  • "When the King falls, and what was once green turns red, I shall stir.

It shall be on the day that dogs bark, and birds flee,
the clocks shall stop ticking, the age of the once fallen will arise.

Watch for my blessings of my children, and you will be blinded.
Listen for the rumors of my blessings, and you will become deaf.

On the day that Life and Death greet one another, hand in hand,
a child will be lost- yet alas, they will not.

With the rising of the new god, comes the decrepit loss of tradition.
The lands will turn to rust, the clock will start once more, and my children will strike.

On the day that the sun becomes the moon, I will rise.

And my anger will rage across the land,
my rage shall burn everything I love,
it will make the sun shiver,
it will cause the waters to freeze over,
it will bring Death himself to my knees.

Only then, will immortality become nonexistent,
    as shall mortality,
with Time being my only witness."

    - The Almighty Goddess Zycie, at her deathbed.

  • "Long ago, the world lived under the rule of the Almighty Zycie, a woman blessed by the Earth.

She was said to have eternal beauty, more wisdom than even the all-seeing seers, and the power of the most feared depths of hell.

Zycie was placed upon her golden throne by the people, who worshipped almost everything about her- for in their eyes, there was not a more perfect being in both the living and unliving realms.

...but they all overlooked a single flaw- a flaw which could only bring about their downfall.

You see, with all this praise and worship and everything, Zycie was always under extreme pressure. Externally, she was the most graceful, the most kind, the most wise of all.

But internally, she was driving herself to the point of madness.

Sensing this within herself, the Goddess did two major things before stepping down from the throne. She made it known that all the women of all species would now be rare to find...and that families shall only ever have a maximum of two children.

With this said, all families with more than two offspring had banished all but their eldest two children from their families. The ones who didn't...witnessed a great tragedy.

The second thing was her prophecy, told only to the high priest Kostucha-- the only mortal ever said to also be a lover of the Goddess. With the knowledge that the Goddess didn't know when she would return to the waking world, the two lovers made a vow.

For as long as Zycie slept, the elven priest Kostucha would never age a day more.
For as long as Kostucha stayed within the temple, no tragedy would occur that involved her or her disciples.

Ultimately, this lead the priests of the temple of Zycie to shut their doors to the world, only to open once more for the chosen ones."

    ...

"A century passed, and the tragic tale of Zycie and Kostucha became just that-- a story. The Hilldew family became our royal family, three generations of wise human kings passing away...and the current generation becoming nothing more than a tyrant, corrupted by the new "priests" and their creation of the "God" named Rozmyte Hilldew.
This God has done nothing but take from the people, according to my sources...and he has already forsaken the wisdom of Zycie, seeing her as nothing more than a myth. However, his priests do not brush the story off so quickly--they already know of the existence that is "Zycie's Children".

...and they'll do anything and everything to stop them from awaking the Goddess."

And that's where you guys come in! As the "blessed children" of Zycie, each and every one of you has felt a calling that lead you to this temple.

Some of your characters may know each other, others could be complete strangers, but the only thing that they all notice right away is that something within them causes belief that none of you are foes.

But, you didn't think awakening the Goddess would be an easy feat...did you?

  • In this world, four main species coexist with one another peacefully. Of course, there are a multitude of monsters and beasts that live in this world-- and as our group of adventurers hear of and/or interact with said creatures, this list will be updated.

    Sentient (playable) Species:

    Humans

There's the Humans, although the quickest to die, are also the most tenacious amongst the species. With their quick reproduction, they can be found all over- though a majority of the human population is centered around the capital Zeffari- home to the royal family- along with the surrounding towns.
    Elves

The Elves, known for their cunning minds and vast knowledge, sadly aren't the best with following social standards. Most Elves make their home in the forests and jungles of the world, up in the treetops. Although, this only refers to the Elves who decide to settle down in one place-- many other Elves make the most of their lives by traveling all over the lands, stricken by a severe case of wanderlust in some cases.
    Dwarves

The Dwarves, small in size, are considered the species with the most pizazz, if you know what I mean. Populating the inside of large mountains, and building marvelous cities on sheer cliff-sides, it's no wonder that most dwarves have a (sometimes over-the-top) sense of pride amongst themselves.
    Giants

Finally, the Giants, averaged at a height of 9 feet, are the most heart-felt out there. With their large buildings and intriguing villages in the grassy plains, some like to think of them as simple-minded. Although, those who attempt to take advantage over the sincere and curious nature of these large folk...usually end up getting themselves into trouble anyhow.

    ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
    Insentient (unplayable) Species
    Fairy

A species that's been considered as endangered-- and by now, extinct-- our group comes across a single fairy when they reach the Temple of Zycie.

Fairies are labeled as different "categories", usually matching with their alignment with the earth. Fire Fairies could heat up even the coldest of permafrost, Water Fairies could part great lakes with a simple question, and etcetera etcetera...

The exception of this great power, is that they can never reproduce-- leaving them without any sort of bonding instincts for the rest of their immortal lives. But, due to their small size, it's extremely easy to kill them once you find out their alignment. Drown a Fire Fairy, burn a Water Fairy at a miniature stake.

Fairies are highly valued amongst the world, as they have the potential to make any magic item as powerful as they wish with their enchantments. Because of this rumor, the poor species used to be on the market at prices one wouldn't even dare to imagine.

Keep in mind, nobody has actually seen a fairy since the last one died during the reign of Rodrick Hilldew--and that was about half a century ago.

  • As the group travels to and/or learns of new places, this list will be updated.

    Zeffari
A walled fortress of a city, it's directly in the middle of the single continent which makes up the world. Legend says that the Goddess Zycie helped create this architecturally-sound location in order to provide a safe place amongst the Home to many, it's extremely overcrowded with the human population. There are 3 main walls that categorize the city into multiple layers. Each wall houses a single gate, always open to the public, yet also guarded by the Zaffari Guards.

The outermost layer lies in between the perimeter and the first wall, and is populated by few farms and many slums. A large portion of the Zaffari human population lies here, as feeble farmers and uneducated slum folk. Though, there are few who aren't doing so poorly in this layer-- specifically, the Recreational Nightclubs, and "Rabbit's Foot" houses. There's a reason this is referred to as the "district of pleasure" within the city.

The second layer of the city lies between the first wall and the second wall, and is home to many merchant guilds and middle-classed citizens. Overall, it's the shopping district of Zeffari...and also the perfect place to find information.

The third layer of the city lies between the second wall and the final wall, and its inhabitants consist mainly of the rich and aristocrats of the population. With a multitude of privately hired security, many parties take place in this smaller layer of the city. Most importantly, the main Temple of Rozmyte Hilldew is located here within the spiffy and richly-decorated section of Zefarri.

The final layer is simply the Hilldew castle, home of the royal family, the newly-crowned "head priest" and their multitude of servants.
    Temple of Zycie

An old, decrepit temple found a few kilometers south of Zeffari, at the base of a mountain. The external appearance of the temple is overran with weeds and ivy. A waterfall from the mountain can be seen landing behind the building.

Inside, the building is still old, yet well-kept. The ground and walls are made from stone, cracks of old age seen among them, and many rooms lie on multiple levels. Throughout the hallways and rooms, one can always find some sort of imagery depicting a beautiful woman.

There is a large banquet hall, another large room that's unfurnished--with the exception of a colossal statue of a woman, wearing marble robes and holding a goblet-like cup.

There are stairs leading both to the second floor above ground, and numerous floors below. The second floor above ground is prohibited to be gazed upon--as it is the level that Kosbucha's closest priests inhabit.

What lies in the first floor beneath the ground are rooms for sleep and personal prayer...but past that, only the priests know.

  • Here lies the character sheet used for this roleplay. Anything marked with an asterisk is optional, and it doesn't have to be in the exact order I put it in here.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask!
(Also, I stole the idea from Sansa's Ultimate Character Sheet, just so we're clear.)
And Remember! Pictures are your best friends...so try to use at least one, please?

    Relationships Section
(In this section, briefly describe how your character would react to the other characters. If you work together with the other users and come up with some backstory involving your character and another, it would be best to put it in here. Examples of these relations could be siblings, lovers, and/or best friends.)
    [/fieldbox]

  • Here are some nitty-gritty details that are set in stone about this roleplay...that don't necessarily belong to any specific category. Some of these can be really important for character creation and world-building...so don't skip them please!

