Lethal Reword - Tatters of the Fourth Wall

"Attacks vs. Defenses"
You have three Defenses - Fortitude, Reflex, and Will. Each is linked to a certain type of "how you defend against X". In the case of the unsettling moon here, just the sight of the sky's gaping wound is enough to make most queasy, so it makes an attack against you. It rolls a dice (d20, in this case)
. Everyone has a certain score in their Fortitude Defense... for instance, Roelvi has a 14 Fortitude Defense, Micheal has a whopping 16, and Nerusai has a 12. The moon's disturbing imagery rolled a 13... plus it's +5 bonus. That beats the three member's Fortitude Defenses (in fact, if beats everyone's Fortitude Defenses), and they become Dazed at the sight.
Hope this little bit helps you on your quest.

Aidyn nods. "Yes... the Light-Eating Wound, is what the anomaly is called now.... my foulmouthed little friend." She chuckles a bit, nervously, then looks to the others. "You're a... shifter, right? You're one of the lucky few. When the moon vanished, it had some... unforeseen effects. No one knows if it's connected, but... the lycanthropes... all went "Wereform" at the same time, and went on rampages before fleeing into the woods - in the middle of the day. Night-creatures have become bolder, for now there is no moonlight to safeguard us - only our own lights. The undead, as well, grow bolder... some lines of vampiric entities becoming immune to the effects of the sun's rays. It is... not a good time for us."

She shakes her head. "...Also, at the same time, a new evil god appeared, plaguing every people - Ornil... known now as the Nightmare Dragon, the Dream-Perverter. A cruel entity... some say that he's responsible for the disappearance of the moon, but no one can prove it."

---------

Roxelvi, getting a hold on his queasy feeling, turns his eyes up at Aidyn with a glare. "You made us look at that on purpose... hurk..." Still feeling a bit affected by the sickening sight, he takes deep breaths until calming down. "I'm... I'm fine. I'm good."

Seeing Nerusai wobbling a little, he reaches forth, wrapping his arm around the swaying red-head and offering a bit of stability. Strong arm pulled Nerusai gently closer, before looking back to Aidyn. "...That's... quite a list of calamities you've got there. If the monsters are all going nuts, though... how is it this town has been untouched...?"

-------

Aidyn sighs. "...Well, we were plot-free until you folks came along. The only thing we had to worry about before was monster catfish. Now we have adventurers around stirring up trouble." She sighs, shaking her head and shrugging in a play-fed up manner. "It's only a matter of time..."

Nerusai had closed his eyes in an attempt to shut out the unsettling imagery, but flicked them open when he felt an arm wrap soothingly around him. It was a drop of rain to finally overflow, Neru's whirlwind of a day, nauseating and confusing and uncertain, came crashing down on him all at once. Ignoring his doubts, his worries, and the nagging voice at the back of his mind, Neru pressed his face against the neck of the fighter, curling into the grasp of the crooked arm.

"I fail to see how... it's.. really our problem," Neru murmured, eyes closing in a content manner he hoped no one could see. "Aside from being stuck in this world, after all... but I suppose we might not get away until we help you with your 'slay the dragon' quest...." he curved his own arm loosely behind Roxelvi's back.

The darkened sky made his features far eerier as his brilliantly colored hair stuck out like a flare. Aidyn and Kat might say something, Nerusai worried before realizing that it didn't matter. He would be holding Roxelvi even if they had already said something. Just for comfort, that's all... he thought to himself, his world righting itself slowly again.

