Alright, works for me then. Put the Character Sheet and the Mecha sheet into the Index, please~ Be sure to include all the edits and such I asked/we discussed.

I swear though, he's going to get so much flak for having a mecha named Death. XD

That will take some time, please be patient.

That is half the fun.

"Fight, if there's a battle worth fighting."
  • Name: Ri-Sa
    Age Appeared: Early twenties
    Gender: Female
    Race: Meridian

    Appearance: "Risa stands at a height of five feet and seven inches, her body is at an athletic tone decorated subtly by her ample features. Her hair is a bright pink in color that lightens to a whiter shade towards the ends of her long locks. To match this, her eyes are a vibrant shade of light purple. Her voice matches here appearance, though is a little more calm than her words would admit."

    Personality: Risa is fairly normal by any human standard. She's not the type to dive headstrong into socializing with people, but she's not antisocial to the point where she actively avoids those around her. She does have a curious side to her, a yearning for knowledge that takes control when something catches her interest. She has a habit of researching things she doesn't understand if it's within her power to be able to, and more so, she collects books of various ages and topics just per chance they may one day hold value to her. Risa has a strong sense of honor, feeling that people should act their best and do their best for the good of everyone they hold dear.

    Biographical Events:

    [] Born to peacekeeper family on Meridia []
    [] Family relocates to Nozion []
    [] Living in constant exposure to crime convinces Risa to become an officer []

    Size: Large [32.8 Ft]
    Weight: Heavy [Slow]
    Appearance: Large, White, Blue Lighting Effects, Pointy.

    Weapons: Rowell-22[Standard Mech Rifle], The Mordakka[Sub-Machine Gun, Magnetic Rounds], Jakyll-Mk2[Missile Launcher Attachment, Left Shoulder], Other Mech Weapons.

    Special Features: Deterrence Field - Fueled by Risa's electrokinetic powers, West Wind is constantly exhuming a magnetic field around itself to draw in solid rounds of a reasonable size, speed, and material. Once the fired ammunition is drawn in, they are able to repelled or nullified.

    Symbiosis - Within the West Wind's legs are two large generators which fuel themselves separately from the rest of the mech itself. These generators are fueled independently and work as an emergency power-source for the mech when it runs out of basic fuel. The other benefit of these generators is that, Risa is able to draw the electricity they generate for herself, or on the other hand, she is able to channel some of her own into these generators 'Super Charging' the West Wind.

  • Name: Meridia
    Hours in the Day: 25
    Basic Description of Environment: Lush landscapes with few cities scattered across the small planet. Most wildlife is peaceful other than a strange predator species known as Recreants which are capable of adapting to their surroundings constantly, from sprouting wings to avoid falling to death to fins and gills when they're drowning.

    Level of Technology: Mid to High. They are caught up with the developing times, though the older Meridians usually stay away from the rapidly developing weapons and other tools of war.

    Style of Government: Freeform, some would say that Meridia is currently an anarchy, though the race of a whole is not governed by any figurehead or republic. Instead, due to the small population, they console Magisters[oldest wisest of them] for advice and have them make decisions for the populace of the planet.

    Dominant Race: Meridians, they're long-lived humans that look very little different than others. They do however have a stunted birthrate, and a strong bodily defense system called an "Exoskeleton".
  • Name: Meridians
    Appearance: Forever youthful, usually having strange eye or hair colors-, even multi-colored of both.
    Culture: Modians are for the most part, a peaceful race. On their home planet, they apprehend violence of any kind within their walls and will offer hospitality to many without reconsideration. Though many have been shying away from their planet to seek other planets and places to call home due to their continuously shrinking population as a race. Their names are often short and lack a last name altogether, though when being wed to other races their name is usually humanized into something of the race they are being married to.

Character/Race
"I'm about a metre and three quarters tall. But this world has a diameter of twelve thousand kilometres. The star it flies around is about 11 million kilometres. The whole star system is a light year and a bit, and it's part of a 250 thousand light year galaxy, in a supercluster a hundred times that size, among a bunch of them that spans 1.3 billion light years. That's not a billionth of the size of the known universe. But despite my insignificance and the hubris of my existence, I can honestly say that I'm happy to have been born. But no wonder I can't find my keys, huh?"

