personality
juliette is, for the most part, a very caring and kind person. she's your typical girl next door, just more overlooked. she has a reputation in her school for being a nerd, and therefore, she's an outcast in the school hierarchy. because of certain mental ailments, juliette was raised to believe that she was usually always right. she also has difficulty identifying emotions in other people, meaning she can be quite blunt without intending to actually hurt people. her ailments further complicate her social interactions, but they help her immensely when it comes to academics. while most of the time, she takes things very literally, she is also well versed in the art of sarcasm and can often be found using it primarily when speaking to those she dislikes -- which is half the school, if not more. juliette tends to shy away from initiating conversations, but will happily talk if someone else approaches her. she also has a bit of anxiety at times, though does well to hide it.

mental ailments
juliette has an eidetic memory, making her easily the smartest person in her class. aside from this, she also has mild asperger's syndrome.

relationship with siblings
n/a

past
juliette grew up in a very nice home. she had a good childhood, for the most part. she was an only child, she was was pampered, and also slightly sheltered since her father felt the need to be protective, considering she didn't even have her mother around. juliette was more friendly during her infant years, especially when she was close friends with her neighbour. that was until they got to middle school and things changed, with him being popular and her being... well, the opposite of popular. juliette soon became victim to bullying and teasing, since she was different from the others, and while that got to her initially, she soon stopped letting it affect her, instead focusing on her education.

present
currently, juliette is a senior in high school and hoping to leave the country for a college abroad with her excellent grades. she's aiming for a scholarship, of course, but if worse comes to worse, she'd just work in her dad's garage since she likes doing that too and doesn't want to leave her dad alone.

extras
juliette is a vegetarian by choice.
juliette's dad has been on a few dates but was never interested in finding something permanent.

"Are you sure you don't want a ride?"

Juliette looked up from her plate of pancakes to see her father across the dining table, slowly sipping his mug of coffee. "Yeah, dad, I'm sure," she nodded in confirmation. It was the start of her senior year in high school and while it would have been great to drive up in her own set of wheels, that was not a luxury she could afford. She was currently working on fixing up a used car but there was still a bit of work to be done till it was up and running, which meant that for the time being, Juliette was stuck getting rides from her dad, or just using her bike -- the latter was a more preferred method because she didn't like bugging her dad for a lift all the time, and she was more than capable of biking a few miles to get where she needed to go.

"I can pick you up if you want," he added. Juliette knew he was being this way because it was the first day of a new year. The past years in school hadn't exactly been very pleasant, and it only seemed to get worse as she got older, because people got more cruel. Well, the popular ones at least. Her father knew little details, but he knew something and that alone was enough to make him a bit paranoid. She had a feeling he only offered because he wanted to scout the place, see if anything was happening on his watch. And the last thing Juliette wanted was trouble.

"Really, dad, it's fine,"
she assured him as she finished up her breakfast and rose to her feet. "I'll see you at the garage in the evening," she added, grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder.

"You need anything, you call. Understood?"

Juliette smiled a bit and gave him a mock salute. "Yes, sir." And with that, she left the house. Her bicycle was parked out on the front porch of her small little house and she immediately got on, making the trip to school. She was already running a bit late so she had to pick up the pace. Another year, more troubles to face. Juliette had grown immune to the name calling, and thankfully, unlike some of the boys she knew that were outcasts much like herself, she didn't receive any physical bullying like being shoved into lockers. Though there were many attempts by cheerleaders to try and embarrass her in public, that usually resulted in panic attacks. Juliette was hoping none of that would happen this year. Or at least, not the first day.

She reached school quick enough, but the seemingly empty parking lot, save for the vacant cars that filled it, told her that the last bell had rung already. Juliette was rarely late to class, which was why she was in such a hurry. She forgot to even lock her bike, instead abandoning it near the bicycle stand and rushing into the building. She was so consumed with where she was going that she hardly noticed someone around the corner as she turned into a new hallway, which would have led right to her history class. She met the person on the other side with a bit of force, sending her back and sprawling to the floor. Two books scattered away from her hand -- ones she had just grabbed from her locker in her hurry to get to class -- and she was quite sure her wrist was twisted or something. Still, Juliette had to shake her head slightly to realise what actually happened, which was when she looked up to see a familiar face. A face she hadn't exactly spoken to in a long time...

