Life Is Always Changing

"Okay." Cadence replied, following Ezra onto the elevator then to his mother's room where she walked in and saw his mother. 'A good friend of his', that was what he said and it somehow made her happy to hear it though it was surprising he decided to say that about her. Cadence walked up to his mother, giving her a kind gently smile before she introduced herself even though Ezra already did it. "Yes, I'm Cadence. It's nice to meet you Mrs. Morrington." She stated, "And this is Daisy, she's..." Cadence paused. For Daisy, Cadence gave in and said that she was the girl's mother but she really was her sister but she didn't know which to say in a situation like this.

Daisy went up to the hospital bed, looking up at Ezra's mother. "I've never meant a queen before! We got you flowers." Daisy stated, pointing to the flowers in Cadence's hands. "Mommy has them."

Cadence hesitated for a moment when she heard that Daisy said mommy, she didn't know how to react to it but she did have the flowers in her hand. "Oh, yes, here." She stated, showing the flowers to his mother.

"Oh, how sweet! You shouldn't have! Your so kind!" Ezra ushered Cadence to give her the flowers. Ezra chuckled a bit when Daisy called his mom a queen. She smiled at the little girl and ushered her to come over to her.

"Dear child, you said your name is Daisy? Your mom seems like an amazing lady. Now tell me, what do you think of my son here? Since I'm a queen, does that make him a prince?" Ezra blushed a bit. His mother looked over at Ezra.

"You have to work today honey?"

Ezra nodded.

"Yeah, so I can't stay long. We'll go see dad before we leave though"

Daisy giggled to Ezra's mother, then nodded. "Yup, he's the prince." She replied back, looking over at Ezra then back to his mother who was laying in her hospital bed. Meanwhile, Cadence actually had gotten a slight blush thanks to the compliment that his mother had given her. She took the flowers in her hand and placed them into a vase, then filled it up with some water. She then placed it on the table by the bed.

"These are for the King too!" Daisy mentioned, showing the flowers that were in her hand when they had mentioned Ezra's father. They would probably have to go to him soon but it was nice to spend a little time with his mother. Cadence finished what she was doing, then came back over to the others, giving another smile to his mother.

Ezra's mother smiled at Daisy.

"You be sure to look out for this prince. Sometimes he can be a lot of trouble. Make sure he stays out of trouble, OK?"

She then turned to Cadence.

"My son seems to be a lot happier with you around. Please help him. As soon as I woke up, I learned of my daughters death. He seemed to be very depressed and shaken up about it. Please, stay by his side and help him"

Daisy nodded, "I'll try my best." The little girl said, then looked over at Ezra like she was watching his every move, like she was doing exactly as his mother wanted her too. While, he most likely wasn't going to get into any trouble in the hospital, the little girl didn't know that difference and wanted to do what the mother said for her to do.

Cadence suddenly felt her face heat up, like she was beginning to blush again when she heard what his mother said to Cadence. Why was she blushing so much lately? "Don't worry." She replied without any thought, "I'm not going anywhere. I'll be right by his side the whole entire time. Besides, he's already helping me even from his first introduction to me." Cadence took Daisy's hand so that they could head off to his father when Ezra was ready for it. Cadence would try her best to make Ezra happy again, somehow, she would help out the family because they seemed to be making her and Daisy happy.

Ezra walked over to his mother and pulled her into a gentle embrace.

"Alright, go see your father. I'll see you again soon! I start my physical therapy tomorrow so I'll be sure to call and tell you how that goes, ok?"

Ezra smiled and nodded.

"Ok! I'll be waiting for that call! Love you mom!"

As they left, he waved goodbye to his mother and then they headed over to his father's room. Walking in, Ezra took a seat next to his dad's bed. His dad looked over and saw Ezra.

"Hey there champ! This your friend you were talking about?"

Ezra chuckled softly.

"Yeah. This is Cadence, my dear friend from school..."

His dad reached out a hand in a gesture of friendship. His smile mirrored that of Ezra's.

"I'm Ezra's father, Eli Morrington. It's a pleasure to meet you"

Cadence gave a smile to his mother, "Say bye Daisy." She stated, which got the little girl saying her good byes to the mother for now. "We'll come visit again." Cadence added towards the end, just before they left the hospital room then went for Ezra's father. When they got to his father's room, Cadence could see the resemblance of the relation. Another blush came onto Cadence's cheeks when Ezra said she was a dear friend of his.

"Hello, I'm Cadence." The black-haired girl replied, taking the man's hand to reply to his gesture. "And this is Daisy. She had a gift for you." Cadence walked Daisy closer. The little girl smiled at Mr. Morrington, then showed the man the flowers that she had in her little hands.

"I have these flowers for you, King." She said, sounding just like a little girl should. She reached out the flowers so Ezra's father could take a look at them.

Ezra's father reached out and gingerly took the sunflowers from the little girl. He smiled a big smile.

