Clarke - First in Command
28 | Male | Insurgency

About

Name: Matthias "Matti" Francis Clarke
Age: 28
Sex: Male
Orientation: Straight
Birthplace: Ludwick
Rank: First in Command of the Nerissa, Major under the command of Colonel Jessamine Astor

Description

Much to his misfortune, Matthias did not inherit his father's tall build. Instead, he fell somewhere in the middle with his shorter than average height and stocky frame. His childhood scrapes and scars are few and well healed thanks to his mother and her advanced Bioalchemy. The only noticeable blemish to his otherwise clear canvas is a ragged brand across his left pectoral. Matthias has a stunning blue gold gaze that has wooed one too many women in the past. He is very open about how he's feeling, and is thus very easy to read when upset or overjoyed. When excited, he'll talk too fast, and when nervous, he'll fidget with his hands. Matthias finds no shame in letting others know what he's thinking, but when asked about personal topics he will do his best to avoid them. Getting close to him is hard, but a loyalty well earned.

Identifying Features: A brand on his left pectoral, reaching to his collar bone. Don't talk to him about it. Matthias will never be seen without a small ring on a silver chain around his neck.
Height: 5'9" | 1.75m
Weight: 160 lbs | 72.6kg

Personal

Personality: Emotionally, Matthias is an open book. His face reads easy, and his mouth speaks the simple truth of what he is feeling. Growing up in a large family had the effect of eliminating his feelings of shame or need for secrecy. Matthias appears charismatic and generally very open on the surface, and does his best to keep his inner worries away by maintaining a positive attitude. He is incredibly determined once set out on a task, and will do anything to see a job well done.

On deck and in command, its as if a switch flips. Clarke is demanding of his crew and won't take no for an answer. Leaving men behind is not an answer, and Matthias will fight tooth and nail for each and every one of his men.

History: First born to a brilliant Bio alchemist and commendable Captain, Matthias was raised with all the love and affection any parents could give. He grew up as the eldest to a large and happy family, with no qualms to open affection and no room for secrecy. Even as Insurgents, the large Clarke family found peace in the coastal city of Ludwick running a moderate hospital with the renowned Bioalchemist Joanna Clarke at its head. His father, Nathaniel Clarke, was often gone, running supply missions in Mirefield for the Insurgency, but there was no lack of a bond. Matthias was close to everyone in his family in his own way, but his brother Oslo was his closest friend. From the time they were toddlers, the two did everything together.

When Matthias turned 18, that even included finding them work on a small crew running small recon missions near Lindon. Despite his family's pleas, they both left to pursue their careers as Insurgency Air Navy members. The crew got too close to Lindon, and they were captured and sent to a research facility run by an exemplary Alchemist known as Annalisa Verdenelli. Matthias seldom speaks of his time there, or how he came to escape with Kinglsey Lee. Shortly after returning, Matthias found out his father had been killed in one of his resupply trips. Even with the loss of their father, the Clarke family was grateful to Kingsley for bringing Oslo and Matthias home, and would always consider him family.

From then on it was a blur of rising through the Insurgent ranks. Members often commented on Matthias' obsessive fascination with the five Alchemical Sources, but most were impressed with his natural skill in Bioalchemy. It has been ten years since Matthias and Kingsley's meeting, and Matthias thinks of him as much a brother as his own siblings. He would do anything to repay the life debt he owes Kingsley.

Eh maybe break into individual CSs

  • Name: Ellara Wittacre
    Age: 21
    Height: 5'4"
    Weight: 115 lbs
Eye Color: Blue with an inner gold ring
    Hair Color: Red

Appearance: If not for her head of rich red hair, Ellara would be another face in the crowd. She keeps it down around her face to conceal the ragged scar beneath her left ear that stretches around the side of her neck. Her hands show the signs of defensive wounds as well, and she takes great care in covering them at all times. The scarred flesh makes her incredibly self conscious of her appearance, and Ellara is most often seen wearing high collared cloaks and vestments in addition to her soft colored linens. She is of short stature compared to her regular company. The countless hours spent inside have kept her skin pale, a typical trait of a Northern born. Ellara is most often seen with a leather satchel at her side, stuffed with books she's acquired from the library, that is, if one can find her.

Personality: Ellara is nothing but polite. To strangers, to friends, she puts on the same facade for every social interaction she's either forced or willing to have. The young woman is reserved and dreads any kind of confrontation with anyone. As a result, not many of the men and women at court know much about the surviving heiress from the North. She wants to believe in the inherent good in people, but she has a difficult time seeing beyond the incidents of the past year. She yearns for companionship but is too timid to forge any lasting friendships. To those she is familiar with, she has a quiet and thoughtful voice and a charming personality. However, due to her lack of confidence and overall shy demeanor, not many get to see this cheery side of the young woman. Ellara's greatest desire is to find her place among the other nobles, and has little inclination to return to the North.

    Family:
    ◈ Arrick Wittacre:
Father, deceased, former ruling King of the Northern Kingdoms
◈ Annalise Wittacre: Mother, deceased, former ruling Queen of the Northern Kingdoms
◈ Finn Wittacre: Brother, deceased, former Crown Prince of the Northern Kingdoms
◈ Catherine Wittacre: Sister, Heiress to the Northern Kingdoms
  • Name: Catherine Wittacre
    Age: 24
    Height: 5'9"
    Weight: 165 lbs
    Eye Color: Brown
    Hair Color: Blonde

Appearance: If the sisters didn't share the name, one might think they weren't related at all based on appearances. Catherine has fully embraced her nobility and enjoys the numerous luxuries that come with it. Her gowns are gaudy, brightly colored, and meant to bring the attention of the room on herself. She spends hours ensuring her hair has been brushed to its full shine before court, and embraces the attention she receives. Her skin is a shade darker than Ellara's from enjoying the Southern sun, but still pale enough for one to assume she is of northern descent. Catherine spends an obsessive amount of time on appearing clean and elegant before appearing in public.

Personality: Cunning, conniving, and cruel. Catherine has been blinded by her desire to retake her childhood home. Her kindness is all an act. She is narcissistic, and demands attention at court, which she receives without question due to her beauty and horrific tales of her escape from the North. Catherine can be quick to anger when she doesn't get her way. Much similar to a child being denied her favorite toy, Catherine wants what she wants, and stops at nothing to see to it she gets what she wants. She spends most of her time with other noble ladies, enjoying the social atmosphere the Southern kingdom has to offer.

