He sits on the bank, watching her, before turning around and starting back to the cave again, head and tail hung low, Tears starting to develop, or the nearest reptillian counterpart. Inside, He is heartbroken, thinking he scared away the first person he got to know recently. once he gets back, he too switches to a human form, curling up, the only real feature that stays the same is his eyes, but, if they aren't fully open, no one would be able to tell the difference.