"Why thank you beautiful princess Daisy. Its an honor to meet you and princess Cadence. Thank you so much for taking care of this prince for me. Hope he's behaving himself around you beautiful young ladies..."

He smirked back at his son whose face was now slightly red. Ezra laughed.

"They are keeping me in line dad, don't worry"

His father laughed.

"Well that's just fantastic. Keep your eye on him so that he doesn't start causing any trouble. Ms. Cadence was it? I have a question for you. Are you dating my son?"

Ezra looked embarrassed and the blush was even more red now.

"Dad, you need to be careful what you ask up people...sorry cadence, you don't have to answer that question"

Cadence felt a sudden heat come over her when she heard what his father had asked about her relationship to Ezra. A blush came over her cheeks. She listened to what Ezra said back, but the girl still wanted to respond. "No, I'm not actually." She replied bluntly, but she didn't mean that in a mean way. "Honestly, I haven't had time to date anyone. I've been taking care of Daisy here and really haven't had the chance to hang out with anyone before....actually, before Ezra. But, thanks to him, I'm able to spend time with a friend and that makes me very happy." They may have not been dating, but already after a few short days Ezra was very important to Cadence.

Daisy began to giggle at the thought of Ezra and Cadence, it seemed to make the little girl happy. "Would he be my daddy?" The little girl then asked, pointing over at Ezra with her little girl finger and a smile on her face. The idea of having more people in their family was an idea that the girl seemed to really like. Maybe, it was something that the girl actually wanted for a while now. Everyone at her preschool had a mother and a father, but Daisy only had a mother and she was considered young so the other kids would ask her about it when they noticed.

Cadence blushed more, "I suppose whoever I date would end up being like a dad to you Daisy." She replied, unable to say anything else about it because of embarrassment but also the fact that it would most likely be true.

Ezra's dad chuckled.

"Man, what I wouldn't give to be young again. I think I would heal faster."

Ezra and his dad chatted for a while and then Ezra looked at his phone's clock. It was 5:30. He had to head out. He said goodbye and took Cadence and Daisy by the hand and escorted them out of the hospital. As they passed the flower girl shop again, Ezra went inside and picked out the same kind of bouquets. He handed the sunflower bouquet to Daisy and smiled.

"This is for you!"

He then walked over to Cadence and handed her the bouquet of assorted roses. He then did something out of character. He bent forward and placed a quick yet loving kiss on Cadence's lips. Pulling away, he placed a hand on her cheek.

"Every time I am around you, my heart beats really fast. I am happy and my depression is nonexistent. I know you have a lot of responsibility with Daisy and school. Let me help. Will you let me be your prince for real? Will you go out with me?"

When the conversation with his father was over, Ezra took the girls out of the room and they left the hospital. While on their way back, they had passed the flower shop again and it Cadence's surprise Ezra decided to go back in there. She had no idea why he would need to but when he came back out with the same flowers and started to give Daisy the sunflowers, Cadence understood that they were for them. That was when the roses were handed to her, she took them but she wasn't expecting what had happened next.

A sudden blush came over Cadence's face when she felt his lips press against hers, it was her first kiss. He had then placed his hand on her cheek and began to speak to her. Upon hearing his words, her heart suddenly felt like it jumped and it was something Cadence wasn't used to, something she had never felt before. It was all so sudden, and she didn't know what to think at first. The moment replayed through her mind a second time before she opened up her mouth to speak. "I...I suppose we could try going out. You already know about Daisy so...if you're okay with all of that, then I don't see why not to. So, okay." She replied, her blush still on her face when answering.

Daisy stared at Cadence while this was all happening, not completely sure what was going on but figuring it was something good and important because usually people kissed when they really liked each other and Ezra had just kissed Cadence. She didn't really understand the words that they were talking about but she also assumed that it probably meant they would be closer than regular friends now which the little girl liked.

Ezra smiled his usual bright smile, but now a blush tinted his cheeks. He spoke up.

"Thank you. I will do my best to take care of you and be a good boyfriend. I will help you take care of Daisy too. I hope you don't mind if I kiss you again, cause that kiss I gave you before was too brief..."

Daisy squealed with delight.

"Guess this makes you my dad now, huh?"

Before kissing her again, he smiled gently at Daisy.

"Sure does. Just like the queen said, you'll have to make sure daddy stays out of trouble, k?"

He then looked back to Cadence and smiled at her, his hand still on her cheek.

He bent forward, teasing her lips with his breath a little before kissing them again, this time the kiss a bit longer and filled with even more love than before.

As he pulled away, he whispered to her.

"I love you Cadence"

It was all happening so suddenly and next thing Cadence knew, she had a boyfriend and that boyfriend was Ezra; guess she could go back and tell his father that they were dating now because now what she had said to him was a lie. She could feel her blush darkened when he had said he wanted to kiss her again, it would be her second kiss already. She heart again, skipped a beat when she felt him get closer, then his lips touched hers and Cadence felt her eyes closed as she enjoyed the kiss until he broke away again. She reopened her eyes to hear his whispered. He loved her. He loved her. No one other than Daisy had ever said those words to her and it was much different in this context. Was she supposed to say it back, she wasn't sure. He was definitely making her feel strange, but she was never used to any of this. "I...I think I might be falling in love with you too Ezra." She replied.