    Family:
    ◈ Arrick Wittacre:
Father, deceased, former ruling King of the Northern Kingdoms
◈ Annalise Wittacre: Mother, deceased, former ruling Queen of the Northern Kingdoms
◈ Finn Wittacre: Brother, deceased, former Crown Prince of the Northern Kingdoms
◈ Ellara Wittacre: Sister, Heiress to the Northern Kingdoms
  • Name: Maeve of the Frost Fangs
    Age: 35
    Height: 5'11"
    Weight: 180 lbs
    Eye Color: Amber
    Hair Color: Dark Brown

Appearance: Maeve has waves of thick, dark brown hair. She keeps it braided when she has to work. Her eyes are a amber in color and soft, but her defining features hard. She has faded tattoos on her forehead and arms. They are traditional of the mountain tribe she was born into, though she no longer associates with them. Overall, she appears less feminine and very rugged.

Personality: The Northern woman is blunt, and cares little for the opinion of others. She knows when to hold her tongue and when she should speak her mind, and it is something she is grateful to be able to do. Her maternal protection over Ellara is evident in the way she diligently stays by the red head's side.
  • Name: Sir Duncan Kelly
    Age: 56
    Height: 6'0"
    Weight: 210 lbs
    Eye Color: Green
    Hair Color: White

Appearance: Duncan hates to admit he's old, but the snow white hair proves it. The man maintains a muscular physique, but is otherwise average in appearance. Behind his thick beard he always seems to be smiling about something.

Personality: The knight has a high regard for justice and morals, as did many of his fallen brethren. Duncan always searches to find the good in people, and make the best of a situation. However, when wronged, he is fierce and hot tempered. There is no stopping Duncan when he believes he is doing what is right.
  • Name: Arlo Ward
    Age: 22
    Height: 6'2"
    Weight: 190 lbs
    Eye Color: Blue
    Hair Color: Black

Appearance: Arlo has a messy head of rich black which never seems to sit just right. He has friendly blue eyes and a smile to match, when he's not being flirtatious or mischievous.

Personality: The knight in training is a bit of a flirt, but would also never step outside the friendly boundary he sets between himself and his royal friend, Ellara. He may be playful, and somewhat goofy, but Arlo is honest and hardworking beneath his outward persona.

Girl needs a new code, blegh

Tolainnea "Tola" Rota
25 | Female | Vraenor Empire

About

Name: Tolainnea "Tola" Rota
Race: Horned
Age: 25
Allegiance: Vraenor Empire
Position/Role: Apprentice Healer

Skills:
Healing - Tola has dedicated most of her life to the study of healing magic. She is still an apprentice, and has not earned her title as Doctor, but is nonetheless an impressive student.
Botany - As a student of the Stiildus sect, and an apprentice of healing magic, Tola has an appropriate understanding of a wide variety of plants. That being said, she can discern between poisonous, edible, and otherwise helpful herbs. It is useful in both offensive tactics, such with poison blade coatings, and defensive tactics related to healing and preservation.
Summon - In times of peril, Tola is able to summon beasts of the wild for aid. Her beast of choice is most often a large caribou, with a full and heavy rack of antlers. Although she is capable of summoning other beasts of the wild, though the action is incredibly draining. Although still one of her skills, she is not an adept summoner by any means.
Patience - Tola is an incredibly patient woman, and doesn't mind when a patient gets a little out of hand under her care. She puts her duty of care above all else to ensure that her magic is the best it can be. She is not easily affected by harsh words or uncomfortable situations.

Weaknesses:
Vulnerable - Being that Tola is a support role, and not that of a fighter, she is somewhat vulnerable when placed near the front lines. Although not incapable of defending herself, she would not survive most combat scenarios on her own.
Dense - Tola takes things literally, and appears very deadpan in nature. She does not take her magic as a joke, and does not think others should either. Sarcasm is something that goes over her head. She can be very literal, and her demeanor is often mistaken for being too cold or unkind.

Weaponry/Gear:
A simple dagger, given to her by her father.

Appearance:
Tola stands taller than most other women, considering she is supposed to have human heritage. At 5'11", her slender frame is often covered by the traditional clothes she has grown up wearing in the cold mountainous region. As a part of her healing studies, Tola took it upon herself to engrave white tattoos on her skin to aid the casting process. The most obvious feature would be the two horns protruding from just above her ears. They're a shade lighter than her dusty black hair. Her eyes are golden, and usually appear bored.

Personality:
Tola is a woman of fierce dedication and passion, but you would never know it simply by speaking to her. She has a natural deadpan expression and monotone speaking tone that gives the impression she is constantly bored. On the contrary, once riled up, her expression turns up and her true feelings shine through. However, she is still rather dense, and is far too literal. Jokes and sarcasm are difficult for Tola to understand.

Brief History:
The young woman doesn't remember much of her childhood. She knows she used to live in a small village. Her mother practiced small bouts of healing magic, and her father was often gone. He was a soldier under Emperor Uther. As the plague swept through the nation, it didn't hesitate to wipe out the small town she inhabited. Most of the village succumbed to the plague, leaving Tola and the local blacksmith, Tasond, as the only two survivors. Tola and Tasond moved nearby to what she came to know as a second home. Tola continued to practice her family's traditional method of healing magic, as well as studying new methodologies from the Arcanum Magnus. Not all seemed fond of the odd horned humans, but Tola never seemed to mind.

Her greatest desire is to rejoin with the rest of the world in order to continue her studies, and eradicate the plague that took most of her village. She realizes it's as far fetched a dream as they come.

Linnae
Nymph of Aquifoliaceae | 75 | Estura
Name:

Linnae Ilex Aquifolium of Aquifoliaceae

Nickname:

Holly
Brambles (used exclusively by Kholas)

Race:

Nymph

Age:

75

Home Territory:

Outskirts of Caelora, Estura

Profession:

None

Description:

For a nymph of her species, Linnae is somewhat stunted in height, being only 5'3" from her heels to the branch like 'hair' on her head. She blames it on the current situation with the guard stones. Her skin is soft, and closer to actual skin than bark, and a pale olive in color. Linnae has dark ruby red eyes. At first glance, she does appear more humanoid than some of her brothers and sisters, although the supple twigs coming from her make it apparently plain that she is anything but human. During periods of growth, short green leaves sprout from the twigs and sometimes produce small holly berries.

Do not eat the berries. Holly berries are poisonous and Linnae will be annoyed.

