shine and large lump of cash from the Bernard family. But, the staff never got fully utilized. Erin died during childbirth after a long period of pain and hemorrhaging. Shaemus almost died himself, as his umbilical cord was wrapped dangerously around his neck. Upon arriving into the world Shaemus actually wasn't breathing, but luckily a nurse was able to preform infant CPR on him in time for his life to be saved. With a Erin gone after almost twenty years of marriage, Andrew was left with a son that he held no attachment to. How could he love a son that he had never wanted and had ended up killing the only person he really loved?[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]So Shaemus grew up in a large home filled with people that answered to his every need, except his father. A child needs to have the parental guidance on learning basic needs, yet his father turned away with a sneer as Shaemus took his first steps or said his first words. The only person he had that even could be viewed as a parent was his Nanny Maven, who took care of him as if he were her own child. With a distant father, a descended mother, and no real guidance in life, Shaemus grew up as a typical rich boy who got whatever he wanted.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]Shaemus didn't learn the truth of his mother's death until he was eleven years old, when he got into his first fight and got suspended from school. He came home bloody and bruised, tears running from his brown eyes as he searched for someone to help him clean up. Maven had gotten sick a few days prior, and hadn't been at the house since. The maids were in a rotating shift, so no life bustled in the halls or in the kitchin. In the first time since he was born, Shae realized just how empty his house was. Blood dripping from his busted lip, tears rolling down to mix with the blood from his fight, he sat in the middle of the front room and cried.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]His father must have heard him, because moments later Andrew rounded the corner to see his soon sitting in a helpless state. The older man's cruel eyes did a once over before sighing in exasperation. "You are truly useless, Shaemus," Andrew sneered walking over to his son. Shae had learned not to speak to his father unless asked a direct question, and even then the answers were supposed to be simple "Yes, sirs" and "No, sirs". "I can't believe you were the one that survived. It's been eleven years and I still wish everyday that she would have lived. That if you would have came out right, that she would still be here with me. And I wouldn't have to deal with a worthless son who does nothing but embaresses me.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]That was the first time Shaemus heard the truth of his mother's death, and the first time his father hit him. A child will always believe that he is at fault for a parent's rage or sadness, and Shaemus was no different. He spent the next seven years getting to the top of his class, taking online college classes the whole time so when he graduated he could go straight to medical school. His father didn't have the time to come to Shae's award ceremonies, sports events, or even high school graduation. He did make the time to make sure he understood what he did "wrong" every time Andrew pulled out a belt or a cane, hitting Shae until he was bloody and bruised.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]Maven died when Shae turned twenty-two, and he took that harder than anything else. He could handle knowing that he killed his mother upon arriving into the world. He could handle that his father hated him and beat him senselessly just to make himself feel better. He could not, however, handle losing the only person who had ever truly seemed to love him. Shae had just finished his four year MD program, and had been accepted into the Radiology Trainee program at the main St. Louis MRI center. Maven supported his dream of helping building families with their children before they were born, so that maybe he could stop a death similar to his mother's.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]But Maven was gone, and with her his need to do anything with his life. Shae began a downward spiral into a deep pit of self-hatred that he wasn't sure he would ever get out of. He drank recklessly, started using marijuana regularly even though he knew it could cost him his training spot at the MRI center, and… he began to hurt himself physically. Causing himself pain was something he could control, something that reminded him he was human, and something that reminded him of his childhood. He no longer lived with his father, but the memory of everything he ever did to him was not going to be forgotten.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]It's been four years since Maven's death, and Shaemus is doing better. He doesn't drink unless at a social event where it is considered courtesy, he hasn't smoked anything since, but… every once in awhile he does revert back to physical harm. On bad days the only thing that makes him feel like he is alive is pain, so he gives into the feeling no matter how much it scars his body. He takes antidepressive medicine, but medication isn't always all someone needs. Shae still has no one to confide his life into, no one to trust, and no one to love and have his love in return.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]When Shae graduated from his radiology training, his professor pulled him aside to speak with him. He told Shae about how he had been asked to travel to be a radiologist on the first settlement on Mars, but believed he was too old for the job. He explained what Shae would need to do, and how he planned to put his name down instead of his own. Shae agreed, figuring that finding problems with children on Mars was just as important as finding problems in the womb on Earth. He hopes that maybe living a totally new life, on a new planet, will help speed up his healing process.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]Amelia is the sweetest girl you will ever meet. She would give the shirt off her back to someone if they actually asked for it. Her past isn't something she likes to talk about, but she isn't going to lie if someone asks her a direct question. Yes, she slept with her sister's husband. Yes, she made a fake account to do so. And no, she doesn't regret any of it. She thought she was in love with the man, and love makes a person do crazy things. She is a firm believer in always telling the truth, no matter if it might hurt the person asking. If someone can't handle the truth, then they shouldn't ask for it.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=#000000]However, Amelia isn't afraid to get down and dirty. She will not stand for someone being bullied, oppressed, or just treated wrongly for no reason. She hasn't had to get into any fights in her life, but she isn't afraid to roll on the ground to protect someone else. But, she has little regard to her own well-being, and can sometimes come across clueless with morning breath and unbrushed hair in the afternoon after spending the entire day tinkering away at some electronic in her room.[/BCOLOR]