Michael smiled knowingly as Aidyn mentioned the 'dream perverter' and he also noticed that roxy and Nerusai were getting 'close' and it seemed like Kat and Aidyn were as well, so Michael simply pulled out a bottle of ale from his stash, the dark brown bottle emitting an audible hiss as it opened
"Ornil? so thats who that dickcheese with the red eyes was, seriously, i'm dreaming, all is well, bad guys are getting a nice big swathe of 'what for' then i notice these two slitted red eyes staring at me, and some admittedly awesomely sinister laughing, i mean really, my dreams are for my own personal use, not some deitic cocksucker" Michael lifted the bottle to his lips and almost immediately felt better
"seriously, back home, I'd play a bit of computer, maybe surf the net for something to stimulate my interests, be that porn or wargaming stuff, drink a beer then go to bed about now, fucking stupid hand, shoulda broke the fucking......" Michael stopped himself from continuing with a sigh
I dunno, maybe its just me, but could we find the fucker responsible for our imprisonment, gut them, wear their entrails as jewlery and go home already, this 'everything is out to get you' stuff is driving me up the wall" Michael sipped some more of the drink, clearly savoring it
"at least the beer is tasty, ah fuck it, you guys seem like I'm bein' a fifth wheel, you want me to fuck off?" Michael admitted almost sheepishly, suddenly feeling that wash of loneliness threaten to overcome him, though he shpowled little more than a slight melancholy.

Zu felt the blackness envelope not just the night but her thoughts as well. Something in the air had changed and she noticed the missing moon. Her eyes felt damp as she knew that uncertainy that would come now. Letting out a sigh she used her sword to help her stand up. Her claw like feet dug into the soft sand. So many strange things seemed to be creeping around in the night. It was like all the life that had either been or was came back to breath once more.

Images of shadows large and small shifted in the night. It was best to get back to the others and quickly. Zu looked around for the temple that the others said they were heading too. She headed toward it, her eyes sharp as she moved with her guard up. Her sward in her hands ready just incase something came at her.

Watching the crazy person attempt to smash on of the locks and then crash out of the building gave Bolas an idea. " 'ey, scaredy Rogue, er whatevah ya are. What say we's break outta dis dump?" And with that, Bolas conjured up the power of his draconic heritage and menifested it in the form of a ball of acid in his hand, which he promptly smashed into the lock. The acid manages to eat away almost all of the metal lock, though just enough remains to prevent Bolas from escaping just yet. "Grrrrr. One mer time odda do it." Focusing his energies once again, Bolas makes another Acid Orb and smashes it into the lock, disolving what bits were left. At a gentle touch from Bolas, the door to his cell swings open, granting him freedom at last. Turning to his companion in the opposite cell, he asks, "So, ya wanna leave, or do ya happen ta like living wit rats 'n roaches 'n other vermin?"

He didn't know how long he lay there, but by the time he realized it, he was already lying down on the dungeon floor. And the dungeon door has already been opened. Faramond looked around him and saw the sorceror casting a spell against his dungeon cell, while Vagre was still fast asleep, not minding everything that is happening.

"So, ya wanna leave, or do ya happen ta like living wit rats 'n roaches 'n other vermin?" Bolas the sorceror asked as his dungeon door was forced open.

Faramond stood up and looked around him for the second time. Bolas was already out of his cell, while Vagre was still fast asleep.

"Uh, I don't think he would be in the position to reply" Faramond said, pointing to a sleeping Vagre.

"Now, is this what I think it is?" Faramond asked. "Or does this only look like a jailbreak?"

"Aw, really?" Kat thinks over it for a bit, and how that sort of situation tends to resolve itself in stories.

Usually, Aidyn would either A) turn evil, B) die, or C) both.

"Well, I can see why you wouldn't come, then..." Her gaze drifted up to the wound on reality as it was pointed out to her.

She silently watched on as Aidyn continued to explain and Roxelvi nearly threw up. Something moved underneath the skin in her hands, betraying her feelings.

"Nerusai..." Her words came out nearly a whisper, as she focused on not exploding in his face. "Would you abandon these people to their fate? We have the potential to solve this problem, and there are no others in our position. Saving this world is the only way we're going to get home. That's how these things work."

She breathed in deeply and turned to face him.
"Yes, it is our problem. And if you have anything relating a shred of humanity inside you, you're going to help. Even if all we do is delay a horde of kobolds or stop some warlord, we've got to do something. I can't just stand by while this stuff happens, and if you can, you're a worse person than I thought.