Having spent so much time mingling within Taithros in order to stay close to Kiernan and the rebellion, Linnae grew comfortable with the idea of donning layer upon layer of the garments typical humans wore in order to blend in. Within any densely populated city, Linnae wears the long robes of a scholar, with a delicate mantle to cover her head - one of the few personal effects of the nymph's. Anywhere else, she prefers something that is easy to move in. Outside the city, Linnae will typically wear a sleeveless tunic tied at her waist, with leathers and flat sandals.

Personality:

Years of witnessing the destruction and vandalism of the Forest of the Ancients, and its precious Heart, have made Linnae wholly distrustful of all races and left her with a vehement opposition to Taitellen rule. She regards strangers with skepticism and often times an air of hostility that does not go unnoticed. To friends and allies, Linnae is actually quite relaxed and temperate in nature, although it takes time before she considers a person to be close enough to be called as such.

The Nymph is not cruel. She is guarded, cautious, and harbors feelings of disapproval not unlike those living within the larger capital cities of the five greater nations. However, it can be difficult to see past her initial persona. Once allied with Linnae, she is incredibly loyal and wants nothing more than to provide whatever assistance she can. Then - she is friendly, warm, and would do nothing short of take an ax to the arm to see her family safe.

Bio:

Linnae was born not long after the removal of the guard stones was deemed necessary, and was a young sprout of a nymph when they were removed from the innermost center of the Forest of the Ancients. She claims to have few memories of the event, blocking them out from the chaos within the communities of nymphs in the wooded areas around and within the forest. But that claim is a lie. Watching, feeling it in the dirt and in the trees, as men came and shattered the enigmatic stones. That kind of horror as the very world she knew fell apart bit by bit, those kinds of memories were impossible to forget. She could feel the effects in the years after whenever she ventured too far from the forest itself, and at first she brushed it off as nothing more than discomfort being so far from home. But the lethargy, the rumors from the far reaching isles, Linnae found it too difficult to ignore. It wasn't until almost two decades later she met a most curious man, a teacher.

He explained how he felt he had made a grave mistake in helping to remove the guard stones, and she felt inclined to believe him, but offered no help. Had less time passed, she might have held enough fury to end the man's life right then and there. Unfortunately, he was found and taken to Taitelle before he was able to carry out the vaguely detailed mission he had shared with the nymph. The then curious Linnae followed. In the years that followed she met his student, Kiernan, finding his company to be tolerable despite the city he hailed from. Linnae began to spend less time near the center of Aetheria, and more near the outskirts of the very city she hated. In time, she was introduced to Kho, and an odd friendship was formed. The rest, was history.

Conrad Dietrich von Ecsed
Grand Vampire Matra

  • Age: 27 (in rough appearance)
    Species: Vampire

    Family (all deceased):
Elias von Ecsed - Turned, Ecsed lineage
    Nora Ackermann - wife
    Else Dietrich - mother
    Johannes Dietrich - father
    Igor Dietrich - Younger Brother
    Elsabeth Dietrich - Younger Sister
    Anne Dietrich - Younger Sister

    Appearance:
Standing at a near perfect 6'0", Conrad tends to stand just above the crowd. He has dark features that he finds personally amusing and ironic, considering the fact that he's supposed to be a terrifying creature of the supernatural. His sharp face is handsome to most, and he knows it. Conrad tends to keep his jet black hair slicked back and out of his eyes. Bright blue in color, they tend to grow darker the longer he goes between feeding, and they always seem to have a glimmer of mischief hiding in their depths. Conrad has grown accustomed to wearing dark button up shirts with either tailored blazers or a thick sweater. His wardrobe consists of hardly any color aside from black, gray, and the occasional red or blue. It suits him best.

    Defining Features:
His chest is marred with scars from fights dating back to the day he was turned. Some are more impressive than others. The largest is a scar on his body is a circular shaped wound in the center of his abdomen. He doesn't like to talk about it.

  • Traits:
Conrad has spent too many years living to be as chatty as he once was, preferring to listen to the crowd rather than speak up himself. But in the right company, Conrad becomes much more sociable. He'll share a drink and a tale with anyone who has the courage to simply ask. Although he is cautious about how much personal information he divulges. Due to the relatively short nature of human lives, he enjoys weaving fake stories about his life. After all, no one has lived long enough to disprove the lies.

His charisma and charm make him an interesting person to befriend and know, but getting there is an almost impossible challenge. Conrad has long since given up attempting to make friendly with the local human population, the exception being those humans that tip particularly well when they've had a little too much to drink at his bar. That and the myriad of experiences and situations that have brought out his distrust in others. He finds it is much easier to simply go his own way, interfering little in the lives of others over the centuries unless he finds it particularly interesting.

To the handful he can call friends he is fiercely loyal and protective. They are his family, despite what any bloodline might say. He would give limb and life to see that no harm comes to any of the few he's chosen to call his family.

His disinterest in the human populace made him an ideal candidate for Grand vampire almost a century earlier. It's his sharp tongue and scheming thoughts that got him into trouble with the other supernatural orders. Although not the perfect leader, he's one of the best they've had for centuries. He is orderly, organized, and isn't one to beat around the bush when it comes to serious conversation within his own order.

    Strengths:
    Composed.
    Loyal.
    Silver Tongued.
    Protective.
    Charismatic.

    Weaknesses:
    Compulsive Liar.
    Distrustful.
    Guarded.
  • Powers:
    Manipulation:

Conrad is considered a master of the art of manipulation. Through the use of manipulation, he is able to convince another to do his bidding. The more complex the order, the more difficult the manipulation attempt is. Ordering a human to walk ten steps is considered a basic use of the skill. Ordering them to commit a crime over the span of several hours? Even Conrad would struggle with the task as it can take an incredible amount of focus. A person can be manipulated into doing something they would normally be ethically opposed, and due to this, there are consequences to those who abuse this power. For instance, if Conrad were to ever manipulate another nonhuman, he could be stripped of his titles. Manipulating the Grand Master of another Species has more severe penalties. Conrad need not touch his target to manipulate them, but it may be required the more difficult the attempt.

    Memory Alteration:
In addition to being able to coerce someone into doing his bidding, Conrad can alter the mind in another way. He can erase or create memories at will. It is a very dangerous ability that he himself is not allowed to use except under the most extreme conditions. The practical uses often involve erasing the memories of a human who has seen supernatural activity. As an offensive ability however, it can leave an opponent confused and dazed. It is not practical for quick combat, but rather a long term ploy. Unlike manipulating, memory alteration requires a physical touch. Furthermore, Conrad is able to pull memories from someone's mind and attach them to objects. It has come in handy over the past century for supernatural trials as a means of obtaining irrefutable evidence.