Name: Auric Oktonia
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Sephyrian Nephalem

Appearance: Due to millenia mingling with humans (and sharing a common ancestor), Nephalem look pretty much like humans with mildly more elf-y-ish ears, and the occasional genetic spasm giving them blue hair or something weird like that.

Culture: The Sephyrians in general are a very logical race. They take comfort in science and sound arguments, and they frigging love the mechas. The few religions they have left don't really worship gods, the deities in question considered simply beings with no physical form, and often they are hand-waved away as a sentient mass of quantum foam. The Nephalem themselves are a hybrid that has formed over the years between the Alther (relatively human-like beings) courting humans. It's almost impossible to discern where the human traits end and the Alther traits begin, but now Nephalem are more populous than their Alther parents (or more accurately, great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents). They do pick up on aspects of the original Alther culture, though: for instance, it is seen as more formal for the males to have very long, straight hair, while the females to have curled or shorter hair. They also like symbolism a lot, too. For instance, grey, to them, is the colour of death, since that's what colour a corpse's skin goes given enough time. But for funerals and such, this means absolutely nobody dresses that colour, since the dead person is dead and the attendees are decidedly not; it would be disrespectful to the person who's moved on if everyone jumps on the bandwagon, right?

Appearance*: As a Nephalem, Auric is distinguished by his long ears, and has a black iris that would be totally indistinguishable from his pupils if not for a slightly lighter rim around the latter. His face is slim and kind of feminine, but pretty all the same. He is taller than the average adult human, despite looking about 19, though this may have been due to his homeworld's 0.92G. His dark brown hair is tied back in a ponytail, in recognition of sharing ancestry with humans too, who have the opposite custom when it comes to hair. He also likes to wear loose black clothing, though this isn't symbolic, it's just practical.

Personality: Auric is a lateral thinker. He freaking loves puzzles to bits, especially good ones, because they're "funny and smart and then the answer is always oh-my-gosh-awesome and then that one gets old and you want ten more or something", which sums up his attitude towards them relatively well. Because of his love for puzzles, he's become very clever, and he'll pursue anything that takes his curiosity. As a result, he's very good with words; while he may not seem it, he's good at getting a point across, but it's difficult to tell if he's about to say something profound, meaningful, witty, or just plain stupid until he's actually said it: his quote range is anywhere from Gandhi-level wisdom to 5-year-old-level matter-of-factness, and sometimes just a little bit creepy. Because of his outside-the-box thinking, he's also developed an intimate sense of empathy, which in turn he can exploit to make himself more charismatic, though that's probably helped by his sense of morals and believes in just being nice to people in action, even if not in words sometimes.
However, he's extremely stubborn. It takes a lot of evidence to change his mind about something, and he'll still argue his point for weeks on end if he wants to, and boy, can he argue. This is partly down to a hatred for and fear of being wrong: he's smarter than anyone else he knows, so he's often right, and he's very aware that this means he'll be defined more by his intellectual failures than successes. He also has a habit of "stealth insulting" people he doesn't like, because he wants the satisfaction, but not to hurt their feelings. The side effect is that it's often more hurtful when he is understood.
He has a very specific procedure when it comes to interacting with the real world: if he can see a living thing, then he prioritises its welfare above whatever else is going on. Unfortunately for him, he can't actually see himself without a mirror, and the mirror isn't alive either, so even though if someone else is suffering, he's not backing down, he can be pushed around quite a bit by others if there aren't significant stakes at hand.

Biography: He doesn't really like to open up about it.

Job: He used to be a quantum/theoretical physicist, but he quit working so he could work on controlling time instead. (See Talents for a decrease in the amount of WTF)

Skills: Auric has a honed talent for puzzles, riddles, and problems. He has an advanced knowledge of the sciences, especially physics, and as a result had to learn some pretty advanced math. Also, due to the terrible funding mentioned earlier, he had to learn some software engineering skills so he could program the equipment in the lab (although almost all of his knowledge was gained through trial-and-error, so he's a very messy coder). He can cook a wide variety of relatively basic things, though nothing especially well without treating the food less as food and more as a number: he can't make anything on intuition alone, and has therefore kept a large portfolio of exactly how to cook things, although it generally assumes he has his old lab equipment on hand. Oh, and he's really, really smart, since he uses what is effectively a homemade dark matter transistor system as a built-in computer for himself.