    Blessings

The whole concept of the Children of the Goddess is that they each have one "blessing" that will help them in the future. Sometimes this comes in the form of powerful magic, or extraordinary sense-enhancement, or...eternal beauty, and stuff.

But this blessing doesn't come without it's cost. As payment for being born with this innate gift, some terrible tradgedy must befall each Child. The death of a loved one, never being able to fall in love...the tragedy must balance out how powerful the gift is.

So, in your character sheet, please write out a blessing , along with a curse befitting of your blessing. Note that I will have to accept it, so try not to make it too outrageous.
    Inventory

As our adventurers travel throughout the lands, sometimes they will come across items that have usefulness--

--What is this, a role-playing game?!?

...Anyhow, each character will have an "inventory" section, which basically lists what junk they picked up during the course of their adventure. This section will be updated regularly in your Character Sheets. But since I'm not going to limit how much each character can hold, whatever your character currently has in their inventory is available to be stolen, lost, and/or damaged during the course of the story.

"But Raven, what if there's something really important in our inventory, and it gets stolen/lost?"

That, my friends, is what Siri is for.
    Siri

Siri was created by the Goddess to escort her Children.

Blessed with Space Magic, she can act as a storage unit, shrinking down items until they can fit in her item sack. The only problem with this is that using this magic greatly exhausts her after a certain number of uses.

So, with that in mind, Siri prefers to use her magic only when the group gets to a populated area. That way, the group gets to do their shopping, and she has enough time to recover her energy on the trip to the next town. Of course, she can use her magic a couple of times in between these trips, but it will take some persuasion...

Siri also can take on a human form, in the off-chance she gets separated from the group. In this form, she cannot use any magic, and she's incredibly fragile. If she takes on substantial damage, she will revert to her original form...unconscious.
    Magic

Throughout the course of the story, our group will encounter magic.
In this world, one is either blessed with the innate power to harness and direct the natural energy surrounding them, or they use artifacts.

This "natural energy", invisible to the eye, is something akin to the life-force of the earth- and follows the law of conservation of energy: that is to say, you cannot create or destroy this energy, but only transfer it.

Artifacts are defined as "any ordinary object that possesses magical power". It can be as ordinary as a lantern that never loses its light, or as complicated as an amulet that lets you transfer your soul into a smaller, inanimate object. Overall, they do the work for you, but at a price.

For example, that lantern? It only works if it's being held at all times. And that amulet? It would only have a certain amount of uses per day. There are certain exceptions to this rule-- one being if it was enchanted by a fairy, or any other creature that has the ability to use enchantments.

  • Now, for the fun part.

    1) Try to post at least one paragraph, at least once a week. There's no posting order, so unless you're double-posting, you won't have to worry about much.

    2) Don't be a major butt in the OOC, please. We're all here to have fun, so it really shouldn't be too much to ask that we keep all IC drama within the IC.

    3) To show that you've read this far, please pick a color (like blue , for example) for your character and list it somewhere in your CS.

    4) Remember, we're a mixed group here. Cussing and violence is A-Okay, but try not to do the undercover boogie or the bedroom twister anywhere here.

    5) Finally, HAVE FUN!

    7) To show that you've read all of these rules, please finish and place this sentence in the INVENTORY SECTION of your CS.

"I'm prepared to make a sacrifice to the Goddess in exchange for..."

she loves touching things. if you tell her not to touch something, it'll just make her want to touch it even more. if there's a single thing with texture in the same room as sibyl, she'll be all over it.
sibyl is constantly adjusting and fixing her bangs.
she is something of a little brat. she pouts, begs, pleads, and acts like a child.
even if her fringe covers her eyes, she constantly keeps them closed. while she has no ability to see from them anyway, it is a personal preference that her eyes are wide shut.
she is somewhat of a kleptomaniac and often picks up random items wherever she may be. a shiny bell? tucked into her pocket. a soft toadstool? that's her new toy!

Wᴀʀᴅʀᴏʙᴇ
the young elf has no need to buy clothes, when she could simply divine the clothing off of someone else's back! she is renowned for trading fortunes for shoes, clothes, and the like.
sibyl is a fan of layering earth-colored clothing on. socks under boots, culottes under skirts, long sleeve under short sleeve.
while she is known to make any combination of clothing work, she mostly sticks with her favorites: a large, chunky scarf under a short-sleeved cloak. a medium-sleeved dress, with thick socks and bulky boots.
Mɪsᴄᴇʟʟᴀɴᴇᴏᴜs ᴀᴄᴄᴇssᴏʀʏ
a large, oversized witch hat, covered with various flowers and leaves.
a bulky backpack, which she uses to carry her tent and her business.
various jewelry items-- beads on string, crystals on chains, etc.
Pʀᴏᴛᴇᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ Eǫᴜɪᴘᴍᴇɴᴛ
a jagged, rusty knife.
her divining wand, and the small amount of magic she knows.
Mᴏsᴛ Pʀɪᴢᴇᴅ Pᴏssᴇssɪᴏɴ
a large, rusty medallion in the shape of an eye attached to a dilapidated gold chain. the surface that makes up the sclera is ridged and coarse, while the iris of the eye is as smooth as a drop of gold and free of any imperfections, regardless of the number of free-falls it has taken.
this pendant alone is how she is able to see. if the chain breaks (which it does quite often), she relies on her own abilities without the amulet.
Mᴏsᴛ Vᴀʟᴜᴀʙʟᴇ Pᴏssᴇssɪᴏɴ
her eye-shaped pendant. while it looks old and worthless, the golden iris is actual, pure gold that turns up a pretty penny.
Aʟʟᴏᴡᴀɴᴄᴇ
about one hundred or so gold coins saved in various places. about ten in her sock, another five in a herbs bag, another six here, four more there.
Iɴᴠᴇɴᴛᴏʀʏ

various crystals of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
blankets wrapped up within the bundle she keeps her tent in.
her complimentary coin pouch!

"Hello there. How can I help you?"
[fieldbox=Siri , pink , solid , 10]
General Section
Name: Siri
Sex: Female
Race: Fairy
Age: N/A
Birthday: N/A
Color: Pink

Appearance Section
Height: 5" (optional height: 4'0)
Weight: 3 lbs. (optional weight: 67 lbs.)
Body Frame: Flat, and straight
Skin Tone: Pale
Eye Color: Blue, with a hint of turquoise
Hair Color: Blond
Hair Type: Thick hair, which frames her face nicely with loose waves. It manages to reach her ankles in length.
Features: Her wings start at the lower sections of her back, a dark navy background with a multitude of blue highlights in many shades. Small white speckles accent the veins and edges of said wings.

Personal Section

Likes:
Chocolate:
Honestly there isn't anything Siri wouldn't do for the delightfully delicious delicacy that is chocolate...which makes it a secret weakness.
Adventure: Siri loves a good adventure! Seeing new sights, meeting new friends, tasting new chocolates...what's there not to love?

Jewels: It's cliché , but there's this strange fascination of all things colorful and shiny that Siri just can't seem to rid herself of.

Dislikes:
Spicy Food:
Peppers, extreme spices, and entering the depths of hell with your tastebuds? No thanks, Siri would rather suck a lemon slice.
Water: Being a flying creature, it's hard not to dislike water, as her wings will be utterly useless if they got wet.

Fears:
Snakes:
Honestly, Siri doesn't even know why she has an intense phobia about the legless creatures, with their unhinging jaws and...poisonous bites and...scary looking tongues...

Quirks: Sometimes, she'll narrate the events that go on- like they're in a story, or something... Weird, right?

Hobbies: She doesn't do much but zip around and talk. Oh, and supposedly she's able to sense the Goddess's presence.

Skills:
~When in a dark environment (e.g. a cave, pitch-black desert, inside of a beast) , Siri's wings will emit a faint white light- similar to the stars at night.
~Like all fairies, Siri has the ability to enchant any artifacts she comes into contact with. This basically means that any usage limitations will be neutralized, leaving the artifact as purely full of merits for the user...but, she cannot take back this enchantment, and it's permanent.

Blessing: Space Magic...basically makes her a walking-talking storage unit. Also, with it she can take on a human form-- her wings fold up beneath her clothes with a bit of concentration.

