Vincent Hall | 24 | Rhythm Guitarist

Occupation: Line Cook

Years of Experience: 14 with electric and acoustic guitar (those two years of piano lessons in his childhood don't count). His idols include Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, Jake Pitts, Seth Morrison, and Prince.

Identity:
Since his exposure to classic rock music at the age of ten, Vince has always thought of himself as Foreigner's "Jukebox Hero" and romanticized the idea of being able to play in a professional rock band since his pre-teen years. He was in and out of several school bands, most of which lacked the same dedication that he possessed, always hoping to find one that would take him to the top. When he's not playing, he's a very personable and fun-loving individual who doesn't take life very seriously outside his imagined music career. His family and peers generally think of him as reckless and irresponsible.

kim-jae-wook-is-watching-you-o.gif

Strengths:
Vince has an intense focus when it comes to his music and he constantly pushes himself to become better. He's able to see clearly from point A to point B in addition to being a big-picture-person, which makes him very good at planning for things in his interest and understanding others' points of view.

Weaknesses:
He has a tendency to be harsh to his bandmates during practice, his personal life is very disorganized and inconsistent, he has trouble holding onto a job, has bad eyesight and often forgets to wear corrective lenses.

Family/Relationships:
  • Parents - Stephen Hall (55) & Erin Hall (49)
  • Little Sister - Laurie Hall (13)
  • Little Brother - Joseph Hall (12)
  • Best Friend - Hillel Cohen (22)

Brief Bio:
When Vince's parents were a young couple they were unable to have children and adopted him as an infant. Nothing was known of his biological parents other than that his birth mother was a U.S. citizen. Vince was an only child till he was eleven, when his mother got pregnant with his little sister Laurie who, after she was born, was followed closely by his brother Joseph. For the most part they were a happy family, but seeing his mother with her own children ignited a longing within Vince to find his birth mother, though he never once felt unloved by his adopted family.
Unable to sort out his feelings on the matter, Vince threw himself headlong into his music. During his slightly-emo phase in high school, he joined a dedicated cover band and never enjoyed himself as much as while he was mimicking his favorite songs. The band broke up after graduation, and Vince went to college the following semester. He ended up dropping out before the year was over, but remained close friends with his roommate Hillel. Convinced that academia was not for him, he spent his time in-between jobs searching for a band he could commit himself to, much to his family's dismay. They'd had higher hopes for their eldest son.
At long last patience and practice paid off and he was no longer writing songs by himself, having finally found a group willing to follow his lead and put up with his "go big or go home" attitude. In spite of anything he says, he has more trust in his bandmates than he's willing to admit, and truly believes that together they will succeed.

Bandships:
Rob Lowell - former coworkers, Rob first introduced Vince to the band
Nausicaä Quasimodo - Casual friends, met through Rob
Daphne Davidson - recruited her, treats her like his little sister
Solly Redtler - met through Rob, good friends
Tam Sanchez - recruited her via her YouTube channel, there's a lot of friendly bickering between them

Audition:
Vince balanced on his toes, bouncing in anticipation. He waited, gripping the neck of and letting his right hand hover over the body of his electric guitar. He was tuned and ready to go, with the amp set to allow for just the slightest distortion, and now set his foot to hover over the floor pedals. He breathed in deep and out halfway, then struck a soul-wrenching chord that launched him into a riff he'd composed himself. He closed his eyes and picked from memory as he pictured himself standing on an enormous stage surrounded by colored lights and smoke with a crowd screaming in delight. He played with all his heart, with all the unwavering confidence of someone who knows that someday he won't have to imagine.

Years of Experience: Started his music life in a church choir as a young boy. This persisted for until his teenage years were he discovered Punk rock, namely British bands such as the Sex Pistols and Crass. During his high school years he was part of several casual garage bands but he always sought out something more serious.