Talents: Auric has a natural aptitude for his matter conversion craft (see below) and is working out how to alter the flow of time with it. It's taking some time to do, however (read: it's ludicrously hard), but he and a few others he's working with over the internet are slowly making their way there, being able to slow the rate of time to about 0.2 s/s, but he doubts he'll ever be able to travel back and forth through it. Not to mention, slowing time puts more stress on the user the faster they go, so unless he really is in a life-threatening situation and he doesn't have adrenaline to back him up, 250% speed is really his limit.

Power: "AMC" or Alternate Matter Conversion, otherwise known as conversion of dark matter into normal matter and back, obviously with all the energy required for it to not destroy the world whenever it's used, as well as being able to reconfigure properties as needed while the stuff comes through. Nephalem have also evolved to convert harmful things to dark matter or send energy to the non-baryonic side of the universe via reflex action.
Equipment: A short, but pointy, carved stick (which is made of metal BTW), as standard issue for those who use AMC. It helps to have a small point to focus on when processing alternating matter, and it's good when you don't accidentally merge that block of glass you're forming with your finger.

Theme Song:
Because it fits him and the title made me laugh.

*I can draw him if need be, but it'll take a few days/weeks to get to a reasonable standard. _XD

Planet
Name: Sephyria
Hours/Day: 26.4

Environment:
Cold as all hell. Sephyria's ice caps extend almost as far as where Norway is on Earth. Around the equator, it's as close as one would ever get to a rainforest there: a slightly humid temperate one. Due to this, there really isn't a lot of life, and the animals outweigh the plants by a rough factor of 3. As a result, there is still some pollution damage from when the sapient races of the world were using fossil fuels, but not as much as you might expect, since a life meant a lack of fossils to burn. The animals there are mostly large, fluffy mammals, due to the cold climate, so one wouldn't have to look hard to find what is basically a herbivorous bear or some such creature that can climb the trees. Unfortunately, this means that the predators are fuck-off massive.
The planet orbits on the outer edge of the Goldilocks zone of a blue star a bit bigger than the size of Pollux, named Ciester, and it's orbited by two moons. The larger red one, with a surface of iron oxide dust, is named Dymo, and the other has a surface of copper oxide, named Zagerie.

Civilisation:
The Sephyrians, as mentioned above, are a scientific, logical race, who constantly demand proof. This means, of course, that they know next to everything about their own planet. They've been around for a while, but only have recently developed the unity to become a reasonable major force, and they still divide themselves into nations like primitives. Jeez, what kind of population would categorise themselves based on what landmass they hang out on? Douchebags. The population in question is pretty thin, but growing quite quickly now that they are a real space-faring presence and can move to other worlds if needs be. There are several races that live more or less kind of a bit in harmony, in that they'll tolerate each other: humans (special Sephyrian variant, nothing that just tall), Alther, and Yuters, who are all noticably different variations of humans.
Government:
The Sephyrians love social hierarchies. Mostly, dictatorships, but there is a recently formed union between countries that allows the planet to be treated as an actual civilised planet. So, democracy, but a democracy of dictators. At least it's a start.
Dominant race:
Nephalem, assuming you count them as a race and not just an amalgamation of the others. Otherwise, count the almost two-metre tall ones going walk-about as the in-charge guys.