    Shadow Play:
This power has multiple intended uses. Conrad has the ability to blend in with the shadows. He can simply turn into a black mist and blend into the dark should the need ever arise where he needs to be unseen. It also acts as a convenient means of transport. As a shadow, he is able to move quickly and silently. Although not as fast as teleportation, it is comparable in efficiency. Conrad is able to carry others with him so long as they are nearby. The disadvantage to becoming a shadow is that he is still able to be sensed or even smelled by anything nearby.

    Turning:
Every vampire has the ability to turn another into their own species. It is both a problem within the community, and a means of ensuring their survival. Conrad must justify every turning that takes place within his ranks.

    Enhanced Senses:
All of the five natural senses, touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing, are enhanced beyond the natural capabilities of that of a human. Their scent is not as powerful as that of a lycan, but a vampire has the unique ability to smell blood. It has distinct smells to each person, and like taste, an individual vampire has different preferences of smell than another individual vampire.

    Weapons:
Conrad owns several pistols as a last resort in the event a confrontation with a lycan goes south. He has no inclination to use them, but he is also never seen without a 45 on his hip- if you know where to look. Conrad is careful to conceal the weapon.

Instead, to defend himself Conrad has spent many years of his unnatural life training in hand to hand combat under different martial arts masters. He does not wield the same magical proficiency as witches or wizards, resorting to physical confrontation at a close range in order to win a fight. His fondness for knives is an advantage, but his fangs can be just as deadly.

Penelope Pexori
Horned | 26 | Bard
Name:

Penelope Pexori
Prudence Hawthorne

Nickname:

Penny

Race:

Horned

Age:

26

Home Territory:

Tórlinn, Wyndfel

Profession:

Bard

Description:

Often times, you'll hear Penelope strumming a tune on her worn down lyre before you ever see her face. Her melodic voice is often described as being soothing, and pleasant to one's ear. She stands tall at an even 6'0" with sharp features and a permanent smile etched onto her face. She often wears the same deep purple coat, a gift she is sincerely grateful of. Otherwise Penelope can be most often seen wearing tunics ten sizes too large, cinched with thick belts to keep her figure about her. Two horns curl horizontally away from her forehead, tips pointing towards the sky. Her skin is an ashy gray tinged with a light blue color. From head to toe she is covered in minor scrapes and burns, the most obvious she keeps under wraps around her wrists and arm for when she is performing. Penelope has thick black hair with a few interwoven braids, and two bright blue eyes.

Always at her side is a large black and gray cat named Jack.

Personality:

Penelope is good-natured at heart, an altruistic soul with the best of intentions and nothing to her name but the shirt on her back and the lyre in her hands. She'd give her last coin to a complete stranger for no better reason than because they'd asked. Although her generous nature makes many think the horned woman is a bit of a pushover, she is anything but. A girl still needs to eat, after all. Despite the open friendliness she displays, the horned woman never talks much about herself, preferring to keep her own life private.

She tends to dote on her friends at every opportunity. And to Penelope everyone is a friend as soon as she knows their name. Penelope isn't one to display weakness, and has a difficult time accepting help from others. Call it pride, she just doesn't feel comfortable taking more than she needs. Considering her personality Penelope tries not to think about the obvious hypocrisy.

Jack is the best. He's a sweet cat with so much love. Air biscuit master.

Bio:

Born in Tórlinn, Penelope Pexori was born Prudence Hawthorne to a well to do couple in support of the Empire. She spent the early years of her life in her mother's shadow, who worked the medical tents outside the larger mines and assisting those who had been injured mining or smithing. Her father was a soldier for the Taitellen Empire and his loyalty to the military was unquestionable. In time, he earned a promotion and the family was relocated to Taithros. It was during this stressful move in which Penelope first discovered her innate ability for healing. While her father was ecstatic, her mother showed signs of unease with every improvement the young girl made. At the age of fourteen, her father had her enrolled in the military to hone her abilities and support the Empire. Her mother didn't approve. Her parents constantly fought over whether or not it was appropriate for her to be enlisted at such a young age. Then, one day, her mother fell ill and within days lost her life to an unknown ailment.

It wasn't until years later Penelope finally learned the truth. In a drunken episode, her father finally admitted he had poisoned her. It was for the good of the Empire, he had said, and that she was not a true supporter of their Emperor. When Penelope discovered her father was behind her mother's death, she was devastated. The last two years of her life she'd spent in the military on her father's order and decided she had to leave at the age of sixteen. They argued, they fought, and in the end Penelope stabbed her father in his sleep and ran without looking back. Penelope isn't sure if he's alive or dead. She hardly cares.

It was on the road to nowhere she encountered Octavius and Beaumont. They were kind enough to let the starving girl travel with them, even going so far as to help her find a place in one of the many schools at Khal Miras dedicated to fine arts. It was Beaumont who encouraged her to take up the life of a bard after listening to her sing on the road. She dedicated her life to spreading joy and helping others, just as the two strangers had for her.

There are very few people in the world who know of her actual history in Taithros. Penelope tells everyone she grew up in Khal Miras and her parents died when she was young to avoid the sensitive topic, and no one has questioned her otherwise.

Magic:

❖ Restorative - Healing, Purifying

Skills:

❖ Swordplay - Being in the military, even if only for a short while, came with some perks
❖ Identification of poisons and toxins - Training in the military has given Penelope the advantage of a wider array of knowledge of common poisons and toxins
❖ A variety of musical instruments, favors the lyre - She can play many instruments but this one is her favorite and the only one she owns
❖ Cooking - The young woman enjoys learning new recipes and is an excellent on the spot chef

Strengths:

❖ Charismatic - friendly to anyone she meets and radiates confidence in her speech
❖ Purification - the branch of Restoration magic has always come naturally to Penelope
❖ Good natured - honest intentions, is always willing to go the extra mile for others

Weaknesses:

❖ Hot headed - Hot tempered and foul mouthed, can be easily set off if one can find the right sore spots
❖ Lost - Directionally challenged despite her ability to navigate difficult terrain
❖ Reckless - Emotions tend to blind Penelope from rationalization, she has little regard for the consequences

Romanceable:

Absolutely.