History:
Amelia was born to a Shane and Tanya Wright in a wave of disappointment. Amelia was the third born girl to the pair, and they had wanted nothing more than a little boy in their life. Her sister's, Stacy and Lucille, were ecstatic to have another little princess to grow up with. Each girl was two years younger than the one before them, meaning when Amelia was born Stacy was four and Lucille was two. Growing up the girls were inseparable, the three little princess that rules their own little corner of the world. But girls always seem to find fault in something, and as the years progressed the girls grew distant from each other. Stacy was jealous of Lucille's bright red hair, Lucille was jealous of Amelia's natural beauty, and Amelia was jealous of Stacy athleticism. Girls will be girls, and by the time Amelia hit the third grade they were no longer sharing toys and making up stories together, rather they were staying as far away from each other and hoarding their best outfits so the others couldn't find them.

When the eldest Wright sister was a senior, Amelia had just started the eighth grade and her true emotions towards boys were just beginning to blossom. Before hitting fourteen years old, most boys had been gross and viewed as little rats. But Tyler Rhoads, Stacy's first real boyfriend, was different than the rest. When he came over to their house for dinner he smiled extra special at her, he asked her questions about the teachers she had and volunteered to be on her team when they played board games. His eyes shone a brilliant blue every time she was around, and his black hair feel into his eyes in just the right way… She just had to make sure that Tyler's eyes sparkled at her, and only hear. So began her plan to win Tyler from her sister, no matter what.

Two years later Tyler and Stacy announced their engagement, and Lucille moved off to Tucson to get a degree in law. It was just Amelia now, alone for her first time since she was born. What could she even do? Stacy was the peppy cheerleader, Lucille the firey red-head with a passion for justice. Amelia couldn't paint, dance, or sing, and she wasn't one to go out onto the court and wave some pom-poms around. She had no interest in getting to know people besides Tyler, and he had just announced that her sister was his soon to-be bride. So, Amelia turned to something that would keep her mind and hands busy; electronics.

So, for her junior and senior years of highschool she spent most of her time tinkering away in her room and different electronics, or on her laptop learning the various coding of the World Wide Web. Her parents hated her little hobby, but at least she was content with being busy by herself. However, Amelia had not given up her childhood fantasy of wanting to have Tyler to herself. He had matured since he was eighteen, his hair a little shorter, and his facial hair a little fuller, and every time he kissed Stacy Amelia's heart broke in two. But it had been over a year since the pair of them had been married, yet neither one announced anything about being pregnant or trying to get pregnant. It was a sign to Amelia, that perhaps Tyler wasn't meant for Stacy, but for her. Why else would God not give them a child? It had to be that they simply weren't right for each other…

Amelia made a social media account under the name "Scarlet Edgens". Any fool could have seen that the profile was a fake. "Scarlet" was spitting image of the world-renowned actress Scarlett Johansson, the profile had little to no friends, and it had been made just a few days before it sent a message to Tyler. Tyler must have been desperate for something new though, because he responded to Scarlet in just a view minutes. So began the end of Amelia's high-school career, as she lived her life as the quiet girl in the back of the class who knew all the answers during the day, and went home to text "her" boyfriend with a smile on her face. Stacy and Lucille had everything growing up anyway, and had always taken her things because she was the smallest, now it was her turn to take something that wasn't her's to begin with.

