LGBTQ+ History Month is an annual month-long observance celebrating the history and accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community and its many important figures. Its goal is to educate about the history of the LGBTQ+ movement, what course of action will be successful in building communities, and highlight great role models to represent and address the issues of the LGBTQ+ community

History:
It was created by Missouri high-school history Rodney Wilson in 1994 as a call to action for the LGBTQ+ movement. He thought that there should be a month devoted to the celebration and education of gay and lesbian history. To accomplish this, he gathered other community leaders and teachers. They selected October, because school would be in session and it would coincide with existing celebrations, such as National Coming Out Day, and to commemorate the anniversary of the first and second marches on Washington in 1979 and 1987 for LGBTQ+ rights.

The month-long commemoration is primarily celebrated within the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Hungary, Brazil, and the city of Berlin. However, in some countries, particular months of celebration vary. For instance, in the United Kingdom and Hungary, it is celebrated in February; and in Berlin, the holiday is celebrated in June and is known as Queer History Month.

LGBTQ+ History Month has been endorsed by a number of queer rights groups, including GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and the National Education Association.

2022 Icons
Every day a new icon will be highlighted in a video.

Task:
Each year, to celebrate the achievements of the extraordinary role models within the LGBT+ community, 31 lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender icons are selected. This year includes people like Hans Christan Anderson, Matt Bomer, Alice Wu, and Sue Bird. You can find the full list of this year's icons on their website here.

In the comments, discuss a member of the LGBT+ community who you view as an icon or role model.