Identity: A musician and an anarchist. He feels that he is a rather friendly person who is willing to try and get people to understand how he thinks and why he is correct. He feels that his music career is the most important thing in his life that he must pursue until he achieves greatness.

Strengths: High energy, massive lung capacity, naturally athletic body, intelligent, great performer

Weaknesses: Lazy, not dependable, has a nack for pissing off the wrong people, scares people away with his intensity and passion

Family/Relationships: He lives with his older sister Rachael, hasn't spoken to parents in a couple of years. He has a small collection of close friends.

Brief Bio: Rob grew up in a Catholic household were he developed his massive disdain for authority. He made his way through highschool barely scraping by before moving away with his sister. Over several years he has worked several low paying jobs while trying to find a serious band with potential.

Bandships:

Vince Hall- Former coworker who Rob introduced to the band
Anastasia Fournival- Close friend since high school

Solomon Redtler- Casual Rival

Audition:

Rob took a moment to clear his throat and take a drink before beginning. He took the microphone in his hands and with a long breath shouted, "Yes that's right, punk is dead." He kept the rhythm and kept his pronunciation clear even as he gradually increased his speed. "It's just another cheap product for the consumer's head." As he sang and shout he moved about the stage, jumping and kicking all the while not missing a single note. He continued on as he near flawlessly gave an energetic performance of Crass's "Punk Is Dead".

Identity:
Thinks of herself as an avatar of Dionysus, the Greek Goddess of Wine and Actors. In the Summer, she enjoys showing skin. Others see her as wild and misdirected, her current career as an erotic model contributing to the fact. Her family is generally accepting and supportive.

Strengths:
Formally taught
Writing experience
Family money

Weaknesses:
"Where do I know her from..."
Vain and sometimes even arrogant
Tied down to family

Family/Relationships:
Monica Fournival - Mother

Monique Fournival - Older Sister
Joshua Fournival - Younger Brother
Venus Atelier - Maternal Cousin
Esteban Buenavista - Close Friend
Vincent Ricketts - Abusive Ex-Boyfriend

Brief Bio:
Schooled from a young age in music, Anastasia had a love for arts since childhood. As she grew older, her interests changed from Classical to Rock, Mozart to Muse. In her teenage years, her interests became harder and edgier, leading to her current interest in Punk. Her fashion changed with her interests until leather jackets and sleeveless shirts dominated her wardrobe.

Coming from a well-to-do family, she moved to college after she graduated, and is currently on her third semester studying Musical Theory. She took on a job as a pin-up model to keep herself fed and her equipment maintained. Now her tastes are broadening still, and while her main squeeze maintains Punk, she's started getting into EDM and R&B.

She got out of an abusive relationship a few months ago and is trying to stay away from her ex in case he tries to force his way back into her life.

Bandships:
Rob Lowell - Friends since High School
Solomon Redtler - College friend, Musical Theory study partner
Vince Hall - Met through Rob, had an awkward patch after she broke up with Vincent.

Audition:
First, note her setup. On one foot, a bass pedal, almost a given, of course. On the other, a bass drum. She starts off by smacking a beat off the drum to base her solo off. She begins plucking, two fingers working hard at a heavy, slow tempo. Behind her thumb is a pick. A mellow tune results, but sixteen beats in and she stops subtly. Her foot is still drumming, this time a beat instead of a tempo. The pick enters her fingers and she blurts a garage-y, hyped up jam a la Bikini Kill. Basic, but requisite for a punk bassist.

Eight beats of the repetitive noise and she switches again, this time to a bass break drawing inspiration from Arctic Monkeys. A vast change would rack your perception - chaos to control. A few bars into that and a turn of the pedal later and the tune changes to George Thorogood and The Destroyers. Greasy riffs hit the ears like waves (of hair grease) against a dam (of pompadoured hair). To showcase her voice, she slides into the chorus of "I Drink Alone".