After high school Amelia was accepted into a technical program at South Mountain community college, where she spent most of her day learning everything she could about the inner workings of everyday computers. Of course, she learned all the ways of photoshop and other image sites, so "Scarlet" was becoming less like a cheap knock-off of an actress and more of a real person. Of course, Tyler still had no idea he was cheating on his wife with her little sister, but he was in fact still cheating. On the day of her twentieth birthday her and Tyler finally met up. She wore a blonde wig, big sunglasses, and wasted no time luring him to a dark room so that she could get what she finally wanted… During their escapade, her wig fell off, and she will never forget the look of horror on his face as he realized who he was in bed with. "What?" he screamed, jumping up. "Amelia?" he questioned, pulling violently at her dark hair. His eyes flicked over her body, before he took his other hand and gripped her jaw. "Do not tell anyone about this. Do not speak to Stacy again. If you tell anyone, I swear to god I will kill you." Without another word he threw his clothes back on and ran out the door. Amelia sat there, cold and crying, before she too picked herself up and walked out the door.

Almost six months passed before anything happened, and when it did hell might have risen up from the ground to take hold of Amelia's life. Tyler and Stacy had moved to a small little town an hour away, but were coming back to stay a few days for Thanksgiving. Anxiety rippled through Amelia at the thought of seeing Tyler again, but it was different than the kind she was used to. Her heart no longer fluttered with anticipation, her stomach didn't swarm with butterflies, instead she was filled with fear and loathing. She hadn't told anyway about how she had lost her virginity, and didn't plan to anytime soon.

But Tyler didn't come with Amelia, Stacy came alone with tears in her eyes. She ran to her family, explaining how she had found Tyler in bed with another girl and couldn't bear to stay with him any longer. Relief flooded through Amelia at the thought of never seeing Tyler again, but the feeling was short-lived as Tyler pulled up into the driveway just a few hours after Stacy did. Tyler, who had always been sweet and kind, was now a drunken monster who lashed out at everyone. Amelia's family tried to keep him out, but he eventually found his way into the house. All three of the Wright girls sat on the couch, Stacy with tears running down her face, Lucille shielding Stacy, and Amelia rising to face the menace in front of him.

"Move out of my way, you little whore. You're the reason I'm in this mess," Tyler said, stumbling forward and slurring his words. "Just leave Tyler, you're upsetting everyone," she said, hoping that her sister was too upset to realize what she was talking about. "I don't care, you've ruined my life! You made me become this, you know. I was never unfaithful until I met up with you," he hollered, clutching the wall for support. "What is he talking about, Amelia?" Stacy said, lifting her head from Lucille's protective stance. "He's drunk, Stacy, he doesn't know what he's talking about," she said, eyes glued to the man she had thought she loved. "You tell me what he means right now!" she screamed. "Yeah, tell her little girl," Tyler said, laughing maniacally.

It's been over two years since that incident, and now Amelia has no contact with her family. She was kicked out of the house without warning, and Lucille didn't have the guts to let her stay with her in Tucson. Stacy and Tyler are back together, considering the bump in their marriage was Amelia's fault, and neither of theirs. They've finally gotten pregnant, and are due any day now. Lucille got married to someone named Trey Barker, and Amelia wasn't allowed to attend the wedding. Neither of her parents have talked to her, sent her money, or asked her how she was doing in the span since the incident with Tyler, and Amelia doesn't plan to reach out to them first. She has finished her degree in Computer Networking at the top of her class at community college, and lives in a flat by herself with nothing but the electronics around her. No one on earth would notice if she disappeared, so why not begin her own family on Mars?
Desired Offspring: Five"Honestly? I've always wanted a large family."