Morality: Like a small child, Siri has a hard time distinguishing what is "right" versus "wrong"...however, she isn't stupid. If something doesn't feel right to her, she'll just assume it as "wrong" or "bad". As such, she's somewhat good at judging characters...somewhat being the key word.

Etiquette: The fairy girl just sticks around and observes the group of the "Goddess's Children" who she is supposed to be guiding- asking questions when both appropriate and unnecessary.

Attitude: Siri is the most talkative, most childlike, most annoying creature to ever pop out of the temple...but she doesn't think so. Always asking questions about the most irrelevant of subjects, it's no wonder the priest stated that the adventurers' journey would be filled with trials...Siri's mouth is probably the biggest of them all.

Perception: The fairy likes to point things out in an obvious manner, always stating what the group already knows--and sometimes adding on small details the group might miss.

Philosophy: "The world? It's like a bitch!" "...A bitch is a type of sweet, right?"

Inventory Section
"I'm prepared to make a sacrifice to the Goddess in exchange for...Chocolate!"

Wardrobe: Siri is content in wearing the all-white dress she found herself in when she woke up,

Miscellaneous accessory: Siri carries an item bag, an umbrella/flotation device in the form of an Astilboides leaf, and a gold pouch which ties to her bag securely.

Protective Equipment: She has a single silver spoon, which will grow/shrink in size as she wishes.

Most Prized Possession: Her Spoon!

Most Valuable Possession: Whatever gold she is given to carry.

Allowance:

Inventory:
-Item bag
-Astilboides Leaf-Umbrella (also, flotation device)

-Gold pouch
-Silver Spoon

History Section

Backstory:
Dark, Darker, Yet Darker...

Siri doesn't remember much of before she was awakened, the only thing she remembers was seeing this simply beautiful woman, who told her a few things about where she was, and what she would have to do when she did wake up.

Then...a small light took her away, and she found herself in this old temple.

Curse: "I'd rather not talk about that, if you don't mind..."

Relationships Section

Joan Raylen Drazelan - "Joan's just weird."
Siri doesn't really understand such things as "motherly bonds" and such, so if Joan were to ever demonstrate such bonds with the fairy...nothing would happen, really. It'd just be plain weird to Siri.

Sibyl Moejeon - "Sibyl's funny-looking, and she can't see very well, but she also has a BUNCH of crystals! So, she can't be that bad."
It'll take a while (and a lot of "look at this Sibyl!") before Siri gets used to the elf's condition. But, it doesn't become a cause of pity for the fairy, so she treats Sibyl basically the same as everyone else.

Matrole Greensun - "Mat's big! Like, SUUUUUPERRR BIIIIG!"
Being a tiny creature, it's only natural that Siri would hold a curiosity for all things large...but things that are extremely large? Well, that's just a borderline obsession that Siri will probably phase through within the first week. But, he has a bunch of cool little thingy-mabobbers!

Lucio Röloelon - "Lucio feels...familiar."
The fairy can't explain why, but his appearance alone makes her heart race...and not in a pleasant manner. As such, she doesn't touch him-- at all.

Ashina Ashart - "Ashina's really pretty--but she's also really scary."
To Siri, Ashina is by far the most intimidating out of the group...mostly because she seems to ignore Siri whenever she speaks? But in return, the fairy has a mischievous streak with this girl-- as she's constantly trying to pull down the hood Ashina keeps up.

Aurelion Elios - "Lion's smaller than the rest of them...but he's bigger than me?"
Despite his secretiveness, Siri doesn't think of him as a "bad" guy. Just...confused? No, misguided? Nah....weird? Yep, definitely weird.

Cecil Hymn - "Cecil's really nice- she's always trying to keep the atmosphere light!"
As she enjoys the little tunes the human seems to occasionally create on the spot, Siri tries not to hover directly behind Cecil...instead hovering above the girl.

Turvan Burntsteel - "Turvan's always laughing! He's also a great storyteller...even if most of the time I don't understand his jokes!"
Because of Siri's child-like attitude, she's extremely fascinated by whatever stories the dwarf has to share- though, she doesn't understand much of the "funny" part. Overall, he seems like a jolly guy to the fairy.

"What, you don't think I'm serious?"

[tabs]
[tab=General]Name: Joan Raylen Drazelan
Other Names: None yet, though feel free to give her some.
Sex: Female
Age: 24
Race: Elf
Birthday: November 23rd[/tab]
[tab=Appearance]Height: 6 foot 1
Weight: 176 pounds

Body Frame: Athletic, on the skinny side
Skin Tone: Light brown

Eye Color: Greyish-green
Hair Color: Dirty blonde
Hair Type: Thick and curly

Features: She's got all sorts of little scars from working outdoors. Things that stand out are a long, thin scar going up her left arm, a jagged scar on the back of her left hand, a gash on her right palm, and a line on her chin. She walks with a tall, erect posture. She's also been occasionally mistaken for a man.[/tab]
[tab=Personal]Likes: Tangy flavors, coming up with plans, learning new things, and the wilderness.
Dislikes: People flirting with her, people acting "stupid", cowards, manipulation, coconuts, and alcohol.
Fears: She has claustrophobia and is scared of being completely alone.

Quirks: She tends to fiddle with just about anything lying near her.

Hobbies: She knows how to work leather and how to sew. She can craft decent weapons and armor and repair weapons, armor, and bags. She also sketches.

Skills: She learns quickly, especially when it comes to anything to do with combat. She can pick up a weapon and learn how to use it very easily. She's also good at keeping her head together in a crisis, and she can be quite intimidating when she wants to be.

Blessing: She has telekinetic abilities. She lift and move objects, including herself. She can also form barriers and simple objects. This is accomplished through manipulation of a semi-solid mist that draws its power from her own life force and the energy around her. Big bursts and forming anything solid can severely weaken her or kill her.

Morality: The world's a messed-up place, and she knows it. However, she believes she can make it better, and she has dedicated much of her life to that. She takes this very seriously and is unwilling to compromise her morals.

Etiquette: She is always striving to make the world a better place. As a result, she tends toward helping others in need. She gets kind of ticked off when people take a serious situation lightly and will probably snap at them.

Attitude: She is generally extremely serious with a dash of sarcasm. She often acts a little like a mother, which in this case means she is overprotective and is far more willing to put herself in harm's way than let somebody else get hurt. She can also tend to scold.

Perception: "Um, it's got water in it? That's good even if it isn't full to the brim, right? Better than empty, anyway." She tends to find the good in a situation while still keeping awareness of how it could be made better or worse. If the situation is just completely bad, well, it can still be better.

Philosophy: "It's a messed up world, but somebody has to fix it, and nobody else seems to be volunteering."

Color:
Green [specifically #447733] [/tab]
[tab=Inventory]Wardrobe: She tends to wear lightweight combat gear in colors that blend with the wilderness and, occasionally, a hooded cloak. Her outfits generally cover every inch of her except for her head and fingertips.
Miscellaneous accessory: A knapsack, a locket that matches her eyes, and a black string bracelet.
Protective Equipment: A reinforced leather breastplate, a pair of spiked boots, and a bow and arrows.
Most Prized Possession: Her locket, though the backpack and boots are tied for second place.
Most Valuable Possession: The boots.
Allowance: She has around five hundred gold coins in her pouch for easy access and roughly two thousand more stored in various places on her person.
Inventory:
-A knapsack full of survival gear
-A greyish-green locket containing some pictures
-A black string bracelet
-A reinforced leather breastplate and the rest of a set of armor
-A pair of boots
-A bow and arrows
-A couple sets of clothing
-A coin pouch

"I'm prepared to make a sacrifice to the Goddess in exchange for friends who will always have my back."[/tab]
[tab=History]Backstory: She's spent most of her life in the wilderness with her two older brothers. She had parents, but she never knew them. Her brothers tell her that the Drazelan family used to live in a majestic city that was attacked and destroyed by a marauding army. She and her brothers never spent much time in one place and were always on the move. For the past four years, she's been on her own. Her brothers both died: one was killed fighting bandits, while one died of sickness.