Dr. Benjamin Crane
Sniper | 46 | Medic
“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.”
- Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

Name:

Dr. Benjamin Augustus Crane, MD

Nicknames:

Ben, Benji, Doc, 'Hey You'

Race:

Non-Immune Human

Age:

46; DOB August 28th

Home Territory:

Graceland

Profession:

Doctor

Description:

Benjamin stands at an uneven six foot, or perhaps a near five foot eleven, it's hard to tell with the shoddy prosthetic leg he's kept cobbled together over the last fifteen years. He lost his left leg as a child in a car accident and without any surviving companies creating new parts to keep it in balance, the inch of leeway would have to do. As a result he walks with a limp, and on the days the rain is a bit too much, he can be seen using his rifle as a cane. It's hard for most people to look past the prosthetic to notice his tired facial features. Benjamin has peppered black hair and a short beard which he lazily trims when permitted the luxury. A long scar cuts across his right eye, which has caused him to lose a good portion of his vision. His eyes are a steely blue and there is little life left in the two dark orbs.

Usually, the good doctor can be seen in the same rugged pair of charcoal cargo pants tucked into a pair of shin high cargo boots-- at least on the one side. It's easy to see which leg is missing a bit of meat on the bone, but he still dons both shoes every morning. Benjamin has long since lost his precious white medical coat, not as if he'd wear it anyhow, the only item he has kept over the years is his stethoscope. It hangs around his neck like a badge of honor and a clear indication of his practice.

Personality:

The good doctor appears outwardly genuine, with compassion and care his first priorities when treating patients within the Graceland compound he's come to call home. He has few worldly possessions, not that anyone else has much to claim for themselves either, and most of what he finds he gives to others to put to good use. Benjamin already has everything he needs and puts his focus into keeping his community healthy and thriving. This is the face that the residents of Graceland are accustomed to, the smiling doctor who greets each day with a subtle smile and a wave before going about his business with a quiet sort of concentration.

Inwardly, Benjamin is rather reclusive and prefers to be left alone to his self destructive thoughts. He turns to booze for comfort and is struggling to keep the façade of a happy life up as his chronic pains grow worse each day, his leg getting more and more tired the longer he goes without a proper fitting prosthetic. The only people who know about the more depressive side of Benjamin are those he would call his closest friends, though the list isn't very long.

If he had to be honest, putting on a brave face and curing the world one scrape at a time suited him just fine, even if he did miss home. At least there was a purpose in that.

Bio:

Before the shit show of a virus spread across the country, Ben spent most of his young adult life studying and preparing himself for a life of fatherhood and residency. Like all problems in life, he approached them in the same manner. Through the arduous memorization and study of books and reference material, Ben set forth to excel in every challenge presented to him without any room for failure. He was determined to clear a path for his happy little family.

He met Joanna in his first year of college. She was a student in her second year, studying business without a passion for her studies. It was an instant attraction. Within a few more years, Joanna had graduated and began a decent job as a secretary for a small printing company in the DC area. Barely a month later, Joanna found out she was pregnant. That winter she gave birth to twins, Hannah and Grace. All the while she always encouraged Benjamin to continue to his dreams of becoming a doctor. Despite the difficulties the two had shared with the both of them attending school, Joanna being pregnant, and the overwhelming amount of debt looming over their heads, they had so much joy within their little family. After the girls were born, at the young age of 21, Benjamin proposed. It was a whirlwind time in Benjamin's life but he never regretted choosing Joanna and his girls.

Finally, at the age of 25 he got the notification that he had been accepted at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Annandale, Virginia for a residency program. Now that he'd completed both his bachelor's and four long years of medical school, he was ready to tackle the next phase of his education. He was over the moon. They celebrated by finally tying the knot, and Joanna and Benjamin officially married that afternoon at the courthouse. Everything was perfect. Joanna was doing well in her position, Benjamin had a residency at a highly respected hospital, and their two girls were due to start school in the fall. He felt like he was on top of the world and all the pieces were falling exactly into the right places. Once his residency was up, Benjamin was offered a position as a surgeon and was officially a part of the hospital staff, working towards specializing in cardiology.

How many times could he say it was perfect? Not enough.

And then, one day, his perfect world began to crumble apart. It started with an unknown disease. He saw it in patients. A strange illness they couldn't treat as one by one, patients had to be quarantined and staff sent home. Schools shut down due to the spread of some unknown virus. At first, Benjamin couldn't believe it. Zombies? The apocalypse? It wasn't real. This was the kind of stuff straight out of a horror flick, not a real disease. Yet he saw it day by day in the patients at the hospital. Much to his dread, he finally saw it in his own wife. It started as a cold and quickly turned into something much worse. From his wife, to his daughters, and from there, Benjamin knew that everything he had worked so hard to build, this perfect little world he treasured, had finally been broken.

He travelled between compounds for a time, offering his services as a doctor to those who needed it, before settling in Graceland permanently. Five years after the chaotic affair of the beginning of the end of the world, Benjamin met someone. A boy. That kid changed his life for the better.

Pack:

Inside of Benjamin's pack are primarily stockpiles of bandages, ointments, and a mix of medications and whatever other supplies he can get his hands on. He even had the fortune of finding two Epi-pens on an expedition. He hoards medical supplies at his own personal expense and doesn't carry much else beyond a canteen and a few spare rifle bullets. He has a dull knife, half a roll of duct tape, and some gum he's pretty sure is expired. Benjamin has a pistol, but the ammo comes and goes as easily as the liquor he sometimes carries.

His most prized possession is tucked away against the back of his pack. There's something there, a flat object wrapped and tied securely inside of a red plaid kitchen towel. It stays there.

Skills:

  • Medical knowledge; licensed surgeon in the state of Maryland
  • Hunting knowledge; as a child, hunted with his grandfather for sport
  • Steady hands; practice through hunting and medicine has given Benjamin steady hands for healing and hunting

Strengths:

  • Level headed; thinks rationally instead of emotionally
  • Soothing; a calming presence to anyone acting anxious
  • Loyal; once an ally, always an ally

Weaknesses:

  • Impaired vision; right eye scar
  • Impaired mobility; limp in left leg
  • Alcoholic; in a depressive mood, his addictive tendencies to liquor can get the better of him

Romanceable:

Absolutely, I guess?