As surprising as it was, Owen had always looked forward to the start of the school year since junior high. And no, it wasn't because he loved school oh so much and did so well. It was simply because being there, snoozing during class, playing around with his friends and going to hockey practice was better than being at home for weeks and tiptoeing around his father. And this year was no exception. Owen was looking forward to the memorables times he'd be able to make in his last year of school.

As if the world was on his side today, his father had left earlier that morning. Where to? Owen hadn't the slightest idea. Sometimes, Jack Grayson left and didn't come back for days. The longest he had ever been away from home had been a whole month. But when he was out of the house, it made things a lot easier for Owen and Quinn.

Owen had woken his brother, made them breakfast --which was cereal and half an apple --, forced him to get ready for school, did the same himself and helped him out the door. Usually, Owen's best friend Josh would pick him and Quinn up to give them around. But during their summer break the boy had gotten his license suspended for speeding.

"I hate riding the bus." Quinn groaned as he used his single crutch to help him walk along the sidewalk. "The kids are always so obnoxious."

Owen chuckled softly at his brother and the frown he wore on his face. "Kids at that age usually are. Well, no, they don't get that much better in high school either." He nudged the smaller boy's shoulder as the arrived to the bus stop.

It was slightly upsetting that there were no seats at a school bus stop. There was no where for Quinn to sit back and rest his legs. Even now as they stood waiting for the yellow bus, he began to tremble but hid it well. The twelve year old wasn't one to complain. He was so easily made happy and patient and more mature than he should have been for his age. Unfortunately, he had to grow up fast and Owen hated that.

"You don't have to wait with me."

"I know." Owen shove his hands into his jean pockets.

"You're going to be late for school."

"I know."

Quinn smiled and Owen smiled back. The two brothers waited until the bus finally arrived and Owen only left after he saw his younger brother sit down and wave at him through the window. As soon as the bus pulled off and was out of his sight, Owen ran like the wind. He was so incredibly late and he wasn't sure he could warrant anymore dislike from his teachers. Blessed was he that he was an athlete and ran to school every other day. The boy knew the quickest routes and soon enough he was at Newborough's high school.

"Late again, O dog!" Someone shouted with a laugh.

Owen turned around, jogging backwards as he raised his hands innocently. "I run Filipino time!" There was laughter and he smiled. Too bad that excuse wouldn't fly with his homeroom teacher. But just as he turned around and rounded the corner he bumped into someone and stumbled back "Ow." he hissed before looking at the person he unintentionally knocked to the ground.

What were the odds of him running into Juliette Highmore. Owen couldn't say he was fond of her because then he would be lying. But he did feel bad for knocking her to the ground and making her drop all of her things. Hell, Owen himself had to pick up his own books. But instead of hurrying to do just that and make it to his class, he offered his hand to her. "Milady."

The last thing Juliette had expected was to run right into her former childhood friend. Her and Owen hadn't spoken ever since entering middle school -- and since their parents stopped hanging out. Though that was mainly to do with his mother leaving. A topic she had never brought up because it was sensitive and despite the fact that she was usually blunt, she also knew where to draw the line. Or, rather, only in the case of a few people. And even though her and Owen didn't talk anymore, the line was still drawn. Besides, they barely interacted. He was popular, liked by the whole school almost. He was a hockey player. A jock. Juliette was the complete opposite. A nobody. Why would he ever want to be seen around her anyway?

Juliette assumed he would shake this incident off and head to class -- which happened to be the same one as hers -- so she was a little surprised when he actually offered her his hand. She was so startled that she even forgot they were late to class -- something very hard for her to do since she made it a habit to always be punctual, as much as possible. After a moment of hesitation, Juliette took his hand and got to her feet, only to pick up her books and help Owen grab his as well. "Thanks," she said with a small nod, mainly to be polite. She was still a little taken aback by the whole ordeal, but the sound of a door slamming in the distance brought her back to reality, reminding her that they had a class to be in. "We're late," is all she said as she gestured down the hallway. After that, she sped up again, eager not to be any later to History than necessary.