Curse: Her entire family is dead. Two of them, her brothers, died in front of her, and she was unable to do anything to help them. Oh, and one more thing. She has to siphon life force and/or energy in order to stay alive. She can do it continuously and only draw in a bit at a time, or she can siphon huge amounts at a time and wait for a while between bursts. She generally goes with the first option, but will siphon a large amount in an emergency. [/tab]

[tab=Relationships]Siri: "She's kind of cute, to be honest." While Siri's constant questions and naivety can be a little...well, annoying, the motherly part of Joan also finds it slightly endearing. As a result, she'll answer the fairy's questions when nobody else will. Plus, who doesn't like a walking storage unit?

Ashina Ashart: "What is that girl's deal, anyway?" Maybe she's just prejudiced, but Ashina seems to irritate Joan in just about any way possible. Ashina's apathy, impossible beauty, and self-servingness all combine to make somebody that Joan finds herself often wishing she could smack upside the head sometimes. She refrains from doing so because, for one thing, she hopes against hope that Ashina will change...and, though she hates to admit it, that girl is actually pretty good with a blade when it comes down to it, and they'll probably need that skill.

Sibyl Moejeon: "She's smart and can handle herself, and that's good." Sibyl may be blind and somewhat childish, but that hasn't stopped her making a life for herself, and Joan respects that. She doesn't always agree with the girl's methods, but she understands that sometimes you have to do what you have to do to survive.

Matrole Greensun: "He's...interesting, in a good way." Joan finds Mat fascinating. His interesting and unique points of view are often thought-provoking, when they aren't just plain confusing. She'll be fine with him as long as he keeps any secrets he hears to himself...which probably won't happen. She might even try to have a philosophical discussion or two with him.

Aurelion Elios: "Ehh...bit of an extremist, but I can respect that, I guess." While Joan doesn't necessarily agree with Aurelion's methods, she can see that he is also trying to make the world a better place in his own way. She'll try to give him a metaphorical nudge if his methods go too far into the extreme, but she'll mostly just leave him alone.

Turvan Burnsteel: "Do we really need this guy? I mean, come on, all he talks about is breaking and killing things!" Turvan is another person that gets on Joan's nerves just about every time he opens his mouth. His constant desire for destruction and chaos are things she just can not understand. Depending on her mood, she flip-flops between trying to avoid him as much as possible and snapping at him, but she does try to avoid getting in all-out fights with him. Not that she doubts her ability to handle him or anything, but he was sent on this quest too, and they'll probably need him before this is over...and, yeah, okay, his infinite durability is a little worrying.

Cecil Hymn: "She's like a little shining gem in the darkness of the world. We need more people like her." Joan sees Cecil as a wonderful, if slightly naive young woman. Her kindness, constant optimism, and desire to help others remind Joan that there is, in fact, still good in the world, no matter how messed up it gets. If she had a child, she would probably want it to be like Cecil, and because of this, she will do anything to protect her.

Lucio Röloelon: "Sure, he's a little on the apathetic side, but he's smart and respectful and nowhere near as awful as some members of this party, and he seems to have a good heart. He's cool." His slight apathy does irritate Joan, but Lucio, or Röl, is somebody she can understand and live with. He's got a good head on his shoulders and seems to respect everybody for who they are, and that's good. She admires that. Mostly, she'll just hope for the good in him to show itself more often, and she'll either give him his space or try talking with him every now and then. Either works.

"Take what's mine and I'll take your head."
Ashina Ashart
Princess | Heir of the Split Rose | Bladedancer
Female / 20 / May 3rd / Human

  • Emerald eyes and platinum blonde hair, set in a heart-shaped face, creates a mesmerizing effect for either sex. Ashina's beauty, one of a youthful, fairy-esque innocence, is something that captivates all. Her hands are soft, fingers slender, while her back is always perfectly straight. She walks with a graceful air around her, an angel striding amongst white roses. And yet, there is an inexplicable sense of 'isolation' within those eyes, even as she smiles and laughs. Her beauty is flawless, faultless, a porcelain doll crafted by a sculpter of unrivalled skill. And it is a beauty that she can not rid herself of.

    Height: 5'4
    Weight: 44kg

    Body Frame: Slender
    Skin Tone: Pale

    Eye Color: Emerald
    Hair Color: Platinum Blonde
Hair Type: Long, reaching down to her waist. In formal occasions, it is bundled up into twintails. In every day life, she lets it loose. When expecting combat, she ties it back into a single ponytail.

Features: Her only noticeable physical feature is her completely unblemished skin and her lack of scars or calluses.

  • Likes: Masks, Fresh Milk, Scented Fans, White Roses, Swordplay, Masquerade Balls, Arguments
Dislikes: Dogs, Upper Class Social Events, Championing Another's Cause, Alcohol, Being Unarmed
Fears: Marriage, Deep Waters, Dark Nights,

Quirks: When she can get away with it, Ashina wears a long hood over her head, and lets her bangs hang over her eyes, obscuring as much of her face as possible.

Hobbies: Dancing, Early Morning Strolls, Sparring

    Skills:
Seduction and Persuasion – Ashina doesn't like it, but she's willing to use her blessing to get what she wants if necessary. With the right people, she can get a lot done for just a kiss on the cheek.

Split Rose Sword Style – Wielding two rapiers, Ashina overwhelms with skill and prediction rather than physical ability, her seamless technique overcoming strength and speed.

Performance – Though her beauty is devastating, it becomes a force of nature when she puts her body into motion. Her dances mesmerize and fascinate, an ever-evolving work of art.

    Blessing:
    Angel of Ash and Art
Ashina is improbably beautiful, her appearance the type to captivate all who see her face. This is not eternal youth, but the blessing to stay beautiful regardless of age. As a child, she was so adorable that her parents allowed her to get away with everything. As a young lady, she has already given up on remembering the faces of every suitor who courts her.

Morality: Ashina sees everything in varying degrees of 'bad', because her ideals of 'good' are so high up that it usually isn't attained. She seeks something utopian, but has resigned herself to a lower standard regardless. Good, for Ashina, is impossible, so she doesn't try, and just serves her own self-interests when it comes down to it. The Goddess is dead, so why does it even matter?

Etiquette: Ashina refuses to lift a finger if someone else wants her help, especially if she doesn't benefit from it. And, considering how everyone around her is shallow scum, she doesn't have much interest in interacting with them either. Being adored is fine, but the adoration others have for her will rarely be reciprocated.

Attitude: Conceited and cold, Ashina acts like the Princess that many call her as, always going 'hmph' and turning her nose up at whatever disdainful suggestion was made towards her. Though she is accustomed to getting her way, she enjoys people who put up resistance more, if only because it's fun, aggressively, verbally sparring with them. She wants to be the aggressor, the one in the dominant position, at all times, and loathes to have to be servile to others. Her demands are plenty, and she ignores anything she doesn't want to hear, but, in the end, when it comes to protecting her 'property', she will muster up everything she has to do so.

    A Lioness, perhaps.

Perception: "I don't care if the glass is half empty or half full. I'm drinking from it first." Ashina doesn't approach situations positively or negatively. She approaches them by considering how she can serve herself the best in such a situation.

Philosophy: "Everyone only cares about themselves, so I'll do the same."

  • "I'm prepared to make an offering to the Goddess for something that can not be bought."

Wardrobe: Ashina wears combat-ready dresses, made of tough materials, so that she can look fashionable even amidst the carnage. Then, she wears a large cloak over all that so she doesn't attract unwanted attention from low-born hedonists.

Miscellaneous accessory: White Rose Hairpin, Ashart Family Crest, Engagement Ring

Protective Equipment: Twin rapiers with ornate basket hilts and a steel breastplate, gilded with gold.

Most Prized Possession: A masquerade mask with a fox motif.

Most Valuable Possession: The Ashart Family Crest.

Allowance: Ashina essentially has a fortune. But it's a fortune that she can not use.

Coin Purse with an absurd amount of gold
    Two Rapiers
    Ashart Family Crest
    Fox's Masquerade Mask
    Two spare changes of clothing.
    Sewing Kit
    Whetstone
A Jar of Expensive Tea Leaves
    A Waterflask
    Flint and Tinder

  • As a child, she was a girl born with a silver spoon.

As a girl, she was loved by all, doted on by all.

As an adolescent, she was more valuable than her weight in gold.

As a young woman, she was the strongest political tool in the Ashart family.