"'Cause I drink alone
Yeah
With nobody else
I drink alone
Yeah
With nobody else
You know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself"

Her voice is petite and raspy, but mature and elegant. Obviously, she prefers singing over screaming, but she sounds like she could pull it off if she had to. After the chorus, she ends her bass with a flair, throwing some extra notes in for an effective, fun finish.

[fieldbox="Daphne Davidson, #006699, dotted"]
Name: Daphne Davidson
Age: 19
Role: Drummer (Used to be the partial manager)
Occupation:
Daphne is a party, wedding, and event planner. She works for a larger company but hopes to have her own company one day. (Unless the band makes it big, because that's her ultimate dream). She's still getting settled into her career and lives with her brother in an apartment since she wanted to move out but couldn't afford to be by herself yet.

Years of Experience:
Daphne currently has no band experience, unless you count countless hours watching bands on YouTube and booking them for her client's events. Daphne does have eight years of drumming experience, her older brother took lesson and then taught her until one day she surpassed his abilities and began to teach him.

Identity:
Daphne's PoV:
Daphne sees herself as a misunderstood individual. She is torn between being very mechanical, and thinking very straight forward, and just living her life and letting things be. Daphne thinks in beats, numbers, and she's very analytical. Everything has a spot and a place, when she is drumming everything has a beat and she doesn't like to improvise, even though she is creative. She thinks creativity needs to be thought prior to execution of the creativity. (She likes to plan and think about creativity but creativity needs to be planned). Daphne sees herself as a helper, a person who is here to only silently lead. She's not a true leader, she feels like she doesn't stand out in a crowd, but she's the behind the curtains kind of person. Daphne believes things wouldn't be the same without her even if nobody knows it.

Other people's PoV of Daphne:
A lot of people see Daphne as a regular stranger on the street until they get to know her. Sometimes they get a peek into the wonderful world going on inside of her mind but often don't realize they have barely scratched the surface. Daphne is a loud laugher and you can basically tell if she is amused with you or hates what you are doing because she appears to be a very blunt person who spares no feelings. People see her as organized because it blatantly obvious by the way she acts and when she's silent she's usually fixing something, putting something away, straightening something out, etc. Even though she is organized and likes things to be just right she's still funny and super outgoing. (She sees herself less outgoing then people think). She knows how to have fun but also knows when to reign it in though she is still often called a buzz kill. People can see her ideas and they wouldn't guess she has to really think about them and make sure plans will work before she expresses her mind. People just assume she can think on her feet, which isn't true.

Strengths:
Daphne is creative, somewhat outgoing, organized, analytical, can think herself out of problems and solve situations fairly well, and she's mindful of people's feelings.

Weaknesses:
Daphne can be too organized, she can retreat to a 'shell' when she feels like she's being picked on, she gets embarrassed easily, and she really is OCD. If things aren't set just right sometimes it makes her nauseous and she has to fix it before she can think of anything else. Also, once again, she can't just come up with ideas. She has to really think about them, though when they come out her ideas can be pretty great.

Family/Relationships:
Mother: Daphne isn't close to her mother. She never really understood her mom or the decisions she made in life that ended in getting a divorce and not being able to take care of her children. She still sees her from time to time but it's a civil relationship.

Father: Daphne and her father are best friends. They barely have the daughter/father relationship because he's really loose and carefree. He isn't organized but he has his life together enough that he could take care of two children. Daphne often parents him but she takes it light heartedly knowing he has done a lot for her.

Brother: His name is Daxton (age 23) and he is Daphne's other best friend, her dad being the other one. Daxton is a very well organized person who dreams big, plays several instruments, is majoring in two things in college, and is very outgoing. He got Daphne out of her shell and tries to give her a life she wouldn't have if she stayed who she was when she was younger. He loves to play music but hates performing for other people, he only plays in front of his father and Daphne. He pushes Daphne to get over the fear of not trying, his goal is to make her a better person then he is. He works well with very few people, which is another reason why he could never be in a band. Which is okay with him, he thinks life has too many options to be tied down to one forever.