Exceed my expectations. Be the hero."
((6+5=11, which is less than 14.))

Vagre moved over to the bars of his cell, "I'm all for getting out of here." He said to the google-worshiping draconic demi. "I'll introduce you two to the other players, then perhaps we can leave this crappy nameless town."

He stood back to allow the Sorcerer to use his acid on his bars as well. He smiled and reached into his shirt to make sure he had everything, "Wha.." he said in confusion patting himself down, Everything, all his stuff, was gone.

"Players? What 'players'? Dat some kind o' new slang? 'r is it elvish mumbo-jumbo fer somethin'?" Bolas said in an attempt to feign ignorance. Who else could have possibly gone through his computer? Or was this not quite as local as he thought? Regardless, escaping was now his priority. He conjured up another Acid Orb and hit the Rogue's lock with it. Seeing the Rogue searching himself for his gear, he said, "Don' worry 'bout yer gear n' such. Dem guards take yer things 'fore dey lock yas up. We'll git yer stuff on da way out. Godda collect a few o' my own things 'fore we leave as well." By the time Bolas stopped explaining things, the acid had eaten completely through the lock and the cell door swung lazily open. "Well, seein' as yer da stealthy one 'ere, I'll let ya have da honors o' goin' first. Our stuff should be in a lcoked closet 'r sumin' like dat."

[[Bluff: 16; Acid Orb: 17]]

Vagre stopped searching and looked at the sorcerer. "You don't know!" he half shouted. "I'm a player, ... Framond here.." he shook his head. "I thought you NPCs where self aware with your taking about the plot." he stepped out of his cell, quiet for a moment. "Well lets get out of here."

Vagre moved over to the bars of his cell, "I'm all for getting out of here."

"So you were already awake?" Faramond asked, though this was left unanswered.

"I'll introduce you two to the other players, then perhaps we can leave this crappy nameless town." Vagre said.

"Players? What 'players'? Dat some kind o' new slang? 'r is it elvish mumbo-jumbo fer somethin'?" Bolas replied. Faramond had an inkling that the sorceror was bluffing, well, pretending to be ignorant, but Faramond didn't mind much.

Vagre stood back and Bolas conjured some kind of an acid blob and dissolved the lock in Vagre's cell. "Don' worry 'bout yer gear n' such. Dem guards take yer things 'fore dey lock yas up. We'll git yer stuff on da way out. Godda collect a few o' my own things 'fore we leave as well." Bolas told Vagre who was searching in vain for his belongings.

"You don't know!" Vagre half shouted. "I'm a player, ... Framond here.."

"Yeah, I would have LOVED being a non-player character." Faramond sighed, "At the very least, I would be able to look forward to actions that made better sense."

"I thought you NPCs where self aware with your taking about the plot." Vagre replied. Though neither Bolas nor Faramond were sure as to whom that reply was for.

Before long, the acid has completely eaten through the lock and the cell door swung open.

"Well, seein' as yer da stealthy one 'ere, I'll let ya have da honors o' goin' first. Our stuff should be in a lcoked closet 'r sumin' like dat." Bolas told Vagre.

"No need, I don't think there are guards outside." Faramond told Bolas, "And if there were, I don't think they'd mind us doing a jailbreak."

"As I've heard someplace, 'It is better to repair a broken lock than to fight against player characters' or something like that" Faramond told them.

Saying that, Faramond went out of the dungeon and looked around, and true enough, there were no guards in the vicinity. He then went straight towards the baggage counter where the guard placed his belongings. Seeing that there was no one to assist him, Faramond helped himself and got his things, but not before double checking with his character sheet and the list the guard made.

After making sure he had indeed retrieved what was rightfully his, Faramond called to the others. "HEY! Your things are here!"

"As well, this sort of thing always leads where the adventurers need to go."
"As well, this sort of thing always leads where the adventurers need to go."

The two had said it at the same time - both Aidyn and Roxelvi. They look nervously at each other for a bit, and Rox turns away - going out on a limb to nuzzle his head into Nerusai's hair comfortingly. His armor might not be to comfortable to be up against, but he was certainly trying his best to offer comfort. "I don't think we'll be god-slaying anytime soon."