27 appearance | 75 years

Male

6'2"/170lbs | 1.88m/77.1kg

Toreador

13th Generation

Anarch
Wesley 'Wes' James Moore
Appearance:

There's something in his smile that is equal parts alluring and handsome, but beneath the coy grin is the little known lie that its all an illusion. Power meant to make every contour a little more perfect, each lash a bit more full. To say Wesley is attractive is one thing, but it all depends on whether or not you're under his spell. He demands attention and it isn't hard to garner. Maintaining both a well dressed and healthy visage are important to the man.

Standing at just over six feet, Wesley is tall and has a fair amount of muscle to his frame considering, but remains relatively wiry in build and overall appearance. Self care and beauty have become second nature, and as a result, Wesley is a strikingly gorgeous face among the masses. His blonde hair used to be much shorter but in recent years he's taken to letting it grow, and it's now twisted down past his shoulders. Most days he keeps it tied up so it's not in the way while he works. Wesley's eyes are a light hazel in color.

Personality

From a young age Wesley has always been very quiet, but as he grew older that cautious silence grew into one of mystique instead. He was less afraid of what was outside of his door and more willing to admire the world around him, although most of that had to do with the intrinsic nature of the Toreador clan curse. Everything became something to study for its inherent beauty. Wesley has a difficult time multitasking due to his inability to break his focus from anything that appeals to his sense of wonder.

Most people expect Wesley to be as loud and demanding as his fellow Toreador Kindred, and while he wouldn't outright deny his own vanity, he prefers the intimacy of a small group over one sided spotlights and large crowds. He is well spoken, but comes across as being pompous or a bit too self centered in overall conversation. When he gets excited, he can talk for hours on end without regard for whoever else is in the room, whether or not they decide to stick around for the entire conversation.

He is trying to learn to be a better person, and fit generosity and compassion into his life. It can be difficult at times given his bloodline. Slowly though, he has become more self aware of his narcissistic tendencies.

Biography

1924 - 1934
Wesley was born during the Golden Age of Hollywood. His mother was a nameless starlet with her eyes set on making it big on the silver screen, but the only kind of work she found was in the circles that worshiped a silver spoon. While she did find some fame as an unnamed extra here and there, she soon wound up pregnant and no one would hire her. So for nine long months she did what she could to make ends meat until Wesley was finally born. Then, it was back to the set and back to the stars.
1934 - 1945
He has a vague memory of moving out of the apartments and into a house, and for a time it was happy. His mother seemed to spend more of her days with him at first. Those few, happy memories stand out as some of the only ones Wesley has of his time in Hollywood. He met the neighbor, Miss Valerie. She was young and sweet and whenever Wesley's mother was away she would always send him over to Miss Valerie's. Every Friday she would take him to the cinema. It was the highlight of his childhood.

It wasn't long before old habits returned, and Wesley began to see less and less of his mother. The truth of his mother's work finally became apparent to the boy. Wesley was 14 the first time he caught his mother with a man in the bathroom. When he left, he saw the too casual exchange of cash between his mother and the man. His mother tried to explain that it was normal but the image haunted him. So he left.

He worked under the table at a local bar, cleaning up after close, and slept in the fire escape just to get by, but he refused to go home. But, like clockwork, every Friday, he'd go to the cinema with Miss Valerie and she'd make sure he had something to eat. After a few short weeks of living on the streets, Miss Valerie gave Wesley a key to her small neighboring house. Wesley came home the following day.
1945 - 1951
He continued to work under the table until the day he turned 21. After a late night shift, he saw his mother stumbling blindly through the streets and could hardly believe his eyes. Before he knew what was happening she was cold and unresponsive in an alley, dead from an overdose. For the first time in years, he returned to the house next door, only to find it occupied by a group of men who he'd never seen before. When Wesley tried to leave, they beat him within an inch of his life. In a panic they loaded him in the back of their truck. Oh, how he'd wished that was the end of it, but Miss Valerie had heard the commotion, and soon her body was next to his. They began to drive and that was the last Wesley remembered. But it wasn't the end.

When he woke a few days later, he met a woman by the name of Rosa. She would eventually be the one to Sire Wesley. It took months for her to reveal herself as a Toreador Kindred, and Valerie's lover. She quickly took a liking to Wesley and made him a surprising offer. If he did as she asked, one day she might embrace him. Valerie had liked him well enough, and Rosa was willing to give him a chance. What started as an innocent relationship quickly turned into a clear cut position of power and submission. Rosa liked things her way, and at first Wesley found the idea strange. Living under her roof was optional, yet he could never bring himself to leave. There were others, her Childer she called them, but she didn't seem to have eyes for them as she did for Wesley.

For years she taught him many trades until she could milk his natural talents. It was all in his hands. Sculpting, needlework, he seemed to excel with his own touch. But what he really excited at was writing. It seems all the years of watching movies had finally given him some sort of talent after all. When Wesley was good, Rosa would allow him some of her blood. When his talents failed, the hunger would drive him mad. This maddening back and forth ritual of praise and punishment was enough to drive Wesley to want to leave, but he could never bring himself to walk out the door, for, as he later discovered, he'd been unwittingly made her Ghoul.

Finally, after Wesley was 27 years of age, Rosa made the decision to Embrace him. He doesn't remember much of the ensuing weeks.
1951 - 1990
Rosa found a new Ghoul to entertain herself with, and Wesley befriended some Rosa's other Childer more closely. One, an older woman by the name of Victoria Blanchard, and another by the name of Eleanor Thompson. He fell hard for Eleanor. They spent most of their time together, with the blessing of Rosa of course. For decades everything was fine, until they moved to Houston during the first month of 1990. The day they arrived, Rosa called and demanded that Eleanor return. She didn't even look back to say goodbye. Their Sire wanted them back.

Wesley spent an increasing number of nights teetering back and forth between heartache and rage. It was the closest he'd ever felt to understanding what the call of the Beast really was that everyone spoke of. He ended up front and center on a bar stool at the Maximum Buzz.

He's been there every since.

You can declare fair escape at any time
Presence is the Discipline of supernatural allure and emotional manipulation which allows Kindred to attract, sway, and control crowds.