The moment she walked in, their professor, Mr. Hudson, turned away from what he was writing on the blackboard to look at the two students that entered his class fifteen minutes late. Fortunately, he was one of the more liberal teachers. "Nice of you to join us," he said with a smile, making a few of the other students snicker. Juliette wanted nothing more than to shrink into her backpack and not be seen but she remained where she stood, clutching her books so tight her nails might have just dug into them -- had they not already been bitten to stubs, that is.

"We were just discussing your first assignment for the year," he explained, leaning against the table and looking at the two of them. "It's going to be in pairs and since it's going to take up almost half of your semester, it's also twenty percent of your whole grade."

Juliette hated working in pairs. She either got someone who never showed up or someone who just made fun of her all the time. Either way, she ended up doing all the work and her partner got equal credit. It was most annoying.

"Everybody's already paired up so I guess you two will be our last team of two," he nodded to the rest of the class. "Go on, take your seats. I'm about to discuss the details of the assignment."

Juliette could have buried her head into her powder blue sweater. But instead, she silently walked over to the desk closest to the window and farthest to the back since it was the only one of two desks available, and the most secluded. Not only did she bump into her former friend but now she had to work on an assignment with him. How the hell was that going to turn out? They both had changed so much from what they used to be. What if he was just like the rest of the popular guys and would make fun of her any chance he got? Juliette tried to avoid meeting his gaze and sank back in her chair as Mr. Hudson began to announce what exactly their task was.

Mr. Hudson had to be joking. There was no way on Earth that Owen would be working with Juliette Highmore for almost a whole year on a school assignment. The simple idea of it was ridiculous and nightmarish. She was serious about her grades, and though he hated to admit it, she was incredibly smarter than him. She had always been smarter than him, and Owen knew that, he had never minded it. The only thing about it that he did mind was that she was a bit of a know-it-all and sometimes without realizing it made him feel like a complete idiot. Therefore to be stuck with this girl who most likely didn't want to be paired with him either both shocked and annoyed him.

"Oh come on, Mr Hudson," he whined before the teacher could go into detail. On many occasions he was able to charm his teachers into getting closer to what he wanted. Sometimes, it was a fruitless endeavor. "I know we're a little late, but I already have someone who would like to pair with me." Owen tried offering their history and homeroom teacher a sweet smile.

"That person is ...." As Owen dragged out his words, he glanced around the room, searching for someone who knew. Someone who wouldn't mind pairing up with him. Sadly, Josh was not within his homeroom and a lot of the other guys on his team weren't either. Briefly, his eyes met with Naomi but she only glared at him as if to say "don't even think about it". "Obviously not here."

The class snickered once again. Owen was used to being the source of laughter in any class. When he received a look from their teacher he stalked over to his seat next to Juliette and sighed deeply as dropped his books onto his desk.

This was going to be one long semester.

"Go easy on me, won't you." Owen whispered over to the blonde girl with a half smile. It had been ages since he talked to her and honestly he had no idea on where she stood with him.

juliette highmoore

Juliette glanced over at Owen briefly when he spoke to her and she wanted to say something. Part of her wanted to say that, no, she would not go easy on him, because he needed to contribute to this project as much as she would since it was twenty percent of their grade. Another part had resigned herself to the fact that he would probably be busy with hockey practise and girls and she would have to just do it all on her own regardless of what she said.

Then another part, a very small, almost tiny part of her, wanted to try and make a joke to lighten the mood -- very unlike Juliette, considering all the torture she's been through in high school at the expense of popular guys, much like Owen, but considering he was her childhood friend, those instincts never really went away.

Before she could decide which part to listen to though, their teacher began to speak again, announcing the assignment. "Alright, so now that we have you all in teams," he said, clasping his hands together and leaning against the desk. "Look to the board for step one of your assignment. I've written down your teams and a famous war beside it. What you need to do, is come up with a creative way to represent it."