Daisy was very happy it appeared, after all, she was getting someone else in her life that wasn't Cadence. She could have a father now, even if he really wasn't but she liked Ezra and he seemed like he could play the role pretty good. She smiled up at the new couple, giggling with excitement.

Ezra pulled back and smiled at Cadence. He was so lucky. Her words that she might be in love with him too, it made his heart beat even faster.

"Good, I am glad you recognize that you may gave feelings for me. I hope you develop those feelings even more as we go out more."

Looking at his clock, it was 10 minutes until he had to go to work. He looked to Cadence and smiled.

"Call me before you go to bed tonight so we can talk a little more please. I have to run. Be safe, both of you!" He placed a kiss on both their hands and rushed off to work.

The girls waved with their free hand as Ezra was leaving. She watched him as he left to go to work, giving him a nod just before when he asked for her to call him later that night. With him gone, Cadence took Daisy back home and began their usual nightly routine. She helped the girl with anything she needed, made her dinner, gave her a bath then put her in bed. Once that was finished, Cadence took some time to just sit there, thinking over what happened that day. So, she had a boyfriend now. It was strange to think, she never thought that would ever happen. But, he cared about her and he didn't think something strange about her because of Daisy. He liked her too.

Cadence picked up her phone, seeing that it was getting late in the night. He had asked for her to call him. She dialed his number, waiting for him to pick up. She didn't know what she was going to talk about with him, but it sounded like it might be nice to talk before she went to sleep. "Ezra? It's Cadence." She stated.

Ezra finished up his work at the cafe and he hung up his apron in the back. He called out to the manager.

"I'm headed home!"

The manager poked his head out of the corner.

"You in a hurry?"

Ezra laughed and waved.

"Actually yes. I have to call my girlfriend and talk about what we are going to do tomorrow. I'm going over to her house tomorrow to serenade her with my guitar!"

His manager laughed.

"You go then!"

Running home, he quickly he threw his bag by the front door and headed to the bathroom, taking a warm shower to wash away the stress and the worries of that day. As he washed off his sweat covered body, he couldn't stop thinking about Cadence and Daisy. Especially Cadence. Her smile always sent his stress away and made his heart beat fast. As he finished washing up, he stepped out of the shower. Just at that moment, his phone started to ring. Looking at it, it was Cadence. He stepped out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around his waist and answered. He heard her voice speak up. He smiled as he took another towel to dry his hair.

"Hey Cadence! It's so good to hear your voice! Thanks for calling! How's Daisy? Is she asleep already?" he took a seat on his bed, throwing the extra towel to the side.

Cadence heard Ezra's voice from the other line. "She's fine. Yeah, she's asleep. I put her to bed a little while ago." She commented back, holding the phone tightly. It was something new, talking to someone for the sake of just talking to them over the phone. She had no one to do that with before and it wasn't like Daisy had a phone yet. Honestly, with Cadence's pay she probably wouldn't be able to afford getting Daisy a phone. Hopefully, the girl wouldn't grow up too fast and want one all of a sudden.

"How are you?" Cadence then said, figuring it was the right thing to say next. They had just seen each other, she really had nothing to say to him yet she liked hearing his voice on the other side off the phone. She wanted to talk with him even if there was nothing to talk about. "So, you'll be coming over tomorrow still, right?"

Smiling, Ezra 's heart continued to beat fast, just at the sound of her voice.

"Good. I'll glad she's OK. I'm doing well. Work was a bit crazy but I had a lot of fun! Yes, I still plan on coming tomorrow if that's OK. Remind me of what we planned on cooking for Daisy"

For the life of him he couldn't remember what they had planned to feed her and he wanted to make sure that she had a lot of fun while he was there.

"Spaghetti, it's one of her favorites and for dessert, chocolate cake." Cadence replied. She didn't mind reminding him, it gave them something to talk about because she wanted to continue, even if it was starting to get later and they had school the next day. "Hey, Ezra...where do you work?" She then asked. It seemed that Cadence was able to talk more once she started to open up to a person. Before, she only said simple things to reply back to him but when she was starting to get to know him more, she could start the conversation as well. "Maybe Daisy and me could visit you there sometimes, if it's a place that we can. You could even visit me too while I'm at work, I usually take Daisy along with me because the manager allows it since she knows my situation."

Ezra nodded and his smile didn't fade.
"Ok, i will remember that. I work at the cafe just a little northwest from the school. Its a family diner so it would be completely safe for Daisy to come.In fact, those coupons I gave you include a free childs entree with the purchaseof an adult entree so I would hope you would come in and visit me. I also would love to come visit you at your work. Where do you work?"