Level 1:
  • Awe: Awe is simple but solid. Once the vampire employs this power, those who are near him or her either want to be closer to him or her or shudder in fear. It is an immediate and intense attraction, but temporal and not so overpowering that those afflicted lose their sense of self-preservation. Danger breaks the spell of fascination, as does leaving the area. Victims will remember how they felt, though, and this will affect their reactions should they ever encounter the vampire again. Awe is extremely useful in mass communication. It does not matter what is said – the hearts of those affected will lean towards the user's opinion.
Level 2:
  • Dread Gaze: This power engenders unbearable terror in its victims. Dread Gaze, like the legendary hypnotism of the cobra, stupefies the victim into madness, immobility, or reckless flight. To use this power, the vampire merely shows the mark of Caine upon him or her – bearing claws and teeth, hissing loudly and with malice. Any vampire can do this, but students of this Discipline are more insanely terrifying than mere sight can explain.
Level 3:
  • Entrancement: The Kindred makes someone obsessively want to please them.
Level 4:
  • Summon: The Kindred compels someone to come to them immediately.
Level 5:
  • Majesty: The Kindred appears as a figure of absolute power and authority. Where a charismatic, skilled vampire with Awe [1] may impress at a street corner, or drink undisturbed in a back alley, the power of Majesty [5] can influence an area of effect alike a small concert hall or theater full of people.

Level 6:
  • Aire of Elation: Make everything you do seem so hilarious it incapacitates people
  • Capture Reality: Project the essence of a scene through photographs or film
  • Force of Personality: People are forced away from you by your aura
  • Intensification : Create an object that instills a particular emotion in those who view it
  • Love : Make someone enamored with you as if in a blood bond
  • Melusine's Song: Command someone through song
  • Paralyzing Glance: Send someone into a seizure of terror
  • Passion: Fill a person or group with lust, greed, anger, or fear
  • Renew the Earthly Pleasures: Overwhelm a vampire with mortal feelings
  • Siren's Song: Instill particular emotions in a group through music
  • Spark of Rage: Provoke a group of people to Frenzy
  • Star Magnetism: Make those who see you in pictures or films in awe of you
  • Two-Tiered Communication: Subliminally say different things to someone than what is heard publically
  • Vengeance of the Martyr's Legacy: Compel all the vampire's descendants Frenzy
Level 7:
  • Cooperation: Lessen hostilities and promote cooperation in a group
  • Fires of Conviction: Embolden a crowd to riot in the name of some cause
  • Mask Empathy: Cut emotional bonds between people
  • Mind Numb: Drain the people around you of motivation or incentive to act
  • Phobia: Make someone irrationally afraid of something
  • Scourging the Instinct: Whip a crowd into a controlled frenzy
  • Unholy Penance: Fill someone with guilt and the desire to beg forgiveness
  • Vengeance of the Martyr's Legacy: Force all the vampire's descendants to Frenzy

R o w a n

"People see the horns and they assume that I'm some kind of monster. Sometimes? I'm not so sure they're wrong."
NAME: Francine Rowan Doyle - goes by Rowan
RACE: Tiefling
GENDER: Female
AGE: 27
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Neutral
DEITY: Obanir the Tongue Dripped in Silver
"She claims to follow Obanir, but I've never once seen her solve a problem with words and clever banter."
CLASS: Martial-Rapier
BLOODLINE: Beastbrood
APPEARANCE: Rowan has a striking complexion due to an uncommon, yet harmless, skin condition her father attributes to being the spawn of a demon. She has dark, tanned skin with pale, freckled patches over the bridge of her nose and both of her arms. Her eyes are a deep lavender, not unmistakable for gray at a distance. Platinum in color, her hair is long and unkempt. Rowan often keeps her thick locks tied back to avoid any real type of maintenance. Two horns protrude from either side of her head just behind her temples. The base of the horns are gnarled and thick, and they do not point out very far. She is otherwise of average height and a lean build from many years on the road. Typically she can be seen in cropped leather armor and loose fitting tunics.

PERSONALITY: She tried to be good, once upon a time, and play the political social game the high lords and ladies played. No more. At face value Rowan is a crass, but jovial individual. Most people already expect deviancy from her, and so she acts the part. Rowan is happy to give in to her most primal desires, what others might consider unforgivable sins. She indulges in different pleasures with no regard to consequence and blames it on her inherent nature. Drink, lust, coin, they all satiate some kind of desire she believes is a natural part of being cursed. Rowan is otherwise easygoing and indifferent to the stigmas of others race or bloodline.

There is still a small part of her which craves the acceptance of others, or maybe it's attention. Rowan isn't entirely sure herself. She knows what kind of creature she is and she takes no joy in being an outcast. But to display weakness would only open her up to all of society to prod and poke at, and she doesn't like the idea of giving away an opportunity to be wounded, and so she does her best not to care.

HISTORY: There was nothing beautiful or blessed about the day Rowan was born. When she came from her mother's womb and into the world, screaming and crying with her infantile lungs, she was deemed as wicked and wretched as the creature that truly bore her. With horns on either side of her head, there was no mistaking that the infant born between the Lord and Lady Doyle was nothing other than the spawn of a Demon. Having done nothing but live for the briefest of moments, her own mother threatened to declare the child dead and cast her in the river. Some days, Rowan thinks that might have been the right choice for everyone. It was her father, Lord Benedict Doyle, who swore his wife, Francesca, to secrecy for the sake of their reputation. For years, the couple had tried to conceive, praying to any deity that would listen. When their prayers went unanswered, Benedict turned to the only other force capable of giving him what he wanted. And so, through an unholy deal, Rowan came to be.

She spent the early years of her life in relative normalcy in the Southern region of Dorothea. To keep what he'd done a secret, her father would pull his young daughter aside and file down her horns until they were levelled with her skull. But, he couldn't hide her impish nature, and gossip spread that something was wrong with Rowan from a very early age. She had the strong features of her father, and the hair of her mother, but her glowing lavender eyes spun tales of demonic origin.

When Rowan was fifteen, she was sent away with her mother for her unruly behavior. In truth, her father had planned their death as a means to make way for a life with his mistress. She was a pretty young thing with a swollen belly. He had grown weary of trying to hide the truth of his daughter's identity and wanted to put an end to the mistake he'd made all those years ago. Rowan's father paid a hefty sum to a group of thugs to act as their caravan guards, with orders to execute the two women when they approached the border of the Nature's Throat. His plan backfired when the caravan was ambushed by a group of rogue elves. Rowan was just able to slip through the chaos, finding company with a wounded caravan guard. She'll never forget when he told her he'd 'rather live with a hellspawn than die by a flesh eatin' elf'. His cowardice saved her life.

In a twist of fate, Rowan has spent the last decade with her would be murderer turned ally, Esra Thorne, wandering the border between human and elf picking up odd jobs along the way. Mercenary work is nice when they can find it, but the two aren't above pilfering to make a living. She can't help but feel like he'll turn her over for a sack of gold, but she wouldn't have it any other way. Last she heard, her father had three children of his own and was living a bit too comfortably in her childhood home.