Juliette's eyes scanned the board for her and Owen's name. Her eyes skimmed across several wars. War of the Roman Republic, the Toledo war. When she finally landed on her name, she slowly read aloud what she saw. "The Trojan War."

Hushed murmurs filled the class as people already began to discuss what route to take. Juliette was stumped. How could they creatively execute a war and it's details, if not in a report or a formal presentation?

"You'll be getting a lot of points based on creativity so make sure to think of something outside the box," Mr. Hudson spoke louder, to try and silence the room. "It can be anything. You can compose a song. Maybe even portray it as a children's story. Whatever you want as long as the facts are right."

Mr. Hudson spoke a bit longer, outlining criteria they had to keep in mind and answering a few questions from other students till eventually the class came to an end with the sound of the bell. Juliette gathered her things and mentally debated over what to do. In a split second decision -- that was more impulse than anything -- Juliette turned to Owen before he could leave class. "We should probably figure out what we're going to do," she said, clutching her books to her chest and avoiding making eye contact. "And maybe we could go to the library and do a bit more research, if you have a free period?" She was in full academic mode -- as always. She only cared about getting this done with, and getting it done with in the way that landed her the best marks. She already knew all there was to know about the Trojan War, but she wasn't exactly skilled when it came creative stuff. Aside from knowledge, cars and playing the piano, there wasn't much that Juliette was good at.

Trojan War. Owen heard Juliette's voice before he found their assignment on the board. He figured now would not be a good time to mention he dozed off a lot during history class last year. In just a few seconds, Owen concluded that Juliette Highmoore would go from feeling neutral to him to hating him. That was how much confidence that Owen was felt about this homework and being paired with her. And usually Owen was always confident even if he had no idea on Earth what he was doing. And he had no idea what he was doing, because all he knew about the Trojan war was that a horse was involved and he was certain that Juliette wouldn't want to hear that from him.

Truth be told, he wouldn't blame her for thinking of him as an idiot if she did.

However, Owen paid close attention to everything that transpired throughout class, including what Mr Hudson said. He would read up on the Trojan War later, since it was their subject they'd obviously go over it together. And listening to what their teacher had to say was the least that Owen could do for Juliette. He could be a total ass sometimes, but he never tried to be. Dragging down another person just because he was lazy wasn't who he was either. He'd try. If it was his own individual work, than he wouldn't give two shits what type of grade he'd be given.

When class ended, Owen was caught up talking to a few others he was familiar with. Apparently, he wasn't the only one excited for the new school year. They had a lot to say and unfortunately, Owen was mostly on the hearing end of the conversation. A majority of these people happened to be girls. News that Naomi had dumped him traveled fast and while some people saw it as him being a pathetic fool, others saw it as an opening. The former was closer to the truth.

Owen's brown eyes caught his ex leaving the room and he made a move to follow her but was halted by Juliette's voice. He looked at her and blinked once before speaking, "uh what?" Owen smiled sheepishly as he tried to recall exactly what she had said. No, he hadn't exactly been listening. But he did hear something about free period and the library. It had only been a few minutes since the class had ended and she was already on top of getting to work.

"Oh. Yeah. I have a free period." He smiled more confidently, turning in his seat to face her. Crossing his arms over his chest, he subtly took Juliette's appearance in. "I have to say, I am excited about our library date. Should I quickly put something nice on or do we not have time?"

juliette highmoore

It hadn't occurred to Juliette that Owen had been in the middle of doing something -- or was about to rather, so when he turned to her, she just waited expectantly for an answer. When she got one, she nodded, almost holding back a sigh of relief. Good. That meant they could get a head start because she was sure the rest of the people in class would most likely wait till they had two weeks or so left to cram as much work as they could and come out with a half decent assignment. But Juliette couldn't settle for a low score, or even an average one, and since to her, every partner she had couldn't keep up, it meant starting as soon as possible to get a majority of the hard stuff done and over with.