In order to protect herself from the desires of others, she chose the path of the sword.

But though she could fend off outsiders, she could not fend off the desires of the head of household.

It was a blessing, then, that she became a Chosen One before she became someone's canary.

    Curse:
    A Porcelain Doll
Ashina's body does not change to suit her needs. No matter what she eats, she will not grow fatter. No matter how hard she trains, she will not gain more muscle. Her body's development is locked by this curse, making it impossible to gain the physical strength she needs in order to compete with others of the same skill level as her. Prodigious skill, after all, can only go so far.

    "These are my retainers?"
    What lies behind the smile.
    Sibyl Moejeon
"Useful only for her real eyes, really. Everything else is just flat out terrible. She falls all over the place, forgets to do anything you tell her (intentional, perhaps? No, just stupid), and she loooooves to throw tantrums like an overgrown baby. Gods above, we need a gag on her. And could she stop trying to touch my hair? Little elven miscreant. Seen drunks with more self-control than her."

    Siri
"Who's that? The bug that I'm going to put into a glass jar?"

    Joan Raylen Drazelan
"Yes, I don't think she's serious. Like, woo, she loves to make plans…but her plans lack the psychological manipulation of basically anyone, so what is this? Elementary tactics 101? And, look, wooo, she knows how to swing a heavy object around like a child. So skilled. Such a fast learner. And, yay, she's playing surrogate mom for everyone else. Great. Stop that. Just get married and make your own babies to dote over. Or adopt, if you're barren. Leave me alone and your opinions to yourself."

    Matrole Greensun
"Can't dance worth shit. Also doesn't enjoy debates at all. At least he's a giant, so I don't have to worry about his advances. And as long as he continues on about whatever shiny thing he found, I can continue to tune him out. Works really well, I'd say. All I have to do is nod and pretend I'm listening occasionally. Pretty much like a tea party."

    Aurelion Elios
"Useful. Toss him in the same bar as me and I can actually have a meal without being bothered, if I sit in the far corner, have a heavy cloak over my face, and he's off telling stories or dancing naked or whatever that midget does. He's got a sharp mind as well. The only pleasant company on this trip, perhaps. His eyes are familiar though…and not in a pleasant way."

    Turvan Burntsteel
"Oh, Torvo found a cliff? Let's throw something off it? Throw yourself off, you fat lug. Hope you impale yourself on a tree and stay there the rest of your miserable life…is what I would say if he wasn't so useful. Socially inept and an absolute embarrassment to be associated with, but eh, I'll be nice and give him a pass. Unlike that Gorgon, at least he has an excuse for it. And magnitudes more useful as well."

    Cecil Hymn
"What on earth is she so happy about? It's like that bug all over again, except I'm supposed to believe that she's basically my age? My race? Well, seeing her blessing, she probably got mentally cut or bruised as well. Gods, it'll be horrifying if she started considering me her friend. I'm always fine with presents, but if she starts acting like a cat and sets dead animals by my bed? Hooooo…ugh, if she wants to make every piece of trash happy, she might as well go spreading her legs in every town. Probably gets off masochism and self-sacrifice, like those two-faced religious shits."

General Section
Name: Matrole Greensun
*Preferred Name: Mat
Other Names: Whatever people call him, both good and bad.
Sex: Male
Age: 24
Birthday: 12 August
Race:
Giant
Color: Silver

Appearance Section
Mat is rather large compared to most, but in the giant community he is pretty average. Other than his size he looks like a rather normal human. He is pretty fit, mostly from his various adventures. Those adventures have also caused him a lot of wear and tear. He spends a lot of time outside and is pretty tan, but also has some sun spots as well.

Height: 9'4
Weight: 422lbs

Body Frame: Thick but flexible
Skin Tone: Olive

Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Brown
Hair Type: Wavy, if he had any. His mustache is magnificent though.

Features: A lot of small random scrapes and cuts. He also has random markings around his back from where he allows people to tattoo on him. He really doesn't care much what is drawn on him. Right now it looks more like a bunch of random tribal tattoos more than anything.

Personal Section

Likes: Learning, Exploring, Talking
Dislikes: Orange Vegetables, Drama, Leaving things.
Fears: Superstitions.

Quirks: He can get really over excited over things. When he sees something he likes he really likes to put his hands on it. Not necessarily have it, but sometimes just touching things can help him calm again.

Hobbies: Fishing, Exploring, Tinkering, Ice Skating, Dancing, Diving.

Skills: Martial Arts, Survival, Navigation, Lore Knowledge.

Blessing: Sound of Secrets.
Mat doesn't really have control over it, but he randomly picks up on the secrets someone makes. It's weird because it manifests itself in two different ways. One is he can hear a secret being told nearby. The distance can be as far as within eyesight. The second is if he walks into an area where a secret has been told. Typically he has to be in the same room as the secret, but the age of the secret is timeless. He has heard some interesting secrets, both ancient and modern. He's not sure if it really helps or not, but he feels concentrating on hearing a secret can help.

Morality: Awakening the Sleeping Giant/ Blue and Orange Morality

Etiquette: He can be rather blunt with his sometimes obtuse points of view.

Attitude: He typically seems rather kind and cheery to everyone, but if you ask him his reasons for anything, they can seem rather dark and grim. It can cause him to make some odd choices sometimes.

Perception: Logically/Realistically. If the glass was being filled, then he would call it half full. If it was being emptied it would be half empty. If someone put half a glass of water in front of him and asked him the stupid 'is the glass half full or half empty question', he would tell them there's water in the glass.

Philosophy: "Why should I feel that way?"

Inventory Section

Wardrobe: He typically wears rather plain tan pants and white shirts. While he is out he also wears some light leather armor.

Miscellaneous accessory: A large backpack, A fishing rod and tackle, A shovel.

Protective Equipment: A magical lantern that can summon different color wisps and a pair of scissors.

Most Prized Possession: A random gem he found.

Most Valuable Possession: Possibly the gem, then the magic lantern. Sometimes the secrets he hears is worth more than all of his things.

Allowance: Mat is rather poor and simple. 10,000 gold sounds like more than he has ever seen before.

"I'm prepared to make a sacrifice to the Goddess in exchange for...Music."

History Section

Backstory: Mat grew up in a simple Giant farming village. He learned a lot from them, but even from a young age, he had an odd desire to explore. When one of his explorations took him deep into the forest, where he found an ancient sacrificial altar, his love for exploring exploded. There was a lot he could have taken from there, but simply knowing of it's existence and taking one gem which acted as an eye to a statue at the head of the altar was good enough for him. He wanted to see the world. He set off on his own a year after that and made a living selling his trinkets and furs. He also made a decent living selling secrets. From a young age, he was able to hear things he probably shouldn't be able to hear. He didn't understand what it was or why he was able to only hear things people didn't want others to know, but he was able to hear them. At first he thought it was ghosts and that is partially why he's terrified of them and other superstitions. As he got older he understood what his ability was, but his fear of the superstitious never went away. He found that some people were willing to pay a lot for these secrets. It wasn't easy finding who found these secrets valuable, but if he did find them, they always came with good pay. Now he has found his way to the Temple of Zycie. It seems like there is a grand adventure before him now and there is no way he is going to turn this down.

Curse: He just can't read.
Despite loving to learn new things and especially lore and stories, he can't read. He was never really taught how to read. His family tried when he was very young, but he had an extraordinarily hard struggle with reading. He was fine with everything else, as long as it didn't involve reading. In fact his memory was so good, he could occasionally feign being able to read, by reciting long passages he had only heard a few times. After a short year of effort, they gave up on teaching him to read and taught him many other important life lessons and skills.

Relationships Section
Siri: Siri is a funny little bug. It's amazing something so tiny has such a big mouth, or at least active mouth. Her voice is pretty though. I really don't mind her talking, even if it is just jabber sometimes. I wouldn't mind if she sat on my shoulder and jabbered all day.

Sibyl Moejeon: Sibyl is rather carefree. She is a little dark and bright at the same time, like a little enigma. I can't say I disagree with her often. In fact I like her a lot.

Joan Raylen Drazelan: Joan is pretty ok. She is a little to serious sometimes, mostly because it feels like she's always serious, or sarcastic. She does like to help people though so that's nice. She just need a dash of sugar.

