[BCOLOR=transparent]It's September 17, 2017 and after 260 days aboard the Atlas IV, you have reached Mars where you will aid in the creation of the first settlement in space. The inhabitants of the settlement are made up of three groups, the first being the Planetary Stability and Maintenance Officers (P.S.M.Os). PSMOs have are experts in scientific, medical and engineering maneuvers in order to preserve the well being of the rest of the inhabitants of the settlement as well as their new home on Mars.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent] The second group are the members of the Defense Team who volunteered to give up their lives on Earth to protect the Mars settlement. These brave men and women are trained in defensive, offensive and strategic combat. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]And finally, the last group to make up the settlement, are the civilians. The civilians are a sizeable group of healthy men aged 18 to 40 and women aged 18 to 35. These civilians have one of the most important duties of the settlement, and that duty is to produce a generation of human martians.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]During the course of your new life on Mars, you will create friendships, make enemies, have children. You'll petition for a more cohesive society or maybe you'll even try to usurp power from another group. The possibilities are endless![/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]But in the end, everyone will have to work together to fend off the attack of a bloodthirsty alien race who's only goal is to conquer the universe. (This part won't happen until way later though. I want you guys to get nice and comfy before the fire nation attacks conflict starts).[/BCOLOR]

Architecture and Layout
[BCOLOR=transparent]The settlement is encompassed of three domes connected by tunnels. Domes are also known as districts. There are three districts in the settlement; the civilian district, the military district and the PSMO district. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]A fourth dome is to be constructed soon for the upcoming human martian generation. Upon reaching two years of age, children will be taken to this dome to be educated and developed. They will of course return to their parents every evening but the majority of their upbringing will be up to the appropriate PSMOs.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]The domes are made of metallic glass alloy with lights affixed to ceiling. During the "day" the lights in the main dome (also known as the civilian district, are set to 80% brightness and at "night" they drop to 70%. Even if all civilians are asleep, the lights never fully turn off, but the lights in the living quarters of the civilians can be custom set to a different brightness. [/BCOLOR]Even if all civilians are asleep, the lights never fully turn off, but the lights in the living quarters of the civilians can be custom set to a different brightness.