She was about to suggest they head there now, when he spoke again after confirming his free period. His words caused her to tilt her head to the side a bit in confusion. Was he trying to trick her or something? Or mock her? Juliette couldn't tell, because there was no way he was actually flirting with her. Not when she just saw him bombarded by girls as soon as the class ended. Juliette was not in tune with gossip yet somehow she seemed to know that Owen had once been dating Naomi, but now the relationship was dissolved. For whatever reason.

While Owen's comment left her a little visibly flustered, Juliette was adamant to not give in. These two hadn't spoken to each other in years. It would take a while to slip back to the way things were. She was just convincing herself of that though, since she found that already she was beginning to slip back into the old days.

"Don't be too excited," she told him, deciding to play along a bit. Admittedly, with him, her level of snark was highly reduced, as compared with a bunch of other people that tried to tease her, or worse. Since she couldn't gauge Owen's intentions, this was the only way to deal with it. He was probably just being funny but social cues were hard for someone with asperger's syndrome to pick up on. "Because contrary to your previous request, I won't be going easy on you." Giving him a seemingly innocent smile, she turned and headed to the door, making her way to the library. "Come on, we've got to at least decide our mode of presentation before this hour is up," she called out before she disappeared after turning right, down the hallway.

The moment Owen fell into step with her, she continued to speak, knowing they wouldn't get to do much talking in the library except for hushed whispers whenever they could avoid being seen by the librarian. "Do you have any ideas on what we could do for a creative presentation?" she asked him curiously. That seemed like something more up his alley since he always had something witty to say. A trait she secretly admired, ever since they were younger, since she could sometimes match it with her own, provided she actually was able to differentiate between humour and things he said in the literal sense -- to her, most things were in the literal sense. It could be either annoying, or foolishly adorable.

His little smile grew slightly at Juliette's witty remark. He had almost been certain she'd give him a serious and drab response. Or a condescending one. The one she gave him however, was a lot better than what he had been expecting. It put him more at ease and made him a lot less awkward. Perhaps, working with her wouldn't be as bad as he first perceived it to be. That was until she said she wasn't going easy on him, his smile faltered some and little nervous chuckle escaped his mouth. He wondered how much longer she'd play along with him until he got her frustrated.

Nonetheless, Owen grabbed his old backpack off the back of his chair and followed Juliette out the door. They had work to do and since he was with her, he'd doubt he'd find the space in time to doze off to sleep while working on anything academic related. If they did not work on it now, he hadn't the slightest clue of when they would. After all, he had Hockey practice after school hours, Josh would probably want to hang out a little before he went to work and then go home to make sure his brother ate. If thing went smoothly, he wouldn't have to worry about his father for a few days as the man hadn't come home yet.

"Hmm ..." Owen hummed, pondering over Juliette's inquiry. He was almost completely certain that every idea that their teacher had used as an example someone else had already taken. And there was no way in hell Owen would be able to sit down long enough to give a little story yet alone write one. He would fail them instantly. The boy could hardly stay still for long, he was always all over the place. It was because of his ADHD, but not many people knew that. Most thought of him as simply energetic.

With a sigh Owen looked away and watched a group of drama kids talking about plays and whatnot and he joked. "We could put on a play, dear Helen." Was Helen the name of the queen of Sparta or whatever? It started off as a joke, but when he truly thought about it. "Oh my god, let's do a play."

Juliette froze in her tracks when she heard Owen's suggestion on how best to creatively display their assigned war. A play was not a bad idea at all. In fact, it went along perfectly with the war they were given, considering theatre was a huge thing back then, and they would have the chance to make their own spin on it. But she could tell that while Owen had initially meant it jokingly, the thought became more serious in his eyes and that, quite frankly, scared her.

On the bright side, at least he used the right name when calling her Helen. That made her feel somewhat relieved, but only for seconds, till she realised once again that he suggested they actually do a play.

"A-a play?" she echoed, looking at him with a somewhat nervous expression and then looking away, once again, avoiding eye contact. "You mean, like, dressing up, reciting lines... in front of the whole class?" She supposed Owen had no problem with this at all since everyone in their class knew him and liked him. But the same could not be said for Juliette and she hated having that kind of attention on her. The kind where she could be made fun of at a mere moment's notice.