He leans in and whispers, "As well... I know this system well. When we defeat monsters and things, we 'level up'... and gain more power. The more power we gain, the greater control we have over this world..." He smiles at him, and nods in a serious manner.

--------

Aidyn nods, looking to everyone and listening with a smile. "I can't actually provide much for you guys but information, sadly. Though I can send some words ahead to some of the important people in Fishing Town... might be of some help if we at least get the general store merchant open-minded enough to buy looted stuff from you." She turns, nodding at Kat, "Come with me. I've got to buy you something nicer if we're going on a date."

Zu came to a small clearing and could hear voices. She knew she was close and smiled to herself. It would be best to stay together incase things got worse. Zu knew something was amiss but what could it be. She had never had seen a sky missing its moon before. She almost hoped that it was just her location that made it seem like it was missing but as she got closer to the group she sadly realize it was true it was missing.

"Hey Rox.." She shouted as she jumped over a few boulders and smiled. "What did you, piss off the moon goddess or what?" she teased. Her eyes were wild but open enough to see that Rox was being clung to by Nerusai. She couldnt hold back her smirk as she came to a halt near them. She was rather indifferent to it all since none of it made any sense to her. Zu rubbed her eyes and yawned. It was already a long night and now it seemd like it might never end.

"Ah, that'd be nice. I guess we don't have much choice as to our base town, unless there is another one nearby." She folded her arms across her chest and leaned against the wall of some building. Nerusai had better man up soon, or she would have to give him a Brightslap. And she wasn't Bright Noa, so there was no telling how that would turn out.

Aidyn mentioned getting something nicer for their date, and Kat took a moment to look over the clothes she had on. She had originally envisioned her character as more of a professor than a seductress, so her normal clothes weren't the most flattering thing ever. Her armor was rather skimpy, as required, but it was hidden beneath her normal clothes. Clearly, a change of wardrobe was in order.

It's a good thing she decided against having her character wear glasses.

"S-shopping? I've never really been shopping for dresses before..But sure, I'll come. Maybe we can find a nice black one..." She walked off, holding Aidyn's hand.

Nerusai raised his brow but refrained from commenting on her statement. His thoughts, though, were opinionated. This was not my world, he thought vehemently. If they did something to bring this upon themselves, should not their own people be able to solve their problems? This was how intercountry dependance started. The country that could help did, and pretty soon the little one depended on it to tell it when to jump and how high. Neru sighed. His draw to helping was to be near the man now gently cradling him against harsh metal armor. The sweet actions and glinting armor almost seemed at a paradox with one another, but Neru chose not to push himself terribly far mentally right now.

With an almost sleepy air to him, Neru nestled his face to the warrior's neck so that his warm breath stirred the downy hairs at the back of the man's neck. Ignoring how blatantly against his gender he seemed to be being, Nerusai let himself be soothed by the warrior, regaining his balance and still at a loss with his composure.

As the females left for their shopping, Neru merely took the opportunity to feel less restrained, though the temptation had been to pointedly highlight his 'neutral' section in the character sheet. Still, he supposed, realizing he did not think he could abandon these people, not knowingly let them suffer, especially not the warrior. I guess there is a 'good' in there after all, he marveled quietly.

Michael watched all that unfolded with bemused detachment, nodding to show that he understood what Aidyn had said, though the fact that everyone else seemed to completely ignore him somewhat annoyed but also amused the large fighter.
"kaaaaaay then, ill take my hint, see yez tomorrow, im goin' to bed" he declared to Nerusai and Roxy, before strolling off, back to the tavern.