Brief Bio:

Daphne lived a fairly normal life, a normal household, brother-sister relationship, etc. Though it all changed when she was fifteen and her mother and father got divorced. This divorce seemed completely out of the blue but really her parents hadn't been happy in a fairly long time and they just kept it in the background. When Daphne graduated high school she learned more about it and it was pretty messy with everything that happened.

Throughout all the hardships of this divorce her brother, Daxton, had his own apartment with a couple of friends so she would often spend time over there to just live life. They grew even closer in this time and her drumming lessons became more intense with her brother, she took out her anger on the drums. Her brother learned how her mind worked and taught her she could still be a likeable person, not some boring stiff person, even though she thinks very mechanically sometimes. He basically made her a creative person and if it wasn't for the divorce then Daphne and Daxton probably wouldn't be very close, so she has that to thank.

When she was 16 she was offered an externship with a high profile planner, because of her new creative outlook on life and her organized thoughts The Planner thought she could be very gifted in the area of party planning!( Which is much underrated job and pays well if you are good enough). Daphne began working for this person and when she graduated The Planner's gift to her was to hire her as a paid employee instead of an unpaid intern.
Daphne still works under her, it's only been a year since graduation, but she gets paid enough to pay for rent with her brother who lives in an apartment with her. Daphne gets her own small parties, and once in a while helps with a bigger wedding, but still finds plenty of time to play her drums, write music/lyrics, and live life.

Bandships:
Vince Hall-Daphne was recruited for the band by Vince, who had previously met Daxton and asked him to join but referred him to Daphne. Vince is like another brother figure to Daphne.
Rob Lowell-
Anastasia Fournival-
Daphne gets along well with Anastasia but also sees her as a rival. They have clashing personalities and often differ in opinions but still get along well. (Yin and Yang situation)
Solly Redtler- Daphne is closest to Solly and lets him see behind her shell. She also loves to hear from him and what his problems are, she finds it easy to listen to him. Their relationship is complicated though...
Alexandrina Steele-
Tam Sanchez-

Audition:

The numbers flashed in Daphne's head just like they did every time she sat down by her drums. The 5,6,7,8 lead off pulsed in her mind, her foot barely tapping, she breathed an unnoticeable breath and began to drum. The drum sticks in her hand had her brother's name carved into one and her name carved into the other, they were held loosely in her grasp so they could move and play, a flick of her wrist was all it took to hit a beat, her shoulders occasionally moved and bounced too, almost like she was dancing with just her shoulders. The beat played in her head with the counts almost being visible inside her mind, she could see the numbers and feel the music she was playing. Small criticisms would slip into her mind but the numbers held on strong and she continued to play, later she would scold herself for not hitting her crash cymbal as hard as it should have been it, though it probably had gone unnoticed by everyone else. She became the music and when it ended she longed for it once more, this very feeling is the reason why she knows she loves to play.

Name: Alexandrina 'done with having Queen Victoria's ridiculous first name' Steele

Age: 31

Role: Manager

Occupation: Secretary

Years of Experience:
Well, she's hardly "being in a band" material, but she's absolutely certain she could manage a band. Alex has been in that whole "managing things" business for ages. As a secretary (more like personal assistant), she manages her bosses' documents, schedule, contacts, and preps and plans their entire day - every day. She has one person she's relegated to, but she does bits and pieces for others as well; she's pretty sure she can deal with a band.

If music experience should be mentioned, she's classically trained on the piano (from 8 to 14) and the cello (from 11 to 16). Then she went through a rebellious phase in college so she played the alto sax for 4 years. Hardly the best, but she practiced daily and made up for her talent with persistence.

Identity:
Alex just does what she's happy with. If it's years of rigorous musical training or organizing a person's life, so be it. She's used to dealing with people ignoring the secretary, but they're dealt with using stern efficiency. Hard to ignore her when she's kicking someone out because they didn't have an appointment and tried to strongarm their way to her boss. She only pays enough attention to her reputation to make sure there's nothing incriminating to warrant a public lynching or an arrest. But outside of business, she relaxes and lets loose (in non incriminating ways).