Angel is generally tough to get along with at first. He's stubborn and likes to complain, he certainly doesn't get along with anybody too optimistic. He's constantly sarcastic and really doesn't know when to shut his mouth. He's always determined to have the last word, even if it gets him into more trouble than necessary. If he doesn't like something, you'll know about it.
Even though lots find him annoying, most can appreciate that he's very hard working and dedicated to his work. Whilst he won't enjoy the extra hours he stays awake to finish something, he certainly won't give up til it's done.
When confronted with any sort of conflict, Angel uses sarcasm as his first line of defense. You'll nearly never hear him raise his voice or hear it shake, even if he is ready to run. Anything more than a sarcastic comment, and Angel is ready to run far away. He's never been all that brave, and probably will run and hide from big conflicts, literally.

"He's a pissbaby-"
"I am not a pissbaby!"

History:
Born to a Jewish father and Latina mother, Angel was an only child. His father worked 9-5, his mother stayed at home to raise him. He was a privileged boy who grew up in a big house off the coast. He had a big family and lots of cousins.
Angel went to school and just as his father wished, Angel was very bright. Although his English wasn't great, since he spoke Spanish to his mother at home, Angel excelled in science. Showing he had a knack for numbers, Angel was encouraged by his family to study it when he was older.
At 10 years old, Angel and his parents moved to an even nicer home on the water front. He tried to get into watersports, but after two minutes on a speedboat, he threw up into the ocean. It was a painful experience for a kid who really loved moving machines.
When he was 14, he realized he just wanted to make the machines, not so much be on them. He got straight A's and was really excelling. He had an okay social life, but his family life was much more exciting.
It was sad to have to leave his big house and constant family company, but at 18, Angel was accepted into CIT. In university, Angel studied hard, met friends, came to the conclusion boys were just as attractive as girls, and began to make NASA his goals. It was an exciting time in his life.
After graduating, Angel quickly applied to the RGP, getting accepted to the scheme.
During his time on the RGP scheme, Angel started a part-time degree at MIT online in Aerospace engineering.
Angel proved to be one of the sharpest tools in the toolbox of NASA's young engineers. He was brought as an intern to the possibility of a MARS program. Angel was insanely dedicated to the MARS project. It took years of work, but Angel worked his way into the engineers who were creating the ship to take them there. He was the youngest, but with his new ideas, they happily accepted him into their ranks.
During the constant meetings and late nights, Angel met a stand out marine during a meeting between ESA and NASA. He was put off by his forwardness, but Malcolm persisted. When Angel finally got to the date, he wished he hadn't been so stubborn to begin with, not that he'd ever admit it.
Once the program became official, Angel was one of the first names put forward for it. He knew every last detail of the engines up there, they wanted him to be up there to make sure it all went to plan.
Being in a relationship, Angel couldn't even think about leaving earth without Malcolm. He'd make jokes sure, but it'd keep him up at night. So it was a blessing when he saw his boyfriends name on the short list of British military. He quickly tugged some strings with HR and made sure Malcolm's name was on the top of that list.
Although he was congratulated throughout the NASA offices, Angel really wasn't looking forward to the flight..

Other:
- Suffers from motion sickness
- Is scared of bugs
- In a relationship with Malcolm Hayes
- Bisexual
- Loves rock and country music
- Very queasy
- Honestly can't and won't stop talking
- Went to church just to keep his mother happy, he still wears a cross around his neck, even though he's not completely religious
- Loves to make fun of people, can't take it though