"I'm not a good actor," she told him, beginning to walk again, but slower this time since the library was nearby and they still hadn't confirmed a way to present their topic. While Juliette would normally do anything to ace a class, she just wasn't sure she'd be able to pull this off. What if she was a terrible actor? People would tease her and make fun of her more than they already did. Of course, she couldn't actually tell Owen this, so she was probably just seemingly stubborn in his eyes.

"Maybe there's something else we could do," she offered, now lowering her voice as she entered the library with him. Juliette led her partner straight to the last few shelves where a bunch of history books were and she scanned the titles for something on the Trojan War. She found one on the top shelf and got on her toes to try and bring it down. "Maybe we could... i don't know, write... a poem, or something," she suggested further, stretching her hand up high as much as she could. That idea sucked and she knew it and she was also quite confident that Owen would argue with her on it. She just didn't want to make an even bigger fool of herself by acting.

"We can write a poem." Owen stood behind her and plucked the book she had been reaching for from the shelf. "And we can also receive a failing grade too. They're a package deal." He grabbed onto her shoulder softly and turned her around before handing her the book. He was frowning, but barely. He had come up with an idea, one that wasn't half bad, and she was ready to toss it aside. Perhaps it wasn't the absolute best idea on how to represent the war, but it was one that could work well for them if they arranged it well. Not to mention, it could be fun.

Owen narrowed his eyes, looking into Juliette's blue orbs temporarily before breaking away and taking a step back. "Any other books we need?" He asked with a hushed whisper, looking up and reading the titles of the stacked books on the shelf. Though he didn't intently listened on history class, he found world history a hundred times more interesting than American history. Roman and Greek history was among the most interesting, he noted. Owen scanned the shelf, shoving his hands into his pockets and sighed.

"It could be really fun." The brunette assured Juliette, trying his best to persuade her. Still, using fun as an advantage may not work on her. So, he tried to switch it up, looking at the advantages it would give them with Mr Hudson. If anything was going to change her mind, it would be the grade they'd receive and not they enjoyment they would get out of it. "We'd get points for originality and Mr Hudson could see how hard we actually worked on it." Owen attempted to win her over with a sweet smile.

"And ..." He leaned against the back shelf. "I seriously doubt he'll care about our acting skills. I'll teach you to act." Owen Grayson acted everyday to the point sometimes he himself forgot he was acting. Or in other words, lying.

Juliette allowed herself to be turned around, only so she could grab the book that he had helped take down from a higher shelf for her. She opened the book and flipped through the contents while listening to him, but still would not look to him because that would result in actually admitting what her real problem was with doing a play. It really was a good idea, and Mr. Hudson would definitely give them points on creativity for it, but if Juliette admitted that, there was no getting away from it.

She turned away from him, shutting the book, and then scanned the shelf once more. "Those two," she pointed to a higher shelf on the right, where two titles stood out related to the war. She got closer so she could show him which ones exactly in case he was confused. "And we're not doing an assignment for fun," she added, not realising that she wasn't whispering.

"Keep it down, you two,"
the librarian called from the front, able to see them if she craned her neck to the side. Juliette turned to her with an apologetic smile, but it faded the moment she looked back at Owen again.

He talked a good game, that was for sure. And he knew too that Mr. Hudson would like the idea of the play. Which meant it would be harder to convince him out of the idea he had. Juliette bit down on her lower lip as he continued to explain more reasons why they should stick with the play. It reached a point where Juliette couldn't really hide what she actually thought was going to happen.

"Look," she began, doing her best to keep her voice low. "You may not know this, but if I go up there and act, even give an Ascar worthy performance, it is not going to stop people from that class from laughing at me or making fun of me. You... You're liked. By everyone, okay? You won't go through that, and you'd suit the role of the handsome Paris perfectly, but me? As Helen of Troy? The dame that was the reason for the whole war? If me acting isn't bad enough, trying to represent one of the most beautiful people in history sure is. You don't have to go through that, but I do."

She had gone non stop without a breath, because she had gotten a bit riled up, and toward the end, she had gotten loud again, prompting the librarian to end her rant with a loud shhhhh.