Mech
Name: Achron
Type: Type-Ace
Size: About 19-20 feet
Weight: Light-mid weight, due to purpose.
Appearance: Attached is close enough.
Weaponry: Twelve hypersonic missles, a machine-gun about where the wrist is, containing a maximum of 6k rounds, aaaand... that's it. Huh. There's gotta be some more weapons around here somewhere...
Special Features: Ah, here they are. Achron's name isn't a misspelled version of archon: it literally is Greek for "without time". In other words, Achron was built with combined efforts of a handful engineers and physicists (and some Internet-goers) specifically with AMC in mind. More accurately, AMC used not only for firing dark matter, which is its primary form of offense, but also it is unaffected by time alteration. This gives it a considerable combat advantage while the pilot's mental stamina remains.
In addition, Achron has a few Type-Spatial elements, so it could survive a few minutes in orbit before being totally pummeled by micrometeors.
There is a fatal weakness though: if the pilot is mentally exhausted or cannot use AMC for whatever reason, Achron goes down like a rock.
~~~
Stats
Armor Strength: Medium
Shielding Strength: High
Horizontal Speed: Medium
Vertical Speed: Medium
Energy Efficiency: Medium, High if you factor in usage of AMC to make fuel (though this obviously is very difficult to do mid-flight)
Intelligence: High - It'll need it if it wants to be able to properly incorporate AMC into the design.
Space it out.
My eyes just exploded.
What an old-looking 19 year old. I feel sorry for his mid-life crisis.
It's probably for granted, but if he's going to be described as smart and stuff, I expect him to MAKE smart decisions. Well, either that, or I want to see him have panic attacks from successive strategic failures. Also, I'll have to invest in ear plugs to counter his constant arguments. XD
>natural aptitude to race's power
Powers are manifested via exposure to Ley radiation. Through reproduction, kids can get powers without exposure to said radiation, but the powers that are manifested are pretty damn random. So no, their race wouldn't have any sort of 'race-specific' power. Can you use plain speech to explain his power? Sounds like a massive hardcounter to a lot of things, really. Like...enemy has impenetrable defenses? Dark matter it~
Seeing how he's Loki, I'm pretty sure you can just find drawn pics of him on the Internet. Feel free to draw him if you're bored though.
That world was fun to read, and I always liked giant-ass monster-predators. Good job.
The missiles...are they like rockets, and you just fire them out? Or are they hypersonic nightmares that actually follow targets around? Six thousand bullets is going to be a pain to keep track of, btw. XD
Go into detail about the whole time alteration thing, please. More specifically...what can he do with it, and how much energy/stamina/whatever else does it use? Same with his uses for dark matter. Because both time manipulation and dark matter shenanigans sounds stealth-OP to an uneducated pleb like myself.
  • [BCOLOR=#ffffff] "Why hello there."[/BCOLOR]
    Name: Icturin Galt
    Age: Early twenties?
    Gender: Male
    Race: Human
    Appearance: A bit on the shorter side at 5'8 (1.73m), his slim frame is remarkably athletic though and in good shape at 170lb (77kg). His unusual appearance is the result of Ley radiation reacting with the genetic alterations done to his body. Said Ley is the purple gem embedded in his chest, and when it glows so do Icturin's irises and the markings on his skin.
    Personality: Probably best described as a mischievous rogue, he's the type of person who does things for his own benefit most of the time and altruism certainly isn't a thing for him. It's not always about the monetary or material gain though, having a roaring good time or beating the odds for the thrill of it suit Icturin just fine as well; s'why gambling is one of his vices. While troublesome and annoying to deal with at times, it's not in him to actively act malicious or harm others simply for the sake of doing so.
    At the same time being what he is, Icturin does have a serious facade he puts on at times. A face that betrays little emotion, also great for poker or the like by the way, and a calculating mind can do much to offset those who are used to his fun and games side. And while he can maintain the mask fairly easy, he doesn't like to do so as it's a bit too stiff for his liking. He'll often end up breaking it to relax somewhat before slipping right back in as if nothing happened, a bit odd and unnerving to some people.
    As a person though, Icturin is not easily offended nor angered. An admirer and hoarder of wealth who would surround himself in a room of gold and jewel with a throne to top it off, and then give it away after he's done basking in its shine and allure.
    Biography
    • Born as an experiment to see if it was possible to create a being that would be more receptive to Ley radiation and manifest stronger powers. Intended to be a super soldier essentially and the project received exorbitant funding.
    • Ley implant caused changes to appearance, but no other side effects. Manifestation of power occurred and appeared to be more powerful than other recorded abilities on a person-scale. Began to receive training to prepare for piloting.
    • After actually piloting a Mecha while donning the prepared Nano Fiber Battle Suit though, results showed no viable increase in strength of Power. Project was axed.
    • Course, despite their best efforts, the Human+ didn't really want to fight for his "creators". Having amassed a fairly large sum of Mahz, he escaped with all the equipment they had so kindly donated.
    • Throwing the Mahz stick at a freighter ship captain was more than enough to convince someone to ferry him away from the warring worlds and to another planet. From there he's bounced around while abusing his power to rob all sorts of establishments without being caught.