Personality:
[+] Tenacious - Though he goofs around and makes self-depreciative jokes and downplays how much work actually went into getting him where he is, Dalton is an incredibly hard-working person and a difficult individual to deter, no matter what he has to push through or what troubles find their way into his path.
[+] Open minded - One of Dalton's defining characteristics is his acceptance of other people, regardless of their opinions on any topic no matter how controversial. He's got his own opinions and he's quite happy to debate the subject of your choice, but he doesn't take any of it personally.
[=] Inquisitive - Dalton seems to be a never ending fountain of questions, and that has its positives and its negatives. On one hand, he can hold up a conversation perfectly well no matter the subject matter. On the other, his near constant curiosity can get pretty annoying.
[=] Shameless - It's practically impossible to embarrass Dalton, regardless of the subject being discussed or whatever humiliating story you may have on him. He can talk about the nitty gritty details of STDs or that one time he shit himself right before class started and wound up being late or how weird the weather's been lately like they were all apart of the same conversation.
[-] Reckless - Another one of Dalton's defining characteristics is his attraction to danger. He spends what little free time he earns doing dumb things, like going rock climbing while neglecting to use safety ropes or harnesses. He also tends not to think before making decisions and leans towards high risk high reward strategies.
[-] Sensitive - Dalton can talk about anything under the sun...with the noteworthy exception of himself. He tends to take critique and criticism personally, tends to get touchy when even gently teased about particular subjects (his risk taking, for example) and has a snappy and biting temper when hurt.
History:
Dalton grew up in a chaotic household, what with him being born as the youngest of seven with his oldest brother being sixteen. It helped the chaos exactly none that he was a born troublemaker, the sort of kid who saw a tree or a fence and tried to climb it, so bruises and scrapes were the norm for him as a kid. It wasn't until the summer after he turned nine that he broke his first bone, however. It was an experience that would stick with him. The cause was simple enough; he'd fallen from a tree and his right arm impacted a rock that broke both the bones in his arm in a compound fracture. The fix involved a number of pins and a pair of plates put in his arm, then removed after the bones had healed. It was the doctor who performed the surgeries that made it such a lasting experience, what with her patience in answering the curious nine-year-old's incessant questions about his bone, his treatment, and eventually more general things about being a doctor. When Dalton finally asked if she liked being a doctor, she told him that she liked helping people and suggested that he could be a doctor, too, if he wanted and he worked very hard. That answer would stick with him for years to come.

After recovering from the break, Dalton focused more on school and started pulling ahead in his classes. After all, he had to work hard if he wanted to fix bones and answer annoying questions from weird nine-year-olds and help people. Besides, the slow track wasn't exactly his thing anyways. That philosophy was what had him graduating high school at just sixteen and moving to Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island before his seventeenth birthday. He took their eight year degree program, obtaining his bachelors there (with a focus in the social sciences, specifically sociology) then moving directly onto medical school. He graduated a few months before he turned twenty four.

The distance was difficult for Dalton for most of those eight years; two weeks now and again to fly down to New Orleans and see family wasn't nearly enough time for someone who'd grown up around so many people. Studying was harder for the first few months because he couldn't plop the book down on the coffee table and listen to his family's noise while he read. Doing homework was harder for the first year or so because he couldn't bug one of his older siblings with questions about the math behind it or how his answer sounded. Socializing was hard simply because he hardly had time, what with projects and homework and studying and far too many classes than he should have taken, but he needed the contact with people badly enough that he'd skip sleeping some nights so he could socialize and get his work done. Energy drinks and the little plug in coffee machine one of his sisters, Naya, sent him for his birthday one year became godsends.

But, he did it, graduating magna cum laude with less than a dozen panicked calls to Naya or one of his other siblings in the middle of the night over those eight years. Dalton was quickly accepted into Brown's Family Medicine residency program and worked his way through internship and into the actual residency, impressing the program's head with his dedication. When time came for her to recommend candidates for the Mars Settlement program, she ended up putting Dalton's name on the the list and his impressive academic history is what earned him a spot on the staff. He accepted immediately, too excited by the idea of going to Mars to turn the opportunity down even though it meant leaving his (incredibly supportive) family behind.