Damn librarians.

Owen rubbed the back of his neck thoughtfully as he thought about her little rant. There was no denying that she would most definitely be made fun of. Juliette Highmoore was the nerd who seemed to only care about her studies. Which was why Owen was a little surprised by her rant. "I didn't think you cared. You seem so ... above it all." A lot of the times, he and his friends assumed her to be a bit stuckup with a one track mind. And she could also be a little rude in her speaking when it came to others that meant no harm towards her. It was almost like she had a problem in which she had no control over.

Owen sighed softly and reached over to grab the other two books she had pointed out. He thought to hand her these books too until he realized how heavy they were. Owen could be a bit off a goofball but he wasn't an ass, he was a gentleman. Or as close as he could get to one considering his manners half of the time. So, he held the other books in his arms and stared back at Juliet. Or to be more precise, down at Juliette. She was a lot shorter than him.

"Look, just ... don't listen to them. Who gives a damn what they think." Obviously, the class did, but Owen sure as hell didn't. At least he didn't care too much. For as long as he could remember he had been laughed at too much before he was laughed with. He made sure to keep his voice low so they wouldn't get kicked out of the library for being too loud a third time. "I think you'd make a great Helena. In fact, you're totally better than Helena. For starters, you're alive and she's dead and you're really cute. If you weren't sucked into your studies all day and bit friendlier people would be falling all over for you."

The blonde had to admit that she was a little taken aback by Owen's words. Of course, she didn't believe a word of them -- she doubted people would be all over her. That was something she had never experienced, and something she would never experience. She didn't even bother dreaming of it because she didn't want to get her hopes up. But still, hearing all of that come from Owen was surprising. And he called her cute. That definitely stuck out in he rmind more than anything else.

Juliette was momentarily dazed, but quickly snapped out of it, glancing around once again to make sure they weren't in the eyes of the librarian, who had already given them two warnings. "I usually never care what they think," she told him, clutching the book she held to her chest tightly. "But I'm not dumb. It's one thing to be ignorant -- it's a whole other thing to practically beg them to tease me more by going up there and making a fool of myself."

Juliette's stance on the whole thing was a little more liberal than it had been a few minutes ago, however. What Owen said definitely sparked something in her, making her want to forget about the teasing if it meant getting a killer grade -- one she needed if she wanted a scholarship. But then she was reminded of the reality of it all. After their assignment, they'd go their different ways. It was nice to have Owen on board now, but after that?

"People may love it when we do it, and we'll get a great grade but... after it's all over, you go back to being a hockey player with girls fawning over you and I'll be me. Just more prone to teasing. You just have to understand that we're from two different worlds, Owen." she shrugged and turned around, intending to go to a different aisle for one more book -- on the dramatic arts. "You have a good idea. I just.. I don't know." Yet, she was willing to read up a bit on it to get a better idea. This was something she had never done before.

Owen pinched his lips together as he followed after Juliette, clutching the books in his hands close. In all honesty, Owen wished he could say that he did not understand, but he did. As surprising as it may have been to Juliette he tiptoed around a lot too in social interactions, just not in the same way as she did. He was less prone to getting teased about and they'd probably pick on her about it until the end of the semester or school year. Though, that was only if the play left a lasting impression, which was exactly what they'd need for a passing grade.

"Just think about it, okay, don't rule it out." He breathed and ran his fingers through his hair. It was frustrating, but there was no way it would happen if she wasn't on board. After all, it was supposed to be a team assignment and there was no I in team. Owen was disappointed that his idea had been almost completely shot down. He wasn't certain he'd come up with anything better and he knew that Juliette would most likely come up with ideas that wouldn't agree with his nature.

He shuffled the books to one arm and stared back at her, offering the blonde a flimsy smile. "But if we do the play, whether it's really shitty or fantastic and they do tease you, just tell me, dear Helen. Your very own Paris will start a war to defend your honor." He winked, though, he meant it. If they did the play, he wouldn't stand for them to pick on her in his presence.