The civilian district sits under a large clear dome, which is split into six triangular sections. The sections are as follows; the cafeteria, the rec center, the trades, the training station, the service station and the living quarters.
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]The [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]cafeteria[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] is where anyone can come for food. The cafeteria offers a wide variety of fruits, and vegetables as well as bread and legumes. Unfortunately, since livestock have not been cleared to reside in the settlement yet, protein is provided through legumes and protein supplement pills or shakes.[/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]The [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]rec center[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] [BCOLOR=transparent]is a gym and a rec center. It is complete with aerobic and strength exercise equipment, a pool table, six 46" flat screen tvs. The section also includes a library, lap pool and a rock climbing wall.[/BCOLOR][/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]The [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]trades station[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] is where civilians can obtain a business license, occupy one of the vacant shops or stands and trade their wares or legal services.*[/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]The [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]training station[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] is where civilians can take courses to better themselves and improve their abilities. This is also where civilians can take classes to become trainee PSMOs or Minutes.**[/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]The [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]service station[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] is where anyone can go to submit a complaint, request assistance or submit a suggestion.This is also where people can come to send pictures and letters to their loved ones. Obviously it will take the letter almost a year to reach Earth, but PSMOs have found that the act of doing so provides a pleasant satisfied feeling. In the future video chatting will be possible.[/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]Finally, the [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]living quarters[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] are where civilians reside in pairs. Each pair sleep in soundproof rooms. Room dimensions: 309 sq ft. master bedroom / 78 sq ft. bathroom. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]*See Economy.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]**See Military Information.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]To the left and right of the civilian dome are tunnels, that can only be accessed by either PSMOs (including trainee PSMOs) or the Military (or the Minutes) (or someone who has their keycard). [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]The left tunnel leads to the PSMO dome.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]PSMO's keep the settlement running smoothly and without err. They also look after the well being of all living organisms in the settlement. PSMOs are usually engineers, scientists, doctors, psychologists and other scientists in those strains. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]PSMO's do not carry any lethal weapons like the military but they can carry police grade tasers, although some prefer to rely on a military dispatch or bodyguard to protect them. In order to become a PSMO, one must have at least a masters in a science related degree. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]There are four subdivisions in the PSMO district; the [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]medical division[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent], the [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]cognitive division[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent], the [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]engineering division[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] and the [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]agricultural division[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]. The medical division's duties revolve around mending and evaluating the human body. The cognitive division deals with the mental health of the civilians, military and other PSMOs. It should be noted that it is not recommended for a cognitive PSMO to treat themselves. The engineering division deals with the inner and outer workings of the technical constructs of the settlement. And the last division, the agricultural division deals with the planting and maintaining of crops in the settlement. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]The PSMOs have a director for each division; Dr. Laurel Willard (medical), Dr. Tori Khan (cognitive), Dr. Miguel Reyes (engineering) and Dr. Abraham Rhodes (agricultural)[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]The right tunnel leads to the Military dome[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]The Military protect and uphold the law in the settlement. There are two subdivisions in the military districts; the Defense Team and the Minutes. The Defense Team consist of the documented soldiers sent from Earth to protect the Mars settlement. These soldiers have been trained in nearly all areas of combat, so that they may protect the settlement in the most effective fashion. All members of the defense team carry assault rifles and military grade cattle prods, as well as other weapons of their preference. Since there is no direct threat at the moment, the defense team are used to keep tabs on the Minutes or to assist and protect PSMOs. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]The Defense Team is led by three generals; Delilah Green, Marshall Dent and Samuel Argon. The Minutes are supervised by Major Khadijah Watkins.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]The Minutes are civilians who volunteered to assist the Defense Team with upholding the law. It should be noted that these civilians are not actual documented soldiers. These civilians are subjected to a series of mental health tests to evaluate their mental stability. These tests are reissued every six months. The Minutes wear clearly displayed silver badges to show that they are Minutes. They carry handcuffs, walkie talkies and nightsticks. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]If a Minute is reported or found abusing their power, they will be stripped of their rank, penalized by Major Watkins and never allowed to assume a Minute position ever again.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Settlement Rules [/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]Earth rules and Settlement rules are the same, save for a few tweaks.[/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]The assault of a another person will result in immediate incarceration within the military district and extensive psychological evaluations from appropriate PSMOs. The person will be released after six months but if said person gets in trouble again they will be banished from the settlement.[/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]Murder, whether it be accidental or intentional will result in execution within the 12 hours. [/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]Sexual assault will result in sterilization/castration and permanent custodial duties in the Military district or execution. This choice is up to the victim. [/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]Theft, vandalism and impersonating a PSMO/Military person will result in community service and psychological evaluation. [/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]Reneging of the pairing agreement will result in a psychological evaluation and depending on the circumstances, penalization or insertion into an alternative role.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Civilians who have appropriate suitability for various jobs will be reviewed and placed where they are needed and suited for. These appropriate civilians have first pick of jobs. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Jobs include:[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Cafeteria Workers[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Custodians[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Customer Service Agents[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Librarians[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Personal Trainers[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Educators [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]1[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Experiment Testers [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]2[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]((open to suggestions))[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]1 [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]Because civilians are chosen by mental and physical health not intelligence, some may not have received a complete education and so are given the opportunity to do so in the settlement.[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]2 [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]Experiment testers volunteer themselves to test out technological experiments, such as becoming temporary owners of robotic pets, vetting space exploration suits or testing out lunar cars that are being outfitted for Mars. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]
[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Economy[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Currency does not exist in the settlement, and trading is the means to acquire luxuries. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Basic necessities such as cafeteria food, medicine and clothing are provided, but if someone wishes to wear more unique clothing, get their haircut etc, they are encouraged to trade goods and or services to acquire those things.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]To prevent people from going back on their trading agreements, one may request a contract from the service station that all involved parties must sign. If not then the parties may proceed without legal documentation and if any issues arise the case can be taken to a Minute (if one party is getting violent) or the service station to make a case. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]The following [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]rules and regulations[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] should be followed by every civilian, PSMO and Military person.[/BCOLOR]