Personality:
[+] Dedicated - Cal's one for commitment. He dedicates himself to his choices, to his opinions, to tasks he's given, to his lifestyle, to the people he associates with. Because of this dedication, he is a responsible person, is easy to label as a hard worker, and tends toward organization. Though, said organization does not make him a clean person, necessarily.
[+] Observant - For a muscular Army grunt who quite literally used to fight for a living, Callan pays surprisingly close attention to his surroundings and the people around him. He tends to notice the little details, like when someone's gotten a new haircut or seems to be in a better mood than usual, and this attentiveness grants him a knack for quickly understanding new concepts.
[=] Impatient - Callan is terrible at waiting. He dislikes being made to wait, he dislikes the actual process of waiting, he dislikes resolving a situation or obtaining something after such a massive waste of his time. He doesn't care much for surprises or for hint-dropping, either.
[=] Confrontational - If Cal has a problem with you or something you're doing, you're going to know about it from him and in person, if he can manage it. Beating around the bush and faking niceties are not skills he has or even wishes to learn. This also makes him something of a blunt person.
[-] Self-Destructive - With his...lovely...combination of a low self esteem and no small degree of self-hatred, Cal would be defined as self-destructive with how hard he pushes himself when working out or working in general, along with his incredibly cavalier attitude towards his own well being and any injuries he suffers.
[-] Cynical - Callan, on general principle and completely without exception, subconsciously assumes everyone he meets is either out to use him or can and will betray him at some point and behaves accordingly. He doesn't openly declare it, but this cynicism has a strong effect on how he interacts with others. It's not particularly easy to earn his trust but it's not particularly easy to lose it, either.
History:
Callan, in no uncertain terms, was born a "miracle child". His parents had been trying to conceive for more than two years with little success until Callan, and they would never have another child after him. His father was a retired boxer and a boxing instructor at a local gym, and his mother was the stay at home sort who desperately wanted grandchildren. Ever since he was young, there was always this pressure on Callan to do well in school, get an education, marry a nice girl, and settle down somewhere nice so his parents could spoil the children he'd undoubtedly have. Ever since he was young, he'd always thought that girls were weird and wanted little to do with them.

When Callan was seven, his father accepted the opportunity to become an up-and-coming boxer's personal trainer, and the family moved to the United States. Callan started taking his own lessons in boxing (and later, martial arts) fairly soon after the move. It was also fairly soon after the move that he met Rhys, an older boy who lived in their neighborhood. Rhys was the local troublemaker, prankster, and occasional bully, but he took a strange liking to the quiet, gangly Australian kid and the two made fast friends. Callan's parents tolerated their friendship; despite his misbehavior around the neighborhood, Rhys was always "an absolute angel" when with Callan. So, they stayed friends well into their teenage years, with Callan playing the smart and athletic half of their strange duo and Rhys playing the criminally minded bad boy. Rhys went to juvy on minor drug-related charges when Callan was just barely fifteen, and didn't get out until it was nearly Callan's sixteenth birthday. When he got back, he'd changed, especially in how he behaved around Callan.

It was on the evening of Callan's sixteenth birthday when Rhys whispered "this is so damn wrong" before kissing him for the first time. That kiss was the catalyst that caused their relationship to bloom in all kinds of unpleasant ways, quickly becoming both sexual and incredibly unhealthy. Callan was too afraid of losing his best friend to say no to anything Rhys wanted to do or try and Rhys took full advantage of that fact, even though he was utterly and entirely convinced their relationship was wrong, immoral, against God. He even attempted to convince Callan of the same, despite the fact he was pushing their relationship further and further and into darker and darker areas. Callan wasn't particularly difficult to convince, however. He'd been under pressure from his parents to be successful and have some grandkids since he was little; that kind of self-destructive thinking wasn't too far of a reach.

Between the crazy shit he was dealing with from Rhys and the pressure from his parents to keep his grades up, Callan turned to the only outlet he really had to blow off steam: his boxing lessons. His father praised his increased intensity and focus, claiming Callan had finally discovered his passion for the sport. Rhys praised his muscle and his skill, claiming that his talent for fighting was hot. Training became his new favorite pastime, right up there with messing around with machinery. Callan soon expanded his training into martial arts and into takedowns and improving his ground game, and by the time he was accepted to a local college that offered an engineering program, he was a fairly well-rounded and talented fighter. By his second semester of freshman year, Rhys had pushed him into actually fighting in some underground matches, and before the end of sophomore year he'd switched to online classes and had begun fighting semi-professionally. He graduated college at twenty three and chose not to pursue higher education, instead letting Rhys and his father talk him into focusing on a career in MMA.