Zu blinked and looked around at the others and was very tired too. "Hey wait.. umm Michael was it..? Um.. yeah we can share a room if you want. Wait.." Zu was tripping over her words almost as bad as she was with the roots and uneven path before her in the pitch black night. "Um what I mean is, I can pay half if you like or not its okay either way.." Her eyes shifted from him as to not challange him. She knew she must look like a fumbling lizard but she smiled at him and rubbed the back of her neck. "Umm no is okay too, I think we can stay in the church, temple thing back over that way too if you want I mean, yeah... " Zu realized that she was rambling and stopped. Rubbing her eyes she tried to hide the discomfort of them buring but it was hard. She was tired and even her eyes were angry that she was still awake.

In a room near the one Faramond is in, voices can clearly be heard: "Nondescript Cell Guard! I'm surprised at you - away from your post, your key ring is dangerously loose, and you're half asleep!"

"Well, it's not like I haven't done this before."

"It's just that the last Player-Character we had in here completely failed to escaped."

"That is NOT my fault! He botched his sneak roll!"

In other news, he also comes across all of their equipment.

-----

Aidyn smiles, moving along very quickly. "Actually, there is a town nearby, but it's not the best choice of locations. More of a village, anyway. A halfling village - which means it won't be there but for a few more days. They do like to travel, you know."

She nods, "The tailor's shop is nearby. I'll pay for your new clothes, don't worry." She winks, "Just let her measure you and tell her what you want. She's a quick tailor, it'll be ready before you even know it."

-----

Rox calls to Micheal and Zu, "The Temple of Melora's te tallest building in town - it's the one with the seashell symbol on it."

He now stood there, holding the wizard gently against him, blowing some of the man's fire-red hair from his mouth with a 'ptoo', followed by a humored chuckle. His clawed finger traces a circle on his shoulder for a few moments, before pulling gently away.

"As... wonderful it is, to hold you as close as we are now, M'not sure now's the right time." He nods a bit. "I'm... terribly hungry. Maybe we should find somewhere to eat?" As if to emphasize this, a growling sound emitted from the warrior's stomach, and he blushed in embarrassment.

Michael turned, swaying gently despite the lack of a breeze.
"Y'alright, the Room i got in the tavern has two seperate beds, so it makes sense to use both of em" he said, before chuckling to himself
"i didnt like churches and stuff before i came here, im sure as shit not gonna sleep in one where their god actually exists" he said jokingly to Zu, leading her back to the Tavern, his Glaive making a rather good walking stick, though he almost fell flat on his face no less that a dozen times.

Eventually they reached the Tavern, and Michael Acended the stairs, producing a small steel key, the metal dull and slightly worn
"here we are, the room" he muttered, unlocking the door and shuffling inside.

He pointed to the left side of the room
"You can have that side if you want, I'll have this side, see ya in the mornin mate" he declared, taking off the chainmail armor and undershirt and falling onto the bed, which was suprisingly soft for a cheap room.
in short order, Michael, still wearing his pants and boots was almost asleep
"oh, and if you need me for anything, dot hesitate to wake me up okay?" he rumbled, eyes closed.

Zu giggled and smirked as she walked along with Michael. She waved a hand to Rox as they went. She wasnt sure if he saw her but the knew the would meet up in the morning. The tavern was nice enough as the people came and went, seemingly not noticing the two come in and head upstairs. It was a bit noisy but once they hit the landing all the chatter from below seemed to fade away. It was really nice since her head was still whirling from everything.

"You can have that side if you want, I'll have this side, see ya in the mornin mate" Michael was already undressing or at least trying too and she turned her head to not see more then she really wanted. As soon as she heard him hit the bed she turned to see him half passed out. She smiled and went over to him and touched his hair.

She missed home more than anything in that moment and his last words were like a blanket of hope she really needed. "oh, and if you need me for anything, dot hesitate to wake me up okay?" Zu smiled as his eyes closed. It was just her way to take care of others and so she tugged off his boots and set them at the end of the bed, then covered him up with the blanket from her bed. She never used them anyway. Letting out a sigh she went to the window and for some reason she couldnt explain, pulled over a chair and kept watch for the night. She didnt like new places so her eyes was on the door and the night sky as she fought sleep. Hours later she lost that battle as her head slumped over to rest on the wall near the window, the candle burned down and it was lights out.