  • [BCOLOR=transparent]In order to establish a trading post or shop, a business license must be obtained by filling out Form 6d and submitting it to the service station. [/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]A trading post or shop is not necessary to trade however large amounts of floor space may not be occupied by a single person or a group wishing to trade multiple items and don't have a business license. [/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]It is illegal to trade sexual favors and acts for goods and services. [/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]Continuous reneging of a trade agreement may result in penalization. [/BCOLOR]
  • [BCOLOR=transparent]Cafeteria food should not be involved in a trade agreement, however specialty foods such as pastries or other food items not included in the cafeteria are exempt from this. [/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]
[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Technology[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]The majority of technology is the same as what is on earth (save for internet and cell coverage). TVs are available to use although the only channels are the video, DVD and rover live stream. There are an extensive amount of videos and DVDs to peruse as well as video games and consoles that don't require internet. The rover live stream is the stream coming directly from one of the five Mars rovers exploring the planet. This rover, Ginger was used to find the best spot for the settlement and is currently searching for a good spot for the upcoming fourth dome.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Computers are present on the settlement and are accessible in both rec centers or living quarters, however they do not have access to internet. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]At the moment a team of PSMOs are working on installing cell phone towers which should be able to connect to three roving satellites (Thor 9, Intelsat 26 and EchoStar 24), however since the technology is still being tested out, only the military and PSMOs can use it. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]
[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Weather[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]Mars is generally not a warm planet, so the PSMOs have set up a basic temperature and climate regulator in the main dome that keeps the temperature at 70 degrees/20 Celsius constantly. The temperature in the PSMO dome is 60 degrees/15.5 Celsius and the temperature in the Military dome is 75 degrees/24 Celsius. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]The only rain that occurs in the settlement is when the crops need to be watered. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]In order to distinguish between day and night, the light system switches from completely bright to slightly dim at 5:00 pm and remains at that setting until 6:00 am, when it returns to completely bright. Even if all civilians are asleep, the lights never fully turn off, but the lights in the living quarters of the civilians can be custom set to a different brightness. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]This should be a given, but naturally there is oxygen inside of all three domes and it's tunnels, however if you were to exit any of the domes, you would die a swift and most likely painful death.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Water[/BCOLOR]
[BCOLOR=transparent]As water cannot be sent through space, the settlement has a large supply of powdered water which the agriculture division of the PSMOs, turns into liquid through a series of careful purification processes involving silver. Water is kept in a large tank in the PSMO district and transported through a pipeline to the cafeteria for the civilians. Both ends of the pipe are insulated with silver to further prevent releasing tainted water. [/BCOLOR]

The Pairing System
Each civilian has been paired with a civilian of the opposite sex, and that pair's duty is to create at least one member of the future human martian generation.

The pairing system was established on Earth upon sign up for the journey to Mars. The pairs are based on personality compatibility, and gene factors.

The pairs are expected to engage in intimate relations within the first 100 days of being on the settlement, in order to produce children. Before the pair engages in relations, they will be given an enhancement pill from the PSMOs to give a greater chance for children.

When at least one child is produced (meaning that the pregnancy process is over and the child is born.) the pair may disband and pursue other relationships (heterosexual or same sex or none at all). Or the pair may stay together and try for other children or not at all.

PSMOs and Military personnel may not engage in unsafe relations due to the fact that the settlement cannot spare a vacancy at the moment.

Infants
Upon their entrance into the world, babies will be taken by PSMOs and monitored for their first 30 days to make sure they are healthy and able to live with their parents. Babies must be taken to a pediatrician every 60 days for a check up, until they reach two years old.

Children
[BCOLOR=transparent]Upon reaching the age of two years old, a child is to attend school in the fourth dome (it should be finished by that time). Parents are to bring the children to the entrance of the PSMO tunnel at 7am and from there a PSMO trainee will take the child through the PSMO dome to the fourth dome where the child will begin to be educated and developed. They will of course return to their parents every evening at 5pm but the majority of their upbringing will be up to the appropriate PSMOs.[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Inside this fourth dome, children will be provided with a stimulating curriculum so that they may become their best possible selves. They will be given wearable devices used to monitor their health as they explore their environment. They will be given lessons in motor skill development, creative pursuits and STEM. They will also be given an hour for napping, an hour for free time and an hour for lunch. Lunch will be held in the civilian cafeteria, so that children may reconnect with their parents and other members of the settlement. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]As they age, children will be encouraged to become independent by being given more and more freedom. This will start after the first month of class when the children aged 4 and above are allowed to travel from the PSMO tunnel to the fourth dome, by themselves. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]When the children reach the age of ten years old, they will be exposed to various careers seven days a week. (Ex: A day shadowing a PSMO medical, the next shadowing a librarian, the next shadowing a Defense Team soldier etc.) The child will be able to pick and choose what career they would like to sample and eventually when they turn thirteen, they will become a trainee in whatever career they liked the most. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Children do not receive grades and instead receive reviews of their behavior and progress. These reviews are given to their parents, although if a review is bad it is not expected for the parent to act although they can. [/BCOLOR]