At twenty five, Callan was doing quite well for himself, professionally. His win-loss ratio remained impressive, and there'd even been talk of bringing the young fighter into the UFC proper and putting him before a far wider audience. His parents were incredibly proud. His relationship with Rhys was as unhealthy and erratic and secretive as it had ever been, perhaps even more so due to the stress of an important upcoming fight and how fucking tired Callan was of their situation. They had a huge fight one night in July which ended when Rhys stormed out of Callan's apartment, more drunk than he should have been. Callan would find out in the morning that Rhys had hit a semi truck in the middle of the night and he'd passed before paramedics had even arrived on scene.

Callan spent months grieving and blaming himself, never quite able to explain the reason for his intense depression to his parents because his parents never knew what they were to one another. Then again, Callan hadn't known what they were, either, and as he gained distance from the hurt and perspective on all that Rhys had put him through and convinced him of, his grief shifted into something a lot more like self disgust. In a drastic effort to wipe the slate clean and find out who he actually was without such a controlling force in his life, Callan dropped his MMA career and enlisted in the Army only a couple of years later. Serve his country, see the world, get a grant towards the Masters degree he actually wanted...it sounded like the best option. But, thanks to his status as a minor celebrity and his exemplary performance in training, he ended up stationed at the Pentagon and was even offered a position on the crew of the Mars Settlement Project when one of the senior intelligence analysts withdrew her application. He accepted, figuring that maybe leaving Earth completely would help with some of the baggage he carried with him.

Callan struggles with bouts of depression and his self-destructive tendencies, both relating to the emotional and physical abuse he suffered from his ex. He's been given a prescription for depression medication and is under orders to check in with the PSMOs in the Cognitive division on a regular basis until he's cleared for regular service.

Asai is a relatively likable person. He's honest with how he feels, and the way he expresses and carries himself is open, like he has nothing to hide. When people talk to him he meets their eyes and pays attention- makes them feel special, like what they have to say matters to him. In turn, when he walks into a room its hard to miss. He has a presence that makes others listen, his melodic voice able to grab a crowd's fickle attention and make them see reason. Or rather, his reason.
He's a very opinionated person, rarely taking no for an answer and never letting people push him to the side. Part of him likes arguing with people, finds it a reasonable outlet when he can't fight them. Asai's vision of Mars is one he wants to build without compromise and although he doesn't want conflict within the colony he's going to do what it takes to make it happen. He's an action-oriented person who doesn't just stand around for things to get done but rather takes it into his own hands.
With people he's open but rarely intimate. He likes to talk shop, to get to know others' values and perspectives but when the conversation turns to his past he's deflective with anything deeper than his professional life. He's humorous, and although he doesn't take serious situations lightly he does like to make it seem like they are. He clicks the best with those who share his perspective on the world but have enough spunk to make good conversation. He's very passionate and dedicated to his job to an extent some would say is unhealthy because he sees it as not being separate from him, but a part of him. His work, his vision, his morals and ideals all culminate into Mars.

History:
Takashi was born in San Francisco, California to a notorious anthropologist of a mother and a contrastingly normal father. His mother had moved to America in order to better her job opportunities and expand further on her studies, bringing her husband with her. Around the age of 10 his mother was diagnosed and died of cancer far too swiftly for Takashi to really register the loss. His father, knowing little English, took a job as a constructor before succumbing to alcohol; to drown his sorrows Takashi supposed. After a particularly violent incident, the boy was turned over to child services and his father put in prison for the rest of his life.
From then on, he spent several years being bounced back and forth through the foster care system across the state. The lack of attention and love made him an angry child who lashed out at others, spoke little, made bad choices. He didn't really care for whose charge he was under, and the feeling was mutual. Eventually, he started getting involved in gangs- nothing too serious. Mostly teenagers who sold drugs and swung around pistols because they didn't have anything else going for them. Those years the thought that crossed his mind the most was, 'God, what am I doing here,'
And here could've been anywhere. Some back alley robbing someone who was around the same age, some drug house getting high, some tattoo parlor getting stupid shit inked on his skin because he honestly didn't think he'd live long enough for it to matter. Years later, he didn't so much regret it as laugh at it. It was more sad or pathetic than anything. He didn't attend school half of the time so despite his ridiculously high SAT scores his grades were miserable to even think about. Back then, he did have moments where he regretted it all. Where he thought about his mother, who had looked at him like he had all the potential in the world.