Ashina Ashart: So this sugar turned out to be quite salty. She would be ok if she didn't think she were the pinnacle. She's actually very good in a lot of aspects, but pride has certainly brought her low. She's actually quite pitiable.

Aurelion Elios: I'm not quite sure what his deal is. I'm not sure if he says a lot or just a little. I hear lots of things from him, but I'm not always sure what's him. My best guess is he's manipulative. I just don't really have any idea what his goal is.

Turvan Burnsteel: Turvan is a fun little guy. He's certainly a character. Quite deranged too. It's funny because I could probably punt him a mile and he'd just waddle right back. I think his deranged mind can go a little far too. We better keep Siri away from him.

Cecil Hymn: Cecil is really nice, like really nice. She still sees things for what they are, but she seems very selfless and eager to make everyone happy. I wonder if she really gets sad or just lets her emotions build. She is very capable herself, but it would be really sad to see anything happen to her.

Lucio Röloelon: Rol seems ok. He's pretty quiet and secluded. Can't really say much about him.

Aurelion Elios/ Male/ 25/ June/ Half Dwarf/ Tiny Man
"Eren Darkhorse is another name of mine. Although you're probably not familiar with it, unless you play the games the noblemen do."

"See the horizon over there? I'm going to chase it. Everything will fall behind me."

"This Tiny Man has a very big man inside of him."
Aurelion Elios is not the man anyone expects him to be. Being born to a human mother and a dwarven father has left Aurelion forever compromised with mistaken identity. He is often taken for a young boy, because his frame is small and slender, he can't grow any facial hair, nor does age seem to wear at his more youthful features. It's in his black honey eyes that stare off, deep in thought, that reflect his true years and mature mind. He wears his long straight rust colored hair tied up loosely behind his neck. Many would say that Aurelion has graceful, and even noble looking features.

Blessing: Mantle of Conquerors
"I have a vision."
Aurelion received a curio and his own prophecy long ago. As long as he wore the pendant, and swore that he would sacrifice anything for his vision, he would find what he seeks. Aurelion only wants to conquer Zeffari. The Mantle tips the hands of fate in order to meet that end. Sometimes those hands deliver decisive victory or subtle wayward winds that ever so slightly affect his course. Other times it comes in the form of power boons that are granted for short term gain, but long term loss.

Curse: "I will sacrifice anything for it."
The Mantle demands that he sacrifice anything for his vision. He was told long ago that if he ever failed to fulfill that obligation, no matter the consequences, he would be swallowed whole into hell. For instance, he's given up his anger, but also his empathy. These emotions now exist as tiny runes that, through a series of uncanny and what some would call coincidental events, came back to him. The rage rune, when used, removes the limiters on his body, allowing his muscles to produce much more torque and power than normal- basically the strength equivalent of a giant. The obvious repercussion of nerve damage to his body aside, he had to give up his anger, which wasn't the actual sacrifice. It was his empathy. He's never used the empathy rune, and he's not sure if either of them will survive multiple uses.

Morality: "There are those who try to justify building their dreams on the suffering of others. Cowards, all of them. I will give everything to see them crushed."

Etiquette: "I can dance with nobles, gamble with pirates, join the urchins for a game of kickball- and everyone loves telling stories- stories that I can use to my advantage. But I keep my stories close, my enemies closer, my destination always in sight."

"I don't particularly like having to fight. I'd rather get what I want through words. Violence just seems so unnecessary when negotiation is endless."

Attitude: "I can blend in with anyone. A poor urchin on the street peddling stolen trinkets, or a noble boy visiting with his cousin who lost his way. No one thinks a I can be dangerous. Good. They don't need to know who I really am and that's what I prefer."

"I lean towards pragmatism, but I always keep an open mind. There's an advantage everywhere, even where it doesn't seem likely."

Perception: "I see the world for what it is. I see it for its pain and cruelty, it's mastery and beauty. I see the gnashing pit of teeth and cancerous corruption at the heart of this city. The balance of justice is weighted down by the bloody hands of those profiteers and their prostitutes, stealing the bread of the man who makes it. I will cleanse them all, and restore justice."

Philosophy: "Fate guides my actions. I'm only an actor taking part on a grand stage."

Protective Equipment: 4 Throwing Knives, 3 Bolas, a slingshot, and two daggers, 3 smoke bombs

Backstory: "Before I met her, I was imprisoned in the Caldwin Estate.
You see, as a young boy I was taken off the streets by a charitable nobleman promising me a chance at a new life. I was only nine, desperate and destitute. I was introduced to Edlund Caldwin, an old and cruel man cursed with perverse predilections. Many other orphan children like me had been given the same promise, suffering the fate of being chosen for Caldwin's newest set of attractions. The ones who weren't chosen... I'm not sure what happened to them... I just hope they didn't have to suffer anymore.

I was too young to understand what Zaffari was, and how it was that I could've ended up my predicament. Being penniless and short on an education make it rather difficult to understand the social milieu of aristocratic society under the reign of King God Rozmyte Hilldew. I almost wish I could go back to being ignorant.
We were used to entertain Caldwin and his guests. We were never hurt or violated or even neglected. All of our needs were met because our purity was the quality for which we were lusted after, and it was the asset that kept us breathing. We were humiliated and demeaned, made to dance and sing, play with eachother, sit on their laps, adorn them like the fine silks they wore. We were Edlund's doll collection polished and kept fine, languidly poised like portraits for the throngs of his social gatherings.

Once his guests were dabbling in the esoteric mysticism- their fetishes would always be changing like the seasons. It was at this particular soiree that I met an elven seer who changed my life forever. She seemed older than trees of great groves, and just as blind, attending as a guest and entertainer. Her garments were exotic and expensive. She reeked of wealth, just like everyone else. She wore this revolting charm around her neck similar to the one I'm wearing around mine. Mine looks like a calcified heart, hers was more like wounded open palm.
She told me of my origins, what I was destined for, and what I should do with all my pain and anger. She said I would have the power to make sure what happened to me would never happen to anyone else ever again, but that I would have to be willing to sacrifice.

After that night my world blossomed. I was still a prisoner in that estate, but my mind was free, and a inexhaustible fire raged in my being. I began stealing away into the library, teaching myself to read at first, and then hungrily devouring every book I could. Histories of the kingdom, histories of the world, manuscripts on various species of plants and animal I had never known in the slums of Zaffari, prophecies of ancient legend, lapses in the memory of man. Eventually I arrived at my conclusion.

I need to conquer this kingdom and depose this corrupt regime.

Everything I've done up until now has been for that goal."

Sibyl Moejeon "She's powerful. Her light heart might withstand what's to come."

Joan Raylen Drazelan "Her abilities are useful, and she's got a good heart. She could also eat two of me..."

Ashina Ashart "Beautiful, but there's pain in those eyes. Only the cursed could see such a thing. I don't know much of her family... she may be my enemy."

Matrole Greensun "Dewey eyes like those used to piss me off. Why does he look at me so much? Think he wants to eat me? I'd be little more than a morsel..."

Turvan Burnsteel "It's odd that I find similarities between us. Both granted blessings to help us endure this heartless world. Without that, we'd both be dead, I imagine. The Goddess has a funny sense of humor named Turvan."

Cecil Hymn "There is a peculiar kind of strength nestled in that smile."

Siri "I gotta be bigger than someone around here. Who is she and why did she bring us together? Her existence alone is fascinating."

@ERode : For the sake of coding and stuff, could you name your character's color please? Otherwise, I don't see any major problems with your CS-- congratulations!

(I feel like Ashina's gonna hate Siri though...or at least until she becomes a lightning bug.)

Color added.

And Ashina will probably just stick a chocolate taffy in Siri's mouth whenever it's open. Perma-shut-her-up and all.

@Joan

While the blessing and the curse go together relatively well, I'm not too sure I can accept mind-reading as a blessing...sorry!

BUT I can definitely offer alternatives that would go well with your curse! (Note that you wouldn't have to use these ones specifically, if none of them sound interesting and/or relevant to your character.)

- Since she has to "absorb" life force, she could therefore use said force to heal herself/others?

- The mist thing alone would be a good power...though you could make it more powerful, and possibly seep it under locked doors and stuff to scout out the areas ahead?