On the other hand, people see her (in their worst opinion) as an ice-cold bitch. Someone who thinks they're more important than what they actually are and vindictive when someone insults her. That she's (when they think she's just a secretary) stupid or always get what she wants. Usually though, people just think she's kinda stoic, OCD about details, and not too clever if she's not ambitious enough to be "her own boss."

Strengths:
  • Secretarial work (i.e. paperwork, forms, note/minute taking, arranging and organizing things, etc.)
  • Public relations (both media and publicity)
  • Working on deadline
  • Working with tantrum throwing divas
  • Keeping calm and working through chaos
  • Punctuality
  • Persistence
  • Challenging herself
Weaknesses:
  • First impressions are very long-lasting for her
  • Making bad first impressions
  • Having inopportune bad luck. Extremely inopportune
  • Perfectionist tendencies
  • Stubborn to a scary degree
  • Rhymes. Dr. Seuss is a guilty pleasure
Family/Relationships:
> Her parents - Guinevere 'the rest of my children will suffer like I do' and Bonifus 'I beat you all in worst name' Steele: loving parents that made sure she was happy and safe as she grew up. The only problem she has with them is them continuing the awful tradition of old, very not cool, names.
> Her adopted brother - Bartholomew 'this family's naming skills suck' Steele: 6 years younger than Alex, he's a cranky little guy that wanted to move out of his parents' house but didn't want to live on his own. Of all her siblings (a total of 5), he's her favorite so she let him move in with her. They get along great.
> The rest of her siblings - Gallagher, Osbert, Reginald, and Cornelius 'we're still not used to these names' Steele: That was in descending order, just to be helpful. When she was younger, they'd either say she had cooties or treat her like a princess. The know better now. She hasn't seen them in person for a couple of months and they've got their own lives to live far away from hers.
> Her boss - Claire Tobias: she's the tantrum throwing diva Alex deals with on a daily basis. It was a rocky start, their personalities clashed, but they've gotten used to each other. Considering how much time they spend together, they're best friends.
> Her friend - Ian Thornton: he's a mess in Alex's opinion. He's actually just the opposite of her in that he's carefree and outgoing. Best guy friend she's had. They take care of each other and are very open together. No, they're not secretly in love, and no, he's not gay.

Brief Bio:
Well, she's not a rich white girl that's for sure. She's a well-off white girl. The pursuit of music began with her mom and while Alex is glad that it was introduced to her, classical music ended up not really her thing. So she went for jazz band instead. That was fun, but not her thing either. Business was. She'd work her way up to see where she found her balance was and then Alex became secretary to the advertising manager, Claire Tobias. After some time and some situations they dealt with together, she decided to stay. Life continued for a while, but then she got bored. She got back into music when she found her sax, and then she decided to combine her two loves. Music and business? Alex'll become the manager of a band.

Bandships:
Wait, not yet!

Audition:
Who has to audition for being the manager? Isn't that a bit much?

Name: Solomon 'Solly' Redtler

Age: 23

Role: Keyboardist

Occupation: Solly is a post-grad student of astrophysics, with a part-time job working at a music store and a PhD in money scrimping.

Years of Experience:

15 years, although across quite a wide range.

His parents put him through lessons in classical piano starting at five, but when he was twelve he came to the decision that Mozart sucks, and switched to jazz. He continued on with these lessons through high school, and though his time for lessons stopped with the start of college his interest didn't. With his solid and broad skillset, Solly has quite the skill when it comes to jamming, and has often done so with many friends over the last few years, playing whatever the hell they wanted.

