Luna Hall: A Magical Academy Hello all, Welcome to the sign up and information section for my latest RP. Special thanks to @Midian for helping me bounce ideas around. Please read all the information below before applying :) |
- What this game is about
-
All aspiring mages in the world of Solaria want to get into Tower University, but to do that they must first prove their worthiness by graduating from an accredited magic prep-school. Luna Hall is considered the best of the best with a 98% acceptance rate from their graduating class.
Any student between the ages of 13 and 17, who has graduated from their primary school, may apply. However, the competition is fierce and rules are strict. They say only 25% even manage to make it to graduation. Can you do it?
Come join us in a fun filled world of magic, adventures, spells, mistakes, familiars, and mystery.
- The Setting
-
-
Solaria is a continent in it’s own world in which magic is widely accepted. This RP takes place at the school and area surrounding it (see the map). The setting is along the lines of light modern steampunk. For examples you might look at Fairy tale or Howel’s moving castle. Guilds are prime employers of adult magic users, although there are a variety of other professions. Magical creatures are wild and rarely seen, although monster type creatures may live in uninhabited areas restricting travel.
Solaria is a republic ruled by a high council with representatives from a variety of professions and walks of life. The council retains a guard (or police force) to help enforce the law. Magic guilds and schools are held accountable for their actions by the magic council which answers to the high council. The system is similar for other companies and professions. e.g merchant’s guilds answer to the merchant council with answers to the high council etc. -

Broomstick regulations require a flyer to have a license when flying outside of designated zones. Zones include schools, sport fields, and public parks. It is also okay to fly without a license on family land. -
There are twelve months with the start of the year beginning with spring (our April):
Fruhling, Iris, Fluss, Regen, Fliege, Drehen, Ernte, Schnee, Nacht, Schlaf, Bluhen, Auftauen
-
Technology is modern with a dash of steampunk thrown in. If you've ever seen the show fairy tail it's a good example.
Magic and technology can work together or separately. and both can do things the other can't.

- Locations

Tower University:
Only the best of the best even make it in, but doing so pretty much guarantees you a prime spot in any magic guild. More than that graduates have gone on to be advisers to royalty, top scholars in coveted positions, and adventurers sung about in song. If you want to be anybody worth knowing in the magic world than a degree from Tower University can make it possible. -
Luna Hall:
A prep-school for those intending to go to Tower University, places at this school are highly sought after. The school, however choose applicants based on merit and ability, so don’t expect any special treatment for any reason. Students are sorted into houses by the headmaster so insure that a variety of students with various abilities and test scores are in each house. This is due to the wish to encourage teamwork and the expectations that housemates will help each other with their studies. -
Town of Luna Shire:
A bustling college town, the tower university is settled in the center surrounded by a large park. Life is fairly normal here despite being the goal for so many mages around the continent. Because it is the home for the university no guild hall may make their home here though several may have representatives in the city. Luna Hall is located several miles away from Luna Shire, but occasional weekend trips to town may be organised with teacher supervision.
Luna shire is also home to the main harbor and Airship yards of Solaria. The central train station also connects rails from several parts of the continent. With a grand market place and a variety of restaurants and museums and multiple hotels, Luna Shire is one of the main tourist hubs of the nation.

- General School Information
-
-
The school is designed as four wings surrounding a central complex and is very nature friendly. Part of the complex extend onto a lake, and it’s not unusual to find vines and flowers climbing exterior walls, halls, and stairways.
Each wing is home to one of the houses. The central complex houses the meal hall, class rooms, staff rooms, the library, as well as a variety of other rooms important to everyday life.
-
The buildings are set with a light stone in the crown of their upper dome each glowing in the house colors to welcome their inhabitants home. Each wing houses student dorms, bathhouses, several study rooms, and a common room. Dorm rooms are shared between 2-4 people and assigned randomly at the beginning of the year.
North wing houses SphinxHill. Their color is purple and the house is associated with earth, winter, midnight, and the new moon. Located on a small hill to the northern side just passed the lake, this is the only building to have a yard on all sides. A cobble stone path leads to this building and the yard has seen many snow wars come wintertime.
East Wing Houses RocCliff. Their color is maroon, and the house is associated with air, spring, sunrise, and the waxing moon. The wing building is located on the cliffs to the east of the main complex and sits above the school giving the inhabitants an aerial view of the grounds below. The wing is reached by a tunnel and spiral staircase cut through the cliff below and lit by magic torches.
South Wing: Houses DjinnGate. Their color is Orange and the house is associated with fire, summer, noon, and the full moon. The wing building is located to the south on the edge of the lake and reached via a stone bridge that crossed the river that turn into a set of minor falls. The post road to the main town can also be reached by a bridge from the DjinnGate building.