- SHE CAN FLYYY :D (Sorry, Peter Pan reference...I couldn't resist. Though, it's possible, if she rides her mist like a cloud.)

- Her mist can create illusions, right? So, you can kind of dilute the "mind-reading" and have her simply know the fears and/or desires of everyone she meets?

...again, I'm sorry that your blessing won't work out (blame the plot-shenanigans and plot-twists to come).

Race: Dwarf

  • Height: 4'5"
    Weight:
    167 pounds

    Body Frame:
Short and stocky, but with a surprisingly meaty build

    Skin Tone:
Its hard to tell as Torvo almost always has his armor on, but in rare instances its easy to tell he's got average beige coloration to his flesh.

    Eye Color:
Golden-Brown, common to those of the Burnsteel family
    Hair Color: Brown
    Hair Type:
Torvo's hair drools down to merge with his overwhelming beard, often messy due to being contained within his helmet all the time.

    Features:
Beneath his armor is a vast variety of scars and such. He's also got quite the bulbous nose beneath that helmet, though it sometimes is visible through his beard at times

  • Likes:
Alcohol of nearly any variety, Food of nearly every variety, shiny stuff, shanty tunes and breaking things.
Dislikes: Butterflies, Cats and Classical Music
    Fears: Blindness and Spider Webs

    Quirks:
Torvo constantly speaks in third person, whether he knows it or not is up for debate.

He drinks a lot, and by that I do mean he tries to keep alcohol within reach as often as possible.
    Hobbies:
Drinking, but Torvo also enjoys scavenging for things most of the time.

    Skills:
Scavenging- Thanks to Torvo's fondness for finding shiny things, he's very adept at spotting items of interest amongst rubble and clutter.
Blacksmithing- Though he may not act like it, he still holds the smithing talents of the Burnsteel family, and can craft weapons provided he has the materials and a suitable location. Similarly, he can also repair equipment if it hasn't been too badly damaged.

Tank- Torvo's durable and strong, capable of withstanding numerous blows while also trading a few of his own.

Explorer- Torvo's been to many places, and has some knowledge about the surroundings and the things that live there. Also makes him prone to tell of the many things he's witnessed during downtime.

    Blessing:
Torvo's greatest boon has to be the nearly insane levels of durability he has, by normal standards Torvo should've died literally hundreds of times over during his life, but managed to survive thanks to sheer durability. He's fallen off cliffs, been run over by stampedes, been used as ordinance and still been able to down a gallon of ale afterwards just fine. In fact, this durability may explain the range of his diet, Torvo's eaten poisonous and toxic materials before, and despite being bed-ridden or paralyzed for weeks on end he's still survived where others often die.

    Morality:
Torvo believes that laws and rules of any nature are unnecessary and foolish, that everyone should be able to do whatever they want whenever they, as long as they have the strength to do so. If they're too weak to do so, then they shouldn't.

The reason for this belief being his own skewed belief in Zycie. See, the Crimson Captain who kept possession of Torvo for most of his life was actually a devout believer of Zycie. However, the captain had gone far out of his way to twist most of her old sayings in order to justify the many horrible things he'd been doing. Raiding villages? Kidnapping and selling innocents into slavery? Slaughtering peasants just for the fun of it? All of it was A-Okay under the Crimson Captain's heinous interpretation of the Goddess's words. As such, Torvo himself had been taught that Zycie was actually an entity of chaos who endorsed wild and violent actions and sought the destruction of all who opposed the natural order of survival of the fittest.

Due to his own love for the wild, Torvo's taken to using these same skewed beliefs as an excuse for his own hatred of laws and regulations. Why should he pay for stealing from a sick man's homestead if the man was too weak to stop him? Why respect the dead when they're already gone and buried? Why should Torvo stop killing these specific animals just because they're nearly extinct? He doesn't stay in kingdoms very long because of this and his terribly dark sense of humor.

In fact, the reason Torvo's desperate to help complete this quest is because he's clung to the assumption that once reawakened, Zycie will then bring about a time of chaos and true nature to the world.

    Etiquette:
Torvo stays away from cities often, unwilling to bend to laws and therefore prone to upsetting the peace. Out in the wilderness its a free for all, he'll rob and steal from whoever he can get away with, often injuring and going so far as to kill some who get in his way. This has gotten him into his fare share of trouble, but he often sees repercussions for his actions as him being too weak to get away with it. He sees everything in this manner due to its simplicity, and often cares little for those unable to fend for themselves. However he does not show any semblance of hatred for those he deems weak, simply an understanding that they shouldn't be allowed to have anything they haven't fought and bled for themselves.

Because of this, Torvo can seem rather brusk and brash due to his open displeasure for silly things like dignity.

    Attitude:
Torvo's mostly a jolly little dwarf, but for mostly the wrong reasons. He finds humor in misery and even a semblance of respect for those capable of forcing a corrupted form of peace on people, but considers peace itself a boring blight that spits in the face of nature. As such, he cares little for what city-folk may consider proper behavior, and is unwilling to compromise the survival of the fittest mentality his abusive captors instilled in him in the past. He's not self-centered enough to consider himself one of the fittest, he understands that he was unable to have a proper education and doesn't know anything other than the wild ways of wilderness criminals, but due to his sheer durability gives himself a pass. He tips his helmet to warlords who got what they wanted by plowing through their opponents mercilessly, and even gives a thumbs up to those willing to backstab and cheat their ways to the top. He's the guy at the tavern who'd tell a joke about a burning homestead, and after one of those listening mentions their family once lived at that homestead, would just shrug and continue talking about it with a joyous smile.

Perception: "No matter! Glass don't have grog in it, useless! Crush it gah ha!" Torvo believes everything is measured in its usefulness, a strong man is more useful than a young child, so why prioritize the child over the man? Family-run farm produces less than a seedy factory, put those farmers to actual use! So I guess he'd be somewhere in the mix of a happy pessimist and a realist.

Philosophy: "If Torvo can do, and Torvo likes doing, then Torvo should do! Simple as that Gah hah! ~Glug Glug~ If Torvo can't do, or doesn't like doing, then Torvo won't do. If Torvo bad at doing, but want to do, then Torvo must be stopped! If Torvo good at doing, but no want to do, then make Torvo do!"

  • 8ca.jpg
"Gehehe ~Glug Glug~Torvo prepared to make sacrifice to great goddess in exchange for true nature! Gah ha ha!"
Wardrobe: Torvo is most often seen wearing a strange set of armor he built himself. Its an odd looking thing made up of dozens of metal slabs, beneath the slabs is a regular tunic and leather pants which pair well with his thick brown boots. He often wears brown work gloves, and completes the image with a thick metal helmet he's also crafted himself which covers only the top of his head. The rest is often obscured by his massive beard.

Miscellaneous accessory: Torvo's mug was crafted by the durable dwarf himself, he has two of these with him at all times but is able to fashion them at any time with enough metal and wood. Though it only appears to be the size of an average Giant's head, the mug itself is far more spacious on the inside than the outside would initially imply, and Torvo can often fill these mugs with as much as an entire gallon of ale. Torvo carries this and his other possessions in a large chest he often keeps strapped to his back under lock and key when traveling.

    Protective Equipment:
Torvo's Hammer~ Often kept inside the chest, Torvo's ability to fashion a decent pair of armor with this tool is rivaled only by his ability to smash through armor with it. Though Torvo barely uses it due to his ease of access to other weapons.
Torvo's Greataxe~ Used more for smashing than actual cutting, Torvo fashioned a double-sided Axe bulky enough to smash through most armors with enough force applied.

The Mindful Mincer~ Despite having the manners befitting a wilderness criminal, Torvo is not completely without dinner etiquette. Despite being able to pig out on nearly anything, he' finds it easier to cut up food before gorging himself. Rather than tear at it with his teeth, which only gets annoying after a while, he has this wonderfully sharp cleaver at his disposal. Much bigger than a regular cleaver, Torvo can carve into animals twice his size with minimal effort due to its sheer sharpness. Tired of regular knifes and cleavers breaking under the strain of tough animal hides, Torvo fashioned this himself to keep his meals from being delayed. However, due to its incredible sharpness, its easily broken on heavy armors and is thus reserved for lightly armored opponents... but mostly for meals.

    Most Prized Possession:
Torvo's most prized possession is oddly a red gauntlet he never uses.