Juliette, for the life of her, couldn't begin to understand why he would even want to defend her against oncoming teasing and slurs. If anything, defending her might just get them to tease on him too -- though part of her doubted that. He had way too much pull in the school to warrant that kind of treatment from the other students in the school. No, he had no reason to want to stand up for her, yet here he was, actually offering to, and it definitely came as a surprise.

She looked at him, at his smile, listened to his words, his promise, and she was convinced. Somehow, she was convinced. Maybe it had to do with the fact that she could actually believe him when he said he would defend her honor, mainly due to having been friends in the past -- even if that was practically eons ago. But Juliette knew this would be good for their grade, and she had a partner that was actually pitching in more than she expected of them so why should she go and ruin that because she was scared of more bullying? She had handled it till now. She could handle it some more.

"Alright," she said with a small sigh before nodding. "Let's do the play," she said, managing a small smile as she looked up at him. "It's the best way to get a high grade and... if you teach me to act, then I'll be the Helen to your Paris," she nodded, before turning around so he wouldn't see her slightly flustered expression. She went straight to the aisle for the dramatic arts, figuring they could pick up a thing or two on old classical greek theatre so they could put their own authentic spin on things.

"Really?" Owen's brown eyes lit up the moment Juliette agreed to do the play. Was she serious, did she truly mean that? The look of defeat on her face spoke volumes. That and the fact that she went on to speak after wards, confirming what he had heard the first time. Her response made a brilliant little grin spread across his face, slowly but surely. There was no hiding the joy he was feeling in that exact moment. "We're going to ace this assignment." He promised her before she turned her back to him, catching her slightly flustered expression.

His smile grew just a tad more and he tailed after Juliette, only one step behind her. Owen was certain they'd get a good mark on the assignment either way, but that was only if Juliette did the majority of the work. And he wasn't so bad as to dump all of the work onto her. But he was excited about the concept they'd be using. Naturally, it would take a lot of work on both their ends, but they had plenty of time to get the work done.

"We'll have to set a time after school to practice together." Owen softly said, glancing at the perfectly lined books on the shelves. It wasn't often that he found himself in the library. They boy wasn't much of a reader, he had ADHD and a mild case of dyslexia. Of course, he never told that to anyone. He'd rather have them believe he simply did not pay attention in class rather than he had a problem.

"I have hockey practice and work ..." He hummed and pursed his lips. His schedule was a busy one and he had no idea how crammed Juliette's may be. Owen did know that she worked in her father's garage so it would be difficult finding a time that aligned. And he seriously doubted she'd like to practice at school where everyone could see them and potential still their idea ... oh and laugh at them.

"Are you free on the weekends?"

juliette highmoore

Juliette smiled a little, hearing Owen say they were going to ace the assignment. But of course, this little smile was kept to herself as she was turned away from him. She continued onward till she found a shelf full of the kind of books she was looking for and began to scan the titles. When it came to deciding when they could set aside time to work on their assignment, Juliette began to think.

"Yeah, I've got work after school as well," she nodded in agreement, which meant working after class hours would be hard unless they wanted to work late in the night. That option wasn't too ideal for either of them on school nights. She was more or less free on weekends though, so when he posed the idea, she turned back to him. "Weekends are all open," she nodded once again, to confirm his question. "I would have thought you might be busy then though?" He of course, had friends to spend the weekend with. Juliette didn't.

"We also need to figure out where we can work," she added, turning back to the shelf and picking out a book on traditional Greek theatre. "Will your place be free?" She didn't want to inconvenience him by making him come to her place. It wasn't that she minded or anything, but she didn't know how her father would take it. There had been a time when her dad loved Owen, considering he had been one of her closest friends as a kid, but after they went their own ways in middle school, her father always had this assumption that he was among those poplar kids that picked on her, so he no longer held Owen in very high regard.

And working in the school was definitely out of the question. She already had to present to a class, she'd rather not have anyone else see. Which meant there weren't many places they could go. Except for one. Though that was more of Juliette's private spot. Where she went to be even away from her father. Where she could escape the cruelties of school and the real world. She didn't know if she wanted to open that up yet, to work on an assignment.