School Uniforms:
School uniforms consist of a tan blazer, a white button down shirt in either short or long sleeve, a grey school vest, and appropriate bottoms wear. Girls may choose from a dress, medium or short skirt, or pants. Boys may wear pants, shorts, or a kilt. Socks are to be grey or striped in the colors of the wearer’s house (after sorting). Each student may provide their own shoes and bags. After sorting girls are given a neck ribbon in their house color and boys are given a tie.
They may wear any pieces of either of the uniforms they like so long as they are worn appropriately (no shorts worn as hats etc), and in the correct house color.
For formal they must wear the full uniform as designated in the list, meaning pants/skirt vest, blazer, everything - unless stated otherwise for that event.
Formal events will include:
- Term start feast
- Term end feast
- Competition days (formal dress only required for the students on the competing teams)
- Exhibitions for non competitive school clubs (choir, band, etc - just the students showing need be in formal dress)
- Graduation day
-
There are a number of outside classroom clubs and activities. Students participating may compete against other houses or other schools, and when it comes to activities outside academic study Luna Hall has some serious competition.
Sports range from Broom racing, broom acrobatics, Showman’s squad (like cheerleading/dance team with magic), and team sports like Kepit (similar to american football on brooms), the is also a competition referred to as the casting challenge but more on that in game.
Clubs include debate, drama, and cooking, as well as anything with more than three members that does not already exists, does not break school rules, and a professor has agreed to support.
Older students may also be offered the chance to be a tutor or professor’s assistant based on grades and interpersonal skills.

Each dorm building is designed the same with only the variation in color theme. Buildings are set so that the main balcony faces the school building.
Each year has their own floor with up to 4 to a room and 8 rooms per year. Above the student living quarters is the house head's office and living. Below living quarters are study and common areas.
Note: Shown in RocCliff colors
Students may rearrange their dorm room to suite them.
Each room contains:
2 bunk bed sets
2 closets to share
4 desks
4 chairs
4 small dressers
4 desk lamps
1 large rug
Rooms are also outfitted with the Dorm Wifi signal and hookups for electronics (computers, radios, tvs, etc) to share. The wifi password for the dorm is passed out during homeroom.(which is taught as a house)
Note: Shown in LeviathanSea Colors.
There are 4 showers and 1 large tub in private room like stalls with a small place to dress and keep things dry. All stall doors lock.
On the other side there are 3 regular toilets and one large handicap style stall. Sinks and mirrors on both sides. In theory at 15 minutes each the whole floor can shower in an hour. But there's plenty of time and stalls for everyone to work out their own personal schedules.
Note: Shown in SphinxHill Colors
Each study room has a large table and multiple chairs for group protects. They also house two school computers each. Also contain a white board and bulletin board for student use. Study rooms are considered school work only zones. Improper use may lead to point docking.

- About me as a GM
-
blue Some information about my GM style for those who haven't played one of my games before:
- I like to incorporate player ideas whenever possible. If it's a big idea and fits within the universe mechanics, feel free to ask and we'll see what we can do. If it's a small idea that fits the mechanics, go for it :)
- I like the karma paddle. This means that in game consequences are a thing just like they are in the real world. Basically if your character gets caught cheating on a test that character will be serving an in game detention etc. :)
- I like to encourage player cooperation. Share ideas, chit chat, plan collab posts, basically make friends, work together and have fun.
- I like to incorporate player ideas whenever possible. If it's a big idea and fits within the universe mechanics, feel free to ask and we'll see what we can do. If it's a small idea that fits the mechanics, go for it :)

You may share this with me via PM, or add in an applicable field of your character sheet.
- All Iwaku rules must be observed (obviously)
- Characters you may play
-
Players may take as many or as few characters as they feel comfortable with. Each character must have their own sheet completed.
Students
You may play any student between the ages of 13 and 17 in an appropriate year of Magic school. No one will know their house until the beginning quota of applicants has been filled. Older students will be contacted with their house and any additional information about the school their character might know Via PM. New students will be sorted by the headmaster in the RP.
Staff
The staff includes not only teachers, but TAs, librarians, cooks, and other adults who help keep the school running.
Contact me VIA PM if you want to play a staff member.
I reserve the right to say no based on various factors.
Familiars
Familiars are intelligent animals who choose to work with a human and grow with them on their magical life journey. Some Familiars may take a second human after their first has died, but it is much more common for a young familiar and human to find each other in their younger years and grow together.
Familiars are general the highest level of their animal classification, cats, dogs, birds, etc. and while their lifespan may be extended 20 years by their nature they have no magical abilities themselves. They can, however, aid their human in performing magic in various ways..Familiars very rarely have human vocal abilities, but as Familiar and Human grow together they learn their own ways of communicating clearly and effectively..
Familiars have their own class taught by the staff familiars to help them learn and grow. Humans with a familiar will take a similar course. Depending on course schedules, classes may occasionally be taught together.
You may only create a familiar for someone else’s character and only with that person’s consent, OR you must intend to find a human counterpart for your familiar. Familiars will have their own sheet to fill out.

between levels based on
student interest. This is most likely
to happen with the mid level
courses (2/3), but this year’s
Magical Creatures classes were
especially full leading to the
standard one class and a

House Scores are calculated at the end of every week.
When a house reaches 100 points they may trade their point in for a house party or other fun activity, such as field trips or extra fun items for their common room, depending on what the house students want.