    Most Valuable Possession:
One of the swords Torvo pilfered actually belonged to the son of a noble family who died in battle, and was actually crafted with rare and expensive minerals. The only reason Torvo hasn't been scammed of this item is because he finds it far too shiny to part with.

    Allowance:
Torvo's buried money in several places near his stockpiles, but on his person he currently carries 457 gold with 87 pieces of silver to go with it.

    Inventory:
    A small keg
Small parcel of smithing materials- though without a proper anvil to work on he can't make large items and mostly uses these for repairs and shaping small simple metals.
    Red Gauntlet of unknown origin
A small jar of flammable tar mostly used for making quick torches
    A sharpening stone.

  • Backstory:
Born to a family of renown blacksmiths, Turvan Burnsteel was initially set on a path of high mercantilism and craftsmanship that his forefathers were known far and wide for. Or at least, that was the case until his entire family was slaughtered by a large band of brigands who burned down his estate and kidnapped him as an infant. Yes the Crimson Axes looted the Burnsteel estate and killed all within before burning it to the ground, for much time afterwards people thought that the entire family had been wiped out in the attack. Little did they know that several of the bandits had kidnapped little Torvo during the raid.

They had been planning to ransom him off, not knowing that the rest of the Burnsteels had perished during raid. They had tried going behind the backs of their fellow brigands, but were eventually discovered and hung for the attempt. The rest of the brigands had left Toddler Torvo in the wilderness, None of them wanting to put in the effort of keeping the child alive. Torvo was almost immediately attacked by a wolf, who he ended up killing after the beast tired of trying to chew through him. He then dragged it back to the Crimson Axes, offering it to them playfully in expectation of a reward.

Seeing promise in this babbling toddler, The Crimson Axe Leader took him in for training. Not warrior training, mind you, training to be the most convenient meat shield ever. Foregoing using his old parma, whenever they got into a skirmish the Captain would just have Torvo stand in front of him and get beaten and battered for hours on end. Despite numerous wounds, Torvo would be pacified by the various things left among battlefields, often giggling at the shiniest objects despite what should've been debilitating blood-loss.

This would continue throughout most of Torvo's childhood, never receiving a proper education led him to develop quite heavy speech impediments, and no proper idea of the marketplace often led to Torvo being scammed out of the possessions he'd collected. Weapons that would often rack up high prices anywhere else could be obtained by just having a small number of coins to give to the dwarf.

He had picked up drinking from the various Brigands who'd drink themselves unconscious during downtime, the young dwarf partaking once he was able to wield a weapon. Once he could heft a sword he was expected to fight as well as defend, luckily enough his durability gave him the edge over many others during combat. His durability was even enough to impress the Crimson Axes, who had developed a little game on the sidelines where they would see how many times they could stab the unaware dwarf before he'd take notice.

Many times games like these went too far, such as when they tricked Torvo into eating hazardous foods expecting him to go into a catatonic state, only for him to pass out and wake up after a few hours (After which the Captain had him taste test every one of his meals.) Or the time they'd been hired by a small time lord to assault the fort of his political rival, ran out of ordnance during the siege and straight up loaded the dwarf into a catapult and slung him through one of the fort's walls.

But Torvo managed to laugh through most of it, the distractions of grog, shiny things and constant stimulation keeping him from realizing just how horrible his life was. With nothing else to compare it to, Torvo began finding a fondness for the destruction of the battlefield and the thrill of being in dangerous positions. Even after the Crimson Axes were eventually forcefully disbanded by a rival band of mercenaries and the Dwarf was set free, he had grown far too used to random violence and wild shenanigans to be able to properly function in a normal environment. He became more of a scavenger after gaining his freedom, looting battlefields after and even during major clashes between forces. Sightings of the dwarf became common as he traveled a lot killing monsters and looting. He'd often get swindled out of the armor and weaponry he'd pilfered and was even wanted in several places for stealing prized possessions from the dead, but he was still happy with this reckless lifestyle.

Torvo's been to several Kingdoms at this point, been trapped in monster-ridden badlands, caught up in several skirmishes, even captured by several bands of criminals. He's left hidden stockpiles of stolen loot in dangerous areas due to his nomadic lifestyle, always ready to return to one in a pinch. Several treasure hunters have even gone looking for these hidden Stockpiles, and though some ended up stealing his goodies, many end up dying in the process. It was actually soon after leaving one of these stockpiles that Torvo had actually been made aware of the grander scheme he would be taking part in.

    Curse:
For gaining his durability, Torvo has been constantly put in situations that would require it. Under the care of the Crimson Lances any other person would perish under that type of abuse. Not Torvo. Whether its from his accursed lack of mindful education or the hands of fate themselves, Torvo seems destined for pain. Whether its being loaded into a catapult and smashed into a wall with enough force to splatter average men, being used as a chew toy for beasts of unimaginable strength, or even the myriad of times someone's used him as a human shield, it seems impossible for him to escape physical trauma.

  • Siri- "Too much like Butterfly, but also tiny child? Torvo be cautious, not happen like last time. Torvo stay one step ahead of butterflies this time." Torvo's trying to identify whether or not Siri is one of the butterflies or not, ignorant on the subject of fairies. He enjoys having her listen to his stories and currently finds her enjoyable to have around, but has also been keeping a subtle physical distance between them until his clumsy investigation into her true nature bares fruit.

Joan Raylen Drazelan- "Hmmm, Torvo want see her big dreams crushed Gahaha!" Idealism is not something Torvo enjoys, and Joan seems to have plenty of idealism. Torvo is willing to keep his distaste for her ideals on the down low however, simply because ideals are some of the most delicious things to destroy. Having an idealist around to watch tragedy befall upon once confronted by the real world's darkness is always good for a laugh!
Sibyl Moejeon-"None more destructive than powerful child. Why she try balance? Take plunge and stone all in way! No hold back gahahaha!" Torvo sees hints of actual chaos in the blind girl, that with the childish nature and acceptance of certain darker aspects of life, but finds she balances herself much too often for someone with an ability such as that. Its not enough to make him hate her, just enough to make it irritating to try and ignore.
Matrole Greensun- "Giant body good for smashing! Gahaha! ~Glug Glug~ Hmmm, why Giant not smashing often?" Torvo respects power, and enjoys having a giant around simply due to Mat's strength. No sign of illogical ways with this one either! Mat doesn't seem like the type to go on a merry and violent rampage with said strength, which is a bit disappointing, but he's still okay in the dwarf's book.
Lucio Roloelon- "Quiet boy? Torvo no really care for quiet boy, he boring. Nothin' to hate, nothin' to like, just boring." Torvo can't really find anything to enjoy or dislike about the dark boy, so simply considers him uninteresting. Torvo can at least find something to enjoy about those he dislikes, but Lucio's so far into the grey that Torvo can't even find any enjoyment in disliking him. The fact that the only times he seems to step out of this ultra-pervasive morally grey area is when things get too bad, just makes him seem even more bland to the dwarf.
Ashina Ashart- "Hehehe, ruthless girl always make Torvo laugh! Always arguing, know what she want, take what she want! That true nature at work!" Torvo has quite the respects for the princess. Watching her attempt to rile up others quickly became one of Torvo's most enjoyable viewings, and her willingness to try stepping on others for her own goals is nothing less than true nature at its finest! If she were more rabid, more willing to just draw her weapons and start stabbing her annoyances instead of verbally assaulting them, Torvo would probably consider her an Apex being.
Aurelion Elios- "Why he think so much? Want to conquer kingdom? Grab some lads and storm the streets! Not enough action." Torvo doesn't find the tiny man to be bad per se, but his preference for thinking and talking instead of action does grate on the chaos-lover's nerves at times. Despite this he finds Aurelion to be okay company, but the half-dwarf needs more violence in his diet.
Cecil Hynn- "On and on about being happy ~Glug Glug~ Pretty funny Gahaha! True happy in tub of ale and grog. True happy on mountain of enemy corpses. She gonna be first to die, enjoy her while she here lads!" Cecil's undying need to make those around her happy has led Torvo to consider her nothing more than a source of entertainment. She just seems too weak to him, and is therefore not to be taken seriously. She's good for a laugh, but Torvo won't be expecting much from her during this journey.