And so, through an unholy deal, Rowan came to be.

She spent the early years of her life in relative normalcy in the Southern region of Dorothea. Her mother came out of her postpartum depression and eventually started to reach out to the young girl, a relationship young Rowan desperately craved. It was the once a month manicure, so her father called it, that she quickly learned was anything but normal. When Rowan's horns grew long enough to be visible, her father would take her into his room and lock them inside. They wouldn't emerge until they were filed down to her skull. It was the only way he knew he could hide what he'd done, or risk execution.

It was on a trip to East Dorothea that took mother and daughter too close to the Nature's Throat. Just fifteen at the time, Rowan was told she was being sent to their summer home for her unruly behavior. In reality the truth was much more grim. Benedict had grown tired of hiding his mistake and had taken up a close relationship with an unwed mistress. She was pregnant with his child. The choice for the Lord was simple, and so he paid off a group of thugs to act as the guards for his wife and daughter's trip. The caravan guards turned on the two women, only for the threat to become very real to even the guards. A group of elves took advantage of the chaos and Francesca lost her life in the ensuing skirmish. Rowan was able to slip past guards and elf alike, finding company with a wounded caravan guard. She'll never forget when he told her he'd 'rather live with a hellspawn than die by a flesh eatin' elf'. His cowardice saved her life.

In a twist of fate, Rowan has spent the last decade with her would be captor turned ally, Esra Thorne. She can't help but feel like he'll turn her over for a sack of gold, but she wouldn't have it any other way.

D O M I N I K

"Quit breaking my shit! Damn... anyone have a smoke?"
NAME: Dominik
RACE: Human
GENDER: Male
AGE: 28

Nickname:
Nik

Birth:
August 14th, 2042 | Wartburg, Germany

Family:
Grandfather | Tomasz Novak
Father | Bruno Novak | Deceased
Mother | Marianne Pederson | Deceased

APPEARANCE:
Dominik is tall, dark, and handsome. Really. Standing above most of the residents of Wartburg at a height just over six feet, the man sticks out in a crowd. He is muscular, but not overly so, most of his strength comes from working in a shop from dawn until dusk, keeping his body toned. The same shop earned him a myriad of scars. From stitches to nicks in his hands, Dominik has experienced them all. His only regret is that some of the cuts have marked up his tattoos in an unpleasant way. Dozens of different pieces of ink cover his body; his chest, his hands, and all the way up his arms.

Hair:
A dark brown buzz cut.

Eyes:
Ice blue, silver around his iris.

Identifying Features:
Tattoos | Abs | Hands | Chest
Gauges
Visible scars on his wrists, less visible scars on his thighs, from a suicide attempt in his teens
Various scrapes, scars, and burns from learning his trade
Always has a cigarette pack on him

Height:
6'1" | M

Weight:
205lbs | X kg

PERSONALITY:
Dominik is a genius wasting his efforts in all the wrong places. There is so much potential for him to do good, make progress for mankind, but he'd rather work on his car and find a cute girl to take to bed. He's the kind of guy who wants you to know he's smarter, and he damn well is. Although, it's a kind of street smart that doesn't compare with the book smarts of the Templar's resident techie. Better defined as being witty or sarcastic. Most people are incredibly put off by his forward nature and brash personality. He'll say what he means, what he likes, and he'll probably be right about it, too. People just don't like him at a glance. That being said, Dominik isn't entirely unpleasant to be around when he's being polite. So long as you can get him to be civil. Dominik does very little to invoke any kind of positive relationship with people, preferring to have acquaintances and friends with benefits rather than best friends. His crude nature probably has something to do with his difficulties making lasting bonds. Either that, or the rumors that he's cursed.

Magic:
Can't use magic, but he doesn't have strong opinions either way about those who do.

Skills:
Mechanic | Gearhead | Demolitions | Weapons Expert

Languages Spoken:
German | Polish

Equipment:
Revolver | Shotgun | Tire Iron | Harness and Armor

Dominik isn't opposed to going out into a fight, guns blazing, but his skills are better put in the shop making sure the helicopters and tanks are functioning. When not in his harness, he typically wears a pair of overalls without strapping them on.

HISTORY:
When Dominik was born, his grandfather once said he'd be nothing but trouble. He was right, but not for the reasons anyone would imagine. When the boy had barely turned one, his mother was attacked and killed by a gargoyle. A few short months later, his father turned to drinking and walked straight into a monster den on his way home from the bar. At least, that's the story everyone told, his body was never found. Monsters, they said, probably devoured what was left of him. Misfortune always seemed to follow poor Dominik, no matter where he went. The neighbors who took him in after the death of his father were mauled by beasts, but not Dominik. The toddler was left without a scratch, and that's when the rumors started to circulate that the baby was cursed.

The small German outpost just beyond Wartburg Castle tolerated the boy until his Grandfather made the journey from his homeland, Poland, to care for his only descendant. From then on, he was considered an outcast and unwanted by the small town he was born to. Tomasz was bitter about having to leave his life behind as a successful mechanic for the Templar efforts in Poland, but family was family, and he made the trip without any hesitation. There would always be Templars, and there would always be beasts on the roads, but there would only ever be one more Novak. When asked if he'd do it again, he might be quick to say no, but don't believe a word. Tomasz and Dominik share a close and loving bond.

As Dominik grew, his troubles only continued. Many of his friends and close acquaintances had great misfortunes fall on them. Even the Templars of Wartburg believed he was an ill omen. After his grandfather lost an arm and his teenage friend died, it was enough to make the boy believe that he was cursed. At the age of thirteen, Dominik attempted to kill himself by cutting his wrists. His grandfather was the one who found him, and ultimately saved his life. They don't talk much about what happened. Dominik never tried again, but from then on his life was a complete facade. From then on, he was the life of every party, the voice in every crowd. He projected himself out into the world so no one would ever dare come close enough to make him hurt again.

Somewhere along the line his grandfather taught him a decent trade, fixing broken things. Though their relationship greatly suffered after Tomasz nearly lost his grandson. Tomasz was satisfied knowing his own knowledge wouldn't go to waste, what with his arm gone, but the two rarely spoke outside of their shop lessons. Tomasz was afraid of losing the only family he ever knew, and Dominik was afraid that whatever curse followed him would take his grandfather. Without either knowing, they drifted apart, both never admitting to the loneliness swelling in their hearts.