    Job: Wanted Criminal/Fugitive?
    Skills: Breaking, entering, and leaving; on his own terms and volition of course. Rather extensive soldier and Mech-Pilot training. Playing games of luck that aren't entirely luck based such as poker. Basic jeweler knowledge; on the side of identifying. Fine motor control, fairly deft on his feet, capable of some nifty acrobatics, and flexible. Also has a few contacts in shadier markets and the like.
    Talents: Human+. Genetic modifications plus controlled development and growth resulted in greater brain power, physical prowess, and health. Comes at the cost of a lower lifespan though as even the improved body doesn't last as long as an unmodified human.
    Power: Fun With Portals. The ability to create linked gaps in space on solid matter. There does not seem to be any limitation on what can be transferred between these distortions nor any hard limit on how many may be created, save for how much strain Icturin can endure. While not incredibly taxing to simply maintain, transferring anything between portals is a much more demanding task. They seem to be limited in size regardless of any assistance he has and can be around 2m by 2m at largest.
    Solely on his own power, limitations seem to be that portals cannot be placed any further than 5m from one another, and he can only transfer a human-sized object a few times before needing to recuperate. With Black Down though, the range increases to about 75m, allows portals to be shifted beyond that distance if the surface moves, and transfers of human-sized objects at least a dozen times. Throw in the Mecha as well and range extends to 150m and it takes quite a number of transfers to begin wearing at Icturin's mental health.
    At any time should something be transferring between portals, Icturin will be unable to close the two. As expected, it also takes quite a toll to maintain such a state. Organic surfaces prove impossible to form portals upon, and shielding seems to interfere with the power making portals unstable and much more taxing to create and maintain. Creation times range from up to a few seconds at max size to less than a second to simply open.
    Equipment: He basically never parts with his Nano Fiber Battle Suit at this point, conveniently named Black Down. Also generally keeps a few loaded Mahz sticks on his person as well as a Heat Blade; a small knife that generates a field-bound super heated edge that lets it carve through even Full Power Armor, though it may not be practical given armor thickness. Also carries around firearms if its legal to in the area he's in; from full assault rifle down to handgun.
    Theme Song: It is here. And then a random battle theme.
@Anderiel I recognize that warframe. Which...I play that game too much, possibly. Had to comment on it, though.
I'll be a while on things yet, I think, as I need to get an idea crystallized. There's a ton of stuff floating around tier-wise, which leads to a whole lot of things to consider overall.
Some of which may be useful to ask about, as they're sort of related to general direction of things. That the PCs will all end up in a Freelancer company is without question, but will they start there? Will there be an assumption that our characters know each other at all before things start?
Also, while I could probably ask about it elsewhere instead, are the space-type mecha capable of operations in an atmosphere or on land, or space-only? (For that matter, any idea on how much time would be spent in space versus planetside?)
My apologies for not noticing.
Ironically, I was asking myself that too. I do not know, as my character is bound to his duties and personal objectives.
Going by the description, they can but they'll have low operation times given the amount of fuel/energy they'll burn up trying to move around.
Going by the description, they can but they'll have low operation times given the amount of fuel/energy they'll burn up trying to move around.
Well, it depends really. Does the mecha in question have a space only operation spec? Can it unseal itself? What is it's core using as energy?
Any space ship / mech can be used underwater, since both are sealed and both space / aquatic areas need sealed mechs or ships.
PCs don't all have to start in the company. I'll find ways to connect the ones that don't.
For Type-Spatials, yeah, they have horrendous energy costs because they require tons of fuel and thrusters to move around. Basically...Type-Spatials have tons of extra armor and shielding, which makes them much heavier. They also have more energy sources as a result, which leads to more armor plating to protect those sources. And of course, they have those wing thingies, which add to the weight even further. In space, all that weight isn't much of a problem, but within planets, the gravity would make things SUCK for Type-Spatials.
You can probably customize a Type-Spatial to be able to detach its space thrusters or whatever, to lighten the load, but in return, it'll generally be easier for battles to screw over all your important attachment/detachment systems.
I'd probably have to double-check things, but I'm pretty sure that, counter-intuitively enough, while the concept of weight is indeed fairly meaningless in space, more mass IS a problem. Because more mass means it's harder to get something moving without more thrust, which often carries with it an associated mass... And so it goes. I am not an expert on getting stuff going in space, but there are certainly some good arguments for keeping things meant to operate there fairly light if possible.
Well, Velocity is equal to Mass times Acceleration, thus you are correct in that the more you add on, the less mobile something would be.