Yeah the potential to fuck it all up,
Eventually, the little punk got thrown to the wolves when a deal went south and his buddies left him to the cops. He had just turned seventeen and with the amount of product he had on him even being charged as a juvenile in the relatively liberal state of California was going to get him some years unless it was by some miracle of God. And apparently, God thought it was time to cut Takashi a break. The judge looked at his file, stroked his beard and with a strange southern drawl told him, 'Son, what are you doing here?'
The judge set him up for some program for bright kids who had bad breaks, trying to get them all on the right path again with the help of some college big-deals taking them under their wing or some bullshit like that. Takashi didn't buy it for a minute. That is until some fellow with a buzz cut and an obnoxious laugh basically grabbed him by the neck and whipped him into shape.
Alvarez had been a chemistry professor at CIT, kind of an asshole looking back on it now. But when he was talking science it was like there was nothing else in the world and yet it seemed to double in size at the same time. Everything clicked, made sense. Even Alvarez was taken aback by how quickly the kid learned his stuff, how innovative his ideas. Takashi was hooked. Sold.
Despite some bad run-ins with his old gang he managed to turn everything around. It was amazing what purpose could do for a person, everything seemed like it had a reason then. He studied his ass off, got his grades to look half-decent by the time the year was done, worked part-time as an intern under Alvarez in his labs where he got some hands-on experience, applied to countless scholarships, even managed a near perfect score on the SAT of a 1580. The day he received his acceptance letter into CIT was the happiest day in his life.
College life was even more intense. He didn't really bother interacting with others; not out of not wanting to but rather not having the time. It was like there was always something to do, and he could hardly burn out. He'd be waking up at seven am to go to class after crashing at three am because he was writing a twenty page essay on the history, role, and importance of the mitochondria. He'd decided to double major in chemistry and bio-engineering- although he was more passionate about bio-engineering than chemistry. He had gone with it out mostly because of Alvarez, but through the two he discovered a different passion. He learned about the concepts of terraforming, the idea of turning a cold desert into an Eden. The possibilities! It was a young mans fascination perhaps not with playing God, but pushing the boundaries of what it meant to be human. If they could transform a dead thing into something living through human rational and perseverance then what could they not do? They were, then, in a way divine.
After completing his masters in chemistry and bio-engineering, he went on to complete his doctorate in bio-engineering and picked up atmospheric science. He wrote his thesis on the theoretic effects of the lack of gravity in space on the human body intergenerationally and how they could avoid this type of issue, which would later be used by the MARS program.
As he did his thesis he thought about how, if in space humanity is changed physically, then why not socially too? If they became physically fundamentally different beings then what would that mean for their fundamental morals, politics, social structure? He had been enthralled by the thought of changing planets completely and had missed nearly forgotten that these planets would change them completely too. A type of symbiotic relationship, if not a twisted double-parasitism. No- they would no longer be human, he thought. A subspecies, perhaps. Terra major, Martia Minor. They would be aliens, strange and forever changed.
It was only a matter of times before something like the MARS program was realized after the first person landed on the red planet. When offered the chance to be a candidate for the initiative he had jumped on the opportunity.
'When obsessives are given the object of their desire, what do they feel?'
Breaking through Earth's atmosphere, one he had admired and studied so thoroughly, Asai had thought they must have been like chicks breaking through the shells of their egg. When the ship had steadied and the pressure had eased and he looked around to see the flushed faces of complete strangers he realized something. These strangers, who laughed and celebrated and embraced each other in amazement at the marvel of being alive were not strange at all. He had been wrong. The were people, maybe even the last people he'd ever know, not aliens, not fundamentally changed- not yet. In fact, as he had looked around the group of people who would become his family and friends, he thought to himself he had never seen anything more human.