Identity:

Solly's a pretty confident guy. He's smart, not-too-bad-looking-if-he-does-say-so-himself, and never suffered from the sorts of crippling social anxiety that some kids had to deal with at high school. He's forever curious, and therefore is almost always keenly interested in what people have to say - unless all they have to say is story after story about themselves. Because of this ability to listen - something that he's realized most guys tend to have trouble with - he considers himself quite a charmer. That being said, he finds himself more charming than other people tend to do.

A man who is always striving to reach his potential and then push past it, many view Solly as a very determined individual - sometimes to the point where they label it 'obsessive'. Despite his generally easy going nature and listen-first mentality, Solly's assuredness in his own knowledge often gets him into stupid fights about disputed facts, revealing his headstrong nature in fight-or-flight scenarios.

Strengths: Confident, intelligent, good at listening to - and remembering - things.

Weaknesses: Headstrong, overly curious, obsessive.

Family/Relationships:

Solly's on good terms with his mom, dad and 17 year old sister. However, he doesn't really get to see them much as he moved across the country to attend college.

He has a lot of friends around campus and in the professional world; an inevitability when you've been at college as long as he has. Most notable of these would be his roomates: Devon, a PhD student in microbiology who Solly's been living with since they both moved to the city and Rose, an undergrad in English Literature that Solly befriended once on a night out and soon realized was one of the nicest people he'd ever met.

Brief Bio:

Solly always describes his life as pretty normal, pretty boring. His mother is a prominent lawyer in his hometown, and provided a comfortable income for the family while his dad stayed home to take care of him and his little sister, Amelia. They were always 'comfortably well off', as his mother said: not rich per se, but far from struggling. His grades were always good, and his passion was always space, so it was little surprise when he transferred to one of the leading colleges in the country in astrophysics. Like I said, pretty normal life.

Oh, and his then-girlfriend of four years killed herself when he was seventeen.

But he doesn't like to talk about that.

Bandships:

Vince Hall: Met through the band, but they've become good friends outside it too.
Nausicaä Quasimodo: College friends, Theory Study-Buddy
Rob Lowell: Met through the band. They get along well enough, but Rob's definitely his biggest source of frustration in the group.
Daphne Davidson: Solly has a soft spot for Daphne, but that's complicated. She's the first person to talk to when he's got any problems, too.

Audition:

"Hey, guys, how ya doing? Solomon Redtler, if ya didn't know already." Solly flashed his best rockstar smile at the band, hoping it covered the fact his knees were shaking. "Fake it 'til you make it: the most important rule of being a rockstar," he'd read online.

"So, you're looking for rock, right? Well, have I got rock for you!" Solly sat down behind the keyboard, made a show of stretching his arms over his head, then began to play. Mozart's Sonata in C K.305, one of the most insufferably classical pieces ever written. After about ten seconds, he stopped, looking up with a grin on his face.

"Heh, sorry. Just a little joke. I hate that stuff anyways. How's this?"

With a crashing left hand start, Solly jumped straight into the intro of Bat out of Hell. His relaxed expression was at ends to his rapidly moving fingers, but the way his head bobbed along showed his immersion in the music. With a triumphant ending that he'd devised himself, the intro drew to a strong close.

Standing up, Solly gave them another 'rockstar smile'. "Hope you enjoyed!"

Oh man I wish I saw this earlier ;w; Is it alright if I reserve a spot for strings or is that taken?

Oh great, look at all the dweebs that'll have to be burped and cleaned up after.

Ugh. Another parenting book to the growing collection. Do music dorks need to be walked too? Or is that just a book nerds thing?

So long as you feed us three times a day and make sure we brush our teeth before we go to bed we should be A-OK. ;)

Dammit Domo, you tug my heartstrings. We were gonna have someone on strings but a CS never got submitted so I guess you can submit a CS to me for that... PM not thread. You should really check your messages more often darling x3

Lots of bands come out of Nashville (idk anything about Nashville) but we could be from conceivably anywhere, England, Australia, U.S. ...

Eh, if in the US I was thinking more Boston or New York, or West Coast.
